Apollo Program: Block I Command and Service Modules

The Apollo Command and Service Module (CSM) contract was award to North American Aviation on November 28, 1961. At the time, the plan was to land the entire CSM on the lunar surface via the direct ascent and the initial design did not include a means to dock with another spacecraft. Later on this was changed to the lunar orbit rendezvous and lunar landing would be preform via the Lunar Module. This required a major redesign of the CSM and in 1963, NASA decided the most efficient way to keep the program on track was to proceed with the development in two versions:

Block I: the preliminary version for early low Earth orbit test flights only.

Block II: the new lunar-capable version, which included a docking hatch, incorporating weight reduction and lessons learned from the Block I.

The CSM Block I was to be used for all uncrewed Saturn IB (AS-201 & AS-202) and Saturn V (AS-501 & AS-502) test flights, plus two manned missions. This was changed to only one in late 1966, being Apollo AS-204, aka Apollo 1. After the Apollo 1 fire all manned missions were to use the improved Block II versions.

Block I Command and Service Modules produced:

CSM-001: systems compatibility test vehicle, used on propulsion tests at White Sands Missile Range. Completed tests on September 7, 1968. CSM scrapped.

CSM-002: used for powered on tumble abort tests, flew on A-004 Little Joe II, January 20, 1966, at White Sands Missile Range. Modified to 002A.

CM-002A: used to in land drop tests. Modified to 002B

CM-002B: used on pogo tests at Downey, California. Modified to BP-23. On display

CSM-003: cancelled before construction began

CSM-004: structural tests, CM modified to 004B.

CM-004A: Used for Thermal and dynamic tests, redesignated BP-27 on the Saturn I Block II (SA-5D). On display.

CM-004B: Tested a new unified hatch design at Downey, California. CM offered to Smithson but declined, later scrapped by Rockwell at Downey, CA.

CSM-005: cancelled before construction began

CSM-006: CM used for systems capability tests and modified to Block II for ESC tests at AiResearch in Los Angeles, CA. Later used for demonstrating tumbling debris removal systems. CM offered to Smithsonian but declined, later scrapped. SM redesignated as SM-010, on display with BP-23A.

BP-23A and SM-010 on display at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Huntsville, Alabama.

CSM-007: various tests including acoustic vibration and drop tests, and used as a ground test vehicle. CM modified to 007A. SM used for fitcheck of docked model facility, current location is unknown.

CM-007A: used by Astronauts for water egress training, water-survival training and extended recovery training in the Gulf of Mexico. CM was refitted with Block II improvements. Underwent testing for Skylab at the McKinley Climatic Laboratory, Eglin AFB, Florida, 1971–1973. On display.

CM-007A is on display at the Seattle Museum of Flight, Seattle, WA.

CSM-008: complete systems spacecraft used in thermal vacuum tests. CM modified to 008A, SM offered to Smithsonian but declined (August 1973), later scrapped by Rockwell International at Downey, CA May 1977.

CM-008A: used in land tests at Downey, CA. CM scrapped by March 1971.

CSM-009: flew on AS-201 (later designated Apollo 2), CM modified to 009A.

CM-009A: modified with support structural tests for land impacts. CM offered to Smithsonian but declined, on display.

CSM-010: originally intended for a launch abort test, mission cancelled and CM was modified into 004A. SM cancelled.

CSM-012: intended for AS-204 (Apollo 1). CM is in storage at Langley Research Center. SM scrapped. Hatch on Display.

CSM-015: CM cancelled before construction began. SM-015 was used with BP-30 and LES-014 for Swing Arm tests and backup spacecraft for Apollo 6. On display.

— Andre never knew his mom, and his father Andre Davis Sr. is a truck driver that had no intentions of being an active father. He was raised by his grandparents, Dion and Loretta Davis who own a soul food restaurant in Atlanta. Their nurturing personalities saved his life.

Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?

— He has 2 siblings but he doesn't know them.

Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.

— Andre lives in Boston, Ma part time and Los Angeles, Ca part time by himself.

What is your occupation?

— He is the starting small forward for the Boston Celtics.

— Andre is African-American with no tattoos and stands at 6 foot 6 inches tall and weighing about 220 pounds. His hair is always clean cut and he keep his beard long but shaped. — Andre's childhood was rough for a long time with neither parents wanting him. He was bounced around family members, almost joined a gang in middle school but his grandparents stepped in and gave him a second chance. They were strict but it was what he needed.

What is your earliest memory?

— Getting a bike for his 6th birthday.

How much schooling have you had?

— Andre left college early to pursue his NBA career but he has since gone back an finished up and now holds a bachelor's degree in sociology with a concentration in family, gender and society.

Did you enjoy school?

— Yes he did.

Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

— He learned how to play basketball from playing older guys in the park and watching tv.

While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.

— He didn't have anyone to look up to but he had a lot of people he knew he didn't want to be like. Andre wanted his own path and to be his own man.

While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?

— He didn't talk a lot and stayed to himself but he felt safe with his grandparents and respected them.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

— He wanted to be an astronaut.

— He liked to play sports and video games.

— Andre wasn't popular until high school because that was the longest he had stayed at once school. Everybody he was around he didn't consider friends because he wasn't used to having people support him and he never spoke to any of them once he went to college. The only person he was friends with was his high school sweetheart and she was his rock.

— He had his first kiss in 5th grad with a girl who used to bully him.

Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?

— He's not a virgin, he lost his virginity at 16 to his girlfriend at the time.

— The day he signed a contract to play in the NBA.

With Season 8 officially in gear, it means I'm going to have to play a bit of catch-up with it in terms of coverage on here! All other prior Seasons have over 30 posts each on here - you can check for yourself on the pinned post! - but Season 8 still sits at just a single one, with Joke-Explainer™ 7000 Fusion Collab. Well, today marks the second ever Season 8 post, covering its first surprise event - BELIEBERDANSEN and the Justin Bieber takeover.

The idea of cringe culture in how it relates to SiIvaGunner's history is a really fascinating topic, and one I covered back on mlp racism anthem (comix zone arrange) in pretty good detail. To summarize, there was a time early in the channel's life where a good number of the references and jokes were made in rather poor taste - where the crux of the joke was to point and laugh at the weird and different parts of the internet, to have trolled the audience with something "cringe". The feel of internet discussion has changed a lot in the years since 2016, though, and it generally feels as if we're far more accepting, more nostalgic and intrigued by the stranger parts of the internet, rather than blatantly antagonistic. Be it with "dead" memes like in Corridors of Vine and Wario's Hampster Mine, or with phenomena that are still ongoing like with Hidden Headtoilets (skibidi toree 2), the SiIvaGunner channel and community tend to take a far more...playful stance to things nowadays. If something is to be loathed in SiIvaGunner nowadays, it has to truly earn it through its presence on the channel: the Yankin'/Astronaut in the Ocean wars of Season 5, as talked about in Aquarium in the Ocean and Knowledge of the Depths are the clearest example of that.

With all of that in mind, I don't really know why I was still surprised over how much fun the Justin Bieber event wound up being! The event, on February 19, 2024, celebrated the 14th anniversary of Justin Bieber's infamous release "Baby", a song that lit early internet ablaze with exaggerated vitriol way back when. And yeah, a bit of that resentment could still be seen in the comments section - its a fair bit more justified given how much Bieber himself has changed since the song - but overall, the rips made during the event all put a really fun spin on this otherwise overplayed song! I recommend you all give the event a listen if you haven't been keeping tabs this month, but BELIEBERDANSEN is really just one pick amidst a plethora of other excellent ones. That, and as said in Caramariodansen - any song mashed up with Caramelldansen is bound to become funny.

Honestly though, it wasn't a blind pick, and I may just be a little bit biased toward the aforementioned song in particular. Caramelldansen, if you weren't aware, is a Nightcore-ified version/remix of a Swedish pop song - and I, Mel, the writer of this blog, am Swedish. That draws me to any Caramelldansen rip on its own, and the concept of BELIEBERDANSEN alone is just very funny, a mashup of two absolute juggernauts of early "obnoxious" internet culture. Yet ripper DiamondBrickZ went the extra mile beyond just making this a mashup - at the point where the choruses of both songs begin, Bieber's Baby vocals are sentence-mixed to the original Swedish vocals of Caramelldansen. I of course have no idea what the creative process behind this was, especially due to the not knowing much about DiamondBrickZ as a person, but as a Swedish listener myself I have to say: This is SHOCKINGLY well done and still sounds wholly legible as Swedish speech. Like, the rest of the mashup is great: I love the use of the repeated "Baby's" almost acting as a choir during the instrumental break after the chorus, and the use of Ludacris' feature during the midway point of the song is perfectly placed, but like...the sentence mixing genuinely caught me completely off guard in the best way possible - memories of Season 1's double-rugpull in Be Cool, Be Wild, and Be My Girl came flowing back. It's just the cherry on top of an already fantastically creative mashup idea that was excellently done, and turned BELIEBERDANSEN into the absolute highlight of the event for me.

Designing the ‘perfect’ meal to feed long-term space travelers

Imagine blasting off on a multiyear voyage to Mars, fueled by a diet of bland, prepackaged meals. As space agencies plan for longer missions, they’re grappling with the challenge of how to best feed people. Now, researchers reporting in ACS Food Science & Technology have designed the optimal “space meal”: a tasty vegetarian salad. Theychose fresh ingredients that meet male astronauts’ specialized nutritional needs and can be grown in space.

Astronauts in space burn more calories than humans on Earth and require extra micronutrients, such as calcium, to stay healthy during extended exposure to microgravity. Additionally, future long-term missions will require growing food in a sustainable, circular way within the spacecraft or space colonies. While researchers have explored methods of growing food in space and what nutrients astronauts require to stay healthy, specific fresh meals have not been developed. So, Volker Hessel and coworkers wanted to optimize a space meal that meets those unique requirements of spaceflight and tastes good.

First, the researchers assessed combinations of fresh ingredients, using a method called linear programming, which computationally balances different variables to meet a specific goal. In this case, their model identified how well the combinations of different foods could meet a male astronaut’s daily nutritional needs while minimizing the water required to grow the foods. The team was also concerned about the sustainability of the foods in space, selecting ingredients that needed little fertilizer, time and area to grow and whether inedible portions could be recycled. Of the 10 scenarios the researchers examined, they found that a vegetarian meal made up of soybeans, poppy seeds, barley, kale, peanuts, sweet potato and/or sunflower seeds provided the most efficient balance of maximal nutrients and minimal farming inputs. While this combination couldn’t quite provide all the micronutrients an astronaut needs, those missing could be added in a supplement, the researchers suggest.

To make sure that the identified combination was tasty, the team whipped up the ideal space meal as a salad for four people to taste test here on Earth. One tester gave rave reviews and “wouldn’t mind eating this all week as an astronaut.” Other people were more muted in their praise, even though they went back for second helpings. In the future, the researchers plan to see what their computer model dishes up as options for female astronauts and expand the variety of crops in their database.

The authors acknowledge funding from a University of Adelaide scholarship stipend.

Greek Gods Challange

NOTE: List is the same with CheetahAlyssa's greek gods challange except for the birth order. I changed the order a bit to make it more similar to the birth order of greek gods and I completed the generation number to 12.

If you don't have a pack needed for one of the generations, just do it to the best of your ability!

You don't have to stick too closely to the rules, if you want to change some to make the experience better then go ahead.

I KNOW that there are a lot of siblings and children/parents on here, but if I were to stick that closely to actual Greek mythology it would be a mess. I want it to just focus on one god at a time. Plus, do you see how many children each god has? Hell no.

Rules (Not Obligatory)

Once you have created your sim, move them into an empty lot. To make the challenge more difficult, start on a 50x50 lot or larger. Depending on how difficult you want to make it, you must cheat your money down to §1800 or §0. You may start in any season and in any world you like. Build them a house as you get the funds to do so. No money cheats are allowed. You may use custom content to achieve a greek feel. You may use mods as long as it doesn’t give you an unfair playing advantage. For fun, you can try and make their home based on what their colors & symbols are. Make sure that your gameplay is set to normal.

I will put a disclaimer here that this is a work of fiction. Please do not take this challenge as fact! This challenge is meant to be fun and interesting. Feel free to change this challenge to suit your needs or gameplay!

Career: Retail Store (Selling Works from Woodworking Table)

Rules

Complete Aspiration and get to level 10 Handiness skill.

Successfully run your own Retail Store by selling your work from the woodworking table.

Have an unhappy marriage with a non-commital sim.

Have at least one child.

Sculpt a masterpiece of every emotional sculptures.

This list of 12 generations is inspired from 12 greek gods of mount Olympus. As you can see some gods aren't included e.g. Hades or Hestia, but you can add them after the generations complete or you can add them as spouses or you can add extra generations as you go with the game. Hestia for example is the godess of hearth, home, architecture, domesticity, family & state and she's the firstborn so you can start your save with Hestia or add her as a sibling or spouse for any generation, it's up to you to decide.

Rules (Not Obligatory)

Start by creating your founder in Create-A-Sim (CAS). There you must start out creating the very embodiment of Artemis. Your founder can be a young adult or adult. You can name him/her whatever you want. Since you are playing as an embodiment of each god, you do not have to name them the God’s name. You can make them look like whatever you want, though it is more fun to try and make them resemble the god that they are portraying. There are a ton of pictures of the Greek Gods on the internet if you want to draw from that. But, it is believed that each god had a certain look to them. For instance, Zeus is usually portrayed as being an older strong male with white hair and a beard. For added fun you can give each generation a specific color and symbols.
