Hi I just got through reading all of your liveblogging posts about The Bear! It was a delight to read all of your real-time predictions that ended up coming true, you really had this show’s number from the jump lol. Do you have any predictions for next season? Most fans think Carm and Syd are headed for an explosive confrontation, but are any other storylines, scenes, character beats, etc. that you think we might see?
This is super nice of you, anon! thank you so much for following my chaotic ramblings XD and hey it's a lot easier to know what might happen in the show when they've got such competent writers/directors! tho they surprised me a fair number of times (i don't think i'll be over the interplay/intercuts of claire, carmy, and syd at the end of 2X07/start of 2X08 any time soon), which keeps things fun
as far as predictions for next season...i think it's hard to say without having the first five minutes of S3 in front of me (they do such a good job setting up the tone and conflicts of the season in the first little bit of S1 and S2!), but i've got
a couple things i'm pretty sure about:
-more REM songs (only thing i'm 100% positive on)
-more kitchen/cooking time for our mains, especially carmy. last season's renovations + cliche john hughes nonsense kept him mostly out of the kitchen from ep 3 on, and i'm 99% sure he'll be back with a knife in hand come S3
-nat giving birth to a girl (i'd love it but am not solid on predicting she'd be named some derivative of 'mary' (or a name meaning 'victory', such as nicole), given the berzatto family prayer).
i know the temptation for her to have a boy named after michael is strong b/c it's TV, but this series (rightly, in my mind) tends away from Lionizing the Dead simply b/c they're dead, and after spending S2 breaking down mikey (and showing mikey and nat's relationship, which like ever berzatto relationship wasn't super healthy), i'm hopeful and trusting the writers to avoid this. it wouldn't make me hate the show or anything, but it would honestly disappoint me unless done in a way (i honestly can't think of what way) that would make it okay. plus pete kinda screams girldad to me, and seeing carmy and richie with a little niece would be incredibly precious
-sydcarmy dustup of some kind, but i doubt it'll be as explosive as we've seen in the past, mostly b/c syd was stressed but exhilarated by success at friends & family and b/c i think carmy's (lack of) mental health will be brought up in relation to it
-solidifying of a secondary staff at the bear to let our regulars breathe a bit and have the bear feel like a real, functioning kitchen, not a mom and pop greasy spoon -- this started at the end of s2 but it needs to continue
-cicero setting the tone of the first few months of The Bear (and probably his commentary on carmy's relationships) -- we're not out of the realm of Complete and Utter Failure yet, lads, and the money is gonna come due -- whether by the guise of Friendly Uncle Jimmy visiting with Nat, or the mask of Cicero the Loan Shark coming out in full force
-art storyline with carmy figuring out what will replace the awful painting (i'm going to guess it'll be something of his design, but it'll at least be something he feels represents him, given the comments last season)
-major theme of carmy figuring out what he wants vs what others want for him. him analyzing his relationship with claire by himself -- or, my preference, talking it out with Tina, who he seems to be able to open up to pretty well -- is part of this
things that have to happen but i have no idea how/to what resolution:
-carmy and richie addressing the "donna" fight/comment. it's gonna be multi-ep (neither one is great at complimenting the other to their face and tend to do it behind the other's back, but richie is especially bad at it), and it's gonna hurt.
-pete spilling the beans to Someone (not nat but not sure who) about donna being at f&f
-resident claire's poor little hurt feelings from trespassing into the kitchen and eavesdropping on then leaving carmy in the middle of a really, really bad attack (yes i'm phrasing it that way because it's true <3)
-something about tiff's upcoming wedding (marcus getting contracted/recommended to make dessert for it would be painful but oh so crunchy)
-carmy meets syd's dad. he's proud of her and her success and you know he's gonna want to meet her business partner
nebulous predictions:
-ebra's storyline with him carving out a niche at the sandwich window getting screentime
-tina coming more into her own and maybe getting a designated storyline (about what? no idea)
-more gary nonsense. man lives the wildest life and we see almost none of it
-carmy working through what cooking means to him and what it means in relation to the bear/the berzattos/sydney
-nat's water breaks/she goes into labor at the bear. not sure the baby will actually be born there (i'd guess probably not on the whole), but the process will Begin there
-syd distraction/love interest storyline. not even her dating particularly, just her attention being Split and having the shoe be on the other foot for carmy as they navigate what being business partners means outside the kitchen
-fak time. he's a little uncertain, a little wandering in the restaurant, and he was a major...antagonistic force, let's say? in S2. his place in the world of the bear needs clarification and harmony, and his identity needs solidity and sureness
things that aren't impossible/improbable but would be a Little Treat for Me specifically:
-chef jess being invited to the bear by richie (let the man have people outside the bear and his kid/ex! garrett may come too i'll allow it)
-the return of louie my beloved (helping out at the sandwich window? he makes a good foil to Young Carmy, so i would like to see him more -- carmy in Full Mentorship would be a thing to see, and it would be a being-better-than-mikey-was-to-him thing as well. it's narratively crunchy and provides lots of room for growth, but can be done in ways that don't involve louie, so that's why it's here)
-syd's best meal + comment about being a regular at The Beef coming back. do i think they eventually will? yes. am i aware that my desire for them is prolly stronger than it narratively should be be predicted? also yes. could this easily be combined with carmy meeting syd's dad? yes and i will break the sound barrier
-carmy drawing a dish syd comes up with. a hand-drawn menu for the bear would be Incredible, and syd's face looking at a sistine-chapel-style drawing of a dish she came up with? tremendous, chef
thing that i want to be brought up more than Anything but don't predict it'll be touched (at least directly):
-carmy yelling for syd during his attack in the walk-in (i'm sorry you can't have the man yelling "MARCUS GET ME SYD. GET ME SYD" and expect me not to want it on a billboard

Pls god tell me cuntiness runs in the Ancunín family. Like I already enjoy chewing on the myriad of feelings Astarion would go through upon learning he has living relatives who care for him, as well as meeting them. But the idea of them being equally as bitchy as him is so funny. Showing up 200 years late to a family reunion only to find out tht the reason he is the way he is is bc he spent his mortal years chasing after equally catty older siblings who have been doing it way longer than he has.
And this is just bc I have one sibling and they’re 16 years younger than me, so I’m sort of projecting, but he does sort of give not only youngest sibling energy, but Much Younger Than The Others energy. Like the rest were full grown adults when he was born and they were like what are we supposed to do with it? Which is why, despite being one of the “oldest” spawn, he’s yk [gestures] the way that he is w the rest of them.
THATS EXACTLY WHAT I DID HES THE YOUNGEST BY LIKE A SIGNIFICANT MARGIN. I will give a sneaky peek. Because I cannot shut up about my OCs.
1. CAPTAIN Adonnae Ancunín- KING bitch. I wanted the family to be the nobles of a keep specifically so there would be reason for guards/soldiers, they're the security for like a small region with a handful of villages too far for cities/towns to protect. And Adonnae takes the job very seriously while also being one of the least compassionate people ever. He's stern. Aloof. He cares about protecting those villages because he cares about his job, but not so much the people. He was Tavyth's commanding officer—Tav was originally a guard for the keep itself, he was recruited as a soldier after Astarion left for the city. Adonnae ended up banishing Tavyth after a raid involving lycans from the bordering wilds, both for Tav ignoring orders to abandon the village he grew up in, AND for getting bitten. The only reason he was not executed was "in Astarion's memory."
2. PROFESSOR Althea Ancunín- slightly less of a bitch but also just like. Does not get people. She's cold but not in a mean way she just cannot be sensitive to save her life. She's a wizard in Waterdeep because I think it's hilarious that no one knows Astarion's surname until act 3. She's bEEN in Waterdeep so long that Astarion has very few memories of her and she only ever came home during special events.
3. Astarion wanted OUT of the keep, like chasing any opportunities that would take him elsewhere because he's the youngest PERSON there, like can you imagine??? How SLOW the day to day goings-on in a blue-blooded ELVEN house are?? They hurry nothing. Because they have all the time in the world to do it. I can picture Astarion being both frivolous and adventure-seeking, drawn to the city but morally uncaring about his actual job when he was there, as long as he was out. I also think. Because I am horrible. That he was only there for like six months before Cazador noticed him.
(Tavyth was like crushed when Astarion left because they spent like. Every day together. And Tav was going to miss him so terribly but never once did Astarion mention possibly missing HIM. Astarion just ..moved and acted and thought too quickly to stop and look at what was around him right then and there.)
(but vampire spawn Astarion...is observant. He watches. He's impulsive but also he's 200 years older. He's sly, because he has to be. Intelligent. He was a little bird and now he's a cat.)
(and Tavyth is also hardened and darkened by just. Battle and aimless wandering to look for someone who will give him coin to do more fighting. He's kind of a bitch too now. So now they match. And they got matching worms.)

I uh. I just finished ghost wax ep 44. I'm devastated. I need several moments. At least a day actually. Jesus christ.
(spoilers for part 44)
First of all I love the incantations. Iconic. I have all of them written down in Google keep. The empty table. The world's last fable. Dead mortar, bone pestle. Come death to your vessel. Come now, entropy. The spiral of time. Spin, spin fast. And seer and cable. Pen, fog, and fable. Stay within, flat and pinned. Love all of it and I am actively wanting more of them to memorize for enrichment. And now time to go feral over the Happenings.
So I'm kindof unclear on what happened to pip, did she essentially get jonah magnused, as in whatever entity Charles served controls her eyes now? Does she still have control of the rest of her body? Does the entity have control and she's just watching from within or is she essentially dead/incapacitated with the entity puppeting her? Ack augh I really liked the episode where she had the dream thing where the other characters were her friends and family, Luca as her brother, Owen and Azem (AUGH ILL GET TO HIM) as her uncles ("Uncle cid will be delightfully catty," ACK.), and she lied her way out of it even with the incredibly tempting offer of a world she could control where she can have an actual support system, and she gave it all away to protect the same people in the real world. That episode made me much more familiar with her character than I had been, idk what happened while I was listening but I was pretty neutral about her before this episode bc I didn't know her and AUGH she was just trying to help Charlie and he manipulated her away and into getting caught by whatever he serves and AUGH SHE DOESNT EVEN KNOW WHATS HAPPENING WITH OWEN AND LUCA
We also get a lot more Luca lore in the most recent episodes with his childhood and the beginning of whatever's going on with his soul that at one point Owen said his spirit is incomplete? And Owen gives him a replica of the thing he pulled out of his dream 😭 sobbing. Luca my beloved augh is he dead?? I saw a theory that the body Owens hamsa instincts latched onto was his so what's going to happen to them if that's true? Is one of them going to disappear or is it going to be a John and Arthur Malevolent situation or even will they combine like Paul from Nona the ninth? If that is the case I'm leaning towards something between disappearance and a malevolent situation bc Owen seems to have kept what remains of Azem with him all this time, and he cares enough about Luca that I think he'd do his best to not erase him as much as he possibly could. Luca my boy please don't be dead ;_;
Owen my beloved AUGH. ACK. ALDKSJ. Owen you are devastating me. Apologizing to Charlie bc he failed him when from what I understand pretty much nothing Owen could have done for him would have helped him not do this and then pleading for just five to seven more minutes so he can release what's left of Azem and also cause as little damage as he does as possible??? SIR. I AM WEEPING. He's old, so so old, and he's been here for so long and held on to Azem for so long that all he wants is to be able to let him go, to give him this one last thing. He accepts that he's about to die and that he will lose this last connection to his partner so quickly, and he just wants to give that which remains of Azem the best chance he can give him. I think the fact that he was pleading for this long-dead figure that only remains in mere fragments in Owens head at best to be released and not for his own life and continued connection to Azem broke me. I do think that the body he was in for all that time had some significance regarding Azem, maybe it was azems body?? I think it might be more likely it's the body he held when he met and was with Azem though, but also that whatever parts of Azem are left are tethered to that body, and he can't take him with him if he takes a new one, and he's afraid of letting go even when it's to his own detriment, because he starts using the wax recorders when he starts losing memories of reclaiming from the sheer vast amount of them he has in that brain. When he doesn't want to use an observed as bait and someone suggests he use himself instead and he says he can't, and I think the intro to ep 41 has some interesting implications:
A: ["will you- will you"? Could be a name?] please, oh god, ["please don't make me"?] just let it be over, I don't want it I don't want it anymore-
B: shh, come now, come now it's almost over. hush, hush, my love, we believe in you.
A: I can't, please
B: you knew this would not be easy. You know that. you cannot stop now, it is too late.
A: [weakly, as if weeping] please don't make me
B: this is what you chose. It is the right choice. None of this, none of it is real. It's all just a vivid dream. You choose to wake up. Just a few steps further, my love. [Interspersed with noises from A that sound like sobbing] Free yourself. Almost. [sigh? Or a laugh? Possibly "there"?]
I think "A" is Owen and "B" is either some corruption of Azem or something using his countenance and voice. It's too late at night and I kinda forgot what exactly happened in 41 so I can't elaborate exactly why I think this. However perhaps it is related to the thing Charles is serving (the cypher? Unclear to me) possibly attempting to get Owen to give up prematurely, maybe with a dream such as the one pip had but Actively Bad And Worse? It's something, that's for sure. I couldn't understand some of it too so that's probably contributing to my confusion

I think I realized what an impossible task I have at my job to accomplish, and how the teachers view the library staff as a parasite.
Some of it is my fault.
But in retrospect, it's as if I sneezed loudly at a wrong moment, and now the Staff there treat me like a batman tier war criminal, and it's entirely unfair.
Example and dumb rambles of Teacher staff drama under the cut cus I'm fed up and just making this Tumblr post to vent if anything.
Today, there was a buffet potluck for Teacher staff. So I asked if I could have some. They said yes. But once I had food, they were upset I was eating "teacher staff" food and it wasn't for Library Staff.
They even sent the Elementary Guidance Councilor to tell me this. And they spoke in the same voice that they use for five year olds having a disagreement.
But this wasn't a disagreement, more of a misunderstanding.
I mean, did they think I'd eat the whole potluck? Did they want me to contribute?
I gladly would have. Heck, I could have given the parent teacher association money if that's what this was about.
I know why they treat me this way. It's because I took a few small foods from the PTO breakroom in the past without paying for them. Planning to pay back once I got my paycheck. (I'm not the only one to do this. The few teachers who I am friendly with do this all the time and assured me it was fine.)
This was over five months ago and I have since payed back the money, apologized for my mistake and misunderstanding, and have been trying to move on. As my job revolves around having good working relationship with the staff there.
So I will admit fault for my slip ups of work related hunger and poverty.
I can take responsibility for my actions, and I have sense been trying to build my relationships up since.
What I didn't appreciate was that they told me I was allowed to potluck functions, something I double checked and asked about, and made sure it was absolutely okay for me to have this food, which they said alright, then got mad when I took a small amount of food, locked me out of the breakroom, despite me having a key, and treated me like a war criminal or a Snorlax that'll eat the whole damn potluck.
Not to mention, my boss also wants me to "come up with something" to organize the library in a new way.
When they admitted personally that they don't know what they want.
So I don't know what to research.
But since I'm on probation on yet another job, I will get fired if I don't find or come up with something they want by the end of the month.
The task is impossible.
Partially self inflicted. I know I did some of this myself. But I don't think it's all self inflicted. I think it's also part of the Teacher Staff being very catty and clichey and just treating the library staff like unwanted parasites or outsiders.
And I don't think I deserve a lot of the isolation that they put me though. (I either have a choice of eating in the hallway where the library is located or a broom closet these days. And yes, the superintendent was the one who made this "compromise" so their food doesn't get "stolen" Granted, the custodians can't use the breakroom now either.... But the substitutes can.)
Either I'll quit or be fired by the end of the year.
I think I'm too autistic to have a job where building relationships and have everyone like you be part of my job description.
I feel I'm too autistic for a job anymore in general.
Anyway, long story short:
Me: oh cool. Nice food. Can I have some?
Them: sure.
Me: (eating) them: no, no. Bad girl. That's teacher food.

Best Thing (1)
Sooooo I finally built up the courage to begin my Erik Stevens fanfiction. I know no one will probably see it right now especially with me not being that active on here (I’m definitely about to start doing that) but it’s okay because there is a start to everything. This story takes place after Erik has been redeemed and is running the Outreach Center in Oakland. I hope whoever reads this likes it!!
Noli jumped out of her sleep startled by the loud banging coming from her apartment door. "Got dammit, who the hell making all this noise?" She snatched her phone from her bedside table to check the time which read 8:30 am in big pink numbers. Begrudgingly she slid out of the bed and slipped on her house shoes and stomped to the front door.
Swinging it open she was met with the one man who had become the biggest nuisance ever since he moved in 2 years ago. "Erik what on God's green earth would have you beating on my door this early on a Saturday like you the police!" She was way past furious being that she had just finished a shift at the club three hours ago. "Delivery man left your package at my door again," and with that he dropped it at her feet and trudged off as if she was the one who woke him up early. "Don’t beat on my damn door like again," she yelled as she picked up the package and slammed the door. "Bastard!"
Flopping onto her blue suede sectional she stared at the package that was now on her coffee table in front of her. Wonder what he sent me this time. The packages had become a routine with her brother as he was always sending her some memento from whatever country he had found himself in. The last one contained an alabaster pyramid that he found walking around a bazaar in Egypt. "Tuh."
Noli's relationship with Poe had been strained ever since the death of their grandmother five years ago. Being that she was there only relative still alive besides each other it took a toll on them both. However they both grieved differently and while Noli wanted to be able to seek solace in her older brother he hopped on the first plane out of Mississippi into another country. He left her a note stating their grandmother's death was the wake up call he needed to go see the world for what it truly was, whatever that shit meant. Now while Noli also decided to move out of Mississippi she decided to stay in the states and somehow wound up all the way in California.
She had always wanted to be a celebrity hairstylist and figured going to Cali would be the best start. She ended up finding a beautiful condo in Oakland at a great high rise thanks to the money left over from her grandmother and immediately got to work. So far she hadn't done any celebrities but she was building her brand. She began working at a popular strip club called Diamond Dazzlers where she was a bottle girl/hairstylist to the dancers. The girls were always promoting her work and she was beginning to build a clientele and soon she would be able to purchase her salon and stop working in the club for good.
That always brought a smile to her face, it wasn’t that she hated working at the club because the pay was great, the managers and the owners were cool and respectful, there would be some catty arguments between the girls but nothing that was ever too serious. The lows came from the long hours and the perverted ass men that frequented the place. There was nothing worse than serving a group of men just for one of them to grope you can just because they think they can. Noli glanced at the package one last time and rolled her eyes before shuffling back into her to get some more beauty sleep. Today was her self-care day and first on that list was most definitely rest.

How do you think Markiplier's egos and Sanders Sides would interact with one another?
I am so glad you asked! (This is gonna be long)
For context, I imagine the reason they all met was some time-warp space fuckery, and right now the sides only chance at survival is kinda hanging out with the egos until something can get sorted.
As a whole, everything is relatively peaceful. Is there Drama? Of course. But nothing too terrible. Maybe a physical altercation on a bad day, but nothing that would get the sides thrown out.
Let's get the obvious out of the way: Remus and Wilford would hang out. Remus would be fascinated by how off the walls Wilford could get and Wilford wouldn’t think twice about Remus’s insane sentinces. He’s like that Marge meme of ‘I just think he’s neat!’ Remus doesn’t really care about the others, but he loves asking Google fucked-up questions because he’ll just answer. No hesitation. And Remus thinks that's hilarious. Also him and Heehoo have to be kept in separate rooms after the incident.
Patton and Stan would be IMMEDIATE FRIENDS. I’m talking first day of knowing each other, Patton has already made friendship bracelets, Stan makes sure Patton is taking care of himself, and they have a ‘dad club’ that consists of only them two. And they match! They have basically adopted the others as their own, even Patton sometimes able to help Dark. The only person he hasn’t ‘officially’ adopted is Yancy. Patton found out Yancy was a self-made orphan and decided ‘he’s just, like, a friend’ because Patton values his life. (But if we're getting into uncanon egos, Patton basically adopted Erek Derekson and Hates Derek Derekson. Like I fully believe if you put this two face-to-face, they would fight. Patton deserves to go ape-shit as a treat :) )
Logan doesn’t necessarily like Google, but out of all the others, he tolerates Google the most. They pretty much work together to try and get things figured out for everyone, and their relationship is strictly work colleagues. Until Logan found out Google also really likes space. Now he’s intrigued. Another ego that intrigues him are The Jims. Its because he’s heard of a side splitting, but not infinitely splitting. Now he’s begun keeping a tiny notebook on everything he’s learned about the others.
Roman is the most active when it comes to hanging out with the other egos. Him and Yancy definitely bond over their love of musicals and their (chosen) family. For Illinois, however, I feel like they’re either partners or rivals, no in-between. If they’re partners, total bond over their love of adventure and constant compliments. If rivals, very catty behavior from both of them about how self-absorbed the other is. Roman and Dark have a mutual hatred for each other. Roman thinks Dark is the Villain while Dark hates any idea of a hero after Actor. Also Roman found out Dark was twins that re-merged and gained a new fear. And finally, Actor manipulates the shit out of Roman, constantly planting ideas of how similar they are and talking about how everyone else abandoned them so he should stay vigilant.
Janus probably talks to the others the least, keeping his distance and watching from afar. However, he does enjoy learning about the others through the sides that talk to him. Whether it's frustrations or compliments, he takes a mental note of it all. The only person he doesn’t know about at all is Actor, and Roman would love to keep it that way. Janus also loves knocking the more egotistical egos down a peg with off-handed comments. Luckily, that hasn't wound up in anything bad. And while he does do this, he would protect them if it came down to it. While he doesn’t like them, others do. And they all have a use.
Virgil, surprisingly enough, found his way near Dark. I think Dark realizes Virgil’s ‘potential’ and keeps him nearby because if anyone were to stop Virgil, it would be Dark. And if anyone were to help Dark, it would be Virgil. (You know Virgil’s voice thing when he gets anxious? Yeah, I’m gonna be the first to assume it doesn’t stop there.) Virgil over time realizes Dark is a lot like Logan and Janus, meaning he's keeps to himself a lot and attempts to hide his emotions a lot. But because Virgil is near Dark, he’s gotten to know all the others (as well as Dark) very well. Virgil nearly sprinted towards Logan once he found out Heehoo had a scientific name. Also Virgil was the first Side to find out about Dark and Wilford’s Past, which was shocking for him because some of the other egos don’t know his past.

barry being autistic is just really funny to me its like a joke but also the idea of him being real rep is very special to me too i have talked about this a lot SORRY i like discussing it . i like saying things . barry as an undiagnosed adult makes perfect sense because obviously john sr. and fuches would not know or understand any of that and would not bother to really look into it further than "hes shy" -> "hes depressed" . and also him being genuinely really dumb when the mainstream Consumerized autistic character has to be exctremely smart and catty and quick-witted and sarcastic . they have to still function in society and still be extremely intelligent to make up for it and theyre obsessed with science and cars and whatever the fuck . <- i know there are characters who arent like this in media but i specifically am talking about the MainStream CONSUMERIZED form of quirky cute uwu autism thats gotten popular the past few years . the kind where all you have to do is be a bit awkward and be a bit obsessed with something . while barry is sincerely dumb and doesnt understand simple questions and doesnt comprehend relationships and is so gullible and so stupid and the only "skill" he has that "makes up for it" is the skill that also results in him being alienated and In fact is a trait we as the viewer dislike him for . barry being awkward and nervous and oblivious is a very specific part of his personality most noticeable in s1 but as time goes on and he starts to seem more "normal" it can still be viewed as masking via the scenes where his "mask" (version of himself he tried to build) cracks and hes just as awkward and weird and oblivious again . his behavior from tricky legacies to the wizard is one specific moment of that to me . functionally hes a "savant" in that hes extremely dumb with one specific skill/interest that hes exceptionally talented/knowledgeable about. though i dont know if id consider that FULLY because he isnt like. his special interest isnt guns lol but he does have lots of odd little fixations and traits and those fixations are also heavily linked to his PTSD and father issues/abandonment issues and his need for validation . well anyways barry being very messy and fucked up and flawed and his mental illnesses/disorders contributing to it and they create lots of real long-term problems in his life which , though exaggerated or shown in different metaphorical ways, can be very accurate to what real people w/ those illnesses/disorders and even real veterans and survivors of war and stuff go through . but even then we get direct proof that barrys awkwardness and shyness wasnt caused BY the war or by john sr. or fuches because he was already like that as a child. and also i just like to use him as an example of how things can be canon by being inferrable and implied in the text without having to be directly stated . you make a character who is extremely awkward, terrible at relationships, cannot understand tone, rhetorical questions, or metaphors, who is extremely gullible to the point it gets him into serious trouble SEVERAL times , and who is finally again i keep bringing up the rain man comparison AGAIN he is compared to raymond from rain man, possibly the most well-known autistic character (and movie related to that) in america i would think . so like . at that point its canon without them having to explicitly state it at all . what was the point of this. oh barry is just good representation of a severely mentally ill person and a good commentary of how society and organizations can fail mentally ill people . and sally also i would like to talk about sally one day but i need to rewatch early s4 for that probably .... . i am very mentally ill and i like talking about how it can be shown in media (thumbs up emoji) . i dont know if any of these words form a coherent sentence

I’m very very new to the always sunny fandom and I stumbled across a post of yours about macdennis and your prefaced it with saying rob is a loser and people in the tags were agreeing/saying they’re a rob hater and hate to give him praise/credit. My question is, why does everyone hate rob? Is it because of the offensiveness of the show or something else? When I say new I mean like this week new so I really don’t know anything about the actors/creators. Thank you very much for any information you can give me, it’s greatly appreciated. ❤️
omg hi!!! welcome! sunnyblr is by far the best fandom i ever been a part of. i hope you have as much fun as i do.
something very unique about sunny is how integral the creators are to the lifeblood of the show. rob, charlie, and glenn (rcg) are not simply it's creators, they are the show themselves. sunny was born out of rcg's desire to give themselves the opportunities they wish they were being offered. before sunny, none of them had any major roles or been a part of a hit production. and so they a created a show, written by them, starring them with themselves being the target audience. and it has turned into the longest running live-action sitcom on television, with one of the most passionate and involved fanbases (i can not stand the sunny sub reddit but no one can deny their love for the show).
beyond rcg themselves, sunny is an important part of the lives of their closest family and friends. rob met kaitlin olson, the actress who plays dee, on the show and they are married now. charlie's wife, mary elizabeth ellis, plays the waitress, and jimmi simpson, his old roommate, plays liam mcpoyle. david hornsby, one of the funniest people alive and the actor who plays rickety cricket, was very close friends with rob, glenn, and charlie long before the show started and is also one of the head writers for the show.
also, and, this isn't quite relevant to the rest of this response, but if you do continue down the sunny rabbit hole, you will find that six names repeatedly pop up in terms of episode writers: rob mcelhenny, charlie day, glenn howerton, david hornsby, scott marder, and rob rosell. you will also notice that during seasons 13 & 14, arguably sunny's weakest seasons, glenn howerton, scott marder, and rob rosell were absent from the writer's room, which really speaks to how enmeshed sunny and it's writers are.
ok so here is the thing about rob... i've written about this before but rob is both overwhelmingly confident and deeply insecure, which are two sides of the same coin. funny enough, i think rob would be the first person to agree with me on this statement. he's said many times that he knows he walks around with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. most times, this attitude works in his favor. he is passionate, determined, and persistent, and every person in his life will speak to how great of a leader and friend he is.
but sometimes, I find it very easy to get frustrated with rob because he will say something and I will be hit with how much he has become the hollywood he was originally very critical about. with charlie and glenn, there is less of the feeling that hollywood "got" them. he is also the most defensive about sunny's use of blackface (& other racial caricatures), a decision I already vehemently dislike made worse by rob's attitude of "whoops, just a little mistake we made."
but then again, he has given one of the most nuanced and heartbreakingly real portrayals of a gay man in television, while also still being very funny in the process. in another of his shows, mythic quest, the only romantic pairing in the entire show is a lesbian couple, who get together very early on and avoid the stereotypical catty behavior seen in most tv lesbian couples.
so my feelings on rob are very mixed. on one hand, i am in awe of his creative talent & artistic direction and grateful for his fight for better queer representation. on the other, he can be so irritating i find myself wanting to bang my head against the table.

Usually, around this time, Naoya would be asleep, getting his "beauty rest." However, he is more than willing to stay up for your sake. You allowed him to accompany you to dinner and gave him the best sex of his life. Pillow talking with you was nothing he couldn't do, even if that meant you were yapping his ear out for the last hour or so.
You informed him about wanting your own space, and being your "fiancé" wouldn't make him entitled to your time. There was a certain way you lived your life, and you wanted to keep it that way, regardless of getting married. Naoya had a very "loud" lifestyle, and you didn't want that to affect yours. Yeah, you did go out almost every weekend, but you weren't as nearly well-known as him. Naoya's prominence didn't bother you as much because your best friend was just as, if not more, famous than him. The same best friend he was being catty with the other day.
Although you wouldn't mind seeing Satoru and Naoya roast each other, if the two of you were to be serious, he would need to understand that Satoru is your best friend, and that's not going to change. The last thing you wanted was to be put in a position where you had to choose between the two, say if hypothetically speaking, animosity escalated. But, for now, you wouldn't worry much about it because it just seemed like cat and dog beef.
And lastly, honesty. That was the main thing you wanted from him. You've read most of the articles, seeing what social media said about Naoya. He gets around, which is fine. He's a grown man who happened to be "single," so he's allowed to live as he pleases. Sex is how one interprets. If he sees it as something he did for fun, then who were you to judge? As long as he was clean and getting tested regularly, you didn't care. Though, if your feelings become evident, you would hope he had the decency not to continue with those "flings." If not, you wouldn't be able to continue with this agreement.
"You're not falling asleep on me, are you?"
He hummed. "No. My eyes are just closed. I'm taking in everything you're saying."
"Am I scaring you away?"
"Haha, of course not."
"Dammit. I was hoping to find a way out this arrangement," you teased.
"Sorry, pretty. I can assure you that you're not going anywhere."
"Why do I feel like that's a threat?"
"It's not. It's a promise. Also, 'til death do us part. Remember?"
"We haven't walked down the aisle yet."
"I'm aware, but we will."
"Speaking of, are you planning on inviting your family?"
"Hm, perhaps not my father and uncle. However, I do have an older cousin. I would say I look up to him. He has a son as well."
"Oh? That's good. I would love to meet them someday. Whenever you feel like it's ready."
"I think that would be nice."
"…Hey—can I ask you a question?"
"Hm?"
"What happened between you and your family?"
He deeply sighs. "Although I would love to talk down on my father and uncle, I don't believe now is the time to discuss that."
"You're right. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pry."
"No need to apologize. I intend on telling you."
"Okay…"
"I have a request for you."
"Hm?"
"Will you move in with me?"
You pressed against his chest to give him a bewildered look. "Move in? I just talked about wanting my own space, and you're already asking me to move in with you, blondie?"
"I have four bedrooms with two only being used. You can take the upstairs room. We don't have to sleep in the same bed. However, I do believe it's best for us to live together. You don't want us getting married, then realizing you can't live with me, do you?"
"Hm, good point."
"Plus, I know you'd rather live elsewhere than with your parents. You informed me they meddle into your personal life quite often."
"Well, yeah, but I don't pay bills there."
He chuckled, kissing you on your forehead. "I don't know if you're aware, but I'm filthy rich. Even so, I would never allow you to pay bills. I believe you're my woman now. So your living expenses will be taken care of by me. I'll have my accountant add your name to my accounts."
You raised your brow. "Your woman? Haha, time to add territorial on the list as well."
"I never said I wasn't," he smirked. "How's my proposition?"
"Ugh. It seems like you keep winning me over. Fine. I'll move in, but don't make me regret this."
"You won't."
"I'm serious—Don't hurt me."
"I won't, [Y/N]. I'm certain of this."
"Okay—I'm going to sleep now," you said, shuffling out of bed to go to the upstairs room. Though, when you tried to, Naoya grabbed your arm. "What's wrong?"
"Where are you going?"
"To my room?"
"Do you not want to sleep with me?"
You smirked. "Is Mr. Zen'in catching feelings for me?"
"N-No. It's just you're already here. Might as well?"
"Haha, might as well." You returned under the covers, placing your leg over his hips, nuzzling your face in the crook of his neck. He happily clasped you into his embrace. His chest was firm but pleasantly comfortable. Maybe this couldn't be so bad?
"Another round?"
"Ha, if you can last longer than five minutes."
His cheeks flushed. "Well, who's fault do you suppose that is?"
"Whatever. Let's go to sleep. We have the rest of our lives to have sex. I think you'll manage."
"Oh? You plan to be with me for the rest of your life?" He teased.
You rolled your eyes. "Good night, blondie."
"Good night, soon-to-be-wife."

You eventually returned to your parent's house to pack your belongings, preparing for your move-in with Naoya. You felt your anxiety climb higher with every item you placed in a box. This probably has to be the most bizarre shit you have ever done. You're moving in with a man, practically a stranger, and you're set to marry in six months. Yeah. No worries. This is completely normal. You were all about taking risks, but even so, this was over the top for you.
Can't knock it 'til you try it, right?
Trying it out would finally put your parent's minds at ease. As soon as you walked through the door, you announced you were getting married. It helped you skip the lecture, and lord knows you did not want to hear your mother's mouth. You were convinced that she was the one that persuaded your father into agreeing with this because she was more adamant than he was. It brought her joy once you told her you decided to proceed with the engagement. She even stopped preparing for dinner to make phone calls to find the best wedding planner. Welp. Time to buckle up for the next six months.
You didn't realize how much shit you had while living with your parents. It felt as if you were moving out of a one-bedroom apartment. Luckily for you, Naoya hired movers to retrieve your items and safely deliver them to his condo, which you were thankful for. It gave you enough time to prepare to meet with your older sister, Kassandra, for lunch. It's been a while since you last saw her. Maybe two months? Between her profession as a lawyer, mothering a two-year-old, and being married, you could understand how difficult it was to get a hold of her.
Nevertheless, you were excited to see her, choosing to meet at your favorite brunch spot.
As you were waiting for Kassandra, she sent you a text saying she'd be ten minutes behind due to traffic on her way to drop off your niece at your brother's Obi house. You said in response that it was okay and to take her time. She would get the same meal, so you went ahead to order for the both of you for the time being.
Now, you loved your sister. She was like a role model to you, but she definitely took after your mother when lecturing. If you didn't hear it from your mother, Kassandra would ensure that you would listen to it from her. Like the rest of your siblings, she wanted the best for you. You were the only girls amongst your siblings, so the relationship you shared was different. Your sister was the second oldest. Thirty-three, to be exact. Thus, she experienced a lot in her twenties and didn't want you to make the same mistakes.
Speaking of…
"Hey, [Y/N]! I'm sorry for being late."
You stood up to hug her. "Kas! No, it's okay. Ah, I miss you, sis."
"I miss you too, girl. I know I kept rescheduling on you. Work's been kicking my ass."
"You done left me in the dust, Miss booked and busy," you teased.
"Haha, it's not even like that."
"Yeah, I know. I went ahead and ordered for us. That okay?"
"Oh my gosh, yes. I'm starving."
"So, tell me. How's life been treating you?"
"It's been well but hectic, as usual. Nothing new," she answered. “Hiromi and I are planning on taking a vacation soon."
"Oh, that's great. Where to? Do you need me to watch baby Aleesha? I don't mind. I miss my niece."
"She misses you, too. She's like, "where's Auntie [Y/N]?" I always tell her you're out getting drunk somewhere."
You scoffed. "Kassandra."
"Haha, no, I'm joking. But we're thinking about Aruba. We're actually taking Aleesha with us this time. I want her to see more parts of the world. Plus, I think she'll enjoy making sandcastles at the beach."
"Awe, yes. That'll be so adorable. Make sure you send me photos," you said. "And what about you and Hiromi?"
"We're great. Better than ever. Even though we've been married for six years, it feels like yesterday. He asked about you, too. He wants you to come over for dinner soon."
"I'm glad that you're happy, sis. I remember it was just yesterday we used to FaceTime, and you would tell me how you hated working together. Now, look. Y'all lovey and dovey and shit."
She giggled. "Yeah—yeah, you're right. Hopefully, I can say the same for you. So what have you been up to? You know, with the arranged marriage?"
You sighed. "Girl. Lemme tell you."
Your entrées eventually came, so throughout brunch, you informed your sister about the wonderful Naoya Zen'in. You told her that he wasn't as bad as everyone thought. The date was actually good, and if you said otherwise, you'd just be lying to yourself. Even if he was undressing you with his eyes, he still gave you his undivided attention as you talked. The responses he gave you weren't monotonous either. To you, he was worth giving a chance, but your sister thought you were trying to see the good in him.
Kassandra didn't know him personally, but she knew of him. Your sister was one of three top lawyers in the country, the other two being Nanami Kento and her husband, Higuruma Hiromi. Someone as famous as Naoya was certainly passed around when he needed a lawyer to handle his scandals. Fortunately, though, all three passed up his cases due to them not wanting to deal with the arrogant personality they had heard so much about.
She wasn't necessarily opposed to the arranged marriage with Naoya, but she was skeptical about it. Kassandra gave credit where it was due regarding his profession, but he was extremely good at keeping his bachelor life active. Word got around that he slept with a couple of employees at his father's company. He didn't treat women well either. However, they didn't care how they were treated because, to them, he was Naoya Zen'in. Just him giving them the time of day was enough.
Of course, that worried you a bit. Your sister has been through some fucked up relationships in her past. It took a while for a man like her husband to come her way, and she knew you also didn't have the best of luck with relationships. That one relationship you had when you were twenty-two really hurt you. Your ex just left without a word, not hearing from him since. Although Kassandra wants you to be happy, she can't help but think you have poor taste in men.
"Kas, you do know this is an arranged marriage, right? I didn't pick him out. Mom did."
"And I'll talk to her about that. But you did decide to give him another chance. Last thing I want is some random woman coming up to you to have that "I'm coming to you as a woman," bullshit," she remarked.
"He seems too blunt to be a liar, so if he had some fling going on, I'm sure he would tell me."
"Does he know about your fling?"
"W-What fling?"
"With Nanami Kento."
"Have you and Satoru been gossiping on the phone again?"
"Haha, I'll take that as a yes."
"Take it as a no. We only had sex once, and it was like three months ago. We flirt, but it's nothing more than that, and I'm planning on keeping it that way."
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever," she mocked.
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever, nothing. Please, can we not talk about Kento?"
"Kento? Ha, okay."
"I thought you were supposed to be the older sister."
"I am, I am. I'm just messing around. Back to Naoya. When y'all get comfortable, I want to meet him. Make sure to bring him over for dinner."
"Oh, gosh. So I have my lawyer sister and lawyer brother-in-law interrogate him?"
"You got it."
"Ugh. I love Hiromi, but I know how he is."
"Hey, he doesn't play when it comes to his sister-in-law," she smirked while stuffing a waffle in her mouth.
"Fine," you groaned. "Anyways, you're coming with us to find a wedding dress, right?"
"Duh, I wouldn't miss it for the world."
"Thanks, Kassandra. Make sure you bring Alesha, too. It'll be like a girls' day for us. Mom, grandma, and Auntie Sheila will be there."
"Sounds good to me."

It was nice catching up with your sister. You wished it was longer, but you knew she had to return to her busy life. Luckily, you would see her for dinner and dress shopping in a few weeks. After brunch, Naoya sent his personal driver to pick you up to escort you back to your new home. He informed you that all your belongings had been delivered to his condo, so there was no reason for you to return to your parent's house.
As you were in the backseat of the car, your mind began to wander to the words your sister spoke. That one "relationship" she was referring to when you were younger. Yes. It hurt you, not as much, but it did cause you to be avoidant. You told the guy you loved him, and he left the next day. You were dating for nine months. He didn't even give you the respect to explaining why. You refuse to refer to it as a relationship because it was so long ago.
You had to move on as if it never happened.
You made it to your new apartment building. The driver parked at the entrance, exiting the vehicle to aid you out of the car. The sounds of your expensive heels treading the granite porcelain floors echoed the lobby. You gave the receptionist a smile, but the way she greeted you threw you off.
"Good afternoon, Mrs. Zen'in. Mr. Zen'in wanted me to give you this keycard. It's an access key to your apartment and the amenities located on the premises."
Mrs. who?
"Uhm—thank you. I appreciate it," you uttered, continuing to proceed to the elevator. You couldn't help but think Naoya told the receptionist to address you as such. Stepping into your new home, you thought, "Yeah, this will be a long six months." As you walked in, you were immediately met with Naoya, standing shirtless in the kitchen while making tea.
"Well, hello there, doll. Don't you look gorgeous."
"Don't you mean, Mrs. Zen'in?" you mocked.
"Ah, yes. I see the receptionist has followed my request. I'll be sure to thank her."
"You wasted no time, huh?"
He walked up to you, pressing his chest onto yours while ghosting his lips over your ear. "Of course not. Since this arrangement is happening, I need the world to know that you're my woman."
"Hm, is that so? How're all your other women gonna take that?"
"Haha, I don't believe I have any other women. It's just you. Why would I need to go elsewhere after the wonderful time we shared a few nights ago—Mrs. Zen'in."
You smirked. "You're getting better at using your words, blondie."
"May I kiss you?"
"You may."
He titled your chin up with his index finger to examine your face. There was something about those pretty full two-toned lips he couldn't get enough of. The first kiss you shared, he allowed you to take control, but this time, it was his turn. He sensually grazed his tongue along your lips before swiping the muscle into your mouth. Your tongues immediately connected, groaning from how delectable you tasted. The kiss was short and sweet. However, it was enough to wake up his needy friend.
"I can definitely get used to this," he cooed. "Perhaps we should head to my bedroom or yours? Either works for me."
You giggled. "Perhaps not. I said you can kiss, not fuck me. It's time for you to get to know me, fiancé."
He pulled you over to the couch, grabbing your legs to place on his lap as your back rested against the armchair. "Okay, fiancée—Enlighten me."

This was a bland movie. Typically I try to steer clear of the synopsis for these films so I don't get influenced by anything else, but I skimmed this one and even with that it is so... vague. Nothing felt particularly cohesive throughout this film to me. It fits the more slice of life type of cut of just. Randomness. But it's also not random? The synopsis fit because this was such a long (feeling) movie fully of nothing.
Everyone hates Okin (?) for being a moneylender/loan shark type thing which like, rightfully so. She is insufferable in this movie too, but the other's don't seem much... better? Everyone is flawed which is realistic I suppose. It seems with Okin and Otomi (I think?) both seem to hate the fact they're aging as both of unsaid references to it. (Like the literal mirror scene with Otomi and her daughter. Youth vs aging. Then Okin's scene with the covered mirror where her fake smile falls). The sick one (Tamae?) has a rough relationship with her son because of the dad dying (And what's up with her making her son call her 'sister'?????? Can you say "emotional incest"). The other one is. I have no idea. Just there. Trying to have a kid I guess. You go girl.
While I don't like Okin by any means, I understand aspects of her character fairly well. They show her extremely securing her home at night to sleep, which I think tells a lot about her character. They make it a joke to say she hates men (and like.. everything under the sun apparently) but she was almost killed? Why does everyone gloss over that? The dude comes around too and everyone tells him to go see her!!!! What!!! The fuck!!! He tried to murder her?! And then they're implying that he deserves compensation for it because he went to jail and can't get a job now? I'm so confused. Like, y'all hate her, I get that, but did you hate her before or after the attempted murder. They're haters fr.
Also showing up to ask for money..... the audacity. Then her "great love" doing the same??? Diabolical. Whatever she did in her past life clearly came for her in this one because damn.
I truly don't see how this film is so highly regarded. Granted, I am extremely tired watching it and maybe I'm missing something? But this was a slogfest. None of these characters were interesting. It felt like just 4 days of catty old women being stingy and hateful. Like I said, I think part of Okin's is justifiable to an extent. She was almost killed. But damn.
The only credit I can give this movie is the very small and subtle nods to Okin's trauma. Also, deaf representation! Hate how they interacted with her though. I absolutely hated the sudden pivot to internal monologuing, too, because I feel like this movie did fairly decent with showing things without having to explicitly state it (the mirror, the dude's leg shaking before he got trashed to beg for money, etc). Definitely gonna read other posts and can't wait for the discussion in class because what.

One of the reasons I'm still 95% confident in Buddie Canon is Ryan's acting choices. And I don't think they are just gonna be surprised one day like by the way here's next week's script you guys become a couple. I think since at least S3 they were given a heads up at least a bit. Also as someone who knows of shows where actors intentionally tried to get another LI by switching up the chemistry with other characters--- if Ryan didn't want to go that way he definitely could have sold Anna better. Not sure if that makes sense??
But we constantly for 3 seasons have gotten his subtle nods and sometimes I think we just don't appreciate it as much as we should. Ryan's portrayal of Eddie has definitely morphed into how petty he can be in the funnest way possible. With Buck its in the cute way he teases him, it reminds me of a boy pulling a girl's pony tale. With Taylor it's that subtle cattiness he adds to it and I love it.
I just really don't think Ryan would lean into it much if he wasn't given direction and wasn't aware where it was going.

Oh, for sure there’s no other satisfying outcome for either Buck, Eddie OR Chris. That kid also deserves to have these morons working it out and getting together. Without a doubt, the possibility of canon Buddie has been talked about. I think Ryan mentioned back in s2 that he and Oliver talked about this and showed each other Buddie edits, Tim also mentioned discussing this in the writers room, JLH also came out strongly for Buddie during s3, so if it happens, it will hardly be a surprise to anyone.
TBH, I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out Ryan and Oli have always been making acting choices with Buddie in mind. They indicated early on that they’d be on board with it, which is the most any actors can say in those cases where the execs hadn’t come out and stated anything concrete. I get what you’re saying about switching up the chemistry and it def happens on some shows. IDK about Ana, because if Ryan was explicitly told to sell awkwardness with her, I don’t think he would have gone against orders, but I do believe that between those early statements and also that one interview in s3 ahead of the finale where Ryan was basically, “Abby who? Abby’s been replaced with Eddie!” that this is exactly what Ryan would prefer as long as it’s up to him.
I think Ryan and Oliver both give performances where it’s evident that their characters couldn’t be more in love with each other. Every facial expression, every glance, every show of fondness and joy and contentment just to be together, even the way they’re physically so in sync on calls, but only with each other, we haven’t seen them portraying their characters being that in tune, that comfortable, that teasing, that happy around anyone else on or off the job...
IDK if that means they were given directions on this, though I do think in s2 the show def deliberately wanted to set things up for canon Buddie being an option at some point, and I am as sure as I can be without any confirmation that if it were up to Ryan and Oliver, Buddie would be canon. Did I mention they freaking named our ship?

Answering five weeks late, but yes! Thanks for the ask, and I hope you see the answer.
6. What’s the angstiest idea you’ve ever come up with?
I don't know, sorry! I don't think anything I come up with is particularly angsty (Lulu is shaking her head at me right now.) Maybe because I can always imagine a happy or happy-ish ending.
8. Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?
Some here, here, and here. I've talked about lifetime movie sex (it has roses!) before, which I definitely want to finish. One day.
Also a continuation to the Atar verse, in which Galadriel brings Halbrand to Eregion, convinced he's Sauron (he's not in this). The real Sauron is tied up in the corner (being Gil-daddy's baby and all - this story would be smut) and steaming. Probably starts talking about how he knew Sauron in Almaren and Halbrand's not Sauron, not nearly hot or smart enough, SNL Kylo Ren Undercover Boss style ("I heard the real Sauron had an eight pack"), till Gil shoves a pacifier in his mouth. Would also include something about the tRoP Adar. So many imposters, poor Sauron!!!
On the gen-ish side, a story in my head that's known by the very boring name of Sad Celebrimbor Fic, which would be a prequel to Bones in which Celebrimbor is sad and moping in Valinor after his rebirth. Some worldbuilding, Celebrimbor meeting relatives, getting in catty academic fights, and discovering Aman's romance publishing industry, writing some of his own (thinly veiled expies; he refuses to acknowledge this). Sauron would be very present but never mentioned by name or explicit acknowledgement until the very last few sentences, when Celebrimbor thinks his name, curls his lips, and leaves for brunch and daydrinking.

Also answered here, but I am nothing if not a hater! I mentioned found family in that ask, but I'll expand on that more because the way it's written in fanfic (pan-fandom) often makes me genuinely uncomfortable - so often toxic or outright abusive behaviors are presented as healthy and desirable. I'm all in favor of toxic behaviors by characters in fanfic, but I like the author to know it, you know? I have some thoughts about how this manifests in this fandom in particular, but won't go into them in the interest of not being too negative or verbose (this post is long enough!) - hit me up in private if you want thoughts (throwaway account fine! I have tumblr dms open to all, though I can't promise I'll respond immediately because I don't check tumblr daily and am gone from it for several day or week periods at times).

Zawe Ashton on Bringing Her "Quirky" Love Story to Life in "Mr. Malcolm's List"
Zawe Ashton grew up a Jane Austen lover. Her gateway to the world of Regency romance? 1994's "Emma," starring Gwyneth Paltrow as the titular heroine.
"When you've loved a book and you see it being imbued with so much contemporary humor and with one of the biggest movie stars in the world at that time, it feels exciting," the actor tells POPSUGAR. It's appropriate that Austen's prickly Emma was Ashton's favorite, since her scene–stealing character in the Regency romance "Mr. Malcolm's List," Julia Thistlewaite, is, as she puts it, "so Emma-y." Plus, Ashton's middle name is Emma.
Ashton only had 24 hours to decide to sign on to the movie, directed by Emma Holly Jones (another Emma!) and based on the novel by the same name from Suzanne Allain, who also wrote the screenplay. "I read the script. It was the intersection of so many genres that I am passionate about, rom-com and this new wave of Regencycore that we're seeing," Ashton says. She fell in love with her character immediately. Plus, Ashton has a "very clear intentionality" about supporting first-time female and other underrepresented directors. It was easy to say yes.
Ashton explains about the film's premise, "We meet her four seasons into her unsuccessful matching with the husband. Just felt like something was very contemporary about meeting a woman at this point in life where society and her mother and all of this messaging is saying, 'For goodness sake, just make a match already, just marry yourself off.' "
But Julia, for all her wealth and snark, is still intent on marrying for love, a promise she made to her friend Selina (Freida Pinto) when they were young girls at school. "She's a woman who knows her own mind, and society isn't necessarily supporting that," Ashton explains.
Once Ashton arrived on set, she says it was easy to form connections with the rest of the ensemble, who she calls "glorious." There was, of course, the challenge of getting to know people when COVID-19 restrictions demanded they wear masks and shields most of the time. But she says that they quickly realized they had a lot of connections, and with familiarity came "effortless" chemistry. Her favorite scene to film was the big dinner party, for which most of the cast was together. "All of that fizzy energy was just really palpable."
"You're not supposed to say that," Ashton admits. "You're supposed to say, 'I worked very hard to establish the connections. I was working hard to pretend that I liked Oliver Jackson-Cohen.' Actually, we became best friends on day one. And the only challenge that I saw presented to me was how I was going to keep a straight face in doing a film with him."
Jackson-Cohen plays Julia's cousin Lord Cassidy, and the two are a classic, catty pair of friends. "We are very much hoping for a spinoff," she jokes. "So if you could just start that campaign, that would be wonderful."
Ashton's onscreen love interest is Theo James as the dashing and slightly ridiculous Captain Henry Ossory; viewers might not even recognize him with his resplendent mustache. "I'm looking forward to people seeing the blooper reel so they can see just how hard it was to not break character when I was with him," she says. "He's got such a wicked sense of humor."
"Theo's such a brilliant romantic, leading partner as well, because he was kind of the anti-hero," she says. "And it's just so much easier sometimes when you don't have to carry the central love story. You can be much more quirky, maybe a bit more acerbic. And that was just very, very fun to do with him."
The other relationship she loved playing out was that between Julia and Selina. "[It's] that push and pull friendship that has existed from childhood that feels so familiar and safe, that you can sometimes show up as maybe not the best version of yourself, but it will always hold you and sustain you," she says. Ashton explains that she's had similar "very long, fruitful female relationships" in her life.
Ashton hopes she's "quite different" from her character, though she loved diving into Julia's mind. "There's something about the way that she leans into high society," she explains. "Bless her, she's been really conditioned and trained to exist in that echelon of the world. And that was something that I really, really loved embodying and getting under the skin of. Because I personally am not about to go to the opera wearing a huge feather and have that be a status symbol."
Julia, she notes, also "finds it hard to let her guard down." "I don't struggle with that," she explains. "I let people in all the time. I don't have a guard. I need to build a guard. So it was very satisfying to play someone who has that edge to her."
Julia gets her happy ending, and it mirrors some big changes in Ashton's own life. On June 29, Ashton and her fiancé Tom Hiddleston went public with the news that they're expecting their first child. And her career keeps on rolling; in 2023, she'll appear in "The Marvels," the upcoming "Captain Marvel" sequel.
But it's not a happy ending for Ashton; she's just getting started. (x)

EDIT, on day three of writing this up OKAY THIS GOT REALLY LONG also spoilers up until where i’m at in the msq which is just finished Stormblood proper....
BESTIE ZONE
Y'shtola: Yloise met Y'sthola first, and it was Y'sthola's recommendation that led to Yloise joining up with the Scions in the first place. Yloise is a little intimidated by her, but in a good way? She wants to impress her and she wants to be friends - Y'shtola will insist that they ARE friends, particularly after the Titan quests. Yloise respects and trusts Y'sthola. I imagine they can both get a little catty if they're in the mood for it.
Thancred: Given my fucky timeline for multi-WOL shenanigans, I think Yloise met Thancred for all of maybe five minutes before he was possessed by Lahabrea (but she still thought something was off, given all the stories about him that Erasmus told her, when he was inexplicably absent for her nameday party), but after the whole Lahabrea Fisticuffs Incident where she fractures Thancred’s nose and breaks her wrist doing so, they trauma-bond hard enough that Yloise can consider him one of her closest friends among the Scions during the 7th Astral Era. Thancred’s been busy and distant post-HW, though...
Yda/Lyse: I have talked about their relationship extensively elsewhere but by means of update, I think Yloise is at peace with Lyse’s decisions (even if she was railroaded into them by the plot :/ and i disagree w/ them on a fundamental level but whatever) and ready to move on from her mess of feelings re: Lyse without resolution. It’s fine.
Dariustel (who is still a Scion, despite the game dropping him entirely after ARR it’s fine): Yloise and Dariustel have had a rocky friendship considering that the very first time they met, they were both immediately struck by an Echo vision of the most fucked up moment of Dariustel’s life (when Yloise’s evil dad forced him to torture a farmer to test his loyalty). He very nearly quit the Scions then and there, but Yloise essentially begged him to stay to 1. prove that Dariustel did not have to be defined by his past and that he would make a worthy Scion 2. so that she could seek out her father (who she’s never met) to resolve her own drama/end his reign of terror in the Twelveswood. I’ve written a Lot about this in the Googledoc but very little of it ends up here because I keep changing her father’s Whole Deal, but by the end of ARR, they are very good friends and a sort of trial run for Echo-intimate relationships (Ysayle).
Tajih: Yloise first met Tajih as an Assessor at Mealvaan’s Gate, but I would call them acquaintances (or friends of friends) until they meet up again at the Waking Sands, when Yloise appoints herself matchmaker between Tajih and Liavinne (they can manage all on their own, thanks, AND Yloise doesn’t care for Liavinne), but after the Massacre, Yloise realizes that Tajih needs a different kind of support than just romantic cheerleading and actively works to be a better friend to Tajih.
Erasmus: They’ve been tanking and healing for each other since Sastasha and it’s the sort of working relationship that requires a kind of preternatural ability to read each other (which is inevitably helped by the Echo, but also some people just get each other’s vibes through prolonged proximity). Erasmus is too fucking polite to call her on her deceitful bullshit when he sees it, but he will try to work with her through her own self-imposed barriers. He’s been presumed dead since the Banquet, though, and I need to figure out when I get him back into the Soap Opera plot proper.
COWORKERS
Urianger: While her (rotten) attitude toward Urianger softened quite a bit since the moment that Moenbryda arrived and Yloise can truthfully call him a friend after everything that went down with Minfilia, I still don't think they're close. Yloise has observed Urianger, and can recognize when he's overtaxing himself and (as unobtrusively as possible) leave him some tea and snacks, but she's not doing much more to get to know him.
Minfilia: To be certain, Yloise cares DEEPLY about Minfilia, and feels comfortable enough to share secrets with Minfilia she would otherwise take to her grave (the whole thing w/ Midgardsormr, for example), but there is a certain professional distance that Yloise is imposing on their relationship (out of habit? fear?).
Papalymo: I’m pretty certain Yloise just recognized Papalymo as Yda’s chaperone and like, went to the beach w/ them a few times but they’ve probably never spoken outside of like, making fun of Thancred together a few times.
Alphinaud: Alphinaud was firmly framed in Yloise’s brain as “My 16-year-old Coworker” for most of the game and fluctuated between “I guess I’m just going to go along with him leading a mercenary force now,” “This Child Needs To Get Out of My Personal Business With a Certain Knight in Coerthas,” and “Did he literally just refer to me as a dog?” but then, like, Heavensward happened, and now Alphinaud is Yloise’s Son Boy that she is Very Proud Of and she hangs up his art in her shitty apartment.
Alisaie: Alisaie is currently occupying the “My 16-year-old Coworker” position recently vacated by Alphinaud although Alisaie immediately hit her with the Ga Bu deep conversation which Yloise was not ready for by any means. They need to spend more time together before Yloise can call her a friend, but anything for Alphinaud’s sister, I guess.
Krile: Yloise knows that she Should Not Fuck with Krile (or any other 30+ furry academic, for that matter), but she seems pleasant enough and would probably have tea with her if the opportunity presented itself but, you know, MSQ.
Fred: My partner’s WOL, and the closest thing to a long-term rival that Yloise possesses (she does not have a competitive bone in her body, except, apparently, when this jackass deigns to speak). He is both the Monk who Stands in the AOE AND the Red Mage who will revive her when she is down. The first time they were ever nice to each other was after she was struck by a falling rock during the Titan Fight that should have hit him, and he felt awful and stayed by her side while she recovered at Warmwine Sanitorium (and got in some fishing in the meantime). I WAS playing with the idea when we first started playing that there was something romantic between these two but absolutely not. The very idea is repugnant to her (which makes Fred’s half-assed flirting even worse when it occurs). He now exists to deliver bad news and give her rides on his chocobo while they are both dealing with MSQ nonsense.
Tataru: Tataru is not just Yloise’s Coworker, but she may be Yloise’s Boss at this point. Yloise is wise enough to indulge her whims and support her endeavors.
NOTABLE OTHER DYNAMICS???
She admires the Company of Heroes tremendously and looks upon Riol as both a compatriot and somewhat of a mentor (Erasmus has an outright crush on him and she WILL make it awkward for him for a laugh) (she does have a crush on Landenel though).
As previously mentioned, she does not care for Liavinne, but it’s not like she wanted her to die or anything.
I have not written much about Zezesu since they keep changing in my plots, but the basic points are the same: Zezesu probably falls on the coworker side of the Scions, but as a member of Yloise’s early adventuring party, they have a stronger bond than say, Yloise and Tataru. Zezesu does die in the Waking Sands Massacre.
Most of the other Very Minor Scions are more friends of Erasmus than Yloise’s friends, but they’re all friendly-by-proxy. She’s always surprised when a Scion later assumes she doesn’t remember them, just because they didn’t interact much, but Yloise remembers every time anyone was nice to her ever, so of course she’d recall the times Erasmus would call Arenvald and A’aba or Una and her companions to share a table with them.

One thing I don't like about SNS fans is that some of them feel the need to drag Sakura through the mud in every one of their posts. Calling her a gay beard, saying she is nothing more than a device to convey Naruto’s feelings, calling her catty and jealous of Naruto because Sasuke likes him more than her, etc...
Like, Sakura deserves criticism just like everyone else does, but there's a fine line between criticism and just making shit up like saying Sakura was willing to give Naruto over to the Akatsuki just because of that line where she said getting closer to the Akatsuki would get them closer to Sasuke. Yes, before you ask, I have seen every single one of these claims in SNS posts before.
Like, I'm not the biggest fan of her, but I honestly just feel bad at this point. I know you're a big fan of her so what do you think?

I honestly did not expect my answer to be as long as it is (that’s on me, I should’ve known that I’d be incapable of shutting up) so I’m putting the rest of the response under the cut!
I feel the need to clarify to anyone that reads this: I am also a SNS fan so please don’t come for me!! I know there are plenty of SNS fans that are also Sakura stans (or at the very least, don’t have any strong opinions abt her character, which I’ll always take over the overly-negative ones) but there is definitely no denying that there’s a small percentage of that fandom who actively hate Sakura for things that are literally out of her control.
You basically summed up how I feel about the whole thing. I think there are legitimate reasons to dislike Sakura as a character, but once people start twisting the narrative - that’s when I get defensive. It’s been proven time and time again that Sakura has nothing but love for both Naruto and Sasuke (once again, I am asking the fandom to stop holding her hostage for shit she said in the very beginning of the manga!!) so this argument that Sakura would be catty / jealous / homophobic because of SNS’s bond literally makes no sense to me.
(Like, seriously. If y’all have CANON evidence, please feel free to let me know and we can discuss it! But most of the time, it’s just people deliberately twisting canon to fit their own personal agenda.)
In terms of the jealousy aspect, I personally don’t mind the characterization that Sakura would be jealous on like, a human level. I understand that. When the people you’re close with enter romantic relationships - especially in this case, when it’s literally her teammates - I think there’s a very natural sense of loss and envy that comes with that. Even in a platonic sense, when you feel that two of your friends have a stronger bond, or that they can connect on a level you will never understand, I think it’s very natural to feel jealous or left out. However, in my opinion, that jealousy would never turn into resentment or bitterness. Sakura has always valued the happiness of team, so at the end of the day, I genuinely think she would be supportive and it pisses me off when SNS fics paint her as this jaded ex / the villain of their ship. Like, y’all are going out of your way to make her the bad guy, and for what?
It’s funny, I’ve actually read SNS fics where authors are actively aware that Sakura wouldn’t be bitchy, but write her as a bitchy character anyway because they need a villain for their story. Like... maybe you should take a step back and examine why you feel the need to make her purposefully homophobic.
As for the jokes about her being a beard for Sasuke - well. When done without any real malice, I think they can be funny. But as a casual SS fan, I do think they get old really fucking quickly. Sakura literally has no agency & it baffles my mind when people blame her for ending up with Sasuke (I’m not even pulling this out of my ass - I’ve literally seen these takes.) Like, take it up to Kishimoto!! Leave her alone!! It’s so funny to me when people come up with these wild conspiracy theories as to how Sakura “tricked” Sasuke into marrying & having a child with her as if these aren’t characters with no real agency at the mercy of a heteronormative author. I totally understand if y’all disagree with SS - I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but I also take issue with how their canon relationship played out - but people who hate Sakura for ending up with Sasuke as if she had any real control over the matter... It honestly makes me laugh. It’s genuinely funny. Like damn, a fictional character who isn’t even the villain of the show really gets your blood boiling that badly - it’s very girlboss of her!
Also, I just need to throw this in here because it’s come up on my TL a few times and I want to vent: I honestly cannot fucking stand Boruto, none of that shit is canon to me, but SNS stans who deliberately make hateful jokes about how Sasuke purposefully abandoned Sakura and Sarada because he doesn’t actually love them... Like, that’s not the slay you think it is. Y’all are making fun of Sakura for having to be a single mother, but I think there’s something super fucking tragic about the fact that Sasuke, who has so much love for his family and his clan, basically abandons Sarada in her early childhood. I know he has his reasons, but in my opinion, it does a great disservice to his character. Idk, the Sasuke I know would never, but Kishimoto simply does not understand him like I do. Idk, I don’t watch Boruto, so I can’t really give a fully formed opinion about this, but this has been sitting on my mind for the past few days and I wanted to put it out there.
All this to say, I can’t control how anyone thinks. I’m waaaaay past the point where I feel the need to fight with anyone whose opinions I disagree with - the block & mute buttons are my friends and I use them often. As long as no one comes into my space and starts talking shit, especially since y’all KNOW Sakura is my ride or die, then I’m just living my best life.
