"do you remember when we'd go here after school?" 
it’s maybe a few minutes before sunset and you’re walking around your old childhood neighborhood with someone you never thought would see again this soon: chan, your old childhood friend. the streets are painted a strange tone of nostalgia; it’s like you’re walking through hazy memories, dream-like and familiar. sometimes, you’ll spot a house or a street corner that sends you back to your 13-year-old self so strongly, you feel as if you’ve shifted to the past. but then, you look to your left and you see chan, who has so obviously grown up, and you remember all the time that has passed.
he’s grown taller, of course, with broader shoulders and bigger arms. he’s lost most of his baby fat in his face—his jawline is much more apparent, as are all of the sharp angles in his features. you can almost barely recognize him. almost, because you don’t think you could ever forget the little things in chan’s appearance that make him who he is. he smiles and there's something about it that makes you ache—there’s your old best friend again, happy and smiley.

chan’s pointing to a convenience store up ahead when he asks his question. the storefront hasn't changed a bit——still displaying its ice cream cooler next to the front entrance, its 3-for-1 cough drop deal, and its blue and yellow ATM. you could find your way through the aisles in your sleep, despite the 12 years that have passed since the last time you and chan slipped in, exhausted after a long school day, and left with candy and soft drinks. sometimes, you'd spend the afternoon at the nearby park, the sun on your face and the grass under your thighs as you complained about your teachers and took turns trying to catch m&m's in your mouths. other times, you'd head straight to chan's house and play games in his living room, even staying for dinner. 
"of course, i remember," you tell him. “it hasn’t been that long.”
maybe 12 years isn’t that long. maybe it is. it feels long, that you know for sure. 
in those past 12 years, you've watched chan move to seoul and follow his dream of becoming an idol, growing more talented and more mature with each comeback photo and video that pops up on your social media. in between your busy days, you could only catch glimpses of his rapidly-evolving career and his sudden rise to stardom. with each stray kids photo you saw, the chan you knew so intimately appeared to turn more and more into a stranger. the boy from your childhood grew into a man and you weren't even there to see it.
but he returns to australia after all these years and he smiles at you and suddenly, he's the same 13-year-old who swore, pinky interlocked with yours, that he'd never stop being your best friend. he was chris again. 
and you tried. of course, you tried to keep in touch. he cried in your arms before he left for the airport and promised to call you every day. but being a trainee was busy and being an idol was busier and you had to grow up and move to college and find your own future too, so, after a while, his daily calls became weekly, then monthly, then a rarity. you learned more about his life through stray kids youtube videos than you did through his own words. and you were so happy for him, of course. but you missed him so fucking much. 
“do you remember all of our sleepovers?” you ask, praying he does. 
please remember us. please remember me. please tell me i still have a place in your life. 
he doesn’t even take a moment to think: “yes, yes i do.” he’s grinning now. “we’d basically live out of each other’s houses for a week, just: school, your house, games, dinner, sleep, wake up, school, my house, listen to music, dinner, sleep. god, that was fun.”
“remember hannah would always say—”
“that you were basically her other sibling?” chan finishes with a laugh. “yeah, i think she saw you and me together more than she saw just me alone sometimes.”
you laugh with him. “she said she couldn’t imagine anything pulling us apart.”
“yeah,” chan concedes. “i couldn’t imagine anything either.”
the both of you fall into a sudden silence that’s tinted with an awkwardness that would’ve never existed when you were both 13 and inseparable. it’s a silence of grief, mourning the past determination to stay best friends forever and never leave each other’s sides. during those sleepovers, you’d brainstorm the rest of your lives together—how you’d live in the same dorm in college, then get an apartment together, adopt a dog, and grow up side-by-side. 
was it foolish that you believed in it? was it always just wishful thinking? over those years spent apart, you’d ponder what could’ve been—what your life would look like if chan never moved. it was always bittersweet and you found yourself longing too much so you decided to stop. there’s no point in thinking about what could’ve been—it isn’t, so just focus on what is. and ‘what is’ is a life where chan lives across the ocean and you’re creating your own separate worlds. the too-harsh reality.
"god, you have no idea how much i missed this," chan admits with a sigh, looking up to the sky that was slowly turning shades of pink and orange. 
you offer a chuckle. “yeah, it’s nice to be home, i guess.”
"no, no," he begins. "well, yes—i missed my family like crazy, like you wouldn’t believe—but i’m talking about this." he gestures to the both of you. "us. i missed us."
"oh.” somehow, you weren’t expecting that. “well, someone moved away," you say with feigned accusation. 
he lets out a laugh. "i did, didn't i?” he thinks for a moment. “i don't regret it. i love my boys, i love our fans, i love what we're doing. i just…i miss you,” he says, plain and simple. “and i wish there was some way that i could've had it all. you're the one thing that's missing from my life.”
during the times you pondered what could’ve been, you always came to the conclusion that you were the only one thinking about it, that chan had forgotten you. it hurt a bit, but you thought it was the best way to see it if you wanted to move on from the past. 
but this—you're the one thing that's missing from my life. fuck. you didn’t even realize how much you had been aching to hear that chan still thinks about you. fuck, how can you move on?
"i wish you could've had it all, too. i miss you. so fucking much.”
he sighs. "and there's no way for you to somehow have the urge to relocate to seoul?"
you laugh. "i want to, believe me when i say that. but..."
he nods. "but."
"i have a life, too, you know. a job. friends. i can't just leave."
"i know, i know. i just—"
"me too." you offer a sad smile. "me too."
the sky turns pinker as the sun sets. the neighborhood grows dimmer. 
“so what now?” chan asks.
“what do you mean?”
“i miss you, you miss me, what are we supposed to do now?”
“is there anything we can do?” from the way his expression falls, you can tell he was hoping for a more optimistic answer. “we’ve spent so long cultivating these lives exclusive of each other, is there any way to weave one another into them?”
“you could move to seoul…”
“i can’t.”
“i could move back—”
“you won’t.”
“i could—”
“no, you couldn’t. and you won’t. i know you won’t and you know i won’t let you.”
“i know.” he sighs. “i know.”
“i think this is all we can have.”
“this?”
“this—you and me, coincidentally back home at the same time for a few days, reminiscing for a bit, then parting ways again.”
he nods, reluctantly agreeing because it’s true, as unfortunate as it is. “for now,” he adds optimistically. “maybe, one day, we can figure it out.”
“maybe,” you say, not thinking you’d believe it. but as you say it, maybe foolishly, you find a little hope. 
“i’ll take it. i’ll take what i can have. i’ll have this, for now.”
he offers a smile and who are you to not give him one back?

Jounouchi was quiet. Eerily so.
The only time that Kaiba had seen the deadbeat this silent, this still was when his breathing stopped after Ra struck him. But Jounouchi remained upright, rigid as stone, his eyes wide open but distant and glazed.
The expression reminded Kaiba of another incident, the one at the docks involving chains, bombs, a hostage with a cyanide pill clenched between her teeth, and supposed mind control.
Kaiba shifted, once again becoming aware of the heavy weight within his white-knuckled grip. The Millennium Rod, that was what Yugi called it. It was the very same trinket Malik had carried through the Battle City finals.
All Kaiba knew was it was an eyesore, just like the gaudy piece his rival perpetually wore around his neck. Kaiba wanted nothing to do with it. He would've been content to continue to ignore its existence if it didn't keep turning up among his belongings like a bad penny.
He was anything but amused to open his office drawer and find it sitting inside. He returned it that same evening, threatening Yugi over the unfunny prank. The second time that it turned up inside his briefcase, he walked out five minutes before his next meeting, went down to the Turtle Game Store, and basically chucked the Rod at Yugi's head. And the third time, after appearing on his bedside table after an uneasy night of tossing and turning, Kaiba was ready to commit murder.
Yugi claimed no responsibility for one second, before switching gears and babbling some nonsense about destiny and past lives. And whatever Kaiba might think of Yugi's delusions, he never took his rival for a liar. So Kaiba held onto it, reluctantly, and shoved it deep into a desk drawer to bury it.
At least it stopped actively haunting him afterward.
But his troubles didn't end there. No. More turned up in his office one early morning, as the sun barely peeked over the horizon to herald a new day. Kaiba had been driven from his bed by vague and amorphous dreams he couldn't put a name to, only to discover an intruder rummaging through his things.
"What are you doing here?" growled Kaiba, slamming the door behind him.
Swearing, Jounouchi jumped, swearing as he spun to face him. Of course, he was a shitty thief on top of being a third-rate duelist. Nor should it surprise Kaiba when he bared his teeth without a hint of shame and snarled, "Helping Yugi get back what's his!"
With that bold declaration, he yanked his hand out of Kaiba's drawer and hefted the Millennium Rod into the air.
"You think I want that miserable trinket?" hissed Kaiba. His head pulsed. From a migraine. From sleep deprivation. From a gradually building rage. "I was this close to stapling it to his forehead so it can't leave him like that stupid Puzzle he wears."
Jounouchi's eyes narrowed. "You're lying. Yugi might believe you, but I know better. You stole it!"
Stole—as if Kaiba ever needed to stoop that low. Kaiba wanted nothing more than to be rid of the nuisance—both the Rod and Jounouchi. But he'd be damned if he overlooked Jounouchi's trespassing.
"That's rich. Considering you're the one caught stealing red-handed. I'm calling the police. We'll see who they believe."
He crossed the room in a few long strides. He reached directly for the phone on his desk.
"Stop!" exclaimed Jounouchi.
Perhaps the fear of law enforcement sent him into a blind panic, because he took a swing at Kaiba with the Rod.
Kaiba caught it with his hand. The sharp blades protruding from the specter's head dug into his palm, threatening to break skin. Did Jounouchi know about the blade hidden within the shaft? Was that what he'd try for next?
Pain bloomed in his head and radiated down the arm holding the rounded end of the Rod.
"Let go!" he roared.
The deadbeat dropped it like it was hot coal. "What the hell?"
Kaiba felt it too. Underneath the pain, an electric sensation zipped through him, scorching his nerve endings. It was neither pain nor pleasure.
"Shit, did you do that?" asked Jounouchi. "Can you use—"
"Shut up," ordered Kaiba.
Miraculously, Jounouchi did. His mouth immediately snapped shut with an audible click. He opened his mouth to try again.
Kaiba denied him. "Not another word out of you."
Jounouchi choked while his throat convulsed, trying to spit words without success. His eyes darted wildly, terror growing in their amber depths as they frantically searched Kaiba's face.
Jounouchi didn't fear him. He despised Kaiba. He insulted him. On nauseating occasions, Jounouchi even pitied him. But he had never been afraid of Kaiba.
Until now.
A heady rush shot to Kaiba's hind-brain. Suddenly, he understood why people took drugs.
"Here, I thought nothing would ever stop your yapping," he laughed. "This just proves what you need is a shock collar."
Rage blanketed Jounouchi's face. Since he could no longer express it verbally, he resorted to other means. Somehow, Kaiba already knew his intentions before he moved a single muscle. And he put an end to it just as swiftly with one command.
"Stop."
Stop moving. Stop fighting. Stop defying Kaiba.
Jounouchi froze. His defiance drained like blood from a slaughtered cow. His expression slackened, eyebrows unfurling and lips going loose. His eyes went as blank as his face.
Captivated, Kaiba had stared at him ever since. At first, he wondered if this was the payoff for an extended prank. To trick him into believing the Rod's power and that he could wield it. But as the minutes ticked on, Jounouchi stayed rooted to his spot without an errant twitch of his muscles, breathing slowly but steadily as if in a trance.
Kaiba was so clear-headed. His headache had receded. What remained behind was a deep-rooted instinct, the knowledge to bend Jounouchi's will to his whim.
Speaking out loud wasn't necessary. But it gave him a rush to issue the command verbally. "Down."
Gracefully, Jounouchi dropped to his knees. A pulse of something other than power rushed through Kaiba's veins.
"Look at me," he said as his breath grew ragged.
Jounouchi obediently tilted his face up. He held it at the perfect angle so that the sun's rays streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows highlighted his bleached locks, brown eyes, and his full lips.
He was quiet, and the storm raging inside Kaiba's head for the last weeks dissipated too.
Without releasing the Rod, Kaiba cupped Jounouchi's jaw, feeling the faint scruff of a hasty shave job. Jounouchi didn't fight him or try to throw off his touch. But he didn't lean into it either. He was no different than a doll, and dolls didn't react. Kaiba pressed his thumb to the corner of Jounouchi's mouth, squeezing until it parted. Jounouchi's wet tongue grazed against his finger pad, warm but still.
He wanted him to suck. This time, Kaiba didn't have to speak aloud before he felt the answering wet suction. Jounouchi's lips closed tightly around his thumb, his cheeks hollowing as he obeyed.
Docile was an unexpectedly good look on Jounouchi. If nothing else, it was a rarity that few people saw.
Before he knew it, his hand had settled over his fly. His groin throbbed with every hard suck of Jounouchi's mouth. The rhythm was as regular and mechanical as a toy, no stuttering and no mistakes.
It was perfect.
Kaiba could have this and more—his heart's secret desire that not he even wanted to admit to. The forbidden fruit was within his reach. His sins were innumerable. His ledger ran red. So what was one more?

“YOU COULD’VE JUST TELL ME IF YOU WANTED US TO BREAK UP!” You yelled with your phone swinging right at Heston’s way, luckily he ducked right on time for it to hit the wall instead of his face.
The fight has been going on for 15 minutes and you finally let out the big urged you wanted to let out of your chest.
He glared at you, anger clearly shown in his eyes but he remained calm, mannered though his fingernails felt like they were piercing right through the skin of his fists.
“YOU COULD’VE TOLD ME. You could’ve called.. and-“
“My phone is dead. Coach kept us for practice til late because we’ve got to win the next game. I went straight to you after he dismissed us. Will you please calm down and listen.” He said sternly, cutting you off.
“Which part of me, that you assumed went missing, went off to dumping you? I don’t get it.” Heston shook his head in disbelief.
You sighed, hot tears streaming down your face as you put your palm on your forehead, looking everywhere but the pair of eyes preying your every move, trying to catch on what will come out of her lips next.
“You could’ve texted me about it first..” you whispered.
“I would’ve told you if my phone’s battery didn’t run out…” Heston sighed, trying to ease the heated atmosphere down.
“I would’ve told you if coach wasn’t yelling at our faces that we needed to do better so we could win the upcoming game. I couldn’t even glance at my drink babe, you know how coach is, and you knew about the game.. what happened?”
He walked slowly towards his girlfriend. He understood why you’re swinging in this mood, every student in the campus are as busy and occupied by so many things to be productive about, including him and yourself, finals are near anyway.
You looked up at him, your fingernails being unconsciously bitten down. Shit, you thought to yourself. Oh there you were again, it was clearly your head playing games on you, persuasively leading you to believe that you’re not enough for him, maybe you’re not worth to be loved.
This is Heston Heath van Lennartz. The captain of the school’s football team. Your bestfriend. Every other girls’ dream-come-true. Why you?
Heston stopped his steps right in front of his girlfriend. The top of your head right at the bottom of his chin. He smiled to himself, knowing damn well what gotten into you. She needs constant reassurance and I would give her the world for her to understand why I chose her, we’ve come this far, she’s my bestfriend and I’ve loved her since the first day, I’m not going to stop now, he said to himself.
“Baby,” He started. Bending down to scan your embarrassed and sad face. He pulled your chin up slowly so you would finally look at him. Your eyes teary. “Can we make up now, please?”
He spread his arms open so he could embrace you into his arms slowly, before attempting to change the topic “have you had your meal?”
“I’m sorry i shouldn’t have yelled at you.. i lost it, i- no one knew where you were somehow, and i freaked out, i thought something else happened.” You cried into his chest, your fingers crumpling his shirt, holding him near you as if he wasn’t close enough.
Heston nodded “I’m sorry too for making you worry, I should’ve informed you in the morning.” The lengths of his arms around your waist tightened, making you shift your balance in between his long limbs. You sighed and nodded. Heston chuckled, knowing the very look that is plastered on your face right now, glancing down at the top of your head before teasing you, “did you miss me?”
“No.” You shook your head instantly, already knowing what your boyfriend is up to.
“You just don’t ever want to lose me, don’t you?”
You shook your head again. This time, he shifted his balance.
“No?! As in no i’m wrong and you’d want to lose me or-“
You pulled away from the hug to look him in the eye and confessed “No. I don’t want to lose you, like ever.”
He looked at you with a slight pout on his bottom lip, maybe asking for a small peck, but was then rejected when you continued. “I’ve been loving you for quiet some time…” you whispered and snuggled yourself again, resting your head on the crook of his neck to feel more of his warm, “please stay. Stay forever.”
Heston smiled and kissed the top of your head, “I will, sweetheart.”

Where in the World is the Kindgom of Hyrule?  PART ONE
Alright buckle up, friends—this one’s gonna get absolutely, utterly, wildly out of hand very quickly.
 Section One: The Dream
So recently, someone made the mistake of teaching me how to navigate celestially and we were talking about all the differences between how the sky behaves in the northern and southern hemispheres and I, proudly having absolutely nothing inside of my brain except for LinkedUniverse for almost two and a half years now, thought to myself: hey! Wouldn’t it be funny if one of the LU boys was from the southern hemisphere and all the others had never left the northern hemisphere? The first boy to pop into my head for this was Wind because he, being a sailor, would almost definitely have the best grasp on celestial out of the whole gang and that way he could use a bunch of nautical navigation terms when he freaks out and nobody would have any idea what he’s saying.
I mean, imagine, right, he gets to another Hyrule and he’s got this navigation stuff down pat and while you could do celestial navigation without knowing the earth is round (as far as I can tell, we have no indication the Mayans or Polynesians knew the earth was round, but they were epic celestial navigators), knowing the earth is round is really very handy and we’ve known the darned thing’s circumference for literal millennia. So, since Wind clearly has latitude and longitude lines on his map and those are defined by angles around the earth’s curvature (none of those lines are curved though, so smh my head Wind uses the Mercator projection (to be fair, most navigators do, too, because it makes drawing rhumb lines really easy, but I digress)), homeboy knows the earth is round. And also, I mean, have you seen the Wii U box art?

Anyway, my point is that a southern hemisphere Wind would know that a northern hemisphere exists he and could totally logically deduce how stuff would behave there, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t freak him the FRICK out, especially before he fully figured out what was going on, because supposedly, he’s still in Hyrule, just an earlier one, and he was right above Hyrule, so how the heck could this be in a different hemisphere?
It was at this point that I realized why my fun little idea wouldn’t work—they’re all from Hyrule. It’s the same place, just at different times, and so, if the Kingdom of Hyrule has any internal logic or consistency, it’s all just gonna be the same place so my silly joke wouldn’t make sense.
But then, I realized, the Kingdom of Hyrule doesn’t have any internal logic or consistency! Not only does the map’s basic geography change quite dramatically between games, but it’s full of locations that are quite explicitly meant to be the same ones from prior games, yet their relative positions to each other vary wildly (believe me, we are going to get to this).
Fortunately, we know a truly, insanely, staggeringly massive amount of time has passed between games. I mean, Wild’s Hyrule has lore that, ten thousand years ago, Calamity Ganon got yeeted by tech we don’t even remotely recognize from any of the earlier games, meaning all the other eras are far older than that. For context, 10,000 years from today humans were just starting to figure out how farming worked. If Nintendo is going to casually throw a ten thousand year long timeskip into their silly little timeline, then maybe we can account for all this wacky location shifting with some clever geographical wrangling. I mean, the kingdom of Hyrule is and always has been a big hot mess and if magic exists, ten thousand years is an acceptable amount of time to toss around between games, and *stares pointedly at Tears of the Kingdom trailers* then maybe we can reconcile all of this.
 Section Two: The Little Adventure
I really like that phrase, “little adventure.” I’ve started using it whenever something mundane goes wrong or unexpectedly somehow, like “I’m going to have to walk a whole mile to get back home and it’s raining and I forgot my umbrella? Welp, guess it’s time for a little adventure!”
Yeah, that’s an apt phrase to use here, I think.
Because, like, okay, I know 10k years is like no time at all, geologically, so mountain ranges aren’t popping up and scooting away willy nilly, but we’ve gotta account for canon-typical shenaniganery. So generally, we have Hyrule castle in the middle, a volcanoes somewhere up, a sand somewhere left, and a woods somewhere right (I refrain from using such terms as north, east, south, and west because while the maps all have little compass roses on them and there are compasses in the games, magnetic-true variation is a very big deal, the magnetic poles wiggle around and even fully reverse sometimes, and I have my reservations about trusting Hyrule’s royal cartographers too much. Very soon, you will too). Because even that basic outline of Hyrule is subject to change. Take Twilight Princess, for example. Even if you use the GameCube version, where Gerudo Desert is to the left of the castle, like it should be, Death Mountain is to the right of the castle, not up. Since the forest is straight down, though, we could just be like “oh lol whoops guess the magnetic pole took a hike, let’s just rotate the map an entire forty-five degrees because the Kingdom of Hyrule decides to make all of its maps using magnetic north for some unholy reason.” And I mean, that’s fair game, right? Sure.
This strategy doesn’t hold up for very long.
I mean, I’m looking at broad trends here, right. I’m already assuming nothing is drawn to scale (and they clearly aren’t to scale even when the maps are literally rips of the world like for Legend’s games because I refuse to believe that Hyrule Castle and Kakariko village account for one-quarter of Hyrule’s land area). We’ve all seen those ridiculously inaccurate old maps from ages ago in our own history—there’s a lot of room for error here. I’m already assuming every distance and position and landform is an artistic abstraction and I’m also generously overcompensating for hardware limitations and the fact that Nintendo did not know they were going to try and connect all of these games decades later and was just focused on making fun, interesting, stand-alone adventures. You can keep building your one town in different locations with completely different architectural styles but give it the same name every time just to be cute. You can rebuild your castle regularly in all sorts of different spots without leaving any trace of the original. The Lost Woods can just grow legs and run around wherever they want to because the whole point of the Lost Woods is that the rules of space and object permanence don’t apply to them. We can throw around ten thousand years like it’s nothing. I’m trying to be as charitable as humanly possible. I literally do not care about the minutiae I literally just want the barest, vaguest outline of what the heck this landmass is doing on only the broadest of scales. I want this to work. I’m ignoring virtually everything about the terrain at this point, only using the locations that are canonically the same ones as from other games and allowing for incredible amounts of drift in where these things physically are.
But like—Breath of the Wild insisted on being cute and having that statue of Hylia that ended up in the Sealed Grounds in Skyward Sword be buried in the Forgotten Temple. Nice! Why is it in the top-left corner of the map?! What’s that, Hyrule just expanded out in a different direction and most of Skyward Sword takes place farther to the left than this map shows? Cute, but the Sacred Springs, clearly designed specifically to be the same ones from Skyward Sword, are all along the right side of the map! Like, sure, maybe the Skyview Spring being the Spring of Courage in Faron Woods all checks out and the second spring is in Eldin and Akkala is pretty close to Eldin, so fine, Spring of Power gets a free pass. And, again, we can fudge stuff—Skyward Sword’s map is for artistic purposes, not navigation, so maybe it’s only vaguely accurate. There’s some nebulous unmapped space between Faron and Eldin and we can just… assume there’s mountains there and that whatever pre-Skyward Sword civilization was kicking around building these things tossed a spring up there and Zelda just ~didn’t have to go there~ to get her Goddess powers back because we never saw the Spring of Wisdom in Skyward Sword. Fine.
Maybe the massive Goddess Statue and Sealed-Grounds-looking temple up in Tabantha are just a different temple in a similar style. Fine, okay, and Breath of the Wild and Skyward Sword are the most incomprehensively far apart of any of these games—clearly the only reason the springs survived this long was the fact that they’re sacred.
[Digression time! It’s time for a little adventure where I ramble about the Sacred Springs! It’s not really relevant, but it sure is neat!]
Because if the same springs are in both Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild, that then implies that they were lurking around in every other era but, acknowledging real life chronology issues, obviously these springs weren’t in the previous games. If we’re willing to ignore cold hard canon to pretend this is a world that really exists, though, which is way more fun, then those springs should still exist and that would be a really fun thing to have the boys stumble upon! Just in case any enterprising fic authors were looking for neat ideas I can tell you where they are, but where they all fall depends on how you decide to line up the maps. As previously established, there’s buckets of drift and inaccuracy, and I’ll get into my own mega-compilation-map after this digression is over, but if you want to just vibe and just stick to the general area and biome (like Nintendo themselves) here’s how you do it:
Courage goes in any forest in the bottom or right, power goes in any hot mountain at the top or the right, and the center of the rightmost part of a Zelda map—the part between the volcano and the forest—is always either unmapped somehow or contains at least one significant area of higher elevation, so just slap the Spring of Wisdom there. It even works for Minish Cap! If you wanna play really fast and loose with exact locations of things and the border of the kingdom and also completely ignore the castle, as I’ve been doing, Minish Cap’s map is just the righthand side of Hyrule rotated like forty-five degrees. Hot mountain up, water to the right, green in the middle and the bottom right. Works out nicely with Skyward Sword to have Lake Hylia there in the forest on the right instead of at the center bottom, and Veil Falls and the Cloud Tops could fall right in that unmapped space between Eldin and Faron, so that’s totally a valid spot to put the Spring of Widsom. (there’s actually a lot of unmapped space in Zelda games once you start looking for it and having fics take place in those areas where the boys can then stumble upon relics of older eras would actually be so badass I’d actually love to see that happen in fics).
For Ocarina of Time, the Spring of Courage would be in the Kokiri Forest or Lost Woods, up to you, Power goes up on Death Mountain, and Wisdom’s in Zora’s River/Domain. For Wind Waker, you can put Courage in the Forest Haven, Power in either Dragon Roost or Fire Mountain, and Wisdom can go on any island between the two or just end up underwater for a hot minute (it’s not like that’s gonna ruin it—it’s supposed to be wet). For aLttP/ALBW, Courage goes down by Lake Hylia, Power’s up on Death Mountain again, and if you don’t want to use Zora’s Domain, we can retcon that the Spring of Wisdom wasn’t in Zora’s Domain in Time’s era, it was in that little unmapped sliver between Zora’s Domain and the foresty area, so now we can slap the spring of Wisdom somewhere around or just past the right side of the Eastern Palace/Eastern Ruins. Isn’t this fun? For Twilight Princess, we already have sacred springs, but these are different ones—by now it’s probably been a few geological epochs since Skyward Sword, so they’re allowed to make some new springs. The old ones still have to be kicking around, though, and Twilight Princess’ map has a delightful amount of uncharted territory so we can toss them in Faron, Eldin, and that mysterious space directly between the two of them.
[Okay, digression over!]
I mean, this is fun, and if the vague suggestion of similar biomes is all we needed to line up all these maps into one cohesive Hyrule, that would be great. But it’s not. There are a few locations that absolutely must line up across games, and they ruin everything. Like, okay, I’m going to start sounding completely feral with rage, but I’m not actually mad at Nintendo. They’re making good games and I’m trying to do something very silly to their games and I knew it wouldn’t work out before I even started. I’m just so incredibly theatrically frustrated by how close it is to actually working until some random detail gets thrown in and it’s always exactly the one thing that would break everything.

Let’s start with some neat ones that do kind of work, though. Positivity! We know that, in Wind Waker, Hyrule Castle and the Deku Tree are the same ones as in Ocarina of Time. If we overlay the maps so these two points line up, we see that Wind Waker is so much bigger than Ocarina of Time and I love that. The ocean should be huge, way bigger than the kingdom, and that means we can end up playing with some navigational stuff, it’s just that Wind won’t be the one freaking out, everyone else will be, because if they go to the right spot in his era, they’ll be dealing with weird latitudes they’re not used to (yeah, remember when this essay was about celestial navigation? Me neither). The only problem here is that to get them to line up, you have to rotate them. So yeah, magnetic north can just trek forty-five degrees to the right and everyone will ignore this fact and continue to make maps in magnetic north for some reason. This is fine.
Honestly, the most consistent feature of Hyrule is the volcanic hotspot. There’s always one there, it’s almost always in a comparable spot, and unlike deserts, which can totally change over pretty short periods of time, hotspots are very reliable and locationally stable irl. I mean, even as the continental plates shift, the hotspot doesn’t. That’s why Hawai’i is shaped the way it is—the hotspot sprouts a volcano, the plates move, it sprouts another, rinse and repeat until you’ve drawn a little line of lava across the ocean. So if we line up all the volcanic areas over the Hylian Hot Spot and do only the minimal amount of rotation necessary to get everything else to roughly align, we can draw some cool connections.

For example, we established how Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time’s Hyrules align. But then in Wind Waker there’s a side quest where you plant a bunch of new Deku sprouts to help spread the forest. If we line up the volcanic hotspots between Breath of the Wild’s map and Wind Waker’s, we can scoot and pivot around and match up all the seedlings to see which one most likely started the line that Breath of the Wild’s Deku Tree comes from (because again, ten thousand years). It’s the Deku Sprout on Eastern Fairy Island! That… actually works out shockingly well. North is the same between Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild and even Hyrule castle is in the right spot! I also love how Breath of the Wild’s world is only a little bigger than Ocarina of Time’s and Wind Waker dwarfs the both of them—that’s absolutely correct; you cover so much more ground sailing than on foot. Why the magnetic pole shifted more in the few centuries between Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker (so much of Old Hyrule is still alive so I refuse to believe it’s been more than a thousand years between the two of them) than it did in the canonical OVER TEN THOUSAND YEARS between Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild baffles me, but hey, maybe the magnetic pole yeeting across the earth’s surface is a side-effect of Ganon taking power, however briefly. But wait, then shouldn’t it have shifted again in Breath of the Wild, since he won for a minute there? Augh whatever.
Okay, you may be wondering why I’m making such a fuss about where north is on these maps. After all, directions are relative and constructs and it was convention to put south at the tops of maps for a lot of people at different times and places. Yes, that’s all correct and I really wouldn’t have the slightest problem with any which orientation if they didn’t say north ON THE MAP!! And locations have names like “east” and “west” and they’ll say “go south of—” and these are not abstractions! North means closer to one of the axes around which the earth turns, around which the stars and sun and planets revolve. Moving up and down along a given line between these two poles means you’re on a given line of longitude so the sun always reaches its highest point at the same time, east and west mean along lines of constant latitude, where the sun’s highest point on any given day is the same—these directions are not arbitrarily defined!! You can’t just decide to put north somewhere else! You can have true north (the direction to the geographic north pole, the place where all lines of longitude converge and the sun goes around the horizon in a circle on the equinoxes, making a 24 hour sunset, and the pole star stands still overhead) and magnetic north (the place where magnetic compasses point, which is different than true north and moves kind of a surprising amount, but is only really relevant because compasses point there and also the auroras are centered on them too, which is cool), and that’s it! Those are the norths!! Don’t make up new norths!!!
And I said magnetic north moves, and it does, like 25 miles a year, and if we’re dealing with the timescale of thousands of years, that’s gonna add up.
SO WHY ARE YOU MAKING YOUR MAPS USING MAGNETIC NORTH?! NOBODY USES MAGNETIC NORTH TO DRAW MAPS—magnetic north, as previously established, moves a lot and you don’t want to have to redraw all your maps every year! Why would you do that instead of using the permanent geographical constant that’s easier to calculate because you can use the definite motion of the stars that can be measured to a fraction of a minute (up to a half mile of accuracy anywhere in the globe!) and not a wibbly, imprecise compass needle that’s only ever accurate to about half a degree—which translates to thirty nautical miles when you start trying to figure out where you are with it (nautical miles are bigger than normal miles).
But anyway. Hylian royal cartographers clearly have no idea what they’re doing.
And this is when things start making even less sense.
Because why, why on earth do the two eras who are the most insistent on being canonical neighbors have the least compatible maps?! Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess want me dead in a ditch. The Temple of Time in Twilight Princess goes to great lengths to Be The One From Ocarina of Time. Great! Why the frick is it at the bottom of the map?! The Temple of Time couldn’t be any farther up on Ocarina of Time’s map. We could try just rotating the map because maybe it was that time of the geological epoch and the magnetic poles reversed, but now the desert’s on the right side and it’s always on the left side! If anything, the right side is either mountains or ocean! Definitely not a desert. Not allowed. But what if we used the other version of Twilight Princess’ map—the mirror image flippy one from the Wii version!!! Because this makes sense!!!—and pretend the magnetic pole just happened to invert between these two games and that Hyrule’s cartography division is smoking crack and convinced that orienting all your maps towards magnetic north with no indication that true north even exists is the best way of doing things. Fine. Now Kokiri forest ends up in either Zora’s Domain or Snowpeak and the Hidden Village, which is supposedly the Kakariko from Ocarina of Time, turns out to have once been Zora’s Domain.
And that’s not even the worst offender! I’m already ignoring the frick out of the Four Swords games, but the first two Zelda games?
Like, look, I know I said I was giving a pass for hardware limitations and the irl game chronology but come on—it’s the same guy, it’s the same kingdom, and you didn’t even try to make them match up! Like maybe Zelda 1 can be given a pass because it has that same basic scaffold of mountain up, desert left, forest right, but then Zelda 2’s map is just the biggest pile of mayhem and I wouldn’t be bothered if it wasn’t explicitly the same kingdom just a little while later! Like what?! And there’s no way to reconcile any of this even remotely with that volcanic hotspot location, which has been our one and only constant in this labyrinthine hellscape!
Look, guys, I tried. I tried to come up with a way to make any of this remotely make sense.
This was about how far I’d gotten before realizing I might not be using the right approach, here.

Because the whole point of this silly project is to make celestial navigation jokes! Maybe the Kingdom of Hyrule is on the back of a big massive turtle that crawls all around the world and bumps into other turtles sometimes! It doesn’t actually matter! What matters is how the sky behaves.
So why don’t we just do celestial navigation and see if we can’t figure out what latitudes these absolutely zooted turtles are at.
 But this post is long enough and also I haven’t finished collecting all my data from the various 3D zelda games so i’ll see you all in part two! (don’t hold your breath)

It was your turn to pick a game. Rather than anything 'typical' you pulled a game you hadn't played in a long while. A nice game of Twister, innocent enough... or so you thought. The little plastic spinner seemed determined to have you and your lover grinding against each other in the best-worst ways.
Klaus
Klaus was fully aware of how you two were currently positioned. Every fiber of his being was aware that you were wobbling due to how far apart your legs were at the moment... and Klaus was trying so hard not to stare.
What didn't help was the fact that the closest yellow dot for his left foot to go to was between your legs. He didn't have much choice.
Well, he did. Technically speaking he could forfeit. But you had asked him not to. You practically begged him for a fair game till one of you actually fell over. So no, Klaus didn't have a choice except to ease his foot between your legs.
"Well hello there sir." You were honestly surprised at how bold a move Klaus was pulling, considering you were now basically sitting on his leg, "Can I help you?"
Hanging his head to hide his blushing face, Klaus remained silent. Instead, he reached for the little demon spinner for your turn to move.

Steven
"You're gonna lose you know." "Oh c'mon, Steven. We haven't even touched the board yet." "I have longer legs." "And?"
He knew this was bound to happen. Steven lowkey rejoiced and lamented letting you pick this game. On the one hand, it was fun tormenting you by being so tangled together. Accidental touches was a decent strategy for winning in this particular game.
On the other hand, Steven was also affected by the mounting tension as the two of you twisting around one another like this. Every time his elbow brushed against your chest, every shift pressing more clothed skin, every time he felt like you were about to collapse...
Steven couldn't help but picture you two reenacting game night in the bedroom. Without clothes of course.

Leo
"Are... are you sure about this [Name]?"
"Yeah! It'll be fun." Leo was broken by your cheerful smile, "Unless you're afraid you're gonna lose."
A tiny, strained groan escaped Leo. His mind racing a mile a minute, thinking fifty-three moves ahead when the two of you would be struggling to move because somehow you both ended up tied together like a pretzel. While he didn't dislike the idea, Leo would be lying if he said he wasn't flustered to hell and back over it.
And he was right. Though, it took a lot less time for his nerves to cause him to fall over. And with you falling on top of him, Leo couldn't be more embarrassed about the situation. Especially with you giggling like that.

Zapp
You couldn't help but think Zapp had been a little too enthusiastic to play Twister with you, but competitive spirit was a b^tch sometimes. And backing down wasn't your strong suit.
Though Zapp did want to win, and thought that grinding against you would make you lose balance quicker. But he failed, miserably. At least in the sense of trying to knock you over, he still felt like he was winning. Whether it was because he could be all over you, or his own confidence in his flexibility, Zapp thought he would win for sure.
"So, ready to give up yet sexy?"
"In your dreams Renfro."
"I mean, we're pretty much tied up." Zapp huffed as he stretched from a blue dot to a green, "Only a few layers of clothes between us and a really fun night."
"You think so?" Christ it was getting harder to keep from slipping, the sweat and effort of holding yourself up was starting to get to you, "The way you've been cheating this whole time I figured you were trying to strip me."
"That isn't exactly off the table your sexiness." Zapp smirked as best he could, he would never admit it, but this was starting to get to him too, "And it isn't cheating. It's my own kind of strategy."
"Yeah ri-i-I-IGHT!"

Zed
Maybe being up for anything was a bit of a mistake. Zed was so very flustered and the game mat hadn't even been set up yet. He knew this would end in him gurgling apologies for invading personal space. At least, that was the basics of what he could apologize for... there would be a lot.
Even if it was expected, Zed would still feel bad about it. He didn't like the notion that he would make you uncomfortable at all. Then again... you were telling him that it was okay ahead of time. This would be a very interesting night for the poor fish-man.
And he was absolutely right! The way the two of you were twisted around one another was almost as close as the two of you got intimately. Zed couldn't stop himself from blurting apologies for brushing against your chest and rear, he couldn't help but want to give up prematurely. It was all just a little too much feeling for him.
Especially given how your shirt and shorts were riding up and sliding down with the weird angles. Meaning that skin to skin contact was inevitable. It didn't help in the slightest with how attracted to you Zed was on an average basis. How much physical contact effected him. How much it aroused him.
This was supposed to be an innocent game between lovers, but Zed was in a hyperdrive state. Far too focused on everything happening to be able to play properly anymore.

So I’ve been debating back and forth whether or not to do this because I knew it was gonna be a lot of work. But you know what? Screw it!
Here’s a cohesive list and description of all, 2+ hours (I think…), of my KH (mostly KHUX) animation ideas

Let’s start off with my…
Pre-UX Finale Ideas
These ideas tend to be a bit outside of cannon/outdated now but they still haunt me when the song comes on
This is also the most you will get of any non-UX character lol
Song: Ready as I’ll Ever Be
Character(s)/Game Focus: KH 1 (endgame)
Description: Varian’s sections are Riku pre possession (first part when he steals ‘Sora’s’ keyblade, last part him getting possessed by Ansem). Cassandra’s sections and the “I’ll save my home and family” is the Radiant Garden Restoration Committee doing things to help (what I presume they were doing before they just kinda, show up at Hollow Bastion), and Rapunzel and her dad’s(??) sections as well as the “prove they can trust me” are Sora and the Beast.
This idea is primarily lip sync and not really specific scenes. More so just a point in time

Do I plan on actually making it some day?: Yes, as an animatic (I don’t think my description did it much justice since it really is mostly lip sync, but there’s very vivid images of it in my mind)
Song: Meet Me in the Woods
Character(s)/Game Focus: Lea/Axel
Description: An animation depicting Lea/Axel’s life starting with him and Isa finding Subject X (the “journey to the unknown”). “The darkness getting ahold of them” is referring becoming Ansem’s apprentices and their eventual initiation into the Organization because of it. The music between verses is the early days of them in the Organization then shifts to Roxas’ early days there. “How long baby have I been away” is post-Castle Oblivion. The first chorus is the Sea Salt Trio kinda becoming a trio. “Yeah the truth is stranger than my own worst dreams” is him learning about Xion being a replica. Then right after is everything falling apart for the trio. The second chorus going into the wind down is Axel/Lea’s redemption and KH3 stuff (keyblade war too before it starts to slow down). Then at the end when it really slows down is the Sea Salt Trio’s reunion.

Song: Unravel
Character(s)/Game Focus: Heart Hotel/Sortas (Sora, Ven, Roxas, Xion, Vanitas)
Description: First section is UX Ven. Post first drop to "that is where I'll live on" is Xion (just her story in Days). The section ends with her dying then switches to Roxas after her death for the 'angry part' (fighting Riku) then when the music chills out a bit he returns to Sora. Then when its the instrumental of the chorus we start Vanitas' section/BBS Ventus' section. The "breakable, unbreakable" back and forth is basically their talk before their big fight in Ven's heart, which starts at the "I won't let you contaminate me!" (from Ven) but the scene cuts before they start to fight. The next part is Sora in DDD. The part where they're repeating "Don't forget me" is when Riku is in Sora's heart talking to each Sorta (and Vanitas is there too I guess). Order is the same as in the game with Vani in there somewhere (unless Xion isn't last, she needs to be the last one). The part where they repeat the first line is the scene in KH3 where its 'revealed' Sora has other hearts withing him.

Song: Don’t Make Me
Character(s)/Game Focus: Lauriam
Description: This one is definitely outdated. Like it pre-dates the update where Lauriam actually finds out that the NULs know his sister is dead (the script obviously has been updated since then but I think the fact that it is that old still kinda shows). But yeah Don’t Make Me is basically Lauriam slowly becoming more suspicious of everyone and really really hoping none of them had anything to do with his sister’s disappearance. Because if they were he might just end up being a villain in their story. Again really old, so my interpretation of events were kinda off since I hadn’t seen all the cutscenes a bajillion times, but I think it’d make a fun AU.

Description: Patience is the game for this one. The idea is incomplete until Riku finds Sora but here’s my thoughts so far. Before the first chorus it’s a bunch of events from Sora’s story leading up to Riku’s sacrifice. The sacrifice is then the chorus (“cold, cold feet”, is Riku stepping forward etc etc). The drop is Sora reviving everyone and resetting the timeline and stuff and the rest of KH3 if there’s enough room. The “wherever you are I wish you well” to “they’re not ringing for me” is Riku being angsty about Sora’s disappearance, looking for him and stuff. The “couldn’t do a thing to make you stay” to “one hell of a story” is Kairi being angsty about it. The pre-chorus is the stuff with the Fairy Godmother and the Final World in MelMem and there’s the cut off. The rest I just gotta wait for I guess lol

Description: Basically just the scene where Ven walks in on Lauriam attacking Brain and decides it’s a good time to confess to murder. The first two lines are just Ven lip syncing. Then Lauriam attacks for the next line two lines. Darkness leaves Ventus on “caught up in a grip when we where us”. “Fingers in a fist like you might run” is Lauriam tightening his fist around his Keyblade. And the last three lines are a shot of Darkness, and shot of the NULs, and then a shot of the two standing across from each other.

The second chorus is her going back and fighting Roxas. The post chorus is her dying and returning to Sora. And the rest of the song is post KH3, just hanging out with her pals (and Isa lol).

For the former the character to the side of the text 'speaking' changes each time and the later the location Ven ends up is different each time. Everything post "it's funny how the warning signs can feel like they're butterflies" is BBS' final battle.

Description: I think this song fits so well with KHUX, I like lost my mind when I made the connection. Like that whole first verse? So on the nose it hurts. The first verse, pre-chorus and chorus would focus specifically on UX, with the first verse being Ava talking about/to Ephemer, then it following Ephemer through the events of Union X. The next verse is Subject X (Skuld) having vague memories of UX. Then next the pre-chorus and chorus follows Ven through BBS. The following pre-chorus and chorus are Marluxia. And the last “pre-chorus” is Brain in Scala (I originally thought he was the founder so my original idea kinda holds up).

Bragi uses advanced tactics to try and get Xehanort to admit it. And when Xehanort denies it Eraqus comes in. Also the part where Urd says “Metro, hetero, jerk” I like to imagine she’s gesturing aggressively towards Bragi, who is just staring at her confused like “I’m not even straight??” (Urd has no gaydar, fight me lol).

Less Brain centric than you’d think but I’m making this a separate section because of the way they’re scripted and the ideas behind them. I got much more lax about how the scripts look and started think more about Ephemer and Brain’s futures.
So basically a lot of “I miss my friends” kind of angst
It’s also after I started reading Dandelion Seeds so there’s definitely inspiration from that in here too

Description: Ephemer after using the Lifeboat writing letters for the other Union Leaders. Each "different section of the song"hey ther Delilah" is a different letter (and point in time). The first and second ones are to Skuld. The third one I haven't decided yet. The forth is to Brain (I don't ship them, I just headcannon its a running joke between the two of them and Skuld that Eph and Brain are secretly madly in love. Skuld started it, Ephemer went with it, Brain is amused annoyed by it lol). Then "A thousand miles seems pretty far" to "and you're to blame" is just general, to everyone, just like a montage I guess, with some memories behind him. Then the last letter is to Brain when.

Alternitively if we get a bit headcannon-y it can be after UX and him rebuilding Scala, the "You were a friend of mine" referring to a possessed Brain. All the "'cause they don't know you like I do"s are Brain in Scala. Super angry rock part is Subject X/Skuld being upset about the scientists and being unable to return to the world she sees so vaguely in her memories. Then it slows down and turns to Marluxia until the last "getting better in the worst way". After which it switches to Luxu.

"But you sunk only you froze", Brain's side of the screen consumes Ephemer's as Luxu approaches him. "'Cause you gave her your sweater", Brin spins around and tries to summon his keyblade but can't. Black screen. Then the rest of the verses are Ephemer in the wreckage of his home and the last chorus is Brain arriving in Scala.

The first chrous is him during the UX finale and possessing Brain. "Well you are my accuser" to the first "I am the only son" is Bragi getting threatened by Baldr then uno reversing him. The next two choruses are Braig and Xigbar stuff, all the way up until the end of KH3. Then the goes out of the flashbacks to where we left off in the first scene. He finds No Name summons and back the Foretellers.

The falling parts show Baldr’s victims at the point in time the animation is showing. The fact that that gives me a chance to do the sickest transition ever with Baldr summoning his keyblade and slashing his victims, turning them into the blood on his face. Ahhhhhh! The way I can end it with Baldr begging for his life and Xehanort being the one to say the last “I don’t really care now” thereby paralleling them and foreshadowing Xehanort’s future crimes. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I wanna ramble more but I don’t have any more words in me, just screaming.

I mean “you refuse to look at the guide ‘cause you think you’re way too smart”, this kid literally had the Book of Prophecies this whole time, and I mean sure, it was probably a trap but he didn’t exactly know that. And the whole video game motif fitting right in with data world stuff? Eating it up. Giving Brain a non-cannon breakdown moment? Necessary for that emotional high note (but also Brain should get to have a canon one *preemptively does vaguely threatening gestures towards ML*).

Finished the Persona 5 Anime, and I ended up liking it a lot more than I thought I would!
I definitely wouldn't recommend it to someone as their primary P5 experience, but if you've played the game and are hungry for more, it’s worth checking out!
Most of the fun is in how they connect all these various plots together into a coherent narrative, linking the confidant progressions into what’s happening with the overall plot or character development.
My favorite example of this is in the episode with Yusuke's confidant where he makes his speech at the end about his friends keeping him on track. Ren clearly learns from that, and so later when he gets into a discussion with Akechi about the Phantom Thieves being dangerous, Ren is able to echo Yusuke when he says that as long as the Thieves stay true to their justice, they'll stay on track. It’s a nice way to keep everything moving forward.
Another nice thing is that two infamously problem scenes got (imho) massively improved: the Mona-Ryuji fight, and the Ryuji scene at the end of Shido’s palace. I’ll go into more detail on how after some other stuff under the cut.
Cons 😅
They also threw in some weird extra fanservice moments in the first half, along the lines of generic anime “Ah yes Ann’s ass is talking” moments. Thankfully they seem to drop that in the second... season? half? whatever it is. Basically midway through there’s a new intro and they stop pulling that shit.
Yeah so the animation quality is notttt good, they seem to have been working off Yusuke’s food budget and everything went into making the fight scenes look almost decent. If you watch video essays, this can almost be treated like that; if you have a project to work on it’s nice to have this on to mostly listen to and occasionally look up at. BUT they do some nice stuff with stills, that's how we get things like baby Yusuke and Makoto and Haru, and some extra time of them all actually having fun at Destinyland. ♥
Ren 🙋‍♂️
So our protagonist is both helped and hindered by the medium shift. He does get things to say and I enjoyed that! Overall though he definitely feels less main-character-y with so much else to focus on. He shines in one-on-one scenes, over time you can see him become more comfortable and confident over time, especially once Futaba joins and we get some more time with Sojiro. But in group scenes I honestly tend to forget he's there.
Shippy stuff 💗
You could easily headcanon Ren as ace or gay or just shy. They keep all his relationships platonic and he never really reacts to being flirted with any way except being uncomfortable.
Oh, though if you’re an Akechi or Joker/Akechi fan... yeah just go watch this, trust me.
Most of my Yutaba moments got skipped or cut short, alas but it’s understandable. The real win here was for Ryuann! They're always rushing over to check on each other, and oh man Erica seriously brought it for Ryuji-possibly-died scene. And, speaking of...
Improvements!! 🌟
Mona-Ryuji “fight”: I was dreading getting to this part as I always do, and then... I actually ended up kind of enjoying it?
Part of it was just due to the medium switch, you don't have all that excruciating in-game time as Joker where you're forced to do nothing while something is CLEARLY bugging Morgana. The tighter timeline and focus of the anime does a better job drawing a line directly from the dream/Morgana’s growing insecurities to Morgana lashing out at Ryuji, making it more obvious how much he's projecting.
The game also splits the focus between “The problem is Mona being insecure but also Ryuji’s ego” which muddies things. In the anime, you didn't get everyone crawling up Ryuji's ass about apologizing; Ann could tell Ryuji was worried because they've been friends and she knows him. Ryuji apologizing was his own choice, which put the focus less on “it’s Ryuji’s fault this isn’t getting solved” and more towards dealing with the actual problem of Mona feeling unappreciated. The lesson was more clearly “You weren’t wrong to feel that way, what was wrong was how you handled it,” which made it all hit stronger when everyone came together to be like “hey man we’re sorry we made you feel like that, you absolutely belong here.”
Shido’s palace: They cut the end off!! 🎉🎊🎉 It only showed Ann, Haru, and Futaba crying and yelling at Ryuji, which is fine and believable as them being emotional and worried, cut to Ren, Makoto, and Yusuke watching them, then it ends! Bam, fixed, we’re good.
Conclusion 🎉
So yeah, think of it as supplemental material. If you’re already a Persona 5 fan, I recommend checking it out! If you have a friend who hasn’t played the game... either have them play the game or show them a let’s play or something, don’t use this as an intro, we all know it could be better 😅

i heard (from a three-month old post of yours) you have klonoa thoughts and i'm interested in hearing them (if you still have them)
even if not i still want to say i am on that klonoa hyperfixation juice and am a sucker for all of the symbolism i've found in the phantasy reverie games i swear it's so good
YES yes yes yes. i may not have been klonoaposting recently but i am ALWAYS full of thoughts and emotions about the series. most of them are incoherent. and will also be even more incoherent rn bc i am not very awake.
(this also comes with the disclaimer that i havent yet gotten to play the phantasy reverie version of lunatea's veil because i got to 5-2 in door to phantomile, went "not this shit again", and took a break and then haven't gotten around to setting my switch back up after travel. whoops)
i.. am putting this under a readmore.. because this is likely to get very long (and also discussing unreality in the context of klonoa worldbuilding)
SO THE DEAL WITH KLONOA. is mostly the continuity. it is a big ol' mess. the timeline between games doesn't make sense, characters appear and disappear at random, entire major character-shifting revelations (eg everything about huepow) get dropped, nahatomb goes from the incarnation of nightmares to Just Some Skeevy CEO in beach volleyball (and it's hilarious), it's just.. really hard to parse if you're somebody trying to link stuff together. i've seen some complaints about it, and as one of those people who likes to tie things together and will take a wrench to canon if i have to, i agreed for a while
and then when talking about klonoa to my friends, i came to a very important realization that made me sit down for a while and go "oh. yeah. of course."
everything is a dream.
like.. that's the whole premise of the series. these are all dream worlds that klonoa is being brought to and becomes part of for the duration of his stay. they're not supposed to be coherently connected, even if certain characters keep showing up. huepow is in empire of dreams despite it being probably after door to phantomile because huepow is someone important to klonoa, even if it doesn't really make sense for the overall narrative for him to be there without any explanation. same with lolo. klonoa meets someone, gets attached to them, and wants to see them again, so he does.
(you could also extrapolate this into "huepow is always in ring spirit form and the big reveal isn't addressed because klonoa doesn't want to acknowledge it", but that's a bit of a rougher subject.)
there's also potential for the idea that locations and people in door to phantomile are based off klonoa's waking life-- breezegale shows up a couple times (door to phantomile and klonoa heroes, i feel like there's another time i'm forgetting), klonoa's grandpa in dtp might be a phantomilian version of his actual grandpa, stuff like that. it would at least explain how huepow was easily able to graft klonoa into phantomile: there's already something to connect him to.
add onto that the fact that huepow says that, to phantomile, klonoa's world is a "strange dream".. huepow basically flipped klonoa's perspective, to where phantomile is the "real" breezegale and the real waking world is just a weird dream he had and forgot all the details of. which is still pretty fucked up. i do not have the energy to get fully into Huepow Thoughts but my emotions about this orb are "you did not need to do any of this and i am going to cry". this is a "huepow you really need to think more about your life choices" blog
idk there is a LOT to be done with how everything is framed and i really really want to explore that sometime. i fucking love klonoa

I think the duffers severely underestimated how deeply fucked up and cruel the younger queer community is toward the older queer community when they decided to have Henry be in his 30s rather than making him younger like, say, Billy (Not to say people aren't unbelievably fucked up toward Billy in this fandom because ooo boy, I learned some shit recently. But for Billy its a different reason and that basically being a whole lot of performative weirdos trying waaay too hard to virtue signal.) 
I mean, it (Henry’s age) makes perfect sense from the in-story perspective given social constructs are a huge point of commentary and earlier times are notorious for the extreme inhumanity “Society” showed toward anyone deemed “different.” The further back into the 20th century we go, the worse it gets, but honestly. But, yeah, it truly seems Henry’s age has been the source of where a lot of the most fucked up nasty things said and thought about him truly comes from.  Which is another thing I was meaning to talk about with Henry is how he is in fact in his 30s but funnily enough he’s framed younger. Which, I’ve talked about Henry’s Obvious Autism, but infantilization of people with ND and disabilities is so common and a big issue.  And I think we can assume Henry suffered this. I honestly don’t think Henry did a lot to get treated like a 31 year old man or to know how to behave exactly as one as a result. I mean he would have wanted to, he would have wanted to think of himself as a grown adult to the best of his (limited) ability, with his own developed thoughts, feelings, aspirations, etc, but given Henry’s only form of “social interaction” with others was probably with the people who were keeping him as their literal slave (Brenner and his facility) or with literal children, and “slavery” -- and being a body to be experimented on/with was his ONLY life for a long and terrible 20 years (longer than he was ever “”free””), I can imagine Henry being extremely naïve in a lot of “odd” ways (Or ways that would at least be considered odd to “normal” people) and a little out of touch with lots of things including with what's considered ‘appropriate’ for his age and how an adult is truly expected to be, as an actual adult, and not as someone whose only mode of action as an adult to be as obedient and agreeable possible, like a child.  Henry probably spent his time when he wasn’t forced to act as an “orderly” drawing, maybe reading books, maybe writing stories, doing crosswords, coloring, sometimes joining in with the child test subjects with their games (though mostly while he was ‘acting’ as an orderly) just doing little things but nothing indicative of his age (like building personal relationships, traveling, having an actual education, moving through a career, following his own dreams and ambitions, etc)  beside the small menial chores in his position as an ‘orderly’, which was basically a glorified janitor.  But then on top of that Henry doesn’t even look his age. And I noticed that in the subtitles they don’t even identify Henry as a man. He’s identified as “boy”. Thats extremely odd for a male because men usually don’t get the same treatment as women, where girl and woman can be used interchangeably often but “boy” and “man” usually aren't. (Which is a whole other bag a shit I am not getting into in this post)  Its very sad to think about because Henry started out his unwilling life in the lab as a little boy, but he grew up. And I imagine as he grew he was obviously never actually allowed to be a ‘man’ but instead he was treated as a freakish in-between. Someone who is treated like a child, someone with no autonomy but who is not offered the same type of ‘sympathy’ or treated with the same delicacy as a child might be based entirely on the virtue of physically being a child. (Not to say the children in the lab were treated really well.)  And that being a lot to contend with mentally and emotionally to say the least. Like the gradual shift of having, particularly Brenner, a man who would have initially presented himself to Henry as kind and sympathetic person who wanted to understand and help him, turn into this cold vehicle of contempt and disappointment, as Henry continued to “fail” to be Brenner’s perfect weapon until eventually there's nothing left but a man and all his subordinates who suddenly don’t want to help you, they just want to hurt and control you, keep you locked away and under their heels, like you're nothing but an animal and your only worth is now the minor services you can preform around the facility that is your prison.  And yeah, side note, I think Brenner and his similarly likeminded associates took a lot of pleasure out of this. Even if they were initially pissed they couldn’t seem to make Henry “work” the way they wanted and remained kinda pissed about it, I could imagine these “mediocre” people felt pretty awesome about being able to abuse and imprison someone with the remarkable powers Henry had. Which would make their cruelty toward him emphasized and probably why we see that wild level of brutality and willingness to beat his ass at the drop of a hat from his “fellow” orderlies.  Also reference this post.  Anyway, Henry has pretty much never been “free.” And he has pretty much almost never been allowed to be an actual “person” either. His human life is one of non stop oppression, abuse and exploitation. And I feel like all of these kinds of things need to be taken into account when talking about him, regardless to what you think about him or how you choose to interpret Vecna’s actions. Because while Vecna’s “”actions”” might be able to be looked at as “”debatable,”” Henry’s actions and the position he was in is not.

My Desired Reality: Overview
Since my main DR is kind of all over the place (my script is basically a novel), I figured I'd make a separate post about it.
General: My DR is an alternate version of this reality, where I am an actress living in LA. I star in a Netflix adaptation of the book series Gideon the Ninth, and I also start collaborating with Smosh, which is a YouTube sketch comedy/game channel that I've been a fan of forever. It's basically just me living my acting dreams in LA and hanging out with the Smosh crew, so on :)
Background: So I kept my background, age, name, etc. exactly the same, but instead of being at my current job for this long (I'm a therapist:)) I was "discovered" after a year and ended up starring in another super popular project and moved to LA before getting booked for Gideon. I pretty much blew up overnight since people were so shocked that I came out of no where and nailed my performance so well.
I also scripted that Gideon films in LA so I didn't have to move and would be near Smosh's studio.
I live in a lovely two bedroom in LA, and my roommate is Erana James, who is starring in Gideon as well. We decided to live together when we both got cast, since she's originally from NZ.
Ian Hecox, who owns Smosh, then reached out and asked me to spend the day on set and be in a few videos, since the whole Smosh team was a huge fan of my first project.
Significant Relationships:
Erana James: My roommate, co-star, and one of my closest friends. We worked together on my first project and are practically like sisters.
Courtney Miller: A member of the Smosh cast and my soon to be significant other (will make a separate post about her probably;)). I scripted a pretty fast-paced romance that blossoms between us, because I'm not patient enough for a slow burn with her and wanted to just focus on developing the relationship haha.
Smosh Cast: I basically become an honorary member of the Smosh family pretty fast, and build great relationships with all of them!
Shifting: For my first day I scripted that I had the apt to myself for the day, so that I could get oriented lol. The second day is when I go into Smosh for my first day to meet everyone.
From there, I scripted a bunch of scenarios about both the acting and the Smosh side - all the videos I'm in, adventures with the Gideon and Smosh cast, interviews, stuff like that.

Aw hi Sarah! Thank you so much for sending this one! I love playing the glad game and can easily go on a tangent, so let's see if I can even limit it to five things that make me smile (which, fun fact, isn't all that hard to do - I've even been told I smile too much so yeah, doesn't take a lot lol).
(This got long - that's what she said - so I put it under the cut)
1. Hubby
It's a long running joke that I married Mr. Darcy, in what appears to be a sort of sunshine meets (seemingly) grumpy, but it's all a facade lol. He's so funny! And I remember once, when we first got together (almost 18 years ago!), a family member politely asked uh, what it is about him that drew me in, and I replied that he makes me laugh so much! And she said, "but he never talks?" And I just laughed harder because like, sure maybe not to others - but for me, he makes not only jokes, but sound effect noises, and accents, and I never know when. Can just be in the living room and suddenly it's like Black Pete walked in lol.
He also makes me smile in many other ways, too - like he's the first person to ever kiss my hand, and all my princess dreams were fulfilled. He was the first person to just accept my sexuality (even before I ever knew the term asexual, much less the spectrum of it - though maybe him being the same is what helped us both go "you, too?!" Yeah it just felt so nice not to deal with - what I later learned was aphobia - and just get to be). So basically, yeah, he was the first healthy, mutually equal relationship I ever had, and he helped me better understand the minds of introverts, too. He is my biggest supporter, even patiently listens to me sharing server stories or Pwimo memes and never in a patronizing way - though sometimes he looks like this:

2. Kiddos
Both my children are my rainbow babies after loss, and I'm so blessed and honored that I get to be their mother. It is my job to love them, not theirs to love me, but they bring me so much joy and laughter simply by being them. There are several videos of us just hamming it up, dancing, singing, dramatic play - and I hope I never take the gift of their presence in my life for granted. The relationships naturally shift and evolve as they reach different milestones, but I do hope that even as adults they will want to continue to spend time with us because I'm excited to see how their personalities and experiences will further shape them into (hopefully) down to Earth, kind, people who want to pay it forward.
3. Chatting with people
I'm an extrovert, ESFP, words of affirmations gal - like gosh gimme all the people. It's my serotonin boost - it fills me up to converse with people. So much so that on long days with apps and errands and lots of driving, I'll timeblock social media time to get a boost in between them, because yeah, it always works! Seriously, on days when I'm stuck in bed, being able to stay in touch with people has genuinly shifted my general apphrension about the encroaching winter months. It's no lie that I essentially look like this when I get notifications:

I'm very appreciative of the fact that I have local friends and family I get to see monthly, and seasonally of course, but yeah my brain loves being connected with people more often than that, so social media/online is a great tool for me ❤️
4. Memes
Absolutely no shock to anyone who has talked to me even twice - I adore me some reaction memes and gifs (like even before I joined discord, I'd use them liberally in my text communication as well) - there's a limit to how much can be conveyed in text based conversations and my brain tends to read very literally so I love adding gifs/memes and emotes to help convey my sentiments and I appreciate the same back (or tone indicators if someone is being sarcastic). I have several albums/categories on my phone, divided by theme, hundreds if not thousands, and unless I know someone has a sensory/visual limit (certainly don't want to make it harder for anyone to communicate with me!) I tend to use them fairly liberally.

hii your kingdom hearts posting is getting to me is kingdom hearts any good?? idk anything abt it other than theres disney characters, keyblades, theres a lot of games and you play them in a weird order, and my friend cloud strife is there. the disney characters are really throwing me off bc everything i see abt the original kh characters looks good and also i love my friend cloud but is it worth getting into? or is it one of those things thats good bc youre already into it and u love it? i ❤️ piracy and have a hacked 3ds so the price of so many games is not an issue. u do not have to answer this ofc! but i thought it was worth asking nc the art u are reblogging is intriguing to me

my short answer is, i think its good! definition of good here being it was really fun to get into. i havent personally actually played any of the games if you're planning to play them tho- all of them are action rpgs, the first has like a certain amount of platforming and also bad camera controls that are just kind of a given considering its age. if you enjoy those types of games tho, its still very fun! holds up well. most of them are first and foremost playstation games except for 358/2 Days, which was a ds game (it hasnt had a remake like some of the other games, which is sad bc it has some of the best story and the cutscenes by themselves miss A Lot, but the gameplay itself is uh. Rough)
first, look up "kingdom hearts 1 opening"
if you think that looks sick as hell, i would honestly try out the first game and see how you feel about it afterwards! watching someone play that was what got me interested in digging into the entire thing and it is the first game so its a naturally good introduction with none of the weight of all the stuff that gets added over the years to the Lore. if you like 1 you can either play them in release order or chronological order and both would work probably. except the mobile game kh union x stuff i wouldnt touch that until you go through everything prior to kh3 even if its chronologically the first

extremely basic summary: a young boy, sora, lives on a group of islands called destiny islands with his best friends, riku and kairi, and they dream of exploring outside their small home. sora and all his friends are taken from the island and their world by the forces of darkness and are swept into a grand battle of light and dark. he teams up with donald and goofy from Disney(tm) and they fight monsters born from the darkness in people's hearts. sora has a blade that's a key bc he unlocks doors between worlds and hearts and stuff. rinse and repeat with a new iteration on the enemies you're facing and the worlds you visit
asides from the disney, the basic plot there is very normal jrpg fare! whats special about it to me is in the specifics, its visuals (i think despite not liking disney as a company the existence of these differing tones and visual styles is what Makes kh what it is), the non disney world and monster designs, the weirdness of a lot of the scenes and writing, and its complete sincerity in statements that are inherently very corny. while the themes shift and compound, the primary theme is connections between people and how those make up who you are and your heart.
you may have heard the story is confusing. honestly, i think this is mostly hyperbole and it makes as much sense as it really needs to. there are bits of lore that are definitely confusing but the games explain everything in such a way that the concepts arent confusing, they just sound weird when taken out of context. not that a lot of it isnt really silly and weird LMAO just that its easy enough to follow and grasp what its going for
re: the disney sections (like the actual worlds): theyre at best like. inoffensive filler i guess LOL. you can really see disney not giving a shit about their part in kingdom hearts the later it goes, with the kh3 disney worlds being like. sure lets put the entirety of frozen's "let it go" in who gives a fuck. however this was after pixar was bought out by disney, and the people working on the pixar stuff that was subsequently added to kh3 definitely put more thought into them as far as tying it in thematically to the rest. still not majorly important tho asides from a couple plot relevant scenes.
you will never escape the Big disney characters tho lol. mickey mouse will Always be there after kh1, as well as donald and goofy who are literally the main character's party members. against my better judgement i do enjoy donald and goofy in kh, and find them generally fun characters despite having limited personal nostalgia about them! they're fine to have around.
if u want to see cloud strife our friend, i will say he isnt there a lot and he's in full sulky guy mode, tho a Lot of final fantasy characters are included until kh3 where i guess they decided they were going to stop putting ff characters in for whatever reason. sephiroth is a major secret boss fight in both 1 and 2. yuffie, aerith, cid, and leon are there immediately. tifa is in 2. barret has never shown up despite all the other ff7 main characters which is a little. raises eyebrow. but whatever

Of daemons and children part 2
"Lulu, fetch!" I chase the stick thrown by Emma, my ears flop with every leap, my tail wags frantically, wind blows fur in my eyes. It's been months since the summoning. Emma, David and Jess seemed to completely forget about the ritual. Resurrecting the family pet with the help of a demonic soul is something best kept out of your mind. Parents welcomed Lulu back with certain hesitation and unease, but they couldn't deny that she was alive. I quickly learned what it means to be "the best friend" for those kids and I dedicated myself to fulfilling my duties. I used to fight on the front lines of the Division wars, alongside one of the first Defiants. Now I carry a name that makes mockery of him and chase balls around the park. I have never been trapped in the flesh for so long. I can feel my soul being shaped by this body. In my dreams I'm still the Fallen, shifting between planes, going up and down the stream of time, taking part in gods' games. When I'm awake though, my thoughts are filled with simple instincts and desires. Day by day, week by week, I'm becoming a dog. Being a family dog isn't a bad life if you're of a basic mind. You don't have to worry about anything as long as you play your part as a pet. Like a slave. Not so long ago, just a thought like that would be enough for me to erupt in anger. But not anymore, I'm losing myself. I need to get out of this contract before I forget who I am.
Then it happened. I was being walked by kids’ parents, something that I had to accept as a pet, when I was struck by a piercing light. Suddenly I became myself again, ready to fight against the blinding shine, waking up every inch of my real self. I recognised that pain, only one being could smite with such force - Luminous! I haven't crossed paths with one since the division wars. Yet there it is, sitting high on a tree, blinding me with its aura. I gathered all my strength, all hidden fury and charged towards it, ready to re-live old glory. Lulu's body could barely handle my strength when I leapt forward, only to collapse when the collar choked me and pulled me to the ground. "John, help me, I can't hold her!" both parents struggled to keep me on the lead, but to my surprise, they won, they pulled me away. A demonic fury could not win while entangled in a dog's body. Luminous disappeared amongst the trees. I looked one last time, what is it doing here? How did it manage to stay hidden? I have to find out! My mind was racing when I was being pulled back home. - John, what happened to her? - Don't worry Marry, she is very old, must be getting a bit crazy. - A bit? She lost her mind because of a squirrel!

Hi, CBAS. I have a LoZ thought I've been mulling for awhile and I'm curious about your thoughts, since you have a strong grasp of LoZ canon and LU/fanon interps.
There have long been rumors that Capcom intended the Oracle games to be sequels to the Ocarina of Time. Ninty made them sequels to ALTTP since they were working on MM. There is definitely a lot linking the Oracle games to OoT -- Zelda's appearance is much more similar to OoT than ALTTP, 'ages' and 'seasons' tie in with theme of time and its passage, the cutscene showing Link on a horse (epona), the presence of the Maku Trees (big one, in my mind), etc.
The question I've been pondering is, if we took the Oracle games away from Legend and gave them to Time (I guess the LU characters, but even broader than that if you want), do you have any thoughts on how it would affect the characters?
I think Time would be more affected, but it would take away Legend's 'veteran' status since his adventure count would be more similar to other Links. Time, meanwhile, would have had four quests, all of which would deal with time manipulation... Hmm. Maybe meeting other Maku Trees would have been good for him, though. Anyways, I'd love to hear someone else bounce the idea around with their thoughts, if you feel inclined!
Huh - I've heard of the Oracles games being connected with Zelda 1, but not with Ocarina of Time. That's really interesting!
There are a few lore things that wouldn't make as much sense that way, e.g. the whole thing with Twinrova attempting to resurrect Ganon (as opposed to Ganondorf being sealed away in the Twilight Realm) - though the fact that Twinrova are alive at all does make more sense in the Child Timeline than in the other two. I almost wonder if those games should be shifted to Twilight or Four instead. But anyway.
One thing that strikes me with those two quests is that they are LONG. 8 dungeons each, with some of the most difficult final boss fights in the series, and long enough to watch Bipsom grow from a newborn into a talkative child (or really, a grown man?? Idk. They grow up so fast). So that's a lot of adventuring experience to pass between the two. And items! You get SO many new items in those games! Suddenly, Time is the one with a tool for everything. Coolest of which is the Switch Hook, in my view. And he gets all the magical rings! Including (optionally) the one that lets him turn into Hyrule lol. And of course, the Mermaid Suit.
I'd also say that there's a lot less horror in those games compared to some others in the series? Not that there's none at all, but it feels much more hopeful than say Link's Awakening. And considering Time really didn't have much of a home once he left Kokiri Forest: maybe it would actually be really good for him? You make a lot of friends along the way after all. I reckon he and Ralph would get along. And Dimitri (lovely, sweet, Dimitri). Also, you meet Malon in Oracle of Seasons! If this is OoT!Link, then it might be the first time she meets him in that timeline, even Time already met her in a different one. And there's a mask maker in Oracle of Ages with a similar look but VERY different personality to the one from OoT and MM; wonder how Time would feel about that?
Another thought: if Time gets the Oracles games, does he also get Link's Awakening? Because I kind of like the flow of ALTTP to Oracles to the game that takes a bunch of assets and characters from those games and jumbles them up into a dream world, and so if you shift Oracles, there's an argument to move LA as well. And THAT would be interesting. Both because shifting it over removes a lot of the argument for Legend's bitterness, and that I think that quest would hit differently for Time. I mean, considering Marin is basically dream Malon, and that she's so determined for him to wake up and survive that she's willing to sing to the Windfish herself, consequences be damned: maybe that's when Time has his "oh" moment. 👀
