I had!!! Such a good day today. There was a lil funfair on at a local park so Charlie came through, we went on a bunch of rides, got ice cream and then a couple of drinks. Lots of infodumping and long rambling conversations. Just. Really really Good Day.

I was like "huh, loads of alchemy in Magnus Protocol, better pick up some books on alchemy to see if they help me understand some hidden themes" so I picked up "Secrets of Alchemy" by Lawrence M. Principe and guys, I'm just sitting there, reading it like:
THERE IS SO MUCH STUFF THAT'S CURRENTLY RELEVANT. DYES (INKS??) BEING ONE OF MAIN SUBJECTS, AN ALTAR WHERE YOU SACRIFICE MEN OF THREE METALS AND ASK THEM QUESTIONS (FREDDY?), GERMAN CODE BEING RELEVANT (???), ONE OF THE MAIN ARABIC SCHOLARS OF ALCHEMY WAS PRINCE FUCKING KHALID (like, ya know, SAMAMA KHALID??).
I'm only TWO CHAPTERS INTO THIS BOOK and already had like five points where I'm gleefully reading it and suddenly going "...wait". I will go insane before S1 even ends.

...shit, I think we're dealing with new fears entirely. At least some new ones. Like...the reoccurring theme of trading your life for personal gain feels distinct from the existing ones? Unless it's an aspect of Terminis i guess?

Today's aesthetic: cosmic horror tabletop RPGs from the 1980s whose creators wrote the "madness rules" by simply plagiarising a list of disorders and their descriptions from the DSM-II and turning it into a d100 lookup table, except the DSM-II still listed "homosexuality" as a mental disorder (it wasn't removed until the DSM-III), with the result that there are several published tabletop RPGs where there's a small but non-zero chance that seeing Cthulhu will make you gay.
