During the USJ attack, Izuku's actions to save All Might in part because he's the only one who knows that the hero was struggling reminded me of this paragraph from Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury:
A stranger is shot in the street, you hardly move to help. But if, half an hour before, you spent just ten minutes with the fellow and knew little about him and his family, you might just jump in front of his killer and try to stop it. Really knowing is good. Not knowing, or refusing to know, is bad, or amoral, at least.
It's quite telling that Izuku will jump to help even if he knows next to nothing about the person he's trying to save—but that's because it's a given. He had always wanted to help people. And heroes normally save strangers.
But it became obvious as the story progresses that not only ordinary, innocent people need help. It became more and more evident that the ostracized, different, hidden behind the shadows might need saving as well. But without knowing where they're coming from it will be hard to lend a helping hand.
Which makes me proud of Izuku because, later in the story, we see him trying his best to know. He's a literal child and here he is attempting to talk to villains. He might be unsuccessful most of the time because, come on, what adult will crumble easily to a teenager looking to understand them, right? But the intent is there in him, and had Izuku been older I would bet he'll convert people with villainous streaks left and right.

Anyway I wonder what it might mean that Toga the canon bi + fictional metaphor for queerness in general was explicitly told that her feelings were abnormal even though they were natural to her while Uraraka her foil and alleged love interest to the mc was implicitly told that her feelings for him were normal even though she didn't feel at ease with them. Ahah.

I wonder if Katsuki knew that Izuku feels relief when someone holds his hand.
#what’s even crazier is the narrative that both shigaraki and Katsuki share quirks having to do with their hands and destruction#like Katsuki literally calls himself. king explosion murder god dynamight.#and Izuku. still searched#for the both of their comforts. that’s crazy. that’s insane.#it’s also the fact that he also reached out to them KNOWING their dangerous destructive quirks and held on anyway like#I’m not usually for the whole ‘Katsuki is super sad and angsty bc all he can do is destroy :(‘ interpretations of his character#just because personally I feel that both that trope is overdone and that Katsuki’s development is less about hating himself for his actions#and more about accepting who he is and realizing what his insecurities once were#just generally loving himself and the world ngl#bc his pride was built off of that insecurity#but anyway back to my main point: I like it in this context bc it gives Izuku the power to feel that way yet still have bravery and empathy#Katsuki may not see himself as a destructive monster. but Izuku may assume he does.#especially given the fact that Izuku most likely doesn’t completely recognize the mental gymnastics Katsuki flipped around to not accept-#his admiration of deku#he admired his heroic nature… so izuku may just assume that his insecurities had to do with societal ideas of hurting others and destruction#and less to do with his own skill#do I think this is completely true? not necessarily but it is a cool thought to me#the river scene was the only thing I thought of when izuku forced shigaraki to hold his hands
