I have burning Buck and Eddie questions,
I mean, I've come to terms with the bad storytelling, the repeated patterns and unfinished, at least in a satisfying way, thoughts displayed on the screen for the entire characters. (Hen's medical adventure, the friction that was between Buck and Chimney, Athena's dad, Bobby and Athena's honey moon (you can't tell me that that frame out of nowhere in the end of the episode said anything, it looked like it slipped in accidentally in editing.) and so many other things that will take me at least two posts to cover.)
But back to my Buck and Eddie questions,
Why?
Why have that couch flirting convo in the beginning of the season?
Why this entire domestic vibe? The fully baked lasagna after three tries? - It was perfect and it was ready and it smelled great.
In parallel to Marina from Station 19, when Maya (this very season) while in therapy, brought Carina a lasagna that gave her food poisoning. Because she was in a hurry when she baked it, that she brought it to Carina before it was ready.
Which, in correct writing world, means Carina and Maya are at a stage they're are not ready to get back together, they need a little more baking (Maya, more time in therapy, and Carina to trust her again) before they are fully baked - ready to get back together.
Buck's lasagna was perfectly cooked! And he served it to Eddie and Christopher.
Is that to say that the lightning strike spoiled Buck? (who apparently is the lasagna in this analogy somehow) and suddenly he's not ready anymore? Maybe he needs one more try before getting with Eddie? but that's beyond three tries - Abby, Ali, Taylor. Death girl makes four, so wth?
Is Marisol representing third try? Shannon, Ana, Marisol. I that what we're waiting for?
Because Eddie seemed ready, after the hospital, after roaming the halls like a ghost until Buck returned to him. - And in full, because they drew so close together after that, to the point that Eddie and Christopher spent their extra time with Buck, in his loft, on the wooden chairs at that wooden table, and none of it seems comfortable, and there's no couch, but Buck was home.
They were comfortable and happy with him.
And he is comfortable with them, happy to have them there.
He couldn't find the peace and quiet and space to heal in his own apartment, it kept getting intruded (I'll circle back to that later) so he found his refuge at Eddie's, he was asleep the second he rested on Eddie's couch, Eddie is home, Eddie is safe.
And the writers made it a glaring point that IT IS Eddie, because Christopher isn't part of the scene, so it's not the second parent here, it's Eddie's partner, his not yet but should be spouse.
In 6x13, we have the glaring parallel between Denny's bio father with Hen and Karen finding out, to Buck being entrusted with Christopher without needing Eddie there to supervise. (going all the way to S3 btw.)
What was that??
Now if it was the only interaction for that episode, I'd chalk that up to fathers and father figures and leave it at that.
But it wasn't - It was preceded by a freakishly domestic scene with all three of them and that POKER DATE - Because it was a date and you can't tell me otherwise.
Both unbelievably dressed up, Eddie looking at Buck like he's his entire world, like he's the only one in that room!
And he timed the exact time down to the second (like Chimney timed the time it would take help to arrive if Maddie gave birth at home and something went wrong) that Buck was dead. - The exact time Buck left Eddie, broken hearted, not breathing, looking like someone ripped his heart out and wheeled it away with Buck.
And Buck looked just as smitten in that poker game, he was having a good time, and seemed completely in awe of this new piece of information about Eddie.
He also glances back a bit in Eddie's direction when he says the exact time Buck was dead, if they were alone, would Buck have asked him or tell him like Maddie told Chimney? "You timed it." - Because that was the essence of that look.
What was the point of that episode??? - It cemented the Buckley-Diaz family so hard, that it was so hard to ignore.
But Eddie says in that episode, when the three were sitting together and he went full-Buck on the research of the side effects of lightning strikes victims. - He says that there was a guy who was struck by lightning and "the lights would turn on and off every time he walked into a room."
Which is the definition of how Eddie sees Buck, especially now after he died and came back and let them drew him closer to the Diaz boys.
But Eddie also said "But it didn't last." - "Only lasted a few weeks."
A few weeks, until Buck met Natalia - who "sees" him.
In between, we have Pepa trying to set Eddie up, but (aside from the fact that Buck's reaction was to ghost her) he wanted to let Venessa down easy, but she beat him to it.
When he says "You don't want to break abuela's heart."
She answers, "Or mine. You understand."
And he did, he does understand. And he was content to move on from there, thinking he wasn't alone, until the funeral scene and then the cemetery where Buck snuffs completely that light he brought with him and tells Eddie that Natalia "sees" him, better than anyone, better than himself.
Was that the writers way to tell us that it was pining Eddie era? that Buck is in crisis?
Because after Eddie was shot he got together pretty immediately with Taylor, after Eddie left he kissed Lucy, now he's dating Natalia after almost dying? A death doula? talk about morbid.
What was the point of that romance? If you can call it that?
In between we have wedding talks, and smores, and Christopher falling asleep on the couch while Eddie goes to get some smores in perfect imitation of Buck, and buddie sitting impossibly closer in the truck while talking about proposals and that damned camera moving to Eddie and Buck when Bobby says "It means you two were meant to be." - Like WTF?
Also, Why would we like Natalia for Buck if her reaction to learning about his life is to walk away as fast as her legs would take her??
And remember when I talked about intruding in the beginning (in connection to 6x12)? Well here we are again.
We have at first Cameron barging in (like Connor, in 6x12) and load all her problems with the other problem child in her life and then in 6x18, Buck leaves the door open for the paramedics, but Natalia barges in through the doors, and then also goes as far as asking if they shouldn't wait for the professionals, either forgetting Buck is a firefighter and is trained for it or doubting him even before they started something together, instead of asking him "have you done this before?" or "Do you know what you're doing?"
That would have gone over way better than looking for outside help inside someone else's apartment who gives you clear instructions of how you can help, it's pretty obvious that he at least half knows what he's doing.
And what the hell was it that made him ask the woman who not, say around three hours ago? came back into his life after leaving him to his mess (Ana, anyone?), to pick out a couch with him?? like wtf?
Like what was the point of it?
Now that I've covered Buck, I'm back to heartbroken Eddie, and don't tell me he wasn't on some level. That look he gave Buck at the cemetery, tells a long and painful story, the one where the bottom line is that he is not enough.
For the first time, in a really long time, Eddie is not enough to the one person who made him feel like he's everything.
Buck saved his life more than once, he SAT with him when he was going through A HARD TIME! (bathena parallels - scream with me!)
What is happening?
In complete rehearse of S4 - Eddie is going for help to everyone but Buck.
This time, it takes the shape of Bobby, on that father in-law, trip to the hardware store, where Bobby gives Eddie the right answer, but Eddie is not ready, not willing or doesn't think it will help to accept it.
Because that person that Bobby was paralleling to Athena ( in a vague way, of course) is Buck, and Eddie knows that too. - He says "So you definitely weren't looking for it." Eddie didn't look for Buck, he found him, he made Buck like him, made him his friend, his co-parent, his pretty much everything.
Because without Buck, Eddie has always floundered, looking for some anchor in the dark, whichever form it may come. - And while Ana came out of nowhere and Eddie was not yet aware of the potential of him and Buck and was stuck in the heteronormative narrative of a "Boy needs his momma" concept, he's well aware now.
Without Buck to steady him, he clings to the next person, who is "right in front" of him, and that is Marisol. It doesn't make her right for him, it just makes her there.
Now, how in the hell did they exchange numbers but talked for the first time weeks after everyone healed (except for Buck, somehow, lol), when in 6x17 Eddie was walking away, is beyond me, maybe telepathically. 🤷‍♂️ - And that "Like a date?" - that awkward first conversation is incomprehensible to me, you've talked, you've exchanged numbers, why does it feel like it's the first time?
Also that rescue in 6x18, I have a lot of medical and procedural questions about that half baked (like Maya's lasagna) scene, but what bugged me the most, was the lack of emotion.
Buck's entire family was in danger, and Buck is being entirely too cold about it? No. Buck wears his heart on his sleeve.
So where is the checking on Eddie as soon as possible, just to make sure he's breathing normally? Where's the hovering over Bobby?
Or going in the ambulance with Chimney? Or calling his sister? Why is Athena the one handling Eddie so gently, but not his best friend?
Where is the emotion? In season 1 Buck said he didn't want to be that red eyed robot, he wanted to be able to feel everything, where did that go? Has Buck resorted to working with his head instead of his heart? Is that the reverting back to Buck 1.0? Not because Buck 1.0 didn't feel anything, it's that he didn't want to get close to anyone who could leave him.
Is that what it is? Because the only real emotion Oliver gave us for that episode, was when held Buck's baby for that split second then handed him to Cameron. - There, and gone.
Now both JLH and Oliver stark are masters at making people FEEL things, tear up with them, why not here? What was the mechanics behind that emergency?
It wasn't interim captain Buck - that was Hen ("Hen that's you"), So what was that??
I have so many question, a lot of WHY, and WHAT, and WTF?? and a variety of WH questions. My mind is a confused mess, if buddie is nonexistent, explain this to me.
Go back to that gut wrenching scene in 2x08 (BUCK ACTUALLY) and make that journey with me up to those confusing 15 minutes of 6x18. - And explain this to me in a way that doesn't sound like stubborn blindness among other things, how buddie is only in our heads?!
If you've managed to get this far, thank you.
Sorry if I insulted someone but seriously this is driving me crazy.
Sending comforting hugs to this beautiful and nutty fandom 🤗❤

Robby is the underdog - Part 1
Tumblr media
Robby might lose "important" fights, but he's always been way more important in the story than the characters he's lost those fights to. Narratively, he's been set up as the underdog since his introduction, while the character many people like to believe is the underdog hasn't been an underdog for most of the show. The underdog is supposed to lose the important fights until the end. That's one thing that makes them the underdog. They have the potential, and we're shown it, but they just don't get there until the end of the story. At this point, a lot of fans are rooting for Robby to win the final tournament because we know he can (and he should).
The fights aren't everything though about the story, though many people like to reduce the story down to those. The fights themselves serve a purpose in the story, but they aren't the story.
There are so many aspects of the story that indicate that Robby is the underdog. Like, people really miss that Robby is Daniel in this story. I'm saying this from Miguel's perspective. In s1, after hearing Johnny's version of what happened with Daniel in kk1, Miguel started to view Robby as Daniel in Miguel's own story when he saw Robby having dinner with Sam and her family. Robby then showed up at the lake party with Sam the next night, and Miguel tried to fight Robby when he tried to defend Sam, like Johnny had tried to fight Daniel over Ali at the beach party in kk1. Robby also showed up at the avt and fought his way up to the championship match. In Miguel's story, Robby is the new kid that randomly showed up and tried to take his girl and his trophy, like Johnny had said about Daniel in Johnny's own story.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In s3, in the car scene with Daniel, many people laud Miguel for getting Daniel to see Johnny's side, but that was the point. Miguel didn't want to understand Daniel's side, because Daniel's side is Robby's side. (Miguel had attacked Robby that day in school in s2, acting on his unjustified anger and jealousy towards Robby, and Miguel has taken zero accountability for that and instead blamed Johnny and acted like Tory was at fault for his own choices and actions that day in school.) Miguel wanted Daniel to validate Miguel's side. Daniel had told Miguel that Johnny and Ali had been broken up for a few weeks when Daniel and Ali met and eventually started dating. In s2, Miguel and Sam had been broken up for a few weeks when Miguel saw Robby and Sam on a date at the roller rink. Miguel gaslit Sam about his own behavior in s1, using her date with Robby weeks later to tell her that he himself should be the one pissed off and blaming her for "making" him "think" he'd acted like a paranoid asshole in s1 (which he had). In s3, in the convo with Daniel, Miguel was explaining his own feelings about how he felt about Robby and Sam dating. Sam is Miguel's supposed first love, like Ali was Johnny's first love. Robby got in the way of Miguel and Sam in Miguel's pov, like Daniel got in the way of Johnny and Ali in Johnny's pov.
There are so many other things that indicate that Robby's the "Daniel" and the underdog in the story, like how Robby's had more story similarities to Daniel. Robby's trained in both Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai. He got full season arcs that play significant roles in his character journey. Robby's also been so central to the characters and to the karate dojo war.
Robby has always been Miyagi-Do at heart, even when he was in Cobra Kai, while Miguel has always been Cobra Kai/Eagle Fang throughout the series. Interestingly, in this post by the official cobrakaiseries ig account, the original shot of Robby and Miguel in the show is mirrored here so that Robby is below Daniel and Miguel is below Johnny, with the caption "it's the same photo".
Tumblr media
Sure, Johnny and Miguel may be advertised as the "Miyagi and Daniel" of this story, but this story is from the perspective of the bully. Johnny was Daniel's bully in kk1, and Miguel has been Robby's bully in this story. In s5, Miguel "won" the rivalry he started with Robby. Robby had no agency in Miguel starting this rivalry and repeatedly attacking him, and in s5, because of Johnny, Robby had no agency in Miguel ending the rivalry on his own terms, with Robby's side of the whole story being completely ignored. In the end, Robby had to give in to Miguel in order to appease Johnny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robby's apprehension before the fight
Tumblr media
Robby's pause before nodding and giving in after the fight and one-sided "reconciliation"
Bullying is a dynamic in which there is a power imbalance. A parent-child relationship is a relationship in which there is a natural power imbalance. I've always thought of Robby as the underdog in the story because he has mainly been going up against Johnny's behavior towards him throughout the series (and his whole life). In s5, Robby fawned after Johnny in the Mexico trip to not be abandoned by him, and Robby fawned after Johnny and Miguel after the apartment fight and the baby news to be safe around them. s5 just reinforces my belief about Robby being the underdog mainly because he's going up against Johnny's behavior. By the end of s5, Robby hasn't only lost his "important" fights or lost in Miguel's rivalry with him, but Robby has lost against Johnny too.
"And if we're gonna be taken seriously, we need a name that commands respect. A name that illicits power and dominance. Cobras are strong. They may be the king of the jungle, but the world's more than just a jungle. And there's only one animal that can kill a snake."
"A mongoose?"
"A real animal, Bert."
In s3, Johnny and Bert have this exchange when Johnny was announcing the name of their new dojo in the park: Eagle Fang Karate!
Interestingly, when Miguel and Robby start their s1 final match, the soundtrack that plays is called The Cobra and the Mongoose.
The inclusion of the "mongoose", that is the "only one animal that can kill a snake", already existed in s1 via the soundtrack. In fact, mongooses are known to kill king cobras. Also, interesting, hawks and eagles are natural predators to mongooses that sneak up on them, swooping down, lifting them into the air, and crushing them before they can put up a fight.
In s1, "Hawk" played a crucial role in Miguel, the "Cobra", being able to win against Robby, the "Mongoose". If Robby with an injured arm was able to tie Miguel 2-2 in their match, imagine how well Robby would have done without his injury. Both Hawk and Miguel had done sneak attacks on Robby to injure him and re-injure him, respectively. Miguel has done multiple sneak attacks on Robby throughout the series, like in the school fight and at the waterpark. Although, Miguel was technically still a "Cobra" in the school fight, Miguel's mentality hasn't changed since, so he was technically an "Eagle" then too. The main (and probably only) difference between Cobra Kai and Eagle Fang is the "show mercy" teaching of Eagle Fang.
In s3, Johnny dismissed the existence of a mongoose, like how Johnny dismisses Robby's existence unless Johnny is forced to remember him, like on prom night in s4. In s5, Johnny dismissed Robby again when he got upset that Johnny had tricked him (that is, when Robby stood up for himself), so Robby started fawning after him to appease him.
In s5, while everyone viewed Silver, a "King Cobra", as the greatest threat, Robby's greatest threats were Johnny and Miguel, the two "Eagles" (though, mostly Johnny because he is the one in control of the whole dynamic between them.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robby stood firm against Silver for Tory, Kenny, and the Valley, but Robby backed down with Johnny and Miguel when it came to standing up for himself.
It's heavily implied and set up that Robby is the one amongst the kids who's meant to play the most important role in taking down Cobra Kai once and for all in the end. However, Johnny especially will continue to be a threat and obstacle to Robby being able to achieve that victory as long as Johnny stays an "Eagle" because his behavior has always been a detriment to Robby (of course it has). I have more thoughts on this and plan to do a part two to this post to focus more on Robby as an underdog wrt Johnny.
(Note: Please don't reblog or reply with any dismissive comment or tag expressing negativity towards the show writers, the writing, or the serious aspects of the show. Such comments/tags minimize the contents of the post. This blog (link) explains more about my general thoughts about posting after s5.)

okay but the 100 could have been so epic if s3 had covered that three month span after s2 and actually expanded on grounder culture and shown how arkadia formed - and then every so often it would cut to jaha doing stuff for alie, murphy trapped in his bunker and clarke just stalking through the woods, slowly losing it - and it could end with that rover scene because we deserved one season that ended on a happy note.
but THENNN an entire season could have also been spent on the six year time jump - which would give the characters much more time to develop and show how they all bonded together. imagine if we had a whole season to show clarke and madi growing close, to show clarke slowly adjust to how different everything is now and get used to being apart of a happy little family. imagine if we had a whole season to see octavia become blodreina, to watch each decision take its toll on her and see her go more and more dark until she makes a choice she doesn’t think she can come back from. imagine seeing spacekru adjust to being at peace for the first time ever, imagine them being a bunch of idiots doing random shit for fun because they have the time and the freedom for once.

van scene dialogue analysis
thinking about the van scene again (what's new?) but this time, one specific part. "it's just that she's (i'm) so different from other people. and when you're different, sometimes, you feel like a mistake. but you make her feel like she's (i'm) not a mistake at all. like she's (i'm) better for being different." now buckle up, because this is gonna get long. the thing is, this veiled confession was veiled. as in disguised. this means that everything it contains is objectively true because there was no need for will to lie. let's get really into it now.
"it's just that she's (i'm) so different from other people." why is he different from other people? there are multiple reasons beside his sexuality actually, one is definitely that he's been exposed to so much and at such a young age that it would've permanently altered his thought process and perception of self and the world to be so traumatized at such a young age. and the worst part is that people won't let him go with that image they've set up for him even if its out of love. he's constantly being reminded of the fact that he's different because of the horrible things he's gone through, that in turn reminding him of the things he's gone through. it's just a vicious cycle. and will's said this before in s2. he's talked about how joyce and other people "babying" him makes him feel like even more of a freak because he can't escape from the constant alienation (again misguided alienation done our of love from joyce) from his peers and family. and maybe trying esp hard to move on or be normal isn't the most healthy response to this but it's healthier than constantly being reminded that there's a rift between him and his peers because of reasons he can't even control.
"and when you're different, sometimes, you feel like a mistake." now this part i believe adds in to his sexuality, because technically the first part of his problems are not because of him. they can be played off as some otherwordly force and destiny, but this most likely won't be will's thought process. but will feels like a mistake. something that went awry in the code. 0s and 1s but he suddenly was a 2. anyway, a mistake is something you make. and i think that's the factor at play here. will feels like a mistake because he wasn't able to shove down the gayness in him. he wasn't able to keep it down until it got squashed deep in his gut and he never thought about it. i think this is why he had such a visceral reaction to "it's not my fault you don't like girls" because he's been trying and trying to not let it show and his best friend saw and knew and alienated him again, but in the bad way, which he never did before. infact he never alienated him like that before either. so it hurts more. so i believe that will was talking about his sexuality in this part (not fully, he still does feel like a mistake bc of ptsd/supernatural elements) but since he believes that he's made himself a mistake by not pushing his sexuality down further, and allowed himself to be different for reasons he feels like he can control (NOT TRUE).
"but you make her feel like she's (i'm) not a mistake at all. like she's (i'm) better for being different." THIS is why will byers will get a happy ending. because mike has consistently been a person that's never babey'd him and alienated him and caused him to hate himself for something he couldn't control. mike has however caused him to hate himself for doing something he believes he can control, and will thinks that if he can't push it down, it might as well come out. and we've been told this by one half of the ship himself that he feels like he doesn't have to push his gayness down (make himself a mistake) around mike (HENCE THE CONFESSION) and he's the one who didn't make him feel alienated for something he couldn't control. also there's the point of him saying "i'm not gonna fall in love" in s3, which was actually that he wouldn't get the chance to fall in love normally. yet another thing that alienates him from the masses. so for his character arc to end satisfyingly, he should be able to NEVER feel like a mistake, or that he's worse for being different and he SHOULD be able to get to experience love like everybody else. his opinions about himself should be disproved! the only conceivable option for his arc to end satisfyingly is byler endgame <3

I’m looking forward to Gayle Rankin as Alys, she has a lot of screen presence and seems a good fit for a smaller part like this, where she can make an instant impression. I’m sad Alys is not older, but I couldn’t hold out hope for these execs to okay casting a woman in her 40s if she’s going to have love scenes. Sadly doesn’t seem like something they would do 😔 But I’m also curious how much time we will get in Harrenhal before Aemond even takes it. If they’re currently filming there, I would be shocked for him to be in the Riverlands before season two is over. Would we see her and Daemon interacting first? Could be interesting!
it's a decision i understand from a PR perspective (it's not just tv execs who are ageist, the general public is, too), but i can't help but feel a little apathetic about it. it's not like there aren't any talented 40 year old actresses out there that could have slayed in this role. if you would have shown me a picture of ewan & gayle together before this show i wouldn't have guessed they were supposed to be an age-gap couple
i haven't personally seen gayle in anything but the casting directors have been fantastic so far so they must have their reasons for picking her. she'll have many moments to shine in the show, as i expect aemond & alys to become the next daemyra. however, my personal bet/hope is that S2 ends with rook's rest, so that would mean they get to meet in S3. so, agreed, alys and daemon interacting would be really interesting on screen
a lot of people interpreted emily's audition as her mocking daemon but i kind of got the impression she was negging him a little. i've always seen her as a free agent, ambitious and out for herself first and foremost, i don't see why she would intentionally antagonize her dragonlord occupier or think it a good strategy to lecture him on morality points lol

@le-red-queen hey listen, listen imagine you’ve only seen s1-3 and you’ve got a six month wait to s4.
IN DEFENSE OF ONCE UPON A TIME READING JOHNNY AS BI (AND NOW READING HIM AS GAY)...
you’re waiting for season 4 and you’re thinking, “okay johnny genuinely seems to want to be in a relationship with a woman, so presumably in s4 we’re going to see how that relationship works, because he’s been in (granted failed) relationships in the past and is trying to get into a relationship/going on dates now and yeah, it makes sense he’d think of carmen, because she’s sweet and he wants the best for her and he already gets on well with her son, and sure maybe “I love you” is a bit extreme (especially since he’s also just been wondering if he maybe should give it a go with his ex from highschool who popped up in town again), but he hasn’t dated in awhile and he’s not very emotionally developed, the point is, the point! Is! That! he’ll actually be dating carmen in s4 (the first woman we’ve actually seen him in a relationship with in canon -- ali and shannon were already in the past when we met them -- and shannon appears to be the only “proper” relationship he’s had as an adult and it went... you know...)
so we’ll see the natural progression of:
man goes on some dates with various women and then he and his neighbour think “hey this could be something” to exploring what that “something looks like -- in s3 we even got that cute double-date with daniel and amanda, where she teaches him some dance moves (genuinely Cute, actually gets carmen out of the house!).
BUT THEN IN SEASON FOUR WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS
IS THAT HE COMPLETELY CHECKS OUT OF THAT RELATIONSHIP
HE TANKS HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH HER SON BECAUSE THE WAY HE VALUED THE RELATIONSHIP WITH SAID SON HAS NOW BEEN CONFUSED WITH HIS ROLE AS “ALSO ROMANTIC PARTNER OF THIS KID’S MOTHER”
AND HE DOES! NOT! ACT! LIKE A ROMANTIC PARTNER! NOT EVEN A BAD/INCONSIDERATE/EMOTIONALLY IMMATURE ROMANTIC PARTNER! HE’S NOT PRESENT! HE’S FUCKING IT UP WITH THIS KID AND HE’S FUCKING IT UP WITH CARMEN
and you know why?
because he’s so obsessed with this other guy who has low/highkey been on his mind since highschool and THEIR changing relationship is taking up so much more of his brain space (and he WANTS it to, to be clear -- he doesn’t know he wants it to, but he sure does think about it day and night)
he’s not trying to be mean to this lovely woman, but getting into a relationship with her made the ideal of Being In A Relationship With A Woman a reality and he just
doesn’t engage with that reality
instead he engages (mentally, physically, emotionally) with the relationship with this other man -- both when it works (the two of them training together, making dinner together, training each other, the reconciliation end s4, etc) and when it doesn’t (what should we tell the kids? the daniel and johnny re-match, the training to beat him at the all-valley, etc). This is the relationship that he cares about in s4 -- not because he’s trying to be mean, but he’s just not very self-aware of what it is his body does/drives him towards
and on top of that the sheer amount of mentions of men, idolations of men, and general sense of his focus on masculinity is taken to 1000
and just to give it an extra push, we get an in-your-face scene of him being unable to have sex with this lovely woman (which I am now obsessed with calling the “noble look of suffering” or “the Joan of Arc look” thank you @bobakick and @nomercyonlytears and @libertinepast and @dull-c) because of all of the above
so look, yes s1-3 I figured “I can read this guy as bi,” and did so during the break between s3 and s4
but when s4 dropped, everything before then was put into a whole new context in my (and I think some others) brain
LAST THING: billy even called the relationship between daniel and johnny in s4 a “shotgun vegas wedding” (paraphrasing) so reading in that romantic connotation to their interactions is very near the surface/intentional
TL;DR s1-3 suggests an ongoing narrative of johnny being in some way interested in women, and particularly carmen, as a way of furthering his character development, but season 4 gave all the romantic context (and arguably sexual context) to his perception of men generally and daniel specifically

Okay, first of... I adore you and your metas and just ❤️❤️❤️
But also, two things. I'm re-watching and I realised that, even though Eddie knows as early as s2e01 that Buck was left by his gf, he somehow never knew Abby was a 911 dispatcher? At least according to a scene in Powerless. I mean... the Abby topic might be a sore one but surely, they would have had at least one convo about her. And a big part of who she was and how she came into Buck's life is her being a dispatcher.
Which leads me to the conversation Buck and Abby have at the end of What's Next? and how Abby says that she was a person whose life revolved around other people's problems and that she had "no identity" other than the people she helped. And that she left to figure out who she was. Part of which was leaving Buck and never looking back.
Isn't that what Eddie is going through as well, figuring out who he is, i mean. How cute would it be if the end of his journey, of him finding his identity, would be to be with Buck.
Sorry for the weird, and possibly already discussed, braindump ❤️❤️❤️
Awwwww, Nonnie! Thank you SO MUCH for the lovely words and I hope you can feel just how big I’m hugging you right now!
Oh, the talk they have in the truck on the way to the hot air balloon call in 317. I always assumed that Buck has told Eddie all about Abby and how she hurt him (Eddie already knew the gist of it from Chim in 201, clearly heard even more details by 204, and then 318 makes it clear he knows everything hurtful about Abby and her r/s with Buck), I wouldn’t think he’d leave out her being a dispatcher. So based on that, I believe I wrote in the 317 back in the day that Buck probably didn’t wanna upset Eddie by bringing her up, so instead he just says, “I heard dispatch gets...” without specifying who at dispatch filled him in. Eddie at that moment has more than one option, since Buck has a sister who works there, through which he has also befriended at least one other dispatcher, Josh. Both are more current fixtures at the end of s3 in Buck’s life than Abby. So Eddie goes for the most likely option, Maddie. Buck denies, but he’s also very awkward about it. We don’t get a cut back to Eddie’s face after that, but I always assumed if we did, we’d see him serving one of his patented, “I know when you’re bullshitting me, husband, but I’m gonna let it slide until you’re ready to tell me. 'Coz we both know you will.” Basically, Buck doesn’t wanna bring up Abby, Eddie doesn’t wanna press, but that doesn’t mean Eddie doesn’t know Abby is one of the contenders for who said that stuff to Buck.
YEEES! The difference between Abby and Eddie as Buck’s potential soulmates is glaring with that one, isn’t it? ‘Coz Abby needed to find herself and she didn’t come back. We always knew Eddie would. But then she doesn’t come back because she eventually chooses to walk away from being a first responder, she feels drained by helping others and realizes she can’t continue to do it anymore. I wrote in the 318 meta post that Buck is the opposite of that, he IS that guy who WANTS to run into burning buildings to save others. And the thing is, so is Eddie. Ali chose to walk away from the first responders life, Abby did as well, but Eddie didn’t really want to. He felt compelled by what he heard from Chris. He was going through a lot, so he overreacted and quit instead of communicating with his son, but he never actually wanted to be away from saving others, which is why even before he’s resolved all of his issues, he goes to Bobby, wanting back in. Even when quitting, he still found a job that was firefighting-adjacent, one that allowed him to still help and save people, like we saw in 511. The things he has to figure out aren’t going to change this about who Eddie essentially is, on the contrary, they’ll only reinforce that this is who he is, a guy who cares a lot and wants to help others. Just like Buck. Which is precisely why yep, Eddie will ALWAYS choose to be with him. The way these two are so compatible, I AM WEEPING.
Thank you so much for the ask, Nonnie! And I’m so sorry if my own ramble is weird and unhinged, but they make me feel things. Have a great day! xoxox
(I got an influx of asks, I WILL answer all of them, but it might take a sec. If anyone wants to check whether I've already answered theirs or to read my replies, here's my ask tag. Thank you! xoxox)

sum ejen ali pet peeves i have and its mostly rudy cause they did her dirty:
rudy should have had longer hair as a kid. she was around 6 or 7, and probably went without haircuts for years. her hair should have been pretty long and she only cut it when she got to MATA
i REALLY hate how they did rudy in s3. Like i luv it but i hate it also cause I like the development where she helps ali and the rest of her friends and shows a lot of sympathy now for the others but also did she completely forget what happened with Djinn? there was only a small scene in episode 10 where Aleks mentioned something that reminded him of Djinn but other than that??? nothing???
i will fight the writers like my god
what SHOULD have happened is the same thing that happened to Rizwan, where its a dream sequence, except its the entire episode mostly where he keeps invisioning himself as Djin but by the end of it he gets over his trauma like eda with her owl curse
i rlly hope she gets a hair change in the movie or s4 cause i will fight god if that doesnt happen
idk i want to give her more friends
i know this may be a stretch but rudy might be a failed clone of rizwan. theyre super similar like with their powers and camoflage and personalities and their relationship with djinn. He could have been a failed clone and discarded, but Djinn ran into him and then soon in the movie or s4 he finds out that there were so many failed experiments before him and he was the closest they got before they terminated the project and then it begins his conflict of who he is really and if he still wants to be an agent anymore
"of course im messed up! thats my freaking father!!"
autism lol
has curly hair but straightens it to look more like djinn

Squibby’s Anniversary goodies from Magia Record’s 6th anniversary campaign!!
I used to do this on Twitter before that site went to crap
So now I’m doing it here!! The goodies and other info will be under the read more.
So this is my 3rd full year of playing and my 4th anniversary since I started playing on the third anniversary lol.
Tumblr media
4 slot Akuma Homura ! I got her 4 slotted in under 200 rolls. So slay.
1s Ao hell yeah!! I know she’s good for water kimochi and my water supports are like just yachiyo’s and mayu lol
1 to 2s hannah
3 to 4s Ren (rise dark ae! Rise!!!)
Kimochi S3 🥳
2 to 4s Kushu
1s Urara (yoyo!!)
1 to 2s Mayu (freedom from 1 slot hell with her haha)
2 to 3s Tsukuyo
Tumblr media
1s swim Sakura (this!!! Is what I’m talking about okay. I don’t want to get spooked but like this is a cool spook and I remember it was early on with the limited free pulls so I’m not complaining! Very glad to have her!
Tumblr media
4s ebony !! Wow so excited that I got her 4 slotted so easily
3 to 4 slot Fariytale yachiyo (coin shop slot!)
2 to 4s Doppel Kyoko. It was hard to resist going for a 4 slot Ali Karin but doppel Kyoko was the move in the end haha
Mifuyu 2s to 4 slot
1 to 4slot Darkness Mitama (cough bag, cough 🫣)
1s Kirika (yes Dark AE RISE! GET ONLY STRINGER)
1 to 2s Mikage
1 to 3s Momoko
1 to 2s Ryouko
S1 in mirrors!!! 🥳🥳 (finally! Lol)
I don’t remember when this happened but I got spooked by dark mitama so I got another 4 destiny crystals saved up! Just one more!! Ooooh how exciting.
And then I was Pity Spooked by yunas last slot which yay ae and honestly yay yuna love her (give her an alt already damn it) but like I want kimochi lavi!!!
But I shouldn’t complain these banners have been so kind to me (which good!! May I remind you of the horrors of last year!! Like 300 rolls into IroMado and I didn’t pull them once. They are by far my most expensive unit. 2 innocent gems, a destiny crystal, and a coin shop. At least I got many copies of pajama party lol)
But somehow with me throwing every possible gem and ticket I got into the limited gacha I was able to grab another shop slot so I was be able to get Kimochi Lavi! She’s like super strong at 1 slot! (Wellll I do have her 100 se now and gave her damage cut but still strong lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also!!! Now here’s lil recap for my side account
3 slot Akuma Homura
a 4 slot dark mitama (which wow damn okay haha. I paid for her slots on main)
3 slot anime yachiyo
And then for shits and giggles I put a single ticket into misuru’s banner andddddd I got her! In one pull… (wish that happened on main she’s super good, and also she’s so expressive?? Like she’s so adorable) so side account finally looking pretty beefy. Just need to work on se materials and ae
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So wow go off side account.
Overall!! I’m so so happy with this years anniversary!! So happy with both of my accounts! Can’t believe akuma homura is here, scene 0 is finally coming, new COLLABS?? Magia record looking good this year! Which is very exciting!
Here’s to many more years to come!!!
🥳🥳

honorhearted asked : 💖 for a reason TO date my muse (cuz I feel like we all know why NOT to lmao.)
To date or not to date. / @honorhearted -- accepting
The bad thing with this is that I might not offer much of a detailed answer on why you should date Abe, as I provided for Astrid & Lydia, so this might get boring quickly. In general, almost all of Abe’s ships have an ounce, a pinch, or a gallon of toxicity involved in them. (Even if you ship Townhull, Abe basically forced Townsend to become a spy and they seemed better by the end, but I feel like these two would have huge communication and jealousy issues on Abe’s side). Aly and I spoke once that Abe is implied to be a different person before his brother’s death (I think Ben and Anna both mention Abe isn’t the Abe they know). I think, too, after his time in the Sugar House prison, Abe is entirely a different person from how he was in s1 just by his morals alone. He’s a hardened man, more confident in himself, but ultimately more reckless once his confidence got in the way. (Some of this might’ve been influenced by his first murder, but that’s an introspection for another time). With Abe and how he is, I believe no relationship with Abe is going to be entirely healthy.
Onto some reasons why you should date Abe, even if they are small in comparison.
Abe is a relatively good father. I say relatively because, with his spying in s2, he wasn’t at home a lot. And honestly, the whole Rogers thing was out of his control, so I forgive him for having Thomas around Rogers in s3. He’s not going to be the type of guy that bounces after you admit you're pregnant. (If this is an affair, this would make things complicated, but I don’t think Abe would step away from a father role. I honestly think he would come clean about the affair if he had a child with someone else). But he seems to really love Thomas and when he’s around him, he seems to be attentive. I mean Thomas was the main reason why he got involved in the spy ring. Yay for not being the most scummy person on Earth? Points for Abester?
        Richard’s money and Whitehall
Abe is reckless and he deals with his anger often, but I think someone might find his protective nature endearing? Idk. Abe is basically willing to defend you and his home, even if he’s reckless about it.
Generally, Abe wouldn’t want his spying to affect you. This might not always work out though. So good intention point for Abe? Minus one point for the poor execution?
I usually point out that Abe/Anna didn’t really have much chemistry and I think if we saw more of them interacting nicely, without their marriages and the affair being a thing, people might be more on board with them. But Abe can be charming, and witty, and I think he can be a good communicator in general (not in a feelings way). If you two have chemistry, there might be some memorable conversations and jokes. But this ultimately depends on the dynamic and circumstances. I kind of think of Mary and Abe practicing to shoot the musket scene when I say this.
Abe might not be the best husband, or show his feelings that well, but at least he was concerned about how to provide for Thomas for the long term? So no deadbeat dad moments?
I honestly think that if we knew more about how Abe used to be and not how he was changed by the war, we might get a better idea of how Abe is in a relationship. (Or how postwar Abe might be since his relationship with Mary is more “normal” and “healthy” at the end of s4). I can be sympathetic to Abe, more than some are, but this area doesn’t show his good qualities.

they do water down the abuse daniel went through though ☹️
I agree that Daniel’s trauma isn’t centered nearly as much as Johnny’s in the overall narrative, but when it comes to watering it down, I’m not sure I completely agree. I remember seeing a post a while back that I’m having trouble finding again now, but it completely broke down all of Daniel’s trauma responses in the show and the subtle ways in which they manifested. And it also contrasted the way in which everyone in Daniel’s life seems to water down his trauma, and the way in which the writing itself shows that he’s clearly suffering from pretty severe ptsd. Which is actually something I really like about the show? Because it shows the complete opposite ways Daniel and Johnny have dealt with all the shit that’s happened to them, but how in the end they’re still equally destructive. Like, Johnny’s life is a complete mess. He took what happened to him and let it completely consume him. And everyone around him can see that. I mean, he literally tells anyone who will listen about how awful Sid was to him. But Daniel has buried everything down so deep and kept everything inside and it’s made him so tightly wound. He has a visceral reaction to seeing Cobra Kai is back and becomes downright obsessive about taking them down. I want to try and find that post and link it bc I don’t have the memory to break down all of Daniel’s trauma responses lol, but I do think it’s interesting and noteworthy how Daniel has a seemingly perfect life at the start if the series, and how everything turns to shit for him once Cobra Kai comes back. And not really through any fault of Johnny’s, but just because Daniel feels so threatened and triggered (in the true sense of the word) by the presence of the dojo that he went to extreme lengths to get rid of it, and ended up escalating everything into a full blown karate war. Like, maybe it is just wishful thinking, but I feel like in the next couple seasons Daniel’s trauma will take a more central role in the story. I guess we’ll find out in a few weeks, I could be giving the writers too much credit and just end up being massively disappointed lol

Ciara!! Congrats on 7k, you’re wonderful and deserve it!! As for the prompt if I may can I prompt you that “midnight kiss on a new year Eve” moment from friends? 🥺💖
Ahh for you, madina, of course!!! 💖💖💖
based on the scene in friends where joey kisses chandler during the new year's countdown (but i also included joey and janine's new year's kiss bc that's a Good one too)
set the new year’s eve of s3!
hope you like it! :'))
-
Buck’s always liked New Year’s as a holiday.
He guesses it shouldn’t really be surprising given his tendency to turn his personal progress into software updates but he likes the fresh start of it all. The fact that he can start again with a clean slate and try to get things right. It’s about new beginnings and setting goals and hope.
And what can he say? He likes ending the year with a kiss.
Since they worked Christmas day this year they get New Year’s Eve off which is a better deal, honestly. The Christmas shift is usually quiet enough that they can at least get a traditional dinner at the station squeezed in somewhere – or a party with all their friends and family, if you’re determined like Buck had been – but once the fireworks start going off on New Year’s it’s usually back to back calls for twelve hours straight. It’s almost as bad as Fourth of July.
They’re at Bobby and Athena’s place tonight – just their core group and partners. It’s not really how Buck is used to spending the holiday but he likes this better, he thinks. You couldn’t pay him to be stuck in the middle of a sweaty crowd in a club right now.
He lets his eyes scan the room, mouth curving up in a smile at the sight of his family. Maddie and Chim are squeezed into the loveseat, sharing the same glass of wine after Chim left his in the out on the patio and couldn’t be bothered to go back and get it.
Karen is in the armchair with Hen sitting on the arm of it, hand placed affectionately across Karen’s shoulders. Athena is attempting to clean up somewhat but Bobby keeps following her around and urging her to sit down, hands gentle on her waist as he ushers her back to the extra chairs they’d put out. And Eddie – Eddie is next to him on the couch, nursing a beer and smiling with a kind of ease Buck has missed terribly in the past few months.
“Oh!” Karen says suddenly, looking at her phone. “Only two more minutes to midnight.”
And it’s right about then that Buck’s grin falls off his face.
“Wait. I just realised this is the first New Year’s since I was a teenager that I don’t have anyone to kiss me.”
Chimney immediately rolls his eyes. “Oh boo hoo; some of us actually have someone to kiss at midnight for the first time in a while. Don’t ruin it for me by trying to make me feel guilty.”
Maddie snorts into her wine glass but the look she sends Chim afterwards is so fond it almost makes Buck’s stomach turn.
“I’m serious. I had Ali last year and all the times before that I was-“ He cuts off, clearing his throat uncomfortably. Judging by the varying degree of amused and knowing looks sent his direction, they all can probably guess exactly how he used to spend New Year’s.
“Buck, you don’t haveto kiss someone at New Year’s,” Hen says, sounding far too reasonable for the amount of wine Buck’s seen her put away over the past few hours. “It’s just a stupid tradition.”
“Are you going to kiss Karen?” he asks, eyebrow raised defiantly.
“Yeah but that’s just because I like kissing her.” Hen smirks, punctuating her answer with a kiss to Karen’s cheek and all but flaunting their love in Buck’s very single face.
“You can survive one year without a kiss,” Bobby says, finally sitting down now that he’s coaxed Athena into doing the same. And Buck knows he means well but he doesn’t get it.
“But then I won’t start the New Year off right!”
“One minute,” Athena cuts in, winding an arm around Bobby’s neck and completely ignoring Buck’s dilemma.
He watches, feeling betrayed, frankly, as the others start to tune out of the conversation, turning to their partners in anticipation instead. “Wait, no. This isn’t fair.”
“Ten,” Athena starts.
“Hey guys, come on-“
“Nine…eight…seven…”
“What if we all just-“
“Six…five…”
“Okay seriously. Somebody kiss me.”
“Four…three…”
“Somebody kiss me. Somebody kiss me. Somebody-“
Eddie sighs loudly beside him, mutters an exasperated, “Jesus Christ,” and leans in to press a smacking kiss to Buck’s lips right as the rest of their friends shout, “Happy New Year!”
It only lasts a few seconds. Can’t be longer than the length of an exhale. But Buck freezes entirely, feeling a little like the fireworks outside are a metaphor for whatever the hell is going on in his brain right now.
Eddie pulls back, slumping back into his seat and taking a resolute pull of his beer and Buck can only stare in awe until Hen snickers somewhere to his right.
“Oh that’s definitely going on the fridge in the firehouse.”
He turns to her, dazed, and sees her holding her phone up to show Karen what is presumably a picture of him and Eddie kissing. Holy shit.
No one else seems even the least bit aware of how earth-shattering this is. Instead, they’re laughing, talking, passing around the bottle of champagne Michael has brought over from the kitchen – like what just happened is nothing more than a funny anecdote that’s already been forgotten.
But Buck looks at Eddie then and he raises his head when he feels Buck’s eyes on him, sending Buck a helpless smile that almost feels like-
Well.
Hope.
-
It’s later – much later – when they finally leave Bobby and Athena’s place.
Eddie is carrying a sleeping Christopher out to the car and Buck keeps pace with him on the way out, opening the car door so Eddie can get Chris situated in the backseat. When he’s closed car door he turns to Buck. “You wanna come back with me?”
He could leave with Maddie and Chimney. Hell, he could stay here if he wanted. But he’s never been able to say no to Eddie and tonight, it’s not even a question.
“Yeah,” he breathes, rocking on his heels and making no move to get in the truck because he just- he has to ask. “So, um. You kissed me.”
Eddie scoffs. “You asked.”
“Not you specifically.”
Eddie only raises his eyebrows. “I’m so sorry; would you have rather your sister kissed you? Or your sister’s boyfriend? Or our captain who treats you like his son? Or-“
“I would’ve kissed Hen,” he protests weakly and Eddie laughs.
“Yeah but she wouldn’t have kissed you.”
“Ouch,” Buck hisses but then he’s laughing too and swaying just that little bit closer to Eddie on the pavement.
“I mean, I needed a New Year’s kiss too…” Eddie says then, lifting a shoulder in a half-hearted shrug.
And it’s. Maybe it’s the fireworks still going off in the distance or the faint buzz he feels from the beer even though he stopped drinking two hours ago or the warmth in his stomach or something but- Buck feels brave.
“You didn’t even give me any warning,”
Eddie frowns. “What difference does it make?”
“Well, you deserved a good New Year’s kiss too,” he says, not quite able to meet Eddie’s eyes but not able to look away either. “I would’ve given you better than that.” He nods his head in the vague direction of the house and by extension, the living room.
Eddie studies him for a moment, the faintest hint of amusement tilting the corners of his mouth. “Are you asking for a do-over?”
Buck nods, wordlessly, and steps forward so they’re almost toe to toe.
Eddie’s eyes widen, just a little, but then he wets his lip and very quietly says, “Five.”
Buck feels his breath hitch but places his hands on Eddie’s shoulders nonetheless. “Four.”
Eddie’s hand flutters at his waist, not quite touching but catching on the hem of his shirt. “Three.”
Buck leans forward, resting their foreheads together and swallowing down the emotion threatening to take him out at the knees. “Two.”
“One-“
Buck captures Eddie’s lips in a kiss the second he opens his mouth, feeling the word vibrate against his tongue as he draws Eddie in. Eddie melts against him, sighing into his mouth and nudging their noses together to push in closer. And if the last kiss was fireworks, this one is slow burning glow of warmth from the Diaz house porch light. It’s comfort. It’s home.
Buck doesn’t really pull away, just leans back enough to break the kiss and see the way Eddie’s eyelids flutter before he meets his gaze again. And his heart feels- full. Fulfilled.
“Happy New Year, Eds,” he whispers.
He thinks it’s gonna be a good one.

Ok, originally, I said that 5x09 was like a Jinx 2.0 — but that comparison ended up being more apt than I realized. Notably Bobby giving advice, the rhyming metaphor, Hen casting doubts on Eddie and Buck’s relationships with their girlfriends. I’ve compiled a list below, but first let’s talk about “Past is prologue” vs. “The universe is screaming at you and you refuse to listen”.
Buck has been masquerading as different people all season. He has “been Ana”, “we move forward” was basically S3 Eddie word for word, (edit: he was Ali worrying abt Taylor’s safety), and now he’s the Abby of his relationship. Past is prologue — really, we’ve seen it all season.
What’s different now is that this time Eddie calls him out on it. I thought “who does that?” was Eddie’s way of saying “stop being so Buck about everything” like Hen. The more I think about it though, it seems like a condemnation. Eddie saying “who does that?” meant the opposite: “Not you.”
This is Eddie’s way of screaming at Buck to break up with Taylor. At first I thought the Jinx comparison was proof that the BT breakup would only happen later — perhaps around mid-5b. But, my other half @adamsparirsh reminded me that the term “Past is Prologue” — words that Buck said, let me remind you — is about utilizing past experience, past mistakes to influence decisions you make about the future. Eddie is calling out Buck just like Buck did in 5x03, and we all know where that lead.
tldr: “Past is prologue” is the missing piece to “The universe is screaming at you.” “Whereof what's past is prologue; what to come, in yours and my discharge.” — yours and my. Yours and my.

Buddie 4x14 review - if you haven’t watched it yet don’t read.
The episode starts where we left it, once Buck was on the ground, it seems like he was thrust back into reality. I noticed two things here (connected with 4x13) Eddie didn’t close his eyes until Buck was safe behind the truck on the ground. And the second thing is that Buck was spurred into action the moment Eddie’s eyes closed.
And I mean this was some BAMF Buckley right there, that was SEALS trained Evan Buckley! 😱🤩 It’s like training and instinct kicked in and all that mattered was to get to Eddie and get him help as soon as possible, sniper’s bullets be damned. I gotta say it was executed to perfection❣
Big kudos to both Oliver and Ryan for delivering this whole sequence in a heart-wrenching, beautiful manner.
The shooting doesn’t stop and they get Eddie out of there under fire, I really like the 133 captain and crew, they worked so well with the members of the 118, it seemed effortless. (I’m not touching that subject, but let’s picture Buck lifting Eddie bodily up into his arms and in to the truck for just a second here. - I mean we wanted it but not under these circumstances)
Buck taking the role of medic when finally getting Eddie into the truck, is so amazing, he’s usually the one either in need for treatment or the one who stands back and let’s Hen, Chim and Eddie do the medic stuff, it is their jobs after all, but he doesn’t sit back and let the medics of the 133 to take over, he does it himself.
He tore Eddie’s uniform’s buttons open (again, that’s not how any of us wished for this to happen), tore the pressure bandage wrap open and pressed it down on the wound, he did not step back from Eddie, until he absolutely has to, at the hospital. 😭
Eddie, my poor baby, was lying on the ground of the truck, bleeding and half conscious and the one thing he focused on was the blood on Buck’s shirt and he asked him if he’s hurt. I mean I could totally cry, because that’s Eddie. Best friend, combat medic, protective and caring, that never goes away even as he’s lying there bleeding. 🥺🥺
Eddie was legit ready to forget his injuries and try to get up and take care of Buck if he was hurt too. He loses consciousness only when Buck assures him that he’s not hurt.
Buck’s frantic litany of “Just hang on, we’re almost there.” and “I need you to hang on” (“I need you”, not we, not Christopher, “I need you”) was really hard to watch, because even though we all read and wrote it in fanfics thousands of times, watching it actually play out was heartbreaking, I totally teared up with Buck there.🥺🥺
For firefighters the job ends at the hospital doors, so Buck naturally, out of instinct stops from following. But that’s Eddie taken away from him and he looks frozen, at that moment he must have thousands of thoughts running around his head.
“You ok Buckley?”
Buck’s broken “No.” was maybe expected, but it was also earth shattering of sorts. This is Buck standing there, knowing (especially after the well incident) that when Eddie is not okay, he’s not either. 😭❤
I want to point out that I loved the fact that the 133 didn’t just drive away or waited outside for the cops, they went in after Eddie. And after trying to check in on Buck, the Captain of the 133 went in too.
I’m going to point out a parallel here between S3 Finale and S4 finale, in 3x18 Eddie asks Buck if he’s ok as his ex-girlfriend was taken in the ambulance with her new fiancé, Buck’s response was “What’s next?” and going back to work. He was okay, because Eddie was with him, and there was still work to be done.
Here in 4x14, Eddie is taken from him to the hospital, and Buck doesn’t know if he’ll live, so Buck’s obvious answer here is ‘No’.
Later we see Buck exiting the hospital, in his firefighter uniform. I’m a little disappointed we don’t see him cleaning up, I know that could have made for a hell of a scene, Oliver would have killed it, and us in my opinion.
Taylor is coming to the hospital, not as a reporter but as a friend. She was worried. I like that side of her, when she knows to put away the reporter and to make sure her friend is in one piece. Her character development is shown beautifully in this scene.
Buck, in no condition to pretend and speak to the press, turns away from her, he doesn’t trust her at that moment and he doesn’t trust himself not to break down there. He’s teary, still in shock and his hands are shaking like crazy. (in complete contrast to the usual Buck, where he can be in danger or wrap up a crazy rescue and he is normally completely steady.)
Taylor, offered to take Buck to Eddie’s house to see Christopher, telling him he can’t go see Chris looking like he does now. “You can’t got see his son like that.” - At first hear and several others it sounded like “Your son.” - of course it’s not but either way it would have been true too, because in a way Buck has been co-parenting Christopher for a very long time now. And indeed later when Buck gets to Eddie’s house he is washed and dressed in civilian clothes.
The scene with Oli and Gavin killed me! I thought for sure the breaking down will be done in private, but Buck couldn’t hold it together in front of Christopher once he found out Eddie is going to be ok, and Christopher comforting Buck was so so sweet.
Christopher’s “like the ones who fixed you?” Kind of gives us a certain idea as to the conversation Eddie had to have with Christopher when Buck was hurt. His sweet “Then he’s going to be ok,” he says it with such conviction, only adding “right?” only as an afterthought.
And as if he manifested it himself Buck then gets a text from Bobby that tells him that Eddie pulled through surgery and it looks good.
Buck actually dropped the phone from the relief and he started to cry, and sweet, adorable, national treasure Christopher puts an arm around him and tells him that Eddie is going to be okay. I definitely cried with Buck here. It was such a powerful scene and it was portrayed so well by Oliver and Gavin.
The “it’s going to be okay Buck” was kind of a call back to 3x01 - when Christopher reassures Buck and tells him “You’re going to be okay kid.” - I love these two together so much! ❤❤
When Bobby gives them the talk in the firehouse about how they proceed from there, Buck is standing with his arms crossed, looking completely dejected. And when Hen asks about the safety of their families, Bobby says there's no reason to believe they are in danger, Buck pipes in with “We didn’t have a reason to believe Eddie will get shot helping a kid either.” Buck is traumatized, and worried, he sleeps at Eddie’s house looking after Christopher.
I loved Christopher waking Buck up, and them having cereal breakfast together, a call back to Eddie and Christopher having breakfast together in 2x04. Buck doesn’t sit next to Chris, but across from him - to me it says that the seat between them is usually reserved to Eddie when they’re together at the house.
I love how Christopher’s teasing Buck about him snoring. And Buck is later confused because he’s unsure of whether or not Chris really understands what’s happening, but Carla assures him that he already lost his mother, unfortunately he understands better than he or she thinks. Which again should give people a new appreciation for Christopher’s sunshine child attitude.🥺❤
Carla showing up to take Christopher to school, is showing relief that Buck could finally sleep, which means that he didn’t for at least a couple of nights. She’s also asking him how it feels to go to work, Buck doesn’t even think about the sniper, for him all that matters is that Eddie is not out there with him and it feels off. (call back to 2x18 when Eddie seemed pensive about being back at work but Buck was not with them.)
Carla, bless her, retorts that that is not what she was asking - obviously she meant, she was worried about the sniper, but that is not Buck’s main worry, his head and his heart are somewhere else.
The crane scene was insane! I laughed when Chimney looked to Bobby and asked him “Can you blame him cap?” and Bobby flat out responded “Yeah!” 😂
The rescue was really impressive. However if Eddie ever found out about this he would probably hit Buck over the head with something heavy. It just goes to show that Eddie is Buck’s impulse control and vice-versa.
Bobby and Buck’s interaction wasn’t one of anger, Bobby was terrified and Buck was guilty but unapologetic, because he couldn’t protect Eddie but he could protect the rest of his family, so he did just that. Bobby didn’t have anything to say other than give him the same response Eddie did in Monsters - “Don’t do it again.” - Because for one, in my opinion, Bobby knows where Buck is coming from and also Bobby knows, he knows Eddie is Buck’s impulse control, knows he’s his anchor, he knows that Buck will only be his relatively normal self when Eddie comes back.
I’m not even going to touch the Taylor scene, yes she was worried, and yes she scolded him in a friendly way, but that kiss felt so out of left field for me, especially since Buck was just packing a bag to go stay with Christopher and Eddie was still unconscious at the hospital.
Also she freaking friendzoned him last episode, how fickle do male writers think women are? She gets a little scared and kisses the guy? Lucky they didn’t write in a sex scene! That was an insult to women everywhere in my opinion. It could have been set in so many better opportunities, why now? And if she’s scared now what’s to say that won’t make her leave like Ali did? I have a whole tirade about it but I will let it go for now.
Now I know ya’ll are like - Eddie woke up because his spidey senses told him someone was kissing his Buck (and I do not negate that point lol), but he just woke up and he asked for Buck. I find it so deliriously endearing that I need a moment even as I’m writing this.🤗🤗
I have to point out that there is no scene of Buck, Eddie and she who will not be name together other than the second when Buck walks in (read ran through the hospital corridors) and Eddie has only eyes for his partner. 👀❤
Afterwards it just the two of them, with a brief facetime to Christopher. I love that Eddie thanks Buck for staying with Chris, and Buck pretty much breaks down the logic behind the decision, like a true parent. - Christopher’s comfort came first in Buck’s eyes, and really that just demanded a hug right there.
“Is he doing ok?”
Buck’s response here, was very honest, a lot more honest than I expected, “better than me.” He said. Buck openly admits to Eddie, “I kinda lost it when I told him you got shot. I’m sorry I should have held it together.” To be honest, I’m very curious as to the ins and outs of Buck and Eddie’s friendship, especially during quarantine, they seem so much closer, a lot more open. More honest than you'd expect two male, straight, lead characters to be with their friends.
Buck would have played it down and shared only the essentials when it’s anybody else. With Eddie he openly saying here, in his own way, ‘I was terrified, and heartbroken, and ‘couldn’t imagine my world without you.’ - ‘I couldn’t function with a clear head.’ - ‘all my masks were shattered.’
“You were there for him when I couldn’t be, that’s what matters.” Eddie knows, buck, he understands him better than anyone, he’s telling him here in his own way that it’s okay, and he loves him just the way he is - it was his way to reassure Buck that he was doing just fine.
But Buck’s “Still I think it might have been better for him if I was the one who got shot.” - Eddie looked like he was ready to get up and smack some sense into Buck.
I want to point out that Buck’s response to Eddie being hurt or in danger is nowhere near the same as his response to anyone else in danger. Case in point in 4x14 is Bobby, he is inside, probably injured, in a fire with a gunman - if it was Eddie, Buck would have waited 0.1 seconds before he disappeared back into the flames to help Eddie.
With Bobby, he was calm, cool, calculated, he knew what Athena would do because that’s exactly what he would have done if it had been Eddie and he is ready with helpful details and a plan. He wants to go with her, but doesn’t argue when she says no.
Eddie is Buck’s Bobby, and it reflects all throughout this episode, and I think I had some parallels pointed out in 4x13 too. So I don’t know what scripts Tim reads or if we’re all watching the same show but buddie exists and thriving as far as I’m concerned.
Buck is also the one to pick Eddie up at the hospital - he tells him that the nurse is getting his meds and discharge papers ready, which means that Buck did all that process, he was busy getting Eddie discharged. (Take a moment to soak it in.)😌
Eddie sits Buck down to talk, to be honest this talk went pretty much the way I expected it.
Eddie explains why he had his will updated, and that Buck is Christopher’s legal guardian if anything happens to Eddie. - I love that after all this time, sweet Buck is still surprised.
He asks if Eddie didn’t need his consent for this and Eddie’s reply is: “My attorney said you could refuse.”
I also love, that even shell-shocked, Buck knows that Eddie knows him “You know I wouldn’t.”
And Eddie assures him that he does in fact know Buck, and he knows that Buck loves Christopher as much as Eddie does “I know you wouldn’t.”
(”I had to do it.” - “Yeah, I know you did.” this was a call back to 4x05 where Eddie understood why Buck did what he did. And knowing what we know now, I can assume that even though Eddie understood and forgave Buck, he didn’t have to like it.)
“No one will ever fight for my son as hard as you.” - call back to 3x03 anyone?
“There’s no one I trust with my son more than you.” - and Eddie proves it time and again.
And here he is basically giving Buck permission to give hell to his parents or anyone who tries to take Christopher away from His Buck. - And I love it!! 🤗❤
Buck, smart, handsome guy that he is, asks the right question again - “Why are you just telling me now?”
“Because Evan.” That first name that even took Buck by surprise, because Eddie only ever called him Buck, to our knowledge anyway. - Eddie was talking to Evan Buckley, not Buck, and yes they are two separate entities living inside one hunky firefighter. - This is Eddie saying, I know you’re frayed around the edges, I know I’m asking for a lot right now but I need you to hear me.
“You came in here the other day and you said it would have been better if you who were the one who was shot,” and I think for Eddie, who was lying on that firetruck floor bleeding out, and his only concern was that Buck may have been hurt, that was the worst thing Buck could have said.
“you act like you’re expandable but you’re wrong.”
Eddie has been where Buck is at that moment, losing his wife, watching his best friend nearly die time and again. - Really at this point Eddie just wants him safe, and if telling him about Christopher is what will do the trick, then he is not above playing dirty.
Eddie is telling Buck, you are my partner, you are Christopher's second parent, I love you, Christopher loves you, I don’t know what I’d do without you. - Because Eddie has been without Buck before and he was completely lost. - And that’s before they became even more intertwined as they are now.
I love the second before Buck and Eddie enter, Eddie’s house, before Buck opens the door, Eddie looks like he’s steeling himself to get in and Buck has a knowing grin on his face, somewhere between ‘ready?’ and ‘they’re happy you’re back be nice.’ 👀😂
I hated the jump forward, but everyone standing on the roof looking good and Eddie with those sunglasses? wow!! 🥵🤩
This was an all out buddie episode, and I was totally there for it!! I really hope for many more, because these two give me life!!
