Me (sweating profusely, looking at probably 30 tabs of AO3): Uhm…Do fanfics count?

I have been reading about four books for a month now and haven’t finished them, yet I read approximately 50-100k words of fanfics every day. Am I weird or am I weird?

I'm not super into modern AUs, but every now and then I get a hankering for some hardened-tattoo-artist-with-ennui-meets-baby-gay-bookseller-who-still-has-dreams. You know, as you do. Also I've pretty much read everything else while getting over the plague, and I gotta say to people who will understand:

I love that super niche interest AUs exist. Just the IDEA of them. I love that someone took their specific career, passion, hobby, graduate research, diagnosis, and that one long strange trip down the Wikipedia rabbit hole, and came to the conclusion that what this meet-cute needs, in explicit detail, is a(n):

Urban mushroom hunter

Speech pathologist

I demand more screen time for characters like Ryukyu, Edgeshot, Best Jeanist and almost all secondary characters in general. I don't really like the central characters of the manga, so I want to see the identities of the secondary characters and villains revealed more than once every 100 chapters.
