i don't think i've posted about this before so here is my completely nonsensical theory/overanalysis on The Play
let's take a look at the squipped characters' lines in the play, shall we? starting with mr. reyes. "You needy, pathetic, self-centered students. You think I wanted to teach high school drama? In New Jersey? My Squip says I can go all the way to Broadway. I just have to make sure you don’t ruin my big night."
lot to unpack here. could be true that mr. reyes does indeed think this but we've seen him interact in a very friendly manner with the students before- asking about the jake-madeline scandal, (in the broadway version) hanging out with the students, overall just being nice to the Popular Kids even if they objecticely suck at acting. in some productions he even hugs christine when she shows disappointment about the play being changed. personally i think it's unlikely he thinks of his students as 'needy, pathetic, self-centered'- whether he hates teaching drama in middleborough or wants to go to broadway we can't know for sure, but still.
next up, jake. "I was already pretty boss before / now I'm totally boss and then some more / I'm living the upgrade / God, I love me!"
now. you already know how unhealthily obsessed i am with jake and how much of his character i fleshed out in my head with close to zero canon basis lol. i'll try my best to stay within canon here- after play rehearsal jake admitted to christine that "When I saw you die in the play last year... That was like the saddest I’d felt in a long time. It was like everything in my life, all the pressure I feel to be the best, at everything, all the time... Suddenly felt so small." basically he's saying that he's been pressured to be perfect at everything his entire life but implying christine's acting made that pain feel small in comparison because y'know, flirting tactics. he's got some self-esteem issues, he did not think he was 'pretty boss before', fight me. wouldn't be a stretch to say that he doesn't really love himself either, then.
alright, mr. reyes and jake's lines are a little bit ambiguous. but brooke and chloe make it very clear they're being controlled by their squips. "I just want you to know, I’m not mad you broke my heart and slept with my best friend." "And I’m not mad you dated my best friend and wouldn’t sleep with me."
really? the brooke who was crying at the halloween party because she thought jeremy cheated on her and ignored chloe's call the next day isn't mad? the chloe who did oh you know, all of do you wanna fucking hang wasn't mad or jealous jeremy was dating her best friend? bullshit. this is why i have mixed feelings on the changed lines in the broadway production- while it adds depth to the girls' characters instead of just reducing them to their relationship with boys it completely throws off my entire theory that nothing the squipped people say during The Play is true. (tbh which is likely the case & i'm overanalyzing all this but whatever it's just a fun little theory i have)
because see- in the first draft of the script christine's lines are "I hate play rehearsal / so says my voice that comes from within / I am perfect sans rehearsal / because I don't need to practice to win"
we've already established play rehearsal is christine's coping mechanism and an escape for feeling lost in life as well as a metaphor for her not being able to find her true identity. what do you mean she thinks she's 'perfect sans rehearsal' and 'doesn't need to practice to win'. that goes against her entire character. even the finalized changed lyrics where she admits "You are the person I want to be with every day / And this is something that I've been afraid to say / You're the guy I am so kinda into / The guy I am totally into / This feeling is new / Jeremy, I love you" are... debatable. christine had previously shown little to no romantic interest in jeremy, even turning him down at the halloween party that she needed to find herself before dating someone. she did agree to go out with him in the end but that was most likely because she thought highly of his actions during the play and because she got to know him better. and even if we presume she did have feelings for jeremy all along, the line 'this feeling is new' still wouldn't make sense. most importantly jeremy himself says 'that's not christine'. he recognizes her being controlled by her squip, she doesn't really mean what she's saying.
so. basically what i'm saying is my theory is that what the characters say while squipped during the play are all contradictory to what they actually feel, because the squip's goal is to manipulate jeremy by making it seem like everyone's happy with the squips when they all have their own problems in reality. the implication is that the squip is supposed to be the solution to all those problems but as we know through jeremy and rich that isn't exactly the case. especially not during The Play, aka its epic villain moment.
that's about it thanks for coming to my ted talk

hihi so im interested in a request because i never see anyone write for ocs so i kinda got really excited. scara x my oc pleas 🙏🙏
heres some images of my beautiful baby girl(she is 27)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
shes 5'2(157.4 cm)
her names skull and shes a popular and admired magician in Snezhnaya but she also works as a fatui harbinger which is something common folk dont know. Her rank in the fatui is rank delphic because no one, not even herself, knows her limits. She's hydro catalyst, but if she's feeling extra then shes also good at using at a scythe.
so her personality is likeee the average extrovert, but around scara shes like nagatoro if you know that character 🧍 she just loves annoying him. She can also be extremely unhealthily obsessive.
for the genre i want it to be silly but hints at nsfw at the end- but no full nsfw.
I wasn't sure what you wanted me to write or how their dynamic is, so I kind of took it into my own hands. If it's wrong, please let me know! I hope I did your girl some justice, though!
Scaramouche watched with a bemused expression as Skull set loose yet another flock of colorful birds from seemingly nothing. The crowd cheered loudly, tossing coins, gems, and flowers onto the stage, showering the girl with wealth he knew she didn’t need. Her skirt twirled as she swung her arm in an extravagant arc, the little trinkets disappearing from the stage. More cheers arose from the crowd, but Scaramouche stayed silent. She turned to face him, winking when she saw him watching. He rolled his eyes but didn’t look away as she performed more tricks, enrapturing the audience with her boundless energy.
Once her show was over, Skull sauntered over to Scaramouche, who was waiting by the caravan, a grin on her face.
“Well? Did you enjoy my show?” She asked, standing on her tiptoes to get in his face. He scowled at her, pushing her down.
     “No.”
“Awwh, don’t be like that, Scara!” She said, bouncing on the balls of her feet as he opened the door to get in.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Scaramouche sighed, grabbing her hand and haouling her into the caravan.
“You’re so mean, you know that? I did extra tricks just for you!” Skull exclaimed, sitting almost too close to the harbinger. He glared at her.
“I’m not mean.” He pinned her with an annoyed stare when she tried to climb into his lap.
“You are,” she pouted. “You’re supposed to say ‘Wow, Skull, what an amazing performance, I couldn’t take my eyes off you!’” She narrowed her eyes. “You only looked at me, right? No toher girls?”
     Scaramouche rolled his eyes. “Sure.”
“What?! Are you telling the truth?! If you looked at another girl, I’ll kill her! You’re only supposed to look at me!” Skull’s voice turned whiny and high pitched. Scaramouche grimaced.
“No, I only looked at you, don’t worry,” he sighed, patting her head. She smiled up at him, pressing into his touch like a cat.
“Good. Cuz I love you, you know?”
     “I know.”
     “And you love me, right?”
“Yeah.” Scaramouche held in his sigh. Skull giggled, wrangling her way into his lap.
“How long until we get back home?” She asked cheekily.
“Few hours, at best,” Scaramouche answered, narrowing his eyes up at her.
     “Wanna do something fun~?”

bunch of thoughts on the art styles in mdzs & tgcf visual adaptations:
i think out of all the four visual adaptations in mdzs and tgcf (i haven’t taken a look at anything from svsss yet) i love the art style of the tgcf donghua the most. it’s kinda ghibli-like but still sharp enough to give the characters some really great expressions. so obsessed with hua cheng’s donghua design (especially his true form like ??? just .... screaming over how perfect it looks). i haven’t watched it yet but i’ve seen mvs and edits and i just know that this san lang character design is going to be my all-time fav. a little childish, sly, secretive. you can see it in his eyes and his little smirky smile. very nice. i like it.
mdzs manhua was great overall, i just preferred the style from the first half compared to the second half (or what i like to call the black-haired version vs the brown-haired version). the art style peaked during the yi city arc imo. my fav manhua character versions: lan xichen, nie mingjue, xue yang, song lan (Obsessed with his manhua design), xiao xingchen, wen ning (his chibis are so precious).
mdzs donghua art style is very good for action (somehow it reminds of me those older animes e.g. ghost in the shell or perfect blue), it really grew on me a lot after watching the whole thing. idk how to explain it but the donghua eyes are a lot more fancier than the manhua style. some character designs i liked better in the manhua version - e.g. jin guangyao (he’s my absolute fav in the donghua i love his pre-chief cultivator design so much), jin ling (he became cuter somehow), jin zixuan (they really nailed his brooding temperament very well), in fact most of the major lanlingjin characters were just amazingly done in donghua. also wen qing, madam yu are a lot more imposing when you see them animated. some characters like sizhui, jingyi, huaisang, jiang cheng were equally great for both adaptations.
i still prefer the yiling laozu and lwj hairstyles from the manhua though (just a personal preference!). maybe cos it looks cleaner? especially for wwx’s yiling laozu hairstyle. in manhua version it’s really sleek and straight. for lwj i just liked the general flow/shape of his hair in the manhua better than the donghua.
also for yi city quartet i’m manhua version all the way. i mean all the other iterations of xue yang are very nice but so far no other version of xue yang has topped his manhua design for me :)
ok last one is the tgcf manhua this took me a hella long time to get used to it (i’m still getting used to it actually) - it’s very VERY pretty, like a painting. i won’t deny that. but it’s a little harder to see the expressions since everything’s so impressionistic-like. still, everyone here looks so goddamn beautiful so i’m sure as hell not complaining. xie lian looks like a doll i just keep stopping at every panel to examing the details of how they drew his hair and his lips and eyes like ... gaaahhh so!!! pretty!!!! and if hua cheng in donghua version is cute, the manhua version of hua cheng is intimidating as hell. his face is literally perfect i actually wanna cry admiring it. i’d combust if anyone who looked like that even gave me a glance.
like, if i were to give an analogy, the tgcf manhua is high art, luxury dining, high-class food, something along those lines. the art style just screams rich which is suitable for a story about gods and immortals, it’s just that i’m slowly adjusting to all that gorgeousness and still getting used to it.
also on a side note i am very unhealthily obsessed with this fanmade song for tgcf called ‘pleased god’ that i came across in a compilation playlist and i’ve been looping it pretty much the whole day at work ;-;

I think they kinda hinted that Webby was a potential heir when she did the exact same pose as the golden statue on the first episode when she made a claim that she was going to eat a hamburger... but yeah the whole biological did ruin the whole message of family.
Admittedly I’ve warmed up to the idea that the crew planned out the Webby twist, but that doesn’t mean it was done well, cuz it rlly rlly wasn’t.
I rlly don’t buy that Webby posing like a Scrooge statue in the first episode was meant to be this massive piece of foreshadowing because that’s a shot where it makes more sense in the context that Webby posed exactly like that statue because she literally lives in the mansion and knows every little detail about it and Scrooge, so it’s not out of realm that she KNOWS where the statue is and what it looks like and posing like that is meant to be how Scrooge is her inspiration, because that’s truly what Scrooge has always been to Webby the entire series before the finale.
Webby absolutely loves and adores Scrooge, to a fault, and you’re gonna try and tell me that moment of her mirroring a statue of her idol, that she knows is in her house, was always meant to foreshadow a plot twist that never shows signs of existing until mid s2?
Them choosing that shot from the first episode moreso feels like they chose it cuz “lol look at her posing like her dad” rather than it being an actual scene they planned out to foreshadow it.
I know creators like to say “oh we planned this certain twist from the start and now that you know here are the hints” and those can be fun to figure out and notice on a rewatch but when you choose moments that are so incredibly vague and that hinting only exists if you squint at it, that’s bad foreshadowing.
The thing with foreshadowing a twist is that you hint at it for as long as you feel is necessary and when that twist is revealed, once you look back at those moments you’re supposed to immediately be like “OH WAIT THIS WAS MEANT TO HINT AT THIS” and that’s the only context that foreshadow is supposed to exist in. Foreshadows, in a way, have double meanings but the problem is that first meaning is supposed to be a misdirect and then that second and true meaning is meant to erase that misdirect entirely. If your twist can’t erase the misdirect that you created for that hint, or if that misdirect actually makes more sense than your real twist, something isn’t right.
I could be entirely wrong and that scene is supposed to be this big foreshadow but the rest of s1 doesn’t hint at it at all so it’s hard for me to buy the DT crew were hinting at this twist from the start. I’m pretty sure Frank did admit on Twitter tho that the Webby twist was something not a lot of people in the crew knew about, which I understand you wanna keep some surprises from your team for when you all watch back, but the issue with not a lot of people knowing is that there becomes this disconnect between the producers, the writers and everything. Idk how many people knew of this twist but I feel a few more people should’ve known that way they could’ve planned out the hinting and foreshadowing of it all a lot better.
Honestly, if I had to pick out a moment of the crew hinting at the Webby is Scrooge’s daughter twist I would choose her dream sequence from Nightmare on Killmotor hill, admittedly that moment does run into some issues of “well this can just be showing how unhealthily obsessed Webby is about Scrooge” but it’s more believable to me than Webby posing like a statue she knows is there because that moment could also be hinting at her being a FOWL experiment and that McDuck DNA was used to make her. Like it’s all right there, idk why the crew decided to act like they were so clever for hinting during the first episode when they rlly didn’t.
The twist mostly bothers me now because it just strips the one thing Webby always had as blood and that’s Beakley. She should’ve remained Webby’s blood family and I stand by that. Webby with the McDuck’s captured found family so nicely and I still don’t understand why they decided to switch it to “well actually Beakley is found family and the mcducks are Webby’s blood family” at the end of the show.
Obviously, I still don’t like the twist LMAOO but 100% if it was done better I’d be a little more accepting of it.

hi! hope you're doing well :) do you have any domestic!cherik fics? or established relationship ones?
Hi anon, thanks for the ask. I'm doing very well, been super busy because I'm currently moving but it's all good. I have plenty of great domestic/established relationship cherik fics for you. I hope you enjoy!!
Domestic/Established Relationship cherik
Daycare ‘Verse’ – orphan_account, pocky_slash
Summary: A modern AU in which Charles runs a mutant daycare and Erik is his long-suffering engineer boyfriend.
Runs in the Family – Anonysquirrel (chibirisuchan)
Summary: Alex knew his own reputation. Hell, he'd started some of his own reputation, because it kept some of the smarter thugs off his back. Everyone knew Alex's reputation. There was no way Hank didn't know his reputation, but he'd brought Alex into a house with some really expensive things and a lot of innocent little kids and his too-friendly, too-harmless dad.
But clearly Hank hadn't told his family anything about Alex, just like he hadn't told Alex anything about his family. At least, not about the brain-breaking parts of his family.
"I didn't know where to start," Hank said, for the dozenth time.
Gift of the Magi, But Screw it Up – librata
Summary: He doesn't know if he's buying too much, too little, or even the right things at all, because he's never entertained a guest as important as Edie Lehnsherr.
Making perfect – aesc
Summary: As is the case with most trials in Erik's life, this one starts with Charles gazing beseechingly at him and asking him for a favor. Not that their going-on-three years relationship is a trial, even though it started with Charles giving Erik the full benefit of sad blue eyes and asking him if he wouldn't mind opening his car door since he'd locked his keys inside, but still.
Continue firm and constant – aesc
Summary: Moira hasn't seen her old partner in saving the world from threats human and intergalactic, Erik Lehnsherr, for a few years. When she finally does see him again, she finds a man different from the one who's been with her down in the dark and the dirt and the blood... or maybe he isn't so different after all.
After School Special – listerinezero
Summary: Charles was barely seventeen and Erik was his social studies teacher. But after almost fifteen years together, does it really matter how they met?
Terrifying Domesticity – ishipitsobad
Summary: Erik is the most dangerous and notorious mafia boss around for miles, and yet the strangest things terrify him.
For example: his children, and his very pregnant mate.
Trying is Half the Battle – Pookaseraph
Summary: Post-Cuba, no divorce, Charles and Erik are in an established relationship and when Charles gets sick with a random flu bug, they discover that Charles can get pregnant. They then try to get pregnant, and try, and try.
We’ll all be gone for the summer – pocky_slash
Summary: Charles and Erik's usual family beach vacation gets a little bigger when they agree to watch Erik's teenaged twins for the summer. Charles is looking forward to a chance to bond with his step-children. Erik is terrified of screwing them up even more.
A Summer Day So Late in Coming – helens78
Summary: Fifty years after they fell in love, Erik comes to Charles with a proposal that rocks Charles's world.
Still Going Strong – JackyJango
Summary: Speaking of forty-eight, Erik hates it. Hates it even more that others are aware of it. While he’s pragmatic enough to know and accept that aging is inexorable, the increase in number gives the people around him the freedom to pounce at him with questions, opinions and advice he'd fought to keep at bay all year.
Besides, Erik believes that youth is a state of mind, not a phase in one’s life.
You have a child’s mind in a man’s body, Charles constantly tells him.
But despite his age, Erik is healthy. He works out daily. His muscles are steel and he can dead-lift four hundred pounds. He can break bones without breaking a sweat. Most importantly, he can still carry Charles to the bedroom and fuck him senseless. And as long as Erik can do that, he’s perfectly happy.
Before You Attempt Me (Fair Warning) – kianspo
Summary: Charles helps Raven get ready for the prom. Surprisingly, that part goes well. The prom itself not so much. Erik cooks a lot of unhealthy comfort foods and is incredibly patient. Charles mostly frets about everything, until Erik does something neither he, nor Raven see coming.
And now you will not be alone any more – pocky_slash
Summary: Erik gives driving, sewing, and cooking lessons, soothes nightmares, bolsters self-esteem, and still can't figure out why Charles keeps smiling at him like that.
Some sense of touch and a melody – pocky_slash
Summary: On a day when Charles, for once, finds himself saying the right thing to everyone he sees, he allows himself to be talked into a field trip to a local orchard.
It’s kind of our whole thing – pearl_o, pocky_slash
Summary: After two years of best friendship, Charles and Erik thought they knew everything there was to know about each other. They're surprised, then, when their first summer as a couple reveals that they have a lot to learn about each other and themselves.
Indulgence – grim_lupine
Summary: “The children are still asleep,” Charles murmurs groggily, flinging an arm out as if searching for Erik beside him. “The house is still standing, this is a ghastly hour, and more importantly, I’m still here. Why do you insist on doing this every morning?”
Your Father’s Daughter – ConsultingWriter
Summary: Wanda proves just how much she takes after Erik.
Pietro reeled back before leaning back in "They didn't tell you what happened? Wanda got in a fist fight and totally wailed on this guy, I mean, on one hand I feel kinda embarrassed for him, but it was so epic."
Erik's eyebrows shot to his hairline. Wanda got in a fight? That was....surprising, to say the least. Wanda tended to take after Charles in temperament and preferred talking to violence.
This Crazy Game Called Life – chiasmus
Summary: Raven declares game night in the mansion. Sean finds an elephant, Erik inherits one hundred unwanted cats, and Charles scars Hank for life with misdirected dirty thinking. This is five thousand-something words of crack with a dose of schmoop. I'm not sorry. Written for this kink meme prompt: Raven is tired of the boys going off to play chess (if they're even playing chess!) and pulls out a load of board games from one of the closets in the mansion. Madness ensues.
To my roomba with love – sareyen
Summary: There are a lot of things that Erik loves about Charles. He loves all of the obvious things; Charles’s kindness, his intelligence, his laughter, his eyes. He also loves the little private things; the way Charles sneaks Erik his unwanted tomatoes, his warbled opera singing in the shower, that sensitive spot on his hip.
And he loves the silly things about Charles, especially the way the man has a habit of talking to inanimate objects when he thinks no one is looking. Charles has conversations with the kettle, the washing machine, and their roomba – and every time Erik eavesdrops on him, he falls in love with the man a little bit more.
Everything About it is a Love Song – pocky_slash
Summary: Erik's spent fifty years being a figurehead and he's ready to leave that behind. Luckily, so is Charles.
(aka Old Retired Dudes in Love)
A Very Xavier-Lehnsherr Christmas – zamwessell
Summary: Erik is discovering new things about Charles Xavier all the time. Charles sometimes talks in his sleep. Often about food. Occasionally in Latin. Charles has a scar on his left thigh from attempting to demonstrate relativity to a girl by sitting on a hot stove. Charles doesn’t mean to be so loud when they make love, but sometimes Charles can’t help himself.
Charles is a voracious reader. Charles has an unspeakably filthy imagination. Charles will try anything in bed twice to make sure he wasn’t wrong the first time.
Charles is unexpectedly fond of Christmas. Perhaps that is not the phrase. “Unhealthily obsessed” might be better.
The fluffiest holiday fluff you ever read in your dang life.
Of Crabs and Castles – flightinflame
Summary: Charles and Erik take their children to the beach. Wanda builds a sandcastle, Nina makes some friends, and Pietro gets some exercise. Some family fun in the sunshine.
Bring Your Daughter To Work Day – listerinezero
Summary: Charles brings three year old Lorna to class with him.
Glasses – grim_lupine
Summary: Charles blinks at him bemusedly, but Erik barely notices because Charles is wearing glasses— wire-rimmed, and Erik can feel the metal humming, traces without touch the way they follow the curve of Charles’s nose and rest behind his ears.
Genetics Isn’t Sexy – pocky_slash
Summary: Charles lectures. The kids aren't very responsive. Erik, on the other hand....
Peanut Butter and Honey (The Fairytale Remix) – pocky_slash
Summary: Once upon a time there was a Princess named Anya who lived in a house with her Daddy and her wicked stepmother Charles. (A wicked stepmother is the person who comes and lives with princesses and their daddies after their mommies go away.) She had a best friend named Leroy, and one day he was lost.
The Bystander (The Consultant (aka A Westchester Telepath in the Avengers Tower) Remix) – Nanimok
Summary: When it comes to Professor Charles Xavier, telepath, SHIELD consultant and compulsive flirt, no one is safe.
Not even the Big Three.

Weird week behind me weird week ahead of me but I’ve done a lot of self reflection and came to the weirdest epiphany. The older I get the more I realize all my ‘problems’ with VivziePop - her thoughts on criticism;  the choices she makes in story telling; some of the people she’s worked with (not that any of that’s my business; I’m not her mom) really aren’t about Viv, but more about her fandom.
I’m speaking of the preHazbin era Viv here and as someone who’s only watch horny fish jump at the surface rather than jump straight into the Hazbin-fandom, but given my ‘noncritical’ fellow fans have told me that the Vivziefandom now is also terrible - I guess I’ll go over my experience and make the most out of what I do know.
Tumblr media
I followed Viv in 2009 and fell off in 2013 cause I kinda just lost interest and found myself wrapped up in other fandoms. I’ve always felt amicable about her content; I could give or take designs or the way in which she wrote characters -- ((Zech represent!!!)) but it’s honestly surreal and really fun seeing this person I recognize make it big and improve so much. Like I’ve said before I am very happy and very impressed with Viv doing all she’s done in the span of TWO YEARS. wow gurl.
Trouble is, there was the particular breed of fan who really made me...uncomfortable. They felt almost possessive of Viv’s attention. They sang praises about her work in a way that just made me want nothing to do with it because I was worried if I drew those characters these people would be like ‘hey, I’M Viv’s fav artist, not you!”. They would  unironically write Viv messages like:
“you are a GOD” -- “I’m so not worthy compared to you” --“I wish I was as talented as you” -- “YOU ARE EVERYTHING AND CAN’T DO WRONG VIV”.
The kind of messages which were meant to sound flattering but, intentional or not, came off as gaslighting, like they were guilt tripping Viv about being better than them. This behavior, treating your favorite artist/internet personality like your superior and groveling like Starscream, it strikes a nerve with me; partly because I was this way with my favorite artists and influences back in the day,  but also because once I got a taste of that treatment myself I realized just how bad it could be:
There was once a girl on dA who was jealous of me because of the attention I got on my art instead of her. I told her that I wasn’t gonna stop drawing but also that there was nothing wrong with her art and she’d find her place. It was weird being put in that position where someone is very clearly upset at you but also looking for your approval.
The second was some scumball who I blocked in 2016. He wouldn’t speak to me, only write condescending, backhanded comments on my art; check on my profile daily; call me a bootlicker (cuz I took commissions) behind my back; redrew my art and would talk about me in his personal artist notes about how I ‘probably wouldn’t see this’ - oh yeah all the while he did fan art of my characters but again never spoke to me when I replied. When I finally messaged him about his behavior he said he thought I was “really overrated” and “bad for the fandom” cuz I took money and kept him from getting the love he deserved. It took messaging another person within our fandom, one I had been in spats with online before, to finally realize I shouldn't put up with that bs....
That guy who was stalking me btw did so while I was well under 1.K watchers and am still pretty obscure. Anyway, I had one guy unhealthily watching me for the wrong reasons. Just one. This is why when Viv says she “hates creeps” I 150% believe this woman and am not about to call her a liar who just can’t take criticism. Like, if you really think that, I’m sorry but you don’t know what Viv’s gone through from both her critics AND fans.
Of course, a lot of people will be like “I bet you’re just jealous and really just want that kind of attention yourself so you’re preaching to the choir”, but like...no. I am envious of just about any creator who’s the social butterfly I’m not, but, like, if I'm jealous of an artist none of that is that artists’ fault. Ever. It’s my own issues with being comfortable with myself are at stake. If I criticize Viv’s work it’s not because I see her as competition or my Squilliam Fancyson; it’s because I’m a critical fan of animation and cartoons and have my own thoughts to share on the cartoons of an artist I’m familiar with.  Jealousy/envy/mixed-admiration/godIwishthatwereme.jpeg feels are totally natural and valid emotions when you’re a creator. Envy becomes a problem when you internalize, weaponize, and scrutinize people on the basis of them being what you aren’t which -yes - some people do in the name of criticism. ((Although, I would hardly say some of the nastiest AntiViv folk are jealous as much as they are angry that this project they think is harmful is getting attention and using that as justification for some really shitty behavior of their own, which no, this post is not a part of by virtue of coming from a critical fan.))
Critique can come from either a good place or bad place; good critique can be used to bad ends and bad critique can come from a well-meaning place, and vice versa.   It’s the difference between many a criticalfan having a sour taste in their mouth regarding the Viv’s base but persisting in a critique+admiration separate of that, and this asswipemonster trying to weasel his way into Spindlehorse while also bashing Viv on a public forum for clearly vitriolic reasons. He was a creep.
So yeah um please stop insisting that every Hazbin critic is just jealous’ because a) there are people who have a past with Viv’s base and that clouds their judgement, but in a lot of cases that doesn’t invalidate their feelings or thoughts on her work separate from that, and b) I’ve seen what clingy gaslighting jealous fans are. Spoiler: they’re not so much Annie Wilkes as much as they are Tommy Wiseaus. You don’t want Tommy Wiseau following you.
Another bad vibe I really picked up on that I can kinda confirm is still probably the case now: people think that they know Viv and the Spindlehorse crew and have the right to send them shit they don’t need or WANT to be seeing.
Like, I talked with Viv once ages ago. I don’t remember what I said other than we were talking about Frankenweenie, I think. She was nice. Outside of that she said “thank you” to my comments on her deviations but that’s it. I DO NOT KNOW THIS WOMAN AND unless you’ve worked with or are a legit friend/mutual of hers, NEITHER DO YOU. But I don’t think every Vivzie stan/critic knows this. Whether it be people assuming she MUST think they’re headcanon is now canon-canon cuz she liked a comment they made; or some critic thinking they must have seriously hurt her pride because they’ve been blocked by her on twitter (or you know, maybe she and the rest of Spindlehorse is tired of getting @s and don’t have to time to read through your analysis so they’re gonna just block and move on cuz they’re busy).
Just because the creators talk with fans doesn’t mean fans are literally their best friends and have a part in the show’s direction. And yes, critics and reviewers fit that bill as well. Know your damn boundaries people.
If you find/make some kind of contribution as a viewer that’s awesome but you should never expect nor DEMAND the creator see it. The most obvious horror stories involving this and Helluva/Hazbin have been the Instagrams made by the crew being harassed by incestpedo enthusiasts, but it applies even to just @ing creators as well.
I’ve seriously had someone tell me to just take my criticisms directly to Viv and like...no. Why would I do that?
I respect Viv and the artists working with her enough to know that they’re working their asses off on an animated series and should not be bothered. I don’t want them to stop all they’re doing and reply to me. I want them to keep working. Also, that kind of logic makes me wonder how many critics Viv’s found because she found it on her own or if some obsessed fan told her about it - which is really messed up cuz if it IS just good critique you’re, again, just pestering her, and if it wasn’t critique but full on harassment WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU MESSAGE HER ABOUT THAT ANYWAY? I’m sure she doesn’t need to be reminded that people drew and said really awful shit about her on Tapatalk. My point being I’m sure what people think they’re doing is
“OOOoh Viv lookitwut this person is doing in our fandom we need to ban together against this toxic behavior”
but what they’re actually doing, and sounding like, is -
“Hey Viv I know you are working so hard on the show and you’re trying to figure out where to go from here but LOOKITWHUTTHISHATERSAID. LOOKATIT! VALIDATE ME VIV AND PUT’EM IN THEIR PLAAAAAACE!”
TL;DR Viv’s fanbase back in the day consisted of everyman artists and interests but there was this one breed of fan -who I hope was just a vocal minority- that ruined it for everything else.
Call it stanning or ‘simping’ or as it’s classically known, ‘white knighting’, whatever it was it really soured a lot of people on her because of those fans.
That’s why the DollCreep drama got so bad from what I can tell. Doll and Viv had a falling out and then called out eachother online where people who took it upon themselves to speak for them starting throwing mud.
Back in the day I remember Viv used to get mad at artists for ‘stealing’ her style. I think this attitude from Viv directly has vanished but I remember it happening because one of the people she thought was stealing her style did art for me at some point and they were basically shamed/chased off deviantART by a gaggle of these really nasty Vivfans.
inb4> “VIV WAS AWARE AND STILL WEAPONIZES HER FANS THO”
I don’t know that. And honestly, where I’m inclined to believe she’d do something like that then I think Viv is really different and has improved her business and public image from her college days. I’d be very disappointed in her if she was pulling a Butch Hartman or Derek Savage, but I just don’t think she is one, k?
Viv is more self critical and aware than any of these uber protective-gatekeeping fans give her credit for. She said on the Pizzapartypodcast that she knows the Hazbin pilot wasn’t perfect; she’s been able to identify the problems with old Zoophobia; this woman knows that criticism of all kinds need to exist and from what I see she sounds like she’s trying to get used to that. It’s just, you know, when you have nasty antis badgering you, stalkers, obsessive yes-mam’ fans, opinionated shit posters, r34 artists, entitled shippers and the NDAs of a company alongside your own branded image - all that negativity, even the constructive bits, tend to clump together and you just want to scream at it so you can finish the damn cartoon already!!!!
TL;DR: PART TWO
VivziePop/mind is basically indie Tim Burton.  Her work is fun, shallow and made with love but is marketed as being for everyone when it’s really not. Parts of it I love to watch; parts of it drives me crazy cuz of reasonswhatev this isn’t a review.
BUT any fanbase where people tell me I should just “expect what’s coming to me” when I’m trying to argue against dragging creators into fandrama is troubling. People have a parasocial bond with fandoms and their creators and they need to learn when to back off.

We need more anti C//A who are Adora stans (like you seem to be) so that people can understand that C///A is bad for Adora. Heck C//A is bad for Catra too, but the shippers don't seem to realize it. If Catra had been able to let Adora go maybe she could have healed instead of her festering and the abuse may have ended instead of escalated.
Hello Dear, welcome on my Blog and a big thank you for your message! Firstly I wanna apologize that this response is reaching you more than three full days, almost four later. Just real life getting into the way of my online presence (at least I got my A-Levels admission!) but I assure you that replying to you was on my To Do List the entire time. And while I could've typed something quick, I thought you deserved a full length response just as much as the person before you received. That goes for anyone really to ask/write me anything in the future.
Adora is a character that has flaws, her own interests, things she struggles with/is insecure about etc. but she also still works on being better (up to Season 5). This makes her relatable, fleshed out and overall three dimensional. Overall for me that makes Adora very likeable. Which is funny because when I first watched the show I thought of her as too goofy and felt like she as a character was overall just flat. Her character design did not speak to me either, the ponytail with the weird hair poof and these pointy shoulders of her jacket just really were not my taste. Isn't it amazing how perceptions can change?
As you can guess from that description I did not always stan Adora and she's probably still not my favorite character but over the almost two years I've been in this fandom I've grown rather fond of her. Other important characters to me are Kyle (a very relatable comfort character of mine, he learned to stand up for himself and others and I support that, f*ck Season 5 for barely acknowledging his existence), Lonnie (apart from treating Kyle badly (which I really do NOT support or excuse) I really love her, man, some women just do me like that, I mean she really stood up to Catra like that), Entrapta (I'm autistic too! It's great to have some representation, seeing the ableism/treatment she experiences in the show is not so much though), Seahawk (I don't even know why, I have some issues with his behavior towards Mermista at times but overall I love this dork), Scorpia (she reminds me of myself so much and I really wanna give her hugs, I'm so glad she chose to no longer let Catra treat her like that even though I will be forever salty she just immediately forgave her), Peekablue (I can explain this even less than Seahawk, especially since it was not even really him in the end but his existence somehow helped me cope with Season 5, without him I probably would've left this fandom ... and also my favorite color is blue) and Double Trouble (now there's enough people already critcizing how they're not exactly great Non-binary representation but this dramatic lizard will forever be in my heart, that reality check they gave Catra, basically slapping her in the face with facts was satisfying as h*ck, also I like lizards overall).
Now there's plenty of characters I like, dislike (or even hate) or am simply indifferent about but after all this is not a tier list but me talking about Adora, Catra and Catradora. Adora started off as this girl that was so sure what she was doing is right but once she was taught differently she was willing to leave everything she knew (except Catra, because she valued her despite everything) behind. And not only that, she broke out of the abuse cycle that Catra tried so hard to keep upright. And that is exactly what makes Adora such a good role model. She teaches children (or people) that:
Your past doesn't define what/who you are or what/who you can become
-> Adora used to be a Horde soldier and did not know where she came from, but nonetheless she found herself a family and became a hero that saved thousands of people
You can always change your mind and start a new life if you feel disappointed in what you are doing/who you are as a person
-> Basically the exact same point, Adora started a new life as she saw what the Horde really was and changed her mind about who to fight for
You deserve love too, be it platonic or romantic (or se*ual???) (If you're aro and/or ace just ignore the part that does not work for you)
-> While Adora for various reasons thought her only use was to please others and meet their needs and expectations (mostly due to Shadow Weaver and Catra) she learned to accept that she too deserves love and validation (if the love aspect would not have been focused on it being romantic love so she could smooch Catra in the finale this would've been a billion times better because she got love from her friends that showed her her real value)
You can walk away from something/someone, that does not make you egoistic/selfish
-> Adora walked away from the Horde, after Catra stubbornly refused to come with her despite many offers (basically Catra broke the promise, not Adora) from her too and that did not make her a "traitor" or "selfish", h*ck, Adora in the end did this for a bigger purpose too, even if part of it was her not wanting to live with such wrong morals
Your opinions, feelings etc. about a person/something can change and that is perfectly fine and valid, being able to change is part of what makes someone human
-> Adora's views on many things changed throughout the show: The Horde and the Rebellion, the First Ones, Catra, being She-Ra, herself, her priorities and so on ... she actually makes use of her brain, which is why Catra saying "Don't you ge it?" or calling her an idiot and dumb never sat right with me, she's a realistic character for shifting with her thoughts, feelings etc. and sometimes just does not fully think things through
You don't have to let other people treat you like sh*t (just because they have some issues they never worked through does not give them any right to let it out on you)
-> This point is obviously centered mostly around Catra and her abusing Adora almost every chance she gets, which is why Adora standing up for herself and not letting Catra blame her for her own decisions and mistakes is so important, "You made your choice, now live with it" is one of the most powerful lines throughout all the five Seasons
Now I'm sure there is still more to Adora's character than what I just listed and unfortunately almost all the points basically got pushed aside, well, Adora as a character got pushed aside in Season 5. All her growth, the things that made me love her, see her as great role model for so many people robbed of their value for the sake of making everything revolve around Catra. That brings me to her and how you are absolutely right that Catradora is harmful to both characters. Of course Adora is affected most by it in the end but Catra too is obviously suffering under the fandoms obsession and just the overall idea of them being romantically involved.
Just like with Adora the stans make almost everything about Catra over her relationship with Adora. She too can barely exist outside of it and if she wasn't the fan favorite she'd most likely would too be mostly in Fanarts that include Adora and not just her (if you google "Catra Fanart" most content is still Catra and Catra only but here and there Catradora still peaks through). But for whatever reason the fandom still views her more as her own person as the other ones? Catrouble and Scorptra Shippers might actually still get less hate than Glimmadora Shippers (I'm not denying they don't get any, they most certaintly do) which is just plain hypocricy and favorism. Kinda like the: A woman needs to be loyal to her husband and her husband only but if the husband wants to be active with other women that is perfectly fine because "that is just how men are" or how i like to call it ... sexism. Now in this case they are both women so it's not sexism but yo do get my point.
But much more importantly, Catra has an unhealthy obsession with Adora. Signs of that are for example:
Constantly talking about Adora, even when said person is not around (to Shadow Weaver, Scorpia etc.)
Obsessing over having control over Adora like in that one Episode "Are you kidding? I finally got control over Adora, I'm not giving that up!"
Building her entire character and her actions around Adora "We need to take Adora down", "Adora left me", "I'd rather see the whole world end than see you win!", also shown in Season 5 where she states she does save Glimmer only for Adora and not for Glimmer or to do the right thing
Getting aggressive or very emotional over Adora like clawing the wall, having nightmares etc. (destructive behavior towards herself and others)
Having no or barely any characteristics outside of her relationship with Adora like, we don't know her interests or likes and dislikes outside of being evil, obsessed with Adora, being abused by Shadow Weaver ...
Trying to force Adora to meet her needs and expectations regardless of Adora's owns
Sacrificing her oppurtunity to be happy in the Crimson Waste for the sake of her Adora obsession and being better than her at all costs
So yes, you were very right with saying that not putting Catra in a relationship with Adora would've benefited both characters. Catra could've learned to exist on her own, develop interests and a life outside of Adora. Learn to accept herself and eventually come to terms with her childhood abuse. She could've been free and not "the abusive cat girl that ended up with the person she unhealthily obsessed over to the point of no return" she kinda is now. Even if we ignore the whole "dating your long term abuser" part from Adora's side and "being rewarded" for horrible behavior, Catra alone is not giving a good example to people watching. As much as I dislike Catra, disdain her even, an ending where she is dependent on Adora, unable to stand on her own two legs after she led armies in war is not what I would wish for her, even with a decent redemption arc (that she did not get).

I think a lot of writers need to understand that, when writing a mentally ill character, the “mentally ill” part shouldn’t be tacked on as an explanation of their morally unsound actions but as an explanation of their behavior in general. In a respectful way that is.
Yes, I’m saying this because I’ve gotten back into Gotham Rogues, a fandom in which basically all of the characters are both mentally ill AND literal supervillains. And I get the feeling a lot of both the writers and the fan base for the Gotham Rogues must think either that mental illness alone is directly or indirectly affecting a lot of their actions regardless of context AT BEST, or that being neurodivergent makes you evil AT WORST. Fortunately this is more of a problem in the canon, but the fandom sometimes irks me a lot in this respect. Like. DC comics IS ableist. You can, amazing but true, write mentally ill villains as long as you don’t make the mental illness be the responsible and even then the mentally ill bad guy trope is so pervasive, sometimes it’s better to let go. It’s not a coincidence a lot of the gimmick-y one-shot villains don’t get much personality besides “oh they’re unhealthily obsessed with [insert inane shit here]”. GRANTED these villains were created in the 40s, and, true, erasing disabilities is wrong, but seriously, if the only way you can fathom writing an ND villain is by deliberately doing so that THE bad thing is them being “””””crazy””””” or “”””””weird”””””” and not the fact that they’ve turned to violent crime for one reason or another... then for the love of god erase their disability you’ll literally won’t fuck it up that way?????
The worst part is, BATMAN, THE HERO, IS NEURODIVERGENT TOO, LITERALLY HE HAS CANON PTSD AND DEPRESSION AND BELIEVES HES A BAT IN SOME MEDIA BUT APPARENTLY ITS ONLY BAD TO BE SAD AND WEIRD AS FUCK WHEN YOURE DOING CRIMES BECAUSE OF WHATEVER OR HAVE “UGLY” SYMPTOMS! So, this is not a case of DC deciding only the bad guys are mentally ill, or the only ND rep being bad. It is a case of them deciding Bruce Wayne reacting to his childhood trauma by pretending to be a vampire and disassociating and having flashbacks and being triggered is tragic, but Harvey Dent reacting to his childhood trauma by splitting is Extremely Fucked Up And Definitely The One Thing That Makes Him Kill People Totally in true evil alter trope fashion like. Ironically half of the time.
The same goes for pretty much every villain but The Riddler, the Mad Hatter, and Two-face are the most obvious examples I can think of rn because they’ve actually got like, a diagnosis (WHEN DC BOTHERS TO GIVE THEM ONE THAT IS LMAO) instead of a throwaway “oh they’re insane and WEiRd lmao imagine caring so much about [insert inane shit here] 🤪” . Because DC kinda likes to parade this fact around for angst points all like “SERIAL KILLER HAS OCD THATS WHY HE LEAVES EVIDENCE!!!!!” or “INCEL THINKS HES FICTIONAL CHARACTER ISNT THAT FUCKED UP AND SHOCKING?”. Probably not realizing saying what amounts to “HEY! THIS BAD GUY HAS A DEBILITATING MENTAL ILLNESS WHICH CONDITIONS A LOT OF THEIR CRIMES” is not the amazing bigbrained plot point they think it is.
TLDR: DC And part of its fanbase have an ableism problem in which mentally ill heroes get closure and a shred of respect but mentally ill villains, even when the writer doesn’t entirely blame their evil in their illness, get to be ogled at in a very voyeuristic fashion instead, as if the shocking part of their mentality was the one thing they have no control over. “Cointidentially”, and by that I mean It’s deliberate, villains, unlike heroes, usually show their illness in socially “unacceptable” ways- while Batman’s own self-destructive behavior, that would be treated as incoherent and ShOCKing if he were evil, is seen as sad.

Some dream smp mbtis and enneagrams bc I love it!!!
@dreamsclock here it is!!
Characters:
Wilbur
Ghostbur
Tommy
Dream
Tubbo
Quackity
Karl
Under the cut bc they’re kinda long. Keep in mind this is the characters and not the content creators :]
WILBUR
Personally for me I’d type c!wilbur as ENFJ which is interesting for a villainous character. When he spirals into madness, you can see his dominant function (Fe) become more unhealthy, leading to him being very manipulative. He shows Ti-grip when his Fe is left to burn out, becoming critical of others and their methods, preferring he do it instead (seen with tommy during their exile). Ni auxiliary is shown in his ambition and drive for his goal of L’manburg.
For his enneagram, i know wilbur said he based c!wilbur off of the song eight by sleeping at last, but hear me out,,, I was thinking maybe a 3w4. The 8 characteristics could be seen in a tritype of 368. Type three is named the achiever which in itself stands for his vision and ambition of L’manburg. 3w4s are often working towards personal growth and professional success. When unhealthy, 3s can get extremely competitive and prone to one-upping others. May reject their sense of self and develop intense mood swings. At worst they can backstab ruthlessly (tommy and the whole of L’manburg and pogtopia) and destroy others reputations solely for their benefit (“if i can’t have this no one can”). The tritype Im a bit if-y on but I’ll say 368 because it focuses on working hard, achieving personal best and developing a winning image. They will want to protect others from those they perceive as a target (dream, Schlatt), they will warn and caution others and seek “worthy” authorities they can respect.
GHOSTBUR His Si is incredibly high so imma say ISFJ. His main motive (id say) is wanting to collect stories of his past and the history of the nation he built, his “unfinished symphony”. Fe auxiliary is very strong as well as he shows a lot of compassion to others, offering them some blue in times of need and also not wanting anyone to feel sadness like he feels it. Ghostbur ignores his own feelings in order for others to feel safe. His Ti is shown through his need for gathering knowledge to understand alivebur and i could also see it through his internalised logic that the blue will help people. Not sure on inferior Ne, maybe through not wanting to see other possibilities in regards to his resurrection, however he was under a lot of stress since his home just got blown up, and friend died, so I can’t blame him.
He clearly doesn’t want conflict so I’ll say type 9. Needs peace and harmony (he gives out blue to help people). Soothing voice, and collected (except when Phil blew up L’manburg but that’s reasonable). He’s complacent, and humble, and will go the extra mile so long as to not rock the boat. Appreciative of the small things in life and enjoy simple pleasures.
TOMMY For Tommy I think ESFP which is probably one of the ones I’m up for more opinions on bc I’m not completely sure of his type. Se as dominant as he thrives on living in the moment but in an unhealthy way (unnecessary conflicts) He’s got a strong Fi auxiliary and you can see that through his personal morals and the way he usually makes decisions based off of emotions rather than objective facts and logical reasoning. He’s good at planning, but not at thinking out the longevity of it. Eg when heady exile and found technos house and lived under there, thinking techno would find him, this all shows Se-Te loop. He gradually develops an unhealthy Fi which leads to him disregarding external relationships (his friendship with tubbo) and commitments to maintain his internal love of the discs.
Enneagram wise, I’m definitely leaning towards 7w6. 7s are usually jumping from one thing to another and are constantly getting bored. The wing 6 brings loyalty and protectiveness. When unhealthy, sevens become narcissistic in their actions and presentation (see his confrontation with tubbo after tubbo thought he was dead, and the “the discs are worth more than you ever were” granted he quickly realises what he said but the mentality was still there).
DREAM I think he’s a fairly obvious stereotype unhealthy ENTJ. He has a very low Fi. When we see him driven by emotion (usually anger) it’s terrifying and we have no context about it at all except that it’s for a need of control. He knows how to manipulate people through his charisma and power in an ENTJ fashion. He lost attachment to his things very quickly (using Te and Ni to go forward logically while also showcasing his inferior Fi)
Dream is a very painfully obvious 8, probably an 8w7, but he is defined an 8. The eight has fiery passions and is usually stubborn and headstrong, they are serious about control over their environment. They are goal-oriented and self-competent. Eights are direct and aren’t shy when taking the lead and making tough decisions. They are often seen in leadership positions. The eight type is part of the “body based” triad and they often act impulsively. They crave respect and enjoy being likes by the group. When unhealthy, eights can become tyrannical and intimidating, scaring off others at first glance. They become addicted to the pursuit of power and will destroy anything blocking their path. Feelings and emotions become insignificant (spirit :’)) challengers become stone-cold and take an antagonist stand to anyone who questions them or their motives. This is the one I’m most most sure of out of every typing I’ve done bc it seems painfully obvious.
TUBBO I’d say probably an Fe dom so maybe ENFJ/ESFP but I’m leaning more to the ENFJ side. Tubbo realised after he thought tommy had died that, without tommy he was himself. Something Fe doms struggle with the most is self worth and personal identity. They’re caught up in wanting to help others that they don’t tend to their own needs. He’s careless and self sacrificing when it comes to the needs of others (him giving up his life so that tommy could have the discs and be happy) and bc he has such low self esteem he doesn’t realise that that’s not what tommy wants. The reason I’m more leaning to ENFJ is because of his inferior Ti. Though he didn’t want to due to dominant Fe, he was lead to believe exiling tommy was the best possible solution. You can see he regrets it after tommy and dream had left. When he was working under schlatt we saw his remorse and guilt even though he knew it had to be done. We see his dominant Fe during his time as president when others push him to do things and he usually agrees. He was manipulated through guilt by dream which is very unhealthy ENFJ.
(I wrote this before the ghostbur one so sorry for any repetitive language) For enneagram, type nine: the peacemaker. Type 9s are motivated by their need for peace and harmony (tubbo was manipulated into believing that getting rid of tommy would achieve this). They have a calm demeanour and are agreeable. They’re hardworking, friendly, and modest but also more serious and diligent than expected. (I’m not too sure on his enneagram which is why this is so short)
QUACKITY Estj imo. Like dream, he’s unhealthily obsessed with power, (unhealthy dominant Te). He abandoned L’manburg because schlatt wouldn’t let him have any say, and he was shoved to the side, despite it being a coalition government. He is very logical and controls others. He makes sure he comes out as the hero and that his hands are clean, learning it from past experiences (Si). He quickly finds ways to get out of situations through the use of tertiary Ne. Doesnt show a lot of Fi and he usually underestimates his opponents abilities and/or strength due to his overconfidence. He’s willing to kill anyone who goes against what he thinks and is stubborn and argumentative. He doesn’t like it when people are lazy and don’t contribute.
Also, similarly to dream, I’d type his enneagram as 8w7. The same with his obsession of power, and his strong/weak mindset where he thinks the world is made up of protectors and those who need to be protected (see him taking it upon himself to execute technoblade for the better of L’manburg) which is all very textbook 8. The opinions of others don’t have much effect on him. Eights are concerned with justice, combating oppression, and protecting the weak. He takes the lead in making tough decisions (he’s the butcher army leader). He becomes more antagonist and villainous with his actions against technoblade, believing he’s in the right. (I didn’t want to just copy out what I said for dream so this is a shortened version)
KARL Torn between ENFP and ESFP but leaning toward ENFP. He’s time travelling because he believes it’s the right the to do which is more so Fi, but could be Fe wanting to help others at his personal cost. But also the Fi-Te pair keeps him going and he won’t stop until it’s fulfilled (which is pretty Te imo). He is creative and good with imagination and ideas (Ne) (at the masquerade, although it was a comical excuse, he came up with minecraft streamer quickly, he was also able to answer billiams questions pretty quickly).
Even though it’s now canon he doesn’t choose when and where he travels to, which would have been a stronger argument for a type seven, he’s still enthusiastic at the times he travels to. He’s optimistic (with the mentality everything will go right for him because he believes it has to, even though he’s loosing a lot of memories atm). He’s got childlike energy and curious eyes. He wants to bounce from one place to another, he created two towns already, although one technically no one knows about gogtopia except for the founders and tommy who travelled through it. He’s well like and popular, which is often a 7 trait. The type 7 is part of the “heart-based” triad, and we can see him act through this with the way he seeks excitement as a means to distract himself from the darker, and more painful things in life. He ignores his fears in favour of positive experiences. For a wing, probably a 7w6 in favour of 7w8, the same as tommy. He’s loyal and a strong leader over being tough and more career-driven. If he was to turn unhealthy in the future, we might see him loose his groundedness, and start to live in a perpetual fantasy instead of reality.
Sorry for any typos or bad grammar :]

Yo! What did you think of the Expectant audio? I think it's the only TW audio that I listened to and thought mmm, that could've been so much more :( I get that it needed to have action and adventure but it kinda felt really obvious that the writer wasn't comfortable with Barrowman's dream. I think I expected better after how good so many audios like Broken have been :(
I’ll forgo spoilers in the first part for those who haven’t listened to the audio but might be interested in seeing a review, but there’ll be spoilers under the cut!
Anon, I agree with you! It definitely could have been so much better. I actually like the concept of the audio a lot, but the execution was... not to my taste, let’s say. To be fair, it really is a matter of taste, I personally didn’t like the humour, it did not mesh well with my sensibilities, though I also think it felt... outdated? I’m talking specifically about the sense of humour here.
The kind of jokes they made felt like something I might have found funny in the early 2000s when I didn’t know any better, before I examined some of the tropes/messages/expectations I’d absorbed from society and media (more about this under the cut because spoilers). The thing that bothered me the most about it was that it felt to me like the humour in it had not caught up to 2020 sensibilities, and Expectant is, first and foremost, a comedy piece. So if the humour’s failing then that’s a big problem.
Your mileage may vary, though, humour is a matter of taste after all. Interestingly, I actually think John Barrowman enjoyed the script and had fun getting to act it out? This is just the impression I got (certainly, he might have played it a bit differently if he didn’t), and I think this might be a generational thing as well as a matter of taste and sense of humour.
Spoilers below
As I said, I actually love the general concept of the audio: Jack, grieving and at a loss for what to do in the face of losing half his team, offers to carry an old alien friend’s child for them when political scheming means the unborn child might be in danger, in the hopes of ensuring the child’s safety, political stability for several planets, and (it is implied) as a symbol of hope that there’s good things in the universe too, not just loss and devastation.
There are obvious obstacles to Jack carrying a pregnancy while still being an active Torchwood agent, which is an interesting and fun thing that’s explored from the first scene: Jack has got used to being immortal and doing his job might well get him killed. Normally this isn’t a problem but if he dies while pregnant the baby can die too. But Torchwood is understaffed and still adapting to being a three-person team, so Jack has agreed to carrying the baby only if he can keep on working.
An interesting premise, vaguely tied in with a big moment from the show and the emotional fallout which wasn’t explored much in the show itself (Tosh and Owen’s deaths and how they affected Jack), some stakes from the get-go, plus a new original alien character (Jonty). So far, so good.
There are two main things that got in the way of me enjoying the audio: 1) how Jack was depicted as being hysterical during the pregnancy (and this being played for laughs), and 2) the indirect fatshaming (literally why, this was so unnecessary).
In the first case, they decided to write Jack as so emotionally unbalanced by the hormonal changes of the pregnancy that he had severe mood swings, with him breaking down crying supposedly triggered by insignificant things (like when he cries over a cupcake? Or something similar, I can’t be bothered to check). Jack having a meltdown would not be a bad thing to explore in an audio, except it felt to me as though they were using it as a joke? Like a “ha ha look how messed up he is by being pregnant, he’s so hormonal and out of control, isn’t that hilarious? Isn’t it so funny that this character is breaking down like a hormonal woman? Isn’t his pain just the funniest thing you’ve heard? :))))” (Sidenote but I also felt like John Barrowman overacted in these scenes, it didn’t sound like he was crying, it sounded like he was play-acting crying, and that didn’t help.)
The second thing was the whole fat camp-style spa subplot. While trying to get Jack to safety, Jonty takes Jack, who is heavily pregnant and showing, to a ““health spa”“ (read: weight-loss place) where Jack is put under a strict unhealthily-restrictive diet (especially given that he’s pregnant??), controlled by the overbearing spa lady (she literally takes food off his hands and watches him like a hawk to make sure he doesn’t “”overeat””), repeatedly fat-shamed, and this is all presented as a funny gag, presumably because he’s not really fat, he’s just pregnant! But people don’t know because he’s male/male-presenting, so all the micro-aggressions and abuse he’s subjected to are funny, right? Jack not being allowed to eat despite being hungry and heavily-pregnant is totally something to laugh at, surely (/s).
Disclaimer: this is not actually portrayed as though the fat-shaming is righteous and just behaviour, it’s sort of implied that the “”health-nuts”“ running the place were obsessive and weird, but that doesn’t change the fact that the whole subplot could have been something else entirely? Like, they obviously thought this was funny. Also, I won’t get into specifics but I am personally sensitive to these issues, so I can definitely see how some people might not be turned off by this at all; as I said, your mileage may vary and this is my own take on it.
So, these are my main issues with the audio. I don’t think the writer was uncomfortable with the concept as you say, Anon; I’d actually argue the opposite. It’s just that their take on it and their sense of humour were maybe not very in-tune with modern sensibilities (or with mine, at least) and the story suffered for it.
They took a look at the idea (a male/male-presenting character being pregnant) and came up with the worst tired comedy tropes for it: mood swings (and the resulting distress) played up for laughs, an emphasis on how big the character got being made fun of/criticised with an incomprehensible fatshaming subplot, they even threw in a reference that Jack’s previous pregnancy (mentioned in his first line in ep 1 of Torchwood) was a student prank (because men being pregnant is funny, I guess). Okay, that last one is a bit unfair, I just didn’t like it. They could have made Jack’s first pregnancy something meaningful (him carrying a friend’s child as a surrogate out of love for that friend, him carrying his own child born out of a relationship, etc.) but instead they made it into a cheap one-liner joke, and yeah it does fit into the tone of the audio, but that’s the problem: I did not like the overall tone of it.
There were some scenes with Ianto that were nice, and a couple of Owen and Tosh mentions that I enjoyed, and it’s interesting that you mention the action and adventure in your ask because I actually didn’t mind those aspects at all? The action was fine with me, it was the non-action parts mostly that bothered me (the emotional tone and sense of humour like I said).
This is probably more thoughts that you wanted but I was quite disappointed with this one (and I was so looking forward to canon mpreg), so I thought I’d take the opportunity to explain why. I do acknowledge that it was a matter of my own sense of humour and sensibilities not meshing well with the writer’s (I just checked and to my shock the writer is a woman; I would have put money on them being a cis man).
This one missed the mark with me. Badly.

how do u truly feel about ellington x lemony?
MAKES ME WORRIED AS HELL FOR ELLINGTON...
Look, I may not have completed asoue, but I have a good enough gist of how well Snicket handles his relationships (which is, Not Well and Very Unhealthily). He does not have a good track record and that's one person. Sure, that was after other numerous unspeakable trauma but uh. Tbh I am on the fence whether or not if Snicket cares about Ellington or is it somehow the result of, I dunno, delusion?
Not that sort of delusion, I mean, I think in a degree he does care about her, but there were times I cannot help if he even thinks of her as a person. At first read, she's some sort of femme fatale, and it polarizes the audiences whether to hate her or be on her side, but now with me rereading with a more critical mind and reading behind the lines, all I can see is an extremely desperate, lonely, and abused girl
He's, he's sort of, projecting a persona on her (A smile that could mean anything), when she really is not that persona. Like she's some sort of symbol, putting her on a pedestal (not as something to be morally admired, but something he obsesses on). And it's just so... So chilling. There are times he intentionally puts her in danger, manipulates her even... I mean, ok, maybe write that off, since she kinda does the same as well. She's manipulative and deceitful herself, with a chronic backstabbing disorder. But her actions in book 4, I can't 100% blame her. She helps him and his associates several times, often costing her greatly in the hopes she'd receive help in return, but in the end she's not getting anything, she's nowhere near close to finding her father. And now she's off to jail. At that point she probably felt she had nothing left to lose except whatever family she had left. Mind, if Ellington had somehow managed to form another, more sincere and healthier and better relationship — be it platonic or familial or maybe romantic — with another person, I really think she wouldn't have done those things she did. Because then her loyalty wouldn't be staked on a villain, and hopefully towards someone more morlly upright, and as a result, become more morally upright in turn. That's why the line in book 1 of Snicket lamenting if they had talked some more, become closer as friends, would things have been different? had me wondering a lot.
But maybe that's just me. But maybe not. I dunno, I'm not sure. Ellington is the type of person who would willingly go into the dark for her loved ones. And by Snicket following suit, they both just fell into the dark, with no turning back. It burned their bridge into ashes. It's just not hard to imagine these two easily veer off their relationship into an unhealthy one due to the crapsack of a world they live in and the damage it did to them. I dunno, maybe if they both get therapists it woud've been nice :(

Text
Ok so I just watched Frozen II yesterday and I just have a few things to say about it.
All in all, I really don't like it.
The more and more I think about it, the more things crop up that kinda rub me the wrong way. Bear with me, movie analysis is hard, so is sorting your thoughts, but I just need to get this out. And, uh, spoilers.
Plot. It's straightforward, it's easy to follow, it's predictable. Now don't get me wrong, I'm very well aware that this is a children's movie. However, older generations of Disney movies have proven time and time again that it's possible to create a complex plot made for younger target audiences. And, quoting a Doctor Who showrunner (I'm sorry I can't remember who) "It never hurt kids to have something a bit above them." Meaning that the media kids consume should teach them something, not dumb them down. This movie teaches kids nothing. The "be yourself" motif that followed through the first movie is barely visible, if anything. The plot centres mainly around Elsa following a faraway singing voice which turns out to be from a memory of her deceased mother. Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf set out to find the enchanted forest where the voice apparently originates from and they end up finding a tribe of natives living by the law of nature, called the Northuldra. All the way, Anna is unhealthily attached to Elsa, crowding her space and being overall quite clingy. Again, I understand she lost her sister and got her back after a long period of separation when they were kids, but the way Anna hung on Elsa seemed borderline obsessive.
Kristoff and Sven get left behind in the village because Anna apparently deems it more important to follow her sister and not tell her boyfriend what's happening, while she and Elsa make their way further north. They get separated and Anna, left to fend on her own, instead of of reflecting on who (Kristoff anyone???) could help her now, wallows in pity that her sister is gone, not even sparing a though to the man who a few scenes back burst into song describing how he felt 'lost in the woods' when it came to her. In the end, Anna saves the day and is reunited with Elsa, however Elsa realises that the best possibility to restore balance to this entire situation is to stay with the Northuldra and visit Arendelle from time to time. Thus, Elsa makes Anna Queen of Arendelle, which happens in a split second. There are no doubts, not a single dialogue between the sisters where Anna would voice her concerns whether or not she's make a good queen (a beautiful opportunity for Kristoff to tell her that he'd always be by her side), or regret that Elsa leaves her kingdom, although she knows it will be in good hands. Elsa hints that she's handing the crown over, there's a cut and Anna walks out, announced as the "Queen of Arendelle".
Romance. It seems like Disney doesn't know what do to with a decent, warm feeling (sorry wrong movie) decent, healthy relationship, once they've gotten past the point of "will they ever get together".
Not only is Kristoff benched for a good part of the movie, Anna also doesn't tell him that she's leaving with Elsa and leaves Kristoff behind in the native's village. Her characterisation leads to deliberate misunderstandings between her and Kristoff, in which she turns around the words in his mouth, all while he is trying to do right by her and propose.
Overall the romance between Anna and Kristoff is dumbed down and the miscommunication/misunderstanding trope is used way too often to be comfortable. Where the first movie gave us a couple that bickered, but understood each other in a fundemental way, Frozen II killed whatever spark there was between the two with a glacial glare. There seems to be no teamwork beween Anna and Kristoff, no combining of forces in a way; Anna trails after her sister like a lost puppy and Kristoff just follows. (honestly at this point Kristoff had more on-screen chemistry with the Northuldra boy called Ryder, who loves and talks to reindeers just like Kristoff does.) Kristoff rejoins up with Anna, but not because their paths finally cross again, but because Anna conveniently needs saving. Who better to save her than her knight on a shining reindeer, right? I mean it's not like Kristoff is overall an amazing guy and he could have made a fantastic addition in balancing Anna's hectic character... All the while Anna was running off without him, the moment he caught her and saved her, the first thing out of his mouth was "What do you need?". Neither was he mad at her for leaving him behind, nor was he prissy about her miscommunication, he looked at her and told her she would have his support, no questions asked. Later he even tell her "my love for you is not fragile." Where can I get a man like that and why did they not give me more of this.
In the end, after trial and error, Kristoff finally manages to propose... right after they're finished running for their life, after Anna is reunited with Elsa and they're standing on a small glacial patch. But it feels rushed and bland and wrangled in, in a desperate attempt to create romance where there previously was none.
All in all the movie feels rushed, it's exclusively plot driven, with little to no thoughts spared to the emotional aftermaths of a character's decision. The world building is sparse and convenient (water has memory!) and I feel like rather than answering questions, the movie just throws up more because it was too scared to delve deeper into its own characters.

3, 4, 13, 14, 12 (enter passage/chapter/etc instead of episode lol), 24, 28.
3: Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
a/b/o but i feel like that’s a fairly common one so let me be controversial and say...high school au. look in my opinion all of the merits of a high school au are ALSO present in a college au and at least in a college au nobody is like. 14! plus i don’t understand why anybody would want to relive high school....willingly
4: How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
SO MANY. one is an alex rider tv russian doll au, another is my alex rider/hive crossover that. admittedly will maybe never see the light of day, and another is the “how raven blew up a dam in cuba with esteban” missing scene backstory. those are the ones i’m like. actively working on/thinking about but i have a bunch of others that are just permanently on the backburner
12: Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?
for hive i am just. endlessly fascinated with the gap between aftershock and deadlock. it’s this six month long black hole that should be absolutely CHAOTIC (otto and raven tracking down the disciples, laura at the glasshouse, shelby and wing feeling isolated) and yet we really got nothing so i just love imagining what HAPPENED. alex rider tv i am obsessed with the kyra’s ambiguous episode 8 fate. oh and ohshc’s “hikaru and haruhi’s first date” episode is just a big 👁👁 for me as a kaoru/haruhi stan on main because HELLO! the whole premise of that episode is that haruhi agreed to go out with kaoru and they switched places! those r the main ones that make me go ham lol
13: What’s the best writing advice you’ve come across?
if you’re really stuck on part of a scene but know exactly what comes next, just put a placeholder sentence describing what you want to happen in and come back to it later. this may sound obvious but i think it genuinely changed my life LMAO
14: What’s the worst writing advice you’ve come across?
i think it’s a tie between jUsT wRiTe and “don’t just edit it, rewrite it completely”. the second one i think CAN be good advice but for me personally it led to a hell loop where i rewrote the same scene/chapter no less than 6 times trying to ‘perfect’ it. it was. a waste of effort and ultimately i think i would’ve been better off just moving on
24: Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?
yes but not in a LOOOONGGG time. i deleted the first ever fic i wrote at the tender age of 9/10 when i was 12 bc it was cringe and i REALLY regret that bc i’d love to look back on it. i also deleted a harry potter/percy jackson fic i wrote when i was 11 bc i got a mean review saying it had no plot which. was true. but i took it personally lmao because i was 11!! but everything else i’ve written is still up for better or for worse....sweats in 2016 hamilton fanfiction
28: Share three of your favourite fic writers and why you like them so much!
it’s so hard to narrow it down to just three!
you’re definitely one of them; i love your imagery and your use of the second person and basically just. all of your nerostasia stuff. reading your anastasia pov always makes me go DAMN ms furan is FUCKED UP!!! but like in a way that makes me think about her for hours afterwards.
i also adore @spocks-evil-godmother’s stuff!! mitch’s characterisation is so wonderful and i kinda wanna keep her shelby in a box to just poke at sometimes because she’s SO DELIGHTFULLY SHELBY!! also her “big hairy raven fic” (aka there are no comets seen) changed my life maybe and i’m a bit unhealthily obsessed w it.
and then picking a third one is beyond difficult so i’m just going to list some ao3 usernames: dollsome, ilgaksu, Silver_Queen_DoS, solitarydreaming, pistachio_cat, warfare, and afrai. they all make the cut across like 20 different fandoms bc reading their fics makes my chest ache in the most bittersweet way, and all of their writing is outstanding ! there’s definitely some i’ve forgotten and some of these are more recent discoveries than others but i cannot praise them highly enough !!!
