QL Wrapped 2023
i was tagged by @nongnaos and @ranchthoughts thank youuu <333
i meant to upload this at the latest by december 31st, but the thing is when i saw the tag i was a little overwhelmed at first bc i didn't know how to fill it out and then once i had it all written out i had a super hard time deciding on what to gif and then it all ended up taking soooo much longer than planned. and now it's already 2024. oops. well, better late then never...
so without further ado:
You watched 12 QLs this year that's about 264 hours!
(i'm counting only qls that started airing 2023 bc i didn't keep track of every single show that i watched and it's a lot easier to count all the 2023 dramas on mdl lmao)
You primarily only watched QLs from Thailand
i blame my bachelor thesis for this which i was writing on the translation strategies of thai to eng and also the fact that i'm learning thai, so any time i watch a series i'm like "do i watch something from a country other than thailand tonight??" only for a little voice in my head to go "yeah but you COULD be spending your evening practicing thai listening skills" so yeah...
You spent way too much time thinking about these characters: Pat Napat Jindapat
Tumblr media
listen. LISTEN. i know ok, i know bad buddy is from 2021 not from 2023. however!!!!! bad buddy was part of our skyy 2 and that included my boy pat and so i'm counting it!!!! i'm always thinking about pat napat jindapat ok bye
Tumblr media
no for real tho. i am NOT kidding when i say i have spent hours on end thinking about pat in the year of our lord 2023, two full years after the show dropped:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
maybe in 2024 i'll finally sit down and write that meta that's been in my head for two years now
Your favorite show was Moonlight Chicken
Tumblr media
it's gotta be the chicken show for me. yeah. it just felt so... idk, real in a way. idk how to explain it. i'm not even obsessing over mlc all that much but any time it pops into my head i go all kinds of 😭😭😭 and 🥰🥰🥰
not to mention the firstmix
Tumblr media
the heartliming
Tumblr media
and most importantly earth and fourth as an uncle/nephew duo??
Tumblr media
i am so🥺🥺🥺
special shoutout also to jimbo the cat (left) who looks almost exactly like coco, my family's cat (right):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another one of your favorites was Last Twilight
Tumblr media
just. the way p'aof shows relationships on screen okay. yeah.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i cry
You are still stuck in this hallway:
Tumblr media
yeah i've been thinking about the yank-kiss-yeet scene from hidden agenda and joke breaking down afterwards in that very hallway for 19 weeks straight gay. bye.
The soundtracks you listened to the most were:
(according to my spotify wrapped top 5)
Just Friend? (Bad Buddy)
Our Song (Bad Buddy)
น้ำลาย (My School President Cover)
Secret (Bad Buddy)
yeah. i've given up on the "only 2023 media" thing. if we're talking songs only from series released in 2023 then i've got love love love (our skyy 2) on no. 32 and no more empty nights (our skyy 2) on no. 46 on my spotify wrapped
also if you're wondering what the 5th song (on no.3 in reality) from my top 5 was that's missing above where i only mentioned four songs, well, it's none other than tilly birds' same page? which yeah. is also bad buddy related. surprise surprise 🤭
Your overall bl mood was P'Aof
You created 15 gifsets (of which "only" 1/3 were about making other shows about bad buddy)
you can find them here
You shazammed 295 royalty free background music pieces/songs from thai dramas
fun fact: i haven't mentioned this publically yet but since thai dramas keep using the same music over and over again in various series i've actually started collecting the different songs/pieces and i'm planning on making a side blog about it. i just want to go through some more dramas first before i publish anything. so this is something you can look forward to in 2024 dkjfkfdj
currently shazamming my way through bad buddy (you may have seen my blorbo breakdown about pran in the ep4 sleepover scene the other week that was triggered by me shazamming all of ep4). next on the list: theory of love and the eclipse. it takes ages tho, so don't expect it any time soon
Your favorite acting pair was JoongDunk
(is anyone even surprised by this lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
no but for real whatever these two have going on, i'm intrigued:
Tumblr media
i just. i love their energy ok. they're fun. and they're clearly having fun
i couldn't decide on what to gif so here's a little compilation bc fuck it, this is my post and i get to do whatever the fuck i want
(actually there's more that i could have put in there but i didn't wanna waste any more time with posting this tag game and also i was trying to keep the compilation somewhat short lmao)
they are such silly little idiot boys ("little" says the 155cm tall short person about the 180+cm giants 🤭) and i adore them <3
their energy is essentially this meme and i'm so here for it:
Tumblr media
and they just communicate so well when they're performing and you never feel like either of them is "alone" on stage (doing his own thing in his own little bubble), it's SUCH a joy to watch!!!! once again plugging two of my all time fave performances that i've been rewatching over and over again for the last 3 months:
youtube
youtube
also dunk is just SO little brother-shaped to me idek!! looking at his face just makes me go into big sister mode. it doesn't help that he's only like a month or so older than my actual little brother. AND he reminds me a lot of one of my fave kids from my youth group that i used to go to for years. dunk natachai has klein-andi energy and you all don't know what that means but i know what that means as does my mom and she agrees. so.
tagging:
i feel so ashamed for not making it in time before 2023 ended so i'm not gonna tag anyone but if you see this and you really wanna do it bc you haven't done it yet then please do so and tag me because i say so!!
and mutuals, send me yours bc i'm not sure i saw everyone else's!!!! (@celestial-sapphicss @moonkhao @visualtaehyun @telomeke @waitmyturtles @dribs-and-drabbles did you guys do this already and if yes, send me yours? i must have missed it 🥺🥺🥺)

Chaotic As The Seas (1/?)
Pairing: Jack Sparrow x Female!Reader
Word Count: 2.1k
Warning: mild swearing
Part Summary: Elizabeth has been taken by Blackbeard. Jack and Will must hurry and find Y/N, she's the only one who can help.

Tumblr media
Jack
So, Blackbeard takes Elizabeth and once again we're playing safe the poor maiden. If I get stuck babysitting Will Turner one more time and being required to save Elizabeth, I might sink myself to the bottom of the ocean. I don't even get compensation or a lover after the end of these charades. I could still work on Elizabeth, though she's pretty mad about Will. Nonetheless, I still have a shot at her.
"How are we supposed to find the Fountain of Youth? It's the stuff of legend!" Will shouts, following me about the Black Pearl.
I sigh, coming to the conclusion I knew would be an inevitability. I just wish it wasn't. “If we’re going to save your precious Elizabeth, there’s someone we have to see. She’s the only one who knows this sort of magic and the only one who’s ever seen the fountain.”
“She?”
“Yes, she. The first part is the hardest, finding where she is." Y/N is never in the same place more than once it feels. "I have a hunch but, she’s not exactly the sort that stays still for long.”
“Is she a witch or something?” Will predicts.
“She prefers Healer.” I correct. "'Witch' is a touchy word in some parts."
“Right...” Will drags out, not believing in any of the folklore, despite the whole Barbosa-ghosty situation.
Will
While Jack redirects the Pearl, keeping a close eye on the compass in hand, I slide over to Mr. Gibbs close by.
“Who’s this we're going to find?” I ask him.
“Y/N,” the man answers in not so quiet of a whisper.
“How did they meet?”
“We stopped in Ireland once for supplies. That’s where she’s from, Cork, if we’re getting specific. She was running from some soldiers.”
“She’s a pirate too?” I question.
“No, well... only when she’s with Jack. She was running because she was accused to witchcraft!” The answer wide eyed to spook me. “The Irish take that very seriously.”
I shrug. “He’s never mentioned her.”
“Maybe, but you know that ring that Jack wears around his neck?" He points thin and worn rope hanging from Jack and a gold ring around it. "That’s her’s.”
I gasp. “They were married!"
“Engaged,” Mr. Gibbs corrects. "Many many years ago.”
“What happened?”
“Better question, what didn’t happen.” The man insinuates.
So, to save Elizabeth and find the Fountain of Youth we have to go find a Healer who was also Jack's former lover? And we don't know where she is. Sound simple enough...
———————-
A few weeks later...
Y/N
"Two drops of this and he'll love you," I tell the young girl as I hand her a vile of my herbal mix. "Mix it in with some tea or liquor."
She thanks me profusely and rises from her seat across from me. I pick up my tarot cards, shuffling them decently before I let in the next customer. The tavern's noise breakthrough the velvet curtain that divides my table from the rest of the chaos.
I spin in my chair, reaching for the whiskey I keep by the fireplace behind me. "Who's next!" I shout. I hear the curtain slide back soon after.
“My beautiful rose."
An all too familiar voice purrs behind me. That nickname, that nickname is the very reason I have a branding on my shoulder! Only one person has ever called me that.
“How is it you ended up in Martinque?” The voice asks.
I whip my head around and am met with a certain pirate from my past. A past I wish to forget. My heart sinks at the mere sight of him. One part of me is over the moon. The other is screaming to run.
“Uh uh! Not happening!” I refuse, rising from my chair.
“Love!” Jack pleads, reaching for me.
“Get away from me, Jack!” I hold up a hand to his face and walk by to enter the rest of the tavern.
He follows after me. “Two seconds of your time!”
“Ha! That’s what you said last time and somehow I ended up in Bermuda for six months!” I laugh, slipping past a group of men that watch us. I assume they're with him. I recognize Mr. Gibbs.
“Don’t act like you didn’t have fun.” He smirks.
I halt, spinning on my heels to face him. He nearly bumps into me.
“We lived in a barn!” I remind.
“You made it a lovely home.” Such a kiss ass.
“You kept me from the sea! All because you had to hide from the East Indian Company and Beckett!” I scoff, turning to continue toward the exit.
“Would you rather I had been arrested?” He smirks.
“Yes.” I laugh, finally reaching the door. "And that's exactly what happened!"
“Your one true love?” Jack questions cockily.
I halt in the doorway, gripping the frame. I can feel Jack step closer, hovering over me. I glance over my shoulder back at him. He stands mere inches from me. I meet his dark eyes with a hint of sorrow. “Come now, Jack... we both know neither of us believes in that sort of stuff...”
He steps into the doorway, closing the space between us. His hand glides down my bare arm and lands on my waist. “I do... when I think of you...”
I nod as my eyes flicker about his face. He looks the same, just a bit more aged. He's been through a lot these last few years I suspect. My hand rises to his cheek gently.
He leans into my touch as his eyes fall shut. “I’ve missed you.” He whispers.
“That’s your problem. You’re too sentimental.” I snicker, dropping my hand to my side. “Now, what is it you want so bad that you’ve hunted me down?”
Jack's eyes fly open, the sentimental moment gone. “Oh! The... uh... The fountain! Yes! That's it! We need your expertise.”
“Ha! Not happening." I shake my head, stepping out of the tavern onto the street.
“My love, please! Just listen-“
I whip around, causing Jack to nearly run into me. "No! I swore to myself that I’d never go back there and I swore to never tell another soul how to find it! It’s a vile place and fills even the most noble of men with greed!”
“But-”
“It’s too dangerous!” I argue. “If it falls into the wrong hands-”
“I won’t let that happen! You can come with us! It’ll just be you, me, and my crew. Only a few of us will go to shore.”
My eyes narrow. “Why do you need it?”
A young man runs up from behind Jack. “They took Elizabeth believing Jack knew the way! They’ll kill her in 3 days if we don’t take him to the fountain!”
I press my fingers to my temples with a sigh. “Who are you? Who’s he? Who’s Elizabeth?”
“Elizabeth is his fiancé of sorts if you will. ‘He’ meaning our ole friend Blackbeard and this is here Will Turner," Jack explains quickly, patting the boy on the back..
“Blackbeard!” I laugh, looking at Jack with raised brows. "You're in trouble with Eddie?"
Will whispers to Jack. “Eddie?”
“You all are mad!" I determine. "To give the most dangerous pirate in the seas access to everlasting life?”
“Okay, ‘most dangerous’ is a bit excessive,” Jack debates. “We’ll figure out a plan! We just need to get to the island soon!” He reasons.
I cross my arms over my chest. “What’s in it for me?”
“A lovely trip." He glides closer to me. When I don't budge, he offers more. “Ten sterling?”
I shake my head. “Goodbye Jack, I wish I could say it was a pleasure.” I turn to head home.
Jack Sparrow can't help but constantly be in a bind. He's always in some sort of trouble. I can't believe I followed him around the world as long as I did.
“I know where it is!" He shouts.
I pause. That's impossible. He's lying.
He continues. His boots tapping against the brick path toward me slowly. “There are rumors of its location. Some say the Caribbean, others say the far northern islands of the colonies. In a few months time, we could be there.”
I glance over my shoulder. “You’re lying.”
The pirate smirks. “Cross my heart." He stops in front of me. "Show me the way to the fountain and I’ll take you to the northern islands.”
"I can't believe I'm about to do this." I'm reluctant, but if he's telling the truth this may be my only chance. I huff. “I despise you, Jack Sparrow.”
He caresses my cheek with a grin. “You used to love me.”
"We were just kids then..." I mutter.
He nods, his eyes falling to my lips.
We were just stupid, naive kids. Sailing the world together as if we owned it. We didn't work for a reason.
Will
I watch as Jack convinces Y/N to join us. Those two have to be the most chaotic pair I've ever witnessed and I've just met her. Yet, Jack is different with her. Never in a million years would I have guessed Jack has a soft side.
“What’s it?” I ask Mr. Gibbs when he appears beside me.
The man sighs. “Jack never said. Y/N is very secretive, so Jack swore never to tell. All I know is that Y/N wants it more than anything. So much so that she bartered that compass from Tia Dalma."
My jaw drops. "Compass is her's?"
Mr. Gibbs nods. "And Jack has been holding onto it ever since they parted. It was always meant to lead Jack back to her. That's why you see him shake it so much whenever he's searching for something else."
"He's trying to redirect it," I conclude. "Is that how we found her so easily."
He hums. "No matter how hard Jack tries. She'll always be what he wants most. The tough reality for him is that whenever Y/N holds the compass, it always points elsewhere. That's why he's so determined to find whatever it is for her. He's holding onto hope that one day when she holds the compass, it'll point to him."
I nod, understanding as I go. "He loves her more."
"Always has, always will."
I never knew Jack could love someone.
____________________
Jack
I lean against the stairs, waiting for Y/N to emerge from my office. She went through some of Elizabeth's things to find something more sensible to wear. Her skirt and corset wouldn't exactly suffice at sea. It's been years since we're sailed together. It's been years since she was a pirate.
Soon, she emerges, finishing up buckling her belt. Her long (Y/H/C) rests over her shoulders in loose waves. I notice she's wearing my shirt. It's too big and hangs off her shoulders, Elizabeth's leather bodice from Singapore keeping it up. She used to borrow them all the time. I hadn't realized how much I've missed seeing her in my clothes.
“I would’ve helped you change,” I comment as she passes by.
She glares at me. “Oh save it.”
I follow after her. “Have you missed the Pearl?”
“I missed sailing.” She grumbles.
Why must she be like this? So, we ended on bad terms, but that was ages ago! It's not like I cheated, I simply... well... may have left her by accident somewhere BUT IT WAS THE EAST INDIAN COMPANY’S FAULT! It's not my fault I got arrested at a very inopportune time!
I admire as Y/N stops at the railing, staring ahead at the horizon.
I slide up next to her, placing my hand over her's. “The sea can be a real lonesome place...”
Her beautiful (Y/E/C) eyes meet mine. I've missed them more than I can confess. Sometimes I dream about them.
“Touch me one more time Jack and you’ll lose that hand.” She remarks.
I lean forward. “I love it when you talk dirty to me.”
She scoffs, rolling her eyes. She begins to walk away and I follow suit.
“So! What have you been doing these last few years?”
“Seriously...” she laughs, giving me a knowing look. She rolls her eyes again, marching up the stairs toward the wheel. “I’ve been traveling, collecting materials- crystals- some are hard to come by. You can thank Beckett for that, that short ass-kabob. I’ve also been searching for information of you-know-what. Apparently, I wasn’t looking in the right places.” She stops on the steps, spinning to face me. She towers over me. This is new, usually, it's the other way around. “How did you find it?”
“I didn’t. I’ve heard rumors of its location.” I confess.
“That’s more than I have and I've been searching for it all my life." She frowns. I hate seeing her disappointed. She spins around, strolling onto the top deck. "Hi," she greets Mr. Gibbs with a warm smile. Why is she nice to him but bitter to me?
"Looking mighty fine, Y/N," the man compliments. He earns a glare from me.
“Look at us, working together," I place my arm around her waist. "You guide me to the fountain, save poor William’s girl. Then, I’ll take you to the colonies, give you what you most desire...”
“You speak in riddles. We’re not even certain it’s there.” She shoves my arm off of her and moves to stand by the railing.
Mr. Gibbs gives me a look. Silently begging for me to leave her alone. I can't! I just can't! Now that I have her here again, I have to be near her.
I stand next to her. “Half the fun is the journey. Don’t you miss sailing together? Seeing the world?” I gesture out to the horizon.
“Getting arrested every other week. Always on the run." Her eyes meet mine, still filled with disappointment. "I’m not a pirate, Jack.”
“No, you’re a Healer who fell in love with one," I counter. “We’re opposites if you think about it. You use materials to help or curse people, mainly to make things right. I sail the seas, taking what I can no matter who it hurts.” I place my arm around her again slyly. When she doesn't immediately disappear from me, an ounce of hope weighs down in my chest. “I always knew you were too good for me,” I confess.
Her eyes fall from my eyes to my lips. “Apparently not if I fell in love with you.”
“So you admit it? You love me.” I grin, comprehending how close we are and I debate if I should kiss her.
“I did. Once." She swallows hard.
“And now?”
She directs her attention away, toward the water and steps out of my hold. “I’m waiting for the colonies.”

It’s You
Pairing: Wanda x Fem Reader
Warning: Language, some fluff and angst, sexual suggestion.
Summary: Y/n thinks she has met the one until she joins the Avengers..
Word Count: 6.8K
Part 1, Part 2
Before being an Avenger, you were practically nothing but some part time vigilante whilst working full time to earn enough that would last you a whole week, you saved a few people from robbers and muggings which made you feel a little bit better about yourself, I mean not that you ever doubted yourself but knowing that you could help others whilst never having that protection during your youth times was rewarding in a way.
That’s how you have met your girlfriend, you saved her from couple of guys trying to rob her when she was working, it was also the time you discovered you had powers, you are able to control peoples minds and rewind time just enough to avoid any injuries.
It feels like it happened yesterday, you went to buy yourself a coffee from a new café that just opened up recently when suddenly there was a gun shot and a lot of screams along with some shouting telling people to get on the ground, you did that and watched the whole event unfold before your eyes.
At first it was them waving their weapons to scare people around them and demand money but as soon as they got what they wanted, they planned to at least kill someone and that was the girl behind the counter, who was scared shitless, she tried not to show it but when he pointed his gun at her and had the most disturbing smirk across his face, how could she not be, he pulled the trigger and you jumped out reaching out to the girl when everything stopped and time went back that’s when you ended up in the same place couple minutes before the men arrive.
You looked around to see if you were dreaming but before you could practically be amazed at your new ability, you jumped into action, running to the front door as the girl behind the counter looked at you funny, trying to stop you but you didn’t listen. You held the door and told her to call the police, you saw those men standing outside looking at you as they pointed a gun at you, you knew they would shoot so you ducked but held the door like your life depended on it.
For your luck the girl called the police and just when you were about to let go of the door and have them shoot you right there and then, the police surrounded all of the men with guns in their hands and with a huge sigh you let go of the door and fell back onto the floor to rest.
They were arrested and after giving your statement to the police, of course you had to lie mostly about how you knew it was going to happen, you said you had a bad feeling and figured something would happen, they were just happy they didn’t have any runners to extend their time on a case that would end up being forgotten.
The girl approached you with a small smile across her face “Hey.. I just wanted to thank you for doing that.. You saved not only me but a lot of people inside too.”
You smiled at her “It’s really not a problem, I’m just glad no one was hurt”
You reached your hand towards her “I’m Y/n” she shook your hand and replied “Olivia”
And that’s how it all started, you came by the café more often just to see her and she was happy to see you either way, she knew your order by heart and always had it ready for you. She liked your company so you stayed until you finished your coffee and was on your way, you gathered the courage and finally asked her out which she eagerly agree to. The first date wasn’t fancy but it was perfect, it was short which wasn’t a big deal and following that you had a few more dates before starting dating, eventually couple years in things started to be more than good, that’s when you decided you wanted to move in with her.
It was all perfect, you felt like nothing could go wrong but that was until you was caught trying to do your part time vigilante work by Iron Man, he dragged you to the Avenger tower to Nick Fury and he offered you a place within the team as he saw potential within you. You was taken back but agreed to join, you rushed back home as you weren’t needed until the team was back since they went off on a mission, and waited for your girlfriend to get back from work, she was an assistant for some big company so she was mostly busy but she always loved listening to your day to take the stress off her mind.
Even though you wanted to tell her everything, she didn’t know you was the vigilante, she knew you helped people out with your powers but you knew her opinion on hero'svigilantes, she hated it but was grateful for them as she felt safer within the city. You knew her intentions were pure but you had a different opinion.
You waited anxiously for her on the couch, bouncing your leg up and down from the nerves, you know her reaction will be something you wont like but this is huge for you. You will finally be able to help without hiding behind the whole vigilante ‘Time Breaker’ nickname the public made for you.
As soon as she walked in, she noticed your anxiousness “What’s wrong” She looked worried but you jumped up with a smile.
“I have news” Joy was practically dripping from you.
“I’m going to be on the team with the Avengers” You exclaimed with so much joy in your tone that you thought this somehow will make her be happy for you.
She dropped her bags and her face wasn’t like yours but with shock “What?”
“Well I helped someone out and Tony Stark caught me and dragged me to the Avenger tower and then I was offered a place in the team and I just took it”
“What?” She repeated herself as if you wasn’t talking in a language she would understand.
You looked at her confused and she finally spoke up from her shock state “You didn’t even think about considering this? You just took it without even consulting with me?”
You wanted to look confuse at her but you knew this would be her reaction “Olivia, come on you know how huge this will be-”
She interrupted you “You should’ve spoke to me about it as well.. We are a couple after all”
She took her bag and walked off towards your room as she closed the door behind her, usually when you have arguments you try to just listen each other out but when she shut the door you knew she didn’t want to listen to you so you just took your keys and walked out to give her some time to think about it and you made your way towards the tower again to meet the whole team.
The whole team was actually very welcoming when they heard about you joining, they all said that they have been watching you do your vigilante work and they were all pretty impressed. They gave me a room which you said you wont need but apparently its for long missions where you would have to be here for.
Everyone was excited to have a new member on their team and they all tried to show off their skills and abilities except this one redhead. You spoke with everyone and they all were chatting amongst each other so you took the opportunity to walk up to the redhead that was not far from yous.
She was sat at the bar, just paying attention to her drink, not really expecting anyone to approach her “Hello” you spoke up which made her jump a little.
She faced you and looked at the group of people who were just having usual banter “Shouldn’t you be over there with them?”
You leaned on the bar as you observed her “Probably but they are too busy with each other to even notice I am here”
She had a small smile across her lips as she traced the edge of the glass with her finger “Why are you here?”
“Well you are the only one who didn’t show what you can do”
She laughed “If I did that, I’m pretty sure the whole room would be upside down”
Something about this girl made you want to stick around, she was interesting and closed off a little which you didn’t mind. She was insanely beautiful and she was around your age which made you feel a little bit at ease to know that you aren’t the only young person there.
The only reason you didn’t know her was because she was new as well, she recently joined as well and felt a little bit left out as everyone in here already knew each other well enough to feel comfortable around them.
An idea popped in your head as you smiled “Pick a person and I will show you something”
She narrowed her eyes as she tried to figure out what you are trying to do “Okay? Steve Rogers”
You looked at him and called out “Steve!” His attention was now on you and you spoke up again “Do a chicken dance”
He looked confused and refused to do that, which you just shrugged your shoulders at and closed your eyes when you opened them they turned white and his too and suddenly he was dancing just like you wanted. The redhead had a smile across her face as she was amazed to what you could do, and so was everyone else in the room. You broke the trance and Steve stood there completely clueless as everyone around him laughed.
You looked at her “Okay now it’s your turn”
She just smirked as she blurted out couple seconds in “Bruce is disappointed as he wanted someone to join them with the same level of knowledge as him so he can have a partner”
You narrowed your eyes at her “How do I know you’re not making that up?”
She turned towards the group and spoke up “Bruce I can’t believe you are disappointed in our recent recruitment”
He looked so shocked “How did you- Get out of my head!” and you both just laughed.
“I’m Y/n Y/l/n” You reached your hand towards her so she could shake it.
“Wanda Maximoff” She shook your hand with a small smile.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Couple hours later
You came back home, it was late and you expected Olivia to be fast asleep but your unresolved argument kept her up. You walked through the door and that’s when Olivia came out from the bedroom worried about you.
“Y/n?” She called out as you walked further into the house and saw her with something in hand.
“Olivia? What are you doing?” You eyed the weapon she had in hand and she sighed with relief.
She shook her head “I didn’t think you would come back today so I thought someone was breaking in”
You knew she still had some PTSD from that café incident so you didn’t think much of it “Of course I was going to come back home.. Why are you up?”
You placed your keys down in your usual spot and walked over to her after she placed the object down near her “I couldn’t sleep”
You reached for her hand and held it tight “It’s okay, I’m here, just let me go toilet and we can just lay in bed until you fall asleep”
Even if you were upset with how she reacted, you loved her and wanted her to feel safe.
She nodded and you did just that, you went toilet and then you both laid in bed after you changed into something more comfortable to sleep in, she was laying on your chest cuddled tightly into your body as if you was going to disappear.
She looked up at you, you could see in her eyes something was eating her inside out “What’s wrong?”
She sighed and sat up, you mimicked her actions and turned on the little night lamp you had so you could see better “I wanted to talk about the disagreement we had earlier”
You nodded and she continued “I know my reaction to what you told me was upsetting but you know how worried I am already when you put your life at risk helping people out a little, I just don’t want to lose you”
She cupped your face with both of her hands “I love you and I don’t want you to think I won’t support you but I’m just worried”
“I know and I’m sorry I didn’t ask for time and told you about it before taking the place. I was just so excited I just don’t want to hide” You played with your ring on your thumb to calm your nerves down.
“I know and now, you can finally be more than just the ‘Time Breaker’ vigilante”
You looked up at her from your hands and she had a small smirk across her face “You knew?”
She nodded “Of course, I knew you would never pass the chance to do anything that could save peoples lives and just so you know I am proud of you”
You hugged her as she giggled from the sudden attack, she hugged you back and you both fell back to your original position and fell asleep couple minutes after.

3 months later
During this time, you and your girlfriend were on good terms but with missions getting in the way you never had time for each other, even if she said she was proud of you for doing what you always wanted, you knew she is still upset about it which caused some arguments and you would usually just spend your days in your room at the Avenger tower watching anything to take your mind off Olivia.
Today was one of those days, you wanted to spend your 4 year anniversary with her before you had to travel to the compound for the mission but she had other plans for that day with her friends so you ended up walking out whilst she was getting dressed and ended up here.
Did she bother to call you? No, were you waiting for her to? Yes, you wanted her to say she’s sorry and that she actually had something planned for you but she was actually at a party because you saw her friends posting stuff on their social media.
You held the phone in your hand, staring at it waiting for it to light up and display an apologetic message from her but there was no luck, even though you was watching something, it just didn’t take your mind of her.
“Are you just going to stare at your phone all day?” A voice appeared from the door way which made you look.
You saw Wanda standing with her arms crossed and she gave you a smile as she walked over to you when you didn’t say anything “What’s wrong?”
You shrugged, you placed the phone on the night stand and sat up, not saying anything which Wanda took as an invitation to sit down near you.
Over the course of 2 months, you two were close friends but were still learning a lot about each other. For example during the team movie night, they all wanted to watch horror movies but you hated them. Of course you were teased for that but Wanda made sure they would choose something else. She wasn’t the only one who stuck by your side.
Natasha Romanoff did as well, she was quick to become your favourite person here, she was hilarious and could easily beat anyone here except Hulk because.. Well that dude is just not her size, though you could argue if it did come down to it. She loved playing pranks on the team and you soon become her partner in crime when it came to that, with your ability to control people’s minds you helped her do a lot of things like make people spill things or add too much spices to their food and watch them choke.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it but I can’t let you look this depressing. Come join me in the kitchen, I’m cooking dinner this time”
You raised your eyebrows at her to tease her “You cook?”
She chuckled and rolled her eyes “Of course I do. Now come on” She grabbed your hand, you took your phone with you and you two walked hand in hand towards the kitchen.
You help the Sokovian out a lot actually, even if you didn’t really had time to cook before but you always knew how to. When you would finish your part, you would just lean and watch her with admiration at how concentrate she was but you would snap out of it, reminding yourself that you were in a relationship.
She brought the spoon up to your face so your attention isn’t turned towards your phone “Here, taste it” which you did and your face lit up at the different taste.
“Good? Am I missing something?” She asked a little worried but you shook your head still trying to process how good her food is.
“No! Its perfect, not only you’re dead ass gorgeous but also an amazing cook” You were too memorized by the food to even think twice what you were saying.
She blushed and before you had time to even correct yourself she quickly changed the subject “So will you tell me what’s wrong?” She looked up from what she was doing at you.
You sighed and looked down at your phone to see nothing and decided to open up “Today is mine and Olivia’s 4 year anniversary but she decided to spend it with her friends instead”
“At least you’re not alone today..” She said with a small smile on her face, trying to light up the mood.
You nodded and she questioned “So what are you going to do?”
You shrugged “I’m not sure but I know one thing”
She looked confused to why you stopped and suddenly, your eyes turned white when Tony barged in with his eyes white, she looked at both of you and within seconds Tony got ahold of flour as he dumped it over the Sokovian witch.
You broke the trance and looked at Wanda who was covered in white from head to toe and Tony who was lost at how he even got here as he held an empty bag of flour in his hand.
You laughed as she used her powers to throw some of the flour on you but you went back in time and avoided the attack which made her chase you around the kitchen “I teach you how to cook a good meal and that’s how you repay me Y/n. You wait”
You knew she was going to do something and you were right, she made you freeze in place and had an egg held in her hand, you knew what she was going to do, she walked towards you with a smirk across her face.
“You have no way out, you can’t rewind or control anyone. The only fate here is the egg to be cracked on your head” The red mist entangled with her fingers controlling your captivity.
Tony was going to just walk out without protesting but she held him as well which made him speak up “What did I do?” He basically whined but Wanda didn’t care.
“For all I know you could get someone to help Y/n, so you’re staying here” She stated which made Tony shake his head “Actually I don’t care-”
She used her powers to stick a cloth inside his mouth so he would shut up, you was laughing at the whole thing but suddenly the egg turned into 10 which were floating in the air and were ready to be thrown at you but she was waiting.
“Come on Wands.. You don’t want to do this..” You tried your luck but she shook her head “Oh but I really do” and with that all those eggs aimed at you, covering you with the egg goo, she walked up closer as she held the last egg
“That’s for the flour” and she just cracked the egg on your head making it slowly run down your head which made her laugh and she let you go.
That was a mistake
What she didn’t notice was that you were planning to give it back to her, and suddenly your body collide with hers, holding her tight making sure she has some of that egg too. That’s when her eyes widen at how close yous are, making yous both blush and you let go off her, that’s when the rest of the team walks into the kitchen that’s covered in flour and egg shells.
“What in the world happened here” Someone exclaimed from the team, whilst Natasha laughed.

The next day
You ended up in Wanda’s room after the dinner, Nat did join yous for a while to watch some sitcoms but she wasn’t really into that, so she left later on when Wanda was drifting to sleep.
Somehow you ended up falling asleep along with Wanda, yous must’ve shifted in your sleep as now Wanda is cuddled into you with her head resting on your chest.
She has been awake for some time but she didn’t want to move, risking waking you up and parting away from her. She enjoyed your company a little too much, she always wanted to be around you, you made her days better, especially when she is having a rough day, she always knows she can count on you and that’s what caused her to fall for you.
When you joined the Avengers, that night you met them all, she was a little sceptic rather than welcoming, she sat away to avoid any interaction with anyone from the team, she was still a lot more closed off than she is now and when you approached her she knew she could trust you, it was a gut feeling.
Finding out you were in a relationship kind of bothered Wanda but she brushed it off, especially since there was nothing she could do about it. The more she got to know you the more she liked you, you were like a golden retriever; Happy, beautiful, smart but if someone pissed you off you was like Natasha which was why Natasha found herself hanging out more with you than the rest of the team.
Wanda looked up from where she was, staring at your relaxed featured, just taking in how calm you looked, her heart melting at the sight of you.
“Watching me sleep creepy lady?” You asked still with your eyes closed.
She tensed when you suddenly spoke up but relaxed within seconds when she rolled her eyes at you “No?” She had a blush across her cheeks for being caught.
You smiled as your hand reached to your face to rub your eyes and stretch out “Mhm sure”
Your raspy voice in the morning will be Wanda’s favourite thing from now on. The only girl you ever had in bed (besides your ex girlfriends), was Olivia and now that Wanda is here with you is.. different. You would be lying if you said that you didn’t like it but you did, her embrace was comforting.
Yous decided it was best to get up and cook breakfast before the whole team wakes up. Well Wanda cooked breakfast whilst you quietly stare at her, drinking your coffee at the same time.
Natasha was the first one up from the rest of the team and ate Wanda’s breakfast, she wanted to spar with you so you agreed, it was a good idea to just get fired up before the mission. She was good and you needed some hand to hand combat skills in case your powers refuse you.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Couple hours later
Travelling to a Hydra base wasn’t something everyone was thrilled about, the whole team was needed for no reason, you and Wanda could just take the whole place down with your powers but this mission was tricky, yous didn’t need to just beat them up but you needed their data and blow their base up, S.H.E.I.L.D. intel wasn’t the best, they barely gathered anything apart that this base had some dangerous weapons that’s why you were needed.
As soon as the whole team along with you jumped out of the Quinjet, you expected agents to be flooding the field but there was nothing. You was instructed to go near the base just in case they flooded out since you could rewind time, so just like that you started to approach the base.
You walked inside and there was no one there, you expected it to be heavily guarded but no one was seen, so you went further inside as you reached to your ear to inform the team, that’s when the guards made their way out and spotted you.
You pressed your ear so the team can hear you whilst you talk down the guards, just in case your powers failed so the team would be informed to help you “Look fellas, I’m here.. you are here. Can we not be buddies?”
You tried but they launched at you and you simply went back in time, just enough before they spotted you. You reached to your ear and spoke quietly “This must be a set up, the guards know we are here they are waiting for us to approach the base, I can sneak inside and just do the work quickly. Just wait for my signal”
The team agreed that you should do it but Wanda protested “No Y/n! Come back and let’s do this together”
“Maximoff, Everything will be fine besides I can rewind if anything goes wrong. It’s okay.” You spoke and started to make your way towards the guards, you hid behind them and controlled one of their minds as you made them fight each other, knocking them out, you pulled their bodies to where you were so other were not alerted. You took their weapons and attached it near the bomb that you was suppose to plant.
You made your way to the core of the base and there was no one but you knew better, you closed your eyes and searched for any soul near you which you did find, you forced them to the centre and pushed them as their body was shot multiple times.
You reached to your ear to let know the team that you made it “Okay, I’m at the core of the base, I have the pen drive, I’ll plant the bomb as soon as the data starts to transfer.”
The team sighed in relief that you were still alive but they were pretty much surprised that the amount of guards. Wanda and Natasha knew something was wrong but they couldn’t go against orders, even if they were your orders they were approved by everyone.
You plugged the pen drive inside the slot and placed the bomb near the weapons, the timer will start as soon as you let Tony know to start it, you started at the huge screen as the percentage increased. You knew it was too good to be true to just leave without being detected.
A sharp sting in your shoulder and thigh occurred that muted the gunshots from behind you as you turned around to see the guard with a gun in his hand and little smoke coming from it, making you aware that you have been shot twice, you looked back you at the screen which was closer to finishing, as you controlled his mind and made him shoot his leg himself and knock himself out.
The focus for the mission was keeping you busy from the pain but as soon as you moved your leg, the pain was stronger which made you groan and limp towards the computer, as soon as it hit 100%, you snatched the drive and slowly made your way towards the exit where you saw about 5-10 guards standing with their guns pointing at you.
You laughed a little and took the weapon attached to your belt as you started to shoot at them, they were shooting at you but they missed as you went back in time but each time you did the less energy you had, it was mainly because you was losing blood and was hit couple more times, you didn’t even notice until you moved from your place to hide behind something.
You reached to your ear, taking a deep breath and speaking “Tony start the timer.”
“On it” He spoke to your ear and soon enough his voice spoke up again “Okay, you have 3 minutes before the whole place blows up, can you make it?” He asked the question he didn’t want to, which he earned a shocking glare from Wanda and Natasha, they weren’t expecting that.
“Yeah, I’m on my way out” As you spoke, gunshots slipped through which made the team be more worried.
“Y/n do you need back up?” Natasha asked and there was no reply, they were about to run inside from the Quinjet but Tony started to fly above. You and him had a plan which the team wasn’t inform off, this way you wouldn’t be stopped, they thought they will be joining you but you was suppose to go alone.
“Tony what the fuck are you doing?” Natasha harshly spoke as she stared at him from behind but he didn’t answer.
Wanda worried stood up “We need to help Y/n!” But she was ignored as well.
You knew you didn’t have time but you hoped this will work out, the reason to why the team wasn’t needed was because that could cause a lot of problems like compromising the mission but they were there in case things went south.
You took a deep breath and with everything you had, started to run towards the exit, with the pain becoming more stronger, which had some guards there but you manged to knock them out with your mind control, you failed to notice that one of them pretended to be knocked out so when you approached the exit, you was shot again, this time nearer to your heart which punctured your lung, you knew this is bad but you went on.. At least tried to, right as you reached the end, you were close to dropping to the ground but that’s when the bomb went off, sending you flying into the air, several feet away from the base and where the Quinjet was.
You was barely breathing and barely conscious to what was happening around you, but one redhead made it towards you. You smiled at whoever was there and started to close your eyelids since they become so heavy.
“Oh my god, Y/n” A shaky voice spoke up, you could tell it was Wanda.
You tried to wave your hand to dismiss it but the pain was too much so you spoke up “It’s fine..”
She covered your mouth with her hand “Shut up and save your energy! You can’t die now”
You was trying hard to stay awake but it wasn’t working and the darkness was much closer than you really wanted, you passed out the second the Sokovian redhead lifted you with her powers.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Long couple hours later
The medical wing wasn’t keen on giving anyone any information about your condition which only worried everyone. Wanda barely left the waiting room in hopes that they will crack and tell her about you but nothing.
She wanted to barge in there and demand answers but she knew better than to delay your way to recovery. Wanda was more than worried, she was terrified, at the thought of your body going limb when she picked you up really scared her.
At the loss of her parents and her brother, she thought she would never open up to anyone but when you waltzed into her life, you instantly melted her walls with just one look, you made it easier to breath when she was around you, that’s why she can’t lose you.
Tony along with Natasha and Steve made their way towards Wanda, they knew she was upset.
she looked up, her blood boiling at the sight of Tony, she stood up with her eyes turning red “What do you think you’re doing here?” the question was laced with venom.
“Are there any news?” Natasha asked knowing that anything could trigger Wanda.
She shook her head but her glare didn’t leave Tony which angered her more, she wanted him out of this hallway, she wanted to see you smile and laugh.. Just be alive but you are in there with no updates.
“Look Witch, me and her had a plan before we went on the mission, she was suppose get out there before the bomb went off but obviously the plan didn’t work out exactly like we wanted, she was suppose to be on the Quinjet before it exploded, she knew it was a set up but she went anyways, we needed that data and now we are able to create better weapons because of it.” He tried to explain the best he could to Wanda, he felt guilty he didn’t let someone else come with you but they both knew it would be dangerous.
“Why didn’t you just let me or Natasha come with her!” She screamed, it made some lights flicker as her powers slowly emitted from her.
Tony took a deep breath “She didn’t want anyone, I tried to convince her to take someone but she said that would rather die than let anyone else suffer”
With his words, Wanda’s eyes turned back to normal as it filled with tears, she was so mad at you for doing such a reckless thing without even talking to her about it. Natasha approached her and gently wrapped her arms around Wanda, she was trying her best to keep her tears in but that was slightly impossible.
Doctor Helen Cho walked out to the scene, she made herself known by clearing her throat, immediately Wanda turned and stared at her, she was dreading this moment but put a brave face.
“This might be hard to hear but Y/n flatlined three times before going into a stable condition. Some of the bullets made their way towards further into her body, especially into her lung, it was difficult to even take it out but we did it and she should be okay, she lost a lot of blood so we put her into a medically induced coma to record quicker but she can easily slip into her own coma from so much trauma so we will be monitoring her for now” She spoke, explaining everything that went on inside that small room.
The only two things that stuck with Wanda was that you flatlined three times but you’re alright. She closed her eyes, trying her best to keep calm, as she sat back down in the chair, they all looked at the Sokovian, it was kind of scary to see her like this.
Natasha took it as an opportunity to ask if anyone can go in and visit you “Is visiting possible?”
Helen nodded “Yes but one at a time, too much people might disturb her”
Wanda stood up with the most dull face you could witness “How many times?”
Helen took a deep breath “She was shot 7 times”
Wanda nodded and just walked inside the room leaving the 3 behind, she needed to be there when you wake up, she knew how much you hated bright white rooms, she never knew the exact reason but she never asked, she wanted you to tell her.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Two weeks later
The air in the compound was thick with tense, especially since Wanda never wanted to leave your side but she was needed in some small missions, now that you was gone she was needed twice as much, you and her made missions seem so much easier but now that you are still in the coma, she was forced to leave you.
Wanda was currently after her mission, she was exhausted but she rushed to your side to be there when you wake up, she had a feeling you would wake up. She was there for hours but still no luck, that’s when there was a knock on the door which her head followed, she saw Vision.
She relaxed and walked outside to see him, he tried to convince her to go shower and rest but she didn’t want any of that, she just wanted to be here, you woke up during that time, your eyes scanned the room that’s when it landed outside the window to Vision and Wanda, you were so high on painkillers that you didn’t even notice any pain.
He was extremely close to her, his hand on her cheek and looked at her so lovingly, she looked sad and his other hand was on her hip holding her close. You wasn’t sure how long you have been out but it must’ve been long since Vision and Wanda are now together (Obviously they weren’t), at the sight of them that close, your heart broke. You had feelings for Wanda for sometime now but Olivia was your girlfriend and you knew you had to bury those feelings, especially now that Wanda is with someone else.
You hated bright rooms so your breathing increased, slowly having a little panic attack when you came to your senses, the heart monitor started to beep faster which caught Wanda’s attention.
She ran inside leaving Vision, to which he just walked away a little disappointed, she held your hand “It’s okay Y/n, I’m here sweetie”
You relaxed at her touch but your breathing didn’t steady “Y/n look at me and follow my breathing”
She started to breathe slowly in and out which you mimicked, you was relaxing, she always had that effect on you, tears started to run down your face which Wanda carefully wiped with her thumb.
You leaned into her touch as you blurted out “Take me home please..”
Your pleading broke Wanda’s heart, she knows how much you hate these rooms “Y/n..”
“Please Wan.. I can’t stay here, its too cold and lonely” You begged her and her grip tighten around your other hand.
“I’m here Детка (baby), and I’m not going anywhere” She spoke as she stared into your eyes.
“I can’t stay here” Another tear slipped down your face, Wanda nodded with a sad smile “Okay.. I will talk to the doctor but for now rest, I will be here моя любовь (My love)”
You didn’t understand what she was saying, for all you know she could call you an idiot but the way she said it, just made you want to listen to her talk all the time.
You nodded and a thought struck you “Wanda…” She hummed as an answer to which you continued “Could you lay with me here until I fall asleep?”
Wanda wanted to just stay in your arms forever but to be asked to cuddle you till you fall asleep because you are terrified of this hospital room, made her even happier, she nodded and climbed next to you as you carefully hugged into her, with her scent filling your nose and her heartbeat you felt safe.
“Do you want to know why I don’t like bright white rooms?” you asked and she nodded.
You wasn’t sure if you should look at her because if you broke down it would be harder to stop but taking a deep breath you looked up and stared into her green eyes, they held this reassurance, she didn’t need to use her words, her eyes said it all
“When I was young, my mother and father decided they didn’t want me so they gave me up for some experiments..” You paused as a flashback of the white room appeared before your eyes, you exhaled shakenly “ All I really remember is the multiple white rooms and the cold empty feeling whilst they did whatever they did”
“So please.. Get me home, I don’t want to be here” Another tear escaped your eyes.
Her free hand cupped your cheek as she wiped the tear and nodded with a smile “You’ll go home, just rest”
It pained her listening to your past, as a little girl to be put through something like that, it must’ve been really scary. Wanda’s hand traced circles on your back, relaxing you, making you fall asleep with her. The red power coursing through her hand near your head as she gave you pleasant dreams.
“Sweet dreams Солнечный свет (Sunshine)”

HAIR COLOR:: white as snow due to albinism
HAIRSTYLE:: short/medium length, usually tousled beyond hope. He has thick, straight hair (tho a few unexpected waves often appear here and there) that has a mind of its own. On top of that, his home country is known for its unpredictable weather and high winds so any of Eiríkur’s attempts to style his hair nicely will be in vain within a few hours. The end result looks as if he hasn’t brushed his hair in a few weeks
HEIGHT:: 180 cm / 5′11′‘
WEIGHT:: 67 kg / 147 lbs
BUILD:: lanky, very narrow frame, gangly and awkward with legs for days... you know that teenager stage where it looks like someone attached a string to the top of their head and pulled up? that what I’m trying to say is he’s like a noodle
TATTOO(S):: N/A
SCAR(S):: covered in burn scars thanks to being volcanic (plus a few “oopsies”)

PREFERRED FASHION:: his beloved lopapeysas paired with black skinny jeans and a nice pair of boots (either ankle or knee high). Often wears all black or dark colours (dark blue, dark grey, deep mossy green, brown) and combined with his white hair and pale skin, ends up looking like he’s escaped from an old b&w photograph. He doesn’t care for accessories other than a pair of earbuds either plucked in his ears or looped around his neck. Usually wears two layers (wool can be itchy directly against the skin) and when the weather gets colder, he adds a furry-hooded parka and gloves to his ensemble but often skips other warm items of clothing like scarfs and hats
TYPICALLY SMELLS LIKE:: his asthma doesn’t handle strong smells so Eiríkur doesn’t wear cologne or use any scented soaps or shampoos, usually he only smells clean, a little musky, a warm vanilla kind of smell like an old and beloved book. Residual smells from his daily life may include wool, animals, coffee, rosin, etc. Sometimes he may carry faint hint of sulphur, again, thanks to being a volcanic nation

Girls’ Night
Summary: “Promise me you’ll at least talk to him,” she said softly, and Spencer sighed softly, his eyes opening again as a fresh sheen of wetness built up in his eyes, threatening to smear the white gel liner on his bottom lash line.
“I’ll think about it,” he whispered.
Potential tws: Slight Angst
--
Lo and behold, Spencer had agreed to show the girls his makeup techniques, so he was going to follow through with it. He was talented with it, and if his own tutorials didn’t prove that, then maybe doing it in person would. The girls were so excited to spend a night with him, and officially declared that upcoming Friday girl’s night. He was used to spending his weekends with his fellow queens, but maybe he could take a week off to spend some quality time with friends and colleagues. They respected him all the same, and instead, viewed him in a new light as far as hidden talents went. He had a gift and they were almost disappointed that he hadn’t shared it with them in the past.
Friday came and he was growing nervous. The girls clung to him whenever they could, and while Rossi and Hotch didn’t quite understand their newfound attachment for Reid, Morgan knew exactly what was going on. He began to feel a questionable attraction for his colleague, and he had never been so confused with his sexual orientation in all his life. Reid was a man, of course… But after seeing him dressed like that, looking as beautiful as any woman he had ever seen, he realized that Spencer had a beauty even in his traditional wardrobe and style. He wasn’t a different person in Derek’s eyes, but instead a person with a whole other side of him that he hadn’t known about until last night.
Spencer was a seductive, sexy woman by night but an awkward, socially inept doctor by day. The two pieces of him contrasted so greatly, and if Derek didn’t know the truth, he would burst into laughter if someone told him that Spencer was a well known, successful drag queen by night. Hell, he was practically famous on social media, with nearly a million followers on Instagram and tens of thousands of subscribers on YouTube. He was talented, and it was somewhat sad that he felt he had to keep it hidden from his daily life.
Derek just couldn’t get him off his mind. The events of last night were forever kept on the forefront of his brain, and the way Spencer had winked at him was so uncharacteristically hot. Spencer was an awkward man who could barely even catch on to flirting, and he was usually very uncomfortable with anything sexual, but on that stage was a person that Derek didn’t quite recognize as Spencer. No, that was Bria Monique, and she was radiated sexual energy beautifully. The way those long legs seemed to go on for miles before disappearing underneath of that tight, pink mini dress, his slim, surprisingly hourglass-physique, his pretty face where a dark wig, about the same color as his natural hair, fell in spiral ringlets. Absolutely stunning.
Spencer didn’t know that Derek was feeling this way about him, because again, he was somewhat oblivious to the romantics. But that night, he was in for it, even if he didn’t know it yet.
The work day came to an end without incident of a case, thankfully, and Spencer promised to meet the girls at Garcia’s apartment at seven. It was supposed to be a sleepover, and as unsure about that as he was, he finally agreed to it. Spencer decided to show them who the real Spencer was, as feminine and girly as he was. He dressed in a pair of black leggings, a loose grey tank top, and a hot pink cardigan overtop — his typical pajamas. It was not what they expected, most likely, but it was going to be fun to actually be himself for once around his friends.
He brought along some of his outfits just for fun and several wigs in case the girls wanted to try them on or wanted him to put them on, as well as his entire makeup collection, which wasn’t small by any means. So, with a duffle bag on one shoulder, he loaded it into his car and also brought along his portable, wheeled makeup case. This was his lifeline at the clubs, because he always brought everything into those little back dressing rooms to make sure he was pristine for his performances.
As soon as he parked in one of the guest spots in Garcia’s apartment parking lot, he began to have doubts. He didn’t want his friends to look down on him or think of him in a negative light, but when he looked up from his trembling hands on the steering wheel, he was instantly relieved. Garcia led the pack, with JJ and Emily following on either side, all dressed in comfy clothing — Garcia had bunny slippers on. But they were excited to see him and he was greeted with a chorus of gasps and excited exclamations upon seeing his chosen outfit.
“You look so cute, Spence!” JJ cooed sweetly, to which he simply blushed and mumbled a shy thank you. He was given a hug by all of them, and Garcia questioned where the makeup was, looking in his car skeptically but looking somewhat disappointed when all she saw was a duffle bag in the backseat, which she assumed was just a change of clothes. Spencer simply smirked at her, handing over the duffle bag to Emily who took it curiously before he rounded his car and popped open the trunk. He lifted the heavy makeup case and set it down on the concrete, smiling at their surprised but eager expressions. And from there, they went inside and settled in for a night of fun.
Believe it or not, Spencer knew how girls’ nights worked. Hell, he practically participated in one once or twice a week, with his fellow queens at the clubs they performed in. He was surrounded by positive energy when he was there, and he only hoped it would be the same with his female colleagues. He was nervous to be in this situation, because he had never told anyone about his hidden pastime, not even his own mother, who knew just about everything there was to know about him.
But the night progressed pretty smoothly, and Spencer was actually having fun. He wasn’t a big drinker, due to his issues with his previous addiction, and when he didn’t drink, he did so in moderation. So far two hours in, he was still working on his first drink, but it had been long forgotten when he started to do the girls’ makeup. JJ was first. Youthful, pretty JJ. Even without makeup, she was stunning, and he made sure to tell her so.
“How have you and Will been?” Emily asked JJ, who had her eyes closed while Spencer swiped the stick foundation over her skin, beginning to blend as soon as he had made sure to put enough. She didn’t need much though — she had such a nice complexion that he was almost jealous.
“We’ve been good! Will is a pro at changing diapers,” JJ joked, giggles following soon after.
“What about you, Em? Having any luck in the area of romance?” Garcia asked, curling her friends
“Oh please. The last guy I talked to moved back to his hometown in L.A.,” she said with a little shake of her head. Spencer actually chuckled at that comment, and it seemed like his presence was remembered, even if his hands were currently all over JJ’s face.
“What about you, queen?” Garcia cooed, his head shooting up a bit at the nickname since it was a pretty common nickname — when he was in drag. It brought a shy smile to his face though, and he quickly shook his head. Penelope thought it was was almost amazing to know that this awkward man was a drag queen. But she could remember him so well, walking in heels better than she could ever dream of. In her opinion, he was the personified version of the word fierce.
“Oh, please… Me?” He said with a slight roll of his eyes, only to be responded with a gaggle of shocked girls. He had to know how stunning he was… Did he really not?
“Spence…” JJ said, pushing him back so they could all regard him with somewhat surprising expressions, Garcia looking downright horrified as if he had just spoken blasphemy. Spencer had been told so many times how closely he resembled a real woman in drag, but that was from his fellow queens so it was often hard to really believe them since they always worked to encourage each other. Being a drag queen could be a dangerous job, One incident alone made Spencer uncomfortable leaving the club in his drag persona: he had been hit on by a group of guys, at first innocent enough, but when they discovered that he was actually a man, they nearly beat him for it. Luckily, the club security got involved just in time, but it definitely made him realize that going out in public as his persona was unsafe.
“Come on, Reid, you have to have someone. At least a secret admirer?” Prentiss chimed in, the other two girls looking at her knowingly since it was quite obvious who she was talking about. But still, Spencer looked both innocent and oblivious to her not-so-subtle allusion. When they realized that he wasn’t kidding, just looking back and forth between them all expectantly, Emily sighed and rested her head in her hand, Garcia stared at him, and JJ just giggled.
“You… really don’t know?” Penelope nearly whispered, and Emily lifted her head up finally, not wanting to watch Garcia suffer anymore.
“Morgan,” she said, Spencer looking confused again.
“As in…”
“Derek Morgan,” JJ filled in.
“You’re kidding,” Spencer said, smiling slightly only for it to slowly drop as the others looked at him with an expression of utmost seriousness. What…
“You’re not kidding…” he mumbled then, shaking his head and distracting himself by returning to JJ’s face. She looked at him with those pretty blues, but he avoided eye contact at all costs. Of course, he found Derek drop dead gorgeous. He had the physique of a god and his sex appeal would get Spencer hot and bothered if they weren’t colleagues. Or, most importantly, if Derek wasn’t as straight as a whistle. That was probably the most important part, actually, and Spencer wasn’t prone to falling for straight guys. It would only end up hurting him in the future.
“Did you see the way he looked at you?” Emily said, JJ nodding her head immediately.
“He’s got it bad, Spence.”
“He’s straight,” Spencer said dismissively, shaking his head quickly in response while looking through his makeup case for an eyebrow pomade that would match JJ’s brows. He did, fortunately, even though he didn’t usually go blonde. A queen always had be prepared. “He saw me in drag and just got confused, that’s all. Do you know how many men have been disappointed when they talk to me and realize I’m a man?”
“But he knows that already,” Penelope tried to assure him, “He knows you’re a man, but he still seems interested in you.”
“I’ve never seen him look at someone like he does you,” Emily said. Spencer pulled back and examined JJ’s brows, eyes flicking back and forth between them until he deemed them symmetrical. He put the pomade back in his case, fishing around for his rainbow colored eyeshadow palette.
“Is that the…” Penelope started, Reid smirking and nodding.
“James Charles palette? Yes, it is,” he said, opening it up. It was a well loved palette too, even the adventurous greens and blues showing signs of usage. He swabbed a brush in the warm orange color, getting to the nitty gritty.
“Hey, don’t try and distract us,” JJ said quickly, ignoring Spencer’s hushing and complaints that he needed her to stay still.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said with a shrug of his shoulders. He worked in silence for a few minutes, enough for him to finish JJ’s eyeshadow and soon her sleek cat eye too. He swiped a liquid gold glitter over her lids, looking back and nodding his head as a smile grew on his face. JJ was absolutely stunning, even without makeup, but to know that he could accentuate her magnificent features was something that made Reid proud. He finished up with a dusting of blush over her cheeks and a nude lipstick and gloss. When he deemed her finished and held her the mirror, she squealed and the other girls looked excited.
After a few more hours, the girls were all dolled up, and they asked if Spencer planned on doing his own makeup. He hadn’t planned on it… But they seemed eager to watch him, so he gave them what he wanted. He glued the ends of his brows down, the girls looking somewhat taken aback by the action. But he told them to wait and simply continued on. He sculpted his face into that of a goddess, and Penelope made sure to tell him just how pretty he was, even before he was actually finished. He kept it tame for their sake, going for a new eye look with a sharp wing, forming a pretty peach pout on his lips before glueing his favorite lashes on. He dusted a bit more highlighter over his cheekbones and the tip of his nose, looking himself in the mirror and telling them to turn around for the ultimate reveal. He slipped a wig cap on, not bothering with glueing the wig down since it would be coming off within the next hour or so — and he wasn’t going to be performing, so that was another reason.
He opened up his duffle bag, slipping out his favorite wig; it was the same one he wore for his most recent performance, the one they had seen him in already. He slipped it on, making sure it was even and tossing the curls around before letting them fall over his shoulders.
“You can look now,” he said, his meek voice not quite matching the image they were greeted with.
“Dr. Reid, you are hot,” Emily said in disbelief, the other girls agreeing immediately while Garcia reached forward to play with his dark hair.
“It’s Bria Monique, baby,” he said in a voice that spoke seduction, and he winked at her with no hesitation. Her jaw fell open, and they all erupted into a fit of laughter, Spencer included. Pretty soon, the girls were all laying down, heads pressed together as they spoke of their life aspirations, gazing up at the ceiling as if it held all of the answers. Once they reached a moment of silence though, Spencer realized that the others were probably all sleep, but he didn’t let Penelope’s sleepy request go unheard.
“Promise me you’ll at least talk to him,” she said softly, and Spencer sighed softly, his eyes opening again as a fresh sheen of wetness built up in his eyes, threatening to smear the white gel liner on his bottom lash line.
“I’ll think about it,” he whispered.
Within just a few minutes, he was carried away into the land of dreams, where he was able to rest without disturbances of reality.

Guardian of Light
So for anyone wondering, I don’t have an update schedule at all, just posting when I feel like it, mostly to avoid going to bed. This chapter gives you some information and a flashback to Marinette’s past before she was found unconscious in Paris.
Would it be helpful to you guys if I put Marinette’s age at the beginning of each section so you have an idea of how much time has past between each part of the story.

Chapter 4: First Days
(Age 3)
Marinette was used to her colourful bedroom so when she awoke in a room that was completely white she was confused. There was no blue ceiling with fluffy white clouds and glow in the dark star stickers, no lush green mountains or fields with fun little animals running around, no giant stuffed animals or anything of the other things that were in her room.
Confused, she was about to call out for her Maman and Papa when she remembered the birthday party in the park and the strange man that had taken her away. Tears started to form in her eyes as the fear came back.
“None of that now.” A voice said. Marinette turned her head to see the man who had taken her standing in the rooms’ doorway. “Crying is for the weak and the weak are unacceptable here.”
“I want to go home,” Marinette said. A part of her wanted to suck on her thumb but that was something babies did and she was three. Not to mention she had a feeling that if crying wasn’t allowed, then neither was thumb sucking.
“Whining is unbecoming of a young lady such as yourself,” The man said. “As for going home, there is no need; this is your home now, Niu.”
“Niu?” Marinette repeated, having never heard the word before. The man had pronounced it ‘nee oo’.
“Your name,” the man said.
“My name is Marinette,” she told him, confused. He had called her it in the park after all.
“That was the name of a weakling, of someone insignificant and worthless,” The man’s voice was cold and mean sounding. “Niu is your name now. You will respond to it. You will not ever respond to Marinette ever again. If you do not follow either of these rules, you will not like what happens. Failure is not acceptable here. Marinette is dead as of today. In her place stands Niu, someone who will be worth something, who will make a difference in the world. From this day on, you will be training with me and the other Guardians so that you can reach that goal. When you are done with your training and have shown us that you are worthy of the title of Grand Guardian you will be able to earn your own name.”
“Who are you?”
“I am Guardian Zhu. I will be your teacher from this point forward. To fail or to be weak here isn’t just a short coming on your part but it also negatively affects me. As such, I expect nothing but perfection from you. If you do not perform to perfection then you will have to face the consequences, and trust me when I say, you will not like them. Now get up. It is time to eat and then I will be showing you what chores I will be expecting you to do every day upon waking.”
Marinette’s chest felt like lead. She swallowed before swinging her legs over the bed and standing up. She walked over to Guardian Zhu, her head looking down at the ground as her heart pounded; her entire body trembling as she walked.
Guardian Zhu whipped around, his hand reaching out and slapping her straight across the face. Marinette fell to the ground, one hand reaching up to touch her face in shock. “You will answer me with a ‘yes Master’ when I speak to you.” Guardian Zhu said sternly.
Marinette looked up at him, her heart pounding. “Yes Master,” she whispered.
(Age 12)
Marinette walked calmly down to the bakery, her parents already down there and working for the day. She would have normally been down there, learning their trade the same way she had every other day, but today marked the first day of school for her. Her parents informed her that she had been in school and with her class the day she was taken but as far as she could remember she had only been taught by a parade of different tutors from across the world. The largest group of peers she had learned with had been four, and that had only been on the one occasion, with most of her other classes either being just her, her and Nuri, or her, Nuri and his cousin, though it was rare that Mara was allowed to learn with them. The rest of the Fist weren’t allowed to ever train with her or Nuri since they were seen as so below them. Never had she been in a class full of strangers.
“Morning Marinette,” Her father greeted from where he was kneading some dough.
“Morning Tom,” she greeted. She and her parents had agreed that it was a bit too soon for her to call them anything but their names. She was waiting for some sort of ‘special’ occasion to call them by any paternal nicknames, though she was unsure if she would ever truly view them as her mom or dad. She wished she could talk to Nuri about this. He would know what it was like to suddenly find himself living with a biological parent that was more stranger than parent.
“Are you ready for your first day of school?” Sabine asked her, having just finished ringing up a customer. The only one that had been in the bakery. The calm before the breakfast rush.
“I have all the suggestion supplies and a few of my own,” Marinette told her. She wasn’t sure what she expected from classes, she didn’t need them after all since she was guaranteed to be farther ahead in her own studies, but they were going to make her seem like a normal kid. She just had to remember to get a question wrong every once in a while and not to see eager to answer questions.
“I meant mentally, sweetie,” Her mother said.
Marinette shrugged, something that would have gotten her smacked at the very least if she’d done it at the Temple or League, but was something she’d seen Chloe do regularly enough that she assumed it was something common among Paris school children. “I see no reason not to be ready. It’s school. I listen to teachers talk about subjects, I socialize, I eat, I go back to class, I come back here.”
Sabine just smiled at her like she was missing something. Why would she be nervous about school of all things? It’s not like she was scaling a cliff wall during an earthquake without any equipment. “If you get overwhelmed or anything like that you can come home right away and we’ll let the school know you weren’t feeling well or something,” Sabine offered.
Marinette smiled at her and thanked her for the offer even though she was sure she wouldn’t need it. It was the polite thing to do after all.
“Here’s your lunch,” Tom said, handing her a stack of tupperware. She placed it in her bag and looked up to see her father handing her a box with the bakeries logo on it. “A little treat to share with your classmates on the first day of the year.”
“Thank you,” Marinette said smiling up at her father. He just offered her the perfect chance to get to know her classmates and decide which ones would be the most useful to be on friendly terms with.
Marinette was about two steps out the bakery doors when a limo pulled up long the crub. The window rolled down to reveal Chloe.
“Get in,” she said.
“The school is literally across the street,” Marinette protested. “Why don’t you get out and walk?”
“Because I’m wearing heels,” Chloe said. Marinette couldn’t really argue against that. Even the Temple didn’t make her wear heels unless absolutely necessary.
Marinette climbed into the limo, realizing there was someone else in the limo. “Hi I’m Marinette,” she said, putting her hand out for the other girl, a red head, to shake.
The girl gripped her hand, firm and professional. “I’m Sabrina Raincomprix. Sorry we haven’t met yet but I’ve been with my mom in Scotland. Divorced parents and all that. But Chloe told me how she made a new friend. I can’t wait to get to know you.”
Marinette smiled at the girl. “Same.” she said politely.
She looked the girl over noting that she looked a bit uncomfortable in her skin, though Marinette couldn’t tell if that was because she was self-conscious or she wasn’t comfortable in the clothing she was wearing. She’d bet that Chloe had picked this girls outfit out for her the same way she had for Marinette. Not that Marinette minded; it gave her a better idea of youth fashion in Paris.
Sabrina was wearing a pair of purple flared dress pants with a blue button up and dark grey blazer. Her shoes were mainly white with black toe covers, laces and soles. She had a white headband in her hair and a pair of red toned brown glasses sitting on her nose.
Chloe, on the other hand, wore an outfit of black and yellow. Actually, Marinette couldn’t think of a time in which the heiress wasn’t wearing black and yellow. At least it made buying gifts on her birthday easier if Marinette went the clothing route. She wore a black pleated skirt with balck tight and black belt. She wore a ¾ sleeve yellow shirt topped with a shiny black tie. Her hair was pulled back into a high ponytail and with a pair of black sunglasses sitting on top of her head. Her heels were black with gold little bobbles that suggested buttons, and red underbottoms hinting to their designer origins.
Marinette had decided to wear the outfit Chloe had sent her. One, she was still trying not to rock the boat, and two, Chloe would know better than her what would be popular to wear on the first day of school. Marinette could study all she wanted but there were only things you could learn first hand. She wore a dress which had two different colours, separating the top and the bottom to give the appearance of her wearing a skirt and top. The skirt of the dress was royal blue in a half circle style. A black belt, it was really just a strip of fabric sewn into the dress, sat just below her waist, creating a drop waist silhouette. The top of the dress was also black with ¾ sleeves and a large curved neckline. Chloe had sent her a pair of black kitty heels but she had decided to wear flats and her hair was pulled up into what would be a ballerina bun if Marinette’s hair wasn’t several feet long, the layers in her hair creating a messier, more teenage, version to the perfect bun of professional ballerinas.
The limo pulled up to the curb in front of the school. The three of them got out and Chloe’s driver pulled away. Sabrina and Chloe started to head into the building but Marinette grabbed Chloe’s arm before she could get too far away.
“Why does this place feel familiar?” she asked the blond, the only person outside of her parents who knew of her kidnapping and knew her before it had happened.
Chloe looked at her paling a bit as she came to a realization. “Our old school, where we attended Maternelle, used to be here. They bulldozed it the year after you were taken,” CHloe whispered to her. “They built this school here last year when they decided to decrease class sizes in Paris and needed another school.”
“Oh,” Marinette said. After a moment she shrugged. “Hey, what better way to start a new chapter of your life then to close an old one.”
(Age 13)
There was an energy in the air when Marinette awoke that had not been there before. Something was going to happen today, she just knew it.
Marinette glanced over at the clock seeing that there were only a few minutes left until her alarm would go off and decided to get up anyways, knowing she could just say she was excited to start the school year if her parents made a comment. She didn’t know what they had against her waking up so early, they were bakers after all, but she tried to seem like she was sleeping in during the school year. She’d already been up at the wee hours of the morning to go for a run, both on the ground and across the rooftops. She wasn’t about to let herself get out of shape.
Marinette got dressed for her first day of class, slipping on the outfit that Chloe had picked out for her, once again gifting her and Sabrina with new clothing for the first day of school. Unlike the year before, Marinette’s style no longer shifted towards dark clothing, instead taking on a brighter and more colourful and inviting colour scheme, finding that it helped her fit in more and make her seem kinder and more inviting instead of cold and aloof. Not to mention she no longer had a tactical advantage with wearing darker colours that she needed to concern herself with.
This year Chloe had gotten her a pastel pink chiffon floor length skirt, something Marinette would never have picked for herself, but found herself liking it. It was also easy to hide her throwing daggers beneath the flowing skirt. She wore a whtie tank top that she did some white on white embroidery on since the outfit had arrived a couple of days before school started and she wanted to experiment with something new. She wore a light grey fisherman rib knitted sweater over it, which had actually been a hand knitted gift from Sabrina for her birthday. Judging by the texture of the yarn it was cashmere, and had likely been bought by Chloe. She had slept with curlers in her hair, leaving her hair in a nice wave before she pulled it back into one of her favourite styles, a messy bun. It hid the true length of her hair well and kept it out of her face while she worked, the messy nature making her seem more like a busy youth.
After a quick breakfast Marinette heads off to school, a box of Macarons from her dad for her to share with her classmates. She had convinced Chloe that they could just meet at school this year instead of having the blond pick her up in a limo, which meant she had to follow things like crosswalk lights, the one leading from her parents bakery to the school having just turned red when Marinette arrived. Sighing, she moved into a more relaxed position to wait only to see an old man half was across the street and a car speeding towards him.
Not about to let an old man be squished, it would put a bad spin on her day and she didn’t feel like dealing with the police, Marinette rushed forward and grabbed the man by the arm. A slight spark went through her and she glanced down spotting a bracelet on a leather string with a turtle in the middle. The spark that had come from the man could have been static shock but Marinette had trained long and hard enough to know what it felt to make contact with someone else who had trained to be a Guardian. This was the man who had all but destroyed the Order of Guardians, running off with the First Miracle Box and apparently wielding the Turtle Miraculous.
Marinette dropped her pastry box, making it appear as if she had stumbled a bit as the two of them made it safely back onto the sidewalk, reaching into her pocket to grab a tiny tracker that would look to the untrained eye to be a small pebble and slipped it into the man's pocket. She couldn’t let on that she had sense anything different about him but she wasn’t about to let him get away.
Marinette picked her dessert box off the ground hoping she hadn’t destroyed too many of the delicate macarons with that little trick before offering the man one out of politeness before crossing the street with a quick ‘stay safe’. If she found out where the man worked, most Guardians were to be self employed, she could ‘stumble’ upon it and try to gain the man's trust, at least until she found where the First Miracle Box was and could claim it, though it would be better if she could manipulate the old man into giving it to her since it would create a stronger bond right off the bat. She would stop at nothing to get the box however, even if it meant taking years to create a strong enough bond with the box and the Kwami’s inside. After all, the only reason the Guardians had not tried to contact her or bring her back to the Temple was because of their belief that unseen powers brought things to be and that one of those unseen powers was one of the reasons Marinette reunited with her parents and thus there must be a reason that she had to stay in Paris. Reclaiming the First Miracle Box and becoming Grand Guardian was her destiny and now she knew for a fact that it was in Paris, within miles of her, and she’d rather die than let it slip through her fingers then fail her destiny.
Heading over to the school, Marinette pushed thoughts of the First Miracle Box from her mind, instead focusing on being just Marinette, the daughter of two bakers. She smiled as she climbed the school steps instantly spotting Chloe standing just inside the entrance.
“I thought I’d have to make my way to our classroom before I found you,” she told the heiress. “What are you doing out here?”
“Waiting for you obvious,” Chloe said, lying to her. Marinette decided not to push it at the moment, mainly because the bell for them to head to class sounded, and she had all over lunch to interrogate her friend.
The world was apparently against her finding out what Chloe was lying to her for because after their first class during their study period, a massive crash sounded around the school. The surveillance showed one of her classmates, Ivan, transformed into a stone being. Marinette could have waved off the sudden attack as one of a pissed off Meta the way a lot of her schoolmates were doing, but with the meeting between her and the shameful Grand Guardian trainee had her thinking it was all too much of a coincidence for it not to all be Miraculous related.
Marinette made her way home and up to her room to formulate a plan on how she could be involved without bringing unwanted attention to herself but the second she stepped into her room she sensed something off. A quick glance around the room showed that someone had been up there and had left a black box on her desk. Someone who wasn’t her parents since they’d be too busy with the bakery to step out.
Slowly approaching the box, Marinette started going over all the possibilities of what the box could be when she saw a familiar symbol, one she had seen all her life.
The symbol of the Order of Guardians
A miraculous box was sitting on her desk.
Stepping forward she picked up the box and opened it, closing her eyes so as not to be blinded by the bright light that it omitted as the Kwami inside formed its physical body.
She opened her eyes and had to blink, not quite believing what she was seeing.
“Hello Marinette, you are the only one who can stop Stoneheart and save Ivan and the rest of Paris,” The Kwami, the Scarab Kwami, said looking up at her with wide eyes.
She was chosen to be the next Scarab wielder.
Well shit, she hadn’t been this put off by a surprise revelation since she’d woken from the coma to find her birth parents waiting for her. Who knew that this was how the day was going to go.

“Dear Cutie,
I know I didn’t get to properly tell you goodbye this morning, and I also wasn’t able to tell you when I expected to see you again.
Meet me at 10 in the evening, bring me tea as a cover up, but make sure to bring two cups.
I’ll see you then,
Your Prince.”
I sighed a bit before I put it back into my pocket. Later in the evening, during his private tutoring session I came to bring him tea, and a little notes from my self under his cup. I held a serious expression and he unfolded it and kept it hidden in the pages of his book as the tutors were busy reading the papers he had just handed in.
“Prince,
I will gladly bring you tea, as one should if it is a crown prince’s order.
Awaiting your orders.”
He looked behind his shoulder a bit and at me with serious eyes, he clicked his tongue before grabbing a sheet of paper and writing extremely large in the center.
“10 in the evening. An order.”
He looked back at me again, knowing I had read it. I bowed my head and I walked to the door.
I walked down the hall way to his majesty’s chamber, before I heard an alarm sound. Soon the hall was filled with servants and guests alike, all quickly moving to the hidden safety chambers that were under the castle. I followed one of the fellow servants down to the kitchen before filing into the hidden chamber.
A red light sat above the door, blinking. If it turned green we could exit back into the palace, if it turned white then we would have to evacuate through the hidden corridors. No one knew what was going on, some were shaking, some were crying, and some of us were complete silent.
“Does anyone know whats going on?” I asked a maid, Mina, she began working here around the same time I did. She shook her head before someone moved close to us and began to whisper, a cook named Hyunmin.
“Apparently, some of the masters of the court and trying to overthrow his majesty. The king had them shut down this rumor and began investigations, but we think that is whats going on. Overthrown by force.” He whispered, as even talking of such things could get you charged with treason if the wrong person heard and twisted your words.
I nodded before I looked down at my feet, moving closer to the wall and more people flooded in before the door was shut and the vault type lock was finally in place. We all sat back finally, although it was stuffy, it still felt like a slight breath of relief. One of the guards who had just filed in had a slight stain of red on his collar. We all noticed but none dared to say anything to him.
“I’m sure you are all wondering what is going on, I was instructed to stay in one of the group safety chambers in case this happened, and in case it goes any further and the need arises to leave through the underground corridors.” He said before plopping down on the ground slightly and sighing as he finally caught his breath. “This is not an overthrow of his majesty the king, but rather worse.” He said softly and slightly panting still.
“As everyone in this room knows, having been in the palace for long, the other sons of the king are simply illegitimate sons. The Crown Prince is the only heir to the thrown.” He said as he looked down. “This is not to overthrow the king, but rather to kill the heir.” He said and looked at us as some of the servants in the room gasped. I just looked down more.
There had been many mentions of this in history, killing the heir to the thrown instead of the one who sat in it. To kill of the lineage of those who ruled the country. With the way things in this country are going, Crown Prince Kihyun is known for being better than his father, that is the only reason why his father is still in place, so when he steps down his majesty the crown prince will step up to the thrown and rule the country like he has made evident he will do very well. His father is a corrupt man, having unjust marriages with those from other countries to create ties with them and then stabbing them in the back after taking their resources, having children that are only half his, or worse adopting them purely for the politics of it.
Never a king, more of a demon ruler that ruled what the servers in the palace liked to call his own little hell. And then there was Crown Prince Kihyun, someone who fed the people, with not just food but also knowledge, someone who was just the light that his country needed in the darkness that his devil of a father had created.
His majesty always says “I will one day be the king, my father how ever has never been king, for a king is someone who leads his people, not simply controls them. A king is someone who assigns the right people to the right jobs when the country is in need, not simply because of their connections. Marries someone for what is good for both himself and the country. And takes care of the youth instead of treating them like cattle that you can breed, sell, and slaughter.”
He knew that he would be king even if his father was overthrown, and those planning this attack did too. They don’t want the knew king gone in order to replace them with someone that could bring our nation back to the golden country is was in the past. They want to keep it in their own kind of darkness that will once again ruin those who will come after us.
We all sat around and waited, the silence filling the room as well as the sound of some people whimpering and crying. The knight that was in the room by the door was now being treated for a few of his wounds that he gained while traveling to the safety chamber. I for one was staring at my two golden buttons on my skirt, one representing I was a server of the Kingdom, and the other representing I was a server of the Crown Prince. I always saw these buttons as something that would always be on me, as an honor. But at this moment, I looked around and say everyone with it. This was not an honor. It was a branding, we were owned by the kingdom.
I was pulled from my thoughts as another siren sounded, and a new color light flashed brightly as we heard a door opening. This was not a door to freedom, this was not a door back into the palace and this was not the green light we were all hoping and praying for. This light symbolized someone very important had been captured, or worse killed.
Everyone tripped over their own feet as they ran out of the exit and into the hall that led us further underground.
After what felt like miles of walking we met up with other groups and were reaching what felt like an exit. They opened the door to the outside and began helping people outside. As I looked at the sun from the ladder, how long had the battle been, are they still fighting, even at sunrise? I asked my self as I was helped out and soon was ushered into a room with other servers where we would await news and get rest.
Someone had been hurt, someone important. If it was the king... the guards wouldn’t be this shaken up. If it was one of the other princes or even the princesses there would’ve already been an official report. We were pulled from our seats to head to a chamber that held bunk beds.
As we all laid down to rest for the first time, rumors flooded the air, ‘the crown prince was the one hurt’, ‘the crown prince has been murdered’, was all that could be heard.
I stood and exited the room, hoping to find a guard to ask where the head knights were. As I walked out everyone was still getting checked to make sure they were kingdom officials, guests, or palace servants instead of someone from the village that the safe house was in. I was directed toward a small building and I quickly walked in, three knights sat, having their wounds treated. At first they looked at me as if I was in the wrong place before they saw the two buttons and bowed before going back to their seated positions.
“As the his majesty’s servant, I would like to ask if I may have permission to read over the official response before they are released.” I said and they nodded and handed me some of the papers they were handed before the alarm had sounded. I looked over them, all these were were the assumed number of those who had escaped, and those that were still fighting, as well as the ranks of those that had sadly passed.
We heard people break out into whimpers and cries, before we ran outside quickly, looking for the commotion before finding all of the servers near the door that had led us to safety. I moved to the front with the knights I had just talked to before we say what was happening.
One of the forgotten concubines of the king was fallen on the ground before us, none of us sure of what had happened to her, but knowing she was still with us caused me to sigh in relief. I grabbed one of the knights arm before pulling him down and whispering what to do with her. He picked her up and moved her to the room of the other servants and had a medic summoned to look at her. In her hand was found a letter, with the royal seal over it.
The knights quickly brought it to the closest official, the minister of agriculture. He found a place where he could look over everyone and wiped his eyes before he began speaking.
“Due to the battle, the royal family has lost someone very dear to the nation’s heart, and very dear to many of us including those who worked in the palace especially.” He said before he gulped and looked at us, some of us clutching the ones next to us, and some standing in shock. “the beloved master of many, and the one nicknamed ‘The dawn’ of our kingdom. has been lost.” he said softly before stepping down as many broke down.
The dawn... The one that brings sunlight to the dark.

Merry Digi-Christmas!
This is my Secret Santamon gift for @escapingtheirony who requested a post-series MimixMichael story! Happy Holidays! Hope you enjoy it.
I couldn’t help throwing in a few of my other favorite pairings as well. And I sort of went more PG than G? Hopefully it’s not too strong for you. (If it is you can tell me and I’ll edit it.) I had a lot of fun writing this. But it’s very unedited so typos galore I’m sure. I have this weird habit of just leaving entire words out sometimes?
Wishing you all a wonderful 2018.
---
Following the events of 2002, the Chosen Children’s Christmas party turned into an excuse for them to get together when circumstances otherwise kept them apart. By the time Mimi was 20 years old, it had grown into a grand tradition. Even with the whole gang scattered this way and that - the older kids attending different universities, the younger ones busy with school and clubs — during Christmas they all made what effort they could to spend time with their old friends. Getting the Digimon together was also a benefit. Though Palmon, at least, never complained if much time passed before she saw one of the other Digimon, she was always thrilled whenever Mimi penciled in a gathering on the calendar.
It was Christmas Eve towards the end of her second year of college, the night of the Christmas party, and Mimi was closing up the quirky crepe shop where she’d been employed since moving back to Japan. “Quirky” was an understatement, at least according to Taichi. They served nearly any flavor combination, from squid ink to bacon fat and jelly bean. The menu was right after Mimi’s own heart.
She was outside unplugging the colored lights they’d strung around the three foot tall passionfruit and chicken liver crepe statue to make it “festive” when a familiar voice hailed her.
“Fancy meeting you here, my dear.”
There was only one person who talked to her like a mid-century film star, and that was Michael Barton. Mimi squealed, jumping straight up in her excitement and tripped over the cord of lights. Michael grabbed her before she could swan-dive onto the sidewalk.
“That happy to see me?”
“Michael!” She pressed his cheeks between her winter-pink fingers until he had fish lips. “What are you doing here! Why didn’t you tell me you were coming!”
“Then it wouldn’t be a surprise, would it?” he answered as best he could. “Wow, Mimi, your hands are so cold.”
She dropped them to her sides. “Well, sorry about that.”
He took one back and kissed it. “I didn’t say I minded.”
“Look who’s turned into Casanova.” She found herself blushing, a thing she didn’t often do, especially not because of Michael’s dated courtship techniques. Lately things between them had… kicked up a notch, though. Where before there had only been play and youthful flirting, now there was something more serious. More grown up. She hadn’t quite decided how she felt about it, but ready or not, there it was.
“Why did you think I pestered you for your work schedule last week? Let’s go celebrate. Drink champagne — you’re legal now, right? — stay up hideously late.”
“Not that I’m not ecstatic to see you, but I wish you’d told me. I kind of have plans.” She made a pouty face. Part of her did feel bad that he’d come all this way, from America, but… still. He should have warned her.
Michael seemed at a loss for a moment. “Oh, really? What plans?” he asked with a sheepish grin.
“Christmas party with my friends.”
“Ah, I see. Well, in that case I’ll go back to my hotel. Hopefully I can see you tomorrow?”
“Yeah, but — wait.” She grabbed his arms as he turned to shuffle off. “You can come with me!”
“Are you sure your friends won’t mind? I’m sure you haven’t planned for an extra mouth.”
“No, of course not, it’s just Taichi-san and the gang. And Taichi-san and Daisuke-kun are bottomless pits, so we tend to prepare more food than you’d think.”
“Ah. So you’re saying I should pick off their plates?”
“Trust me, it’ll feel like a buffet.”
They laughed, and Michael waited while Mimi finishing locking things up. Then they trudged shoulder-to-shoulder through the crisp Tokyo night.
~~~~~ (continued below)
The party was to be held at Taichi and Yamato’s apartment this year. After picking up Palmon and Betamon, Mimi and Michael headed straight over. Mimi rang the doorbell. Yamato answered. He took one look at them and let out a long groan.
“You’ve got to be kidding me, we’re already trying to cram twelve people in here and now you bring guests?”
“Just the one,” Mimi replied defensively.
Michael waved. “Hi, Yamato. Long time no see. Don’t worry, you can just perch me on top of the fridge. I’ll play the part of the Elf on the Shelf.”
Yamato shook his head, jerking a thumb over his shoulder. “Koushirou already took the fridge.”
“… What.”
“Don’t ask me. We —”
“Hey, who’s at the door?” Taichi suddenly materialized out of Yamato’s shadow, swinging an arm around his friend’s neck while he took a long gulp of something in a plastic cup. “Mimi-chan! And… Mitchell!”
“Michael.”
“Michael! Yeah yeah, I knew that! What’re you standing around here for? Is our welcome mat so interesting?”
Mimi and Michael glanced down. “There… isn’t a welcome mat,” Michael said slowly.
With a serious expression, Taichi nodded. “Exactly. Makes you pause for thought, doesn’t it?” He then thrust his cup into Michael’s hand. “Here you go. Stop being a wallflower and come inside. It’s like a clown car in here, watch out that you don’t end up with your nose in someone’s arm pit.”
“Taichi-san, what’s in this?” Mimi asked, peering into the cup while Michael took an experimental sniff.
“… Uh.” Taichi turned his head and yelled to someone in the kitchen area. “Miyako-chan! What’d you put in my cup!”
“Melon soda and Sprite and iced tea,” Miyako’s voice shouted back.
Taichi shrugged at them. “The brewmeister has spoken.”
“There’s no alcohol?” Michael asked.
“Nah, too many of us are still minors, so all refreshments are G-rated.” Yamato snorted at Taichi’s explanation. With a snigger, Taichi added: “’Course, later, when the babies go home, you can have a go at our private stash if you want.”
“Works for me.” Michael took a deep swallow of the mixture. He frowned thoughtfully, gazing into the depths of the cup, then let out a huge burp.
“Attractive,” Mimi deadpanned. “Just the kind of man I always dreamed of.” She snatched the cup out of his hand and wrinkled her nose in scrutiny. “Hmm… this needs gummy bears.”
Michael chuckled. “Whatever you say, toots.”
“What’s that?” Taichi asked. “Toots.”
“A terrible nickname,” Mimi sighed, sounding very put upon.
“A classic,” Michael objected.
“Oh my god, close the door!” Sora suddenly rammed through them and wrenched the door shut. “It’s like 0 degrees outside. Hi Mimi-chan, hi Michael. You two are gonna get it!” She boxed first Taichi, then Yamato about the ears.
“Hey, you all said we had to play host and invite people in!”
“Yeah, you never said anything about having to close the door!”
They ran off with Sora hot on their heels, leaving Michael and Mimi staring after them. After a pause, Michael said: “And here I thought you were the weird one of the group.”
“Who, me?”
~~~~~
Yamato’s less-than-warm-welcome was, after all, rather justified, Michael thought upon observing just tiny the apartment really was. A small living area, with an adjoining kitchenette, toilet, and bathroom that wouldn’t even have filled the entire hallway at his house in New York made up the party area. Decorations were sparse — a bit of crepe paper garland, a Snoopy doll wearing a Santa hat, and on the desk, a snowglobe that held a miniature of the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. (“I gave them that,” Mimi informed him proudly.) Yamato and Taichi’s bedroom had been cleaned and opened up to provide more space, as it was only separated from the living room by a pair of sliding doors. In order for all thirteen people plus Digimon to fit, they all had to cram in against the walls, and pick their way carefully through a designated walking lane down the middle whenever they had to get up.
“How do two people share rooms here?” Michael asked, somewhat in awe. He drew his long knees up to keep his toes out of the walking lane.
“Oh, it’s common in Japan. Besides, there’s usually more than just two,” Takeru supplied. “Aniki’s bandmates spend a lot of time here most days.”
“Yeah, and I get banished outside,” Taichi complained.
Yamato knocked his shoulder. “Not like you’re ever here anyway.”
“College keeping you busy?” Michael asked with a smile.
Shaking his head, Taichi started passing around a bowl of chips. “College is meh. Koushirou is the reason I never sleep anymore.”
“I think you sleep plenty,” Koushirou said. (He had, indeed, claimed the fridge. It was in the living room rather than out by the kitchenette, and he’d placed his portable router on top of it, drawn up the only chair Michael could see, and was sat there typing away on his laptop. According to him, “the wifi signal craps out if I set it up anywhere else.”)
Looking confused, Michael took the chip bowl as it came to him. “Why is that?” He glanced at Taichi, then at Koushirou, tapping intently on his keyboard. “Oh, I remember — you two are dating, aren’t you?”
Taichi’s expression didn’t change, but he flushed scarlet to the tips of his ears. But Koushirou didn’t appear to have heard him. There was a loaded break in conversation while Michael struggled to figure out if he’d said something wrong. Then Miyako could take it no longer.
“How was your flight, Michael?” she burst out.
“Uneventful. There was some terrific turbulence a couple hours over the Pacific, the lady next to me dropped her glass of —”
“Agumon!” Gabumon tore across the room to the snack table, where Agumon had sneaked up dangerously close to the Christmas cake. “That’s for later! Don’t be greedy!”
“But it smells ready!” Agumon whined.
“Dinner first.” Hikari smiled. “Or you’ll spoil your appetite.”
“No I won’t.”
That was probably true, but Hikari only made a shushing noise and ushered them away.
“Man,” Jou heaved a sigh. “I wish I could just jump on a plane any time I felt like it and go visit my girlfriend.”
“Your girlfriend lives down the road from you,” Yamato pointed out.
“Still, I get the feeling I spend less time with her than Mimi-kun does with Michael.”
Gomamon stopped munching on the chips long enough to say: “That’s because there are so many books in your place that your girlfriend can’t find the door.”
While Jou and Gomamon wrestled, and the others were occupied with egging them on, Michael seized his chance. With caution, taking care not to be noticed, he let his hand creep across the wood-paneled floor and into Mimi’s lap, and laced his fingers with hers. Mimi glanced at him quickly, the waves of her bright, thick hair bouncing. Then she smiled, and squeezed back.
Michael couldn’t help the wide grin that spread across his face. He didn’t know how long their eyes stayed locked, only that it was long enough for someone to notice, if they hadn’t all been occupied placing bets on who had a better chance at winning a thumb war, Jou or Gomamon. (“Hello, Gomamon doesn’t even have thumbs.” “Sure but still — the other player is Jou.”)
All except one — Sora. Whose warm brown gaze shifted over them as she stood in the opposite corner, sipping tea from a mug. Her brow raised, but when she lifted the mug he saw she was smiling.
~~~~~
The night wore on. Body heat and an electric space heater kept them warm (the apartment didn’t have an air conditioner and Taichi and Yamato claimed to be too cheap to buy one). There was some kind of hot pot for dinner that Yamato had made, to which Taichi had contributed rice, fried horse mackerel, and pickles as sides. It was a serious meal.
“Comes from so many of us being foodies,” Mimi told him.
And the food didn’t stop there. The Christmas cake was cut around eleven o’clock, Sora had brought delicate homemade matcha cookies, and Daisuke announced well after twelve that he’d also brought enough instant ramen for everyone to have a midnight snack. Of the humans, only he and Taichi ate any of it, but the Digimon were only too happy to keep right on eating.
Michael had hoped there would be mistletoe. He looked around but couldn’t find any. He decided to ask Hikari.
“Mistletoe?” She stared at him uncomprehending. Then — “Oh… the stuff that if you’re caught standing under it with another person, you have to kiss them? It’s not so popular in Japan.”
“Ah, I see.”
“Why did you want it? Do you need it to kiss Mimi-san?”
Michael’s cheeks reddened. “Well, I’d heard that people in Japan are more private about displays of affection — of course Mimi isn’t like that at all, not in New York anyway, but seeing as I’m a foreigner and guest here —”
Hikari laughed. It sounded like the tinkle of a wind chime. “Oh, you don’t have to be so careful among friends. Come on, Michael-san! Can’t you tell just by watching that we love a party?”
“Are — are you sure? I mean, I haven’t seen anyone else even holding hands, and I know a bunch of you are dating each other.”
“Yamato-san and Sora-san have been busy keeping the party running smoothly.” Hikari held up her fingers and started ticking off each couple as she spoke. “And before you got here, Daisuke-kun and Ken-kun were making out on Oniichan’s futon. To tell the truth, the only reason Takeru-kun and I weren’t in on the fun is because we feel awkward with our brothers around,” she added.
Oh, that was a good reason.
“Alright, I believe you. But what about Taichi and Koushirou? I felt like I made everyone awkward just by asking about them…”
“Well. The thing is, Oniichan and Koushirou work together — Digital World stuff. I don’t know about all of it. That’s what Oniichan meant when he said Koushirou-san keeps him busy. But as it happens…” She leaned in, dropping her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. “Oniichan asked Koushirou-san out a while ago, and he said yes. But the next time Oniichan mentioned it, Koushirou-san acted like he didn’t remember it happening. So things have been a little… strained, I guess? They still see each other every day, but I know Oniichan’s really confused, and wondering if Koushirou-san changed his mind and that’s why he won’t discuss it. So as of now they’ve never actually been on a date.”
“Oh — Mimi had made it sound like —”
“Yeah, I’m guessing Mimi-san got a little too over-excited. She tends to do that sometimes.”
Mmm, much as he loved her — “Yeah, she does.”
Something gleamed in Hikari’s eye. “Mistletoe wouldn’t be a bad idea. We don’t have any, but…”
She darted off. Somewhat bewildered, Michael started to stroll back to his corner with Mimi, only to find she was no longer there. There were very few places to hide, so he didn’t have to look long before he discovered her just about climbing over Ken while she strung some fallen garland around him. Daisuke was helping gleefully.
“Ah,” Michael coughed. “Do I want to know?”
“We’re decorating,” Mimi told him.
“Yes.” Daisuke nodded. “Isn’t Ken beautiful?”
Ken turned to Michael with a look of longsuffering. “I’m told I’m substituting for a Christmas tree.”
“We need a star for his head,” Mimi declared. Then she looked up at Michael, as if expecting him to produce one out of thin air.
Michael stared back at her. Perhaps long exposure had inured him to her many idiosyncrasies, or maybe she’d just matured over the years, but she didn’t often surprise him with her whims anymore. He couldn’t resist scanning the room in case any alcohol from Taichi and Yamato’s stash had been served without him noticing. “I, uh… here?”
He handed her his crumpled napkin.
Mimi’s face fell. “I’m sure Ken-kun doesn’t want your used napkin on his head.”
“It’s not used!” Michael waved his hands. “It’s not used,” he repeated to Ken, who bobbed his head reassuringly.
“Sora-san!” Mimi yelled. “We need a star for Ken!”
Sora made some reply, but Michael didn’t catch any of it but sheer exhaustion.
Mimi pouted. “Well, you’re no help.”
“Taichi-san!” Daisuke cried. “We need a star.”
Taichi pushed Yamato into his lap. Daisuke blinked down. “… I meant a star that could fit on Ken’s head.”
“TaichiImgonnamurderyou,” Yamato mumbled into his thigh.
“Are you sure there isn’t any alcohol here?” Michael whispered to Jou somewhat desperately. But he might as well not have spoken — Jou had fallen asleep with his face half-pressed against the balcony window, mouth slack and glasses askew, as several Digimon raced back and forth picking scraps off his forgotten plate.
Michael went back to his partner. “Betamon, am I having a good time?”
Betamon’s eyes shone as he looked up with his mouth full of cake. “Mmmphhggg!”
“Time for games!” Hikari announced, striding into the center of their cramped circle. Her hands were full of disposable wood chopsticks. “Let’s play Ousama Game!”
Suddenly Michael wished there was alcohol.
~~~~~
The clock struck one a.m. Everyone stared at their chopstick. In spite of the lack of heat in the room, more than one person was sweating.
“So…” Daisuke glanced around. “Who’s the first king?”
After a moment, Yamato sighed. His head dropped in his hand as he raised his chopstick.
Takeru whistled. “Nice going, big bro!”
“Shut up,” Yamato grouched.
Taichi smiled big. “What’s your command, my liege?”
Yamato seemed to think, though Michael got the impression he was more feeling sorry for himself than coming up with some great plan. “Number two and number six, finish your drinks.”
“Whaaaat,” Mimi whined. “That’s boring! Besides, all we’ve got is soft drinks!”
“When you’re the king, you can make the rules,” Yamato snapped back.
Shoulders drooping, Mimi took an unhappy glance at her cup and knocked it back. “Whatever, I’m number six.”
Koushirou said he was number two, and polished off his oolong tea without any fuss. The chopsticks were collected and drawn again. Michael laughed softly to himself, having drawn number five for the second time in a row.
“Ooooh, I’m the king!” Miyako said with excitement. “Let’s get things started! Numbers five and twelve have to kiss!”
Mimi let out a whoop. “Yeah, that’s my girl!”
“And not just a little peck on the cheek! I want to see passion!”
Ah. Now he understood Hikari’s plan, though so far it wasn’t working out quite how she’d hoped, Michael guessed. With an easygoing smile, he lifted his number five chopstick. “That’s me. Who’s the lucky number twelve?”
“That would be me.” It was Taichi who answered, laughing so hard he was barely coherent. “Oh man, Michael. I gotta apologize. My breath smells like fried fish.”
“Here.” Yamato passed him an Altoid. Taichi popped it in his mouth, then leaned forward, expressive lips puckered.
Unable to keep from grinning, Michael peeked at Mimi. She mimed dip-kissing the air. With that for encouragement, Michael put his hands on Taichi’s shoulders and kissed him full on the mouth. He heard a few of the girls cheer, and someone — Yamato, he thought — gave a hum of approval. Seeking to draw out their laughter, he kept going, climbing over Taichi until he was just about on top of him. Taichi didn’t seem to mind at all, in fact it felt as if he was shaking with silent laughter. One of his broad brown hands crept up Michael’s leg and squeezed his butt.
That sent the group into hysterics. Michael and Taichi finally broke away, both with silly grins and flushed cheeks.
“Welcome to Japan,” Taichi said when there was a break in the laughter. “What do you think of our traditional greeting?”
“Hmm, I’m not sure if I’ve mastered every nuance.” Michael frowned in mock disappointment. “Maybe we should keep practicing.”
“No, you will not.” Michael’s heart fluttered as Mimi inserted herself between his legs. She leaned towards him, breath tickling his nose. “That was fun and all, but now I’m jealous. If you plan to practice, practice with me.”
Mimi was so pretty. He never forgot how pretty she was. He’d thought so in junior high, when they’d first met, and the first seedlings of puppy love sprouted. And he’d thought so while she experimented with makeup, a new hairstyle and color every month, because she made everything seem so much fun that how could he help it?
In middle school she hadn’t taken his crush seriously. In high school she’d put off him strongly enough that he’d stopped asking, tried dating other girls. After all, he was good-lucking, and friendly, and the son of a famous actor — most girls were flattered if he paid them attention. To say Mimi’s rejection made him want her all the more would be a mischaracterization. Michael thought he was made of sterner stuff than that. It was just that he genuinely had more fun with her than with anyone else, and whenever he thought he’d got her out of his system, there’d she be again. And finally, their senior year of high school, she’d accepted his feelings and agreed to one date. The one turned into two, then three, and so on, until they found themselves celebrating their three year anniversary and unable to remember a time when it was different.
He loved her, and he thanked the heavens every day that she loved him back.
Mimi settled into his lap and drew his head down. Michael didn’t hesitate as their lips met. Her body molded against his, warm and melty, the fuzzy stuff of her sweater tickling his neck as her arms wrapped around his neck. Like he’d done so many times, he lost himself in the enticing pressure of her pink lips, her lashes butterfly soft against his jaw.
At last they parted, both breathing a little faster usual. She gazed back at him, and gave a little laugh.
He was thinking about something to say when Jou poked his arm and handed him a couple of chopsticks. “If you two are ready to join the rest of us,” Jou said with a wry smirk.
Red-faced, Michael took the chopsticks — eight and thirteen — and handed thirteen to Mimi. She seemed comfortable where she was, curling up against his chest as she inspected her number.
Iori was the new king. His decree was for numbers one and four to exchange socks for the duration of the game. This became entertaining when it turned out that one was Daisuke and four was Hikari, and Hikari’s powder blue cat-face socks in no way fit on Daisuke’s much larger feet. Hikari flat out refused to put on Daisuke’s, which were red and green and Christmassy, but more than anything smelly. They were instead draped over the TV set.
Next Ken drew king, and set numbers twelve and three (Takeru and Miyako) in a competition to see who could recite “Jugemu Jugemu” all the way through the fastest. Neither could remember all the words, so it ended in a draw.
Sora challenged numbers ten and eleven (Daisuke and Yamato) to name as many animals in English as they could. Yamato beat Daisuke soundly. Daisuke implored Michael for help, but perhaps having imbibed a bit too much of the social culture here, Michael responded: “Sorry, I like to watch you suffer.”
Daisuke got his chance for revenge the very next turn, savagely declaring, “Numbers seven has to give number two a piggyback ride!” But seven turned out to Taichi, and two was Hikari, so in the end it was a pretty poor attempt at vengeance.
They played a few more rounds, until most everyone had had a go at being king. Taichi held the record for taking the most commands. Only Mimi had yet to be King, so for the last round, it was decided that the king stick would go to her regardless. As the other chopsticks were being redistributed, Mimi stretched and climbed out of Michael’s lap, announcing that she had to take a bathroom break.
“You can’t wait until your turn is over?” Sora asked.
“I’ll be quick.”
She was, in fact, quick — too quick. How she’d had time to do anything more than open and close the bathroom door was anyone’s guess. Michael watched her with narrowed eyes as she made her return, visiting around the circle before she finally sat down next to him. There was a glint in her eye that spelled danger. But before Michael could quiz her, Mimi had picked up her king stick and straightened.
“Her royal highness Princess Mimi decrees —” She flourished the stick theatrically, leveling an imperious gaze on her gathered friends “— that numbers five and nine must kiss.”
Yamato stuck a finger in the air. “We already did that one. No repeats.”
“Since when?”
“Since now.”
Mimi’s lips scrunched to the side. “No, you can’t just make up rules.”
“Yamato, it’s cool.” Taichi covered up a yawn as he spoke. Many of the paty guests were flagging by this time, their Digimon partners already passed out in their laps. “I’m five. This is like, the eighty-fifth command I’ve got tonight. What’s one more kiss?”
Mimi smirked at Yamato in triumph. Yamato rolled his eyes. “Whatever.”
“Who’s nine?” Taichi asked, blinking sleepily around the group.
At first no one answered. Michael watched heads back and forth. Number nine did not come forth.
“Aw, come on.” Mimi stuck out her lower lip. “It’s the last round! Who’s going to give up in the last round?”
No one answered. A grin splitting his lips, Taichi scratched behind his ear. “I guess whoever’s number five really doesn’t want to kiss me,” he quipped.
“Me,” mumbled Koushirou.
It took a minute for it to register that he had spoken. Then they were all looking at him at once. “What’d you say?” Taichi asked, but already the heat was climbing in his face.
Slowly Koushirou raised his chopstick: number five. “It’s me.” His dark eyes were unreadable.
Taichi licked his chapped lips. “Y-You don’t have to. It’s just a game.” He gave an awkward laugh. “Right, Mimi-chan?”
Mimi looked like she might protest, so Michael put a placating hand on her knee. She peered up at him, and sighed. “Right,” she said reluctantly.
There were no doubts in Michael’s mind that Mimi’s “bathroom break” had been more about sneaking a peek at what numbers Taichi and Koushirou pulled so she could play matchmaker with her turn as king. For all her many wonderful qualities, she did have a penchant for meddling. At least, he thought, she did it mostly when she felt she could make all those involved happier, and not for vindictive purposes.
But Koushirou had yet to respond, and as the pause in the festivities stretched out longer, Taichi’s usual happy-go-lucky expression crumpled into disappointment, and then further into something like shame. He stood up, muttering something about putting the dishes in the sink.
“Koushirou,” he said before leaving, “don’t worry about it, ’kay? Honestly, it’s just a game, it’s not supposed to make you uncomfortable. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.”
He picked his way between Yamato and Sora to get to the door that led to the kitchen, and had just opened it when Koushirou found his voice:
“I want to.” Koushirou’s whole face was cherry red. He didn’t seem able to look anyone in the eye.
Taichi stared at him with a look like a dead fish. Koushirou raised his head, voice wavering but clearly mustering all his courage to repeat: “I want to.”
In an instant, Taichi grabbed him by the elbow and hauled him out into the hall, closing the door behind them.
Mimi turned to Michael, a smug look on her face. Michael did his best to look stern. “You shouldn’t have done that, missy.”
She had the gall to look offended. “Done what? Show them how stupid they’re both being?”
“Mimi-chan, you’re not supposed to know who has what numbers in this game,” Sora sighed. Clearly she’d noticed what Mimi was up to as well.
“Oh, like I’m the bad guy here! Haven’t we been watching them pine for each other for way too long?” Her arms flew up in a gesture of exasperation. “It’s like a soap opera! The kind where no one admits their feelings until someone’s lying half-dead on a gurney!”
“Mimi-kun,” Jou groaned.
“At least, this way, they finally have to talk it out, am I right?”
“The idea that those two will figure it out on their own does seem kinda hopeless,” Miyako put in with a shrug. Beside her, Daisuke and Takeru nodded in agreement.
Yamato pointed, rather rudely, in Mimi’s direction. “Do me a favor and don’t chase a career in relationship counseling.”
“Shortcake,” Agumon mumbled in his sleep.
After that the conversation turned to other things.
~~~~~
By the time everyone went home, it was three in the morning.
“Thanks for letting me join you guys.” Michael accepted the bag of leftover matcha cookies as he said his good-byes. “I had a lot of fun.”
“No problem,” Yamato said. “Sorry our party ruined your date night.”
“Oh, no.”
“Next year we should do something that’s actually Christmas-related,” Mimi suggested. Michael laughed.
Leaning against the door jamb, Yamato quirked his brow at her. “Like what?”
“I don’t know. Snowball fight?”
“Right, because it snows in December in Tokyo so often.”
“Well, baking cookies or… I don’t know, Michael, what’s a good Christmas activity?”
Michael blinked. “Uh… maybe Christmas carols?”
“Oh, that’s a good one! Yamato-san can play the guitar! And I can sing!”
“And the rest of us?” Sora asked, smiling.
“Eh, you can play the spoons.”
“I’ll spend next year practicing.”
Mimi grinned, and Michael tightened his grip around her shoulders. “Are Taichi-san and Koushirou-kun not going to come say good-bye?” Mimi asked.
“I’ll ask.” Yamato stuck his head into the adjacent room. “Mimi wants to know if you’re going to say good-bye.”
“Bye, Mimi,” Taichi’s voice shouted.
“See you,” Koushirou added. Neither seemed about to leave the position Mimi had last seen them, leaning side-bye-side against the fridge, Koushirou explaining some new MMORPG he was into and Taichi stealing every chance he could to plant kisses on the top of his head. She allowed herself a secret grin. Alright, so maybe her meddling had been out of line. But who was going to complain at this point?
Sora was planning to spend the night (chances were Koushirou would stay over too). Mimi and Michael were the last to leave, cradling Palmon and Betamon in their arms as their partners slept away. In the elevator, Michael bent over and kissed Mimi’s forehead.
“What was that for?” she asked, eyes sparkling.
He shrugged one shoulder. “Just because.”
“I like that reason.” They reached the first floor. “I’d return the sentiment but you’re rather taller than me.”
“Another time, then.”
“Tomorrow?”
“If you so desire.”
“I do so desire.” Her arms were full of Palmon so she couldn’t hold his hand, but she walked as closely as she could, bumping shoulders every other step. “I hope you had fun tonight.”
“Oh, I did. Your friends are a riot. And Betamon loved the chance to spend time with your partners.”
“I think he loved the food, mostly.”
“That too.”
The road they were on was well-lit with street lamps and fluorescent signs. Even at this hour, there were a fair number of cars rolling by. Michael wondered if Tokyo ever slept. New York City never got any true silence either, he reflected. Maybe, for that reason, he liked that he and Mimi could walk home together like this, not saying a word. Just being together.
They reached her apartment. “I’m not sure if I should invite you up,” she said. “Seems like a waste since you booked a hotel and all.”
“I’ll go to the hotel tonight. We can… talk tomorrow.” He chewed his lip a moment. “I noticed you guys didn’t exchange gifts.”
“Oh, yeah, we don’t do that so much on Christmas here.”
“Well, I brought you something, but I think I’ll give it to you tomorrow.” His heart thumped in his chest.
“Aw, you shouldn’t have! I don’t have anything for you.” She looked crestfallen for a half a second. Then she pumped her fist. “Come early tomorrow, I’ll make you breakfast!”
“Alright.” His throat felt dry. “Tomorrow, then.”
“It’s a date. Good-night, Michael.”
“Good-night, Mimi…”
Feelings of elation mixed with fear as he walked to the hotel alone. Love, he figured, was like that — the very height of emotion. More than any other earthly thing capable of creation or destruction and difficult to predict which. He fingered the little velvet box that had remained in his coat pocket all evening. Tomorrow — he’d wait until tomorrow. He’d wait a hundred years for love, and tomorrow, he’d make sure she knew it.
POST 23. Facilitation.
Tumblr media
If Last Kid Picked becomes a fully realised project an essential part of its work will be facilitation within the local community. I am a firm believer that artists at whatever level of success should take their experience and experiences back to the community that inspired them. You can read some information on my experience as a facilitator in the Mission Statement and Background post at the start/end of this blog (depending on how you view it)
I have also been trained in facilitation at Northumbria University by Dr Matt Hargrave. Prior to me taking up my degree Matt was actually a participant in one of my workshops for adults at Live Theatre. These workshops are around building and performing a short set of stand up comedy. I find it quite exciting to report that we will both soon work together creating a new workshop for local mental health charity The Recovery College. Matt is a highly experienced drama facilitator and much of what he taught me can now be found in a recent workshop I have been running with Live Theatre Youth Theatre. You can find a link to the event below.
https://www.live.org.uk/whats-on/standing
Below is a breakdown of the first of 6 workshop plans I conducted with the youth theatre at Live.
WORKSHOP 1. YOUTH THEATRE 2019.
1. WARM UP AND INTRODUCTIONS.
NAMES CIRCLE.
1. Tell group your name and a same initial of something you like. (I’m John I like Joining In.)
2. Go around again and add a physical action.
3. Now go around a final time with each person adding who came before them until the final person (me) has to do the entire group.
STAND UP EXPLORES WHO WE ARE. QUICK DISCUSSION.
Tell us about your name, does it have a history, are you named after, does your name have another meaning. Do you have a nickname, what does it mean, how did it come about?
SOME PHYSICAL WARM UP.
Group circle and keeping a (soft) ball in the air. Every time we drop it we applaud and cheer so no sense of failing. Try to get to a count of 3…see if we can get all the way to ten or twenty.
Ten Second Objects (Let’s get our imaginations going)
Split into small groups (hopefully of 4) Call out the name of an object and all the groups have to make the shape of that object out of their own bodies, joining together in different ways while you count down slowly from ten to zero. Usually every group will find a different way of forming the object. Examples could be: a car, a fried breakfast, a clock, a washing machine, a fire.
 LETS TALK ABOUT STAND UP COMEDY or COMEDY IN GENERAL- Group discussion.
Who and what do you like in comedy. Go around group.
Do you watch comedy, have you seen it live, what do you watch on T.V.
Why do we laugh?
What don’t you like in comedy?
Is it possible to tell a joke that doesn’t have a target or a victim?
FIRST GROUP WRITING EXERCISE.
A big misconception about stand up is that we are constantly poking fun at things. Not so. What we mainly do is question the way of things. But above all we CELEBRATE the absurdity of life.
Questioning the world and yourself is at the heart of stand-up comedy.
Note to group. Nothing we create in these first few weeks has to be funny. We are building the foundations of how to get ideas started.
Split into two or three small groups. Make a list of what you LOVE. 10 is great 20 is awesome.
Now go back and make a list of things you don’t like that wind you up or just generally hate.
EMPATHY. (A big part of stand up)
I’ll now read out some of our findings to the group and ask them to position themselves in the room according to how much they agree with what we have. Left of the room strongly agree. Right of the room strongly disagree. Middle of the room neither here nor there. And covering all varying degrees in-between.
FINISH WITH A MORE THOROUGH GROUP DISCUSION OF OUR LISTS. (Laughter may start here. Point out to group they’ve already begun making comedy)
GROUP EXERCISE 2. NARRATIVE GAME. THE TRUTH (And faking it)
Comedy is all about the truth. If you can fake that you’ve got it made. Comedians are born exaggerators and fibbers. Let’s see if we can tap into that!
Again split into small groups (may even do this in pairs) One person in each sub-group needs to remember a true story that happened to them. It might be some thing involving a minor misdemeanour which they committed as a child. They tell that story to their sub-group so that each listener can adopt it as his or her own - and tell it as if it were their own story. Then everyone comes together and one team is invited into a stage area. Everyone in that team - in turn - tells the story as if it happened to them personally. Of course only one person is telling the truth. And it’s the task of the audience to find who the truth-teller is.
(I may or may not extend on this depending on time)
Extension:
The facilitator can ask the audience if they would like to ask any of the story-tellers questions about their story, about events or characters in it. Variation: The group divides into two sub-groups. One half is a group of detectives. The other is a group of friends, one of whom has committed a theft, for example from a shop. The friends all learn the true story. Then they each take a chair and go to a different part of the room where they sit down. The detectives have to investigate by moving round and questioning the suspects. Each suspect claims they stole the item. In other words, they all ‘confess’. Afterwards, the detectives go into a huddle and decide who they think is the guilty party.
 GROUP EXERCISE 3.
QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS…An introduction to being an excellent fool.
We all act the fool at times. It’s fun. Being a fool with friends produces laughter and empathy. Asking daft questions about things and being deliberately daft can lead to you being the most popular person in the room. Yes you’re a fool….BUT YOU’RE THE FOOL IN CHARGE!
First discuss these ideas as a group. Then pick one each to perform/explain to the rest of us. THESE DO NOT HAVE TO BE FUNNY. THIS IS ABOUT SPARKING OUR IMAGINATION.
1. Things not to say in class or to a teacher.
2. The worst way you can explain you are from outer space.
3. The wrong way to tell a small child a pet has died.
4. A very bad description of a very famous film or T.V. show.
5. The wrong way to explain you are from outer space.
6. Explain flower arranging or knitting or the rules to a sport…but like a Dalek.
7. Badly explain different colours to somebody who can only see in black and white.
8. Things not to say to your new girlfriend, boyfriend’s parents (Note you will be performing in front of children so please keep all suggestions CLEAN!)
9. You are a superhero with rubbish super powers. Tell us about them.
10. You are the world’s worst poet. Write us a quick short poem.
SECTION 3. LET’S PERFORM.
I’ll request a microphone and stand to be set up. Estelle will perform some of her stand up for us. I may do a wee bit. I will have asked the group to bring a short quick joke and a longer joke that they can copy from the internet or have heard before or seen a comedian do. (THIS IS NOT HOW WE WILL DEVELOP MATERIAL. I just want folk to feel comfy when first getting up.) Then each in turn will.
1. Introduce themselves and go back to telling us about their name.
2. Tell us a quick joke.
3. Tell us a longer joke.
WIND UP AND PERHAPS SUGGEST SOME IDEAS TO WORK ON FOR NEXT SESSION.
Trailer | Pt. 1
Tumblr media
For the rest of the day, you stayed clear of the group of delinquents, especially Namjoon. The day was over as you had finished attending all your classes, so you started to make your way home. As you walked, your thoughts took you to dark places, filled with your problems of life. You began thinking about your family. Your childhood wasn’t exactly a bright and happy one, as it should’ve been. Your parents were harsh on you from the very beginning, controlling your life as if it wasn’t even your own. You even became a little depressed at one stage. Sure, you made some mistakes, but your parents never let you forget them.
They were always yelling. Constantly fighting. They could never talk out their differences. And whenever it came to you, they just told you to keep studying. Start a money-making career. Get married, and pray you don’t fall into a relationship like theirs. Both of their careers kept them busy. You were also pretty sure they had, at least once, slept with someone else. They just didn’t love each other anymore.
So growing up, your life was completely study orientated. You barely went to any social events during high school, which left you with very little friends. There was this cold nature you had built towards your parents, who had taken away any fun that you could’ve had during your childhood. Even still, now old enough to make your own decisions, your parents controlled your life.
They always gave you crap for not studying hard enough and not being the perfect daughter. Sometimes, you didn’t feel appreciated at all.
You couldn’t see anything ahead in your future. You didn’t know what you were working towards. All you knew was that you liked art. Loved it actually. You were obsessed with it. But that could never be an option.
You saw your street approaching, but stopped. You didn’t want to head inside just yet. Your parents wouldn’t be home for another hour and a half. So, you decided to take a detour around a few blocks.
Your mind wandered to a certain group of boys. You questioned what they wanted to do with their lives. All they seemed to do was create mess and destruction, not giving a damn. You realised you hardly knew anything about any of them, even though the entire school seemed to think so. What was their family like? How on earth did they even tolerate them? What did they do besides occasionally attending classes? How did they come to all meet and know each other? So many questions…
They sure were an interesting bunch, you thought.
You soon found yourself winding through alleys, where the brick walls were covered in illegal street art. You stopped to stare at some, admiring the different styles of artwork and the different stories they told. You’d always wanted to try spray painting yourself, only used to using your precious water colour paints and array of pencils. But it was vandalism, a crime. You couldn’t dare risk it.
The sun was beginning to set and you realised that you had been outside for a long time. But before you decided to head home, you stopped by a mural and began to admire it. After a few seconds, you heard a cough, along with spraying of a spray can. Curious, you peered around the corner, discovering none other than V, another delinquent.
V. Yes, that was his name.
He took a sip from a bottle of liquor and continued to spray some paint on the wall, looking incredibly concentrated on what he was doing. As if he sensed your presence, he turned to spot you lurking in the corner. You must of looking like a creep, because he suddenly got into a defensive posture.
“Who are you?”
“Uh… I go to the same university as you. Um, I was just walking home. I’ll pretend I didn’t see anything, I promise,” you said quickly, suddenly feeling really awkward. You probably looked really amusing to him, because he suddenly smiled and let out a chuckle.
Wow, he has a really unique smile.
God, Y/N. You’re so embarrassing.
“Hey, I think I’ve seen you around campus before. You look familiar. Aren’t you like, super smart?”
All of a sudden, you felt slightly at ease. The tone of his voice was playful and friendly, and you wondered how he could be friends with someone like Namjoon or Yoongi. Maybe there really was a whole lot you didn’t understand, just like everyone else, because right then, he looked like the most innocent kid you’d ever seen. Well, besides the liquor bottle and spray can he was holding.
“Um… I don’t know… I guess I just study a lot. Uh, I’m Y/N. You’re V, right?”
He shook the spray paint bottle a couple of times before gesturing towards you.
“Yeah, I am. Have you ever done this before?”
“Me? Never.”
He smirked, and said, “Wanna give it a try?”
You hesitated. You wanted to. Really bad. Maybe this is what you needed. A little rebellion. A fresh change in your normal and boring routine. However, you still paused. He sensed your hesitation. Sure, he was nice and all, but you just met the guy and didn’t completely trust him. He could tell. He sighed, lowering the bottle, and stared up at the wall.
“Taehyung.”
“Pardon?”
He faced you again. “My real name is Kim Taehyung.”
You looked up at him, surprised.
“V is just a nickname, of course. I’ve had it for a long time, so it kind of stuck.” He raised an eyebrow at you and said, “You sure you won’t give it a go?”
I really want to. Gosh, do I want to. But…
Ahhh, screw it.
You walked up to him and slowly took the can out of his hand. No going back now.
He smiled at you, with a tinge of pride. You weren’t sure if this was something to be proud of.
“Wait. I don’t know what to paint,” you realised. He looked down at you. The height difference was quite significant. He said, “Paint what first comes to mind then. It can be anything. There are no limits here.”
You thought about your parents. And suddenly an idea sprung.
You looked up at the wall in determination. Without any more hesitations or mental restraints, you raised your hand to shake the can and sprayed the first bit of paint onto the brick wall. It took you some time, your strokes were slow at first. But then your emotions took over, and your gentle strokes turned into rough streaks of messy paint. Meanwhile, Taehyung stood back, taking chugs from his bottle, and watched your first piece unfold. You were left with an image, one that spoke levels to you.
It was a girl, just like you, with her hair being pulled back by two pairs of hands. However, she was unable to speak, with a piece of tape covering her mouth.
“That is something…” Taehyung spoke softly. You hummed in response.
“It’s missing something, though,” you said.
“Like what?” You stood, tracing every stroke with your eyes until finally taking in the entire piece as a whole. You stepped forward, and underneath, in messy letters, spelled out your main message.
‘Let me breath.’
“Let me breath? What does that mean?”
“It means exactly what it says,” you replied.
Taehyung looked down at you with an unreadable expression. In his eyes, you saw something deep, like a connection was forming between the two of you.
“You’re quite an interesting person, you know,” Taehyung said with an enlightened voice.
“You’re quite surprising yourself,” you chuckled. Taehyung smirked playfully, stretching out his hand to offer you his drink. Before you could even consider accepting his offer, a voice behind you yelled out.
“Hey! You two!”
Taehyung grabbed your upper arm and pulled, his eyes wide looking over your shoulder.
“Quick! RUN!”
It was a police officer. Well, fuck.
A sudden burst of fear and adrenaline ran through your body as you quickly followed Taehyung, who was running as fast as he could. You were definitely screwed.
This was such a shitty idea.
He lead the two of you out of the alleyway and started heading to the edge of town. It was almost dark outside now and you could feel the cold air grasping your cheeks. The officer was chasing after you, but you were slowly losing him. You didn’t dare look back.
You reached a junk yard, or at least that’s what it looked like, with old train carriages that hadn’t been used in a long time dumped all over the place. It looked empty and deserted, but there was a fence blocking your way.
“Hurry! We’ll lose him in there! We gotta climb over this!”
“Wait, what?!”
“Quickly!” You mustered up your courage and started climbing the fence with shaking hands. Taehyung jumped off on the other side as soon as he reached the top, but you took a little longer climbing down. It went all too fast for your brain to keep up. Taehyung grabbed your upper arm again and pulled you alongside him to hide between different carriages. It became a maze, taking turns everywhere, trying to get the officer off your trail.
“I think he’s gone.” You both stood still for a moment, holding your breaths to listen for any other signs of movement. The only sound that could be heard was the distant roaring of cars and your heavy breathing. You looked around, realising the sky was much darker now, and you could barely make out what was there a few feet in front of you.
You felt on edge once again because you had no idea where you were and you were with a guy you barely knew. A sense of panic built within you as you realised your parents were probably worried sick.
“Taehyung, I really think I should head home.” He looked at you with a disappointed face.
“But the night’s only just beginning. Don’t you want to have some fun?” He said in a playful tone. Didn’t he have a home to get to? Is this what he did everyday after school? Get chased by cops and drink liquor?
“I don’t know… My parents are probably freaking out. I should really go home,” you lied. Your parents probably didn’t care too much, too busy yelling at each other.
He thought about this for a minute and then said, “Before you go, can I show you something?”
“Show me what?” He grinned.
“You’ll see. C’mon.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but he had already decided for you and cut you off by pulling on your jacket. Together, you walked down the train tracks, following his footsteps. In the distance, you could see an orange glow that caught your eyes.
“A bonfire?”
He didn’t reply and kept walking, pulling you along with him. You started to hear people talking, laughing even. You had a feeling you knew who it was and you prayed it wasn’t. You could see a makeshift shed next to the fire and then saw faces surrounding the small fire.
Of course.
“Hey, I’m here! And I bought a friend with me!”
The six faces all looked up at you and Taehyung. You gulped, really nervous once more, your eyes scanning each expression. First finding Jimin, who looked at you with a cheeky grin and then gave you a wink. Hoseok was next to him, another member of their group, who just looked up confused. Jin didn’t even lift his head, too entranced by a small polaroid in his hand. Jungkook had a look of wonder and curiousity on his face, however Yoongi, who was sat next to him, just looked bored. But he stared at you, and you could see a hint of curiousity in his eyes. Namjoon looked like he wanted to say something, his eyes glaring into you.
“Yah, V! You can’t just bring strangers here! This is our place! What if more people find out?” Namjoon said, clearly pissed off. His glare turned to you once again. “And, you. How dare you come here-”
“Hyung, it isn’t her fault...” Taehyung explained. “We were spray painting together and then a cop caught us, so we ran and I brought her over here...”
“You two were spray painting together?” A voice you didn’t expect to hear spoke. Yoongi looked curiously between the two of you and you flushed.
For what specific reason, you did not know.
You felt awkward standing there, and so desperately wanted to just crawl and disappear into a hole. You probably looked like it as well. As if sensing this, Yoongi walked up to you from his position on an old looking couch, his distance a bit too close for comfort, and said, “I told you not to bother us again. Go home.”
Gladly. Except, I don’t know where I am or how to get out of this dump. Oh, not to mention it’s dark out and I was just being chased by a fucking cop. Also, nothing wrong with the fact that this place is probably infested with creepy men who wouldn’t think twice about taking advantage of a poor girl like me. No major problem here.
You didn’t know what to say or do. How could so much happen in just one day? Your brain and body could not keep up. You were tired, scared, annoyed, and in desperate need of a shower. It dawned on you that you just committed a crime. My first act of rebellion. You weren’t sure if this was a moment to be proud of.
“Hyung, don’t you think it’s a little unsafe for a girl to be walking home alone at night, in this place?” You looked behind you to see Jimin with a worried expression on his face. Worried for me?
But you didn’t want to spend more time with either of them. “It’s okay. My house isn’t far,” you lied. I can walk myself. Sorry for intruding.” You gave a quick bow and started walking away from them.
“Wait, Y/N. I don’t think that’s a good idea...” Taehyung frowned, not pleased that you were leaving so quickly and that you were going alone. But what else could you do? First of all, you were clearly not welcome. Second, your parents were waiting for you, and oh god, what were they going to say about this? Plus, you were tired as hell. So you saw it in your best interest to leave.
“No, it’s fine. Really.”
You turned to make your way home, leaving them staring at you from behind. Sighing in frustration, you took your anger out by kicking a rock. You just wanted to go home and make a quick sketch. It had been too long since you’d drawn something. After your graffiti incident with Taehyung, you really wanted to start painting again. Was that so much to ask for?
Looking ahead, you tried to map out in your head where you were and where that spot where you climbed over the fence was. Realising that was impossible, especially with the night beginning to settle in, you took a few turns that looked like they would lead you out.
A pair of footsteps brought you out of your frantic thoughts. You flipped around, suspecting someone was following you. But when you turned to look, the footsteps went quiet and you couldn’t see anything.
I swear it’s my imagination.
But once the footsteps started again, you knew it wasn’t.
Oh great, just great. I’m fucked.
O Brother, Who Art Thou?
Its always nice to spend time with family, and the recent Memorial Day Weekend afforded us that opportunity. When families get together, it’s an occasion to see how much we are alike, and how much we are so different.
For example, a group of my nieces, nephews, assorted partners and friends played two drinking games at a nearby table: Thumper and BUZZ. They were so loud and obnoxious, if I had access to a firehose I would broke them up like a prison riot. I’m sure when I was their age, we played the same games but with quiet whispers and respect for our neighbors.
With that said, I would like to formally apologize to the woman who lived next door to our summer shore house in Seaside, 1979. I’m sure she lived a very nice, peaceful existence until we showed up. Just a group obnoxious, loud, assholes who played Thumper and Buzz five feet from her window, leaving dead soldiers (her name for empty beer bottles) literally on her doorstep. Even with her obvious agitation of us, she would often say, ‘I am praying for you boys’. In our gratitude we nicknamed her, ‘Sister Rose from The Church of the Perpetual Sorrow’.
We really were assholes.
Forty years later, to a spirit long gone, I offer a heartfelt apology.
Besides the assholery of youth, another difference showed itself the morning after Memorial Day.
While at breakfast, my brother Joe asked me if I would help him pick up some beds a friend gave him. Sure, no problem, how far of a ride is it, I asked.
“Ten minutes,” he said between bites of food. My sister, who sat beside us, cleared her throat.
“Closer to fifteen,” my brother amended. A glance between the two of them revised it once more.
“Worse case scenery, twenty.”
Later, during the forty-five-minute ride to pick up the beds, I noticed a few more differences. His Ford pickup was a far cry from my Toyota Corolla, a car he original forbade me to park near his house because it wasn’t American made. Only after I told him it was a used car, and no foreign companies benefited from my purchase, was I allowed back on the block. In the cab of his truck I wore my brown Skechers, six-pocketed Docker Shorts, and Izod-emblazoned collared shirt. He wore work pants and a t-shirt with a bald eagle on the front, an American flag clutched in its talons; the eagle also wore an American flag t-shirt. From his belt hung a six-inch knife, a blade he could use to perform a life-saving tracheotomy or free a baby bird entangled in litter found on the side of the road.
The only thing that hung from my belt was the shame that it was buckled in the first hole of the leather.
Windows down since he had no air conditioner, the American flag that hung in the back of the cab, agitated by the wind, repeatedly smacked me on the back of the head like I was a communist.
As we drove, my brother periodically picked up a green bottle labeled ‘Fish Oil’ from the dashboard, and spit tobacco juice into the already half-filled container. I chewed tobacco once in my life, and that was enough for me.
Years ago, as my brother sat in the car in the parking lot of the Browntown Shopping Center, I naively walked into a store and asked the clerk for chewing tobacco. Times were simpler then, all I had to do was point out into the parking lot at some random car and tell him my dad sent me in. Fifteen minutes later we were home, my brother and I climbed out the bedroom window, Tom Sawyer style, sat on the roof of the garage, and bit off a chew.
Seconds later, I turned green and threw up over the side of the house.
My brother had a different reaction, obviously, since some forty-plus years later, we sat in his truck as he spouted like a fountain into a plastic bottle.
It didn’t take a long, unexpected drive with my brother to point out the differences between us. They have always been there.
A few years ago, while a group of us sat in the kitchen, my brother stuck his head in the door and commanded “Come with me”. Instinctively, I stood up, but I was immediately dismissed.
“Danny, you come with me.” My son Danny stood and, without words, followed his uncle out the door. A few minutes later the pair emerged from the house and walked to the back yard. Danny’s arms filled with shotguns, boxes of shells, and noise-cancelling earmuffs.
As they set up an impromptu firing range, my nephew Christopher turned to me, smiled, and said, “That’s nice, Danny always needed a father figure”.
My brother is gruff and has an opinion on everything; it must be exhausting for him to always be right. At times, when introduced to people who know my brother, it is often with the caveat, “Don’t worry, he’s nothing like Joe”.
Which leads me to two questions.
One: Which one of us was adopted?
Two: Sometimes, I wonder, is it all an act? Sure, there is that personality in him, but over the years, did he exaggerate it because that is what we expect of him? Or maybe, when all is said and done, at the end of the day, my brother goes home and slips off this gruff persona? With the façade gone, he pours himself a nice glass of white Zinfandel, sits by the fire, puts his feet up on the ottoman, and picks up and reads his well-worn copy of, “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret”
The world may never know…
