“What are you? A wallflower?” The words come out of your mouth with a particular tone, not one that you had initially intended. Alcohol always tends to do this, making you a bit more loose and unaware of your actions. It was such a drastic change from your normally reserved nature. Phoenix had always teased you about it, saying you became a completely different person when you drank. Eyes narrowed at you behind the glasses, his eyebrows knitting together. But there was a confused smile to the questioning look, one that made your heart flutter.
“I don’t really know what that means.” A rosy flush tinted his cheeks, taking a drink from his beer bottle. You raised an eyebrow, questioning his reply. A gentle smirk pulled at his lips while he looked at your expression. “What?”
“Are you being serious?” All of it was too cute. The way his lips curved into that half smile, words barely forming in his mouth. He took a sip of his beer while shaking his head no. “Like you know,” you nudged his arm with your elbow while your brain buzzed, “someone who knows everything but isn’t a part of it. Stays on the wall of things.” He raised his eyebrows again, biting at his lower lip while you watched him.
“I mean, kind of.” A bit of nervousness laced those words, pointing out that you might have hit some form of nerve. A pang of guilt shot through you, the weight of your words finally catching up.
“Hey, I’m really sorry. I… I shouldn’t have said anything.” A soft look settled on his features, taking in your apology.
“No, you’re good. My friends are alway on my ass about not putting myself out there. I don’t mind, it was just an observation anyways.” You couldn’t help but stare as he adjusted his glasses, pushing the wire frames back up the bridge of his nose. You offered him an awkward smile before taking a drink from your beer. You leaned up against the wall next to his chair, the two of you silently deciding to watch the room together. It had seemed that your friends disappeared from the bar, or maybe your brain just wasn’t registering them anymore. That’s when an idea popped into your brain.
“Do you wanna go do a shot? Maybe two?” He was mid drink of his beer when the words hit him. His eyebrows knitted together slightly, a look of thought on his face. You watched the him intently, finishing off the drink in your cup.
“Ah, sure.”
-
“Eight hours? How?” A tone of shock was laced in your words, your facial features reflecting the same level of shock.
“It was a big lego set! Like,” he paused for a moment to think, “a lot of pieces.” The two of you laughed at the thought of it. The both of you were five shots later and giggling all over the bar of the Hard Deck. The two of you had chatted about mundane things at first but slowly ventured out. The conversation had covered movie favorites to TV show horrors. Lego sets were the new topic, a personal favorite of the new man that had captured your heart tonight.
The two of you were beyond the point of driving, making you thank yourself for getting a rental unit close to the bar. You knew this man wasn’t able to drive either, not sure whether his friends had also ditched him like yours had. The intention of the night wasn’t to bring someone back home with you. But after being the one who suggested the shots, you felt obligated to take care of him. Bringing him home would be simply that, taking care of him.
A source of warmth brushed your thigh, pulling you from your thoughts instantly. The look on his face had changed when you weren’t paying attention. It was a soft look but different from all of his other ones, but with a hint of lust. A heat filled your cheeks, his eyes meeting yours. His hand settled on your thigh, not leaving its place this time. The warmth from his palm radiated into you, making you borderline nuclear.
“This is gonna sound weird, but do you wanna crash at mine?” It was his turn for his cheeks to fill with heat, a blush blossoming over them. Lips parting slightly then closing again, his words not forming in his mouth. Panic had started to creep its way into you. “If you don’t want to though I get it-”
“I’d love to.” A flutter in your chest was all you felt, the panic melting away. He hopped off his bar stool, the hand on your thigh lifting off for only a second. He offered his hand out to you, taking it as you got off your own bar stool. The both of you fished out bills to leave the bartender before leaving.
The cool air was sobering, helping your brain start processing that you were bringing this man home with you. This man that you hadn’t learned the name of yet. “Wait, wait, wait.” The walk had barely started, the both of you on the shoulder of the road until you hit the sidewalk. One of his eyebrows cocked up, a questioning look on his face. “You’re not gonna kill me right? Cause like I don’t even know your name, and now you’re coming home with me and I just have too much going to die like this.” Word soup. Another favorite trait you acquired when drunk.
A strong silence hung between the two of you, a car passing by to break it. A giggle started emanating from him, making it your turn to have a questioning look. The wrinkles near his eyes made your heart warm, the almost undetectable shake of his head catching your eye. His arm wrapped around your shoulders, pulling you close into his chest as he started walking the two of you down the side of the road again.
“I’m not gonna kill you, I promise.” A small pause had you, metaphorically, on the edge of your seat. “But my name is Bob.”
Bob stumbled through the doorway behind you, hands low on your back. Bob walked a little bit further into the foyer of your house. After you closed the door you pressed your back onto it, you watched Bob lean against the wall. His jaw was tipped up towards the ceiling, staring into the dark abyss. Your fingers crept over to the light switch, flicking the switch and illuminating the area.
“Wowza.” The light seared Bob’s eyes, him squeezing them shut. A giggle crept up inside you, pushing off the door you walked over to him. Bob rolled his head to look at you, opening one eye open. “What are you laughing about?” A big smile tugged at his lips, his body turning to meet yours. The two of you burst out into a laugh, his arm reaching out and pulling you closer to him.
Heat bubbled up into your cheeks, cerulean orbs staring into your own. A gulp was audible, not sure whether it came from you or Bob. One of his hands trailed up, a finger ghosting over your cheek. The warmth of his body covered yours, sending a small shiver down your spine. Your gaze flicked to his lips then back up to his eyes. Bob leaned in close, his hot breath caressing the shell of your ear. Suddenly, he was pulling away from you, hand gently resting on your face now.
“I.. I’m sorry.” A worried look had settled onto his features. Your hand covered Bob’s as you looked at him.
"Sorry for what?" Alarms had started going off in your brain. Did you do something wrong? Was bringing him back a mistake? Was he actually going to kill you?
"I…" A softness gathered in his eyes now. "I was gonna kiss you." Your heart fluttered at his words, the heat in your cheeks burning more intensely. “But.. we are inebriated.” It was cute, his use of such a technical word. You shifted a little bit closer to him, only mere inches in between your bodies. You moved to the balls of your feet, pressing your forehead to Bob’s. That perfect cerulean gaze meeting yours.
“Kiss me.” There was a small pause before you felt his lips met yours. It was a gentle kiss, one that you would have expected from a man like him. Bob slowly backed you up against the wall, his one hand staying on your cheek while the other moved to your hip. The hint of alcohol still lingered on the both of you, becoming drunk on each other now. His hips pressed towards you, pinning you against the wall.
Fingers threaded into Bob’s hair, bumping his glasses and making them go slightly askew. His tongue moved over your bottom lips, asking for permission to slide into your mouth. Your lips parted for him, allowing his tongue to swirl around yours, exploring your mouth freely. You pressed your hips into his, rolling them up against his. The hand on your cheek moved along your jaw, pushing back some hair back from your face.
Slowly the two of you undressed each other. A trail of clothes led from the foyer to your bedroom; you flicked the lights on when you passed the door frame of the room. Both your brains were still in a haze from the alcohol. His lips were like fire against your skin, nipping and mouthing the skin of your neck. One hand cradled your face while the other wrapped around your body; palm pressing between your shoulder blades. The pressure of his palm kept you pressed tight against him. The edge of your bed pressed into the back of your knees.
You climbed onto the bed, waiting for Bob to meet you on it. The only article of clothing left to take off were his boxer briefs. You sat on the edge of the bed, fingers toying with the band of his boxer briefs. Bob’s mouth was slightly agape, watching your fingers hook under the elastic band. His cheeks reddened even more, gaze stuck on your fingers as they started to drag his underwear down. His cock sprang free, tip glistening with a small amount of precum.
“That feels so good.” A shaky breath left Bob as he felt your tongue lap at his cock. His hand rested on the back of your head; guiding you slowly as you started bobbing up and down his cock. You looked up at him through your lashes, seeing him adjust his glasses. A moan fell from his mouth every now and then.
You let your spit start to drool down your chin, gathering at the curve of your jaw. Bob brought his free hand to your mouth, groaning while his thumb gathered the drool on your chin. He moved his thumb around your lips, stretched out around his cock as you looked up at him.
“I could stare at you like this forever.” Bob let out a raspy groan when you pulled off of him, tongue dragging along the underneath of his cock.
“That so?” It was the first thing that passed your lips, a small challenge to him. Bob smirked, his thumb rubbing spit on your bottom lip.
“Let me taste you.” Bob’s words were barely above a whisper, almost begging you. His thumb stayed on your lip as you nodded. He sank down onto his knees, both of his hands trailing down your chest. You draped your legs off the bed, him settling between them. His hands palmed at your breasts, thumbs rubbing your nipples. He leaned in, taking one of your nipples into his mouth.
Bob felt like he was in heaven when your back arched, pressing your chest further into his face. Having someone of this beauty want him? It shocked him. But he kept swirling his tongue around your nipple, his other hand trailing down to your clothed cunt. He let out a moan when he pressed his fingers against your cunt, feeling how wet you were.
“Got this wet from blowing me?” Bob questioned, kissing down your sternum and stomach.
“Got a little excited,” you lifted your hips to help him pull your panties off, “at the idea of you inside me.” Bob kissed his way back up your leg, starting at your mid calf and ending on the inside of your thigh. His lust blown eyes stared at you through his glass. He flattened his tongue and dragged it through your folds. You dropped your head back, holding yourself up on your elbows.
Bob kept up with these languid licks for only a moment longer. He started flicking his tongue against your clit, making you whine loudly. Bob brought his arms around your thighs, locking you in place against his mouth. He kept up his assault, randomly alternating the flicks and stroke of his tongue. At some point you had laid back completely on the bed, back arching hard when he sucked on your clit.
“Oh my..” Your mouth was agape, moans and his name flowing freely from it. His right hand left your thigh, snaking up to your breast and squeezing it.
“You sound like an angel.” Bob moaned, keeping his focus on your clit. His other hand left your thigh, coming down and pushing a finger inside of you. Your walls clenched around the finger, him thrusting it in tandem with his licks. Your hand moved down to his hair, almost catching his glasses in the process. Fuck, those glasses were really doing a number on you.
A second finger entered you, then a third quickly. They were pushing and prodding against that sensitive spot inside of you. “Bob,” you looked down at him, “please..”
“Let go, angel.” It quickly became too much, your orgasm rocking through you. You clenched around his fingers like a vice grip, his tongue giving languid strokes to your clit. Your legs began to shake as Bob kept going, not stopping anytime soon. His fingers kept working you while he started flicking his tongue on your clit again.
“Fu-ck, Bob!” You grabbed at his hair, pulling it hard enough to get his mouth off you. His fingers followed soon after, an empty feeling replacing them. Bob audibly gulped as he looked at you, shaking and already thoroughly fucked. A small kiss was pressed to the inside of your thigh, Bob resting his head against the expanse of your exposed inner thigh. The thin metal frames of his glasses pressing into your skin. A comforting smile was on Bob’s lips, making your heart melt as your orgasm finally started to subside.
“That… was amazing.” You whispered as you laid back on the bed, your hands settling on your stomach. Bob placed a few more kisses on your thigh, moving up your stomach to meet you face to face. Your hands cupped his face, pulling him down into a kiss. Your fingers played with the metal frames of his glasses slightly. There was a small devilish smirk on his face when he broke the kiss.
"I'm glad you liked it," his arm snaked under your lower back, "but I'm not finished yet." There was that confidence he liked to keep hidden away. His arm tightened around your waist, hiking you up on the bed more. Bob had you in the middle of your bed quickly, settling himself between your legs.
"I shouldn't need these anymore." Bob took off his glasses, setting them on the right bedside table. Bob leaned down and captured your lips again. His forearm was near your head, holding up a majority of his weight. Your legs were spread out for him, one of either side of his waist. One hand traveled up and down your sides, soothing and calming you while moving his cock closer to your cunt.
"You ready?" Bob questioned with a peck to your cheek.
"More than ready." Bob brought the hand from your side down to his shaft, lining himself up. Bob kept his eyes on your face, watching how your eyes fluttered when he ran himself through your folds. The head of his cock rubbing on your clit, sending small waves of pleasure through you.
"Bob." It was a plea. You didn't want teasing, you wanted him stretching you out. Bob bit his lower lip and nodded, the tip of his cock pressing at your entrance.
The stretch of his cock had your head thrown back. Bob let out a soft groan when he sank inside of you. Your warmth welcomed him more and more until he bottomed out. His eyes followed down your chest, watching your chest rise and fall. He brought his hand to the side of your thigh, hiking it up further on his hip. Bob nuzzled into your neck, nipping and kissing at the skin.
"So tight." Bob practically whimpered, his hips slowly pulling back just to slowly press forward. The slow thrusts were agonizing. One of your hands threaded through his hair, your other arm draping around his shoulders. Just as you were about to say something, his thrusts picked up.
Moans poured from your mouth, the head of his cock zeroing in on the sensitive spot inside you. Your walls were clenching hard around him, encouraging Bob to fuck you a little harder. Bob pulled back from your neck, watching your face for a moment. "Wanna see you."
Suddenly, his thrusts stopped. Bob got up and sat back on his heels, keeping your legs spread wide apart. You were at his mercy now, your entire body on full display for him. "This way I can see all of you."
Without hesitation Bob pressed back into you, resuming the pace he was previously at. That sensitive spot being targeted once more. Your hands dug into the comforter underneath you, back arching with pleasure.
It felt like his whole world was spinning, watching you underneath him was beyond intoxicating. Bob watched his cock push in and out of you, watching it stretch you open. The way your tits bounced with every forward thrust had his mouth watering. Groans flowed from him as he watched you become more fucked out.
"You're so fucking pretty." Bob grabbed your legs and set them up on one of his shoulders. His arms tightened around them, keeping your legs closed and tight. The sounds of skin smacking and your wet cunt filled the room. You felt that familiar sensation of an orgasm approaching.
Bob knew you were close again, the clenching of your walls signaling it. Bob started thrusting harder, pounding the sensitive bundle. "Bob, I- oh fuck! Bob!" You tightened around his cock, your orgasm crashing hard. His cock slid in and out of you, fucking you through your orgasm.
"That's it, that's it angel." Bob cooed, talking and fucking you through it. But his hips never slowed, keeping you at some form of high still. Bob moved your legs so one was on each of his shoulders. He watched himself fuck into you for a moment, his eyes flicking to yours.
Bob’s head fell back, his thrusts never faltering as he let out a loud breath. You dragged your hands down his abdomen, “Bob, oh my-”
“One more, I need one more.” The hand on your left calf moved to your clit, thumb rubbing tight circles on the sensitive bud. He started thrusting faster, keeping the circles tight and quick on your clit. The tightness in your abdomen had already returned, the overstimulation pushing out a rolling orgasm.
When your insides clenched around his cock this time Bob lost it. His hips started to stutter while whimpers fell from his lips. Your hands were both now gripping the comforter, borderline screams falling from your lips. His whimpers turned to groans as his orgasm arrived. Bob pulled his cock out, leaving you empty. He pressed his cock between your folds, rubbing it between them. He unloaded himself all over your clit and cunt, spreading his cum all through your folds.
Bob whimpered out a small ‘fuck’, watching himself fuck his cum through your folds. Your hips shook with pleasure, the slick wet feeling of his cum making you clench. Bob’s hands moved to your legs, rubbing the outside of your legs soothingly. He stopped his movements, looking down at you with an equally fucked out look. You finally registered his new look.
A deep red blush covered his chest to cheeks, hair tousled and messy, with a thin layer of sweat covering him. He sat back on his heels, tilting his head to the side and cocking an eyebrow. His chest was rising and falling fast as he regulated his breathing. “Sorry..” Your eyebrows knitted together at his apology, wondering why he would be apologizing.
“Why?”
“Was it too much?” Bob asked, leaning down and pressing a soft kiss to the inside of your knee. You took in a deep breath, trying to regulate your own breathing.
“No, it was really hot.” You smiled as he removed himself from you. Bob laid down next to you, staring at you as you looked at him. “Huh?”
“Nothing, I’m glad you enjoyed it.” You rolled your eyes, surprised that the man that just fucked your brains out would think he didn’t please you. “Uh.. where can I.. clean up?”
It was cute, watching him now slightly awkwardly ask for the clean up. You nodded your head and started sitting up, Bob quickly getting up to help you. Your legs were still shaky as Bob helped you walk to the bathroom.
The two of you cleaned up, Bob being as gentle as possible when he cleaned his come off you. The warm washcloth helped soothe the now slightly raw flesh between your legs. Bob quietly waited outside of the bathroom, waiting for you to pee so he could help walk you back to bed. Bob helped you back to the bed, the both of you slipping on your undergarments and you putting on a big t-shirt before climbing under the covers. The two of you quickly fell asleep, Bob holding you from behind tightly.
The loud noise of the alarm woke the two of you up. Bob sat up swiftly, surprised by the unfamiliar surroundings. You reached out, hand soothingly rubbing his thigh. “Hey, it’s okay.” Bob gave you a weak smile, laying back down next to you. The two of you laid there for a few minutes before getting up. You watched as Bob gathered his clothes, dressing himself after finding them all.
“Do you wanna stay for breakfast?” Bob shook his head no.
“I’d love to,” he moved to grab his glasses from the side table, “but I can’t. I gotta go get ready for work.” He offered you a weak smile, hating having to turn down your offer. You gave him a smile, getting out of bed and walking him to the door. You gave him a goodbye kiss before he left.
“Maybe I’ll see you around?” You asked. Bob gave you another smile, a blush creeping onto his cheeks.
“Yeah, maybe.”
Your morning moved by quickly, shower, breakfast, memories from last night, driving to work. The typical things in your routine. You sat in your car before getting out, thinking about the events of your night. God, you really hoped to see Bob again. If not, at least he gave you a memorable night.
“Quiet this morning, Howler.” Phoenix teased while zipping up her flight suit. “Where’d you disappear to last night?”
“Home. I went home.” You zipped up the front of your suit.
“With?”
“You wouldn’t know him.” You really didn’t want her to know about your escapade last night. Halo chuckled at the two of you.
“Chances are high, if he is a pilot I mean.”
“That’s why.” The three of you giggled as you all finished up. All of you made your way to the hanger, seeing the typical two person tables set up. A few people were already sitting down at the tables. Hangman, Coyote, and someone you didn’t know. They turned around and it hit you. Bob. The man how fucked your brains out was sitting in front of you. His eyes flicked between all of you, landing on you last. They were glued to you, making you stop in your tracks. Of course this would happen, why wouldn’t it?
“What? You scared, Howler?” Jake yelled out, eyes drifting down your stare to Bob. He cocked an eyebrow, staring at the both of you. Hangman didn’t say anything else, turning to make a snide comment at Phoenix. You swiftly made your way to the table behind Bob.
“What the fuck?” You whispered. Bob was bright red, his embarrassment obvious. The confidence he had last night being tucked away.
“I didn’t.. you’re a pilot?” Bob questioned, adjusting his glasses and trying to keep his gaze low while the two of you talked.
“You are too, apparently.” Bob smiled awkwardly, giving a small nod. You couldn’t help but admire how cute he looked like this.
“Gonna introduce me to your friend?” Rooster joked when he sat down next to you. Bradley nudged your arm with his elbow in an encouraging way.
“This.. this is Bob. He is a..”
“WSO. I’m a WSO.” Phoenix pulled that chair next to Bob out, a big grin on her face. Fuck, she knew.
“My most recent backseater.” Her grin painful to you. The teacher started the class, silencing the conversation you all were having.
The class felt like it dragged on. You needed it to end, needed to talk to Bob. Privately. When all of you were dismissed you leaned over your table, getting a knowing smirk from Rooster and Phoenix. Bob turned around when you tapped him on his shoulder. His cheeks were still rosy, making you wonder if he had been blushing all class. “You, me, private.” Bob nodded and got up, the two of you awkwardly excusing yourself from the group for a moment.
The both of you were silent in the side hallway for a moment. He was facing you on one side of the hallway, you leaning against the other side. “So..” You lead.
“I’m sorry, I should have told you.” Bob apologized, making your heart break a little.
“Don’t apologize. I didn’t say anything either.” You said, not wanting him to feel bad. There was nothing wrong with either of you forgetting to mention that you were pilots. “It’s not like we knew we’d be in this group together.” Bob took a few step towards you. His right hand grabbing your left hand, fingers lacing between yours. A smile crept on your lips at his affection. It was something you could get used to.
“At least now we get to see each other again.” Bob’s words were sincere and full of affection. His heart fluttered as he watched you.
“Yeah, I guess we do.” You heard some footsteps, the both of you looking down the hallway to see Natasha.
“Hurry up you two! We are getting ready to head up!” Once she stepped out of sight Bob pressed a kiss to your cheek. It was your turn for a heat to fill your cheeks at the gesture. A happiness spreads through you, glad that he was going to become a constant in your life.

First there was a storm of carbon and molten rock which begat granite and soil. Then, the land shook and it cracked and it rose till it spiked the sky. Forest grew and died and grew a hundred times again. And then people grew and died and grew and died a hundred times again. There were storms and seasons and fences and blood. Wonder and vengeance and a whole lot of regret….
And through every grievance, every war, the land and the sky didn't give two shits about any of it. Bob Floyd knew that as he and his front seater, Natasha Phoenix Trance, fell through the sky in a tin bird designed by man, for man to destroy other men….
That it wouldn't give two shits about them either.
“Extinguishing right engine!” There were far too many sounds coming from every system possible as Phoenix tried to regain control of the F-18 that seemed impossible to wrangle. All Bob could think about in those utterly terrifying moments was you.
He’d always made it a promise to come home to you. He knew how much you worried about him, how much the thought of being left behind ping ponged around in your brain. How sometimes you'd stay up all hours of the night hoping that wherever he was and whatever ocean he flew across that he was okay. That he was safe and that he;d come home to you.
Robert Floyd had made you a promise he had every intention of keeping, but he wasn't so sure he could.
“Phoenix, Bob! Punch out! Punch out!” Maverick shouted through the comms as he chased the rogue fighter jet down. Bob looked around at all the warnings flashing in his face, there was nothing left to save except themselves.
“Phoenix there’s warning lights everywhere, we’re in hydraulic failure!” All Bob prayed for in those terrifying moments as his colleagues watched on in pure shock horror from the ground below was that he’d get a chance to tell you he loved you again.
He always told you that he’d come home, that there wasn’t a chance in hell that he wouldn’t. You knew better than to believe Government Property though, Bob knew you knew that there was always a chance. So he promised in the event of his untimely demise that he’d come back to you and wiggle your earlobe. To let you know he made it safe and sound. That you need not worry about him anymore.
You promised him the same thing, because working from home was just as terrifying as flying a multimillion dollar fighter jet.
“I can’t control it!” But as the ground grew closer and closer, Bob knew he wasn’t ready to die, he wasn’t ready to leave you behind and he certainly wasn’t ready to not meet his unborn child.
“We’re going down, Phoenix! We’re going in! We’re going in!” He wasn’t ready to wiggle your ear.
“You can’t save it! eject, eject!” Maverick shouted again, he was watching on like he’d been sucked into some kind of timeloop. He’d seen this happen before. Only he lost his best friend when to this day he thought it should have been him.
“Eject! Eject! Eject!” Were the last three words Bob heard escape from Phoenix’s mouth before he was reaching between his legs to pull at the emergency yellow and black striped handle that sent him flying out of the cockpit. He’d been taught how to handle a situation like this, they all had. Every single naval aviator currently on active duty had been taught what to do when they needed to eject.
But when Bob's head hit the top of the cockpit? He didn’t care for procedures and protocol and what he should or shouldn’t have done in the moment, all he cared about was you and holding on to whatever consciousness he had left as he tumbled through the sky at a rapid pace. Reaching for his parachute in just the nic of time.
Knowing if he hit the ground where the land had shook and cracked and rose till it spiked the sky that it wouldn’t have given a shit. It wouldn’t have been all that forgiving and it certainly wouldn’t have mourned his untimely demise.
So Bob faught until he hit the ground with a not so graceful thud, he hit the ground hard—with an almighty groan as his ribs popped and his head throbbed inside his helmet.
“Ahhh!” He gasped as he clutched at his stomach, forgetting how to breathe as the darkness of tunnel vision claimed its next victim. Unconsciousness overcoming its latest casualty:
Bob Floyd.
***~***~***~***~***~***~***~
Bob had asked you once when you were wrapped up in his arms in the dead of the night, listening to the storm raging on outside if you knew anything at all about a Greek God called Chronos. When you had chuckled out a soft no as his lips trailed up your neck and his slightly calloused hands roamed your body like they knew every inch, Bob told you that he carried a sickle, that he used it to cut a hole, a tear in the cosmos between heaven and earth. Chronos did that to separate this world from the next, to separate the known from the unknown.
And while someone by the name of Pete Mitchell told you over the phone that your husband had been involved in a training accident….
Well—you felt as if you'd fallen straight into it.
You felt like you'd fallen into the cosmic existence between now and soon to come, plummeting into a realm where time didn’t exist and light didn’t reach. You tumbled into a parallel dimension where nothing made sense, nothing seemed tangible or real. You descended into a world where Bob Floyd wasn’t around.
“Your husband was involved in an accident during a training exercise this afternoon—“.
At the sound of Pete Maverick Mitchell’s voice explaining that there had been an accident on base during an exercise—you begun to crack, you started slipping further and further into the unknown because Bob had always said he’d never leave and if he did you’d feel him tugging on your earlobe to let you know he got there safe and sound.
There was no one tugging on your earlobe though, no soul that had passed on or ghostly figure watching over you. What there was though, was a radiating warmth between your legs. A wetness that shouldn't have been there.
Had your water just broken?
“Oh—oh god.” You gasped as you looked down, gripping the side of the kitchen island as you groaned out a prolonged, primal moan. You were in labour there was no doubt about it. “Ahh.”
“Mrs Floyd? Are you alright?” The voice on the other end of the line asked with a confused undertone as you watched the seconds tick past on the ongoing call.
“I uh—“ You tried to speak, tried to make sense of what you were hearing, what you were experiencing. Pain in every aspect both physically, emotionally and mentally. “I think my water just broke.”
“Oh—“ Maverick couldn’t suppress his shock nor could he disguise his sudden state of disbelief. “Oh okay, I’ll uh—I'll have an ambulance come by right away.” You replied with a sharp groan. Doubling over as you felt how hard your stomach had truly become. This was happening, everything was happening all at once and you had lost focus in the pain of both worrying about the state your husband was currently in and the fact your baby was on their way. “Mrs Floyd, someone will be there very soon, I’m gonna stay on the line with you until they arrive.”
“I need Bob—“ You’d begun to cry as you kneeled on the kitchen floor before you decided that sitting up against the cabinet with your legs outstretched felt a hell of a lot more comfortable. “I need my husband, I can't do this without him.” You felt warm tears streaming down your cheeks as your bottom lip quivered and another painful contraction rippled through your body. Every fibre of your being ignited in a fireball. “Ahhh—I won’t do this without my husband!”
On the other side of the phone call that had taken a rather drastic turn, Mav looked to Phoenix who was being wheeled into the awaiting ambulance on the tarmac. Bob was next, Pete didn’t have the heart to tell the Weapons Systems Officer that had just escaped death that his wife, who he hadn’t mentioned to a soul beside Phoenix, that his wife’s water had just broken.
“Phoenix, hey—“ Pete stopped the medics briefly, they looked at Pete like he was risking her life by wasting valuable time. But this was just as important. “What’s Bob's wife’s name?” Pete wanted to know so he could be a little more personal.
The truth was Natasha didn’t even know, she’d seen the picture of you in Bob's wallet that he’d shown her, but Bob had only ever called you by your nickname. Bob's beloved term of endearment.
Peach.
“He’s only ever called her Peach, I don’t even know her name.” Phoenix cried. She was still trying to process what had happened—she felt like the blame was all her own to bear. She’d damn near killed her back seater and she didn’t even know his wife’s real name or that you were pregnant. “I nearly killed him and I don’t even know his wife’s name—“
“Hey hey hey.” Mav tried to soothe the clearly shocked pilot. “It wasn’t your fault, it could’ve happened to anyone, Phoenix.” Mav smiled softly as he held the phone back to his ear, he was still yet to call Phoenix's emergency contact, her sister Lily. It wasn’t inherently Mavericks' job to call the emergency contacts listed in Bob and Phoenix’s files, but it was his duty, his responsibility.
He was going to as soon as he’d informed you, however, Pete wasn’t expecting this call to take the turn it had. “Peach, you there?”
There was no answer, Simply whimpers. When you’d doubled over in pain in the kitchen you’d left your phone on the island bench top. It was far too out of reach now as you sat trying to breathe through the latest contraction that bodied you.
“Peach—“ Mav started, but as he did so saw the medics wheeling Bob closer and closer to the ambulance waiting on the tarmac. He couldn’t say anything, not when Bob was still fighting to stay conscious. “Mrs Floyd, someone will be there as soon as they can, I promise.”
“Bbboooooobb—!” You cried out. “I can’t do this!” It was all too much for you to handle, the immense pressure, the anxiety, the fear of losing your husband. “I can’t fucking do this!” You never thought in your wildest dreams you’d have to do this alone. Bob always said he’d be right with you every single step of the way. And up until right now he had been.
“Someone’s coming Peach.” Maverick knew you couldn’t hear him, but he couldn’t bring himself to put the phone down. He looked at Bob being wheeled into the back of the ambulance on a stretcher, wondering if his decision to not say anything as of right now was a bad decision. He seemed to always be full of those.
“Someone’s coming—“
***~***~***~***~***~***~***~
By the time Bob was brought back to the North Island Base Hospital, he was very aware that someone would need to call his emergency contact about what had happened. Someone was going to need to call you, he thought it would be best if he was the one who called.
With a throbbing headache and a few cuts and gashes, Bob let the nurses and doctors tend to his aid without much of a fight. He knew he needed the care, knew it was for the best if he just let everyone do their jobs. He wasn't going anywhere anytime soon and if he put up a fight they would only keep him admitted for longer.
“You got a partner Robert? A wife or husband that we need to call?” Doctor Austin asked as he shined a light into Bob's eyes, watching carefully as he followed the light side to side.
“I have a wife–” Bob mumbled, his head hurt from when he’d hit the ground not so gracefully but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle as he sat up on the hospital bed with his legs hanging off the side. Phoenix was laying with an ice pack over her eyes on the other bed. “She’s um, she's pregnant, could go any day now.” Doctor Austin chuckled as he clicked his pen light off and placed it into his top pocket. Sending Bob an all knowing look.
“And you thought it was a good idea to fall outta the sky?” Bob's ribs hurt when he laughed softly, cupping at his side as he did so, laughing with the doctor who had cleared him and Natasha of any serious injury. “My good man, I can't say that's a good mix.” But there were still observations that needed to be made and a few more tests just to be sure. He wasn't out of the woods.
“Yeah I think you might be right doc—“ Bob smiled softly. “But can I be the one to call her? She’ll probably take the news a little better if she heard it from me.”
“I’ll see what I can do Lieutenant.” Doctor Austin nodded as he picked up his charts and headed out of the room, leaving Phoenix and Bob in the heavy silence of the aftermath of their near death experience.
“What’s her name?” Phoenix mumbled from behind the ice pack she kept over her eyes.
“Y/n—“ Bob replied softly as he played with the wedding band that was strung through his dog tags. “We’ve been together since high school.”
“Why do you call her Peach?”
“Because she’s as sweet as the peaches from the orchard my grandma used to own.” Bob couldn’t stop himself from bashfully blushing, a hume all consuming crept across the apples of his cheeks whenever he spoke about you. “We’re about to have a baby, the detachment was meant to be my last before I could access my paternity leave entitlements.”
“Rough last assignment—“ Phoenix chuckled as she shook her head in disbelief. Bob agreed silently, it was a rough last assignment. “You don’t talk about her an awful lot do you?”
“I would—“ Bob pressed his lips together. “Just no one really asked.” It was then that Phoenix realised that she didn’t know an awful lot about the man who had gone down with her. The man who sat behind her and had her back in the sky. Her WSO. “And I guess we’re not here for all that long anyway so I just kept her to myself, she’s a nice reminder that even after the rough days we’ve been having I get to go home, safe and in one piece to the woman I love.”
“Do you guys know what your having?” Phoenix didn't mean to pry, but she felt an overwhelming pressure to get to know the person she had been flying with since being requested for this detachment. Bob shook his head in response.
“Nah, we wanted to keep it a surprise.” Just as Bob was finishing his sentences Doctor Austin returned, his face looked all kinds of pale and worry was written in the deep lines across his forehead.
“Lieutenant Floyd it looks as if your wife was just admitted into the maternity ward—“ Bob's heart stopped beating inside his chest as he listened to Doctor Austin. “It appears that she was contacted earlier about your accident and the shock sent her into labour—“
“I uh—I need to see her.” Bob mumbled as he slid off the exam bed and nearly fell to the floor. His knees were so weak from the shock and adrenaline from the accident and now the realisation that he was about to be a first time dad. “I need to see my wife, where is she?”
“Lieutenant, I know this must be a stressful situation for you but I really advise against leaving until we’ve finished with your own test. We still need to get you in for—“
“I won’t miss the birth of my baby.” Bob shook his head in defiance. “No, I won’t leave her to do that alone, she needs me—I know she does because I know how scared she is about doing this alone.”
“Robert—“
“No no you have to listen to me. I can't let her do this alone because I’ve heard her cry about it in the middle of the night.” Phoenix's heart shattered into a million pieces as she watched Bob plead with the doctor and the nurses that had come in to try and subdue him. “She’s scared I won’t come back one day and today was almost that day and now she’s giving birth to our baby alone after I promised I’d be here for her—“
“We can’t let you go, it would be against all my medical advice.” Doctor Austin tried to explain. “I understand the difficulty of the situation Mr Floyd but your health and wellbeing is our number one priority.”
“But you have to let me!! That’s my wife! She needs me! Please—“ You needed your husband, things weren’t travelling all that well in the delivery room. You weren’t ready to have this baby—not if Bob wasn’t there with you. Not if Bob had left you behind, he was too young to die. He couldn’t leave you here by yourself to raise a baby, his baby, on your own. He promised he wouldn’t.
“Mrs Floyd, you are going to have this baby.”
“Aahhhhhh! I’m not doing this without my husband!” You groaned out. You were covered in sweat and crying your heart out as one of the labour and delivery nurses held your hand and placed a cool washcloth to your forehead. “I won’t have this baby without him, do you understand me!”
“Someone needs to contact her husband—“ Everyone from the King of England to the Hounds of Hell could hear you screaming. It had been a rather quiet day for the L&D department. Until the ambulance had brought you in.
“We can’t reach him, but I’ll try again.” One of the intern labour and delivery nurses replied as she rushed out of the room, she sprinted towards the nurses station in a hurry. So fast she almost went straight past it, she came to a halt with a flustered sigh.“I need you to try contacting Mr Floyd again, his wife won’t cooperate—she’s refusing to give birth to this baby without him.”
“She knows how having a baby works doesn’t she?” One of the older nurses sitting at the desk rolled her eyes. “That baby, no matter the circumstances, isn’t going to wait for anyone.”
“I’ll let the L&D ward know you’re here as a patient but that’s the best I can do at this stage Lieutenant, I can’t in good conscience let you leave this ward without having run through all the proper medical procedures to make sure you’re fit to return to work.” Doctor Austin wasn’t trying to be the bay guy, if anything he wanted nothing more than to send Bob on his way—but he couldn’t, he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night knowing he didn’t do his job to the best of his ability. “My primary priority is you and Miss Trance here.”
“You don’t understand!” Bob ran his hands through his hair as his bottom lip quivered. He was holding back tears as he looked up to the ceiling—begging whatever God up there that saved him this morning to work just a little more magic. “She won’t have this baby without me, that was the deal—I needed to be there and now that I’m not—“
“She can’t not have the baby Robert.” Doctor Austin sighed, that was the moment Bob knew he needed out. He needed to get to you, he needed to be there by your side and whisper how beautiful and strong and amazing you are for being a whole person into this world. Because if there was one thing you were, it was strong willed, and you weren't going to have this baby without him. That was a promise. “I’ll go talk with L&D and I’ll be right back.”
“Tell my wife I’m here!” Bob shouted as Doctor Austin left the room, Bob felt like he couldn’t breathe. There was a pressure mounting inside his chest, like an elephant was perched upon his chest. “I’m—I’m here.” He broke. Tears streamed down his grazed cheeks as Phoenix hobbled over. She’d done a little damage to herself but nothing a little rest and recovery couldn’t fix.
They were lucky—oh so lucky.
“She's gonna be okay.” Natasha tried her best to comfort the Weapons System Officer she hardly knew, but Bob was long gone. He’d fallen deep into that hole, the one that the Greek God Chronos had created to separate this life from the next one. He was falling through a helpless paradox of anxiety and fear. You were about to give birth and he was going to miss it. As he crouched down as a whale of pain escaped his parted lips, Bob wished for nothing more than to reverse time.
Because if he could just simply reserve time then he wouldn’t have gone into work this morning. And none of this would be happening.
***~***~***~****~***~****~****~***
“Desmond, she’s not doing well, at all.” Lily, one of your delivery nurses, pleaded with Bob's doctor to just let him come to your aid. “She thinks he’s dead, something about an accident he was in this morning.”
“F-18 ejection, he hit the ground pretty hard.” Doctors Austin looked in at you on the bed, in the middle of active labour, fighting every urge you had to push. You weren’t having this baby, not without Bob, the love of your life, your best friend, your husband. “He’s fine, but he’s in for observation overnight and I’m still waiting for his result to come back from his MRI.”
“If she doesn’t see her husband soon she’s going to need an emergency c-section and I for one am not about to place a panicked mother to be under the knife unless it’s critical.” Lily was your voice of reason. You couldn’t plead with Doctor Austin to let your husband go yourself so she did it for you. “If your patient can walk, hold his wife’s hand while she delivers their child and can sign a waiver saying he waved all medical advice then send him down here before she loses this baby.”
“You L&D ladies think you know everything—“
“Just bring me her damn husband before it’s too late.”
***~***~***~***~***~***~***~**
Bob felt like he’d been condemned to some eternal hell, time froze as the walls of the hospital room he sat in with Phoenix grew closer and closer. He felt claustrophobic for the first time in a long time.
“How did the two of you meet?” Phoenix tried to keep Bob's mind from going to places too dark to fathom. He needed a distraction from the fact he was here with her and you were delivering his child. All alone.
“I was never good at history, she was my partner for this assessment we had in ancient history class once, everyone was doing their research on Pompeii but not Peach.” Bob chuckled to himself at the memory. “No she wanted to do Herculaneum and it turned out to be the only project I ever got an A on for that class.” You were just it for Bob. There was something special about your aura. Your ability to draw him close like a moth entranced by a flame. You took his breath away every time you told him you loved him.
Your love sent Bob's heart clear out of this world.
“We kinda just never left each other's side since then.” Bob explained as he sat against the wall on the floor with his elbows on his knees. “She’s always been so supportive of what I do even though I know it scares her more than anything to see me walk out that door every morning and she worries endlessly whenever I’m deployed.”
“Becoming she loves you.” Phoenix wished she knew a love like Bobs, but her time hadn’t come yet. Bob nodded along as he twirled his wedding band around his finger as it hung from his dog tags.
“Because she loves me.”
“Floyd—“ Doctor Austin made his presence known as he chucked Bob a blue hospital gown and cap. “Put those on, sign this form that says you're going against my professional medical advice and follow me, you’re needed in labour and delivery.”
***~***~***~***~***~***~
“Push! Y/n dear you need to push—!” Lily tried to persuade you to push when your next contraction hit but you were too far gone. You weren’t ready to be a mother, not without Bob there to be a father.
“No! No, I'm not having this baby!” It was the hardest thing to hear as Bob came racing down the hall, his entire body ached from bruises, his head felt heavy on his shoulders from his concussion. But he was okay, he was alive. “I’m not! I won’t! I can’t do this without him!” You cried out in pain as you fought the urge to push, you swore your teeth were about to crush under the force of you clenching. A scream so heartbreaking and primal ripped through you as your body began to betray you. You were fighting nature's course and it wasn’t going well.
“She needs to push—she’s losing too much blood.” One of the nurses stated as a matter of factly just as Bob made it to the door. He froze at the sight of you, how could you look so beautiful in so much pain? He thought he was going to pass out as he took steady, slow steps into the room.
“I’m here—“ Bob cooed as he came up to your beside. “I’m here Peach I’m here.”
“Bob?” You turned in a delirious state to where your husband's voice had come from. “No no I thought you—“
“I’m okay.” He smiled as he bent over to kiss your forehead and splay his hand on top of your head to push your hair away from your face. “I’m here, I told you I’d be here didn’t I?”
“I thought you died, I thought you were in an accident?” You could barely focus, you felt so light headed that the world felt like it was spinning. “I thought—“
“Hey, hey you need to push alright? You can push now baby because I’m here and I’m with you and I’m fine.” Bob reassured you as you sobbed and nodded as he kissed your lips softly and held your hand. “You’re so strong, you’re so brave, and I love you so much, please push mama.”
“This baby is coming whether you're ready or not Mrs Floyd so I’m gonna need you to focus so we can get this baby out.” Lily rounded the bed as she positioned herself between your legs. Bob felt you tighten your grip around his head and everything stopped. Time stood still, your screams were all but drowned out by the excitement and fear in Bob's heart.
“Yes, Y/n good job. I can see bubs head you’re doing so well! Oh your next contraction I need you to push until I tell you to stop.” Lily smiled as you let your head fall back against the bed.
“You’ve been telling me to push and now you don’t want me to push!?” You hissed. Bob couldn’t help but to chuckle. He was so amazed by your strength.
“Yep, that’s exactly what I’m telling you.” Lily chuckled. She knew you were close, barreling towards another contraction. She could see it. “Alright this is the one mama, big push for me and bubs will be here in no time.”
“Bob! It hurts! Make it stop!” You cried out, Bob wished he could take all your pain and experience it himself. He never wanted to see you in such a state, but your baby was coming, the baby you’d made together. You’d created together late one night or in the early hours of the morning he wasn’t too sure. But what he was sure of was that you could do this. “It hurts!!”
“Push Mrs Floyd!” Lily shouted.
“Come on peach push! push!” Bob willed you on as you did. You shouted  and cried and squeezed your husband’s hand so hard he thought you were about to break his damn hand. But this was it. Your baby was coming.
“Okay okay the heads out stop!” Lily guided you as you let your head fall back against the bed in pure exhaustion. You were dehydrated, covered in sweat and ready to give up. “So I lied before, you’re gonna give me one smaller push to help bubs out Y/n and that it’s—you're done.”
“I can’t.”
“No peach you can.” Bob cooed. “You can because you’ve come this far.”
“I’m not even sure if you're here or not.” You sobbed as you reached out to caress Bob's cheek. “I’m not even sure if you're here with me or if I’m seeing things.”
“I’m here, I’m real.” Bob whispered in your ear. “And we’re having our baby Peach, just one more little push and it’s gonna be you and me and our little one against the world.” You nodded softly and you shut your eyes and groaned. “You can do it.”
“Alright let’s have this baby! One more small push!” Lily announced as another contraction tour through your exhausted body.
“Ahhhhhh!!” You shouted and Bob swore you bust his eardrum, but it was a small sacrifice as the cries of the world’s newest human echoed off the walls.
“Congratulations Mr and Mrs Floyd you have a little baby girl.” Lily handed you your daughter the second she was born. Placing her on your chest within seconds of her arrival.
“Oh Peach, she's so beautiful.” Bob cried as tears streamed down his cheeks. He swore he’d never be able to love someone more than he loved you. But as you held your newborn daughter on your chest he kinda thought he’d been wrong. He could love someone just as much as he loved you. Your daughter.
“She's perfect, hi b-baby.” Your voice was all but a whisper as your head lulled to the side. You felt dizzy, lightheaded as your daughters cried softened. “I love you.”
“Y/n? Sweetheart are you alright?” You didn’t reply but you looked up at your husband with a dazed expression, a tunnel had begun to form, edges of a dark black hole crept its way into your mind.
Chronos hole—the one between this world and the next.
“Peach?” Alarms rang out as Lily removed your crying newborn just minutes earth side from your chest as your eyes rolled into the back of your head. “No no no no what’s wrong what’s happening to her?” Bob asked as he tapped your cheek softly. “Hey, Peach, no stay with me, stay with me.”
“Her blood pressure is dropping, she’s haemorrhaging.” Lily explained as she and a bunch of other nurses worked around you. “We need to get her into surgery, Mr Floyd.”
“Sir, step back—“ An older nurse asked as she placed a hand on Bob's shoulder. He did as he watched Lily take a sample of your blood.
“I’ll head directly to the lab to drop off the sample.”
“Just make sure her surgeon has o-negative on the ready.” The only nurse replied as Bob stood there, watching as they wheeled you out on the same bed you'd just given birth in. He didn't even get a chance to say goodbye, he didn't get a chance to tell you how much he loved you.
“Uh, do I go with her or?” Bob didn’t know what to do, his whole world had been turned upside down and on its head already today, and again it had just flipped once more. There was one nurse left, he didn’t know her name, but she smiled politely at him.
“No, you should stay here with your daughter, she needs her daddy now.”
***~***~***~***~***~***~***~
First there was a storm of carbon and molten rock which begat granite and soil. Then, the land shook and it cracked and it rose till it spiked the sky. Forest grew and died and grew a hundred times again. And then people grew and died and grew and died a hundred times again. There were storms and seasons and fences and blood. Wonder and vengeance and a whole lot of regret….
And through every grievance, every war, the land and the sky didn't give two shits about any of it. Bob Floyd knew that as he sat with his newborn daughter in the maternity room of the Miramar Base Hospital designed by man, for man to help other men with westernised medical procedures and treatments…
That it wouldn't give two shits about you either.
“Hey..” A gruff voice came from the doorway, it took Bob all his light and all his remaining energy to look up from his daughter. The light and life of you. “I uh, I just thought I’d come check in on you and Phoenix.” Mav crossed his arms over his chest as he moved into the room. “How’s your wife doing?”
“I don’t know.” Bob explained as he rocked his little girl, skin to skin was important so he’d stripped off what he could. “She’s still in surgery.” Pete could see the worry written in the lines of Bob's face. But the little girl who cried against his shoulder had him mesmerised. “Sorry darlin, I got you, daddy’s here.”
“She’s a little beauty isn’t she?” Mav sat down beside the WSO who’d had a longer day then most. “You get a chance to name her yet? Before—?” Mav didn’t have to say before you went into shock. Your body had been through a lot and the nurses believed if you hadn’t held on so long, held back against what your body was telling you it needed to do then there was a possibility that it could have been a rather smooth delivery. Bob took that personally, the only reason you were holding back was because he wasn't here for you when you needed him the most.
“No, but we’ll name her after, for now she’s baby Peach.”
“Your wife’s nickname.” Mav replied softly as he looked up. He knew then and there what was about to happen.
Bob knew there was a Doctor standing in the doorway. He didn’t dare look up. He knew if he looked up he’d be told the worst news of his life.
Bob remembered that had asked you once when you were wrapped up in his arms in the dead of the night, listening to the storm raging on outside if you knew anything at all about a Greek God called Chronos. He remembered that you had chuckled out a soft no as he trailed his lips up your neck. Bob told you that he carried a sickle, that he used it to cut a hole, a tear in the cosmos between heaven and earth. Chronos did that to separate this world from the next, to separate the known from the unknown.
And while a Doctor by the name of Henry Nardella told him that you didn’t make it through the surgery, that you'd left him and your daughter behind, in a world where nothing made sense without you in it.
Well—Robert Floyd felt as if he’d fallen straight into it.
“No, please don't leave me here.” Bob felt like he’d fallen into the cosmic existence between now and soon to come, plummeting into a realm where time didn’t exist and light didn’t reach. He felt like he had tumbled into a parallel dimension where nothing made sense, nothing seemed tangible or real. He’d descended into a world where you weren't around. “No Peach, no.”
But at the touch of his earlobe, a slight pressure formed at the lobe. So warm and comforting. Bob knew as your baby girl settled in against his chest at the lub dub of his heart beating for you–he knew you were safe on the other side.
Because you had tugged on his earlobe, just like you promised you would.

“Jake,” No matter how many times Natasha called his name, the head-strong pilot refused to stop. Still, they followed him through the sterile-smelling halls of the hospital until he stopped abruptly. “Hangman,” She tried again, more firm this time. Wordlessly, he turned to her and snapped something along the lines of ‘What, Trace?’ “Look, you know that we’ll be behind you no matter what,” Jake stared at her blankly and willed her to just get to the point. Your doctor was on the other side of the door right in front of him. He could be talking to him right now if Phoenix would just hurry up. “But you have to tell us what’s going on.”
The pilot should feel elated. He should be excited at the fact that his wife is feeling better. However, he couldn’t shake the overwhelming feeling of dread that was growing stronger and stronger by the second. Jake may not have been a doctor, but he did know that a headache after brain trauma was not a good sign.
He tried to muster up a grateful smile, he really did, but all he could offer her was a barely-there tired grin. “I know, Nix,” Sucking in a sharp breath, he knew that he had to tell his friends why he was in such a rush. “We were just talking and then she suddenly seemed like she was in pain. She said she was going to sleep.” Instantly, Bradley and Natasha understood what the problem was.
They stood behind him as he knocked on the door and waited for your doctor to answer. When the door was pulled open, the man was just putting his stethoscope around his neck. He greeted Jake with a smile. “What can I help you with, Lieutenant?”
“Sorry to bother you, sir,” Jake started, attempting to remain professional even though he was worried sick. Once the older man assured him that it wasn’t a problem, he continued. “But I was hoping that you could come check on my wife. She appeared to have a headache earlier.” The man nodded and followed Jake back to your room. When he stepped inside quietly with Jake close on his heels, Bradley and Natasha took that as a sign to return to their seats.
Inside the room, you were peacefully sleeping on the scratchy hospital sheets, breathing softly and eyelids fluttering every few seconds. Jake watched you worriedly, working his lip between his teeth. The doctor was careful as he looked in your eyes, still trying not to wake you up. He checked a few more monitors before offering Jake a reassuring smile. “Everything seems fine. Given all the stress she has endured in the past couple days, a headache isn’t out of the norm.” With those words, Jake could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Jake thanked your doctor as he stepped out of the room. He could feel his heart hammering against his ribcage. After everything that had happened over the past few days, all he wanted was for things to be okay. At least for a little while.
When Bradley saw your doctor step out of the room, he patted Phoenix’s hand gently before stepping inside. The first thing he noticed was Jake leaning against the wall, his head tipped back and eyes shut tightly. “You okay, man?” The usually put-together pilot startled at the sound of his friend's voice.
He cleared his throat and nodded, his eyes only meeting Bradley’s briefly before looking back to you. Bradshaw stepped forward to comfort his friend, but instantly noticed the dishevelled state of his clothes and hair. He had been wearing the same outfit for almost a week and Bradley was convinced that he hadn’t showered for at least two. “Jake,” Bradley started cautiously, not wanting to piss the man off. He only hummed, not taking his eyes off your peacefully sleeping form. “When was the last time you showered?” That caused his eyes to snap to Bradley.
“I’m not leaving her. Not again.” The words were out of his mouth in mere seconds. Jake squeezed your hand softly, completely disregarding Bradley’s statement as he looked at your sleeping face.
Bradley shook his head. “That’s not what I'm saying,” Trying again, Bradley chose his words even more carefully this time. “I’m just saying that she’s sleeping now. You have time to go and take a shower and take care of yourself,” He knew that there was one statement he could use that was a surefire way to get Jake to agree. “She wouldn’t want to see you like this.”
Silently, Jake stood from that creaky, uncomfortable chair and turned to his wingman. Before he responded, he sucked in a long breath and released it. “You’re right,” He nodded, silently thanking Rooster for calling him out. Just as he was about to step out the door, he turned back. “Would you stay with her? I don’t want her waking up alone.” Bradley could hear the care laced with worry in his friend's voice.
He nodded reassuringly, taking a seat in the creaky plastic chair and pulling his phone out. As Jake closed the door softly, Bradley began swiping through another level of Candy Crush.
Tumblr media
“Morning, Sleepyhead,” Bradley grinned as you blinked your eyes open. You smiled at the sound of his voice and twisted your head to face him. You noticed that you could no longer feel your heart beating in your temples. That sent a surge of relief through you. Before you could respond to the mustached man, he spoke again. “Would you mind if I asked you a few questions?”
You nodded with a soft smile, giving Bradley permission to ask whatever he wished. “I know that you probably don’t like people asking you this, but can you remember anything else?” His words were quiet as he tried not to scare you. While he was curious to know whether you could remember anything else, he didn’t want you to feel pressured.
You nodded before you began speaking. “It’s okay,” Pausing for a few seconds, you tried your hardest to remember anything that you could. “I remember.” Suddenly, memories of a breakfast spent in bed with someone flooded through your mind. You could see the colour of the sheets and feel the cool sea breeze from the open window. There was a man next to you, he had his arm wound around your waist, his thumb drawing delicate patterns into the bare skin of your waist. You were looking at him with pure love. The only problem was that you couldn’t see his face. You had no idea who he was.
You gasped, tears welling in your eyes at the knowledge that you had someone to come home to. Someone that you loved more than you could know. And you couldn’t even remember him. You sniffled quietly and Bradley watched you through concerned eyes. “I remember a breakfast in bed,” You started and the pilot immediately softened. “I can remember the colour of the sheets and the smell of the food. But there’s someone beside me that I can’t see,” Eyes slipped shut, fat, hot tears rolling down your flushed cheeks in waves. Desperately, your mind chased the man that you couldn’t remember, regardless of how hard you tried. “I can’t remember him.” It sounded almost like a whimper as you wiped the tears from your eyes.
Suddenly, you remembered the man sitting beside you. “I’m sorry.” You murmured, embarrassment serging through you. The lump in your throat was almost overwhelming as you cleared your throat.
Once you wiped your eyes once more, you turned to Bradley. You couldn’t pretend to miss the sympathetic look in his eyes. You hated seeing that look. It felt as if everyone around you had been looking at you like that ever since you woke up. For once, you wished that the people around you could just treat you like they did before the incident. Not that you could remember how that was. You knew that it was because they cared about you, and you really did appreciate it, but you couldn’t help but feel as if they were looking down on you in some way.
Bradley watched as you tried your hardest not to let any more tears fall. It reminded him of the scared girl that he had met all those years ago. When Bradley first met you, you had just joined the Navy. You were living in a small apartment on the south side of Baltimore, away from any of your family and friends. It had only been a few weeks since you moved into your tiny apartment when he met you.
The pilot had met you in a bar, spending the entire night trying to befriend you. It was obvious to most that you were the more reserved type, and even though you tried to ignore him, eventually, Bradley was able to crack through your tough exterior. Ever since that moment, he was your best friend. The two of you were inseparable. It almost made you wonder whether there was something else between the two of you that you couldn’t remember.
“Scoot over.” Bradley tilted his chin forward. You shuffled over slowly, tears still welling in your eyes as you thought back on your memory. Who was the man in the dream? Could it have been Bradley? One of his arms settled around your shoulder after you nodded in approval. Pulling you into his side, one of his thick thighs rested against yours and his foot nudged yours.
Your head dropped down to rest on his shoulder. Bradley’s thumb brushed slowly over the soft skin on your arm. “You don’t have to remember everything all right now,” He murmured, no louder than a whisper. “The most important thing is that you're okay,” You could feel his chest rumbling under your ear, his voice being even deeper than it normally was. “You gave us all a really good scare. All we want is for you to be okay. Okay?” He grinned when you giggled from the tickle of his mustache against your cheek.
All that could be heard in the small hospital rooms was the sound of your soft laughs as Bradley told you tales of the mischief that you and he got into over the past few years. While you enjoyed hearing Jake tell you stories about how the two of you met, there was just something about listening to Rooster talk than had you snuggling further into him.
“One of my favourite memories of us was in that bar one night in Tulsa. With the piano.” That was all you had to say and Bradley knew what you were talking about. One night, after the two of you had been reunited in Oklahoma, you headed out to the local bar. Bradley decided to teach you how to play Great Balls of Fire on the piano. That night had ended with you and Bradley stumbling drunkenly back to his housing, lying out on the back porch while you stared up at the stars. It was by far one of your favourite moments.
That had Bradley chuckling quietly as he reminisced on that wonderful night. As your head dropped further into his chest, you started to wonder whether or not it could have been Bradley in your memory. Your hand reached up and you fiddled with his dog tags, seeking comfort in the presence of the mustached aviator. After the hell that you had endured over the past few days, you were ecstatic that you could finally feel at peace.
Bradley continued whispering softly to you, not sparing any detail as he recounted moment after moment from your past. Your eyes fluttered shut, soothed by the low timbre of Bradley's voice. It was hard to remember a time when you had ever felt this relaxed. Holding you closely, Bradley was happy that he was able to draw your mind away from the overwhelming stress of the past few days. Little did you know that Jake was standing just outside the door, listening intently to every word whispered between you and his wingman.

Still in a haze of Bradley induced lust, you could barely figure out how to answer his phone. "Hello?" you managed, your voice sounding like something from a porno.
"Y/N? I think I took your bag by mistake! I'm so sorry!" It was Phoenix, but it took you a moment to figure out what she was even talking about.
"Oh, right. That's okay, no worries," you told her. Bradley was slowly pulling further away from you and removing his hands from your sides. "Bradley said he would drive me over to get my stuff."
"Sounds good. Can you put him on for a second?"
---------------------------------
You gave the phone back to Bradley and he took it in his large hand, his eyes never leaving yours. He knew he had to have the dumbest look on his face right now, but he didn't care, because you also looked seriously blissed out at the moment.
"Yeah?" he grunted
"Did it work?" Phoenix asked.
He started laughing. "I should have known. But yeah, somehow it did."
"YES!" she shouted loudly into his ear. "We are all at the Burger Shack, but take your time getting here."
"Perfect. We'll come meet you to get her bag."
Bradley ended the call, silently taking back every mean thing he had ever said about Phoenix.
"You ready to go?" he asked you, really loving the way you were looking at him now. You nodded slowly and he placed a gentle kiss to your lips before closing your door. Unable to contain himself, he danced around the back of the Bronco before grabbing his aviators, climbing in and starting the engine.
The start of the drive was silent except for the radio. Bradley glanced over to see you running your fingertips gently along your lips. "So, now that I have your phone number, am I allowed to use it?" he asked carefully, hoping he wasn't going to spook you.
"Yeah, I would like that," you whispered back with a smile.
"Great. Would you mind saving your number in my phone for me?" He handed the phone to you and gave you the passcode while he drove. You saved your number with your first and last name and handed it back as he pulled the Bronco into the lot of the burger place.
"Bradley, will you please ask me out again? Please ask me if I want to go to that place in Del Mar and eat spicy food with you."
Bradley smirked as he shifted into park. "I'll think about it, Sweetheart."
----------------------------------------
"Well played, Bradshaw," you thought to yourself as he walked around to get your door for you. Your lack of shoes was still a problem, but he wordlessly looped an arm under your knees and scooped you up, holding you against his chest.
You floated along like you were in a dream, your arms looped around his neck as he carried you around the back of the restaurant. "Should we be seen like this?" you whispered, realizing the position the two of you were in.
"It's sandy up ahead. I'll set you down there," he replied with a grin. "But if I had it my way, I'd be touching you all night, and I couldn't care less who was around to see it."
You bit your lip as he set you down and bounded up the steps in front of you. Your brain and heart were working in tandem for once, demanding that you grab him and get back to kissing. You had to collect yourself before walking up the steps.
"Wow, Phoenix," Bradley called toward the tables where everyone else sat eating. "How many bags did you decide to steal today? You truly are a menace."
She jumped up with your teal backpack and handed it to you. "I'm so sorry! I would have driven it back to the beach, except that Rooster was so sweet to bring you here to get it."
You were thankful that the back deck was crowded with so many people eating and hanging out. This way, you were able to slip your clothing and shoes back on without drawing a lot of attention to yourself. "It's really no big deal," you told her with a shrug, trying to play it off. "Bradley helped me get up from the beach and everything, so it's fine."
"I'm sure he helped you with a lot of things," she replied innocently before returning to her seat and her tray of food.
You huffed out a laugh and went into the restaurant to order some food, and that's where you found Bradley. He waved you up to the front of the line where he was about to order. "What do you want to eat?"
You were just checking your phone and saw that Cam and Maria both went home to shower instead of grabbing dinner. "A burger with everything, and a chocolate shake," you told him, rooting around in your bag to get your credit card out so you could pay for your food and his too.
"Make that two burgers with everything, two chocolate shakes, fries and onion rings," Bradley told the kid who was taking the order before handing him his own credit card.
"I was going to pay for it," you scolded him, finally locating your wallet. His only response was leaning a little closer to you, smiling and shaking his head. "I hope you do realize I have the clearances to have you removed from all mission details at work," you threatened with a completely serious expression.
"You would never," Bradley said, but he did look a little nervous.
"No, I wouldn't. I just want you to know your place. So when I say I'm buying you a beer later, I don't want to hear you bitching."
You grabbed the order when it was ready and started walking to a table out on the back deck.
"Have I mentioned that I like everything about you?" Bradley whispered in your ear as he followed you.
---------------------------------------
As Bradley drove you through the darkness back to the beach to get your car, he felt you reach for his hand on the center console. You seemed to have no idea what you were doing to him every time you touched him.
"How should I save your contact name in my phone?" you asked him as he was about to park next to your car in the beach parking lot. "I feel like I'm the only person who calls you Bradley instead of Rooster."
"Here, let me do it." He thought for a minute before typing out Bradley Rooster Bradshaw <3 <3 <3 and hitting save before handing it back to you.
Your bright laughter filled his car and made him smile. "What if someone sees that?"
"I don't care. And if you change it, I'll be so mad," he said as he hopped out and started around to get you. He opened your door and helped you jump down. "Like now I'm going to demand that you text me a screenshot of our conversations every night so I can make sure that's still how my name is listed."
You cracked up. "And what makes you think I'll be texting you every night?"
"You will be," he said with a nod before backing you up until your butt bumped your car door. Then you reached out and touched his cheek, and it was ridiculous how quickly he had his mouth on yours.
You overtook all of his senses as he kissed you. He could still smell your coconut sunblock. Every curve of your hips fit perfectly in his hands. The little gasps and sighs coming from you sounded obscene to his ears. You tasted like a chocolate milkshake. And when he pulled away to get a good look at you, your face was bathed in moonlight. "You're fucking beautiful," he told you as he ran his thumb along your bottom lip.
"Are you going to ask me out again?" you asked him sweetly, making him chuckle.
"I said I would think about it. Now, I'm going to stop back and get a shower before heading to the Hard Deck. And then I'm going to let you buy me exactly one beer so you'll allow me to keep my job. Sound good?"
"Yeah," you said, running your hands down his arms. "I'll see you there."
-----------------------------------------
"Maria!" you screamed when you got home a few minutes later.
"What's wrong?!" she asked as she came running out of her room half dressed.
You were jumping up and down, and trying to kick off your shoes. "I kissed him! I kissed him and I should have done it a week ago!"
Maria joined you in your jumping. "Tell me more! Is the mustache magical?"
"It is soooo magical!" you sang as you pulled your shoes off and ran toward the bathroom. "He's just.... oh my goodness, he's so sexy. I need to take a quick shower so we can go out to the bar."
Once you were in the shower, Maria let herself in the bathroom to continue interrogating. "So what happened after Cam and I left?"
"Well Phoenix accidentally took my bag with her, so I was left with just Bradley and my towel. I didn't have my phone or keys or shoes or anything. He carried me up the rocks, Maria. Then I kissed him in the Bronco. It really is a hot car."
Maria snorted. "Yeah, it sounds like Phoenix took your stuff on purpose. She was probably trying to blindside both of you."
You poked your head around the shower curtain. "You really think so? Wow, she's a very good friend then."
Maria nodded, as you got back to showering. "So, how exactly have you solved your Rooster problem?"
"I'm still working on it."
-----------------------------------------
Bradley tried to casually throw some darts with Hangman, but he couldn't stop looking toward the door for your arrival. And then suddenly there you were, in a cute little sundress that hit just above your knees, arm in arm with Cam. Bradley completely froze at the sight of you, just as he was about to take his turn.
"Oh shit man, don't even bother with her," Hangman drawled once he realized who Bradley was looking at. "Been there, tried that. She's completely brutal. She'll shut you down cold and never even glance in your direction again. But it must have been fun for you to get your hands on her during football earlier. She is something to look at."
Bradley had to work hard to hide his smile. "Yeah, she sure is." He threw the last dart, lost to Hangman, and then excused himself to get a drink. You were leaning against the bar top flanked by your friends.
"Fancy meeting you here," Bradley said, and you spun around to face him. He wanted to touch you but managed to keep his hands to himself.
"Yes, fancy," you said with a smile. You'd taken the time to French braid your hair and put on some makeup. He desperately wanted to mess it all up. "I just ordered you a beer. Thanks for not stranding me on the beach earlier."
"I hope you realize, you're just making me think of how much fun it would be to get stranded with you," he said, low enough for just you to hear.
"Maybe next time," you told him with a smirk as you picked up both bottles and handed him one. "I'm going to drink this beer, and then in about twenty minutes, I'm going to go outside and walk down the stairs on the far side of the deck. I wouldn't be opposed to you meeting me on the beach."
Bradley's heart was hammering in his chest. "I'll be there," he managed to say before he took his beer to the other side of the bar near the pool table. He checked the time on his phone and forced himself to be as chill as possible for the next twenty minutes. He passed the time by thanking Phoenix profusely for taking your bag.
"I knew she liked you!" she whispered excitedly. "She just needs some time to realize you would treat her well. I'm sure she thinks all of you guys are essentially a bunch of fuckboys with more balls than brains. And honestly, that's true for most of you."
Bradley checked the time. Four more minutes to go. "I would never fuck her over. She's amazing. She calls me out on everything, Nat. And she's hilarious. I don't understand even ten percent of what she does at work, she's so much smarter than me. I already like her more than I think I've ever liked any other girl."
Phoenix smiled up at him and patted his arm. "Then you have to figure out how to keep her around."
----------------------------------------
You discreetly excused yourself from your friends, who clearly knew exactly what you were doing. You crept around the perimeter of the bar until you reached the door, then you ran across the darkened deck and down the stairs to the sand. With your back pressed against the wooden pillar that was holding the deck in place, you tried to slow your breathing. The night air was cooler than you expected for late summer, and you shivered in anticipation.
You heard heavy footsteps move quickly across the deck, and then someone was running down the stairs next to you. When Bradley landed on the sand, you reached for him and he found you in the near darkness.
"Hi," you whispered and his lips were immediately on yours. You pulled him closer by the collar of his Hawaiian shirt, and he pressed your back against the wooden post. He smelled so good, you wanted to lick him.
"Hi," he said against your lips between kisses. He cupped your chin and tilted your face up a bit before placing teasing little kisses all over your lips. Then he let his hand trail up and down along the back of your neck, playing with your braided hair. You shivered from cold and anticipation. "Are you chilly?"
"A little bit."
"I'll keep you warm," he promised and took both of your hands in his. Then he wrapped them around his neck and moved so his large body was pressed against yours, heat rolling off him. He slowly rubbed his hands up and down your sides, warming you through the fabric of your dress and making your core ache with need. "Better?" he asked against your shoulder, tickling you with his mustache.
"Much," you whimpered as he dragged his lips up along your neck, kissing your ear, forehead and the tip of your nose before returning to your lips.
You delved your tongue gently into his mouth, desperate to know how your favorite beer tasted on him.
Good, it tasted very good.
He responded by digging his capable fingers a little harder into your hips. And now his tongue was in your mouth, tasting you.  You were almost seeing stars, you were so turned on.
"Your skin is so soft," Bradley rasped as he ran his knuckles slowly across your collarbones and down a little lower, brushing the top of the swell of your breasts. Now his kisses were a little rougher, needier, but you still felt like he was worshipping you. "I'll bet you're soft everywhere."
Unable to keep control, you rubbed yourself gently against the front of his jeans. He was so hard. "Fuck, Sweetheart. Let's not go there tonight."
"Why not?" you whined, completely lost to this man.
"I can't really remember at the moment, but for some reason, it's not a good idea," he managed to say, bucking against you once and swallowing your moan with his mouth. Then he put a few inches of space between you so you could both catch your breath. He propped his forearm against the pillar above your head and you leaned back and looked at his face, bathed in moonlight. He was absolutely stunning.
A moment later, you could hear him softly laughing, and he tucked your braid behind your ear and stroked your neck. "I was planning on making you sweat it out for another day, but... do you want to go out with me? To Del Mar for dinner on Friday?"
"Yes."

The Daughter's Return Part 3
Chapter 23: Uncertainty
Start From Beginning | Next Chapter | Table of Contents | Read on AO3
Characters: female reader x Portgas D. Ace Word Count: 2.2k
You woke in a strange, metal room. It was sterile, as a hospital room should be, but there was something…comforting about it. Small touches of decor, such as the framed comic books and patterned bedspread made you feel slightly more at ease about your surroundings.
But that didn’t mean you wanted to hang around for long. You had to find Ace and Luffy.
To your dismay, the door was locked. While that normally would’ve sent you into a panic, you could hear Jinbe softly snoring right outside. You were guarded by someone your father respected. That gave you some comfort in this insane situation.
So you tried to rest. But you just ended up tossing and turning, waiting desperately for anyone to give you news. To tell you that you weren’t alone. A soft click of the lock had you sitting upright, desperately needing information.
“I’m surprised you’re awake,” the doctor said as he walked in the door. “You need rest.”
“What-”
“The baby is fine.” He sat down in a chair next to your bed, the color drained from his face. “We had to do a few surgeries, but everything is okay now. Honestly, I don’t know how. I don’t know why. I have some guesses, but we’ve never seen a baby survive that long with direct contact of a devil fruit ability like yours before. It’s unheard of. But your child will make a full recovery, as long as you don’t use your powers for the rest of the pregnancy.” He gave you a slight scowl, trying to reinforce the importance of his words.
You let out a breath you didn’t realize you were holding. Your child was fine. Whether it was divine intervention or some other strange cause, you hadn’t lost the baby. No more devil fruit powers for the next few months, but you had anticipated that obstacle anyway.
You almost felt relieved.  Almost.
“How are Ace and Luffy?”
He hesitated for a moment. “Strawhat-ya is stable. How are you feeling?”
“How’s Ace?” You asked, fiddling with your bracelet to avoid eye-contact. He was avoiding your question, which meant it had to be bad.
“We’re monitoring him closely,” the man said, caution in his voice. “He’s got some severe burns across his back that are causing some nerve damage, but he will be fine in a few days.”
Your heart quickened at the uncertainty of his words, which was picked up on the monitor connected to you. Your brain was already running through scenarios, trying to find the best outcome.
“We should get to Marco,” you whispered, thinking out loud. “He could help.”
The doctor's eye twitched. “If you don’t think my assistance is satisfactory, you can leave.”
“That’s not what I meant,” you rushed to correct yourself. “He just has a devil fruit that can magically heal people.”
“Ah,” the man seemed to relax a bit. “The Phoenix guy, right? I saw him on the battlefield. A division commander for the Whitebeard Pirates.”
“That’s him,” you said, nodding. You didn’t even know if he was still alive or not. You had no idea where he was or what he was doing. You didn’t know anything about the outside world.
He cleared his throat, watching you closely. “You are a part of that crew, right?”
You nodded again. Was it still a crew if your captain was dead? You weren’t sure. You pushed down the grief that came with that thought. You couldn’t bear it yet.
“I’ll get my guys to figure out which way they headed,” the man said. “We’ll try to get everyone back together with their crew. But you need to rest now. Don’t worry too much, we’re doing everything we can and it’s bad for the baby. Just rest for a few days and I’ll handle what you need.”
“That’s very kind of you.” Your cheeks were wet and you realized you were crying again.  You quickly wiped your eyes, trying to get a hold of your emotions. “Thank you, doctor.”
“Trafalgar,” he said. “Trafalgar Law.”
Your eyes darted over to him. You knew that name. You had heard it on two separate occasions before this. And now he was sitting in front of you.
“I know you.” The words were out of your mouth before you realized what you had said.
Trafalgar Law’s eyes narrowed at you, trying to decipher your words. “How’s that?”
You couldn’t tell him the whole truth. You’d only make him more uneasy. So you picked the explanation that was simpler. One that would continue to keep him as an ally.
“I read a Marine report about you a few months ago. Sounds like you stirred up trouble in the North Blue for a while before coming here.”
He gave you a devious smirk, but you could see his body relax at the information. Being from Flevance, you couldn’t imagine what this man had seen over his lifetime. No wonder he was skeptical of people who knew of him.
“Get some rest,” he said, getting up from his chair. “I’ll be back in a few hours to check on you, hopefully with some information about your crew.”
“Can I see Ace?” You dared to ask.
Law froze. “I don’t think it’s a good idea at the moment.”
“But-“
“Just stay put,” he said, finality in his voice.
“Are you going to lock my door again?” You could pick the lock or break the door down if you needed to, but you’d like to avoid that. You didn’t think the captain would like it if you started rampaging through his ship.
He sighed. “I’ll keep it unlocked for your comfort. But don’t wander. This place is a maze. I’ll let you know when you can see the others.”
He shut the door without another word, leaving you with more questions than answers.
—-
You couldn’t sleep.
You were completely fine. Your baby was healthy, by some strange miracle. But you had no idea how Ace or Luffy were doing.
And it drove you insane.
The soft snores coming outside of your room indicated that Jinbe was asleep. If you could sneak past him, you could try and find Ace or Luffy. And then they wouldn’t feel so alone.
And neither would you.
The door opened smoothly and silently, and you quietly stepped over Jinbe as you made your way down the hall.
It was cold in this metal ship, and you resisted the subconscious urge to use your powers and heat yourself back up. There were no windows in the ship either, so you had no idea what time of day it was, or where you were at.
It was almost claustrophobic if you thought about it too long, so you moved your mind away from the ship you were in and focused on the boys you needed to find. They had to be around here somewhere.
The halls were silent except for the light patter of your feet as you moved, randomly picking different hallways to turn down. You’d pause occasionally at the sound of laughter echoing through the ship, but it always sounded distant.
“How big is this damn boat?” you whispered to yourself, weaving and turning. You could’ve sworn you had been down this hallway before, but they all looked the same.
“Who the hell are you?” a voice came from behind you, causing you to jump.
You quickly turned your head to find a knife pointed at your throat.
You were pretty sure he was glaring at you. Though it was hard to tell, since he had sunglasses and a hat on.
“I’m looking for Portgas D. Ace,” you said, taking a step back.
He pushed his knife closer to your throat. “That’s not what I asked.”
You rolled your eyes and in a flash, you grabbed his wrist and quickly disarmed him. You took the knife and handed it back to him, and then began walking away.
“Hey!” he shouted, running after you. “You’re the Newgate girl, aren’t you!?”
“You shouldn’t run with knives,” you hollered back, trying to walk faster. You had to find Ace. You couldn’t waste your time on this strange man.
“Hey!” You saw a flash of burnt auburn hair under his hood as he darted in front of you again. “Captain said you can’t see them yet. They’re still in critical condition.”
You scowled. “Law told me they were stable.”
“Errrr-” The man looked around, but there was nobody to help him. “They’re mostly stable.”
“Mostly?”
“Let me just take you back to your room. I’m sure you can see them in the morning.” He held his hand out, trying to usher you back the way you came. “I’m Shachi.”
You pushed past him, ignoring his words. You needed to see them. Both of them. Now.
“Hey! Gods, you’re stubborn!” Shachi ran back in front of you trying to block your path again.
This was getting too tedious. You closed your eyes, trying to think about how you had used your observation haki so well earlier during the battle. You calmed your racing thoughts and focused on the task at hand. Letting your mind flow, reaching tendrils out to find Ace.
Two hallways down, a right, and then a left. Ace was in the room on the left, Luffy on the right. You were close. You drew a mental map, making sure you wouldn’t forget.
“Are you okay?” Shachi asked, so close you could feel his breath on you.
You pushed past him and sprinted. You ran down two hallways and took a right. You were close. Just one more-
A familiar blue hue enveloped you, and you were teleported into a strange room. It looked like an office. And at the desk sat Trafalgar Law, reading a book.
“I told you to stay in your room.” He looked at you, exhausted and disappointed. “Are you a child? Do I need to lock your door again to ensure you don’t leave?”
He reminded you of Marco. In the worst ways.
“Am I a prisoner?” you demanded, clenching your fists in case you needed to swing.
“No,” he said. “But that doesn’t mean you can wander around my ship freely.”
You frowned. “I want to see Ace.”
“And I told you that’s a bad idea right now.” He sighed, putting his book down.
You were about to start arguing, but he continued speaking. “If you want to see him, just know I tried to warn you.”
His words made your heart skip a beat, and you wondered if it was worth it to see him in pain. If he died, and this was the last time you saw him…
No, Ace promised he wouldn’t die before you. He would make a full recovery. He was strong. He was powerful. He wouldn’t die from a little bit of lava. He wouldn’t have chosen you if that were the case.
Law stood to his feet and walked to the door, and you silently followed him. He weaved in and out of hallways expertly, until he stood in front of a door.
“Are you sure?” he asked, standing in front of the window. You could hear the sounds of machines methodically beeping and whirring, and your heart felt like it was in your throat.
You could only nod, too scared to speak.
He opened the door and you saw the love of your life, hooked up to machines through a mess of wires and tubes.
You carefully walked over to him, afraid you’d startle him.
“He’s in a coma,” Law said. “You can’t wake him up. You don’t need to be quiet.”
But you still tiptoed around him as you examined him. His entire upper body was covered in bandages, but you could smell the stench of burnt flesh. It made you nauseous just looking at his broken body, and you had to resist the urge to find the nearest trash can.
“When will he wake up?” you asked, looking at Law. You couldn’t keep the fear out of your eyes, you didn’t even bother to hide it.
He took pity on you, thankfully. “Hopefully tomorrow. He needs rest. He needs to decide for himself to survive.”
“And Luffy?” you asked, looking at the room across the hall.
“He’s in the same boat. Ace’s back took most of the damage, but Luffy still got a decent amount of damage across his chest.”
“Can I sit here for a bit?” you asked, looking back to Ace. You could barely tell it was him, and it made you want to weep just seeing him so broken.
“Sure,” Law said. “I’ll have Shachi put up indicators to get back to your room.”
You nodded. Tears were pooling in your eyes, and you knew if you spoke anymore, you would lose your composure.
You waited until Law closed the door before you broke down. Your sobs and gasps for air filled the room, mixing with the artificial sounds of beeps and monotone sounds.
“You promised,” you whispered, grabbing his hand lightly and interlocking your fingers. “You promised you wouldn’t leave me. So please. Don’t leave me here alone. I can’t bear it, Ace. I can’t do it by myself.”
He didn’t answer, of course. You didn’t expect him to. Instead, you held his hand and rested your head on his mattress.
Maybe Law was right. Maybe he would wake up tomorrow, right alongside you. And all would be right with the world again. Maybe.

TWST story idea (8)
Inspired by a certain beast tamer Yuu post from a long time ago. Can't remember the name, sorry.
Yuu got called a beast tamer, but the only beast they have is Grim. Comparing to Kalim, who has a whole zoo, and Rook the Hunter, who has tendencies to attract animals, as well as Riddle with his hedgehogs and flamingos, the title beast tamer should have been handed to either three of them instead of Yuu.
It was a joke. Yuu knew it the moment Crowley called them a beast tamer, perhaps to flatter them into accepting a job or something, but no matter, Yuu is a joke in everyone's eyes.
Yuu is getting sick of getting asked if they have any animals or why they are called a beast tamer and so on. They don't know how to answer those, even if they do, it's not like it's going to improve their situation anyway.
Pissed off and feeling very petty, Yuu decided to tackle this the only way they know how. All those games are not for nothing, and Yuu ks going to put it to good use. Yuu is prepared for this. The time has come, and Yuu will not stand still when they are questioned again.
Yuu is gonna catch 'em all!
Yuu immediately goes on an adventure to snatch some monsters in the wilderness, and what do you know? Yuu is really a beast tamer. The monsters they brought home speak volumes.
"What's that? Oh, I'm sorry, I couldn't hear you over the purring of my gigantic chimera right next to me. Simply put, f*ck off!"
"How did I find Cerberus? I rowed myself to the underworld, you f*cker! Don't you dare call him fake! Go eat him, Cerby!"
"Oh damn. My phoenix set someone on fire. Hey, hey! It's going to be alright, I heard the phoenix is a bird of rebirth. You're going to be fine."
"Yes, I have a griffin, yes, I have a unicorn, a pegasus, a basilisk, and also yes, I have a bunch of normal animals too. You know what I don't have? Thaumarks. Pay up, b*tch. I need to feed my babies."
It goes without fail that a different beast will accompany Yuu and Grim to class, and due to this, it's not that easy to approach Yuu anymore. The beasts are effective bodyguards. There are no more jokes about a beast tamer; Yuu is the real deal now.
The boys could go deal with school and overblots; Yuu is gonna do the equivalent of farm life in the ramshackle dorm.
A different outlook would be instead of taming beasts, Yuu tamed people instead. Yuu is getting sick of these rude people so they decided to make the bullies their 'pet'.
Savanaclaw is the first victim since most unruly and undisciplined students came from here. Since this is a dorm filled with beastmen, naturally, power rules the weak is a norm.
Yuu did something that straight-up made the Savanaclaw students docile and obedient through incredible violence, harsh discipline, and volcano-like anger. The students that followed Yuu were either full of simps or simply out of fear or respect.
Second would be Diasomnia and Yuu obtain them without lifting a finger, believe it or not. Malleus is already wrapped around Yuu's finger since the beginning, if the respected housewarden and heir to the Briar Valley is like this, it only prompted the others to follow Yuu as well. They will treat Yuu like royalty. Simply put, Yuu got the whole package without asking.
Couldn't decide who's next. My brain ain't braining anymore. For those who wish to use the prompt, do tag me please. I want to read.

hi Kait!! might i be able to request "Black Dahlia - a lie" with Bradley bradshaw pleaseeee thank you!
ngl i think i got a little too carried away with this but man oh man did i have fun, pls enjoy!
black dahlia: a lie, bradley "rooster" bradshaw x reader, rooster is a total simp, 2.3k
Rooster had a staring problem. Sometimes he spaced out in the middle of a training debrief without realizing he was looking straight at Phoenix the whole time, sometimes his furrowed brows made Maverick think he was angry at something when in reality he was just focused. Sometimes he creeped random people out because he just…didn’t know he was staring.
But most times, the unsuspecting focus of his staring was you. There was just something about you that had his eyes searching for you in every room he entered, drew his eyes to you every time you entered. He just couldn’t help it. Everything about you, from the way you laughed, to the way that you said his name, to the way your eyes sparkled when you smiled at him. Even the way you elbowed him in the ribs when he made a terrible joke had him hooked on you.
And you had no idea.
“Rooster. Rooster, you didn't laugh at my—what are you even looking at?” Hangman sounded deflated, but once his eyes tracked Rooster’s line of sight to you he knew what was going on in that feathery nicknamed brain of his friend. He’d known it pretty much all along. It was an unspoken thing, but he knew. Everyone knew. Everyone except you, apparently.
“Oh, I see it now. You don’t like my jokes as much as you like Y/N.”
Rooster tore his gaze from where you were chatting with Penny at the bar to see Hangman with his hands on his hips, looking entirely too smug. “Sorry, what?” His ears had picked up the blond man’s jest, but surely he’d heard it wrong.
“There’s no shame in admitting it. You have a crush on her.”
“I’m not ashamed, I’m just—”
“So you do have a crush!”
Rooster scowled, brows pinching in the middle as he gripped the neck of his beer a little tighter. “I’m a grown man, I don’t have a crush.”
“So you’re in love.”
“What? No, I’m not—we’re…friends, that’s it.”
“You’re a terrible liar, Bradshaw.” Phoenix cut in, poking him in the gut with the end of her pool cue. “Cut the shit and let us know how you really feel.”
There really wasn’t any way out of this other than to tell the truth, so he sighed. “Okay, so maybe—just maybe—I might possibly have some feelings for Y/N.”
“Yeah, and those feelings are called love,” Hangman said smugly, an ever present smirk gracing his face once again. He wasn’t wrong. He was actually right on the money, but Rooster would be damned if he let that son of a bitch know he was right.
“Screw you, Hangman. I’m not talking about this anymore.”
He thought he must’ve sounded more serious than he’d intended, because Hangman actually shut up for once, zipping his lips with an imaginary key before miming throwing it over his shoulder. Phoenix just nodded, knowing well enough not to push her luck with the subject.
Nothing about the conversation was mentioned the rest of the night, especially not when you’d made your way back over to the group of them and stayed for a while. Rooster almost forgot about it until a few days later.
Flight training had let out for the day a little later than usual, nearing half past seven when the pilots were finally trailing into the parking lot to go home.
“Up for a round at the Hard Deck, fellas?” Hangman offered. There were a few mumbled declines to the invitation scattered amongst the squad and he looked disappointed. Leave it to Hangman to still have energy for a beer after the grueling day they’d all just had.
Rooster had half a mind to say no too. All he wanted to do was go home and sit on the couch and probably do nothing for the rest of the night, that’s how tired he was. He wandered towards where he’d parked the Bronco this morning, getting almost halfway there when he heard Hangman’s voice again.
“Phoenix, c’mon, I know you’ll do me a solid this time. I’ll buy. I’ll even let you win at pool!”
“No can do, Bagman, I’m in a time crunch—gotta get to Y/N’s house.”
Upon hearing your name, Rooster froze, willing himself to walk away, but his curiosity won out very quickly. He turned around as casually as he could, hiking his duffel a little higher on his shoulder. “Everything okay?”
“Yeah, she’s fine. She asked to borrow a necklace for her date tonight, so I gotta pop over there before she heads out.” Phoenix shrugged, patting her jacket pocket. Rooster couldn’t help the way his eyebrows flew up in surprise and she noticed, knowing smile already gracing her lips. “Everything okay with you, Bradshaw?”
“Fine. It’s, uh—no, yeah everything’s good.” He mumbled, clearing his throat. Hangman coughed from behind him, sounding suspiciously like ‘bullshit’, but Rooster paid him no mind. He was more focused on the fact you were going on a date with someone else. Someone that wasn’t him.
Then again, who the fuck did he think he was, having some kind of bullshit thoughts about who you went out with. He had no right, he knew that. But that didn’t stop him from feeling like he’d just been punched in the gut.
“Hey, why don’t I drop it off for you?” He blurted, pressing his lips into a thin smile. Phoenix looked confused. He was confused at himself too, honestly. What the hell was he doing? “I just, I mean your place is the opposite way and I’m gonna pass her neighborhood anyways, so…I can do it.” Now she looked amused.
“Since when did you get all helpful and shit?”
“Pretty sure I’ve always been helpful.”
“You sure there’s no other reason why you’re volunteering to see her? None at all? Maybe one starting with L and rhyming with shove?” Hangman chimed in, grinning wickedly. Phoenix nodded in agreement, her smile now mirroring his.
“I’ll shove you, Hangman. Shut up.” Rooster said sharply. He turned his gaze back to Phoenix. “No. No other reason. I’ll drop it off on my way home and that’s it.”
It was a bold faced lie and he knew his friends saw right through it, but he didn’t really care.
“Okay. Suit yourself.” She shrugged, fishing the necklace out of her pocket and pouring it into his outstretched hand. “Would ya look at that, Bagman? Looks like I’m free to beat you at pool after all.”
“I’m not buying you a beer anymore, that was a one time offer and it’s expired,” Hangman protested, much to Phoenix’s chagrin because she scoffed.
“Like hell it has! You promised a free beer and a win, I expect you to deliver. But make an effort to play fair, don’t just throw the game ‘cause that wouldn’t be a good look for me.”
Rooster could hear their bickering until he hopped into his car, but he peeled out of the parking lot in a blink, on the move to you.
He didn’t have a wisp of a plan in his mind when he pulled to a stop in front of your place. His hands shook where they were clenched around the steering wheel and he was sweating a little bit, but he had no idea what he was going to say to you. He just knew he needed to say something.
Five minutes and countless unhelpful self pep talks later, Rooster was finally ringing the doorbell, necklace in his pocket but still no clearer on what his end goal was. His mind went even more blank when you opened the door, because shit, you were breathtaking.
You had on a pretty dress in his favorite color and you were adjusting the strap of your heel when you laid eyes on him standing on your doorstep. Putting aside the confusion on your face at the sight of him and not Phoenix, Rooster would rank this as one of his favorite moments ever.
“Bradley?” You sounded concerned, nose crinkled to match. “What are you doing here?”
“Uh…” He trailed off, probably sounding completely stupid as he blinked at you dumbfoundedly. You said his name again, a little louder this time, and he snapped out of it.
He dug around in his pocket clumsily until his fingers closed around the delicate chain and pulled it out, letting it dangle from his hand as he held it out. “Nat asked me to swing this by on my way home from base.” He didn’t want to tell you it was actually him who insisted on being the one to save the day. That would sound too weird, maybe even borderline creepy.
Your eyes lit up at the sight of your awaited necklace and you beamed, beckoning him into your front hallway. “You’re the sweetest, Bradley. Thank you so much, you really didn’t have to detour.”
“S’no problem. What’s a few more minutes on the road to help a friend?”
“Maybe a few more minutes.” You said sheepishly, looking a tad embarrassed. “D’you—would you mind helping me put it on? I’ve never been good at clasping them on my own.”
“Oh! Uh, yeah. Sure.” He moved behind you, trying not to inhale too sharply when you moved your hair off your neck. God, all he wanted to do was whirl you around and kiss you. Instead, he decided to make some small talk to get his mind out of where it shouldn’t have been in the first place. “So…you’re going on a date. With who? Maybe I know ‘em.”
“Probably not. He’s not Navy, I met him at the gym a few weeks ago. His name’s Vinny. He’s a boxer.”
Vinny. Sounded like an asshole name.
“Didn’t know boxers were your type.” He said casually, working deftly to latch the tiny hook.
“Yeah?” You sounded amused. “And what exactly do you think my type is?”
Me, he wanted to say. But he held his tongue, instead opting for a noise of nonchalance.
“That’s a shame. Would’ve thought you of all people would know.”
“Why?”
“You’ve always seemed to know me best.” You said simply. Rooster’s fingers fumbled the clasp in surprise. “When I’m down, you always know how to make me smile. When I’m upset, you seem to know exactly what’ll help. You know everything I like, everything I hate. You know me like the back of your hand. How is that?”
“I…pay attention.”
“So that means you know Hangman’s favorite song? Fanboy’s comfort movie? What about Phoenix and Bob’s secret handshake?” You weren’t facing him, so he had no idea if you were being serious or not, but he was stumped.
His mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water, brain scrambling for any shred of an excuse for not knowing any of those answers. He paid attention, yes, but only to you. Rooster’s fingers brushed along your bare shoulder softly in lieu of a response, too tender of a moment for two friends to be sharing.
“Don’t go.” He breathed. You froze, and Rooster swore it was the longest few seconds in his life. But then you turned around, wide eyes searching for his. Your lips parted like you were about to say something, but he shook his head, inhaling a shaky breath. “Don’t go on that date.”
“Why?” Your voice was impossibly quiet, so much so that he wouldn’t have heard you say anything at all had you not been this close to each other.
“Because when Phoenix mentioned it, I felt like I’d just done an inverted dive. And not in a good way, I’m talking about the ‘I’m about to puke’ feeling. Because I can’t stop thinking about you even though I should be thinking about anything else, because I don’t know what I’d do if we weren’t friends. Because I don’t wanna be just friends anymore.” Rooster admitted, trying to keep his voice as steady as possible. He was too far in now to quit and run away with his tail between his legs. This was happening, whether it was a good idea or not. “Because…I’m in love with you.”
You just blinked at him slowly, processing his words the best you could. He could practically see the wheels turning in your head, and it did nothing to quell the ball of nerves turning over in the pit of his stomach.
Forget what he was feeling earlier—this was definitely the longest few seconds of his life. It felt more like an eternity.
He was about to apologize, to say sorry for dumping out his feelings for you right before you were about to go on a date with someone else, but you beat him to the punch with something much, much better.
You grabbed him by the collar of his jacket and you kissed him. Hard.
More surprised than anything, it took him a beat to register what was actually happening, but his hands slid around your waist to splay across your back when it finally sunk in. He backed you against the nearest wall, but took special care in slipping a hand behind your head so it didn’t bounce off it, all while never letting his mouth leave yours. Your hands found their way to his broad shoulders, roaming around the expanse of flexed muscle shifting under your palms.
It wasn’t the perfect kiss. It was clumsy and messy and a little overexcited, but it was perfect to Rooster. He could only hope you were thinking the same.
He finally (albeit reluctantly) pulled away a bit, just enough to give you some air. “What do you think? Are you—does this mean what I think it means?”
You smiled, linking your hands behind his neck. “I think…I’ve come down with a nasty case of food poisoning and I need to cancel my date.” You said softly.
Rooster nodded solemnly. “And I think I should stay. Y’know, in case you need anything during this awful bout of said food poisoning.”
“That’s a good idea.”

Not Like Any Guy I Met
Tumblr media
Paring: Jake "Hangman" Seresin x plus size! reader
Summary: You realize that a name doesn't really define a person, especially if their call sign is Hangman.
a/n: it's a bit short, but I wanted to write about him after watching Top Gun for the 3rd time lol
You never felt head over heels for a guy till you met Jake, a.k.a Hangman.
He was quite the charmer, especially with his sharp wit and blinding smile. You couldn't say no to him when he asked to take you out on a date.
"I love this song." Jake said as he leans by the jukebox at the Hard Deck. You don't pay attention to the man who was by you, only seeing his navy uniform. "Souvenir by Billy Joel... it's one of the classics." you said, not trying to pay attention to him. "You know, my dad always told me that when you meet a girl who likes Billy Joel, you should take her out on a date." You scoff, almost laughing. "Really, your dad said that?" You ask, now turning around to see Jake for the first time. He was very handsome; and those dark blonde locks and green eyes? You could almost melt, but you kept your guard up. He could see you turning the gears in your brain and he smirks. "Let's just say I'm loosely quoting my pops." You take a step closer, crossing your arms as your skepticism takes over. "Okay... Lieutenant Seresin," You said, reading his name tag. "Ask me out." Now it was his turn to be off guard, as his pickup line usually worked 1/9 of the time. But at the end of the night, he got your phone number and the two of you started texting each other the night of.
Jake crossed everything off your list: he was a gentleman, respectful, flirtatious, and not afraid to tell that you have spinach in your teeth (you hate that guys are too embarrassed to tell you).
But one day, you briefly met his friends from work as you were dropping lunch for him. They were shocked at first, saying things like "I'm surprised you haven't broken up with him yet" or "I never met anyone who's dated him for more than a couple of weeks" and the famous quote Phoenix lives by:
"They call him Hangman for a reason."
Maybe they were just fooling around with you or they didn't want to see another girl get hurt, but you knew you had to talk with Jake before your heart gets broken.
Now you were by yourself at a fancy restaurant, waiting for him to arrive back at work. He chose this place and even reserved this table, but work got the best of him so he said that he'd meet you there.
You were fiddling with a small fork on your side and look up, seeing Jake looking a bit out of breath as his clothes seemed a bit wrinkled.
"I'm sorry darlin', I only had time to shower and throw on what I could find when I was done with training. I hope you didn't wait so long and can forgive me."
"Yeah, it's not a problem." You said in a small voice as you give him a sweet peck before he sat down in front of you.
Soon, you two began to eat your appetizers. You didn't say much as you were slightly playing the food on your plate, hearing Jake go on about breaking one Maverick's record.
He was in mid-sentence when he realized that you weren't being yourself, not even stopping him from gloating.
"Is everything alright?" He asks genuinely, reaching out for your hand.
You retreat your hand away from his reach, feeling a bit insecure.
"It's nothing, trust me."
Jake shakes his head, feeling a bit heated.
"I'm not going to let this go! You seem troubled and I want to fix it." Jake said, earning some stares around you.
"You are causing a scene, J." You whispered.
"Is it someone at work that's giving you a problem? I'll come down and give them a piece of my mind-"
"It's you, okay? You're the problem!" You barked back.
The restaurant fell into silence as they heard your outbreak, so you started to tear up and excused yourself out of your table and paid your tab.
Jake was shocked at first until he got to his senses and paid his tab too in order to follow you.
On your way to your car, you can hear him calling your name as he ran after you. You tried to be quick and finally sat in the driver's side, but he was quick enough to open the passenger side and sat down, facing you.
"Go away, Jake." you said, trying so hard not to cry.
"Baby, I just want to know what's going on. Please tell me." He whispers, seeing that this isn't you.
You take a deep breathe and stare into his green eyes.
"Is it true? That your call sign is the same when you date a girl to lead her on so you can leave her hanging?"
He was about to ask you how you could say such things, but he remembers how his friends can talk. All of that cockinesses he displayed really bit him in the ass this time.
He could lie to you, saying that he's not painted as the guy everyone says he is. But he knew he had to come clean.
"I wasn't best known to have the greatest relationship streak. But all of that changed when I met you."
You sigh as you feel your eyes well up.
"Jake, I really like you. You're not like any guy I met. But I need to know if this relationship is serious to you and not a game. If so, I'm not playing it."
He pauses for a moment, trying to find his answer. But his silence made up your mind.
"Please, get out of my car. I never want to see you again" you whispered, as you imparted the last words he would ever hear from you.
He didn't want to leave, but he had to. He slowly slips his way out and stands outside.
You quickly start your car and leave the parking lot, your eyes flooding with tears. You look both ways and began driving away, seeing him where you left him in your rearview mirror.
Focusing on the not so busy road, you start to drive on the main road. Suddenly, Jake jumps in front of your car and you brake harshly seeing him.
You unbuckle and get out of your car.
"Are you INSANE? I almost hit you!"
Jake couldn’t care less as he walked up towards you.
"You're right, okay? I'm not like any guy you met. Sometimes, I think that I'm the world's greatest creation and it gets to my head. I fly planes for a living but for once in my life, I found the girl who brings me down to earth. I want to change for the better because I want you to be in my future.”
You gulp as you hear him say those things. You guys never talked about what would life be like together. He ripped out his heart and held it out for you.
"J..." you whispered, unsure if you want him back,
"You have every right to listen to my friends. I can be a dick sometimes. But let's get one thing straight... I will never hurt you. I can't even fathom it because what did I do to deserve you? So please... can you give this cocky pilot a second chance?"
You don't say a word as Jake stands there in silence in the middle of the road.
"Baby-"
"I just like keeping you on your toes, Seresin. Of course, I want you back."
You hear the relief in his breathing as he holds you by your waist while you hold his face as you two kissed.
You break apart at those green eyes you fell for, knowing that the two of you can work this out.
"But if you break my heart, prepare for a tornado."
Jake chuckles as he brings you closer to his chest.
"I wouldn't dream of it, darlin'."

Nursing day
Tumblr media
Quicksilver x reader
Summary: The last battle against Jean was not gratifying and your boyfriend got the worst of it. Now while he is in the infirmary you visit him every so often and take care of him
Warning: injuries, mention of blood, fluff, a bit of angst, very poor plot of the film dark phoenix, spoilers of that movie, mention of death by impalement, a bit of coursing words
Tumblr media
Jean was out of control, we didn't understand what was happening to her and to top it off she refused to receive help. Ororo, Hank, Charles, Raven, Scott, Peter, and I were trying to reason with her and reassure her that we wouldn't hurt her. On the other hand, the patrolmen had managed to upset Jean and now all that remained was to try to stop her, unfortunately we had to fight. Kurt was the first to strike, he teleported behind her but Jean's powers had expanded to unmatched levels and with a simple movement of her hand she pushed Kurt away as if he were a simple fly. Some policemen had approached and were pointing their guns at Jean, scared I approached but a hand stopped me
"Not yet"
Professor Xavier sitting next to me looked at me with a worried frown, he knew that even if I wanted to stop her it would be impossible.
Concerned, I saw how before the policemen could shoot, Jean yelled for them to stop and extending her arms, she overturned the cars, moving away, also blowing up the policemen. I could see that Jean's eyes had an orange aura around the pupil, right in the iris. And from his cheeks ran some kind of veins the color of fire.
This was too much for me, I wanted to help and I didn't know how. I was a mutant with cryokinesis. I could absorb energy and convert it into ice, as well as freeze things and people. Even so, I didn't think my powers could be of much use this time, Jean far surpassed me, to tell the truth, at that moment she surpassed all of us. I was trying to think of a strategy while Raven was talking to Jean to reassure her when to my horror I watched as Raven flew off and was impaled near a tree. I felt my legs lose strength as I raised a hand to my mouth in horror, Charles next to me had wet eyes and his lips trembled. Hank yelled her name hoarsely as he went to help her but unfortunately it was too late.
This was getting out of hand and I stepped in determined to end this once and for all. I could already feel that characteristic cold in my hands when I used my powers when suddenly Charles stopped me again.
"No!...wait.."
I turned around annoyed, not understanding why our professor refused to cooperate and stood idly by, but when I saw his afflicted face and his eyes full of tears, I understood that he didn't want to lose another student. I shake my head in frustration as I rack my brain trying to come up with some plan that will work, when I feel Peter stop next to me.
"Leave it to me"
With a quick and sure movement he put the glasses he was wearing on his head and ran towards Jean before we could stop him. Charles and I yelled at him to stop but he was gone at the speed of light. With my heart in a fist I was expecting the worst. Peter went to her climbing pieces of wood, we couldn't see him because he was going very fast but I could see how Jean made a movement of her hand and moved away a board where Peter was just going to step making him lose his balance and fall. Peter fell like a sack of potatoes and rolled abruptly ending up sprawled on the grass of a garden.
"NO!"
I screamed at the top of my lungs and trembling I ran to where Peter was. I approached calling him urgently but he didn't respond, his face was dirty and bruised. I took his face in fear. I saw how blood began to emanate from a wound on his forehead. Compunged and with teary eyes, I quickly looked for his pulse and breathed with relief when I verified that he was only unconscious. Inside me, sadness and anger swirled. I wanted to break everything. I was furious, with Jean, with Charles but especially with myself. If I hadn't hesitated so much I could have prevented this, or at least prevented Peter from going to confront him and going instead, even though that meant I could end up badly hurt.
when all seemed lost, out of nowhere Jean realized the damage she had done, she seemed to have woken up from a heavy trance. She looked around scared and with a special grimace of grief towards where Raven's body was. She couldn't help it and flew off in a hurry after muttering sorry. Apparently Charles had restored Jean's mind to normal.
With Raven's body in Hank's arms and Kurt and Scott holding Peter we rushed to the mansion urgently. I held Peter's hand in anguish, hoping that he would recover and that it was nothing too serious. When we got there Peter was taken to a parlor to put him on a gurney while the others prepared Raven's funeral. I stayed with Storm sitting on a bench. I was nervous so she put a hand on my shoulder and comforted me saying that everything would be fine. So much had happened in such a short time, and I didn't know who to feel worse for than Raven or my boyfriend, Peter.
Suddenly I saw Peter come out on a stretcher. I immediately stood up and ran to where they were taking him. His face was destroyed, he was wearing a bandage on his head and blood was coming out of his nose, apparently broken.
"Peter..!"
He turned making an effort to look at me, his eyes seemed to ask for help. They quickly took him to the infirmary. I took a step and stretched out my arm as if trying to catch my boyfriend who was walking away hurt. Storm stopped me by grabbing my hand as if she was afraid I might run away. Seeing him like this was the straw that broke the camel's back and I began to cry inconsolably collapsing in Ororo's arms.
"Don't worry, everything will be fine, at least he's still alive"
She rubbed my back as she wrapped me in a warm hug, but I couldn't calm down. I felt terribly guilty, if I had used my powers before Peter wouldn't be in the infirmary now.
Tumblr media
The days that followed were hard, we didn't know anything about Jean and Raven's absence felt present like a heavy shadow loaded with misery. Peter was still being cared for in the infirmary but visitors were still not being accepted. I bite my nails all the time walking from here to there in my room. From time to time Scott or Kurt would visit me and tell me that I don't have to worry about anything and that I could see Peter soon.
and indeed it was. One day I was trying to study without much success when someone knocked on my door, it was Scott. He seemed to have a confident smile and that could only mean one thing, I nervously asked him.
"Yeah, you can go see him"
I felt a weight lift off of me, hugged Scott and ran to the infirmary. Upon arrival they told me that Peter was resting but that I could see him for a few minutes. Nervously I entered the room and saw my boyfriend lying on the table with a bandage on his nose, on his head and a bruise on his eye. I felt my stomach drop but I tried to keep my composure so it wouldn't show. I sat near him in a chair. Despite the injuries he seemed to sleep peacefully, I couldn't help but put my hand on his caressing him. Feeling the warmth of my hand Peter woke up confused. He slowly turned his head with a wince and looked at me with tired eyes. I smiled at him as best I could but my eyes were starting to get wet again.
"Hey.. Elsa"
Peter always made fun of me by calling me that. I couldn't help but shake my head and laugh, but soon the laughter turned into crying and lowering my head I started to sob, all the emotions that I had experienced those days came together and came out in the form of tears.
Peter looked at me with a frown.
"Please, don't cry."-said almost in a whisper
But I couldn't help it, I grabbed my face with my hands. Peter made an effort to reach out a hand and put it on my arm with a pitiful whimper. Noticing this, I quickly held his hand, fearing that he might hurt himself by trying too hard.
"Baby, I'm ok"-he said
Peter went to great lengths to pretend everything was fine when he had a broken nose and a bruised eye. But that filled me with tenderness, he just didn't want to worry me
"Shh..don't say anything, you have to regain your strength"
I took his hand and kissed the back of it and he smiled. Peter may have a super quick regeneration ability but this time it will definitely take him a little longer to recover. When visiting hours were over, I promised Peter that I would visit him every day and bring him something different so he wouldn't get bored.
I went to see Peter the next day, carrying a Walkman with his favorite playlist. I sat in the same chair with the walkman hidden in my back
"Hi sweetie"
Peter looked at me with a glint of excitement in his eyes and a small smirk.
"Hi doll"
"guess what i brought for you today"
Peter just shrugged slowly so I showed him the walkman and his smile widened. I got up and put him the headphones on giving him a sweet little kiss on the tip of his nose.
"Ow"
His nose was still hurt, I laughed softly and apologized. Luckily now Peter could move a little more so he grabbed the walkman and picked a song at random. Some songs that I had chosen were songs that we used to listen to together.
"Listen to number 5, I know you'll like it"
He obeyed me. His serious face little by little lit up and transformed into an open smile, almost a laugh.
"I can't believe you added this song" he laughed "Sweet dreams are made of this.."
Of course, I had to add his favorite song that he made me listen to exhaustion only to look at me funny when I hummed it distractedly. The minutes passed and once again I had to leave Peter alone but promising to return another day.
Tumblr media
The days passed and I brought him more and more things to entertain himself. One day I went to a comic book store and bought his favorites.
Peter was already waiting impatiently for me to know what I had brought him this time, when I entered my boyfriend looked at me anxiously like a child waiting for his Christmas present. Patiently he waited for me to sit in my chair like a learned ritual and asked me what I had brought him this time.
"You have to guess, love"
That was a kind of game that we had between the two of us, every time I brought him something he had to guess. If I noticed that it was difficult for him to guess the object, I would leave clues for him. If he didn't guess it, sometimes he made me beg a little until he begged me to give it to him. And if he guessed as a prize, he would not only give him the object but also a kiss.
"Mmh is my favorite drink?" I shook my head.
"Ok, ok. Did you bring me a gameboy?"
"Sorry, not today"
Peter put a finger to his forehead trying to think by closing his eyes. I laughed at his face.
"Damn, babe give me a clue." Peter made a piteous pout.
"Okay, the object behind my back is smooth and is something children often read"
Peter frowned and stared at nothing, confused and thinking, I had to stifle a laugh. Suddenly he opened his eyes in surprise.
"I know!, you brought me a comic!!"
"Ding, ding, ding!. You got it"
I gave the comic to Peter giving him a tender kiss as well, who started clapping like a child. It did me good to see him happy. I knew how hard it was for him to be on a stretcher without being able to use his powers. That's why I did my best so that he wouldn't get bored and disobey by escaping from the infirmary.
As the days passed Peter was recovering, his bruise had completely disappeared and several bandages had been removed. Even he could already sit up straight on the stretcher. This time I brought him something special, something he had always wanted but for some reason could never have. Even as a good kleptomaniac that he was, he had tried to steal it from stores without much success.
"How is my favorite boy?"
Peter sat grinning on his stretcher.
"Very bad, I have abstinence from your kisses"
I rolled my eyes laughing as our usual guessing game began.
"Alright, I guess you brought me a water pistol today" He said with his arms crossed and raising an eyebrow smiling
"No, but you were close, it's a toy"
"An action figure?"
"Nope"
Peter ran out of ideas and began listing all the toys he knew.
"A robot? A ship? A drone? Come on doll, what is it?. He grumbled angry
"You give up? Oh then I guess I can't give it to you"
Peter leaned back on the stretcher pouting and grunting, I couldn't help but laugh and so he wouldn't get mad at me I showed him the toy. When Peter saw it his face went from a frustrated grimace to a gaping ecstasy and surprise. What he had brought her was a lit red remote-controlled car. But it wasn't just any car, it was a limited edition toy that Peter had seen in an ad when he was a kid.
"NO WAY! WHERE DID YOU GET IT?!"
"At a garage fair, I exchanged it for another object" I said laughing while my boyfriend took the car and began to play
I saw him happy as a loving mother watching her son grow. Suddenly, Peter stopped playing and looked at me seriously, stretching out his arms as if he wanted to hug me.
"And my kiss?"
I approached him laughing happily and planted a kiss on his lips taking his face in my hands
Tumblr media
That afternoon I was trying to figure out what gift I could bring to Peter. I didn't know when they were going to discharge him so I had no choice but to keep looking for things that he liked. I didn't know what to give him anymore, I had gone to convenience stores, thrift stores, even his favorite fast food joints.
I went to my room to try to find something I could do with my own hands, it would be a different gift, handmade but I was sure he would like it. I rummaged through my desk opening and closing drawers without finding anything that would help me. I turned my room on its head without being able to find something that would work for Peter. In a bad mood I left there walking through the halls and asking my friends what I could give him. No one gave me an answer to my liking.
It was already time for the visit to the infirmary and I had nothing to bring him. Disappointed, I had no choice but to go to where Peter was and tell him that I hadn't brought him anything. I could already imagine his face, at first he would laugh thinking it was a joke, but then he would look at me disappointed but not before trying to hide it by telling me that it didn't matter. I hated to disappoint Peter. With these thoughts in my head I distractedly headed to the infirmary but upon entering the room I had not realized that Peter's stretcher was empty. I had my head down and that's why I didn't realize it but when I raised it and my eyes searched the place I worried. Where the hell had Peter gone? Didn't he take it anymore and ran away?
Cursing under my breath I started looking everywhere for him nervously.. Peter could be very impulsive and do stupid things when he got bored. I went to other rooms in the infirmary in case they had transferred him but I couldn't find him. Nervous, I ran through the entire mansion looking for him. In the end I was standing at the entrance of the mansion staring out and biting a nail concentrated. Damn it, where could he have gone?
"Shit, shit ,shit. You only had one rule and you broke it, idiot. Why didn't you stay in the infirmary? Don't you realize you're hurt, you sewer slime?"
If I were in a cartoon, smoke would already be coming out of my ears. Suddenly a voice behind me froze my blood
"Uhh, do you talk to your mother with that mouth, baby?"
I turned around in disbelief, there in front of me was Peter with his usual clothes looking at me with mockery. I yelled with excitement and hugged him around his neck as he picked me up and spun me around until I laughed.
when he put me down I gave him a little hit on his shoulder and told him angrily
"Where the fuck were you??, I looked for you everywhere"
"First of all ouch, and secondly the nurse released me this morning. She told me that my wounds are healed, what do you think?"
Peter spread his arms wide and spun around as if he were posing in a new set of clothes. I smiled and gave him a passionate kiss that he returned around my waist.
"You could have told me, couldn't you?"
"Sorry, babe it was a surprise. I also wanted to see how you got angry, it's adorable"
"Peter.."
"Sorry"
Peter cleared his throat. "Speaking seriously, I wanted to thank you for everything you did for me these days, even if it wasn't necessary. It's nice that you went to the trouble of entertaining a loser like me."
Sometimes Peter called himself a loser even though he really wasn't. In fact, sometimes I didn't know if he did it on purpose to pity me and manipulate me into doing him a favor or if he actually thought that way about himself. This time he seemed sincere.
I put a finger to his lips shutting him up."It was a pleasure to have done all that for you"
He smiled puffing out his chest with pride.
"And you already know that you are my favorite loser"-I winked mischievously

Summary: It was just a simple day, feeling lonely without your boys and enjoying the sun with your friends. That was until your simple day became a very happy one.
Request: So on the soulmates to the 3 boys... the one that's been filtering through my brain is them surprising the reader while they're meant to be in deployment. Like got home early
Warnings: Soulmate au, fluff
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your day started off like any other day, it was beautiful out as you woke up to a extremely empty bed, the only spot with warmth for the past few months was yours.
You got up, made the bed exactly how Jake liked it, the rest of you all always humored him and made the bed that way. You then got yourself dressed and ready for you day.
Slowly, you made your way downstairs, still a little groggy when the door bell rang. And rang. And rang. “I am coming! Jeez!” You huffed, “I need to remember to have that disconnected,” You muttered to yourself. You grew up without one and now in this new house you had one, it drove you crazy.
You opened the door, finding Phoenix, Payback, Fanboy, and Coyote there. “What?” You asked, running hand over your face tiredly, ignoring the names tattooed on your wrist as you just wished they were home already.
“No “Hi guys! Sorry I have been holing myself away!”? You wound us!” Coyote told you, making you sigh, Coyote and Phoenix haven’t been letting you stay by yourself. Coyote has been Jake's best friend for so long, he made it very clear he would be taking care of his best friends girl. Phoenix was also yours, Roosters, and Bobs best friend and she made it her job to not let you get into a slump. You truly did appreciate everyone trying to help you. “Sorry, I just got up,” you laughed, rubbing your neck. “Really? That isn’t like you,” Fanboy said, looking at you with concern.
You let them in and made a motion to the paperwork on your kitchen table. “Had to finish those documents up before tomorrow,” you told them.
“Well, today is a relaxing day. You need to get out into the sun, enjoy the beautiful weather, and have fun,” Phoenix grinned. “Now march up those stairs and get changed into your bathing suit!” She chuckled. You had a nice little pool in your backyard, you mock saluted her, “Yes ma’am!” you rolled your eyes laughing. It was a lost battle to try and fight them on this, you knew it was for the best too or else you would just be finding more work to do.
As soon as you were out of ear shot, Phoenix turned to them. “Everything going to plan?” She asked, knowing Coyote got a text. He nodded, “Maverick is picking them up as we speak and they’ll be on their way home. It is going to take around two hours because they’re stopping at my place to get the flowers,” he said, texting the group. She nodded, “Okay, good,” she said and they all dropped the conversation as you came downstairs.
You spent the two hours outside with them, until you got out to sunbathe and dry off with Phoenix. “Thank you,” You told her, looking over and pulling your sunglasses down, “For?” she asked, doing the same. “Keeping me from drowning in my sadness. It’s never easy when any of us are away from each other but you’ve really helped me these past few months,” you smiled. She squeezed your hand, “Just a little while longer,” she told you, you smiled and nodded. You figured you had a while still but she meant something else.
“Hey, can you go in and get some more of the sunblock?” She asked and you nodded, throwing on your shorts to help stop a chill when you entered the house.
What you didn’t know was Maverick just pulled up with your boys.
You went in and looked around for it, it was suddenly put in front of you, “Lost something?” Bob chuckled, looking at you. You thanked him out of habit, it didn’t even click at first and then you stopped dead in your tracks. “Wait, Bobby?” You whispered. “We’re here too!” Bradley laughed, Jake standing right next to him.
There they were, still in uniform as Bradley held the flowers for you. You quickly tackled them into a hug, trying to grip onto all three of them at once. Your heart was pounding in your chest and you barely noticed the tears falling down your cheeks. They all quickly enveloped you into a hug, just clinging to each other as you cried.
Quickly, you pulled them each into a kiss, “I missed you so much,” you laughed, the biggest smile on your face. “Darlin, we missed you too,” Jake murmured, kissing you again.
You saw Phoenix recording and rolled your eyes with a fond smile, “You were all in on this?” You giggled, “Damn straight,” Payback grinned. “Alright people, time to clear out. We can harass the lovely soulmates tomorrow, they have a reunion to do!” Phoenix laughed making you glare playfully, “Shush you!”
It was later that night after you all showed how much you all missed each other, you got into bed. As you did and Jake wrapped his arms around you, you thought of the fact you won’t be waking up to a freezing cold bed again in the morning. Usually you would make a joke about them being heaters but tonight, you enjoyed not being so cold.
After all, you had your warmth back.

The Invisible Woman Chapter Eleven: Unity of Hell
Series Masterlist
Pairing: Jake Seresin x female!reader
TW:angst, memory loss, I think thats it?
Summary: Jake comes to visit you in the hospital and you try to make sense of the situation you're in.
Word count:2.5k
A/N: this chapter feels a little rushed but I can’t bring myself to rewrite it and drag it out. Besides I know y’all are ready for a break from the angst ❤️
Tumblr media
As soon as the words leave your mouth you're whisked away and Jake watches in slow motion. His feet are glued in place and he feels his entire nervous system go into shock.
He chokes on a sob as his hands come up to rest in his hair, golden locs sticking up all over the place. You don't remember him.
He doesn't know what happened after that, his brain seems to shut down and he goes numb.
You're kept in medical as they fuss over you, trying and failing to get any information. You don't speak again, only nodding or shaking your head to answer yes and no questions.
They were able to confirm your name but beyond that, what happened is still a mystery. You can't stop thinking about the blonde man that hugged you.
You can't place who is for the life of you, but something deep in your being knows him. You know his voice and emerald green eyes, and based on his reaction you know he's someone important to you.
You want to see him again and ask him a million questions. Why did you feel electricity shoot through you when he touched your skin?
Why did his cologne smell like home and wrap you in inexplicable comfort? Why was every cell in your body screaming to turn around and run back to him? Who is he and even more pressing, why do you miss him when you don't even know his name?
You want to remember. The pain in his eyes and the sight of tears rolling down his chiseled face caused an ache in your bones and you don't know why.
You don't remember anything if you're being honest. You know that you're a sniper in the navy, and you're aware you were captured but other than that it's blank.
You can't recall anything that happened and you're frustrated.
Jake doesn't see you again for three days and in that time, he's experienced more agony than the last three months combined.
The first thing he did when they docked was call the team. They believed he had finally crossed over into insanity until Phoenix confirmed that she saw you herself and you are in fact alive.
Jake has been out of his mind trying to get information on your condition and where they took you.
When Ice finally gets the name of the hospital, he mulls over his options for another day. He wants to see you but at the same time, he doesn't want to overwhelm you.
He can't imagine what you've been through and he doesn't know if he can handle it if he shows up and you still don't know him.
He eventually says fuck it and goes anyway.
At the hospital, you're about to rip your hair out by the roots. You've talked to at least ten military officials, each one asking questions you don't want the answers to.
Right now there's a man in front of you holding a clipboard with a displeased expression.
"Do you remember what led to the attack?"
You roll your eyes against your better judgment, already fed up with the interrogation. You finally found your voice, but now you wish you would've just pretended to be mute.
"No."
He frowns and scribbles on the paper before turning his attention back to you.
"Do you remember what you did when your team was killed? What procedures you followed, how long it was before you were captured, anything?"
As soon as you register the first question the heart monitor starts beeping rapidly and you feel bile burn your throat.
"Wait, what did you say about my team being killed?" You whisper and he looks like a deer in headlights.
"Oh, I uh- I thought you knew." He babbles but you don't hear him.
An uneasiness settles in you and the blood thumping in your ears is deafening. Your stomach lurches and you grab the bedpan next to you seconds before you start to dry heave.
The doctor and nurses rush in when they hear your vitals spike and shove the man out of the room with harsh glares. You come to the conclusion he wasn't supposed to tell you that, and you wonder what else is being kept from you.
Once again you're left reeling and for some reason, the only thing you can think of is the man on the ship. Somehow you know he would be able to comfort you and say all the right things.
You hope that he shows up.
Once the staff calms you down, the words tumble out before you can process them.
"There was a man on the boat, he seemed like he knew me. Has anyone mentioned him?" You ask and the doctor frowns.
"I'm afraid not. If you have his information we can contact him for you." He offers and you can't explain the tears that sting your eyes when you realize you may never see him again.
"No, I- I don't know who he is. I mean, I do but I don't. I know that he's someone important to me, I could feel it, but everything is black." You explain and the doctor gives you a sympathetic look.
"I'm sorry. If I hear anything I'll let you know. Try to get some rest." With that, he leaves you alone and sobs wrack your body.
Two hours later, the doctor is back with an unsure expression.
"There's someone here to see you. I'm not sure it's the best id-" he tries but you cut him off.
"Send them in." Your memory may be shot but your stubbornness is still intact.
He nods and a few minutes later the man from the boat walks in. He's wringing his hands together as he shifts back and forth on his feet and your heart twinges when you take in his appearance.
It's clear that he hasn't slept much and you question whether it's because of you. Deep down you know it is.
You shoot up in bed and he gives a timid smile.
"Hi." He whispers and you gesture to the stiff seat beside you.
"Hi."
He sits down and you're engulfed in that spicy vanilla cologne again. It washes over you in soothing waves and for the first time since you arrived, you feel at ease.
"So you don't remember me?" He asks and you shake your head slowly.
"No." You answer and his face drops before you continue. "I can't place who you are, but I know that you matter to me."
He looks up with hopeful eyes and that familiar swirling sensation erupts in your stomach again.
"I know your eyes and your cologne. It doesn't make sense, but I know you chew spearmint gum and like when I scratch your head. It's like my body remembers but my mind can't catch up."
He nods his head and you resist the urge to grab his hand. It's so bizarre for him. He's looking directly at the woman who holds his heart, yet she doesn't know him from Adam. He holds all these memories with you that you no longer share, and he can't quite wrap his head around the whole idea.
How is he supposed to approach this situation? There's no handbook for what to do when the love of your life doesn't know who you are anymore, he checked. He wants to be here for you however he can, but that's hard when being in your vicinity reminds him of everything that has happened.
How do you act around a person that you love with your entire being, and also grieved? He went to your funeral, he cried into a pillow for months, and he talked to the open sky about you when he believed you had been ripped away from him. How do you move forward after that?
He has no idea what your future looks like and it paralyzes him with fear.
"I'm sorry. The doctors say it's a wall my brain put up to block out the trauma. They said that when my nervous system feels safe again it should all come back, but they don't know when that'll be."
You see his Adam's apple bob up and down and it's weird to know what it feels like against your lips while having no recollection of ever placing them there.
"You don't need to feel sorry. You've been through hell, it makes sense that your mind would suppress it."
His voice shoots straight through you and you want nothing more than for him to keep talking. Just as you expected, his presence makes you feel safe.
"All these official assholes keep harassing me and trying to jog my memory. I haven't admitted it out loud, but I don't want to remember. Why would I?"
You see his face drop and immediately recognize the implication behind your words.
"Fuck, no. I didn't mean it like that. I want to remember my life more than anything, I just don't want to remember what happened over there." You elaborate and you can see this is his personal brand of hell.
"That's understandable. Can't really blame you there. What do you remember?"
You sigh and lean back, trying to run through it in your brain.
"I know that I'm A SEAL sniper. I know my name and what my favorite food is. It's just the past year that's gone."
He nods again, digesting the information when you perk up.
"Have they told you anything about what happened? They're keeping me in the dark. A man let it slip that some of my team was killed but that's all I know."
You know that he has information, it's written on his face. You realize that his expressions always convey what's on his mind and it makes you smile. You wonder if everyone can read him like an open book, or if it's something special between the two of you.
Is he this vulnerable all the time or is it reserved just for you? He looks conflicted like he's trying to decide how much to admit to, or if he should play dumb. You figure the two of you must be extremely close because you clock the moment he realizes you'll catch him if he lies.
"Come on, I won't tell anyone." You try, batting your eyelashes. He laughs lightly and your eyebrows shoot up.
"You don't know who I am yet you still know exactly how to get what you want."
You can tell he's about to cave and stick your lower lip out to seal the deal. He groans and leans back, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Fine, but you don't tell anyone that I told you." He says firmly and you make a zipping motion across your mouth.
"You've been MIA for three months, and presumed dead. Your entire team except for one has been confirmed KIA. You were declared dead last week and Saturday was your funeral." He informs you gently, and the new knowledge hits you like a ton of bricks.
"Oh."
He looks at you so softly and it makes you want to cry.
"I can go if you want. I know this is a lot."
Your head snaps up and your eyes are saucers as you stare at him.
"No! No, please don't go. You're the only one that hasn't been grilling me for information and I- I feel safe with you." You plead and his hand wraps around yours with such ease that you know it's something he does a lot. His fingers slide between yours and your breath hitches at the way they fit together like puzzle pieces.
"Okay, okay. Take a deep breath. I won't leave you."
The next few days drag by as your memory continues to evade you and there's a revolving door of superiors and psychiatrists in your room. Jake can tell you're overwhelmed and does his best to help.
He's nothing short of an angel, bringing you your favorite snacks and familiar clothes. He even brought your toiletries so you can feel a little more at home in your own skin. The rest of the team hasn't been by yet, Jake told them it would probably make you feel worse to have more people that you can't remember show up.
He's steadfast in his promise to stay, only leaving to retrieve items from your home and eat. Your parents made a trip but you weren't keen on seeing them and sent them away.
Jake considers showing you pictures and telling you stories to try and jog your memory but decides it would be too much. Besides, he's intimately aware of the fact that if you remember him you'll remember everything.
As much as he loves you, he's willing to sacrifice himself to spare you the pure torture you're going to experience when that wall comes crashing down. It's bittersweet, and he wants to stave it off for as long as possible. Even if it's killing him in the process.
You've gotten more comfortable around him and it takes all his strength not to wrap you in his arms and shower you in kisses. He sees glimpses of the woman he loves but has to remind himself that he's just another person to you.
You've asked for details here and there, mostly simple things like his name and how you met. He tells you with a glimmer in his eyes and it makes your heart swell. It's so obvious how much love he has for you, and you hate that you can't just remember.
It feels like it's on the tip of your tongue, yet you just can't place it no matter how hard you try.
After three weeks, Jake starts to get concerned that he's been erased from your mind for good. It doesn't send him running the way it would have at one point though. Instead, he swears to himself that he'll earn your love again if he has to.
He simply refuses to let you go that easily, especially after everything the two of you have been through.
He jolts awake suddenly at the sound of your whimpers and his forehead creases as he watches your eyelids flutter as your eyes dart back and forth. He's been sleeping at your bedside ever since that first day and you haven't had a single dream in that time.
Worry consumes him when your forehead starts to bead with sweat and your limbs start to jerk. It's the middle of the night, somewhere around three am if he had to guess. He would look at the clock, but he's afraid to take his eyes off you for even a second.
Suddenly, your eyes fly open and you let out a short scream. You look around panicked as you try to place where you are and your lungs gasp for air. It takes a second for the sterile smell of the hospital to burn your nostrils, but when it does the past three weeks come rushing back.
Your chest heaves and you feel like you're going to be sick until that sweet scent that you love so much hits you. Jake watches with wide eyes, not wanting to startle you further and his heart feels like it's about to give out.
He hears your quiet voice ring out into the dark and if he wasn't sitting down, he would have collapsed.
"Hangman?"

CAMP NANO DAY 5
[First] [Previous] [Next] [AO3]
=============‹«⟨·•★•·⟩»›=============
Phantom gestured her and Jason closer as he stood up from his spot midair. "First things first, I need to ask you both a few clarifying questions, and please answer as truthfully as possible without risking your alternate identities, I'm trying to figure out your species, not your names," he said, voice echoing slightly just like the last time she'd heard him.
"I thought you already knew what we were," she snarked before she could think better about it, her mask's modulator making her voice sound darker and more raspy while she ditched most of her natural Bowery accent, instead speaking with an accent more reminiscent of Bristol natives than anything else. She'd blame her friendship with Tim for that, but honestly, she got a kick out of learning and mimicking all the various Gotham accents, then throwing them at her victims after she got the drop on them.
Phantom just shook his head with a small smile. "I'm only about ninety-seven percent sure I'm correct about the two of you, which is a lot, but I want to be at least ninety-nine percent sure before we go any further. This is for both your safety and for my reputation. It can be really dangerous to treat one being like someone from a species not their own, dangerous for everyone involved, and it doesn't reflect well on me if I don't do my due diligence in making sure I'm teaching you the things that will actually help you grow and improve as the beings and entities you are. It also doesn't reflect well on the beings that taught me if I don't do my due diligence, and I really respect my tutors, and I really respect you guys, so I'm going to do my due diligence. Does that make sense?"
She and Jason shared a quick look, exchanging rapid quick signs just out of Phantom's view, before Jay responded. "Yes, that seems acceptable. Who would you like to question first?"
Steph had to admit, every time she heard Jay's Condor voice, she snickered slightly in her head. He'd very carefully designed Condor's vocal patterns and responses, as well as the voice modulator that he'd installed in his own mask, so that Condor was as audibly distinct from Jason's normal speech as possible without sounding outlandish, but hearing such highbrow vocabulary from Jason outside of dramatic readings of his favorite books would never not be funny to her. She did applaud his use of vocal layering technology, though, the effect was intense.
"I figured I'd start with Starling, if you don't mind?"
=============‹«⟨·•★•·⟩»›=============
"— and then he started asking his questions. Have I ever gotten a really horrible migraine that started dying down after I screamed? Have I ever screamed while working on a case and suddenly all the information clicked together? Have I ever met someone whose vibes just did not mesh with what I was expecting? Stuff like that. After a bunch of questions along that vein, Phantom just nodded thoughtfully before grinning and saying, I kid you not, "Congratulations, it's a banshee!" The kid is hilarious, I'm telling you," she finished with a grin.
Jay nodded and added his own two cents. "He then turned to me and started a similar Q&A, though the questions were very different. Have I ever died and mysteriously come back to life? Has my relationship with fire been different since I came back to life? Different how? Have I ever felt the urge to vocalize my emotions, and if so, did anyone within hearing range start to exhibit similar emotions? He concluded that with a triumphant smile and declared me a phoenix."
They were all sitting around the debrief table in the Batcave after everyone had returned for the night. B had started the nightly debrief like always, starting with Dick and working his way down the ages, but tonight he'd saved hers and Jason's reports for last. While her brain was feeling more than a little stuffed full with everything she'd learned by the rooftop shrine, both about herself and about Jason, she couldn't deny she was excited to share it all with her family, her clan.
Tim let out a small noise before leaning forward to rest his arms on the table. He looked back and forth between her and Jay for a quick moment before settling his gaze on their older brother. "Phoenixes in mythology are said to be immortal birds made of fire, is that true? How does that affect you?"
Jay nodded with a smirk. "Oh, that's actually kinda cool, so phoenixes have regular burning days that basically reset them back to their prime. Each Phoenix has a different burning day interval, some have five year intervals while others have ten, twelve, or even fifteen year intervals, but until they have their first burning day after their initial revival, most orphan phoenixes actually think they're something else, like maybe a hell hound, or even the apparently notorious phoenix mimics known simply as firebirds. If a phoenix gets injured severely enough between burning days, they can force an early burning day, though apparently those are more intense and take longer to physically recover from than the regular burning days. Any injuries, up to and including scars, that a phoenix acquires between burning days will be gone after the next burning day, too, so that's pretty awesome, too."
"Okay wait," Duke said, waving a hand slightly. "Hold on. One of the questions Phantom asked you was about your relationship with fire, could you explain more about that, please?"
Steph and Jay shared grins. "Fire doesn't burn me anymore. I technically have pyrokinesis, and eventually I'll be able to pull my little "appearing out of a fireball" shtick for real," he said.
"Yeah, and he can express and share his emotions through specific sounds that apparently sound like bird songs and calls. Apparently it's a key form of communication for phoenixes, and it can be damaging to their mental health to go for too long without doing so, so Phantom said to let everyone know to expect some random fluctuations in emotions while Jay gets used to actually following his instinctual need to connect with us in that way," Steph added, bumping shoulders with Jay in a show of support.
B nodded in thought before gazing knowingly at the two of them. "I notice a lot of emphasis has been placed on Jason's phoenix status, but what about your banshee status, Stephanie? What can you tell us about that?"
She grinned as Jason trilled in excitement. "Oh, can I explain this bit?" He asked her, and she waved him on. "Turns out a lot of myths and folklore about the fae, the Seelie and Unseelie courts, are wildly out of date. There's been peace between both courts for centuries now, their governing systems are both complex and extremely easy to understand, and they have agreements on how to deal with humans and others who have offended them in one way or another. Banshees, who have pretty much always been associated with the Unseelie court, are basically fae PIs. They have an instinctual knowledge of the beings and entities around them and can tell if someone is human or not based on their aura, or vibes as Phantom put it. They use their screams to magically obtain information on a person of interest, usually someone who's been declared wanted for questioning by one of the fae courts but sometimes it's someone wanted by human courts, from beyond the veil of morality, which they can then use to either track the person of interest down or to officially convict them."
"I thought a banshee's scream signaled someone's eminent death," Dick mused.
Steph shook her head. "In olden times, sure, but the death penalty isn't exactly used much anymore, so a banshee's scream doesn't immediately mean death. I don't even have to scream in front of the person I'm screaming about, I just have to know some kind of basic information about them. I also don't have to scream when I first get the urge to, I can hold it in so I can get to a more appropriate place to let it out." She shrugged. "Apparently, though, the longer I choke it back, the more painful it will become, until I just have to scream, which I'm sure none of us want to test too thoroughly."
Babs cringed and shook her head. "Definitely not, that sounds extremely unpleasant and almost entirely impractical. We'll have to do some testing for future reference, but not to the point you potentially injure yourself," the redhead said before changing the topic. "So are we in agreement? We're going to continue these tutoring sessions with Phantom?"
Steph watched B as he looked at each of them in turn, getting various forms of confirmation from them all, before turning back to Babs. "Yes, I think we will. Steph, Jaylad, if Phantom gave either of you homework, I ask that you keep up with it. Just one session with him has settled the two of you in a way I hadn't noticed you weren't until you got back. I don't want that progress lost, and I'm sure neither of you do, either."
She looked at Jason, who was looking at her, and she knew Bruce was more right than he could possibly know.
=============‹«⟨·•★•·⟩»›=============
Jazz looked up from her textbook when she felt Danny phase into their apartment at almost midnight. He popped into view with a beaming smile that caused some of the tension in her shoulders to relax. "I take it things went well?" Jazz asked as she set her pencil down and turned her whole attention to her little brother.
"Did it ever! Oh my ghost, Jazz, despite not having had his first burning day since reviving, Condor is already really in tune with his instincts. He's been struggling with explaining them to the others, he didn't have the vocabulary to explain them at the time, but he soaked up everything I taught him like a sponge! He took to vocalized emotional expression like a fish to water, and has already been dabbling with his pyrokinesis on his own!" Danny exclaimed, running a hand through his hair with a slightly hysterical laugh. "And Starling, Jazz, she's already had the five initial screams all banshees go through. She's been using her screams unintentionally for the past six months without even realizing it, she honestly thought she'd just been screaming in frustration and then having lightbulb moments of everything clicking together. Pandora said most banshees struggle with assimilating the information they gain from their screams that quickly until they've been screaming for years, but Starling's been doing it instinctually for months without problem!" Suddenly, he clenched his hair in both hands and tugged slightly. "Gah , I can't believe they've been left floundering like this for so long! Just from this first meeting, I can see the potential in all of them. If they're this good at what they do without knowing what they are and what they can do, I can't even begin to imagine how much more effective they'll be with that knowledge. But the kicker is, they could have been that good from the start if only they'd known sooner!"
"Hey," Jazz said as she got up and walked over to her little brother, gently grabbing his hands and working them free from his hair. "It'll be okay. They have you in their corner now. Sure, they should have known sooner, and it really sucks that they didn't, but they do now. Can you imagine how much worse it'd be if they never knew? I can, and honestly, it's kind of scary. You're doing the right thing, baby brother. Don't ever forget that, okay?"
Danny drew her into a tight hug. "Thank you for being here, for helping me keep my head on straight," he said into her shoulder.
Jazz smiled sadly into his hair. "I'll always be here for you, Danny. You don't need to worry about that," she replied as she tightened the hug. No matter what happens, I will never leave you, she thought fiercely.

FIRST STEPH POV! AND FIRST JAZZ POV! PLUS LORE! ✧\(>o<)ノ✧ I hope y'all enjoyed lol I had a lot of fun with this one. I legit couldn't wait to write it and had to orally take notes via audio recording while I was driving around running errands ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ good news is I now have concrete plans for chapter three!
I would also like to say that my takes on all beings, creatures, and entities based on real myths and folklore are exactly that, my takes. I have cherry picked myths, folklore, and canon for the bits and pieces I find cool or interesting, and threw out the rest. If that offends you in any way, I apologize but respectfully ask that you just don't continue to read this series. I write primarily for mine and my mother's enjoyment, and what we enjoy is taking apart and piecing together things that realistically don't go together. I understand that my writing isn't for everyone, but I sincerely enjoy reading the comments of those who also enjoy my writing.
Also, I've finally figured out how to do the "keep reading" thing on mobile! Let me know if you guys like it or not, and if I should keep doing it or not, please? 乁| ・ 〰 ・ |ㄏ
Also also, I've decided that, since I'm modding the Patrol Partners event as well as doing Camp NaNoWriMo this month, I'm taking Sundays off from writing. I'll post fics on AO3 that haven't been posted yet, I'll answer replies, asks, and DMs, but I won't be doing any writing on Sundays. Therefore, there's no day 2 fic that y'all missed, I just didn't write one (^~^;)ゞ (I'm going to post this at the end of my author's note tomorrow as well so more of my readers see it, but I wanted to put it here now while I'm thinking about it)

“Where the hell am I?” Robert Floyd had no idea where the hell he was. One minute he was in the cockpit, sitting behind Phoenix like he had done for years, and then? He was in a field somewhere in the middle of nowhere. His head hurt, a lot. But when he came to with a mouth full of dirt he knew something had to be wrong. Very wrong.
“Oi.” Jake Seresin loved golden hour. It was his favorite time of the day. When the sun would kiss the horizon and leave a beautiful golden hume across the fields that seemed never ending. Rolling plains of green lush fields that were all his, all yours. Your own silence of paradise.
“Hotshot!” Jake snapped at the Boxer whose hair stuck up along his spine. His bark was just that, all bark and no bite. “I’m gonna get your vocal cords clipped if you don’t cut it out man.” It’s an empty threat that the Boxer dog has heard a billion times before—and it always seems to fall on deaf ears. Hotshot kept barking in the direction of where he’d sensed danger looming. “Dammit—!”
Jake stood from where he was crouching to fix the broken wire on the fence that bordered what he could only assume was another property. Someone else’s slice of heaven. He hadn’t ever seen what was beyond the rolling hills, but he didn’t care all that much. He already had everything he ever needed and more.
“Hello!? Is anyone here!?”
“Huh?” Jake frowned when he saw it, a figure dragging a parachute across the field in his direction. “Ain’t no way—“ Jake shook his head and rubbed at his eyes with the back of his hand. He pocketed the gloves he’d been wearing and took a few cautionary steps closer to the figure that grew closer and closer. Until he knew for sure who he was seeing:
“Floyd?” It comes out a little bit questionable and albeit hesitant because Jake isn’t sure why exactly he was seeing Bob on his property. “Bob? Is that you?” He calls out again. “Oh fuckk—this can’t be good.” Jake says that last part to himself, he knows that the only people here are already dead or figments of his imagination.
Bob freezes in his tracks, it had been a few years since he’d heard that unforgettable voice. It’s Jake, it’s Hangman. Bob can only just make out the blonde hair and the stupidly symmetrical physique, but regardless of the distance he knows it’s Jake Seresin. Oh crap. He’d fallen asleep before training hadn’t he? He was asleep in the red room right this very second, dreaming of a friend he lost not too many years back.
“Hangman! Oh my god! What are you doing here?” Bob asks all the while he’s back on track, walking towards Jake as he makes his way over. Hotshot is already a mile ahead and at Bob's feet in no time, wagging his tail and licking Bob's hand. A welcome fit for an old friend. “Hey buddy, hi!”
Like Jake said, all bark, no bite.
“Uh, I—“ Jake knows he should probably approach this conversation carefully. If Bobs here then there’s only one real explanation as to why. He’s dead. “I live here.” Jake rubs at the back of his head as he assesses Bob's reaction. There’s hardly a flinch. “This is my home man, and you’re a long way from yours.” It doesn’t make sense, why was Robert Floyd in Jake's own personal afterlife? He didn’t understand the lore as well as you but even this was making his brain itch. Surely you’d know why?
“What do you mean you live here?” Jake can see the confusion all over Bob's face when he finally does reply. He can also see the blood creeping out of his nose. Something had gone wrong, terribly wrong. “I just ejected, my chute got tangled—“ Jakes standing there with his arms crossed just waiting for the lightbulb to turn on. Bobs a smart guy, he should be able to connect the dots. “Hang on, you died.” Bob's frowning while he looks up at Jake once again. “You died years ago. Does that mean?”
“Dead doesn’t mean done Bob.” Jake just smiles, he still wasn’t sure why Bob was here or what happened to bring Bob here, but he was thankful to see an old friend. “You might of—“ Jake doesn’t get to finish his sentence before Bob is cutting him off. Nope. Nope this can’t be happening. Bobs not dead. He’s just asleep.
“I need to get back.” Bob just shakes his head in disbelief. “I uh—I’m dreaming, yeah.” It’s his way of processing what’s happening. “I’m dreaming, yeah, yeah no I fell asleep in the rec room didn’t I?” There’s a silence that lingers in the field while Jake just looks at his old colleague, god he didn’t look a day older than the last time Jake saw the WSO.
“Sure pal.” Jake just sighs while the two men hug for what feels like the first time in a lifetime. He can feel how fast Bob's heart is racing. “Why don’t you come up to the house? I’ll fix you something to drink.” It’s the only thing Jake can think of to help settle the clearly distressed soul. Bob nods, he doesn’t know what else to do. He’s tried to wake up a few times now but damn this dream really feels real.
“Jake, is this real?” Bob nearly sobs while the two men walk back up to Jake's truck. He’d driven up to the border fence a little while ago. “Am I dead?” Jake contemplates how to handle this situation, but he settles on a little humour to take the edge off. He always did love fucking with Bob.
“As a doorknob dude.” Jake chuckles softly all the while Bob just stands there in disbelief. “You probably hit the ground hard too.'' Jake can see the colour draining from Bob's face as he takes his helmet off in the passage's seat. It’s then he sees the blood pouring out of Bob's ears. Damn. The ground must have been really hard. Jake remembers that feeling all too well. The thud, the snow. But for Bob it must have been so much worse.
“Oh god.”
***~***~***~***~***~***~***~**
“Honey!” You heard Jake's boots against the hardwood floor before you saw him. He’s got that all too familiar walk that lets you know it’s him. Not that it would ever be anyone else, but right now it did sound as if there were a few extra footsteps present. “You around?”
“I’m in the kitchen with Ellie!” You cooed back. Bouncing softly while you waited for your tea to steep. “She’s just gone down for a—“ Before you could even say that your daughter had just fallen asleep against your chest in her wrap, you were rendered speechless by the scared silhouette behind your husband. “Bob?”
“Hollywood?” Bob was in more shock than you were. “Oh okay yeah now I’m definitely dreaming.” He steps past Jake and into the kitchen to give you a hug that was all too welcomed. You send your husband a frown of concern over the WSO’s shoulder and Jake confirms what you think you already know.
Robert Floyd was dead. He’d recently died or was dying as you spoke and he was in denial about it.
“Uh—Bob honey I’d say it’s good to see you but I don’t think you belong here.” You cooed with a soft expression plastered across your face. As much as you loved seeing an old friend you knew for certain that if Bob was dead he needed to get to his own forever home before he got stuck between the land of the living and the land of the dead. “What happened? What’s the last thing you remember?”
“I’ll get you a drink man.” Jake adds all the while you and Bob sit down at the dining table in the kitchen. He finishes making you your cup of tea while he listens to Bob explain the last thing he remembered before he was waking up in the middle of Jake's back paddock.
“It was just a simple training session.” Perhaps the denial was beginning to wear off, you could see how shaky Bob's hands were while he played with his cuticles and looked around the kitchen. “Something was wrong with our altitude gauge, Phoenix couldn’t keep the nose and before I knew it we were punching out.” It all happened so fast. “I pulled my chute.” Bob explained all the while his heart began to race as realisation set it. “But it wouldn’t untangle—“ Your heart just broke, Jakes too. He couldn’t imagine free falling from the sky like that—even though he kinda did. “I think I hit the ground before I could pull my secondary.”
“Bob, do you know where you are?” It was the softness in your voice and the love you held in your eyes that made Jake fall a little more in love with you. He did everyday. Not a day went by where he didn’t fall more in love with you. “Do you hear anything? See anyone?”
When you had died, all you could hear was Jake begging you to stay. The sunset was so beautiful and the homestead was so peaceful and nothing seemed to hurt, you just couldn’t stay. As much as it pained you to turn your back on the faded image of the love of your giving you CPR, you had to see what was inside the home you now shared with that very same man. He’d come racing up the driveway not a few months later.
“I think I’m in a hospital somewhere?” Bob could hear a beeping sound, like a heart monitor reading his pulse. “I don’t remember it hurting, dying that is.” Bob let his chin fall as Jake handed him a glass of water, remembering that the weapons system office didn’t drink in life so he probably wouldn’t in death. “We all missed you, both of you, so much.” It was a beautiful thing to hear, even after all this time. You knew Jake missed his friends and hoped they understood why he did what he did. He had to be with you. If he couldn’t in life then death would have to do.
“For what it’s worth?” You looked to your husband with an all knowing smile before you rubbed your thumb on Bob's hand to sooth his worried soul. “We know, but we’ve been happy this whole time.”
“I understand why you both did it, you know.” Bob added as he sniffed. “Rooster was so mad for so long but I always understood.” It made Jake's heart sink into his stomach, but hopefully he’d get the chance to say he was sorry one day. “Am I really dead?”
“I’m sorry Bob.” You didn’t know what else to say. “If you wanna come into my office with me I can probably help you figure out where you’re supposed to go from here?” You offered. “I’m not even really sure why you’re here and as much as I’ve really enjoyed getting to see you again, but, you can’t stay.”
“Where do I go then?” Bob asked softly and all the more confused. “I don’t know what I’m doing?”
“What’s your perfect world man?” Jake asked as he leaned back on the kitchen countertop. He had his, you were all Jake Seresin ever needed. “Your idea of heaven? Your forever home?” Your little girl was his forever dream. “Surely there’s something—“
Robert Floyd was silent for a moment, he thought about where he’d want to spend the rest of his forever life.
“I had this old drum set when I was a teenager.” You caught the glint in Bob's eye, he could hear the music playing. “My dad owned this old instrument shop that had pretty much everything you ever needed in it, drums, electric guitars, pianos, even clarinets.”
“If that’s where you wanna go Bob then I’m sure that’s where you’ll end up once you step outside our door.” You could see the gears turning in your husband's mind, he was trying to figure out why Bob was even here. It was so random, so out of the blue. Were all his friends going to come through one at a time? Was this how things worked? Did they all miss him so much they couldn’t pass on without saying goodbye?
“I’m not ready to go yet.” It was as genuine as ever. Bob was just scared, he didn’t know how to feel or what to say. All he knew was that he just needed a minute to figure out if this was real or if he’d just fallen asleep in the rec room. “Could I maybe just sit here for a while?”
“Yeah Bob.” Oh how you’d missed your friends, the people who cared the most. “Yeah, take all the time you need.”
“You can go, if you want—“ It was the softest of voices, the most calming of lullabies. Bob could hear her right in his ear. “I’m right here, you aren’t alone, so if you need to go, you go, okay?” Phoenix cried as Bob turned around in his chair to look over his shoulder. He saw the image clear as day. He was in a hospital room being kept alive by machines and tubes.
“Who is it?” You asked as Bob saw his final moments play out right before him. He never wanted that, to end up on life support. Bob had always told the people who mattered most to him to pull the plug if he ever got to that point. Phoenix must have listened.
“It’s okay, you go, say hi to Hangman and Hollywood for me.”
“Nix—“ Bob smiled at the thought of his front seater. He hoped wherever his heaven was that hers wouldn’t be far away. “She says to say hi.”
It felt all too real when you looked over to your husband. These were his people more so than they ever were yours. He’d known them for years and left them all without saying goodbye. Now was his chance.
“I really did miss you Bob.” Jake sighed as he walked across the kitchen with heavy steps. His hand came to rest on the WSO’s shoulder, bringing a comfort Bob didn’t know he’d missed so much. Jake loved you so much, that was clear to everyone who knew him once he lost you. For some it was easier to accept than others. Bob only hoped that if Rooster got a chance to stop by on his journey into the forever that he wouldn’t hold his grudge. “But I couldn’t say, every breath I took since she left felt like such a waste on me.”
Bob looked at you, and then looked back up at Jake. The blood from his ears had begun to fade. There was no more pain. Bob was simply Bob. And he could hear the drums as clear as day just outside the front door. It was his time to go.
“I’m just glad that you guys got your happily ever after.” Bob chuckled to himself. “Even if it was in death.”

Hug prompts
[ OH MY GOD ] for a hug in response to one muse learning that the other’s still alive.
Bob x pilot!reader where a mission goes a little wrong and someone has to eject out of their plane while the other listens on comms.
This idea reminds me so much of the last few chapters of antidotes and poisons…BUT we must stay focused!!

Bob Floyd x pilot!wife!reader
Bob was a reserved person. Everyone was aware of it. Having trained as a WSO his entire piloting career, he had learned not to overstate. Especially when it came down to his personal life.
He was serving in Lemoore when he got the call from Admiral Cyclone to come back to Top gun. What was more of a surprise was when he found out that you had been ordered to do the same that night.
Not many people knew about your relationship, both of you weren’t in contact with a lot of your fellow graduates from Top Gun but you knew of a few. Some of the names being: Natasha “Phoenix” Trace, Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw and Mickey “Fanboy” Garcia. They were one of the best being called back. You met all of them in your first day at the Hard Deck. Sat next to Bob as you both quietly sipped on your drinks.
This mission was not going to be an ordinary one.
Turns out it wasn’t an ordinary one. Top gun had called back 14 of its best graduates for a uranium transplant mission. Even Pete “Maverick” Mitchell was called back to train all of you for this.
It was the second week of training that was the most difficult. G-LOC was a terrifying experience for any aviator, especially when death was around the corner.
You sat in the radio room. The rest of the teams dispersed around the room as you all listened to the exercise play out. Phoenix, Bob and Coyote were up for the exercise. Coffin corner, as Mav had called it, was meant to be the extreme hill climb.
So far, no one had made out of it the same. It wasn’t looking any good for your husband that was in the air either.
“bird strike!”
You heard his frantic voice over the radio, leaning forward in the tiny stool, fingers rotating your wedding bad anxiously. The cackling only got louder and all you could hear was your heart pumping through your brain and Mav screaming;
“EJECT EJECT EJECT”
Before you could register anything else, you were on your feet and running to the tarmac. Praying that they were okay.
He landed a couple minuets later, two air ambulances had passed by in that time you were pacing back and forth.
“They’ve taken them to the hospital, they don’t know what is going to happen but they are most likely to be kept overnight.” Maverick greeted you with a small tight lipped smile, a sign of reassurance if anything.
“I can give you the address, if you’d like?” He questioned tentatively, not knowing the depth of your and Bob’s relationship but the fact that you two were close.
“That would be great, captain.”
His eyes landed on the wedding band in your grasp and he was able to put two and two together, handing you the address immediately. But before he could say anything about the situation you were taking off in the direction of your car.
Entering the hospital in a short of breath, you reached the reception desk, handing them the names of your husband and friend.
“May I ask your relationship to the patient?”
“I’m his wife. And Ph-Natasha’s friend.” You clarified.
“Thank you,” she affirmed before typing away on her computer, “they are in room 421, 2nd floor.”
“Thank you so much.”
The elevator took too long for your liking as you shifted on one door to the other. It was then you took notice of the amount of stares you were being give and realised you were still in your flight suit. Your badge and gear still attached. You gave the old lady next to you a small smile as she scrunched her nose the smell of sweat that you were giving off in the stuffy elevator.
You let out a thankful breath as the doors to the second floor opened, running through the corridor to look for their room.
418…419…420…421. Stopping in your tracks, you stood outside his room. The small window giving you a peek of him being examined by a doctor. A wave of fresh tears rolled down your cheeks as you noticed the bandaged and scratches on him.
Reluctantly you opened the door, both men looking in the direction of your intrusion.
“Hello…” you began, stumbling into the room.
“You must be Mrs. Floyd. We were just talking about you.”
“Oh, uhh, is it alright if I come in?” You asked the bearded man. He gave you a reassuring smile before taking a step back, motioning to Bob;
“He is all yours, Ma’am.”
You chuckled, stepping away from the was you let the man take his leave. You and Bob were the only ones left in the room. The only noise that came was from the AC that was mounted on the wall, blowing cold air in the small room causing you to shiver.
You slowly made your way towards him, careful not to trip in your worry. His eyes were glossy as you neared him, glasses long forgotten about on the bedside table as he opened his arms to let you in. He took notice of your tear stained face, he felt guilty about causing you pain, he always did even when it wasn’t his fault.
You clutched onto him for dear life, mindful of avoiding any bandaged areas to not cause him further pain. He tucked your head into his neck, rubbing your back up and down as your sniffles became quiet sobs.
“Oh my god..”
“Shhh, it’s okay, baby. I’m here.”
“I- I thought..you..” you hiccuped, struggling to let out the words but he caught on. Carefully cradling you in his arms as he kissed the side of your head gently.
“I know baby. I’m okay, I’m with you here. You didn’t have to come all the way here, I was going to call you.”
You pulled back from him slightly, not letting go of his sides. Your brows were scrunched in confusion as you looked up at your husband.
“What do you mean you were going to call? In sickness and in health, do you not remember?”
His heart skipped a beat at the reminder of your vows. One he had taken all those years ago, of course he remembers them. But you were in the middle of training and it would have caused suspicion between the squad that you left immediately after.
Regardless, he smiled lovingly at you. Kissing your brows to smooth out the dents of confusion.
“Of course I remember. But…”
Nah uh, no buts. You are okay, that’s all that matters.” You kissed his jaw gently, cupping his cheeks before moving to his lips. They were chapped and rough but regardless you kissed him.
You heart skipped multiple bears in that moment, fireworks blasting their way into your stomach as you kissed him. It never felt tedious to kiss him, he always managed to make it feel like the first time. Causing you to act like a giddy teenager.
You pulled away, resting your forehead against his as you let out a shaky breath.
“Please don’t die on me, okay?”
“As long as you promise to do the same.” He raised his hand to his chest, extending his pinky finger towards you, encouraging you to take it.
You chuckled through your tears, wrapping your pinky finger around his as he shook it up and down before leaning in to kiss you again.

Because, I’m falling for you
This is a mini part for the I see myself with you universe. Let me know what you think about it.
Summary: Jake wants to take you out for a date, but you don’t make it that easy for him. [(1.2k) cursing]

"Where the hell did he get my address? I'm sure I never told Jake where I lived."
Allison sat across from you, biting her lower lip. "Uhm, I, I guess…Javy knows now."
"Javy? Jake's friend from the Navy Javy? How the hell does he know?"
Leaning your elbows on top of the table, you took a deep breath. The bouquet of roses mocking you and the words on the small card burned into your brain.
Let's start over - please? Jake
“We, uh, well I met Javy at the bar on their day off. We talked a bit and you know how I get when I’m tipsy. He told me Jake misses you and I told him his buddy should get his ass into gear and make amends.”
Rolling your eyes, you sent an annoyed look towards her. “Sometimes I wonder why I still keep you around.”
“Because you love me and without me you’d never get with the hot cowboy.” Grinning, Allison held up the card with her pointer and middle finger. You knew she had also seen the way Jake and you had been comfortable with while you had been in Texas. And she knew the way he acted before you left and back at that bar in San Diego had hurt you. “He’s  going to come crawling to you if you don’t get back to him soon.”
“Good for me, he needs to work for it.”
Tumblr media
“What did she say?” Javy asked a few days later when they sat together at their house on base. They weren’t just friends graduating Top Gun with a one-two before Phoenix, but bunking together back in Lemoore. Jake was still being his usual cocky persona on base and while flying but he tried to reign it in when he was around others.
With a sigh, the blonde let his body drop onto the dining chair in the large kitchen. “She sent the flowers back to base. With the card. Can you believe that?”
“I, well, aren’t women usually all about gifts and roses?”
“Not her, it seems.”
Pulling out the chair next to his friend and fellow aviator, Javy leaned his elbow onto the table, his fingers tapping his chin thoughtfully. “Maybe there’s another way to win her back. Allison said something about a pet rescue organization working with veterans.”
Looking closely at his friend, Jake felt the cocks in his head turning at full speed. He knew that you had been great with animals, of course he had seen you with those on the ranch back in Texas, but he didn't know you had a job with an organization, especially one working with military personnel.
"I'll be calling Ally, she'll know the name." His friend grinned, slapping the tabletop, he jumped up from his seat and rummaged through his jacket.
"You got her number? I thought she hated your guts as well."
Pursing his lips, Javy knew he couldn't lie to his friend. Jake could smell it miles away, so by far the Texan was the better liar - he had the better poker face. "Ah, well, you see. You've been moping even before we graduated and that one night you didn't come to the bar off base, she was there with a few other friends. Told me the same about your Juliet, Romeo. Y/N’s been moping around but doesn’t want to show it.”
"Great, gossiping like old ladies. Anything else I should know? A secret engagement with her?"
Opening his mouth, the pilot regarded his long time friend, trying to come up with a witty comeback, yet he saw the look Jake was sending his way. "No."
"Great, now at least I can try to think about how I'll win her back."
"Well, Valentine's coming up, maybe you could do it then and we can arrange something to do with that organization." He had no idea what they would do, but trying to win back your girl on Valentine's day would already be a perfect setting
Tumblr media
Jake had tried three more times to get you to talk to him, but each time you avoided him, sending the presents he got you back to base. In the end he let out a defeated sigh and agreed to Javy's and Allison's plan.
They had talked it through, he would get to the shelter and take a few dogs and cats that were on the euthanasia list. He knew it wasn't easy for the shelters, but growing up on a farm his heart ached for the poor souls. There was no denying that he knew why you did it. Now he stood in front of the organization building outside of San Francisco, his truck loaded with the animals he took from the shelter.
Taking a deep breath Jake waited for you to come out, having flagged down one of your colleagues at the entrance.
"Don't fuck this up." He mumbled under his breath, brushing over the invisible wrinkles on his khakis.
"Y/N, come on. There's this hot military guy with new cases outside!"
You had listened to her gush about him, and with the couple miles to Lemoore it wasn't too outlandish for military personnel to come there, especially with the program they worked with. But you weren't prepared for the sight of the naval aviator you had been keeping away from for months.
"Y/N?" He moved away from his truck, the dogs inside barking and yapping as your coworker came over, giving them all the scratches they deserved. Jake had seen you turn back to the building and swiftly made his way over to you, his hand taking a hold of your arm. "Where are you going?"
Swallowing, you kept your eyes on the building, knowing if you turned to him you'd never say NO and with the way he behaved back in San Diego you really didn't want to be the one getting fooled.
"Why are you avoiding me?" How could you answer a question you weren't really sure you had an answer to. "Y/N, I'm sorry about the bar, hell I'm sorry about the thing back in Texas. Just, just tell me why?"
Taking a deep breath, you steeled yourself for your answer. "Because…Because I think I'm falling in love with you, okay? That's why I'm avoiding you. You've been an idiot and honestly I have no idea why you became such an asshole."
"I know, and if you give me the chance I'll explain it. Just one date and if you still hate me I'll leave you alone."
"One…" You turned around, one finger raised at the naval aviator, a broad grin in his face with his dimples on full display. "If you come acting like Hangman and not Jake, I'll never want to see you again."
"Fuck no, I'll not fuck it up, I swear." He was ready to pull you closer, but one look at your face told him you'd have none of it. Running his hand through his hair, Jake turned back to the truck. First they'd get the animals settled and then he'd think on the date, his last chance to really win you back.

Finding Forever
_an epilogue will follow this one

Mystic Falls, Fell's Church Graveyard
"De cineribus ad corpus eduxi te nunc!" Bonnie waved up her hands to the circle. A zillion magical particles surged like a whirlwind in the center. Like the phoenix bird, so did Elijah rose from the flames.
Tumblr media
He breathed in deep, looking at the witch in front of him confused.
"Hello," Bonnie muttered, pointing to the side of the circle, "uhm- here are some clothes"
Elijah picked up the clothes and swiftly put them on. And then, he felt suddenly sickly and fell on down on his knees. He held his head in his hands.
"Here. Have some of my blood" Bonnie offered the Original a small potion bottle. "You need it. It will help you clear the pain from a spell I made to clear some of your memories."
Elijah took the tiny bottle and downed the potent Bennett blood.

Elsewhere
Boarding House
"Did you hear this? Kai is back? JEREMY!" Damon said, focusing on hearing what is said below them.
Tumblr media
"What the Hell?" Elena turned around stunned.
Meanwhile, in the study, Jeremy dragged Kai in, holding the astrolabe. "You got to send me back."
"I'm half dead." Kai said breathing heavy.
Tumblr media
"I got to stop Bonnie" Jeremy shot at the witch.
"Even if I could do that, she made sure noone could break the timeline again. And the ancestors are behind her." Kai said.
"I can't believe this." Jeremy pushed Kai aside.
"Believe what you want. The Bennetts allowed it. They need Elijah. The four evil Gods of the Undetworld are let loose." Kai said.
"You're lying." Jeremy sifted angrily.
"Why do you think the Bennetts let me free?" Kai said.
*
In Fell's Church, Bonnie had to cut debriefing Elijah short.
"Craziness in Mystic Falls never stopped. I got to go. Your family still owns the Mansion - here is a phone with our numbers, as well as your sisters. Kol, too. Though I didn't tell them I'd bring you back. They would probably not agree. This was my call. I got to go. Later" Bonnie apologized for having to run.
Elijah straightened his sleeves and after a moment to himself made his way to the Mikaelson residence.
There, he pulled his phone out of the jeans back pocket. He inhaled sharply. He wasn't ready to face anyone just yet.
He inhaled and exhaled deeply once again, allowing his brain time to process all the emotions that hurled back in explosively, mixed in with the new memories, memories he had of his time spent with Elena in 1988.
Flashback
New York, 1988
Tumblr media
"What has you staring at me like there's no tomorrow?" Elijah said.
"It's just - you." Elena said.
"Care to elaborate" Elijah's lips curled a curious smile up.
"I love you. And I wish I can have forever with you." Elena said, sighing inwardly. She stood up and walked over to him. She took his face with her hands and kissed him deep and hard.
"Elijah" Elena muttered with a burning throat as she staggered in the room, breaking the Original's thoughts. She wanted so desperately to run into his arms, squeeze him tight, kiss him zealously. But - there was the cloud above them. The cloud of covertness. No matter that what she had done was absilutely unintentional on her part, she knew him all too well. He hated being lied to. Another breath shuddered through her, "Elijah - I"
Tumblr media
What was there to say. His quiet demeanour spoke louder than words.
She was guilty of erasing his memories of her, of them, everything that had happened between them from 1988. But like Bonnie had explained. The timeline was not to be shifted.
"I know what I said, but the message Bonnie left me that night was ademand. I had to do it." Elena said.
"Yes. She said so." Elijah said in his very distinctive low voice.
"It was the toughest decision I ever had to make. It killed me. I missed you. I missed us. My heart ached like crazy. And then Freya found a letter you wrote to me. It blew me away - because - the last time we saw one another was in Willoughby. And you left for New Orleans." Elena paused for a split second. She tilted her head, her heart thrumming warmly, citing part of it, "You had my heart spellbound the moment I have set my eyes on you."
Elijah's warm brown eyes glistened at the memory of the letter. And the night he wrote it. The night, he had let all of his feelings he had kept bottled up for such a long time loose. Or rather put them in order.
"Please, say something," Elena narrowed the gap between them, "Elijah?"
