I jokingly thought before that reading Junie B. Jones as a kid turned me into a feminist, but unironically, it kind of did.
I honestly think it comes down to the fact that Junie B. was not only allowed to be "weird," but her character arc never concluded like other girl characters would. In other media featuring "weird girls," the girl always ended her arc tamed - by force or convince, she would be prettied up, she would smile and be polite, and she would never speak out of turn. She would be perfect then, and would shed her veneer of individuality with the freedom that is conformity. As a kid, I noticed that girls weren't permitted to be "weird" like boys were. So when I read Junie B. Jones, I loved that she was frankly just fucking weird. She said things out of turn, she was rambunctious and imaginative and she was a realistic portrayal of a little girl. I loved reading those books because the narrative taught her lessons without punishing her for being weird, if that makes sense. So often, narratives punished weird girls for the crime of being a socially unacceptable girl, not for any true wrongdoing like lying.
Anyway, I just think it's interesting, because I watched and read a ton of books and shows and movies featuring girls and women, but none of them truly empathized with (or even tried to empathize with) weird girls on their own merits and capabilities and terms, or embraced the idea of a "socially inept/unacceptable" girl without punishing her in some way for her supposed ineptitude.

Too many people want tsukasa to be viewed as socially cool. I think we need to accept that the only kind of cool wxs member is emu who befriends idols joined like 400 clubs and knows almost everyone. Emu has a million friends & most of the lines other characters have abt her are like “emu :)” meanwhile the lines abt tsukasa are all like “he is so weird.” & you want to pretend he’s cooler than her… be so serious…
Nene is also Lame & Rui is only cool to other nerds (gestures at pandemonium npcs). Crucially Tsukasa is an annoying theater kid. No annoying theater kid is popular or cool in highschool. It is central to his character and him being a weirdo who (canonically!) gets no bitches & yet somehow knows major celebrities is one of the funniest and most endearing things about him. Guy who in canon goes to school and people are like “it’s this weirdo again (sees he’s with rui) oh fuck oh no.”An (friends with everyone) & Akito (guy on sports teams) are the only cool characters at Kamiyama.

as someone who absolutely adored Sam/Melissa in Scream 5 while most everyone else was hating on her and her acting, I’ve been thinking about this for a while and can honestly write a whole dissertation on this SO
Melissa was never a bad actress in 5. I’d argue it all comes down to how Sam was written and that she was intentionally a little more stoic. And then, as soon as Melissa had more input on the character and fought to give Sam more complexity in 6, suddenly everyone loved her and was praising her for “getting acing lessons”. Someone doesn’t just improve their acting that much in the few months timespan between when 5 came out and 6 was filmed, she was always that good!
The real reason I’m writing this though is because there’s a certain subtle aspect of Melissa’s acting that I’ve never seen anyone talk about before, but it might just be my favorite thing about her portrayal of Sam. MELISSA’S BODY LANGUAGE ACTING IS INCREDIBLE AND IT’S TIME WE SPEAK ABOUT IT!!
Maybe it’s just the mental illness in me that sees the same things I do in her, but a lot of little things she does/the way she carries herself stick out to me and I love it so much. The way she crosses her arms like she’s closed off whenever something particularly bad or uncomfortable is happening (she does this in shrine scene when Tara catches her talking to Billy, at the police station after Gale is attacked, and in 5 when she begins to tell Tara about finding the diary), the way her leg bounces when she’s nervous/anxious (like when she’s talking to Danny after the ladder scene), the way she fiddles with her hands (like in the scene right after she’s attacked in the hospital in 5), it all really catches my attention and it’s so subtle but perfect.
Melissa’s crushing it as Sam, and was way before everyone finally started appreciating her performance in 6. When I see her do those things I’m like!! I do those exact things too! It may not be a big deal to anybody else and they may not even notice it, but I notice it and absolutely love it and feel seen by it. It just feels like Melissa really put the time, effort, and thought into Sam and her mannerisms to make her a more well-rounded character, and I just think we all need to talk about it more.

A major problem I think people run into when looking at terusai that might make them dislike the ship is that if you don't have an understanding of their development throughout the series, the relationship is going to seem overly shallow. Teruhashi and Saiki are not static characters, nor are they simple. Both of their growth comes from learning that they are just humans at the end of the day. Teruhashi genuinely starts to like Saiki (and all their friends) because she realizes she's not above it all like she originally thought. Saiki is attracted enough to gasp, but only when she shows this true self of hers! If you stick them together when they're still in their early characters, of course it's going to seem forced. Learning to let characters grow, especially in comedy animes, is hard for a lot of people, especially when it's not an 'in-your-face' kind of thing.

A few Castle Wulfenbach HCs
The Castle Wulfencbach students get really demanding courses, so they're always over in each others' rooms trying to make their homework work. The living room table isn't for actually eating, it's for wiring circuits.
Von Pinn responds to noise complaints. Nobody makes the mistake of violating quiet hours twice.
The sociology sparks would find the one room with the best view of the rest of student housing and lie on the floor to look out the window to people-watch in the most unobtrusive way possible. occasionally they're caught by someone walking by. They narrate every activity they see in the most David Attenborough (or GG equivalent) voice possible. When they're caught, they yell "the study has been compromised!" at the top of their lungs and then try to run away.
Most roommates try to have rules that there must be one person around who's not in a fugue at all times. This person is responsible for making sure that those who are in a fugue are fed and hydrated, since sparks can't be trusted to practice self-care. A spark will often seek out a non-spark roommate for this reason, which gives non-sparks their choice of roommates.
Non-sparks just have to accept that sometimes they'll walk out their room in the morning and run into a death ray that their roommate and friends spent all night building, as well as the sleeping bodies of their roommate and friends. Usually they will fall asleep on the floor.
If anyone has a problem with something in their room, instead of finding the person responsible for maintenance of student housing, a group of sparks will just descend upon the room to try to fix it. Sometimes it'll take hours and will be way more inefficient than asking for help, but they will eventually fix it. They will then shout out the window to the nearest person walking by that they fixed it.
(At the end of the quarter, the student who heard "WE FIXED THE TOILET" the most is awarded the Golden Plunger. This is a very useless trophy because Castle Wulfenbach students do not deign to use plungers. Why would they, when they could try pouring hydrochloric acid into the toilet bowl instead?)
If there's a meteor shower, the students try to climb up on top of the castle to get a good view. This means trying to avoid Von Pinn, who will drag them back inside because they're endangering their health.
Parties run the gamut from "so silent you could hear a pin drop" to "there are twenty sparks in fugue in my kitchen and help all the pots and pans have been melted down and where the fuck did that anvil come from". The most popular party game is "pin the phalanx on the skeleton".
