Oh no, I’m participating in Star Wars discourse.

Uh, so there’s a post floating around that I’m not reblogging mainly because it’s just this person’s headcanon and, whatever, people can have headcanons, but the main points they make in the midst of talking about their headcanon that I’ll be addressing are:

Leia and Han getting married and having kids is the most boring thing you can do with Leia

Leia should be a Jedi like every other dang Skywalker because somehow continuing an assumed dynasty isn’t the most boring choice you can make for her

Leia is more cut out to handle lack of attachment than Luke which we know because of her lack of response to Alderaan being destroyed

Leia and Han shouldn’t get married or even be around each other much because Han is a wandering soul and needs to travel and go places

Leia never expresses a desire for marriage or children in the OT, so removing these things won’t contradict George Lucas’ canon

And, look, these are just…missing the point of the character growth that occurs in these two during the OT.

So, I'm not saying existing or past canon/EU has done it right, but I disagree with the statement that having them marry and live kind of basic lives is the most boring choice. If that's all there was to it, sure, but those two choices by themselves show a monumental amount of character growth for both Leia and Han. (I mean, frankly, I think "Skywalker = Jedi every time no matter what" is a pretty boring choice storytelling wise, but I also think the Jedi on the whole are incredibly boring characters, so, uh...I'm biased.)

Leia was never going to live a quiet life even if Alderaan hadn't been destroyed. Like, she did not have that option, period. She would have either remained in politics or taken over as queen, may or may not have had to marry for political reasons, and may or may not have been involved with the Rebellion. Her life was chaos starting as a teen and she had no reason to believe she wouldn't die living a hectic and chaotic life.

And then she loses everything. This isn't emphasized in the movies obviously because they are fun family romps and not gritty dramas, but, good night, in a single second, she loses every family member, nearly every person she knows, every place she finds most familiar and comfortable, everything and to top it all off, the guilt that it's happened because of her unwillingness to give up the Alliance will probably always be there. She was tortured, they lost lives in battle, and, yeah, they destroy the Death Star, but at the end of that day, literally all she has left is the Alliance and those three pilots who managed to unlock her cell door without too much trouble.

I don't know about you, but I'd be straight-up shut down emotionally at that point. Like, I don't think PTSD even covers what Leia probably has going on in her head. And I think that's kind of what we see in ESB (I know the filmmakers weren’t thinking in terms of PTSD, but there are still hints of it there regardless). She's angry, she's afraid of losing people (she's obviously pissed Han is leaving after he said he'd stay, but also, there's a scene that was cut -- a good move in my opinion because the dialogue is beyond dramatic and Carrie seems out of it, but it stands that this was the intended source of Leia’s frustration -- where Luke is telling Leia he's leaving the Alliance for Dagobah and she is extremely upset that both he and Han are leaving, goes on a whole rant about how she should know better than to trust anyone but herself, etc.), and when she finally lets Han in, she promptly loses him and nearly loses Luke.

And then the events of ROTJ happen and she finds out that the man who tortured her, who stood idly by while her entire planet was destroyed, who tortured the man she loves and handed him off to the space mob to be murdered, who cut off her brother's hand and nearly allowed him to die, who has terrorized the Galaxy in general, that guy is her bio dad. And that guy is the entire reason she's Force-sensitive.

Leia stopping her Jedi training in the new canon was for a dumb reason, I agree there. Leia not wanting anything to do with the thing that, from her point of view, nearly ruined her life and the lives of those she loves about a thousand times over...I dunno, I think that's way more interesting than her just going, "Ope, I'm a Skywalker! You know what that means! Gotta be a Jedi!" And as far as her being more of a natural at it...do we know that Leia is better at healthy non-attachment than Luke? Like, any response to a planet being destroyed could easily just be a trauma response. Is shutting down like that good, actually? Or is it just going to cause problems down the road, Anakin-style?

I don't know, I just think that after living through all of that as well as a freaking war, girly might want a quiet life -- that she gets to choose -- with a husband -- who she gets to choose -- and kids -- who she gets to raise without the threat of the Empire or her nightmare of a biological father looming over their lives. And the very fact that she's able to open herself up to that sort of love and affection when the fear that it might all be ripped away from her is likely ever-present is a big deal. Her having kids knowing they'll likely be Force-sensitive even though that aspect of her biology terrifies her is a big deal. And as far as her not expressing a desire for marriage and kids in the OT...I mean, Leia isn't given the opportunity to express her desire for much in the OT, let's be real (she also never expresses a desire to become a Jedi in the OT either. We can't use what Leia didn't express in the OT to dictate whether she wants or doesn't want something is what I'm saying). They're at war. She's a military leader. She probably can't even hazard wishing for anything beyond waking up the next day. But that's not to say she didn't want such things or grow to want such things once she felt it was safe to do so. We literally don't know, but I don't think the absence of that expressed desire is indicative of anything.

As far as Han goes, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure in every iteration of his story, his itchy feet weren't like...a part of his personality. He had a highly traumatic childhood that left him with few options and ended up living a transient lifestyle out of necessity. He actually seems remarkably easy to keep around if you don't treat him like garbage. I mean, he's given exactly one day of friendship, and he sticks around with the Rebellion for three years before some run-in with a bounty hunter makes him realize he needs to take care of his debt with Jabba. He's not leaving just for funsies or because he's bored or just really needs to be a smuggler again...and he seems legitimately sad have to leave when he's not busy getting pissed at Leia for not having the emotional response he wants her to have (first half of ESB Han is being a big ol' baby and I'm perfectly fine admitting that). And what character growth to see Han "I'm in it for the money" Solo learn to care for his friends, learn to support a cause, learn to love Leia when he's spent so much of his life unattached. Han making boring life choices is indicative of character growth and learning to care about others more than himself. What a lovely thing for this man to learn.

The call for Leia and Han to remain living separate lives but still committed to one another kind of demands that they move backward in character growth in my opinion. We have two people who are in rough places due, by and large, to trauma, who eventually open up to one another and seem better for it and then they...just go back to what they were doing before except they occasionally see each other? Why would they want that? They've grown as people, they've won a dang war, and they're finally able to live somewhat securely. Why wouldn't they want to live basic lives when they were denied the privilege of such choices for so long? And how is them making choices based on their love for another person — love that they had a heck of a time coming to terms with — boring?

Okay so the 'bad' news about Double Agent Vader is it's only got canon ships. Any time I ever recommend a non-obikin fic, know that it's TOP TIER because I can't read them otherwise. It helped that a lot of it's gen or not very romance focused BUT it's also so, SO well written that I fucking enjoyed the bits of HanLeia in it, a ship which usually makes me throw up in my mouth.

Everyone loves Double Agent Vader because it's the origin of the Amavikka, the OG Tatooine slave culture which absolutely fucks, but honestly? Even as popular as it is, it's STILL MASSIVELY UNDERRATED bc there is so much else to like besides the gorgeous worldbuilding!!

People are sleeping on phenomenal characterization, immense narrative effectiveness (the painful parts are painful, the funny parts are funny, the hopeful parts are hopeful, etc) and the level of emotional nuance in complicated relationships.

It also masterfully fills in material previously untouched in the OT (it's largely focused on Anakin's relationship with Leia for example) without disrespecting or neglecting what canon focused on (contains my absolute FAVOURITE portrayal of Luke Skywalker HANDS DOWN).

Like okay. You know how I say the rebels remind me of the grassroots af local punks I got in with as a teen who helped me start to deprogram? That didn't start when I watched the OT. That started when I read Double Agent Vader.

Especially the fic "Empire Day" after which I was like "this author has DEFINITELY spent a shitload of time with some irl group analogous to the Rebellion" because I felt like I was back on the couch at one of the illegal squats laughing at the last political joke a friend of mine told me before fleeing town bc he'd become enough of a problem for local Nazis that he was legit gonna die if he stayed. They got right everything contemporary media tends to get wrong about it. I just.

Fwoo. Deep breath cause I realize I did not start at the beginning here AT ALL lmao.

The premise of Double Agent Vader is that about ~4 years after the events of RotS, Palpatine sends Vader to visit Tatooine as a punishment to remind him of his place. But instead it reminds him of his people. And he soon starts thinking of himself as Anakin again, in his head referring to Sidious as depur instead of master, and starts working for the Rebellion behind Palps' back, and. What if OT but Vader is a rebel spy? And his cover is so deep most of the rebels don't know. They don't even fucking know.

This is an author who understands Anakin so well. I can't say much more without spoiling it.

And like. Years before the Kenobi series came out (last individual fic in the unfinished series was completed in like 2017), this was THE story that gave Leia the attention she deserved.

I'd give a fuckin kidney for this series to have continued up to RotJ, which was probs the author's initial plan. As it stands, it goes up to shortly after the end of ESB.

Longest series I own all the books to: Literally the only series I own all the books to (and I really don't know why I don't seem to be able to keep track to any other/new series) is Harry Potter. 1-7 in paperback (both english and german), the three Hogwarts-Library books, "cursed child" (still haven't read that one shhhhh...) and 1-5 as illustrated versions and I am so excited for the 6th to come out 🤩 so yeah about 1/5 of the limited space on the shelf in my bedroom is used by Harry Potter 🙈

Well I watched 8 episodes rn and this is... very similar to Ergo Proxy, I'd say! There's also an "isolated" town, social stratification is escalated, cyberpunk etc, tho Texhnolyze is way more violent. I mean, mature? There are bunch of scenes with blood, cutting out limbs haha... Ergo Proxy was kinda PG at this point

What's the highlight of your morning routine that sets a positive tone for your day? I'm not so sure how to answer this – I've been on an increasingly downward spiral and find it hard to smile these days. I wish I can get out of this rut :( I don't even have a thing in the morning that helps with my mood; when I wake up, I already have to exert so much energy just trying to get out of bed because it's become really difficult to do even just that.

Are there any new podcasts or audiobooks that have been accompanying your commutes? I have a horrible attention span when it comes to anything audio-centric that isn't a song lol, so podcasts and I were never able to bond well. When I drive or book a Grab, I prefer listening to music altogether or picking a video to watch. 

How do you wind down and relax after a long day? Any particular activities or rituals? I don't know anymore either...somewhere along the way I've lost even my free time because I've been OTing until 10 or 11 PM nearly every night this month. The one thing I refuse to miss out on, despite everything, is time with my dogs. Talking to them, playing tug of war with them, cuddling them...

Have you discovered any hidden gems in your local neighborhood recently? Maybe a new cafe or park? I really want to try that quaint minimalist café nearby, but I guess I'm just a little intimidated because the space is SUPER tiny and I feel I'd get too conscious if I go there alone. Maybe someday.

What's your go-to way of staying organized and managing your tasks right now? I have a virtual to-do list that I try to stay on top of.

Is there a specific dish you've been cooking or enjoying frequently in your current meal rotation? Yeah, I've been making chapaguri (or bibimyeon, if that's what I have at home) and samgyeopsal whenever I can. The noodles and meat just go SO well together and it's one of the few meals I can finish within minutes, knowing how slow I generally eat.

Have you made any changes to your exercise routine lately? New workouts or activities? I don't like working out. I've tried it so many times and everyone always says they feel great afterwards, but I'm always just so miserable during and after lmao. The only exercise I look forward to/find satisfaction in, would be walking.

What's a recent small achievement or milestone that you're proud of? For the first time ever I was able to confide in at least one of my parents about what I've been going through. I've been keeping everything in this whole time but there's only so much you can take, so I started messaging my dad last week about how hard everything has been, and letting him know I've been crying and stuff.

The whole experience has felt super freeing. My mom and grandma have also caught wind and are chipping in with their own ways of comfort and support, and I've been feeling grateful.

Another thing I was proud to finally confront my teammates about my plans to step down. I'm sick of letting it continue being a theoretical idea, so just so they know my resignation is nearer than they think, I just finally said it out loud so that too can be out of my system and out of the little corner in my mind I've been keeping in.

Are there any movies or TV shows you're re-watching and finding new details in? I feel this the most with wrestling! In the past I was largely into it from a very stan-ish perspective, so I was just kinda rooting for my 'crushes' and ignored the actual technicals of wrestling. Now that I'm older I see how it has changed, with me actually invested in what makes a match boring and less boring.

How do you stay inspired and creative during your work or free time these days? That drive to be inspired has definitely taken a harsh stop these days, with January hitting me with a mental blow you wouldn't believe. I'm in a slump, I'm in a rut, however you want to put that type of situation – I'm in it. In the limited free time I have I've been spending it lying on the couch, just anxiously awaiting the next work week and generally being unproductive; and it's frustrating having come to this point and momentarily feeling helpless.

The great thing about slumps is that they're all it is to them – they're temporary. I know enough about myself to know this isn't going to last forever and so long as I'm able to address the things in my way, I'll be back up again. That means going back to museums to feel creatively-charged, wanting to take myself out on weekends to experience new sights and sensations, and having that positive outlook in life I used to have. I'll be ok!!! Just need some fixing and internal troubleshooting, and a little rest :)

Have you come across any interesting articles, websites, or online communities recently? I mean, Reddit's got every interesting subreddit possible so I love hanging out in there. My feed is essentially space content, social history – photos of how life was back in the day, r/HobbyDrama is particularly a fantastic read, and all subreddits for my personal interests, from wrestling to K-pop.

What's the latest hobby or interest you've picked up, and what drew you to it? Not a hobby per se but I've been getting into Seventeen lately and have done nothing but watch Going Seventeen the past weekend. They've helped out a lot with this mental crisis I've been stuck in.

What's the most memorable interaction you've had with someone today? I had a very serious converstion with Trina today and it was me basically telling her to brace herself because I'm very likely to file my resignation by the 31st, latest Feb 1st. Kind of shitty on my part because I initially said I'd hold out for as long as I can and try to stick it out until March... but there's only so much I could take. I tried. I didn't just try, I fucking fought to keep staying.

But when you begin to cry every single morning to the point of hyperventilating and when you start feeling emotionless even towards significant job wins, and once your parents start being on a panicked frenzy because of how quiet you've been in the last 30 days and actually think you should be on suicide watch (I'm NOT getting ideas, but that's apparently how it translates to them lol), that's when you know the sun may be setting and it's time to go.

How do you inject moments of positivity into your daily routine, no matter how busy it gets? I mean I'll hop on Instagram and try to watch a couple of funny reels, and that helps me if only for a few seconds.

Are there any personal projects you're working on right now that bring you joy? Does journaling count? My sister got me a physical journal with these writing prompts – it's basically like these surveys LOL but I try to put in one entry a day. It even comes with a 365-day mood tracker, which, it's the first time I'm doing one so I've been super faithful when it comes to updating that motherfucker everyday haha.

What's a current goal that's shaping the choices you make on a daily basis? Resigning. GUYS IT'S NO LONGER JUST WORDSSSSSS AHHHHHH

Have you visited any local events or markets that have given your weekends a unique flavor? Tbh not really. Not a lot of exciting, hippie things happening on this part of the city.

How do you stay connected with friends and family despite your busy schedule? Instant messaging is always there. Everyone's reachable on Messenger so people haven't felt distant for a long time.

What's the most interesting thing you've learned recently, whether intentionally or by chance? Cody Rhodes was apparently working super small shows (like, high school gym level of small) back in 2016 when he left WWE. It's crazy how high he has soared since then, and even more inspirational to see him not rely on his last name and actually be willing to put in the ugly, dirty work knowing it's the only way he could start completely reshaping himself. Cody rules dude.

How do you maintain a balance between screen time and other activities in your day? I don't. I'm in front of a screen nearly 24/7 but tbh balancing it out is just not one of my priorities, simply put lol.

Have you experimented with any new methods of relaxation or mindfulness lately? Not really. I'm allowing myself to wallow in this rut first, but I'll be back in my element eventually.

What's your strategy for making the most of your weekends and recharging for the week ahead? I hardly sleep on weekends and spend my Saturdays and Sundays catching up with whatever content I've missed on social media – my Twitter feed, watching vlogs, soaking in K-pop shit – because I no longer get free time on weekdays with the ridiculous OT I have to put in.

Have you been dedicating time to any DIY projects or crafts that reflect your creativity? Nope, not really. I've never been artsy.

How do you incorporate learning and personal growth into your everyday life? I ask people about how they deal with things or ask them about their previous experiences about anything really, so I can learn from them. I also observe people a lot. It makes me see what I can emulate from them and what to avoid.

What's a unique tradition or habit that you've cultivated recently, making each day special? Answering the aforementioned journal that my sister got me as a Christmas gift last year.

THE GREAT KHAN

The steps we take to avoid our future often secure it.

The old Khan knew this, but the new one does not. I am drawn from my cell to kneel before him again. As his soldiers force me to prostrate myself before his throne, I wonder what he is running from.

What is he escaping, that so drew him to the past?

'Great Khan,' I sneer, getting to my feet as his guards lower their weapons at me. Laser technology which can pierce even their heavy armour, more sophisticated and precise than our clumsy rifles. I'd rather die from them; it sounds less painful than being shot.

'Have you still not learned?' I ask, looking the Great Khan in the eyes. They are small, dark gems in a face like a mountainside. His whole body looks like stone. He sits atop the marble dais, a slab of granite out of place.

'You know to avert your eyes from me, vizier,' he rumbles. 'I came back to prevent the grim future that awaits your people - the least you could do is obey my orders.'

I step towards the dais. The guards on either side move closer, red beads dancing across my chest from their laser sights.

'I am here, as ever, to advise,' I say. 'I am here because you requested my presence. But I wish to tell you a tale, and I will not return to my cell until I have done so.'

'The people,' he says, ignoring me. 'They rebel and conspire and fight against me. They cannot see that I am doing this so the next great Khan does not arise. He plunged the world into fear and misery and pain - pain I shall free you all from. But I must have order. I must have control!'

I begin to walk up the steps. This is not allowed, and the guards move to intercept me, to drag me down, but a subtle gesture from the Khan stays them. They follow close behind, ready to shoot me in the back if I try anything.

'Let me tell you the story of that great Khan,' I say. 'The story you have told to me so many times.'

'I already know the story,' the Great Khan insists. 'I am trying to stop it!'

I continue. You shall hear the story as I tell it to the Great Khan:

'Once, there was a Great Khan. He was a fierce and strong ruler, and he held the whole world under his thumb. But such was his paranoia and his desire for control, that his reign was one of terror. People hid in their houses and plotted against him, for fear that he would turn his guards on them for the slightest infraction.

'Decades after his rule began, the people discovered a way to turn back time - to go to a place before the Great Khan had solidified his rule and stop him, once and for all.

'So they sent their strongest soldier back in time, to step in and prevent the Khan's rule. They turned his body to stone, to stop him being killed by a bullet from the primitive weapons, and they sent a battalion of their best troops with him, armed with the latest technology. With this, the soldier could easily defeat the next great Khan.

'Only, instead of trying to find the next great Khan, the soldier comes back and kills the current Khan. And he takes over the role, and begins to rule the world. And his fear of the next great Khan is so overpowering, that he begins seeing enemies where none exist. His paranoia grows, and with it his desire for control, until the people hid in their houses and plotted against him, for fear that he would turn his guards on them for the slightest infraction.'

I had reached the top of the dais. The Khan sat before me, face darkened by fury. He stood abruptly, drawing a gun.

There was a blast.

The Great Khan fell, choking, as the laser blast burned through his throat. The guards behind me lowered their weapons.

I sighed as I stared down at the last great Khan. Then, treading heavily with the burden, I took my place on the throne.

'Sir,' one guard said hesitantly. 'Was all that true?'

I gestured airily, exhausted.

'I'm not the time traveler here,' I sighed. 'But I have served many great Khans. The shape of history is a sphere, and not a big one at that.'

'...what do you mean?'

'I mean, one great Khan is much like any other. And sometimes, you see the path a Khan's rule will take before they assume the throne. Your great soldier was no great ruler, and the way he talked of the next great Khan...'

'So you're saying... it was true?'

'I can't confirm it definitively,' I say. 'But to be on the safe side, I'll ask your men to stand down. I want all laser weaponry destroyed, and the prisoners released. And spread the news to the people: we'll be governing without a great Khan from now on.'

December 9th, 2021

My one lecture of the day was this morning at 8:30 abd ot started out a little weird. When I walked up to the room, I saw one friend and one other person I recognized from other lectures and that was it. When the class actually started, it was 4 people IRL, one online and the teacher. I knew not everyone joins the early morning lectures, but this was at another level. (Mind you, there are about 70 people who are supposed to attend this lecture.)

After that, I worked on the project with my team, but since I didn't feel all that well, I went home early and managed to get in a nap before working on another assignment.

How do you stay motivated during winter?

- This is actually something I struggle with. The darkness always makes it feel like you're halfway through the evening while it hasn't even 7 yet. One thing that helps me for the subjects where I don't have to write/read a lot is listening to Christmas songs.

What is your favourite winted outfit?

- I'm not too big on fashion, but I'd say dark jeans with a top and a soft cardigan.

What winter activities do you love?

- Wandering around on Christmas markets or in town where you can see into peoples home and look at their Christmas decorations/trees!

Hi!  I’m glad that I left anon on just for this then!  I do indeed read a lot of the Star Wars comics, though, I go in fits and starts with them, like a lot of people do. 😂 My recommendations are: - Star Wars 2015 (by Jason Aaron) + Darth Vader 2015 (by Kieron Gillen) - I put these two together because the first 6 or so issues are meant to be read concurrently, they’re events crossing over into each other and showing different aspects from different points of view, and I think it really helps to enrich both stories if you’re alternating between the two for at least six issues. Beyond that, they’re both just really, really solidly good comics!  They’re set just post-ANH, where Luke is discovering more about being a Jedi, where we see Vader discovering the identity of the pilot who took out the Death Star, where Leia is dealing with the political stuff of the galaxy, etc.  They’re probably still some of the best comics that SW has put out, imo! - Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith 2017 (by Charles Soule) - This is the second Darth Vader comic series (so pay attention to who the author is--the current ongoing one is by Greg Pak, which is solidly good, but hasn’t yet hit the same heights as either of these, for me) and it’s set in the aftermath of Revenge of the Sith and this is easily my favorite SW comic.  Soule really digs into the connection between Anakin and Vader, how they are very much the same person, how the first volume of Darth Vader comics is about who Vader is during the OT, the Soule one is about flaying him open to understand just how he cannot face what he’s doing or the other choices he could have made. It’s over the top drama (it’s SO DRAMATIC and I LOVE IT) in a way that really highlights just how awful Anakin has become, that he is crushing even more of himself and you can see him losing still yet more and more, eventually leading to something like the OT version we know from later. - Obi-Wan & Anakin by Charles Soule - This is only five issues, as well as I generally recommend reading it two or three times, because Soule is actually pretty solid about not always spoon-feeding you everything and how the narrative arcs and parallels are more subtle than you’d expect from Star Wars.  The art in this one is stunning, the worldbuilding has a ton of cool details, you get to see bb!Anakin considering leaving the Jedi Order and why he decides to stay, as well as some really fascinating connections to how the Jedi see the galaxy and how Anakin sees it. - Age of Republic by Jody Houser - There are eight issues of this maxi series, each one focusing on a different character, and they’re all really interesting and have some amazing character moments.  My favorites are the Obi-Wan and Anakin ones, there’s a lot you really get to see about their relationship and how supportive it actually is, but all of them have really great looks at the characters they’re focusing on. - Jedi of the Republic: Mace Windu by Matt Owens - Okay, fair warning, the art for this series is not going to be for everyone, there are some seriously wonky panels in it, but the story itself is a great look at Mace’s character.  Both for the bits of backstory about him and for about how the Jedi look at the galaxy, that Mace Windu is such a rich, wonderful character and deserved a look at him like this.  Bonus, Kit Fisto is hilarious in this comic! - Star Wars Adventures by multiple authors - Basically anything in the Adventures line is worth reading!  Most of them are fairly light stuff, not super deep, they’re meant to be cute stories, but I’ve enjoyed all of the ones I’ve read and the prequels ones usually have some moment that’s completely batshit in a way that’s totally true to Star Wars.  They’re kid-focused comics, but really, really adorable ones. - Clone Wars Battle Tales by Michael Moreci - Speaking of dramatic fun, this mini series is just an absolute scream, they’re totally ridiculous in the way that I would read a hundred issues of them.  Plus, you get some really great Jedi moments or Anakin hilarity moments and I’m always down for that, too. - Kanan: The Last Padawan by Greg Weisman - Speaking of gorgeous art!  Never will you see a woman as beautiful as Depa Billaba in this comic, my goodness.  But you also get the story of bb!Caleb going through Order 66 and the trauma of running in the galaxy as a former Padawan who had their Master gunned down in front of them and, boy, did this comic know how to make it hurt.  There’s some cool worldbuilding in there, some amazing looks at the Jedi pre-Order 66, and just a whole lot of feelings. - Shattered Empire by Greg Rucka - This is a four-issue mini-series with a) gorgeous art and b) a whole lot of connective tissue/aftermath for the galaxy post-Return of the Jedi.  Rucka’s writing is solid here and you get a good variety of different characters and the paths they’re starting down and what they’re planning to do next, and it’s just a very solid read. - Poe Dameron by Charles Soule - I really didn’t expect to love this comic as much as I did, but Soule really knocked it out of the park and created a funny, moving, interesting journey for the character.  Even if Poe’s not your usual fave, the work this comic put into being interesting and connecting various things and telling a fun, actiony story really was good. - Age of Rebellion��and Age of Resistance are both solid mini-series that I would definitely recommend!  My heart beats for the prequels, so I’m more focused on those, but if you’re interested, these are great looks at individual characters, too. HONORABLE MENTIONS: - The Princess Leia comic by Mark Waid is one I haven’t reread in awhile but I remember greatly enjoying it.  I’ve enjoyed Soule’s current 2020 Star Wars ongoing comic, though, because of the pandemic, it hasn’t had a chance to get a ton of issues out yet. I enjoyed the Darth Maul mini series by Cullen Bunn and, if you wind up liking Aphra from the first Vader comic, she gets her own spin off comic that’s really solid, too!

That medical supply place finally came this afternoon to haul away Stupid Bed (as we've been calling it)! Along with Stupid Commode Chair. 🎉🎈🕺💃🕺🎈🎉

They were actually supposed to come last Tuesday, but never showed up and then got snotty with Mr. C when he called. 😒 They also claimed to be totally booked up until the next week. (Though Christmas Limbo couldn't have helped there.)

As a refresher, I kept telling OT and Social Services that I didn't need those items, and did not intend to use them. But, they insisted on having them delivered before I went home anyway. 🙄

You can bet I never did use them, other than needing to store things on/under Stupid Bed. Because there was no other place, with it taking up half the room. Stupid Commode also stayed lying on top of there since the day I got home, to get it out of the way.

But, it's finally out! And the front room suddenly looks huge! 😅

It's still pretty much in disarray right now, and I'm too worn out just from the disruption to try and do much about that at the moment. But, I am SO GLAD to finally get half the room's worth of usable floor space back, for the first time since September.

Insist on "helping" against someone's firmly stated wishes, actually make it way more difficult for them to navigate around one of their main living spaces as a new full-time wheelchair user! 🙃

Besides the fact that Stupid Bed, etc. served as a constant looming reminder of some really bad experiences. Including dealing with metric shit-tons of just that sort of intrusive, incompetent, high-handed, dehumanizing "help".

Relieved in multiple ways to get that thing gone out of my house.

Anyway, I'm not even sure yet what we will want to do with the rest of the room, newly opened up again. Probably get at least one comfy chair in there, besides now having the room to set up a big cat tree! 😻 As I'd been planning for a while.

Her delicate fingers danced along the strings of her amaranth-colored acoustic. It was a fairly new guitar, given to her by a rather close colleague. She used to play at the Gaslight Café exclusively in the late fifties, not because she particularly liked that venue, more so because they were the only ones who gave a fraction of a fuck about her shitty guitar with a few broken strings and a makeshift capo that was made in the bathroom 10 minutes before a show using a sharpie and a rubber band. The crowd was always friendly; never hostile or awkward, just... supportive which was always appreciated on her part. Having people enjoy or at least pretend to enjoy her music was comforting at the time. As of right now, she was only visiting for old times sake, nostalgia purposes.

The new guitar was a testament to the amount of shit she'd been through. I mean signing a record deal is a pretty big deal, right? Having people know your name and buy your album. I mean, she was no Bob Dylan but she'd get stopped in the street from time to time which was unquestionably a step up from the loogies and cat-calls sent her way. Even now, her appearance at the usually humdrum populated café has drawn more attention than anticipated. The seats were all taken and the rather small building held far more people than the fire marshal recommended, but what a turn-out it was.

The audience hummed the chorus, cautious to not tune out her newfangled voice as it continued, nonchalant as ever as if there were only a few unamused patrons sitting in the crowd, but there wasn't. The populace of Greenwich Village loved her. She made a shit-hole like Greenwich something for people to keep their eyes on. And she didn't disappoint.

Her eyes remained lowered as she rather curled into herself and let the song end with a guttural reverberation. There was a silence as her eyelids lifted marginally, letting out a few pants of air to recover. Then an uproar, a surge in applause! She glanced up and flashed a charming smile, one that only showed the top row of teeth and caused her childish eyes to crinkle as she let out a giggle, concealing her laughter from the large array of eyes with her dainty hands. She adjusted herself and lifted a hand to reach the microphone.

"Thank you, you guys are a lovely audience, much nicer than Queens," the crowd let out a dispersed chuckle at her humor and she smiled again at their enthusiasm. She loved this, the feeling of having immense support. It made her feel... alive, to say the least.

"Okay, I'll be back in 20, take it easy while I'm gone." She waved off the crowd, unfurling herself from her guitar strap and handed the instrument to the stagehand, thanking the man afterward. She smoothed out any puckers or creases found in her dress as she stepped down from the stage, heading towards Pappi and another bystander, one who looked as if he'd been sleeping on the floor for days. Poor sucker looked as if he didn't even own a winter coat.

Pappi's arms extended out towards her, inviting her into his embrace. "You did great, kid," her eyes brightened at the compliment as she wrapped her arms around his torso and pressed her rosy cheek flush against his chest. The action should have been far more intimate than the two adults interpreted it, and most others would have perceived it that way as well. In fact, most familiars thought Pappi was fucking her most of the time.

Which he wasn't and neither one had ever considered it. Just business partners with an intimate brother-sister bond. Nothing more, Nothing less. The taller man, gripped her by her upper arms to gaze at her, with a gentleness, "Really, gave em a show."

"Aw thanks, Pappi, but I've got to admit that I'd still be singing songs on my back porch if it weren't for this dump." She jested, her hands hanging from her hips. Pappi let out a deep chuckle which was softened by her one-off laugh that wasn't exactly delicate or poised but was attractive in an unorthodox sense. The banter played out until somebody approached Pappi and tugged at the sleeve of his button-up to get his attention. She looked with furrowed brows and a curious expression as the man whispered in Pappi's ear with what appeared to be urgency. Pappi muttered a quick swear under his breath, and looked up at her with an apologetic frown and the same knitted brows she once wore.

"Sorry, kid. There's a few thugs out back making a mess," he patted her on the arm and told her he'd be right back after taking care of the 'mess'. Her head bobbed in understanding as her eyes watched as Pappi followed the man outback and into the fray. Her stare lingered on the door, but it was the serendipitous turn of her head that allowed her to acknowledge the ragged man sitting at the bar. His eyes fixated on the golden hue of the whiskey in his glass. She was almost certain he hadn't moved an inch since she came over, only stayed staring at the same glass of whiskey for at least five minutes. God, he looked like hell. His coat was hanging on by a thread, quite literally. Holes in miscellaneous places, unruly hair that looked like it hasn't been combed in days, shoes that looked soaked by the snow just outdoors and a runny nose that looked like the result of an oncoming cold. His wardrobe fitting flawlessly against the backdrop of the monochromatic greys and tans that made up the scene of New York in the Sixties. He looked familiar, she was sure of that. It was likely he'd played a few gigs at the Gaslight, same as her. Then again there were dozens of scruffy looking musicians who sidled into the Gaslight to perform, this one was hardly any different.

She sucked in a breath through her nose and ambled towards him, "So, you a friend of Pappi's?" Her elbows supported her weight against the hardwood bar, her fingers interlaced with each other as she peered down into the swirling rings of the once tall-standing oak. It took him a bit longer to register that she was speaking to him, "Oh, um, yeah, I guess..." His hand slipping up towards his face to rub at the skin, waking him up. His hooded eyes look over to her and away from that untouched glass of whiskey. Her laugh startled him, unexpected as it was. Her giggle was an unfamiliar sound. It shattered through the blaring car horns outside, the chatter of the audience, even threw the bullshit that spewed out of the radio sitting on the counter across from them. He just stared at her, unaware of just how ignorant someone would have to be to notice all the shit that's taking place everywhere around them and still have something to laugh about. It was selfish, but who wasn't these days. Everyone wanted others to be as devoid of joy as they were. Of course, there were a few stragglers who managed to keep a pep in their step and a smile on their faces. Those are the ones who get broken. They break down so quickly in a place that loses hope quicker than a bucket with gunshots loses water. But, she wasn't ignorant, and he knew this. She just decided to not take anybody's shit. And when nobody gives a fuck whether your dreams are accomplished or not, you learn to say fuck off right back. I guess that's what separates the losers from the winners. Her demeanor and the way she carried herself, with the balloon-sleeves and ruffled collar of her dress shirt, the way it was neatly tucked into her pinafore, it gave the impression that she was... incapable. But she was ten times more capable than almost everyone in that Café.

"If you don't mind me asking," she lifted her hand to wave down a bartender, not making eye contact with him until she knew someone was coming to attend to her request. "Got a name?" Her bright brown eyes locked with the gray and muddied irises of his own and it ignited a raft in his brain, making him adjust his position in self-consciousness.

"Um, yeah. Llewyn,"

Llewyn, Llewyn... she's heard that name before. She takes a sip from her glass of red wine the bartender had passed to her not to long ago. She takes a sip and contemplates why that name sounds so familiar.

"... Llewyn... Davis?"

It had slipped from her lips before she could even register it. And it surprised him, far more that she knew who he was. He couldn't remember meeting her or introducing himself to her before but then again, he was a performer. Not a very popular or reputable one mind you, but a performer none the less. She'd probably seen him at the Gaslight once before or something.

"Uh..., yeah... Hey, how'd you, um?"

"Oh, um I think I might own one of your albums. Inside Llewyn Davis, right?" The mention of his less than successful solo artist debut was a bit upsetting but he just dismissed it and looked away. "Yup... that's the one." His voice sounded disappointed and beaten but who could blame him. Chasing a dream so far that it only leads you to a dead-end can be frustrating.

"You know, I really enjoyed it," she mused, much to his disbelief but it must have only been out of politeness. "That makes one of us," he mutters, his frown dropping a millimeter or so. She couldn't decipher what he was referring to, but she could tell that whatever it was, it had sucked the rest of his joy and drive out of him. The business will do that to you, take a starry-eyed kid and promise them a dream only to drop them on their ass and tell them they'll never be more than a stand-in gig for a bunch of nobodies.

"I really loved the song— oh, how'd it go?" She pondered, the way her thick eyebrows scrunched up in concentration giving her the wonders of a child. The same way her determination to prove the potential the album had was childish. But it was the truth, she did enjoy the album and even recommended it to a few friends back when she bought it, now it just sits in a blue milk crate next to her record player, collecting dust. He gazed at her expectantly waiting to hear her utter at least a single lyric from his album.

"Oh!" She snaps her fingers in triumph, startling Llewyn once more. "It goes," and she readied her voice with a clearing of her throat and sang what she could remember. "Hang me, oh hang me, I'll be dead and gone," his eyes widened a bit at the surprise of her actually acknowledging his music, and the fact that she enjoyed it, no less. "Hang me, oh hang me, I'll be dead and gone," the lilt in her voice echoed through the Café and a few patrons stopped their chatter to cherish her sweet voice. The silence stuck around for a beat and her eyes fluttered open after her display.

"Yeah, that's it!" Her outburst wasn't expected and nearly knocked Llewyn out of his seat for about the fifth time.

"Yeah," he muttered, letting his eyes linger on her form a moment longer than he'd like to admit, brows furrowed in thinking. "Whad'ya say your name was again?" He questioned, curiosity getting the better of him. And there was that damn giggle again, opening his eyes to a whole new world of possibilities where you can giggle and laugh about things without having to feel sorry about the lack of a difference it makes. She answers and it's just nothing special but at the same time it feels like... a novelty. "Dorothy.”

A makeout session with him would be full of smirks he likes to go slow but quick like one little peck two little pecks then three

Just to keep the standard internet precautions, I’ll just say I come from the general region of beautiful Thessaly :)  But I lived in Thessaloniki for my studies, so I can recommend some stuff based on personal experience. So assuming you’ll be there for several days, these are my suggestions and if you don’t have enough time, choose the ones you prefer.

For culture: First and foremost, the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Byzantine Culture. Don’t miss them. If the budget allows it, have a meal in the Byzantine Museum’s restaurant because it is ♡ ! Thessaloniki is often called the cultural capital of Greece because there is always something happening there. That’s why I recommend you check what’s up in the Concert Hall whenever you go back. I love Thessaloniki’s Concert Hall, especially in winter they have fantastic artists, orchestras and theatrical shows (even from Broadway), ballets from Russia etc. Check the Lazaristes Monastery which houses the Museum of Contemporary Art and also many concerts take place there. Go to the Fortress of the Upper Old Town and also stay there for a drink in a roof garden or terrace cafe during sunset - the views are fantastic. Visit the 7th century Church of Saint Sophia downtown, Rotunda and the Arch of Galerius (known as Kamara) close to the University. Also, you’ll find many ruins from the palace of Galerius and other stuff (lol I am so helpful) as you stroll around the city. Saint Demetrius’ Church is also massive and gorgeous. Basically, there are numerous monuments and museums in Thessaloniki but those are the ones I know first hand. 

For views / entertainment: Visit the White Tower in the morning and ascend the stairs, there are beautiful views to the entire city and the Thermaic Gulf from its top. You can also go to the rotating cafe on the top of OTE tower which is not far from the White Tower but I have to warn you for the price. Then of course, Thessaloniki’s trademark is its waterfront. You can take one of the communal bikes and ride along the big waterfront. This is ideal in the morning, it is super refreshing. (There are also 4-wheel family bikes, electric scooters, carriages available.) Also Thessalonians of all ages hang around in the waterfront and its parks, some with their friends, some with their animals, some just go to read alone, it’s very nice. If you like nature, you can go for a walk in the Hill of Seych Sou or look up if there’s anything happening in the Forest and Earth Theaters which are located there. Saint Paul’s Church is nearby which is also very nice. One thing that is really trending in Greece and particularly Thessaloniki are Escape Rooms. I am pretty sure they are available in English too. I can’t recommend them enough. I ‘ve been to a lot BrainGame and MindTrap escape rooms but there are many more. 

For shopping: Assuming you’re into shopping since you’ve been to Mediterranean Cosmos many times, I’d recommend Tsimiski, Navarinou and Egnatias Streets for average - tight budget and Proxenou Koromila Street  for big budget or daydreaming lol 

For food / nightlife: I don’t know much but I like “Diagonios” for meat & grill, “Ellinikon” for traditional greek mezedes (appetizers) and nearby “Marea Sea Spirit” for seafood. If you want portions for giants in very reasonable prices, go to “Kastro” in the Upper Old Town. Thessaloniki is famous for its sweets and pastries. You’ve been to Aristotle’s Square so you might have smelled the scents from “Terkenlis”. Try the trademark chestnut “tsoureki” (sweet bread) from Terkenlis. Agapitos pastry shop is famous too. But my personal recommendation is ice cream from Estia bakery / pastry shop. It’s close to the White Tower. Ice. cream. there!!! But honestly Thessaloniki is heaven for food, anywhere you go is at least decent, you must be really unlucky to have a bad experience. For alcohol and live Greek music at night, bars, clubs etc go to Valaoritou street. Specifically for hard partying and stuff, I don’t know much because it’s not my cup of tea but Thessaloniki has everything for everyone. 

BONUS: If you stay a month and run out of my recommendations lol, you might want an excursion in the outdoors. Take a bus or rent a car for Chalcidice which is close to Thessaloniki (50 minutes min.) and has some of the best beaches in Greece. Holomon Forest in Chalcidice is in my opinion as good for hiking as its beaches for swimming. Which is quite something. Mount Olympus  is about 1 hour from Thessaloniki. If you’re into lakes, wildlife, bird watching etc, Kerkini Lake in Serres is ideal and is about 1,5 hours from the city too.

I unfortunately can’t do general headcanons for Dancetale because I haven’t developed the AU, but feel free to send some specific scenarios, and I’ll think about making my own version of Dancetale. 

Outertale

Sans

Cosmic is a pun. His name is like Comic Sans, but add an S to make it Cosmic Sans. 

He’s incredibly good with children. In fact, he goes to the library and holds a class to teach kids everything he knows. 

Stardin doesn’t have an official school yet, so Cosmic has to make do. He’s working with the queen to build one though. 

The kids absolutely adore him because of his humor and his passion for his work. He also becomes the unofficial babysitter for the town, where if a parent needs someone to watch their kids for a while, they can drop them off at his house. 

Often times, his brother would come home and find Cosmic taking a nap, buried under sleeping children, all snuggling him. 

Cosmic’s greatest talent, is his knitting. He’s a speed knitter that can knit a sweater for an entire family in under 5 hours. His knitted items are top notch and of the finest quality. Even the Royal Family loves his work. 

Cosmic doesn’t even sell his items, but rather gives it away for free. Knitting is is hobby and he enjoys it, so there’s no point in charging a fee. The happiness on a family’s face is enough for him. 

He’s a member of the Shelter Homeless Committee, where him and others work together to ease the lives of the homeless. He knits clothing, toys, and blankets for them. 

Did your parents kick you out of the house? He’s so sorry, you can stay at his place, he’ll knit something to keep you warm, and he’ll help you settle into the homeless shelter then figure out your next move. 

His favorite deserts are chocolate cupcakes. 

Papyrus

His name is Stars because he’s the star of Stardin. 

He’s even more popular than Horizon (OT Mettaton) because he’s so much more handsome and is quite the charmer. 

Everyone who meets him fawns over him because of how charismatic he is. 

If life was a high school cliche, then Stars would be categorized as the popular jock, though he is by far not dumb, nor is he arrogant. 

 Stars is respectful and kind to everyone he meets, even if they are rude to him, and as much as people love him, there are an equal amount of people who hate him out of jealousy. 

Once, someone was sick of how popular he was, so they covered a rock in snow and threw it at him. Being a member of the Royal Guard and having years of training, Stars caught the “snowball” and warned the attacker that doing such thing is very dangerous and someone could get hurt. Even though attacking a member of the Guard is illegal, Stars lets him off with a warning as long as the attacker tries to be a better person. 

Because Stars practically has a fan club following him around at all times, he takes solace in Stardin’s forrest. He loves climbing the trees and getting a clear view of the cosmos. 

He loves looking at the Fish Hook Nebula, a cloud of pink helium in the shape of a fish hook, formed from a star that exploded 200 light years ago. 

Stars whole heartedly believes in soul mates, and “The One”. He has  a lot of suitors who want him, but none of them feels right yet. 

To him, “The One” isn’t someone who idolizes him, someone who can look past his Prince Charming act and sees his flaws as well as accept him.
