Some 9-1-1 headcannons
Many people ask Chris, "who's that tall blonde guy who picks you up from school sometimes and smiles a whole lot?" Chris tells them, "That's Buck." As a matter of fact, this is not very helpful.
"What's Buck?" a senior teacher asks the group of young teachers whispering busily at lunch. The group of young teachers freeze. They look at each other. One of them mumbles, "a very tall deer."
"Who's Buck?" asks one of Christopher's classmates. "He's really handsome," another classmate giggles. Christopher rolls his eyes and decides to not be very helpful.
"That's Buck?" the new janitor exclaims. She has been hearing all about this tall blonde guy who smiles a whole lot and might also be a very tall deer (her hearing is not very good). Across the hallway, Buck almost slips on the wet floor. Catches himself. Catches the janitor's eye and smiles something sheepish. "Ah," the janitor sighs, realising. "That's Buck."
The senior teacher trips on the last stair. Someone catches her fall. "Are you okay?" asks this tall blonde guy with a lot of concern on his face. The senior teacher pats his arm, grateful. She asks his name and sees him leave with Christopher Diaz. She tells herself, "I need to tell the rest of them about Buck."
It takes her a minute.
(or: i am convinced that everyone at Chris' school is obsessed with Buck and I needed to write about it)

You think someone shouldn’t earn a living wage because of their job? You think a job isn’t a “real” job just because its skill set doesn’t require schooling to gain? Fine, you do it. You go wait tables. You go flip burgers. You go deliver pizza. You go drive a semi truck for 12 hours a day. You go clean up shit and piss and vomit every day. You deal with the stares, the cries that you aren’t doing hard work, that your job somehow makes you worth less, that your life is worth less. You go do those jobs, and you do them for nothing, you break your back for free doing jobs other people need you to do, and then you come back here and tell me that the people who do those jobs don’t deserve a paycheck they can actually live on. You don’t get to bitch about people wanting more pay unless you’re willing to do what they do for the same or less. You don’t get to tell people they aren’t working a “real” job unless you’d be willing to do it for free. You don’t get to treat people like they’re lesser than you unless you would want people to treat you like that while you worked their job.

Girl Meets the Forgotten is such an important episode because it shows the importance of custodians and food service workers! Lunch ladies and lunch men work so hard to make sure that we have hot, warm food to eat everyday and they are never given the appreciation they deserve. Custodians keep the schools clean and they are never given the appreciation they deserve. The next time you go to school, say thank you to your lunch lady. Say thank you to your janitor. Tell them Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays.
Lunch ladies and food service workers matter! Custodians and janitors matter! They are the unsung heroes of the public school system!

Vancouver, BC – Janitors at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre won their jobs back after a reconsideration panel at the British Columbia Labour Relations Board ruled in favour of the three cleaners. It has been over a year since the workers were unfairly terminated before being recalled back to work this month.
Among those who had been offered their job back is Crystal Moorman, who has worked at the mall for 4 years. “When Dexterra lost the contract at Sevenoaks, the new company did not offer me my job back. This was not fair, but the union stepped in and helped us fight for our jobs back.”
Last March 2021, janitors at the Morgaurd managed shopping centre unionized with SEIU Local 2 prior to a change in the company contracted to provide cleaning services. The janitors unionized as employees of Dexterra Group upon learning that the contract had been awarded to Everclean Facility Services.

Say no to the lures of youth and focus on the trappings of business, or else you will be eating your lunches with Jeff and Tony.
