fairy arcana li’s hmm? 😮‍💨
asra- he would DEFINITELY sound like a bell when he flies. like tinker bell. idc what anyone says. they are mischievous and like to steal things from you just so you’d be forced to come back (though, let’s admit it, we would’ve come back anyways). they enjoy sleeping in your hair the most, or maybe on your chest closest to your heart. although they are fully capable of flight, they refuse to do so whenever you’re around. “but, mc, i sprained my wing on the way here to see you! i’m serious, look!” he’ll fake wince as he flaps his wings gently open and closed, you don’t buy it.
would love to grind against your tongue, does it anytime they can. and just imagine the little jingle that comes with the shuddered flutter of his pretty, glittery transparent wings after cumming- edging himself to a squirted orgasm. one thing he loves about your size is your warmth. he can just curl up in the crook of your neck and lay there, falling asleep to your pulse and the comforting warmth you emit.
julian- i just know he flies around everywhere. he’d probably get mistaken for a hummingbird at first because he’s always rushing around, never taking a break, work work work 24/7/365. he might have some sharp wings, pointed at the end, that tickle your ear when he sits on your shoulder. he loves talking your ear off, about fairy history, anatomy, medicine, culture, etc.
he’d probably try to fit himself around your thumb. he’s just a few inches short of muriel’s height, so he’s still pretty tall, but his slim figure makes up for that. it’s still quite a stretch for him, but we know just how much this doctor loves the pain. he might even try to fit two fingers- and can you imagine how pretty he’d look taking two fingers inside of him, and one in his mouth? face absolutely wrecked and teary eyed, insisting he can take more. once he cums, he’s out like a light, and you just prepare a hot bowl of water for him to bathe in when he wakes up, clean your fingers, and stroke his tiny face till he wakes up.
nadia- most likely to look like a butterflies wings imo. they have a pattern on them- golden intricate lines- that seem to glow brighter when she flies. she sits on your palm like her own personal thrown, making gentle conversation as you guys take routine walks through the forest where the plant life and flora are most prominent. she’s quite, graceful, and sometimes you feel like you breathe too loud around her. you amuse her greatly and she enjoys your company. she’d invite you to as many fairy traditions as possible just to have you close by.
i’m really trying to think of some good nsfw w her, but i am… unable to im so sorry.
portia- now her wings DO glow. but they’re kind of small compared to average fairy size, which can make it hard for her to fly that far without tiring herself out too much. she v much prefers travel king with you because she can just rest against you when it gets too tiring. it’s fun having her around, because she literally glows. her wings g l o w. she’s like a little firefly in your palm. she doesn’t have a preference for where she sits. shoulder makes it easier for you to hear her- even though she’s already pretty naturally loud already- and she can play with your hair if she sits on your head. your palm is fun, because she can look down and watch the ground move beneath you both. etc etc.
remember what i said about how she’s loud? yea she’s even louder when you eat her out. your tongue can pry her open so easily, and it’s so warm. and wet. and god it feels so good. overstimulate her till her wings glow brighter than they ever have before. and watch her try to keep going even though you both know she’s tired. pet her and call her a good girl and she’ll melt against you into a happy soft mess of love.
muriel- since you say his wings are tattered, but used to look like an atlas moth, i imagine him being afraid of what they looked like in full. like, even i have to admit they’re a little intimidating (but then again i have a fear of bugs LOL) i can imagine spending time w him, gently rubbing salves into the base of his wings where it must hurt the most, and having that be the start of where he slowly trusts you. i can imagine him riding your shoulder around places, hiding behind your scarf or in your hair or in your pocket, etc.
and imagine letting him grind himself down on your tongue? or letting him fuck himself on your fingers? laying him down on some soft pillows, nudging your nose against his face as you let him get lost in the pleasure of just a single finger hitting all his sweet spots for the first time as his small, rough hands do their best to pull you closer. he’d be one of the most affectionate during these times because,, omg for once he’s not the bigger person! he’s actually small!!
lucio- mosquito. period. cant have him flying too close to you because it’s just bzzzzzzsssss and it’s Annoying. one half of his wing is damaged extremely, but he has small fancy fairy machinery that helps it navigate well enough. but (luckily for you) he prefers riding your shoulder. because riding around with a prosthetic wing gets extremely tiring.
… i cant think of any sex for him. i feel so bad i’m sorry jjdjd
- @dollarstore-writings
!!I love this!!
Asra making a little tinkle sound oml 🥺 he loves sleeping in chest pockets on your shirts so he can feel your heartbeat ♡ asra pretending to sprain a wing so you’ll coddle him..such a mischievous fairy! I bet he steals little jewels and gems from merchants to gift to you like little fairy courting
Asra likes to straddle your tongue so he can rut and grind his little cock/clit against the soft wet muscle. It’s like nothing he’s ever felt and makes him see stars. He loves his big kind human and their big wet mouth ♡ if your hair is the right texture and length he’d try to burrow into it and nap (afro mcs watch out in your hair you WILL find a sleeping friend and he’s too cute to wake up)
Julian is a very jittery fairy hopped up in the fairy equivalent to coffee. He carry’s a tote/satchel of little books and papers from human literature folded super tiny to fit in his bag. His wings and muscle connecting are a bit thicker because of how quickly his wings move when he flies so he’s often mistaken for a bird like fairy! But he Would love talking your ear off about anything and everything that comes to mind
Julian’s size queen tendencies transcend species and he WILL fit your thumb inside him if it’s the last thing he does. He’s the second biggest fairy but he’s so slim you can see the bulge in his belly! He loves to see the little lump and press on it while you fingerfuck him ♡. He needs another finger in his mouth at all times cause he can get Loud even by fairy standards. He tries, he really does, but he can’t take two fingers. It’s far two big in the end but you could probably fit a bullet vibe (in a modern au) inside him considering it’s about the size of a finger. You clean him up with a warm rag and prepare a hot bath for when he wakes up ♡
Nadia loves to perch up in your hand and trace the lines of your palm. She likes to have you at fairy balls and events and all the other fairies seem to love the gentle giant human relaxing in the corner. (You will get covered in tiny flower crowns). It’s easy to feel too big around her, but she always tells you about how nice it is to have personal company, no matter the size.
Nadia loves to tinker! So I’m a modern (still fairy) au, she would love to explore with any toys you have. A bullet vibe is the best match for her, a rumbly little thing small enough to try and ease into herself if she really wanted. She’s never had an orgasm so intense than after a session with the vibe. She can’t go more than the first level unless she really tries, so you stick with the first setting and focus on technique rather than intensity (if you have a fleshlight she will get Very confused and try to shove her hand in there to feel around. She immediately gets flustered upon finding out what if is)
Portia’s wings flap quickly like Julian’s but hers are far too small for her solidity (she’s more weighty than others- less possibility of hollow-ish bones) so she greatly appreciates a ride. Oh little firefly wings….so precious! Whenever you can’t find something she just rubs her wings together and activates that glow to help you peek in dark areas
She very loud, much like her brother. Her wings glow so brightly the closer she gets to cumming. Oral is the best way to get her off. Rubbing her would be fine but if you want a big reaction have her grind on your tongue. Unfortunately she’s too small to take her finger but there’s always silicone molds to make your own tiny toys for her! She loves making little collars for herself and asking you to clasp them on her, perching up where you want her and sitting pretty like a good girl.
Poor Muriel has tattered wings from his time in the arena. His wings, while they used to be wide and fluffy atlas wings, are not calloused stubs at his back. He used to think it was a blessing to lose them, considering they were so big. But he always ends up teary when you rub the lotions and balms over his back and treat his little stubs like they’re something beautiful. He’s the largest of them all, about 11-12 inches tall (with Julian falling at 8-9) so hiding is difficult for him in the fairy world. Buy a hoodie with a deep pocket so he can sit in it, the cocoon shape makes him comfortable.
It makes him so happy to be the small one. He likes when he only job is to be comfy and keep his legs spread, even if he felt awkward and undeserving at first. It’s gets overwhelming quickly to him, but he loves getting gently fucked on your finger. He tends to grab and cling to your other hand if you let him, making low noises compared to the others. If you put your tongue there he’d lose it. It’s far too good for him, he couldn’t handle the wet warmth and he cums embarrassingly quickly (but that isn’t new)
Lucio would be a mosquito. He makes himself more grandiose than he naturally is to compensate for being such a low level fairy. The prosthetic would be far too heavy for a wing, so he’s kept from flying because of it, though he can still flutter a little bit off the ground. He does still have his golden arm, and he likes randomly scratching you with it for laughs. He sticks on your shoulder because he likes to be tall and high up, grinning so widely all the while.
He’s very self conscious of his wing and arm, even if he acts self assured and confident. Lucio would melt if you gently rubbed his bad wing and told him how pretty he is. He’s mid height among the others (same size as nadia if not a cm or two shorter) so he can take your finger but it is a stretch. But he loves it, he wants to feel immobilized by how full he is.

Ruby Alone
As you all have seen, since prior to the last episode, I’ve been sharing my thoughts and ideas on the theory of V8 concluding with the “death” of RWBY after they fall “off Remnant and into a mysterious Other World”, as alluded to by Oscar.
While I’m still inclined to believe that theory may become possible given what transpired in this recent episode, in reviewing the RWBY V8 Opening, I noticed something interesting about the visuals again which caught my attention.
During the opening, RWBY falling was hinted much earlier in the theme during these shots right here. It’s these two shots of RWBY’s signature weapons falling through negative space which is later followed up by the opening ending with the weapons landing together on the ground.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, here’s the bit that I think is noteworthy that I didn’t take into account before. Although the weapons of all four main girls were shown falling together through space and landing on the ground, not only is Crescent Rose the last one to hit the ground but it is also the ONLY one shown in the final shot of the opening.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is also worth noting that the weapons fall in this particular order---first Ember Celica, then Gambal Shroud, then Myrtenaster and final Crescent Rose which ironically spells RWBY backwards.
And going back to my theory about RWBY falling in order....with Yang falling first then this is all starting to make more sense.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Going back to my point---Crescent Rose---Ruby’s weapon is the only weapon that landed on the ground but didn’t fade to darkness like the others. Instead, Crescent Rose is the only one remaining in the snow on what appears to be Remannt. Keeping that in mind, it’s making me start to ponder an alternative to my V8 finale theory.
What if…I’m actually mistaken about the whole RWBY team falling prey to the Other World ?
What if…as an alternative prediction, V8 will end with Ruby as the last man standing and the sole surviving member of her team after the rest “die” to the void?
Tumblr media
Thus; V9 becomes Ruby’s story as she deals with the depression of losing her whole team; all obviously culminating with her eventually reuniting with them in the Other World. But before that, it’s mostly just about Ruby. Not RWBY. But just Ruby since RWBY started with just Ruby on her own in Remnant, trying to become a huntress. She only ends up going to Beacon and meeting and forming her own team due to Ozpin’s influence.
So imagine if...after everything she’s been through these last eight seasons, things just go back to how they were before. Ruby is on her own again. No team to lead. No big sister to guide and protect her (although ALPNE is there of course). No “BFFs” or “future-sister-in-law” on the same team to fuel her spark of hope. She no longer has her main friends by her side.
Ruby will be on her own for the first time in a long time and it becomes just her story for the most part of V9 as she does her best to figure out things all while the rest of the cast who survived the fall---Penny, ALPNE and their allies in Vauco and eventually Vale---try to provide her with the emotional support that she needs in place of the one she lost.
For the first time, the story is not about Ruby having to be the spark of hope to support others but…her friends, at least the ones she still have, coming together to support her for once in a time when she can truly need it.
Like I said. It would be the story of Ruby. Not RWBY. Just Ruby. If you get what I mean.
...And now for a squiggly rant...about Ruby:
One general complaint that I’ve heard from the FNDM about Ruby including Little Red Ruby fans like myself is that Ruby has more or less received the shortest end of the stick in terms of development over the past couple of seasons since V4…despite the fact that she is our central main character who is the leader of our core team with her name literally being in the title. Not to mention that Ruby is also the face of the RWBY franchise. When RT isn’t promoting the whole RWBY team together, it’s mainly Ruby to represent RWBY since of all the girls, she is the main one as the main protagonist of RWBY. At least…she’s supposed to be?
To be blunter, I’m just going to call out the fat Heffalump in the room---Ruby Rose, despite being the leader of RWBY---despite being our title character and face of the franchise---the one characters in the show always turn to since she’s THAT important---despite all of that, Ruby has NOT felt like the actual main protagonist of RWBY for several seasons. Since V4 as some fans like to point out.
And after closely observing her story over the last few volumes, I can’t help but agree with these critiques and comments of Ruby’s treatment when it comes to her own writing. Even when the CRWBY showrunners DO attempt to do stuff with her---it all falls...flat especially when you compare Ruby to other characters like Jaune Arc, for example, whose stories and overall development were handled much better. At least in my opinion.
Tumblr media
Don’t believe me? Take for example, Ruby’s whole so-called “arc” as a Silver Eyed Warrior. First it was introduced as a new idea for Ruby during the FINALE of V3, then it got abandoned for two whole seasons between V4-V5. Then it got reintroduced back in V6 but was then rushed and dropped yet again for V7 only to be brought up again briefly during V8…kind of?
It’s really telling when you realize that Ruby gained control of her silver eyes despite never truly receiving any actual training from Maria in how to control her powers. Not only that but the showrunners really did Maria Calavera dirty. She was supposed to be the wise old mentor who was a badass in her prime meant to pass down her wisdom to her young eager apprentice who knew nothing of her own unique abilities including its mysterious origins.
Instead Maria didn’t know at all about where her powers originated from until she conveniently met our heroes after the Argus Ltd crash and just happened to be present when they asked Jinn about Oz’s secrets. Instead of being a mentor to Ruby which she was initially propped up to be, Maria ended up being relegated to the Granny Uber Driver of the hero team---no longer the wise experienced ex-huntress whose supposed to be teaching our title character but just a form of transportation who provides the occasional comic relief and support for Pietro Polendina, who she was put to work with…instead of Ruby…her alleged apprentice?
Tumblr media
Shoot---despite being a Silver Eyed Warrior, Ruby was never even a person of interest for this volume. Despite the main big bad being in Atlas and despite targeting her in the past, Salem…never goes after Ruby again while she’s in Atlas??? Ruby never even meets Salem? Despite…Salem targeting Ruby back in V4? Despite Salem’s history with capturing Silver Eyes? Despite Salem’s connection to Ruby through her mother???
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ruby is never actively a part of the Salem subplot on Monstra…even though… certain developments left over from previous seasons indicated that she should’ve been?
Tumblr media
Instead…we got to watch Yang accost Salem for Summer Rose’s death after SHE is the one to be on the rescue party to save Oscar from Monstro. Even though…Yang has neither been a person of interest to Salem before NOR has the Xiao Long girl been shown to be a close affiliate of Oscar in the past prior to V8 NOR has the Xiao Long girl actually addressed Summer Rose as her mother since V2???
Up until V8, Ruby has always been the character of focus with all things Summer Rose and Salem and yet…we NEVER saw her meet Salem in the flesh period for this season…at all…???
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Instead; Ruby spends MOST of this season cooped up at Schnee Manor, completely absent from and even oblivious to some of the more dire PLOT stuff that was happening outside of Schnee Manor (such as YJR going into Monstra to save Oscar before the Aces Ops blew up the whale).
Despite her connection to Oscar who became Salem’s prisoner. Despite her connection to Salem through her mother. Despite being a Silver Eye and a former target of Salem. Despite the Hound and what it turned out to be. Despite the showrunners literally teasing Ruby meeting Salem face to face back in V7---WE NEVER GET TO SEE RUBY MEET SALEM IN THE FLESH AT ALL DURING V8 WHILE SALEM IS IN ATLAS???
Salem targets Oscar which makes perfect sense given his connection to Ozma as his current incarnate. But Salem doesn’t target Ruby? DESPITE HER BEING A TARGET OF HERS IN THE PAST? DESPITE HER BEING A SILVER EYED WARRIOR? DESPITE WHAT THE HOUND REVEALED?
Why didn’t Salem send the Hound after Ruby? That would’ve made more sense, again knowing what the Hound actually was? Instead the Hound was sent after Penny which, in my opinion, felt mighty redundant since Salem already had Watts and Cinder Fall dealing with Penny.
THEY EVEN TEASED THE HOUND TARGETING RUBY BUT IT WAS ALL A FLUKE.  RUBY IS COMPLETELY OMITTED FROM THE SALEM SUBPLOT EVEN THOUGH SHE IS THE TITLE CHARACTER AND THE ONLY ONE ON TEAM RWBY WITH A LEGIT CONNECTION TO SALEM AND HAS BEEN A TARGET OF HERS SINCE V4???
I DON’T GET IT!
…BUT… with my mini rant aside, those are just a few of the inconsistencies that I’ve noticed in the writing of RWBY in respect to Ruby Rose.
Overall; the point I’m trying to make here is this: for the sake of sounding like a Negative Nancy, I ask this honest question to the CRWBY Writers. How? How can you fumble this much with your own title character? I’m not saying this to come off disrespectful. I’m saying this as someone who has followed the story of RWBY since the get-go and has closely observed the treatment of its characters; particularly the main ones and particularly the ones that I personally love and Ruby is one of them.
Despite being our main girl, Ruby’s writing hasn’t been the squeakiest, admittedly. As a matter of fact, it’s been quite messy since V4 due to the amount of times the showrunners have introduced ideas for her only to abandon them later on thus creating those problems with consistency I mentioned earlier.
Tumblr media
Overall, it’s difficult for me to even say that Ruby is the lead character of RWBY since often times; she doesn’t FEEL like the main protagonist despite the show claiming how important she is meant to be. And this sentiment is due in part to how messy her story is handled compared to other characters of lesser importance.
And it’s a sad thing for me to say as both a viewer and fan of Ruby’s character since Ruby is THE lead main character of RWBY. She’s like the Tony Stark of the RWBY-verse. She’s the one who started it all yet her story is one of the messiest I’ve seen in terms of direction and treatment. At least by my observations since this is just my opinion on the subject matter.
It’s one thing to blunder a bit on your side or even your supporting characters. But to slip up on your lead characters, especially your MAIN one who is the FACE of the show, c’mon CRWBY Writers.
And the events of V8 didn’t help change my opinion. After taking away all the bloat this season had for all the stuff they tried to shove into this one season, I realized that V8 didn’t really do much for Ruby. At least, not as much as I anticipated.
I was hoping that Ruby would’ve been a more focal character for V8 since V7 teased some stuff for her in respect to Salem. Instead, I watched a season where Ruby felt more like a supporting character for Penny Polendina since, in my opinion, Penny received much more focus and better development for V8 while Ruby, our LEAD took backstage to her story.
Tumblr media
Because while Ruby was stuck playing supporting character, she was actively left out of subplots that she should’ve been a major part of. Not just because she’s the “protagonist” but because of elements to her story that were developed seasons prior but seemed to have gotten dropped for V8?
Ruby’s treatment for V8, to me,  is an example of a “build-up with no payoff”. All that stuff between her and Salem and her mother felt like it ultimately didn’t matter in the end because Ruby didn’t even meet Salem.
Yang, to me, had the development with Salem that Ruby should’ve received.
Shoot---Ruby wasn’t even a thought on Salem’s mind…despite the events V4 and V7???
Tumblr media
I just don’t understand.
But like always, this is just how I feel about it. I’m disappointed with how Ruby was done for this season. While I liked the moment she shared with Blake in V8CH8 and Yang in V8CH11...that’s pretty much the ONLY thing I liked about Ruby’s story for this season.
Outside of that, it felt to me like the showrunners didn’t do much with her for V8. In a season of so much happening, the stuff that happened with Ruby on her side of the story didn’t honestly stand out to me compared to what I saw the showrunners do for other characters who aren’t the lead this season.
Tumblr media
It’s not like I’m trying to say she didn’t receive any development at all for V8. It’s more like most of what was done with Ruby didn’t quite stand out to me so it ends up feeling like not much was done for her.
To me, Ruby falls into the same category as Nora Valkyrie for this season. Despite the PLOT preaching about them getting big developments, if you rock back and actually analyse the narrative, you’d actually see that not much was done for them despite the PLOT “talking the talk but not walking the walk” y’know what I mean?
And going back to Ruby, that’s disappointing since I wanted more for Ruby. I EXPECTED MORE for Ruby as our title lead but it didn’t happened. Instead it felt like some of the major developments that she should’ve received for this season went to other characters while she in turn took a backseat.
Things didn’t really start kicking up for Rubes until halfway through the season when the 100th episode aired and the Hound appeared. And even then the excitement of that reveal was short-lived since...Ruby was NOT the real target of the Hound. PENNY WAS. The Hound wasn’t sent to antagonize RUBY. It was sent for Penny which to me sort of undermines the reveal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some Ruby fans have been wishing for the show to feel more about just Ruby again for quite some time now and it is for this reason why I’m starting to dig this alternative theory of mine with Ruby surviving “The Fall of the Central Zone” alone with the rest of her team lost to the Other World.
While the concept of RWBY being trapped together in another world is still on the table of possibilities, I still wish to toss out this other one too.
I like the idea of a more Ruby-centric season where for the second time in the narrative, she’s separated from her core teammates only this time…it’s in “death” or rather “nonexistence” or “nothingness” since from Ruby’s perspective with her limited knowledge of magic (despite what she does know from Oz and Jinn) and the workings of the world that Ambrosius created, she doesn’t know what truly happened to her team.
The only thing she knows is that she watched her whole team dissipate into nothing before her very eyes and that is the last memory she has of them that haunts her for some time.
Imagine if…V9 will be about Ruby dealing with such a huge loss which could potentially touch more upon how she internalizes death in general tying back into probably flashbacks of her time with her mother before she learnt of her death at a young age.
While I understand we’ve had a storyline with Ruby being separated from her main team before back during V4-V5, however a plot line like this would be different this rounds since unlike before, Ruby at least knew that her team mates were alive. Far away. Separated by distance. But still alive and still a part of Remnant with the hope that she would be reunited with them again.
However this won’t be the case this second time. It would truly be Ruby alone since her team would be gone and no one could provide her with the solace of seeing them again---not even the friends she does still have (although that doesn’t stop some of them from trying to be there for the little red rose who has now lost more than her heart could handle)
I know the off-chance of this theory actually coming to fruition might be scarce. But like many ideas I’ve shared, it’s still worth tossing out since you guys know how this squiggle meister likes to roll.

Zuko’s Story
Summary: Y/n is a fan of tea, but she's an even bigger fan of the cute boy who sells it at the Jasmine Dragon. Prompts: 1. “I think I’m falling in love with you, and it scares me.” 4. “I’ve always been in love with you, since the beginning.” 11. “You look beautiful.” 23. "I really like having you around." Fandom: ATLA Pairing: Zuko x reader Warnings: none A/N: This is for @fromthewatertribe‘s 1k event! This was an idea I had before but saw your prompts and knew it would fit perfectly!
I slowly sipped on my tea, eyeing the cute server. I had been gawking at him for who knows how long, but I knew he wouldn't notice. He never noticed.
I knew his name was Lee by hearing it around the shop. I had been coming every single day for the past three weeks during my little brother Cam's bending lessons. I wasn't a bender, but he was, and I was determined for him to learn. Ever since our father had been taken away for bending when the fire nation raided our village, I knew he had to learn. I ran away with him the day I learned he could bend, refusing to let them take him too. As a result, we ended up as refugees in the last safe place there was, Ba Sing Se. And, even though money was so unbearably tight, I insisted that he go to regular lessons to learn how to bend. I was not going to let his talent be wasted.
"Would you like more tea?" I was startled out of my thoughts my a low voice beside me. I looked up quickly and had to fight back a blush. Of course it was Lee.
"No thanks, handsome," I blatantly flirted with him like usual and pressed a coin into his palm. He blinked a couple times before closing his hand around the coin. I got up and left him at the table, exiting the shop. It was about time I picked up Cam anyways.
I began to walk in the general direction of Cam's lessons. I didn't make it far, though. After a few minutes of walking, I was roughly pulled into an alley. I tried to scream, but a hand muffled my attempts. I twisted and thrashed, but my assailant had caught me well off guard so there was not much I could do to free myself. So, I stopped trying to free myself. I decided to wait until I saw an opening and take it. I had a whole plan in motion but it was shattered when I saw who had grabbed me.
"Lee?" I mumbled through his hand. I scrunched my eyebrows together and relaxed in his hold. It was only then that I processed how close we were. He had my wrists clasped behind my back, the rest of his arm pressing his body to mine. He was half a head taller then me, so he was looming over me.
"How to you know my name?" He rasped angrily. He lowered his hand from my mouth, which I appreciated, but when he brought it back he was holding a knife. I guess I preferred being muffled. He held the blade to my throat as a threat.
Well, I guess he finally noticed my staring.
"I heard it around the shop," I answered truthfully. To be honest, I was scared out of my mind. But, I was also a little bit turned on. This guy was really hot and the tough guy act sure wasn't helping my heartbeat. He was a lot cuter up close, I thought, then cursed at myself. That's what I was thinking about when I had a knife to my throat? However, for some reason, I didn't feel like he would hurt me. Be it the result of my crush or intuition, I just couldn't bring myself to be scared.
"Why do you stare at me all the time? What do you know? Do you know who I am?" He paused for a millisecond. "Answer me!" He shouted.
I opened and closed my mouth, I was sure I looked like a koi. "I, uh, don't know how to answer that," I replied carefully. "But I have no idea who you are or anything else pertaining to you for that matter."
"Then why are you always in the shop? And why do you always stare at me?" He asked the same question again and I knew I would have to give him a response. He wasn't going to let this one go.
"I like tea?" I said meekly. He gave me a hard stare in response. I sighed in defeat and slumped a little bit. I broke eye contact and looked off to the side to make sure no one was coming. It would be hard for Lee to explain his way out of that one. "Can you let me go at least?" I finally sighed. "I am not going to hurt you, you are the one with the knife."
Lee frowned but nodded and let me go. I shook out my arms, slightly numb from the awkward angle, and sighed in relief.
"Now tell me," Lee began, raising his knife to my throat again. "What business do you have with me?"
I rolled my eyes and pushed the knife away, no longer really scared. If Lee was a bad guy, he never would have let me go. "None? Listen if you want the truth, here it is. I think you're cute so I like going to the shop and watching you work. Nothing malicious."
"Oh," he said softly, lowering his knife.
"I am really sorry for staring at you all the time, I'll stop coming if that's what you want-well of course it's what you want of course you don't want some freak staring-"
"No." Thankfully, Lee cut off my rambling. "I, uh, well... I don't mind, well it's not that I don't mind but I really like having you around the shop."
"Oh," I breathed, a flush rising to my cheeks.
"Yeah," he muttered quietly and looked away. He reached up and rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly and quickly added, "You bring the tea shop a lot of business!"
"Oh," I said again, this time less excited. "Yeah I guess so," I muttered dejectedly.
"Well that's not it," Lee quickly followed up. "I mean I like your presence in the tea shop, you're really nice and tip well and ugh that's not what I mean I am just going to stop talking."
"I think that would be for the best," I chuckled. Then I looked at him again. He was so unbearably cute and I was sure I would never get another opportunity like this again, so I decided to go for it. "Look, I think you're really cute. Want to go out sometime?"
"Uh, I just held a knife to your throat," he responded dumbly. I rolled my eyes.
"Yes, now. Date?"
"He would love to!" A voice shouted from the opening of the alley. The old man who ran the tea shop, Iroh, walked towards us.
"Uncle!" Lee called indignantly. "Why are you here?"
"I was worried when you left so abruptly and good thing I came because you almost would have messed up this date with this lovely girl," Iroh shot me a wink.
"How long were you there?" Lee asked, a flush of embarrassment rising to his cheeks.
"Long enough," he quickly responded. "How about tonight at sundown in front of the shop," Iroh asked me.
"Sure," I nodded. "He's gotta make up for this whole endeavor somehow," I smirked and shot Lee a look. With that, I waved goodbye to the two guys and headed off to pick up Cam. This wasn't such a bad day afterall.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Okay Cam, I want you right in bed at sundown, you hear me? No waiting up for me."
"Why, you planning to be out late with your boyfriend?" Cam shot back all too happily.
"No, because you have your lesson at sunrise," I said quickly, making sure I had everything I needed. Would Lee pay? I wasn't sure but I brought my purse just in case. "I worked hard to get us to the middle ring so that you could have a proper teacher and I will not have you being late!"
I felt Cam roll his eyes and sigh at me. "Yes, mom," he groaned. "At least tell me his name."
I turned to Cam, pursing my lips. I had tried to keep this whole date a secret from him, but having a nosy 12 year old in the house wasn't conducive to secrets. He had found out shortly after I picked him up, asking why I was late and accusing me of being out with a boy. When I flushed and stammered in response, he jumped on the opportunity. That was his go to accusation, it just so happened that this time he was right. Not in the way he thought, of course, but partially I suppose. I mean I did ask Lee out on a date.
I thought for a moment, then figured Cam would find out at some point who it was, especially if we went on more dates. I tried not to get my hopes up at the thought.
"It's Lee."
Cam gasped dramatically. "From the tea shop?"
"Yes from the tea shop," I huffed and spun on my heel. I walked over to a mirror hanging on the wall and checked my makeup one more time. I needed to leave soon if I was going to make it on time.
"To imagine, a love blooming from malicious stalkering-"
"I keep thinking you cannot get more stupid and then you prove me wrong every single time," I sighed.
Cam gasped dramatically again. "Wounded, by my own sister!" He cried. "Besides, am I wrong that you stalk him? I bet what happened was he confronted you about your stalker-ering and you were all like 'I've always been in love with you, since the beginning of time-'"
"Oh hush." I turned towards the door so that he couldn't see my blush. I mean, he wasn't that wrong. Lee did confront me about the stalk- watching of him, and I did confess in a way. "I am leaving now. When will you be in bed?"
"By sundown," Cam responded in a high pitched voice, obviously mocking me.
"Okay, bye. Be good," I said as a final goodbye and left.
My walk to the Jasmine Dragon was uneventful at best. Once I got there, I saw Lee outside. He was wearing a nice suit, his hair parted in the middle and slicked to each side. I whistled as I approached.
"Nice 'do, hot stuff," I grinned. He turned to face me, and unless I was mistaken, a blush rose to his cheeks.
"You look beautiful," he blurted, then flushed a bright red that I knew I wasn't imagining.
I was caught off guard by his blatant confession, and I felt a heat creep up my neck. "Uh, thank you. You don't look to bad yourself, though I do think I like your hair all messy better."
"Oh." Zuko reached up and ruffled it, messing it all up. "Like that," he smiled.
"Like that."
"It took my uncle ten minutes to do my hair," he commented.
"Well it took you a few seconds to mess it up, now come on, let's go. I know a great restaurant that's super cheap but super good," I said and grabbed his hand, tugging him after me.
Eating was awkward if anything. Lee wasn't the biggest conversationalist, not wanting to talk about anything about himself, and the food was mediocre at best. It was cheap, though.
"Let's split the bill," I said when we were done eating. Lee opened his mouth to argue, but I stopped him. "I picked the place so it is partially my fault the food was so bad."
"I didn't know you were in the kitchen," Lee smirked.
"You don't know a lot of things about me," I grinned cheekily. At that, Lee's face darkened. He was hiding something big, I knew it. It was probably something about his past, seeing as he was so guarded about it.
"Come on," I said, breaking the tense silence. "Let's get out of here."
The waiter arrived and we paid our check. Luckily, they gave us two cups of tea to go. I took mine and Lee took his and we were on our way.
"Ugh," I groaned, sipping my tea. "This is disgusting, its so cold."
"Here," Lee reached out and took it from me. He held onto it for a second then handed it back. Miraculously, it was hot when he handed it back.
"What the..." Then it hit me. The only way he could have done that was if he was a firebender. I looked up at him in surprise, ready to make a run for it, but then I took another look at him. It wasn't like a Earth bender gave him that scar, and he was here for a reason, probably to start over. That's why he was so defensive about who he was when he questioned me earlier today. So I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. He hadn't hurt me yet, and he didn't hurt me when we thought we were alone in that alley, so I doubted that he'd hurt me now.
"Thanks," I finally decided on with a smile. I let him walk me back to my place, knowing Cam was probably still awake. When we reached my door, I turned to him. "Thank you for taking me out."
"Thank you for uh, not getting mad I held a knife to your throat," he replied, shyly rubbing the back of his neck.
"Well, I don't know if I'm still over that," I said with a small smirk. "I might need another date to see if I forgive you."
Lee's eyes darkened. "I don't know if I can do this-"
"Oh come on," I sighed. "I liked spending time with you, I hope you liked spending time with me. It's not like we're going to get married, just hang out a bit more. Come on, one more date and that's it."
Lee sighed. "One more date. And that's it."
"And that's it." I agreed with finality.
After that, we started going out on dates every few days. We went to festivals together, tried out new restaurants, and even went out on picnics. It was on one of those picnics that I finally decided to confess to him. We were up on a hill under the shade of a great tree, looking out over the sprawling city. We had lapsed into silence.
"I need to tell you something-" We both said at the same time. We both flushed and turned away.
"You first," I said.
"No you." I stayed silent, staring at Lee expectantly until he sighed and caved. "Fine. I think... Well look. There's still so much you don't know about me. I've done some pretty horrible things in my past."
"I think people can change," I asserted.
Lee shook his head. "Terrible, horrible things. Things no one should ever dream of doing. But I did them. I thought that I had lost my honor and that somehow my father could restore it to me... but now... now I am not so sure." He turned to me and grabbed my hands. "Ever since I met you I've felt like I was an impostor, a fake pretending to be someone I wasn't. Now I think this is me." He sighed and closed his eyes. "What I'm trying to say it that I think I'm falling in love with you and it scares me."
I leaned up and moved to kiss him, but he pulled away. "Why?" I said, hurt in my voice.
Lee grasped both of my cheeks and pulled our foreheads together. "Listen, I have to do something before we can be together. I need to make up for my mistakes. I got a message last night inviting my uncle and I to serve tea to the King. I think it's a trap. The Avatar is in the city which means my sister is not far behind."
"Your sister... Who are you?" My voice was barely over a whisper, I was surprised it didn't get lost in the wind.
"I am Zuko, Crown Prince of the Fire Nation."
I paused, my head reeling. I knew he was a firebender but the prince? The prince of the Fire Nation? It was a lot to take in. Luckily he gave me my time and waited patiently for my next question. "And you think its a trap but you're still going to go?" I asked in bewilderment.
"Yes. I need to stop running away from my destiny. You helped me realize that I'm not bad, I can be good."
"What is your destiny?" I asked breathlessly.
"To teach the Avatar firebending."
I pulled my head away from his so that I could get a good look at him. "Then go. And don't you dare not think about coming back for me."
"I will." Lee- no, Zuko looked like he was hesitating, then he pulled me into ferocious kiss, stealing my breath away from me. When we separated,  we placed our foreheads together, gasping for air, our breaths intermingling.
"You have no idea how long I have been waiting to do that," I gasped, but smiled.
"I feel the same," Zuko smiled too. "Now come on, let's go."
With that, he walked me home and then walked right out of my life, leaving me to wonder if I would ever see him again.

Seams
Ruby is falling apart at the seams, and Blake doesn't know if the rest of them will be able to put her back together if she breaks.
Set in v8 between the end of episode 8 and Yang calling to let them know that they're on their way. Enjoy!
"Are you okay?" Blake asks quietly.
Ruby jumps at the question. A heavy sort of silence had fallen over them after they had discovered what had been inside the Grimm (and all the disturbing implications that came with that discovery), lingering as they'd moved Penny back up to Weiss' room and cleaned up as best they could. Blake's soft question feels almost taboo, shattering the quiet, but it needs to be done.
After all, she'd seen the depths of Ruby's despair earlier. The younger girl can't possibly keep going like this. She's falling apart at the seams, and Blake doesn't know if the rest of them will be able to put her back together if she breaks. Someone needs to talk to her, and with May headed for Mantle, Nora asleep, Weiss downstairs talking to her family, and Penny—out for the moment, it's the closest they're going to get for a private conversation.
"I'm fine," Ruby tries to reassure her, quickly recovering from her shock. "A bit sore, but once my aura kicks in I'll be good as new." She shoots Blake a small smile, a pathetic facsimile of her usual cheerful grin.
It doesn't even come close to reaching her eyes.
Blake isn't fooled. "That's not what I meant."
"Huh?" Ruby tips her head, looking confused. "Blake, what are you talking about?"
If Ruby thinks that playing dumb is going to get her out of this conversation, she's sorely mistaken. "What you were saying earlier, before that Grimm attacked. I'm worried about you."
"Oh, that?" Ruby waves a hand, as if brushing away the question. She looks flustered. "That was—nothing, really. Just heat of the moment, I was feeling sorry for myself instead of just doing what needed to be done. I'm fine now, really."
"Ruby." Blake arches an eyebrow. "Do you really think that I'm going to fall for that?"
"Blake—" Ruby's voice sounds brittle.
"I know that things have been hard lately." And if that isn't a massive understatement. "And we're all struggling to deal right now. You've been doing a great job, getting us through this. But we're worried about you. Please, just talk to me."
"I can't!" Ruby chokes out, shaking her head and turning away from Blake. She sounds dangerously close to tears.
"Why not?" Blake asks gently, stepping forwards so that she and Ruby are facing each other once again.
It's a reasonable question, but Ruby looks completely taken aback. "I—" Ruby clears her throat, fixing her eyes on the floor in front of her. "I'm the leader," she mumbles, sounding absolutely miserable. "I can't just fall apart like that, not when there's so much at stake. I can't burden you guys with my problems when you already have so much to deal with."
Ruby looks utterly wrecked, despondent, exhausted, enormous dark circles under her eyes, her face pale and drawn. Blake's never wanted to hug someone so badly in her life.
So that's what she does, stepping forward and wrapping her arms around Ruby before she can even think about turning away or protesting or anything silly like that. She's gentle but firm, mindful of Ruby's injured ribs. It's not one of Yang's infamous bear hugs, but hopefully it'll help.
Ruby gasps in surprise, stiffening briefly before she melts into the warmth of the hug. "Blake," she murmurs weakly, as if she's going to complain. In the end she just sighs heavily before falling silent.
"Don't be ridiculous," Blake tells her, tone fierce but voice soft. She rests her chin on top of Ruby's head. "Just because you're our leader doesn't mean that you're not a person with feelings. You're allowed to struggle, and you're allowed to be upset." Blake takes a deep breath. Ruby has gone completely still in her arms, seeming more relaxed than she has in days. "And Ruby? You could never be a burden to us. We're your friends. We want you to talk to us about this stuff. It hurts to see you pretend that everything is fine when it's so clearly not."
Ruby sniffles quietly. Blake can feel the front of her shirt growing damp., but she couldn't care less. All that matters right now is helping her friend.
"Thanks, Blake," Ruby murmurs. She sounds drained, but less depressed than before. "It's just—hard to say it, sometimes. I'm not very good at talking about this kind of thing."
"Really? I hadn't guessed," Blake quips, her tone dry, but not unkind. Ruby chuckles wetly. "You let the rest of us lean on you so much, it's your turn to lean on us for a change."
"I just—I don't know what to do," Ruby admits, her voice barely above a whisper. "There's so much wrong right now, so much that we need to fix, that I don't know where to even start. And it feels like if I think about it too much, or if I let myself feel scared, I'll just end up drowning in it."
"You won't," Blake assures her. She can feel Ruby start in surprise at the confidence in her voice. "You're one of the strongest people I've ever met. I know that you can get through this. And it's okay if you struggle along the way. But burying your feelings and pushing us away isn't going to help. You don't always have to know what to do next. We can help you figure it out. It's okay to not be okay."
"Thanks, Blake," Ruby says again, pulling away slightly and scrubbing at her eyes. "I think I really needed to hear that. And—I'll try to let myself lean on you guys more, okay?"
"That's all we can ask," Blake replies with a smile, drawing light circles between Ruby's shoulder blades with her fingertips. "Just so long as you know you're not dealing with everything on your own."
The sky outside is still dark, the city is still under attack, and the people of Atlas and Mantle are in danger, but so long as they stay together, they'll be able to find a way to fix things.

Motion Sickness Chapter 29
pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq
(Weiss POV)
Jaune approached me with a backflip.
He flew across the ground, sword and shield in hand, reversed, floating tractionless, and backflipped at me.
Whatever machinations he had in his mind led him to using the shield with a longsword rather than the titanic broadsword. His shield was a giant lowercase 't' shape as he flew about.
I waved my weapon through the air and pinpricks of light followed it. The light hovering in place before it flickered out in a projectile at him.
He flipped past the projectiles without blocking them and slashed at me twice with the straight blade, it was a little over three feet long. I had to engage him with Myrtnaster directly. My own weapon was shorter than his. In a battle of straight range I'd lose.
I tried to fence at him but he was strong enough to shove my weapon out of the way and send me spinning. I didn't fight the motion, I wanted the space from him. I summoned part of my knight. Just the right arm and his sword, I grunted with the exertion of the summoning.
Jaune caught the massive sword on his shield. He had to brace with both hands behind his shield, but he held. It was his turn to grunt with exertion. He spent his semblance, and threw the blade off of him. He looked visibly upset about spending his semblance on a defensive manner. His face was dark and scrunched in a scowl. He had to take physical steps on his next assault against me.
Imagine.
Jaune wasn't like he used to be. That much was obvious from even our little chats. His and Yang's fight just drew it out and this, our sparring match, was icing on the cake. He had a strategic mind second to none of us and his instincts were sharp and finely tuned towards the Grimm according to Ruby. He'd read the Knuckelavee with little more to go on than footprints. It wasn't his experience with the Grimm but a preternatural sixth sense about where it would go, how it would fight. A true hunter's sense.
Now with his semblance and strength he had the power to back that up. He was a threat. A real honest to Gods threat.
He met me again but without his Limit Break he wasn't fast enough to out-spar me. I fenced him with thrusts that met his shield and he tried to counter attack from behind it with a strike that I blocked but sent my teeth ringing. I couldn't imagine trying to block constantly like Yang had when his semblance was active. He was unearthly strong even without it and it only made him stronger while active by an order of magnitude, according to Ruby.
I couldn't believe that Ruby had found a boyfriend before I did. It was unbelievable! And she'd had sex-
Jaune hammered me like a nail with his shield. Then he clipped me with his weapon.
I'd gotten distracted.
I gathered a glyph behind me and in front of me behind Jaune then darted between it Jaune and the next glyph then I summoned another, and another. I tore into his aura, ripping into it as I darted from one glyph to the next. I did damage until I activated his own semblance. Then he reached out and tried to grab me by his shield hand.
I'd seen that before and dodged it but I had to back off. I summoned my knight, this time I had enough spare breaths to call forth the entire body of the knight. Jaune stared it down with a growl and rolled his shield wrist, checking both of our aura instead of focusing on the fight at hand.
The nerve!
The knight paced forward and tried to crush Jaune but he flew out of the way, low to the ground. He jumped and slammed his shield into my knight's chest. It rocked the silver specter. My knight fell right to its knees but it punched Jaune center of mass with a fist nearly as large as he was.
He rolled with it.
Could he just stay down?
He met the blue and white figure again which was slow to rise unlike Jaune who became a blue blur. He hit my knight with a five hit attack that held Jaune in mid-air while he slashed and carved blue calligraphy into the knight. It collapsed into dissolving white light and I fell with it. My aura was nearly exhausted. I leaned on Myrtnaster which had been stabbed into the ground. Jaune came falling down on me with both hands on his sword in a massive overhead strike. He faltered when he saw I'd fallen and he nearly fell on his face in his attempt to cancel the attack he already had momentum behind.
Maybe he was still a little clumsy.
"You out?" He asked like he didn't already know. Ruby had insisted we hook up our scrolls to Jaune's so he could monitor us in a real fight.
I panted and nodded up at him and he offered me his shield hand. He easily pulled me to my feet.
"Thanks."
"No problem," he dismissed.
"About you and Ruby…”
He grinned. It was a quiet proud grin. Like he was proud of what she and him were. I wondered if Neptune had ever grinned like that about me. I rather doubted it. “What about us?” He asked.
“Have you two really, you know…?”
“A couple times. She let me take her.”
“Just like that?”
“I’m not sure. I don’t think for her it was some big decision. You know what I mean? I think… I could be mistaken… but I think some girls put a lot of stock into their first time. And I don’t think she was like that. I think she wanted the intimacy. Why? Did you and Neptune ever do anything?”
"You defeated me, well done." I tried to change the subject.
"Just today. Tomorrow will be different."
"Plus I was out of practice," I justified.
"Of course," he said to my excuse without a hint of sarcasm. "You probably didn't have the time to practice while in Atlas."
Well, not against another opponent. All I had to work on was my semblance. Even that seemed to pale in comparison to the work he had done on himself.
He'd had real opponents. I told myself. He saw actual combat.
"Jaune you fought Salem's agents, correct?"
"Just the one, but yeah. I did."
"What was he like?"
"He was a faunus. A scorpion faunus." He clarified, thinking. He put a hand on his chin. "He fought with his tail. He was fast and cruel. We only beat him because Ruby snuck up on him while he was playing with me."
"Playing with you how?"
"He was torturing me with his weapons, that’s how I got hurt. He wanted to hurt me before he wanted me to die." Jaune reached down to pull up his shirt and revealed a set of bifurcating scars on his chest and stomach. "We cut off his tail. Sent him packing." Hard muscle rippled beneath the orange scars leading up to a broad well-defined chest.
I stared and shook my head. The scars went deep, were jagged, and brutal looking. This was when he self harmed. It was important to remember that.
"So he was murderous." I went on.
Jaune gave me a strained look. He broke eye contact with me and dropped his shirt. I watched the fabric fall over him.
"He was… he was more than murderous. He liked what he was doing. He introduced himself as Tyrian but I've just been calling him 'The Scorpion.'"
"Tyrian." I murmured. "Was that before or after you and Ruby got together."
"A little after." He answered without hesitation. He didn't even seem to think the question was odd.
"What's it like?"
"What's what like?" He gave me a look of pure Jaune confusion.
"Being with Ruby."
"Oh. Uh… it's mostly the same. We hang out. Talk about our feelings. That sort of thing."
"Except you also…" I trailed off.
"We also kiss. Yes."
Buffoon. He knew I was talking about sex.
"You don't need to worry though," he cut in.
"Why would I be worried?" I wondered, a little offended.
"Well she's your partner. I wanted you to know I had no intention of taking that from you." He hesitated a moment. "Or her." He added.
"Oh. I see."
"Isn't that what you were worried about. Seemed like something was bothering you." He squinted his eyebrows at me.
Well yes. It was that my little immature partner was already having sex with her boyfriend, but I was hardly going to get into that with said boyfriend. Then again she was seventeen. Not at all too young for that kind of thing, besides Ruby actively saw combat. It wasn't like I could honestly say it was a step too far for her. It was just odd then, that I hadn't. Hadn't really considered it, even.
Sure Neptune had been good looking but it wasn't like my thoughts had been on that. Well, maybe occasionally. I just had never trusted him enough. He'd flirt with me then run around and flirt with someone else. I suppose Ruby just trusted Jaune and why not? It sounded like he'd regularly put his life on the line for her. Compared to that, sex seemed small.
It wasn't, of course. My whole team stuck our necks out for each other and we were hardly all… well. I suppose it took an extra special something. An attraction as well as trust and Ruby and Jaune had always been close and gotten along well. Maybe it was just inevitable.
"I was just curious. That's all. The timeline."
He seemed content with that. He nodded along, head bobbing at the words.
"I wanted to talk to you a bit more about Cinder." He’d grown silent earlier when we discussed his revenge.
"Please Weiss, I don't want to talk or think anymore about that."
"Would you rather talk to Ruby about it?"
"Maybe." He hedged, but he continued anyway. "I'm just not ready to let go. Letting go of Pyrrha is just too much to ask of me. I want to be able to, even. I want to live without this burning ache. Not even Ruby has been able to dissuade me of what I must do when Cinder and I cross paths." He repeated softly. "What I must do."
"I don't understand. Don't you care about what you and Ruby have?"
"Of course I do." He said flatly.
"You'll lose it."
"Stop it. I already know that." His tone terse.
"Do you? Don't you know how much she cares about you? We all do."
"Please." I found him begging. Begging. For someone who had grown so strong to actually beg for me to stop as though my words were daggers came as a shock. "I'm not ready to let Pyrrha go. I'm not."
I frowned down my nose at him. I sighed off to one side. "Then let us help you. Let Ruby help you."
"She already is. I'll get there, I promise. I just need more time. Look, just because I'm not ready now doesn't mean I won't ever be. Believe me when I say I want to. I want to be that for Ruby. For all of you."
I looked at Jaune and the realization struck me that he had really been through the ringer but maybe he was actually getting better. He'd said he used to be more depressed and Ruby had helped him through that. Maybe I just had to let her. She'd helped me too.
"You'll talk to Ruby more about it?" I half asked, half demanded.
"I will," he vowed.
"Hey!" Yang harassed. "You two done flirting?"
I sputtered slightly, unable to get my words out at the same time Jaune shouted, "fucking maybe! What's it to you?"
"It's getting on dinner time is what it is," Yang bounced back. "Come on in."
"Fair enough." Jaune sighed. "I am hungry."
"I could eat. I suppose." My stomach betrayed me. Nearly a full day of sparring had left me famished, it was natural. Organic even. Nothing to be embarrassed about.
Jaune smiled down at me, he had nearly a whole head and a half of height on me. "Don't worry. I'll never tell. It’s our little secret.”
Heat crept up my neck a little at that.
pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq pq
Dinner was fish and grilled vegetables. Ren had cooked the flank of salmon up over the course of the afternoon. He was no professional chef but he was good. Grilled broccoli, steamed cauliflower, and salmon steak made a stark contrast to our first dinner here.
It was no less delicious than the soup and noodles the night before.
"Yaaaang stop it."
"But look at how much you've grown." Jaune snuck a peak over at where Yang poked Ruby's sides and took a long, long drink.
I wasn't sure who else noticed it but I sure did. I guess Ren and Nora might already know and whatnot. Then only Qrow mattered to Ruby's plans and Yang was too distracted to see the looks Jaune was giving out.
"You've gained a couple inches too, unlike the Ice Queen."
"Hey," I protested around my own drink. "I've grown plenty. At least as much as Ruby did."
"Not where, well, you know," Yang disagreed.
Jaune actively choked and Nora slapped him on the back. Several hard thumps later and he was back to breathing. I glared around the table daring anyone to agree with Yang, none of them did.
I turned my nose up at Yang, though.
"Soon you'll be just like your big sister." Yang went on in Ruby's direction.
Ruby blanched. Somewhere between a gag and a sigh, I was glad she was at least somewhat on my side. "I certainly hope not."
"What's that mean? I thought you wanted to grow up just like me."
"Yeah when I was like six. When was the last time you were in a stable relationship."
Now it was Yang's turn on the backfoot. "Well…"
"I mean you had the occasional fling back at Signal but at Beacon even Weiss got more action than you."
"What do you mean 'even' me." I sort of already knew the answer.
"Neptune." Ruby replied, intentionally missing the point, I was sure.
"Weiss aside, I got plenty of action."
"The only person you danced with at the dance was Blake. Your own partner. She danced with Sun, too, though."
"I was busy, Blake was in a depression. The whitefang and all that." Yang defended. She huffed and looked around the table but nobody else said anything. Jaune had his head down in his food and Nora was suspiciously quiet. Stones and glass houses and all that.
"So, about this mission." I had to wonder. Changing the subject was just a pleasant bonus. "Isn't about time somebody made some decisions about it."
"Well Jaune was intentionally keeping things free in case somebody had some ideas about it." Ruby explained. "But yeah. No sense in delaying the inevitable."
"I was thinking Ren and I case the joint first." Jaune took a bite of salmon steak. "Get a layout of the interior. Then we wait and slip you girls in when the good Don makes a stop by."
"We could always ambush him when he's coming and going," Ruby returned.
"I thought we'd rather keep the fighting in the streets to a minimum," Jaune disagreed.
"But on the inside, won't they know we don't work there?" I cut in. We couldn't just walk in and pretend to be one of the girls. There was no way it was that simple.
"Maybe. It depends on what kind of outfits you are wearing. From my understanding all the girls wear these bee outfits. Hence the name, Honey Bee Inn." Jaune explained. At Ruby's look he went on. "Qrow told me. I have uh-yet to be inside the establishment."
"We just need to get our hands on a set of those then," Nora slammed her fork on the table. "Preferably more than one."
"This seems ripe for disaster," I chipped in. The entire heist my friends were planning was fit to collapse if just one of a thousand things went wrong.
"Which is why whoever goes in will wear a wire. Qrow and I have been rigging something up," Jaune went on.
"Is there an alternative? We need to get those keys," Yang wondered at me. "We'll just threaten to rip his dick off. That'll make him comply."
"The problem isn't that. It's getting in position to do that," I disagreed. "If it was so easy to threaten and bully him, the Malachites would have done it."
"We need information, then." Ruby concluded. "Jaune, why don't you see what else you can find out about the Don with Qrow. Then the rest of us will have Ren check out the inn and see if we can't smuggle ourselves in. If we can get in once, we can get in twice. Preferably with those costumes the second time."
Ren sighed and Jaune leaned back. "I bet I can find a few people who'll tell me something about him. I'm not sure how much I want to know about his proclivities, though."
"You're not one of the ones getting close to the guy who frequents the brothel." Yang pointed her fork at him. Jaune raised his hands in surrender. "I'm the one getting close to those proclivities."
Gross. Maybe Yang was right about me being prudish and maybe I shouldn't fight her on it. I certainly wanted to be nowhere near the man but I had the feeling I'd be getting closer than I liked to the despicable Don.

The Best Present (RWBY AU Snippet)
Death sat in her temple and brooded. It wasn’t often that she brooded. She was normally more cheerful, and it was a good thing too. A depressed and broody Death usually meant a dead everything else. That said, she felt she was entitled to a bit of gloom and doom this time of year. In her lap, Zwei made a comforting sound and nudged her with his head.
“Hmm... I wish my temple was this grand and magnificent.”
Death turned her attention to the large man in red and white clothing who had strode through the doors of her temple. “Santa...”
Santa gave her a fond smile and gestured vaguely at the rest of the temple. “It’s a little bit dour don’t you think?”
Death chuckled. “Well... I am Death.” Her temple’s interior decor usually favoured red more than black, but this time of year was an exception. None of her clergy were old enough to remember when she’d first made the change, but they knew better than to question one of her few direct edicts. “Is this a business call?”
The jolly spirit of Christmas shook his head. “Not really, just a visit to an old friend.”
Old was an appropriate term. Of all the beings associated with civilisation, Santa was one of the oldest. He had existed ever since the first gift had been given while Death had existed since before the concept of time itself. To say that they were old friends was something of an understatement. After all, they were two of the most powerful cookie-loving entities in existence, and Death had been mistaken for him one more than one occasion due to her ability to seemingly go wherever she wanted and know whether or not people had been good or bad.
“I thought you’d be busy, you know, since it is Christmas Eve and all.”
Santa pulled two glasses of milk out of thin air along with two plates of cookies. He handed one glass to Death along with one of the plates of cookies. “We both know that I can be everywhere at once if I have to, maybe not all the time, but on this night, at least.”
Death dipped one of the cookies into the milk and took a bite. As expected of Santa, it tasted perfect. “So...?”
“It occurs to me,” Santa said. “That you’ve been a very good girl for a very, very, very long time, but you’ve never gotten a gift from me.”
Death chuckled. “You’re only supposed to give gifts to mortals.”
“True, but I am also supposed to bring Christmas cheer to all, so you can see my conundrum. You, one of my oldest and best friends, get sad every Christmas, which really won’t do.” Santa dipped one of his own cookies. “So I thought to myself, why not get Death a gift? True, I’m not as powerful as you are, but I’m not bound by the same restrictions either since my power isn’t truly mine in the way yours is yours.”
Death nodded. “The gifts you give people are determined by how good they’ve been. It’s such a part of your legend that it’s become a restriction of sorts.”
“A bothersome one at times,” Santa admitted. “But not in this case. And, as I’ve said, you’ve been a very good girl for aeons and aeons, so you’re due for something special.” Santa’s eyes crinkled. “Now, I can't make any promises, but you’ve built up a lot of credit, so to speak. Would you like to cash it in?”
Death raised one eyebrow. “Cash it in?”
“There’s not a lot I can give you with only one year’s worth of being good, but if you count all of the Christmases in the past where you’ve been good and never gotten anything... well, I might be able to get you something you’ve always wanted although I can’t make any promises.” Santa’s smile was warm and kind. “So... want to give it a try?”
“I suppose I could.” Death chuckled. “It’s not like I’ve got any other use for the ‘credit’ I’ve built up.”
“Even so, I need to hear you say it.” Santa grinned. “Restrictions and rules and all that.”
Death shrugged. “All right. Very well. I, Death, formally announce that I wish to use all of my accumulated Christmas credit to get the best gift ever. Will that do?”
“It just might.” Santa gave Death the rest of his cookies. He’d only eaten one. “I know that this time of year might make you sad, but on Boxing Day, take a walk around. You’ll be surprised by the happiness you find.”
Death walked around disguised as a mortal. Zwei was with her, disguised as a mortal dog. The pair of them were walking through one of the busier entertainment districts. It was Boxing Day, so there were actually quite a few people out and about. Most of them were families eager to watch a movie or have a Boxing Day lunch with their extended family at a restaurant.
Her lips twitched. She wondered what Weiss would think about movies and modern restaurants and all the rest of it. The queen had been quite amazed when Death had told her about some of the things the future would bring, and she’d never been entirely sure if Death had been joking or serious. Ah. It had been so fun to tease Weiss.
Idly, she wondered what Santa would give her. After all, she was Death. There was very little she couldn’t simply get herself if she was so inclined. Of course, the one thing she wanted was one of the very few things she couldn’t get. For reasons that were now obvious to her, she was forbidden from interfering with the great Cycle that governed the death and rebirth of mortal souls. In a way it was a good thing. Otherwise, there was no end to the tampering she’d do to ensure Weiss came back to her.
Death sighed. She’d promised Weiss that she would wait for her. What was a thousand years to a god like her? What was ten thousand? But she hadn’t counted on how much she’d changed. Those years with Weiss... she’d stopped marking time the way gods did and started thinking about it in more mortal terms. And to a mortal a century was a long, long time, to say nothing of how long millennia felt.
Still, there was something nice about being out here. The families bustling back and forth, the people eager to enjoy a Boxing Day sale or two... it all had an atmosphere that was difficult for the fest of the year to match and -
Someone ran into her. It spoke volumes about how lost Death was in her thoughts that she hadn’t move out of the way. It wasn’t like anyone could hurt her, but she would normally have avoided a collision simply to avoid the hassle that often came when mortals bumped into one another. And the last thing she needed was for people to realise that a god walked amongst them. She got enough veneration at her temple. She didn’t need anymore here.
But all of those thoughts ceased to matter the moment she laid eyes on the person who’d bumped into her.
It was a young woman, one wearing an Atlas University sweater to help with the winter chill. And Death would have known her and her soul anywhere.
Weiss.
“I am so sorry!” Weiss cried as she reached into her pockets for a handkerchief. “I got coffee all over you!”
Death belatedly noticed that Weiss had indeed spilled coffee all over her. Wait... coffee was normally hot enough to hurt mortals. “Um... ouch.”
Weiss blinked and stopped dabbing at the coffee on Death’s coat. “Um... ouch?” She winced as the very obvious stain on Death’s coat refused to lighten despite her efforts. “I think I’ve ruined your coat.”
“It’s fine.” Death was smiling like an idiot, but she didn’t care. Weiss was here. She was here. Unbidden, Santa’s words came back to her. He wasn’t bound by the same rules as she was, and his power, although fleeting, could be truly incredible given the right circumstances... like when giving a gift to someone with aeons of good behaviour saved up.
Weiss bit her lip. “It looks like an expensive coat though.” She looked about furtively, and Death fought the urge to kiss the frown off her face. Death didn’t give a crap about the coat. It was something she’d created with her power as part of her disguise. “Look... I feel bad about ruining your coat, and I do have some gift vouchers for the coffee shop over there.” She pointed. “Can I make it up to you?”
Coffee with Weiss? Death grinned. “I suppose you could.” At her feet, Zwei gave a happy bark. “Oh, and this is my dog.”
“He’s adorable!” Weiss bent down, and Zwei licked her hand. “Wow. It’s like he already knows me.”
“You’d be surprised.” Death’s grin widened. “So... tell me about yourself.”
Zwei watched as his mistress and Weiss talked over coffee. It had been a long time since he’d seen Death smile so much. He had suspected that this would be Santa’s gift. It was the only thing his mistress wanted that she could not get for herself despite her awesome powers... which was why he’d sought out Santa not long after his meeting with Death.
Even if Santa could somehow arrange a meeting between Death and Weiss, that still left them with a problem. At some point, Weiss would die again. If Death had to wait so long to see her again, well, it might be even worse this time than the last time.
But maybe there was a way to fix that...
And Zwei wasn’t called the best dog in Creation for nothing.
“So... you want to trade in all of your Christmas credit as well?” Santa had asked him.
Zwei had nodded. He would gladly trade in all his Christmases if it meant getting Weiss back more easily from now on. If Santa really could affect the Cycle, then maybe he could guarantee a more regular rebirth schedule for Weiss as well. Besides, it wasn’t like he’d be getting nothing out of it. It was Weiss. He loved having her around, and he was sure to get plenty of naps in her lap, belly rubs, and treats to compensate him for his trouble.
“You really are a good boy, aren’t you?” Santa nodded. “Very well. I’ll do what I can. With all the credit you’ve saved up, it should be enough.” He scratched Zwei behind the ears. “And maybe pay a visit to the North Pole soon. It’s been ages since you and Rudolph got to hang out.”

Speculation on the Historical Influences on the Kyoshi Warriors of Avatar
(Disclaimer: I know there are multiple influences. This is just something I found that I thought was really interesting. And we’re not going to get into how ATLA appropriated, appreciated, and cherry-picked Asian cultures. This is just a fun thing I found out. It might just be a coincidence. If you wanted an essay on “how terrible Bryke is”, go under the “anti bryke” tag and laugh at the toxicity. This is about history.)
I don’t know if this has been done already, but I was really excited when I found out, so I had to share!
So, I’m not quite sure how I found this out, but I think I was both off-and-on researching premodern combat weapons of different cultures (link here if you want to spend a few hours ogling swords and daggers) and trying to figure out what kinds of cultural things influenced the Kyoshi Warriors. I figured out (at least I’m pretty sure I did, sword experts feel free to correct me) that they do, in fact, wield the Japanese katana (I don’t know which period. Not trying to lump anything together, just thought it was best to refer to it as a collective for fear of being wrong). This was kind of odd to me, as the Earth Kingdom appeared to have *mainly* Tang and Qing dynasty influences. So I decided to dig a little deeper on this subject.
(SECOND Disclaimer: People more well-versed in the different parts of Asian culture I will be referencing can tell me I’m wrong in the comments and I’ll edit this. I really and truly am not trying to be offensive or say my opinion is correct blindly, but at the same time, I did do my research and that has to count for something.)
Introduction
I’m an ATLA nut, as well as an Asian women’s dress nut. I’ve made connections between real clothing and ATLA clothing before, but then realized that other people had already done it, and done it much better.
But I haven’t seen anyone really talk about the inspiration behind the Kyoshi Warriors yet, besides a few mentions, so here I am with my two cents!
The First Thing (Swords)
The first thing I noticed that started me on this quest was realizing that the Kyoshi Warriors wield katanas (also called nihonto), as opposed to a Chinese weapon that would be more fitting for their position in the Earth kingdom (like we see with Jet’s hook swords).
For clarification, I figured this out by using still frames of Suki from the show, then measuring the rough length of her sword to her height, approximating the length to see if it would be correct (it was). Then I watched the video of the Kyoshi Warriors’ fight with Team Azula, which is (if I’m not mistaken) the only time we actually see them use their swords as well as their fans.
Tumblr media
In a few frames, we can see Suki’s sword has the characteristic tsuka ito (cord wrap) around the hilt of her sword, a gold-colored habaki (blade collar), as well as a golden kashira (butt cap/pommel), paired with a golden fuchi (a band at the end of the handle before the tsuba (guard)) to make a fuchigashira. From what I can gather, these are usually intricately decorated, but we can blame early 2000s animation for exempting that detail.
But anyway, the presence of the katana got me thinking. What other Japanese influences are displayed in the Kyoshi Warriors?
(Actually, scratch that. The first thing that got me clued in to the presence of Japanese influence was the red and white makeup that the Warriors wear. It seemed similar to that of the geisha, but I disregarded this as it wasn’t similar enough to warrant real research on my part. Just google ‘geisha makeup’ and you’ll see what I mean.)
And the answer was: a good few. Something Mina Le (a fashion youtuber) already touched on in her video on Avatar. But the question is, what exactly influenced them?
So, back to katanas. Once I figured out that they wielded katanas, it was a simple conclusion that they drew inspiration from the samurai of feudal Japan.
Tumblr media
War Fans (Tessen)
Another similarity that ties them into samurai are their characteristic fans.
I actually learned about the art of Japanese war fans (tessenjutsu) before I even watched Avatar. The fans called tessen are made out of iron, but the other types of war fans, gunsen and gunbai, don’t seem to fit the bill for what the Kyoshi Warriors use them for. So, instead of being made of iron, their fans are made out of a golden metal, probably to fit their gold-and-green aesthetic.
Tumblr media
An illustration of a warrior using a tessen.
The way they use these tessen to fight is debatably accurate. I have never studied tessenjutsu, nor do I really trust modern videos of tessenjutsu, so I have no basis. But it is said that wielders would use one to attack and one to parry, and that does seem to be somewhat what they do? Not sure if their forms or usage or that one time that one girl threw both her fans at Azula like some sort of razor-sharp Frisbee is accurate. Tessenjutsu practitioners, feel free to correct me!
But all this talk about fans and swords isn’t coming to the real core of my speculation. There is one crucial fact: samurai are men. But the Kyoshi Warriors are girls. Were there any female samurai?
The Onna-Bugeisha
Yes, there were! They were called onna-bugeisha, literally meaning “female martial artist.” You can read more about the onna-bugeisha on their Wikipedia page.
Tumblr media
Let’s start with the similarities between the Kyoshi Warriors and the onna-bugeisha.
Clothing/Armor
The first, and most obvious, is their clothing. The onna-bugeisha appear to wear both the traditional kimono or large, loose pants in illustrations. This really does seem to differ a lot based on source material, and I’m not knowledgeable enough to really affirmatively say why. But they do appear wearing the pants when riding horses, and the kimono when they’re standing or looking super regal in the illustrations.
Tumblr media
Empress Jingū, a mythological example of onna-bugeisha. She became empress after her husband, the fourteenth emperor Chūai, was slain in battle. She is said to have led an expedition to Korea around 200 AD, and was the first woman on a Japanese banknote. This illustration is probably not accurate, as it was made by a European man, but it does illustrate one of the earliest known cases of onna-bugeisha in Japanese culture.
Tumblr media
Hangaku Gozen, a famous general of the Genpei War (allied with the Taira clan).
Tumblr media
The Kyoshi Warriors!
Bryke/the animators chose the dress route for making the Kyoshi Warriors, dressing them in split-front dresses colored in shades of green, with a dark green layered underdress under a lighter green overdress crossed left over right at the collar (like many, many different kinds of traditional Asian women’s dress). The coloration appears to be more to signify “Earth Kingdom” than to be historically accurate to the onna-bugeisha, something that was probably a good idea. Remember, this was made to be a kids’ adventure show, and they had already established the color-coding based on country.
The sleeves are voluminous, which is definitely a characteristic of the onna-bugeisha. They are cinched at the wrists with dark cuffs, which isn’t a characteristic of all the different illustrations/photographs, but is certainly present in some. These cuffs are paired with two-toned gloves, which are always a good idea in any kind of weapon battle, but aren’t present in many, if any, photographs, but at least in some illustrations.
Partially covering the dresses is the thing that most tipped me off: the armor. It seems to be of black plating, which bears a striking resemblance to the plating/ridging on the onna-bugeisha’s armor. The chestplate itself bears a really, really close resemblance (if it isn’t an exact copy) to the chestplates of the onna-bugeisha, though the color isn’t the striking red that seems to appear a lot of the time. The rectangular shoulder/upper arm plating that is present in nearly all depictions is severely lacking, however, though this seems to be a choice to make the Warriors seem less bulky and more dynamic. Plus, it would be easier to animate. (They do have slimmer shoulder plates that attach, though.)
But the (for lack of a better word) skirt plates of the armor remain really, really similar to the onna-bugeishas’ armor. It really just looks like a scaled-down, black instead of red version. And I think that’s super cool, and one of the best pieces of evidence that backs my theory.
Topping off the “Kyoshi look” are gold-and-green headpieces that are different depending on the warrior, and a hairstyle that differs depending on the warrior. I’ll probably go more in-depth about the headpieces and hairstyles on a different post, but the gist is that yes, the presence of headpieces is historically accurate, at least in some photos/illustrations (which appears to be the norm. Can I ever get something concrete here?).
Tumblr media
Examples of onna-bugeisha wearing headpieces.
All of them wore helmets (obviously), but some seem to have some sort of decorative aspect (again, tell me if I’m wrong and the pieces have a meaning or purpose).
Edit: One commenter, @atla-headcanons, said that their Japanese grandmother once said that warriors’ headdresses were status symbols, as well as ways to tell allies from enemies. This would be supported by the fact that Suki, as the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors, would have a headpiece similar to Kyoshi’s, and the rest of the Warriors would have different ones. I was unable to fact-check this at the time (may return to it later), but it seems likely, and it would be really cool if it was intentional on the characters’ designs!
Avatar Kyoshi
The second thing that made me speculate whether the Kyoshi Warriors were connected to the onna-bugeisha was actually Kyoshi herself.
Tumblr media
We all know about badass Avatar Kyoshi. She’s amazing. A definite certified badass. But there might actually have been a real-world counterpart to her. Nakano Takeko, a famous onna-bugeisha of the Aizu Domain who fought and died in the Boshin War, could have been possible inspiration for her.
Tumblr media
Statue of Nakano Takeko. I don’t trust that the pictures on Pinterest are actually her.
Not only is Nakano a certified badass, taking down five to six men with her naginata in the Battle of Aizu, she also taught women and children to fight with the naginata for a time. Sound familiar? It might just be a coincidence, but I’m sticking to my theory here. You can read more about her here, but I’ll give a rundown of the highlights that make her a Kyoshi-Level Badass™:
- Taught naginata to the lord of Niwase’s wife
- Taught naginata to women and children in Aizuwakamatsu castle
Tumblr media
An onna-bugeisha wielding a naginata. They’re pretty awesome!
-  Worked in defense of the shōgun Tokugawa Yoshinobu
- Fought in the Battle of Aizu using a Japanese weapon (naginata) against a white weapon (guns)
- Created and headed an ad-hoc group of female warriors in the Battle of Aizu, retroactively called the Jōshitai (Girls’ Army). She did this without permission, as the senior Aizu retainers didn’t want them to fight and wouldn’t let them fight as an official part of the domain’s army
- When she was taken down by a rifle shot to her chest, she asked her sister Yūko to behead her so that the enemy couldn’t take it as a trophy. Her sister employed the help of Ueno Yoshisaburō, and did as she was asked
- With the reforms of the Meiji Era (samurai class abolished, western-style army established), Nakano Takeko was one of the last samurai in history.
Conclusion
That concludes my essay! Remember, this is all speculation. If you have your own take, please tell me! I love hearing all the cultural influences in Avatar.
Now, if Bryke meant to make the Kyoshi Warriors to be inspired by the onna-bugeisha, then there is something more that I would have liked to see. It would have been really cool to see them use naginata in the show, as it was actually originally a weapon for females to use, its length compensating for the smaller body size and comparatively lesser brute strength of women warriors.
(Also, I just want Suki utterly destroying Sokka with a naginata in that episode where she kicks his butt to prove a point. Hey, I’m a simple girl with simple tastes.)
Sources:
Basically all Wikipedia. I’m sorry I couldn’t reference, like, ebooks on this subject. But I did look at the reference lists for the Wikipedia articles I used, and they all seemed to be credible ones. So, don’t come at me, please! I did the best I could!
I really appreciate whoever read this far. It takes stamina!
Thanks for reading!

Note
You might have commented back on the forum when I asked before, but just in case... So when Katara said that Sokka wouldn't be so bossy if he kissed a girl, you think that was an attempt at a Y7 variant at telling him to get laid?
Probably, I guess. The fandom seems to have taken it that way, and I suppose it makes sense in being the creator intent. Because no one has ever equated just kissing with a lack of anxiety, at least not in common saying. So it’s likely code for something more risque. As odd as it is for a 14-year-old girl with no romantic experience to be telling her brother to go have sex.
But I always felt that the whole conversation is weird. If you watch ‘Jet’ without the knowledge that Sokka and Katara are siblings, it seems to be framing the whole thing with Jet as something of a love triangle. It starts with Katara teasing Sokka about not having kissed a girl, then Jet shows up and is immediately portrayed as both a rival in masculinity for Sokka as well as a romantic interest for Katara. Jet is the Bad Boy in contrast to Sokka’s responsible but boring persona. And in the end Katara realizes both that Jet is indeed a bad boy and that Sokka’s compassionate sensibility is the way to go. That is a textbook formula for a kid-friendly love triangle subplot.
Compare that to Aang, who’s supposed to be the one with a crush on Katara, taking no notice whatsoever of her infatuation with Jet.
And then there’s the whole conversation about Sokka’s kissing experience, or lack thereof. His objection is, “I-I've kissed a girl! You- just haven't met her.“
Why is he stammering?! Why is the tone of his voice defensive? Why is he claiming that Katara never met Suki?!
Katara’s reply is a smug, “Who? Gran-Gran? I've met Gran-Gran.” Which I guess is reasonable, given the completely unbelievable wording of Sokka’s claim, but you think she might wonder why he showed up to the retreat from Kyoshi Island in Suki’s clothes. But whatever.
And Sokka’s reply is, “No! Besides Gran-gran. Look, my instincts tell me we have a better chance of slipping through on foot and a leader has to trust his instincts.”
...
WHY DIDN’T HE JUST SAY IT WAS SUKI?! IF HE WAS WORRIED ABOUT KATARA NOT KNOWING WHO EXACTLY SUKI IS, WHY NOT SAY IT WAS THE LEADER OF THE KYOSHI WARRIORS?! AANG, AT LEAST, KNOWS SOKKA WAS HANGING OUT WITH HER AND WEARING HER CLOTHES! HE CAN VOUCH!!
It just makes no sense.
I’m convinced ‘Jet’ was initially written with the mistaken belief that Sokka and Katara are both not immediately related and the intended romantic partners for each other, and then it was sloppily revised to avoid implications of incest.
It’s either that or the creative team behind AtLA have very odd relationships with their siblings.
Or maybe I’m the weird one. I admit, that has a high likelihood even independent of the ‘Jet’ shenanigans. I still haven’t kissed anyone, and I’m starting to get gray hairs near my ears.

Rose Puppetry Ch5: Caught in the Web of Mr. Spider
Summary:
A century ago or so, Atlas set out to conquer the world.  Penny was built to be a spy, an infiltrator meant to find weaknesses in Vale’s defenses before the invasion.
She did.  Then she fell in love.  And rebelled against the kingdom that had created her.
Ch1.  Ch2.  Ch3.  Ch4.
Chapter Content Notes: graphic imagery of spiders, violence, character death, attempted murder, stabbing, references to actual character murder, mind control/possession, comas
I would like to take a moment and remind everyone that this fic is roughly inspired by the Mechanism’s album Once Upon A Time (In Space) and that that narrative’s climax is rather gruesome.  Additionally, this chapter especially was influenced by the Magnus Archives, which is a horror podcast.
Please take those facts into consideration prior to reading.
I would also like to remind you all that there is one more chapter after this one, and thus the fic does not conclude here.
“Ruby?”
Penny speaks her beloved’s name over and over again.  Her voice, a cracking repetition of a broken, almost hopeless recording caught on a looping tape.  The mechanical girl who had come and fought so hard can do nothing but stare.  She hopes the sight before her isn’t real, that she’s mistaken, that this isn’t how their story ends.
Some history books will say it is.  They will narrate the story of a miserable failure of a military project.  One who rebelled against her creators, her masters, and cost not only herself, but the one she loved her life.  These history books will be produced in the harsh, cold printing presses that remain loyal to the faltering Atlesian throne.  A desperate attempt to rewrite history in their favor, but not much more than that really.
Other books, ones with a bit more accuracy, will know better.  For even if there is a ‘happily ever after’ or a ‘the end’ to a story, there’s always a moment after that.  Something that happens next.  Right up until the final end of death comes for the characters.
And neither Penny nor Ruby are quite dead yet.
So it really would be a sad, sorry tale that reaches its conclusion here, wouldn’t it?
The rebels infiltrate the menacing fortress to save the innocent girl and are felled by her hand, now corrupted by the darkness that had ensnared her.  No hope of a happy tomorrow.  Simply a brutal, violent end and a laboratory awash in blood.
For that’s what happens when you wander into a spider’s web.  You tend to get caught by the spider.  And, you know, eaten.
The thing, the crucial detail, that must be taken into account about this tale, though.  The one thing those Atlesian history books will try to wipe away and conceal and keep the public from knowing.  The little detail that keeps this ending from being the true ending of the story.
It’s simply that Ruby Rose is not the spider.
Of course, she is something, and historians (and, after them, archivists) will have quite a wondrous time debating amongst themselves what exactly she is.  But, what she is not, is the spider.  The hungry arachnid who waits so long for its prey to come, who binds its meal tightly in silky thread for later consumption.
Some, and they will have fairly strong evidence for their cause, will argue Ruby was simply the first caught in the spider’s web.  Those ones have a valid, if not entirely understanding of the circumstances as a whole, point.
A spider’s web is a sticky, tricky thing.  When you’re all alone in it, you may see little hope of escape, of anything but the spider’s looming, menacing legs, its snapping jaws, or its eight dark, beady eyes.  But that’s only if and when the spider chooses to focus on you.  They are, after all, creatures that can be distracted.  Ones that can decide to eat something—someone—else.  So, maybe Ruby was the spider’s first chosen meal, but she was one left unfinished due to the arrival of an enticing, delectable follow up.
A spider’s web also happens to be a delicate thing and, if put under too much weight, may potentially collapse.
Let us now return to the scene and become observers, ceaseless watchers, to what happens when this particular web takes on quite a bit of weight.
Are you scared yet?  You’re probably wondering if you should be.  It’s natural, of course.  Debating whether or not you should trust the words you read.  Should you stop here?  What if it gets worse?  But, it’s pretty bad here.  Do you really want this ending to be the ending?
What happens when you don’t stop, though?  When you continue reading the words, bringing them into the reality of being Known?  Didn’t expect to be trapped reading a tale without recourse on how to know if the true end is horrible or not without going along with it until it reaches it’s natural conclusion, did you?
Have you considered that, perhaps, it is you who is trapped in the spider’s web?
So, tell me, how much do you really want to know?  You’re curious, aren’t you?  Driven.  Eager to witness all that happens here.  Why would you remain otherwise?
Let’s see how it goes, shall we?
Our story, our statement, resumes.
Ever so slowly, Ruby turns her head and looks at Penny.  There is no recognition, no emotion of any kind on her face.  Ruby blinks, or, rather, she closes her eyelids and opens them again in a movement that could be perceived as a blink.  A movement that makes her a stranger to Penny.
“Ruby,” Penny repeats, as if the simple utterance of the name will break the spell.  No such enchantment that can be so easily undone exists.  Not here.  Not now.
“Remarkable, isn’t it?”
New footsteps echo through the laboratory.  Penny spins around.  Dr. Watts makes his way over from the door.  Each step he takes is measured and calculated.  His past projects, those horrible menaces whispered about in fear, file into the room behind him.
Cinder looks at the scene laid out before her and smirks.  Tyrian laughs.  Hazel blocks the doorway with his bulk.
“For a super weapon, I expected you to be smarter than to simply walk into what was so obvious a trap.”  Dr. Watts chuckles at Penny.  “Foolish of me to underestimate the weakness of love, I suppose.”
“Let.  Ruby.  Go.”  Penny clenches her fists.  She raises her daggers.  She doesn’t have the advantage here, but that won’t stop her.
“If you insist.”  Watts waves a dismissive hand.  With his other, he takes a remote out from his pocket and clicks a button on it.  The clasps around Ruby’s wrists and ankles snap open.  He turns to walk away, but pauses before he exits the laboratory.  “Do try to leave at least some of them intact,” he tells Cinder, Tyrian, and Hazel.  “It would be a pity for so many good bodies to go to waste.”  He exits.
Penny turns to Ruby one last time.  “Ruby…”  This time it’s a begging sob that escapes her lips.  “Please, no.”
Ruby stands.  She reaches around herself, to the sheath attached to her belt.  Her fingers wrap around the hilt of the blade there.  Ruby withdraws the weapon.  There’s no sign she recognizes the desperate plea in Penny’s eyes.
The sword slashes through the air.
Penny dodges.  She retreats away from Ruby’s attack.  Her daggers hover around her.  She can’t bring herself to command them to retaliate.
“Ruby, please, it’s me, it’s Penny!  You have to recognize me!”
Ruby draws back.  For a brief, hopeful second, Penny thinks she’s gotten through to her love.  A small smile appears on Penny’s lips.  It almost immediately falls away.
Ruby lifts her hand not holding the sword.  Around it, thick, black sludge forms.  It branches out into a limb all of its own.  Bleached white claws emerge at its tips, like grotesque fingers.  There’s a second where the Grimm arm moves and shifts, as if adjusting to its own weight.  A twisted smirk appears on Ruby’s face.  She looks between her new appendage and Penny.
Penny’s daggers come to bear a defensive position in front of her without her telling them to.  The Grimm arm tries to dart around them, but the daggers cut through it like butter.  It disintegrates into dust.  Ruby screams.  Her voice is loud, hoarse, and pained.  Penny hesitates, doesn’t take the opening.  She can’t… she doesn’t…she needs to…but it’s Ruby!  RUBY!
She can’t just kill her.  Penny glances behind her, at where she knows her team is, but there is no aid to be found there.  Cinder, Tyrian, and Hazel are on the attack.  The less said about that carnage, the better.  Penny is on her own.  She turns back to Ruby and, with every fiber of her being protesting, she prepares to fight.
I’ll make it quick, Penny tells Ruby in her head.  You don’t deserve this suffering.  I’m sorry.  I’m so, so sorry.
Penny ducks Ruby’s sword, and feigns to the left.
I’m sorry that this is how it ends.
Penny commands her daggers to cut through the Grimm limbs Ruby keeps painfully forming and sending at her.  She refuses to allow herself to wince at the agonizing screams.
I’m sorry you didn’t get to live a long and happy life.
Penny sees her opening.  Ruby has faltered.  Penny allows herself a second to take a breath, and then she lunges.  Her daggers all are pointed forward, ready to complete the death blow.
I’m sorry you ever had the misfortune of knowing me.
Penny’s killing blow doesn’t make its target.  Ruby faked her out.  Midway into Penny’s attack, she dodges.  Penny has no time to change course.  Her eyes widen.  Ruby’s Grimm limbs surround Penny, grab her, hold her.
Horror takes over Penny’s face.  She knows what’s going to happen right before the final Grimm arm makes the plunge into her chest.  Her mind goes blank with the pain.  Whether or not she’s screaming, Penny has no idea.
Ruby’s darkness, her corruption, seeps into Penny, worming its way to the mechanical girl’s heart, her core.  For Penny can only be destroyed if it is.  The Annihilation reaches its target.  It circles its prey, completely surrounding it.  It surges in for the kill.
In that dreadful moment, Death doesn’t come.  It was never going to.  It has, shall we say, a feel, for these things.  It knew, all throughout this battle, how it would end.  Death knew it would not be necessary to send its Reaper here.
The Silver Eye, which had protecting Ruby’s soul and had waited and waited and watched for its opportunity finally found its chance.  When the Grimm entombing it reached out to destroy the one its guardian loved, the Silver Eye, for the first time in its existence, felt something.
Remember, the Eye, on its own, had never been a whole.  It was forged, by the King of Vale, out of the remaining half of the Staff of Creation.  Though it could exist on its own, it never truly stopped longing to find its missing, stolen part.  And, when its prison made that final, almost deadly attack, through those dark tendrils ensnaring it, the Silver Eye finally felt that echo, that reverberation, that it had ached for for so very long.
In that moment, it wakes up and reaches.
Blinding silver light shines out through the laboratory.  Every vestige of Annihilation’s power, every bit of Grimm, inside a person or out, is disintegrated.  For those who have long since opened their arms to Destruction and allowed its influence into themselves, this means Death finally comes for its dues.  For Ruby, who the Silver Eye loves and cherishes, this means purification from her corruption.  For Penny, this means her life is spared and, from within her, the Silver Eye is answered.
Once upon a time, the General King of Atlas found the blueprints for an old inventor’s creation.  He saw it as a grand opportunity to build a great weapon for the glory of his kingdom.  To fuel it, he saw no better resource than his kingdom’s relic itself.  He split the Staff of Creation in half, stored one part away for later use and fashioned the other into a core for the new automaton.
Unbeknownst to him, in doing this, the General King created a mirror to the Silver Eye; the Winter Soul.  A new entity all of its own, it was.  One curious, fascinated about the world around it, and ever so willing to learn.
Is it such a shock then, that was built to be a weapon of immeasurable power turned its back to this objective and instead chose to attempt to understand and love the world it found itself in?  Is it such a shock that it came to love one who would be later chosen to preserve life itself?
Much has been written and recorded about the Fall of Atlas.  There are numerous accounts of the sudden surge of blinding light that shone across the kingdom.  Many theorize, but they do not know the truth of its source.  What they do know is that it wiped out the city’s mainframe and, for the first time in history, Atlas was left vulnerable.  It didn’t take long for the Rebellion’s ships to rise from Mantle and begin that final, gruesome attack after that.
Later, the Rebellion’s charge into Atlas Academy, of their slaughter of the robotic forces of the Atlesian Military, will be dramatized into something far more glorious and far less bloody than it was.  The retellings will focus on the storming of the throne room, of the General King being forced to his knees in surrender, the capture of the notorious Dr. Watts.  They will applaud the victories of the day, and blatantly ignore the executions of the weeks to follow.
And so, Atlas’s web of power collapses, crumpling into a thousand twisting, tangled threads.  The spider, the warmonger, who sat at its center, weaving and warping the world into something that suited him and only him, and growing fat off the results, is squashed.
Those two who were responsible, who gave the world the chance it needed to rid itself of the boot pressing down upon its throat, they were never known.
For Ruby, now saved from the Grimm but forever scarred by it, looks down upon the sleeping form of her fallen beloved, sees the full extent of Penny’s injuries, gathers her up in her arms, and steals her away to where she can be repaired.
In peace.

Do you have thoughts on modern au Suki?
Oh Boy Do I!
okay so in atla toph and azula are my favs, but i’m working my way through the rise of kyoshi books and like. i stan one (1) avatar. sucks to be aang roku and korra bc like. they just Cannot Compete.
so suki would be on kyoshi’s football (or soccer, for americans, do you feel special yet?) team, absolutely destroying it and her coach is also her mentor.
she’s captain of the team, duh, and she absolutely destroys sokka’s team when they play, then hahn’s, who makes her appreciate how dumb but well meaning sokka was.
she and sokka have to meet up once a week just to talk shit about hahn for an hour. kyoshi is amused.
at least until she hears that yue’s parents are making decisions about her dating life, at which point the kyoshi warriors accept her as an honorary member and kyoshi herself goes to knock some sense into them.
(kyoshi is under the mistaken impression that it is suki, not sokka, who wants to woo yue. arnook is suitably baffled when a random woman starts lecturing him on gay rights and his daughter as if the two are related.)
(they’re really not, says yue, who is a very cool and nice ally, but not quite there full time.)
anyway suki and yue are literally best friends and yue makes snacks for the kyoshi warriors and brings them to every practice. attendance has never been higher.
suki and katara get along well enough, but they have Issues because katara is big into social justice and is still getting to the point of understanding that having different priorities doesn’t make you evil. (she’ll burn out in a year or two and have to reassess, don’t worry.) suki wants katara to understand that just her being a teenage girl going into professional football is revolutionary enough, And she’s constantly encouraging other young girls to get into sports.
as an aside, i love suki to bits but she has terrible taste in memes and she unironically uses frat bro emojis. i refuse to equivocate or elaborate on this.
suki and toph in a modern au would really depend on the specifics. i think they have the potential to be absolute best of friends, but they wouldn’t necessarily get super close. in tkfatm (read here), they are gonna be very close. overall, suki thinks toph is nice but quite over the top and a bit aggressive. toph thinks suki is cool but a bit passive. they’d both help each other hide a body though.
suki and azula on the other hand. hoo boy.
so azula doesn’t play football, she does, like, roller derby, probably. of course, she plays a ‘casual’ match with the kyoshi warriors and they win by a slim margin. suki’s just played the best game of her life and azula, mai, and ty lee insist that they have to teach the kyoshi warriors roller derby too.
suki and azula are frenemy-rivals who would sell each other to satan for some tissues and a corn chip but talk shit about either one in the hearing range of the other and you Will die. they’re always on the verge of killing each other over various team rivalries but can absolutely agree that the professional leagues are continually fucking it up and if they’re not at each other’s throats they’re mutually bitching about a manager.
suki wishes azula would go into sport professionally, but she wants to be a lawyer and ozai’s pushing her to do business and management so she can take over from him one day. that’s never gonna happen.
(suki can must should and will murder ozai at her earliest convenience.)
suki and aang is pretty similar to suki and toph tbh. she’s not super close with him but she has nothing against him. i probably have more thoughts but i’ll only remember them later so i’m gonna end this here. (for now.)

Fictober 2020-Day 14
Unexpected Reunion
Prompt: "not interested, thank you"
Fandom: ATLA Pairing: eventual Zuko x reader Warnings: none A/N: Sorry this is a little rough but I had this idea and had to write it out. I may be making a continuation of it depending on how it goes. Anyways! I hope you enjoy!
I was going about my usual shopping when I saw a boy and an older man sitting on the side of a building. The older man had his hat outstretched, begging for money. Now that wasn't an unusual sight in the streets of this city, but what was unusual was the boy beside him. He had a scar over his left eye. Fire wounds were also not that uncommon, but there was something about this specific wound. I only knew one boy who had a scar like that and there was no way that he was in Earth Nation territory. Unless something happened with his banishment...
Curious, I moved closer until I was standing right in front of them. The old man, Iroh, looked up at me and smiled.
"Your face is more radiant then the shining sun," he said sagely, then jingled the hat at me. I gave him a moment to get a good look at me, but when it was apparent he was not going to recognize me I spoke. I was surprised, though. I had served this man tea countless times in my time as a servant at the Fire Lord’s palace.
"Why thank you, that means very much coming from a man of your stature," I said slyly, looking over at Zuko. He looked up sharply at my words, eyeing me cautiously.
"Ah, but we are just weary travelers, peasants compared to you," Iroh responded. Had I not spent so much time with the royal family I would have missed the suspicion in his voice.
"Then, by all means, stay at my place for the night," I said and waved my arm in the general direction of my place.
"Not interested, thank you," Zuko spat and then looked down at his feet, seeming to think the conversation was over.
If only.
"Maybe I was unclear," I smiled and turned to face Iroh. "I would be honored to have the Royal Family stay at my place for the night, maybe chat over some Jasmin tea. Doesn't that sound nice, Zuzu?"
At that Zuko jumped to his feet, eyes ablaze. "Don't call me that," he hissed.
I met his gaze head on, an easy smile on my face. "Maybe you'd like to tell me under what name you're traveling, then? Maybe I have mistaken you for someone else, someone wanted?"
"My nephew and I would love to come stay the night at your place," Iroh stood and placed a hand on Zuko's shoulder. He eyed something behind me, and Zuko looked to, his face souring when he saw it. I didn't have to look to know they were looking at a guard.
"Perfect!" I clasped my hands together. "I would love to hear all about the circumstances of your travels as soon as we get to my place. Come."
And with that, the two begrudgingly followed my to my place.
Once we were out of earshot of the guards, Zuko spoke up.
“How do you know us?” His tone was accusatory and harsh.
“I worked in the palace as a servant. I served the royal family tea until I was fired,” I paused and took off the gloves I always wore, exposing the horrible burn marks on my hands, “quite literally by your sister.”
With the exposure of my scars, Zuko and Iroh’s eyes lit up in recognition.
“You were the tea girl that spilled on Azula,” Zuko whispered.
“Such a shame,” Iroh added on. “You made magnificent tea, you were one of my favorites. I didn’t recognize you with your new look.”
Iroh was right, I had changed much from my time as a servant. I completely changed the way I wore my hair from the usual tight top knot servants wore and, of course, I was in traditional Earth Kingdom clothes. I looked nothing like when I served them tea, I was happy now. Very happy.
“Why didn’t you turn us in then?” Zuko asked. He sounded frustrated and confused. I didn’t blame him, his family had scarred me for life and forced me to start anew in a completely new place. When I was banished from the Fire Nation, I lost everything. All of my friends, my family, everything I knew. Yet, this starting anew gave me a new opportunity to make a name for myself and make a new family.
“Your uncle was nothing but kind to me, and you should know why I didn’t turn you in.” Right after I was packing my things to leave forever, Zuko visited me in the servants quarters. He have me a pouch of money that served me very well before leaving, ordering me to never tell anyone that happened. That was one year before his banishment, before he was scarred. After that I kept up with the news of the Fire Nation, and when I learned that he too was banished, I actually felt sad.
Zuko flushed and turned away. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
In the silence, Iroh spoke up. “May you remind this old man of your name,” he asked politely.
“It was never given,” I laughed softly. “Servants didn’t introduce themselves in the palace. They were just that, servants.” Iroh gave me a sad look, but I didn’t feel sad in the slightest. That life was far behind me now. “It’s Y/n, though. We’re almost to my home, too.”
When we rounded the corner, and my place came into sight, I saw the kids playing earth ball in the street. When they saw me, they immediately ended the game to rush up to greet me.
“This is Lily, Han, and Lee,” I introduced the kids from oldest to youngest. “Kids this is...” I trailed off, motioning to the two to give their names as well.
“I am Mushi, and this is my nephew, also named Lee,” Iroh introduced himself and Zuko. I nodded in understanding. I figured they were traveling under false names, I just hadn’t gotten them yet.
“Look at this!” Han shouted. He stomped his foot and a small rock shot up and he caught it.
“Good job buddy,” I smiled and ruffled his hair. Iroh and Zuko gave me a confused look, but I waved it off. “I’ll explain later,” I said quietly to only the two of them.
After that, we all went into the small house and began to unload my groceries. After they were done, the kids went back outside to play earth ball again.
“Lee is my biological brother, but Lily and Han are both refugees I adopted,” I explained to Iroh and Zuko. “Lily was displaced during an attack on the a Swamp nearby and Han was the sole survivor of a Fire Nation attack on a nearby village. They had no one else so I took them in.”
Iroh looked remorseful, but Zuko had a strange look on his face. Almost as if he was conflicted.
“I try to teach them bending, but I was only ever taught how to conjure fire to warm tea pots, so its not going to well.”
“They never taught you how to bend?” Zuko cried indignantly.
“Of course not,” I laughed. I gestured for them to sit in the living room while I got the things to make tea. “Servants that can fight can act out. They used to teach us firebending, but after the war started, Fire Lord Sozin made a new rule that no one except royalty and soldiers were to be taught.”
Once I got the pot down, Iroh stood up and gently took it from me.
“You have made tea for us enough times, Y/n. Let me.”
I smiled softly and let him. “The tea is in the top left cabinet.”
I sat down next to Zuko and watched his uncle make tea. Zuko looked like he was deep in thought, so I did not bother him. I just sat and thought to myself. I never imagined that I would ever be in the presence of the Royal Family again, let alone like this.
But it was nice. I thought maybe they could stay a little longer if they helped out around the house and lent a hand at my small tea shop...

VLD S8E8: Clear Day
Season 8 Episode 8: Clear Day
Transcribed by @dragonofyang
Summary: The crew on the IGF-Atlas spends some time on planet Drazan during Clear Day to unwind, meanwhile Allura stays onboard and discovers that nothing ever truly disappears, and that there is power still that can turn the tide of the war.
[Google Doc]
Allura: Tavo, I want to thank you for speaking with me.
Tavo: Forgive me, Princess Allura, but we don’t have much time.
Allura: I’m sorry?
Tavo: Please. Once Honerva discovers I’m speaking with you, it will be over.
Allura: Slow down. What are you trying to--?
Tavo: Listen to me. Now that she has Lotor, she will use him to destroy everything--
Allura: Tavo! Wait! I feel something.
Sam: Get them out of there! Reverse the magnetic polarity once the room is cleared. The impulse prism might just stabilize the foreign object.
[Scene change to Sam and Allura observing the dark entity in its container.]
Sam: This unit uses the ship’s crystal to energize the optronic vacuum casing. It was designed to contain diseases, but it should suffice until we find a more permanent solution.
Allura: Thank you, Sam. That thing, it was as if it was communicating with me. Whatever this is, it might be how Honerva connects to the Alteans.
Sam: Perhaps you should get some rest. It’s best if everyone stays away from this until we learn more about… Allura?
Allura: You’re right. Best to stay away.
[Scene change to the IGF-Atlas bridge.]
Garrison Officer: Captain, I’m picking up an abnormal signal from planet Drazan in the zeta-three sector.
Shiro: Open a hailing frequency. We need to find out what’s going on.
Veronica: Copy.
Shiro: This is Takashi Shirogane of the Voltron--
Burr: Well, if it isn’t the Voltron Coalition. And here I was thinking you were afraid to show your face after ruining the last Clear Day.
Coran: Yes, sorry about that. That was--that was on me.
Shiro: We noticed a lot of activity on your planet’s surface. Are you in danger?
Burr: Opposite! We’re celebrating Clear Day!
Coran: Hang on, isn’t Clear Day four movements from now?
Burr: Time dilation, you snarflaf! It’s right now. So unless you’d like to waste more of my time, I need to get back.
Shiro: Are you sure hosting a celebration is safe? This sector has seen a lot of hostile activity lately.
Burr: Oh, here we go. I knew this was coming. In fact, I just told my wife. I said to her, “Just you wait. You don’t know them the way I do. They promise to show up. You tell everyone that Voltron is coming to Clear Day. Everyone gets excited. Then Voltron never arrives, and you’re left with your top two paws stuck in the rocks!”
Shiro: We don’t wanna ruin your holiday, but we’re concerned--
Burr: We’re having Clear Day, and that is that! If you’re so worried about our safety, then how about you show up and provide security? Free of charge!
Shiro: Veronica, make an announcement to the Atlas. We’re going to Clear Day.
[Scene change to Allura’s quarters, where Lance and Allura are cuddling in bed.]
Lance: Are you sure you don’t wanna head down to the carnival? I’m pretty sure the Swathian Meerakeet won’t try to eat us.
Allura: I’m sure. I haven’t been feeling well, especially after what happened to Tavo. I need to rest.
Lance: Right. Well, I could stay here with you, keep you company if you want.
Allura: Please, go have fun. Maybe you can win me a prize. Something sparkly?
Lance: Yeah, okay. Winning prizes is kinda my specialty. I am a sharpshooter, after all.
[Scene change to several ships flying to the surface of Drazan.]
Shiro: I want you all to enjoy yourselves today. The celebration ends in five vargas. It’s important to remember that while the Atlas patrols the skies, we are the eyes and ears on the ground looking for any suspicious activity. These people are relying on us.
Coran: I pulled some strings and got each of you ten complimentary Clear Day tokens. Use them for games, foods, rides--
Pidge: Where’s Allura?
Lance: She’s going to stay back and rest. I just need to find something to bring back for her.
Pidge: That’s nice of you, Lance. I’ll help, too.
Hunk: Me three.
Keith: Let’s remember why we came here in the first place: to provide security for the event.
Pidge: Right. Well, I better go find the arcade and make sure it’s safe, yeah!
Lance: Uh, me, too!
Hunk: Me three!
Coran: Uh, wait for me!
Shiro: Keith, relax. Go have fun.
Keith: If we’re not here for protection, then what are we even doing here?
Shiro: Morale on the Atlas is low after what happened on Oriande. Who knows? A few hours at the carnival might just give us the boost we need to get back on track.
[Scene change to Allura laying in bed.]
Allura: Lance? What are you doing here?I thought you were going to the carnival.
Dark Entity (as Lance): That’s a beautiful flower. Where did you get it?
Allura: Colleen gave it to me. It’s a real juniberry flower. I assumed they had gone extinct.
Dark Entity (as Lotor): You should know better than anyone, nothing ever truly goes extinct. It’s good to see you again, Princess.
Allura: How? How did you get in here?
Dark Entity (as Lotor): You know, the ancients believed that all of life began with a single juniberry flower. I thought you’d be happy to see me.
Allura: What are you doing here? I demand to know!
Dark Entity (as Lotor): You and I desire the same thing. We both seek to destroy Haggar.
Allura: Haggar? Haggar is no longer. She’s Honerva now.
Dark Entity (as Lotor): True, though I could rename this a highlands poppy, you and I would both know what it truly is. The witch may change her name, but she will always be a witch.
Allura: Be that as it may, she’s too powerful. There’s nothing I can do to counter her abilities.
Dark Entity (as Lotor): You are mistaken. Everything you need is here.
Allura: How?
Dark Entity (as Lotor): This entity holds the power you seek. It is an ancient form of energy that predates time itself. It hails from the Quintessence Field. Entities like this gave Haggar the ability to conquer worlds and control the universe for ten thousand years. She recognizes the strength it provides her, and she uses it. If you can become one with the entity, then the powers you gain can defeat the witch.
[Scene change to a vision of Altea.]
Dark Entity (as Melenor): Allura.
Allura: Mother!
Dark Entity (as Melenor): I am so happy you’re here. You have arrived just in time.
Allura: Just in time? For what?
Dark Entity (as Melenor): To save us. Only you can protect us.
Dark Entity (as Melenor): I am so proud of you.
[Cut to Allura waking up in bed.]
Allura: It--it’s okay. It was only a dream.
[Cut to Pidge in the arcade.]
Arcade Game: I’m Coran, Coran, the non-truth telling man. Pick up that mallet and bomp me on the cranker before I can tell you a lie. Bomp me enough times and you’ll win a great prize!
Pidge: Yeah-ha-ha!
Arcade Game: Ah! No! Come on! See here! Stop it!
[Cut to a big-top tent as Shiro enters.]
Burr: Well, look who decided to actually show up.
Shiro: Good to see you, too, Burr.
Burr: Couldn’t help but notice the Blue Lion ain’t here. That’s fine. Can’t expect Voltron to completely follow through on their promises.
Shiro: What’s going on over here?
Burr: That’s the arm wrestling contest. It ain’t for people like you.
Shiro: Why is that? Because of my arm?
Burr: No. Arm wrestling is for the young and strong. You’re old, like me. Those kids would break you in half, mechanical arm or not.
Shiro: Is it too late to sign up?
Burr: Mm, I’m sure we could work something out.
[Scene change to a screaming Drazan on a stage.]
Host: Nice job, Glurry. Very respectable scores. Not bad at all. Now for our next contestant in the yalmor calling competition, please welcome Corin!
Coran: Right, then. Just do what Pop-Pop taught you to do.
[Scene change to Hunk sampling something on a stick.]
Keith: Look, guys, I just wanna know if you’ve seen anything suspicious.
Drazan Girl: Well, there is one weirdo who’s going around and bothering people about if they’ve seen anything suspicious.
Keith: Okay, that’s a start. Did you get a good look at… It’s me, isn’t it?
Hunk: Hey-o! Whatcha doing, Keith? Making new friends? Sweet. You know, it’s good to see you finally letting your guard down.
Keith: I wasn’t making friends.
Ride Operator: Next! Come on, you’re holding the line up! Let’s go!
Hunk: The line? Line for what?
Woman: Yeah, get out of here!
Man: What’s taking so long? Move!
Hunk: Oh. Uh, no, no. You don’t understand. I don’t like rides.
Ride Operator: Then, why were you in line?
Keith: We didn’t know it was a line!
Ride Operator: Likely story. Keep your hands and feet in the mouth at all times. You use ‘em, you lose ‘em. Have a blissfully burrowful time.
Mechanical Drazanites: [singing] We burrow every day! Underground is where we stay, waiting for the time to say, “Clear Day, Clear Day!”
Hunk: This is awesome!
Mechanical Drazanites: [singing] Clear Day, Clear Day, Clear Day! What do we say? Clear Day, Clear Day, Clear Day!
Hunk: Huh?
Ride Operator over PA: Sorry for the inconvenience. We’ll get this thing up and running in a tick. In the meantime, stay in your burrow buggy. And remember, have a blissfully burrowful time.
Mechanical Drazanites: [singing] What do we say? Clear Day, Clear Day, Clear Day! What do we say? Clear Day, Clear Day, Clear Day!
Keith: I gotta get out of here.
[Scene change to the arcade where a Drazanite child receives a purple lion toy.]
Drazan Child: Oh!
Lance: Voltron doesn’t have a Purple Lion.
Game Operator: Wanna play? All you gotta do is throw one of these rings onto one of them sticks. Win one for your special someone?
Lance: You got any Blue Lions? I used to be the Blue Lion’s Paladin and now my girlfriend is, so it’s--it’s kind of our thing.
Game Operator: Oh, is that right? Let me see. I happen to have a one-of-a-kind, collector’s edition blue mechanical flying feline.
Lance: Perfect! How much? They only gave us ten of these token thingies.
Game Operator: Oh, wonderful! Ten tokens is exactly how much it costs to play the game!
Lance: Did these rings shrink?
Game Operator: Oh, no, friend. They just look smaller in your strong, muscular hands.
Lance: Hm.
Game Operator: Oh! So close. Care to try again?
Lance: Oh, this game is rigged! And I don’t have any more tokens.
Game Operator: Well, perhaps we can make a deal.
[Scene change to Pidge at a counter with a mountain of tickets in front of her.]
Pidge: What’s the best prize you have?
Prize Counter Girl: Every prize is the best prize, and everyone goes home a winner.
Pidge: Okay, but say I was giving the prize to a princess.
Prize Counter Girl: For a princess? Behold.
Pidge: I’ll take it!
Prize Counter Girl: Sure, but you’re gonna need about twice as many tickets as this.
Pidge: But I don’t have any more tokens.
Prize Counter Girl: Well, in that case, you could get one of these shovels and use it to dig your way out of the hole you find yourself in.
Pidge: I’ll find a way to get more tickets.
[Scene change to a shooting game where the MFE pilots are playing then to the arm-wrestling contest.]
Shiro: May the best man win.
Alien: Who are you calling a man?
Man: Alright!
Man 2: Yeah!
[Cut to the Holts at a photo booth.]
Pidge: Dad, I ran out of tokens!
Sam: Well, that’s what happens when you waste it all on--
Pidge: Dad!
Sam: Okay. How much do you need?
Pidge: How much do you got?
Colleen: You’ll have to earn them. I want a family picture.
Pidge: I’ll take the picture, but I pick the costume.
Colleen: I get to add one accessory and you have to smile.
Pidge: Half-smile.
Colleen: You’ve got yourself a deal.
Photographer: Say “Clear Day”!
All: Clear Day!
Colleen: I want another picture. Katie isn’t smiling.
Pidge: Sorry! Gotta go do paladin stuff!
[Scene change to the dark entity’s holding chamber.]
Allura: It’s been here the entire time.
Dark Entity (as Lotor): Everything you need, the ability you’ve been seeking, within your grasp. Go ahead, Allura. Free it.
Allura: I can’t. I won’t.
Dark Entity (as Lance): It won’t do any harm. The entity will help you. It will save all of us.
Dark Entity (as Lotor): Take it.
Allura: No. No. This is not real!
Dark Entity (as Melenor): Only you can save us all. Release the entity.
Dark Entity (as Melenor and Honerva): Come home to Altea.
Dark Entity (as Honerva): Join us.
Lotor: Follow me!
[Scene change to Hunk and Keith in the ride.]
Mechanical Drazanites: [singing] We burrow every day! Underground is where we stay, waiting for the time to say, “Clear Day--
Ride Operator over PA: Looks like everything is in order. We apologize for the delay. Again, have a blissfully burrowful time.
Keith: Finally.
Mechanical Drazanites: [singing] Clear Day, Clear Day, Clear Day! What do we say? Clear Day, Clear Day--
Keith: That’s it! I’m getting out of here. You coming?
Hunk: Can we come back when the ride gets fixed? I wanna see how it ends. Aw, man. Alright, wait up! Oh… where are we?
Emcee: Ladies and burrowmen, this is it! Only two remain in the yalmor calling competition. Who will be our champion?
Keith: Is that Coran?
Coran: She’s done a twist on the Flogarian technique. She’s good, really good.
Emcee: Wow! A blagmore and two durgises. That score is gonna be hard to beat.
Center Judge: Just gorgeous.
Emcee: Three blagmores! The top prize for the best squoozle of the day goes to Corn-man Hieronymus Wimbleton Smythe!
[Cut to a close up of a Blue Lion plush.]
Lance: And that’s the last one.
Vendor: Here you go.
Coran. Nice plushie!
Lance: Nice trophy!
Pidge: Look what I got for Allura. I bet she’s really gonna dig it.
Keith: Where’s Shiro?
[Scene change to the arm wrestling competition stage.]
Burr: Ladies and burrowmen, are you ready to crown an arm wrestling champion? First up is our challenger, former Paladin of Voltron and the current captain of the IGF-Atlas. Hailing from some tiny planet no one has ever heard of. It’s Shiro! And our reigning champion, who needs no introduction, let’s hear it for the Warden!
Warden: You!
Burr: Friend of yours?
Shiro: Not exactly.
Warden: You and your little friends took away my livelihood.
Shiro: You held an innocent person prisoner to help the Galra Empire. I’d gladly do it again.
Warden: Look, I know I did some bad things. The truth is, I thought you guys ruined my life, but, really, you saved me. After I stopped working for the Galra, I was at a low point, but then I found arm wrestling, and it helped me realize what’s most important in my life. Win or lose, thank you. Now, let’s put on a show!
Coran: Rip his arm off! Rip his arm off!
Pidge: You got this!
Warden: You’re alright, Shiro.
[Scene change to Allura, laying unconscious in the room where the Dark Entity was being held.]
Sam: Allura! Allura, are you okay?
End.

Ikemen Revolution Avatar & Suitor Ranking ♥️
Ikemen Revolution is arguably my favorite app of all the Cybird series. I’ve had it for close to 2 years now and I’m STILL obsessed. This was such a unique and intriguing concept, I was doomed to fall in love (many times).
Tumblr media
This is my cute little avatar named Anastasia 🥰 I love her.
Friend code: P5EQQS69V
✨IkeRev Ranking✨
1. Lancelot Kingsley: IM ACTUALLY IN LOVE WITH LANCELOT ugh I guess I just have a thing for the routes where he actively tries NOT to fall in love but does anyway 😍 very masculine & presh at the same time
2. Oliver Knight: This guy literally STOLE MY HEART in his route I was not prepared. I have a legit weakness for tsunderes. He’s such a hottie and PRECIOUS when he starts to fall for MC. Still obsessed with his rescue mission. I’m ngl his curse is a tad weird at the end, but tbh the way he acts is sooo accurate of boys 🙄 I didn’t even cringe bc boys are just dumb & do dumb things sometimes. (Sry for the essay lol I’m just passionate) Overall I love him ❤️
3. Ray Blackwell: Loooove friends to lovers almost as much as enemies to lovers 😍 he’s so noble & kind. Love love love everything about his route.
4. Fenrir Godspeed: Another friends to lovers that I ADORE. Fenrir is always so real and his passion is 🔥 all I’m going to say is I LOVE the Lake of Tears scene.
5. Harr Silver: I’m OBSESSED with him every time he shows up in someone’s route. So stinkin cute and mysterious. Loved all the Harr content in Loki’s and Sirius’s routes. I need his route ASAP!!!
6. Dalim (Dum Tweedle): IM READY FOR DALIM I’m so interested to see more content & I already can’t get enough. I think I have a type lol.
7. Edgar Bright: Was NOT expecting Edgar’s route to be as good as it was but I loved watching him fall in love with MC 🥺
8. Sirius Oswald: Love an older guy 🤩 He’s for real sexy and SO CUTE. I love it when he blushes I honestly die every time.
9. Zero: ANOTHER CUTIE I love Zero so much!!! He has such an intriguing backstory & I also love MC’s uncondional love for him because he deserves the world. (Also am I the only one who thinks of Taylor Lautner?)
10. Luka Clemence: Another baby that deserves the world!!! He comes across as innocent but DANG he’s also fire. Not usually all about the innocent types but Luka’s great.
11. Kyle Ash: A fun read and a cutie!! Not my fave route, but we love an intellectual 🤩 Still kinda concerned about how proud he seems of being the “weakest member of the red army” though??
12. Jonah Clemence: I usually LOVE stories where the guy tries to woo the girl for a bet, but honestly Jonah’s personality is a little unrelatable. He’s so pretty 😍 but why is he always talking about how great he is in third person? Lol. Idk I’ll give his route another shot at some point!
13. Dean Tweedle: Seems pretty cool but I’m already team Dalim 🥰 I’ll probably still enjoy his route when it comes out though!
14. Loki Genetta: He’s such a cutie but all of the cat comparison traits fell super flat imo I’m sorry 😬 they just made him seem super immature. I’m sure that was probably the point, but that’s just my opinion!
15. Seth Hyde: Very cute!! But a little over the top sometimes? Idk his personality seems very exaggerated occasionally, but I’m very interested in his mysterious side. I can probably make a better analysis once we get his route!
16. Blanc Lapin: Very very gentlemanly ❤️ but I kind of love Blanc more in a platonic way. Not sure I’ll relate to his route very much, but I could be mistaken! We shall see :)
17. Mousse Atlas: In my very honest opinion I’m really not interested in Mousse at all. Another one that I see platonically, and I don’t think his route will change that. Always love new characters though!
Bonus: Amon Jabberwock! I have no idea if Amon will ever have a route (I don’t keep up with the jp version) but I would be interested in reading it! I don’t think I can rank him at this point though, so until/if he gets a route he will just be the added bonus. Crazy dude though 🤙🏻
