Stardew Valley Employment Headcanons
I've been thinking a lot about how many folks in the Valley don't work. In some ways, it feels realistic. A small town that is clearly dying until the Farmer comes along struggles with unemployment rates. It could be related to high taxes (*side-eyes* I'm looking at you, Lewis) and competitive megacorporations (like Joja) undermining the local economy. However, I'd like to do a little headcanon for the residents and their job situation.
Under spoilers, because TL;DR.
Abigail - after graduating with a degree in art history, Abigail starts working out in her mother's fitness group. She starts swimming at the spa. And she starts a workout regiment with Alex. Of course, this leads her to finally join the Adventure Guild full-time, protecting the Valley and exploring the depths of the mines. She still jams from time to time with Sam and Seb. I also like to think she leads a local Scouts troop.
Alex - this man deserves to have an amazing job as a pro gridball player. However, while he waits, he could coach a local kids team at the Community Center. I can also see him work part-time stocking shelves at Pierre's General Store. Maybe he lifeguards at the Ginger Island Beach during the busy season or drives deliveries out to Sandy in the desert for Pierre. Or he could work with Robin. Mmm... this man, chopping wood... fantasies. He still sells ice cream in the summertime maybe on the weekends or at festival days (because come on, Pierre needs a little competition and I love the idea of pineapple ice cream at the luau and stardrop sorbet at the moonlit jelly fest). I also see him doing odd jobs around the valley until he gets more stable work at Pierre's or Robin's. Need someone to fix your leaky roof? Alex is your man! (Because Evelyn mentions George can't do it anymore).
Elliott - I still like the idea of Elliott's secret wealth and he escaped his family to become a writer. However, maybe he regularly submits poems and sonnets via various contests online under a pseudonym, and does a few freelance articles (maybe on small towns, fishing, romance, etc.). This man deserves to publish a masterpiece and make it on a bestseller list, then gets an agent, and of course, publishes a series. He still does readings in the Valley at the library and the Saloon because he always wants to remember his humble roots and the people who cheered him on when he was a nobody in the business.
Emily - She absolutely needs to start a side-business as the town tailor. It's kind-of already in the lore, but I could see her starting up an online business (maybe with the help of Seb) on an Etsy-esque site. Also, I can see her helping out on the farm for a little something extra when she's not working at the Saloon. Maybe tending to the flowers, watering plants when the Farmer is in the Mines or off on the island or in the desert for the day. She mentions she would like to do this, but Gus apparently frowns on a side job. Hmm... well, I can see this girl eventually leaving her job at the Saloon to pursue her sewing passion full-time. She totally hosts a yoga class in the winter at the Community Center.
Harvey - He is already a well-respected town doctor, but the man is so stressed that he is hardly ever in the Clinic (at least not without mods). I propose Harvey hires some extra help, an associate, maybe another nurse, and a receptionist to assist, especially if patients from surrounding towns (like he mentions) start visiting (i.e. expansions). And he teaches first aid classes at the Community Center.
Haley - Like Leah, she needs an art exhibit to showcase her photography. Unlike the other villagers, I don't see her staying in the Valley, eventually pursuing the work of a freelance photographer and traveling the world (like her absentee parents). She does make an annual trip back for the Flower Dance, her favorite festival. I have pursued Haley the least in game so I'm struggling to come up with more ideas here.
Leah - Speaking of Leah, she transforms the Valley into a premier art destination. She can teach art classes at the renovated Community Center. She teams up with Seb and Sam (and drags Elliott along for the ride, and the writing) to produce an avant-garde film about the art all around us in small towns. I also think she grows her own herbs and sells them at Pierre's, festivals, and the Farmer's Markets (as she gives me green witch vibes). Maybe she partners with Caroline (or the Wizard) to create some herbal potions and creams. And of course, she's still at it with woodworking, though these days she works on commission for those types of projects.
Sam - This man deserves to be a rock star. And I think he'd make a great solo artist. However, if his guitarist dreams don't pan out, he has options. In the vanilla game, he starts working with Gunther at the museum after JojaMart closes. It's a strange choice, but... I figure, maybe he minored in anthropology in college. He would absolutely give amazing tours of the museum, full of exuberant commentary, perfect for kids field trip days too. And I think he plays gigs in Zuzu City and at the Saloon regularly, and maybe even out at Sophia's winery (Stardew Valley Expanded).
Maru - Nursing just doesn't really seem to fit this woman of multiple interests. She finally pursues her passion of robotics and goes to work in a proper lab in a nearby City (doesn't have to be Zuzu - my headcanon is Pine-Mesa City or Grampleton from Stardew Valley Expanded). I think she makes regular trips to the Planetarium too. I could see her visiting the Valley on long weekends, and maybe taking the local kids club on a night-time stargazing event in the summer.
Sebastian - Please give this man a proper window in his basement, Robin! Okay, if he doesn't marry the Farmer, Seb moves out anyway and goes to live in the City for a while, to find investors for his indie game studio. In the meantime, he continues to do freelance programming work. And then, one day, he makes a breakthrough game that revolutionizes the industry. After making A LOT of money, he invests in a SAVE-THE-FROGS campaign, hires multiple developers and other staff, and starts working on his next big game. But he still makes time to jam with Sam and Abi from time to time, and of course, take long rides on his motorcycle.
Penny - This poor woman needs some love. Penny pursues her higher education and officially receives her teaching license. She is hired by the local school district so she can do more than just tutor. She can finally afford her own little apartment. She starts a kids club in the Community Center, and creates a summer reading program at the Stardew Library. And I like to think she takes a monthly trip to Zuzu City to shop in a big bookstore for fresh reading material when she has some down time.
Shane - Oh this guy is definitely a mess. If you don't "romance" him in game, he doesn't really turn his life around, and even if he does, it doesn't really point to recovery as it should, imo (without the help of mods). This man hates his job, and yet he feels stuck. I propose the following. After he recovers in therapy, completes rehab, and genuinely quits drinking (forever), and of course, loses his job at Joja (suck it, Morris!), Shane starts working at Marnie's shop and contracts out as a farmhand all around the Valley. Then he can be a proper godfather to Jas, and provide some actual service at the Ranch (when Marnie's off doing who knows what with you know who...)
I have thoughts for the other Villagers in the Valley too, but I'll save those for a different post.

Hello all. In case you've been unaware, recently tumblr has begun rolling out a partnership with Midjourney to scrape the entire website and its users' posts for their AI training. This includes peoples art, and probably also writing and photography. Anything you've posted the company may use for training, and you are opted IN by default.
Obviously this blog has been inactive for quite a while now, and no new art has been or will be posted here, but this puts me in a difficult position. I'm not sure exactly what I'm gonna do with this blog from here on. Some people have recommended editing posts to put a glaze filter over old art so that it's unusable, but I have many hundreds of posts, not all of which are tagged, and I'm unsure whether the AI training has already gotten a hold of them or not, making the potential filter useless. Not to mention the reblogs that already exist of the old un-glazed artwork.
I considered deleting everything, maybe even the blog itself, but that idea...sucks. I like the idea and the feeling that though I'm not active, my art is still out in the fandom tags somewhere, and that I have had an effect on the fandoms I was in and shared my art with. And again, the reblogs still exist, so I'm not sure what that would mean in terms of AI scraping. My worry is that deleting my blog would only relinquish any control I do have of what is done with my art.
As it is I'm kind of at a standstill. I was recently thinking over sharing my art again on other blogs, since I do miss being a part of that creative space. But now this change has kind of crushed that idea entirely. All this, plus the extreme transmisogyny apocalypse happening on here in the last month, and the seeming silencing of important movement tags like palestine, it really makes me want to ditch tumblr altogether. I've seen many people considering switching platforms. There's been a lot of markiplier mutuals specifically who have encouraged me to join cohost, I also have seen pillowfort as an option for others. But those platforms are new, kind of janky and will be hard to get used to for me. Plus, idk if I'm using them wrong but there's like...11 posts in each tag that I've seen so far, which kind of kills the feeling of being a part of a big open fan community I really love. Cohost seems like a nice platform, but if only 30-35 people move over, then it's really going to be a moot point. I wanna be where everyone else in the fandom is. I worry that this mass migration will only splinter communities, as we're all going to different places. I don't want to make 500 accounts on different platforms just to stay active and feel aware in the community.
My entire online social life up to this point has basically been on tumblr, I have a lot of blogs with a LOT of memories attached to them, and it would hurt to just drop them and move away.
Overall I'm at a loss. I enjoy sharing my work, my ideas and thoughts, I like being a part of these creative communities. But it seems like everyday the online space becomes more and more hostile toward creatives and fans, and much more advertiser friendly. One thing i never ever wanted to happen was for my art to be used for AI, and I naively thought that tumblr would be safe in that way. Guess not. I sometimes wonder if eventually all large social media will crash down and The People will dedicate to going back to personal websites and forums. I would enjoy a space where I could share my art on my own terms, and not have other peoples interaction with it overshadow everything else.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. For now I will be staying on tumblr until I figure it out, but definitely no more posting creatively. I want to try to keep my work up if I can. I would recommend on all your blogs going to settings and toggling ON "prevent third-party sharing for this blog", as that will let tumblr know you wish your work, including reblogs of it to be excluded from the scraping. I'm unsure how actually useful this will be, or how much the company will respect these wishes but. It's there. I would also love for you to come talk with me @boobookiss and, hey, maybe make a cohost account. I'm on there as boobookiss as well. I hope to keep touch with you all and see this little community stay together.

I saw your post about how lolita fashion (and ads for it) have changed in the last few years, especially for Angelic Pretty, and I agree completely!
I think the lack of creative ads these days might be b/c Gothic & Lolita Bible isn't around anymore? (cries) and Kera went purely digital ages ago, I don't know if it's even still around (I should have kept my old Kera magazines). But I remember how I always used to look forward to seeing the clothes and layouts that were featured in the new issues of each magazine.
My favorite when I first got into lolita was from the Wedding issue of the English edition of GLB; a model for Baby was wearing a lovely, tulip print skirt (or was it the jsk?) in blue, holding a parasol and sitting at a cafe table. Something about her looked so sweet and simple; I wanted to be a lolita just like that!
The models in the magazines always looked like they were happy or having fun, which I think is part of what made me want certain dresses or blouses. In AP's current ads, the model just looks... kinda sad and pouty and bored. I've noticed that for a lot of their dresses, they've been skimping on the lace, frills, and ribbons, and there's no more cute hair styles either! Meanwhile, wasn't it AP that brought lolita from old school to New School / OTT sweet when they had models wearing pastel pink / blue wigs for their Mermaid Symphony (iirc) photoshoot back in 2007?
On a different, but kinda related note, I've noticed that in the past 5 years or so AP has been making a lot of dresses with ridiculously high waists.... also so many sack dresses (I know they started doing this back in like 2012 or so with that polka-dot M&M print dress)

i'm always glad to have some feedback when i post rambles and thoughts on things. i never expect it, so thank you for your input! it's also comforting to know others feel the same way.
i agree that without as many publications in general (especially physical) there's less of a reason to put as much effort into details, like the magazine spreads that were commonly done for example. most people get information on releases online these days, making physical catalogs a bit obsolete.. aside from collectors. i greatly miss all of the graphics and how inspirational everything felt back then, especially the little PNG pictures of items in catalogs.
you're completely right about pictures from GLB's and other magazines looking generally "happier" and more like daily life sort of pictures, like the one in the cafe you mention. that aspect of it appealed greatly to lifestyle lolitas! seeing a dress pictured in a "real life" situation rather than just a plain white background photoshoot picture makes a huge difference. it brings it to life, and makes it a lot easier to see yourself wearing it.
i think a big change in marketing is that AP doesn't cater as much to lifestylers.. and lolitas who are very much interested in the fashion beyond a surface level and see them as more than just clothes. all of the photos now actually feel like advertisements, when they used to also be appealing from a photography perspective. like they're only trying to sell you a product and not an experience, even if only visual. for me, that takes away from it a lot.. it almost feels as though that sense of community, and the acknowledgement that lolita is a subculture, is dwindling.
plus, it's definitely more than just presentation that's changed as you said. i feel as though the designs AP offers have been super uninspired compared to old releases. not as many details, not as much custom lace, and the general silhouettes becoming a bit lazy.. tons more, but i could go on for days. even the revamp and progression of the lyrical bunny mascot has felt a bit soulless. very sad to see, because i do agree that they were the brand to introduce OTT sweet in a revolutionary way.
as much as i gripe about old vs new AP changes, the positive side is that we can still look back fondly on the old era!
and no problem at all! it was nice to hear another perspective on this. ^^

Colored Gaze: Zachary Sallows Analysis

Mhm yeah its time for the british bastard to get anaylzed and theorized-
Not much has been said about Zachary's childhood except that he got his photography hobby from his dad and that he was raised to be a gentleman. I've mentioned this before but I think they may have mentally affected him alot and made him hold himself to high standards which feeds into his depression that has been confirmed that he has, all that going along with that Zachary hasn't felt love for anybody until meeting MC.
Along with having years of repressed sexual desire which is probably why he's such a slut.
I also think that maybe MC being the only person he's felt love for is why he's so damn possessive over them. He finally met somebody that he feels something for so you bet your ass he's not going to let them go and show them all the love he can.[Even if he does it in a fucked way]
And Zachary is definitely more of a traditional yandere and I think its possible that Zachary would even break MCs legs to keep them with him. And of course I'm not saying this just because he's seems like the type but there was a post where it was very subtly hinted at.
Take note of the "To him, its too early for that yet." Might be looking to far into it but thats what I'm getting from that.
Speaking of Zachary hurting MC one of the most surprising things is that Zach might be on some levels "the safest one" because he's the only one I can't see killing MC. I know alot of people give Seth the title of the safest but comrades- Lets not forget how this mf acts when he's mad. But alas even if Zachary wouldn't kill MC I definitely see him mind breaking MC if it comes to that point. After all it has been said that if things don't go his way then he'll bend it until it does.
There's also other evidence for that considering his favorite flower is a rose because roses still look beautiful even when they wilt. Now wouldn't somebody that your obsessed with still look beautiful even if their broken? :)
Also if anybody thinks that Zachary is safe because of his overprotectiveness,keep in mind that it's been confirmed that the reason Zachary wants to protect them is because it feeds his ego. 🙂 [Also once again could be something else of his depression since it makes him feel good about himself].
I would also like to mention one of my past theories for this next part,So yall remember my "Simon is a cannibal" theory? [That was debunked btw keep in mind] Well I noticed that in the devs response to it they said something among the lines of "When is my Zachary going to get a theory like this" and at the time I pushed it aside because I couldn't link it to any of the other clues I had about Zachary.

But it immediately clicked for me with that one art on Twitter of Zachary cooking- So does anybody else remember how its been mentioned that Zachary has other "hobbies" but its always been very vague about what they are? Well I think I had a correct theory just wrong LI-
Because with Simon it was just Entity being a lil goofy that made me think he was a cannibal but for Zachary now there's actual evidence(?) That HE is a cannibal.
It makes me wonder why though he may be a cannibal and I've come to two possible answers even though I got to admit, their somewhat of a stretch.
So it could very possibly be that since he's uninstalling people left and right for MC that it might be his way of hiding the bodies. But then again its very possible that Zachary could have been killing before meeting MC to for this "hobby".
Or (and this one is a major strech), looking at all the other things he's into he could possibly have a thing for anatomy but I won't put much since I don't really have that much proof for it.
Also let me take you back to Zachary's ref sheet for a moment. You remember that "Has a unique sense of beauty" part? What if his unique sense of beauty is actually just what he wants. What he visuals. Of course he cares about what MC wants and their opinions but he still wants the future that he visualizes and he's going to do anything to get that.
But honestly, Zachary's not all that bad as some of us make him out to be. Yes even though he can get mad easily he won't show it to MC or take it out on them [Maybe in woo-hoo but thats not my point] and he's just a romantic guy that will take you to dinner and give you roses [andkidnapyou] and don't quote me on this but Zach actually looks very cuddable.

I've been following your discussions on ephemerality vs permanence, control & voyeurism, and on that theme I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Boston having that video of Mew and Ray. It seems odd that he'd hold on to it for two years, without their knowledge, only to use it in a power play that isn't even fully about Mew. What do you think is happening there?
I feel like it has to play into the power dynamics in his relationship with Mew, the way they hold each other in apparent contempt but stick together, as well as Boston's voyeurism and how he'd delight in holding some sort of compromising secret against Mew without his knowledge, but I haven't got any fully realised thoughts about it yet, so I'd love to hear your perspective.
Hi anon, thank you for asking! I have mentioned before that it feels like we're still missing a lot of information about this friend group and their history together, so there may be some information coming to give context to this particular incident and why Boston felt the need to record it. But my current suspicion is that his decision to record and keep this was not initially that deep or sinister.
Boston is a photographer; his instinct is to document what he sees. In the very first episode, he was walking around with a camera taking pictures of the surroundings. In the second episode, after he asked Nick to pose for some photographs, we saw how serious he is about this when it was revealed that he has his own private dark room. Most student photographers would use a dark room at school (think Ink in Bad Buddy), but Boston has built his residence around his photography, indicating this is much more than a casual hobby for him. He tells Nick that he likes to have mementos of certain people and moments in his life, and he hangs on to the photo strip from his first hookup with Top (I don't think it's a coincidence that his first time with Top has a connection to his love for photography; that's a signal that this was meaningful to him).
In accordance with this interest of his, Boston is a natural voyeur and keen observer of other people. He notices everything that is happening with his friends, and he is always documenting it, even if just in his own mind. He knows about Ray's feelings for Mew; he also knows Mew does not feel the same. He knows Mew has a chip on his shoulder about his virginity. He knows Top needs to feel like an alpha. He knows Nick can be appeased with some vague weasel words and a small bit of affection. And he uses all of this information to his advantage when the need and opportunity presents itself. He seems to have little to no qualms about doing so; Boston ruthlessly pursues what he wants and he doesn't really have any sense of loyalty.
On top of that, I tend to agree with you that Boston has some kind of longstanding issue with Mew. The way he digs at Mew about his virginity is hard to miss. It might just be that Mew's self-righteousness about sex grates on him on principle, and he wants to knock him down a peg. Or it could go deeper. I have been reading it as something of an inferiority complex, given that we know Mew is also a top student. Perhaps sex is the only arena in which Boston feels superior to Mew, and so he wants him on his playing field so that he can beat him at something. When he first hooked Mew up with Top, he clearly expected Top to sleep with him once and then move on, like he did with Boston; the fact that Mew actually got Top to pursue him seriously threw Boston off and pushed him into a bit of an obsessive spiral over Top.
So, back to your question: why did he record Ray and Mew doing whatever it is they did a couple years ago? At that time, it was probably simply because he saw it, and his instinct is always to observe and document. Boston is someone who likes knowing things and keeping a record, and he always has a camera ready. I'm not sure there needs to be any deeper reason than that. I doubt he recorded it with the conscious thought that one day he would use it to humiliate or expose them, though depending on how early this issue with him and Mew and sex popped up, he may already have been thinking that Mew is a hypocrite and here was his proof. But even if that wasn't the case then, when he saw an opportunity to use Ray's feelings for Mew to his advantage in his play for Top, he pulled this up from the archives and recognized it was the perfect ammunition. And as I mentioned above, he has no qualms about using it to his advantage.

Are you named for anyone? Nope, not really. I have a name I might switch to irl, which is my name here, Lif. So really I just named myself after the human woman who survived Ragnarok by sleeping through it.
When was the last time you cried? Last night at midnight. I had to hold in my sobs so hard, and it was literally just over a character death. It really hits me.
Do you have kids? Does a very needy kitty boy count? I'm on mom duty with him for hours every day, and I lost sleep in high school doing all the mom stuff: feeding him, burping him, giving him medicine, giving him baths, reading to him so he could sleep okay, singing him to sleep (these were all vet recommended, and they helped his temperament a lot [he's mentally ill]). I do want kids someday. Almost had one in 2020. I still think about her, especially as May is coming up, and she was supposed to be born then. I don't bring this up to make anyone sad, or feel pity. It's just, part of my life, you know?
What sports do/have you played? Archery!! I haven't been able to do it since an injury in 2013 (yes, I realize this happened forever ago at this point), but it was fun. I should maybe try getting back into it. The lanes are expensive though, and I would need a lot of good places to sit down in between shooting.

What's the first thing you notice about people? Same as sindar-princeling, I think. Probably the facial expressions. Next I look for something to compliment them on.

Do you have any particular inspirations for your artwork?
Hello!
I will preface this by stating that I draw way less than before for multiple reasons, so it's come to a point where all my inspirations are fuzzy in my mind. My visual library has been fueled a lot these last years but it's become passive to the point of not really thinking about it much anymore. The few times I draw for myself I rely solely on my comfort zone so it's become a feedback loop of trying to stick to my own art and where influences per se get drowed out. But answering this ask I will try really hard to find what got me to have various visual "it makes sense alright".
I won't also mention the influences I have for professional related works because they change all the time and when I'm a technician I don't feel like my style has that much of an importance.
So, my Influences :
Style wise I had a before-and-after feeling when I discovered the art of Alexei Kallima. His works focus on various themes but I really am inspired by his paintings depicting hooliganism and violence. His compositions for his series of the team of parachutist women are simply incredible.
Speaking of hooliganism, the short film I Love Hooligans by Jan-Dirk Bouw is also an inspiration.
For my traditional art, I use mostly a gel pen freehand for my sketches, which is my favorite way of drawing all things considered. I use a bit of watercolour occasionaly to make my sketches more lively. My main influence in that medium has to be Gipi and his comic books. My favourite ones are Appunti Per Una Storia Di Guerra and S.
You can absolutely see how I shamelessly copied his lines and features on his characters, I find them absolutely delightful.
My friend showed me a short film which was very similar in style, it's called Yul et le Serpent by Gabriel Harel. I loved it.

In terms of linework, Taiyo Matsumoto was also a before-and-after experience. I discoreved him with Amer Beton and Ping Pong and absolutely got won over style wise with Number Five. I now usually get a bit rougher with my ink lines with my pen like him. He gets different levels of detail and varies style depending on the feeling of a panel or the distance to the viewer. I joke saying he pretty much doesn't give a fuck about the character model and I wish I had that intuition about my own drawings. The animated adaptation of Ping Pong is probably my favorite anime, and inspires me greatly for my animation work. Once again playing with the medium.
My main "intuition" in art has always been colours. I love colouring my art and choosing what goes well with what and do the colour scripts for my projects and all. Movie wise the main guy who gets me creative is Rémi Chayé. The Long Way North is one of my favourite movies and the colours there are insanely good.
Otherwise I'm a huge fan of abstract art, I will only cite Rothko because it's the only one where I've seen his artwork in the flesh and I Get how his colours works organically.
Other abstract artists who inspire me, but not especially related to colours for my art are the russian avant-garde artists, I love constructivism and suprematism (I even got a tattoo of a work by Iakov Chernikhov, the one pictured in fact). So obviously Malevitch (regarding of the period), El Lissitzky, Rodchenko, Varvara Stepanova etc.
Ukrainian mosaic artists but in particular Galina Zubchenko.
For my personal art including my OCs my main inspiration is the photographer Robert Capa.
Another photographer I love is obviously Robert Mapplethorpe (two Roberts mentionned!).
You'll get that now I mostly draw stuff related to post apocalypse and/or wastelands scenarios, so the books Metro 2033, Roadside Picnic (a lot of books and novels from the Strugatski brothers in general). I tend to stick with an artisanal vision of these settings rather than a fully militarized one. I think it makes everything more interesting.
I can't not include obviously real footage and photographies of modern conflicts I guess.
I guess that's all I can think of "precisely" and can name with certainty. I also have a pinterest board for art inspiration if you want to check it out.
I hope that's not too disappointing of an answer and that it's at least interesting.

You articulated everything I think about Tae and ARMY in one post in a clear way I definitely couldn't express properly. I do love Tae but he these 2 characteristics of him are getting me down 1) He loves his fans but he also has some amount of disdain for them and 2) His insecurity (also leading to his mimetic tendency as you mentioned).
Regarding point 2, I think he knows that he's arguably the most popular member but I think he also knows that he lacks something he stands out at - JK being the best singer, Jimin and JHope being the best dancers, RM being being the leader and songwriter, Suga being the producer and best rapper. Like Tae is talented of course but he seems to lack the kind of self confidence of someone like Jin, because Jins in the same boat but I don't think he gives a f*ck about not being the most superlative of anything. Jin knows his importance in Bangtan and is comfortable with it.
His mimetic thing - yeah that's pretty noticeable during Run BTS, where he'll copy someone if they get attention. But for me the one that really cemented it was his trail of hobbies. So he used to be really interested in art and that was his thing (similar to RM's love of art) and then he was really into photography for a while (JK was getting videography around the same), then he started practicing boxing (about the time JK started doing that). I mean of course these aren't copyrighted hobbies and maybe you see your friends doing something and you want to get into it - but it really followed a pattern for me where he'd notice a member getting attention for something, adopt that as his latest passion, make a few posts or stories and then lose interest. Like he has genuine ones like golfing or movies but the ones he picks up from the other members are just attention grabbers. Unlike his trolling of ARMY which I think is pretty deliberate, I don't think he's even aware of this pattern of behaviour so even though I don't like it, I'm not too hard on him about it.
The thing he does with fans though makes me side eye him. The name dropping, the lying, the trolling, the fanservice, his backlash to the want of fanservice (dude you're fueling the fire, you can't have it both ways) and his rudeness. No other bangtan member engages in the kind of mind games with their fans like Tae does. He seems to be doing it like a "I'm a wildcard and a loose canon and that makes me adorable but also sexy" way but it's exhausting because his stans take all their cues from him and it just creates this situation where if you don't want to be a so called Tae anti you have to look at what is clearly a Sharpie drawing and pretend it's a tattoo.
His rudeness personally rubs me the wrong way but he's been like that since day 1 with both fans and the other members and it's pretty much a character trait at this point and I've accepted it as such. His particular rudeness towards JK, the only one younger than him was very characteristic of their friendship before and I think that's something that's actually gotten better after they got closer in 2020.
And finally, the name dropping and his love of celebrity. The schmoozing and the networking - those are actually useful life skills but I still feel uneasy. Because sometimes I wonder, do you only have friends who are rich and/or famous? Is the reason your dynamics with the other members in Bangtan - the thing I like most about you - so good because they're "equal" to you? His comfort and happiness schmoozing during fashion week while not greeting fans properly - is it because these fans are just "ordinary" folk? I don't know - maybe it's nothing and I'm projecting - I don't know about this point - if it's really true or not.
Good lord, I've written paras and paras dunking on Tae but I feel there's no space in fandom to express this without being labelled an anti. Despite everything, I do actually still like him (I swear I do), just not as much as before.
I don't want to clog your blog with too much Tae discourse if that's not something you're comfortable with so feel free to not post this. I just felt everything you wrote very strongly and just wanted to give you my view too. Thanks for reading if you made it this far and thanks for your blog - I enjoy reading it a lot 😊.
I think I'm going to wrap up the Tae talks for today with your ask, anon. And that is because you provided the examples that basically support everything I said in that post. I won't elaborate too much on that.
But I will say, I do think he's the most celebrity-like in the entire group, followed by Hobi (but his style is different). I think he enjoys his status and he doesn't hide it. Of course networking is essential, but usually, one can spot a social climber when they see one. He's taking advantage of what he can. He said he's a people person and how he was also surrounded by those who were only interested in his status, but I can't help but wonder if he's not doing the same thing, just at a different level. Yes, he's famous and he's part of this supergroup, but you only have to pay attention to the people he surrounds himself with. Do I get bad vibes from it? Maybe, but it's just vibes.
If public personal associations with chabeols and the like is his thing and then others are dragged into it, then what can I say? I just observe. He's not the first and only and certainly not the last. The businesses are connected but army still believes the Hybe/BH are different, lol. They gush at Samsung and Hyundai commercials because they boys are cute, while ignoring others, ones that tell stories, but not for kindergarten army. Mind you, the company has partnered with those people for a long time, including Bang Bang Con and the recent concert in Busan. No shocker there. But it just shows a very specific elitist social group. Random bbq restaurants in Seoul are a far cry from luxury hotels to make tiktok directorial/editing/acting debuts, but I guess it's called being open to various experiences. And that comes with baggage. But fans are too focused on believing it's a product of hot sex post Qatar flight so they don't see the forest for the trees.
So if media is making up dating rumors, you post Ugh lyrics on twitter, but the reckless gesture is fixed in a few hours. If someone is posting private photos of you and a girl with threats of releasing nudes which end up being photos in a bathtub of said girl, you keep your mouth shut cause you don't want to be rejected by your crazy fans if they find out you have sex as a 28 year old man. But it's fine. Priorities. The gay-sex-during-award-show-breaks squad is here to the rescue because they all know photoshop and gaslighting. If RM has army right behind him when he says so, then Tae has the lunatics and shippers at his 5 min live call. Which then again, may be irrelevant for others and not a deal breaker, while for some it leaves a bad taste in their mouth.
And within all this, we're supposed to see him as relatable and cute and nothing that he ever does can be questioned. If he follows someone on IG, his stans are saying the poor baby made a mistake and fell asleep. He is without fault and the double standards are everywhere. He's the most protected and excused member in the entire group, while others get thrown under the bus for far less. But this is one of the most sensitive topics in this fandom, especially because it's close to opening other doors and people don't wanna go there. Time will tell and once they are not the hottest shit anymore and they'll find themselves in their 30s and 40s, it will be much more evident.
That's all I'm going to say for now. I don't write posts for sensitive fans and I'm sort of done with beating around the bush. Because I've been nice and polite and gave him and the other stuff the benefit of the doubt and I found a shit ton of excuses. But no more. I made my point and I stand by it.

Okay friends of the MDZS/The Untamed fandom
If you've seen my previous post about making lotus root and pork rib soup, you know the journey I've been on. If you'd like to try making the soup yourself, a link to the recipe is toward the end of the OG post. That one got a little long with all the additions and extra advice from friends, but since I've made it again I'm reporting the results. Why I feel the need to do so is beyond me but this is the only genuine cooking I do and I deserve to be proud of every attempt, so if this annoys you, imagine these faces:
I will give a disclaimer that I had meant to make this soup a week and a half earlier but the mental illness was too strong, so yesterday I forced myself to push through the mental illness anyway so I wouldn't waste too many ingredients (we still wasted some 😔). So, alas, this soup had no ginger and half as much lotus root as desired, plus I forgot to read how much seaweed I was actually supposed to use (way less than what I used), and completely omitted the chopped scallion even though I had it ready because I just. Forgot to actually add it.
We carry on.
In all of my past versions of this soup, I didn't include the rehydrated seaweed. I was advised to give it a go this time and ...well. 😅
That bowl is a good 9 inches in diameter and 3 inches deep. And I took that photo AFTER adding a liberal amount of seaweed to the pot. Yes, I rehydrated the whole package. I didn't think about anything other than, "I'm finally adding the final step to this recipe I've been following!" and entirely missed that it only calls for 1 cup. [Hold on. Googling how long rehydrated seaweed be stored right now. OMG YOU CAN FREEZE IT THANK HEAVEN.]
This is me scooping out all the fuckin seaweed that entirely took over the soup 😅😅😅😅😅😅
Remember how I said there was half as much lotus root? Yeah, this is seaweed soup with a hint of pork now. Good luck finding any slices of lotus root.
I had also assumed that this seaweed would be salted (the packaging was NOT in English, but honestly I can't blame the label for this). I had certainly added what I thought was already a generous amount of salt but let's remind ourselves that I am barely a cook by any means. This girl doesn't know shit about how much salt should go into 12 quarts of water to add enough taste. I did go heavy on the goji berries though.
This resulted in the broth being mainly pork and goji berry water :/ if I'd had the motivation to go out and buy fresh ginger and remembered the scallion I'm sure it would've been better (and more salt obviously), but hopefully I'll be in better spirits next time I make an attempt. I learned a lot from this one.
The one thing I am proud of though?
Look at how clear that broth is. The oily bubbles are from the meat, and I also apologize I don't know if it's my phone's camera or my photography skills, but if it doesn't look clear to you I promise it does irl! I didn't use any of the cooking wine or soaking the meat with the ginger like @of-sevenseas suggested, but just by following the process in the recipe and making extra sure I washed the meat well this time, it seemed to work out!
Lessons learned:
Making soup while having a bad mental illness day is not a failed endeavor, but watch out.
Don't do this without ginger. What are you doing. That soup is wet stuff in hot water.
ADD MORE SALT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, YOU CANNOT BE THIS WHITE.
Read the recipe including measurements. Cooking is, of course, more improvisational than baking, but there's a reason we follow guidelines. Especially when we're rookies, still.
Next time we're gonna try the cooking wine and ginger thing with the meat. It sounds like an adventure.

I love you art!! Do you have any advice for choosing colors that work well together?
thank you! colors mostly just come naturally to me (whether its actually natural or if i've just internalized color theory so strongly that it feels natural i'm not sure lol) so im not very good at actually explaining it. most of it is genuinely just what looks good to you, but looking up some basics of color theory can help a lot to narrow down options so it's easier to pin down what you want.
doing those limited palette challenges (especially when the subject matter doesn't necessarily fit the palette colors) can be good practice and i think at least a small portion of my skill in the area comes from playing those color-sorting phone games like blendoku or i love hue lol. also probably related is the year or so when i was younger where i just refused to use gradients whatsoever for some reason
that aside, here's very bare bones color theory (i wont get into it too deep, there's a billion explanations online that are leagues better than i could explain it) and some tips that might be useful?

i tend towards 2-tone palettes when i'm doing full color n they usually end up being complimentary (purple + yellow, green + pink) or close (blue + yellow, green + purple, pink + blue). i like a good strong contrast, which i think is generally what people mean when they say my style pops- having contrast makes the colors seem even brighter and stand-outish.

maybe that ^ helps? the ratios are rough estimates of how much of each pic is each color group. some common advice in general design (it's actually used in a lot of stuff- webpages, interiors, etc) is having 60% main color 30% secondary color and 10% accent color (but like i said, i mostly work in 2 colors so i don't have a great example on hand)
as for finding colors, i'll sometimes search for photography that has the kinda vibe i want- for the kindred spirits pic i literally searched "blue and green spooky toxic photography" and i think i ended up referencing a pic of green lights reflecting off of wet pavement on a dark street.
one big thing that i hardly ever see mentioned but i personally utilize an absolute fuck ton- dulling colors makes them lie. use this to your advantage. say you're using bright green; if you use a gray-blue it can look like purple and will blend with the green instead of contrasting like an actual purple would

of course there's lots of situations where you do want the purple (or whatever color) to be a contrast, but this is useful when you don't.
a lot of the time lately i'll color everything in a base monotone (or very slightly varying analogous colors ie teal through indigo) and then make the lighting a contrast (complimentary) color on an 'add' or 'vivid light' or other lighting layer, then sometimes color pick the contrast colors shown in the lighting n use them sparingly to fill in a few of the base colors that didn't fit well being the base color. you can see that in the drowning picture (blue is the base color with pink lighting) and the kindred spirits drawing (gray-blue base colors with green lighting).
one last thing: never be afraid to use filters. almost all of the finished art i post has at least one overlay or gradient map or tonal correction layer ontop of it all. i'm quite partial to a low-opacity gradient map layer set to whatever colors i scrolled thru in my list and liked the vibe of, a black and white gradient map layer with the layer set to brightness (also on low opacity), or messing around with a tone curve or color balance layer.
if someone starts shit with you for using filters on your art fucking block them. in general if it looks good it isn't cheating (insert common sense caveat that you aren't stealing other people's art etc etc)

-Makoto had a little brother, 4 years younger than her. His name was Kuro. Sadly, the school Makoto and Kuro attended was suddenly shot one day. While they were trying to escape, a masked man found them and pointed his gun at the children. Kuro stepped in to protect his older sister and got shot in the head, and another time in the stomach. Makoto got shot in the stomach. Before the man could shoot Makoto a second time, three policeman had surrounded the man and arrested him.
The injured kids were taken to the hospital immediately. Makoto survived, but Kuro didn't make it. The Gushiken family was devastated, but Makoto struggled the most. Her parents took her to therapy, also taking the opportunity to get some therapy themselves. The homelife wasn't going well ever since Kuro's death. Makoto's mother started to drink, and her father tried to make his wife snap out of it by reminding her the tension in the house wasn't good for Makoto.
Makoto's mom soon found healthier ways to cope with the grief.

OH I HAVE. I HAVE A LOT OF THEM it's just that I cannot like. Put them in an actual cohesive post so I'll just. Dump whatever I can think of right now. Welcome to the pilots headcanon dump (everything i remember right now)
Now. Let's see if I manage to rememeber all i wanted to write....
actually, let me divide them between Paul and Pat, yeah
- Patryck
He LOVES birds!! He would totally have a little companion for himself, they're just silly creatures like he is! Like a little cockatiel. Despite his uh. infamous nickname. That everyone gives him (chicken wings), he still loves chickens. I honestly have this little idea that maybe his relatives have a bunch of chickens he loves taking care of. You might find him holding them gently in his arms.
He is a complete mess. His room is just straight up impossible to talk into in somedays, he needs to have everything he needs nearby or else he forgets where he even put it in the first place. He definitely eats and drinks in there too. You might even find a few bottles lying in there. Despite his messy behavior, he takes GREAT care of his appearence. Especially in his clothing and hair. Dont touch his hair. Do NOT even try to do so.
I mentioned how he has notebooks where he notes stuff down for his memory. Well, one of his hobbies is writing! He writes. a lot. About pretty much everything: Thoughts of his, opinions on other people he met, little notes about said people and his friends, about his hyperfixations...and speaking of those, he owns a bunch of binders where he writes all the information he could gather about it. He probably has 2 binders just for aviation alone.
He also likes photography! He usually takes pictures of places he has been during his travels, as he loves travelling a lot. However, he usually travelled alone, so photography and writing were his ways to feel less lonely. He hangs the photos he makes on the walls of his room aswell.
He has had an hyperfixation with planes and dreams of becoming a pilot ever since he was a little kid. However those dreams were shut down pretty quickly by his parents, who prefered if he had any other occupation in his life. Or thoughts the schools were too expensive. That never truly stopped Pat from still dreaming to become one someday, though.
I honestly wanna talk about childhood headcanons I have in a separate post, so let me just say that he was just as chaotic as he is as a kid. He didnt have many friends, though. His college years were definitely the loneliest. He was alone in his apartment, with no roomates, and tried a few flings to feel less lonely. That didn't really work out, and he would usually end his relationships within a few weeks.
...He gets flustered pretty easily.....He's touch starved....Just one compliment and he's out of commission. He just lacked a lot of affection in his early life, I suppose. Even though ..
HE IS SOOO CLINGY. Like. This man jumps on you constantly. He attaches to your back like a baby koala. He strong holds your arm and doesn't intend to leave. He launches onto you when he sees you. He is just an incredibly affectionate guy. Oh, he uh. he stims by. slapping. his friends. a lot. Just slaps them across their face. or poked their cheek. or plays with their hair. yea. Also don't forget that he's soooo patethic. He cries over spilled milk. He drops his lunch and starts sobbing. Also that one saga on my blog is all canon to him. He is that kind of guy.
OOOOH He tends to be such a people pleaser. He needs people to like him. And well, if he thinks you're his friend, he doesnt stop staring at you. Or follow you around. Especially follow you. You might just find him behind you all of a sudden.
I've talked about how chaotic he can be, just let me say that this guy shouldn't be trusted around weapons or explosives. at all. You know. Penis Blast. 20 injured. No one knows how he even owns a switchblade, however he's quite good at close combat. He CAN take you down despite looking like a fuckin stick
I have a few more for Pat, but I feel like they deserve their own separated post aswell because. Paul deserves the spotlight too!!

I'm so obsessed with the headcanon that he had like. 40 different jobs before the army or even after it. So of course I yoinked it for my own interpretation. Even though I see him as more of a mechanic kind of guy? Like. He works with motors and shit. He knows how to fix those. Truck Freak (/j) (is he into cars..maybe...mayhaps....thinks hard) Like. I just see him as a manual jobs kind of guy
He is REALLY strong physically, if that wasn't obvious. He could quite literally chuck Pat into space if he wants. He probably did it a few times not gonna lie
I also really like the idea that he has a twin, and that twin is Mike. (the moviemakers guy, you know). Like yes it's obvious but I like it nonetheless. I also think he had a single parent aswell. I can't honestly decide who, but probably a single father. Loving father and all, of course. But maybe still left his house early to like. help his family financially. He still wanted to give an hand in the house, probably out of not wanting to be a weight on his parent's shoulders.
I looked at him once and thought. Oh, you have the worst anger issues known to man (/hj). What do you mean he's screaming? that's his normal voice tone. He isn't angry HE IS INCREDIBLY CALM. If only he wasn't paired with a guy who constantly makes him go nuts over the tiniest thing. and takes actual pleasure in doing that too, just making him scream at all times. He is very quick to just grab someone and shake them profoundly. OH, his dead pan look is the default face he has. I mean, you've seen the uno animatic.
His sleep schedule is a complete disaster. He probably sleeps for like, 3 hours at best. Don't worry, he has tried everything he could to help with this. nothing has worked. no wonder he looks 50 despite being barely 28. Single divorced father looking ass
Yes, He still has his smoking habit. It became less with time, if that is something, honestly. He still smokes two packs a day though, which isnt really much better
He's secretely a softie despite his outside personality. Oh he cares a lot about the people close to him, wanting to protect them and stuff. He'd die if something bad was to happen to any of them. But he has also built 40 different emotional fortresses in order to not let that even slip. If you find out about that, your days are numbered. He really doesn't want to be seen as weak or vulnerable because of his feelings.
Yes, he still is the brawn to Pat's uh. uhh. brains. Nevermind. they both exchange roles honestly, they shouldn't be having ideas together constantly. They're both chaotic together. Maybe he also wants to see the world burn and Patryck will help him with that.
This also was taken from a rp I had with a friend, but I like to imagine that he's a coffee addict. Probably even tea. Then he wonders why he doesn't sleep at night. I mean, at least he stays awake enough to do stuff, the daily grind or something, He doesn't want to waste time or anything....
AAND that's all I have for this post, and like I said, I probably forgot some stuff once again, but because I have sooo many of those that unless i write them down, i'll just forget about it.
