for all my writer friends:
whatever your word count, it's okay.
a small word count means you got your words across quickly and sweetly, while a large word count means more content for your readers.
sometimes chapters are big, sometimes they're small. whatever it is, it doesn't dictate your value.
you're doing so well, keep it up :D

When I first started writing fanfiction I was so concerned that if my chapters were too wordy and stories too long, no one would want to read them. I'd put them into a word counter and pray they were less than 10k since I saw a reddit post saying people preferred chapters around 5k because they were more 'digestable'.
Now I realize that just like me, people love eating up long-winded emotional deep dives and detailed character interactions. Stories over 100k words are a BLESSING, not a deterrent. I don't look at word counts or page numbers now, I just throw the chapters out into the void and sit back and watch the kids have fun. Do I have to add another chapter to flesh out this idea? Let's do it. Is my story going to be over 150k words by the time I'm done with it even if I swore it wouldn't be? Probably, and there is nothing wrong with that.
tldr; These stories are YOUR work and there is no such thing as page restrictions and character limits in fanfiction. Let the words flow and share them with the world! we are anxiously awaiting them.

The life of a fanfic writer:
Me: Okay so I've planned out another scene for my fic, and I am literally so excited to write it and share it!!
Someone else: Cool, when can we expect to see it?
Me: In about 10 years when I finally get to that part in the story!

What it’s like to be a fanfic author with adhd:
“Okay! Today we write the next chapter. Yes! I feel motivated and I have so many ideas and, Oh!”
(specific, long, intense, emotionally charged dialouge plays in head)
“Yes! That’s good. Yes, let me write that down so I don’t forget!”
(opens phone and completely forget what I was doing and end up on TikTok for twenty minutes)
“OH! Phone, you were supposed open notes app!”
(Opens notes app)
“Why did I want to open notes app????”
(Sees note of fanfic ideas and dialogue parts)
“OH! Yes! Yes. I have forgotten the dialogue.”
(Phone dings. It’s a notification of a reader asking when the next chapter will be out. Opens notification to respond and ends up reading the last chapter of my own fic that I published two days ago, now noticing all my spelling and grammar errors I missed)
“This would be easier to correct the errors if I had my laptop!”
(Gets up to grab laptop - comes back to chair 20 minutes later with a coffee cup in hand)
“Oh, oh yes! Laptop!”
(Gets up to get laptop, sets coffee down to grab laptop, sits down with laptop)
“My coffee!”
(Gets back up to retrieve coffee. While walking, very specific, long, instense emotionally charged dialogue idea pops in head - cue endless loop but now with coffee)

Using Schrödinger’s Mary Sue In Creative Writing
Every once in a while, out of nowhere, the idea of something like a cool fight scene, a witty exchange between the villain and hero or a very dramatic finale just ✨pop✨ into a writer’s head; usually accompanied with a sudden burst of inspiration. When those scenes involve established characters and stories, more often than not the writer regains consciousness several hours later having fully thought through the most epic thing they’ve ever written, contemplating weather or not they should rewrite the entire story to be able to properly include that scene.
But sometimes those scenes are just about A hero, A villain, A couple, not about someone specific. When that happens we often get stumped in the creative process because we have to sit down and actively create characters or fledge out vague character ideas we’ve had on the back burner to have material to continue the train of thought. And that usually kills that burst of inspiration.
That’s where what I call “Schrödinger’s Mary/Gary Sue” comes into play.
A SM/GS is a character concept for a specific archetype of character who possesses only the characteristics that you tend to give these archetypes, as well as all of the abilities for them that you came up with but weren’t able to include but wanted to.
To give an example, this is how my own SM/GS for the MC/Part Time Hero looks like:
- personality and appearance -
Vaguely Male
Light Hair
Kind (optional, might have been beaten out of them)
Intelligent
- abilities/roles -
Teleportation
Ghost sight
Half human / half spirit
Fox spirit
Dragon shifter
Follower of / reaper for the god of death
Genius magician and high priest
A planet throwing heavenly knight who helps the gods of creation fight evil gods from other dimensions
A literal god
Etc. etc. bc yes there is much more
That list on its own looks pretty Mary Suey. What makes that character a Schrödinger’s Mary Sue however is how to use them: Once that character has been placed into a scene their abilities are limited to just one, or if compatible and not over the top a few of those abilities.
This setup gives us the opportunity to experiment with not only that scene that originally came to mind but also old ideas that we didn’t want to abandon but couldn’t make work at that time. Basically what we’re doing is instead of playing with air, we play with an unpainted, unclothed, wig-less doll. It’s not concrete enough to just be copies of pre-existing characters but gives us enough substance to develop the scene; and if all goes well that doll won’t stay in that state for too long and become its own fully fledged out character.
(I used to really struggle with losing that burst of inspiration but since I’ve started using the SM/GS approach my brain has probably become the fastest and most effective recycling machine on the planet.)
Also, I you end up trying this for yourself, keep in mind to keep the SM/GS’s personality and characteristics as vague and basic as possible before going into the scene, else you risk writing the same character over and over again. Once you start working you can add proper personality traits and make a real character from that base concept. And of course, don’t be afraid to change those basic characteristics if you feel like it or the story develops into a direction that calls for it.
Happy writing :D

I don't know who needs to hear this but:
It's totally cool to have a million ideas bouncing around in your head all at once. Seriously, you're not some kind of "problem child" for being a creative powerhouse. You don't need to "calm down", "tone it down" or "take it easy" just because you've got a ton of projects on the go.
So what if your mind feels like a chaotic tornado of inspiration ? Embrace it ! You're not "too much" or "overwhelming", you're exactly the right amount of awesome.
And to anyone who tries to rain on your parade with their negativity ? Tell 'em to take a hike ! You've got better things to do than listen to their boring old complaints.
So keep doing your thing, keep chasing those dreams, and never let anyone dull your sparkle. Your brain is beautiful, full of imagination and there is no way you should apologize for having all of those amazing ideas. You're a rockstar, and don't you forget it.✨
Sincerely, A Keeper of 372 Works in Progress 📚🐉

A snippet for a lil side project of mine I've been working on while dealing with reviews. I got this idea while watching something and it just kinda stuck but I'm not sure if anyone would really be interested.
Pairing: Gojo Satoru/Itadori Yuuji
Cw: nonconsensual turning on with a camera I guess?!?! (・–・;)
Satoru takes the shot.
There's a flicker of emotion on Yuuji's face, a quiet hitch of breath in time to the deepening blush on his features. Satoru also doesn't miss the full body shudder as well as the spike in Yuuji's cursed energy.
Strange.
He wants to ask but movement on his phone screen catches his attention. His camera is still open, and words that he's sure shouldn't be there appear across the screen.
'Watch passion overcome the target of your desire, take another picture~'
He can almost hear the saccharine sweet automated voice in his head, prompting, tempting.
His finger hovers over the capture button. There's clearly something wrong with his phone, he should figure it out first and if it's related to their last mission.
But the gasp that had parted Yuuji's lips not long before still echoes in his mind. He has to give it another test, just to be sure.
It's the right thing to do, isn't it?
So that's that, if any goyuu shippers in particular would like to see this feel free to let me know tho I have to say it won't be out anytime soon cuz busy, busy. But what will be out soon (Preferably this week) is an author requested review so keep an eye out (。・ω・。)ノ♡
Ps if you know where I got this idea from...no you don't (●__●)

My brain when I'm driving: yes fantastic fic idea, here is a beautiful plot, imagine all these great scenes in perfect detail, here's a load of background characters with well fleshed out backstories, go forth and write this extremely detailed and well thought out story
My brain when in front of my laptop: what is a sentence? Do adjectives exist? I have never written a word in my life. Am but a simple bean with no words
