“Hey babe, I’m really sorry,” Nat sat down beside you on the couch, looking at you with a sad smile.
You furrowed your brows, trying to process her words. What did she have to be sorry for?
“Um, why?”
“Because of you-know-who,” she subtly nodded her head towards Bucky chatting with Sam in the kitchen. He was laughing at something Sam had said, and despite the fact that he was wearing a hoodie, the hickeys on his neck were still visible. She knew you couldn’t miss those prominent love bites.
Nat was well aware of the giant crush you had on the dark-haired supersoldier, and she also thought that those feelings were requited. Bucky had seemed entirely enamored by you ever since you joined the team. She couldn’t believe he would do that, especially because everyone including him knew how you felt. You must have felt terrible about the whole situation.
“Oh,” biting your lip, you willed yourself not to react. Nat could read you like a book and you didn’t want her to know about the sordid details of this chapter. Not yet at least. “He’s a grown up, and he can do whatever he wants,” you stood up in haste, giving her a nod before walking back to your room.
She missed the wink Bucky shot you, and the way you smiled at the ground as you left.
Bucky assured you that the marks would heal fast, giving you free rein to do whatever you wanted to him. Unfortunately, it wasn’t fast enough.
“What the hell?” Nat muttered under her breath. She figured his actions must have hurt you so much that you couldn’t even properly react to it. Deciding to confront the man himself, she stormed into the kitchen, pulling out a chair and sitting next to Sam.
She glared at Bucky as he finished up his story, catching the eyes of both men. Sam exchanged a look with Bucky, neither having any idea why she was staring like that.
Bucky grinned at Nat cautiously, “What’s up?”
“She was literally in the room, and you couldn’t think to maybe pull your hood on, or wear a scarf?”
“Nat,” he tried to think of an explanation, but the truth wasn’t his to tell. You asked him not to. “It’s no big deal,” he lied.
His time with you was everything, and he couldn’t fight the flashback his brain had of you in his lap the night before sucking and biting his neck as you rode him. If only Nat could see the state of your chest and the marks that you had thanks to him, she’d know there were no hurt feelings.
Sam watched on, trying to keep his face neutral because he already knew about the two of you. He’d seen Bucky slip out of your room a few mornings ago, however he respected your privacy and kept your secret. Although, he had no problem teasing Bucky about it when you weren’t around.
“Live your life, but you could be more respectful of her feelings,” she said before standing up and leaving.
Bucky pursed his lips as he looked at Sam.
“Should’ve covered it up, man,” Sam smirked.
Nodding his head, “Yeah, for her sake.”
“What are you guys waiting for?”
He shrugged his shoulders, “I’m letting her set the pace, it’s up to her.”
┈┈┈┈┈・・
“Fuck, Bucky,” you cried out as his powerful hips snapped into you at a relentless pace. The sheer look of pleasure and determination on his face made you shudder as you watched him take you apart. Your legs wrapped around his waist, an impulse for more; to be closer, to be consumed.
Metal fingers began to circle your clit, making your body contract beneath him.
“Oh baby,” you whimpered. He fucked you like a god, a self-assured divine being.
Bucky smirked, “Do you like that?” His fingers continued their sweet torture as he took what he needed. With each fierce thrust he brought you closer, to your end, to his soul.
Unable to speak, you watched your perfect man lose himself inside of you.
It hit like lightning striking your body, electrifying every nerve with blissful euphoria. You threw your head back as you heard your pulse ring in your ears, wet walls squeezing tight around his cock.
Unable to think, simply feeling the sensory overload.
He groaned out your name as his hips stuttered erratically. Pushing impossibly deeper, he came hard. Shuddering his release, pumping himself empty inside his favorite place.
Collapsing on top of you, he kissed you softly before turning you on your side as he stayed nestled inside of you.
Dark blue eyes connected with yours, his thumb dusting over your bottom lip.
Tangling your hands into his hair, you pulled him closer, pressing your lips to his. Tongue sliding between his parted lips, chest pressed against his, close.
This was where you were supposed to be.
Bucky pulled back and playfully started peppering your face with kisses. Down your jawline, all over your cheeks, on your nose, and you couldn’t stop yourself from giggling.
“Bucky!” you tried to grab his face. But he wouldn’t relent, gripping the back of your neck, kissing you until you were squealing in laughter.
He loved that sound, he adored seeing you so happy. How Nat could ever think that he’d go for any other girl was not something he could comprehend. Bucky only had eyes for you.
“Doll,” he kissed your lips before letting you catch your breath. He couldn’t wait any longer, he had to know. “What are we doing?”
“What do you mean?” you whispered.
“Why are we hiding this?”
You sighed. “Because I want this to be our thing for a while longer, we’re having fun aren’t we?” you grinned, not understanding his concern.
“Of course we are, but… this is more than just fun for me,” his eyes searched yours.
Oh this sweet, soft man.
“Then we’ll tell the team, we can tell anyone you want.”
“Really?” he beamed.
“Yes, really. It’s more for me too, I don’t want you to think for a moment that it isn’t. I didn’t want anyone casting doubts on us – but I’m sure about you, so it’s okay.”
“Thank you, I can only take so much mad-dogging from Nat,” he breathed a sigh of relief. Although, his true solace came from the knowledge that the feeling in his heart was reciprocated – he was damn well certain about you too.
“Right, because that’s your thing, isn’t it tough guy?” you teased. His penchant for staring often intimidated others, but you knew the kind-hearted man under the hard exterior.
Bucky narrowed his eyes, rolling you on top of him in one swift movement. His hardened length still inside of you told you that the time for talking had ended. Your hands fell onto his strong, broad chest as you held yourself up, ready to take him for a ride.
His fiery gaze landed on your breasts, the heat from his stare capable of scorching the earth. He ran his warm fingers over the fading marks he’d left from the night before, admiring them.
Desire flooded your body and when your eyes locked, an idea came to your mind. “Why don’t you bite my neck?” you raised an eyebrow.
He sat up, the offer one he wasn’t willing to pass. Bucky trailed his lips along your jaw, nibbling his way down until he whispered, “Only if you promise to bite me back,” he licked up your neck.
With a racing heart, you circled your hips before grinding down on him. “Deal.”
There was no point in concealing this connection that meant so much to the both of you. And as his teeth bit down on your skin, a rush of arousal ran through you. The sting of his possession, the way he felt so deep inside you; this was it.
The two of you would likely tell your friends the following day about your relationship – or they could just take a look at the matching marks on your necks that let them know exactly who you belonged to.

Riding Bucky
Woke up to the new photos and all I have are thots about beefy Bucky 🫠
18+ below! Minors DNI!
Bucky Barnes x female reader
Imagine riding Bucky's dick and feeling his chest hair 🫠
Imagine him being tied to the bed just for fun without any domination. It was actually his idea to do this, to be tied up and to see how much you want to take control
You both are already naked and there he is in all his glory, gorgeous and with that amazing chest hair that drives you insane
You are wet from just looking at him and when you sink down on him, the sounds coming out of you are unreal. You feel him, vein by vein and inch by inch. He feels so damn good.
You start slow, your hands on his chest, you touch his hair, feel him in you, with you.
As you start riding him, there is a sinister smile on his face. You both know he wants to hold you, take control but you both want to see how well you want to be in control this time. See how long it lasts until he snaps.
As you ride him, you get louder, more electric. You feel your orgasm building. Normally you love being edged but this time, you want to come again and again. You want to be ruined and ruin him.
When you come, you cry out loud, creaming his cock and nibbling on his neck, feeling his scent and him.
You both never felt so good before.
And afterwards? He DOES snap, ties you up this time and makes sure you come for him again and again.

My work is not to be reproduced, translated, or copied ANYWHERE that is not my account. If I find it, I’m coming for you. Plagiarism will not be taken lightly.
Summary | Bucky Barnes. The Red Henley. Sinful thoughts. That is all.
Relationship | roommate!Bucky x woc!reader (there’s something…so decadent about roommates au)
Warnings | NSFW 18+ MINORS DNI, daddy kink, dom/sub relationship, breaking established relationship boundaries, mutual pining, language, breeding kink, lowkey pregnancy kink, overstimulation, nicknames, oral sex (fem receiving) sadomasochism, heavy flirting, aftercare
Words | idk yet, we’ll get back to that
Notes | let’s ignore the fact that this has been in my drafts for like 6 weeks…along with other things that will be coming soon 👀. I’ll probably edit this again, so if you see any changes from the first time, just know. Nothing major tho.
You weren’t exactly un-used to Bucky leaving for extended periods of time. Sam, Steve, and he were very busy guys, you know saving the world and everything. You had no idea what this trip was about, all you knew was that it was urgent enough for Bucky to leave mid-meal. And he never stops eating for anyone.
You have to admit, much to your dismay, that the apartment was considerably lonely without him. As much as he annoyed you everyday with his loud chewing, obnoxious laugh, and so much more, you kind of missed him. Some time earlier in the day you passed by his room and just stood there. No reason in particular, you just wanted to take a look. The man was a neat freak, everything having its own place and every surface spotless. You guessed it was the military man in him.
~~~
You didn’t hear him come in, too caught up in your own world to notice the loud slam of the door and the dropping of bags. But he noticed you. Standing in the kitchen with your back turned, swaying your hips with no abandon. It’s not like you knew there were eyes on you, and that somehow made it better. Although majority of your body was obstructed by the marble-top island, Bucky recognized that red Henley anywhere. His red Henley.
“Fuck”, he whispered under his breath. The jeans he wore began to grow tighter by the second and his hands began to feel quite shaky. The two of you were friends. This was wrong. So wrong.
You turned around to get something from the fridge, squealing in surprise from the large figure at your door.
“Jesus fucking Christ Buck! Are you trying to kill me?” He smiled awkwardly, running a hand through his shoulder length hair. You loved his hair like that, it suited him perfectly. You wish that he’d never dream of cutting it.
“Sorry dollface. My bad.” It suddenly occurred to you what day it was.
“What are you doing here? You’re not supposed to be back for 3 more days.”
“Well plans change. We figured it out quicker than we thought.”
“Oh, ok. Good to know.” Bucky looked at you in a way that made fear swirl in your abdomen, suddenly hyperaware of your existence. Is there something on my face? You look down at your body and everything clicked into place. Your face began to heat of like a furnace, your throat becoming drier by the second. Uh oh.
You avoided eye contact, trying to finish what you were doing in order to make a much needed escape.
“Nice shirt peach.”
“Oh this? Thanks.” You responded quickly, trying to act nonchalant. You grabbed your mug, attempting a quick escape for the door. You were too slow though. Bucky’s large figure blocked the exit, keeping you trapped. Your eyes made contact with the dog tags on his chest, focusing on the words to avoid making conversation. It was moments like this that you properly noticed how large your roommate was. You weren’t exactly small, but everyone looked tiny compared to his large bulky 6’4 stature.
“Bucky, can you move out the way please?,” you said to his chest. He chuckled. The idiot chuckled.
“My eyes are up here sweets.” He was taunting you, reveling in the way you shrunk under his gaze. Begrudgingly, you lifted your eyes to his crystal blues.
“Bucky.”
“Yes plum?”
“Can you move so I can pass please?”
His large body stepped a bit to the side, but not enough for your figure to pass without touching him. He was evil, but two can play at this forbidden game. You passed through the door a tad slower than normal, your ass pressing against his crotch as you made your way through. Then as though nothing happened, you walked nonchalantly towards your room.
**
About 2-3 hours had passed before you got the opportunity to leave your room. You spent the entire time listening to Bucky’s movements, waiting for the moment he retired for the night. You were tired to be honest, the warmth of the shower you just took lulling you to sleep. Just when you nearly dozed off, you noticed the sound of Bucky’s shower. Now was your time.
It wasn’t easy to keep track of Bucky’s movements. Although he wasn’t officially the Winter Soldier anymore, the training was still embedded deep into his veins. Listening for his footsteps had proved to be more difficult than actual rocket science.
As the night approached witching hours, you slipped past the threshold of your bedroom in search of something to curb your hunger(as well as something to distract you from inappropriate thoughts about your roommate).
Fucking your roommate is probably one of the worst idea one can have. It’s not that you didn’t find him attractive, quite the opposite actually. You’d be lying if you said the thought hadn’t crossed your mind. But you had something to prove. It felt like just yesterday when Steve introduced you to him, the quiet giant immediately catching your eye as you sauntered into the Avengers Compound. You also remember the look Natasha and Wanda gave you behind his back as your fingers grazed his in a handshake.
“If you don’t fuck him, I will,” Nat declared across the kitchen counter.
You scoffed in disbelief at your best friend’s words. Of course she would suggest that.
“I would too if I’m honest.”
“Wanda! You have a boyfriend!” Nat cackled as you yelled at Wanda, enjoying your discomfort.
“So? It’s not the most major obstacle…”
You stared at Wan as thought she was sporting seven heads.
“Alright, alright. It is an obstacle. But if it wasn’t…”.
“Oh come on! Babes you’re telling me you wouldn’t fuck a super soldier if given the chance?” Nat questioned.
“Nat, just tell Steve already so you can get the opportunity. We all know he’s starving for you.”
“Actually Wan, I can’t. A certain Carter woman has his attention.”
“The dead one or the blond one?”
“Honestly I’m inclined to say both.”
“So steal it back? Duh.”
“We’ll see. Anyways, back to you fucking the life out of Sergeant Barnes.”
“I’m will not!”
You honestly might.
The chance was low, but not zero. Light as a feather, you tip toed into the kitchen in search of something to eat. With a super soldier for a roommate, you had to make as little sound as humanly possible. The man heard everything and you hate it. You very slowly grabbed a bagel from the bag, turning around in search of the Nutella hidden in the cabinets.
“You know being quiet doesn’t stop me from hearing you.”
You yelled in surprise, dropping the knife and nearly cutting off your foot. You stomped, frustrated and shaking slightly.
“One of these days I’m gonna have an actual heart attack and it’s gonna be your fault when I croak.”
“Oh yeah?” he asked with a sly grin, inching closer. You ignored the butterflies in your stomach and the way your heart beat erratically in your chest.
“Yes.”
“Anything you’d like to do before your death? Or anyone?” Bucky’s breath danced on the top of your ear as he whispered the last part, sending a shiver up your spine.
He was close enough that you felt the heat radiate off his body. The cologne he wore engulfed your senses so all that you could smell was him. It was distracting.
“Peach?”. Bucky moved closer towards you, just a sliver of space between your bodies.
“Hm?”. You answered, but lacked any attention towards the topic at hand. His warm lips brushed against your ear and a moan nearly slipped before you came to your senses.
This is so inappropriate.
With a clear head, you escape Bucky’s arms and walk around the island to put some distance between you. You watch as his back muscles flex with each movement, your mouth watering. No, he’s your fucking roommate dumbass. We do not fuck our roommate!
“You know doll, it’s not nice to tease…” His crystal blue eyes taunt you, staring at your body with what could only be described as pure lust. It was agonizing.
“Oh yeah? Then what would you call that little stunt just now?” You lean over the table, your voice taking on a mocking tone towards the end.
“Testing the waters.” Bucky matches your position and you can’t help but notice something that makes your face warm. His hips are the exact same height as the countertop. Fuck me…
“Sweets, it’s not nice to stare.”
“I wasn’t.”
“Oh but you were.” Bucky slowly makes his way around the corner towards you, and you plan your escape. You run, only for him to grab your waist and pull you back into the kitchen.
“You know most people wouldn’t attempt a failed plan twice right?” You began to feel slightly suffocated by Bucky’s close proximity, intoxicated by his presence.
“Yeah, well I’m not most people Barnes.” Bucky smiled down at you trapped between his arms.
“No. No you are not.” It sounded like he was saying it more to himself than to you.
The two of you maintained eye contact, neither uttering a word. It’s like you were attempting to communicate entire essays about your feelings without actually saying a thing. You put your hand on the back of his neck, pulling him towards you and making the first move.
His lips were pillow soft, even better than you’d imagined. He took his time at first, not wanting to rush anything. But then it took a rapid turn. His gentleness became increasingly desperate as he nipped at your lips, soothing the burn with his tongue. You giggled, surprised by how needy the man could be. There was not a sliver of space between you, his erection pressed deeply against your stomach. Without warning, he stepped back, pausing the kiss.
“Be a good girl and bend over yeah?”
Bucky doesn’t give you much time to process, grabbing you by the neck and pushing your cheek against the cold marble counter. He pushes your hips up so that they’re taut against the table, your feet dangling a bit in the air.
“Peach you have no idea how long I’ve wanted to have you ass up and face down for me. You look so pretty like this.” His large hands palm your ass, not before smacking your cheeks and watching them jiggle.
You hear the jingling of his belt as he unbuckles it and the sounds of his jeans as they drop to the floor. You feel the length of him as he glided his tip between the wetness of your lips and you struggle to contain yourself.
“Don’t tease me Barnes. I need you.
He ignores your pleas, brushing two fingers against your sensitivity. He pops them in his mouth, making obscene sounds as he sucks off your taste.
“Fuck. Baby you taste so good.”
“Bucky.” You didn’t even care how pathetic you sounded right now.
“Yes princess?” His voice taunted you, pretending like he didn’t know what you were asking.
“You know what I want.”
“Actually…I don’t. Use your words baby, and don’t forget to say please.” He just barely pushed the tip in, stretching you out slightly but not enough to provide relief. It was as torturous for him as it was for you, but your roommate was unwilling to give up watching you beg.
“Fuck me. Please.” At your word, he sank balls deep into you, knocking the air from your lungs.
Without much thought, you reached a hand out to push his hips back.
“Am I too big princess?” You could hear the sickening smile on his face.
“Mhmm.”
“I think you can take it baby. You’re a big girl.”
Bucky pressed one hand on the back of your neck and the other on your hip, thrusting into you at a rough steady pace. He would enter slowly but fill you to the brim, each thrust making your hips hit the countertop a bit. Eventually the pain turned to pleasure and it was overwhelming. He was good at this, really good.
“You look so pretty baby. You liked being fucked like the slut you are in my Henley?”
You barely managed to respond with a yes, too distracted by the pleasure he was giving you.
“Yes what?”
“Fuck. Yes daddy.” The cold surface of the countertop was a good contrast to how the lust burned deep in your core, setting your body aflame.
“That’s right.”
He lifted his hand from your neck, setting it on the other side of your hips for leverage. Then, all mercy went out the window. It seemed that Sam’s joke was right. Bucky doesn’t make love, he fucks. He leaned over your body, whispering obscene things in your ear as he fucked you senseless. Every whimper, every moan that escaped his lips reverberated through your body. His wet fingers that rubbed circles into your clit had you seeing stars.
“Bucky I’m gonna—”. You choked on your words when he hit a particular spot.
“You’re gonna cum for me pretty girl? Cum all over your daddy’s cock, yeah?”
“Yes. Fuck yes,” you stuttered.
As if it were even possible, his thrusts got rougher and faster, encouraging you to reach your orgasm. Bucky knew he wasn’t going to last much longer with the way your cunt was gripping him mercilessly.
“God fuck, I wanna cum in you so bad. You’d like that plum? For daddy to come in your pretty pussy and make you a mommy?”
You could only conjure moans and nodding as a response. Your legs began to shake and your eyes rolled back as you reached your orgasm.
“So you are a dirty slut? Letting your roommate breed you like a whore? Fuck, you are so good to me.” His voice grew hoarse at the last few words, whimpering in pleasure.
Bucky’s nails dug into the flesh of your hips, creating crescent moons for you to see again tomorrow. His thrusts slowed as he spilled his seed, pumping thick ropes that painted your walls.
Your body lay limp on the counter, tired from being used as a cock sleeve. You felt warm kisses bring peppered up your back and across your shoulders. His lips kissed along your neck, stopping by your ear.
“Let’s go get you cleaned up plum. Think you can stand?”
You murmured a soft no and Bucky chuckled at your weak state. Slowly, he slipped out of you and you felt his cum begin to drip down your leg. A burning, albeit considerably gentle, tongue wiped across your swollen lips and you hissed. A curse fell from Bucky’s mouth, apologizing profusely.
“Sorry gorgeous. It’s just your pussy looks so pretty covered in my cum. Just needed a quick taste.” You throbbed at his obscenity and accidentally moaned.
“Did you—did you enjoy that peach? You naughty bitch.” His voiced teased you, shocked by your forwardness.
“Yes daddy.”
Bucky grabbed your torso, helping you sit up on the edge of the counter. You watched as he sank down to his knees, hands holding your legs open. Maintaining eye contact, his warm tongue licked a stripe up your entrance. God he was trying to kill you. He pulled your thighs, removing any and all space between his mouth and your cunt.
You don’t if the man was speaking in tongues or something, but you couldn’t have cared less. The way he sucked on your clit like a lollipop and licked had your legs seizing and lungs barely operating. You pulled hard at his strands, needing something to hold you steady.
It was apparent that Bucky liked the pain because he moaned on contact. The sounds he was making in enjoyment sent vibrations through your body and had you cumming instantaneously. Your legs were shaking, locked around his head as you moaning his name along with a string of curses. Still he didn’t let up, despite the way you cried about how sensitive you were. Not until he was satisfied and finally let go.
He smiled cheekily, ignoring your stern face.
“What? A starving man’s gotta eat.” You laughed at his stupidity, shaking your head.
“Now c’mon, I’ll run you a bath.”
He picked you up bridal style, carrying you towards the bathroom attached to your room. He talked you up a storm and you stayed silent, barely paying attention to his words. You just enjoyed the way his face lit up when he talked, no matter the content. The “don’t fuck your roommate” situation was shattered completely and you couldn’t give less of a fuck. Nat was right.
prompt: darkest desires/criminal with Bucky Barnes
You’d heard about the recent string of break ins that were sweeping the city. So far there’d been five in this month alone and it seemed that they got closer and closer to your side of town. You’d been so worried that your building would be next, but your neighbor had assured you that it was unlikely. You’d believed him, trusting Bucky probably a little more than you should have and letting the man soothe your worries with calming words.
If only that had been true.
You saw the flashing lights as you stepped off the bus, a line of cop cars in front of your building as cops tried to keep people from going inside that didn’t belong there. “I live here, please I-this is my building.” You insisted when one of the officers blocked your entry.
“What’s your name Miss?” One of them asked, and after you’d given it they said something into their walkies. A second later a staticky voice replied for them to let you up. You didn’t wait for the elevator, taking the stairs as fast you could until you were huffing and puffing when you reached your front door. Your stomach dropped, despair and defeat taking up residence in your mind when you saw the officers and detectives at your front door as others milled around inside surveying the damage and looking to collect evidence.
Your attempt to enter was barred, your home was an active crime scene, and you were being told that you'd need to find other arrangements for the night. You were seconds away from trying to push your way into your apartment when a strong arm pulled you back. The familiar scent of Bucky's soap mixed with notes of leather had some sort of calming effect on you, just enough that you didn't protest when he pulled you into his apartment and urged you to let the detectives do their job.
"You got anyone you can call? Family, friends, that little shit boyfriend of yours?" He didn't miss the way you tensed at the mention of your boyfriend. Bryce was the last person you wanted to call, even if he was the only one currently in town that could give you a place to stay for a night or two. You knew it’d come with a price, and it wasn’t one you wanted to pay at the moment just to have somewhere to lay your head. You could tell Bucky wanted to say something, the way his jaw set and the sound of the metal plates of his arm shifting a whirring as he clenched his prosthetic hand into a tight fist.
“My sister’s out of town, parents are on a cruise, and my best friend just had a kid so I really don’t want to bring my stress to her door step.” You hesitated, not able to look Bucky in the eyes as you trailed off for a moment. “Bryce...he doesn’t do favors, not even for his girlfriend.” You said the word as if it were a joke, lately you didn’t feel like you were anything but a challenge for Bryce to try and conquer. The signs had been there, but you’d been too caught up in having his attention to notice that he only really started paying attention to you when he’d found out that you were a virgin.
He thought it was a joke at first, how could you be well into your twenties and still a virgin? It was something that he wanted to change, and it had only taken him a month and a half to start applying the pressure on you. Of course Bucky knew, he knew so much more than you thought. Bucky knew everything. The day you’d met him he’d been intrigued, you had caught a glimpse of his vibranium arm and instead of recoiling in fear or disgust you made a joke about how black goes with everything. That had made him laugh, and he hadn’t missed the warm smile that his laughter had brought to your lips.
That one interaction had lit the flame, and no less than a week later he had pulled more than a few strings to clone your cell phone so he could monitor your conversations. That was how he found out that you were a virgin. It had been some conversation with your sister giving you a hard time about it only to tell you that she understood. You had trust issues, and you wanted to wait for someone that you knew you could trust before you took things that far. He thought it was sweet, and he wanted so badly to be that person for you so he started integrating himself into your life. Little things like coming over to fix things that the building super dragged his feet on repairing. Chasing off a few bad dates when they wouldn’t take a hint and leave on their own. He’d even been a shoulder to cry on for you when dates began cancelling on you one after the other. You didn’t know that Bucky had been permanently getting rid of any potential suitors to keep you single and available until he finally decided that you were in a vulnerable enough state to let him be the one for you.
What he hadn’t expected was for someone like Bryce Langley to come around, a rich little bastard like that would take more work to disappear, and in the meantime he’d managed to worm his way into your life. Bucky had one of the agents at SHIELD look into the bastard, and what they came back with only made him more determined to get the little weasel out of your life. It was easier said than done, you were smitten at first. So Bucky had to resort to breaking in one day while you were at work and placing surveillance cameras around your apartment. They were to keep you safe, that was what he had told himself, but your safety was the furthest thing from his mind when he watched you touch yourself on some nights. Those nights the only thoughts in Bucky’s mind were thoughts of what you’d sound like when it was him that was pulling those sounds from your sweet mouth. God he had such plans for you, and you’d be so good and perfect for him once he had you. Seeing your reluctance to call the one man who should have been able to take care of you at this moment made his work all the more easier.
He was suddenly so glad that he had pushed past his guilt of potentially traumatizing you by staging a break in of your apartment. He knew how afraid you’d been that someone could target your building next, and with his skills it had taken him little to no effort to sneak in silently while you were away. He trashed the place, taking a few items to make the home invasion seem as real as possible. Once he’d collected his hidden surveillance cameras he slipped out of the building making sure to avoid any cameras so he could say that he’d found your place vandalized, and have that corroborated when the cameras at the front of the building caught him walking back and entering the building seemingly for the first time since he’d left hours before.
Now there you were, vulnerable, needing someone, and feeling as if you had no one. Well you had him, and Bucky would make sure of it. “You could stay here.” He offered, already knowing you’d never go for that. You didn’t want to intrude, and foolishly you thought spending a night in Bucky’s apartment would be too much temptation.
Before you could even start with the many reasons why you couldn’t intrude on Bucky’s space like that he held his hands up in surrender. “Okay fine, if you won’t stay here then I’ll get you a hotel room.” That hardly seemed better in your opinion, and you didn’t want him spending money on you when he had no obligations to.
“Bucky seriously it’s fine I’ll figure somethin—”
“That’s enough of that, bunny.” He cut you off, breaking out his favorite little nickname for you despite his voice sounding firmer than you ever remembered hearing. It made your stomach flip with nerves as you squirmed under the intense blue of his gaze like a child caught misbehaving. He liked that, liked how obedient you could be but before the thought could morph into something more lewd he pushed it away. “You’ve been through a lot tonight, so I’m going to take you to a hotel you’re going to stay there for a weekend, and I’ll take care of your place so when you get back it’s not a mess.” You wanted to protest, to say that was too much but he gave you a look that struck you silent. “Trust me, bunny. Let me take care of you.” The sincerity in his tone made a lump form in your throat and you just nodded, not trusting your voice.
Bucky said nothing else, nodding once before disappearing into his bedroom and after a few agonizing moments of leaving you sitting there on his sofa to think about why you’d let him talk you into this so easily he returned. “What’s that?” You questioned, eyeing the small duffel bag he carried with him as he approached.
“Spare toothbrush, unused don’t worry. A couple of my shirts so you can have something to sleep in. Just the basics I promise. Now let’s go get you settled so you can relax.” You still wanted to protest but you were too tired, emotionally exhausted and it took everything in your power not to say say anything to the officers still searching around your apartment when you let Bucky lead you out of the building.
The hotel he brought you to was a modest looking one, Hotel Indigo, a place with fair rates and up to date décor and furnishings. It took Bucky all of ten minutes to get you a room and leading you to it he let you look around as he hung back by the door. “How about you shower, try to relax, and I’ll go get you something to eat?” You just nodded at the suggestion, feeling too overwhelmed to make any real decision for yourself at the moment. Bucky left then, giving you some time alone to grab one of the shirts he’d packed for you before you disappeared inside the bathroom. It wasn’t until you were in the shower that you finally let yourself cry. Why you? Why did you have to be the target of such careless vandalism? You’d never had the best of luck, but you never thought it was so bad that you would ever find yourself in this situation. You huffed out a frustrated sigh, forcing yourself to stop crying and pull yourself together before you finally exited the shower and dried yourself off. Grabbing the shirt you slipped it on, the smell of Bucky all over it as the fabric enveloped you and concealed the curves of your body under the large shirt. Something about it made your stomach flip, the physical proof of just how much bigger than you Bucky was making your thoughts stray for a moment.
Stop it. You have a boyfriend. A boyfriend that only wants you because you’re a conquest. Stop it.
The temporary war in your mind was silenced the second you stepped out of the hotel bathroom and caught sight of Bucky reentering the room with a large box of pizza and a couple of sodas. You smiled, despite the stress you were under and climbed into the bed, missing the way Bucky’s gaze hungrily swept over you as the scent of you mixed with his own wafted towards him. He swallowed thickly, watching the expanse of your thigh come into view when you reached for the remote so that you could put on one of the movie channels and let it play in the background. Fuck. He was trying to pace himself, not wanting to push for too much too fast, but you were so close and all he wanted was to finally have you.
“I’ll just leave you to it then, call me if you need anything.” He muttered, not moving from the side of the bed where he had walked so that he could set the box of pizza down. He clearly didn’t want to leave, and the somewhat panicked look you shot him told him that you didn’t want him to go. “Or I could stay for a while if you want.” He offered, heart swelling with hope.
“Please? Just until I fall asleep...don’t really wanna be alone just yet.” You admitted, opening the pizza box to grab a slice. You hated being so vulnerable, but Bucky seemed to have no problem with how needy you were feeling. It just made you feel guilty, he wasn’t your boyfriend, and you shouldn’t be using him like this. Your mind reminded you of Bryce yet again, the guilt pushing you to grab your cell phone with your free hand and send a quick text off to Bryce to tell him that you wouldn’t be home for the next couple days due to the break in. You included the hotel name and room number just in case he cared enough to bother with checking in on you.
Somehow you doubted that he would.
That was the last you thought of Bryce before you eventually fell asleep against Bucky’s chest. Your mind taking a course all its own as your dreams had you gripping against his body in your sleep as you whimpered and moaned out his name. Arousal slick between your thighs that you weren’t even aware of, but God could he smell it. That sweet honey between your thighs was calling to him, it was for him, and that was what made him finally break.
Before he could think to stop himself he’d gently laid you back against the hotel room bed, the sight of you laying there in nothing but his shirt only making his cock stiffen under the black jeans he wore. He eased himself lower, steel blue gaze keeping a watch for any sign that he’d woken you while he ever so gently pushed your thighs apart and bunched his shirt on you up around your waist. The scent of your arousal hit him in full force then, leaving his mouth watering for just a taste of you as he lowered his face between your spread thighs to drag a slow stripe against your folds.
The taste of you nearly caused him to groan, but he stifled the sound not wanting to wake you too soon. He dragged another stripe against your slick sex, cock twitching at the mewl of pleasure that it drew out of your sleeping form. Just a taste wasn’t enough, the taste of you was quickly making him ravenous and with his flesh hand he spread your soft folds and let himself indulge. His tongue stroked and swirled over the most intimate parts of you, bringing you pleasure that you thought was nothing but a dream. Your body knew better though, shifting against the man’s mouth when his tongue pressed into your virgin hole.
“Mmmm...Bucky….” His name rolled off of your tongue sinfully, and it had him throbbing in his jeans until he was rutting against the mattress in search for some relief. His tongue fucked into you, slowly, carefully, savoring everything you gave him as he let the fleshy muscle curl inside you and explore your fluttering walls. His nose nudged against your clit, the jolt of pleasure it sent shooting through you making you whine tiredly as your hips rocked against his face. He should stop now, he knew he should, but you were too addicting, too sweet, too good...just the taste of you was overriding every bit of restraint that he had and Bucky wanted nothing more than to bring you to the brink and send you toppling over it just so he could taste you creaming against his tongue.
That desire kept him there between your thighs, tongue working in and out of you as you whimpered and whined for him in your sleep until you were finally falling apart on his tongue. It jolted you awake, chest heaving as you looked around wildly and tried to make sense of it all before your wild and worried gaze finally landed on the man between your thighs.
“B-bucky!?” You didn’t know if you wanted to scream or cry, you felt good but you hadn’t expected this. Not from him, not from the man you were sure saw you as nothing but a friend.
“Shh, hey! Hey it’s okay, bunny.” He murmured, coming up from between your legs to press you back into the mattress of the hotel bed. “I know, I know...you’re confused. That’s okay, I understand...it’s,” he paused with a sigh as he ran his nose against your jaw, and you could feel the slick from your cunt smearing against your skin. “It’s not how I planned it, I just couldn’t help myself when I heard you moaning my name in your sleep. You were dreamin’ bout me, holdin me so tight like you needed me.” He sighed, pressing a kiss to your lips that your body returned all on its own. You had been dreaming about him, you couldn’t deny that...but still this was a shock. “Could smell ya too...so fuckin’ sweet, God, bunny you don’t know how long I’ve dreamt ‘bout tastin’ you.” He confessed, and you nervously licked your lips, tasting yourself against them as you whimpered when the cool metal of his left hand was felt against your inner thigh.
“Bucky, I-I can’t! I have a boyfriend.” You protested weakly, and for a moment his gaze hardened.
“A boyfriend you don’t even trust to help you when you need him most.” He countered, and you let your gaze drop to his chest out of shame because that was true. There was a reason you were here with Bucky and not with Bryce. “He doesn’t know how to take care of someone as special as you, bunny. I’m always the one you come to first, I take care of you.” You don’t reply to that, and suddenly his hand was gone from your thigh and was gripping your chin as he forced you to meet his gaze.
“I take care of you, don’t I?”
You nodded, Bucky was always there. Always helping and protecting you, and never asking anything in return.
“You trust me, don’t you?”
“Y-yes, but Bry—” He cut you off with a searing kiss that left you breathless and trembling under him.
“I just want to take care of you, bunny. ‘s’all I ever wanted since I met you. Let me take care of you...” He almost sounded desperate, almost needy, and you had to wonder if he would stop if you asked him. You wouldn’t find out, your mouth opening and answering before your brain could catch up.
“Okay, Bucky.” Your voice was a meek little whisper, but he heard it all the same and those metal digits were between your legs in an instant. You whined again, hips shifting against the cool metal as they pressed between your folds and he teased a single finger inside you carefully.
“Gotta stretch you out first, ‘s so tight. Don’t wanna hurt you, sweet girl.” He cooed as his thumb settled against your throbbing clit. The contrast of the cool metal against your burning flesh only heightened the sensation and it was all you could do to grip onto Bucky’s arm as your fingers tried to find purchase against the metal prosthetic.
Bryce had never made you feel this good, his fingers weren’t nearly as skilled and he never bothered to go down on you. All he ever tried to do was try to get you off as quickly as he could so he could attempt to guilt you into letting him be the first to fuck you.
But Bucky was taking his time, easing you open on his fingers and taking you apart almost methodically. With one finger carefully curled and pumping into your tight channel he was already working a second orgasm out of your sensitive little cunt. It only took the gentlest of strums against your clit from his thumb before you were clenching around that single digit, and Bucky took the moment to slide a second into you just at that moment. It had you gasping, body jumping away from his insistent fingers as they continued to work themselves in and out of you as you squirmed against the mattress.
Two orgasms in and Bucky seemed to want to push you to a third. It felt good at first, but now it was starting to feel like too much. You’d always stopped at one when touching yourself, and with Bryce one wasn’t even always guaranteed. The third orgasm wasn’t far off, and Bucky coaxed you through it with sweet kisses against your throat before he finally gave in to the urge to leave his mark against your skin. You didn’t even realize that he’d done it, too caught up in the moment of mindless pleasure to even care about the dark mark he’d sucked and bit into your flesh. You could only whine in protest when his fingers slid out of your quivering hole, the sudden feeling of being empty making you feel needy.
Bucky only shushed you, quickly working himself out of his clothes before slotting his thick body between your thighs. You tensed then, reluctantly letting him hold your thighs apart when you tried to close them and scoot up the bed. “I-I’ve never…”
“It’s okay, I know.” He admitted, and it left you wondering if you’d ever confessed that to him before. He kissed you again, pressed you into the stiff mattress until you were pliant under him and you could feel the swollen and blunt head of his leaking cock as it ran through your folds. He let your juices and cream coat his length, his hands sliding under his shirt that you still wore. “Just relax.” He urged, prodding against your entrance carefully. “Be my good girl, and let me in.” He muttered against your lips, and something in you flipped. You wanted to be his good girl, you wanted to show him just how much you did want him and trust him. You could give him this, not because he deserved it or earned it with good behavior, but because you didn’t want anyone else to have this moment but him. If you had known the truth of how he’d gotten you to this point you might have thought twice about that. You didn’t though, and so you nodded, silently urging him on. Bucky grinned, finally pushing into you and making you gasp and cling to him. His fingers hardly compared to the feeling of his thick cock claiming you for the first time, and the pain brought stinging tears to your eyes as you peered up at him.
He groaned at the feeling of your walls squeezing around him, and the sight of your tears made his cock throb inside you. He took his time at first, slow thrusts that had you taking more and more of him inch by inch until he felt impossibly deep inside you. The pain slowly blended into pleasure and before you knew it your whimpers of discomfort had twisted into little pleas for more as your legs wrapped themselves around his waist. Bucky’s thrusts grew harder then, drawing a loud cry of pleasure out of you that had the person in the next room over banging on the wall for you two to shut up. You ignored it, feeling too good wrapped around Bucky’s cock to care who heard you or what complaints they had. You were too busy begging him for more, a chant of “Fuck me, daddy.” and “Harder! Please, more!” on your lips.
Bucky swore he’d never heard a more beautiful sound, and hearing you call him daddy was nearly his undoing. His thumb found your clit, drawing quick circles against it as he pushed you over the edge again. The tight squeeze of your walls around him as they convulsed and pulled him deeper making his head fall back with a loud groan. “Fuck! Bunny, you’re a goddamn dream.” He praised, voice a low gravelly husk against your ear as he continued to rut into you while your nails dragged down his back hard enough that you were sure you’d broken the skin. Bucky hardly cared, he’d be healed by the time morning came, and the pain only added a certain edge to his pleasure that had him bucking his hips harder into you.
“My fucking dream.” He growled out, causing you to reply in a desperate moan as he all but fucked you into the mattress. Bucky reared back then, vibranium hand lazily curling around your throat and simply resting there like a promise. “You’re mine,” He asserted, and you mewled in agreement, too lost to the pleasure to even consider denying him. “I’m your first, gonna be your last.” He added just the smallest bit of pressure against your throat then, and you clenched around him in response so hard that for a second he lost his rhythm. “Shit...you’re such a good girl.” He muttered, taking a moment to regain his sense of control before spilled sooner than he wanted.
In the back of your mind you could hear that bothersome voice trying to remind you of Bryce, but he didn’t matter. Not now, he was the last person you wanted to think about. “When you wake up in the morning you’re gonna call that little bastard and break it off with him.” It was an order, there was no mistaking it and when you hesitated to reply whether it be from the overwhelming pleasure of Bucky’s cock fucking the thoughts from your mind and his thumb still circling against your clit, or because he thought you were still trying to hold on to your relationship with Bryce, Bucky’s grip tightened further.
“You’re gonna break it off with him, or ‘m gonna take care of him just like I did with all the rest.”
Your eyes flew open at that, mouth opening to try and demand he elaborate only for that to be the moment that a mind shattering orgasm hit. All that left you was a wordless cry, body arching up from the bed as you gushed around Bucky’s cock and fell back trembling. He gave in to his own pleasure then, unable to hold off any longer and with a loud shout he surged forward and let his spend paint your walls while he fucked you through his orgasm until he was sure your body had squeezed every last drop from him.
Bucky collapsed beside you, gathering you up in his arms so that he could hold you close and bask in the post sex high that settled around you two.
You were too far gone to think about the threat and confession he’d made, not wanting to deal with the implications of it just yet. For the moment you just wanted to be there, mind empty and body blissfully exhausted.
“Never letting you go, bunny. I mean it, you’re mine.”
It was the last thing you heard before you drifted off to sleep...and the first thing you heard was knocking at the hotel room door.
And the sound of Bryce on the other side demanding that you let him in.
Leaning against the counter you tried to slow your breath and calm down after what you had just seen. A slutty little sweet butt, practically grinding herself against the man you’d been seeing – the man you thought was yours. Hell, he hadn’t told you that you were his old lady, but countless nights tangled up in his sheets at the clubhouse had you thinking that you were something more. Anything more.
You watched the way he smirked at her before you finally got sick of the sight and stormed into the bathroom down the hall.
Embarrassment flooded you as you realized what a waste your efforts with him were. You tried your best to play it cool, go easy and casual with Bucky because that's the pace that he set. But now you knew that he was just stringing you along out of convenience.
Deep blue eyes locked with yours as you stared into the mirror, the brawny biker slipping into the bathroom behind you.
“You just couldn’t help yourself, could ya Buck?” you sneered at his reflection.
“C’mon darlin’, don’t be like that.” His big, warm hands slowly slid around your waist from behind.
You turned in his hold, glaring up into his stupid gorgeous eyes. He towered over you and his large frame took over the cramped space. Why did he have to look like that? All broody, and irresistible, and annoyingly beguiling. Just having his hands on you made you want to fall down the rabbit hole, pretend like it didn’t bother you, as if your heart wasn’t on the line and you were perfectly fine – but then he smirked.
Anger rose up your chest as you looked at him, grinning at you like he did at her. Rage took over. “I’m fucking done with you!” you shouted, shoving his broad chest away from you, but he didn’t move an inch and you hated how hot that was. His body emanated power, and his presence made you weak.
Bucky’s eyebrows raised, his mouth slightly opening as his gaze darkened. “Nothing happened, and nothing was gonna happen, honest,” he declared. He sounded sincere, and you despised the way you felt your hard exterior fragment at his words.
That smug smirk graced his lips again, and you wanted to slap it off, or more honestly, kiss it off.
“You didn’t want something to happen with her?”
He crowded you, pushing you up against the counter behind you, close enough to feel the heat permeating off his body. “Now why would I want that when I have this sexy little spitfire right here?”
You rolled your eyes, biting your lip as you fought to hold onto your resolve the best you could. God, you just wanted him to hurt a little bit, wanted to be the one to walk away. “You don’t have me, Bucky.”
Gently running the back of his knuckles down the side of your face, his gaze flickered from your mouth to your eyes. “Don’t I?” he questioned, unaffected by your lie.
Gasping at his arrogance, “You son of a bitch.” You were done, this was it. He was used to getting his way with every girl he came across, but you weren’t going to give the self-righteous bastard the satisfaction.
His gruff voice broke your train of thought. “Because you sure as hell have me.”
Your breath hitched as you looked into his dark dilated pupils – he meant it.
“You’re only gonna break my heart, I don't think we should –”
His lips cut you off before you could end it. His tongue was hot and determined. His hands moved up and cupped your jaw as he held you in place, kissing you until you couldn’t think. Until you forgot why you were mad in the first place, only knowing that you needed him.
“You can’t quit me, baby,” he whispered against your lips. His hypnotic eyes reminded you that you were too far gone; his lips against your neck as his rough hands slid down and up your skirt, kneading your ass harshly cemented his possession.
With his sinful blue eyes transfixed on yours, he dropped to his knees between your legs and licked up the length of your inner thigh. Heat bloomed in your core as you gave in, watching him kiss his way up your thighs, biting into your flesh as his eyes held yours. Whimpering out, you tugged him closer, needing more. Bucky chuckled darkly before burying his face in between your thighs, licking and sucking you through your lacy g-string. He hooked his thumbs into the sides of your panty and eased them off before swiftly hooking your leg over his shoulder and swiping his hot thick tongue through your wet folds.
Your hands fell to his hair, holding him in place. “So fuckin’ good,” he groaned under his breath, his eyes closed in pleasure as he licked you from your entrance to clit, over and over again.
Without warning he shoved two thick fingers into your center, working you over as his tongue fixated on your bundle of nerves. The cool metal of his rings sliding against your hot skin created a delicious contrast. You moaned in between gasps of air, watching as he took care of what he knew belonged to him. The grip on his hair got harsher and he could tell you were close, feeling your needy muscles quiver – his favorite tell-tale sign.
Unable to control yourself you trembled in pleasure, body convulsing as you came undone. “That’s it, baby,” he purred, helping you through it, curling his fingers deeper inside of you. Mischievous eyes watched in appreciation, his chest swelling with pride as you whimpered out his name.
While your anger had been snuffed out to embers, your passion for him reignited the flame.
You coaxed Bucky to stand before tearing at his shirt, pulling his cut and flannel open so that you could nip at his neck. You bit and sucked your way down to his tattooed chest, leaving your mark as you went.
Tugging at his belt, you swiftly undid his jeans, desperate to feel him. Before you could wrap your hand around his heavy length, he gripped the back of your thighs and pressed you hard up against the wall across from the mirror; where you could watch as he wrecked you.
Holding you there with his hips and hands, he leaned forward to capture your lips before lining himself up; only pulling back a split second to watch your face as he buried himself inside of you, driving home with one hard thrust. You gasped at the stretch and intense familiar pressure. Bucky had fucked you so many times, but that first plunge never failed to take your breath away; always reminded you how no other man could ever fill you so right.
His hips snapped into yours mercilessly, striking you roughly again and again at an unwavering pace.
You threw your head back and lost yourself in a daze, incapable of uttering a word. Fuck, you’d let him do whatever he wanted if he’d keep on using your body like that.
“You’re all I want,” he growled, his teeth on your neck.
As he recklessly thrusted in deeper than imaginable, you almost missed the quiet click of the door. But then your eyes locked in the mirror with that dumb skank that wanted your man.
Her eyes nearly bulged out in surprise and you took the opportunity to toss her a devilish grin as Bucky took you apart. That’s right bitch, mine.
She scurried off right before your back arched off the wall, your muscles tightening around him.
“Oh, fuck –”
“Takin’ all of me so fuckin’ well,” Bucky grinded his pelvis into you, rubbing your clit each time he bottomed out, knocking the air from your lungs. He was lost in you, and all you could do was take it. Wrapping your legs tighter around his waist, you pulled him impossibly closer, until your walls spasmed as you shattered in his arms. But he wasn’t done with you; he rutted into you hard, watching proudly as your body quaked between the wall and him. You clenched him perfectly, pulsating around him so hard it sent him over the edge.
You bit his lip as you felt his thrusts grow erratic. Bucky groaned out your name as he jerked violently, emptying himself – branding your insides with his hot release.
He’d be happy to spend the rest of his days living in you. His brain was foggy, but his heart knew who he was supposed to be with. Resting his forehead against yours, he panted as he tried to calm down.
Wrapping your hand around his jaw, you smiled softly. “I love it when we fight,” you admitted.
He chuckled and squeezed your thighs. “Me too, darlin’,” he nipped your lip. “But I’m starting to think you start these fights because you know how it’ll end.”
You giggled at his words, he was onto your game. “Maybe I do,” you whispered just before your lips met his for a soft, sweet kiss.
You were everything he wanted in a woman, you gave him more than he ever thought he’d find in his world. Right then, he made a mental note to stop entertaining the advances of other girls. His soul was already taken. But damn was it true, the fights always led to the best sex.
Carefully pulling himself out, he gently set you down, keeping his arms around your waist as you stood on wobbly legs. Your smudged eye makeup, those gorgeous sultry lips, and the way you looked at him – Bucky was a goner.
You were his weakness, and he knew then what he’d never said out loud – all he needed from this life was his bike, the club, and his best girl.
That night after you had fallen asleep, Bucky slipped out of your room to get a drink. He had spotted your red knit scarf on your desk and placed it around his neck before leaving. After all, Natasha did say that he should cover up and he figured you might like to tell her about your relationship yourself.
He heard Nat chatting with Bruce and made a show of securing your scarf over his shoulder rather dramatically as he walked past the two of them sitting on the couches.
“Happy?” he teased, running his hand over the scarf pointedly.
Nat furrowed her brows. “Shouldn’t your hickeys be faded by now? And where did you get that, I swear I’ve seen it before.”
Bucky shrugged, “The store.” He wasn’t in the mood to explain, he just wanted to make some tea before returning to you. That’s how he ended up wearing your scarf with his white tee shirt and black joggers, an outfit that made zero sense.
“Fine, keep your secrets. And in the future, put the scarf on before the sweet girl with the most loving heart has to be subjected to that,” Nat gestured towards his neck with an irritated look.
Bucky bit his lip, reminding himself that you would prefer to tell her yourself. “Not a problem,” he saluted her from the kitchen.
Nat sauntered into the kitchen to grab an apple just as Bucky finished pouring out two cups of chamomile tea. One in the wolf mug you had gotten for him, the other in your favorite red mug. The night was still young, and you had fallen asleep early; he had a feeling you’d wake up and want something to drink soon.
“Two cups?” Nat inquired.
Bucky’s eyes widened, he had to think of a good reason. “No, well yeah,” he let out a nervous laugh. “I’m really thirsty.”
“Then why didn’t you use a bigger mug? And isn’t that Y/N’s fav–”
“What is this, an interrogation?” he blurted out as he dragged a hand through his hair. “I have to go, my tea is getting cold.” He swiftly strode out with his drinks, hoping that the jig wasn’t up for your sake.
Natasha watched as he walked off with that oddly familiar scarf trailing behind him. The normally stoic Bucky was flustered as he covered for the recipient of that second mug. Given your nonchalance towards his earlier love-bitten state, she knew then what you had both worked so hard to conceal – you were sleeping with Bucky.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
The following morning you decided to grab coffee before Bucky woke up. He looked too peaceful to disturb, so you figured a quick jaunt to the kitchen would be for the best; that’d give you more time for cuddles and kisses prior to starting your day.
You knew that you could start telling people about your relationship, but Bucky had done a number on your neck and you figured you may as well cover it up so that the two of you could share your new official status together.
After a quick scan of your room you realized that your scarf wasn’t where you’d left it, so you decided to go without. It wasn’t super likely that you’d run into anyone on your way.
Just as you finished pouring out the second mug of coffee, Nat came in and sat in the seat in front of you. So much for an inconspicuous little trip.
“Two cups,” she smirked as her gaze glossed over your neck, scattered with hickeys. “Good for you, Barnes isn’t the only one that deserves to have some fun.”
You smiled awkwardly. “Right, of course not.”
“So this was why you weren’t upset when you saw him yesterday? Already had someone of your own.” She feigned ignorance, although she was already certain about what was really going on.
Biting your lip to suppress a smile, you remembered that Bucky wanted to tell everyone, and perhaps you could drop the act now. “I wasn’t upset for a few reasons, Nat.” Heat rushed to your cheeks as you were about to confess the truth. But then Bucky walked in, wearing your scarf along with his pajamas again.
Nat cocked an eyebrow at Bucky. “They really should be faded by now, no?”
“Oh, yeah… I’m cold,” he lied, smiling sheepishly at you.
Her gaze returned to yours, a knowing smirk playing on her lips. “How long?”
Bucky came up next to you, breathing a sigh of relief.
You reached up and started to undo the scarf. “A while,” you grinned, unwrapping your scarf from your goofy boyfriend’s neck.
He pressed a kiss to your forehead before grabbing his coffee.
“So those flowers I saw Bucky bringing in last week, those were for you?”
You shrugged with a dopey grin.
“Who’d you think they were for? I’ve only wanted her for as long as I’ve known her.” Bucky wrapped his arm around your waist, resting his chin on top of your head.
“I can’t believe I didn’t see it,” she shook her head in disbelief. It was apparently more than hooking up, and she was astonished by the fact that she’d missed the signs.
Sam stepped into the kitchen, seeking out coffee for himself. “Hey Buck, are we still on for training this afternoon?” He asked as he poured out a cup, unaffected by the way the giant man was wrapped around you.
Bucky nodded casually, not trying to hide a thing.
Nat looked between the men. “You knew?!”
Sam smirked. “Some spy you are.”
“You all suck,” she sarcastically rolled her eyes. Nat couldn't believe that she was one step behind you two, but regardless, she was more than content to see her friends so happy together.
“I love you!” you exclaimed to placate your best friend. It was hard not to feel a little bad for hiding things from her.
“Yeah, yeah, we’ll discuss this later.” A trace of a smile crossed her face and you knew that all would be well.
Inhaling a breath, relief washed over you as you let go of the tension you didn’t even know you were carrying by keeping the secret.
Standing abruptly, Nat gestured towards the couches. “C’mon Sam, let's leave the lovebirds so you can fill me in on all the fun gossip you have on them.”
Sam chuckled, following after her. “You would not believe what I saw Bucky wearing as he snuck out of Y/N’s room.”
“Samuel, I swear to god,” Bucky warned.
You giggled at his empty threat before leaning your head back against his solid, warm chest. You were grateful that you’d no longer have to hide the way you felt about him from the world.
Bucky tightened the hold that he had on you before whispering in your ear. “You laughing at me, baby?”
Turning in his arms, a soft smile tugged at your lips as you met his deep blue gaze. “Why, I’d never.”
He pouted his bottom lip as he pretended to sulk for a brief moment before letting out a laugh himself. He was fine with Sam divulging all his secrets because he had you, completely.
Bucky beamed as he brushed his thumb over your cheekbone, taking in the beauty of the woman he loved so deeply. Clasping your hand, he brought it up and put it over his heart, finally ready to tell you his sweetest secret. “You know… I love you.”
You felt the strong beat hammering hard in his chest. Your own heart racing just as fast as he smiled down at you.
Leaning up, you pressed a sweet, tender kiss to his lips. “What a coincidence… because I love you too.”
The truth was uncovered, and somehow that brought you even closer to the man that held your heart from the day you met, and every single moment after.
“We shouldn't, right? It’d be too cruel,” Natasha asked warily.
“Nat, they have so many things in common, and frankly I am tired of their bitter rivalry over every little thing. We can’t finish a game of Uno without things getting contentious. And god forbid that they end up on the opposite team for charades,” Sam said. “Would giving them a chance at meeting outside of our game nights be so bad?”
“No, but you know how they get when they’re left alone.”
“Bitter and argumentative, sure, but maybe there’s a hidden spark just waiting to ignite into a blazing passionate fire.”
Nat looked at Sam incredulously, “I think you’re doing this to get back at Barnes for flirting with your sister.”
Sam smiled sheepishly, “Well why did you offer to set her up on the blind date to begin with? You were fully on board at one point.”
“I just feel like there is something there that they’re not seeing, and I have a strong sense that if given the chance, it could work out really well. Plus Bucky’s not a bad guy, and after the dates she’s been on — well I trust him at least a little bit.”
“And at the end of the day it will be a really funny story if it backfires,” Sam said cheekily.
Nat sighed, a knowing smirk playing on her lips, “Yeah, can’t argue with that.”
┈┈┈┈┈・・
You walked up to the doors of the restaurant with purpose. Your best friends Nat and Sam had set you up on a blind date, and while the thought of that was unnerving, you trusted their judgment. Blind dates were a fun way of meeting people, or so you told yourself, and at the very least you knew that the mystery man was vetted by reliable people, so it shouldn’t be too bad.
With a deep breath you opened the door and walked towards the hostess.
“Hello, do you have a reservation?” the cheery wide-eyed brunette asked.
“I believe my date is already here. Is there a man in a blue shirt waiting for someone? I was told that’s what he would be wearing,” you said.
“Yes, of course. He got in a few minutes ago, told me to expect a woman in a burgundy dress,” she said as she took in your attire. “Right this way,” she said gleefully before quickly grabbing a couple menus and walking you towards a candlelit corner booth.
You couldn’t see the man given the angle of the booth, but the moment you arrived at the table you were filled with instant regret.
“And here we are, your waiter will be right out in a second,” the jovial hostess said before giving you a sly wink and leaving you to be.
You were met with familiar blue eyes that looked just as bewildered as yours.
“You’ve got to be kidding me. You?!” you exclaimed at your annoying foe.
“I’ve got to be kidding? What the hell are you doing here?”
You huffed out a breath before sliding into the seat across from Bucky. “Obviously this is some kind of punishment aimed at you for taking things too far last Saturday.”
He ran a hand through his hair, “When I play charades, I play to win, you know this.”
“I know, but did you have to nearly flip Sam’s coffee table?”
“This isn’t worth rehashing, what do we do, just go home?” he asked.
“I’m hungry, and while I could go find something to eat elsewhere, we’re already here. Can you keep it together without any drama for a little while?” you asked sarcastically.
“Only if you can,” he said with a raised brow.
“Great, I’ll just need a lot of wine, but then I’ll be good to go.”
“Perfect, let’s get a bottle or two,” he said before flagging down a waiter.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
“Some prank huh?” you muttered after placing both your food and drink order because you had no intention of prolonging the night.
“I know this is Sam’s way of getting back at me for something.”
“Yeah no doubt, but I’m not sure what I did to deserve this.”
“Right, because you’re perfect,” Bucky said drily.
“Exactly.”
Bucky leaned back and looked at you with a tight smile. “So what do we do to get back at them? I don’t think they should get away with setting us up on a date that they knew wouldn’t work out.”
“Whoa, I’m a damn delight, this could’ve worked out if you were anyone else.”
Bucky pinched the bridge of his nose. “Why are you like this? I only agreed to this because Sam said this girl was unlike any I’d dated before. I didn’t think he’d mean it so literally.”
You furrowed your brows. “The hell is that supposed to mean?”
He rolled his eyes, “Nothing bad, I just usually got along with my exes, at least for a while. You and I, on the other hand, have never gotten along.”
You nodded your head, “Yeah that’s true.” You paused for a minute as the waiter brought out your wine and poured it into your glasses, leaving behind the bottle.
After taking a few gulps, “Maybe you were right, I mean you pulled out an iron for that shirt, we can’t let them get away with this,” you said jokingly.
“Thank you for noticing,” he said as he subconsciously ran his hands over his nicely pressed shirt. “So what are we thinking? We could TP their house,” he said before taking a big swig of his wine.
You scoffed, “Bucky, how old are you?”
“Well give us an idea, smartypants.”
You sighed, taking a moment to contemplate. Unfortunately, you realized every option would be juvenile. “Ugh I don’t know. Sadly, the mature thing to do would be to pretend like this didn’t affect us so that they don’t get the reaction they hoped for.”
“That’s lame,” he said as your waiter brought out your food.
“So is their prank,” you muttered before taking a bite of your pasta.
The two of you ate in silence for a little bit because neither of you knew how to speak to each other companionably. It was always quips, retorts, and sarcastic remarks that fueled your conversations.
After a beat, you asked, “Did you pick out the restaurant?”
Bucky furrowed his brow, “Why, do you hate it?”
Your eyes widened, “No, I actually really like it.”
“Oh,” he chuckled in surprise. “I did, it’s my favorite spot for good Italian food.”
“Ah, well you’ve got decent taste — at least in food,” you said with a small smirk.
He tugged at his bottom lip, trying to suppress a smile. “Do you want more wine?”
“Yes please.”
Heat rose to your cheeks as the effects of the wine were finally making itself known. With one bottle down and another on the way, you felt a little more at ease in Bucky’s presence.
“I don’t know why Nat would set me up with you, no offense — like she knows that I just got out of something a little messy.”
Bucky’s eyes softened as he looked at you. “I know Sam is doing this to mess with me, but I can’t figure out what Nat’s thought process was in all of this. She’s usually so protective of you.”
“Yeah, I guess I’ll have to be more wary of her,” you said timidly. If you were completely sober you would shrug this off as a silly prank, but you weren’t and it was hard to process why your friend would mess with you in an area in which she knew you held many trust issues.
Before you could ponder any further, the waiter reemerged, pouring more wine for the two of you. The two of you happily drank some more, not completely hating the date any longer.
“You know what would be kind of funny?” Bucky mumbled more to himself.
“Hmm?”
“If we pretended that this date was amazing and that we liked each other after it.”
“Like liked each other?” you asked in surprise.
He let out a laugh, “Yes, like we felt a spark and decided to keep seeing each other.”
You giggled, “They’d never see that coming! But that would be hard to pull off.”
“I know,” Bucky blushed at the thought.
“Regardless, you can’t seem to keep your cool around me when you’re sober, so it would never work.”
Bucky huffed out a breath, “Yeah that’s true, plus you despise me and start arguments for no reason whenever given the chance,” he shrugged.
You scoffed, “Right, I’m argumentative for absolutely no reason and you never upset me on purpose,” you muttered.
“That’s exactly right,” he said matter-of-factly.
“I don’t know why you live to agitate me, I could totally keep it together and do it convincingly too.”
“Correction, you live to annoy me, and I know I could keep it together way better than you,” he said, crossing his arms over his chest.
“Wanna bet?” you blurted out.
Bucky’s eyebrows raised, his interest was piqued. “Bet?”
“We do the pretend thing to mess with Nat and Sam — the first to back out loses.”
Bucky narrowed his eyes as he considered the proposition; it would be a good way to get back at Sam. And he would take that bet on principle just to prove you wrong and show you that you were the irrational one, but he knew something else was needed to make it more interesting.
“What’s at stake? If we’re going to pretend to like each other in front of our friends it’s gotta be worthwhile.”
“Loser has to clean the winner’s place for a month.”
“Make it two months with laundry included and you’ve got yourself a deal. I could use the break.”
You snickered as you reached for your wine glass once more. “Yeah, and when I win you can enjoy the extra month of cleaning you’ll have to do at my place and yours.”
Bucky tilted his head, “Are we really doing this, or what?”
You extended your hand, “Two months of cleaning for whoever bails or starts drama first.”
He stretched out his hand, engulfing yours completely — and thus commenced the charade.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
You woke up feeling dehydrated and hungover; you needed a painkiller and a giant cup of water to quell the throbbing in your head. Begrudgingly getting up to retrieve that from your kitchen was a difficult endeavor, but it certainly helped you feel a bit better afterwards. Once your head felt a little less heavy you thought back to the bet you made with Bucky. Even though you were drunk then, it wasn’t difficult to remember every detail of the conversation now.
In the light of day you started to feel uncertain about following through with it, and you wondered if Bucky was going to bring it up himself. You wouldn’t be mad if he didn’t, but as you put some bread in the toaster you felt your phone buzz in your pocket.
Bucky: Hi sugarplum, honey pie…
Well shit, he remembered. There was no way you were going to back down now.
Y/N: Workshopping nicknames are we?
Bucky: Duh. I’m in it to win it, muffin.
Y/N: Okay good for you, but why are you texting me? There’s no one around to see.
Bucky: Nat didn’t text you?
You were about to type that she had not, but your phone began to buzz at that moment. Speaking of the devil, it was Nat calling to likely see how her crappy set-up went. Before answering you reminded yourself that you didn’t want to be Bucky’s housekeeper.
You soon found out that Sam had already spoken to Bucky and that Nat was checking to confirm if you really were good to grab coffee in an hour. She seemed genuinely excited to hear that things went well with Bucky, which confused you immensely. Nat even claimed that she knew something was there, but before you could ask her to elaborate on that she had to run. Before hanging up, you agreed to meet up with them.
So much for coasting for a few days before having to play pretend.
Before you could grumble about it too much you remembered that you had to text Bucky back before getting ready. You pulled up your messages and quickly typed out your response.
Y/N: Nat called, I guess I’ll be seeing you soon.
Bucky: Right, I was going to ask if you wanted me to pick you up on my way.
You couldn’t tell if he was being nice or whether he was trying to further prolong your suffering, but you had a feeling it was the latter.
Y/N: Fine.
Bucky: Cool, I’ll text you before I leave, babygirl :P
You rolled your eyes at your screen.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
Bucky pulled up to your place wearing a bright smile ten minutes before you were set to meet up with the other couple.
“What are you so happy about?” you asked as you buckled your seatbelt.
“I’m just really looking forward to the upcoming two months of chore-free living, that’s all. Seeing you reminded me of what a great break I’m about to get.”
You scoffed, “Wow, well I wouldn’t be too sure about that yet, Barnes.”
“Barnes? No pet name for me, doll?” he asked cheekily.
“I’ll think about it. Can we just save the talking for when we get to the coffee shop? I don’t even know why we’re doing this today.”
“Steve and Sharon are out of town, so game night is pushed to tomorrow. Guess Sam and Nat still wanted to see us, and I think they’re also trying to confirm that we’re a thing.”
“Well I am looking forward to messing with them about that,” you mumbled.
Bucky hummed in agreement, “Same, but let’s see how long you can hold out.”
“All I know is it’ll be longer than you.”
Bucky scoffed as he turned a corner, “Right, just try not to fall in love with me while you’re at it.”
You snorted, “Shouldn’t be a problem.”
“Why’s that?” he asked with a self-assured smirk on his face. Bucky loved to mess with you, mainly because you were the only one that could keep up with him.
You huffed a breath, “Because, I like my men a little less dick-ish.”
“Ah, yes, that would be an issue then,” he said as he parked his car. After a second, he turned towards you with a smug smile, “But is too much dick, really that bad?”
Groaning internally, you tried to rush out of the vehicle, ready for a moment away from him already. But Bucky was too quick, and he was there to help you out of the car once your door was open. You mumbled a thank you and moved to get across the street, but in your haste to get away, you tripped and stumbled onto the road.
“Y/N!” Bucky shouted. He quickly grabbed your hand and tugged you back just as a cyclist zoomed past, barely missing you.
All too fast, you heard a whiz of air and a shouting of expletives from the cyclist before you were roughly pulled against Bucky’s broad chest. “Shit!” you exclaimed, as you tried to recover your balance.
“Are you alright?” Bucky asked as he placed his hands on your shoulders to steady you. He looked at you with concern, only now noticing the stunning hue of your eyes. He unconsciously brushed his thumb over your cheekbone, hoping to calm you, or perhaps himself as he took in your beauty.
Your heart raced as you stared into his sparkling blue eyes. And when you took a deep breath to calm yourself, you accidentally inhaled his warm cologne — like sandalwood and vanilla. Wow, did he always smell that good?
Shaking your head and coming back to your senses, you finally found your voice. “This isn’t Fifty Shades of Grey. Thank you for saving me but I’m not going to gaze longingly into your eyes.” You only hoped that he wouldn’t bring up the fact that you had essentially done that already.
Bucky slowly released the grip he had on you, finally remembering where he was. “You sure? Could be good practice?” he said with a soft smirk on his lips. He was too mesmerized to call you out on that little moment, he was too caught up in you.
You released a breath, before nodding your head. “I’m sure.”
“Okay, well then it’s time to go put on a show. Is it alright if I hold your hand, for appearances of course?” Bucky didn’t tell you that he only wanted to make sure that you crossed the street safely. He was feeling unexpectedly protective over you after that adrenaline-inducing moment, and he was grateful when you wordlessly slipped your hand into his.
As you crossed the street together, Bucky felt a weird sensation in his chest — and that worried him more than he cared to admit.
Once you arrived in front of the coffee shop’s door, you both shared a knowing look. Plastering a fake smile on your face, you stepped inside as he held the door open for you. “Thank you, boo bear,” you said, looking back with a wink.
Bucky looked at you in surprise. Oh, so she’s not going to make this easy on me.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
“So you guys really hit it off, huh?” Sam asked curiously as you curled up next to Bucky in the wooden booth.
Sam’s narrowed eyes showed his disbelief, but Nat appeared smitten and excited for whatever response you were going to give.
“We did, what can I say?” you said gleefully as you looked into Bucky’s eyes. He tried to contain a smile, but failed miserably. You were too good at this, and he knew he had to put in some work to keep up.
“It was strange,” Bucky chimed in. “It was like I saw her for the first time last night. Suddenly, all of our petty arguments seemed ridiculous.” You looked over at him suspiciously as he spoke all too convincingly. He continued, “She was wearing this burgundy dress that looked so gorgeous on her, and I knew then that I wanted her. And of course, let’s not forget, she’s always challenged me like no other. She makes me want to be a better man. So thanks so much for the set up, Samuel,” he said with a charming smile.
Nat listened attentively to every word, as Sam sat still, finding it all hard to believe. Bucky and you were practically sworn enemies from almost the moment you crossed paths. Sam knew Bucky’s aversion was because he thought you were an “exasperating wisecrack.” And Nat knew your disdain stemmed from the first rude encounter you had with Bucky, where he told you he thought you were an “annoying know-it-all.”
From those early moments he couldn’t stand you, and you had trouble speaking with him without getting upset. Undoubtedly, it was petty and based off of the most trivial encounter, but it magnified over time. Game nights with the gang only amplified your animosity, which continued to grow through seemingly every interaction you both shared.
“Yes, thank you Nat. Seeing Bucky all cleaned up last night, looking so handsome, just did something to me. I knew then that I had to have him,” you said, groaning internally as you spoke.
Sam nodded his head, seemingly convinced. “Well, I’m happy for you both. You guys deserve something good.” The two of you together wasn’t entirely implausible, because despite the surface hostility, he knew you both respected each other.
“I guess this means game nights are going to look a little different too then, huh?” Nat asked teasingly.
Bucky looked at you, “Of course, we’re on the same team now. Isn’t that right, baby?”
“So true, bunny,” you said as you looked into his cerulean eyes.
Nat spoke up, “I am loving this, so so much! I cannot wait until tomorrow night.”
“Me too,” Bucky mumbled.
“Me three,” you said, lying through your teeth.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
The ride home was uncharacteristically quiet. Neither you nor Bucky had anything to say to each other. You were starting to feel a little weird about the bet, mainly because it wasn’t exceedingly hard to uphold. Playing nice wasn’t nearly as difficult as you imagined it’d be, and that felt strange. It’s not that you loved Bucky’s company, but you didn’t hate it as much as you usually did either.
Bucky was feeling his own version of unusual, because he too realized that sustaining the bet was too easy. He had been fairly honest, and he realized when he spoke of how beautiful you looked the night before, that he meant every word. Hopefully, things will change at game night.
He still felt compelled to check on you despite his desire to win. After parking in front of your place, he turned to you. “Are you sure you want to keep doing this? We can come clean before game night because I’m pretty sure we’ve convinced them and made up for their prank.”
“Is that your way of attempting to quit?” you asked curiously. Sure, you felt odd, but you were still in it to win it.
Bucky huffed out of breath, “No, I was giving you an out in case this isn’t something you wanted to do anymore. We could call off the bet and have no winner or loser if you want.”
“That kind of defeats the purpose of this whole thing, Bucky,” you said frankly.
“I… I know.” He shrugged his shoulders, unsure of what he was even trying to say in the first place. “So then, I’ll pick you up at 5 tomorrow?”
“Sure, and thanks for driving me today, boo bear,” you said as you opened the car door.
He let out a laugh, “Can I put in a request for another pet name?”
“You can, but it might not get approved,” you beamed before shutting the door and leaving him alone with his thoughts.
And that consisted of the thought of you in his arms, the feel of your hand in his, and the memory of you in that dress.
Shit.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
The following day, you tried not to dwell on the unusual feelings you had about the night before. They didn’t matter, and you figured Bucky would finally start some drama later on at game night. He was too competitive not to, and that made you excited about what was to come.
By the time Bucky had come to get you, you were giddy to get the show on the road. You both made casual small talk, and seemed to be in good spirits. The two of you even set boundaries on public displays of affection quite easily, agreeing on everything but kissing. However, your plans were briefly thwarted when Nat texted you, asking if you could pick up some ingredients that she forgot to get from the store. After letting Bucky know, the two of you stopped at the supermarket along the way.
“What did she say she needed?” Bucky asked as he grabbed a cart.
“Just a couple of things for her dip. We don’t even need a cart.”
“That’s okay, I like to drive it.”
“Suit yourself. I just need a few things from the produce section,” you said before heading in that direction.
“Alright, I’ll meet you there in a minute. I’m going to grab a couple drinks.”
You nodded, as you made your way to grab the vegetables you needed. As you picked out some celery, you were disappointed to see your recent ex, if you could even call him that, Quentin headed your way. Things abruptly ended early on after you found out that he had a wife. After a crappy first date, and a dramatic second date where his wife stormed in, you realized he was an absolute tool. He still called and texted you afterwards, trying to see if you were willing to look past it but you blocked his number after declining multiple times.
“Well if it isn’t Y/N. How have you been, sugar?” he asked obnoxiously.
“Quentin, —.”
Bucky interjected before you could respond. “Hey, doll. Do you remember the whiskey Sam had last weekend? I forgot the brand name,” he said as he stood behind the cart facing you and Quentin. He furrowed his brow as he took in your demeanor — he couldn’t tell what was going on, but he could see that you were bothered.
“Hey, um I don’t remember.”
“Oh alright, well did you find —.”
Quentin narrowed his eyes as he looked at you, “Who the hell is this, Y/N?” he interrogated.
Bucky was taken aback, but he finally understood from context that this had to be one of your crappy exes. He chimed in before you had to. “I’m her boyfriend, and I don’t really care who you are,” he said as he crossed his arms over his chest, making himself appear broader. “Ready to go, doll?” he asked, not giving Quentin a second glance.
Quentin was so shocked by the turn of events that he couldn’t think of a response.
You nodded your head as you placed the greens in the cart. Bucky reached out for your hand, after you put everything down, which you gladly took.
“Do you actually need anything else?” he asked as you turned the corner.
“No, I’ve got it all. And thanks for the assist back there.”
“Any time,” he said as he squeezed your hand. For a moment you forgot that he was still holding it, and by the looks of it, he did too. “Oh um, sorry,” he said, slowly letting go of your hand.
Bucky knew he shouldn’t, but he wondered if you felt it too, the captivating force that was pulling him to you — a small part of him wished you did.
“Nothing to be sorry about,” you mumbled as your heart skipped a beat. And you’d be lying if you said you didn’t miss the feel of your fingers intertwined with his.
“I forgot to ask, do you want me to circle back and kick his ass?”
You let out a laugh, looking up at him in disbelief. “You’d do that for me?”
Bucky cracked a smile, “Anything for my sugarplum,” he teased, nudging you gently. You only shook your head and tried to suppress a smile in response.
And even if his tone was playful, he couldn't help but feel like he meant it.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
After arriving at Sam and Nat’s you took the opportunity to step away from Bucky. You had a feeling things would get contentious soon enough, and a brief break before that wouldn’t be the worst thing. Heading to the kitchen you dropped off the groceries and caught up with the girls.
“How have things been with Bucky?” Nat asked suggestively, wiggling her eyebrows.
“Oh my goodness, is that why you two arrived together?!” Wanda asked excitedly.
“Nat, it's only been a couple of days, but it’s been great. He’s a good guy.”
“That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. I know you guys clashed when you met, but he’s a good person. I’m so glad you’re seeing that now.”
Wanda chimed in, “Bucky really is the best — so chivalrous and handsome. I’m happy you guys settled your differences, because you make a lovely pair.”
“Thanks ladies,” you mumbled, taking a good swig of your beer. You were well aware that this was supposed to be a prank — mess with Sam and Nat for setting you up on a bad date, and get a couple months of cleaning out of Bucky. But it didn’t seem like the others were taking it the way you had intended. You weren’t feeling the satisfaction that you thought would come from pranking them, and Bucky was being entirely kind to you. How the hell is this going to work out?
Before you could worry about that too much, your old friend Thor walked in.
Excusing yourself from the girls, you walked up to your blonde friend. “Hey, I didn't know you were coming!” you said excitedly. Thor rarely made an appearance at your game nights, but you loved it whenever he did.
Thor beamed at you, “Hello, Y/N. It’s so good to see you! Are you well?” he asked before pulling you into a bear hug.
You giggled as he let you go. “I’m good! What’s new with you?”
As Thor caught you up on his daily life, someone else was feeling unsettled at the sight of you standing so close and chatting so happily with him.
From across the way, Bucky asked Sam and Steve, “Who invited Thor?”
“Oh right, I ran into him a few days ago. I invited him but I didn’t think he’d take up the invite. He’s always a good time though.” Sam paused when he saw Bucky's irritated expression. “Why do you look upset?” he asked.
Steve let out a laugh, “Because Y/N’s looking awfully chummy with him,” he pointed his beer bottle in your direction.
Bucky glowered at you laughing at something Thor was saying; your head thrown back as you gripped his large bicep for balance. Thor looked at you with the brightest smile, laughing along to whatever joke you two were sharing. It made Bucky’s chest tighten, and he did not want to think about the reason for that.
“Oh,” Sam said. He thought your behavior coupled with Bucky’s concern was suspicious, considering you both were apparently together now. “Well, what are you worried about? That’s your girl now,” Sam said to goad Bucky. For the first time that night, Sam started to doubt the legitimacy of your short relationship, and he figured he could push Bucky into revealing something.
Bucky took a deep breath before realizing something himself — this was the perfect opportunity to maintain the ruse and get you to quit first. “That’s right, she is my girl,” he said impishly. “If you’ll excuse me gentleman,” he said before heading towards you.
You saw Bucky strutting towards you jovially, a bright smile on his face. Those kinds of smiles weren’t usually directed at you, so you knew something was up. Unsure of the reason, but hoping to divert his behavior, you spoke up. “Hey, Buck! What’s up?” you asked behind an obviously saccharine smile.
“Nothing, just came over to see my girl,” he said as he reached out and wrapped his arms around your waist.
Your eyes widened as Bucky settled behind you, resting his chin on your shoulder as you both faced Thor.
“I didn’t know you and James were together,” Thor said with a sweet smile and a hint of confusion.
Bucky lifted his head. “We sure are Thor, this little jellybean is the best thing to ever happen to me,” he said with feigned enthusiasm.
“Well that’s wonderful, how long have you been together?”
“Three days, three amazing days,” Bucky said as he let out a chuckle.
Thor furrowed his brow, “Well congratulations, to the both of you,” he said before kindly excusing himself to get another drink.
Once he was gone you turned around to look at the annoyingly affectionate man behind you.
“What the hell was that?” you challenged.
“What was what, doll?” Bucky asked with a cheshire grin.
Your jaw dropped, narrowing your eyes, you grabbed his hand and tugged him outside to the backyard. “So we’re adding sabotage to the mix now, huh?”
“Sabotage, what do you mean? Like your chances with Thor? Well I just thought he ought to know your relationship status. Plus, Sam and Steve were starting to get concerned, what with you flirting so openly with another man when you’re supposed to be with me.”
“So what if he was flirting with me? We’ve told them that I’m with you.”
Bucky eyes widened, taken aback. “You knew?”
“Thor’s a flirt, who cares?”
“I do, you’re my girlfriend.”
You shook your head, “You know you’re starting to sound like a jealous boyfriend.”
“Then I’m playing the part right,” he shrugged.
You scoffed at his indifference, “Is that what it’d be like? Dating you?”
“Why, are you asking because you’re considering it?” he asked with a smirk.
“No, Bucky. I just want to properly warn the next girl that stupidly falls for those pretty blue eyes.”
“Did you just say that you like my eyes?” he asked gleefully.
“Ugh,” you scoffed before kindly shoving him out of the way and heading back inside.
He smiled to himself, satisfied that he got the better of that exchange.
Watching through the glass door, he saw you walk into the kitchen and pour yourself a drink. You looked frustrated with him, and normally that would make him quite happy, but today Bucky felt a touch of guilt in his smug satisfaction. He didn’t want you to actually be upset with him. Lately, when it came to you though, the more time he spent in your presence, the more confused he became.
The only thing he knew was certain from that interaction was that you were right. He didn’t like seeing you with Thor, and come to think of it, he didn’t like seeing you with that guy at the store either. It made him feel that tightness in his chest that was now becoming common when it came to you.
After you threw back your drink and headed to the restroom to freshen up, you finally had a moment to yourself. As you thought about the events of your typical game night, you started to think about Bucky’s present ridiculousness. By now you’d be at each other’s throats for some type of game disagreement, not because of something like this.
It was true, you enjoyed Thor’s company, and his flirty nature was fun for you too. However, you didn’t think you’d like the way it felt to be wrapped up in Bucky’s arms more — but you really did. The way it felt to be held against that wall of hard muscle, the heat permeating off his body, it just felt so good.
This was supposed to be fake, and perhaps there was more beneath the surface, but you knew you shouldn’t think about that. It was too great a risk to take, especially with the bet still in place. You couldn’t give that smug bastard the satisfaction of a win.
After returning to the living room, you observed the girls finishing up a game of Uno.
“Hey, charades is starting up in five. You and Bucky are on different teams. Since you both are friendly with one another, I’m sure it shouldn’t be a problem!” Nat said excitedly.
Oh thank goodness. Finally, competitive Bucky can come out and ruin the day.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
Bucky was excited to play against you, because he knew you were just as competitive as him. He too was ready to finish this bet. Every time you both stepped up to grab the slip of paper with the phrases on it, you could feel the tension. And he brought his A-game, beating you out on the hardest phrases. Somehow he was able to act out building a sandcastle with ease, and he made sure to give you a cocky wink after getting that done. When you were both up again, you were able to convey shoveling snow faster than him, and you loved seeing how frustrated that made him.
Bucky had Steve on his team, which was an unfair advantage because it oftentimes felt like they shared the same brain. But you were grateful to have Wanda on your team because it almost felt like she could read your mind, which definitely helped rack up some points.
As the game neared its end, both teams found themselves in a tie. It was down to you and Bucky to break it. After you both read “waterfall” you got to pantomiming the best that you possibly could.
Ultimately, you were able to break up the word and make it recognizable for Sam, thus sealing your victory. You made sure to stick out your tongue at Bucky as you basked in your win. He only shook his head before heading out the back door. There’s the hot head that I know.
You decided you’d follow him after a minute to see if you could push his buttons, and maybe win your bet too. But you didn’t expect to see him in such good spirits when you stepped onto the patio.
“Hey, doll,” he said with a soft smile. “Congratulations on the win, I really thought I had you there.”
“Here I was coming to gloat, and you’re being… nice. What gives?”
Bucky shrugged, exhaling a heavy breath. “You know I don’t hate you, right?”
“You told me off the day we met, Bucky. You don’t like me.”
“I was drunk, which isn’t an excuse, but I only told you that you were a know-it-all. Did you ever ask yourself why I might've said that?
You furrowed your brows. “No?” you asked quietly.
He took a deep breath. “I was being stupid and childish. I was the best at trivia, and then you came into my friend group, knowing more than me about American history — that was my thing. And it wasn’t just that, your team won the entire trivia match because of you alone. So I said something dumb when I shouldn’t have, because I was intimidated,” he said sheepishly.
“Trivia, Bucky? Are you insane?” you asked in disbelief. That had to be the dumbest reason to start a bitter rivalry with a person.
“We just clashed, we didn’t get along. And I guess I never did anything to fix that.”
“You know, I studied up on those categories because I wanted to make a good impression on the new group of people Nat was introducing me to. I didn’t want to ruffle feathers, I only wanted to be accepted. But before the night ended you made sure I knew that I definitely was not.”
“I misjudged you, and I annoyed you when I should’ve seen you for the exceptional person you are. I should’ve been kinder, and I’m sorry.”
You eyed him suspiciously. “I don’t get it. Why are you saying this now?”
“Because something’s changed, and I needed you to know that I —.”
“Hey lovebirds! Sharon convinced Nat to fire up the karaoke machine. You in or you in?” Sam asked excitedly, oblivious to the moment you were sharing.
“Um,” you looked at Bucky.
“We’re in,” he said. This was far too heavy a conversation for tonight, and he had already said what he wanted to.
He gave you a shy smile before following Sam inside.
You wished you could finish the conversation you were having. With the way Bucky was acting you felt like the bet would truly never end, and it scared you that you didn’t mind as much as you thought you would.
Now that you understood where he was coming from, as irrational as it was, it was hard to hate him. In his tipsy state he spouted out a statement borne of jealousy, which felt a little less harmful than what you had been thinking all this time. Still, you figured you could think about it all later.
It was karaoke time now.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
After watching Steve belt out “Brown Eyed Girl'' by Van Morrison, then seeing Sam follow it up with “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey, you started to feel a bit overwhelmed. Nat asked if you were feeling alright, and you weren’t sure how to answer that. You couldn’t fully pinpoint what was going on with you.
Opting to avoid revealing anything that would lead you to lose the bet, you told her that you weren’t feeling well and that you were going to call it a night. Fortunately, Thor was heading out early too, so you left with him while Bucky dueted with Sam.
Immediate relief washed over you once you were back home. Finally, you were alone and able to process your thoughts on your own.
Things were getting weird with Bucky. Your friends were all too accepting of you two getting together, and even you were starting to get too comfortable with it. As silly as it was, you thought back to how you felt in his arms, when he pulled you out of harm's way. The way he looked at you, like he was seeing you for the first time — it was all too hard to forget.
The man that you couldn’t stand a few days prior, now made you feel safe and somehow cared for? You pondered how that could be and gave yourself a headache thinking about it. Bucky went out of his way to apologize, when you were happy to dislike him for the rest of his days.
Even though his rationale for being mean in the beginning was ridiculous, you realized neither of you did anything to stop it from spiraling out. And not only that, but he went on to tell you something had changed, making you even more confused. Did he feel something for you, like how you might feel for him too?
Deciding to forget about the whole thing, you lit a couple cozy vanilla candles and set up a warm bath for yourself. After soaking and relaxing your mind, you came to a decision.
You were going to call off the bet.
It had become pointless. Bucky treated you differently, and you couldn’t see how this would end in him surrendering. He was seemingly unbothered by the situation, so you had to be the one to put an end to it. You could always hire a housekeeping service or something to clean his place for him, the terms were never that detailed anyways.
As you slipped into your favorite pajamas, you felt content with your decision. Your life was going to go back to normal and an added bonus was that Bucky would no longer be your enemy — things were looking up.
Just as you sat down with a cup of tea, your phone buzzed in your lap.
Bucky: Can I come over? Unless you’re with him.
Huh? Maybe he was drunk texting you from Sam’s place. You decided not to text him back until the morning since it was already late.
Bucky: I’m outside, if you’re awake.
What the hell? You got up and opened the door, surprised to see him waiting on the other side.
“He’s not here is he?” he grumbled.
“Who?”
“The one that would be more than happy to give you a ride.”
“Of course, Thor’s not here,” you stepped aside to let him in from the cold.
Bucky breathed a sigh of relief. “Good, that’s good,” he muttered as you shut the door.
“You really came all the way over here to make sure I wasn’t with Thor? Are you serious?” you asked in disbelief.
“No, well, you left without a word and I had to make sure you were okay, and tell you —."
You cut him off before he could continue. “Look, I don't want to do this —.”
“I’m calling it. I don’t want to do this bet anymore,” he blurted out at the same time.
“You’re… we’re both quitting?”
His eyes widened as he processed your question. “Looks that way.”
“Okay. So neither of us wins and gets a housekeeper… I guess that’s fair,” you said.
“I think so,” he nodded. “Okay well, I’ll let you go then,” he said before moving to leave.
Placing a hand on his chest, “Bucky, why couldn’t this wait until tomorrow?”
He exhaled a deep breath, looking down at your hand. He wanted to confess that he came because he saw red when Nat told him you left with Thor, and that his heart wouldn't know peace until he saw you. He needed you to know that you had consumed his thoughts the last few days and he needed to release the pressure of the bet because he was overwhelmed by his emotions.
Instead he asked, “Did you feel it too?”
“What do you mean?” you asked timidly.
Clasping his large hand over yours, he looked up into your eyes. “I think you know.”
“I don’t know what you mean,” you breathed out. Thinking back to all the instances in the last couple of days that made your heart race, of course you knew what he was referring to. But it wasn’t made to work, not with all the rough history between you two.
His azure eyes bore into yours, as words were not necessary to express what laid under the surface. “Alright then,” he nodded before giving you a tight smile and dropping your hand to leave again.
“That’s it? You’re not going to elaborate or anything?” you breathed out, before you could bite your tongue.
Before you knew it, he was invading your space, slowly pushing you up against the door behind you with his hands on your waist. “I asked you a question, and you don’t want to answer honestly.” His lips were a mere inches from yours as he gazed into your eyes.
“It was a vague question,” you whispered, your eyes falling to his soft pink lips.
Bucky grabbed the back of your neck and pulled your lips to his — intentional and packed with everything he was too afraid to say. You reciprocated immediately; your confusion and doubt finally made sense. What you wanted, no, needed, was him.
You gave into him completely, letting him take control of the filthy kiss. It was all tongue, teeth, and wanton desire. His rough hand dug into your hips as he pulled you towards him, melding you to his firm body. Your hands found their way into his hair, and you tugged his brown locks, earning a deep groan from his throat.
Bucky didn’t want to let go of the feel of your lips on his, so he dragged out the moment until you were both too breathless to carry on. As he pulled away and released the hold he had on you, you reluctantly untangled your fingers from his hair and peered up at him; his eyes dark with kiss-swollen lips.
“You knew what I meant,” he whispered, his thumb brushing against your bottom lip.
You nodded your head.
Bucky smiled softly, one of his hands coming up to cradle your face. He couldn’t help it — his feelings were reciprocated and you were too gorgeous so he pulled you back for a wild, warm kiss.
“You’re mine now, understand?” he muttered against your lips.
You narrowed your eyes at him. “We’ll discuss that later,” you said defiantly, a smirk playing on your lips.
A lazy grin tugged at his lips, “You are the most frustrating woman in the world.”
You rolled your eyes, “And you are the most infuriating man I have ever known.”
“Yet for some reason, you like me, doll,” he goaded.
“Shut up,” you muttered.
His eyes widened, a twinkle of mischief glistening in his gaze, “Make me.”
He was about to tease you some more, but then you sucked his bottom lip between yours and he decided it wasn’t worth it; he’d gladly lose every little disagreement if you kept kissing him like that.
Bucky’s hand snaked its way to the back of your head as he savored the kiss, his tongue gliding along yours.
Reaching up, you tugged at his hair to tilt his head for an even deeper kiss, pouring everything you felt into the searing kiss.
Bucky’s hips grinded with yours, hands moving down to squeeze your ass as he kissed you fervently. You couldn’t help but moan at the delicious friction. His brain short-circuited, the sound sobering and disillusioning him at the same time.
“I’m… fuck, I’ll stop.” He pulled away to look into your eyes, his hands doing nothing to release you from his hold. “I’m sorry, I don’t want to take advantage —.”
“You’re not, we can slow down if you want though,” you said before kissing him softly.
He pulled away to smile at you. “I don’t want that. I want you.”
Oh.
You pushed his chest, successfully getting him to back up and away from you. He raised his eyebrows in surprise. You knew he was letting you shove him around, and that in reality he only moved because you directed him to.
“Come and get me then,” you said before making a break for your bedroom.
Bucky let out a laugh before chasing after you, and right as you were about to hop onto your bed, his arms wrapped around your stomach, jerking you back towards him. You squealed in surprise as he pressed your back up against his hard beefy body.
He moved you so that you were facing your tall mirror and the sight of him wrapped around you made your heart pound like a drum in your chest. Engulfed in his warm scent, captured in his strong arms, your head felt dizzy with desire.
“Now that I’ve caught you, what am I going to do with you?” he rasped, as his hand slid down your torso, toying with the hem of your shorts. You bucked against him, as his hand ghosted over your clothed core.
“Please, Bucky. Whatever you want.”
“Anything?” Bucky asked as he deftly untied your shorts, allowing them to fall in a pool at your feet.
“Mhm,” you mumbled as you watched his fingers dip beneath your panties, trailing his fingers through your soaked folds. “Bucky,” you whimpered, as his thumb pressed into your clit, his fingers prodding at your entrance.
“Yes, doll?” he asked, slipping two fingers into your tight hole, pumping slowly.
You were rendered speechless, trying to stifle your moans as you writhed against him.
“So gorgeous,” Bucky groaned, taking in your pleasured expression in the mirror. He curled his fingers and you keened as he gently caressed that spot that made you shudder.
Reaching down to his hand around your midsection, you guided it up to your body as you rucked up your shirt. Understanding your intention, Bucky pulled your top off before cupping your breast with his large warm palm, squeezing and kneading you roughly. You gasped, arching into him and he picked up the pace, strumming your clit with his thumb. You leaned your head back against his chest as he touched you, moaning as he eased in and out of you in a perfect rhythm. Incapable of controlling your hips, you grinded down on his hand erratically.
“Fuck,” Bucky breathed out, “Look at you.” You were falling apart before his eyes, and he couldn't look away.
You whined desperately, clutching his forearm as that familiar coil tightened in your belly, “Fuck, I’m —.”
“Go ahead, doll,” he groaned in your ear.
You whimpered as your walls fluttered around his fingers. Your vision going white as pleasure coursed through your body.
If it weren’t for Bucky’s arm wrapped around you, you were certain you’d collapse. As your breathing slowed and sight cleared, you got a good look at him in the mirror — you watched as he brought his soaked fingers from your pussy to his mouth, licking them clean.
Fuck.
Reaching behind you, you palmed his hard erection, earning a deep groan from his lips. Keeping his hold on you, he buried his face in your neck, sucking at your pulse point as he rutted against your hand.
“I need you so bad,” he muttered as he kissed along your jawline. “Are you ready for what comes next?”
You weren’t sure if he meant what you’d do in the bedroom or what would happen once you crossed the next line, but you nodded your head eagerly because it didn’t matter — you were ready for it all with him.
He kissed your temple before finally releasing the hold he had on your body. “Undress me.”
“Yes sir,” you whispered, turning around and eagerly unbuckling his belt, tugging off his pants and dragging down his boxers. Your mouth watered as you finally got a look at his impressive length. You should’ve known, the man was a giant, it only made sense that he’d be well-endowed too.
Bucky’s jaw went slack as he looked at you, wide-eyed and gazing at him with fire in your eyes. He pulled his shirt off himself because he could see your attention was elsewhere.
You marveled at the gorgeous unclad man, and you started to slowly pump his hard cock, unable to keep your hands off of him. You were about to fall to your knees when he lifted your chin to look into your eyes.
“I need something else more, doll.”
You looked at him quizzically, until he scooped you up and headed towards the bed. You giggled as his knees hit the edge of the bed and the two of you fell sideways onto your duvet. He let out a laugh as you sidled up next to him, hooking your leg over his own, as you peppered his neck with kisses. Bucky’s hand skimmed over your back, gliding his fingers along your spine until they settled around your waist. Your hand found his hard length, and you stroked him slowly, earning a deep groan from his chest.
“Fuck, baby,” he moaned.
He kissed you softly before pulling back to look in your eyes. His hand halted your movements, making you release him. You were about to protest but then he gripped the back of your knee, and rolled you onto your back, so that he was hovering over your wet heat. Bucky met your gaze, looking for any unease, only to find you nodding and biting your lip in anticipation.
He let out a chuckle at your expression before coating himself with your slick and lining himself up. Your fingers tangled in his hair as he slowly sunk into you, gasping at the feel of him stretching you out completely. Bucky leaned in and kissed you, his tongue swirling around yours as he gave you a moment to adjust.
You had never felt so full before, but you knew that you could get used to the feeling. Wrapping your legs around the small of his back tightly, you urged him to move. Bucky sucked your bottom lip before easing back and thrusting into you hard. He watched as your eyes squeezed shut and mouth fell agape, as he sank in and out of you.
He relished the way you clenched around him, your breathing coming out shallow as he took what he wanted. His lips found your neck when he felt your walls squeezing even tighter, “Such a good girl, and she’s all mine now, huh?” he mumbled against your skin.
“Mmm.”
“Use your words, doll,” he groaned as he suddenly slowed his movements. “Wanna hear you say it.”
Your eyes snapped open as the peak you were so close to hitting started to slowly fizzle away. Bucky had a self righteous smirk on his face, like he knew he had you. He wasn’t going to give you what you wanted until you answered his question.
“Bucky,” you whined in protest, trying to urge him to move faster with your hips.
He halted his movements as he gazed deeply into your eyes, “You’re not getting out of this one, doll,” he smiled before nipping at your bottom lip.
“Later,” you pleaded.
He swiftly pulled out of you, and manhandled you so that you were facing away from him while sitting in his lap.
Your eyes flickered to his gaze in the mirror. “Do what you want then,” he muttered as he placed a pillow behind his back.
You couldn’t help but think that Bucky was practically telling you to fuck yourself, but you didn’t care. You placed your hands on his thick thighs and tucked your legs up so that you were straddling him in reverse. The position had you spread open on your knees as you hovered over his lap.
Bucky grasped the sides of your hips so that balance would not be an issue, allowing you to comfortably rock against him. The sight in the mirror made you even wetter, if that was possible — his brawny body taking up your bed, with his hands holding you tightly as you moved against his thick, perfect cock.
You lined his length up with your entrance, and slowly sank down, releasing a shuddering breath as you went. The stretch ached in the most satisfying way, and you liked the control the position gave you.
Your lips parted with a breathy moan as you started to move, bouncing up and down. Finding the right rhythm was easy as Bucky supported you and let you grind against him until you found what felt good.
Bucky hissed beneath you, “Fuck, feel s’perfect.” He filled you up perfectly, like he was made for you.
“Look at yourself, doll.” He grabbed the back of your neck, coaxing you to look at yourself in the mirror. “Watch how well you take my cock.”
You cupped your breasts as you saw your reflection, and then you understood why he insisted on making you see. The way you moved against him, the way your bodies melded together, it was all so beautiful. As you continued to appreciate the sight, Bucky sat up, so you could lean back against him.
He kissed along your shoulders, up to your neck as you took what you needed from him. “Don’t you see it?”
And you finally realized, you did; you were perfect for one another, physically and literally. The thing that everyone saw, and you both were too afraid to admit, was that you were so damn similar. Both fiery, passionate, and a little crazy — you didn’t clash because you were different, you clashed because you were the same.
You wrapped your hands around his, as he sucked a hickey into your neck. “Yes,” you breathed.
“You belong with me.”
“I do,” you moaned as the coil tightened in your belly.
Before your brain could comprehend what was happening, he twisted you both onto your side and started thrusting into you from behind. “Good, now come with me,” he groaned. You arched your back, giving him better access as he pounded into you. His thumb found your swollen clit, rubbing rough deliberate circles, making you clench around him even more.
Your breath hitched in your throat as the sudden increase in pace and added pressure finally pushed you over the edge of bliss; your body tensing and mind blanking as your walls spasmed around him. “Fuck, fill me up please,” you cried out.
His thrusts grew erratic as he buried himself as deep as he could go, hips driving into you with more force until he was spilling himself inside your core with your name on his lips.
With one last squeeze on your hips, he carefully withdrew himself from you and rolled over on the bed next to you. You both laid there, panting as your breathing slowly regulated.
After taking a solid moment you lazily turned towards him and reached up to play with his hair.
Bucky turned towards you slowly, a lopsided grin on his face. His eyes were closed as he reveled in the way you touched him.
“That was…” you said, barely above a whisper. Hot as fuck, ridiculously good, indescribable.
“Yeah,” he nodded, knowing exactly what you meant. “I wasn’t too rough was I?” he asked gently, finally coaxing his eyes open to look at you adoringly.
You shook your head, “I liked it,” you murmured.
Bucky grinned, grabbing your hand in his hair and bringing it to his lips, “And to think all the times we were bickering, we could’ve been doing this.”
“Maybe we should take the weekend to make up for lost time,” you said teasingly.
Bucky rolled you over, and pinned your hands above your head before you could blink. His lips hovered over yours as he caged you in. “I’ll need more than a weekend for that, doll.”
You stretched up and pecked his lips before laying back and looking into his gorgeous blue eyes. “I think that can be arranged. After all, I am yours now, boo bear.”
He let out a laugh, “And don’t you forget it,” he beamed, leaning down to press his lips to yours.
Bucky would learn to deal with your silly nicknames, and your sass, and anything else you threw at him. Because now that you’d crossed the line, there was no going back — and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
You met Bucky Barnes for the first time when you were eleven years old. You started middle school in Brooklyn halfway through the year, and he immediately took a liking to you. He walked you to all the classes you had together, always let you cut him in line for food at lunch if you wanted, and he and his best friend Steve Rogers made sure no one bullied you since you were the new kid.
It was apparent to everyone that he had a crush on you, but back then you thought boys were gross, rightfully so, and you made sure he knew that. He respected that and offered you his friendship in response.
Both he and Steve were the greatest friends a gal could have. The pair helped you acclimate to your new home, and you knew it wouldn’t have been as smooth of a transition without them.
However, things changed when you got to high school — boys were no longer gross, and you started to see your dark-haired friend in a different light. His sweet chivalrous nature no longer annoyed you, instead it made you swoon. You felt crazy, but you finally let him in on your crush when you asked him to the Sadie Hawkins dance. He said yes, and admitted that he was hoping you would ask him.
It turns out your crush wasn’t one-sided, he secretly liked you for years. Steve claimed he knew that it was only a matter of time before you both finally got together.
You fell in love with him when you were 15, and you dated all throughout high school. He was the sweetest boyfriend and both of your families loved the two of you together. Everyone knew you two were it for each other, but your parents still warned you to be careful because they knew about the big plans you had for your future.
He proposed to you the summer before you left for college and everything in your heart wanted to say yes because you had never known a love like his. His adoration was all consuming, but you were afraid of what it could do to your goals. You knew you were going to California to attend your dream school, then law school after that.
You had plans, and a love like that was never a part of them. Letting go of Bucky was the hardest thing you ever had to do because it didn’t end due to anyone’s fault. No, you loved him with all that you were, but you had to let him go to become all that you wanted to be.
You went off to school on the other side of the country and tried to forget about the boy that held your heart. Over time, it became a little easier to forget all the memories you shared, but his hold on your heart, well that always remained.
You distracted yourself with other guys, but nobody ever felt right. You wondered if you romanticized the past, and that was why all other men paled in comparison to your first love. There had to be a logical explanation for why you had never found another love as sweet and pure, but you knew it was because you had never met anyone like Bucky.
After nearly eight years away you were offered a high paying job back in your hometown. Your old friend Steve was even a lawyer there. You didn’t tell anyone that you applied for the job and were extensively interviewed to get it, mainly because you didn’t want to explain your reasoning for wanting the position in the first place.
Coming back home felt like the right move for you. You had experienced so much, and you were ready to settle down near your family again, maybe near old friends too. After all, you always felt like a piece of you stayed behind in Brooklyn.
That was three months ago, and in that time you had made a name for yourself as a strong criminal defense attorney. You also knew now that you were back in Brooklyn you might eventually run into Bucky, and that thought made you anxious for a multitude of reasons. There was no denying you had hurt him, and that you were wrong for doing so.
However, you didn’t think the first time you’d see him after all these years would be in your law office’s conference room for your nine a.m. meeting. He sat there looking forlorn and defeated staring at the table. Perhaps he was tagging along with a potential client?
The sight of him washed memories of simpler times over you, but before you could reminisce, Steve called out your name.
“Hey Y/N you’re just in time, Bucky was arrested last night. They found cocaine in his auto shop. Sorry, I didn’t have the time to brief you, I had to bail him out early this morning, and it’s all been quite the nightmare.”
Your heart stopped. Bucky was arrested? There’s no way any of that could be true.
You turned around so Bucky couldn’t see you through the glass walls. “Wait, Steve, there has to be a mistake. He wouldn’t… there’s no way. And are you sure I should go in there? It seems like you have this um handled?” You rambled out because you were not ready to face him, especially not in these circumstances.
“I added this to your schedule because honestly Y/N, I need your help. You know him, you know he’s not capable of something like this, and you’re one of the best defenders we have. I could really use your help here because it’s not looking good for him.”
“What happened?”
“Someone credible tipped off the police last night that Bucky was involved with drug trafficking, and that his auto shop was his base of operations. When the police got there, Bucky was finishing up on a car and they showed him a warrant to search the premises. They brought drug sniffing dogs and everything. Somehow they found enough drugs locked in one of his cars to charge him with a felony, so they arrested him on site. It was weird, Buck said it seemed like they knew exactly where the drugs were located beforehand.”
You could not believe what you were hearing. This was a lot to get thrown into. “Steve, of course I want to help but he and I have history. We haven’t spoken in a long time, and I don’t know if it’s such a good idea that this be the first time we reconnect.”
“Don’t you think I know that? He’s my best friend. This is an all hands on deck kind of situation. Obviously, I can’t force you to help, but if you could help keep him out of jail, wouldn’t you want to?”
Steve knew how to make an argument — you couldn’t get out of this one. You nodded your head, “Yes, of course, you’re right. Lead the way.”
You followed him into the conference room to meet the one you left behind all those years ago. He didn’t notice the two of you walk in, too caught up in his own thoughts, and that gave you the opportunity to take a good look at him.
Bucky had grown up, or more specifically, he became a man. He sat there taking up the small chair with his broad shoulders and muscular body; somehow he grew up even more attractive than you had imagined. He also rocked a short scruffy beard, a stark contrast from the teenager who couldn’t grow a moustache. He changed tremendously yet still felt all too familiar and the sight of him so close to you made your heart race.
“Sorry to keep you waiting, pal. I had to get all the right information on the charges. I know you remember Y/N, she’ll be working on the case alongside me,” Steve said.
Bucky lit up when he heard your name, but when he saw you he didn’t know what the hell he should do. He didn’t think standing up and shaking your hand was the right move and he couldn’t fathom coming around and hugging you — not when he felt like crap and looked so rough after spending the night in jail.
You experienced a different apprehension and uncertainty because you didn’t know how he felt about you after all this time. Did he hate me or was he annoyed to see me on his case? Opting to avoid the issue altogether you wrapped your arms around your padfolio and walked towards the chair on the opposite side of the table. “Hi, Bucky,” you said as confidently as you could.
He tried to mirror your professional demeanor but he couldn’t help but crack a soft grin when you said his name, “Hi, Y/N.” God, I missed her.
You smiled at your first love and childhood friend. He returned the smile sincerely, a striking difference from the gloomy look he had before you walked into the room.
Steve interjected, unintentionally breaking the little trance you had fallen under with Bucky. “Okay man, I’m gonna give it to you straight. They seized enough drugs to put you away for at least a couple years. Our best move now is to come up with alternative grounds for why the drugs were there, like maybe someone planted them. They were found inside one of your personal vehicles inside your property, so that makes it more difficult, but can you think of anyone that would want to frame you?”
Bucky forgot Steve existed for a minute, barely listening to him speak. He was still caught up in the fact that you were there, looking so enchanting. She’s so lovely, she grew up so beautifully.
Steve cleared his throat to regain Bucky’s attention and heat immediately rushed to your cheeks as you shyly looked away from your ex’s intense gaze. Was he checking me out?
Quietly chuckling to himself, “You haven’t even asked if I did it, Stevie.”
Steve huffed out a breath, “I know I don’t have to.”
Bucky shook his head, his best friend’s loyalty was unyielding. “I have no idea why anyone would want to do this. I run a clean and simple business.”
“Do you have any enemies or maybe rival businesses that would want to hurt you?” you asked, hoping to get a better understanding.
His heart beat a little faster, hearing your honeyed voice again. Get it together, Bucky. She’s trying to help your case.
After a moment of contemplation, “Well I know John Walker, another mechanic, has a shop he opened up that hasn't been doing well. I’ve even heard that he took out a big loan with the mob, but I don’t know if that’s true. His business has been slow while I just opened up another garage because of demand,” he said while staring at the table. He couldn’t bring himself to look at you for too long, the last few hours had been exhausting, and adding you to the mix made him feel overwhelmed.
“Buck, that could very well be the motive for planting the drugs. If he knocked out the top competitor in the area then he’d be able to improve his business.” Steve said determinedly.
“Yeah B, that should give us a good start. Do you have cameras at your shop?” you asked, not noticing the nickname roll off your tongue.
Bucky blinked in surprise, he noticed. “Yeah, the police already took that but my system backs up the recordings online. I’ll give you guys the login.”
“Okay great, I doubt they’re looking through the camera recordings that intently since they already have all the evidence they need against you. That’s what Y/N and I will do today. Why don’t you take my car and head home, get some sleep,” Steve suggested.
“You’ve been up just as long as me, why don’t we both go.”
Before Steve could deny the idea, you chimed in. “That’s a great idea, Steve. Why don’t you go home and freshen up, maybe get a nap in. In the meantime I’ll look through the camera feed. I know we need to be quick about this, but you could use a little rest.”
Steve looked at you with furrowed brows and a disapproving frown, “It’s Bucky, Y/N. I need to be here for this, I didn’t ask you to come in to take over.”
“You look like a zombie, you’ll be better able to help after you get some sleep. Leave all your files and information, I’ll clear my schedule for the day so that I can work on just this. I’ll also make a couple calls to see where the prosecution is in the process.”
Bucky was astonished by your willingness to help. “You don’t have to do that, Y/N.”
“I know you didn’t do this, Buck. You guys head out, I’ll call Steve if I make any developments.”
Steve sighed deeply, he knew you were right and he trusted you to stay on top of things. “Fine, but I’ll be back this afternoon.”
“I figured as much.”
With that the two of them left, Bucky gave you an awkward head nod and a bashful smile on his way out.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
“Damnit Steve, a bit of a warning would have been nice,” Bucky groaned dramatically.
“At what point in this hectic situation would you have liked that warning? Also what good would it have done? You had enough on your plate, I didn’t need you to be anxious over seeing Y/N.”
“Better to blindside me with the one that got away then,” he scoffed as he got in Steve’s car.
“Are you kidding me? It’s been years, pal. You’ve dated plenty, and aren’t you seeing someone now?” Steve asked in disbelief as he pulled on his seatbelt.
“Dating and loving are different, and no I’m not seeing anyone. Probably for the best, ’m not sure who’d be lining up to be with a criminal anyway,” he muttered.
“You haven’t committed a crime, and you haven’t been found guilty — you’re not a criminal.”
“For now,” he whispered as he looked out the window.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
You logged onto Bucky’s security system account and tried to watch the tapes of the night of the search. Weirdly, the camera glitched during the afternoon, and there were no recordings during the drug bust. Taking note of that for later, you went back to the videos taken two weeks prior. You knew it was likely that any person that might have done this would have scoped out the shop beforehand.
It seemed like everyone that came in and out of the area that the drugs were found in were Bucky’s employees. Their clothes had Barnes Auto written on it with the shop’s old school insignia. The only person that came in the area without the proper attire was a pretty dark-haired woman.
Two weeks ago you saw her come in and out of Bucky’s office a great deal. On top of that, she constantly, almost purposefully, crossed the area where his car was located. The recordings also showed her walking out of the garage awfully close to Bucky, and you would be lying if you said the sight didn’t sting a little.
You knew you had no claim over the man, not in the slightest, but that didn’t take the dull ache in your heart away. Especially not after seeing him for the first time in so long, looking as handsome as he did.
Opting to forget about that and focus on your task, you soon realized that the woman did not return once in the last week. She was the only one that seemed out of the ordinary in the specified area. Maybe she had something to do with this?
You wondered if your suspicions had anything to do with the tinge of jealousy you felt when you saw them together. However, you had a hunch, and you knew those were rarely wrong. You texted Steve to ask Bucky about the woman — the timing of it all was questionable and worth looking into.
Next you started to ponder how the police were tipped off. You couldn’t figure out what reliable source would implicate Bucky and know exactly where the drugs were located. It would take a legitimate cause for a judge to issue a search warrant; unless it wasn’t a valid warrant in the first place.
Before you could get into it too deeply, Steve returned looking clean and a little bit better. You didn’t realize it, but it was afternoon and you had been working for hours. He brought you a late lunch, and sat down so that you could fill him in on your findings.
“So you think Olivia had something to do with this? Buck said she left him a week ago. He didn’t get into the details too much, but apparently it wasn’t a good match.”
“Don’t you think that’s weird, the um her leaving in the last week of all times and the missing tapes? Not them being a bad match.” you asked as casually as you could, hiding any feelings you might have about Bucky’s dating situation.
Steve noticed your sly attempt and decided to mess with you a little. “No, he’s had a big turnover rate lately. She was probably another one of many vying for the spot to be next to him, but you saw the other videos and you think it’s odd. I trust your judgement, so what’s our move?”
You couldn’t help but feel jealous over hearing about Bucky’s plentiful dating life, but you knew that was ridiculous. You broke it off long ago, you had to let it go.
You shrugged it all off, “I think we should find Olivia and question her.” The thought of meeting Bucky’s former paramour felt less than great, but you knew it was necessary. “This is discovery time, let’s talk to some people. Personally, I want to hit up Walker’s place too.”
“Let’s give Buck a break on finding her, I know the way to his auto shop. Let’s head there first.”
You stood up with purpose, but then got a look at the wall clock. “Ah crap, look at the time. I know they close early today, so why don’t we go first thing in the morning? We can meet here then drive together,” you suggested.
Steve reluctantly nodded his head in agreement. “I hate not being able to do anything. But okay, yes that works.”
“At least we have a place to start. Do you want to look into the police reports some more and start compiling a case with me?
“I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep until we do.”
┈┈┈┈┈・・
The more you read the evidence you had, the more it seemed like Bucky really did it.
Steve got upset after a while so he stepped out to take a walk and clear his head to come up with a new strategy.
It was frustrating, Officer Hoskins, who wrote one of the reports, claimed that Bucky was belligerent, aggressive, and evasive when they arrived at the shop. Nearly everything in the report was stacked against Bucky, and it vilified him in a way you couldn’t believe.
Before you could stand up to clear your head as well you saw Bucky saunter into the conference room wearing a blue henley with dark jeans, holding a bag of food from your favorite burger joint.
“Hey, I thought you guys could use a little break. I had a feeling you’d still be at it,” he let out a nervous chuckle. He stood at the opposite end of the long table awkwardly, unsure of whether he should come closer to you or not.
You had been working for nearly 12 hours, and your mental state was waning. You didn’t feel as confident about his innocence anymore, so you blurted out the question that had been gnawing at you. “Why did you store the drugs in your own car, and what were you planning to do with them?”
Bucky’s eyes widened and his breath hitched in his throat. He took a second to reply, “Wow, Y/N I thought you knew I didn’t do this, you’ve known me for so long. Why the hell would I do this?” he asked, trying to keep his cool but unable to hide the irritation in his voice.
“No Bucky, I knew you; I haven’t known you in years. I have no idea who you’ve become.”
He scoffed, “You seriously think I’ve changed? That I am capable of what — drug trafficking?”
“It doesn’t matter what I think, it’s my job to defend you regardless of your alleged guilt.”
“So that’s how it’s going to be, huh?” he asked rhetorically. “I’m not speaking to the Y/N that I fell in love with all those years ago, any more am I?” He paused, “I now see what you meant, you’re so concerned with how much I’ve changed but you don’t realize you’ve become nearly unrecognizable. The Y/N I knew would know I’m incapable of something like this. I’ve never committed a crime in my life. I even joined the military before taking over my dad’s business.”
Instant regret overcame you as his words seeped in. Of course you had changed a great deal in the last few years, but you had hoped that you were still the same person at your core. In that moment you realized you were wrong; he had only become a better version of himself. There was no way he did it.
Stuttering a breath, “Buck, I’m sorry… I will do everything I can to help you out of this, I just —,”
He cut you off before you could continue, “You know, a lot of what I did was partially done in the hope of becoming worthy of you.
Your heartbeat increased, did he still care for you? “I don't know what to say, I don't know what you want now.”
“Yes you do — it’s the same thing I’ve always wanted.”
He still cared. “Come on, you just said it yourself. I’m not that person anymore, maybe you are but I’m definitely not.”
“Maybe you’re right.”
Your face fell at that, but it was true. Before you could respond he muttered, “then why can’t I let you go?”
Taken aback, you stared at him in disbelief as your heart rate refused to slow down. “You did let me go, you didn’t ask me to stay,” you murmured with a soft, shaky voice.
He walked around the table so that he could stand right in front of you. “How could I? And run the risk that you’d actually listen? Becoming a criminal defense attorney was your dream since middle school, Y/N. Plus, it’s not like you asked me to follow you either.”
“I thought we were young and stupid. I couldn’t ask you to leave your dad’s shop especially when he was so sick at the time. It would’ve been selfish.”
“Well I wish you were selfish, at least then you’d be mine,” he said frankly.
“It wasn’t meant to be, we couldn’t ask so much of each other. Our lives were going in different directions.”
He paused to consider your words, they were the truth, but it still hurt. “So you thought about it, us working it out and getting married?” he asked with downcast eyes.
You placed your hand on his forearm, “I thought about all of it, how could I not? I loved you too, but it was bad timing. Even if I said yes the odds of us working out weren’t great, we were just kids.”
He gently wrapped his rough calloused hand over yours. “You know that’s not true, I would’ve done anything to make it work. You say it like it was a rash decision, as if I barely knew you and I acted impulsively.”
You exhaled deeply, “Bucky, it doesn’t matter anymore. We can’t do this. We made our choices, now I’m your attorney and this definitely cannot happen.”
“You didn’t give me a choice at all. You left without giving me a fighting chance.”
“Because I knew that if I let you try to convince me, there was no way I could leave without you,” you murmured. You looked down, thinking about loosening your hand from his grip, but then realizing somehow you had your fingers intertwined with his.
Bucky tilted your chin up with his free hand so that he could look into your brilliant eyes. “You are the love of my life, Y/N. There was never another like you. You took my heart and soul away from me the day you left — but maybe there’s still a chance for us.”
“I’m sorry, I wish things could have been different, but we can’t,” you said, reluctantly stepping back and fully pulling away from his warmth. “Maybe everything happened for a reason. I got my dream job, you turned your dad’s shop into a successful business. None of those things would’ve happened if we stayed together.”
“I guess you’re right, it’s just hard to remember that when you’re here now. All I can think about is the time we lost, and what we could’ve been.”
Before you could continue your conversation, Steve walked back in, unable to sense the tension in the room.
“Did you bring burgers? Thanks buddy.” He patted Bucky on the back and grabbed the bag before sitting down.
“Listen I’m gonna go, I don’t think there’s much else we can do tonight. You guys do whatever you want. I’ll see you in the morning, Steve. Bye Buck.” You grabbed your belongings and rushed out the door.
“What was that about?” Steve asked as he took a bite of his burger.
“Oh she accused me of committing the crime, and I professed my love for her.”
Steve choked on his burger, “What?!” he croaked out.
“Uh yeah, I think I blew it. Maybe I should’ve eased into it a bit. Seeing her brought back so many feelings though. I’ve always known that if I was ever given the chance again, I wouldn’t let her go easily. She told me it’s not possible though, now that she’s my lawyer. What a stupid rule,” Bucky huffed out.
Steve chuckled at his friend's annoyance, “I think there’s a rule that if you had relations prior to the client-lawyer relationship it may be kosher, but it might’ve changed. It’s probably best to wait it out.”
“I’d wait my whole life for her, what’s a little while longer.”
“I thought you were over her.”
“I never said that. I just stopped talking about her after a while because it made it easier.”
Steve nodded, “Well, she put in a lot of work for you today. She saw you with Olivia, and it kinda seemed like she might’ve been a little jealous. Perhaps there’s hope for you yet.”
Bucky lit up at the thought of that, he couldn’t help but smile to himself. “Well let’s keep me out of jail first, maybe then I can work with that.”
┈┈┈┈┈・・
Steve pulled in front of the auto shop, and parked his car. “So first thing when we get in there, we ask for Walker.”
You nodded your head, “Yeah, we can ask if he knows anything about what happened with Bucky. He’s technically not involved, but we’re allowed to talk to people who might have information about the situation.”
“Perfect, lead the way.”
As he opened the door to let you in, you walked up to the receptionist’s desk. There sat a dark-haired woman with meek eyes. She didn’t bother looking up to greet you, and at that moment you noticed that her name tag said “Olivia”. It took you a second, but you realized she was the same woman from the security tapes. She was dressed differently than she was when you saw her with Bucky, opting for a more modest and darker clothing style.
You nudged Steve, and he looked at you then got a good look at Olivia. He immediately registered her as the woman from Bucky’s shop.
Before you could speak to her, John Walker turned the corner and stepped into the reception area. He looked at you, then Steve, and realized who you both were. The black suits you both were wearing also made it easier to deduce your occupations.
“I want a lawyer,” Walker stated determinedly as he crossed his arms and attempted to look menacing.
You let out a laugh. “Um, okay here we are.”
“Olivia, don’t say a word, you have the right to remain silent.”
You looked at Steve, and he looked down at you. The two of you couldn’t help but laugh at the situation. John wasn’t under arrest, this wasn’t an interrogation, but he was acting like he had something to hide.
Before you could utter another word, Olivia broke the silence.
“He made me do it! John told me I had to get access to Bucky’s security system or else he would lose his whole business, he owes a lot of money to some sketchy people. It was duress, I didn’t do anything! I didn’t even know what was in the bag,” she blurted out.
“You put the bag in Bucky’s car?” Steve inquired.
“Well yeah, but John drove me there and made me.”
“Olivia shut up!” John shouted out. “None of that is true, none of it. You’ll be hearing from my attorney.”
“Lemar was in on it too, he’s an old buddy of Walker’s and he convinced him to falsify the report at the scene,” Olivia volunteered with abandon.
Shaking your head in disbelief, “Uh Steve, let’s get out of here. I think we have a couple phone calls to make.”
┈┈┈┈┈・・
Things moved swiftly after speaking with the prosecutor and the police. You and Steve were able to clear Bucky’s name from all charges.
Steve could not be happier, and he wanted to be the first to head over to Bucky’s to tell him the good news. However, before he could head out he stopped and thought about what a good opportunity this could be for his best friend.
“Y/N, I was going to go to Bucky’s, but do you maybe want to be the one to tell him in person? I just realized I uh have an important meeting I need to get to, like right now.”
“Um, sure… you could just call him though, right?”
“This feels like news you deliver in person, I think. Here, I’ll write down his address for you.” He scribbled the address on a piece of paper and handed it to you, not leaving any room for arguments.
You shrugged, “Okay, Steve.” Grabbing your briefcase you headed towards your car.
The thought of being alone with Bucky made you feel nervous, but then you remembered who he was. The guy who always carried your books and watched out for you. The guy who made sure you never felt alone, never felt unloved during your adolescence. Even now, he was the guy that was unafraid of baring his soul to you and telling you how he felt, making you feel his love that never left.
You also couldn’t believe he went into the military and took over the business thinking those things would add to his worthiness. He was worth everything and more to you, simply because he was himself. Kind, loyal, silly, and so soft with your heart, no one else could ever compete. You regretted not telling him that.
You blinked a couple times, until it finally clicked — you never stopped loving him.
Feeling a newfound excitement about being the one to tell Bucky the good news, you parked your car in front of his house and took a deep breath as rain started to drizzle on your windshield.
The next decision you made could very well change the trajectory of your life.
As you knocked and waited outside his door, you felt nothing but calm. You were ready to be with the one your heart always knew you were meant to be with.
Bucky opened the door and looked at you with raised eyebrows. He didn’t expect to see you at his place. “Y/N hey, did something happen? Please come in, Steve didn’t call me about anything?” He stepped aside to let you into his beautiful brownstone.
“Yeah, he got caught up. He wanted me to deliver the good news in person.” You walked in, taking off your slightly wet raincoat, smiling at him. He looked so good in his olive green sweater.
He beamed back at you as he took your jacket, directing you towards his couch as he hung it up. “Good news?”
You sat down and he sat next to you, a couch cushion apart. “Olivia and Walker set you up. Olivia did most of the dirty work under John’s guidance. I’m really sorry Bucky, but she confessed right when she saw Steve and I this morning. We called the right people, and another police officer went and questioned the pair officially. The prosecutor agreed to throw out the case, there are no charges against you now.”
Bucky breathed a giant sigh of relief, you could see the stress literally melt off of him.
Having you in his house was enough to make him happy, but hearing that there would be no case and that he was totally a free and clear man meant the whole world. “Thank you so so much for coming to tell me! I can’t believe it. The last two days have been so hectic, I was so afraid, but that worked out better than I could’ve imagined.” He reached out to grab your hand, grateful for no longer being in his predicament.
“Yeah, nothing to worry about anymore. Sorry about Olivia though, she was Walker’s receptionist, sucks that it couldn’t work out for you both,” you muttered, unintentionally squeezing his hand a little tightly.
“You sound really broken up about it… maybe a little jealous, but I know that’s crazy,” he teased.
You smiled sheepishly in response, “Nothing like that, B.”
An adorable smile graced his lips, “So I guess that means you’re not my lawyer anymore huh?” he asked, looking deep into your eyes.
“Correct, ‘m not your lawyer anymore,” you whispered, following his train of thought.
He tried to keep his cool, knowing now that there was nothing keeping you apart but yourselves.
“Well cool, do you want to stay for a bit, or do you need to get back to work?” Bucky wasn’t sure what he should do again. It wasn’t every day that he was cleared of a crime and the girl he always dreamed of spending his life with showed up at his door. He didn’t want to let you go.
“I could stay, I cleared my schedule for the week to work on the case, so there’s nothing pressing to get back to.”
“Great, do you want me to order up a pizza and crack open a bottle of wine? It’d be nice to catch up.”
“Yes, I’d love that.”
After swiftly starting up the fireplace across from the couch, Bucky ordered a pizza from one of your favorite old spots. The two of you settled in with the best red wine, ready to get to know each other again.
Unsurprisingly, the conversation flowed easily, there was so much to learn about each other. Neither of you were exactly the same anymore; a lot of life had happened in the last few years. The last time the two of you were together, you could hardly call yourselves adults. You reflected on how you thought you knew so much about the world at 18. He told you a bit about his time in the military, and how much that made him grow up. You told him about all your years in school, and all that you did afterwards.
You both spoke about the random things that you experienced that made up who you were now.
Together, you both addressed the need for separating when you were younger; it made you both become the best versions of yourself.
You liked the person he became. He was always the best guy, but he grew up to be such a determined, kind, and amazing man.
When he got up to grab another bottle of wine he took a moment to appreciate the sight of you in his home; he thought you looked like you belonged there. You had taken off your heels and had your legs tucked under you — the slit on your black pencil skirt riding higher due to your seating position. Did you know how sexy you looked?
Throughout the afternoon you got closer and closer, literally and physically. By the time the sun had set there was hardly any space between the two of you on the couch. Like magnets, you both felt a pull towards each other that nothing could repel. Somehow his arm made its way behind your couch cushion, and you leaned into him from time to time.
There was a delightful familiarity you felt when you were with him. Even if you were no longer the same people, being near him felt easy, effortless. He knew you in ways most people never would.
Bucky felt the same way, it was all so normal and comfortable. And now that he was near you again, he couldn’t stop trying to make you smile; it had been far too long that he had gone without seeing it. He loved seeing you happy, content, and smiling. It was the most beautiful sight in the world to him.
He missed this, being with someone you feel safe to be your truest self with — he missed you.
Bucky realized he was wrong when he told you that you had become unrecognizable, and he wanted to make that right.
“I’m sorry for what I said at your office. You’re still you. Obviously you’ve grown into someone even more amazing and wonderful, but the girl I loved is still in there,” he whispered.
You met his ocean blue eyes, “I’m sorry too, B. The stress of the situation got the better of me, I shouldn’t have accused you. I knew better.” He nodded his head, he understood.
Bucky let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. “I’m also sorry that I let it slip that I still have feelings for you,” he blushed under your gaze, the wine releasing his inhibitions ever so slightly.
“I’m not.”
Oh, you’re not.
“I appreciated the honesty, I like how I never have to guess where I stand with you.”
“Well I wish I could say the same about you,” he nudged your shoulder playfully and let out a laugh.
You narrowed your eyes and smirked at him, then you reached down to play with his fingers. “Why do you think I put your case at the forefront of everything, B,” you whispered. He intertwined his fingers with yours.
“Why do you think I let Steve pretend he had a meeting, so that I could come over and tell you the news myself?” you asked rhetorically, looking into his dark and dilated pupils. He was so close to you, his soft pink lips inviting you in. “Why do you think I came back to Brooklyn at all... ”
Bucky gasped in surprise, he couldn’t believe it. He reached out and cupped your cheek, you placed your hand over his and held his gaze. He looked deeply into your sparkling eyes, as if he wanted to memorize the look of adoration you held just for him. You saw nothing but pure love and desire reflecting back to you. “You were always worthy of my love, you’ve always had it,” you said.
Remagnetized and unable to fight the pull, your lips met his for a warm passionate kiss. He wrapped his arms around you, pulling you flush against his beefy body as his tongue begged for yours to part. Letting him in, you placed your hands behind his neck and deepened the kiss.
You and Bucky had shared at least a thousand kisses in the past, but none like this.
None full of this much desire, want, and need. Never a kiss filled with such emotion and love. His hands roamed over your body, touching, kneading, trying to remind himself this was real — that you came back for him.
Slowly pulling back, you smiled as he chased your lips. You reached down to bunch your skirt up so that you could properly straddle his thick thighs. Understanding your intention, he manhandled you on top of him with ease. Fuck, that was hot. He was so much stronger than he used to be, and the thought of what he could do to you with muscles like that made your body buzz with desire.
You hadn’t realized you were biting your lip as you ogled him until he gently smoothed your bottom lip free with his thumb. You kissed the pad of his thumb, and he smiled at how adorable you were. He placed his hands on your waist, and trailed one arm up the length of your spine until it finally rested on the back of your neck. He pulled you into him, taking charge and guiding your lips to his.
The touch of his tongue set your body on fire, making you tingle in places you hadn’t in a while. He squeezed your hip and pulled you down hard against his tightening jeans — you grinded steadily against his growing erection. Fuck, was he always that big?
You kissed along his scruffy jawline, down his throat, nipping and sucking as you went.
Bucky groaned, “Baby, baby wait. Are you drunk?” he asked as he halted your movement, unwilling to take advantage of the situation.
“No, it would take a lot more than that to get me drunk.” you answered honestly. “Are you?”
“Not at all, and I’m glad because I want to remember every moment of this.” He leaned in to kiss you again, wrapping his strong arms around your waist.
Threading your hands in his hair, you kissed him back, soft and tender. There was no rush, not after all the time you spent without him.
The kisses slowly grew hotter and heavier, your hands tugging at his hair as you grinded against him again. The friction against your lace-covered core became too much. You couldn’t take it any longer, you needed him, pulling away you whispered against his lips, “Can I ride you, Buck?”
He nodded his head eagerly and leaned back on his sectional, giving you the space to do what you wanted. You speedily unzipped your skirt and slid it off, taking off the rest of your clothes as quickly as possible. Bucky followed suit, removing his clothes, watching you with a big grin — you were always so eager for him. You scrunched your nose when you saw him taking you in, “See something you like?” you teased, hovering over his lap.
“Mhmm, very much,” he pulled you down on top of him so that you could feel all of him, right against your dripping wet heat. He kissed his way down your neck, stopping to suck and knead your breasts harshly with his tongue and large warm hands. You whimpered as you gripped his hair and held him in place. He lavished your chest with kisses, unafraid of leaving a mark.
Unable to feel the emptiness inside of you any longer, you pushed him, making him release you. Bucky laid back but kept his hands on your hips to steady you, watching as you lined yourself up with his length and sunk down slowly, releasing a shuddering gasp as he filled you up completely.
You took a moment to adjust to his size — he really was bigger than you remembered. He stretched you out in the most satisfying way, the delicious pressure from being so full of him turned you on even more. Eagerly, you leaned forward and placed your hands on his broad shoulders, using him as leverage as you started to bounce on his thick cock.
Bucky’s hips moved instinctively, as he tightly gripped your hips and thrust into you, unable to control himself because he needed you too.“You feel so fucking perfect.” Bucky watched with admiration as the love of his life took what she wanted from him. “Fuck, use me pretty girl, just like that,” and you did, circling your hips and taking what you needed. He couldn’t be happier as he watched you ride him like you were meant to. He rubbed small circles over your clit when he felt your warm walls squeeze around him.
The coil tightened as a sudden orgasm took you over, making your body tremble with your release.
Grabbing the back of your neck he pulled your lips to his, pouring every emotion he felt into the bruising kiss. He pulled away to look at you in awe, his gorgeous sweet girl coming down from her high.
As your heavy breathing slowed down you felt Bucky sit up with his hard cock still inside of you. Crap, he didn’t cum.
You giggled as you looked at him, disheveled and handsome. “Sorry, B… just give me another minute and I’ll—,”
He flashed you a soft grin, “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it.” Bucky hooked his hands behind your thighs and stood up as if you weighed nothing.
He walked you back towards the wall behind you, gently pressing you up against it. Placing a hand behind your head and keeping you pinned to the wall with his solid body, he kissed you fervently. Then he dropped his hand back under your thigh and snapped his hips into you with a hard thrust — with deep, steady strokes, he reclaimed your body as his. He knew you belonged together, and he never wanted to be without you again.
“Whose pussy is this, baby?” he groaned against the shell of your ear as he pounded into you.
“Yours Bucky, only yours,” you cried out, while he took you higher than you had ever been. Feeling weightless and under his control turning you on even more. He swallowed your gasps for air as he kissed you, murmuring sweet praises against your lips.
“That’s a good girl, taking me so well — missed this pussy so much. Missed you so much,” he managed to mutter out between his heavy breaths.
Bucky took you apart, striking every spot, giving you everything you needed with his rough unwavering thrusts. “Now cum for me, my love,” he rubbed your swollen clit and you could have sworn your soul left your body. “Buc-” you screamed, clutching his shoulders and squeezing your eyes shut as fireworks bursted behind your eyelids. Clenching down hard on his cock as wave after wave of pleasure rushed through your body.
A soft grunt escaped his lips as he felt your tight walls squeeze around him, and after a couple more hard thrusts Bucky finally emptied himself deep inside you — where he belonged.
The two of you wore matching satisfied smiles as you caught your breaths. After a moment, he carried you back to his room and sat you down on his bathroom counter. He didn’t want to let you go just yet, but he wanted to cuddle with you, and the two of you needed a shower after that little marathon. As the water warmed up, he stepped in between your parted legs and tilted your chin up so he could see your tired eyes.
“Think you can walk to the shower?” he asked teasingly.
“Mm no, B, you can carry me though.”
“Whatever my girl wants,” he pecked your lips and picked you up as you wrapped your arms around his neck and lazily kissed him. Standing under the large rainfall shower head, he held you in his arms, incapable of wiping the giant grin off his face.
The warm water washed the tiredness away a bit, and you asked him to finally put you down.
When you were younger, sex with Bucky was always rushed. Even though you were 18, it wasn’t something your parents approved of, so you rarely got the time to savor it whenever you found the time to get intimate.
Today though, Bucky cherished every moment. He took care of you without a concern for anything else in the world. The intimacy you shared was everything you wished for and so much more.
He gently washed your body, and you helped him wash his own too; you particularly enjoyed running your hands over his broad chest, defined abs, and well-built back.
“Buck, you know you’re like stupid hot right?” you asked him with faux annoyance in your voice.
He let out a laugh at your comment, cupping your cheek and dropping his head down for a sweet kiss. “You know you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid my eyes on, right?”
Heat rushed to your cheeks, he was so sweet on you. You didn’t say anything, just leaned up to kiss him some more.
When you finally got out of the shower, you both dried up nicely then slipped into bed together, clothes long forgotten.
He wrapped you up in his big strong arms, so happy to have you close to him. You traced your fingers over his chest as you considered what had just happened.
“So much time has passed, B. You sure we can go back?” you asked hesitantly. The last couple of days were eventful to say the least, and you were afraid you might be getting caught up in it.
“You’ve always had my heart, Y/N. I don’t want to go back, I want to move forward with you by my side.”
Oh boy, this is real.
This man truly loved you, he never stopped loving you.
“Bucky, you weren’t always this sappy,” you said teasingly, squeezing his large bicep.
“It took years of missing you, thinking about what I lost to make me appreciate this all the more.” He kissed your forehead gently. After a beat, “Is it weird that I’m grateful for Walker? He’s the reason you came back in my life.”
You giggled at that and sat up to look at him. “It's a little weird, but I know it wouldn’t have been long until we found our way back to each other. Somehow, I knew it was a matter of time.”
A lazy smile tugged at his lips. “Yeah, I know you’re right. Steve told me when you took the job, I knew you were back. I was just working up the courage to reach out to you again.”
Your eyes widened at his confession, you didn’t know that.
“Oh also, I was never dating Olivia. I had hired her to work for us, I didn’t know where she was actually working. She quit suddenly, but I might've let you think we were a thing because jealousy looks real cute on you,” he smiled sheepishly.
“You jerk!” you playfully swatted his shoulder. “I was jealous though, you were right,” you let out a laugh.
“I know baby, I liked it.”
“Oh, Bucky, what am I going to do with you?” you beamed at the sweet giant man.
“Keep me?” he paused, “I’d like that more than anything.”
You nodded your head at your big softy. “Okay, handsome, you’re all mine now. I’m not letting you get away.”
He smiled brightly at that, tightening his hold on you. “And you’re mine. My girl, my baby, my sweetheart,” he tangled his legs with yours, caging you in while being careful not to crush you with his weight.
“Yes, I am,” you stated confidently.
You could’ve sworn you saw Bucky’s eyes water a little as he leaned in to kiss you. But that was all forgotten as you lost yourself in him again. As his lips slowly descended down your body you briefly thought about how there was probably a lot more to talk about. Nevertheless, you knew that could wait.
All that mattered now was that you were his and he was yours.
Clutching your phone to your ear, you paced through your kitchen, venting out the drama from your evening. “He told me that he didn’t think it was going to work out in the long run, and then he had the audacity to say that this breakup would hurt me more than him. What kind of asshole says something like that?!” you grumbled to your best friend Wanda.
Just as you were about to continue, your roommate Bucky unlocked the door and came into the kitchen. He moved in three months ago after your prior roommate moved out to live with her boyfriend.
Bucky nodded cordially, cognizant that you were on the phone.
You continued because you needed to let it out. “I’m not great... I saw a real future with this guy, and yeah maybe I romanticized things but I thought that this was it. Or maybe I wanted this to be it — so that I wouldn’t have to bother with the whole dating thing anymore.”
“Dating can be a real mess, that desire is understandable. Gosh, I’m so sorry, babe. You didn’t deserve that,” she said kindly.
“Thanks, Wan. I’m just going to take a shower and deal with my feelings,” you mumbled.
“Okay, well call me if you want company or need anything.”
“Will do, talk soon,” you assented before putting your phone down and exhaling a heavy breath.
Bucky pulled out some leftovers from the fridge before speaking up, “Do you want me to pretend like I didn’t hear anything?”
You sighed deeply, “No need. Quentin and I broke up.”
“I’m really sorry, even if I thought he was kind of a prick,” he said with a sheepish grin, trying to make you smile.
You rolled your eyes at him, a small smile gracing your lips. “Yeah, he knew that too. And it turns out you were right.” Taking a deep breath, you shook your head as you looked down at the countertop. “I just finally thought I had a stable thing with a decent guy. It wasn’t some beautiful romantic thing with him, but I had hope. And now I feel like an idiot for ever thinking it could be real.”
“You’re not an idiot.”
You shrugged as you glanced up at him. “Then I’m naive for thinking someone could like me for longer than a couple months.”
Bucky shook his head, his eyes softening, and his expression warm. “There’s nothing wrong with having hope, sweetheart. It was brave to put yourself out there and try to work things out.”
You smiled weakly, “Thanks, Buck.”
“And for the record, any guy would be lucky to love you for a lifetime. You’re the complete package — please don’t let him make you think otherwise,” he reassured you.
“I —” you couldn’t find the words. Hearing that simple reassurance when your mind told you otherwise meant a great deal. And in that moment, it was exactly what you needed to hear.
You silently stepped towards him, wrapping your arms around his neck. He wrapped his big strong arms around you instantly, engulfing you and allowing you to feel the warmth radiating off of his body. You relished it, enjoying the sense of security and peace you felt in his arms. Even if his touch was new, even if you hadn’t known him all that long, you couldn’t deny that it had been far too long since you’d felt so comfortable and safe.
You felt him press his lips against the top of your head, and your heart melted. The influx of emotions from the evening finally took its toll on you as your eyes watered, causing you to subconsciously pull back to wipe it before he noticed.
“Will you be alright, can I make you anything to eat?” he whispered, wordlessly wiping away your stray tear as it fell.
“That’s okay, maybe I’ll make something later. I’m gonna grab a quick shower and wallow now,” you murmured, slightly embarrassed by your display of emotions. Bucky was kind enough not to mention any of it though.
“I can keep you company if you’d like? For the wallowing part,” he said with a soft smile.
“Bucky, I’m not going to pull you into my sadness.”
“You’re not pulling, I’m willingly coming in,” he said reassuringly with a boyish grin.
You couldn’t help but smile, he was too kind. But you needed to process the events of the day in private, at least for a little while. “I think I need to be alone tonight. I’m gonna watch Legally Blonde and drink some hot cocoa. You don’t have to worry.”
“Well you know where to find me.”
┈┈┈┈┈・・
While you slipped away to shower and get ready for your solo movie night, Bucky got to work. He swiftly preheated the oven so that he could have a pizza ready by the time you got out, then he got to making your favorite hot chocolate and airpopping some popcorn just the way you liked. By the time you were back he had created a sweet little spread for you and had the film queued up and ready to go.
Being the good friend that he was, he also respected your wishes and was nowhere in sight upon your return.
“Ah Bucky, you didn’t have to do this for me,” you mumbled to yourself. Ever since he came into your life you felt his thoughtfulness and care in everything he did. You were grateful that your path crossed with his.
Deciding to thank him later, you grabbed some food and your favorite blanket before getting comfortable on the couch. Reaching out for your mug of hot cocoa and the remote, you were ready to unwind from the day's turmoil.
As the song “Perfect Day,” started playing to introduce the film, you began to feel a little better. And Bucky’s delicious cocoa certainly filled your chest with a warmth you didn’t know you needed, but definitely appreciated.
You adored Legally Blonde because it showed you how wonderful life could be when one forges their own path and cuts out a thoughtless partner. Elle’s worth did not diminish simply because Warner lacked the ability to see it. She rose above those that didn’t believe in her, and she did so while staying true to who she was at her core. In the end, she saved her client based on her own merits and extensive knowledge of hair care. When Warner finally came to his senses and saw that she was always amazing, she was able to see that he was not worth a second thought.
After you finished the movie you were filled with positivity, and this made you realize that it truly was Quentin’s loss. You didn’t want someone who lacked the capacity to see your worth. You were kind-hearted, wonderful, and deserving of someone who appreciated you just the way you were. And you thought back to Elle, and how in her path to becoming the best version of herself she met Emmett, a guy who valued her and respected her from the moment they met.
Maybe the right guy would show up when you least expected it. Now that the space for someone better opened up, perhaps the universe would deliver just that. Knowing that a world of amazing possibilities existed filled you with hope and made you feel so much better. Regardless of what came next, you knew you would be alright.
As you started to clean up and move your dishes to the sink, your roommate reemerged.
He looked at you softly, unsure of how you were feeling. “Hey, I just came out for some water. You can leave the dishes in the sink and I’ll do them in a bit.”
“That’s okay, and you can stay out here now, my movie and my wallowing are done.”
“Oh okay,” he said, still a little hesitant.
As you started to scrub your dishes, you remembered you had to thank him. “Thank you for the little set up by the way. You made me my favorite things, and I really appreciate it,” you smiled.
He chuckled quietly, coming up next to you with a dish towel, “If you’re gonna wallow you might as well do it with comfort food.”
You handed him the wet plate with a grin. “Can’t argue with that,” you said as you looked into his eyes. “You even used my favorite giant mug — it’s like you know me too well,” you said, before looking back down and scrubbing the sizable cup.
“Only a little well,” he said sweetly. “And um, how are you feeling?”
“Honestly, much better. The movie did wonders for me,” you said confidently.
“Really? Because I’d be willing to run out for your favorite ice cream if you wanted me to.”
You let out a laugh, “What did I do to deserve you?”
Bucky chuckled, “You don’t have to do anything to deserve a little kindness.” He took the final dish from your hand and nudged you, “You’re one of the greatest people I know. You don’t deserve to be mistreated.”
He met your gaze after he put down the cup. You couldn’t understand how a guy as sweet and warm as Bucky could exist. “You make me believe that good guys exist out there,” you whispered.
Casually leaning back against the counter, he crossed his large muscular arms as he stood next to you. “Well you are worthy of the best of them.”
As you looked up into his cerulean eyes, you thought about how grateful you were to have him in your life. “Can I take you out for breakfast tomorrow?” you asked abruptly. You weren’t sure why the words slipped out of your mouth, you only knew that you wanted more time with him.
Bucky furrowed his brow with a hint of a smile playing on his lips. “You want to take me out… on a date?”
Did you? “No, I mean yeah… a friend date,” you stuttered, heat rising to your cheeks.
For a split second, you thought you saw disappointment flash across his face. “Sure, that sounds great.”
Your heartbeat increased, “Did you want it to be a real date?” you asked shyly. You needed to know, and you knew that if you didn’t ask, the thought would gnaw at you.
Bucky nervously rubbed the back of his neck as he blushed under your gaze. “I didn’t mean to be presumptuous, but I am aware that this is the first time that we’ve both been single since we’ve met.”
You blinked in surprise. “Hmm, so it is,” you murmured.
His vivid blue eyes looked deeply into yours. “So it is,” he repeated.
You bit your lip as you started to see your roommate a little differently. Were his eyes always that blue? “Right so we do the friend date, and then um, we’ll just go from there.”
He nodded, eyes twinkling with amusement. “Okay, that sounds good to me,” he said with a broad smile.
Your lips quirked up in a half smile because you could not fathom what was happening. “Well, I should head to bed,”
His eyes widened slightly. “Right, me too,” he said abruptly, finally conscious of the close proximity between you two.
“Goodnight, I’ll see you in the morning,” you said, unable to comprehend your feelings and ready for a moment to process.
“Sweet dreams, darling,” he said, gleefully bemused by the situation.
And while he wished you the best of dreams, it was him that night that dreamt of you. After holding you in his arms, and feeling the need to protect you, something changed. You altered his subconscious and shifted the way he saw you. Your gorgeous smile, your sweet voice, and the way you looked at him before walking away — it consumed him.
When he woke, he decided that he would give you all the time you needed to fully get over Quentin. But he would make sure that his intentions were known — because a girl like you, well it wouldn’t be long before someone tried to win your affection. Bucky only hoped that he had enough charm and luck to be the one to earn it first.
As he entered the kitchen that morning, he saw that you left him a hot cup of coffee in his favorite wolf mug. He beamed, grateful for your thoughtfulness. She knows my favorite mug too. As he got a little closer, he noticed a little sticky note attached to the cup with a heart drawn on it and he melted. She’s too cute.
Bucky felt in his heart that this was the start of something, and he had a strong feeling that things would work out even better than he imagined.
And lucky for the both of you, he was right.
“It was bad, slobbery, and so weird. This guy thought kissing meant shoving his tongue down my throat while simultaneously moaning loudly was the way to get things going. I couldn’t believe how bad he was at just that,” you recounted the events of the night before. “I left before things could progress,” you sighed dramatically.
Nat let out a laugh and nodded in agreement, “That was the right call. The way a man kisses tells you a lot about the way he is in bed.”
“I could not agree with you more. His kisses screamed ‘I don’t know what I’m doing,’” you said sarcastically. “The dude was a doctor too, you’d think he’d know something about something.”
“Too many years of academia must’ve made him neglect other aspects of his life.”
“That’s exactly what my uber driver said on my way back home! He told me to go for a guy who works with his hands next time. I think that’s pretty solid advice,” you said matter-of-factly.
“You talked to your uber driver about it?” she asked in disbelief.
“Oh yeah, I was so disappointed I had to immediately vent it out. Got good advice though, I think I’ll take it up.”
“Interesting — so you aren’t interested in any of the lawyers we work with?” Natasha asked with a grin and a twinkle of mischief in her eye.
You weren’t sure why she looked at you like that. Bucky briefly came to mind, but he was only a really good friend that always came through for you with work. Sure seeing him brightened up your day, and he’d occasionally do things like surprise you with a snack or mid afternoon latte, but you knew he was only being friendly. You would return the favor from time to time too — the two of you had a nice working relationship.
Of course you checked him out every now and then too, but you couldn't help it, the man was gorgeous and beyond well built. While he was big and strong, there was something about his presence alone that made you feel safe whenever you were around him. Being near him brought you comfort, but that didn’t mean you had to date.
Nat often said with certainty that there was something there — she claimed to see lingering glances and chemistry, but you had no idea why. You always told her that she was wrong because you weren’t interested in complicating things in your life.
“Workplace romances are messy, Nat. If life’s taught me anything it’s that relationships are rarely easy. On top of that, we’re so busy, I'm good with just having fun right now.”
Bucky cleared his throat as he walked into the office kitchen, "Any more coffee in the pot?” he asked, looking slightly flushed.
You turned to look at him and noticed that he looked a bit flustered, but not thinking anything of it, you turned around to grab him the pot. You missed the knowing look Natasha gave him and the way Bucky’s eyes widened in response.
“Looks like we’ve got just enough,” you said as you handed him the pot with a soft smile.
“Thanks Y/N,” he said shyly.
Nat was looking at him with amusement. Before you could ask her why — “I totally forgot I’ve got a last minute petition to finish up, but you two stay and chat,” she said. You didn’t see the way she narrowed her eyes and smirked at Bucky as she quickly walked past him.
You shrugged it off, not worrying about how weird the whole interaction felt.
“So Bucky, how's your morning going so far?”
“It’s been going pretty well, I just got out of a meeting with a new client. How’s yours going?”
“Good, I wrapped up the Pym patent issue without a hitch, so can’t complain.”
“Oh very nice, um so listen, I think you should know that I'm pretty handy, with tools and other things,” he said with a bashful smile.
“Good to know, but why are you telling me? Are you — oh my god, you heard me talking to Nat earlier!”
Heat immediately rushed to your cheeks. How much did he hear?!
He quickly interjected, “I’m sorry, I did hear some of it. I know I shouldn’t have been listening, but voices carry in this room. It’s not like I was lying in wait for juicy gossip. Although, this was pretty juicy,” he said softly.
You just looked at him with wide eyes, unable to believe that he eavesdropped on your conversation and now seriously wanted to talk about it.
“Go out with me,” he said abruptly.
“Bucky, if you overheard our conversation, you’d know that I think relationships are a bad idea. Also what the hell man, first you spy on me, now you’re asking me out?”
Bucky blushed at that, “I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t have said anything, but I... Well, I want to help you out.”
“Help me out?”
“I know you’re not looking for anything serious, and I’m not talking about a whirlwind romance, but maybe I can take you out for dinner and we can see where things go. No strings attached, we could just have fun.”
You realized that he was diplomatically trying to ask you if you wanted to be friends with benefits. You were a little disappointed, but you knew what you said, you really were looking for fun right now. Bucky could be that fun, however, you were more than apprehensive.
“So you’re selflessly offering yourself up, because?” You couldn’t help but question his motives, the whole situation was a lot.
“It’s not entirely selfless, I mean, you’re gorgeous. I like being around you, and I know I could treat you right,” he said with newfound confidence.
You tried not to show how much his words affected you. “Did you hear the part where we talked about ultra educated men being bad in bed?” you asked to cut the awkwardness you felt.
“I heard he was a doctor, but I’m not.”
“Well you’re a doctor of law, soo…”
Bucky laughed at that, “Y/N, you can say no. I know this is completely coming out of left field. I simply thought we could come to a mutually beneficial arrangement, but really don’t worry about it. We can pretend I never said a word,” he said sincerely.
You looked at him and took him in for a moment. Here was this handsome and kind man offering himself up on a silver platter. You’d be lying if you said you weren’t seriously considering it. You knew most women would readily accept the offer without hesitation, but you were also aware that things could get quite awkward if it ended badly in any way.
With a deep breath you finally said, “I think I’ll have to pass, Bucky. Not because I’m not attracted to you, but because I don’t want to mess up our professional relationship,” you said, knowing you may very well regret it later.
He shrugged, trying to hide his disappointment, “Can’t blame a man for trying,” he said softly.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
As you laid in bed, swiping through the nerds on Bumble, you thought back to your conversation in the break room. There was no way a man like Bucky would be bad in bed. You knew how much he worked out, you even saw him with Steve after a session in the office gym. He was so sweaty, his white shirt sticking to his broad chest, and those bulging biceps — it was a wonderful sight. The whole disheveled look gave you a couple thoughts, but none you were willing to act on.
You had worked with him for years, and while you considered him a friend, this was uncharted territory. He always flirted with you, but you thought that was just his personality. Now as you looked through the local options on your phone you found yourself comparing them all to Bucky.
Brad the entrepreneur was 1 mile away from you. Jeff the mountain-climbing spirit guide was .5 miles away from you. Ryan the juggler without a job title was 2 miles away. Damn, the dating pool sucked. After a good amount of swiping you finally gave up. No one interested you, not even for a quick hookup. Not when you knew what you could have if you only said the words.
In a bold attempt at taking care of your needs, you pulled up Bucky’s contact info in your phone and started to type out a text.
Y/N: Has the offer expired or can I still accept it?
B: Sorry, I work with a lot of contracts. You’ll have to be more specific :)
Y/N: The offer for us to grab a bite, and maybe something else together.
B: Oh that one, I should’ve specified. That offer has no expiration date — not for you.
Your heart fluttered for a second, and you took a minute to think about what you were going to say next. You knew this guy well, you were attracted to him, and you could do a lot worse. He said there would be no strings attached, so maybe your fear of relationships was unwarranted.
After a moment of deep contemplation you finally responded —
Y/N: Well then, I accept, Buck.
B: Awesome, that’s great! Do you wanna get brunch tomorrow?
Y/N: I can’t think of a better way to spend my Saturday. Are you busy right now?
B: Why you wanna move up our plans? :P
Y/N: I was thinking about it…
B: I shouldn’t tease, I’m at a bar hanging out with Steve and Sam right now. Unless you wanna come out and join us? I would ditch them, but any excuse I offer is going to get a full interrogation lol.
Y/N: I’m already showered and in bed, pal. There’s nothing in this world that could make me get dressed and ready to go out. Don’t worry, I can wait until tomorrow :)
B: Great, how about I pick you up tomorrow at 11?
Y/N: That works! See you then, Buck.
You tried to pretend that the whole exchange didn’t affect you — but it did. Flirting with Bucky made your heart beat a little faster and that probably wasn’t the best thing given the nature of the future arrangement. Deciding to worry about that tomorrow you went to sleep earlier than usual.
That night you dreamt of a sweaty blue eyed man with big arms and an adorable smile.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
When Bucky heard you talking about that guy with the slobbery mouth, he couldn’t stop the idea to create the arrangement from crossing his mind. He had a crush on you, and he’d had it for a long time.
He knew it was a long shot, but it was better than having to overhear conversations about you not getting what you deserve.
He tried doing little favors to try to charm you, but he soon realized you didn’t see them as anything more than friendliness. That didn’t stop him from trying, however. He never outright told you how he felt because he was scared of making things awkward. You showed no obvious indication of interest, and he would rather have your friendship over nothing at all.
Bucky felt like an idiot when you rejected him, and right then he decided to back off. He wasn’t going to be some weird guy that couldn’t take no for an answer. But when you texted him his heart nearly jumped out of his chest; he couldn’t believe you actually agreed.
Now his goal was to finally win your heart, even if he was going about it a bit backwards.
“What’s got you smiling to yourself over there?” Sam asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Shut up, Wilson,” Bucky muttered.
Sam looked taken aback, until — “Oh my god, is the perpetually single Bucky Barnes talking to a girl right now?” he asked with a shit-eating grin.
“Sam seriously shut up, I don’t want Steve to hear.”
“Why not? What are you hiding?”
Steve came back with beers for the three of them, “Someone hiding something?”
Bucky quickly interjected, “No, of course not. Thanks for getting these.” He grabbed a beer and tried to think of a way to change the subject.
Fortunately, Sam was feeling kinder than usual. “He was just telling me about a client of his — said it’s hard to work for someone who hides the ball or doesn’t tell you all the facts of their case.”
Steve hummed in agreement, “Couldn’t agree more, I have had so many cases that would’ve moved along much faster if only the clients were more forthcoming with all the necessary information.”
Sam nodded in agreement, and when Steve looked away he shot a wink at Bucky.
“Anyways, how’s Sharon?” Bucky asked, trying to steer the conversation anywhere else.
“She’s good, her art gallery is doing well. We’ve both been busy, so it's been hard to find the time to get together,” Steve said wistfully.
“But you’re still good right?” Sam asked.
“Yes of course, I love her to death. Just a weird time, nothing to worry about though.”
“Good, I’m glad to hear that,” Bucky said sincerely,
“Speaking of which, I think I’m going to head out a little early, see if I can meet up with her for a bit,” Steve said as he got up.
“Yeah no worries, glad we did this. We don’t have boys' nights often enough,” Bucky said.
“I’m glad too, you guys take it easy and I’ll see you both at work on Monday,” Steve said with a smile as he headed out of the bar.
Sam suddenly looked at Bucky with a smirk, “Okay, I covered for you. Now tell me the big secret that Steve can’t know.”
Bucky groaned at Sam’s annoyingly persistent curiosity. “Sam, it’s not a big deal. It was just a girl that I’m getting brunch with tomorrow.”
“And Steve can’t know about her? I doubt he’d care who you’re getting food with. Unless…” the wheels in Sam’s head started turning. “Do we know her?! It’s not Y/N is it?” he asked with raised eyebrows.
Bucky’s face immediately flushed red, he chugged the rest of his beer and reached for the rest of Steve’s pint. “It’s nothing, Sam. I’ll tell you when something actually happens,” he muttered.
“I can’t believe this, you finally got the balls to ask her out! I never thought I’d see the day. We’ve all known about your giant puppy crush forever, but I can’t believe you actually stepped up,” he said in disbelief.
“It’s not like that, listen just please don't tell Steve. It’s not what you think and you know how intense he gets about relationships.”
“I don’t know what you’re worried about, everyone knows she likes you. The only person that doesn’t know is maybe her. But fine, because I’m a good friend I won’t say anything,” Sam said with a bright smile.
“No one knows how she feels for sure, but thank you. Wanna play a round of pool?” Bucky asked, ready for a new topic.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
You woke up earlier than usual and went for a run to start your day. After a good night’s sleep you were feeling pretty excited about meeting up with Bucky. Sure, what you were doing was a bit out of character, but you had a feeling it’d be worthwhile. You were looking forward to not having to go on a first date with a stranger for a while. Plus, Bucky was the best, what better guy to have fun with than him.
After your run you took a shower and got ready. You did your makeup just the way you liked, and topped it all off with a dark red lipstick. You finally slipped into a navy long-sleeve skater dress and black booties to complete the look. You looked good and you knew it. You checked your phone for the time and saw that you were all dressed and ready to go with twenty minutes to spare.
You figured you’d tidy up a bit with your extra time in case Bucky wanted to come over after brunch. Just as you were nearly finished reorganizing, your phone lit up with a text from Bucky.
B: Hey, Y/N. I’m leaving now, I’ll see you in five.
Y/N: Sounds good, Buck.
You started to feel nervous. You knew this wasn’t a date, but you felt butterflies in your stomach at the prospect of spending time with him. You reminded yourself it was only Bucky, and there was nothing to worry about.
Knowing he was punctual, you decided to grab your belongings and lock up. No need to make the man come meet you at your door — this wasn’t really a date. You stepped outside just as Bucky pulled into a parking spot. He swiftly hopped out of his black Audi A6 to greet you. You couldn’t help but notice how hot he looked — wearing a white henley shirt with a leather jacket stretched over his broad frame and dark jeans.
“Hi, you look beautiful, Y/N,” Bucky breathed, a shy smile tugging at his lips.
You beamed back at him, “Thank you, you don’t look so bad yourself.”
He wasn’t sure how to greet you given the new dynamic between the two of you, so he pulled you into a warm hug. You felt those pesky butterflies again in his embrace. When you pulled away you saw a light blush on his cheeks. What’s that about?
With his hand on your lower back he walked around to the passenger door to open it for you. As you got in you took a peek around and saw that he kept a neat car, and he also had a beautiful bouquet of red roses sitting in the back buckled up safely. Were those for you?
He got into the driver’s seat and looked over at you and your puzzled expression. “Okay, I know this isn’t like a date date, but I bought you some flowers. They’re already in a vase in water so they should be fine in the car.”
You smiled shyly, “Thanks, Buck, that was really thoughtful of you.”
He smirked, “My pleasure, now let's get some waffles,” he said gleefully.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
Bucky took you to the cutest little cafe. There were large string lights hanging above you in rows, and warm heat lamps to ensure you felt cozy while on the charming outdoor patio. The whole place felt intimate and romantic, and it made you wonder why you had never heard of the place before.
“Bucky this place is beautiful, how’d you hear about it?”
“Oh I don’t know, I just googled ‘really good waffles’ and it came up,” he said with a teasing smile. At the same time, he thought to himself about how he actually stumbled upon the place a while back and how he always wanted to bring you here with him.
“Well let’s see if google is right.”
He hummed in agreement, “Also I wanted to tell you earlier,” he paused, giving you a small smile — “I'm glad you texted me last night. I was afraid I might’ve overstepped yesterday. I know I shouldn’t have listened in on your conversation, but I’m happy about where it's brought us.”
“I think I might be happy about that too,” you said, meeting his gaze.
Once your waiter came over, Bucky asked if you wanted to share a mimosa flight with him. You gladly agreed, and placed the rest of your order at the same time.
“Dude, I’m obsessed with this place based on mimosa options alone.”
“I know, you can really tell the quality of a place based on their mimosa selection,” he let out a laugh.
You giggled and nodded your head in agreement, “So how was boys’ night?”
“Fun as usual, played a little pool and caught up with the guys. It was nice to hang out outside of work. It’s too bad you couldn’t come out,” he said with a grin.
“I never hang out with you guys at bars, sure the occasional lunch or dinner because of craziness at work, but not that. Steve and his soft heart would probably think we had something going on.”
He titled his head and smiled softly, “You’re right, he would.”
The waiter returned faster than expected with your mouth-watering food and four mimosa’s on a flight board in the flavors of: peach, mango, blood orange and strawberry. The two of you dove in, and you realized the reviews were more than right. The waffles were light, fluffy and topped with the tastiest whipped butter.
“It’s official, this is the best brunch spot in town. Whoever gets to be your girlfriend will be very lucky because you’ve got the food recommendations down,” you said kindly.
Bucky beamed at you, “Well I’m happy to bring you here whenever you’d like. Plus, with the um arrangement, I think we should probably get food together often too. I have a feeling we’ll work up an appetite,” he said with playful eyes as he took a sip of his mimosa.
“Right, the arrangement. Why’d I forget about that,” you said, caught off guard for a moment. Everything had felt like a real date up until he said that, and you lost yourself in the fantasy for a while.
Bucky’s eyes widened slightly, “Do you want to forget about it?”
Fortunately, you remembered why you agreed to go through with this — you’re the one who said you didn’t want a relationship. “No, of course not. It was a good idea, and I’m looking forward to it. Should we discuss terms?”
Bucky started to laugh, “Leave it to you to make this sound like a negotiation.”
You smiled sheepishly, “Okay, okay, I just don’t know how this goes. You’re actually my friend. What’s the plan?”
“I’m good with no plan. I just want to make you feel good and take care of you,” he said bluntly. Bucky was surprised by his honesty, but he had wanted you for so long. He couldn’t hide his feelings for you any longer. If this was the only way he could have you, then he would make the most of it.
Your eyebrows raised at his candor and you released a breath you didn’t know you were holding at the sudden shift in tone. “Really? Take care of me?”
“When I heard you talking about that guy I got a little upset. You are worthy of so much better. I want to show how much better it can be. I’ll make sure you’re kissed and touched the way you deserve to be,” his eyes flickered to your lips after a beat.
“You sure you can get the job done?” you asked coyly.
“Why don’t we get out of here and find out?”
You reached for your clutch. “Lead the way.”
┈┈┈┈┈・・
Bucky’s demeanor changed the minute you got into his car. He looked at you with hungry eyes and desire — you liked the heat you felt under his intense gaze. Unable to wait a second longer, he placed his hand on the side of your head and leaned in. With soft lips he kissed you gently, carefully, giving you the option to stop him if you wanted. But you needed more — you reached your hand up and gripped his hair, pulling him closer to you. He groaned softly, low in his throat, and then he deepened the kiss. Tongues slipped past parted lips, an urgency in the kiss, his scruff rubbing hard against your face.
There were no thoughts in your head other than how absolutely right his lips felt against yours. You were lost in him — you wanted him closer, you needed to feel more of him. You parted the kiss with a bite on his bottom lip, breathing heavily, “Bucky?”
He met your gaze, his eyes dark, and his voice coarse. “What is it?”
“Can we go back to your place?”
He let out a breath, “Right, yes. Let’s go.” He leaned in quickly to peck your lips once more before he got moving; his hand never left your thigh as he drove back to his place.
You stumbled backward into his apartment with his lips firmly against yours, his arms around your waist. He spun you around as he shut the door and gently pressed you up against it. You could feel the firmness of his body, the sturdy muscles underneath the soft leather.
“Tell me what you want, babygirl.” Bucky whispered, lips pressed to the shell of your ear.
Babygirl.
You really liked the sound of that.
“I want you to take care of me like you said you would,” you murmured.
His gaze on you made your skin burn. Without missing a beat, he slid his arms down and around until he reached the back of your thighs, swiftly pulling you up with your legs wrapped around his waist. You wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him in for a filthy kiss.
You were grateful you chose to wear a dress because you could feel him hard and heavy against your lace-covered core. You kissed and sucked your way down his neck as he carried you to his room — each step creating delicious friction against your sensitive slit.
Once he got you in his room he put you down on the edge of his bed. Without breaking eye contact, he finally took off his jacket, then his shirt and shoes. You followed him and removed your booties, then your dress, leaving you in your red lace push-up bra and matching underwear. Once you were done you inched your way backwards on his bed, watching him, waiting for him.
Bucky couldn’t take his eyes off of you. The girl of his dreams, sprawled out in his bed, looking at him with lust in her eyes. He took off his jeans and climbed towards you, taking his time, taking you in.
If this turned out to be a one time thing he was going to make sure it counted for something.
He grabbed the back of your neck and pulled you in for a bruising kiss, tongue sliding along yours; he knew he would never get tired of this. “Can I taste you, babygirl?” he asked against your lips.
You nodded eagerly, “Please,” you whispered.
He kneeled in between your legs — hot, heavy breaths against your thighs, featherlight kisses as he moved towards your throbbing bud. He hooked his thumbs into the sides of your panties and slid them down, pulling them off your ankles and throwing them over his shoulder. Bucky looked into your eyes as he wrapped his arms around your thighs, spreading them apart for him — then his tongue was on you, lightly licking up and down your folds. His warm, wet tongue lapped at your clit teasingly.
“Bucky, please, fuck,” you whimpered.
He couldn't deny you. He sucked your clit ardently, groaning when your fingers ran through his scalp and tugged his hair. The vibrations made you squirm hard, panting, a hot mess.
All too smoothly, he tightened his grip on your thighs and manhandled you so that you were on top of him. You swiftly grabbed his headboard as he pulled you down onto his mouth again, his show of strength turning you on even more.
“Ride my face, doll,” he grunted before diving back in, his scruff grazing your inner thighs.
You happily obliged, grinding against his face, circling your hips, as he eagerly flicked and sucked circles over your clit like he was on a mission.
You could hardly take any more, feeling your control waiver, your thighs started to close around his head. “Fuck, Bucky I’m —” Your body shivered and shook on his mouth — a warm wave of pleasure washing over you. But he didn’t let you pull away, he sucked harder, prolonging your euphoria, until another stronger wave crashed into you, leaving you a shaking whimpering mess above him. Your sweet cries were music to his ears.
Satisfied, he finally released you and allowed you to climb off of him. You fell onto your back next to him, a breathless mess. He turned to his side to face you, appreciating your tousled beauty. He kissed his way from your shoulder, up to your neck, finally meeting your lips. You knit your fingers into his hair and held him in place, your tongue exploring his mouth, the taste of you lingering on him.
Bucky kissed you slowly, passionately, like he was savoring every moment.
He finally pulled away for air, “You want anything else?” his dark eyes met yours. “You want me to fuck you, babygirl?” he breathed against your lips.
Instead of using your words you pushed him onto his back and straddled his lap. His thick swollen head nudged your entrance through his boxers. You unhooked your bra and finally peeled the last shred of cloth between the two of you — his thick cock sprung free, hard and ready for you. His large hands tightly squeezed your hips as you hovered over him. He wanted to pull you down, ease his way into you, but he let you set the pace. With one hand on his broad chest you lined yourself up with his cock and sunk down inch by glorious inch.
His self control was wavering, but he wanted to take his time and give you whatever you wanted. As if you could sense his desperation for more, you started to move, rolling your hips, bouncing on him.
“Just like that, you ride me so good, baby.”
You grinded down on him hard, and Bucky could barely keep up. Swiftly, he flipped you so that you were on your back and he could take back control. His swollen tip teased your clit on it’s way to its rightful place, finally pushing into you. “Mm, Buck,” you wailed wantonly. He spread your legs and placed them over his shoulders so that he could deepen his thrusts, the new angle hitting places you didn’t know existed. With rough steady strokes, Bucky took you apart. The weight of his body on yours compelled you to relinquish control, taking whatever the brawny man gave you.
“Such a good girl, takin’ me so well,” he groaned. The feel of your tight walls stretching around him, taking him deep, was pure ecstasy.
“Right there, please don’t stop, fuck —”
“I know, baby, let go for me.” He rubbed small circles over your swollen clit and you squeezed your eyes shut letting out a salacious moan. Stars bursted behind your eyelids as pleasure surged throughout your body, your pussy clenching down on him as you climaxed.
Watching you falling apart was Bucky’s undoing. “Fuck, I’m gonna —,” his thrusts faltered as he spilled his release deep inside you. He bucked his hips a couple more times, emptying himself with every push.
Cautious of crushing you with his beefy weight, he rolled onto his back taking you with him, you sprawled on top of him.
You didn’t have the strength to move; you were blissfully, thoroughly, fucked.
You thought about how easily you could get used to this.
His fingers traced lightly along your back, as he memorized the way you felt. Your body on top of his, your scent, your soft curves — he committed it all to memory in case this was the last time.
Luckily for him, it wasn’t.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
Bucky stayed over at your place on Sunday and the two of you drove to work together Monday morning. Before heading inside the office the two of you shared a few passionate kisses in the parking lot. You didn’t want anyone to see you together, so you thought that would be a good place to share one last moment. Unbeknownst to either of you, Steve saw you from his car across the way.
Steve couldn’t believe his eyes, his best friend finally went for it. He was ecstatic, and he quickly grabbed his belongings so that he could find Bucky to congratulate him for earning your affection.
He slipped into Bucky’s office with a beaming smile just as Bucky was unpacking his briefcase for the day.
“So it looks like someone had a nice weekend,” Steve said with a proud smile.
Bucky looked at him with raised eyebrows in confusion. Did Sam spill the beans? “What are you going on about, Rogers?”
Steve gave him a knowing look, “I saw you two lovebirds in the parking lot, why didn’t you tell me on Friday you jerk?” he asked teasingly.
Bucky stuttered a breath, “Right, uh Steve, it’s not what it looks like.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s just casual, we’re not together like that.”
Steve took a moment to contemplate what that meant. “You idiot, you’re only sleeping with Y/N?”
“Didn’t know you cared so much about my sex life but yes, I am.”
“I only care when you’re sleeping with the girl you’ve been in love with for years and you’re pretending it doesn’t mean anything.”
“I wouldn’t say I’m in love, Steve. And I never said it didn’t mean anything, I just haven’t told her how I actually feel.”
“Bucky, you bring her flowers and chocolate every Valentine’s Day, you try to leave work at the same time as her so you can walk her to her car every night, and you even pretend to like romantic comedies so that you have an excuse to take her to the movies. You’re pretending to be casual with her when you are literally in love with her. Why would you start this?”
Bucky had no idea that you were in the copier room next to his office, and that you could hear his entire conversation. He was right, sound really did carry in the building.
You could not believe what you were hearing, how could you not see it? All along, he was always there, and you never realized it.
Bucky’s voice cut your reverie, “Because it gives me the chance to be with her in some way. Honestly Steve, I’d take her in any way I can get her.”
“But you want more, you always have.”
“She doesn't, this is all she wants right now. I’d much rather have this type of relationship with her than none at all.”
“And she told you that? She doesn't want anything more?” Steve asked gently.
“Practically, and I’m not going to risk messing up whatever we are trying to find out.”
“You could be so much more, at least now you know she’s attracted to you.”
“I could also scare her away for good,” he paused, not truly meaning his next words, “I’m content with where we are.”
Steve looked at him in disbelief, “You keep telling yourself that.”
Bucky sat down and exhaled a deep breath. Running a hand through his hair, “Okay — I’m in love with her.”
You tried to quietly walk back to your office so that Bucky wouldn’t know that you were listening in, but just as you nearly turned the corner you ran right into Nat. You quickly lifted your index finger to your lips, silently indicating she should be quiet, but she only looked at you with a knowing smirk and a raised eyebrow.
Your eyes widened, she heard the whole thing too. You grabbed her arm and pulled her towards your office, shutting the door once you were finally inside.
“Bucky is in love with me!” You whisper-yelled at the smug redhead.
“Nice of you to finally catch up.”
“What do you mean, you knew too?” you asked in disbelief.
“It wasn’t really a secret, Y/N. I told you that he liked you constantly. You’re the one who couldn’t see it and chose casual dating instead.”
“I feel terrible, I didn’t know. I was content to write off all men because I was afraid of making my life complicated, but now here I am, and everything is so complicated.”
“You’re an everyday Avril Lavigne,” she said sarcastically.
You rolled your eyes and scoffed, “What should I do?
“Well from what I heard, you already did something this weekend. Kudos to you,” she smirked. She didn’t miss the shadow of a tall broad man outside your frosted glass door — but you did. Bucky could hear your every, albeit muffled, word.
You slapped your palm on your forehead. “Oh my goodness, Nat. Yeah, I did okay. That beautiful man rocked my freaking world. He had me seeing stars, and he was the best sex of my life. From our first kiss I knew I wanted more of him. Bucky is all the fun I was looking for, wrapped in the warmth and comfort that I feel only when I’m with him.”
You took a big breath to stop your rambling when you finally realized, “Holy shit, I’m in love with him.”
“There it is. Y/N you bought him his favorite cupcakes on his half-birthday, and you bought him custom cufflinks on his actual birthday. You’ve been doing little girlfriend things for a while now.”
“In my defense, I didn’t think he’d actually wear them. I just thought they were cute,” you muttered.
“He wears the hell out of them, even though French cuff shirts are more effort, he wears them just so he can wear your cufflinks.”
Bucky cleared his throat outside your door. You’ve got to be kidding me. He eavesdropped again.
Nat grinned at you, “So I’m gonna go. It was really great catching up.” She walked out the door and gave Bucky a courtesy nod as she passed by him.
“Oops, I did it again,” Bucky let out a nervous chuckle as he stepped into your office and closed the door.
“How much did you hear?” you asked, heat rushing to your cheeks.
“Everything after ‘rocked my freaking world’,” he sat down and tried to hide his goofy smile behind his large hand.
“Oh great,” you muttered.
After a brief pause, “Um, did you hear something too?” he asked with faux nonchalance.
“Yeah, Buck, I did.”
Bucky looked at you with guilty eyes. “Okay, I’m sorry for what I did then.”
“What?”
“I offered you the arrangement under a guise, I wasn’t honest about my feelings.”
You let out a disbelieving laugh as you walked around your desk so that you could lean against it in front of his chair. “Bucky, I’m not mad about that, I made it nearly impossible to date me even if you wanted to. I’m overwhelmed at all these revelations. I’ve purposefully kept myself away from relationships because, honestly, I’m scared. I’m afraid of giving someone the ability to hurt me.”
“I’m still sorry, I should’ve been more open and forthright.” He paused for a moment, then spoke again with determination in his eyes. “And I understand how you feel, but I promise, if you’ll let me, I will do everything I can to make you happy. I swear I will never purposefully hurt you, and if I do, which I’ll do everything in my power not to, you can murder me. I know you know how to get away with it too. Just give me a chance, please.”
Your eyes watered at his declaration, “The way I feel when I’m with you is worth changing my ways.” It had taken you so long to figure it out, but your next words were the honest truth. “Bucky — I think I love you.”
His eyes widened and his breath hitched in his throat, “Say it again,” he whispered.
“I… I love you, you big dork.”
He stood up, a glowing smile on his face as he grabbed you by the waist and wrapped his arms around you. His cerulean eyes filled with nothing but love and adoration met your sparkling gaze. “I love you, babygirl.”
You pulled him down and closed the distance between your lips. Warm, tingly, perfect. His lips were made to kiss yours. You knew then what you were too afraid to admit in the past.
Bucky was exactly what you needed all along.
“Another minute, please baby.” He greedily leaned in to meet your lips again.
“I’m not your baby, Buck. This is just fun for now,” you mumbled as you kissed the handsome brawny man, your tongue sliding along his.
Bucky’s brain short circuited — you felt like heaven, but your words, they made no sense. You were his and he couldn’t comprehend why you’d say that. “So…” he slowly pulled back, “you’re just using me?” He tilted your chin so that you had to look up into his gorgeous blue eyes. “When you wake up in my arms, you’re just my pal?” he asked with a small pout on his lips.
Heat rose to your cheeks, “a very good pal,” you murmured, peppering kisses along his strong jawline, hoping to distract him for a moment. He caved immediately, grabbing your face and redirecting you to his soft lips. You held onto his broad shoulders as he traced his tongue along yours, making your heart race in your chest.
Bucky groaned when you tangled your fingers in his hair and gently pulled — every single time you touched him he felt it; that spark, that perfect jolt of electricity running through his veins. It was ever present when he had the privilege of being close to you.
One thing was for sure, Bucky knew that you were made to be his. You moaned as his large warm hands cupped your ass, squeezing firmly.
“You can use all of me,” he muttered as he pulled away and looked into your brilliant eyes. “But just so you know,” his fingers brushed against your cheek, “I want so much more with you.”
You narrowed your eyes and wrapped your arms around his neck, “Bucky, c’mon. It’s not a good idea,” you whispered against his lips.
“Says you,” he said before his lips brushed over yours, trailing down your jawline, to your neck, slowly; as if your denial meant nothing.
As if you were his, body and soul.
And maybe you were, you thought as he parted from you with a soft kiss on your forehead. But that didn’t mean he had to know.
While you repressed your feelings, Bucky relished the way you looked at him hazily with kiss swollen lips; you were the most adorable girl in his eyes.
“I’ve gotta go meet up with Sam,” he breathed out, a shy smile tugging at his lips. “But I’ll text you later, okay?” he said before swooping in for one more sweet kiss.
You nodded, “Okay — I mean you don’t have to text me,” you shrugged as nonchalantly as you could. “I’ll see ya, Buck.”
Bucky shook his head with a grin, he couldn’t understand why you chose to pretend there wasn’t anything more between you two. “Bye, angel.”
┈┈┈┈┈・・
You were nervous when you moved into the townhouse next to Bucky’s. Worried that you would have a rowdy neighbor or someone annoying next door. However, you were incredibly pleased to find out that your new neighbor was none of those things.
A few days after you had moved in, Bucky came over to introduce himself with a little box of cupcakes in hand, offering to give you the low down on the neighborhood. That visit turned into a full on gossip session, where you learned all you needed to know about the people nearby, including the sweetest one next door.
The two of you formed a strong bond, and you’d often hang out with him and his friends in your free time. That was a year ago, and in that time you had gotten to know Bucky incredibly well. He was the best guy and you were happy to call him your friend.
That’s all you were for a while, just friends. You knew he dated a lot, hell you’d seen enough to know that for sure. And you dated a bit too, hoping to find the right person for you.
Unfortunately, it felt less and less likely the more you tried.
Every man you gave a chance took the opportunity to hurt you. Every time you bravely opened your heart, someone unworthy of you would weasel his way in only to shatter it from the inside.
You made the choice to put an end to the cycle; you didn’t need love. But just because you didn’t need it, doesn’t mean you didn’t want it. From time to time, you would see things that would make you long for a different reality.
Couples walking hand in hand, smiling at one another. Girls getting flowers from the boys that loved them. And having someone to do life’s simplest things with, like getting a cup of coffee sounded so wonderful.
It wasn’t the grand romantic gestures you longed for; no, it was the soft comfort that came with loving and being loved. To walk through life knowing someone loved you just as much as you loved them. Yet while you tried to let that longing fade, the hopeless romantic inside still wanted it.
Undoubtedly, love was quite the notion. But if it was so significant and worthwhile, then why did it feel impossible to find?
Nobody complemented you the way you wanted, and as hard as you tried, it felt like a pointless endeavor.
After one more boring night with yet another incompatible guy, you found yourself at Bucky’s doorstep.
He opened the door and in a rare act of bravery you flung your arms around his neck and kissed him; forgetting that he was your friend and seeing him for the man that he was. He reciprocated immediately, wrapping his big strong arms around your body.
His touch, his lips, and everything in that moment felt divine. You melted into him, and he held you against his muscular chest tightly, as if he was afraid you’d disappear.
“Just one night, please?” you whispered against his lips.
He nodded his head as he looked down at you with dark and dilated pupils. After shutting the door he was on you, picking you up as if you weighed nothing, and carrying you to his bedroom where the two of you shared one of the best nights of your collective lives.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
That was months ago, and now you and Bucky were in a weird situation because one night turned into countless nights ever since.
He claimed he wanted you, but you weren’t so sure. If his prior reputation meant anything, then you knew you were making the right call.
He never had relationships in the past, and you weren’t willing to open your heart up to someone that couldn’t be serious about you.
That’s how you fell into this arrangement. You’d fall into bed with Bucky then pretend it didn’t mean anything right after. It was easier to rationalize and continue on if you kept your feelings out of it. That’s what guys always did to you, and you figured it was a good method to shield your own heart.
Bucky would often try to convince you there was something more, that you were his, but to protect yourself from pain you refrained from believing him. Doubts played on a loop in the back of your mind — if he’s never been serious about someone in the past, then why would it be any different now?
After one too many run-ins with his one night stands, you knew better. And while you hadn’t seen him with anyone else in a while, you thought it’d be best to err on the side of caution. Hearts were often foolish, and you felt it was best to watch over your own.
Lately though, Bucky was trying extra hard to make you see that he was all in for you.
Bucky: Hey, I’m at the store. Can I get you anything?”
You tried to hide the little smile that graced your lips whenever he texted you. Keeping sex and emotions separate was a lot easier in theory, but not so much in practice. Nevertheless, you tried to hide your feelings when you communicated with him — you didn’t want him to have power over you.
Y/N: Noo thanks.
Bucky: I’ll take that as ice cream and some candy because I see your favorites in the shape of hearts.
You were about to respond but then your phone buzzed again.
Bucky: Oh that reminds me, do you have a valentine this year?
Y/N: You don’t have to bring me anything, and no Bucky, I do not.
Bucky: In that case, will you be my valentine? I’m free on the 14th if you are.
Why did he have to be so adorable? Everything would be a lot easier if he wasn’t so damn cute.
Y/N: It’s a little early for that don’t you think?
Bucky: Why are the store’s already full of red and pink heart stuff if not to serve as a reminder that I should have a valentine then?
You giggled at his message and shook your head. Bucky was too much — a bit too sweet, and silly, and good to you. It didn’t make any sense.
Y/N: I’ll think about it. I’ve gotta keep my options open :P
┈┈┈┈┈・・
A knock on your door pulled you away from the book you were reading. You opened the door to find a flustered Bucky holding a giant red heart-shaped box of chocolate and a paper bag with what appeared to be ice cream among other things.
“Bucky, I told you I didn’t need anything,” you shook your head with a grin as you stepped aside to let him in.
“Well I needed an excuse to see you before our next appointment,” he said with a slight blush on his cheeks. After Steve overheard one of your more colorful scheduling conversations, you decided to refer to all your future hookups as appointments. Although, if it was up to him there would be no need for scheduling or code words because you belonged with him every night.
He walked over to your kitchen counter so that he could set all of his Valentine’s Day stuff down and put the ice cream in the fridge.
After he finished putting it away, he turned and met your gaze. “Be my valentine, please.”
“Bucky…” you crossed your arms as you looked down at your sock-clad feet. You didn’t want to hurt him.
“Why not? Why can’t I call you mine?”
He’d never asked that question before.
Bucky was always content to let you brush him off but now it seemed like he genuinely wanted to know.
You looked into his eyes and took a deep breath before deciding to tell him the partial truth.
“You don’t do love, you don’t do relationships, and I can’t let you into my heart if there’s no space for me in yours.”
The honest truth was that he already occupied a big part of your heart, but that felt far scarier to admit, so you didn’t.
Bucky’s eyes widened as he took in your words. That was not the response he anticipated. “You think I’m incapable of love?”
“No, I’m sure you could love somebody. I just, I know that’s not something you’ve done with others before. I’ve seen the girls on their way out, your reputation has always been as kind of a ladies man, Bucky. You know that.”
Bucky felt his heart break. He had no idea you felt that way. This whole time he thought you were teasing him whenever you turned him down. You were so good to him, and the intimate moments you shared always felt laced with something deeper and unspoken. He swallowed the lump in his throat, before muttering, “You’re right.”
You nodded your head, grateful that at least now he understood. “Do you still want to hang out, maybe watch a movie?”
“Um, actually, I’m not feeling very well. I uh, think I’m gonna head home.”
“Oh okay, well do you want me to make you something to eat or can I get you anything?” you asked, concerned about his sudden change in condition.
Bucky wouldn’t meet your eyeline, “No thanks, sweetheart. I’ll see you later.”
“Well thanks for the valentines stuff,” you said with a smile. “That was sweet of you.”
“You're welcome,” he said before turning to leave abruptly. That’s not normal.
“Buck, are you okay?” you grabbed his hand before he could walk away.
He gave you a halfhearted smile, “I’ll be fine. Bye Y/N,” and with that he turned and left.
That was weird. You knew that man, and he’d never acted so off. And as much as you pretended not to need it, you loved how he never left without kissing you goodbye. Maybe he was sick, although in the time that you’d known him he never got sick. You pondered on that as you sifted through the bag he left behind.
He bought all your favorite sweets and even got you a little brown bear that held a tiny heart. What a dork. You smiled as you took in his silly thoughtfulness, but then you caught a glimpse of the chocolate box and noticed that there was a red envelope attached to it.
Curious as to what Bucky could have written in it, you carefully pulled it off and opened it up.
The cover of the card had a little baby yoda holding a heart with the saying, “Baby, yoda one for me.”
Oh my goodness, Bucky.
You hesitantly opened the card to see his penmanship —
Hi angel,
I’m not great with words, but I wanted you to know that I’ve sure enjoyed all the time we’ve spent together these last couple of months. I know you think this is casual for me, like I know it might be for you. But as I walked through the store today I saw all these couples together doing the most mundane things, and I found myself wishing then that you were there with me too. I want to push the cart while we pick out fruit. I want to hold your hand whenever we go out. I want everything normal and simple with you, by my side.
I know I’m early with all the cheesy valentines stuff, and I promise to give you a more romantic Valentine’s Day if you’ll let me. But please know, I don’t want you to keep your options open.
Because you are the only option for me.
Love,
James Bucky Barnes
Tears welled in your eyes as you realized all the while you had been pushing Bucky away, he had been falling for you. All the times you tried to protect your heart from him, he was silently letting you into his. You misjudged him for how he was, and overlooked who he became for you.
Grabbing the little bear and your keys you quickly ran out of your door only to find Bucky outside leaning against his motorcycle quietly looking up at the sky.
Halting in your tracks, you stood still as you took in the striking man lost in rumination.
All you’d ever wanted was for someone to care for you, honestly and truly. A person you’d never have to second guess; because all life ever gave you was people to doubt. You chastised yourself for not realizing that you had found it in him.
“Hey,” you said.
Bucky blinked, coming back to the present moment. “Oh hey, I was just —,”
“I read the card,” you murmured.
“Uh um —,” He placed a hand behind his neck as he thought about how to explain that.
“Will you be my valentine?” you interjected as you held out the bear. “Even if we are a bit early.”
Bucky furrowed his brow, “Really?” he whispered as he reached out for the plushie.
“I’m sorry it took me so long,” you said as you stepped closer to him. “I was scared of opening myself up and getting hurt again — but I’m done pretending we’re anything less than what we are,” you said candidly.
Bucky’s breath hitched in his throat; here he was wishing to the stars for the girl he treasured to somehow feel the same way, and now there you stood.
”Oh yeah, and what are we?” he asked with a soft grin.
“A whole lot more than just friends.”
He set the bear down on his saddle and grabbed you by the waist. Pulling you into his arms as he looked into your beautiful eyes with an adorable smile on his lips. “I don’t want to hurt you, angel. All I’ve wanted for months now is just to call you mine,” he said as he cupped your cheek.
You leaned into his touch, feeling warm and grateful that your feelings were reciprocated. “I really am sorry, Buck. I —,”
“It’s okay, you have nothing to apologize for,” he said before gently kissing your forehead. Your eyes flickered up to meet his stormy-blue ones looking at you adoringly. “You are the one I’ve been waiting for and I’m happy to be here now.”
Your hand made its way to the back of his neck, “And you’re sure about this? You don’t think you’ll grow tired of me too fast?” you whispered softly. This was still new, and your head liked to give you doubts your heart knew were unwarranted.
He could feel your apprehension and he understood now that you were cautious — but he was more than determined to treat you with the love and unending devotion you deserved.
Bucky shook his head, incapable of keeping the grin off his face. “Believe me, I will never be tired of you,” he said sincerely, before his rough hands squeezed your hips and his lips collided with yours.
The warm steam engulfed you as you stepped into the bathroom to join your boyfriend in the shower. As you quietly pulled open the shower door, you drank in the sight of Bucky’s broad muscular back, his perfect ass, and those thick muscular thighs. Talk about the ideal man. He was washing his hair and had yet to notice your presence. Hoping to surprise him like he always did with you, you tiptoed towards him before slowly wrapping your arms around his hard torso from behind, smiling as he groaned in acknowledgement.
“Did someone get lonely?” he asked playfully.
You slowly traced your fingers over his abs, up and down the rigid muscles. “No, just thought about how important it is to save water.” You kissed him in between his shoulder blades, and moved your hands down until you reached his unsurprisingly hard cock. All it took was the lightest touch and Bucky was ready for you, always.
Stroking him gently, you relished the way he instinctively thrust into your hand. “My, someone’s eager,” you teased before kissing his shoulder and stroking him more purposefully.
“You’re damn right.” Bucky grabbed the hand you had on his length and turned around placing it around his neck as he kissed you fervently. His aching cock rubbed against your slit as his tongue slipped between your soft lips. He felt goosebumps rise on his skin as you sucked on his tongue and tugged on his hair. Unable to wait a second longer, he spun you around and pushed you up against the cold tile wall so that your back faced his front.
He roughly parted your legs before teasingly sliding his cock through your slick. “Please, Buck,” you whimpered. He wanted to point out how you were the eager one now, but he really needed you. He could never deny you anyways — not that he’d ever want to.
He bent you over a bit and eased his way inside you, groaning as he bottomed out inside your tight wet heat. “Fucking perfect,” he mumbled to himself as you adjusted to his size and placed your hands on the wall to brace yourself. With a firm grip on your hips he slammed into you, thrusting rough and hard.
Normally, he liked to take his time and worship every inch of your body, but he knew the two of you had places to be today. Bucky knew what you needed and he made sure to hit all the right spots to get you there.
You mumbled expletives and moaned salaciously as your beefy man fucked you senseless. You clenched your eyes shut and tried to steady your breathing as the coil tightened in your belly. “Fuck B, I’m close—,” you said as you played with your clit.
“I know, can feel ya squeezing around me,” he muttered as he gripped your hips even more firmly with his large rough hands. Bucky pushed into you even harder somehow, sinking unbelievably deeper, and that was all it took. The coiled snapped as strong waves of pleasure overruled your body.
You cried out as your body shook, tightening around him as his thrusts became more shallow.
“One more, gorgeous, please,” he groaned as he reached around to swirl the pad of his thumb in circles over your clit, hard, and fast. Your body was his and he harshly picked up the pace when he felt you clench around him once more. “Such a good fucking girl, made for me,” he mumbled, and you’d be lying if you said his sweet dirty praises didn’t do something to you. You screamed out his name as you came so hard you heard a ringing in your ears.
Bucky held onto your hips as he shuddered through his own release, incapable of holding it together a moment longer. “Fuck—”
As you both came back to earth you finally stood up straight and Bucky took the opportunity to lean down and lazily pepper your neck with kisses. You giggled at his soft action, a stark contrast from his prior roughness. You felt grateful for the duality of his nature; he truly gave you everything you wanted in a man.
Turning around you met his deep blue gaze, and the two of you could not hide your bright smiles. You moved under the stream of water and washed yourself properly as Bucky watched. Unable to keep his hands to himself, he helped you and ended up on his knees for a bit until you begrudgingly reminded him that you really needed to get ready.
“To be continued then,” he said matter-of-factly as he kissed your inner thigh.
After you both got out and started to get ready, Bucky broke the companionable silence. “Baby, I didn’t wanna say it earlier, but I think you’re kinda bad at water conservation, I mean in the time that we spent in there —”
You playfully narrowed your eyes and crossed your arms as you waited for him to continue. Observing your sassy body language, he smiled coyly and decided against teasing you. “Um nevermind.”
You let out a laugh at his silliness. “You’re too much, B. How much time do we have left?”
He chuckled, finally dropping his faux shyness as he checked his phone. “We have a little over an hour, do you want me to run out and get the pies for us? I know a shop that’s still open.”
“Ooh yes, then I won’t have to rush. Could you grab a pecan and pumpkin, pretty please? I forgot about most stores being closed.”
“Sure thing, beautiful. I’ll be back in 20. Maybe then you can help me pick out a tie.”
“You’re not going to wear that henley?” you pointed at the red shirt he slipped on.
He shook his head, “It’s dinner with your parents, after eight years. How else will they know I grew up?”
“I think the scruffy beard, massive handsome body, and general slightly more mature demeanor will do it,” you said sarcastically.
Pausing to process your words, “You objectify me so much these days,” he said, averting his gaze.
“Shit, I’m sorry,” you said sincerely. “I’ll stop commenting on your body if you want me to.”
“God, no. Please don’t stop. I was only making an observation,” he said with a goofy smile on his face.
Goodness, he’s in such a mood today.
Pinching the bridge of your nose in disbelief and holding back a smile, “Bucky, just go. I’ll pick something out for you while you’re gone.”
“Thanks, babe.” He beamed, quickly swooping in for a chaste kiss before heading out of his house.
┈┈┈┈┈・・
“What are you all nervous for? They know you well and practically consider you a son…” You peered at Bucky as he asked you about what flowers your mother hated.
He let you talk him down to a white button-down shirt and slacks, which he looked so good in. His large biceps and broad chest in that shirt made you want to call off everything you had to do until the end of the year so that you could spend all your time in bed with him. But alas, you had to do dinner with your parents tonight.
“I’m scared I got the wrong flowers, Y/N, and that your mom is going to judge me for that.”
God, he’s ridiculous and adorable.“Red and white carnations fit the holiday theme just fine, B. I love the arrangement you picked out.” Your phone started to buzz in your lap, “Wait one sec — “Hey mom, yeah my boyfriend and I are on our way.”
Bucky looked at you and smiled, he’d never tire of hearing you call him that. Although, he certainly had plans to upgrade that title in the new year.
“Yeah, we’ll be there soon. His name? Um, that can wait, it’ll be better if I just introduce you both in person.”
“Wait, she doesn’t know you’re dating me?!” Bucky loudly whispered.
“Shhh,” you lifted your index finger to your lips. — “No, not you mom, yes I’ve got the pies. Tell dad not to worry. Okay bye.”
You looked over at Bucky sheepishly, as he stopped at a red light. He looked at you with furrowed eyebrows, “Baby, why haven’t you told your parents that we’re together?”
“I wanted it to be a surprise. You know how much they always loved you… it’s not for any bad reason.”
He huffed out a breath, “You’re not embarrassed or anything right?” he asked softly.
Only then did you realize where his apprehension was coming from. It really had been eight years, and in that time Bucky thought you felt that he was unworthy of your love. That couldn’t be further from the truth, but you had only been together for three weeks now. He needed reassurance, and that was justified.
You reached out to intertwine your fingers with his. “I couldn’t be happier to call you mine. You are the love of my life, and the guy my parents secretly wish I would end up with. I genuinely just wanted to surprise them.”
A small smile graced his lips as he looked at the light turning green. Quietly, he pulled your hand toward his lips and kissed the back of yours contentedly. “You’re the love of my life too, sweetheart,” he whispered.
You grinned and continued, “I thought you’d be like a bonus Christmas present for them. All they know is that I’m bringing home a man I’m crazy about. But once they know it’s you, well I think it’ll make their year. My mom actually mentioned you last month.”
Bucky glanced at you with raised eyebrows, “What’d she say?”
“That she ran into your mom at the grocery store and that they chatted about us. She asked me if I wanted her to call Winnie to set up a coffee date for us.”
He let out a laugh, “Should’ve said yes.”
You shook your head, “The ultimate reunion — a coffee date orchestrated by our mothers, who’d probably be hiding somewhere watching it all go down.”
He parallel parked into a spot in front of your parents house then met your gaze. “I guess fate worked things out for us all on its own.”
“It sure did, no meddling mothers necessary. Just a meddling Steve more like it.”
Bucky chuckled as he reached out to caress your cheek. “Yeah, thank goodness for him, and you for putting so much work in on my case.”
You leaned into his touch and whispered, “I had a vested interest in the outcome. Couldn’t let anything happen to you.”
He closed the distance and pressed his lips to yours. His lips caressed yours slowly, intimately, as if time didn’t exist and nothing else mattered. You were his first kiss, and he had no doubt that you would be his last.
When the need for air finally became too much, he pulled back and whispered. “I love you, sweet girl.”
You lightly stroked your thumb along his scruffy jawline, “I love you too, B.”
┈┈┈┈┈・・
As your mother opened the door her eyes widened in shock as she saw you leaning into Bucky with one hand wrapped in his, and the other holding the pies.
“James?!” she exclaimed with abandon with the brightest smile on her face.
Bucky gave your mother his most charming smile and was about to give her the beautiful bouquet, “Hi Mrs.—”
Your dad hollered back, “She brought home another guy named James?!” You heard his heavy footsteps nearing the door.
“James Barnes?!” Your father gasped as he looked at the two of you with as much surprise as your mother. Then he looked down at her, as she looked up at him — after a moment of comprehension, their faces split into the widest smiles as they started to laugh.
You and Bucky looked at each other and began to laugh at their ridiculousness.
“I guess we got our Christmas miracle,” your mom finally said, beaming at you both.
“This is the best news, darling. We couldn’t be happier to see you two together. Now c’mon in, it’s cold outside!” he and your mother stepped aside to let you two in.
“Worth the wait right?” you whispered gleefully to Bucky as you got inside.
“Worth the wait, baby.” And when he said those words he didn’t just mean waiting to tell your parents about your relationship. While you were right, and that was priceless; he meant all of it.
The way life unfolded to bring you right back to each other, and how absolutely perfect it finally was to love and be loved by you.
It was all undoubtedly worth waiting for.
