“Good morning, fellow students and professors! The weather hasn't been that great lately, hasn't it? Autumn may be pretty, but when the breeze comes, it is something that everyone doesn't really appreciate.
Next month, winter will start settling in, and all you will ever see for the consecutive months is snow and cold. Would be nice to stay in your dorms and hide under the blankets, wouldn't it? Sad, we all still have to attend lectures and teach classes. But you know, when winter starts settling in, this means it's December. And then a new year will begin in January and then comes February.
What's in February?
Our annual, Valentine's Day college festival!
When Valentine's day comes, do you all know what that means? If you haven't guessed it by now, you should listen more intently here.
That's right, Guardians of Love is making a comeback!
It starts on the very first day of winter, so mark your calendars, plug in your earphones and tune in to listen to our very own podcast, hosted by Y/L/N Y/N!
See you there!”

Hello, everyone! First, I just wanted to say thank you for the enthusiasm on the first part of Chapter 2! I'm very happy (and relieved) everyone seems to like it. Another thanks for the bug and typo reports. I'll be working on fixing those sometime this week!
I did say I was opening up a Patreon. Anddd here it is! A little breakdown of the tiers.
Fan Tier (3.00$/month)
Author logs + sneak peeks.
Early access to updates.
Early access to RO POV chapters.
Access to Band POVs
Access to drabbles/short stories.
Themed polls and access to voting on development of the game.
Band Member Tier (6.00$/month)
Basically all of the above and more:
Author logs + sneak peeks.
Earlier access to updates.
Early access to POV chapters.
Band and subromance POVs.
Drabbles/short stories.
Access to character flashbacks in MC and cast POVs. (Ex: high school flashbacks, scenes that cant make it into the story).
Access to deleted scenes that didn't make the cut.
Monthly Q&A and media 'interviews' with ROs.
Access to canon and chapter correspondent entries in Seven's song journal.
Polls on the development of the game and stories.
Just sweet and straight to the point. Obviously the biggest pull are the playable POVs which are just individual scenes of the game in the eyes of the ROs and other characters, but you actually get to play it as you would if you were playing the demo. They are canon. That's why it takes me a bit to write as short as they may be.
For example:
Tumblr media
Both tiers have access to it, and as of right now the scenes that are available:
SEVEN'S BALCONY SCENE -> 6.3K WORDS
SEBASTIAN'S BAR SCENE -> 5.2K WORDS
Orion's office scene should be up around...later tonight or tomorrow? The POVs and everything will be sprinkled throughout the month on top of all the other fun stuff haha.
Since these are coded and not just regular short stories and miss amy is prone to errors every which way, please do let me know if there are any errors (I playtested and no game breaking ones).
As for me, I will be taking a small break for a few days as my cold has gotten considerably worse haha. It's been over a week and there's no sign of slowing down gah. I will probably be around to make sure the POVs are smooth sailing and fix any wonkiness on that side. It seems my body has finally told me that I need to slow my roll a bit, so if I'm quiet on this end, you know why!
Anyway, as always, thank you if you do decide to support. And even if you can't or don't, thank you for your love of the story. I'm grateful either way :,)

𝐌𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐨 𝐬𝐟𝐰 𝐚𝐥𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐭
Part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
I don’t think he’d actually talk about his past unless you asked him about it.
If you two had just recently started dating, I see him hesitant to tell you.
But if you two have been going out for a while, then he’ll tell you everything.
As for other things, he might mention stuff about himself randomly, but if you want to know something, just ask him, he’ll tell you.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
Sometimes he’s passive aggressive with other people, but he has more patience with you.
Still, stupid behavior will irritate him. Especially if it’s in a dangerous situation and you’re supposed to be high ranking.
He loves you but don’t be a dumbass in battle🥰
But in other things, he has more patience. Even if you’re trying to anger him it’ll take a bit of work.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
He definitely remembers more about you than any information anyone else gives about themselves.
But he’s still very forgetful. I’m sure you knew that though when you started dating him,
So don’t get mad or disappointed when he fails to remember certain details about you.
Seeing you saddened about this does make him feel bad though, so he started journaling things about you to use as reference. “What was y/n's favorite flower again..?” checks journal “ah, (f/f).”
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
You two were fighting in the Muzan battle together. You were both on the verge of death,
And teamed up, back to back. You told you him you wanted to spend the rest of your life with him… here, and in the afterlife as well. You two would go down together.
It was a beautiful confession of love, even if you were already dating him.
With renewed strength, you two fought the hardest you ever had. And survived.
There was nothing quite like that smile of triumph you gave each other.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
Protective as hell. This man won’t let any harm come to you.
You don’t have to worry when you’re with him, in public, on missions, at home. You’re always safe. The lives of other people should take priority as a demon slayer, not his girlfriend.
It goes against what he believes, but it’s such a hard choice, and ultimately it's you.
He’ll feel bad afterwards, but he needs you. He hates seeing you hurt in any way.
how could he save some random person over the one he loves the most?
He doesn’t want to be protected. He doesn’t think he needs to be. He’s strong, he’s capable, he’s gone through and seen a bunch of shit, don’t worry about him.
Just hold him in your arms, kiss him and tell him you won’t ever leave. That’s all the security he needs.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, and everyday tasks?)
Not much effort, I admit… He’s very laid back, and as I described before, dates with him aren’t extravagant or overly romantic. It’s sweet and relaxing, taking comfort in each other's presence.
It’s not too uncommon for him to bring you gifts; he’ll see something cute, think of you and buy it. This is spontaneous, he never really has thoughts like “Today, I’m going to buy something nice for y/n”. He enjoys cooking, cleaning, and doing tasks in general alongside you. He does want to help you, and he wants to be near you, so it's perfect. But anniversaries? Unless you mention it, I don’t think he’d realize it came up. And that goes for other special occasions as well, like your birthday.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
Probably the fact he sometimes zones out during important conversations.
You have to snap him out of it.
He might also zone out while you’re lecturing him about something, which is really irritating.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
Not at all. He barely thinks about things like that. He has more important stuff to worry about.
He knows his time is valuable, while he’s concerned about his appearance, lives are been lost. It’s a waste of time.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
There’s just something missing.
His life was brightened when you came into it, without you?
It’s just not the same. It’s dark again. It’s serious and gloomy and he’s missing all the new feelings you ignited in him. He misses your touch and your voice and your smile and laughter, he misses the warmness in his chest as you cradle him, now it's empty again.
Of course he feels incomplete without you.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them)
He can play the flute well if you ask him to. It’s relaxing and puts you to sleep.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
Being happy and energetic is fine, but just don’t be super loud. He doesn’t like noisy people.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs?)
Sometimes you can hear him mumbling in his sleep.
It’s really soft so most of the time it's incoherent.
Also, his grip on you tends to be loose at first until you move, then it gets really firm.
so you have to wake him up for whatever reason.

~~~~~~
“sweets… why don’t you take a break?”
“don’t have time for a break, Eds. I gotta catch up, I’m so behind!”
“you’ve been studying for hours, I’m sure you’re plenty caught up for tonight.”
“Eddie. please, I really need to get this done.” you turn your eyes away from the textbook, seeing his defeated look and it makes your chest pang with guilt.
why didn’t you do it earlier?
why did you take on more than you knew you could handle?
you should be spending time with him.
“okay, just come to bed soon.” he leans down to kiss the top of your head before making his way into the bedroom, leaving you at the dining table with nothing but the quiet murmurs outside the trailer to distract you.
soon doesn’t come though, as you find yourself in a steady groove. powered only by too much coffee and sheer willpower.
you don't even notice the time until you hear a familiar pair of boots making their way up the stairs to the trailer’s front door.
there was no way you stayed up all night?
oh but you had, and it only made you grow even more frustrated with yourself.
“mornin’, kid. didn't expect you to be up yet.” Uncle Wayne trudges through the trailer, eyeing the table you had cluttered with many textbooks and journals.
“didn't exactly go to sleep...” a heavy sigh following your words.
“well, maybe you're just a night owl like me.”
“I don't think I can do it anymore.” you admit with a toss of your pen onto the table. feeling completely overwhelmed by the amount of work you still have yet to do.
“do what?” he pries, sitting beside you in a dining chair. he begins taking off his boots, waiting for you to explain.
“this.” you answer, gesturing your hands to the mound of homework assignments.
“I just feel like I’m in a never-ending cycle of work, school, work, school. when do I get to do things I enjoy? when do I get to spend time with Eddie or you? this is the first time I've seen you in a week because usually before you even get home from work I’m on my way to my job. and then by the time I finally make my way back you've left for your shift. and Eddie is being so patient with me, but I know he's upset that I haven't been spending any time with him.”
you pause to catch your breath, having said it all in one and certainly too fast. he thinks of starting to speak but holds off knowing you're not quite done with your vent.
that’s Wayne’s thing, he’s a listener first and a problem solver second. always more than willing to offer a solution to whatever you need help with but never cutting you off.
“I just don't think I can do it all anymore. it’s too much pressure.” you finish, looking over to see a very empathetic Uncle Wayne locking eyes with you. seeing the tears welling up in your eyes makes his heart ache for you.
“listen kiddo, I know it’s hard right now. shit’s stressful, s’all part of growin’ up. unfortunately there’s not much I can change about that.” his hand comes around to pat you the shoulder, trying to comfort you just as the tears breach your eye-line.
“but I know you’ll regret your decision. hell, I wish I had just half the perseverance you do to finish school. you've already worked so hard to get to this point, don't give up on your dreams.”
“but with work I—”
“I told ya to lessen your hours at your job!” he chuckles lowly, attempting to lighten the mood but quickly speaks up again before you argue.
“you should just worry about school, let me and Eddie help take care of ya. s’what we like to do. family helps family, and that means I’m not gonna let you quit on yourself. even if it means I gotta come home from work and give you a pep talk every mornin’. but I’d much rather you sleep at night, nightshift ages ya.”
you sit with his words for a moment, contemplating. sure, it would be amazing to only have to worry about your studies, but was it logically the best option?
“just sleep on it.” Wayne interrupts your train of thought. “don’t make any big decisions on exhaustion.”
“yeah…  yeah, you’re right. I should get some sleep.” you sigh, slowly standing up from the table and stretching your sore back.
“sleep tight, darlin’.” he hugs you tightly, knowing you needed it. he is proven right once again when he first attempts to release you, but your grip stays tight on him. he doesn’t mind though, he’s always happy to comfort you when you need it.
“thank you.” you whisper before letting him go. he gives a single nod in reply before you turn to walk to the bedroom.
the door creaks open louder than you had hoped, but Eddie didn’t stir at all at the sound. you pad across the bedroom to your side of the bed, slipping under the covers which engulfed you in the scent of your boyfriend.
unfortunately as soon as you relax into the mattress, he immediately notices your presence.
“baby…” his voice quiet and slightly whiney.
“hi Eds.” you whisper back, wiggling into his arms.
“what time is it?”
“um… well, Wayne is home.” you answer honestly, despite his request for you to go to bed with him.
“did you get your work done?”
he doesn’t scold you, and he doesn’t complain that you never showed up last night, something you’ve always appreciated about him. he doesn’t hold anything against you because at the end of the day, or perhaps the beginning in today’s case, he only wants you to do what you love.
he doesn’t want you to give up on your dreams and passions because he knows this is what you want. you’ve worked so hard and he would never want to hold you back, especially since you’ve never once stopped him from following his own dreams.
“I got enough done for now.” you answer with a yawn, cozying into his body even more.
“sounds like you were cryin’, baby. you okay?”
“yeah, I’m okay. Uncle Wayne gave me a pep talk, helped me with something.”
“he’s a good man.” you know he’s smiling, you can hear it in his voice.
His uncle, his dad, is known for giving the best pep talks in the house. it’s no surprise he gave you one when he walked into the trailer this morning, seeing as he’s given you quite a few already and you’ve overheard his chats with Eddie.
“he really is. I don’t deserve him.”
“uh yes you do. we all deserve an Uncle Wayne, you just lucked out like me and got the real deal.”
“yeah, I really did get lucky ending up in a family with the two of you.” you yawn once again as you speak, exhaustion finally sinking in.
and you meant every word you said. The Munsons were your family, and Wayne took you in without a second thought and wide-open arms, because his son loved you. you could never fully find the words to express your gratitude to him. but it was okay, because he already knew, and that alone was more than enough for him.
“[Peter’s] really a genius, a prolific musician — he plays about seven instruments.” - Micky Dolenz, Record Mirror, February 11, 1967
“[Peter is] an incredible musician. [..] And he's a genius, the man is a genius at music. As I said, Peter was — and is — a genius in music. And he got very frustrated because he wasn’t able to satisfy himself creatively. And Mike felt the same way. […] Peter is writing, he’s writing songs. He’s an incredible songwriter. And if you’re watching, dummy, get some publishing because you’re a great songwriter.” - Micky Dolenz, Tomorrow with Tom Snyder, 1977
“[N]o one of us really supported any of the others except that — that I like to think that I tried to support Micky in a way which, for some reason, he never did pick up on. I mean, I think that Micky has a certain kind of genius that he was never able to acknowledge in himself.” - Peter Tork, Headquarters radio, September 1989
“Peter is the best rock guitarist around today. He plays about ten instruments in all — just about everything with strings. Mike and I also play guitars, although we are not in Peter’s class.” - Davy Jones, Melody Maker, January 14, 1967
“Peter Tork has to be one of the best guitarists around — he can cut anybody on guitar. He plays about 10 instruments — banjo, uke, the lot.” - Davy Jones, The Ottawa Journal, January 20, 1967
“Hey listen, fair is fair. They laugh and joke about that [‘Lady’s Baby’]. OK, it cost as much to do I think as ‘Good Vibrations.’ They were laughing about Peter Tork, but that [song] is a true-to-life thing. He was living with a woman [Karen Harvey] at the time and she had a little baby [Justin Hammer] and that changed his life, you know? That gave him something to think about. He was being downtrodden by the studio in regard to his recording and his playing and his songs and everything else, but the guy was the salt of the earth. It wasn’t just Hare Krishna, waterbeds and brown rice. That guy was a very, very accomplished musician. He needed magic to be able to do get in and do ‘Lady’s Baby.’ It’s a nice song. It’s true. It’s got the warmth and everything of what he was living. ‘Lady’s Baby’ touches me, lets me know that I am free, whatever it is. I remember it so well. It’s a real tune, you know? I love it.” - Davy Jones, The Monkees: The Day-By-Day Story of the ‘60s TV Pop Sensation (2005)
“Well, Davy’s always been a man of great talent and heart and I had just been hoping to work with him some more. He had such talent. He was probably the most talented of us all. He certainly had the best pitch and the best time. He should probably have been the drummer or the bass player of something. He should have been in the rhythm section. It’s kind of amazing – the two guys with the best time in the band weren’t in the rhythm section [laughs]. That was a little weird, looking back. And he was so able – there was just nothing he couldn’t do. I remember once in the middle of a tour, we said, ‘Well, we want to do this song, and we want to do it this way. But we’re missing a bass player. Davy, here’s a bass. Put your fingers here and pluck this string there.’ Next thing you knew, he was playing bass on stage like that night or two nights later or something. It was nothing major – he wasn’t popping strings and doing runs and fills, but he was laying down a bass and it was solid – it was solid. And that kind of ability is, I think, what I’m going to miss … what I’m sorriest to see go.” - Peter Tork, LeHigh Valley Live, June 2012
“I have a great deal of respect for Mike as a musician and a songwriter. He’s very good. He could make it on his own easily. Also he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.” - Peter Tork, Flip, August 1967
"Nesmith is an astounding artist, and he’s very funny." - Peter Tork, Monkees Convention Q&A, 1982
“I still have a lot of respect for Michael.” - Peter Tork, WDBB, February 2006
“There are two common and, to me, repugnant notions about the Monkees. Number one, that I was the only one who had any talent, which is patently absurd. It’s as unfair and as unkind as it is stupid. The other one is that I was the only musician. I wasn’t the only musician and I wasn’t much of a musician. Peter was a much more skillful player than I was by some orders of magnitude.” - Michael Nesmith, The Monkees Tale (1989)
"Everyone was accomplished – the notion I was the only musician is one of those rumors that got started and won't stop – but it was not true. Peter was a more accomplished player than I by an order of magnitude, Micky and Davy played and sang and danced and understood music." - Michael Nesmith, Rolling Stone, March 8, 2012
City C, University P -- the way modern chinese names places
Alright, you may have come across such initial-based namings in books, danmei and other cnovels: City S, University P, C市 (City C), S大 (University S)
-- is it lazy translation? why aren't they giving places actual names?
A tad bit of informal history below:
When did it start?
As a person very much inexperienced in chinese historical literature, I couldn't say for sure either. But what I do know, is that it has been in writing since the 20th century (around the 1920s and after). You see renowned writers of that time like Lu Xun 鲁迅 and Zhu Ziqing 朱自清 using these initials.
(I don't have concrete examples in mind, so I'm flipping about what I have around me, and Zhu Ziqing and Lu Xun's books happen to be near me so -- let me use their works as examples of the day.)
There's this novella Lu Xun wrote, with a protagonist which he named 阿Q (read as "Ah-Q"). I also see in his short stories that he named a dog S, a side character 小D (Little D), and a city S城 (City S).
Zhu Ziqing tends to write more about realistic things that happen in his life in the form of short writings, and for that reason he uses initials way less. He did refer to a person by "Y" in one of the pieces though.
So what are they doing?
So around that time of Lu Xun (we're in the republican era) there's a movement called the May Fourth Movement, and out of the movement it spurred in the literary realm the New Culture Movement. I honestly don't want to go into the details and confuse everyone with my inexperience here, what is worth noting is that they began promoting "modern chinese" (白话 bái huà) over "classical chinese" (文言 wén yán). "Modern chinese" is the kind of chinese you read in cnovels and everywhere else nowadays.
And in this movement, they also advocated quite a lot of western ideas. This is where they proposed a complete romanisation of chinese characters, and probably to do with this, in their new modern chinese writings, they started using anglicised phrases like "City Y" and "Dog S".
All movements are controversial, their failure or success is controversial, I really don't want to get into past history so let's move on.
What they use now.
When journalling one's own experiences, important places and all that, obviously real places and names are used. Otherwise, in fiction, alphabetic initials are used in place, likely to 1. distance fiction from real life, and also I suppose nowadays 2. to avoid heated topics. For instance china may be referred to as 华国 (Huá guó), which probably makes things less sensitive and easier to handle.
again i really don't want to get into nations and stuff. let me literary-this meta out in peace.
How can I understand where means where?
It took me a while to get used to them, basically sometimes you can guess the place -- City B may be Beijing, C could be Chongqing, S could be Shanghai -- the big metropolitan cities. University T and P (or Q and B) would be Tsinghua and Peking University.
As for the other names, when they say University A or High School No. 1 it usually means the top school in the area, because (at least for high schools) that's how quite a number of schools are named. If you couldn't tell what the letter represents, it's probably a random one.
additional note: these initials are only used in modern and futuristic sci-fi novels (at least from what I've seen so far!) using letters in historical or historical fantasy ones would break the fourth wall quite a bit for me haha.
Addendum
See Guardian article linked in the comments should you be interested.
Some points of note, made up places have been used in other fiction too, to avoid trespassing geographical localities and cultures aboriginal to a group of people;
Russian novels also have used mysterious initials -- "in the town of P", this is in the 19th and 20th century -- so it may well have come from Russia instead of literature under greco-roman influence (excuse the terrible description) -- but likely it did result from the movements, that's what instigated modern chinese writing in the first place.
(yeah it's on my lack of russian classics perusal -- i'll rectify that some time.)
This is probably dumb bc I have no experience in journalism so sorry in advance! But I do want to be a better reader and had a couple q's about things in the rusty quill article that pinged my radar
1. Under section 5 I believe, the author listed their and their colleagues' contact details as a way for former RQ employees to reach out for potential employment, surely they should have straight up not done that, especially with the real/perceived conflict of interest?
2. Was using TMA character names as pseudonyms a legitimate flag or just a lil weird? To me it seemed petty to use names from their biggest work, but again I'm not well versed in journalism and for all I know using names related to the subject is a normal thing
3. Is it normal to have so many leading questions hinting at but not quite stating the conclusion they wanted readers to reach? The sheer amount really jumped out at me but again im not sure if that's normal!
Massive thank you if you choose to answer, I have no idea what I might need to google to get answers haha
Thanks so much for the ask! No such thing as stupid questions, and you point out a lot of good things here.
Yes, absolutely, that's a conflict of interest. Should have been a tweet after the fact, if anything.
For me, the issue with the names is that many TMA characters were named after RQ employees. In my experience, anonymous sources usually don't have names unless there are enough of them that it would be confusing to refer to them by their role, which is certainly true here. I don't have experience of knowledge of the standard industry practice. But personally, it does seem like a red flag — explicitly naming central characters after people you know your readership has a personal positive connection to is not going to make for an unbiased story.
Nope. Absolutely not. Good unbiased investigative journalism lets the readers reach their own conclusion, with facts and quotes so hard-hitting and indisputable that you already know what the conclusion is going to be anyway.
Thanks so much for the questions! You're absolutely spot on with flagging these issues.
Insectopedia, by Hugh Raffles
Do not judge this book by its cover! Despite what the name would suggest, this is not a comprehensive encyclopedic volume that encompasses insect knowledge related to matters like species, classification, diets, orders and general factoids. No, no, this is a different branch in the world of insect exploration. The passages, stories and analysis of 'Insectopedia' are more philosophical, anthropological (based on human society and culture) rather than locked into a box of science and research (though they do play a big part of this book). Compared to the previous literature showcase, 'Sting of the Wild', this book is far more unconventional and explores a wider range of topics, but having read it twice now, I think it offers something that very few other works can. It's one thing to outline insect facts, research, discoveries and their place in the world; it's another thing entirely to examine how insects impact the world & humanity, how humanity impacts insects, how cultures, traditions and ideas can be shaped through our hexapod friends. This book embraces the eclectic and shares it as a multitude of essays and stories that truly highlight how curiosity and fascination can develop into passions, discoveries, introspections, livelihoods and in some cases, obsessions. This collection of musings and insight is also reinforced by a citation heavy note section and bibliography and countless anecdotes across 26 chapters (named alphabetically).
In a sense, it resonates like a collection of short stories or a scientific journal publishing with a great scope of content and findings to comb through. My personal favorite chapters are the ones on 'Languages' (see Picture 5) and the 'O' chapter (not pictured), which deserves to be experienced fresh. All I'll leave you with is the name of that chapter, 'On January 8, 2008, Abdou Mahamane Was Driving through Niamey...". Both are among the longest chapters this work has to offer, but there are many more bite-sized chapters that offer stories that are short and sweet. There's little to no connectivity between each chapter and though the material may bounce back and forth wildly and some chapters barely reference insects (though nature is still an important focus), reading earlier chapters will likely reinforce appreciation for the subject material in the later sections. All that said, I think this book would be best recommended for those entering high school or university and to those who like their material dry and matter-of-fact, but also engaging (somewhat like a passionate lecture). Once again, the subject matter is the onus for a small age-gate or maturity-gate for this book, but it is a small gate. In particular, chapters C, J, Q and S are intended for more mature readers, but if you can understand and handle the subject matter, great knowledge will be your reward (for example, Chapter 'C' is 'Chernobyl', featuring a woman who examines radiation-induced insect deformities).
I know I've been somewhat vague on the exact information that can be gleamed from Insectopedia, but this is a deliberate choice. The material in this book should be read with an open mind and there shouldn't be any spoiled surprises for the journeys and insights discussed from cover to cover. If you seek examples for the type of material this book has to offer, Pictures 3-9 offer the tiniest gate to sample what Insectopedia can offer (and as prefaced at the beginning of the book, "The minuscule, a narrow gate, opens up an entire world" - Gaston Bachelard). You will not find identification guides in it nor will you find ways to distinguish one insect order from another, but it may grant some enlightenment or stir passion, discussion or a curiosity to further explore the ideas presented within and how they've evolved since the book's publishing in 2010. This may provide a great starting point for any students in need of a thesis topic! I suppose Picture 10 (presented by the Knight and a glow-in-the-dark Caterpillar) summarizes it far better than I could. I may have expected something more conventional in the beginning, I am definitely recommending this book and I'll be reading it again after I explore some of the papers within the bibliography. For me, this was the surprise of the year, and while there are times where I think it may be to eclectic (nearing "all over the place"), I was exposed to many new areas of study and I appreciate the stories and points of view I would never have heard had I stuck to only the usual material.
For additional insect literature, you may visit the Blog Resources page.
Untouchable for Life, Chapter 1 (Anetra x Sasha Colby) - Writworm42
Admin Note: I'm so worry, Writ!! You should have been in the last queue, and I'm also sorry that it's taken me a million years to fix it after you told me. I have no excuse, I just completely forgot and I apologize deeply! -V
A/N: Summary: Anetra should be grateful for his new job as a photographer for the city's biggest queer tabloid. Especially considering how hard he fucked up before landing there. But it's all lost on him until he's roped into a special assignment, one that ties Sasha Colby into his life. But can the knots that bind him to his past be undone? Or will the cord he and Sasha walk on snap?
Sorry not sorry for all the puns in the summary fhdsjfk but I promise chapter summaries will have more specific to the chapters themselves and the story as a whole!!!
Anyways, remember how I said I'd never write another multichap bc they're too much stress? WELP! Thank you nickysjaida for encouraging me and athena for beta-ing, you're both so wonderful <3
Fic title from I Turn My Camera On by Spoon
Anetra sighs, dropping his head into his hands as his thoughts race. His boss watches in front of him intensely, almost to the point of scrutiny, but what can he do?
He doesn’t exactly have options here.
“I just don’t get why—“
“The board wanted you gone,” Michele shuts him down immediately. “Hell, they wanted your head on a platter! This is the best I can do for you. You either take it, or you go collect your things.”
“But I wouldn’t even get to write!” Anetra huffs. “Not even captions or anything!”
“I know,” Michele says coolly. “Why do you think I was able to negotiate this? You’re too good to lose, Anetra, but I guarantee if you walk, it’ll be the last time you ever work in journalism, photo or otherwise.”
Anetra groans. Michele is absolutely right—he fucked up, and fucked up big. Lose his credibility big. Sue the whole company big.
But does that really mean he has to go to Q-Beat ? He’ll be a laughingstock in the journalistic community— Q-Beat may be the most popular queer magazine in the country, but it’s barely above a tabloid. Hell, maybe it’s worse—they’re probably the only print mag he can think of that has more listicles in one issue than actual pieces, and the product placements are so obvious they might as well just say Absolut wrote the news updates.
There’s a reason the whole industry calls it Q-Bait as a joke.
But with the scandal he’s in, he can’t afford to negotiate now. If he wants to do anything other than Walmart Christmas portraits for the rest of his life, he has no choice but to take this job.
"Fine," he finally sighs, grabbing the contract and pulling it closer. "Give me a pen."
--
The Charles Media building is often referred to as a marvel of architecture in the city, and the reputation isn’t unearned. Standing under its sloped, pink-painted roof are twenty-five floors of different print outlets, each an empire in its own right. Anetra has to admit, it’s kind of impressive--from magazines to books, encyclopedias to graphic novels, if you can flip or scroll through it, you can find it nestled among the offices in the tower.
Perhaps most impressive, though, is the way the architects were clearly so committed to the bit when they designed the place. From floors one to twelve, everything is wide, spacious, and decorated in black and silver. The floors narrow slightly after that, and from thirteen all the way to its sloped roof, the building’s colour scheme is a deep magenta, with sparkle and hints of blush. And that’s just the outside--within the walls of 96 Tucker Avenue, things are even more colourful, bringing the entire aesthetic full circle.
The perfect shade of lipstick for the perfect media queendom, both inside and out.
At least, that’s the vision the company projects. Right now, Anetra feels anything but perfect—and from the way his coworkers avoid him in the elevator, he’s pretty sure the feeling is mutual.
At least Q-Beat is near the top floor. Once the last few people filter out around the sixteenth floor, he has the elevator car all to himself, leaving him alone to try and collect his thoughts.
From what Anetra knows, the farther up the tower you go, the more isolated the group, meaning there’s a chance that no one at Q-Beat knows who he is or what he’s done. A perfectly fresh start. Good; his talent will speak for itself that way, and he can make friends based on that. If he even wants to--maybe friends aren’t such a good idea. The main condition of being able to keep this job was to lay low, after all.
Plus, the longer he tends to stay in one place, the less people seem to want him around. Especially now that he’s a liability.
It’s a thought that hurts, and he’s glad to be able to swallow it as the elevator comes to a stop at the twenty-third floor.
The sight that awaits Anetra as the elevator doors glide open makes his jaw drop.
Back on the eighth floor where Anetra’s old magazine was located, everything had been all business all the time. The walls and the floor were a stern black, with tiles that clicked under your feet as you walked. There had been almost no decor in the entrance either, other than a pair of leather chairs under a harsh silver sign directing visitors to various offices tucked behind heavy mahogany doors.
But on the twenty-third floor?
Anetra can’t help but feel like he might as well be on an alien planet. He had expected pink, had expected some sparkle and embellishment. But he had had no idea just how much of a culture shock it would be. It’s such a contrast, he barely knows where to start—though maybe the entrance is as good a place as any. The floor’s lobby is fully furnished with tables and chairs and even some floral arrangements, separated from the action by only a glass door and floor-to-ceiling windows that allow a clear view of the Q-Beat workspace behind it. The floors are plush zebra-print carpet, the walls an almost violent pink lit up by a fluorescent sign welcoming visitors to Q-Beat with cursive font. And when Anetra peers into the office space, he sees not a maze of cubicles, but an open floor plan that’s bustling with people in casual dress.
In other words, friendly coworkers and lax norms without anywhere to hide from either.
Fuck.
“Are you Anetra?”
Anetra snaps to attention and sees a tall blonde standing in the office’s doorway looking at him with anxious eyes.
"Oh, um… Yes?" He frowns. He was supposed to meet the editor-in-chief first, but this woman is in jeans and a tank top that shows off well-defined muscles and big tattoos, her hair fluffed up in an almost rockabilly style--definitely not like any chief Anetra has seen before.
"Are you asking me or telling me?" The woman's eyes narrow. "Because I have a meeting in fifteen minutes and only ten before my Ativan hits, so I really need to get a move on orienting you if you are."
Anetra decides right then and there that no matter who this woman is, he definitely likes her.
“I’m Anetra,” he tries again, stepping forward and extending a hand for the woman to take.
“Loosey LaDuca, she/her pronouns, editor-in-chief,” she shakes his hand firmly. But before he can drop his hand away, she grips it harder, pulls him forward through the glass doors and into the office.
“Let me introduce you to the others, they’re really excited to meet you.”
Crap.
Loosey’s tour of the Q-Beat workspace is a whirlwind, so fast that Anetra almost wishes he’d brought a notebook with him. Though that probably wouldn’t have done much to help him either; Loosey doesn’t even stop to breathe as she charges through the office with Anetra in tow, so he seriously doubts she would have let him slow down to write. At least he avoids seeing too much of the team this way; Loosey’s version of ‘introducing’ is more like drive-by name-dropping, and Anetra is perfectly content to settle for the waves he and his new coworkers exchange as he passes.
Good things can’t last forever, though, and sure enough, Loosey’s tour comes to a hard stop right in front of a large table surrounded by people who immediately turn all their focus on Anetra.
“This right here is our photography department. Well, two of them are,” Loosey rolls her eyes. “The rest of you, get back to work please?”
“Hey, they were working!” a short woman with hair almost as big as Loosey’s protests. “Half of them were reviewing the photos that are going to go with their article.”
“Uh-huh, and the other half?” Loosey retorts.
“Is this Poppy’s replacement?” The other woman left at the table pipes up quickly, a smooth change of subject accompanied by an even smoother smile.
“Oh, yes,” Loosey says, her eyebrows raising in surprise as if she’d forgotten Anetra was beside her. “Anetra, this is Mistress--” she points to the smaller woman, who nods curtly, “--And this is Salina. Ladies, Anetra is coming to us from News Summary Weekly , so things might work a little differently here than he’s used to. So be nice, Mistress.”
“Hey!” Mistress huffs when Loosey shoots her an extra-pointed look.
“You know I’m right,” Loosey rolls her eyes. “Now, will you guys take over from here? These pills are not doing what they’re supposed to, so I’m gonna go take a three-minute power nap before I have to talk budget for the rest of the afternoon.”
“Sweet dreams!” Salina calls after her, cackling when Loosey shoots her the middle finger over her shoulder in response.
Just like that, their attention is turned back on Anetra, giving him the distinct feeling of having been thrown to the wolves.
“So you’re from the political phonebook, huh?” Mistress starts in right away, her lip twitching as she looks Anetra up and down. “You’re certainly dressed like it.”
“Hey, wait a second,” Salina adds pensively, “Ain’t that the magazine with the guy who--”
“Sorry, what are your guys’ pronouns?” Anetra cuts in fast before Salina can finish that sentence, hoping to God the heat he feels rising in his cheeks isn’t visible to the two women before him. “I use he/him.”
“She/her for both of us,” Mistress answers with narrow eyes, her tone of voice skeptical. Anetra’s going to have to look out for her, he can tell. But at least Salina seems distracted enough—her attention is already back on her computer, which she wastes no time in sliding over to Anetra.
“Alright, newbie, come here and sit down, let me show you all the different softwares and shit we use in this department.”
It’s a close call, but he’ll take it. He smiles gratefully as he moves over beside Salina, leaning in close to get to work.
i'm pretty sure you've made a few posts about doing potential crossovers with your ocs, so i wanted to know if you think any of your ocs would be friends? or at least be able to sit in a room together?
Thanks so much for this q!! I've been pretty into talking about my ocs so really really appreciate you sending the question! <33
I have a couple of them here (and I don't think I can get to all of them, so this is just a tl;dr of some of them, esp ones that are 'technically mcs' from other books) including some additions that I should expand on so here's a quick rundown:
Inam (oc, laws-ish) -> Inam started out as my old Laws MC I played with, but quickly morphed into a completely different character. She's a IP lawyer who works for a prominent firm and is on strictly professional terms with Nora. They hit up each other after Nora did her thing with the Hand of Mahra and collaborate sometimes, on say the process of discovery in a case or just merely consulting each other on subject matters. They're not friends, I'd like to think but also not entirely enemies, if that makes sense. It's usually the tough stuff they really do reach out for help, otherwise they're just merely correspondences over a phone call or an email.
Ramona "Rowan" (mc, murder at homecoming) -> Rowan is also not technically "part of the gang" rather she comes to New York for an internship and stumbles onto the old story of those 'corrupted cops' Nora was looking into, many years ago (that got her kicked out from the NYPD). Rowan was targeted by the very same precinct and so Nora found out, she reached out to her and both of them settled down to talk about it. They're still in touch w each other, but Rowan ends up moving onto different prospects - the whole "kid detective" thing got too dangerous with Gabbie her parents didn't want to put her in such a career, so she took up investigative journalism instead in a non-profit company which is where she meets Aloka.
Aloka (mc, veil of secrets) -> Aloka, after the events in Birchport, ends up going back to New York to work for a non-profit investigative journalism company that were impressed with her work on the Sterling murders. She ends up creating a whole new life for herself there - having been a little worn-out by the stuff she wrote for the New York Gazette and reluctant to work with the FBI. Her domain of interest is reporting on 'missing people cases' specifically people of colour who are constantly overlooked by the media as well as 'instituitional corruption' which is why she was keen on taking up Rowan under her wing after reading her work. The two would have this kind of Gandalf/Frodo relationship where Aloka looks out for Rowan after learning she'd never had someone who was an adult figure who believed in her.
Morgan (oc, the unexpected heiress- next generation): Morgan is basically the 'next gen'/descendant of 'Lillian' Hayes (name in quotes as placeholder) and basically the Hayes family being this wealthy well-to-do electricity moguls passed down from generation to generation. Morgan is the next heir, their focus is on the Hayes-Horowitz company's R&D division where they aim to create more sustainable technology, which leads to a lot of say, patent troubles which is where Inam comes in. Morgan is pretty much Inam's regular client since they work in a field of mechanics, electronics and tech where it's prevalent to run into intellectual property disputes which suck. The two of them then have this sort of deep, close friendship and the shared love of getting into the thick of the mysteries as well as their background in STEM, as well as their general motivations in life, so to speak.
and some new ocs/mcs i haven't talked about and i'm probably going to fuck it up by introducing them into this shared world!
Ronan "Cato" (mc, the heist: monaco): Cato is the name he goes by as an alias, as well as irl and after the events of The Heist, he ends up doing some more - stealing from the rich and donating the profits to museums and libraries and schools. (Ik there are multiple endings and Cato does end up running a little international crime organization in the Good one) but I hc a couple years later, he kind of fades into retirement - despite having like villas in Spain etc, he kind of settles down in New York since his friends Eris and Rye end up kind of in their own bubbles - can't be an international thief all the time.
I'd like to think he goes for "one last heist" on his own and ends up getting caught by Nora and they kind of engage in their own quid pro quo - in exchange for Cato telling her the real story, his reasons for doing-so-and-so and for Nora to let him go, only for her to stumble onto something insanely massive. Or maybe he engages in a different "heist", meets up with Trystan and they just become really good friends because why not? Trystan knows people in literature, in underground drug rings, in the highest of posts in a dictatorship country, what's one more friend?
Penn (oc, platinum-ish): I'd like to think Penn became a full-time producer for MC while he was at Overknight records - maybe after Micah (Ozone) leaves to focus on his own career (?). Penn ends up producing a lot of smash hits for 'Cadence' and I'd like to think he meets Inam after Cadence gets her own sort of "Lana Del Ray sued by Radiohead" suit after her. Inam's admittedly a very good IP lawyer, so they win the lawsuit (I hc Inam received help from Nora, who in-turn received a lesson in music theory by Samaya). I feel like Penn would also end up in Trystan's social circle somehow and they'd know something about each other - he is a critically-acclaimed producer after all.
Tomyris 'Iris' (oc, the phantom agent prequel): GAIA must have had a starting point, so I'd like to think Iris was one of those masterminds who built it up from the beginning. It wouldn't have been called GAIA (since I assume the real TPA story takes place years into the future where advanced world-ending tech ends up taking over the world), rather maybe starting out as a private detective business that kind of allies itself with the Ginovesi Agency. Iris is just one person, they kind of started out as a cop themselves but saw the internal corruption and decided to leave the position. I'd also like to think Iris tackles a whole different domain than Nora does. Their forte would be more on the side of "financial disputes and embezzlement" and would likely join forces with Nora upon knowing they could benefit from each other rather than worry they are each other's enemies.
Iris's character is still a WIP so I don't know how to approach their story a little. Maybe I'll figure it out someday, but as of now I'll stick with the characters mentioned in my original OC list and figure out the rest lmao
Thank you so much for sending me an ask!
Hello! Can you write a plot with Fabio Q meeting a jornalist? Thanks
Fabio Quarararo- Crush
A/n: a lot of this will be Fabio's POV
This year is starting like most do with me flying out to Qatar to report on the first motogp race of the season. I have been doing this since 2019 but this year is going to be slightly different as usually I am there just as a journalist but this year I have a job with a tv broadcaster and so I will be doing some presenting and my usual interviews but they will also be filmed for tv now. The whole reason I'm in this position is because after finishing school I used the money I had from working part time to travel to races and trying to combine my passions which are writing and MotoGP. When I tried it I thought I would only make it to a few races but for some reason people actually liked what I wrote and I was able to make some money off it which meant I could keep going to races. Over time I kept building on what I was doing and now I'm very proud of everything I created but it's time to change things up a bit and try presenting as well as journalism.
As much as I'm very nervous about the switch as writing something to post online and appearing live on tv are very different things I know I just need to do what I always do and I will be fine. It also helps that the first person I'm going to interview is my favourite rider Fabio, I know I'm not supposed to have favourites but he has always been super kind to me and always smiles at me when we see each other in the paddock. I know that that isn't anything special but most people don't acknowledge me when I'm walking around the paddock as I usually keep myself to myself but Fabio always acknowledges my existence which is nice. Having him be the first person I interview for tv is keeping me calmer as I know that he will be patient with me if things go wrong and he's always happy to answer questions when we did media last year so hopefully he'll be the same this year.
When I arrived this morning I was given a schedule and joined by a camera man straight away so that we could go and set up our filming spot for the day. I wasn't really sure what I was supposed to be doing as I have never had to film interviews before as I always just use my phone to record the audio but luckily everyone else knew what they should be doing so I just had to prepare my questions and notes. As we had a bit of time before Fabio would arrive for his interview I sat down and started to write down my own questions to add to the few I was given for each interview as I like to make interviews more interesting than just the basic questions everyone asks. Quickly I realised that I was doing that as a distraction because as soon as I stopped I got incredibly nervous and had to walk away from where we had set up to calm myself down and tell myself it's just like any other interview.
Fabio's POV
Being back to racing is great but I can't say I've missed the media side of things as that's always my least favourite part of a race weekend but it comes with the job. The first interviews of the season are usually the worst as no one really has anything to ask as we haven't been on track yet so usually questions are about testing or last season. When I first arrived to the track we had a team meeting to discuss the finalised spec of the bikes and just other general things but then it was time for my first interview so I headed there with the team media manager while looking at my phone to reply to some messages. While we walked I was given a briefing of the schedule for the day which was pretty packed but honestly it wasn't really any different to usual.
Finally we reached the media centre where I had my first interview and just as I was about to sit down I almost stopped dead in my track when I saw who was doing the interview. Ever since I joined motogp there has been this girl who is always at every race and usually she is there with all the rest of the journalists recording and writing notes on our briefings. To everyone else she is probably just a normal journalist but from the second I saw her I thought she was incredibly pretty and always loved to see her at the debriefs. When walking around the paddock I always smile at her when I see her but we haven't spoken because I haven't been brave enough to strike up a conversation. None of that matters now as I'll have to speak to her for this interview and who knows maybe that will make me actually talk to her more often.
Thinking about it more I don't know why she's doing this interview as normally she just writes about the sport which I know because I like to read whatever she puts out as it's actually interesting to read. As this is an interview for tv I'm quite surprised to see her as it's not something I ever expected her to do but I'm actually quite happy to see her as if this is something she's doing all season I think media is going to be a lot better. I also felt somewhat proud that after these last few years of just seeing her sit quietly and work hard on her skills that she got the recognition she deserved and is now working for a tv broadcaster.
As I sat down she looked very nervous as I could see her biting her lip and tapping her pen on the notebook she had in her hand but I was hoping I could make her feel less nervous once we got started. She offered me a smile as she handed me a microphone which I could tell wasn't on so I quickly turned it on so that she didn't get embarrassed about doing something wrong before we even started. Once we started rolling and got a few questions out the way she definitely settled down and started to have more fun with it by asking more interesting questions which I enjoyed as I know for the rest of the day I'll be asked the same question a million times. We definitely went over the scheduled time but it was well worth it as it's the best interview I've done in a long time. After we were done with the interview I was determined to actually talk to her so I went over to her before realising I didn't know what to say.
"Hey I just wanted to properly say hello as I've seen you around the last few years" I said
"Well hello I should probably introduce myself I'm y/n" she said
"Lovely to properly meet you y/n I'm Fabio but you already knew that" I joked
We talked for a bit longer and I learnt that she started all of this on a whim after turning 18 and has since made it a career which I thought was really impressive. She talked about her new position a bit and how now she'll be doing more interviews and some presenting so I should see even more of her than usual. With how tight our schedules are we didn't really get chance to talk about anything other than work but it gives me an excuse to talk to her again. I didn't even get chance to properly say goodbye to her as I was made to go to my next interview and she had to talk with one of the other presenters about something.
~~~~~~~~~~
After the first race I have seen so much more of y/n as she does all the interviews for the broadcaster she works for so I get to see her on media day and throughout the weekend. Doing those interviews has become my favourite parts of the day as she always has a smile on her face and always has something positive to say about the session even if it hasn't been the best for us which I like. I have also been trying to speak to her a bit outside of interviews which isn't always the easiest thing as we both have other things to do all the time but I try my best. Because I keep trying my best to speak to her I have learnt a bit more about her as a person like I know that she is a year younger than me and can speak bits of many different languages as she learnt them to speak to people around the paddock. She's just such a cool person and has so many stories to tell but you would never know as she just does her own thing and no one else cares enough to find out more.
As much as I enjoy when I have interviews with her and getting to talk to her a bit in between I would love to spend time with her outside of work when there isn't such strict schedules to stick to. This is why I've been trying to build up the courage to ask her to go for drinks or something after a race weekend but its not been going quite to plan. Every race weekend I tell myself that I'm just going to ask her as the worst that can happen is that she says no but I just can't make myself do it. However this weekend I have promised myself that I will do it and I have told Jake (Dixon) so he will hold me accountable no matter how nervous I get. I don't know why I'm so nervous about it as I've never been like that before but something about y/n just makes me nervous in general.
This weekend has been pretty chaotic as it is Le Mans which means I've had more interviews than usual so I haven't really had chance to speak to y/n but today after the race I'm determined to do it for myself and to avoid being ridiculed by my friends for backing out. Once the race was over my mind went straight to thinking about y/n like it usually does just this time I was worried about seeing her not excited. Through all of my other interviews I wasn't really paying attention as my one with y/n happened to be my last one which felt like the universe was trying to push me to ask her as well.
When I got there she was all smiles as usual but there was no time for us to even say hello before we had to start as we were both running late so we quickly got on with the interview. After we were done she began to pack up all of her things and thanked the camera crew as they were now done for the day while I let my media manager go so that I could be alone with y/n. As I stood there waiting I began to get incredibly nervous again but I knew I had to do it especially when I got a text from Jake telling me that if I don't do it he will do it himself which I definitely don't want. Once she was ready I made my way over to her and psyched myself up to ask her but before I could start the conversation she did.
"Hey there I feel like I've barely seen you this weekend how has your home race been?" She asked
"Its been amazing even if I would have liked to have won the atmosphere has been incredible it's so weird to see so many people cheering for you" I replied
"I could hear the crowd earlier and it was pretty loud from here so I can only imagine what its like actually out on track" she said
"Yeah it was really cool, I wanted to ask you if at some point you would want to go and get drinks or some food" I said
"I would love to when were you thinking?" She asked
"If you are free now I know somewhere quiet we can go" I said
"I'm free" she said
~~~~~~~~~~
We agreed for me to pick her up from her hotel at 6 which is why I'm currently sat outside waiting for her to come out the door. Since I asked her I've been a lot less nervous as I know we get along and there is a lot for us to talk about so it shouldn't be awkward at any point plus she agreed to come out with me so it's not like she doesn't want to be here. At exactly 6 o'clock because y/n is always on time she walked out of the hotel front door looking absolutely stunning. She wasn't wearing anything particularly fancy but her hair was down and looked incredible and she had taken her makeup off so you could see how naturally beautiful she was. Once I saw her I got out of my car and went around to open the passenger door for her which she thanked me for after she said hello and got in the car. When in the car we got straight to talking like we had been friends for years which made me feel a bit conflicted because as much as it's nice that we are so comfortable with each other I would love to be more than friends but I'm not sure if that's what she wants.
When we got to the little bar/restaurant I picked for us to go to we got given a table pretty quickly and then ordered our food and drinks before getting back to our conversation. Immediately we started joking and laughing with each other which had some people in the restaurant staring at us but neither of us cared as we were having fun. We told stories from our lives outside of the track the whole evening which was really nice as we haven't had too much chance to get to know more about each other's life. She kept saying that she hasn't lived the most interesting life but I loved every story that she told as I haven't lived a very normal life so it was interesting to hear what she had done with her life and family.
After we finished eating and had a few drinks I paid even though she wanted to split the bill and then we went for a little walk around the town as its a small place so not too many people should be around. As time went on it got colder outside which y/n clearly wasn't prepared for as I could see her getting a bit cold. We walked for a bit longer before I could see that she was really cold so I took my hoodie off and gave it to her which she refused at first but I made her put it on before we went any further. Eventually we made it back to the car and I drove her back to her hotel where we said goodbye to each other and said we would do this again at the next race which happens to be next weekend.
~~~~~~~~~~
It is Thursday again which means its media day but luckily I'm almost done for the day and next I have my interview with y/n. I haven't seen her since we went out together last Sunday so I can't wait to se her again and maybe properly agree to do that again. I was so in my head thinking about plans for this weekend that I didn't even realise that it wasn't y/n doing the interview it was one of her colleagues. It took me by surprise but I told myself that she must just have something else to do or maybe her flight got delayed both of which are very reasonable things but in the back of my mind I couldn't help but worry about her.
As the day went on I hadn't seen y/n around at all which wasn't how it normally is as usually we run into each other all the time and because I hadn't seen her my mind has been running wild with a million things that could of happened some of which I know are ridiculous but I can't help but worry about her. Typically we have never exchanged phone numbers as most of the time we only talk in the paddock so I can't just text her to make sure she's ok. I tried to just ignore it as its only one weekend but it was bugging me too much so I decided to find one of her colleagues to see if they had her number as they know we get along so they should be ok with giving me her number.
I found one of her colleagues quite quickly and they were happy to give me her number and didn't even ask why which was great as I didn't want to admit that it's because I like her so much that her missing a race weekend has me worried. Once I got out of the conversation I went straight back to my motorhome and typed the number in and clicking the call button. Straight away I kind of regretted it as if she answers and has some good reason for not being here she's going to think that I'm weird for calling her and being so worried. I was beginning to hope that she wouldn't answer which is quite likely as to her it will just be a random phone number. With each ring it was looking less like she was going to answer but just as I thought the universe had saved me from embarrassment the ringing stopped and I heard her voice come through my phone.
"Hello, who is this?" She asked
"Hey y/n its me Fabio I'm really sorry for calling you but you weren't at the track and I wanted to make sure everything was alright" I kind of rambled to try and make myself look less weird
"Oh hi everything is fine I just caught an awful sickness from my nephew when I went to help my sister out and they told me not to come to this weekends race even though I wanted to" she explained
"That sounds awful I hope you feel better soon" I said sympathetically
"Thank you but I have to ask who did you get my number from and why did you phone?" She asked
Those were the exact questions I didn't really want her to ask as I know I'm going to have to tell the truth which could be awkward.
"I got your number off your colleague and I phoned as I was worried about you I mean you are always here and when you weren't I couldn't stop worrying about if you were ok" I said
"Why were you so worried?" She probed
"I'm just going to admit it as it will make things easier I really like you y/n and as more than a friend which is why you are always on my mind and why I was so worried when I didn't see you today as I just want to know that you are ok and happy" I admitted
"Well I like you too" she said
"Oh thank god I was worried I would ruin a good friendship how about we go on a proper date once you feel better" I suggested
"I would love that I'll text you now that I have your number" she laughed
With that I ended the call with the biggest smile on my face. It probably would have taken me months to actually ask her on a date if this hadn't happened so I guess her being sick has a good side to it.

Hello, CalmWriMo 26
Today was a very good day. You know why? I rediscovered walking around but inside. I took like a 30 minute walk but in figure eights in my house and it was very good for my writing brain. What did I proceed to do? I drafted 3 whole different scenes!
See, it's almost like taking walks for my mental health is REALLY GOOD FOR ME or something!
New goal dropped for December -- daily walks inside my house 😍
Also also, I got to play Shadowrun for the first time with my friends! I'm Cat with a Q (Qat) and my pet is Cat with a Ch.
"So... Chat?"
"No, Cacht. The CH is silent."
The joke works better in audio. 💀💀💀
https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/1272810/complete?cd=xsFqqefQ9U
Tumblr media
Anyway, Qat is neurodivergent and a minor (except she isn't a minor lol). She's also an invisible Aspected Wizard with a pet cat, who was blessed by her spirit guide, and she lives in your walls. She's homeless. Her quest is for ramen with hot water.
ALSO ALSO -- I got sucked into Neocities today, on account of a post in my ridiculously long backlogged queue. But as I looked into it more, people are scared it might die soon cuz it's run by one guy?! Why do I always get into things when they're dying? Tiktok was the only thing I joined even VAGUELY early!? It's not fair! But sites on Neocities are SO COOL and I'm very seriously considering moving the entirity of the Yssaia site AGAIN lololol. But I had a complaint the Wix Blog and my Wix Site lowered its storage cap on me this last year so it isn't even EZ to read on or host images so... Hence why I'm very tempted to just scrap the whole thing and find somewhere else...
*ahem* Writing snippet! Right! Listen, the "journaling but on Tumblr" thing is going shockingly well. I don't censor myself -- the plan was just to cut anything I didn't want to post. But I haven't had any ultra-personal additions to add lately. So now I just ramble here lol. (Maybe I'm too open of a person?)
This snippet is between Lucienne and Nesa -- both gaslight/gatekeep/girlboss girlies dating Arlasaire, except Lucienne has generational trauma and Nesa does not. They are notably the same age, but Nesa has decided on the tactic of pretending Luce is a fantasy kindergartener
Lu: …Who are you? Ne: Nesa Kanespari — Second only to the Inquisitor General of the Ecclesia. And you are being a very bad girl, aren’t you? I don’t know how you do things in the North, but here in the South, we don’t hit people when we’re mad. Lu: “People.” She doesn’t even have a sash. Ne: Ah, so are you the type of little girl who kicks streetcats because she doesn’t have power over anything else? Lu: I’m not a child. Ne: Really? Because you’re acting like one. Apologize to Arlasaire. Ar: Nesa, it’s fine— Ne: No, it isn’t. Apologize. Lu: Why should I? Ne: “Why?” Well, for one, she could break you you over her knee, if she wanted. She won’t, because she likes you, but she could. But here’s the catch, Miss Lucienne, pay attention: She may not ever hurt you — but I have no qualms doing so.
I saw this Tiktok where a lady pretended to talk to Extended Family at Thanksgiving and told them to "Mind their bodies" and "Catch a bubble" and "Think silently, in your own head". And it was hilarious. I loved it. So Nesa is stealing this tactic -- but I did imagine an alt scene where Nesa is full-aggro, mama-bear for Arlasaire. But I think that might be too much for what is functionally a Charisma-based character lol.
Okay, thanks for the good talk! Take care of yourself in this final stretch of Nano/CalmWriMo!

TESTING OUT THE QUOTE REPLY THINGY? Very long after the post that inspired said replies, but what-the-fuck-ever:
@theladyw replied to your post “I have 314 things in my q  it is dumb how happy...”:
Pi
 🥧! I have turned into a failure of a nerd, I didn’t even notice that, I’m just still thrilled I can go over 300 now, after getting into some very bad drafting habits from getting stuck at 299 a few too many times 🤣
@oranges8hands replied to your post “so staff is working on POLLS which will be great...”:
#6 could be fun but true vote is mermay fic (assuming this is referring to the malec fic - or even better the follow-up to the AU mermay fic cause that thing lives in my head rent free) or sh wip - like another chapter of "if broken hearts were whole" or if you were still doing a sequel to "with an if in its soul".
I mean. IN THEORY ALL THOSE THINGS WILL HAPPEN SOME DAY?
I don’t usually actually totally abandon the WIPs. I have only done so twice in a dozen years? That’s not bad odds, tbqh. Now, has it been longer than usual without managing forward progress on quite so many of them? Perhaps....
*sighs forever*
@jadesabre301 replied to your post “so staff is working on POLLS which will be great...”:
considering I just wrote a nearly 6K summary of a fic I'm not going to write, I'm a big fan of the not!fic collection idea.  But also you should probably work on the thing where snippets are due soon.
Not!Fic is fun! (I have like 10k of journal entries for Ella Shepard that aren’t fic but are good background references, yk?)
& I did not do the thing, and continue to be snippet-less past the deadline. No art for jilly. (But a belated thank you for the pragmatic advice? 😅😅😅😅)
@leahazel replied to your post “so staff is working on POLLS which will be great...”:
I should do a poll like this but for all the unfinished scenes in one WIP.
On the one hand, YES! otoh, my polls have not actually been helping me do anything lately, so uh? YMMV?!?! *snerk*
@servantofclio replied to your post “so staff is working on POLLS which will be great...”:
I admit Downworld for Dummies sounds hilarious to me
I mean. I find it hilarious, that’s why I started writing it? But then it needed more effort and I went *thbbbbbbbt* because my brain is mushy.
@thedivinemissema replied to your post “so staff is working on POLLS which will be great...”:
4 sounds good to me!
WELL IT SOUNDS GOOD TO ME TOO BUT I KEEP NOT WRITING IT?
I should yell about it on a 7kpp server or something, see if that helps me get back into it 🤞🤞🤞 (I just realized  I don’t think we share any discord servers, wtf? How did that happen? Or not happen. Also I have too many that I never check in on, I should do some pruning.)

I’ve stormed my profiles with reblogs/ rts recently.. sorry you have to see the same posts twice, thrice.. (does the list go on?) HNK is getting back so that’s some great news (and a good excuse to update my posts and fill my profile with HNK art hehe!!~)
Extended update on everything of relevance:
☆ Commissions are closed. Thank you everyone!!
I'm thinking of working on a small post that will have a type open to anyone interested, in batches. Until I manage to cover for my essentials and find another source of income, I have to depend on these a little longer q v q
★ Physiotherapy is going fine, but I still need time. I'm saddened by the idea that I have to stop txting for a while, I notice the inflammation that occurs when I spend long-sessions chatting online and I have to refrain form doing so. I’d say for an unspecified amount of time, but in the back of my head I am thinking of using summer as an excuse to unplug and focus on getting better and gathering my thoughts*.
Rehabilitation takes time and I should be granting it properly.
(I read what I write and it sounds as if I am isolating.. it’s not far from this, but I just will be way slower and just have once a week where I’ll respond to MSG’s if I can using the voice-to-text function. Ahh,, that’s such a pain.. especially since I use my keyboard to log so many things/thoughts/notes/literallyeverything TT_TT)
*A lot have occurred since I started sharing again with a bang, more than usual, due to the emergency hat occurred recently.. there are things I need to unpack and digest.. {{in a nutshell: I am feeling more content keeping my art for myself than sharing it online. This has been growing with time, I think I don’t like that I’m only making a certain type of posts-- promoting work, rather than have a playground and a safe-space for sharing anything really. I wish I could go back on twitter and post a photo of the carrot-soup attempt I made yesterday without regrets or anxiety u . u. or even here haha, as i’ve already claimed this account to be an open-journal to the extend I wish it to be. I guess I’ve channeled most of it now in video-format- but that’s a hell of a lot of work for later..}}
My goals are to minimise everything down to 2-week break periods so i won’t completely cut off until the time I’ll have to (usually that has been happening during August but I have no idea where I’ll be this time around) to accommodate my health. I am tired of feeling swelling and pain ; ; This might sound overdramatic but I have forgotten how it feels like doing things without physical discomfort. The doctor’s haven’t said anything extreme about my case, but sometimes I can’t help but feel despair.
Sorry this got a little dark towards the end, I’ll do all I can to get better. There are so many things i want to draw, I feel so passionate about them, so happy, yet there’s a limit I’ll have to respect and find ways to work with.. getting even slower..
🎶Thank you for reading. I hope the rest of May goes well for you, and looking forward to an easy-going summer <3
