I was telling my sister about Titans, and she was like, “the whole Bruce/Dick/Jason storyline is like the prodigal son story, with the older and younger brothers' positions switched,” and I was like ohhhh???
#bruce is a VERY imperfect substitute for God the Father but CONSIDER the older brother — the heir#takes his inheritance (his supersuit and tech and weapons and porche)#and leaves telling his dad not to contact him#and the younger son receives everything that once belonged to his older brother#knowing how fortunate he is while also having to constantly hear ‘your brother did it this way’ ‘your brother was better at this’#all the whole looking up to his absent brother as his hero#he goes to meet his older brother while he is away and is met with a barrage of ‘our father doesn’t care about you or me’#‘our father will destroy you to accomplish his own ends’#‘no you don’t really know him — *I* know him’#‘being the eldest son isn’t an honour at all its a curse’#and THEN a little while later that same older brother returns and is welcomed home with open arms#their father gives EVERYTHING back to his oldest#ALL the privileges and love and honour and money and even a new supersuit#all is forgiven and given back in full — more than in full#and that’s wonderful and beautiful but what is the younger brothers perspective?#and THEN their father gives the younger brother into the older brothers care#‘go see how your older brother does it and then come back to me’#so he feels cast off by his father#and his older brother barely pays him any attention being preoccupied with his own issues#although he never abandoned their father and always did everything he was asked it’s his older brother who receives all the praise#after being beaten down again and again he finally returns to his father#and is welcomed but not with nearly as much fanfare as when his older brother returned#what is that going to do to him???#titans#titans tv show#titans tv#jason todd#dick grayson#bruce wayne#the prodigal son

when it comes to the theon/starks pov trap, so many fans just assume jon's and bran's dislike of theon must be only bc they're just smarter, better judges of character than dumbly friendly robb, even somewhow foretelling theon's later actions at wf in clash. all of them missing that the explanation for why theon was closest to robb is clearly stated in his own first pov, after we've gotten to know jon and bran.
As for their[Ned/Catelyn's] children, the younger ones had been mewling babes for most of his years at Winterfell. Only Robb and his baseborn half brother Jon Snow had been old enough to be worth his notice. -Theon I, aCoK
when you've been sent to live with an unknown family in a strange land and the only boys in that family are ~5 years younger than you, it's natural you're going to learn to ignore that age difference to socialize with the only peers available. but that doesn't mean doing the same with little babies born after your arrival with 10+yr age gaps, that's an age difference too far. jon and robb have to care for all the starklings younger than them, that's their family, but theon was never a member of that family. it's only natural to only want to hang out with your friend and not adopt their hangers-on younger siblings as yours too. idt bran or rickon can be blamed for only robb ever being brotherly toward theon (as he once retorted to maester luwin while hunting for them in the wolfswood), they're little kids, but the point is everyone was reacting in regular kid patterns. bran had no reason to warm up much to an older boy who stole robb's attention from him while having no time for bran in return. (or at least that's how he'd see it.) the notion that bran was rejecting theon from a place of moral superiority implies there was something more there to be rejected. but i think it's more likely that, had it not been for the natural results of a ~12yr age gap, if bran had been a little older or theon had been a little more willing to befriend little kids, then imo bran would have been eager to join the club with all the older boys and truly feel like "a man grown". imho, a closer reading of agot would show that this explanation was also right there in starkling pov all along.
He[Jon Snow] missed his true brothers: little Rickon, bright eyes shining as he begged for a sweet; Robb, his rival and best friend and constant companion; Bran, stubborn and curious, always wanting to follow and join in whatever Jon and Robb were doing. -Jon III, aGoT Even when he was home at Winterfell, Robb the Lord seemed to have more time for Hallis Mollen and Theon Greyjoy than he ever did for his brothers. -Bran IV, aGoT
as for theon/jon ...
The bastard was a sullen boy, quick to sense a slight, jealous of Theon's high birth and Robb's regard for him. -Theon I, aCoK
i think that jealousy for robb's regard must have been mutual, and yet we know who'd win that contest as idt robb would ever yell at jon for saving bran's life. jon had reason to envy theon's station when he was sidelined on special occassions, the same as theon envied jon's relationships with non-catelyn winterfellians. (ie, "Even the bastard Jon Snow had been accorded more honor than he had." theon had a father who was likely a miser with affection even before his wars and here's ned stark and a good part of his household treating even a bastard better than balon greyjoy treated his youngest child, almost as good as the stark heir and more welcome than the ironborn heir who should be robb's equal.) wf castle may have been huge but still not big enough for two liminal quasi-outsiders/not-quite-starks in the same official household with only so much respect, regard, and honor to go around.
there's also just a bit of a personality clash from jon's side of things. idt theon ever really knowingly or intentionally hurt jon, much less bullied him. but look at the rest of his behavior in that first theon pov chapter, casually seducing the captain's daughter and quipping about getting her pregnant, with no thought of ever seeing her again, making it unlikely he'd acknowledge, much less care for, this hypothetical greyjoy bastard. imagine how this attitude comes off to a proudly voluntary celibate teen who at least once declared he would never father a bastard. theon doesn't understand jon's baggage anymore than jon understands why theon, living under an implied threat of possible execution, might make light of beheadings. (some of their reasons for sullenness were similar but others were different enough to ensure that the wf household wasn't big enough for the both of them rather than them finding common ground.) to jon, it's all one and the same, part of theon being a selfish ass. but jon is also the same guy who later kept loving ygritte after she murdered an old man right in front of him, so it's not impossible that he could have befriended theon if they'd met later under different circumstances.
the real difference wrt the wf boys and theon is that robb was just the right mix of naturally friendly extrovert, close enough in age, and without too much baggage of his own to be theon's closest friend.
but we can also see that dislike of theon =/= distrust of theon. bran, as a little kid, is bewildered by theon's invasion of wf, not really getting what it meant that he was always ned's hostage as well as ward. jon may understand more of the background there and reiterated to himself that he never liked theon when hearing of the sack of wf, but he was still confused by the details of what he learned, thinking theon would never do that. and he was right about theon then! the boys theon killed were not bran and rickon, and it's true he would never burn and sack wf, that part was entirely ramsay. theon would emphatically never sack and burn his great war prize, which meant so much more bc he grew up there. that's so true, jon! so, far from sensing a deeper depravity in theon or always seeing him as an enemy, (which rather goes againt the false impression that theon was practically an adopted stark with reason to be equally brotherly to all ned's kids) when jon is objectively right about theon, it's actually in a positive sense, just that he was a skilled archer who wouldn't murder bran and rickon and would never sack wf. that's the jon who sees more and understands when his understanding applies to theon.

Jerry Dandridge[1985] With Dominant Male S/o
My Stories are meant for the much more mature audience, 18+.
Background: You are Charley's older brother, who returned home from college just in time, to meet the new...vampiric neighbor. but you not only have a past but you are also connected to one another.
Moive: Fright Night[1985]
Tumblr media
Ever since you hit puberty age, you have had, strange dreams, something of the past, classical clothing for both men and women, and instead of cars they had carriages. You dreamt of the same man--creature over and over but could never see his face, as it was always a blur. The dreams:....visions, never stopped even when you were in college.
Currently, you just returned home, greeting your stepmother, welcoming you, obviously, you were adopted, you looked nothing like her, she always said you had a type of 'allure' that was clearly different from others and herself.
"I'm so glad, to see you home! Come, lease, your old room is still intact, I haven't touched anything promise, only a little cleaning!" Judith: Your stepmother declared, tugging your tall frame forward and up the stairs, currently it was brightly lit outside, and you knew Charley was most likely at school.
Entering your large room was like a wave of nostalgia hitting you, there were classic horror movie posters plastered on the walls, and some of your drawings, primarily based off of your visions/dreams, but held more of a gothic texture to them instead of just plain old-century. You remember wanting it to at least fit in, and not wanting to hear your mothers questioning on why it didn't match the rest of your interests.
Slowly you turned to look at your stepmother lost in thought while looking at you, "What?" You asked, brushing your cold hand against the back of your neck bashfully, "Nothing, it's just, then you were so scrawny and young, but now look at you! My boy has turned into a man!" She was gushing with pride as she swiftly hugged out.
"Now, honey, you get some rest, dinner will be done later tonight, Charley is going to be static to see you again!" She gave you a kiss on the cheek, having to stand on her tippy toes to reach you, before she gave you one last smile and turned around, shutting your room door gently.
Setting down your suitcase, which didn't hold much in it, you take a seat on your old bed, which was sturdy and still as comfortable as when you were younger....you could only assume your mother and Charley had replaced the mattress.
Slowly without even tucking yourself in, you fell asleep quickly, the restless flight having delayed your long-deserved sleep.
<<<>>>><<<<<>>>>><<>>>>
You slowly awoke with a groan after hearing a loud thump coming from outside, slowly you groggily stand up, letting your eyes adjust to the darkness as you look out your window, and see a normal-looking man, and then an enticing one with a red scarf, carrying what seems to be a coffin.
Your mouth parts slowly, while, quickly shutting your blinds, after he nearly glanced your way. You didn't even realize you were holding your breath until you let out a huff of air
Exiting your room is what you did, Charley your step-brother, who, you basically always got along with other than the random brotherly fights.
Suddenly as you made your way toward Charley's room, you saw a short-haired girl rush passed you, glancing at you before rushing as she hurriedly put her jacket on.
Charley followed after, quick to stop once seeing his brother, "Holy crap!--[Name]!" Charley swiftly hugged you, as you both looked at each other, awe at how much you had changed.
Your brother had told you, that he had to go after his girlfriend, then would catch up with you later....Which you both did, or the past weeks.
<<<>>>><<<<<>>>>><<>>>>
Over the weeks, your mind had wandered to the strange neighbor who always seemed to come around at night. You had to admit, you were indeed creeping on him, through your window, but had no idea Charley was doing the same thing but has seen many different things than you did....more horrid things.
"You don't fucking understand!---He's a vampire [Name]! A fucking vampire!" Charley ushered out, pasting around his room, with fearful swear to drip down his forehead. Even though Charley sounded crazy...you believed him, by the simple fact of little details, the coffin, blood stains on his face. "Jerry... Dandridge--a vampire?" You murmured, Charley suddenly jumping over and handing you a cross necklace.
After a while, you had tried to calm Charley down, admitting you did indeed believe him, to distract the both of you, you decided to play some classic slasher films.
"CHARLEY, [NAME]! Come down! I want you both to meet somebody!" The muffled voice of Judith from downstairs called out, to both of her sons.
Charley rolled his eyes, pausing the film, as you got up from his bed, both of you heading downstairs, Charley letting out a low-tune whistle while doing so, clearly in a better mood after distracting his mind from the vampiric neighbor. Unlike Charley, your movements were slightly sluggish, as you let out a yawn. Charley was wearing a white button-up long-sleeve shirt, tucked into some jeans with a belt.
You were rather the opposite, With a black button-up long sleeve, with some of your buttons loose, then you had dark grey dress pants with a black belt.
After you had both made it down, you saw Judith Standing with a wide smile on her face, "Charley, [Name], this is our next-door neighbor, Jerry Dandridge." Judith spoke, causing both you and Charley to freeze, eyes roaming across the sitting vampire.
"Hello, Charley," Jerry spoke, leaning out of the large seat which covered his view, of Charley---and--oh...who was this?: Taking a closer look Jerry, visibly froze, before turning to a wide smile, even wider than the one he had given Charley. "Andd--what was it..." Jerry paused pursing his lips while shaking his head; as if he recalled some type of memorable scene. "[Name]..." Jerry slowly uttered with a low humming tone in his voice and a hint hit a sultry.
Swiftly Jerry stood up, walking to Charley and you while holding out his hand, Judith was about to say something for not taking Jerrys hand. But you unexpectedly grabbed Jerry's hand, staring right into his eyes. You were the first to pull your hand away, not Expecting Jerry to try and hold on longer; subtly of course, after realizing where he was, he let go of your hand and stared at you for a bit.
For some strange reason as you made contact with Jerry, you felt a strange pang in your chest, but you simply had mistaken it for your sheer attraction to the vampire.
"What's he doing here." Charley tried to mask his fear by avoiding eye contact with Jerry, "I invited him over for a drink." Judith answered back with a smile. "What.." Charley murmured breathlessly.
Before they could say anything else, you felt rather lightheaded when staring at Jerry for too long, as if a string of memories were trying to pour in at the same exact time, but failed because of the overwhelmingness of it all.
"Fuck." You huffed out, grunting in pain, as you nearly tripped over your feet, but regained your balance. "I need to go lie down." You struggled, seeing the amused look on Jerry's face.
"Oh--alright, I'll get you a glass of cold water, and food! You haven't eaten since you got here---oh I'm so sorry Jerry..." Judith spoke, both her eyes and Jerry watch as you stumble back up the stairs and out of their view.
<<<>>>><<<<<>>>>><<>>>>
When you made it back to your room, you just laid in bed without shutting your eyes as you stared at the ceiling, trying as much as possible to ignore the flashes of vision overcoming you. In every single vision Jerry fucking Dandridge was in them, 'the man of your dreams,' it made you scowl out in laughter at the thought...simple disbelief.
A couple hours had gone by, and as your mind had finally calmed itself with the rapid, visions, you assumed, Charley and Judith were already in bed.
What you didn't expect was for a figure to be inside your room, suddenly you shot up from your bed, sitting down instead of simply laying. "Jerry?" You asked slowly, as his frame came further into view, the moonlight striking his features carefully, in a blink of an eye, he was at your bedside, leaning down and sniffing. "You must forgive me, if I had known you were here sooner, I wouldn't have wasted so much time, teasing that little--Charley fellow...~" Jerry purred out, setting his palms on your bed as he crawled forward.
You watched Jerry's seductive gaze settle on you, his lips slowly connecting to your own. But you quickly and surely take control, griping your hand through his black curls and messing up his neatly done hair
Both of you devour each other's lips ferociously. "Jerry," You whisper into his ear while pulling on his waist, and leaving sloppy kisses down his neck. "Yesss~~" Jerry's voice slightly slurred with a sultry gaze. "I remember you." You uttered biting into his neck gently to leave your own mark on the vampire, however, you were sure it wouldn't stay.
"Good," Jerry responded, his head pulling away and tilting his head to look at you, his thumb trails upon your bottom lip parting your mouth slightly as he stared, almost as if he was making sure this wasn't a dream.
A low humming tune erupted from his throat with a wide smile on his face as he planted his head on your chest, listening to your beating heart, "My love....oh how I've missed you, my sweet mate." He purred out, gripping tighter

[cisfemale and she/her] Welcome to Aurora Bay, [SELIN DOGAN]! I couldn’t help but notice you look an awful lot like [MELISA ASLI PAMUK]. You must be the [THIRTY THREE] year old [LAWYER]. Word is you’re [RESOURCEFUL] but can also be a bit [MALICIOUS] and your favorite song is [VIGILANTE SHIT BY TAYLOR SWIFT]. I also heard you’ll be staying in [AURORA BAY DRIVE]. I’m sure you’ll love it!

name: selin dogan
nickname: sel
age: 33
gender: cis female
sexual orientation: bisexual
occupation: corporate lawyer
residence: aurora bay drive
Selin was born in Sirince, Turkey to a single mother who was already raising her older half-brother, Ayden.
When Selin turned fifteen, her mother died after a short battle with MS. Selin had taken care of her since her diagnosis and watched it steal her mother away little by little.
Soon thereafter, Sel became more cold as she realized how cruel life could be to the most undeserving people.
Her brother, the only family she had left, had already been living in the states while trying to pursue his career as a film maker. Despite it not being his plan, he took in Selin and decided to leave his internship in order to find a job to support the both of them.
The move from Turkey to America was not the easiest on Selin as she was often on the outskirt of friend groups or the butt of jokes she didn't fully comprehend.
tw: stillbirth: At the age of nineteen, she got pregnant by someone she liked who'd lied about his feelings towards her and had no intention of raising their daughter. Her brother stepped up and promised that he would support the both of them - but at seven months pregnant, Selin got devastating news at the ultrasound.
tw: stillbirth and car accident: Three months after losing her baby, she got the devastating news that her brother died in a car accident while returning home after a night out.
After losing the only person that held her to this town, she packed her bags and left to move to Aurora Bay as a far different person than she'd been when she first arrived to America. She isn't as forgiving with people as she once was and often prefers to keep them at a distance.
The money she received from her brother death helped her with her tuition for law school and she immediately dived into her work and started a practice. It was a few years later that she met Bora Winters.
Despite being alone for years, Bo was someone who managed to disarmed her. He didn't shy away from the jagged sides of her personality and managed to find the hidden softness that still remained. She married him without knowing the first betrayal had occurred before the ink dried on their marriage certificate.
After a year of unsuccessful attempts at having a child, their relationship came to an abrupt end when he found out that she had been halting their attempts with birth control since the very beginning.
Their relationship has since turned callous and cruel as they navigate living under the same roof.

Castor was born to nomadic parents who settled in the farmlands of Nottingham, England. Later, they welcomed his baby sister into the world and their family of four had finally become complete.
For most of his adolescence, the Castellanos were known around their small town as the mythical "swamp people" because they didn't believe in conformity and resisted modern technology and civilization. They were firm believers that in living off the same land their ancestors sprang from, they remained the purest versions of themselves.
This often meant that Castor and his sister were pretty much seen as social pariahs in their community and were often targeted by local teens who would make the trek out to where they lived to taunt them for "fun."
Meanwhile, all they wanted to do was be normal. To go to school, to make friends, to essentially live like modern day citizens. Unfortunately for them, that wasn't in the cards. At least not yet.
One night while Castor and little sister Iris were playing, they stumbled along the dirt road of their nearby town and witnessed a grizzly murder. Horrified, Iris screamed behind the bushes they hid behind, attracting the attention of the sleek, mesmerizing assassins. Shortly after they made their way toward them (to silence them), Castor urged his sister to run while he bought her some time.
He returned home later that night soaking wet and exhausted to parents who berated him for putting himself and his younger sister Iris in danger.
For a short while, it seemed like the dust had settled after that night. Until one of the gun slinging, assassins stumbled upon their home in his search of a phone or way out. When Castor's father Ivan, refused to offer him refuge or help, he got angry and killed Ivan's wife right in front of him and his two children.
Following that fatal night, something in Castor snapped and he had never been the same since. Taking a life, especially in front of that young of an age had lasting, traumatic effects. Just to cope, he would sometimes disassociate and imagine he was somebody else. It helped to combat the nightmares that flared up, until eventually they all went away. Or were replaced by a growing list of new ones.
As their family got older, Castor developed insane hunting skills thrust upon him by their father. He no longer longed for a life he would never get to have. His father taught him how to survive, how to enhance his tracking abilities to an almost borderline supernatural degree.
Unlike Castor, Iris however, distanced herself from her brother and their father. She still craved a modest, civilized life. Which is why at age 17, she disappeared from their family without a trace. She stayed hidden for a good while until Castor caught up with her following their father's death in 2018.
They stayed together long enough to catch up on their time apart and to lay their father's body to rest. But after a year, she was gone again. And this time, she made sure not a trace of her would be found.
In her absence, Castor decided it was time to put his skills to good use by developing his own personal business. One that operates by his own set of rules and not that of anyone else's.
He now uses his skill set to find missing persons all across the country to make up for not being able to locate his own remaining flesh and blood.
This has led him to becoming a tracker and occasional mercenary for hire. Not only do the gigs pay well (being that most of the rewards typically start at 10 grand and upward) but, it's a way for him to satiate the inner monster he's indelibly become. The same monster that he won't acknowledge, his father had made him into.

Just a short little fic I made for @glassesblu because of a bad day at work. (○´・д・)ノ~(>_<。) It's light, fluffy, and hopefully it makes your day a little bit better.
Title: Tickles for Nobori-nii-san Word count: 1,200
The door to their apartment opened, shut with a soft click, and then he heard silence.
Normally, when Nobori returned home after Kudari, he announced his arrival with a boisterous call of "I'm home!" eager to hear Kudari's return call of 'Welcome back!' It was, of course, reversed when Kudari was the one coming home later. Either way, they always made sure to be loud enough that they could hear each other anywhere in their apartment. It was a joyful reminder that they were together again, being forced separate for work or a solo shopping trip.
Curious, Kudari turned his head slightly, calling out "Welcome home, Nobori-nii-san?" He turned the usual confident exclamation into a question, with Archeops making a quizzical chirp alongside him. Normally, he and his brother would work the same days, even if their shifts didn't completely line up. But, yesterday Kudari had a fever, and it hadn't broken until this morning, long after his shift would have started. To make up for it, he spent the day caring for their pokémon and had delivery timed for around when his brother would get home.
Silence still, outside of the rustling of a coat being taken off. He heard a heavy sigh moments before his dejected older brother came into sight. His shoulders, usually strong enough to carry the world, were lowered. He'd taken off his cap at the door, running a hand through his hair. Eyes shut, he looked like he hadn't slept for a week, despite only last night having been affected by Kudari's illness. And even then, Nobori had looked alright this morning.
"Nii-san?" he tried again, as his twin rounded the couch. Nobori's frown was deep, an actual frown compared to how his mouth normally rested. In response, the corners of his mouth dipped some as well, worry evident in his eyes. It had been a long time since he had seen his brother look so defeated.
Without a word, Nobori flopped onto the couch, draped over his lap. It looked quite uncomfortable, and Nobori turned to face the back cushions, legs pulled up. Not allowing his brother to be uncomfortable after what was clearly a rough day, he shuffled towards one end. Archeops climbed up to perch on the back, and once his adjustments were finished, Nobori's head rested in his lap. Placing one hand over Nobori's eyes, he used his other hand to caress through his hair.
"I am sorry, Kudari, to make you-"
"Shhh, don't apologize." Nobori brought his hand up to touch his wrist in gratitude. He knew what Nobori was trying to say, anyway. His silly brother always felt the need to apologize for anything he thought inconvenienced someone, no matter how much he needed it. Nobori thought himself a burden for things he would never judge anyone else for. In this case, he was probably apologizing for making Kudari fuss over him after just being sick. "I'm here for you."
Nobori stayed quiet for a while after that, and he filled the empty air with gently humming a few of Nobori's favorite songs. Keeping his hand over Nobori's eyes, he caressed and massaged any pressure points to relieve his twin's tension. Slowly, slowly, he coaxed the stress to leave his beloved older brother's frame, and he felt him relax.
Smiling, he ducked down to press a soft kiss to Nobori's lips, comforted by the gentle upturn of his brother's mouth. Eager to make that smile wider, he peppered a few more kisses there, before moving to press more to his brother's forehead and temples. He blew a puff of air into Nobori's bangs, followed by a peck to the exposed skin. A nuzzle pulled a chuckle from Nobori, who blindly reached up to caress his cheek with the hand closest to him.
"Kudari," Nobori said, his sigh of contentment now. "I'm home."
"It's a bit late for that, Nii-san, but welcome home," he chuckled, still not moving his hand from Nobori's eyes. Tickling behind his brother's right ear, he laughed harder as Nobori squirmed in surprise, a bubble of laughter and startled sounds mixing together.
"Ku-Kudari! No! S-Stop!" his brother all but squawked, and he finally removed his hand from its place so he could spread the tickles out to parts not yet desensitized. Nobori rolled in place on the couch, trying to get out of his twin's grasp to avoid the tickles. But he loved winning more than (almost) anything else, and his prize was his big brother's joy, vocalized in laughs and gasped pleas to stop tickling him.
"What's the password?" Leaning in, he mercilessly continued, Nobori having tried to sit up as another attempt to escape him. But too bad! He anticipated the exact movement of his brother, pressing a kiss to his cheek as a consolation prize, even as he continued.
Laughing through tears, Nobori gasped out his best guess, "Kudari is an angel!"
Pausing momentarily, he gave Nobori a touched expression, cheeks dusting with pink. "Aw! Nii-san! You're so sweet!" A beat, and then he leaned forward, catching Nobori in a particularly sensitive part. "But wrong!"
"Ack!" Nobori almost toppled off the couch in his attempt to avoid the onslaught, but Kudari tugged him back into his arms to blow at the skin behind his ear. "Kudari is the best!"
"Wrong again! But I am the best, so I will stop." Nobori clung to him, trying to get his laughter under control. He nuzzled his older brother, giving him a squeeze. "The password was 'Kudari has the best big brother.'"
Finally calming himself enough to speak more evenly, Nobori stayed in his arms. "That's a very long password to ask of someone who is being tickled." He pressed a kiss to Kudari's jaw, returning the squeeze just as tightly. His day still seemed to weigh on his mind, but at least he didn't look like he was about to cry anymore. HIs brother was strong, someone he looked up to above anyone else in the world, and to see him look as defeated as before hurt.
"But true!" He kissed all over Nobori's cheeks and forehead, before his brother tilted his head and pulled him down for a real kiss. Gently, he let his brother take control of their kiss, setting the pace to slow and sweet. Face cradled in Nobori's hands, his older brother's thumbs caressed his cheeks, fingertips brushing his neck.
Once they finally parted from the kiss, Nobori put their foreheads together, staring deep into his eyes. "I love you, Kudari. Thank you." When Nobori smiled at him, his heart soared and he nodded, their foreheads rubbing against each other.
"I love you too, Nobori!" In the end, Nobori didn't tell him what had caused him so much grief that day, but when he returned to work the next day, he made sure to lighten his brother's load at every opportunity. He jumped in whenever the depot agents brought work to his brother, and encouraged Nobori to join him on the Multi Trains instead of running their separate lines.
If he found out who had made his brother so sad, they would regret it.

My brother and I ride to Bree for shelter from the rain and the wraths of Sauron, as we galloped through the forest we finally see the lights of Bree. We get to the gates by foot and a man answers it "what business's do you children have at this hour?" my brother answers "my sister and I only seek shelter from the rain sir." the man opens the gate and gives us directions to the inn "the prancing pony is only a few minutes away." we thanked the man and walked there. We arrived, took our horses to the stable, see a lot of men and a table with little men.
We got to the man behind the desk "Excuse us sir one room please." B/N said placing a small bag of silver on the desk to which the man smiled "ahhh always happy to help the young." he said taking the bag. We get food from the buffet but couldn't find seats except for two empty ones at the little mens table "are these seats taken?" I asked "no go on ahead." one with black curls said with a smile B/N and I smiled back and sat down "I'm Y/N." I introduced myself "I'm B/N we're siblings." the four men smiled "I'm Underhill these are my friends Peregrine Took, Merridoc Brandybuck and Samwise Gamgee." the one known as Merridoc spoked "call us Merry and Pippin." then the one named Samwise said "And call me Sam." we talked while eating until Pippin got up to get a drink (much to Sam's annoyance) as we talked Sam sees a man staring at us "that fellow has done nothing but stared at us since we've gotten here." Sam said. We turned to see a man in a cloak smocking a pipe.
Everything happened so fast we have learned that the man is a ranger going by Strider, I saw strange visions of the Nazgûl, Sauron himself and everything in ruined followed by the whisperers of "Baggins.", pippin telling strange men that he knows a Baggins, Underhill rushing to get him, a gold ring falling on his finger then the visions happening again but this time Underhill was with me and my powers went out of control, then Strider grabbed him then me but as he's dragging us he whispers in my ear "that's a great power you have within you." he says in awe but it turned into surprise when he saw my necklace "you are from Tara." he said holding my necklace in his palm.
Later in Rivendell no one's POV:
Y/N and B/N are in awe by the beauty of Rivendell as Strider leads them, Sam, Merry, and Pippin threw the forest "welcome to the last homely elven city in Arda Imladris commonly known as.", "Rivendell." the two teens and three hobbits said at the same time "brother we get to see the elves." Y/N said to B/N who nodded.
Y/N's POV:
We are finally in the palace and we immediately fall in love with the place "ahh Estel you have returned and with five more companions." an elf with shoulder length black hair said as he smiles at us "it is an honor to be here my lord," I said as B/N nodded "it is always a delight to have children around Imladris." as he says that B/N and I decided to introduce ourselves "I am Y/N, Princess Y/N of Tara." I said then it was B/N's turn "and I am B/N, Prince B/N of Tara." the elf was shocked and bowed "I Lord Elrond am honored to have the heir and heiress of Aldon in my home." we shook our heads and placed our hands on Lord Elrond's shoulders "there is no need for that." B/N said I nodded my head but then I see the four hobbits come over "When were you going to tell us you were royalty?" Pippin asked in shock, Merry had the same shocked look as Pippin, Frodo and Sam on the other hand where both in awe this made me giggle and B/N snort "we where Keeping our identities a secret from the people of Bree." B/N said.
At the meeting of the ring:
We are attending a meeting to disgust the rings fate, I sit in between B/N and a very handsome elf who I learned is a prince named Legolas. A man named Boromir started a fight by saying that the ring is a gift and asking why we couldn't just use it then he Insulted Strider making Legolas angry "he is no mere ranger. He is Aragorn son of Arathorn. You owe him your allegiance."As he says this mines and B/N's eyes widened in awe "Isildir's heir." I say "King of Gondor." B/N said then we hear Aragorn say "Havo dad Legolas." as Aragorn says that Legolas sits but is still glaring at Boromir "Gondor has no king. Gondor needs no king." It was decided that the ring must be destroyed but a dwarf came up with an axe "then what are we waiting for?" He strikes the ring with his axe but it shattered and I saw Sauron's eye making me clutch my head B/N used his magic shield to protect us from the shards making everyone stare in awe but B/N dismissed them and said "that ring must be destroyed in mount doom." multiple nods of agreement were seen "you are right Prince B/N of Tara son of Aldon." Elrond said making everyone's eyes (except The hobbits and Aragorn's) widened but I spoked "who will take the ring though?" I asked making everyone look at me "excellent question princess Y/N of Tara daughter of Aldon." sadly an argument started again followed by insults but Frodo broke it "I will take the ring to Mordor. Though- I don't know the way." Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Boromir went up to Frodo and offered him their help B/N and I did the same "and our powers." we said at the same time, Merry, Pippin, and Sam joined in creating the fellowship "where are we going?" Pippin asked making me and B/N giggle.
End of flashback no one’s POV:
It has been a months since the fellowship came together and here they are setting camp and resting for the day with Aragorn and Legolas giving you, B/N and the hobbits strict orders on not getting dirty. After setting up camp B/N and the hobbits pulled a funny prank on you by putting a frog on your head so here you are, you chasing them while you all have a great laugh but sadly you all ended up tripping on a tree root, rolled down the hill and then flied into a mud puddle "oh no Aragorn and Legolas are going to kill us." You said in terror, your all struggling to get out of the slippery mud but the more you’ve tried the muddier you got, you all finally managed to get out of the mud until B/N said "we got to get cleaned up before Aragorn and Legolas sees us." he said fearfully grabbing Merry and Pippin while you grabbed Frodo and Sam. You raced as fast as you could to the river while miraculously sneaking past the camp to get yours and B/N's bags with your only spare cloths and soap's with out Aragorn, Boromir or Legolas seeing you while Gandalf and Gimli had a few smokes and Aragorn cooking while talking with Legolas and Boromir. You get to the river and began peeling of your muddy clothes. You washed all the mud from your bodies and hair the hobbits washed their clothes and hung them in hopes of them getting dried while the sun is still out faster. After B/N and you finished up you put on your spare clothes and began drying up the hobbits clothes with your powers.

After the clothes are finally dried the hobbits get out of the river to put them on.
Your all are about to race back to the camp but B/N and you bumped into broad chest.
You ran into Legolas while the Hobbits and B/N ran into Aragorn and Boromir who had amused grins on their faces "so I take that I wasn't heard clearly on my orders to stay clean children?" Aragorn asked in a scary calm voice. You. were. terrified "WE WERE JUST PLAYING AROUND, THEN WE TRIPED AND THEN FELL INTO A MUD PUDDLE WE'RE REALLY SORRY ARAGORN." Pippin screamed as the rest of you are fearfully nodding but you spoke up "It was my fault Aragorn I was chasing them after they pulled a prank on me, but it was harmless." Aragorn and Legolas faced palmed in annoyance as Legolas said "you six are going to be the death of us." You, B/N and the hobbits had your heads down in shame "B/N! Y/N! you two are a princess and prince I expected better from both of you." Legolas said crossing his arms while Aragorn nodded in agreement "you two are forbidden from using your powers indefinitely, from now on you will be training under me and Legolas." You and B/N nodded your heads and said "yes sir." Aragorn nodded in approval and turned to the hobbits "you four no second breakfast for a month." the hobbits all screamed dramatically "Noooooo." then Pippin being the youngest Hobbit (though older then me and B/N) said "you monsters, how will we survive?" Legolas chuckled while scooped you up into his arms bridal style causing you to squeak in embarrassment, B/N and the hobbits to giggle and Aragorn, Legolas and Boromir to chuckle. "Legolas put me down! Aragorn tell him off." this only made them laugh more "now now princess Y/N we wouldn't want our youngest addition to get dirty again." Legolas said smirking making you blush until you heard Boromir tell your brother and the hobbits "And don't think you five are off the hook either." he says tucking Merry and Pippin under one arm while grabbing B/N by the ear with his free hand, with Aragorn scooping up Frodo and Sam.
Back at camp:
After dinner it was time for bed but Legolas and Aragorn decided to help you and B/N braid your hair while Boromir put the hobbits to sleep "what are we going to do with you six?" Gandalf asked chuckling with Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Boromir while B/N and you blushed in embarrassment "Children these days." Gimli said taking a puff from his pipe.

PROLOGUE
If there is one thing we learned during our time with the Metkayina, it is that this war is not going to stop. The Sky People will keep coming, and coming, and coming until they either get what they want... Or we get it through to them that Pandora is ours. That they are not welcomed. At least, not anymore. We stayed a while longer with the Metkayina to help Tonowari and Ronal rebuild the destruction we brought with us to show our gratitude for their hospitality, and for fighting with us instead of throwing us out to fend for ourselves. The Sky People have retreated to their home base on Pandora, but like a beast in hibernation, they will wake. Soon. Now that I finally understand that running will get us nowhere–that danger will always find us somehow–it was time to begin planning. Building. It was time to return home.
Our eldest, Neteyam, seemed to recover from the bullets he took out there at first, but as the days passed, his legs stayed numb. I never knew a pain so intense as seeing your own child suffer the exact same thing you did so long ago. I couldn't save him from it. And looking at him was a mirror into my own past that I had almost forgotten. However, on our way back to the Omaticaya, we found Timi and Neteyam began smiling again.
We were hunting in the forest near where the old Home Tree was when I saw one of the most intricate little hunting traps that I had ever seen. Then the more I looked, the more of them I saw. Everywhere. Some big enough to catch something the size of a rabbit and others small enough for a toad. These woods had been vacant last time I was around, and I needed to know who it was that had made this their new home. The trees were great for a stakeout.
Once the eclipse came, that's when I saw him.
He crawled on all fours to each trap, examining each one for prey before resetting them after he had tucked the catch into his little leaf satchel. I couldn't believe it – he was even smaller than our youngest, Tuk. But with the shape of his tail and the patterns on his body, there was no doubt: he was one of us. I jumped down into the fauna below and he scuttled back, hissing at me like a viperwolf pup. Then the moment I spoke in our language, he froze. He almost couldn't believe it. He leapt into my arms full of tears: he had been all alone for a long time. Turns out his parents had run away during the fall of our Home Tree and were separated from the clan. Lost, yet with hope, they made a new home in a nearby grove and by the Great Mother, had him. Timi. When he was only four, they went to hunt... and that was the last he saw of them alive. He found their bodies a week later, mauled and almost unrecognizable. He spent the next two years alone with nothing but the knowledge they had left in him. I brought him with me and for Neytiri and the kids, it was love at first sight. He was dubbed the fifth Sully and the Omaticaya rejoiced in the return of one of their own.
Timi kept Neteyam company with the stories of his life alone in the forest and of the simplicity of his home when his parents were alive. In return, Neteyam told of all that happened between the fall of Home Tree and where we are now. He laughs with Timi. For that alone I am forever grateful that he is ours. The girls, Kiri and Tuk, were thrilled to have a new baby brother; a new sibling to share everything with. Spider also took to him with ease and for moments it is as if he were a kid again, tugging on tails and playing tag. As for Lo'ak, well, he's still learning how to be an older brother.
"Patience, Lo'ak," Neteyam says.
Lo'ak always rolls his eyes.
It's now time to think bigger – grander. The Sky People need to lose to the point that they would rather never return than try us again. And Neytiri, as much as I hate it, is right: none of us can run, so all of us must fight.

2. Untitled 📖 (a, s) - idol nj

Tumblr media
1. Belong  📚 ✅ (a, f, s) - exes au, summer romance
Series Summary: Being an actor has always been your dream. Pursuing it meant many things - leaving the town where you grew up, distancing yourself from your family that had fallen apart, and saying goodbye to the man who made you feel what home was like. When you decide to finally return after being away for so long, you meet Min Yoongi again, and you’re reminded of the summer romance from 8 years ago with the college basketball superstar whose broken dream pushed you away. As you find yourself spending time with him, you’re left to wonder if love changes, if it gives second chances, or if it’s just another illusion that will hurt the both of you the second time around.

B. Planned Works (not in order of posting)
1. TBD (single dad JK, childhood friends, neighbors)
Summary: Not long after you move back to your parents’ home, your childhood friend and neighbor moves back to his parents’ home, too, with a daughter in tow. Between missing your exes and getting your own lives together, you and Jungkook find comfort in each other, in more ways than one.
2. TBD (best friend’s brother, fake dating au)
Summary: It’s hard falling for Jin, your best friend, who doesn’t seem to see you the same way. What’s harder is when said best friend asks you to fake date his younger brother Jungkook to appease their grandparents during their visit home. It’s messy and complicated but you’d do anything for your best friend, even if that includes hurting yourself and his brother in the process

Day 3: Jon Snow ( his love for Arya)
I don't think that I can add to this particular topic any more than what my fellow bloggers already have.
Textually Jon and Arya's relationship is something that is so rich that it has become a point of a massive confluence of a great many rhetoric.
For example we have Jon, the "bastard" of Winterfell. The young boy who has always felt unwanted, out of place and like a black blot in Catelyn Stark's family. Hence he yearns to know the person who had birthed him. 'The mother'. The woman who has been a tight lipped secret and a point of speculation among many.
Not my mother, Jon thought stubbornly. He knew nothing of his mother; Eddard Stark would not talk of her. Yet he dreamed of her at times, so often that he could almost see her face. In his dreams, she was beautiful, and highborn, and her eyes were kind.
Your half brothers, a voice inside reminded him. And Lady Stark, who will not welcome you. There was no place for him in Winterfell, no place in King's Landing either. Even his own mother had not had a place for him. The thought of her made him sad. He wondered who she had been, what she had looked like, why his father had left her. Because she was a whore or an adulteress, fool. Something dark and dishonorable, or else why was Lord Eddard too ashamed to speak of her?
And yet ironically, this boy would be the one person (in the current generation) to best know exactly what kind of woman his mother had been. He would know her eyes, her temperament and even to some extent her principles too. For his mother, Lyanna Stark, has found her doppelganger in her niece Arya- both in appearance and in spirit.
And of course Jon has Arya's love ( I mean it here in a platonic sense). And what a love it is! It is almost a boon given to him to make up for what has been so unceremoniously taken away. And this love that is shared between them goes with him beyond the walls of winterfell and bleeds into his future relationships.
His first encounter with Ygritte goes like this:
Jon could see fear and fire in her eyes. Blood ran down her white throat from where the point of his dirk had pricked her. One thrust and it's done, he told himself. He was so close he could smell onion on her breath. She is no older than I am. Something about her made him think of Arya, though they looked nothing at all alike. "Will you yield?" he asked, giving the dirk a half turn.
Then again:
"I never meant to steal you," he said. "I never knew you were a girl until my knife was at your throat."
"If you kill a man, and never mean t', he's just as dead," Ygritte said stubbornly. Jon had never met anyone so stubborn, except maybe for his little sister Arya.
Later he has this to say about Val:
Val looked the part and rode as if she had been born on horseback. A warrior princess, he decided, not some willowy creature who sits up in a tower, brushing her hair and waiting for some knight to rescue her.
And again:
Lonely and lovely and lethal, Jon Snow reflected, and I might have had her.
It is clear to see who has influenced Jon's taste in his love interests. And it goes both ways. In Arya's POV we have this interaction:
Dusk was settling as they stopped to rest... "I'm cold and wet," Hot Pie complained. "... We could have us a fire—"
"NO!" Arya and Gendry both said, at the exact same instant. Hot Pie quailed a little. Arya gave Gendry a sideways look. He said it with me, like Jon used to do, back in Winterfell. She missed Jon Snow the most of all her brothers.
While Arya has had positive interactions with almost all the male members of her family, it is Jon with whom she had the strongest bond (they could finish each other's sentence). And this thus becomes relevant as canonically Grrm has written a love song for the gendrya pairing.
Beyond these matters of the heart or perhaps as an extension of it: both Jon and Arya consider 'home' to be situated in a person. Throughout the series Arya has tried to return to Winterfell in hopes of reuniting with her family. But another wish that she has had, is to go north to the Wall, to reunite with Jon.
When at last she slept, she dreamed of home. The kingsroad wound its way past Winterfell on its way to the Wall, and Yoren had promised he'd leave her there with no one any wiser about who she'd been. She yearned to see her mother again, and Robb and Bran and Rickon . . . but it was Jon Snow she thought of most. She wished somehow they could come to the Wall before Winterfell, so Jon might muss up her hair and call her "little sister."
Her strongest belief is that even if the whole world rejects her for being unsatisfactory, she would always, always have Jon and indeed in ADWD we see the Lord Commander of Night's Watch proclaim that Arya's home is with him.
Bring her home, Mance. I saved your son from Melisandre, and now I am about to save four thousand of your free folk. You owe me this one little girl.
This then brings into question the intensity of Jon's love for Arya. In AGoT Jon tries to desert in favour of joining Robb's quest for vengeance but ultimately he turns back and decides that the time has passed and he can longer interfere in the matters of the realm.
And yet in Adwd we see him risking his position as the lord commander (something that is highly coveted by individuals who have no hope to rise high in life within the constraints of the westerosi world order) of an 800 year old institution to save his 'sister' from the cruel clutches of Ramsay Bolton.
However Jon's decision to violate the neutrality of the NW has not been an easy one. There is a dilemma presented in the series across numerous povs: the constant push and pull of the two opposite facets in life, the facets of duty/honour vs love/desire of the heart. It has played a part in Arianne Martell and Arys Oakheart's relationship. It is present in Jaime arc: Cersei vs his duty as the commander of Kingsguard and I don't know if it can be said, but perhaps it was present in Rhaegar and Lyanna's storyline as well...so it is only fair that it should play a part in their son's life too.
Jon struggles throughout ADwD, going back and forth debating the worth of his honour and the depth of his love for his little sister:
"I have no sister." The words were knives. What do you know of my heart, priestess? What do you know of my sister?
I don't think anything else can summarize Jon's internal conflict more than these lines. But ultimately, with the threat of Bolton wanting his bride back, what triumphs over everything else is Jon's heart. He thus manipulates Stannis into form an alliance with the mountain clans, with the northern lords so that the Baratheon may participate in his quest to rescue Arya.
And of course! the sheer magnitude of this act is felt by his Black Brothers. The fact that a lord commander can neutralize the Watch's position as an nonaligned institute is unthinkable! And so Jon dies. He dies with his brothers betraying him. With the thought of Arya.

Hey uh- What about a platonic SDC with a ghost sibling(or friend if you want) who showed up after they all went back home? And maybe Dio with a ghost sibling if you,,, if you want-
SDC (+ Dio) w a Ghost! Sibling
Of course anon! This concept sounds so cool! I've tried going along w canon ghost behavior for jjba, but it may not be entirely accurate!
Warnings: Given descriptions of how reader died, vaguely angsty, and Phantom Blood spoilers for Dio's Part
Jotaro Kujo
You were Jotaro's younger sibling, having to stay home sick while him and your grandfather went to Egypt
Sadly, you died before Dio was defeated
You were younger and had even more of a sensitive mind/heart compared to Holy. Therefore, your stand and fever ended up killing you
But you were able to haunt the Kujo household
You couldn't leave your mom alone and you couldn't bear from separating from Jotaro without a proper goodbye
After Egypt, Jotaro came home, stressed out and overwhelmed with the fact that you were gone settling in. He got the phone call over the trip and he mostly denied it until now
Of course he visited Holy, he was happy that she was better, but he made sure to stop by your bedroom
What he wasn't expecting was you laying down, throwing a rubber bouncy ball at the ceiling in boredom. You looked deathly, sicker than he last saw you
He had to deal with so much bs throughout Egypt, everything ended up crashing in on him. He only mumbled your name before tearing up.
You were alive somehow. You look like death, but you looked up at him and broke out with the widest grin.
You wasted no time running up to Jotaro and hugging him (to the best of your ability)
He needed a day to fully comprehend this. After that, he was able to ask you what the hell happened and you explained that you were dead, but turned into a ghost
He hugged you close, apologizing that he didn't bother to check up on you throughout the trip
It was weird getting used to your presence. Yea you acted like you normally did, but knowing that you were dead was haunting
Since you were manifesting your stand when you died, you were able to see Star Platinum when he came out
Which is what happened when Jotaro was locked in his room, studying for his Marine Biology course
He still wanted to spend a lot of time with you and SP is an easy way to do so
Noriaki Kakyoin
You were an older sibling that died, haunting the Kakyoin family home
His parents had no clue you were still with them, but since Noriaki was a stand user, he was able to see and interact with you
You made Kakyoin's childhood a little more bearable, you gave him the friendship he lacked
You were glad that Noriaki was able to see you, it got lonely in the house
Sometimes you ask him to send messages to your parents since they didn't have the ability to see you like your brother
The past 50 days were horrible, everyone was anxious to know where the red head went off too
But when Kakyoin returned from Egypt, he could feel the house's temperature drop considerably. The melancholy atmosphere that hung around ever since he left finally hitting him
You tackled him from behind when you first saw him, hugging him tightly
You thought he died, it was a very emotional reunion
You forced him to sit in his room with you, refusing to let him go until he finally explained what happened when he left
Jean-Pierre Polnareff
You were the oldest out of the Polnareff siblings, usually taking the role as a protective sibling
You died along with Sherry, trying to defend her from her murderer
In your final moments, that was when Jean-Pierre found you two
Your soul ended up attaching to him, your protective nature growing stronger since your brother was the only sibling left
You had no choice but to be apart of the trip to Egypt
You enjoyed your time on the trip. To your surprise, Iggy was kinder to you, and seeing J. Geil's look of terror at seeing you again in his final moments was satisfying
You and Pol made sure to celebrate the occasion, having a heartfelt hug and going out to a nearby bar
Although you couldn't drink, you enjoyed it as much as him
Muhammad Avdol
You haunted your father's secluded island
You mostly took care of the property, the chickens having no clue that there was a ghost feeding them in the morning
When Muhammad arrived on the island, having to what looked like a bullet to the head you panicked
You thought he was dead as well and unable to pass on
He had to get you to sit down and he explained to you that he was on a mission with a friend and was sent here to heal for the time
Your duties didn't change when Avdol was around, only the place seemed livelier
You two talked about what exactly Avdol's mission was and reminiscing about your childhood
It was a short moment you made sure to cherish, having any sort of human interaction was welcome for you
After Egypt, Muhammad decided to live with you. He felt bad that you lived a solitary (after) life and wanted to keep you company
It was also a relaxing space to live in, perfect to calm down from the hectic journey he went on
Dio Brando
You were the younger Brando sibling, staying loyal to him til the end of Phantom Blood
You failed to find safety in enough time and died on the boat while Dio was able to hide out in the coffin
Dio didn't know that you passed away until 50 years later, failing to find any records of you or any offspring when exploring the area
Truth is, you never left him. You attached yourself to Dio and have been following him around the entire time
When Dio obtained his stand, he was close to tears when he saw that you were with him. Like how??? Huh??
But he was also mad at you at first when you explained to him what happened
You could've at least tried to make your presence known?? He only ever grieved for his mother and you, but it only wasted his time apparently
But he was able to let it slide, keeping you around instead of researching how to get rid of spirits like you
Although he would sometimes threaten that, even though he wouldn't ever go through with it. You were one of the few things that kept him happy in childhood, you definitely took after your mother when growing up
He let you roam around the mansion and it was exciting meeting and interacting with the various stand users
Around the mansion, Dio commanded everyone to treat you with the same respect as if you were alive
Even though he had no idea if stands could actually hurt you or not, it was a general rule that if he saw anyone use their stand on you, they would be receiving an immediate punishment
You enjoyed your stay at the mansion, living out a childhood dream of being royalty. It made the idea of being stuck in some sort of purgatory not so bad

It was strange for y/n. This world would be strange for anyone really. But she was different. At only a mere 7 years old when the world went to shit she struggled as did many others. With the recent loss of her father - one she didn't entirely understand - still protruding through her heart, it was hard - so hard.
When it happened she was at daycare. The teaching assistant tried and successfully ate the teacher in front of her. She was next and was so close to being eaten until Shane rushed in. He kicked Ms Twune and grabbed y/n. Her mom sobbed at the sight of her, covered in blood and the tears smothering her daughters face. Carl was shocked too. He wanted nothing more than to protect his little sister. His dad always used to tell him that that was his duty - his job. And he hated how he had failed in this moment.
They made it to the quarry soon after. Y/n thought the group was nice - well mostly. The Dixon brothers scared her was what she told her brother or any of the children she had befriended. But she was lying. Yes, she was scared but only of Merle. He was creepy and mean to anyone he saw. Daryl was somewhat the same but he always found himself being nicer to the young child. And often kept her company when Lori and Shane went for a ‘walk’ in the woods. Glenn was another she found herself drawn to. He unlike Daryl happily invited her company. Glenn was sweet and funny. He never failed at making her laugh till she felt like she was going to pee. They were good friends which came to a fault when he had to go on runs. She’d scream and cry and refuse to let go of him because she was afraid that what happened to her father would happen to him.
That’s what happened earlier that morning. Glenn and a few others were going into Atlanta, despite her dismay. Glenn assured her he’d be fine, which she didn't believe and continued her tantrum.
“Can yer’ shut that damn baby up?” Merle spat covering his ears.
Shane shot him a threatening glare while Glenn stayed preoccupied with the distraught girl. “Hey, it's okay. I’m coming back,” He insisted holding her tightly at his hip, “I promise you, sweet girl.”
“No, b-b-but dada promise too a-a-and h-he,” She stopped herself, sobs erupting from her small body.
“I know sweet girl, I know. But I’ll be back I know I will.” Glenn placed her on the back of the RV, “I tell you what I’ll bring you back some of your favourite sweeties, huh? Would you like that?”
Giddily she nodded at his proposition, “Yes! Yes!”
“Alright, then I’ll bring back some for you, okay?” She nodded smiling cheerfully, “I love you, kid.”
“I luv you too, dumbass,” y/n giggled.
Glenn looked around cautiously hoping no one heard that “Hey sweet girl you can't say that.”
“W-what? Why?” the child began to cry again, “Y-y-you say it.”
“I know b-but its adult words okay? Not y/n words. When you're older, alright?” She nodded her head again kissing his cheeks softly and hugging him. “Thank you, sweet girl. I’ll see you soon,” He kissed the top of her head and started towards the car smiling as she shouted, “With sweeties!”
The group returned hours later bearing a new man instead of Merle. Y/n waited patiently for Glenn and the aforementioned sweets. "Gen!" She screamed happily still unable to say his name fully. The man sprinted over to her, pulling her into a much-needed cuddle after the day he had.
"It's Glenn, sweetheart," He chuckled while correcting.
"Oh sorry Gen," She wrapped her dainty arms around his neck.
"That's okay, sweet girl. I missed you."
"I missed you too," She whispered before letting out a longwinded 'ew', "You stinky, Gen."
The man smelt his shirt and nodded as the potent smell of walkers reached his nose. "I know yucky right?"
"Yucky!" Y/n buried her face in Glenn's shirt ignoring the stench and just enjoying his company. She always became clingy like this after coming home from a run. He loved it. On runs, if he ever encountered a life-threatening situation - like the one today - he always finds himself realising how much she means to him. Glenn saw her as a little sister - one almost replacing the ones that were cruely ripped from him when this began.
"How was it?" She inquired.
"Not fun, sweet girl. But I got your sweeties and a nice man helped us out. Saved us," She beamed.
"I like the good man. I'll give him two kisses when I see him. Maybe even one of my sweeties," Glenn chuckled.
"Why two kisses, y/n?"
"One for saving you. Two for bringing you hom," Glenn grinned contently and kissed her forehead.
"Its home bubs with an e on the end."
"Oh," She mumbled burying herself again.
"Oh my God," Someone muttered as they exited the van.
"Dad! Dad!" Carl screamed causing Glenn to snap his head in their direction. Carl came running towards the man, Rick, who had saved them in Atlanta. Y/n hadn't moved yet as she feared it was only a dream. That her dada wasn't really here.
"Sweet girl," He pulled her out of his neck, "Look it's your dad." The child gazed over to where her brother had run to. Sure enough, it was her dad. He held Carl as he cried, looking to Y/n wanting to hold her too.
"Dada!" She screamed jumping out of Glenn's arms dangerously. The girl scraped her knee on the way down but continued throwing herself into the hug.
"Oh, Carl! Y/n!" She kissed all over his face childishly, "I luv you, dada."
"I love you too, baby girl."
~
The years hadn't been kind to Y/n. She lost so much. Too much in fact that it had driven her to the depts of insanity and made her do things to herself, to others that she more than resented. The first loss was her mothers. She wasn't there like Carl was but the grief burned through her still. Y/n was too young to understand it really. Just how she was when Rick supposedly died. Y/n couldn't understand where her mom had gone she just knew she had a little sister now. One she swore to protect.
She thought she had failed that when the prison fell. The young child was on her own. Injured and lost. She wandered through the woods for days until she stumbled across a group. The group were mean and despite her resistance wouldn't let her go. They hurt her in ways she didn't and wouldn't speak of it even now. But that all changed when Daryl showed up. He protected her - stopped them from hurting her. And eventually led her back to her family. Where for the first time she began to fear her father.
Terminus was next. The people there snatched her from her family. She was forced to watch from afar as they were guided into the crate. Rick fought against them, Carl too but it was to no use. They had sectioned her off in a playroom. Every once in a while an older woman came in to fed and played with her. She hated it. Being in this world for more than a year now she knew that people like them didn't just want to play even if she did. She learnt that from the Claimers.
Carol found her. Although having never have been all that close to the older woman - the only relation being the closeness between y/n and Sophia - seeing her after so long made her cry out of joy. Carol was happy too as she rushed out of that place to take her to safety. The pair ended up in the woods. Carol had stopped a moment ago to clean the dirt from her face, "lemme help."
The girl sat up from where she was put down and cupped some water splashing it on Carol's face. Carol flinched as the water hit her, "Uh thank you."
"Welcome," She looked away getting distracted by the nearing sound of footsteps.
"Get behind me, y/n," Carol ordered to which she shook her head.
"No it dada," She ran away from the woman and towards the group.
"Y/n come back here!" Y/n continued ignoring Carols pleas and crashed herself into the back of Rick's legs.
The father shot around and began to cry as he saw the child he thought he lost at his feet. "Oh, baby!" He collected the girl in his arms. Carl rushed to them too happy to see her alive after Gareth claimed he killed her. "Oh y/n, never leave me again, okay?" He looked directly into her matching blue eyes, "Promise me."
"I promise, dada."
Later Carol led them to Judith. Y/n was over the moon and refused to let her out of her sight, which was exactly what Rick was doing too. They found the church a while after. There they had some semblance of peace. She was glad to have Glenn back - Maggie too. Along with the new people although Eugene was a bit weird.
At the church was also when the questions started. Daryl had told Rick about the group they were with and regretfully had to inform the father how she was there before him. Rick asked y/n - begged her - to tell her what happened. But she refused. She couldn't say what happened. What they did, which just made Rick fear more. Eventually, she spoke a little about it. She was vague and could barely string two words together without crying. He hated it. He hated how this was a reality for his daughter. He saw the bruises they left. And he couldn't understand how someone could touch his child. Or how he could be so powerless to stop it.
Bob died. She didn't really know the man but it still upset her. Beth too. Although she was a lot closer to her. Beth was one of her only friends and was someone who would look after her when her father couldn't. They bonded and now she was gone.
After Beth's demise, they spent lots of time on the road. They suffered, almost died countless times but they prevailed. They got stronger - she got stronger. And they eventually found Alexandria. There everything was good again like how it was at the prison or even before this hell. She liked it there and didn't understand why the others were so sceptical.
Though that didn't last for long. Y/n began to hate the place when Carl got shot. Alexandria almost stole her brother from her. So she despised it. She refused to leave her brother's side as he adjusted to his injury. Yes, he found it annoying how she wouldn't leave him be and he often snapped at her. But she was there when he needed her. Despite the age difference and the many years of memories they had lost to this fight, she understood his pain. When he saw himself as ugly, a monster even, she made him think otherwise. She kept him afloat, which he was eternally thankful for.
Glenn was next.
She didn't believe it even after she was forced to see it with her own two eyes. She was next to Glenn in the lineup. She had to watch up close. Y/n had to be mocked by that man. She had to stay the whole night with her best friends brains on her face. After that night she blamed herself. She told herself that if Negan was just one person off she would be dead and he would live. He would get to see his child born and grow old with Maggie like they had spoken about. She wholeheartedly believed he deserved to live over her.
The war with Negan shook her to the core. At the time his face filled her nightmares. He just looked so normal. He looked nice even. Yet he hurt and he hurt and he hurt.
He killed her Glenn. And then Carl. It wasn't Negans fault although she did blame him. Carl had gotten bit. Y/n held his hand as he died in that tunnel as the home they had built above them fell. She got a letter too - even though she would rather have preferred to have her brother back. In the letter, Carl told her how proud he was of her - how thankful he was to have her as a sister. He told her to protect Judith, their dad and Michonne, who she had recently begun to call momma.
After Carl's death, y/n shut herself from the world well everyone except her father. For days she would cry until she couldn't anymore. She would scream and scream until her voice was gone. She just didn't understand why it had to be Carl? Why mom? Why Glenn? Why Beth? Why was it never her? The following weeks she found herself wishing it would be her next. She could never bring herself to say it out loud but with any battle, any fight, anything, she wished it would be her.
So when she lost her father her whole world fell apart. He was her consistent so why did he leave her? She was at the bridge that day. Daryl held her crying frame as Rick set off that final shot blowing him and the walkers off the bridge. Y/n Grimes' father was dead.
She stayed in Alexandria for a while afterwards. For the sole reason to protect her siblings. Yes, siblings - plural. Somehow through all the bad some good came from it. She just wished her father and Carl could've seen it. RJ Grimes came into this world 9 months later. And he was perfect. For months she would assist in taking care of him as Michonne wasn't doing the greatest without the love of her life. Truth be told neither was y/n she was just better at hiding it.
Until one night it all became too much. Y/n didn't know how it happened but she found herself balancing on the edge of her window. She wanted to jump - to end it. But she just couldn't will herself to do it. And when Daryl showed up she knew she couldn't. "Hey step away from ta window, alrigh'," The man ordered as he saw her shaking frame rocking back and forth.
"I-i can't," She sobbed.
"Ye' ya can. Jus' step back I'll catch ya," Daryl moved closer but paused when she shouted to stop.
"I can't, Daryl. They're all gone. They're all dead," The tears clouded her eyes. She shut them tightly picturing her families faces wanting so badly to join them.
"Please jus' step back, y/n. Yer' not alone. I'm here," He croaked the tears floating down his cheeks, "Don't jump."
"I love you, Daryl."
"I love ya too, okay? So step away from the window," He watched as she turned her head slightly catching his eyes.
"I love you but I can't. Tell mom, RJ and Judy I love them as well."
Suddenly she went to fall forward but Daryl reacted quicker. He gripped her waist pulling her into the room unwilling to release his grasp. "Yer' not leaving me," He told her as she cried into his shoulder, "Yer' cant leave me." Overhearing the chaos, Michonne entered her daughter's room to see the window wide open and the two of them crying. Daryl looked at her. The look telling her all she needed to know. Michonne began to cry herself and joined them on the ground.
"Y/n?" A small voice called from the door frame.
"Judith go back to bed, okay?" Michonne told her but Judith continued towards her sister. The girl said nothing as she wiped her sister's tears and held her hand.
It was 5 years later now. After her attempt, she left Alexandria with Daryl in search of her father. She didn't believe he was alive despite everything inside her wanting to. But Daryl did and after what happened they became a lot closer. He was happy she joined him. Even though the act of being out there was gruelling at times he was glad he could look after her. And if something would've happened to her while he was gone he could never have forgiven himself. Understandably Michonne was angry that y/n decided to leave. Y/n was her daughter and Michone her mother. They needed each other but she was willing to let Y/n leave to figure that out. It brought her peace looking for her father.
The silence was her favourite and as Daryl wasn't much of a talker she got lots of it. They got a dog too, which Daryl cleverly named Dog. Everything was a messed up version of okay but it was still good. Being out there made her find her purpose. She went home a lot more than Daryl did, which pleased her siblings and mother. It was always for a few days never longer as she feared she'd stay forever and she couldn't. As much as Alexandria is good it also drives y/n to a dark place. One she was in that night. She lost so much there. And staring at those four walls drove her insane. It didn't help how Negan was imprisoned there. Just thinking how close he was made her skin crawl. She knew how Rick visited him when he was alive that he believed Carl was right about the killing. That it had to stop. Y/n knew he was right too but she could never bring herself to one admit or two face Negan.
It felt like a story she read as a child when the Whisperers showed up. Like Negan, they scared her. So when she was told about his escape she only assumed the worst. The Whisperers took so many from them. Like Enid for example. Her story was cut short because of them. The two never really spoke but she understood how she and Carl felt for each other at a time. So ultimately it felt like she lost her final piece of Carl when she died. Y/n wished she had spoken to her when she could've. She wished she could've heard the untold stories they shared. She needed to know about Carl's final years with her. But now she's gone too along with those memories.
The war with the Whisperers took everything from them. The Kingdom. Hilltop. Alexandria. Along with the lives they lost in the process. With the group separated she found herself protecting Judy and RJ. Michonne had gone. Where she had gone to, y/n had no idea. For a messed up reason, she began to prepare herself for her mother's death before it was even announced. That was until she got the call. She was okay and... apparently so was Rick.
Disbelief was what hit her first. She couldn't hear his voice nor see his face so how could she know it was true. Michonne didn't know either she couldn't if he was really there, still alive. That night of the call she left. Without hesitation, she kissed RJ and Judith's heads, told them she loved them and told them to tell everyone else that and left. She left in the direction Michonne had told her.
She left to find her father. And she knew she wouldn't return until she did. "I'm coming, dad."

“Damn it, Sandy, can’t you handle that?” Carl yells from his dark room as the baby starts crying again.
“Fuck you, Carl,” Sandy shouts back, hurrying to put out her cigarette before heading to the nursery.
Their little girl was just about a year old, and neither one of them knew what they were doing. Carl was incredibly indifferent and despite her honest attempts at motherhood, Sandy’s maternal instincts never kicked in like she thought it would happen. Carl was annoyed that it cut into their time they would be on trips. They weren’t able to photograph models with the baby on the road, so he’d been itching to get back on the road.
“Is she hungry?” he shouts back, not even bothering to take his eyes off of the most recent photographs he had been developing.
“I just fed her!”
“Then why is she crying?”
“Fuck if I know,” Sandy shouts back exasperated. She scooped up the baby from her crib and started to rock her back and forth in her arms. Sandy also tried burping her, humming a little lullaby she made up on the fly… no luck. She walks around the house with the baby on her hip, trying to rock her back to sleep.
“We haven’t able to get back on the road in a year,” Carl says, clearly frustrated.
“That ain’t purely my fault,” she spits back, “Takes two to make a baby, Carl.”
“Fuck I know,” he groans, “But I need new inspiration. If I take one more picture of nature…”
“If she’s such a hindrance, pay for a damn sitter like I suggested months ago,” she counters.
“We can’t have no stranger walking around the house Sandy,” he points out.
“Just keep your damn room locked, it’s not a huge deal,” Sandy sighs. “Besides, no one is gonna snoop around if you pay ‘em enough. You damn well produce your own incriminating evidence; you should always have that room locked anyways.”
“We only have to worry about your damn brother,” Carl points out, “We hire a fucking sitter that’s two people we need to worry about.”
“You’re just to goddamn cheap to hire somebody,” Sandy states, moving back towards the nursery, the baby now snoring softly.
“You know what? Fine,” Carl says defeated. “But you’re in charge of putting the ad out and hiring somebody.”
“Thank you,” she says in a sing song tone, happy she got her way. But the moment of quiet that follows is short lived as they baby starts crying again.
“Please for the love of God can you just take care of that?” Carl yells, and the argument circles back to the beginning.
You had sat in the small dinner in the corner booth hunched over the newspaper and nursing your now cold cup of coffee. You had just arrived in Knockemstiff and were looking for work. “Any leads?” Julie asked as she topped off your coffee. Julie was your roommate. You had found her the same way you were currently looking for a job. You must have answered at least ten terrible Roommate Wanted ads until you had found Julie. The two of you now share an apartment- the top floor of a three-family owned by a sweet older couple.
“Thank you,” you say without looking up from scanning the ads. “Maybe this one?” You say pointing to one of the ads. She looks to see her manager stepped out for his smoke break before sliding in the booth across from you. You slide the paper over to her and she reads the ad out loud.
NANNY NEEDED Knockemstiff, Ohio
Couple that travels for work in need of a nanny for one-year-old daughter.
Temporary live-in position for several weeks at a time. Pay negotiable.
Call Sandy Henderson at the below number.
“I can sublet the room temporarily while you stay there,” Julie offers. “It’s a pretty vague offer,” she continues. “I wouldn’t commit until you call and speak to that Sandy woman.”
“Oh, I’m sure I’ll need to be interviewed,” you agree. “What kind of people are comfortable just leaving their baby for weeks at a time with a perfect stranger?”
“Paul is still out back I think,” she chuckles, “I’ll let you use the wall phone.”
You take a seat at one of the stools at the counter, and she dials the number for you and then passes you the receiver. You mouth a thank you and she waves her hand in dismissal as she heads over to take someone’s order.
“Whaddya want?” the woman on the other end answers abruptly.
“Oh, I’m calling about the ad in the paper regarding the nanny position. Is it still available?”
“Oh, shit. I’m so sorry, hun,” the woman says, now in a much nicer tone. “Thought it was my brother calling. Yes, it is, and we need it filled as soon as possible. When are you available?”
“For an interview?” You ask.
“Yeah,” she says mumbled, like she is dangling a cigarette from her mouth. “Can you come today?”
“Oh, wow. Yes, I can,” you reply.
“Great, um, you got a pen? Take down this address.”
About two hours, a change of clothes and a cab ride later, you were standing outside a house towards the end of town. It was a little run down, but what building in this town wasn’t? You were a little nervous of course, but it was also the most unconventional way you have gotten an interview. Part of you was relieved, because the woman on the phone sounded real, not phony, but the circumstances still made you uneasy. Julie had the address and said you’d call when you got back to the taxi dispatch.
“Welcome, welcome,” Sandy smiled, opening up the door for you. She had one hand on the doorknob and one of the cutest babies you’d ever seen in the other. “Come on in, make yourself comfortable.”
“Who is this?” you coo, leaning down to the baby’s eye level. “She’s darling.”
“This little sweetheart is Valerie,” Sandy smiles, passing the baby to you. “She’s so well-behaved. Hardly ever cries.”
“She’s adorable,” you smile, as the baby cuddles up close, resting her head on your shoulder. “I didn’t properly introduce myself on the phone. (Y/N) (Y/L/N).”
“I’m Sandy,” she introduces herself. “Please take a seat on the couch, get comfortable. I hate things that are so formal. Bleh.”
You take a seat on the couch, and readjust the little girl in your arms so she’s sitting on your lap and her back is resting against you so she is supported.
“So, my husband and I are on the road a lot, usually,” she begins, “We took some time off when we had Valerie, but we really need to start working again, you understand.”
“Of course, what do you both do?” you ask politely.
“We’re photographers,” she beams, “Mostly nature and landmarks- which reminds me! We have a darkroom in the house, but that door will be locked when you’re staying here. We don’t want any damage to any of the negatives we have stored in there you understand. Everywhere else in the house is yours to explore! And of course we gotta spare bedroom you can call your own.”
“Fair enough,” you joke.
“So, tell me about yourself, honey,” she smiles, crossing her legs in the armchair where she sat.
“Well, I just moved here a few weeks ago actually,” you begin, “I just recently finished school, and now I’m looking for work. I just got my degree in early childcare from the state college.”
“Oh, that’s wonderful,” she says with a clap of her hands. “So, you’re local?”
“Yes, I live in town.”
“Excellent! We’d also love for this to be like an on-call thing as well, you know for date nights and things like that for times when we’re home. Like for a few hours here and there. And of course, we’ll always live money for groceries or whatever you need on top of your pay for emergencies incase Valerie needs formula or diapers or anything.”
“Perfect,” you smile, surprised how well the conversation was going. Sandy was easy-going and nice to talk to. The two of you sat and talked for a little under an hour, her asking all the standard questions you anticipated. You also were able to ask her some more of your own questions as well. It was the most effortless interview you had been on easily.
“I’m sorry you weren’t able to meet Carl today,” she says when she is showing you out. “But hun, I feel confident to offer you the job. We haven’t had many applicants and you’re the most qualified one I’ve spoken to. The job is yours if you want it?”
“When can I start?” you smile, making her laugh.
“Your number is on the resume, right?” she says, scooping up the baby. You nod, waving goodbye to the baby and then saying goodbye to Sandy.
“I’ll call you when I speak to Carl, but I think once he knows he’ll want to head out as soon as we can. Plan for Sunday,” she says as you get into the cab.
Just like she had promised, you get a call from Sandy on Saturday afternoon asking you to show up the next morning at 9. You spend the day packing up your clothes and anything else you’d need for a few weeks. Sandy said they’d be back in two weeks but you pack for three just in case. Julie was also nice enough to help you. You didn’t need to do much. Ever since you had settled in Knockemstiff, you had been pretty lazy with unpacking and for once procrastination played out in your favor.
Julie insisted on taking you out to celebrate that night before starting your job tomorrow. There was a small little bar, a little shack of a place just on the outside of town you went to. Julie had a car and you drove, anticipating she’d have a lot more to drink than you. It was a hotter summer night, so you drove with the windows down and the radio playing a little louder than you normally would.
The outside was decorated with string lights of primary colors and the wooden awning looked like it was one more storm away from collapsing. But the atmosphere inside was to die for. The jukebox was playing loud dance music, and the place was crowded. Empty recycled glasses lined the walls on a high shelf as decoration along with weathered posters of anything Americana. A row of motorcycles and trucks were parked outside the little place and it looked like a pileup from how crowded the lot was. People lingered outside as well, and you both hoped you’d find seats inside.
The two of you found a high-top table and Julie made her way up to the bar, skillfully maneuvering through the crowd to grab you both some drinks. You let your eyes wandering, surveying the room and just people watching. Couples were dancing closely to the music that was rattling the jukebox, and a group of people were sitting at the bar huddles in to watch the little black and white portable television. You also noticed a group of men in uniform several tables down, local police. They weren’t paying any attention to anyone but their own conversation, except one.
He just so happened to have looked up just as your eyes landed on their table. Steel blue eyes cutting across everything and just staring right back into yours. It was a fraction of a second and his gaze was broken by Julie taking her seat across from you. You cleared your throat, and finally allowed yourself to exhale. You felt her raise an eyebrow at you but she didn’t press, just gave you a knowing smirk you brushed off. You still felt his gaze on you even if your view was now obstructed.
Sandy and Carl were in a rush when you arrived in the morning. Sandy ran you through the details of where everything was kept and told you that she would call to check in when she could when they made stopped. She helped you carry your bags in from the trunk of the taxi while Carl packed their bags in their car. He was polite enough, but you felt in your gut to just keep your distance. Sandy led you upstairs to the guest room she told you she worked to clean out for you. It was simple, a bed and a dresser with a small closet. She said it mostly had been storage and her weekend project had been clearing it out for you. It was simple, but good enough for you for sure. You thanked her and she dismissed it saying you were the one doing her a favor, making you laugh.
The whole ordeal was very hurried. Carl was rushing to get on the road as soon as possible and you could tell he was clearly irritated at how long Sandy was taking showing you around and explaining things about Valerie. Carrying the baby in your arms, you finally were settled in to your new role and Sandy gave one more big hug and a kiss on Valerie’s head before rushing down to the car. You waved to the pair of them from the small front porch, Sandy looking back and waving to the baby from the passenger seat until they were out of your line of vision.
The first day was a little daunting. New space, living in a house that isn’t yours and a baby babbling in your arms. She was a sweet thing, and she already had taken a liking to you. Heading over to her nursery, you saw that she had a little play pen folded up in the corner of the nursery and you quickly set it up in your room so you could unpack while keeping an eye on her. She babbled just happy utter nonsense to you while you navigated around the space and her big eyes just followed you, just watching you was entertaining for her for now. You were a new face and she was entertained just by that for now.
A few hours later, Valerie had settled down for a nap in the early afternoon. She was sleeping soundly in her crib and you were getting formula ready for when she woke up. It was quiet, the only noise in the house was the small sounds of your own rustling in the kitchen. You wondered when you would hear from Sandy, if it would be later tonight or in a couple of days. You just were lost in your own thoughts when you were startled by a loud knocking on the door. Instantly, Valerie began to cry. You wiped your hands quickly on the skirt of your dress before grabbing her. You rested her on your hip and rocked her gently, shushing her to calm down while you went to grab the door.
The first thing your eyes saw were the same blue eyes who was looking at you at the bar last night. The man’s eyebrows furrowed and he looked really confused. He had one hand rested on his hip and the other against the doorframe, but he stood up straight when he saw it wasn’t who he expected. Your eyes then went down to the shiny Sheriff’s Badge fixed in place on his uniform.
“Who are you?” he asks abruptly. “Where’s Sandy?”
“Sandy and Carl left this morning,” you explain, not sure if he recognizes you. “I’m their nanny.”
He laughs and shakes his head as he looks down, almost like he doesn’t believe you, or he just doesn’t believe the situation. “Carl? Carl Henderson hired a nanny?” he scoffs and you nod, holding Valerie a little closer. The little girl rubs her eyes and yawns, when her eyes flutter open, she looks at the stranger in the doorway and immediately reaches out to signal she wants to be held by him. You ignore her resistance to wanting to be in your arms until you get more information about why the Sheriff is at their doorstep, though she obviously knows him.
“I’m Sandy’s brother,” he explains, “Did she say when they were coming back?” He doesn’t try to hold the baby yet, just holds out one of his fingers and her little hand holds onto it tightly.
“Two weeks.”
“They hire a complete stranger to watch my niece and live in their house unsupervised while they drive around?” he scoffs, shaking his head again in disbelief.
“I’m more than qualified…”
“It’s not a jab at you, sweetheart,” the man tries to explain, “More so a reflection on my sister and her husband is all. They are… fairly selfish people and I wished this situation surprises me more than it does.”
“Should I tell her you came by when she calls?” you ask.
“If she calls,” the man chuckles, “Sure, let her know Lee stopped by to visit.”
“You don’t think she will?” you ask, tilting your head.
“We’ll see,” Lee shrugs, “Do I know you from somewhere?” He rests his arm back up on the doorframe and looks down to the baby again, extending out his free hand to her again and scrunching her cheeks.
“I don’t know,” you shrug, not wanting to admit you remembered seeing him last night. He purses his lips together and nods, not pressing further. He pushes off from the doorframe and puts his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket.
“Must’ve been in a dream then,” he smirks, and you feel your cheeks flush. He walks down the steps and back towards his cop car. “What did you say your name was?” he asks, turning back around.
“I didn’t,” you chuckle.
“Hmm,” he nods, and raises his eyebrows, waiting for you to fill in the blank. You tell him your name and he repeats it back to you like he’s thinking about it, trying it out to see how it sounds.
“Well,” he says, standing behind the open driver’s door, “Good luck, and I hope Sandy proves me wrong. Let me know if she calls.”

Thank you for the request friend! I’m so sorry that it took so long to complete, but I hope you enjoy.
Bring Him Home-Brother!Tommyinnit
As soon as you were able to, you moved out of the DreamSMP. Don’t get me wrong, you loved your family and wanted to be around them, but you just couldn’t handle the drama. You’d known Dream for a while and you knew that with him slowly gaining control of the SMP that things were definitely going to take a turn for the worst sooner or later. And as you predicted, it had.
You kept up with everything that your brothers had done throughout the years, supporting them from the comfort of your home, thousands of blocks away from the action. You received letters from all four of the men in your family, but none more frequently than your younger brother Tommy.
Tommy told you everything, kept you updated. The two of you had always been rather close, bonding over feeling slightly abandoned by your father. You became a source of confidence for the young blonde, someone he could tell anything and everything to. Someone he could joke with but also be vulnerable with. He didn’t visit you often, but when he did the two of you made the absolute most of it.
This is why when you received the distress letter, you dropped everything to make your way to him.
Tommy’s weekly letter came and you eager opened it and let your eyes scan the words as fast as you could, eager to know what he and Tubbo had gotten up to with the new responsibility of the country on their shoulders. But as you read, your eyebrows furrowed. The sloppily written words seemed rushed as Tommy explained to you the result of what he thought would be a practical joke. He tried to assure you not to worry though, Ghostbur had come with him and Dream visited everyday.
You carefully set the letter down on the countertop and stare off into the distance as you begin to ponder your next move. You ignore Tommy’s “assurance” and allow the worry to fill your veins. Ghostbur wasn’t the same as Wilbur, he wouldn’t be good at taking care of your brother. And Dream wouldn’t be much better, he was the one that put him there for goodness sakes.
The coordinates that Tommy had included in his letter tempted you as your eyes scanned over them…. That’s not too far from where you were. Maybe half a day's trip… You could go visit him. And technically, he never states that he has to stay in that particular location for his exile. If he wanted to, he could come home with you.
With that thought, you’ve made up your mind. You quickly pack up some materials, food, water, building blocks, your weapons and armor, before picking the letter up and exiting your home. Your eyes scan the cords again before turning and beginning your trip to Tommy.
Like I said, it’s only about half a day’s trip and so you get there when the sun is still high in the sky. You sigh in relief as a pitiful pitched tent greets you, at least Tommy wrote the cords correctly. You pick up your pace slightly, eager to see your brother. Your pace turns into a sprint when his loud shouts fill the air, followed by an even louder boom.
You draw closer to his camp and you find Tommy standing across from Dream, the two are staring into a hole, Tommy on the verge of tears and Dream holding a flint and steel. “Why would you do that?” Tommy cries out, “I worked so hard to gather all that stuff! Why do you keep coming back and blowing it up?”
“I’m sorry, he does what?” you growl out before you can stop yourself. Both of their heads snap to you and Tommy gasps in excitement at the sight of me. He shouts your name and rushes toward you, wrapping his arms around you in a tight hug, burying his face in your neck. You wrap your arms around him too, hugging him just as tightly in return.
“I missed you so much Y/N,” Tommy mumbles against your skin, and you can tell he’s trying not to cry. It really had been a long time since the two of you had seen each other.
“I missed you too Tommy… Missed you so much,” you coo in response, placing a comforting hand on the top of his head, pushing him closer to you, subsciously wanting to hide him from Dream’s stare.
“Y/N… this is a surprise,” Dream states sheepishly, pocketing the flint and steel before rubbing the back of his head and looking at the ground to avoid your glare.
“Oh I’m sure it is. You don’t expect anyone to come and stop your plans anymore, do you Dream? You take what you want without even considering what other people might do. Well guess what Dream? I’m not scared of you. I’m really not. You may have everyone else wrapped around your little finger, but I’m not buying it. Now, I’m going to need you to leave me and my brother alone now, and not come back.”
Dream looked like he was about to protest and tell you off, but a harsh glare from you makes him shut his mouth, gulp, and nod. “I’ll see you later, Tommy,” he mumbles, turning on his heel and stalking away from the two of us. I watched him and held Tommy to me until he was out of sight, and then even a few moments after that.
You let out a sigh and released your tight grip on your brother and let him pull himself away from your chest. “Thank you for that… What are you doing here?”
“What? I have to have a reason to visit my baby brother?”
Tommy simply raises an eyebrow at you and crosses his arm across his chest which makes you sigh. “Okay, well maybe I’m here for a reason… I wanted to see if maybe… maybe you wanted to come live with me?”
Tommy’s face immediately lightens and his arms uncross at your offer. “I mean you don’t have to if you don’t want to. I just know that the two you mentioned in your letter wouldn’t be that good at looking out for you, and I meant what I said, I missed you and so I thought that maybe if you needed a place to stay while your in exile, you could stay at mine… but like I said you really don’t have to if you don’t--”
You ramble is cut off by Tommy throwing himself back into your arms, making you wrap your arms around him in return. You two hug for a few moments before you hear Tommy mumble. “You mean it? You really want me to live with you?”
Your heart breaks at the fact that Tommy needs confirmation that you want him in your home. “Yes Tommy. I mean it. I want you to come live with me. I wouldn’t have come or offered if I didn’t want you.”
Your answer seems to satisfy the boy because he asks you no more questions. You press a small kiss to the top of your brother’s head before letting him go from the hug. “Now, go get packed up, I’d like to get home before sundown and that will only happen if we leave within the next half hour.” Tommy pulls himself away from you and give you a small smile and quick nod before he shoots away from your side and begins to shove the things that Dream hadn’t blown up back into his inventory.
You wait patiently as he gathers his belongings around the camp. Once he’s all packed up, he moves to stand by your side and gives you a nod, “Okay! I’m ready.” You return the nod and wrap your arm around him. The two of you begin the journey back to your house. As you two walk, Tommy begins tot tell you everything that he wasn’t able to it in his letters, all of the small details and the funny stories that had happened in between each major event. You let him. You let him ramble about anything that pops into his head and you listen. You had missed your brother so much. And now you were able to bring him home. Who knows, maybe he’ll like living with you so much, he won’t leave… that wouldn’t be too bad.
Welcome home Tommy. Welcome home.

Born To Be Yours | Part Xl
Sansa Stark x Fem! Baratheon! Reader (Daenerys Targaryen x Fem! Baratheon! Reader eventually)
Season 1-8
Word Count: 1,375
Note: Hey guys!! It’s been a year since I started this series and I was really excited to continue, I really was. But months flew by and my life began to take a different course, now, I can’t make promises that I’ll be uploading soon again, though I will try if I have time to spare and my imagination cooperates :) Hope you enjoy this chapter! And thank you all for your patience, it’ll be rewarded!
Pt.1 Pt.2 Pt.3 Pt.4 Pt.5 Pt.6 Pt.7 Pt.8 Pt.9 Pt.10
Tumblr media
Months have flew by way too fast. And now you were feeling more confident around the northern lady and your family. You’d keep her from any harm they would try to inflict on her no matter the consequences, yet you were cautions cause Joffrey was still so damn annoying. Though since Margaery arrived to the capital she has been keeping him rather distracted.
“Because the truth is always either terrible or boring.”
“Am I boring?” You approached Sansa from behind, daintily kissing her cheek.
“Not at all.” She answered with a broad simper.
“You shouldn’t be too obvious in plain sight.” Shae subtly advised.
“You are right. We should be more careful.” You peered up to see if the guards were staring your way, when you confirmed they were not you stole a kiss on her silky lips. She giggled.
“Have a lovely day. I’ll meet you later. My grandfather requested my presence.” It was true... Tywin wanted to speak privately with you, and you sort of imagined why.
“I’ll be waiting for you.”
“My ladies.” You winked playfully at Sansa before walking away.
“You really like her, don’t you?” Shae asked Sansa well knowing the answer to her own question.
“She is perfect.” She let out a love sigh.
“You trust her?”
“The princess has always treated me with respect. I always dreamed with a handsome knight or a sweet prince, then I met her and she is far more better than any of that.” Sansa confessed.
“She seems to be a good girl.” Lord Baelish approached the two women.
“Lovely day for it. May I speak with lady Sansa alone for a moment?” Shae stood up and walked back to Ros.
“I saw your mother not long ago. She’s very eager to see you. And your sister.” He commented.
“Arya’s alive?”
“Oh yes. Indeed she is. But... I’ve noticed you’ve grown quite attached to princess Y/N.” He chose carefully his words.
“I have. She is and extraordinary friend.” Sansa added. “I’m very lucky to be her friend.”
“You are. I’m waiting for word on an assignment that will take me far away from the capital. When I set sail, I might be able to bring you with me. But you’d need to be ready to leave on a moment’s notice.” Sansa widen her eyes. She didn’t really want to leave now... did she? After all she knew she’ll never be truly free here.
“I... I’m not sure if that’s a wise idea, Lord Baelish.” She conflicted admitted.
“And why’s that? Other than the risks it involves of course.”
“Well, as I said before, King’s Landing is my home now. It has good things despite the corruption.” Only Y/N, she thought.
“All right then. The offer stands, my lady. Keep it in mind.” He turned around to leave Sansa wondering if she’d abandon you to return home or staying here by your side.
“You are glowing, granddaughter of mine.”
Tywin was jotting down something with a quill. “Is there a boy already?” It sounded more like a statement rather than a question. You tried not blush as Sansa’s picture coming to your mind.
“Mmm... no. There is not a... boy.” You concluded kinda nervous.
“If there is not then you should be looking for a suitable swain. I reckon you have many admirers waiting to receive your attention.” He said with a serious tone. Does he really mind? Of course he does. He wants to get a hold of another loyalty for House Lannister. “Many lords would give their whole lands to marry you. And we might need that.”
“But that’s not what I need.” You responded nonchalantly. It was true. All you truly needed and longed for was the love of someone who valued you. And you already found that in a northern lass. You knew he disapprove entirely your “reckless” choices, same as your mother. You’d fight back and won’t allow them to throw you into some random man’s arms.
You stepped inside Joffrey’s dining table. You always enjoyed to hang with the Tyrell siblings, but now that she’s engaged to your brother... you wonder how she’s been managing to handle him. After all, she’s one of the cleverest persons you know.
“Margaery does a great deal of work with the poor back in Hightgarden. I’ve heard Y/N do charity for the poor here as well.” Loras commented. You nodded. The soon to be queen smiled softly your way.
“The lowest among us are no different from the highest if you give them a chance and approach them with an open heart.” You mirrored her act.
“An open heart is what you’ll get in Flee Bottom if you’re not careful, my dear. Not long ago, we were attached by a mob there. We had a full complement of guards that didn’t stop them. The king barely escaped his life.” You hid your smirk.
“My mother’s always had a penchant for drama. Facts become less and less important to her as she grows older. Our lives were never truly in danger.” You rolled your eyes at his lies.
“Oh but they were. You didn’t even care about sending the guards to get lady Sansa back to the Keep. A king is supposed to ensure the safety of all the ones that are in need. You seem to keep failing on that, big brother.” You sensed his furious glare upon you.
“Who cares about her anyway.” You clenched your jaw tightly. Loras and Margaery keep their eyes on their dinner.
There was an awkward pause as the main course was brought to the table. The rest of the evening was all about the same. Joffrey flaunting about his “bravery” and Cersei flattering him all along. Margaery showing off a wide smile at his non sense.
~~~~~~
You strolled to your room exhausted after training with the bow and horse-riding with little Tommen. Before that you decided to pay a visit to Sansa’s chambers. You knocked the door twice and she beamed with delight.
“I hope it isn’t too late to stop by.”
“No, I was about to get under the sheets. Perhaps you can join me?” She suggested with a gaily grin. You chuckled. Seeing Sansa being so... awfully bold was so nice and pure. Being around you made her forget about the fact she’s a prisoner. It didn’t matter as much when you were together.
“I’d love that.” You entered the room, holding her by the waist and leading both of you to the bed.
“How was your day then?” You smoothly asked. She tossed to be face to face with you.
“Actually, it was wonderful! Ser Loras escorted me to the gardens with Lady Margaery and Lady Olenna. They were very kind to me. We had lunch together and chatted for a while.”
“That sounds lovely, my lady. I’ve always consider Lady Olenna as the grandmother I never had. She knows me since I was a baby. Now that they are here I’ve been reminiscing about the good old days when we wouldn’t stop joshing Loras about me beating him on a single duel. We were so young back then... I’ll always hold dear those moments. He may be moody and brash at times, still, he is complete gentleman. Water’s sometimes thicker than blood. That’s for sure.” The Tyrells were your second family, they welcomed you with open arms and never once judge you. Unlike your own blood, with exceptions of course.
“Back in Winterfell I was so focused on learning how to properly be a lady and all that, that I missed many things... I should’ve been closer to Robb, Arya, even Jon. I was mean.” Sansa’s voice cracked.
“Don’t lose faith, Sansa. I know it’s too much to ask for but life takes unexpected turns.” You brushed one of her ginger locks with your right hand.
“I found a new home.” She whispered lightly. “Not Kings Landing. Not this castle. You.” She unhurriedly closed her crystal eyes. Your heart was at her mercy, that was a fact. You caressed gently her cheek and sealed the night with the most tender kiss anyone could dream of.
“You are my home too, my love.” You breathed against her lips.
Tumblr media
I was walking to my brother Tim’s house as the sun was settling down. He was throwing a barbeque for his best friend’s return, Captain Daniel – Dan – Syverson, or just Sy, as we usually called him. I smiled as I thought of him. I had known him for so long. He and my brother had been friends since I was born. So, I grew up with them, teasing me but when someone bullied me, they were there faster than the blink of an eye, ready to knock the bully down.
They always stood up for me, even though they knew I could take care of it myself. But they insisted. Every time. And that was nice, to know they would. To know I always had someone who would be there for me.
As we got older, our groups of friends intertwined, and we became one larger group of close friends. Me, Tim, Sy, Holly, Shane, Benjamin, and Brianna. We all lived in this town, went to the same high school. Some of us even went to college together. Now we were all working in this town as well, except for the captain. He was away from time to time. And I would never admit it, but I missed him so much while he was gone. My brother’s house came into my sight, and my heart skipped a beat. After all these months, I was finally seeing him again.
When I fell for him? I can’t even remember; it is like I have always been. However, I have always tried to hide it, so he doesn’t know. At least, that’s what I think. If he does, he’s being a good friend and doesn’t treat me any differently.
What our friendship is like? Teasing, and full of sarcastic comments. Unlike everyone else, he calls me Kat instead of Kathy. I’d never want to change that, so I will not ruin that by confessing my feelings. What’s the point? He does not and never will feel the same. Right?
I took a deep breath and opened the door of my brother’s house, hoping Sy would already be there. I walked through the hallway and living room until the garden came into my sight. Sy just disappeared into the shed, so I walked through the doors outside, and said hello to my brother.
“Hey sis,” he welcomed me and gave me a hug. “He’s already here you know. I’m sure he showed up early for you.”
“Oh, shut up! That’s not true, he is just happy to see his best friend again,” I laughed and slapped Tim on his arm.
“You might be able to fool him, but I can see the nerves in your eyes Kathy. Just admit you’re happy he’s back,” Tim teased. I wanted to smack him when we heard noises coming from the shed. Sy walked out carrying two lawn chairs.
Tim released me from his hug. “Go say hi to him,” he whispered. I took a step towards Sy, and felt my heartbeat increasing. He dropped the lawn chairs and proceeded to walk to me. Our steps became faster, and quickly he was close enough to wrap me in his arms. He lifted me up and I wrapped my arms around his neck, letting out a little squeal. He smelled good, manly, but so good. His buzzcut was starting to grow out, and I couldn’t help myself but to stroke his head. He buried his face in my neck, and I giggled. He was home.
“You’re back,” I said softly, the butterflies in my stomach going crazy. Contain yourself, he doesn’t need to know you missed him that much.
“Otherwise I wouldn’t be standing here darlin’,” he answered, and I could see in his eyes that he was happy to be home again.
“Welcome home you big idiot,” I grinned, I loved teasing him.
After squeezing me tight one more time, he’d put me down again. Suddenly I realized the sounds that disappeared when my eyes met his for the first time in so long had come back. The sound of the flock of birds came back, just as the noises Tim was making while meddling with the barbeque.
“Oh, that’s how ya welcome me back home?” Sy said. I laughed and walked past him, while picking up one of the lawn chairs.
When he’d lifted me up, it was just me and him. He always does that when he comes back from a tour. I don’t even know how it started, but it had become a thing. He knows I like that, that I love that. He is the only one I trust enough for that, because I know he will never let me fall. I did fall though, but in a different way.
“I could also have started by saying you should trim your beard. It looks like shit right now,” I mocked, and walked past him. He’d placed his hand on his chest and pretended I had hurt him. His chest though, how on earth did he get even bigger? Quickly, I moved towards the sitting area, and placed the lawn chair down. He followed close behind, and when I looked around, I saw his eyes moving up. Was he looking at my bum? Why? I tried to not look puzzled, but I felt like I was failing hard.
“Ya know, being disrespectful in the army can get you in a lot of trouble,” he said and handed me a beer. His hand touched mine slightly, and I pulled my hand away quickly.
“Really? You’re going to punish me then?” I raised an eyebrow at him. You can punish me in a couple ways captain. No Kathy, he is your friend. He is just your friend.
“Who knows.” He cocked an eyebrow at me and finished his beer. I nearly chocked on mine, and thankfully Shane and Benjamin busted through the door and stepped outside onto the terrace, preventing the continuation of the conversation between me and Sy. They were cheering loudly, screaming Sy’s name, and hugging him. I chuckled and took a few more sips of my beer.
I watched as Shane and Benjamin tried to tackle Sy, they obviously failed. To be fair, Shane and Benjamin weren’t small guys either, but Sy was definitely bigger. I took a sip of my beer and watched as my brother joined them.
While watching the boys I noticed Sy’s physique, he looked even more broad than before. I had no idea that was possible. He currently had Shane in a headlock, flexing his bicep. I wanted to crawl under that arm myself, not in that headlock, but still. He could choke me though.
I was rudely awakened out of my daydreaming when Holly and Brianna suddenly stood next to me. The two girls tried to hug me at the same time, which failed due to their hight difference. Me and Brianna were both quite tall, while Holly was smaller.
“Kathy! Let me guess, the captain has already said hello to you?” Holly said and wiggled her eyebrows. Trying to hide the fact I had a thing for the captain from them was useless, these girls knew me better than I knew myself.
“Did he do that cute hug yet were he lifts you up?” Brianna added while hooking her arm through mine.
“Hello to you too, and yes he said hello to me, and yes he did that hug thing. Don’t make it look like it’s a big deal!” I said and took the last sip of my beer.
“No, did I miss it? That is my favourite part of Sy’s return!” Holly pouted. The brunette took the beer bottle out of my hand and placed it on the table. “Sy! Aren’t you going to say hello to us or what?” she shouted. The boys stopped talking and closed the gap between our groups.
“Hi girls.” Sy opened his arms for Holly and Brianna and gave them both a hug. The chatter immediately started, everyone asking Sy questions about how he was doing, and how happy he was to be back.
“Stop! Everyone, stop talking for a minute!” Brianna shouted. “Since Holly and I were a bit late, we missed the famous welcome back hug between Sy and Kathy.”
“I was there,” Tim laughed. “Maybe you should’ve known they would both be here early.”
“We were planning on being early, but sweet Holly over here was being incredible slow,” Brianna said and gave Holly a death glare which turned into a little smile.
“I think they should do it again,” Holly grinned. Oh no.
“I think they should too, apparently we all, except Tim, missed the highlight of Sy’s return. We should not be robbed of that moment,” Shane agreed, and a playful smile appeared on his face.
“Oh, come on guys!” I said. “The man has just gotten home! Give him a break.” If he lifts me up again, I might faint. This actually made them cheer even louder.
“C’mere darlin’. Let’s give the audience what they want.” He gave his beer to Benjamin and winked at me.
He caged me in his strong arms again, lifting me up, effortlessly. I threw my arms around his neck, and I heard everyone around us cheer. This was my happy place. I don’t know if it is the being lifted part, of just being held by his strong arms.
Far too soon for my liking, he had put me down on my feet again. His eyes locked with mine, and I nearly drowned. The blue in his eyes looked even brighter than ever before.
I was rudely pulled away by Shane, who cheered loudly while putting his arm around my shoulder. Everyone was laughing and cheering. Benjamin walked inside to grab the speaker, and a few seconds later music mixed with our noises in the garden.
“Hey guys, who wants to eat?” Tim shouted.
“Better give me a sausage, I’m in the mood for some meat,” Holly answered with a mischievous grin. I laughed at her; she was never afraid to speak her mind.
After we had finished eating, we all sat around the firepit. The sun was already gone, and the moon and stars shone above us. While we were eating Sy wanted to know what we had been up to. We were all doing great, we had jobs and nothing major had happened. Unlike last time, no pregnancy scare for Holly. Me and Brianna did start our own business, after our last employer went bankrupt. We were now the proud owners of our own interior design business.
After we were done telling Sy about the last months, Brianna had asked Sy about his. I saw the look in his eyes change, he looked down at the glass in his hand, and avoided the question. I knew he didn’t want to talk about it. Thankfully, Benjamin understood it as well.
“Sy, a toast to you!” Benjamin said, and raised his glass. “Welcome home man.” We all raised our glasses as well.
“Thank ya Ben, it’s good to be back. And I’d like to thank y’all for writing me those letters. They mean a lot to me,” Sy said. I thought about the letters I’d send him. There were many, so many. A few years ago, I had no idea what to write, but eventually I figured I would write what I wish I could tell him. I wished I could talk to him about my day, about things that bothered me, about things that made me happy.
Quickly I learned he liked it. When he got home the first time I did that, he had thanked me in private. He had told me it helped him get through tough days, that it made him feel like he was home. In that moment, I was so close of telling him how I felt. Yet I couldn’t. I couldn’t risk losing him as a friend.
He did write me back, but his letters weren’t as long as mine. They were usually a paragraph or two. He wasn’t that much of a talker, I knew that, but it didn’t stop me from teasing him.
“Well, next time you could try and write longer ones back you know,” I began. “I have put so much effort into my pages long letters, and all I get back is a paragraph from you just thanking me.” I attempted to pout but started laughing. “Nah, just kidding. We know it means a lot, so we’re happy to write them.”
I smiled at him. The letters kept him sane, and I was happy to send them. Just like the others. I looked at Sy, he sat opposite of me, and I wished he’d sat beside me. His body radiated a warmth that was always welcome, even if he just sat a meter away from me. But from this distance, I could not feel it.
“Don’t be funny darlin’. Might not answer yours next time,” he joked and pulled me out of my thoughts.
“Like you would ignore her Sy,” Shane mocked. Wait, what? What is that supposed to mean. Everybody started laughing, while I was starting to freak out. I had no idea what that was supposed to mean, but the conversation around me continued, and the moment to ask a question about it was gone. My mind was going crazy, and I pretended to listen to the conversation, but I didn’t hear a thing. I know he wouldn’t ignore me, but why did Shane say it like that? And why did Sy suddenly look so awkward?
The fire slowly went out, and that was our cue to head home. We all stood up, and helped Tim clean the mess we made.
“Guys, why don’t you all just go home. I’ll help Tim clean up the rest!” Brianna suggested. I knew she had a thing for my brother, and this was her way of getting close to him. Of being alone with him.
Everyone laughed but agreed. A very nice thing of living close to each other, was that we were all able to walk home. Holly, Shane, and Benjamin walked home together, and Sy suggested he’d walk with me, since we both had to go in a different direction than the others. I walked inside to grab my cardigan, while Sy lifted two lawn chairs back to the shed. When we were out of reach, the others started talking.
“Are they seriously never going to notice they like each other? Or is it just obvious to me?” Shane said.
“Oh dear, it is painfully obvious,” Brianna added.
“I think we need to help them a little. They need a little push,” Holly suggested. They all agreed, but they couldn’t continue discussing their little plan because Sy and I appeared again. Completely unaware of the conversation that just happened.
We said goodbye to Tim and Brianna, and walked home. Holly, Shane, and Benjamin took a left, and Sy and I took a right. It was just us, walking next to each other. It felt nice to be in his presence again, and because I was so close to him, I could finally feel his warmth again. We spend the way walking to my home talking, he wanted to know everything about the business I started with Brianna and how my family was.
Far too soon, we reached my home. We stopped in front of the house, a small 2-bedroom home. But it was nice, and cosy. I liked it there, but I was ready for the next step. To settle down with someone. With him, but I knew that wasn’t going to happen.
We faced each other, and fell silent. I looked at him, the moonlight highlighted his face, and I spotted some new scars. I wanted to trace them with my fingers, but I restrained myself.
“Alright, well, it is so nice to have you back Sy,” I said.
“It is nice to be back here,” he smiled. We fell silent again, and I smiled back at him.
“I should go inside,” I spoke softly, and opened my arms to hug him.
He hummed and wrapped his arms around me. He squeezed me tightly, and I nuzzled my face in his neck. He smelled so good; I loved his cologne. We broke up the hug, but he kept me close and pressed a soft kiss to my cheek. My heart was beating fast, and my breathing started to get heavier.
“Goodnight darlin’,” he said and winked, or at least he tried to.
“Goodnight captain,” I answered, and gave him a smile. He laughed, and started to walk away backwards, and watched me until I was inside. I waved at him before I closed the door and saw how he waved back and turned around to walk home.
I leant with my back to the front door and sighed. Will he for always not notice my feelings for him?
Tumblr media
I watched Tim as he prepared the barbeque. The soft rays of sunlight spreading through the garden. The sunlight reminded me of her, Kathy, or Kat as I liked to call her. Especially the last time I saw her before my deployment. The sun shone on her face, and lit up her hair, making her look like a goddess. I almost broke my promise to myself and told her how I felt. I could never tell her; I didn’t want to ruin our friendship.
The teasing, the banter, the sarcastic comments. Even though I pretended she annoyed me sometimes, I missed her and our dynamic the most while I was away. She kept me sharp, a goal to come back to. Thanks to her I got through those months. Especially her letters. Those long letters.
She was actually the reason I had shown up early at Tim’s house. I was hoping she would be here early too, so we’d have a little moment of privacy. Well, Tim was there, but he knew how I felt. He had known for a long time. I had always seen Kat as Tim’s little sister, but the moment she started to become a woman, that changed. I had always fancied her presence, her humour and we got along very well. But ever since she had grown into a beautiful woman, it had been different. I wanted more, but I knew that would never happen. Nevertheless, I settled for being her friend because I could not bear not having her in my life.
I grabbed a beer and opened it, quickly taking a few sips. Too caught up in my own thoughts, I nearly missed Tim asking me to grab a few more lawn chairs from the shed at the end of the garden. I set my beer down of the table, nodded at him and walked to the shed.
The shed was dark, but I spotted the lawn chairs without any problems. Those nights in the dark desert had increased my night vision. I was about to step outside when I heard it. A laugh, but not just a laugh. Her laugh. It was like music to my ears. She was here, finally. Kat.
Hastily, I stepped outside, and my gaze immediately fell on her. She hugged her brother as they laughed. When Tim let her out of his embrace, her eyes locked with mine. Completely forgotten about the lawn chairs, I dropped them and started to walk towards her. Her feet moved as well, making their way to me, speeding up a little.
Before I knew it, she was in arms reach, and I wrapped my arms around her waist, lifting her up. She wrapped her arms around my neck and squealed. One of her hands stroked my hair that was starting to grow out, and she nuzzled her face in my neck while I smelled the rose scent of her hair. Even though she might not be the smallest, I could lift her up effortlessly and I loved reminding her of that. I could think of another few ways of throwing you around darlin’.
“You’re back,” she said softly.
“Otherwise I wouldn’t be standing here darlin’,” I smiled. She removed her face from my neck and looked at me. She looked even prettier than I remember. I had no idea that was even possible. Don’t get mushy man, damn.
“Welcome home you big idiot,” she grinned at me, and I put her back down on her feet. Uh, not even back for a minute and she’s already teasing me.
“Oh, that’s how ya welcome me back home?” She walked past me and started laughing. She picked up one of the lawn chairs.
“I could also have started by saying you should trim your beard. It looks like shit right now,” she mocked as she walked past me. I placed my hand on my heart, pretending she’d hurt me.
Shaking my head, I picked up the other lawn chair and followed close behind her. She looked good, really good. The jeans she wore hugged her in all the right places. She placed the lawn chair down and looked at me. My eyes immediately left her behind, and I placed the lawn chair I was carrying down as well. She better not be standing with her ass towards me again, or I will smack it.
“Ya know, being disrespectful in the army can get ya in a lot of trouble,” I said and grabbed a beer for her. I handed it to her, our hands lightly touching. Quickly, I grabbed my own beer from the table.
“Really? You’re going to punish me then?” The sunlight caught her face, making her look like an angel. She tried not so smile, but the glistering in her eyes gave her away.
“Who knows.” I chugged the rest of my beer and cocked my eyebrow. I know a few ways I’d like to punish ya darlin’.
Before our conversation could continue, the door to the terrace busted open, and Shane and Benjamin stepped outside. Cheering loudly, chanting my name. They walked over to me and threw their arms around me. They tried to tackle me, but even though they were strong, I was the strongest one of the group. Tim joined us, and they let me go so we could talk.
“Welcome back man,” Benjamin said and slapped me on my back. “We missed ya.”
“I understand, my presence is gift. Y’all should be glad I’m back,” I declared.
“Whatever Sy. Don’t get too cocky,” Tim said, he stood beside me and lifted his arm to smack me on the back of my head. I simply shot him a look, and his arm fell down next to his body again. I chuckled, and from the corner of my eye I saw Holly and Brianna had also arrived. I liked the girls, they were nice and sweet, but most of all good friends.
“Sy! Aren’t you going to say hello to us or what?” Holly shouted. I walked over to them, the other men following close behind.
“Hi girls,” I said and opened my arms for them. I gave them a hug, and everyone started asking me questions. I tried to answer them, when suddenly Brianna yelled.
“Stop! Everyone, stop talking for a minute!” she shouted. “Since Holly and I were a bit late, we missed the famous welcome back hug between Sy and Kathy.” Might have been a reason I was here early.
“I was there,” Tim laughed. “Maybe you should’ve known they would both be here early.”
“We were planning on being early, but sweet Holly over here was being incredible slow,” Brianna said, and I noticed how she looked at Holly like she would kill her. Soon the look turned into a smile nonetheless. Thank you, Holly.
“I think they should do it again,” Holly grinned. I had to try not to grin too much. Being close to her, felt so good. I would love nothing more than to hug her more often, or to cuddle up on the couch together. The chances of that happening, were very slim, and my heart sunk a little in my chest.
“I think they should too, apparently we all, except Tim, missed the highlight of Sy’s return. We should not be robbed of that moment,” Shane agreed, and a smile appeared on his face.
“Oh, come on guys!” Kat said. “The man has just gotten home! Give him a break.” Her comment made them cheer even louder. Doesn’t she want me to hug her again? Well, that’s not my problem ‘cause I’d hug her anytime if it were up to me.
“C’mere darlin’. Let’s give the audience what they want.” I closed the gap between us and wrapped my arms around her. I could smell her perfume, and I didn’t know what kind of scent it was, it just smelled like her. It smelled like home.
Every time I hugged her, there was just one thing I was afraid of. That I would not let her go again, because that’s where she belonged. She belonged in my arms, and I wished she would realize that one day. But I had to let her go again. Shane immediately wrapped an arm around her, while everyone cheered. Soon I noticed someone had put on some music.
“Hey guys, who wants to eat?” Tim shouted. I’m starving but not for that kind of meat.
“Better give me a sausage, I’m in the mood for some meat,” Holly answered with a mischievous grin. She was a sweet girl, always joking around, but don’t you dare mess with her. Don’t you dare mess with Brianna or Kat either, they will make you regret it. I liked that about them, that they were strong women.
An hour later we had finished eating, and we sat around the firepit in Tim’s garden. The sun long gone, the moon and stars providing us some light. The last hour I had mostly asked them how they’ve been, and it did me good to hear everything was going well. Tim’s construction company, where Shane and Benjamin also worked, was doing great. They were happy I would soon be joining them again. Holly’s clothing store has made a big profit in the last month.
I was happy to hear that Kat and Brianna started their own interior design business after the company they worked for went bankrupt. Kat’s eyes lit up when she spoke about it, and I loved seeing her with this passion.
After they were done talking about what they’ve been up to, it was my turn. I told them quickly a few things I could tell them. That I wanted to tell them. Thankfully, none of them asked anymore questions. They knew I preferred to not talk about it.
“Sy, a toast to you!” Benjamin said, and raised his glass. “Welcome home man.” Me and everyone else raised their glasses as well.
“Thanks Ben, it’s good to be back. And I’d like to thank y’all for writing me those letters. They mean a lot to me,” I said. It was true, getting letters while being far away from home, is the best feeling ever. Especially her letters, she had written me long letters, talking about the little things in life. She’d wrote about the weather or an awful client at work. She would just write about her day-to-day life, like she would if I were there. I had kept every single one of her letters, safely stored away in a box that was now underneath my bed.
“Well, next time you could try and write longer ones back you know,” Kat spoke. “I have put so much effort into my pages long letters, and all I get back is a paragraph from you just thanking me.” She pouted, and looked incredible cute, but started laughing. “Nah, just kidding. We know it means a lot, so we’re happy to write them.” She gave me a smile, and I wished she sat closer to me. Instead, she sat across the firepit from me.
“Don’t be funny darlin’. Might not answer yours next time,” I joked.
“Like you would ignore her Sy,” Shane mocked. Shut up Shane. Everyone but her started laughing. Oh no, what is she thinking? Kat looked confused, and I knew she wanted Shane’s comment to be explained. Thankfully, Holly started telling a story about a client in her store, so the moment to address the comment was over. Thank god.
Soon, the fire went out and that was the universal sign for us to go home. We stood up, and started helping Tim clean the plates, cups, and cutlery. I looked at Kat, I liked watching her move. The way her hips swayed when she walked, was one of my favourite parts about her.
“Guys, why don’t you all just go home. I’ll help Tim clean up the rest!” Brianna suggested. I chuckled. Smooth Brianna. I had known for a while she had a thing for Tim, and I knew he felt the same. We all laughed and agreed with her plan. Holly, Shane, and Benjamin walked home together since they lived close to each other. Kat and I had to go the other way.
“I’ll walk you home darlin’,” I said to Kat, and she nodded in response.
“I’m going to grab my cardigan from inside, and then I’m ready to go,” she added, and quickly walked inside. I noticed the lawn chairs still had to be carried back to the shed, so I lifted two up and walked to the end of the garden. I heard the others talk behind me, almost whispering, but I didn’t pay any attention to it.
When I came back, the conversation between them stopped immediately. What were they talking about?
We said goodbye to each other, leaving Tim and Brianna behind. Holly, Shane, and Benjamin went to the left, while me and Kat started walking to the right. It was nice, to be alone with her. Calmness washed over me, while at the same time a fire inside me burned.
During our little walk, we talked. I wanted to know everything about her business, and she happily answered my questions. I watched her from the corner of my eye, when she talked, she uses her hands to gesture around, and it was an adorable sight.
Way too soon we reached her house. We stopped in front of it, and we fell silent. The moon provided a little light, bringing out the beautiful features of her face. I wanted to cup her cheeks and kiss her. Sy, dude, get yourself together. She is a friend. A. friend. You don’t kiss friends like that. Right?
“Alright, well, it is so nice to have you back Sy,” Kat said.
“It is nice to be back here,” I smiled. We fell silent again.
“I should go inside,” she spoke softly, and opened her arms for a hug. I could also go inside with you.
I let out a hum and wrapped my arms around her thick waist. I squeezed her tight, and she nuzzled her face in my neck. I loved it that she wasn’t fragile, and that I could just hug her like I wanted to.
We broke up the hug. I did not let her go yet, I wanted to kiss those soft lips so bad, but I settled for kissing her cheek instead. I hoped she did not hear my heart beating fast, or my sinful thoughts. She let out a little whimper, and I knew I had to let her go before I would drag her into her bedroom.
“Goodnight darlin’,” I said and winked. Shit, forgot I can’t wink.
“Goodnight captain,” she said and laughed at my attempt to wink. I shook my head and took a few steps backwards. I watched her go inside and waved before she closed the door.
I turned around and starting walking to my parents’ house. A few years ago, we had built a cabin at the end of our property. While I was serving, I lived there at the times I was back home. I was now back for good, but I still had to tell Kat, and my friends. It was time to come home, I was ready. I was ready to settle down. With her preferably, but I knew that would never happen.
I sighed, and dropped my head. Why won’t she notice me the way I notice her?
