“So YOU’RE the fellas that’s been messin’ with my Sweet-Pea… You know, Ever seen Firecracker Flowers in a garden before? They’re real pretty…How ‘bout I give ya Koopa-Goons the full bunch, huh?”
//Spoiler alert. She did not give them any flowers, pffft//
Whoop, I do apologize for my constant Daisy obsession. But this time I’m actually working on an SMBSS design character sheet for her, and other Nintendo girls. So, was testing stuff out!
Of course the Flower Princess would know how to handle all things flowers!
Now currently it’s a trying to also think about Daisy’s personality for this. Right now I’m sort of drawing some inspiration from Rogue from the X-Men animated series. Beautiful, not afraid to be pretty and all. But is definitely more tougher.
Probably unlike Peach who takes a more rational and reasoning approach. Daisy is a bit more blunt and speaks her mind.
In fact, I think it may be implied That King Koopa has only attempted to kidnap her once, but NEVER again. A running gag is whenever Daisy is mentioned, it’s clear that he dislikes her on the same level as he does with Mario. He had never attempted to make her his Bride. But the moment she shows up, he instantly becomes Timid. Clearly traumatized.
The extent of her Damage of what she did to his force, no one knows. But it’s enough of a secret King Koopa is so greatly embarrassed about, he refuses to let see the light of day.
Daisy will never let that die down. But King Koopa will literally trip over his own feet just to prevent her from even opening her mouth.
The closest thing you’ll ever get to know, is that she “Smacked him into next week!”

Chapter 6
The atmosphere was quickly illuminated by red, white and blue hues as the now-new crime scene unfolded in front and inside of your house.
“Jesus, (Y/n), what happened?” Tatum sprinted to your side, maneuvering under the caution tape and into your living room.
You sighed, rubbing your temples in slow-soothing circles, stress appearing in dark patches under your eyes.
“He was here…” You whispered, traumatized as the image of Steve’s heart flickered in your memories.
“Tatum, you shouldn’t be here. This is official police business, now.” Dewey scolded his younger sister, walking up beside her.
“Ugh, as if…” She rolled her eyes, “She’s staying with Sidney and I tonight. I was coming to pick her up…”
“That was still happening… even after the fight Sidney and I had?” You looked up at Tatum, momentarily forgetting about all the fuss that was going on around you.
“Yep, it’s a good thing too.” Tatum chuckled, sitting next to you. “I don’t care what happened between you and Sid earlier, you were my friend first and I’ll be damned if I let a bitch-fit between the two of you get in the way.” She nudged your shoulder, playfully. You smiled, but it quickly faded, hearing the staticky-voice over Dewey’s walkie-talkie.
“Dewey, you might want to come see this.” Sheriff Burke spoke, concern coaxing his words.
Your stomach twisted in all sorts of directions, squeezing tightly at the acid that was forming in it, causing it to travel up to your esophagus. You were ready to vomit, but you swallowed it, fighting the feeling, not wanting to go anywhere by yourself.
You wondered what Sheriff Burke meant.
“Right away, Sir.” Dewey spoke into his device, walking into the direction of where his boss was.
“So, what exactly happened, ( N/n)?”
“I got a phone call, then it quickly escalated from there…” You placed your hands over your face, futilely attempting to suffocate yourself with the pressure. “I thought nothing of it at first, but I-I was already getting the heebie-jeebies from the call, but he sounded genuine, so I ignored the feeling and kept talking to him…” You brought your hands to your lap, looking at Tatum, “Then the ph-phone went silent and at that exact moment, my doorbell r-rang…” You stumbled your sentence, struggling to find the proper words to continue explaining. “I was hesitant, so I peeped through the eyehole, trying to see if anyone was lurking about, but there was no one.” You sighed, “I decided I’d open the door, and you know, maybe get a better look, again, there was no one.” A tear rolled down your cheek.
“Hey, hey, it’s okay, take it easy..” Tatum tried to comfort you and brought you into a hug, you were quick to wrap your arms around her, squeezing her, as you whimpered.
“Th-There was this box, and I didn’t think twice before I brought it into my home… oh, god.” You sobbed, “His heart was in it, Tatum, his fuckin’ heart!” Your voice broke.
“Hold on, whose heart?” She asked, baffled by what she was hearing.
“Steve’s.” You let out a quiet mewl, hugging Tatum tighter.
“How do you know?”
“Because he said it in the note and I-I believe it.” You sobbed yet again, “That’s not e-even the worst part…”
As bad as that may sound, it was true, the heart in the box wasn’t your main concern, but the fact that he was watching you, that he admitted it over the note that he had sloppily written, that he stated it over the phone; he was there, he could have been in your house the entire time, waiting for a moment to strike.
You could have been his next victim, the next book Gale Weathers would’ve written about. However, what’s even more concerning is that you thought it was sweet that he’d given you one of your biggest heartbreaks in a box. Pun intended.
The killer gave you Steve Orth’s heart; the guy that gave you both hell and pure bliss behind closed doors. The guy who seen you at your most vulnerable, the one who continued to defile you even when he was in a relationship.
You had his heart, officially. That’s all you ever wanted, but that was months ago.
This was karma doing what she did best, revenge…
Did the killer know about the affair? The humiliation? Did he kill Steve just for you? No, he couldn’t have, but did he? Was he someone you knew? Probably not, but he could be. You’ll never know and it’s eating you up inside. Why make a grand gesture and not show who he is, or even give you a subtle hint of who it may be.
As much as it scared you, it also humbled you. It was romantic, but completely unnecessary, yet, you wanted to thank him. Thank the stranger; the killer, for doing God’s dirty work, or in this case, Karma’s.
What is wrong with you? For fuck’s sake, he killed two people, and probably will kill again. Why would you want to thank him for that, are you that depraved? Maybe.
“Earth to (Y/n)?” Tatum snapped her fingers in front of your face, startling you from the never ending thoughts that corroded your mind.
“S-Sorry, what?” You stuttered, wiping a single tear from your cheek.
“I thought I lost you there for a moment, Hun. Dewey wants to speak with you…” She smiled, lightly, nodding towards her brother who appeared out of nowhere.
“Okay.. yeah, y-yeah, for sure..” Your voice was barely above a whisper.
You pushed yourself off the couch, making your way to the kitchen with Dewey.
“We’re sending the heart and the box away for DNA testing to see if it actually is Steve’s heart, alright?” Dewey explained, “We also want to take the note…” He stopped, turning around, picking up some other object, “And this to see if the suspect had left any fingerprints.” He showed it to you, and you paled, but the colour soon came back to your face as you felt yourself blush.
You were met with a paper-white face with two hollowed eyes and a gaping mouth, it was a mask, a mask that looked utterly horrifying, yet, disturbingly attractive at the same time.
Was it wrong that you were starting to get wet from the sheer thought of a possible tall and muscular man killing for you, wearing this mask?
Probably, but you didn’t care.
You squeezed your thighs together, putting pressure on your heat, trying to not let it slide that the mask was getting you off.
“We found this outside in the bushes by your house.” Dewey said, “Have you seen it before?”
You shook your head, biting your lip, you’ve never seen that before in your life, you’d be sure to remember it if you did. Though, now that you did see it, it wasn’t going to leave your mind, especially with how it was making you feel.
‘It almost looks like a Ghost Fac—‘ You cut yourself off mid thought.
“G.F…” You mumbled at no one in particular, “That’s what it stands for, Ghost Face, the killer dubbed himself as Ghost Face…”

In light of JJK 239, I am once again obsessing over Kenjaku and Yuuji—not that I ever really stopped.
What I want out of Sukuna vs. Yuuji is for Yuuji to tear a motherfucker apart, but with Kenjaku and Yuuji, I’m desperate for a conversation. Not in the sense of some wildly jarring parent–son heart-to-heart, but a clash of ideals in verbal form, like what we got out of the Mahito–Yuuji interactions.
Yuuji, probably because of some blend of how he was raised with no knowledge of jujutsu and just who he is as a person, clearly views cursed energy as a means to an end. He wants to help people, and jujutsu helps him do that. Even prior to his cog mentality (and I’d love to see how that has changed or evolved, if it has, after Sukuna left his body), he seems to view what he can do with cursed energy as an extension of what he can do with his body. He’s good at it, he’s proud of it, and he has a truly impressive growth rate, but his talents are innate and his skills develop organically; I don’t get the impression that he views jujutsu itself as something to explore for its own sake. Essentially, he’s someone who’ll get stronger for the sake of the results, not the methods.
And then you have Kenjaku:
Tumblr media
Yuuji might have inherited his insane adaptability from his mum (though an argument can be made for Itadori “Yeah That’s My Dead Wife, What Of It” Jin too), but he sure as shit doesn’t have their scientific curiosity. I think Kenjaku’s line of thinking—more specifically, its consequences—would strike Yuuji as frankly perverse.
I don’t have nearly enough of a handle on Kenjaku’s character to predict how they’d react, or even the extent and nature of their current interest in Yuuji, but some of my favorite panels from the Shibuya arc are the Kenjaku–Yuuji fight scenes, where Kenjaku kind of just…talks at Yuuji, like they’re giving him a fun educational lecture while actively traumatizing him.
I’d sacrifice a few body parts—not mine, but semantics—to see another encounter like that between these two, featuring their wildly different attitudes toward humanity as a whole.

VTM character concepts that I am compelled to share as they have completely taken over my brain: Part 2, Electric Boogaloo!
So since my last VTM character concept post BLEW UP and my brain is once again back on its bullshit, here are some more ideas! As usual, feel free to use these to your heart’s content! I’d love to hear about your characters too, so feel free to message me about them! Now, on to the main event:
1. A Malkavian researcher obsessed with statistics who hunts down “statistical outliers” in order to make sure their data is “pure and untampered with.”
2. A Ventrue who has created an up and coming adult toy empire (pun fully intended). They currently are in the midst of a fierce battle with the local Setites over who can cash in on the pleasure business the most.
3. A Brujah who was a successful athlete pre-embrace. Unable to participate in their sport and driven by extreme bitterness and jealousy, they now strive to turn the public against this particular as a whole by ghouling athletes and ordering them to discover, leak, and in some cases create, scandals. All the while, they rage against the sport they once loved under the thin disguise of false activism.
4. A dance instructor and head of a renowned academy known for producing performers who constantly seem to be breaking the limits of what the human body can do, much to the delight of audiences. What these audiences (and many newer students) don’t know is that this instructor is a Tzimisce and the performers have been carefully tweaked and trained during “private lessons” using a combination of Dominate and Vicissitude. Additionally, the Tzimisce is in search of a prospective childe worthy of being their dance partner, and has been carefully monitoring select students.
5. A Gangrel cryptozoologist who aims to be able to eventually master Protean to the point where they can turn into mythical beasts.
6. A Gangrel veterinarian who was embraced after attempting to transport what they thought was an injured dog to their hospital, only for it to have actually been their hurt and very annoyed future sire.
7. A fledgling Baali abandoned after their embrace who thinks they are just some weird Caitiff.
8. A Banu Haqim who was traumatized after they were almost diablerized by a Sabbat vamp. Thoroughly disgusted by the practice, they now hunt diablerists, all the while attempting to ignore the cravings and habits of their bloodline.
9. A Hecata “fixer” who makes their living by disposing of bodies, whether turning them to ashes through the use of Oblivion or by adding them to their collection of undead servants.
I’m a little tired, so these are all I have for now, though I plan on dreaming up some more. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these!

So Derision Broke Me…
Derision (Miraculous S5E14) made some choices that fundamentally broke Marinette’s character for me to the point where I’m having trouble motivating myself to keep writing for this fandom. I figured I’d write down my thoughts and see if that helped me get into a headspace where I can ignore this episode like I do any other writing choices I’m not fond of. If anyone has some words of wisdom, I'd love to hear them.
In Derision, we learn that Marinette has some serious trauma surrounding love. When she was 13, she confessed her love to Kim and was rewarded with a box full of spiders. This “prank” understandably left her traumatized and shaken to her core. In response to that trauma, she vowed to never confess her love to another boy. Not unless she knew everything about him.
This “prank” and several others are revealed to be the fault of Chloé. As for why she’s doing this, well, we’re never given a reason why Marinette is the target. However, we are told the motivation for Chloé’s actions. Rose blames them on the fact that Chloé was abandoned by her mother. Mylène responds to this observation by pointing out that she was also abandoned by her mother, but that didn’t turn her into a bully! Which is a fair point. People react differently to trauma and trauma doesn’t justify bad behavior or undo the effects of those bad behaviors. At the most, trauma explains why the behavior is happening. A lesson that Miraculous has given us before.
In the character Félix’s titular episode, Félix shows up and starts treating Adrien poorly. This leads to this exchange between Adrien and Plagg:
Plagg: What's up with that cousin of yours? First, he searches through your things, and then, the most unforgivable thing of all, he squashes my hunk of goat's cheese under your pillow! I'd been maturing that baby for two weeks! Do you realize? Two whole weeks! Adrien: Listen, Plagg. Félix lost his dad not so long ago, he's probably not himself. Plagg: I'm sorry, but there's just no excuse! You never touch my cheese, and yet, you just lost your mother not so long ago, right?
And, once again, this is a fair observation! The fact that Félix’s father died does not justify Felix trying to ruin Adrien’s life. All it does is explain his motivation.
Trauma does not excuse hurting others. When trauma has negative effects on us, it’s up to us to work through those feelings either on our own or, ideally, with the help of loved ones and therapists. We are never justified in lashing out at innocents who had nothing to do with our trauma.
This brings us to the topic of Marinette.
The fact that Marinette has trauma around romance does not justify her treatment of Adrien. Breaking into his home, trying to sabotage his relationship with Kagami, and all of her other obsessive behaviors are not okay just because she was traumatized by Kim. If Chloe and Felix are not excused by their trauma, then neither is she.
So why am I only bothered by this now?
Because, before this episode, Marinette’s behavior was very clearly a joke. It was, in my opinion, a bad joke, but it was a joke and, when it comes to writing, jokes have to be looked at differently than things that are played straight.
Miraculous relies heavily on absurdist humor. That’s why you’ve got an episode where Adrien and his teenage friends throw an unchaperoned party attended by a bunch of random adults. A thing that would be horrifying and upsetting in reality, but is fine in the show because it’s clearly played as being ridiculous and over the top. I mean, just look at this scene. Anyone taking this seriously has clearly lost the plot.
Tumblr media
Marinette’s obsession fell under the same category. Something that would be very wrong in reality, but was obviously being played up for laughs. I was always under the impression that, without the absurdist humor, she’d be significantly toned down and that’s why I just sort of tolerated it in the show. Not my idea of a good joke, but clearly a joke so meh. I can overlook it while watching the show and, when writing her, I can be true to her character while not including this level of obsession because I don’t write crack fic.
Derision changed that. It took 4.5 seasons of questionable jokes and tried to justify them. And that? That is a terrible idea. Because there is no justification for Marinette’s behavior just like there is no justification for Chloe’s behavior in the exact same episode. What they’re doing is wrong and, at best, their trauma explains their behavior. It does not justify it.
Plus, hey, remember how Derision said Kim was a terrible person for laughing at Marinette’s trauma? Isn’t that the exact same thing that we’ve all unknowingly been doing for 4.5 seasons? Kinda makes it hard to rewatch old episodes where her crush was played for laughs, doesn’t it? I hope you’ve never laughed over Marinette’s behavior because, if you have, you’ve been making fun of her trauma and so have the writers.
And that sums up why this episode really bothers me. I either have to ignore a character’s trauma or I have to accept that her trauma has apparently made her unhinged and address it. Because if her behavior is not a bad joke, then the salters are right and Marinette is a total creep. I’m trying my hardest to choose option one, but I’m struggling.
It’s not that Marinette is the only character with questionable behavior. Adrien as Chat Noir is often written as overly persistent and obnoxious when it comes to his crush. It’s not great behavior, but it’s not a consistent characterization nor is it a major flaw. I can fix it with a quick character arc about boundaries or ignore it and (in my head) say that arc happened off screen because I have no doubt that this sort of common teenage issue could be overcome with relative ease. Because when Chat Noir is put in a situation where he could clearly violate Ladybug’s boundaries? He doesn’t. He is, ultimately, respectful. He just needs to be told that respect is more than listening to the explicit “no”.
Deep-seated trauma that leads to stalking? That’s not a minor flaw. It’s a major issue that reveals the need for psychological intervention. I’m not gonna give that to a teenager and fix it with the power of friendship and communication. Nor will I give the stalker her prize. I’m gonna keep him safe because, if Marinette has this level of romance-based trauma, then she is not mentally well enough to be a relationship with someone.
You see, I’ve had people with obsessive crushes who violated my boundaries. A loved one of mine had to get the police involved because of someone’s crush on them. Stalking and obsessive behavior is not a joke. It’s traumatizing, but even though I have that trauma, Miraculous never bothered me because of how the stalking was played as a joke.
Joke's over, though. As of Derision, we are supposed to take Marinette's behavior at face value.
So, yeah. I don’t know where I go from here. It’s been a week and I just have no desire to ever touch Marinette again. If anyone has some words of advice, I’d love to hear them. And I’m sorry, but it may be a while before anything of mine updates.

Hello and good day. I hope that this isn't too much to ask, but what are your thoughts about Adam? It has always been my belief that Adam and Yang are mirrors to each other. Well, Adam has a lot of things to connect with Team RWBY, moreso with Yang, I think. Just wanted to hear your thoughts about Adam, I guess. Thank you.
i rattle him around in my brain from time to time. a lunar eclipse. he and yang are absolutely character foils; power vs strength, cruelty vs compassion, spite vs love, revenge vs justice. he refuses to control his temper, yang is defined by her meticulous control over her anger. moonslice and burn are almost the exact same semblance, even. a dark mirror.
he’s also doing… something… thematically salient to summer rose. which is what i’m picking over in that linked post. i’m not sure what it is yet but the setup is pretty evident.
tbh i think the narrative is far more sympathetic to him than most of the fandom cares to admit. the triumph and vindication burns bright when adam realizes he’s lost in V5 and runs away—that’s the moment where the narrative framing is like “fuck yeah, the bastard got what he deserved.” but when he dies? there’s just exhaustion, pain, and relief that yang and blake survived. it’s not played as a proud or happy moment. it just sucks so much that they had to go through this ordeal and it’s pitiable that he chose to waste his life on this. blake breaks down crying and all she and yang can do for a moment is cling to each other.
like. -> “there’s no cause to celebrate/another soul consumed by hate and spite/another destroyed life/there’s no pleasure, there’s no joy/it’s just the story of a boy who lost his way/into shadows strayed/he’ll see the light of day/nevermore”
he chose over and over and over again to be cruel, letting his anger rule him. chose to be vindictive, chose to pursue vengeance over justice. chose to hurt people. every time he was offered an out, he refused to take it and brutally punished the people who gave him second chances. sienna, blake, yang. in the end, he left blake and yang with no other choice but to kill him before he killed them. but… the narrative still mourns the person he could have been, if he’d made better choices, if the world had been kinder to him.
there is no question that blake and yang made the right call. they did everything they possibly could to avoid killing him, and they had every right to defend themselves when he refused to stop.
BUT,
it’s sad that they were forced to do that. it still weighs on blake’s conscience as a terrible ordeal and a choice she never wants to have to make again. because killing another person—no matter the circumstances—is horribly traumatizing. and that’s why the narrative refuses to frame his death as a triumphant moment. (the same thing happens with jacques’ murder in V8: it’s sudden and shocking and unjust and there is zero satisfaction in watching him die. and it’s terribly unfair to weiss, who specifically chose not to leave him to die. rwby is a story where every life matters and every death is sad.)
great character. the final battle between him and blake/yang is done really well and one of my favorite fights in the show mostly bc it brings the foiling between him and yang into really sharp focus. “what does she even see in you?” is such a raw fucking line because the things blake sees in yang are exactly the things she once saw in adam: he’s so consumed by his obsession his vengeance his spiteful rage, he’s strayed so far from the person he was that he can’t even recognize her when she’s staring him in the face.
i do think that when adam was 16-17 at the very start of his character short, he was genuinely a lot like yang. angrier and more aggressive, because his mentor encouraged him to be that way, but i think his ideals were true and his commitment to the cause of his people was genuine.
he was only a kid the first time he killed someone—sixteen, seventeen, about the right age to be enrolling in one of the huntsmen academies. and i truly do not think he meant to kill that man; he saw a dangerous person running towards his already-wounded leader with a gun and reacted. and this?
Tumblr media
this is a lot.
no matter the circumstances, killing another person is traumatizing. after this happens, adam slowly straightens up and sheathes his weapon, then just stands there frozen, staring at the body, until the other assailants make noise and he startles. his face falls when ghira says “that wasn’t necessary.” he’s slow to turn around, but he does, and he listens quietly to what ghira has to say to him. he didn’t mean to. he can’t be older than seventeen. he is in shock—he doesn’t know how to react, how to feel, and like any teenager would, he looks to trusted adults for guidance. (much like yang looks to ironwood and qrow after she hurts someone by mistake.) ghira starts to scold him (not ideal), but sienna cuts him off and calls adam a hero, and then everybody starts to fucking cheer; “that was amazing!!”
this moment, while adam was reeling and unsure, this is when adam desperately needed to hear from an adult in the middle. ghira is right that using lethal force wasn’t necessary; sienna is also right that adam likely saved ghira’s life by taking action. what adam really needed to hear was “you were right to take action, but this man was not such a grave threat that he needed to die. why did you react the way you did?”—not to be scolded or lionized, but to be treated like a teenager who made a bad choice for a good reason and given support and understanding so that next time, he would know what to do better.
instead he got swamped with praise and the came away from this experience having learned that Killing Humans is Cool and Awesome and Heroic, Actually.
(i have a secondary thought here that the white fang’s fatal weakness—under both ghira and sienna—is treating children like adults. if adam had been an adult when this happened, he wouldn’t have been so dependent on his mentor and his leader to guide his reaction and an adult would be better equipped to hold “that wasn’t necessary” and “he saved your life” as non-contradictory ideas. similarly, ghira and kali respecting blake’s decision to stay with the now expressly militant white fang when they left sounds great until you remember that she was twelve years old at the time and then they didn’t contact her in any way for the next five years. it is… probably not a coincidence that adam’s splinter group skews young.
not that teens can’t be good activists but good activism does require pragmatism and emotional maturity and an understanding of nuance, and if you throw a teenager into a high-stress organization where they’re involved in often-violent direct action and give them zero guidance beyond “here’s how to fight!” because they’re assumed to have adult-level maturity and critical reasoning, then… yeah, you’re going to end up with an extremism problem. the kids are not going to just magically know the difference between tactical violence and violent revenge.)
anyway, i really like his character short. i think the narrative is very sympathetic to the boy he used to be and the thread of sienna inadvertently enabling and reinforcing his violent tendencies is interesting. my sense is that in the beginning she sort of used adam to score a point against ghira in their clash of opinions over the direction of the white fang, and later made a habit of being overly indulgent with him and turning a blind eye to his excessive violence—like.
during the fight in the SDC building, sienna rips through the AKs just as ruthlessly as he does, but once the human security personnel arrive, her tactics immediately change. she uses her whip to snag a man’s gun and yank it out of his hands, flicks bullets away, disarms, trips, disarms, trips, disarms, trips. the only time she uses the bladed dart, it’s to disable her opponent’s weapon. meanwhile adam is hacking and slashing behind her. she stops him when he moves to kill an man who’s disarmed and on the ground. faced with living opponents, sienna holds back and fights strictly to disarm. adam is not like that, and she knows it and presumably doesn’t approve—she doesn’t kill anyone herself, and intervenes to stop him from killing—but it’s also clear that there were never like. Consequences. she never took him to task for crossing these lines. as his leader she had a responsibility to do so, but she kept letting it slide until it was too late.
(tbh i think the biggest disappointment i feel regarding her death is well never find out why she cut adam so much slack. did she want to believe he was better than that? had she known him for so long that her memories of what he was like as a teenager blinded her to the adult he was becoming? was it that she found him too useful or realized he was too popular to chastise, finding herself in the same trap she once sprung on ghira? did she, like blake, convince herself it was just “accidents” or “getting carried away” and ignore the warning signs that it was a deliberate pattern? was she like the albains, fully aware that he was dangerous and unstable but confident that she could control him? there’s so many possible reasons she might have had and i think it’s unfortunate that her motives and her side of the relationship didn’t get explored at all.)
also this is stupid and doesn’t matter really but he’s not a fucking bull 😭 those are goat horns. he’s a goat. A GOAT!!

guys I just want you to know that azula is my fav atla character (right above katara/toph/suki can you tell I like girls) but I’m actually going insane about mako right now.
also for the like,, five people who liked my last mako post please please please go look at @/jade-of-mourning’s blog. they’re so cool. they make such super awesome mako posts and his writing is really good and she also posts some stuff on ao3 so like. yeah. I’m obsessed with them.
anyway back to losing my mind over mako,, (a LOT more under the cut)
so okay I’ll admit I’m not typically a fan of angsty male characters (zuko is the exception. he’s too funny to not, and his character and development are really well done) because they all feel like copy-pastes of each other and they’re generally uninteresting.
but mako. mako is the female experience. not sure if I reposted it (as I tend to do with,, everything on here) but I saw a post talking about how what happened to mako’s character (all potential being discarded after romantic plot) is what happens to the vast majority of female characters. and as I’ve probably said at least fifty million times, he’s SO eldest daughter coded. I’m trans (they/he) but I grew up an eldest daughter and he’s like?? literally me??
as I was yapping about in a reblog—I just checked (lol) and it was in fact the post about mako having the female love interest treatment and tags about his eldest daughter syndrome—mako is somewhat made more ‘relatable’ than katara even when sending a similar message for the general audience. I think people should just be less brickheaded and appreciate my wonderful waterbending girl but mako being a guy makes people not immediately put his character into the lens of ‘ugh, dumb feminism’. (which, again, should not happen)
okay so why does this redeem him so much? I said I hate copy-paste angsty backstories meant to exacerbate a character’s edgy mysteriousness and mako is literally batman with a more violent aang for a little brother. he was basically the messiest character on the show, cheated on both his gfs with each other and fucked them up so bad they turned gay for each other (which was funny as hell of the writers by the way. his reaction to them coming out in the comics was GOLD. ik my boy was fighting back tears.) so, logically, I should hate him like 90% of the fandom, right?
well obviously 90% of the fandom HAS NOT WATCHED THE FUCKING SHOW is MISOGYNISTIC or HATES CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
I have. so much to say about this.
for one. did we watch the same show. mako is one of the most selfless, hardworking, and considerate characters, which he shows multiple times—it’s a major point of his character, actually. he’s the protector, the nurturer (*cough* the eldest daughter). down to his backstory, he shielded bolin from the worst bits of the underworld as best he could while still providing. from eight years old, all alone, he provided. that’s honestly what sets mako apart from literally being Batman (lmao) and why I don’t actually mind his backstory. he was put in an impossible situation, and told to figure it out. he was given no reprieve from the extremely traumatic event of watching his parents die by the element he wields, the one that he has to learn on his own to use to protect bolin.
the other thing is that a lot of his actions are selfish in a way. he doesn’t really care much about the street rats in the same position he was once in the beginning. but even that selfishness isn’t in his own interest—it’s selfishness for the sake of bolin’s well being. one thing that really hits me hard is the brothers’ relationships with food while on the streets. I’m going to make another post about that soon because I don’t want to ramble too endlessly on here. it’s really personal because. eldest daughter who grew up poor. yeah.
second, fandom misogyny. this makes like. no sense but I swear I know what I’m talking about. okay so misogyny is about gender right? but let’s step away from the cutout copy idea of gender, like genitals or fem/masc presentation or pronouns. think of gender as a set of inherent preconceptions, ideals, or societal expectations. that’s what it is but specifying that makes more sense. mako is a dude who is referred to with he/him and he looks like a guy but he represents a girl. mako is expected to be nurturing but not overbearing. present but not annoying. a provider, but don’t ask for anything in return. mako can’t cry in front of bolin, it’s not right for a little boy to look up to someone fragile. mako needs to work, but tiredness is not allowed. don’t be overly cheerful, it’s annoying and unfitting, but too much gruffness is just haughty.
did you feel like you were reading the transcript for that scene about how hard it is to be a woman in the barbie movie? good, because that was the intention. mako, to me, represents the idea of a sibling who is forced to also be a parent, whether or not they are the eldest, and often a girl to a boy. it could be because parents are absent or dead or bad at parenting or just foolish and inattentive. mako is hated (aside from that messy ass romance plot) for almost all the same reasons as katara and that just. infuriates me. like I have this one perfect representation that reminds me of my own background (sorry katara ily and you represent my rage) while aligning with my identity and everyone is shitting on it?? fuck mako haters he’s my special boy
last point. have you never heard of character development in your lives. did you not all love Zuko’s redemption arc, and then as soon as a dumb teenager who’s never had romantic relationships fucks up JUST AS BAD AS THE OTHER TWO PEOPLE INVOLVED (sorry korrasami ily but y’all were nasty for not asking to kiss mako) you’re all like ‘unforgivable’?? like he didn’t even have a redemption arc because HE WASNT AN EVIL CHARACTER. he was a poor kid looking for a sense of stability and he fucked up. he felt bad. I don’t think any of them apologized, despite the fact one was needed all around. he grew as a character because he let himself find stability and mature before seeking someone new to use as a life raft who was already sinking themselves. I truly believe that korrasami—had it not occurred at the end of the series—wouldn’t have worked out either.
all of them were unstable and lost and scared for their lives almost constantly. that’s not a healthy place to be in to seek a relationship and they none of them were good for each other until they gave themselves time to step away from romance and heal.
anyway stan mako to not be a bigot (im unwell about him)

💖 for MCU please
Name: Violet
Sexuality: lesbian
Hobbies: reading (fics mostly) and crafts - I absolutely love making beaded jewellery. Oh and I collect stickers; I have a sticker wall in my bedroom.
Introvert
In a friendship, I’m the mom friend, I always take care of my bestie. I love cute little pet names (I’m quite fond of bubble and pumpkin.) I push my friends to take care of themselves and I like to think they can always count on me. My love language is basically sending my friends tiktoks and memes I think they’ll like.
My favourite marvel characters are Loki and the Winter soldier - I enjoy morally grey characters. I’m obsessed with Florence Pugh and Gillian Anderson!! My style is very feminine and eclectic. I like wearing flower patterns. I’m allergic to dogs but I have a hypoallergenic dog called Minnie (short for minerva - I’m a Harry Potter fan as well as marvel) and I love her more than the whole world. My favourite food is pumpkin pasta, I love anything pumpkin and I’m a great cook.
at first i had a hard time figuring out who you would pair well with, violet, but then it hit my like a train - the answer was so clear in my head - nebula!
if there's any case of opposites attract in exsistence, it would be the two of you. as we know, nebula is gruff, definitely morally gray, not paticularly chatty, but most of all traumatized. she doesn't like to let people into her life and when people try to pry into her psyche and try to help, she usually lashes back at them. but with you, it's different.
nebula is used to ignoring her personal health and wellness to either help others or complete their own personal goals (thanos, ronan, quill). having someone who was helping her, not because they were annoyed by her behavior or just wanted her to be less of herself, would mean a lot to her. after years of not looking out for herself, it would be a nice change to have someone who really cares about her like you would. i think you would also be able to introduce her to a different perspective. you seem like someone who knows who they are, and she would greatly appreciate that seeing as she's never gotten a chance to understand herself. you would think that she would hate your stickers and jewelry and crafts, but secretly, she adores them (would probably steal a bracelet of yours, here and there, when she can). she would also probably not accept food from others, but perhaps at the smell of your cooking, she'd walk over and grab a bite.
i see you as a member of the guardians - how you joined, i've no clue, you can leave that up to yourself. you're probably close with mantis and drax, and while you enjoy spending time with your friends, you also like to spend time alone. nebula likes to watch you while you craft and when you cook - she probably has the biggest crush on you and for a while, i don't think she'd even realize it. but once she does, she becomes very overprotective, almost toxically territorial. one time you find her sitting in the hanger by herself, so you sit down with her. it's "night" (although there's not really night in space) and everyone else is asleep. you expected her to sit there with you in peaceful silence but she actually opens up to you. about her past, about how she thinks of herself - she asks you how you find happiness? she'd be inspired by whatever answer you'd give - and after that night, slowly, she would gain the confidence to join you in your hobbies. she would wear any bracelets you give to her and taste test new recipes you would try (warning: she's brutally honest, however, she tries her best to be softer with you). she smiles with you, she laughs with you. one night, you're sitting in the hangar yet again when she asks you, "have you ever felt love? real love?" because she's not sure she's ever felt it. and it's as she's watching you answer she realizes that you were the one that made her feel true love and she would cut you off with a kiss.
around you, she is truly herself - almost unrecognizable. teasing, smiley, playful, soft. i think the two of you would bring out the best in each other <333
hope you enjoyed pookie 😚

3. describe the first time you watched/played/read your f/o’s source content.
4. who was your first favorite character when you initially got into your f/o’s source content? was it your f/o from the very beginning?
I'm gonna do this for Hunson since yeah AT is my big fixation at the moment fmskjd
3. Dude, watching Adventure Time for the first time in 2023 as someone who grew up in the early 2000s but was never allowed to watch it was kinda surreal. It felt nostalgic, but in a weird way because I had never actually watched it outside of catching a few episodes here and there. I've mentioned before my experience of seeing the first episode with Hunson in it on TV as a kid, and then promptly being traumatized. So. Honestly I’m convinced that’s one of the reasons I fell for him. Kinks and interests often come from things that freaked you out as a kid, and that is 110% true for me; it’s happened over and over again with various things for me so I suspect my fascination with such a random character probably came from that experience. Once I got to that episode in my watchthrough I was immediately very amused by the strangely specific things that freaked me out as a child. That episode really stood out to me because of my memories, plus it's genuinely one of the best of the early seasons in my opinion.
4. So I really went into AT expecting Finn to be my biggest crush. Though I crush on all kinds of character types, Finn is one that's a foolproof way to get me; innocent/naive, cute, heroic. Hell, my previous fixation before this was Hercules (from the Disney movie). It's practically a blueprint to getting me to obsess over your character. And of course I do love Finn, he's adorable and from the beginning I was like "ohhh yeah I'm not gonna be normal about him", but then when I got to Hunson's first episode, which is the opener to season 2, I lost my marbles with the aforementioned memories of seeing that as a kid and being scared by it. As ever, I tried to fight the fascination with my new fixation but once I got to season 4 and Return to The Nightosphere I knew I was screwed. I already thought he was hot, but now I knew he was also SILLY and that's impossible to fight

i watched insidious: the red door again with my sister, and it grew on me the second time around despite not knowing how to feel abt it initially.
At first i found the story was underdeveloped (and despite my opinions on the movie changing, i honestly still do feel this way lowkey ghgh) but like. i see exactly what they were trying to do, y’now???
i’ve always rlly enjoyed the insidious franchise, not necessarily because i found it scary, but because the concept of the further was absolutely FASCINATING to me. especially because it’s a place that’s like. an endless limbo that’s reminiscent of liminal horror (and i’m a sucker for that shit)
I rlly liked that they brought in more emotional depth & complexity for the lamberts and how they explore more of how the events of insidious: chapter 2 ultimately affected their family and each individual character.
I immensely enjoyed that they wanted to explore themes of generational trauma and repressed trauma, and how sweeping said trauma under the rug rather than trying to heal and resolve it at its root causes it to fester and ultimately harm everyone involved.
i like how they acknowledged how extremely traumatizing it must have been for renai and the kids to see parker crane josh trying to violently DESTROY them. like there ain’t no way that’s NOT going to have devastating effects on your psyche/marriage when you see what you think is your deranged looking father/husband, trying to beat y’all to death with hammers 😭😭 like i can’t imagine how that must have looked for the kids and i’m glad they explored that
i also really like how (at least in my opinion), the red faced demon and his lair is also kinda symbolic of dalton’s repressed & festering mental illness/trauma with how OBSESSED the demon is with dalton. and how he set up all those “scenes” of dalton’s past which makes him just. remember everything (and that made me feel SAUR BAD for him bc recalling that much repressed trauma would be overwhelming as fuck)
that said, i really feel like they could have executed these themes a lot better, in a way that would make a little bit more sense. during the scene with dalton and josh near the end where they’re in the further trying to close the door, dalton states that they have to stop running from the demon. and there i thought dalton and josh were going to slay the demon together once and for all, but dalton just paints over the door leaving josh in the further by himself and i was like ??????????? 😭😭😭😭 hello???
like. aside from it being a bit anticlimactic, i also don’t think it made very much sense of dalton to just paint over the door when he said they couldn’t run/ignore it anymore. i suppose in a sense, dalton painting over the door in of itself symbolizes that he is trying to break the cycle himself, but honestly? it would have made more sense imo if they somehow tried to relinquish the red face demon together, bc to me that would show that dalton and josh are finally trying to resolve their trauma together by tackling it head on, thus competing their arc more effectively.
i wish they could have introduced josh’s father a bit differently—i know the existence of josh’s dad probably wasnt planned from the beginning, so adding him in was going to be a bit clunky no matter what, but i had a hard time feeling anything at all for him as a character…..
i also wish elise had a bigger role in this rather than making a 5 second cameo at the end of the movie just for the the sake of it, especially since she is what makes insidious such an interesting franchise. but i am SO glad we got a specs and tucker cameo i genuinely teared up seeing them :,)
ANYWAY, overall, i’m quite pleased w the movie, even if certain aspects of it could have been executed better. it definitely isn’t THE BEST insidious movie. i think it had a lot of potential to be excellent. i have WAYY more thoughts abt it that i dont think i can convey in a single post but maybe i’ll talk abt them another time
also. dalton and chris my beloveds 🫰🏼🫰🏼

This is just a rant but idk if anyone will even see it so fuck it
It’s wild, aging out of the age regression community. Wasn’t something I thought would happen, but as soon as you’re an adult and do adult things, you’re suddenly barred from most of the community you grew up in. There’s a reason the age regression community is mostly minors and I do agree that the kink and agere communities should be kept separate for everyone’s safety. But it really sucks being caught in the crossfire, especially when the only people making fun little content are people that explicitly hate you. This is supposed to be a safe space but everywhere I turn there’s a reminder that I’m not wanted here, I’m too nasty and gross and adult but when I go try to find other adults there’s just,,, nothing. I aged out of the community at a time where there’s very little noncom content or activity and all the sfw kink stuff I can find is ddlg specific or otherwise too fem for my transmasc ass to feel comfortable or represented. I think most people moved to Instagram but I’d rather delete that fucking app than get more entrenched in it so that doesn’t help.
It’s not like the agere community is perfect, the obsession with pro- and anti-ship discourse and the way the community has always been violently anti-kink both shows the immaturity of (again, mostly minors) but also, more converningly, shows how a lot of chronically online and/or traumatized people are becoming more conservative and reactionary because the points are dressed up in social justice language. It’s honestly been harmful for my mental health for ages but the activity level of the agere community is what kept me here and overlooking the frankly disgusting parts.
This blog has been where I keep my regression resources for years now and I’m not giving it up or deleting anything but in unfollowing anti-kink or minor blogs or anything else that one or both of us would feel uncomfortable with that interaction I’m left with… nothing. No online community, no edits, no fucking stimboards cause apparently liking weird sex means you’re dirtying the whole place up by existing (you see what I mean about conservative mindsets?) and even random banners that state that your favorite character, specifically, would hate you for your “unwholesomeness”
The worst part is? I did everything Right. I found the kink community as a minor and respected their rules (because minors Shouldn’t be in kink), so I found the agere community and, for a few years there, would’ve agreed with a lot of the shitty anti-kink stuff being spread around (cause if you don’t you’re an Evil Accessory to Pedophilia!) and now I have to stand up and look around a rebuild from fucking nothing, once again. I haven’t even heard mention of dual-community littles in YEARS and it hurts knowing we used to have stuff but I just,,, missed it. There’s no more room for grey areas in this time of increasing polarization and the kids aren’t ok, they’re learning that sex is bad and immoral and people with kinks and fetishes are evil predators who can’t control their urges and desires or indulge in anything without their filth ruining any wholesomeness that was there before and it’s a losing battle to get in internet fights cause that’s never a good option, I’m more likely to be dogpiled than cause anyone to rethink their reactionary politics.
The only good thing to come of this is the fact that there’s a littles meetup I’m going to tonight and the beginnings of a little community where I live. My boyfriend actually sent me the fetlife link cause he’s heard all of this and more as he supports me and learns how to be a caregiver. So hopefully I’ll have less of a need for online community. But that doesn’t mean I’m not mourning what I’ve lost and feeling all the hurts that have added up over the years

Well, you did ask for more questions...Here's what has been on my mind: I have to admit, I liked Dabi/Touya's character better after his past and feelings about his family were revealed. I'm not sure, but when I looked that seemed to be somewhat of a controversial topic. Before the reveal, I lot of people wanted to believe Dabi had some hidden soft spots for his family, but the official narrative firmly broke that idea. When it comes to trauma and abused families...I've noticed that a lot of people only like acknowledging one specific type of victim. We like to believe that one party is good and the other is bad, and often nuances are lost in that interpretation. I'm not trying to call anyone out, but when Dabi's backstory was released I noticed this effect amongst the viewers. People started to become less sympathetic towards him, calling him a "psycho" child and such. People often do the opposite with Fuyumi, they want to demonize or belittle her for wanting to forgive her father so quickly and put the family back together. Having lived around someone who was traumatized, my personal experience with it has often been that people who are traumatized lash out at others. Horikoshi's depictions of trauma so far have supported that. Deku was a nice kid, but started to act mean as the traumas piled up. Not all traumatized people are mean or violent when they are scared, but I don't like how western fandoms often seem to feel the need to either abandon a character or excuse everything they've done in order to like them. I can like someone and still hold them accountable for their actions. Hell, I can love someone and still hold them accountable for things they've done. Loving Endeavor doesn't mean they aren't holding him accountable. Again, I'm not trying to call anyone out here, it's just an attitude in real life that I've seen transfer over into fandoms, specifically when the Todoroki family and Dabi is involved. People want to believe in one "valid" way to express trauma, and try to deny the reality when other types come into the picture. What do you think? Side Note: Steven Universe suffered from this effect to an extent. It tried to find a way to either excuse or abandon it's villains instead of approaching things honestly. The genocides the diamonds' did get swept under the rug in the name of redemption, whereas Spinel's willingness to kill people in the name of her goals goes unpunished because she had been hurt. The show acknowledges that Bismuth was extreme and forceful, but never properly addresses what she did. Instead it lets her off the hook. With Rose, the attitude is the opposite. She's never forgiven, despite how hard she tried.
I love that you said this.
Little sneak peak of what I’m going to talk about in the Katsuki meta: how bullies are handled in western media.
When I think of a few redeemed bullies in western media, I think of amity from toh, Sasha from amphibia, and Pacifica from gravity falls. I know I mention them a lot, and I love each of their characters, but I feel like the creators of those shows let their bullies be forgiven for their actions rather than actually making up for them. Excused from them even.
The problem with this idea is that, somehow, none of these girls have internalized their parents bad habits. They only show a fraction of a child’s response to abuse and not the full picture. You are going to pick up your parents habits one way or another. That’s just how it works and you can only work to break them.
Yet amity, Sasha, and Pacifica don’t seem to have these traits once they were “redeemed”? I also feel like their actual race played a part in it; if a creator made a black bully who got redeemed, the audience wouldn’t be HALF as obsessed with them as they are. Not only that, but characters are only seen as redeemable from bad actions if they’re white. It’s a censorship so that the white audience can relate to and see her more human than if she was any other ethnicity or race.
Just like I think that part of the reason why spinel or any other gem’s actions in Steven universe are easily excused because almost NONE OF THEM are fat. Rose is also a direct result of abuse. It feels like Rebecca had a vision originally, and then they just changed it for the last few episodes, the movie, and future because it was easier to make her an antagonist because most of the fandom already hated her.
Mental health nowadays is more normalized, yes I agree, but it is not NEARLY normalized enough to understand the complexities in the flaws of characters who come from abusive situations.
Im kinda tired of peoples immediate judgment of others simply based on a few interactions where they may have had “outbursts” because they want to ignore the possible idea that there is more nuance to a person. We are comfortable in the idea that mental health is feeling really sad sometimes and not that it may result in someone scream crying in the middle of the hallway for no reason.
Cw for mania, mentions of dereality, mentions of religious trauma, and mentions of murderous intent
The first time I ever experienced mania was when I was apart of a school musical. I was the stage manager, and if you’ve ever worked in theater then you know just how stressful of a job it is. So, I was manic on dress rehearsal, aka the day before the show. I almost had a physical altercation with someone. For several hours that day, I thought that no one I talked to was actually real and had a panic attack. The night before, I was planning on killing someone who hurt my friend because I thought I had a religious duty as I worked for god. Hell, I almost posted on this account talking about how I was the reincarnation of Jesus around a few weeks ago.
But those are the “dirtier” parts of mental health that people don’t want to see. They want to hide behind one way of dealing with trauma. But that’s what makes the todoroki’s such an amazing family; rei and dabi have the “ugly” kind of response. Todoroki and fuyumi have the “expected” response. Natsuo has the “common” response. But they’re manifestations of the same thing. The abuse from endeavor. Someone who was also traumatized by a society that groomed him.
Endeavors response was horrendous and there’s no getting past that, but it doesn’t change the fact that he’s a human being, NOT an unredeemable villain.

OKAY. I got Gotham Knights since the Steam Holiday Sale is still going on. And in a little over 3 hours it’s crashed straight to desktop twice.
Other than that, I think WB Montreal got so traumatized by the reception they got for Arkham Origins that they decided never to take a chance on anything, or to try being creative ever again.
The game is annoyingly competent, in that the fight mechanics work well and the rpg system makes sense, but it’s done so by the book that there’s no draw to the mechanics at all. They try to make it all about the story- which would be fine!
If they story so far wasn’t… bland.
Now don’t get me wrong; I get it. I see what they tried to do. But it all falls flat. And I think that’s mostly due to the writing.
Jason is the 2-dimensional ‘angry one’. The classic literature-loving, antique book-collecting, Shakespeare-obsessed nerd, is pigeon-holed as the unstable sibling. Having him as the Tanky character? That fits. He’s bigger than Bruce by a somewhat large margin if I’m remembering right. But to just butcher his character like that? No tank you.
Barbara is walking again, a decision the mainstream comics tried and then retconned because it sucked. Even ignoring the ableist discussion, why can’t we have Steph? Or Cass? They’re both SO underutilized it’s not even funny.
Batgirl is, direct from WB, the “closest” you can get to playing as Arkham Batman, since that’s what people were clamoring for. So roll with that! Go with the ONLY member of the Bat-Family that actually WANTS to be Batman after his death/retirement/whatever! Plus having a Batgirl, Hell, ANY superhero who primarily uses ASL and/or has issues with speech and the interpretation of language is a FANTASTIC opportunity!
Dick is white. No need to explain any more there.
Haven’t played as Tim yet because of the aforementioned crashing but I’m sure they’ll butcher him too.
I was letting myself get excited a little! The day one controversy was bull anyway, and once that was fixed I said ‘sure, why not?’. But oof. It’s just. Rough.
And yes I’ll be playing through the whole thing. Don’t look at me like that. I don’t like it either.

Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
When an interdimensional rupture unravels reality, an unlikely hero must channel her newfound powers to fight bizarre and bewildering dangers from the multiverse as the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
Tumblr media
JayBell: Since this movie came out, people have been going crazy over it. And I had to wait forever (and get a free trial of Showtime) just to watch it. Going into this movie, I knew it had to do with some multiverse stuff. Which isn’t surprising, because multiverse plots are all the rage now.
I also knew to expect it to be weird. Despite our resolution not to delve into absurdist comedies anymore, we decided to make an exception for this movie. The absurd was indeed absurd (I’ll never look at a hot dog the same way again), but thankfully it wasn’t so absurd that I had no idea what was going on. Honestly with a movie about multiple universes, that’s a huge pro.
There’s a lot of things to like about this movie. The costumes are super cool, the acting is good, it has elements of action and comedy and drama, and the concept is fun but still has a deeper meaning. The ending is kind of bittersweet. Sure, life sucks and there are other versions of you out there doing incredible things, but at least you have the people you love by your side. It really taps into that insecurity that people have about their own lives not having turned out like they pictured, but still gives them something to hope for in the end.
With that said, I do think it was overhyped a little. Also, I love Jamie Lee Curtis and she was great, but I’m not sure her performance in this movie in particular was Oscar worthy. Maybe Jamie Lee Curtis deserves an Oscar in general for all of her work, but for this role, Stephanie Hsu should’ve had it or even Angela Bassett.
Rating: 6.75/10 cats 🐈
Tumblr media
Anzie: Okaaay so I had no idea what to expect for this movie- I knew nothing but one thing -that everyone was obsessed with it - plus it was a multiple timeline/world situation, so maybe two things? And I’m shocked that it was reallllly good. But I’m actually a little traumatized.
The actors did such an amazing job just in the ‘normal’ timeline- but also in switching to other versions of themselves. Jamie Lee Curtis had me very scared. Plus there are so many tiny things that you can pick up on in the characters’ actions or little things they mumble while doing something else.
All the switching between worlds is insaaane and def gives you whiplash for sure, but overall is pretty entertaining. Except. For. Hot dog finger world. I’m forever traumatized. And they say talking about it might help. I don’t wanna talk about it. I see it every time I close my eyes. And I pray a day comes when I forget about it but I doubt that will happen.
The message at the end is realllly sad and really sweet and that (hot dog fingers aside) was really totally unexpected. And for a switcharoo timeline movie - it had a lot of heart and the message makes it mayyyybe the best one of all time. Even though my brain hurts and those hot dog fingers took my soul from my body.

yeah. I've always found it strange the fandom being so obsessively defensive towards jon, turning him into a helpless victim and going so far as to demand vocal apologies from other characters when this universe and these characters' minds don't even work that way. daisy and basira don't apologize for the abuse they both committed as police officers, they knew they didn't have the right. melanie refuses all of the apologies received from jon and sanely says that's not what she wants. jon doesn't apologize to martin and especially tim for having watched and stalked them during season two. in fact the show has always valued self-work and direct action more than apologies. "we all have regrets. but we can't undo what's done. all we can do is try to do something worthwhile with the time we have left"
It’s been so long that I forget the context in which this was sent to me but I’m guessing I was bitching at some fandom nonsense again.
I mean I think that giving vocal apologies is generally good IRL but… yeah you’re right about the characters in TMA not really doing that, so it’s not really a good measure of the amount of work they’ve done or growth they’ve experienced.
And then of course, it’s all unbalanced. No one ever suggests Jon should apologize to Melanie or Basira for inflicting torture nightmares unknowingly on them for over a year--he didn't mean to, but when you hurt someone on accident it's still the right thing to apologize, yes? And when Jon is clearly in the wrong against someone–like Tim, who he got hostile to, stalked, and then once he was proven wrong about him avoided him for months and only spoke to him when he needed something–everyone is actually crying that Tim should have been nicer to Jon. That Tim being angry at being stalked was “unfair” and he should have given Jon more of a chance because Jon was traumatized–as though Tim wasn’t, and as though it wasn’t months of stalking before Tim brought it up with their superiors and demanded a change.
Anyway. It’s all just. Standard main character bias all around.
