Mercury Retrograde: Tips for Staying Grounded and Focused

Mercury Retrograde: December 13, 2023 - January 1, 2024

For the last few weeks of the year, Mercury is in Retrograde. This transit always brings some chaos. If something can go wrong, it likely will. The best way to deal with the challenges that Mercury Retrograde brings is to slow down, take things one step at a time and remain flexible. With a little effort, we can make it through this challenge.

What is a Mercury Retrograde?

Retrogrades happen when a planet appears to have switched directions. It’s an illusion caused by Earth’s relation to the planet. It produces that trippy feeling, like being on a train and watching another in parallel motion. Most planets have Retrogrades, but Mercury’s effects are often felt more strongly.

Mercury Retrograde always brings its old tricks, frustrations and delays. It will usually throw us off with communication problems, misunderstandings, technical difficulties, travel delays, and general frustration. Plans can go awry and be reconsidered. New information can come up to change a situation. Maybe there is a change in goals or priorities. This is why flexibility is important to survive Mercury Retrograde with the least frustration.

This isn’t a great time to make contracts, promises, start a relationship or launch anything new. It can be a good time to reflect and plan for those things. Intuition is high at this time and coincidences can be extraordinary.

Mercury in Sagittarius Influence

This Mercury Retrograde moves back into Sagittarius, which is known for being spontaneous and fun-loving. We could find ourselves feeling giddy and reckless as the year wraps up. We could feel more open to risk-taking, but remember that cheap thrills are not always fulfilling.

Mercury in Capricorn Influence

Capricorn is known for its stability, which may give some semblance of order in the chaos. We may take a hard look at our finances, goals, and what’s keeping us from achieving them. Capricorn gets a bad rap for ruthless practicality, but when Mercury rolls into this sign, it gives a chance to break out of any delusions, limiting patterns and old belief systems. There is a will to problem-solve and put the pieces back together. We can use this Retrograde period to build strong foundations for our goals in the coming year.

How can Mercury Retrograde help us?

It’s beneficial to reflect and revisit things to determine what is and isn’t working. Review what we are putting your energy toward. For example, if our friends are important to us, have we put in the effort to reach out and spend time with them? Or are we overextending when it comes to our career and our relationships are suffering? Reflect on what is important and how we can bring more attention to those areas.

Journaling is a great activity for Mercury Retrograde. Mercury enjoys writing, and it’s a great way to navigate our brains and find what is bothering us and what is amazing. Having a gratitude list can help us to remain positive during this difficult time.

It’s also a great time to have a creative outlet. Find a way to be creative by browsing Pinterest for craft and recipes. Try painting or grab a coloring book. Try blogging. We never know what we might learn when we try new things.

Mercury Retrograde is a great time to take a step back from Social Media and general socializing! Take a day (or two) to completely unplug. One of the best things to do is relax! Hibernate and snuggle up with a favorite movie. Have a spa night. Enjoy time to yourself!

How to Survive!

Truly, there is nothing to worry about while Mercury is in Retrograde. It’s a reminder to slow down and check the details. The best thing to do is remain flexible, patient and understanding. Allow extra time for travel. Double check your email responses. Avoid big plans and new contracts if we can!

Review projects and plans, but wait until Mercury is direct again to make a final decision. We can’t stop your life, but we can plan ahead, have back-up plans and be prepared for people’s miscommunication. Be thoughtful and patient. Heat of the moment reactions are not usually good for our future well-being.

Take a moment to reflect. It’s an excellent time to reanalyze who you are and what you’re doing. Just refrain from any drastic changes until after retrograde has ended.

If mistakes happen, life won’t end! These are just a few things we can do to make it easier.

♇ could be escapists through drug and sex, they could also find it hard to accept their dark-self. easily infatuated people, people can get easily obsessed with them as they can get with other people.

Your family or friends may be very well known and you’re very quiet which for some reason attract a lot of rude people to you like someone may try to cut you off in line and you call them out now they’re embarrassed. You could have to deal with confrontation a lot or have disciplinary hearings like someone was always telling on you trying to get you into trouble 😂you’re literally so quiet half the time but you also speak multiple languages so you could be part foreign and people assume you’re dumb bc you’re foreign smh.. you could be into spirituality or some associates from school or your neighborhood could have seen you in your traditional dress maybe you’re of Asian/Indian descent or you’re Muslim … if you’re into spirituality people actually watch your YT, tiktoks or listen to your tarot readings and may blame you for being right like😂 I was just trying to warn you. Like you’ll go home and forget that even happened and if you are sensitive and it hurts your feelings people are threatened by you and sometimes that’s just life and both life and people can be sucky but you’re not here n this lifetime for people your here to share your research findings and your creativity/art. Watch out, Mercury is retrograde again!

Mercury is retrograde from December 13 to January 1, so if you have Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Capricorn Sun/Venus/Rising, be careful what you do with your appearance during this time.

As a Gemini or Virgo Sun/Venus/Rising, Mercury retrogrades are always affecting your appearance.

Capricorn Sun/Venus/Rising would be affected by this retrograde only until December 23, since that's when Mercury will leave Capricorn and go back into Sagittarius. So after December 23, Capricorn placements can rest easy.

After December 23, it's Sagittarius placements (Sun, Venus, Rising) that need to be careful.

If you have any of these placements, you need to be careful with your appearance. Avoid changes, since they won't work out and you may like them for the time being, but after the retrograde is over, you might think "What have I done??"

🗣 Not professional astrologer! It’s only based on my own experience, people that i know, and self-observation. So please take with grain of salt! :D

Venus in Libra peeps could be those who keep nagging about how they want a relationship so bad. (i know a few people in my life with this placement and they can't stop complaining about how single they are help)

Leo moon are lying to themselves if they say they don't like attention. (perhaps don't realize it yet?)

A lot of Venus in Virgo people that i know at some point in their life will questioning whether they really want a marriage or not. (yeah me too)

Someone said "i can't see myself getting married. I don't know, it seems unrealistic to me" yeah you are Virgo Venus in 12th house retrograde.

I mean, Venus in Virgo itself already make this person picky when it comes to love, and then the confusion and unrealistic idea they had because of the neptune influence. And in retrograde? jeez. i believe they have been in a relationship but then the relationship they had never meet their expentation because this people have a hopeless romantic idea of what romance is.

Venus in Sagittarius / 9th need a lot of freedom. Have a special place for foreigner in ther heart. Love someone who can keep up with their wild energy. Love people who is aware of society problem. Might also into smart people. Probably like to joke around with people close to their heart as well. (or people in general)

Moon in 7th house / Moon in Libra find comfort from being around people.

Friend of mine have 7th stellium (5 planet) and i swear to god, the attachment issues they have with is not a joke. They struggle with being on their own and need someone approval in every aspect of their life. Feel like they are incomplete if they're single. Too selfless, too giving. Later in life, people with this placement might have to realize that they should learn to stand on their on feet.

Neptune in 3rd house might having a hard time to communicate what they want to say. They also might say something they don't mean.

Uranus in 3rd house saying something in such a random way. i can't understand you sometimes,,,,,,

Chiron in 2nd house peeps could deal with feeling unworthy and feel unsave. They could feel guilty if they spend money on themselves. My Friend with this placement struggle with fear of end up lacking money all the time.

1. Jupiter or Venus in the 8th house. The 8th house rules the business side of marriage and rules joint finances. When one or both benefics are placed in this house it can mean marrying someone who is very financially capable and doesn’t hesitate to shoulder any financial hardships you might have

2. Venus in the 11th house. The 11th house much like the 2nd house is a money house but unlike the 2nd house, the 11th house is the house of dreams and gains from your work. It’s also the house of the collective/society/influencing the masses so this can strongly indicate marrying someone who is both popular and wealthy and the love of your life helping you reach your goals. Since the 11th house rules our dreams, People with Venus in the 11th tend to get lucky with manifesting the relationship of their dreams. ( 11th house placements in general just tend to get lucky with manifesting their dreams and things in the collective, just wanted to add :) )

3. Venus in Taurus/the 2nd house or in Capricorn/the 10th house. I don’t think this requires too much explaining, these two Venus signs tend to attract well put together and responsible partners that place a lot of importance on financial stability

4. Venus conjunct part of fortune. The part of fortune is a point in our chart that talks about fortunate circumstances in our life and is one of the main significators of prosperity in one’s life. This point gets greatly amplified when it sits in the 1st,4th,5th, 7th,10th or 11th house or when it’s forms a trine, sextile or conjunction with the two benefics Venus or Jupiter. When it’s with Venus it greatly increases the chances of having a successful marriage especially where one is taken care of by their s/o and just being able to attract all Venus related themes into their life

5. Jupiter in the 7th house/in opposition to the ascendant. The 7th house is an angular house and rules one’s one on one relationships so Jupiter being here usually points to someone who attracts multiple lovers who open up doors in life for them to succeed/successful partnerships especially more earlier in life (this is STILL applicable if Jupiter is in retrograde)

6. Venus in literally ANY aspect to Jupiter within an orb of 3°. Venus-Jupiter works very similarly to Jupiter In the 7th. Venus and Jupiter are both benefics in astrology like I mentioned above and Venus rules marriage so when in contact with Jupiter it can mean attracting successful spouse especially ones from another culture (disclaimer: the hard and harsh aspects like conjunction, square and opposition could indicate someone with wandering eyes or you might attract successful lovers who have a wandering eye cause Jupiter is more than just the planet of abundance, it’s also the planet of greed)

If you have 2 or more of these in your natal or D9 navamsa chart congratulations, it’s more than guaranteed your spouse will be someone very successful

Energy Update: Mercury retrogrades 12/13/23

This is your Monday morning reminder that Mercury stations retrograde on Wednesday (12/13) - things may be moving like molasses this week. If you can't get anywhere right now, know that you are right on time.

Mercury retrogrades almost always come with some significant tech snafus so save often and double-check your work before you press that "Send" button. Watch out for misunderstandings as well; people are rarely at their best during this time. If it's not a big deal, don't make it a big deal. Patience and flexibility are the main things that help with mitigating some of the worst of the situations that come up during this transit.

That said, Mercury retrograde is not all bad. It's merely another regularly scheduled energy shift in our cosmos (it happens 3-4 times a year). This is business as usual but it's often showing up to a "Out for lunch, be back in 2 hours" sign when you need something done right meow.

Mercury is the great Traveller, they are both the fastest-moving planet and the one that moves into and out of retrograde the most often. This journey is a cosmic reminder that it is both important to move forward in life AND to retrace our steps to gain greater understanding.
