HARRY POTTER HOT TAKES
TBH I miss jily and all the sunshine gryffindor vibes. When did we start to romanticize death eaters like evan rosier and barty crouch like NOT EVERYONE HAS A TRAGIC BACKSTORY SOME OF THEM ARE JUST EVIL. I loveee regulus with all my heart but I absolutely DESPISE jegulus. Like did y'all forget james potter was the no.1 slytherin hater?!
Also I have a bone to pick with people who write jegulus fanfics with LILY SLANDER and WHERE JAMES CHEATS ON HER (I'm coming for yall)
DRACO WAS NOT A TRAUMATIZED LITTLE BABY HE WAS A SPOILED BRAT. He's definitely not better than harry or ron in any way possible. He did not have trauma. And don't even begin to whine about him having a sadder life than harry. FYI harry was orphaned and abused by the dursleys only to come into the Wizarding world and be exploited by Dumbledore and the ministry.
I HATE DRAMIONE/HARIMIONE. That's it. Stop it.
Snape was not a good person and neither was Dumbledore. Snape did not love Lily, he was obsessed with her. Like did everyone forget that he wanted to kill james and harry just so that Lily could be widowed for him? He chose to spy for Dumbledore because it was a safe and comfortable job. Dumbledore literally saved Snape from going to Azkaban and sent sirius instead.

(If a rant about angry/whiny people hating on starchaser without evidence will bring your day down, please scroll lovely, I just want to get some thoughts out!)
-
I hate to be all whingy like this again and I swear I'll try to stop sharing my thoughts on this soon but PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one who's noticed that quite often, a pretty big number of (NOT ALL) jily fans get really angry about Lily being hated and shat on by Jegulus fans but I NEVER see Jegulus fans hating on Lily/jily?? I mean I'm constantly hit with jily fans yelling about how we all hate women and hate that they're canon and erase Lily but I can name probably 1 time I've seen a Jegulus fan hate on Lily and they were an awful person outside of that too. I think they probably haven't actually seen any Jegulus content (especially past the first little layer of it) and just assume that we all hate Lily and jily but we DON'T. And it's really annoying be she obviously people see that and go 'oh my god this is awful' and spread it and then everyone thinks we're horrible and then they spread it and suddenly it's this big epidemic of 'oh my god Jegulus haters all hate Lily and think she's an incubator' when I've never seen any examples of that past like those few weirdos in 2022.
Like I used to love both ships but jily fans have just been getting more and more angry and toxic and saying that I must hate Lily and it's totally pushing me away from liking them anymore bc I don't get why we're being called misogynists and toxic when they're yelling about things almost all of us haven't done? I'm sure there are some but it's really such a minority (and I'm pretty sure most of them are 12 year olds anyway).
Also a little off topic but the 'the series wouldn't exist without jily' is such a weird argument to me too bc I literally never denied that? I never denied that they're canon and I never said that the fandom would exist without them, I just don't care about what's canon. Like I know that if I make Lily a lesbian and decide that she doesn't marry James, Harry wouldn't exist, but I don't really care about the lightning era anyway so I don't get why it's such a common argument.
Sometimes it IS misogyny and we should call that out, but not ALWAYS.
Anyway that's all, it's just getting on my nerves so much lately.

NO BECAUSE BECAUSE BECAUSE.
people who have a healthy relationship with their sibling(s) / dont have siblings are seemingly incapable of understand what sirius and regulus's relationship was like. i know its all up for interpretation and blah blah blah, and "hannah why are you following canon now but you dont care about it the rest of the time?" but, like. their relationship was Not Good.
James was like a brother to Sirius, and James was loyal to a fault. he would NEVER do that to sirius. im sorry but he wouldnt
he just wouldnt
anyway. i dislike jegulus and i am canon regulus's #1 hater
NO REAL. REAL REAL REAL REAL REAL the way the fandom portrays the black brothers’ relationship drives me actually INSANE as someone with a really bad relationship with my sister. like you don’t GET IT they HATED each other UGH
and i do like regulus but it’s just??? so so strange in regards to ALL THREE of their characters (him, sirius & james) to ship him with james?? like. it makes absolutely no sense to me and i get there’s like. angst?? there??? or whatever??? but like??? dude james and regulus hated each other almost as much as sirius and regulus. and not in a fucking enemies to lovers way in a “my brother sees you more as his brother than he does me” and “you have hurt my best friend beyond repair” sort of way like??? like it makes no?????
ughhhh like it just. james cares way too fucking much about sirius and regulus hates james way too much for it to ever happen or make any sense or !!!!!! ugh!!!!!!!
it just bothers me <///3

Jegulus is probably my top ship in terms of most words written and read across any fandom ever.
But prongsfoot has a very very special place in my heart. They mean so much to me. I love them. In a very real way, they're #1 in my heart. They were also first. I loved them before I was even a marauders fan.
But jegulus spaces HATE them.
In a post on my Jegulus blog (that mostly wasn't even about prongsfoot) I got two comments that were infuriating, both boiling down to "agree with everything except prongsfoot is platonic!"
Kindly fuck off with that.
Why do people act like they have a right to put other people's ships down? Why are we trying to fight back against fandom?
You don't have to like mine! Not even a little bit! In fact even if you did, I don't care, because I don't know you and your fandom has no impact on my life!
But I don't want you coming into MY blog, to diss MY ship, and tell me I can't ship who I wanna ship.
I don't go around dissing ships I hate (and oh boy, there are several) because it's not my business who other people ship. I have blocked the tags to try to avoid those ships entirely. And guess what! It works! Try it sometime, haters.

I love when jegulus haters say it wouldn't work because regulus is evil, and he chose to become a deatheater, it wasn't forced onto him. They say he was canonically interested in the dark arts as a kid (which is true), but ignore the fact that
1) you can be interested in something and still know it's morally wrong
2) he also CANONICALLY DIED TRYING TO DESTROY VOLDERMORT
It's the same as people who call James a bully and say he ruined snapes childhood, but it was a very 2 sided thing, he created septumsempra against James, he fought back just as bad as James did.

i would just like to SPECIFY and go into a bit of detail about what each thing actually means:
this may not seem so bad, but when i mean they will comment on anything, i mean anything. it doesnt have to be marauder-related. it doesn’t even need to be related to harry potter. i saw a tiktok on a gorilla eating a banana and someone deadass commented “thats cool and stan james potter 😝” and lord FORBID if you include anything with snape in it. want to make an edit of him? backlash. want to talk about how you like him because hes interestingly written? backlash. want to deconstruct his character due to how badly fanon twisted him and actually analyse him? “anyways stan james potter” may be the dominant response to that, just so you know.
“sirius would never say that about mary!” said the marauder fan, heartbroken. “canon sirius would hate himself in atyd!” i respond usually with “canon sirius is a white boy in the 70s, hes not the ‘slay feminist yass 😍’ king you think he is.” this elicits quite a plethora of negative reactions, and i understand why. misogyny is stinky, no one wants their favourite character to be acting like that. so this option doesn't mean "fans who like a characterisation of sirius black that isn't necessarily time period realistic," but rather "fans who deny canon evidence for a fanon conception and then hate on things that expand on the canon evidence provided to them." "they are wizards, which isn't realistic, but you choose the time period misogyny as a hill to die on?" the marauder fan replied to me (and im quite literally quoting on what a creator said to me, this isn't an exaggeration). meanwhile canon sirius black: *harrasses snape for dressing more femininely/more outside gender norms* yeah and you think that boy would be a feminist...
you may think to yourself: when did [insert ship] become a thing? why is this happening? who even is this person? most of the time, it's all in good fun, sometimes, however, ships are created that purely contradict the entire point of said character. snily was criticised for doing exactly this, and now look at where we are.
after reading these points, you may come to the conclusion: holy shit the problem is just marauders fans. in fact, you may take it one more and remember more shit that had occurred due to this sub fandom of the harry potter universe. ever been criticised for not characterising purely fanon (dorcas, marlene etc etc) characters properly? ever been attacked for calling out the hypocritical stanning of barty, evan, regulus and peter whilst piling all blame onto bellatrix or snape? yeah me too babes.
i know we've talked about tiktok a lot, but i raise one more thing: the inescapable hell that is dracotok. this usually consists of those young teenage girls thinking they are very hardcore for participating in death eater practices despite its mirroring of being violent oppressors on a discriminated group so they can impress none other than draco malfoy. this, or they're the badass 'girlboss' that can change him. completely and ironically misunderstanding the point of his character aside, every cringey POV/thirst trap you have EVER seen on tiktok is probably replicated and 10x worse on dracotok.
i swear i haven't heard the term "gryffindork" since 2016, but alas, there has been a comeback. i call hogwarts legacy fans 'baby' hp fans, because i seriously do believe that these people have not interacted with the fandom until now. that would be okay if they weren't regressing everyone to early 2000s discourse. are gryffindors not being invited to ravenclaw, hufflepuff and slytherin raves that deep? no. but those three houses wouldn't be having raves in the first place
we've all seen them, need i explain or go into detail? "b-but harry doesn't have any chemistry with ginny!!" so he does with DRACO of all people? "b-but lily and james are basic!" dont forget the roots from whence you came. its misogyny within the fandom disguised as allyship or whatever the hell this is. ship your ships, but leave the gals alone
this didn't get on my nerves until i suffered from years and years of randoms going into detail about why slytherin/hufflepuff was the best harry potter house and then getting genuine mad when idgaf. maybe you have experienced this tragedy too. there are grown people getting into genuine online beef with others because they made a joke about slytherin being evil or hufflepuff being useless. makes me think you are just evil and useless (just kidding, but please wake up and realise that slytherin & hufflepuff quite literally do not exist)
i sympathise for people who like snape, i do. i do not sympathise for those who attempt to justify or excuse his actions. this normally comes with a side dish of misogyny, because more often than not they will find a way to blame it on lily. other times, they will blame his trauma. i want to be clear: his trauma explains his actions, it doesn't excuse them. that is the whole point of him ruining his chances with lily (not even as a lover, but as a companion). you are doing your own injustice to his character by trying to make him innocent, please stop
it's understandable why the cursed child is so hated. it's meant to be seen, not read, in my opinion. there's a lot of things in it that i too wish didn't exist. but that doesn't make it "not canon" because it upsets you. and of ALL the things that these types of people would choose to complain about, these are the things they chose: albus potter's namesakes (we've been going on about this for years like can we stop now please), harry being a 'bad dad' (think about his own upbringing a tiny bit more and maybe your brain can make a little more sense of his actions), delphi being voldemort's child (probably the only thing that i agree with these people on), and albus' name again because they REALLY hate it (but then they will counter this by saying "james sirius" is a good name, when it's still mid asf). anyway, it doesn't matter how much you squeeze your eyes shut and writhe around about it, the cursed child is canon. soz lol

I've been kinda a silent observer on the sidelines with this prongsfoot thing and in my opinion, there are a few things going on.
There are the people who are PROMOTING infidelity on Lily because they don't like her as a character and that is ending up in the tags. (In my opinion, this is what's misogynistic, wanting to have Lily disrespected because you don't like her getting in the way).
There are people who just want to EXPLORE infidelity because it's interesting to them. This is all good, it's just like writing about murder but you're not into murdering people yourself.
There are people who really HATE infidelity, and the subset of people who HATE infidelity with Lily see it the same as how Jegulus shippers treat Lily and infidelity (like the fic Choices).
From the sidelines it looks like we're all crossing wires. People in group #2 are the ones stuck in the warfare between 1 and 3. You've got Jegulus antis sort of viscerally reacting to any Lily cheating, and you've got pro-Prongsfoot -anti-Lily people in the same space.
It's kind of like what you see when you find people who ship Wolfstar and Remadora. They're stuck in the middle of the wars on both sides.
There was literally only two people who said they liked it when she gets cheated on because they hate her, and they said that after the asks complaining about it were posted to controversialhpmemes. There are very few Lily haters in the Prongsfoot fandom, and even then they rarely post about it on Tumblr, they mostly complain about her on discord. The people who hate infidelity in fics are entitled to feel that way about the trope, but you can’t call random people misogynists solely because they’ve talked about something bad happening to a fictional woman. Most of the people talking about James cheating on Lily the other day said they didn’t think James would consider it cheating because it was with Sirius, and the people who didn’t think that were also not actually bashing Lily in their posts.
This whole thing is very dumb.

AYO 💕 I'm bored, so here be me, offering 1: a funny rant for entertainment, and 2: an opinion for reflection (primarily mine).
Rant: did you know that jegulus shippers hc that Snape bullied Regulus with the other "bad" slytherins? And even acted predatory?? Legit read a scene where Mulciber manhandled Regulus and Snape watched cool and composed as you please and chided him for "playing with his food", then he himself slammed Regulus against a wall, got up in his face and threatened him. 😭🤡 Meanwhile Sneep and Regulus were probs CEO and COO respectively of the Sirius Black Haters Club. Even indifference from Regulus' part would be more likely than someone like him with an important and infamous family getting bullied by his own housemates, let alone by Snape who was at the bottom of the social ladder. Cringe. 😬
Opinion, a little more weighted. Though the blatant racism in Rowling's writing and characterizations of certain characters is undeniable, I've personally come across a few sjws who imo see it even where it's not. But there are instances where I'm not sure. Like with Shacklebolt, I always thought that the name was about him putting criminals in shackles, being good at his job, not an allusion to slavery. But I'm white and don't know whether black people actually consider it a good point, and just bc something is said or seen w/o bad intention doesn't mean there aren't implicit racist connotations going unnoticed. It's been going around in my head for a while. I summon your illustrious spouse @halfblood-princes-crown who iirc is poc (also realised I'm not following him which, great oversight), and anyone else who'd like to contribute their thoughts.
Hey sweetie! Sorry for the late-ish answer 😭 I completely forgot this was in my drafts
did you know that jegulus shippers hc that Snape bullied Regulus with the other "bad" slytherins? And even acted predatory??
YES OMG, I can’t even explain how stupid it is. Like these mfs really think some poor greasy bullied half-blood Slytherin could even bully a Black (who’s the opposite of everything I mentioned, aside from Slytherin) 💀 plus they both hated Sirius and would legit kill for the people they love so I have a petty headcanon that they’re besties and Sirius HATED it. You just know Reggie would be there when James and Sirius try to target Snape, and when James gets roasted and Sirius tries to join in Reggie would be like “and why are you talking? Don’t you *spills an embarrassing sibling-secret Sirius still does from when they were kids*?” and they’d stand there like 👬) 🤭 Tbh Marauder stans would go to such drastic lengths just so they make it seem like the Marauders bullying Snape was as mild as possible lmao.
But there are instances where I'm not sure. Like with Shacklebolt, I always thought that the name was about him putting criminals in shackles, being good at his job,
I totally understand that! It could be argued that that’s what it meant, because it really is a reasonable perspective……. that is, if Kingsley wasn’t part of the 4% POC characters in the series. Why would she give one of her only black characters a last name that’s meaning was an item used to chain slaves? It was apparently absolutely impossible for her to name any other white auror (basically every other auror) that was good at their job that name?
Along with all that, she’s named the only other Asian character (aside from the Patil twins) Cho Chang, both of which are last names. And it’s clear Rowling’s one of those authors who really put thought into their characters’ names, for example: Severus Snape (his first name directly translates to “stern” or “harsh”), Voldemort (mort means “death,” and when translating each section of the name in French, “vol de mort” it means “flight from death”), Remus Lupin (…wolf wolf 💀), Dolores Umbridge (Latin origins: “lady of sorrows or pain” (psychological or physical), Greek meaning: “deceitful,” Spanish meaning: “pain”), Fenrir Greyback (in Norse mythology: Fenrir is a gigantic and terrible monster, Greyback sounds similar to silverback, which is known as the dominant male in a band of gorillas), Fleur Delacour (“flower of the court”), and so on. I could literally talk about their name meanings for hours. My fave name meanings are Severus’s, Voldy’s (biggest flex is that I already knew this bc it’s French 🤭), Remus’s (😭 I already knew “Lupin”’s meaning because of the wolf (lupus) in mythology), Umbitch’s, and Fleur’s. Tbf Fleur’s full name is so stereotypically French but French names are almost as stunning as she is so I give it a pass.
Anyway, Rowling definitely isn’t one of those authors who give their characters a name they think “just fits them” and goes on with it, almost all of the characters’ names say something about their personalities to an extent. And she’s already a racist and proved it through making an Asian character’s full name consist of one Korean last name (Cho) and one Chinese last name (Chang). So the fact that she named one of her only black characters THAT name definitely must not have anyyy underlying intentions.
I may be a POC but I’m not black, so I’m sure my opinion won’t hold as much water as a black person’s. I’d be interested to hear what y’all think! @halfblood-princes-crown we’re summoning you babe, I wanna hear what you think.
And thanks for the ask btw, you can yell into my inbox whenever you feel like it ❤️

1 and 6 be a hater i want tosee
thank you for the ask!! love to be a hater (well actually it turns out I'm kind of bad at it) 💜
1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?
Okay this one is pretty easy actually and I feel like it's a fast way to make people mad at me but I don't get dramione at all. I don't like it I don't get it I don't think they work. I love them as friends!! like don't get me wrong I think it's cute in fics when they bond over being nerds but I just don't see them together romantically at all. Also Tomione is another one where I'm like ehhh. but otherwise I'm pretty open to most ships. Even ships I've been super against in the past have grown on me and I think I can like any pairing if I read a good enough fic about it.
6. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?
Hmmmm not really? I've got like my little corner of the fandom and I stick to it, so I don't interact in fandom enough to have things ruined. Sometimes I might peek my head into other groups and see what's going on but it's terrifying out there so I retreat to the little writers guild pretty quick haha but maybe Jegulus?? I'd hesitate to say it's ruined for me though. I still love my jegulus fics but I'm definitely stumbling across more and more fics with awful characterisation and poorly disguised self-inserts these days and it's definitely made reading newer jeg fics a bit of a gamble that I'm quickly tiring of. but I stay away from that section of fandom so overall it's not too bad.

Lol I thought I was gonna read crimson rivers despite the fact I’m a blatant jegulus hater and despite the fact I have an essay due tonight bc I’m a hunger games girly at heart and I was curious.
Instead I made it 1 paragraph in, found out the reaping spans from 12 to 25 years old, and that alone was too much canon noncompliance for me.
Too much canon noncompliance in this marauders, hunger games crossover fic (the problem is me 🫥)
