A sequel to THIS Steddie ficlet but you don't really have to have read it.
Nancy finishes up signing her name with a flourish on the inside of the greeting card she’d bought for Robin for Valentine’s Day. She sets her red sparkly gel pen down on the desk and admires her work. Excellent. Perfectly balanced cursive writing and not a mistake in sight. Poetic and just a little naughty - nothing like Eddie’s card that she had had the displeasure of seeing in full view on the floor of Family Video.
At least it was spirited, unique and honest.
But her card still feels like it’s missing something.
She lifts the card to her lips and stops just short of leaving a lipstick stain on it. Robin probably won’t like that. She’d say something about someone having their mouth all over her Valentine’s Day card, even if it is her own girlfriend.
She looks around at her dresser and contemplates spraying the card with perfume. But she scrunches her nose, thinking Robin probably wouldn’t like a strong scent coming from it either. Turning back to her desk, she decides on a few hand-drawn flowers sprinkled over the inside of the card. Robin will surely give her something handmade (as she always does).
Using a pink marker pen, Nancy carefully surrounds her writing with daisies in varying sizes, the easiest flower for her to draw somewhat competently. As she goes, she inches closer and closer to the surface of her desk, tongue poking out in concentration as she begins adding a peppering of little stars too.
“Um, Nancy?”
She makes what can only be described as a mouse-like squeak noise at the sound of Mike’s interruption. She clutches the marker in her hand, stopping herself from smearing it across Robin’s card. She carefully lifts her hand from the cardstock and clips the cap safely onto the pink marker before spinning around to find Mike lingering at her bedroom door.
“What?” she asks, unable to hide her frustration.
“Are you leaving yet?” he asks, bounding into her bedroom and looking like he's rearing to go somewhere.
Somewhere that presumably requires her to drive him.
“Soon,” she says, giving her brother a tight-lipped, sarcastic smile.
“Can you drive me to Hop’s?” he asks, picking at the bottom seam of his Hellfire shirt.
“Spending the evening with Will, are we?” she teases.
Mike groans and flops back on her bed, sending a pink decorative cushion toppling off the edge where it wedges itself between the mattress and side table.
“I have a card to give him,” he says, staring at the ceiling.
“Good,” she smiles and decides she should probably set aside her card to help out the lump currently sighing and squirming (and messing up the bedspread) on her bed. “You aren’t planning on wearing that, are you?”
Mike rolls onto his stomach to look at her with a look of complete incredulity. Or maybe it’s cluelessness.
Admittedly, that came out meaner and more accusatory than she meant it.
She sighs. Of course, Mike doesn’t know that on Valentine's Day maybe he shouldn’t wear his nerd uniform.
“Just… Anything but that,” she says, even though that doesn’t seem to help either.
Her brother just blinks, kicking his feet.
So she stands up with a huff and gestures to the door. Mike stands and looks her up and down, suspicious.
“You are going to help me pick out something?” he asks, dumbfounded. “For Valentine’s Day? To wear to Will’s house?”
“And politely make suggestions about what you could do that doesn’t involve hanging out in an overcrowded cabin reading comic books, yes.”
And that’s how Nancy spends part of her night chauffeuring around Mike and Will. First picking up Robin, negotiating the change of plans with much protest. Then heading out to the Hooper-Byers’ cabin to pick Will up. Then driving them to the diner which the boys had to settle for because there was no way Nancy was going to have them in Enzo’s a table away from her and Robin. And she wasn't giving up any of her money to Mike, either. Nor did she want to drop them off at the pizza parlour which is where she knew Steve and Eddie would be at some point.
She finally pulls into the car park beside Enzo’s and cuts the engine.
“So,” she starts, clicking off her seatbelt and turning to her date, beaming.
“So?” Robin echos, trying to look inside the restaurant windows.
“I have a card for you,” Nancy says and reaches around to fish in the back for her handbag.
She feels around for it and finds it has been kicked under the passenger’s seat.
“Oh no!” she exclaims and Robin whips around, reaching for it with ease.
“What is it?” she asks, mirroring Nancy’s panic as she hands her the bag.
“Your card!” she says, sniffling.
Nancy is a little surprised that she's this upset about it. Even though it’s her own damn fault for leaving a soft-fabric bag in the vicinity of two fidgeting and oblivious fifteen-year-olds. She relents and hands the crinkled envelope to Robin.
She tries not to watch as Robin carefully opens it, looking the card over before flipping it open and reading it.
“Wow,” Robin says after a minute.
“You like it?” she says, wide-eyed and hopeful.
“This is so much better than Eddie’s card,” Robin says, giving a belated shudder.
Nancy tuts and rolls her eyes. Robin was so dramatic about Eddie’s card. Even after Steve read it fully, she couldn’t help herself from both scolding him for its contents and asking him for details.
“Not the reaction I wanted,” Nancy sighs, looking at her feet.
She looks over the floor mats and thinks about how her car is in desperate need of a cleaning as she scuffs a pebble under her flats. She only breaks away from her stray thought as Robin shuffles through the ridiculously large handbag at her feet.
“Here!” she declares, holding up a crumpled envelope in victory and promptly hands it over. “Eddie, I loathe to admit, inspired a similarly flirtatious greeting card. Although mine is far less eloquent than yours. Somewhere between the obscenity of Poet Munson and Romanticist Wheeler.”

face it, tiger.
(or, a spider-robin story - a spin on the "upside down" ronancetober prompt)
“No, I mean who are you. Under the mask.” Robin perches on the ledge of the balcony of Nancy’s apartment, putting a good distance between them. “That’s for me to know, and for you to never find out.” Nancy’s frown deepens into a scowl. Sirens sound in the distance—perfect timing. “Well,” Robin stands. “That’s my cue. See ya around, princess.” It rolls off her tongue with ease now, and she figures that she might as well double down. She gives Nancy a two fingered salute, before swinging from the balcony and towards the sirens. “This isn’t over!” yells Nancy. Robin smiles to herself. This is going to be fun.

Day Six of @steddie-week - true / misunderstandings / you looking at me looking at you
find the previous day here :)
Three years.
Three beautiful years with Steve, and Eddie knew there was no coming back from this love.
They’d been through everything together, they relied on each other, they needed each other. There was nothing more beautiful than their goddamned love and Eddie was sure of it.
Eddie knew what kind of a guy his boyfriend was. He’s a family man. He's made a family of the Munsons, he’s made one with Buckley, he’s made one with all the little sheepies, and he’s made one of them all. Every Christmas, every birthday, every Easter, and even every Halloween they spend it together, doing things that families usually do on those days. Steve grew up with absent parents and no one to call his family, not really, and so he made family of anyone he could now. Eddie loved him terribly for it.
Steve wanted a family, he wanted a future with kids and a Winnerbego and a house with a kitchen big enough to cook a feast in and a garden out the back. Eddie was already in the process of saving for one, though, Steve didn’t know that. He wanted it to be a surprise in a few years time. When they’re ready to upgrade from their little apartment, and Steve suggests they start saving for a home, Eddie would have the money ready for them. He wanted to give Steve everything, and he knew he’d never be able to do that, so he’d have to settle for a damn house instead.
Eddie couldn’t give Steve the life he’d always dreamed of as a kid, he knew that, they both did. He couldn’t give Steve a wife, or birth his children, and things like that, but he could give him everything else. He could give him love, and a life, and family… and a house.
Three years and Eddie knew Steve was all he needed in life.
He’d been talking to Wayne and Scott about it, about what this means. Wayne had been seeing Scott for years, since Eddie’s freshman year, officially, but they’d been pining over eachother since the first parent teacher interview Eddie had in his first year of middle school. A year before the world almost ended, they’d bought matching rings and had a small celebration with the ones they loved, and made a life long promise.
Eddie wanted to make that promise with Steve.
Eddie also wanted to buy a house for Steve as soon as possible, but… some things would have to wait, because now he was about a grand short in his savings because he’d impulsively gone and bought them matching rings. Eddie’s a silver band with a gold strip through the middle, and Steves a gold band with a silver strip the same. They both had the others inital engraved on the inside.
When he told Wayne and Scott, Wayne almost shed a tear, and Scott cried as if he was the one recieving the damn thing.
He was going to do it tonight, after their anniversary dinner. He had a plan. He was going to leave the ring in a box on Steve's pillow, so when they get in and go to bed (for whatever reason) he’d find it. No smushy public declarations of love- that wasn’t Eddie’s style. He wanted it to be simple and private. Something just for them.
Eddie put in on the pillow after Steve left for work this morning - he was doing placement at Hawkins Middle School, and then Eddie left for work. They were going to meet at the restaurant since they both had to work late tonight.
He couldn’t help his excitement all day.
He decided to surprise Steve on his lunch break and bring him a sub from the place he loved across the road from the mechanic Eddie worked at. He walked through the halls with a smile, dodging rushing children as he walked to his boyfriends - soon fience - classroom, knowing he likes to have lunch in their with Robin, who’s doing placement for teaching French too. They often work on lesson plans and cool things for the kids whilst they eat and gossip together.
Eddie stopped before he walked into the classroom, hiding around the corner as he listened to Steves voice echoing out.
“Three years, Robin!”
Eddie felt his heart swell.
“I can’t believe it’s been three years.”
“Neither.” He sighed.
“Nancy and I will have our two years in a couple of months.”
“Time is crazy- and, you know, I didn’t think I could love him anymore, and then thismorning he woke me up with bluberry pancakes and an iced coffee- not the instant kind, either. He got up an hour early to teach himself how to make it for me, Robbie.”
Eddie bit his lip, ducking his head as he suddenly felt a little shy.
“Three years is serious.”
“Yeah, I know.” Steve sighed, “I’ve been thinking about it… about us, a lot.”
“Oh.”
“About our life, and shit…”
“Oh?” Robin perked up, “Like… kids and shit?”
“Yeah.” Steve said.
Eddie swallowed. They hadn’t talked about this before, not really. But Eddie knew they loved each other, and would do what they could with what they had. Or… that’s what he’d thought anyway. He thought their love was enough.
“I’ve always had this dream of-”
“Of a wife and six kids in a Winnebego?” Robin snorted, “Yes, I’m well aware. You know, I’m committed to the woman you told that dream too, once upon a time.”
“Yeah, well, don’t worry. I don’t see her in it anymore.”
 “Better not.” Robin said.
“But… I dunno. Eddie can’t really give me that.” Steve said simply, and Eddie didn’t think those six simple words could tear open his heart, but they did. They fucking broke him, “He can’t give me normal.”
Normal?
What… what even was normal? What part of any of their relationship been normal? They got together because an alternate-fucking-dimention forced them together where Eddie almost died! How was any of that normal?
Maybe Eddie’s love wasn’t good enough for Steve. Fuck, it was good enough for Eddie. But he supposed he didn’t have these big dreams about family. He wanted one with Steve, sure, he wanted to give Steve whatever he wanted. But… but Eddie wasn’t enough for Steve. Eddie wasn’t normal enough for Steve.
Eddie couldn’t be here right now, or he’d probably do something he’d really regret. So he ran. He headed back to work and had a horrible feeling in his gut for the rest of his shift. As he cleaned himeself up and changed into the nicer clothes he’d bought in the cramped bathroom of the mechanic shop, he prepared himself for heartbreak.
Steve was going to leave him, despite still being in love, because Eddie just wasn’t enough for him. Eddie just wasn’t normal enough.
–
 “Better not.” Robin said.
“But… I dunno. Eddie can’t really give me that.” Steve said with a shrug of his shoulders, “He can’t give me normal.”
“Steve, you did not just say that.” Robin said behind her fork.
“I mean, like… normal, as in the heteronormative dream I’ve always had and been conditioned to want for most of my life.” Steve sighed and stabbed at his pasta, “I don’t really want that anymore, is what I’m trying to say. Like… the six kids and a wife on my arm? No way, man.”
“Okay…”
“Eddie is the farthest thing from normal that I’ve ever experienced, and I just… I love it. I fucking love him, and I wouldn’t have it any other way, you know?” He shook his head with a fond smile, “Eddie can’t legally give me marriage- though, I’ve been thinking abou that and I might ask him to marry me anyway-”
“Steve… no way.” Robin slapped his shoulder, “Really?”
“Mhm… I’m thinking his birthday. So… that gives me a couple of months to save up for a ring.”
“Make me your maid of honour.”
“Obviously.” Steve shook his head at her, “But anyway, he can’t marry me, or like… give birth to my children, or anything, but I don’t care. Like, he’s everything to me… he’s more than enough.”
“You sap.” Robin smiled and shoved some salad into her mouth.
Steve blushed slightly and laughed, “And like, I’ve got the kids- even though theyre all about to become adults very soon which is sickening to think about, and… and I’ve got these kids for now, and next year if I get this job, I’ll get my own class of kids, and that’s plenty, you know?”
“Yeah.”
“And he and I can roadtrip- the last one we took was one of the best weeks of my life, Robbie-”
“I know. You tell me all the time.” She smiled.
“I dunno. I’ve just been thinking about my future a lot, and I’ve just realised I’m very happy and wouldn’t want it any other way.”
“I’m so happy for you, dingus.” She nudged their shoulders together.
“Yeah… me too.”
–
Eddie got to dinner like, ten minutes late.
First, he sat on his bike for about five full minutes before starting the engine because he was procrastinating the inevitable. Then when he finally did start to dive, he went about five under the speed limit opposed to his usual ten over. And third, when he pulled up at the restaurant, he spent a good couple of minutes just sitting there, staring through the window at Steve sitting at their table for two, still dressed in his work clothes, the sleeves of his blue and purple button up rolled to his elbows and his dorky teacher glasses that Eddie loved sitting on his nose. He looked so nervous, bouncing his knee, tapping his fingers on the table and constantly checking the time on his watch. Eddie felt bad for making him wait, but he just couldn’t do it. He wasn’t ready to be without Steve. He just wanted to go home-
Home.
Would he go home? Would they go home together still?
What would any of this mean?
Eddie was ready to take the next step forward, and Steve wanted to take two steps back.
Steve turned his head to look out the window, and fuck he was seen. No running now. Steve waved at him with a little smile, a smile Eddie usually melted for, but tonight he hated.
He pulled his helmet off and climbed off of the bike he’d traded the van in for last year.
Steve did not like it at first. It scared him. But then Eddie convinced Steve he could do it safely. He just loved the feeling of the wind in his hair and having the freedom like that, plus it was so cool. And after Eddie took Steve for a little joyride, and Steve realised he could koala off of Eddie’s back and press himself into the shape of Eddie the whole time, he started to like it a little.
He’d also said, on multiple occasions, when Eddie rocked up somewhere on it, that he looked like “the very definition of a wet dream on that damn thing”. And he’d love it when Eddie would take off the helmet and shake his hair out and give Steve a little grin. He’d always come up and grab his face and just kiss him silly. He’d tell him how hot he thought he was. Sometimes he’d ask Eddie to take him for a spin. One time they fucked on the bike, which was… so cool.
Oh fuck. Eddie wouldn’t be able to look at the bike without thinking of Steve now, let alone ride it.
He’d have to sell it.
Goodbye cool dream, hello eternal loneliness.
Shit. It was going to be like that with most things, wasn’t it?
“Hi, baby.” Steve said, pulling Eddie into a hug before sitting back down.
“Hi.” Eddie swallowed and sat down across from him, he picked up the menu immediately.
“Uh…” Steve shuffled a little closer in his seat and leant his elbows on the table, “Happy anniversary.”
Eddie glanced up with a smile, “Yeah, you too.”
Fuck, he wanted to cry.
There was silence for a moment before Steve ducked his head, “How was your day? Did you figure out the issue with Ms. Disillas’s Bug?”
Eddie shook his head, “Still a mystery.”
Steve nodded, “I had a good day.”
“Mhm.” Fuck you.
“Uh… one of the girls in the class I’m working in- Katie, she… she made this for our anniversary.” He slid a little three dimensional paper heart across the table, “Artsy little kid.”
“You told the class?” Eddie asked, flopping his menu down.
“Ah, no…” Steve poked his glasses to shove them back up his nose, and Eddie had to fight off the immediate urge to smile and call him pretty, “Just… she knows because she heard me and Rob’s talking about it today.”
So did I, Eddie thought, “Cool.”
Steve nodded slowly, “You hungry?”
“Yep.” Eddie sighed and looked at the menu again.
“You wanna share?” Steve asked, “I can’t decide between a few things.”
 “Whatever.” Eddie said.
Steve hesitated before saying, “O- okay.”
They looked at the menus for a little longer in silence, and then when Steve suggested a couple of items, Eddie just nodded his head and agreed. A waiter took their order and they were left in silence again.
“I got an A on my last assessment.” Steve said with a smile, “It’s looking good, for me to get my own class next year, I mean… full time.”
Eddie was so proud of him. God, so fucking proud. And if he wasn’t about to get his heart broken, he’d be over there, smoothing Steve with kisses, not giving a damn who looked their way.
“That’s great.”
“Are- are you okay, Eddie?” Steve swallowed.
He felt bad for putting Steve on edge like this, but he just couldn’t fucking do it.
“No.”
Steve’s eyebrows raised a little, and he nodded, “O- okay… what’s the matter, baby-”
“This relationship is about to be over. That is my problem.”
Steve flinched back, “What?”
“I’m not what you need.” Eddie said, in full defence mode, “I’m not what you need, and were fucking over. How do you expect me to be okay, Steve?”
“You’re not-”
“No, I’m not.” Eddie shook his head, “I’m a fucking Freak.”
“Eddie.” Steve pressed with a shake of his head, “Wh- where is this coming from?”
“Don’t act like you don’t know.” Eddie lent forward, “I know you love me, but I also know I’m not what you need.”
Steve blinked a few times, and Eddie hated his goddamn glasses because they magnified Steve's teary eyes. It crushed Eddie, to hurt Steve like this, but Steve was hurting him too.
“I’m not letting this go on any longer, I can’t… I can’t deal with it.” Eddie shook his head, because he felt sick. How was he supposed to sit through an entire dinner with Steve knowing he was about to be dumped, “I can’t, Steve. I can’t do this.”
He pressed a hand over his mouth and tried to will away his tears because he couldn’t just fucking breakdown in the middle of a packed restaurant.
“You can’t do this?” Steve asked, “You… so we’re- we’re over?”
Eddie swallowed the lump in his throat, and he was crying, “Yeah… yeah, I guess we fucking are.”
“Uhm…” Steve took a shaky breath and wiped a tear from his eye, “That’s it?”
Eddie shrugged and looked away.
“Three years for… for nothing.”
Eddie hated everything so much.
Not for nothing. Never for nothing.
But… but Steve thinks it’s for nothing?
God, fuck, this hurts more than he thought it would.
“I still love you… so- so fucking much, Stevie.” Eddie sobbed, refusing to look at him because he just couldn’t. But he needed Steve to know this. He needed Steve to know he was loved, despite the pain he was causing, “I always fucking will.”
“I still love you too.” Steve croaked.
Eddie couldn’t do this, “Yeah.” He stood, “I- I need to… I can’t be here.”
“Well- where… where will you go?” Steve stood too.
“I dunno.” Because he didn’t.
He kinda just wanted to get on his bike and drive, and never fucking stop until he was dead.
Steve swallowed, “Give… give me ten minutes to pack some things.” He wouldn’t look at Eddie now either, “Rob and Nance have a spare room.”
Eddie nodded, even though that sounded like a shit idea because that meant he had to sleep in the apartment with all of their things. Things Eddie thought he might start burning if left alone with too long tonight. But he didn’t have the energy or power to say anything else. He couldn’t let Steve know just how deeply this hurt.
Steve stood there for a moment, and Eddie didn’t look at him, and then Steve left. Eddie turned away from the doors and held his breath for a bit, trying his best not to fucking break down. When he saw Steve’s car pull out of the car park, he made a beeline for his bike and shattered.
He got on, and went for a drive, and didn’t stop driving until he ended up back at their little apartment.
–
Steve was… well, he didn’t know what he was feeling.
Eddie had… he’d just broken up with Steve, because apparently he “wasn’t what Steve needed”, whatever fucking bullshit that meant. But… fuck, Steve was thinking about marrage, and a future, and a life together, and Eddie wanted to end things. He couldn’t bring himself to fight it.
Maybe tomorrow. Tonight though, tonight he’d go pack a bag, and knock on Robin's door crying, and drop into her arms and let himself be held about it. He’d feel his heart break and his world be ripped from under him. Then tomorrow, he’d let the girls talk some sense into him and he’d go find Eddie for a fight. And they’d scream and cry and either Steve would convince him he was fucking stupid and get him back, or he’d leave there more broken than he’d ever been before.
He really hoped it wasn’t going to be that last one, but he also knew how damn stubborn Eddie could be, and when he got something in his head, it wasn’t fucking changing.
He pulled up across the street from their place, rather than parking in the garage since he’d be leaving so soon, and hurried inside. He really didn’t want to bump into Eddie on his way out.
He stormed through the house down to their little room, and Steve tried his best not to break more than he already was. He grabbed a bag from their wardrobe and started shoving clothes into it, just enough for a couple of nights. He moved to the bathroom and started tossing in toiletries before heading to the kitchen to grab his migraine medications. He stopped still when he saw the pan in the sink from the pancakes Eddie had made him this morning. He bit down on his hand and dropped to the floor crying.
How could he do this?
In one day. How could he go from making Steve pancakes and iced coffee in bed and smothering him in kisses and… other things that made Steve have a very good morning, to… to deciding Steve didn’t need him anymore and dumping him? How the fuck does that even happen?
Steve felt sick.
He rushed to the bathroom and spilled his guts into the toilet bowl.
After cleaning himself up a bit and calming down well enough, he went into their - well, no longer their - room to change because he didn’t want to be in these clothes anymore. He didn’t want to wear the shirt that Eddie dumped him in. He wanted to burn it.
He shucked off his shoes and pants and tossed the shirt as far as he could, and pulled on the first t-shirt he found that wasn’t Eddies, and he hated how much it still smelt like him. He walked over to his bedside, whilst he remembered, and grabbed his eyedrops and the case for his glasses and hearing aid and-
He picked up the little box that sat on his pillow. It wasn’t there this morning. Eddie must have gotten him a present, even though they said they wouldn’t do that.
He opened the box slowly to see the edge of a gold ring- he slammed the box shut. It was the ring he gave Eddie on their second anniversary, wasn’t it? A ring his grandpa had given him before he died, one of the few people in Steve's family he actually missed, it was one he’d found the day he got shipped home from the war and promised to see his wife again. Called it his good luck charm. After Steve found Eddie, he didn’t think his luck could get any better, and he’d slipped it onto Eddie’s finger that night whilst he was sleeping. Eddie was his good luck charm. But it was here, in this box now wasn’t it. No longer slung on a chain around Eddie’s neck (because it was too special to wear to the shop and fuck up and he didn’t wear gold rings), worn every day. Now it was in this box, given back to Steve.
Steve reached a hand up and brushed his fingers over the pic that lay around his neck, the one Eddie always wore, his very first pic he’d ever owned. He’d given it to Steve after one of their worst fights within the first year, when Eddie kicked and screamed and couldn’t bear to have Steve around trying to make him better. When he just wanted to neglect the world and be alone and grieve and blame himself for all the blood spilt around him. After Eddie had collapsed into his arms and apologised for all of the horrible things he’d said to Steve, and how he loved him more than anything and promised he’d never mean those things. He’d given Steve the necklace as a promise. A promise that no matter what, he’d love Steve with everything he had, and that he needed him.
That promise felt so small right now.
Steve couldn’t bring himself to take it off. Not right now. He just wanted to wear it for another minute.
He closed his eyes and opened the little box to take the ring back, but what he saw inside wasn’t the gold band he’d see resting on Eddie’s chest every night before bed. It was a different one, with a silver strip through the middle, and on the inside, looking up to him, was a small ‘E’ engraved into the gold.
He heard the door click open, and swing shut, and Eddie’s heavy footsteps carried through the apartment. Steve couldn’t bring himself to move. So he stood there, in a tshirt and his underwear, staring at this ring with Eddie’s initial that was left on his pillow, on their anniversary, feeling absolutely confused.
Eddie was glad Steve's car wasn’t in the garage. That meant he was gone, and Eddie wouldn't have to face him again. He didn’t think he could face him again, he might just shatter and end up a broken heap on the ground.
He marched into the apartment and tossed his helmet onto the sofa, and headed for the bedroom. He couldn’t stay here, not tonight. He was going to grab a few things and knock on his uncle's door. Being here made him feel sick.
He pushed open the door and stopped dead in his tracks, because there by the bed, stood Steve.
There stood Steve with the ring Eddie had bought him in hand.
Fuck.
He was crying again, “You said ten minutes.”
Steve looked up and blinked with wet eyes, “Has it been ten minutes?”
“I don’t know.” Eddie said, his voice high pitched and almost a whine, “I can’t do this.”
“Me either.” Steve sobbed, “You think this is easy for me?”
“No.” Eddie pressed a hand over his mouth and took in a shallow breath.
“What is this?” Steve held up the box.
Eddie couldn’t look at it. He couldn’t look at Steve. He wanted to disappear. He wanted the ground to open up again and swallow him whole.
“Eddie.” Steve pressed, moving the box into his eyeline, “What is this?”
Eddie swallowed and looked down at Steve's feet, “It’s an engagement ring.”
Steve's breath hitched, “You- you bought me an engagement ring?”
Eddie nodded and started wailing, “I want a life with you, Stevie. I fucking love you.”
“So why’d you dump me?”
“Because I couldn’t sit through a whole dinner or longer- I couldn’t… I couldn’t lay in bed with you tonight knowing you didn’t want this.”
“Want what, Eddie?”
“Me!” He choked out, his face hot, and he looked at Steve and he looked just as broken as Eddie, “I’m not what you need.”
Steve shook his head and wiped at his tears, but it was useless, because they just kept falling, “Why do you think that?”
“You said it.” Eddie sniffled, “I heard you- you… I’m not normal.”
 “What?”
“Today…” He spluttered, “I- I went to visit you at lunch and bring you the meatball sub you like, and I heard you and Robin talking.”
Steve took a little step back, “What?” He swallowed, “What do you think I said?”
“That I’m not normal.” Eddie sobbed, “That I can’t give you the life you’ve always dreamed about.”
Steve went silent.
Eddie looked away and cried some more, “I heard- you… you said that, and I just… I couldn’t bear to hear anymore, so I left, and I spent all afternoon on the brink of a breakdown over it. I- thought I was enough. I thought what we have- had was enough for you, but- but I didn’t want to- I didn’t want to stop you from having the life you need. Even if it’s fucking without me.”
“Oh my god.” Steve whined and rushed up to Eddie, cupping his cheeks, the ring box smushing into one of them, “You’re so dumb.”
“Not fucking helping.” Eddie spluttered, trying to look away, but Steve wouldn’t let him.
“You idiot- Oh, I love you.”
Eddie cried so hard he couldn’t breathe, “I love you so much- pl- please don’t do this.”
Steve shook his head, “You’re a terrible eavesdropper.” He licked his pretty lips, “If you’d just listened for a minute longer you would have heard me tell Robin that I don’t want normal, anymore. I haven’t since you stepped into my life, you beautiful fucking idiot.”
Eddie stopped breathing, “What?”
“I want you.” Steve smiled, “I don’t want anything normal, as long as I can have you. You are everything to me, love.”
“But- but I can’t… I can’t marry you, or give you kids-”
“I’ve got the sheepies.” Steve shook his head with the warmest of smiles, and Eddie felt his heart start to beat again, “I’ve got the kids I’m teaching. I don’t need them, when I have you- plus, as the kids get older I’ll have the opportunity to be an uncle.”
“You don’t-”
“I do.” Steve muttered, “And this…” he shook the ring box, “It’s closer than close enough.”
Eddie sobbed and pressed his forehead against Steves, probably with a little too much aggression because it hurt the both of them, but they also didn’t care.
“If you’d listened a little longer, you would have heard me telling Robin I planned on buying one of these for your birthday.”
Eddie’s back straightened up and he looked at Steve very carefully, “You were?”
“Yeah- I mean… if I could afford one by then, but- well, now I don’t have too.” Steve smiled and Eddie let himself melt this time. He could melt. He was fucking mush, “Well… are you going to ask me, dumbass?”
Eddie laughed softly and took the ring box from Steve, plucked out the ring with very shaky fingers. Steve placed his hands over Eddie’s, warm and calming. Eddie glanced up at Steve, and Steve was giving him that look that meant he was very in love.
Oh, you don’t know how fucking good that look made Eddie feel right now.
Eddie held the ring between two fingers and took a deep breath, and it was a little shaky from crying so much, and he hated how sad they both looked whilst this was happening, but it was happening, and he was very grateful it could.
“Will you- well, fuck, you can’t… not legally so- well,” Eddie sniffled and smiled sadly, “will you pretend marry me, Stevie?”
Steve spluttered and laughed, his hand just as shaky as he held it out for Eddie, and he was crying again, “Yeah- yeah I’ll fucking pretend marry you.” Eddie slipped the ring onto his finger, “It will be real to us, I promise.”
Eddie sobbed and held Steve's hand tight. He dropped the ring box, not caring about it anymore, and lifted Steve's knuckles to his lips to kiss, “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Steve cried and cradled Eddie’s face again, “You’re a fucking mess.”
Eddie laughed wetly and leant into Steve’s hold, “You’re my fiance.”
Steve nodded and wiped away Eddie’s tears, “Next time you overhear me and Robin talking, and you think I want to break up with you… don’t think that.”
“Okay.” Eddie promised, because he’d never make that horrible mistake again, “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry, baby.” Steve ran his hands down the sides of Eddie’s neck and lay them on his chest, “It’s okay now.”
Eddie nodded and reached out for Steve's hips, pulling him in close. Steve's eyes were fixed on the ring on his finger, and he looked very happy to see it there.
“I’m your fiance.” Steve muttered.
“Yeah?” Eddie croaked, because he was still fucking crying, but it was mostly happy tears now.
“Yeah.” Steve smiled, his cheeks red and his eyes swollen, but his smile was still the brightest thing Eddie had ever seen.
Steve leant up to kiss him, and it was a good kiss. It was a very good kiss. It felt so full of love, and hope, and promise.
It was a promise that they’d love eachother forever.
“I’m so sorry, my Angel.” Eddie muttered against his lips, “I’m so-”
“I know, Eddie.” Steve held him by the jaw gently, and they started to sway together, “I know.”
Eddie nudged their noses together, “Not a very happy anniversary.”
“It’s the happiest one in my books.” Steve sniffled and smiled, “So… does this mean we're back together?”
Eddie laughed and kissed him again, “If you’ll have me, sweetheart.”
Steve slung his arms over Eddie’s shoulders and kissed him harder, “I’ll always have you, love.”

(ronance, robin(/a lil bit stobin too)-centric, side steddie fic idea)
So I'll probably at this point will never write this idea but I still wanted to share it with the fandom so I'll just dump my ramblings abt it here
I've been toying with the idea of actually nancy falling for Robin first and also Robin's queer adolescence and how Robin's trauma goes into her relationships
Specifically her relationship with Vicky
I just want her to care? To feel like the world is breaking because it's her first relationship??? like i want her to try and try to make this relationship work and still it doesn't because vicky wanted a clumsy cute normal girl and robin is all of that but also, also she wakes up in the middle of the night screaming, there are days where she needs to keep holding steve's hand to be okay, to remind themselves that they are real and here and alive and she has a group of people that she's very codependent with, a group of people that vicky will never fully be absorbed with and like all of this is fine if it's something vicky could take but she doesn't want and she doesn't have to!! but like it still hurts robin deeply because vicky is kind and she likes her back and she's her first love and to lose that slowly, to see vicky get overwhelmed with all of this is killing robin, it's making her feel even more broken and it hurts but also, it's just how things go
sometimes you fall in love and you get loved back and it still doesn't work out
it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt tho
so i just want her to care i want her to be hurt deeply in a way only first relationships hurt
Like I want Vicky and Robin to be cute and together and I want Robin to like her so fucking much and I want it to fail anyway because that's how it sometimes is no matter how smitten Robin is, how much they want it to work and it hurts, it hurts because it's unfair and it hurts because it's just how it goes and there is also just nothing special about it
And like Robin understands, but it hurts and it feels like there is just one more wrong thing with her, before she couldn't connect with people because of her being a lesbian and now when she found a girl that likes her she can't connect with her because of her trauma and it feels unfair, so fucking unfair
And at the beginning from Robin's side Ronance is platonic because she's preoccupied with Vicky and also because Nancy is Robin's first female friend
The thing is that Robin has grown up weird, it's like everybody could smell the queer on her before she could even understand it herself and so at first ronance from robin's pov is just a lot of being grateful for having a girl friend, for experiencing girl nights and sleepovers and Nancy doesn't make her feel like a freak and it feels safe and girly in a way Robin has never allowed herself to feel, always just too uncomfortable around girls even before she knew why, so she's kind of reliving her girlhood and honestly i think she deserves it
Meanwhile Nancy in the background is just working through her compulsory heterosexuality and figuring out she's a lesbian and she has been halfway in love with Robin since the Creel thing
Also I feel like Vicky would try to be supportive but she wouldn't get it but Nancy does
i have this scene
in my mind
like robin's nightmares are fine for vicky, it's when she's waking up all panicky and she needs steve in a way Vicky just doesn't get why, it's not that she doesn't try to be supportive but she doesn't get it
but one night when robin sleeps over at nancy's and she wakes up with steve's name on her lips, she gets nancy's hand on her back drawing small circles, little movement reminding her she's not alone and nancy calling steve on the walkie, not because robin asked but because nancy knew it was what robin needed, robin fell asleep again with nancy's arms around her and steve's voice on the walkie that night
and then in the morning nancy is like "don't mention it, sometimes i need to call jon, just to hear his voice, i understand the need" bc i'm a firm believer that jonathan is to nancy what steve is to robin and i will take no criticism (but i will accept that it might also be eddie and not jonathan but like also they are both her bestfriends you honor)
but robin is like feeling this queer dissonance bc she still doesn't know nancy isn't straight and it's like, yeah, but it's different. It's always different for me. you call jonathan because he's your boyfriend, that's what couples do, i call steve because he's an extension of me i didn't knew was walking outside of my body before i found him and suddenly i was whole again, i don't want to ever kiss him but i want to spent my life with him but she doesn't say that, because nancy might be kind and understanding, but she still was nancy the priss wheeler and robin doesn't want to lose girls' nights and sleepovers in one bed and this easy friendship because she's different again, so she just smiles and later when steve arrives to pick her up she cries in his shoulder
Like this scene is mostly a foreshadowing of how much Nancy fits and gets it
Also Steve and Robin platonic soulmates supremacy so a lot if this is also platonic soulmates stobin because Robin realizes she's going to leave for college soon and she doesn't want to leave without Steve, even if he won't be alone in hawkings bc he has the kids and Eddie (bc Eddie lives, ofc, i'm not killing my baby, lmao, also there is a steddie sideplot, imma talk abt it in a second)
But Steve is hers and she is Steve's first and she doesn't want to leave him, can't imagine, feels like leaving half of her body and it's not fair, but also can't take it upon herself to ask him to leave with her because she doesn't think she can handle it if he says no
And so like the fic would starts in late April/early may and Robin is trying so hard with holding the ones she has so close because she's going to leave and she's trying to grasp on the last crumbles of her teenage years and onto her relationship with Vicky and throughout all of this Nancy is this constant that just is there, steady, safe and becoming actually one of her best friends
And it surprises her, because it was easy to be friends with Eddie once they bonded over being gay and also caring for Steve, it was somewhat comfortable to have a budding relationship with Jonathan and Argyle, caring for the kids came with caring for Steve because they are somewhat also a part of him and he is part of her so they are also hers but Nancy always was so unreachable, so far away so untouchable, except she wasn't
Except she was there inviting Robin to sleepovers and over milkshakes and stupid diners and going over college application with her and talking about Steve and Jonathan and Eddie with fondness because these are their boys and somehow Nancy has become an integral part of Robin's life
And so a lot of the first part of the fic is Robin trying to hold onto all those things before she moves to college
And then Vicky breaks up with Robin in the middle of july, and it's a nice weather, Robin wishes it was raining and the thing is that even when breaking up with her Vicky is just so sweetly nice, so perfect and Robin wishes she could hate her, that she could be mad, but she only feels sad, so incredibly fucking sad, it feels like something that she saw coming, because she did, she knew it was going to end like this, but even when breaking up with her Vicky wasn't mean, was nice enough to tell Robin, to lie, she just doesn't want to do long distance
it's when Steve is comforting her abt the break up that Robin ask him to come with her, she already had her heart ripped out once today, it's a little bit self-destructing, it's maybe her punishing herself for her codependency that in her eyes cost her her relationship, but he says yes, is ecstatic, because wherever she goes he won't hesitate to follow, they are a package deal after all, somehow they also rope Eddie into it and it makes sense, it makes sense to leave with both Steve and Eddie that have become such vital parts of her, steve is an extension of her outside of her body, but Eddie is someone who understands and fits between the spaces that she and Steve leave behind seamlessly, it would make sense to leave and take them with her
quiet interlude to explain the steddie side plot because it's now kind of necessary
so i have this in mind that like steve knows he's bi before the whole vecna, he figured it out with robin after starcourt
and robin already feels like having one other queer person in hawkings is extraordinary but then vecna happens and eddie joins the crew, eddie with his bandana, eddie with his big boy and chains and jokes and attitude and robin and steve argue back and forth if he is queer or not, while also steadily forming a friendship with him and it's just robin wants him to be so bad, because a part of her feels like eddie understands the queer parts of her that steve bless him never could, bc steve somehow could hide behind the heteronormality but robin and eddie never had a choice, they were always too weird, too different for that, but robin is afraid, it's steve, brave steve that ends up coming out to eddie first in a comment that he plays of as nonchalant but robin sees right through him, he's afraid and yet, and yet he barrels through, holds himself under eddie's gaze and is brave because that what steve is, brave
and so they're my three queer best friends and i love them
Also this is once again me pushing Steve is a brave, beautiful boi agenda
and robin sees how eddie looks at steve and steve at eddie and she thinks that maybe steve just is oblivious (i mean after they all came out to each other, thanks to steve) but then she talks to steve about it
and the thing is that steve knows that eddie wants him, that he's attracted to him, but steve actually fucking likes eddie, might actually fucking love him
and after the whole being bullshit and all the girls that went out with him because they wanted king steve and not steve he doesn't know, doesn't trust himself to know if eddie likes him the same way
He doesn't trust himself to not be bullshit again
and eddie is a bit of coward, like let's face it, that boy is ready to pine his whole life for steve harrington if it gets him to just exist in his space
and so steve just doesn't let himself have this
because he would rather to have him as a friend than an ex-hookup and he couldn't have handled it if that's all what eddie wanted to be, so they're like tragically pinning, they're my idiots you honor
So then the summer is ending and so they organize a party to celebrate the last days they have together, the whole party and when there is only a spicy six left Robin, my baby comes out as a lesbian!! And she's so afraid of Nancy's reaction, but Nancy, beautiful, kind, stubborn Nancy just takes her hand and says with a smile that she's glad that she told them and her smile is beautiful, happy and Robin feels like a weight is lifted off of her because now, now she doesn't feel like she might lose her friendship with Nancy too, because she was so afraid that once Nancy will know, it will be the end of them, it's why she waiting until both of them are going away, until the pain of missing her won't be as visible because Nancy isn't supposed to be there with her anyway
So after that
Nancy ofc goes to NY
Robin, Steve and Eddie somehow land in Chicago and my boy Eddie is a mechanic for sure bc i love the idea, Robin ofc will be studying and I haven't decided what Steve will be doing
And Jonathan and Argyle will stay in Hawkins, taking their gap year
Robin thinks it's partly why Steve wasn't as afraid to come with her, knowing Jon will be there keeping an eye on Hawkins, on the kids, because it's not that Steve doesn't trust Joyce and Hopper but he doesn't trust them to call them when things go bad, and kids are always too preoccupied to call when things go wrong and he trust, trusts Jon to call when things go code red in Hawkins, also i think Jon deserves a gap year, let that boy relax please
And so Nancy calls, all of them do actually, the kids and Jonathan with Argyle, I kind of like to think that like sometimes all three Robin and Steve and Eddie are gathered around the phone talking with whoever calls, like Steve is painting Robin's nails while listening to Eddie and Jon arguing about some music thing on the phone while Robin keeps adding her opinion only to stir shit up even more and sometimes it's Eddie and Steve parenting Dustin while Robin just lays next to them doing her school assignments
But Nancy calls when she also knows Robin is just there alone, Nancy calls and asks her about Chicago and college and it's good, it's good talking with her
Also I have this scene in my head where Nancy and Robin talk about Barb, it's late and Robin is alone in the apartment, Eddie and Steve gone somewhere together and Nancy is talking about how sometimes she finds it hard, knowing that Barb probably wouldn't have recognized her now, that she changed, grew up and she isn't the same person that Barb was friends with anymore (my personal headcanon is that Nancy didn't even want to be a journalist before Barb's death, but after seeing how they covered it up, how the press twisted and manipulated the truth she wanted to be the one good one, for Barb, a sense of justice paid to her through others, it's why she wanted the facts for Eddie so hard)
And Robin asks her how she deals with it and Nancy says that she just has to, it won't go anywhere, she won't stop aging, "besides" she says "eddie recently told me something and, don't tell him that, but it was actually pretty smart"
"Impressive for him" Nancy giggles and it's good to know her giggles make her feel the same feeling of accomplishment even through the phone
"Anyway, he told me that we survived so we could change. That we are the lucky ones that get to change, dead people don't change. So it's good, to sometimes, become something new"
And it sticks with Robin and she somehow that leads her to asking Steve to cut her hair even shorter because hair holds memory and she wants to have space for new ones, the good ones, she wants to see them grow (one of this days I will think of a sapphic idea that doesn't involve hair, i swear, but today is not the day) also both Robin and Steve dye a strand of their hair pink, for platonic soulmate unity reasons
so anyway chicago is good, good for her and Steve and Eddie and they're thriving and they're finding queer bars and are growing up, becoming adults together and like Robin manages to hook up with a girl and meet more queer people, grow into herself and there a set backs and bad days, like once a girl started roleplaying a cop as a part of foreplay and asked "where do you work" in a voice that reminded Robin too much of the russians and the torture, she cried for an hour and a half on the girl's floor, before she managed to exhaust herself and only then she managed to give out their number so the girl could call Steve to pick her up, she cried in Stevie's arms the whole night after that because she just felt broken like yes she could move, she could grow up, she could experience new things but the trauma will always be a part of her
and so then! we have like two important seeing nancy moments
one where everybody comes back to hawkings for smh idk if will be holidays or smh or smh different, but even if nancy and robin called on a regular it's the first time she's seeing her since they went away for college and during that time robin finally catches up to nancy and realizes she's in love with her
But she thinks it's hopeless because Nancy hasn't yet came out to Robin (in my mind Eddie helped her in figuring it out during summer, she came out to Jon in the meantime after moving but before this coming home and during the stay in Hawkins she will come out to Steve but it will be unnecessary bc honestly Steve suspected that Nancy liked Robin since fucking the first words of the fic) and so Robin pulls away
Also during this visit is when she asks Wayne how he dealt with dating people after going to war, did he ever manage to separate his trauma and his dating life and he tells her that there are people who will understand and love her with her trauma not despite of her (with like a heavy look towards Nancy bc Uncle Wayne knows what the fuck is up)
Oh also per Chicago being good for the boys, it's where Steve finally allows himself to be loved, it's where they come home to each other, it's where they stay with each other, it's where they slow dance together in the kitchen, it's where Steve realizes that Eddie is here to stay, when Steve tells Robin he kissed Eddie over dinner, they both cry, simply because they are happy, Robin is so glad that Steve finally, finally is happy and healthy and is letting himself be loved how he deserves
and then we have a second time where the whole spicy six gather in New york to celebrate with nancy i'm thinking maybe new year??
and then nancy comes out as a lesbian and like than robin realizes what nancy was doing all this time, she realizes that they are steve and eddie (because eddie has waited, all this time until steve was ready, was right beside him when steve blossomed into someone who could trust that eddie wants him back, eddie waited and nancy... nancy waited too) and it's like the both of them go to bed together ofc and robin has this like feeling of, they had time, they finally have time, and they could take it in whatever pace they want, this like finality of feeling that they are finally on the same page and the rest is like fluff
Also something something Nancy belonging to NY and being even more beautiful somewhere where she is healthy and happy and thriving, something something about rosy cheeks and long coats and frosty kisses
So i guess i just want Robin to like grow into herself and who she is in relationships and have experience and grow comfortable in herself before she let herself love Nancy, i want them to be friends first and also i want the slow burn of it all

Ronancetober Day 5: Multiverse
Tumblr media
different timeline/universe Robin
Somehow Robin woke up next to THE Nancy Wheeler. She knew that she went to bed in her own bed, how did she end up in Wheeler's bedroom? They were strangers, there's no reason for her to be in the same room as Nancy.
Nancy woke up to her girlfriend pulling that face she always did when she's silently panicking. Nancy's eyes slid shut and she muttered, "everything okay, sweetie?" She felt Robin tensed up under her and her breath hitch. She knew the effect she had on Robin and she'd never get tired of it but Robin was reacting weirdly.
"Wh- what is this- what is happening.. Why am I here? Why am I in bed with Nancy, the princess of Hawkins, Wheeler. This has to be a prank, a very sick joke you bullies are pulling ugh-" Robin jumps out of bed, "-unbelievable! Who in the right mind would kidnap me out of my room while I was unconscious!"
"Robin calm down! Lower your volume!"
"Oh I wonder why, I wonder who's behind the door waiting to catch my reaction? Is it Tommy? Hey-"
Nancy cups a hand around Robin's mouth, stopping her mid shout, "shh! You're going to alarm my parents! Please calm down and tell me what are you talking about," Nancy whispered out harshly.
OR
Do Revenge au
Eleanor Levetan woke up in a different bed, not her's or Gabbi's or Drea's. She's sleeping with a girl that.. actually kinda looks like her girlfriend but with curlier hair.
She had no idea what she was wearing but it smelled nice, it smelled like the bedsheets and the girl sleeping next to her. She knew something was wrong, she remembered very clearly falling asleep next to Gabbi. She remembered wearing silk pajamas, not a loose t-shirt and shorts. She never wore rings or dyed her hair back to brunette. She also had no idea who she was sleeping with. She got up as quietly as she could and tried to look for a phone. No phones but she found a phone that she only saw in 80's movies and vintage stores. She didn't know how to use it though. There's only one thing she could do.
"Hey, uhm excuse me?" She lightly nudged the girl.
"What're you doing, Robbie. Everything okay?" She muttered, eyes still shut and her hand reached around, searching for her.
"Uhh I'm not Robbie. You can go back to sleep once I figure out where the hell am I and who the fuck are you."
Nancy was now fully awake to that unusual tone.

Fruity Four Advent Calendar, Day 24: Nativity
Prompt List
Just a quick little ficlet of Nancy trying to finish Holly Wheeler’s contribution for her school’s nativity play. Robin to the rescue! Steve and Eddie are just there being idiots.
I want to say thank youuuu to @unclewaynemunson for putting this advent calendar together. I've had so much fun writing stuff and it has been a nice distraction away from rl Christmas stress. I've got some stuff from prompts I missed out on so I'll be posting those at some point soon too 💖💖💖 🎄🎄🎄
Tumblr media
Eddie, Robin and Steve crowd on the front stoop of the Wheeler's house, shielding themselves from the snow. Eddie rapid-fire knocks, desperately wanting shelter because of course he isn't wearing snow-appropriate attire. Instead opting for his typical leather jacket for a double-date night.
Well, kinda double date. He and Steve were together, but the girls were still awkwardly circling each other even though Nancy broke up with Jonathan Byers months ago with some very vague reasoning. And Robin was still oscillating between being a bumbling lovesick idiot and being Nancy's knight in shining armour.
Nancy opens the door, hair frizzed and looking thoroughly frazzled.
"I was supposed to meet you at the diner!" she exclaims, clutching the clump of tattered fabric in her hands to her chest.
"Yeah, no shit," Eddie says, stepping into the house and narrowly shirking Steve's attempted tug on his jacket.
"Language," she chides, cocking her head in the direction of Holly who practically skips over to greet them.
"Holly," Eddie says, greeting her with a curtsey.
"Have you come to help with my Nativity play?" she beams.
"Holly has her nativity play tomorrow night and she needs a costume. Plus she’s been assigned to make the manger," Nancy explains, talking a mile a minute.
She looks down at the pieces of Holly’s costume in her hands and shakes her head, eyes filled with worry to the point of tears.
"I can help," Robin says, stepping forward with such bravado she might as well be Wonder Woman posing for a hero shot.
"Good idea," the boys say in unison, nodding enthusiastically.
"Will you?" Nancy asks, full of hope.
Robin nods and takes the costume as Nancy sighs with relief. She grabs her other hand and leads Robin into the living room to show her the gluey mess that is the wooden manger sitting on the coffee table, leaving Eddie and Steve to linger in the doorway as Holly follows along too.
"Who is that?" comes Karen Wheeler's voice from the kitchen, soon appearing in the hallway. "Hi boys!"
She gestures for them to step further into the house but Eddie remains close to the front door, twirling a lock of his hair nervously.
"Don't worry Eddie, my dad is at work," Nancy explains as she holds together two wooden slats as Robin runs a hot glue gun along their seams.
At the invitation, Steve rushes over to help even though he is absolutely hopeless with craft emergencies. Hence Robin promptly elbowing him out of the way before resuming her glueing, tongue poking out in concentration.
"We gotta get this in a table," Robin demands, sounding like a doctor performing surgery.
"Don't worry, I won't tell Ted," Karen laughs, blushing at Eddie and heading back into the kitchen.
"He's a vampire that needs like, strict permission to enter when the disapproving father isn't home," Robin mumbles as she and Steve lift Nancy's wooden monstrosity while she spots them unhelpfully.
"Eddie, please don't flirt with my mum," Nancy begs after waiting for Holly to follow her mother into the kitchen.
"What can I say, parents love me," he teases, leaning into her personal space and making her recoil. "Anyway, Steve's the one who flirts with your mum."
That addition earns a chorus of barf's and ew's.
"Dude, you can only be in this house if Ted isn't miraculously glued to the Lzyboy," Steve retorts, backing into the kitchen.
"Don’t worry, pretty boy, I only have eyes for you," he grins, being completely unhelpful as the others fumble to the kitchen table.
"Mum was supposed to be doing this but she decided to do a practice run on the food for Christmas," Nancy explains, eye flitting to her mother looking over a cookbook with a furrowed brow.
"Steve, sweetie, can you help me with this?" Karen asks.
Steve and Eddie exchange a look before he defiantly walks over to Mrs Wheeler.
"We need the glue gun," Robin says, deathly serious. "And I need the sewing machine, stat."
Nancy nods and sprints out of the room as Eddie flops down on a chair at the table and leans back, indicating he has no intention of helping. Holly sidles up to him, smiling innocently.
"Yes, Holly?" he says, picking at his nails as he anticipates god knows what request from the youngest Wheeler sibling.
Despite Ted positively despising him and banning him from the house (turns out Satan-worshipping rumours tend to stick in bum-fuck nowhere Indiana), Eddie had managed to charm his way into Karen’s good graces and, by extension Holly. Little Holly who was always complimenting his clothes and sometimes painted his nails. Hell, he’d even befriended Grandma Wheeler over a conversation at the grocery store just before Thanksgiving.
"Can I paint your nails?" Holly requests, as if on queue.
He looks over to Steve, completely engrossed in whatever cookbook Karen has placed in front of him (albeit squinting to do so). He places his hands on the table.
"Go for it."
"Why are you squinting?" Karen demands, leaning into Steve with a look of horror typical of a worried mother. She looks him over as he grumbles in protest.
He's about to run through any number of his lame excuses but Eddie cuts in.
"Steve needs glasses but he won't get his eyes tested."
Steve glares at his boyfriend who looks proud of successfully dobbing him into an adult who will likely take the matter into her own hands.
"Honey, you need to go to the doctor. I'll make you an appointment!" she insists, rushing to the wall-mounted phone in the kitchen, narrowly missing Nancy heading back into the room with her mother’s heavy sewing machine. Before Karen dials, she screeches down to the basement, making everyone jump, "Mike! Eddie is here!"
Mike walks into the kitchen and stops dead in his tracks, glaring at Eddie.
"Wheeler," Eddie nods.
Mike gives a sour look as his eyes move over the scene before him.
"Are you here visiting Nancy?"
"Yes," Eddie says with a wicked grin. "But in the meantime, I'm getting a makeover."
Mike had done a complete 180 on Eddie when it came to his friendship with Nancy. And, for the sake of completely terrorising the gangly twerp, they regularly pretended they were sickly in love and dating, with the full support of Steve who took great pleasure in seeing Mike Wheeler suffer.
Steve huffs a laugh and Eddie does everything in his power to not look over.
"Yes, he came over to see me," Nancy says, calm enough to keep up their little ruse as she hovers over Robin fixing Holly’s costume.
Steve reaches for a notepad on the kitchen bench and starts writing, muttering to himself and chewing on his nail.
"Uh oh," Eddie laughs. "Betty Crocker-mode activated. Take your time Holls, we're gonna be here til Steve gets whatever the hell it is made."
"Mike!" Karen scolds, holding the phone away from her when she spots Mike shoving past Steve to get to the fridge. "Don’t be rude!"
"Whatever," he says, slamming the refrigerator door and sculking back down to the basement with a Coke.
Robin finishes the costume in no time, beating out manicurist Holly as Steve finishes up practically rewriting Karen’s recipe as he reluctantly accepts a slip of paper with a doctor’s appointment written on it. As Robin glues the last panel of the manger together, now with Steve, Holly and Nancy holding its sides she finally strikes a well-earned superhero pose.
"Done!"
Nancy gasps rushes to Robin, hugging her tight.
"Thank you!" she says, voice muffled.
The hug is probably far too long for two people who are most definitely not flirty friends. Robin breaks away first and awkwardly smiles, all teeth, as she picks up her jacket.
Nancy looks at her feet for a moment and chews her lip.
"Do you want to maybe go for dinner?" she finally says like everyone else has disappeared from the kitchen. "Just the two of us?"
Steve and Eddie nod, both eyeing Robin in anticipation.
"Uh yeah, sure," she replies painfully slowly.
Nancy beams. "I’ll just get my bag."
"I think that went well," Eddie says proudly as he lights a cigarette when they head out to Steve's Beemer.
"You offered no help. At all!" Steve shrieks, louder with every word, snatching the cigarette and taking a drag himself.
Before Eddie can argue and gesture wildly with his freshly-painted nails (black of course, though Holly insisted on some candy cane stickers), Robin bursts out the front door, beaming.
"I'm going on a date with Nancy Wheeler!" she screams out into the snowy abyss.

📚 QUEERBOOK 2024 is hereee! We made a book by and for LGBTQ+ youth! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈
Last year, we asked LGBTQ+ youth: what's your idea of a "queer utopia?"
Not gonna lie - with more than 150 bills introduced in 35 states in 2023 that aimed to restrict student access to inclusive and diverse books and other library materials, the theme felt pretty radical.
And you DELIVERED. With the help of our Youth Voices (amazing queer youth activists from across the country), we compiled your amazing submissions of poetry, short essays and letters, visual art, photography, and more into Queerbook 2024. Like a yearbook, it captures what queer youth are feeling, going through, and hoping for - right here, right now across the U.S.
It's also no accident that it's the perfect small-ish size to stash in your locker or backpack so you can crack it open any time you're looking for some queer connection. :3
Read some more about the book and grab your own limited-run copy of Queerbook 2024 now here.

all magic comes with a price
or, the once upon a time au. in which robin is a professor of literature, who gets roped into helping a ten-year-old who shows up at her doorstep (and claims to be her daughter...). it all goes to hell when robin takes the kid back home.
(tagging @perceivedregret !! here's some of the brain rot that's been brewing lolol)
“So, your mom is the reason that this curse exists?”
“Yup,” Max says, popping the ‘p.’
Robin hums. “I don’t know, kid, that sounds kinda evil to me.”
“She’s not,” Max sighs, “She’s not evil, she’s just…look, you can’t judge someone off of one mistake.”
Max lets the sentence hang in the air, before continuing. “She can be…cold. But she’s not evil. You just have to let her warm up to you.”
“Yeah…I think that’s gonna be easier said than done,” she winces as they pull up to the address Max gave her earlier, only to find one brunette with worry etched on her face. It melts into relief once she spots Max, and then into bewilderment upon seeing Robin. Robin manages a small smile, and an awkward wave.
“Hi.”
The brunette blinks rapidly, big blue doe eyes scanning Robin, and Robin can see Max’s shit-eating grin from behind her mother. “Hi.”

sometime, anytime, sugar me sweet
Eddie is grateful that he gets to take over the basement every so often, setting up a story of magic and mayhem for the kiddos. Right now, Eddie is extremely grateful because if it wasn’t for D&D in the Wheeler’s basement, he would have never stumbled upon a sight he never could have even imagined existed.
“Steve Harrington, a baker? Ok, now I’ve seen everything.”
