Matchup Trade for @kanao-tsuyuri-art
╰┈➤ Thank you for doing Matchups at Sugutoad
Tumblr media
╰┈➤ Rengoku Kyojuro ‘If you put in your all, you'll stand your ground even in death’
Just for a clear thing, I had not picked this man for you due to the fact of how much you loved him. He was my top option for you when I was in the middle of reading your personality. On to the Headcanons!
The floor seemed to creak under your sandals. You, the new Hashira, had been given the rank of a Hashira. How could anyone seem to reuse an honour like that? Certainly not you. The paper had wrinkled up when you had received it, but the bold handwriting was clear. It had seem that you were recommended to be a Hashira by a man who went by Rengoku,
You knew of him, who didn’t? Well, unless they weren’t a demon slayer. He was known for his loud voice but there must have been more to him, right?  Upon meeting him, you thanked him endlessly. This man had changed your life, only because he thought you were an impressive fighter. For a time, he mentored you for a bit until the official role of a Hashira had been given to you.
He loves how optimistic you are. He grew up in a house that looked down at him, yet you found beauty in the smallest of things. It was truly a gift.
The two of you go to the library quite often and get scolded at. The chapters seem to never end with Rengoku but you seemed so fascinated by samurais. The amount of times you have been scolded by the librarian due to his loud voice is unbelievable. But upon seeing your disappointment of not being able to stay any louder, he felt bad. He really did try to lower his voice the next time he went to the library, he could feel the eyes of the librarian looking at him with perhaps a smile.
You are his best friend. No one seems to understand him really. All he is to them is a loud mouth. But you… you understood his burden and helped him carry them. You see the real version of him and he sees the truth of you. A person who hides away all their struggles for others surely needs someone. He will laugh with you and cry with you. What you feel, he feels too. And if you ever are in a state of wrong, he will guide you through it. He affirms you with words and food, food makes everyone happy! Especially doughnuts!
You both have such high energy! Never letting a day go to waste and always making sure to leave the house at least twice a day! Where it’s for small walks or hiking in the forest, he always seems to be making everything more fun than when the activity is done alone.
He doesn’t kinda like being a Hashira but a part of him longs to be a family man. To have a wife eating for him at home and kids running to hug him when he arrives.
His confession had to be special. A memory that could not be forgotten by you or him. It was a nice spring day, the sun wasn’t blazing down at you. The petals on the cherry blossom fell softly on your hair. The two of you sat down and ate and talked. That’s when he went quiet. Something did feel off, he was so loud seconds ago. That’s when he told you he liked you. You smiled at him and kissed him, it was soft and his lips were warm. No, they were sort of hot.. the feeling you get when you eat something spicy. But they were somehow sweet. But it made sense, he was after all eating your baked goods a while ago, the sugar still at the corner of his lips.
After dating for a while, he wanted the next step. He went to Tengen, he did have three wives after all so he must be a professional. But he didn’t listen to Tengen despite wanting to. His ideas were too flashy. Rengoku had to do something else. Despite not being a good baker, he tried. When you left for a mission, he stayed home and made cake. On top he had written a proposal. ‘Will You Marry Me?’ Tears stinged in your eyes as you saw that. You said yes. The wedding wasn’t that big, just a few relatives and friends. Mitsuri was your maid of honour, mainly since she wanted to be part of the wedding but also the happiness she felt for you.
The rays of the sun managed to sneak through the opening of your curtains. He was already awake. He sat in the kitchen, adjusting his clothes. It seemed he was going for a mission. Your two year old daughter sat across him, brown hair in two pigtails and red eyes attached to her cereal bowl. He kissed the two of you goodbye, his favourite girls. But no one had told you that would be your final kiss. What had seemed to be seconds after his departure, a black crow pecked at your window. A letter was attached to his foot. You were worried, your husband wasn’t back and now his crow was at your window. When you read the letter, you wished you could turn back time… you sobbed in your room, tears spilling out.
Rengoku was dead…

Shinbou with a very sleepy girlfriend like always sleepy
a/n: sorry for taking so long to do this rq, i had graduation stuff and then i got sick 😭😭 i did a hc kinda layout bc i thought it would fit this better! Again I do apologize for not being quicker with this request <3 (also i hope the gif i added works)
Tumblr media
Shinbou with a sleepy gf hcs
How you two met was probably not in the best of ways, considering you had fallen asleep in the middle of the woods and was brought to the butterfly mansion after a demon had tried to eat you
When you awoke and had learned of what happened, you had to explain to Shinbou that you just got super tired sometimes and just sleep wherever you are
Worried about this, she kept you at the butterfly mansion. Of course she didn't force you to stay, she just offered you to stay there while she tries to find a way to helpful with you sleepiness.
However, while trying to work with you on a possible solution, she began noticing that she might like you in a romantic way.
One night when you fell asleep while reading (or other activity that you enjoy doing), Shinbou had carried you to your bed and she noticed how pretty you looked in the dim lighting. How her heart slightly fluttered everytime she looked at you. She confessed her feelings that morning and thus your official realtionship began!
While you might have the privilege of seeing Shinobu in a diffferent light than others now, she still going to tease you and/or play little pranks on you.
Has switched all your pillows around and giggles about it whenever she thinks about it
Matching pjs/sleepwear, butterfly themed ofc
Likes having you fall asleep with your head in her lap as she plays with your hair, she finds it calming and she likes knowing that your comfortable being that close to her.
Knows your sleeping patterns well and has the written down. Even changes the notes as your sleeping pattern changes.
Shinobu will also not give you or let you take any medicine that might make your sleepiness worse when you get sick.
She's also worried that you'll sleep through the day if you sleep for long hours, so she gets Aoi or Kanao to check on you.
I think overall Shinobu will be worried about your health, but if it doesn't really effect anything in your life than she'll be relatively fine with it. It even reminds her that she needs to rest as well!

“Who’s a little cutie? You are, yes you are! Yes you are!” Mitsuri cooed over Muichiro, her fingers flying along his stomach and sides.
“My my, Tokito- I haven’t seen a smile that big in a while from you! Kanroji is right- you truly are adorable.” Shinobu smiled behind her free hand, the other giving his neck and chin a brother scribble.
“Plehehahahhahahshe wahhahahhahahit!” He cried, squirming here and there as the girls tickled him relentlessly, cheeks bright pink and eyes misty with laughter.
You're probably wondering how the young Hashira got himself into a situation like this.
Well, it all started a mere few hours prior…
~~~
“Kocho-san! I have everything we need for tonight!” Mitsuri all but ran to the smaller woman, a basket of freshly baked treats in hand. The aroma was enough to shake Muichiro out of his daydreaming, turning his attention to the pair a few short meters away.
“Wonderful, Kanroji-san! It looks like you’ve baked quite a bit- I’m sure Kanao and the others will be thrilled.” Shinobu clapped her hands together, just as moved by the sugary sweet smell it seemed. “I made sure to clear out my schedule this evening- we won’t be bothered by any stray patients or the boys.”
“Is it a bad thing I’m happy they won’t crash girls night?” Mitsuri winced slightly, shame coloring cheeks. “I love them but they’re so…”
“Loud? Obnoxious? Smelly?” Shinobu offered a variety of adjectives.
“Well…yes.” Mitsuri gave in, earning a delighted giggle from the other. “It’s alright though- from what I hear they’re all going camping tonight.”
Camping? Muichiro hadn’t got the memo.
Or perhaps he did but wasn’t paying attention…
“Did they already leave?” Shinobu asked, suddenly aware of the lack of noise in the area. “I wonder if Shinazugawa’s gonna fight a bear again.”
“I believe so- fight what now?” Mitsuri stared. “And what do you mean again?”
“Long story- Oh! Tokito-san! You’re still here?” Whoops- he’d been caught. The Mist Hashira was trying to make a quiet escape, freezing when Shinobu called out to him. Turning around, he tugged at the ends of his hair, trying for nonchalance. “Oh, hey ladies. I was just…heading home.”
“Home? What- Don’t tell me they didn’t invite you?” Mitsuri looked crossed, eyes wide with indignation. “How cruel!”
“No, I’m sure they did- I just forgot.” Muichiro shrugged, hating how unsure his voice sounded. Had they not invited him? And if they did- why did no one remind him? Normally someone would come around to get him.
Maybe it was one of those “Grown ups only” trips. They probably didn’t want a kid like him around.
The thought made him rather sad then.
“So you're just going home? On such a nice day?” Mitsuri sounded alarmed, the concern oddly making him feel more like a kid. “But that’s no fun!”
“I’ll be fine. I'm a Hashira. I’ll train.” He straightened, raising his chin. “Then I’ll…do other stuff. Like…” He racked his brain for adult-like activities, mind running blank. “Train some more.”
“That’s a lot of training to do in one night.” Mitsuri tilted her head curiously. “What happens when you get too tired?”
“Then I’ll take a nap. And get right back to it.”
“Sounds boring.” Shinobu commented, smiling apologetically when Muichiro blushed. “Forgive me, Tokito-san.” Pausing, she turned back to Mitsuri, pulling the other girl over and whispering in her ear. The Love Hashira’s eyes widened before a bright smile touched her lips, nodding. “That’s a great idea!”
“What is?” Muichiro asked, growing weary when they turned to him with smiles.
“Mui, do you wanna join us this evening?”
~~~
“I can’t believe they’d go off without you like that. When they get back, those boys aren’t getting a crumb of my treats!” Mitsuri huffed as she ran her fingers through Muichiro’s hair, gently untangling it one strand at a time. They were now sitting at the butterfly mansion, pillows and blankets spread out and a variety of Mitsuri’s snacks on display for whomever felt hungry. Changed into comfy pajamas, the youngest Hashira nibbled on a cookie while the pink haired girl began a braid, starting from the top of his head and working her way down.
“My my, I believe it will be the first time we see Rengoku not smiling if you do that.” Shinobu grinned with impish glee, a few bottles of nail polish to her left as she carefully worked an ombre of pink to green on her friend’s toenails. With her hair down, she looked less regal. It felt like Muichiro was sitting with an older sister rather than the team’s doctor. “He’s like a grumpy cat when he pouts. Have you ever noticed that?”
“Oh absolutely! It’s rare, but it’s so funny!” Mitsuri giggled. “He just pouts and hides away- eventually coming out if you shake some treats.”
“I bet if he could, he’d crawl up on a dresser.” Muichiro added, earning another round of giggles from the girls. It made him feel good.
“Oh man- I can totally see him curled up on there and glaring at everyone!” Mitsuri laughed so hard she snorted, nearly throwing off Shinobu’s handiwork with how hard she was giggling. “Kanroji, your toes!” She cried, dabbing at the mess.
“I’m sorry- blame Muichiro!” Mitsuri cried back, falling into him some as he gaped in shock. “He’s the one putting all these Cat-Rengoku images in my head!”
“He really is though! He’s got those big cat eyes.” Muichiro defended, earning another pig snort from the girl.
“Pfft, okay, okay! No more cat talk until I get this last toe done!” Shinobu shook her head with a snicker at Muichiro as she carried on her task. “You’re gonna have tie dye feet if you keep squirming like that.”
“Not the first time, probably won’t be the last either.” Mitsuri was back doing Muichiro’s hair, her touch gentle against his scalp. “Thanks for letting me braid your hair, Mui. It’s so soft and long! Has it always been this way?”
“I think so…I don’t really remember.” He admitted quietly, stuffing his face with another cookie before they could ask anymore questions. The memories of his past were still so foggy. He remembered bits and pieces- a face like his own, a hut in which he lived. What really stood out were the feelings. Most of the time, his past felt like an ache in his chest, familiar yet unknown at the same time. It was frustrating- having all this pain but no memory of what caused it.
“Tokito-san?” Shinobu’s voice shook him free from his internal ache, making him look up. He was sure she was going to ask him what was wrong. The “I’m fine” was on his lips, but she surprised him with her next question. “Would you like your nails painted?”
“What?” His nails? Painted?
“Oo, that would be so pretty!” Misturi gushed, excited by the idea. “We could be twins! Maybe not in color, but through Kocho’s handiwork! She’s really good at painting nails, as you can see!”
Sure enough, Mitsuri’s toenails were impeccable. Despite her earlier squirming, Shinobu’s hand stayed true.
“Sure. Go for it.” Muichiro shrugged, feeling good at the delighted expression Shinobu wore.
“Okay! What color would you like?”
~~~
“Do you think Iguro-san likes me?” Mitsuri asked not too long later- her hair loose and spread out like a fan beneath her.
“Of course he does. The way he looks at you says it all.” Shinobu reassured her, also on her back, her toes painted bright purple. “No one looks at someone with that much adoration for jokes.”
“Ador-what, he really does?” Mitsuri blushed, hands on her cheeks and eyes wide. “He looks at me like that?”
“Like you're the only person in the room.” Muichiro agreed, the third on his back, raising a hand to look at his newly painted nails. After his toes, they did his fingers. He rather liked the teal color Shinobu chose- it was sparkly. “Really- the only person in the world sometimes.”
Misturi made a noise of squealing delight, covering her face as she giggled, kicking her feet. “Oh, I wanna tell him I like him so bad! Maybe I’ll do it one day- I’m just too nervous right now!” She lowered her hands, tilting her head back so she could look at her friends properly. “What about you two? Anyone you guys fancy?”
“Fancy? Look at you, using Tengen-lingo.” Shinobu teased, earning a light tug at her hair. “I don’t have anyone I fancy right now. I’m too busy.”
“What about Tomioka?” Muichiro asked, making them pause. Then they were laughing. “Did I say something funny?”
“Ohohoho honey- Tomioka’s dating Shinazugawa!” Shinobu giggled out, laughing harder at his face of surprise. “You didn’t know that?”
“I thought it was pretty obvious myself- they’re not exactly subtle about it!” Mitsuri nodded in agreement, turning over so she could lay on her belly. “The other day they were trying so hard to make it seem like they arrived separately!”
“Yeah, like we couldn’t see the wrinkled Haori on Tomioka!” Shinobu’s eyes were impish once more. “When he came in the other day, he smelled like Ohage. He tried to claim he got it as a snack.”
“Oh I’m sure he got a snack.” Mitsuri winked, earning a swat from a wide eyed Shinobu.
“Wait- how long have they been dating?” Muichiro asked, curious now. He never really cared for Corp gossip, but he was here and things were getting interesting.
“I’d say about two months now? Though they’ve been pining for each other for way longer.” Shinobu nodded, satisfied with her answer. “Shinazugawa always blushed when Tomioka complimented him, even when he threw a fit after.”
“Such a tsun-tsun.” Mitsuri shook her head in mock disappointment. “And Tomioka-san can be rather clueless about these kinds of things. It’s no wonder they took so long to get together.”
“Tragically so.” Shinobu mock sighed, giggling with her friend.
Tsun-Tsun? Clueless? Muichiro was learning new sides to his fellow Hashira tonight.
“So, Mui…what about you, hon?” Mitsuri smiled, eyes twinkling. “Anyone you fancy?”
At first, Muichiro didn’t know what to say. Did he fancy anyone? Not in the Hashira of course, but…
Sharp eyes. Black hair that flowed to his shoulder. A scar that ran along his nose-
“Ooo, he’s got a crush!” Misturi squealed in delight when Muichiro blushed, eyes widening with shock. Did he? He had a crush? “Who is it? What are they like? Is it someone we know?”
“Now now, Kanroji, give him a second.” Shinobu slowed the other down gently as she turned to him. “Muichiro, have you ever had a crush on anyone before?”
“No. Not really.” He confessed, face burning. It felt weirdly shameful to say it outloud. “Is that a bad thing?”
“Not at all!” Mitsuri jumped in, taking his hand in hers. “Crushes aren’t a mandatory thing; take Kyojuro for example. He’s never had a crush, and from what he’s told me, he’s never had romantic feelings for anyone. That doesn’t make him a bad person, right?”
“Of course not.”
“Exactly. And look at Kanroji-san. She crushes on everyone.” Shinobu smiled at her friend, grinning at her mock jaw drop. “That’s also perfectly valid.”
“Hey! I can’t help it- the world’s full of crushable people.” Mitsuri defended without much fight.
“The point is- when and if you develop a crush is completely up to you. There’s never a lifeframe on when you experience these things.” Shinobu reached out and squeezed his shoulder. “So- now that that’s clear; who’s the lucky person your heart is racing for?”
“I don’t really know his name. I met him while training with Gyomei a few times.” Muichiro looked at his and Mitsuri’s conjoined hands, the feeling of her gently squeezing it comforting. “He’s not really talkative, but the few times we have it’s really…nice.” He blushed, remembering how warm his crush’s voice was. “He has a scar on his nose, if that helps.”
“Genya!” The girls gushed, realization filling their voices.
“I think so…he’s great.” Muichiro smiled softly. Genya. He rather liked that name.
“That’s Shinazugawa’s brother, right?” Mitsuri asked.
“The younger of the two? Absolutely. He helps out here some days.” Shinobu nodded approvingly. “Sometimes I wish he was the Hashira one.”
“Oh, you're terrible, Kocho!”
“Not so- I’m just honest.”
Muichiro giggled in his sleeve, feeling lighter. A crush. He had a crush on Genya. And from the sounds of it, the girls approved. It was really exciting.
“Oi, did you just throw a pillow at me?” Shinobu’s yelp of surprise brought him back to present time. Mitsuri had her own pillow in hand, giggling like a gremlin.
“Oh I did! Come at me, Kocho!” She declared, squealing when the pillow in question smacked her right in the face.
It took less than five seconds before the duel broke out- pillows smacking one another as the girls screamed in laughter. Muichiro originally planned on using his own as defense, but before long he was just as into it as them, smacking whomever was in reach and yelping when he got smacked in return.
Of course- nothing ever stayed on track in fights like this. Mitsuri tossed away her pillow before lunging at Shinobu, knocking her into a pile of soft things. “Kanro-jihihihihihiihhiihihi!” Her cry of surprise turned into laughter as the taller girl attacked her with tickles, fingers flying across her stomach and sides with relentless speed.
“This is what you get, Kocho! Laugh for me-hehehehehehhehe!” Shinobu was quick, her own hands latching onto Mitsuri’s sides and squeezing- making her shriek in mirth. “Kohohohoohochoohohoohohoho!”
Muichiro sat back with amused eyes, giggling behind his pillow as he watched the pair tumble about, limbs flying and squeals spilling past their lips as they went to tickle the other. Whenever he saw Tengen and Rengoku having a tickle fight, he thought it was kinda funny. The girls doing it? It was downright hilarious.
That was, until they turned their sights onto him.
“Get Mui!” Mitsuri cried, tackling him. Shinobu was right beside her.
~~~
That’s where we find our dear Mist Hashira now, squirming and giggling helplessly as twenty fingers attack his torso, going for all his tickle spots.
“Aww, listen to him laugh! Mui, you are so cute!” Mitsuri cooed, giggling along with him as she gently pressed into his ribs, her talents as an older sister shining through each new scratch and prod.
“He’s rather precious, isn’t he? Sweet Tokito-san; I bet Genya would drop dead on the spot hearing you laugh so much!” Shinobu winked, grinning as Muichiro felt his face heat up more. He was starting to regret telling them about that.
“Plehehahhahahahse, stahhahahhap!” Muichiro wheezed, arching with a cackle as Mitsuri slipped her hand under him, clawing lightly at his back. “Nohohohohohot thehehehhere!”
“Aww, does someone have a ticklish back? Kanroji, flip him over!” Shinobu instructed. The taller girl wasted no time, pulling him into her lap as Shinobu shuffled over.
“Tokito-san, what does this say?” She then began her devious torture.
“AH! Ahehaahhahahhahahaha! Kohohoohohochohoohohoo!” A single finger dragged along his spine, writing out letters along his back. Each swipe made his brain fuzzy, breaking his focus. “Iihihiihihi dohoohohhohon’t knoohoohohohow!”
“Wrong! Try again! I’ll go slower this time.” It was worse slow. Even with the fabric of his pajamas in the way, it tickled like crazy. “Let’s start with ‘C’....’U’....”
“C-Cuhuuhuhuuhuhuhute?” He gasped out, earning a cheer.
“Right! And who’s cute, Tokito-san?” She traced the rest of the word, making him arch more.
“Y-Yohoohohohu twoohohohoho?” He guessed, earning more gushing.
“Such a charmer!” Mitsuri giggled.
“Isn’t he? Correct, but not the answer I’m looking for!” Shinobu scratched along the center of his spine, earning a snort. “Who’s cute, Tokito-san?”
“Fihiihhihine, fiihiihihine I’m cuuhuhuhuhuhte!” He gave in, relieved when the tickling finally stopped. Gasping for breath, he rolled gently off of Mitsuri, tucked between them as he tried to recover. “Thahahhaht was evihiihihihil!”
“Thank you.” Shinobu replied, making them laugh.
“You really are a cutie, Muichiro. Never forget that.” Mitsuri ran her hands through his bangs, leaning down to press a gentle kiss on his forehead. Anyone else would have gotten smacked away, but Muichiro found he rather liked the attention he got from the girls.
~~~
“Thanks for inviting me…I appreciate it.” He whispered softly, lying on his futon later that night. After the snacks were finished, more gossip was spilled, and yet another random tickle fight- this time Mitsuri being the one targeted; they were all sprawled out once more, this time with the intention of sleeping.
“Of course, Mui. We didn’t want you to be alone.” Mitsuri reached out and squeezed his hand.
“I would have been fine…” He began, realizing the lie as he spoke it. He wouldn’t have been. Not really. Sure, he’d get over it eventually-but the sting would have remained. Going home alone would have felt isolating.
“Well, I wouldn’t have. Not after what happened.” Shinobu shuffled over so her arm brushed his other side, taking his free hand. “I’m glad you came. Tonight was really fun.”
“It was! We should do this more often. And you can come too, Mui.” Mitsuri nodded, her voice growing sleepier by the minute.
“You're an honorary girl’s night member.” Shinobu agreed.
“Thanks, girls.” Muichiro smiled, pretending the blur in his vision was from sleepiness. He closed his eyes and settled in for a rest.
He was glad to have met the people he’d met.
I hope this was good!
Demon slayer Hashiras + Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, Kanao, and Nezuko - College AU headcanons
Still bored, wanna write something different for once. So here's my take on the demon slayer college AU
......
Muichiro
Muichiro is rather quiet and aloof, but it's mostly because of his memory problems.
But at the same time, he's still a kid
Therefore he wouldn't be in college yet, but I'd imagine he'd probably graduate early and more than likely take a gap year before attending college
If he were to attend college right out of high school, he'd most likely study diagnostic medicine so he can help people get to the root of their problems
...
Mitsuri
A gentle soul, as we all know, she's also able to see the good in everyone in every aspect of their character
But she's also been through a lot in regards to trying to find a suitable husband that can meet her needs. I would imagine she wouldn't want anyone else to go through that
Therefore I think she'd take up psychology with a focus in relationship or pediatric counseling. She seems like she can work well with children (have you seen her with Nezuko in her child form? IT'S SO WHOLESOME-)
...
Obanai
He's the snake hashira, so naturally he'd gravitate towards reptiles or working with animals in general
I'd imagine he was that really smart kid in high school that never really applied himself so it took his counselor really bugging the shit out of him to at least go to community college
So he gave in, applied to a few colleges he was recommended, and got into a good vet school
He works specifically with reptiles, mainly lizards and snakes
...
Shinobu
This one is rather self explanatory tbh, however I wouldn't say she'd go with nursing or becoming a doctor at all
Given the time period of Demon Slayer, a lot of natural remedies were used, especially in taisho era Japan
So I'd imagine Shinobu would go on to get into an Ivy league college to become an herbalist.
I think she would do this to honor her parents, mainly because they were herbalists themselves.
...
Gyomei
Seeing as how Gyomei is particularly religious, and has connections to orphanages, I'd imagine he would want to work with children
He would probably go on to be a social worker, basing his studies to concentrate on working with secondary school kids
Like, yes he loves kids of all ages, but I think because of people like Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke, he'd be more apt to work with teenagers
it's either that, or he gets a degree in theology
...
Rengoku
I don't think that he'd go to college, at least not right out of high school
He'd more than likely join the military, specifically the Army or Marine Corps., his sense of duty would probably explain why he signed a four year active duty contract with them
However, while in the military he'd more than likely have an MOS like infantry or maybe a combat engineer
If he were to go to school, he'd probably go on to study something like criminal justice or criminal law, since his sense of justice is also very prominent
...
Tengen
This man would more than likely be extremely indecisive as to what he wanted to do post-graduation
However, because a lot of his breathing styles have to do with sound and music, I think he'd go for a music degree or maybe something along the lines of sound engineering so he can become a producer
Although, I don't doubt he's thought about trade school to become a cosmetologist or a barber of some kind
Oh yeah, he also met his wives in his first year of high school, and have been with them ever since <3
...
Sanemi
Sanemi is 100% bloodlusted, mans will fight anyone and anything if he could
But with that said, I think he'd go to school for forensic psychology
I think he'd be so fascinated with the criminal mind that he'd want to work with them to get down to the root of why they committed a crime. Hell, maybe he'll try and help them be rehabilitated
But in all honesty he might just be a true crime geek and want to pull a Dr. Spencer Ried-
...
Giyuu
The soft spoken man graduated with Rengoku, and went into the military with him. They did the whole enlistment process together, swore in together, even went through basic training together
His MOS would probably be a SERE instructor, he wants to make sure people can defend themselves the right way
As for if he goes to college, he'd probably work towards a degree in psychology with a focus in PTSD, which also plays in hand with survivor's guilt, something he struggles with himself
Oh, did I mention that after Senjuro tapped out Rengoku from basic training, Rengoku tapped out Giyuu from formation? The brotherly love is strong with these two-
...
Tanjiro
He would probably follow in Rengoku's footsteps and join the military right out of high school
I'd imagine him being in the Marine Corps., I mean come on the extensive training for being a demon slayer may not be the same as the Marines but damn if it ain't intense-
If he were to get a degree while in the Marines, he'd probably follow in Gyomei's or Mitsuri's footsteps and become either a social worker or therapist
His MOS in the military would probably infantry, or maybe a chaplain since he's a good listener and can keep a secret if he needs to
...
Zenitsu
He drinks his respect women juice, and he's definitely a bit of an emotional person
However, because of the fact that he did brave through all of that thunder breathing, I wouldn't doubt he'd go to school to be a meteorologist.
I mean, it makes sense since he's been electrocuted by lightning during his training before final selection. So he'd probably want to keep people informed
And no, we're not going to mention the cute girls he works with at the news station-
...
Nezuko
Given how she was kinda, uh, turned into a demon. I would imagine she'd get a dual degree, one in psychology and one in demonology.
Like, yes she'd be a therapist but also somewhat of a religious leader. Taking into account her clients religious and mental health needs, and finding a way to combine their faith into their treatment while not being pushy about it
Because she was transformed into a demon, I'd imagine she was home schooled for a while by Tanjiro so she could continue her education
This girl would work for y e a r s to get her degrees and would probably graduate when Tanjiro gets out of the military, and he would absolutely surprise her at her college graduation
...
Inosuke
He was raised by boars, not to mention he lived in the forest for practically his entire life
So I don't think he'd just go to college, but he'd probably join a park ranger force as well!
His degree is in ecology with a focus in conservation. He loves the forest and doesn't want to see it go so his fighting spirit would come in strong with this path
he'd also get Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Zenitsu annual passes for the national parks because he's sneaky like that for his high school friends-
...
Kanao
This sweet girl definitely graduated early thanks to Shinobu's guidance
She'd probably get her degree in pediatric nursing, seeing as she's extremely gentle and good with kids
She didn't have a lot of friends coming out of high school, the only ones being the Kamado siblings, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and whoever Shinobu has as friends
Overall she's a sweetheart and we love her sm even though she may not talk much throughout the series-
......
And... done! Felt good to get those ideas out into the open, now there are no thoughts, head empty. Let me know what you want to see next!
So, I just had a thought! That thought is about hanahaki disease. If you don't know what that is.
"Hanahaki Disease is a fictional disease where someone begins coughing up flower petals because they have unrequited feelings for someone. The flowers can grow in the stomach, lungs, or heart, though it is traditionally in the lungs. Hanahaki Disease is a painful, slow disease that often develops over months, if not years, and begins with coughing up a few petals, and grows in intensity and pain until the victim is coughing up entire flowers, at which point the disease has reached its final stages. If not treated, the disease is fatal. It's primarily an online phenomenon that appears in fan works, but it has appeared in original works as well."
That is one website answer, hopefully that explains it a bit? Anyway, my thought was that there already enough romantic hanahaki disease ideas. So how about we make it platonic yandere instead?
In short I like the sound of platonic yandere hanahaki disease! How about making the demon slayer squad. In this case Kanao, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Genya suffer from this disease? The only problem is, child reader lives on the streets in the city. How would they react when they realized that they care about an child so much their body grows flowers? How would Shinobu, or Sanemi react to their family being so very deadly sick? Would they help actively the squad? Or would they try to ignore the obvious problems, and only make sure that the reader doesn't manage to escape?
Sorry for the long text. Take good care of yourself, and have a nice day or night!
Ohhh- ok I love this idea- you’re a genius. And I used to be obsessed with that fictional disease.
so the squad has the disease because child reader doesn’t love them (you barely know them) but in this post I want to go into their family.
•Shinobu would be searching constantly for a cure, she doesn’t want kanao to die!! She tries to show more love to her, worrying the disease is her fault.
•Nezuko is so scared, she can’t speak but seeing her brother coughing up flower petals and blood makes her so very scared. She has already lost all of her family but Tanjiro, she can’t lose him to.
•Sanemi is horrified, did he do this? Is it his fault? Will he lose his little brother forever because of his foolishness? No, he will fix this. He shows much more love and kindness to him, to the point Genya gets suspicious. He wants to fix this.
i can add more with reader soon if you want it continued!
Hope you're doing well!
I wracked my brain for a worthy question, but the best thing I could come up with is this:
I'm sure our heroes (specifically the Kamaboko squad) got to experience much relief and happiness after the demise of Muzan and his demons, but what do you think might possibly be the next biggest conflict for them (besides WWII) in world without demons?
I hope this is a decent question, one not too simple, but also not too complicated either. Thanks for everything you do!
Thank you for the warm wishes! If I were to be turned into a demon right this instant, my Blood Techniques would have something to do with paperwork and how there's never any end to it. I hope I have a worthy answer for your worthy question!
Hmm... if "conflict" doesn't necessarily imply battle, but anything that requires them to use their skills from the Corp days, then the 1923 Kanto Earthquake. This would take place about seven and half years after fighting Muzan, and what with the cast all being active in and residing around Tokyo, they'd have all been affected. I especially wonder how this would affect Kanao, for the following reasons: 1. She is from a district which I hear was pretty horribly damaged, and this might stir up complicated feelings about her past and any remaining family members whom she long lost contact with 2. She's be an active doctor by that time, with a drive to help 3. She'd probably have small children depending on her too, and if Tanjiro is affected by the mark as predicted, he's still have some time, but be getting closer to age 25...
Conflict was absolutely a part of the horrendous aftermath, as in the stress of survival after the initial earthquake and firestorm, there was a lot of violence against minorities and outcast groups--most notably, a massacre of Koreans. It's not the kind of thing a lot of former Corp members would stand for, should they witness it happening while they're trying to aid in recovery. I can picture a lot of them getting wrapped up in the middle of it.
I feel almost certain that the former Corp members--especially Kakushi--would unofficially reorganize temporarily for earthquake relief measures, and that the Ubuyashiki family would make a lot of untraceable charitable donations.
However, prior to the earthquake, Japan also got hit pretty hard by the Spanish Flu. That would have hit around two or three years after defeating Muzan, and again, I see the medical interventions being something the Corp from organize around and help with. There'd probably be a lot of worry for characters with a predisposition to illness, like Kiriya (even if he hasn't shown signs of his father's illness, he didn't believe he was safe until he lived past age 30), and again, Tanjiro, weakened by his experiences. Sanemi and Giyuu, too! Dang that Mark! I'm curious if the Butterfly Mansion hospital would be open to the public, or closed from the public to better care for disabled and other retired Corp members.
But if we thinking more widely about conflict, eventually, there's a divide between old ways and new ways, and at some point between Tanjiro and Sumihiko's time, the Kamado family stopped selling charcoal. However it was this happened, likely for economic reasons, it makes me very, very sad. (For the record, thoughts on the Corp members in WW2 are here.)
Questions and answers below the cut. All questions for Mirrored Sunset(🔄). Manga spoilers.
1: To the Hashira, what are your crows' names, and your hobbies?
[I don't have any names picked for the Kasugai Crows, so I won't be answering that one]
Michikatsu: I usually meditate, or work on strategy. Or train. That's when I'm not wrangling Nezuko and her friends.
Douma: If I'm not training, or wrangling the kids, then I try to relax. Meditating, the occasional hot bath, whatever I have time for. On certain days, like birthdays or anniversaries, I'll visit Kotoha and tell her about whatever updates I have.
Hakuji: I mostly focus on training, especially with Keizo. But I'm also spending a lot of time with Koyuki and we're preparing for the baby.
Nakime: I usually write music and practice with my biwa. Both for my fighting techniques, as well as to play in public. The extra money from my music is certainly not unwelcome, according to Master Kibutsuji.
Gyokko: Of course, I'm working my hardest as an artist in my spare time! Those pots won't make themselves, and I can never turn down an opportunity to release my creative juices!
Gyutaro: I usually train, and I had a chance to teach Inosuke some of the skills I learned when Ume and I were in Yoshiwara.
Ume: Well, I've been learning how to sew, thanks to Nezuko, so I practice that. And I also like to try new hairstyles, on myself or Nezuko. If it's not that, I'm usually with at least one of my brothers, and maybe training, if I feel up for it.
Enmu: I usually work on perfecting my techniques, or I check in with Master Kibutsuji.
Rui: I'm usually having bonding activities with my family. We like to play games, and stuff like that.
Tamayo: I tend to spend my free time experimenting with my various drugs and poisons. Trying to create the most effective serums I can, and I'm hoping to create something we can use to kill Ubuyashiki.
2: To the Twelve Kizuki, what are your Blood Demon Arts?
Gyomei: Namu Amida Butsu. My blood, when spilled on the earth, allows me to control it.
Sanemi: I control wind. It's easiest to control the currents I create from my wounds, but I can still control normal air currents. Makes it kinda hard for those Slayers to fight when they can't use those breathing techniques of theirs...
Giyuu: Hydrokinesis.
Kyojurou: I have the ability to construct and control flames! I most often use a sword of flames, especially against Slayers!
Muichirou: I create mist... I can't remember what it does, though... [OOC: It has varying effects]
Obanai: I create snakes. Aside from Kaburamaru, of course. They're venomous, and so am I.
Mitsuri: I have so much love for everyone, that I just draw them in! And they're all so sweet, too![OOC: She has a hypnotic aura that draws people to her, and makes them incapable of attacking her.] I can also control my flesh as needed, and I've had little kittens for companions since I became a Lower Moon! They're so cute, and they let me see through their eyes, too!
Tengen: I have the flashy ability to create and use sounds. Mimicking voices, releasing sound waves, though I prefer the latter.
Shinobu: I create butterflies from my blood, and I have complete control over them. When they bite someone, they secrete a deadly venom. It's far from a quick death, if I so desire. And I do quite enjoy watching the effects from time to time! It's so fascinating!
Genya: It's kind of weird. I can get the powers from certain flesh I eat. So I can copy Blood Demon Arts, or use the elements of Slayers' breathing techniques.
Kanao: My Blood Demon Art is similar to Shinobu's, that I create butterflies. Though, mine act differently. Anyone they bite falls under my control, and will follow my orders without question. I've even made Slayers slaughter their allies, and they can't help but follow my command.
Zenitsu: I'm fast, and I also emit electricity. And I can control the output, so I either stun or kill someone.
Chapter 27: Home
Tumblr media
Returning from home, Tanjiro pays a visit to the former Hashira. During his visit to the Rengokus, he is greeted with wonderful news.
Author Note: Hey dear readers <3 Apologies for the delay in publishing this chapter. I got sick repeatedly and my brain felt like it had turned into mush (it still does, to be honest). Most of my time has been spent recovering, working or doing brainless activities.
But here it is! This officially marks the end of the story, although there will be an Epilogue chapter. (I've adjusted the total number of chapters accordingly.)
What a journey it has been! I hope you enjoyed the ride. Have fun with this chapter, I hope it makes up for all the angst I've put you through <3 Thank you for sticking with this story until its conclusion! Warning: NSFW/kinky scene in the middle ;)
As summer began, the official dissolution of the Demon Slayer Corps took place. Surviving members were bestowed with a generous retirement allowance, securing their financial well-being for the rest of their lives. The wisteria estates remained open to them, providing a sanctuary to heal and rejuvenate their battle-scarred bodies. Now, most of these veterans were trying to rediscover a semblance of normalcy and seek a new purpose in their lives. However, what was normalcy for individuals whose existence had been defined by the relentless pursuit of demons. The answer proved easier to find for some than others.
Eight months after Muzan's defeat, Tanjiro, who had returned to his native mountains with his sister and two best friends, decided to visit his former comrades. His first stop was the Butterfly Estate, transformed into a hospital catering to civilians and veterans alike. Additionally, it now operated as a medical training center specifically for women. There, he reunited with Shinobu, Aoi, Kanao, and the other young butterfly girls he had befriended during his year of service in the Corps. Despite the prospect of a less demanding era, their responsibilities persisted beyond the demise of the demon lord, and they all exuded a sense of fulfilment in their respective roles. Tanjiro genuinely shared their joy.
"Is Giyuu around?" he inquired curiously after completing his check-up. The former Water Hashira's periodically visited the manor's owner, despite their complex and undefined relationship.
"Tomioka-san is often traveling," Kanao responded, having conducted the examination. "He comes back monthly to assess the condition of his arm prosthesis, and I noticed he seems happier and more expressive than before. He and my mistress still quarrel a lot, but you know what they say: 'Misery loves company.'"
"Neither of them appears miserable, though," Tanjiro replied with a smile. "It's probably just their way of caring for each other."
The following morning, Tanjiro bid farewell to his sister and friends at the break of dawn and set on towards the Rengoku Estate. He reached his destination after a relatively tranquil half-day walk. No longer having to rush as he did during his time as a Slayer brought him satisfaction; he could now fully appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape. He hoped he could explore the area in the future.
As he entered the estate's gate, Tanjiro's gaze was immediately drawn to Senjuro. The teenager was tending to plants that hadn't been there during the visitor's previous trip. At first glance, Tanjiro could discern that the court appeared more vibrant and flourishing than before.
"Senjuro! It's wonderful to see you again!" the charcoal burner warmly exclaimed.
"Oh... Tanjiro-san! It's been a while!" Senjuro responded with a gleeful smile, setting down his gardening tools to embrace his friend. "How have you been?"
"Good! And you? How's your family?"
"Father is doing well; he's in the backyard chopping wood for the fire. Aneue and Aniue are still at the dojo; they'll be back for lunch. I'll brew some tea; please follow me."
"At the dojo? You have to tell me all about it!" Tanjiro responded with a smile, trailing his friend inside the estate.
The younger Rengoku prepared a fragrant green tea, serving it alongside exquisite-looking pastries to his guest. As Tanjiro savored the treats, he was taken aback by their unique and delightful flavor.
"It's delicious! What is it?"
"These are Kanoko's yokan; she uses sweet potatoes instead of red bean paste. They are Kyojuro's favorite treats."
"I can see why! How are they doing? You mentioned they have a dojo now?"
"Yes! After the final confrontation, my older brother was relieved that there were no remaining demons. However, having dedicated his life to their eradication, he found himself lost on how to fill his days. Boredom and a sense of emptiness weighed heavily on him. That's when Kanoko suggested the idea of establishing a dojo to teach swordsmanship to the citizens. They regularly bring in former Slayers to instruct the students. They've repurposed the old Nagase family house, which Kanoko managed to buy back, as the dojo. This way, the training facility is closer to town, and it avoids having strangers inside our home, which Father wouldn't appreciate. It's been three months now, and their dojo is thriving."
"That’s great! It suits them, they both have the knack for being wonderful sensei."
"Yes! Besides that, Aneue helps me improve my baking skills. I'd like to open a tea house one day."
"That's awesome, Senjuro! Would you consider opening it near my location? We really lack a place to enjoy good tea among friends! It would be a success! Nezuko would be delighted to see you more often."
"I... I'll think about it," the young Rengoku replied, blushing. He secretly harbored feelings for the Kamado girl. "And you, Tanjiro, how are you doing now? Have you managed to regain a normal life?"
"Quite so! We retired back to our old house with Nezuko, along with Inosuke and Zenitsu. The villagers had kept it well for us. Nezuko is going to school and is also working as an herbalist, and I've resumed my charcoal-making activity. Inosuke aids us both with our tasks. Zenitsu, well … he has difficulty walking, so he doesn’t help much. But he has taken up music, and he plays concerts in nearby towns! He’s happy because it makes him popular with girls, without requiring him much effort since he's talented. Former Slayers visit us regularly; you should come too!"
"Oh... That's great! I won't fail to pass on the message to the others; they'll surely like the idea!"
They continued chatting for an extended period, savoring each sip of their brew. Just before they emptied the teapot, Shinjuro joined them. Tanjiro was impressed by the changes that had occurred in the past drunkard; although he still radiated an intimidating and deterrent aura, his emitted a much calmer and serene smell than before. Brief updates were exchanged between him and Tanjiro; the patriarch still wasn't very inclined towards small talk. Suddenly, a familiar voice boomed in the garden:
"We're back home!!"
"Not so loud, Kyojuro!" a feminine voice reprimanded, likely yours.
The couple soon entered the room where the others were gathered. The last Flame Pillar walked with pride and ease; if not for the distinct clattering accompanying his steps, one would never suspect the wooden and metal prosthesis under his knee. Upon noticing his former Tsuguko's presence, Kyojuro's smile widened.
In a burst of joy, Tanjiro threw himself into the arms of his senpai, who caught him and affectionately patted the back of the sniffling boy's head with a hearty laugh.
"Always so emotional, Tanjiro! Glad to see you're doing well!"
"I've missed you all so much!" exclaimed the young charcoal maker, smiling tearfully as he embraced you in return. "Nezuko is at the Butterfly Estate; she'll come too tomorrow if that's okay!" He refrained from mentioning that Zenitsu and Inosuke were also present but had declined his proposal to tag along under various excuses, probably too intimidated by the former Hashira to visit without a good reason.
Senjuro blushed at the news of his crush's upcoming arrival. You noticed and smiled mischievously.
"Well, of course, we'd love to see her too, right, Senjuro? We have work awaiting us, we should prepare the best dishes and pastries for our friends tomorrow."
"I can help you!" Kyojuro offered enthusiastically.
"Your cooking is horrible, son," Shinjuro retorted in a dry tone. "Help me with the roof repairs instead. We need to make sure everything is ready before your baby arrives."
"Your baby?" repeated Tanjiro with sparkling eyes, looking at both of you.
"Nothing is certain," you corrected with a half-hearted glare toward the man and his eldest. "I haven't had my period yet this month, and they're making a big deal out of it. It could be for many other reasons."
"Not with the determination you both put into it every night," Shinjuro mumbled.
You tucked your head into your shoulders and walked away, trying to feign you hadn't heard to escape further embarrassment. Senjuro followed you closely, twisting his hands and avoiding eye contact with flushed cheeks. In contrast, Kyojuro didn't flinch in the face of the accusation, and only nodded vigorously in approval. The burgundy-haired boy showed no reaction to the comment, blinking innocently, his head tilted to the side. As the eldest in a relatively large family living in the middle of the woods, he was not ignorant of how babies were made. His parents had explained it to him, and he had witnessed many animals mating in spring, but he didn't understand why the subject was embarrassing. (The reason was that his parents had been much more discreet in the conception of their kids, preserving their intimate moments far outside of their home, which only had one common room.)
Tanjiro lingered for the meal and part of the afternoon, visiting the dojo and assisting everyone in their household activities, before heading back to the Butterfly Estate. Despite your and Kyojuro's efforts to convince him to stay overnight by arguing that it wasn't very safe to travel alone late, the young man declined.
"It'll be fine; I should arrive before it gets too dark, and the moon is almost full anyway. Not to mention, nights are much less dangerous than before," he reminded reassuringly.
You nodded reluctantly, scratching the back of your head. It was sometimes challenging to remember yourselves that the world had changed and that darkness was no longer the demons' territory.
"True, but there's still the risk of aggressive animals and marauders," you argued nonetheless. You were concerned that the boy's disabled eye and arm would make it difficult for him to orientate or defend himself.
"I'm unlikely to encounter any, but I’d handle it even if that's the case," he replied with confidence as if he had read your thoughts. "I promised Nezuko I'd be back tonight, I wouldn't want her to worry. See you tomorrow!"
After bidding you farewell enthusiastically, the young man trotted away at a good pace, demonstrating that he had lost almost nothing of the speed and endurance acquired over the past few years.
The next day, you closed the dojo after the morning session, giving you and Senjuro time to prepare various dishes, both sweet and savory. When the Kamado siblings arrived in the late afternoon, the little Rengoku was extremely nervous, fidgeting around and busying himself with trivial tasks. This flustered side of him was clearly in contrast with the spectacular confidence and spontaneity his older brother exuded, but it made him endearing. With a small smile, you thought that he and Nezuko would make a nice couple. Both had sweet and altruistic personalities, and you knew they would grow into fine and reliable adults.
You found a reason to attend to something in the dojo despite the fact that the place was closed, providing the two youngest an opportunity to spend time together, and you forcefully brought Tanjiro along. The redhead resisted a bit, his protective side unsure about leaving his little sister alone with another boy. However, he yielded easily to Kyojuro's enthusiasm to train with him, the fiery man unwittingly assisting you since he had yet to realize his baby brother's feelings for Nezuko.
When you all regrouped later for dinner, the atmosphere was cheerful, with everyone displaying a relaxed expression. Conversations flowed, relating the events of the day and sharing updates on various people you knew. Taking advantage of the moment, Tanjiro sought more details about his friends' situations.
"So, you're married then," Tanjiro presumed, given it was the norm for couples living under the same roof and trying to start a family. "Since when? Should I call you Rengoku-san now, Nagase-san?"
"I'm still a Nagase, but feel free to call me Kanoko, Tanjiro-san," you replied with a smile. "We completed the civil registry form upon our return to Komazawa, so, in the eyes of the country, we're already wedded. However, my ancestor Nagase Oai secured a special agreement for saving one of the Emperor's relative from a demon during the Sengoku era. As a result, the husband of a Nagase and their children are supposed to adopt her name. While very few Japanese men would accept this, Nichirin swordsmiths were willing to forsake their identity to shield their clan from demons, which is why the Nagase women have always betrothed men from the Swordsmith village. Since Kyojuro is the eldest son of an esteemed warrior family with origins older than mine, enforcing this rule posed stronger social challenges than before. It was eventually agreed that our first son would be a Rengoku, and the subsequent children Nagase."
Tanjiro appeared impressed by the explanation. With a dreamy and curious look, he asked, "Since you had a love marriage [A/N: "renai kekkon," opposed to the most common option at this time, the "omiai kekkon," arranged marriage], how did Kyojuro-san propose to you, Kanoko-san?"
You choked on your tea, accidentally spitting it in the young man's face. Struggling with a violent fit of coughing, you managed to offer a handkerchief to your new victim, who was frozen in surprise with closed eyes.
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't expect that question. I mean ... uh..."
"It's a fun story!" Kyojuro interjected with his loud voice. "I asked her while we were – ..."
"DON'T TELL HIM!" you shouted, slapping a hand over his mouth. He didn't even blink despite the force of the impact.
"Perhaps it's better to keep that information private!" he corrected himself, his enthusiastic expression unfazed when you released him after a few seconds of caution.
Nezuko and Senjuro laughed at your interaction, while Shinjuro rolled his eyes, a smirk playing on his lips. Only Tanjiro seemed lost: "Um ... okay, I guess? I don't see what's so funny ... but as long as you're happy."
"You're too innocent, big brother," teased Nezuko with a smile.
"Eeeeh?! I'm not sure I want to hear that from you, Nezuko," Tanjiro retorted with a worried look.
"You're perfect as you are, Tanjiro," you reassured him firmly, still feeling embarrassed. At that moment, you were immensely grateful for his innocence.
"Ha! That reminds me, Tanjiro! The Shinto ceremony and the wedding banquet will take place in early autumn; you should come!"
"You didn't send him the invitation?" you asked with an aghast expression, briefly forgetting the previous topic.
"Hmm! It's quite plausible that it slipped my mind!" Kyojuro replied with a carefree smile.
You massaged the bridge of your nose with a sigh, looking exasperated, and everyone around chuckled. You couldn't help but grin at your turn; it was impossible to stay angry for long against your husband, with his radiant and warm personality despite his (endearing) oddities. The evening concluded shortly after that, and the Kamado siblings slept in this time before heading home, carrying with them the promise to return in a few months with their friends to celebrate your union.
Tumblr media
In the tranquil dawning, a gentle fragrance, a blend of berries and blooming flowers wafted through the lush garden, accompanied the pleasant and hazy dreams that often ended your nights of rest since peace had returned for the demon slayers. Lazily turning around, you were delicately drawn from the depths of slumber by someone caressing in your hair. You smiled weakly, knowing whose hand was playing with your morning-messy locks.
"Hey..." you greeted slightly hoarsely, fluttering your heavy lids open.
"Rise and shine, little flame. Today is the day you become my wife," announced Kyojuro's voice cheerfully as he rubbed the tip of his nose against your temple.
"I'm already your wife, honey," you reminded him in an amused tone.
"In my heart and in the eyes of the Emperor, but not yet before the gods."
You chuckled softly at his lyrical outburst, much to his delight. He enjoyed seeing you so relaxed and happy. He tenderly placed his lips on yours, savoring your laughter at its source.
You closed your eyes, relishing in the sensation of his lips meeting yours as one of the first feelings to greet you each morning. Parting your lips, you welcomed the gentle exploration of his tongue. The warm hands of your beloved cupped your chest, fondling your bosoms adoringly over the light night yukata, causing your nipples to peak through the fabric. It was hard to track any changes while he had the pleasure of touching your breasts almost every day, but Kyojuro couldn't help to believe that they had grown and become more sensitive lately. He wondered if it a potential sign of pregnancy. The thought of witnessing your body transform to welcome a future baby into the world excited him even more than he already was.
The deepening kiss, coupled with these affectionate caresses, quickly stirred a familiar warmth within you, altering the rhythm of your breathing. Deliberately, Kyojuro loosened your collar, sliding his hand underneath to explore your soft contours before delicately rolling one of your nipples between his rough fingers. Your moan was muffled against his tongue, and you felt him press his hips against you in response, a notable bulge forming under his yukata.
"Aren't we going to be late if we keep going?" you managed to murmur, though you weren't sure to possess enough willpower to halt your intimate activities.
"Mhh... Maybe, but does it matter? The party can't start without us anyway."
An amused snort evaded you. With a smile, Kyojuro's fervent lips descended towards your chest, tearing aside the other piece of fabric to reveal your bosom, and closed his mouth around your neglected nipple. A slight gasp escaped you at the temperature contrast between the cool morning air and the searing warmth of his tongue playing with your sensitive tit. Uncertain whether to give in and pull him closer or be reasonable and push him away, you found yourself tightly gripping his mane. He groaned and pressed his groin harder against you in reaction, lightly biting your delicate skin.
"Ha ..., it's difficult to believe I'm dealing with the strict and punctual Flame Pillar."
"Good thing I'm retired, then. But you know, I used to be occasionally late because of important missions. And now, there's a crucial one that requires all my attention."
"Which one?" you asked, matching his tone, a small smirk playing on your face.
His lips left your panting chest to whisper in your ear, lightly nibbling its contour. The hand that was teasing one of your nipples slid under your slightly loosened belt, slowly tracing your slick folds with the tips of his fingers.
"Making sure to make you the mother of my children."
Despite anticipating a response of this nature, you couldn't help but blush at his directness, sucking in some air sharply. He subtly shifted over you while kissing your neck with burning passion, rubbing his clothened hardness between your tights. You were more than willing to support him in his mission. Panting slightly, you also loosened his obi, freeing his imposing manhood that slammed against your partially exposed lower belly. You stroked the silky and flushed skin of his engorged member, hearing your partner take a deep breath as your cool fingers locked around his grith, stimulating him in a back-and-forth motion while conspicuously guiding him towards your warm and welcoming opening.
Kyojuro slipped his hand under one of your knees, bringing your leg close to your bust and spreading it to grant him full access to your intimacy and allow for the promised penetration and release to be as deep as possible. His tongue found yours again in a feverish dance, his free hand grazing your jaw before closing around your throat as his firm tip kissed your lower lips, teasing you with shallow thrusts.
Even though you were well acquainted with Kyojuro's seductively provocative side and understood that the slow buildup and restraints were meant to prepare for a more intense pleasure later on, impatience gripped you. You wanted him to pin you harshly to the futon mat and make love to you wildly now; besides, you had no time to waste with the day ahead. Annoyed, you delivered a sharp slap to Kyojuro's buttocks, drawing his shocked gaze towards you. However, you didn't miss the peculiar gleam in his blazing, widened pupil, suggesting something more than mere surprise. You also felt how his hand tightened around your neck and how his manhood subconsciously hit deeper against your inner walls when the slap resonated.
"Don't tease me, Kyo."
"Do that again," he requested lowly, his tone both mischievous and interested.
You raised a brow, pleasantly intrigued. "Did you like..."
Someone cleared their throat behind the bedroom door, disturbing you:
"Kyojuro, Kanoko ... interrupt what you're doing ... whatever you're doing ... we need to prepare shortly," mumbled Shinjuro's deep and noticeably uncomfortable voice. "Your friends have arrived to help you get dressed for the ceremony ... try to look presentable before receiving them."
In an instant of stunned silence, you and your husband exchanged wide-eyed glances, jaws slightly ajar, pondering when the patriarch had approached and how much he had overheard – probably more than you could dare to imagine. You hid your flushed face in your hands, feeling dreadful for having subjected yet again the inhabitants of the house to the consequences of your passionate love. Even Kyojuro looked somewhat uncomfortable for once.
"I guess the mission we wanted to accomplish will have to wait for the approval of the gods," he sighed after a moment.
The almost dramatic conclusion broke the sexual and nervous tension, and you burst into laughter. Kyojuro smiled and kissed you one last time before releasing you to get dressed more properly.
The preparations took several hours, at least for you. Tengen barged into your room unannounced, seemingly disappointed not to find you in a compromising situation (you silently thanked Shinjuro for his earlier intervention). Declaring that you were going to be late, the shinobi had thrown his best friend over his shoulder and rushed away, followed by a fidgety Senjuro, alarmed to see his big brother transported like a mere bag of rice. Meanwhile, you received the much more courteous visit from Mitsuri and Nezuko, both excited to help you with your makeup and dress. For the occasion, you had planned to wear a shiromoku, a magnificent white wedding kimono. Its fabric was adorned with discreet kanoko motifs sewn in a different, silky thread. The outfit was paired with a long red uchikake coat embroidered with gold, reminiscent of the colors of the house you were joining, but featuring the Nagase family emblem on your back instead of your husband's. Another departure from strictly conventional attire was the absence of a headdress, as you disliked its symbolism of submission. Convincing Shinjuro had been challenging, as he was a man of tradition, however Kyojuro had argued extensively in your favor and ultimately obtained the approval of his father and the Shinto priest. Consequently, the girls settled for styling your hair into a taka bun, adorned with flowers and mother-of-pearl pins.
"Your hair is beautiful, Kanoko-san!" Nezuko exclaimed. "Its snow-white shade with hints of metallic blue is amazing."
"Thank you. Actually, that's not how they used to look like. The same goes for my irises ... they depigmented when I became a demon, and since then, they've never regained their natural aspect."
"Oh, I didn't know. I'm sorry. They suit you well, though ... what color were they before?"
You friendly answered their questions, and the conversation seamlessly transitioned into discussions about each other's unusual genetic or acquired traits. You learned the origin of Tanjiro's scar and Mitsuri’s cute but curious features – apparently, she had eaten such a huge quantity of sakura mochis that her hair and eyes changed color overnight. You smiled as you listened to her story, thinking it was a tale Kyojuro could have come up with.
By the hour they finished with your refined makeup, the rest of the household had already departed. Taking a taxi to the shrine that had accepted your unconventional marriage, you experienced the speed and comfort of a motorized vehicle for the first time. Despite the noise and smell, the modernity of the conveyance left a lasting impression on you. The world was undoubtedly changing while you were busy battling demons, and you found yourself wondering about the additional technologies that would be introduced in the upcoming years. Arriving at the shrine, you noticed that only Shinjuro was waiting at the bottom of the stairs leading to the sacred place, arms crossed.
"The others are already in the sanctuary," he explained while you descended from the vehicle. "Uzui insisted that you and Kyojuro keep the surprise of your outfits until the very last occasion. I stayed behind to welcome you. We can join them now."
Mitsuri and Nezuko eagerly ascended the steps, impatient to catch a glimpse of the groom, leaving you alone with the older man. Shinjuro scrutinized you for a moment, and his expression softened.
"I was skeptical about your choices, but you make a beautiful and very dignified wife, Kanoko. I'm sure Ruka would have been delighted to have you as a daughter too."
The unexpected compliment warmed your heart. You met Shinjuro's gaze and sincerely smiled.
"Thank you, Father."
Shinjuro appeared moved by the term of address, although he swiftly concealed his emotions with a cough and a furrowed brow, suddenly bothered by an invisible speck of dust on his haori sleeve. While it was customary for married women to address their in-laws this way, you had never adhered to it, and he hadn't held it against you given your shared history. Regaining composure, he extended his arm to escort you, as a parent would if they had been present. Smiling, you slipped your hand into the crook of his elbow, ready to follow him when someone called out to you from behind.
"Kanoko."
You turned your head in surprise.
"Giyuu! You came," you exclaimed, beaming. "You hadn't responded to the invitation, so I thought I wouldn't see you."
Shinjuro squinted at the man. He was wearing western clothes and had shorter hair, now, but he had recognized him; they had crossed paths a few time before the official end of his Flame Pillar career. He instinctively felt that there was a special connection between you two. Did his son already have a rival? Perhaps he should have insisted more on the wedding headdress, after all.
"I'm not staying. I just wanted to congratulate you," your raven-haired friend replied with a sweet smile.
Despite the changes he underwent following the triumph over Kibutsuji Muzan, the last Water Hashira was still not at his best in crowded or noisy environments, such as the upcoming banquet. He was also hesitant to draw attention to himself by attending the religious union of a woman he had courted. Kyojuro wouldn't mind his presence because he deeply respected his former comrade and could only empathize with the feelings he had developed for you (he had approved the invitation, after all). The groom wasn't the type to seek to humiliate people out of insecurity either, and you were sure he would treat Giyuu with as much care as any guest, making every effort to ensure his comfort. However, you couldn't ignore the possibility that the other retired Pillars might tease the late visitor, knowing his repressed love for you. The last thing you wanted was for your friend to feel uneasy in such a joyous occasion.
"I'm grateful," you stated genuinely. "That means a lot to me. How about we share some salmon with daikon radish when you're back in the area?" You were aware it was his favorite dish.
"Deal," he responded, his eyes creasing slightly as his smile widened. "Be happy, Kanoko. You deserve it.”
“So do you.”
Never had you seen such a bright and expressive smile on him before; the warmth it brought to you was palpable. Regardless of your memories together and the uncertainties of the future, Giyuu would always hold a significant place in your heart, and you knew the sentiment was mutual. Seeing him content only added to your happiness. You reached out, and he accepted your hand without hesitation, intertwining your fingers before lifting them to his lips for a gentle kiss. Without lingering, he released you swiftly, his expression still serene, before bowing his head to you and Shinjuro, vanishing as quickly as he had appeared.
The Rengoku patriarch clicked his tongue disapprovingly.
"Good riddance. I don't like him. Back in the Corps, he always acted like he was mute but had a sharp tongue when he opened his mouth, and this nasty habit of doing as he pleases. Who behaves like that with a taken woman, anyway?"
"Not to offend you, Shinjuro-san, but you don't seem to like many people," you retorted playfully. The grumpy patriarch grumbled, eliciting a giggle from you. "Don't worry. Giyuu is a precious friend and an honorable man, despite what you think. He would never interfere. And, most importantly, I'm deeply in love Kyojuro, whom I am marrying today, remember? How about you escort me to his side now... Dad?"
The mature man blushed, caught off guard by your sudden familiarity, and quickly reminded you to address him as "chichiue", not "oto-san," though there was no heat in his reprimands. You chuckled at his strictness and followed him up the stairs leading to the shrine, still holding onto his arm.
In the sanctuary courtyard, Kyojuro, the Kamado siblings, Mitsuri, Tengen and his wives awaited your arrival. Seeing your husband meticulously dressed in his wedding attire made your heart skip a beat. He donned a black montsuki over a dark hakama, the flaming emblem of his family adorning his haori's back and the crest of your family placed on the chest. Tengen had evidently spent time styling his friend's unruly mane into a refined bun, leaving his spiky fringe and two shorter strands along his jaw to frame his sunny face. The artistic touch of the exuberant "god of festivities" was apparent in the eyepatch decorated with incandescent gemstones covering Kyojuro's usually bare scar, along with discreet jewelry around his wrists, neck, and belt. After admiring you with a gleam in his eye, your husband approached you and excitedly took your hand. Shinjuro sighed as he adjusted to your not-quite-traditional outfits and your constant public displays of affection, holding back his gruff comments.
"I knew you would look beautiful in wedding attire, Kanoko, but you're even more stunning than anything I could dream of."
"Thank you, sunshine, but don't get too used to it. I still prefer wearing hakama, and the makeup and hairstyle took way too long for me to tolerate it on a regular basis. You are very handsome, too..."
"Don't get too used to it either. I thought Uzui was plotting to pull my hair out trying to comb it. I had to stop him from putting lipstick on me and painting my nails, and you should have seen the haori covered with rubies that he had initially prepared. The thing was sparking so brightly it would have blinded our guests, and it was the heaviest mantle I had ever worn," he confided in a hushed tone that was still too loud to go unnoticed, especially by the former Sound Hashira.
"Hey, you ungrateful bastard," protested the interested party. "It's not my fault if you have no taste. Monogamous couples like you only get married once, at least most of the time, so why not make it memorable with a flashier style? I don't get lame people."
Laughter filled the air until the priest and maikos urged everyone to calm down, marking the beginning of the ceremony.
The banquet that unfolded after the Shinto ritual took place directly at the Rengoku Estate. Such occasions were known for hosting a broader social circle than the shrine's exclusive guest list. Many former Demon Slayers attended, alongside associates from your independent demon-hunting career and the residents of Komazawa. The buffet, offering a variety of dishes and desserts, featured highlights such as hayashi beef rice and salt-grilled bream with roasted sweet potatoes – both yours and Kyojuro's favorites. While a few families retired after the sumptuous meal, the ensuing party remained vibrant. To the delight and amusement of the guests, Tengen and Zenitsu entered a live musical contest.
Stepping away from the exuberant show, you sought a moment of calm in the night air. Before long, your husband joined you, wrapping you in his embrace.
"Is everything okay, my love? Would you like me to ask the guests to leave?"
"No, it's not often we get to have this much fun with our friends; let's savor it a bit longer." As you held your beloved in your arms, a faint scent caught your attention. "Did you have a drink, Kyojuro?"
"Um ... just a little. Can you smell the alcohol?" he inquired with concern, the idea conjuring unpleasant memories related to his father.
"Barely, it's not overpowering, just unusual."
"Uzui is a bad influence, I'm afraid," he chuckled somewhat sardonically. "Kocho and Shinazugawa too. They convinced me that since I already had sake at the temple, I could break my habits for today and return to being the 'boringly sober Rengoku' after the party."
You offered a small empathetic smile. His comrades were likely just enthusiastic about fully letting loose with the groom for this exceptional celebration. While you didn't find it proper to encourage excessive drinking, you knew they were all good people, making it difficult to harbor any resentment towards them. Moreover, Kyojuro wasn't one to yield without being confident in his decisions, even under pressure. Unlike his father's experiences with sake, he was in a positive mental state, allowing him to appreciate alcohol in moderation.
"Hey! Rengoku! You'll have the rest of the night with your wife; for now, you're supposed to entertain us. Give us a speech," Tengen interrupted loudly from a distance, and everyone around him erupted in cheers.
Releasing you and proudly crossing his arms over his chest, Kyojuro turned to his friends and exclaimed with a big smile, his voice resonating throughout the estate:
"Of course! Allow me to regale you with the epic legends of my ancestors! Like the time when Rengoku Genjuro faced the giant river shrimp that terrorized the nearby villagers...!"
"Whaaaat? That's not the kind of speech I was asking for!" protested Uzui amid the guffaw of the audience, but it was already too late; Kyojuro was on a roll.
The story turned out to be truly engrossing, and you laughed until tears poured down your cheeks as Kyojuro explained how Genjuro, after defeating the titanic creature with a secret Flame Breathing technique, requested as a reward that the villagers make tempura out of its flesh. He consumed so much of the resulting mountain of tempura that his hair took on a shrimp color, and since then, it became a characteristic of the Rengoku family.
"I thought it was because your ancestor Imojuro had eaten too many sweet potatoes?" Tanjiro asked very seriously when the laughter calmed down. He had heard that version during his time here as a Tsuguko. Shinjuro let out a brief snort at the mention of this nonexistent ancestor whose first particle, "imo," already meant "sweet potato."
"No, it's said it’s because of the Kankagari ceremony performed by Rengokus' wives, who gaze at a flame for two hours a day during their pregnancy," Senjuro intervened with a sympathetic smile for his brother’s former student's gullibility.
"Exactly, it's for all these reasons!" Kyojuro exclaimed enthusiastically.
Wiping away your tears, you observed your husband's return after a few more minutes of mingling with the guests. Your friends and family engaged in animated discussions about the possible reasons behind the hereditary traits of the Rengokus and why they seemed to only produce male offspring. A smile adorned your face as you relished the lively debates and the comforting presence of your beloved beside you on the engawa.
"I wish this happiness could last forever," you unintentionally let slip.
Your voice faltered as you realized you had openly shared your thoughts. Averting your gaze, you quietly cursed yourself. You were normally better at silencing your reflections, especially when it came to subjects that could involve contemplation of your potentially shortened lifespans. Maybe the carefree atmosphere of the night had made you more vulnerable and unguarded with your emotions.
Kyojuro turned his gleaming ember eye towards you with a gentle smile as he took your hand in his.
"That will be the case, my love. This happiness will still burn bright, even long after our departure; our dear ones possess the willpower to sustain its flame. As for us, let's not fret about whether or not we will survive beyond the predictions. I intend to savor every moment I have with you, whether it spans a few years or decades. And whatever the outcome, I am confident that we will continue our story in our next life. One lifetime has never been enough to show you how much I love you, anyway."
Widening your eyes, you scrutinized Kyojuro attentively, only to find that he was gazing back at you with a knowing grin, as if you both shared a secret. Had he learned about Genjuro and Oai feelings for each other too? Did he suspect, like you, that they were your past incarnations?
Reflecting his expression, you smiled back at your husband. You chose not to inquire about whether he also retained memories of the Sengoku era. The tale of your ancestors was already etched in history, more tragic than joyful, while the path to a brighter future lay ahead. It was sufficient to believe that your soulmate would keep his promise, accompanying you for as long as possible, in this life and the next.
Author Note: I need a meme of Shinjuro contemplating his life choices while Kanoko and Kyojuro wreak havoc on the house with their loud sex life lmao. The poor man just can't catch a break.
This chapter was a very different than what I usually write, focusing mostly on fluff, humor, and happy scenes, with just a hint of angst at the end – hopefully, the right amount, concluding on a sweet note. Similar to Gotouge's approach in the official manga, I've left it open to your imagination whether the Marked (and Kanoko) had their lives cut short or not. I'm sure they were happy until the end in both cases.
As always, if I made a cultural mistake, please feel free to point them out. I conducted as much research as possible, but in the end, I'm neither Japanese nor a specialist in the topics covered here, lol.
There were some details I wanted to add, but they didn't fit the story's pace. Perhaps they'll find a place in a Bonus section along with other cut or dumped scenes. I did manage to say some stuff about Kanoko appearance here, which I kind of forgot to include earlier despite the fact that it was planned a long time ago. Let's see how it will go with the edited version I'd like to do later on.
Do you have any questions? Is there an AU of this fic that you would wish to see? (like an alternative ending, an different path, hidden or extra scenes, spin-offs with the same characters, etc.) Say it in the comment section or reach out to me directly! I might write some bonus chapters if inspiration strikes, so share your dreams! lol. I also want to highlight that if you want to write or make some art about this story yourselves then, you're welcome to do so, please link it to me <3.
Also, let me express again how happy I was receiving your likes, noticing your reblogs and reading/replying to your comments <;3 Your support fueled my motivation and set my own heart ablaze!
Hi Erika! Sending you lots of positive vibes and much love! Also a couple of questions for you for your new ask game:
Demon Slayer or My Hero Academia?
Tanjiro Kamado or Asta?
Zenitsu x Nezuko or Finral x Finesse? (Flirty Guy x Sweet Girl pairings hehe🥰)
Mist Breathing or Love Breathing? (In honor of the new KNY season)
Thank you so much, friend! Cheers!! 💖
Thank you for the vibes, Acacia, they are must appreciated... 💖
Now, to answer your questions!
Show: Demon Slayer. Hngh... I still have a fondness for MHA but for the earlier arcs. The current arc is just... dragging. I miss the simpler days when the students weren't expected to lead the front lines against the Villains. Okay yes, I know Demon Slayer has the same problem of having youths being the main fighters against dangerous foes, but it feels different. I don't know how to explain it, it just does. Also, the way the two medias handle the whole "the enemy is hurt" thing is done better in KnY. When Tanjirou is fighting, he's thinking of fighting and of how cruel demons are for the evil they commit. But once they're defeated and Tanjirou can let his guard down, he softly watches them pass and laments their tragedy (Rui and the Upper Moon 6 siblings in particular). But then Ochaco is in the middle of drowning on Himiko's Twice copies and she's like "I like seeing people happy so I notice when they cry." Like, my child, your life in on the line right now; stop the sympathy and kick some butt right now.
Character: (frantically looks between my two boys like I'm in a burning house and I can only save one) Girl no, this is too mean!/lh I'm sorry Asta. I'm sorry baby boy, I do love you but Tanjirou is who I pick today. Tanjirou is just... a little less yell-y compared to Asta. The boys both share an ability to touch the hearts of others and while I do love how Asta inspires the Bulls and other characters to change, I prefer how Tanjirou inspires people while those characters still get to draw power from other places. Tengen is impressed by Tanjirou but it's his love for his wives and wish to be a better man that keeps him going against Upper Moon 6. Genya and Sanemi... Enough said. Kanao's change of heart was started by Tanjirou but ultimately, it's her bond with her sisters that pushes her through her final battle. I think it's lovely to see Tanjirou be one strengthening aspect to characters, like how everyone Tanjirou meets also strengthens him.
Ship: Ahsiuhfast! You're right! That got those base traits in common! UIehsrt! I think I'll have to pick Finral x Finesse this time around. I do love Zenitsu and Nezuko's wholesomeness. Zenitsu is a young lad in love and is so mushy-gushy about Nezuko. And she's there just kinda taking it in (her subconsciously remembering Zenitsu's sweetness though, that has me all kshasrtuisarht IT'S TOO CUTE DARN IT!) 😂. But Finral and Finesse is so... Ah! It's wholesome as well, since Finral's flirtatiousness doesn't really show around Finesse. It's a little stronger for me since Finesse isn't in a state like Nezuko. She can actively observe Finral and recognize what he's trying to do for her sake. And the fact that she doesn't judge him and simply encourages him as he tries his best. It's so sweet and lovely and ajshgiaushtr!
Other: Yes, in honor of the new KNY season! I pick Breath of Love (yes, I know that's not the actual terminology used in canon but it's what I adopted when I first started reading and while I usually adopt the terminology in canon material, not this time). Breath of Mist is a very cool (ha ha, because mist is... hah... you know...) breath style (oh my gosh the way it was animated was a feast for the eyes) but I prefer Breath of Love for its uniqueness. The way Mitsuri fights is like she's doing a ribbon dance, light and graceful. But she's also in extreme control of her body when she fights. Also, Mitsuri canonically has the coolest weapon in canon which just adds to my love of her breath style.
I wanna share some of my demon slayer hcs about everyone's friendships in the school au i made bc i wanna write a fic about how tanjiro and inosuke meet there:
Zenitsu and Tanjiro met in middle school, when zenitsu and his grandpa moved to the town, they loved the bread for the kamado's bakery and since tanjiro and zenitsu were the same age it was the typical 'you'll get along well' and tanjiro being a sweetheart agreed to hang out
Tanjiro's father passed away when he was 12 and he being the oldest son took it really bad, zenitsu was really worried about him and after some time of grief he made the promise to never make tanjiro feel sad and always avoid any conflict with him
the school staff is aware of his situation, so while they encourage tanjiro to do his best, they are not really harsh on him, which is not hard considering the hardworking and compassionate kid he is
Tanjiro sort of always knew zen intentions and feelings towards nezuko, and bc of his big brother instinct he tried to never let nezuko join their plans cause 'BOYZ ONLY'
Hisa e inosuke daily life - how they met and how he is getting a costumed to the life outside the forest / music therapy
Sessions of him being homeschool and also joining some activities in the social/cultural community services to allow him to interact with other people in a safe environment before classes start - he met a few kids there that were a bit younger than him and easily befriended them, kids are less likely to judge when he was learning to read and write and were fascinated by his stories on the wild (some of tanjiro s siblings were there/kinda like summer camp?)
Inosuke is reclusive at first, but Tanjiro being Tanjiro knew how when you try to isolate yourself is difficult to embrace and truly enjoy your life, and he makes it a challenge to befriend this wild (and kind of pretty now that he thinks about it?) guy
When tanjiro first approaches him inosuke takes it as a fight for the determination on tanjiro face, but the bell stops their meeting and they go to the classroom (same one)
kanao and genya are part of their friend group, aoi is more shy and is there occasionally, likes to hang out with the little girls more, nezuko and kanae are friends too
Hashiras same as the school au (im lazy to write that)
Inosuke and nezuko are besties, they actually met before school as nezuko was the one in charge of picking up their siblings and they always told her stories about him, she is really patient and sees him as a weird mix of younger sibling and best friend
Inozuke and zenitsu are frenemies, kinda like baljeet and Buford but less romantic
Zenitsu didn't wanted to include inosuke in their group but everyone else was ok with it, they were all the 'new kid' at some point
Inosuke and tanjiro spend a lot of time together since he is the one that has more patience towards him, everyone but the two of them knew the actual reason (while everyone else were expecting to one of them to actually confess)
A Fiery Braid || Kyojuro Rengoku x reader
Tumblr media
Summary: After Kanao braids your hair, the Flame Hashira wants to try a new hairstyle too.
Warnings: none
Words: 1823
Request: braiding Rengoku's hair.
Authors: Cass & Grizzly
Tumblr media
Kyōjurō Rengoku walked around the common room of the Butterfly Estate, waiting for new orders. He had been there for a few hours that felt like an eternity to him; he preferred to remain active rather than sit still. Even so, he wasn't going anywhere; Kyōjurō had one more reason to stay. You were that reason.
You were attractive; your hair was always neatly braided, perfect skin was glowing. Whenever he was close to you, your curious Y/E/C eyes studied his every movement, leading him to assume that you were also a little interested in him. On that day, he saw you again; you had been talking to Kanao.
Kyōjurō was a little shocked when he noticed you and the young girl vanished when he only turned his head around after smelling freshly made onigiri. Young man decided to look after you.
You went to have tea with Kanao. Despite being so quiet, she didn't cause you much trouble. She always wanted to spend time with you.
You sat on a porch, drinking tea made by Aoi. Even though you loved being here, your time was running out. You had almost fully healed your broken ribs, wrist injury, and broken leg as well.
In an attempt to flip the coin, Kanao put away her cup. As it landed on her palm, the girl gave you a soft smile. “So would it be okay if I showed you a new braid I can make? Girls have taught me."
Your eyes widened in surprise. "Of course I don't mind. Just let me lose my hair." Saying this, you loosened the ribbons holding your hairstyle together and ran fingers through your hair.
Kanao put away the cups and tray during the meantime. After that, she moved closer to pull your long hair to the back so she could start working.
Little did you know that you were being watched by a pair of Kyōjurō's sharp eyes. You were drinking freshly brewed tea in one of the rooms when he noticed you. Why was he not asked if he wanted a cup as well? Suddenly, Kyōjurō leapt up and peered inside the chamber. "Ladies, good morning. Do you mind if I join you?"
You both stared at him.
Kanao didn't react at all, she was too focused on your hair.
Naturally, you bowed your head as much as you could to show your respect. Both of you were slayers, but let's be honest, you were much lower than Hashira. "Flame Hashira, good morning to you as well. I don't mind it and I am sure Kanao doesn't mind as well."
Kyōjurō Rengoku stepped in slowly, looking around for a free spot.
As he sat down on one of the pillows on the floor, he crossed his legs and watched you. "It is rumored that you are going to leave us soon, Y/N."
You nodded gently so as not to disturb Kanao's work. "My injuries are almost healed. I may be able to leave in a few days. I hope I won't be back here anytime soon... As a patient, I mean."
He whispered quietly, but repeated louder this time, "What a shame it will be that you will no longer be among us."
“I'm not skilled. I just do what I can to keep people safe. But thank you for your kind words. That means a lot." You smiled at him.
While he nodded, he remained in a strange state of thoughtfulness. "Are you planning anything?" He asked.
“It's been a while since I got any orders. If that doesn't change by the end of my treatment, I think I'll visit my own home for a bit," you shrugged a little. You added, "If my crow will bring orders. I think I'll be running after yet another demon."
"So it was your crow who stole my onigiri a few days ago!" He laughed softly.
"Did it have a dark blue sash?" You asked.
Rengoku nodded and touched a pair of chopsticks on the table in front of him to improve their position. "Indeed. Your friend is ill-mannered."
Embarrassed by your crow behavior, you blinked and blushed.
Although you knew that your crow's nature was not so benevolent and that it loved snacks, you didn't expect this.
"Flame Hashira, please forgive me! I had no idea he was so mischievous! I didn't know! I'm so sorry!"
"I could have used a second form on him, but he seemed oddly tame. Watch him next time, Y/N."
"My apologies! I had no idea he could do something like this. I will scold him as soon as possible."
Kanao interrupted your little panic by putting the braid on your shoulder. You looked at it and gasped loudly, it was so beautiful. "Woho! It's perfect, Kanao! Thank you so much, I love it."
The girl smiled and once again flipped her coin. Once it landed back on her palm, she nodded. "I am glad you like it. I will now join others and leave you two alone." Soon, she left the room.
Kyōjurō nodded with a smile on his face. "Your braid is very beautiful, Y/N. It suits you very well."
"Thank you. I braid my hair so they don't bother me while working." You nodded, stroking your hair.
“Isn't it true that a fabulous look always adds some spirit?" He smiled. "I guess Senjuro would like your crow pet."
"Yes, it does! I feel so much more comfortable knowing my hair looks nice and doesn't bother me," You nodded. "You mean your younger brother, right? I don't think he would like my crow since he loves to steal food."
"My little brother is almost as optimistic as I am so I am certain he would easily notice the positive aspects of the pet crow you have."
"Maybe," you replied. The crows belonging to other slayers seem calm and polite, but this one is really mischievous."
"I think it depends on the crow's personality. They're a lot like humans."
"Unfortunately I got hungry and rude." You sighed deeply, playing with your braid.
"You can always train him," Kyōjurō said as he looked at you. "I like your braid a lot. Could you please make me one?"
The blinked, completely overshadowed his question. "I-I… Sure. Your hair is long enough to make a decent braid. It won't be as long as mine though.”
As he gestured for you to approach, he undid the bun he had made. "I'd like to try that!"
As you continued to be surprised by his question, you got up and moved closer to sit next to him. Maybe it was silly, but honestly, you were scared of his hair. What if you burned your hands on it? Nevertheless, you moved your hand gently through the hair to ensure there were no tangles.
"Did you learn from a master or were you self-taught?"
"My father was a demon slayer. He was my master until he retired from fighting because of his wounds." You said, brushing his hair with your fingers before you started gently braiding them.
Kyōjurō nodded slowly as he listened to your story. "I trained to become a Hashira. It might have been easier for me since I am part of the Rengoku family and our lineage is filled with powerful swordsmen."
"I know, I heard a lot about your family." You nodded, gently braiding his hair.
"Just! I would like them to be braided as neatly as yours. Your braid is very beautiful."
Your skilled fingers collected strands of his hair and worked them.
I promise to do my best. I love your hair, sir, but I was sure they were hot since they looked like fire." You giggled, pulling back another strand of his hair.
A quiet hiss came from him. "Ough!" He then winked at you as he rolled his head back. "Don't worry, just kidding."
You told him, "Please, don't do that. I'm scared to pull your hair."
"You're not dealing with any demon here, it's just hair!" Flame Hashira reminded you in the soft tone of his.
"I'm braiding the hair of a Fire Pillar. It's terrifying on its own," you hummed, tying the strands together. "Could you pass me the ribbing in which your hair was tied up before?"
You received the item from him shortly after. Grabbing the end of the braid and tying it tightly to make sure your work wouldn't fall apart, you thanked him quietly. "It looks great."
To check the braid, he jolted up and rushed to the nearest mirror. The final result incorporated all of the hair into a smoothly woven pattern over the scalp. A smile spread across Rengoku's face as he said, "I love it!"
You smiled and clapped your hands. "I am so glad to hear that!"
“Maybe I can return the favor by taking you out for onigiri?” Rengoku asked, turning his head to you.
You stared at him again, surprised. Was he just... inviting you to dinner? "Of course. This sounds wonderful!"
Flame Hashira smiled at you with a small sparkle in his eye.
You smiled and followed him to the kitchen to grab a few onigiris.
After that, you two proceeded to sit on a porch. At first, you were afraid of Hashira, but now you were relaxed as if you were talking with a good friend.
As you held the onigiri in your hands, a craw wearing a navy blue sash jumped on your shoulder and simply grabbed the onigiri.
You blinked. "Hey!”
Rengoku chuckled. "That guy is rude," he said. "Or hungry. Hunger is the most unpleasant feeling a living being can experience."
He carefully examined one of his onigiris. Then, after a moment's hesitation, he opened his palm and extended his hand out to the crow, with onigiri in it.
Clearly, the crow couldn't resist the snack. The crow quickly swallowed it and spread his wings.
"CRAW CRAW! I brought an order! Order! A village where people go missing! Demons attack!"
Rengoku's crow joined you two soon, as well.
"North! North! The village in the north needs help! People are going missing. Y/N will join Flame Hashira to take care of the threat!”
"Huh?!” You gasped, shocked with the information.
Rengoku's lips curled in a little smirk as he nodded, getting up. "The order was passed. I think we need to hit the road. There are some demons that need to be slayed!"
"I just need a moment to gather my stuff," you nodded and then looked at your crow. "And you! You shouldn't just steal people's food!"
Crow definitely felt offended and just pecked you on the temple before flying away.
"So it's rudeness that runs in his little veins!" Rengoku chuckled softly and nodded at his own crow. "Get ready, Y/N. The duty is calling!"
"Yes, Rengoku-san!” You nodded excitedly and ran off to gather your things.
Why did Douma kill Kotoha after she insulted him and ran away from him? Did he view her as a possession like " if you can't be mine then you can't be nobody else's"? Did he think she couldn't live without him since he said that "she couldn't do anything on her own"? He also said that she'd get beaten up again by her husband if she went back home, but according to the taisho rumors Douma had already killed her husband so he was lying. Did he lie to look better or was he trying to justify himself?
Hello! Based off the manga no I wouldn’t say his reasoning was “I killed her because I wanted her to be only mine.” None of his behavior or how he talks about Kotoha indicates that he viewed her that way. He did think that she couldn’t live without him, or at least someone to support her and since her husband was an abuser Douma seemed to assume that she would end up going into another abusive relationship.
Tumblr media
So in that way he did justify himself because he thought he was “saving her” from a continually miserable life. The fact that he didn’t outright tell Inosuke and Kanao that he killed Kotoha’s abuser is curious to me though because that would be an easy way to try to make himself look good (it doesn’t mean they would believe him or feel grateful or anything) but it would make sense for his character and it’s also an easy way to justify himself as a “savior” and get further offended when they stay mad at him. He left it out though and that’s curious to me.
One of the other reasons I think he used to justify killing her is that issue of him being a demon who is a religious leader/cult leader eating his followers. A lot of his followers would have seen Kotoha and Inosuke with him. Not only that but he clearly favored her, I mean she’s literally sitting at the foot of his chair/shrine.
Tumblr media
 This would have played a role in him deciding to kill her as well because if she ran into the village and started telling people what was going on some of them could have believed her, or even if they didn’t believe her it wouldn’t take long for that information to reach a Demon Slayer and then Douma suddenly has a much bigger workload and stuff he has to deal with. With that in mind it would be easier to kill her because she can’t tell anybody if she’s dead. Also, Kotoha didn’t just accuse him of being a liar but also cursed him for what he was doing. Kotoha doing that made it clear that Douma wouldn’t have been able to get her to accept what he was doing or ignore it, even if he did give her a convincing lie, she had established she wasn’t going to believe him. For him that justifies killing her because she “gave him no choice”.
The fact that Douma literally states that “I didn’t intend to eat her. I planned to keep her alive until her lifespan ran out.” For me really solidifies that if Kotoha had responded differently when she found out, or had been willing to listen to him explain and try to understand the situation Douma wouldn’t have posed a threat to her or Inosuke. I mean there is no way she would, but it’s just really interesting how Kotoha was his exception to such an extreme extent, and not even just that he wouldn’t bother her but he was going to actively keep her alive. I’ve stated before it’s because he views her in the way a person views a pet but it’s still just interesting that Douma who didn’t even care when his mother and father were killed as a human, as a demon was like “No, this human woman and her baby get to live a good long life and I’m making sure of that.”
And I can’t call it sweet because Douma did view her as a pet and I still don't really trust what he would claim he feels emotionally towards someone but I find that choice really interesting, especially when you consider how different he and Kotoha were.
Reverse Demon Slayer AU
a/n: a demon slayer au my friend and i were talking abt a bunch last week and i wanted to share it with you guys :))
like literally the au is just the demon slayers are the demons and the demons are the demon slayers it's prob been done before but still here it is besties (the hashiras turn into the 12 kizuki, the trainers are like the ex-kizuki members [like kyogai])
Genre/Warnings: Demon shit, body horror, just kinda creepy stuff cause the demons in Demon Slayer look busted most of the time, mentions of blood, gore, mentions of violence/death, religious stuff (gyomei)
~Giyuu Tomioka~
-Stays in the forest near a lake
-His voice echoes, kinda like how a siren's would. Since his voice is very calming and can go pretty far out, it lures a lot of people into his lake
-Blood Demon Art: Can create "reflections" of the demon slayers he's fighting out of the water in his lake. Every hit they land on Giyuu's version of them just goes straight through it since it's made of water but it's able to actually hurt the slayer (basically giyuu just makes little water minion to do his bidding)
-Would be very attached to the demon who turned him (which is Urokodaki) and would be absolutely livid if anyone managed to kill him
-After your encounter with an ex-kizuki member, you started hearing a strange voice echoing through the forest in front of you. Mistaking the man's calls as cries for help, you venture further into the forest not knowing you were walking into your death.
~Shinobu Kocho~
-Her eyes look just like a fly's, but instead of red they're purple
-Has pincers on the sides of her face
-Blood Demon Art: Can spit acid up to 5 feet (like an assassin bug) and if she manages to bite you, she can inject venom into your bloodstream with her freak ass bug tongue (like an ant)
~Sanemi Shinazugawa~
-The top half of his outfit would be tied around his waist (like how Susamaru had hers)
-The scars on his body would become mouths, and each mouth also has a voice so whenever Sanemi speaks it's like there are several voices speaking at the same time
-Blood Demon Art: Can literally take the their from a person's lungs and suffocate them. A demon slayer can't use their breathing technique if they can't breathe, right?
-Doesn't wash the blood off his clothes and he keeps the swords of the slayers he kills as trophies
~Tengen Uzui~
-Each dot on his face tattoo would become more eyes
-His three wives would change every so often because they're kidnapped female demon slayers
-Blood Demon Art: If he gets even the tiniest cut anywhere on his body, he'll be able to emit an incredibly high pitched sound to disorient his opponent
~Muichiro Tokito~
-Blood Demon Art: Creates a mist that, when inhaled, fogs the person's memory; making them forget what they were doing completely so he can easily attack them
-Honestly, he thinks killing the Hashiras Muzan sends after him is a chore, so he usually stays in the Infinite Fortress
-When he does go out though, he doesn't stay in one place for too long so he can avoid the demon slayers as much as possible. He doesn't want to waste energy on killing low level children
~Obanai Iguro~
-Pretty much a naga, the bottom half of his body is a serpent's tail
-Can unhinge his jaw to take some big ass fucking bites out of people
-His eyes can look in two different directions at the same time, making it hard for slayers to land a good hit on him
~Mitsuri Kanroji~
-Main territory is the red light district, she lures men into her little place and eats them
-Blood Demon Art: Similar to how Tamayo can force someone to tell the truth using her demon art, Mitsuri is able to attract people to her. No one wants to hurt the person they're attracted to, so it would make it easy for her to kill them.
-The prettiest demon Hashira by far, pretty much everyone else looks like some horrible grotesque creature
-She always tries to keep the clothes of the men she kills clean so she can give them to the girls in her house. Even if they are human, she still cares for them greatly
-Is the cleanest demon Hashira as well. She doesn't like making a mess of her room just to clean it up right after
-Mitsuri also likes to try different recipes with the men she eats. Having them raw just isn't as fun as cooking them herself
~Kyojuro Rengoku~
-Blood Demon Art: Similar to Esidisi from JJBA, he can make his blood boil. When the slayer manages to get a hit on him, his blood would splash on them and burn through anything it touched. The temperature of his blood is on par with lava
-Looks the most human out of pretty much all the demons, but something just seems very off about him
-When you're fighting him, he's stone faced until he gets bored of you. His smile just looks way too big for his face, and the amount of teeth in his mouth are far beyond what it should be
-Doesn't have eyelids so he literally never blinks
~Gyomei Himejima~
-Would be dressed as a traditional Buddhist priest/monk
-He kills demon slayers to "help them atone for their sins"
-Main method of killing would be using his rosary to choke them out, sometimes since he doesn't really know his own strength their heads pop off
-He cries blood instead of tears
-Blood Demon Art: Can make his blood as hard as diamond so the demon slayer would be unable to cut him on the first try, so he would be able to take advantage of their shock and kill them
~Tanjiro Kamado~
-Blood Demon Art: Just the same as Nezuko's, since they're siblings and all that
-He had come from a family of demon slayers, and after getting turned into one himself they all tried to kill him (except for Nezuko)
-Wears a muzzle only when Nezuko is around other demon slayers. They have to keep up a charade, but it's so hard to control himself sometimes and that's when the muzzle really helps
-His favorite part of the body is the heart. When he was human, everyone always saw him as kind and innocent but when he was turned he was seen as the complete opposite. He hopes that consuming the hearts of other people will return his old kind-hearted personality
~Nezuko Kamado~
-Nezuko followed in her parent's footsteps by joining the demon slayer corps, but instead of trying to find a cure for her brother she gets information and passes it to Tanjiro and the demon Hashiras.
-Nezuko ended up taking Tanjiro away from the bloody ruins of their home, and on their way down the mountain they ran into Giyuu who instructed them to go to Urokodaki so Tanjiro would be safe
-Has killed demon slayers who have seen her interacting with the demon Hashiras. She has to keep her record clean to climb the ranks and to help Tanjiro at the same time
~Zenitsu Agatsuma~
-Would lure people into a trap by guilt tripping them into being alone with him
-"Could you please help me? I lost my gramps, but I can't see him anywhere. Will you help me find him?" and then they'd get bodied
-Always avoids killing innocent people or new demon slayers. He feels so bad for taking their lives away from them, but sometimes he just can't help it
-He'll style the female demon slayers hair after he kills them so they can be just as pretty as they were in life when they get to Heaven
~Inosuke Hashibira~
-The boar mask would become his actual head
-Instead of duel wielding swords, they would be some big ass fangs that he swings around to impale demon slayers
-Inosuke fights dirty. He'll snap his jaws at you and laugh hysterically when he manages to take a chunk out of your arm
-Actively seeks out demon slayers to kill. He never kills regular people because they don't put up a good enough fight for him
-Eats every part of the body, including the bones
~Misc Characters~
-Kanae was a spider-esque demon and cocooned people in her webs to feed a young Shinobu and Kanao until she was killed
-Kanao was human-turned-demon by the sisters
-Urokodaki is an ex-kizuki member and all of his trainees are now the demons in the Final Selection
-the Fox Children, led by Urokodaki, are merciless to any wannabe slayer that comes into their forest looking to make it out alive. Most of the demon slayers that make it out are nearly dead or had ran straight through, not even trying to get a kill
-the Fox Children wear the masks because their faces are incredibly fox-like (think like, mid transition animorphs cover)
-Nobody knows what Urokodaki's face looks like, but based on his mask that's for the best
~General Stuff~
-In this au, the demons actually stick together and the demon slayers work alone which makes the Hashira Kizuki way fucking scarier than they already were
-And because these demons work together, they're all going to hold grudges against certain demon slayers
-When Kanae was killed, the demon Hashira went apeshit, especially Gyomei. Pairing his strength and horrible blinding rage at the fact his coven lost a very important member, every slayer he kills within the first year of Kanae's death die in horrible ways.
-Imagine following the directions your dove gave you to an old, overgrown sanctuary secluded in the mountains. The moonlight does little to illuminate your surroundings, but one thing you do see is the mangled body of your fellow demon slayer hanging from a tree. The only thing keeping them together is their spinal cord, and the impossibly large hand holding their head to a branch.
-The Hashiras are all extremely savage and violent, rarely ever sparing a human life. (sometimes Shinobu or Kanao might feel bad and spare a small child or elderly person, but other than that nobody is safe)
-Crows would service the demons, and doves would service the demon slayers. Everyone is always wary around crows because nobody knows whether that particular one belongs to a demon or not
Word count: 4069
Pairing: Hashibira Inosuke x Reader
Warnings: fluff, slight spice (things get a bit heated here UwU) idk, slight angst, SPOILERS FOR THE KIMETSU MANGA
Tumblr media
Zenitsu had a question plaguing his mind ever since (y/n) (l/n) came into his life. Not that he didn’t try wooing her and asking her to marry him, no, she turned him down rather decently and kindly, which forced him to think of her as a good friend. She was a demon slayer herself, having hailed from the same training that Kanao went through.
As sweet and loving as she was, (y/n) could be just as violent; albeit, Zenitsu and the gang had only seen this side when she fought demons. Her violence was through a silent battle that she knew she would win, and her swordplay was fascinating to the eye. Her mother was a dancer, somewhat similar to Tanjiro’s father, and her mother had taught her everything she needed to know about dance.
However, life wasn’t too kind. (y/n) lost her mother when she was 12 and had been training under Shinobu to become a demon slayer since. She had learned the breath of the flower from Shinobu, but developed her own style scheme by performing different moves through dance. It was, to say the least, impressive.
(y/n) and Inosuke shared a rather weird relationship.
The first time they met was in between their missions. All four of them were surrounded by a total of seven demons. Inosuke stepped in wanting to be the one to take down everyone, but quietly, (y/n) held him back (almost yelled at but the second Inosuke’s gaze met hers, he grew strangely quiet, which was unlike him).
     “We need to plan this out. When you’re cornered, you don’t attack head-on. That’s suicide.”
She turned to Inosuke’s mask and grinned, “You’re better alive than dead, right?”
Zenitsu didn’t miss the fuwa fuwa that came out of his boar friend right then, but he was shitting his pants for something else entirely. It was after that did she introduce herself, rather peppily, and seemed like the most happy-go-lucky person they had ever laid their eyes on. Inosuke seemed particularly soft with her, which was very unlike him, but no one made any comment about it.
     “So Inosuke, why did you become a demon slayer?” (y/n) asked, with a chirpy voice.
Zenitsu and Tanjiro watched as the white puffballs around Inosuke grew in number but the male grunted and walked away, leaving (y/n) there with a confused but happy smile.
     “What happened?”
Zenitsu hit himself on the forehead.
The thing that Zenitsu’s mind was plagued with was this: How would Inosuke behave if he was in love with someone?
For this, he’d need to understand how animals behaved. When an animal finds a potential mate, the male of the species would perform a series of activities in order to impress the female of the species. Like, in birds, the male bird would perform a wide range of dance moves or hops to impress the female, who would display her interest by signalling in and chirping accordingly.
Cut to what they were doing a few weeks ago. They were at the butterfly estate, all four of them, and Tanjiro and (y/n) were talking about him selling charcoal for a living. She was a good listener, and for Tanjiro, it was nice to be heard for a change. Perhaps, in Inosuke’s mind, Tanjiro was another male boar, showcasing his skills (Zenitsu wondered if ‘kindness’ can count as a skill) and (y/n) was considering him. Inosuke however, had a better skill—brisk loudness, and the ability to have anyone’s eye on him for longer durations of time because he was just that distracting.
     “(y/n)!”
Ah yes, he also never forgot her name for a strange reason, but she only thought that was because he didn’t deem her a threat.
(y/n) were right, in a way.
She turned her head toward Inosuke who was holding his two swords near the courtyard. Zenitsu stood a few feet away from where (y/n) and Tanjiro sat, and watched with an unimpressed expression on his face. This wasn’t amusing in the slightest for the blond, for he had seen men pile up over women and behave in a way they otherwise wouldn’t do. But, in Inosuke’s case, it was definitely...weird.
Upon receiving (y/n)’s attention, Inosuke flipped his blades around in the air and did a few stunts, causing (y/n)’s eyes to widen with absolute amusement. Tanjiro smiled a tad bit, before turning to a disgruntled Zenitsu, and understanding thus what was going on.
     “Whoa, that’s amazing, Inosuke!” (y/n) said, clapping her hands together.
Tanjiro noticed the white fluff balls come out of the boar boy’s head as his actions suddenly stopped. He might have been raised an animal, but Tanjiro’s heart melted at the realization that Inosuke craved the feelings of attention and kindness from people around him, just as much as he wanted to prove himself superior. Inosuke felt a range of things with the two of them, but with (y/n), he certainly felt softer. And whatever the reason might be, Tanjiro believed his friend deserved it—the boy was pure at heart.
Coming back to the theory Zenitsu had. Tanjiro approached the boy that evening before having a quick word with him over Inosuke’s obsession with impressing you. Both of them knew that it was more than a crush, but it was also quite out of character. While Tanjiro could swallow Inosuke’s need to be softer with her, Zenitsu thought Inosuke believed it was a competition.
     “Well,” Tanjiro pondered, “It might be, in his head. That was how he was raised and that’s how he thinks? Maybe, if we don’t prove a threat to him, he’ll learn better on understanding how to communicate his feelings.”
Zenitsu scoffed, “That idiot won’t know what feelings are if it hit him on his face like a brick. He thinks like an animal!”
Tanjiro chuckled, “Doesn’t mean animals can’t love,” He turned to spot Inosuke and (y/n) in an animated conversation about butterflies, “Most often, they love better than the rest of us.”
Therefore, the two of them decided to watch Inosuke. Zenitsu did it for his own amusement, but Tanjiro enjoyed merely understanding his friend’s nature. There were three things that Inosuke had to fall under if he were in love with (y/n)—and this was all based on observation. Tanjiro knew how animals thought and behaved to a fair extent, and with his knowledge, analysing Inosuke’s behavior around her seemed like the perfect study.
#1. One mate is territorial over the other.
Zenitsu approached (y/n) one evening, wanting to call her over for dinner. She turned to the blond before waving at him, and having him sit beside her.
     “Hi, Zenitsu-kun. Is there something you need?”
He wondered where his boar friend was at that second. There was no point to this exercise if Inosuke wasn’t around. Not that he minded having a conversation with (y/n), she was sweet. He turned to her after realizing Inosuke wasn’t around and wondered what she thought of him.
     “So, Inosuke,” She blinked at his words, “He’s weird, right?”
     “Not at all. I think he’s really sweet.”
Zenitsu blinked, “Really? Even though he doesn’t understand a lot of social cues? It’s because he was raised in the mountains—”
     “I find that bit fascinating, actually. Even though he was raised in the mountains, he’s so kind.”
     “How is he kind?” Zenitsu grumbled.
(y/n) blinked at the blond’s question.
     “Do you...not like Inosuke-kun?”
Zenitsu shook his head, “It’s not like that, I just think he’s too much sometimes. Abrasive and rash—it’s like taking care of a loud kid!”
She giggled, “I like that about him! Keeps things lively.”
Zenitsu wasn’t sure now on who the weird one was. With (y/n) defending Inosuke like her life depended on it, it was certain that even she had a soft spot for the boy. But, he couldn’t tell if it was built out of sympathy or romantic feelings like he had. She was just kind, maybe, she defended Zenitsu behind his back (although this thought made him swoon on the inside).
     “Where is he anyway?” (y/n) grumbled, frowning a bit.
It was at that second when Tanjiro came to the courtyard. (y/n) greeted the brown haired boy before blinking up at him.
     “Tanjiro-kun, have you seen Inosuke-kun?”
Tanjiro hummed before saying, “Hm, I think he left with Kanao-chan somewhere?”
Zenitsu ‘ah’ed before understanding where the boar boy had gone now. Kanao and Inosuke had been training together for a bit, it wasn’t strange since Inosuke always wanted to get stronger than the others. With Tanjiro having beaten Kanao in that little game, Inosuke wanted to do the same. The boy thought everything was a competition.
     “Oh?”
Tanjiro almost didn’t notice it, but it was good that he was great at capturing certain scents. Growing up with so many siblings had him understand how to differentiate between the scents of various emotions. When (y/n) stood up, waved to them and left, Tanjiro chuckled, catching Zenitsu’s attention. He wasn’t always certain about a lot of things, but he was sure that he had caught the right scent here.
     “What’s so funny?”
It was the scent of jealousy, he thought before shaking his head.
#2.  One mate tries to impress the other by being the best they can be.
Zenitsu hated missions, and he especially hated them when he had to go with Inosuke. However, the only thing holding his sanity together was that (y/n) had offered to tag along—since her crow was nowhere to be found. Inosuke was thrilled and secretly so was the blond, because now Inosuke seemed controllable. He didn’t know how it worked, but he was glad that it did.
They were to head to a village to find a demon behind a few missing people. Apparently, these people headed to work one day and never returned—and this being near a river, there were chances that this demon resided under water.
     “Can you swim, (y/n)-chan?”
     “Yes, actually. I didn’t learn it the easy way, though. Shinobu-san basically threw me into the river and forced me to learn the hard way.” She said, dejectedly.
     “When you’re about to drown, your body learns to float!” Inosuke yelled, catching your attention.
     “Y-Yeah, I mean, I was the first one to learn too! Inosuke, I also know what plants you can eat from under water!”
     “You can eat underwater plants?!”
     “Yes! I’ll show you someday! When they’re added into your food, it’s so delicious!”
He couldn’t understand where the fuwa fuwa was coming from now—Zenitsu noticed that the fluffballs were everywhere. He wasn’t sure which mate was trying to impress the other here.
Tanjiro, Zenitsu thought, who exactly is the animal here?
He normally never did this, but Zenitsu was curious beyond belief! Therefore, he shut his eyes, paused for a brief moment and let his ears do the detective work. All he could hear were sounds of two hearts fluttering in harmony, an image stuck to his brain that he couldn’t wipe off (and if he was a softer, more mature individual, he would admit that the image was a rather sweet one), but Zenitsu being Zenitsu hated the fact that his mountain boy friend was in love with a sweet crackhead like (y/n)—who in retaliation was in love with a mountain boy as well.
#3. A manner of softness not seen anywhere else.
It was strange to see Inosuke being quiet—it was either only when he was in deep sleep or deep thought (which was very, very rare indeed). However, the mountain boy grew quiet a lot these days; especially because (y/n) hung out a lot whenever the boys were around. He’d watch her, observing her movements, trying to replicate whatever ‘decent’ moves she made like trying to eat with chopsticks or not wearing the mask as much when she’s around.
In all honestly, it was quite evident that Inosuke tried being a human being around her and it was sweet, Tanjiro noted, that he’d try so hard to accommodate to (y/n).
However, Zenitsu didn’t think it was sweet. He wanted to vomit inside his mouth each time he thought of the boar boy being in love, particularly because it was the sort of love that was rare even for civilized people. The blond always had trouble finding people who accepted him for being who he was, and here was someone like Inosuke—whose personality was somehow revered instead of being shunned.
What the hell is going on? He thought, grumbling, as he witnessed (y/n) crawl over to Inosuke, as if to sneak up on the boy. Normally, Zenitsu would have yelled and alerted his friend, but he just didn’t care anymore—it was comical, and he’d let it be.
     “Inosuke!” (y/n) pounced on the boar boy from the back, tackling him to the ground, surprising him.
Inosuke blinked, his face a dark red, before screaming in playful anger.
     “What the hell are you doing?!”
     “Fight me!”
Inosuke’s eyes widened just for a brief moment before he growled and tackled her back, causing her to giggle and try to escape the boar boy’s advances. Now, he was chasing her around the estate, something little animals do when they play with one another. Tanjiro smiled at the sight before Zenitsu noticed fluffballs come around him.
I’ve had enough of this.
Walking over to his boar friend, he grabbed the boy from the back of his mask before yanking it off in one go. Inosuke would never mind beating the living daylight out of his blond friend, but the expression Zenitsu had just then caused him to still his movements. (y/n) paused before blinking up at Zenitsu, tilting her head slightly at the sudden halt.
     “Zenitsu-kun? Is something wrong?”
     “You two are what’s wrong!”
Inosuke growned, “What? You wanna—”
     “NO! I don’t want to fight! Do you honestly not see what’s going on here?!”
(y/n) giggled before saying, “Inosuke and I are just fooling around—”
     “I thought we were fighting—”
     “We are, but it isn’t a fight where we hurt each other.”
     “Yes! I was thinking the same thing!”
Zenitsu slapped his forehead. He pointed to Inosuke and then pointed to (y/n). Tanjiro approached them before placing a calm hand on his blond friend.
     “You are clearly in love with her and you are clearly in love with him!”
Inosuke didn’t look like he understood what Zenitsu had blurted out, but (y/n) was civilized where Inosuke wasn’t and just then Zenitsu had called her out rather harshly—but, it was the kind of harsh that was perhaps justified. Her eyes widened and she turned to spot Inosuke grab the blond and put him in a choke hold, but her movements stilled. She looked up to Tanjiro who gave her a kind smile before she bit her lip.
Of course she knew she loved Inosuke. Of course, she wasn’t blind. Ever since she first laid eyes on the beast boy, her mind was picked, her heart was his, and her body did things on its own—wanting to impress him, wanting to stand out and make sure Inosuke remembers her name instead of anyone else’s; she wanted to be special to him, and from all her tries, she was bound to know that her feelings for him were nothing short of romantic.
However, could he perceive romance? Could Inosuke know what these feelings were and could he act on them? Was she the only one making the effort here? She turned to spot Inosuke fighting with Zenitsu the same way he was fighting with her and she began to wonder, ‘What if I’m actually no different?’
Tanjiro smelled the sudden hesitance radiating off of her, but before she could get anywhere, he approached her.
     “(y/n)-chan, I’m sure Inosuke feels the same way—”
     “Tanjiro-kun,” (y/n) wasn’t sure where the sudden hesitance grew inside her. “I just... I need to figure some things out on my own before I...” She turned to spot Inosuke taking off his mask, growling at the blond.
She gave him a soft smile, confusing the hell out of him, before walking back inside the estate.
     “Where’s she going?” Inosuke asked, blinking at her retrieving figure.
Tanjiro turned to his friend, curious.
     “What do you feel for (y/n)-chan, Inosuke?”
     “HAH?”
     “That’s what I’ve been trying to get him to talk about! But he keeps tackling me!” Zenitsu yelled from the background.
     “What feel for her? She’s (y/n)!”
Tanjiro’s eyes widened almost comically at how Inosuke remembered her name so accurately.
     “Why do you remember her name so well?”
     “She’s important!”
Tanjiro blinked some more, “Important how?”
Inosuke growled, losing interest in this conversation, “(y/n) is...” He couldn’t find her and that bothered him. He looked to where she had gone off to before frowning some more.
     “Inosuke,” Tanjiro’s soft voice broke his reverie. “Do you love her?”
He didn’t know what love was, but there were a few things Inosuke was sure of. Whenever he saw (y/n), he wanted to be around her more—just like the pair of wolves he had come across as a child. The male wolf would wind its neck under the female’s whenever it was cold, and it was something Inosuke saw himself doing with her, and no one else. He remembered the swans dancing around in the water with one another, attaching themselves by every inch of their feathers and Inosuke wanted nothing more than to learn how her skin felt against his.
He recalled the group of monkeys that was led by a strong male and a fat female, which was fat because the male had given her his babies. One day, Inosuke dreamed of having little Inosuke babies with (y/n).
If this was what love was then what Inosuke felt for (y/n) was much, much more.
Growling, he ran off to where (y/n) might have gone, and noticed you sitting by the engawa. Taking off his mask, Inosuke sat beside her without warning, and noticed her red face. His eyes widened when he saw that expression on (y/n)—and all the thoughts he had were starting to vanish. Sure, the animals looked happy and did things he wanted to do, but no animal could compare to how beautiful she looked right then. He gulped before leaning closer to her, smelling her face—unsure of what to do at a time like this. Inosuke didn’t want to scare her, but he was confident that she would not be scared.
Zenitsu did not count a fourth thing that Inosuke would fall under if he was in love. The ability to change and adapt for a certain someone.
     “Inosuke, do you... do you know what love is?”
He didn’t, and he sure as hell was scared to tell her that he had no idea.
     “What I feel for you... I want to be around you all the time. I want to hold your hand and... and hold you in my arms and touch your hair—”
Inosuke grabbed (y/n)’s hand forcefully before placing it on his hair, but paused when he noticed her wince.
     “Did I hurt you?”
(y/n) smiled warmly, her heart beating rapidly as she shook her head, “I’m not sure if you know what love is, Inosuke...”
He frowned, “I don’t know what to tell you.”
He was an animal, born and raised in conditions that other people could have perhaps not survived. There was very little he knew about the ways of how human beings displayed affection. However, there was one way he was sure of—one way that could perhaps show her what he felt. Prove to her that whatever this love emotion was, it had nothing on him.
Because what Inosuke felt for (y/n) was far, far stronger than some stupid emotion.
He leaned forward and kissed her, grabbing the back of her hair. (y/n) had no idea where he had learned how to kiss, and even if he knew what this meant, but a second later, Inosuke’s tongue darted downwards to her neck, biting it lightly, marking the texture of her soft skin. His hand was firm behind her head and he pulled lightly, pressing her to him—before leaning back and capturing her lips again.
(y/n)’s eyes were wide and she was almost breathless; unsure of how to react, her hands slowly travelled to his hair and she buried her fingers in his hair, marvelling at how soft his locks were. She kissed back slowly, and did not miss the passion Inosuke brought forth with what he was doing. Once again, he pulled away before reaching her collarbone and biting lightly. The second (y/n) let out a soft moan, Inosuke stopped.
     “Do you feel warm?”
Her face rivalled a spider lily. Of course she felt warm!
Inosuke looked at her and smirked, “A male marks his female, in the mountains, this is how beasts mark their mates.”
(y/n)’s eyes widened. Mate? She blinked before grabbing his face and studying it, almost enthralled with what she had learned.
     “Inosuke, there is so much you need to learn!”
But, the second she thought of how his tongue travelled to her neck and collarbone, maybe, he didn’t have to learn much after all.
*
When Inosuke’s firstborn son turned out to be a bit timid, Inosuke acquired the ability—acting out on empathy. (y/n) watched him, hold his five-year old son after the boy had fallen off a small tree and hurt his knee.
     “This is going to sting,” Inosuke said, before putting some pressure on to the little boy’s wound, along with a raw medicine he had made to prevent any infection.
The boy cried instantly, which caused Inosuke to turn to (y/n), who was cradling their third born daughter, with a smile on her face. He wouldn’t reveal to a great many people that watching his son wince and cry hurt his chest more than anything ever had, but watching (y/n) smile back at him, as he sat there with a smile on his face made him appreciate everything that was soft in the world.
He had stopped asking people to fight him because honestly, it turned exhausting. After having three children, Inosuke had had enough—he wanted to mellow down and sit back, smell his wife’s hair and watch their children grow. He often wondered how Tanjiro and the others were doing, and he thought of how the life in the city was not one for him at all. He hoped that their paths would cross one day, but turning to (y/n), as their youngest daughter cooed in (y/n)’s arms, Inosuke was at peace.
     “What are you staring at!? Fight me!”
Inosuke narrowed his eyes and turned to his three-year old girl, whose expressions and personality rivalled his own. He heard (y/n) chuckle from the back before ignoring her and getting up, grabbing the little girl by her ankle and having her dangle upside down.
     “This—”
     “Stop it, runt.”
Oh, but he would not deny how much he adored that feisty little spirit of hers. She growled before pinching her father’s hold, causing him to abruptly let her go, as she landed on the ground with a ‘thud’. She got back up and rushed to her father, hands around his neck, Inosuke grumbling before picking her up. If only he had understood that his cries ‘fight me’ were a sign of being touch-starved, he’d have avoided a great many unnecessary fights.
     “Let me go—”
     “Shut up.”
Inosuke’s hand wrapped around his small daughter’s form before running it up and down on her back, calming her down. The child’s eyes widened before she quieted down, and returning her father’s embrace.
A small tug at his sleeve made him look at his son now, who gave him a needy look as well. Inosuke knelt down and picked up his boy, before hugging both of them, standing like a tree in the middle of the house.
     “Never thought you’d turn into such a softie, Inosuke!” (y/n) giggled, before expecting a shout or a loud comeback.
Instead, her eyes widened when she saw him smile at her, each hand cradling his children, as he watched her, with the softest eyes he could conjure.
Honestly, she could never let down the way he told her he loved her each day, not through words, not through mindless actions, but merely by looking at her like his entire life belonged to her. For a man raised in the mountains, Inosuke knew how to love better than the rest of humanity itself.
If only Zenitsu could see the man now, she thought, chuckling.
Tumblr media
Christmas was always an exciting time at the butterfly mansion. Naho, Kiyo, and Sunni all excitedly ran after Aoi, trying to help her with whatever they could. Kanao silently watched as they pulled everything out of a storage unit, smiling with childlike joy. You girlfriend- well, she was nowhere to be found. She disappeared like that sometimes, to god knows where, but you just kinda got used to it after a while, as she’s never gone for long. Blinking, you watched as Aoi came over to you with a string of lights. “Here, can you help me hang this?” She asked, watching as you took the cord with confusion.
“You guys hang lights in Japan?”
“What? Of course we do! It’s not like electricity was invented yesterday!”
You snickered at your own stupidity before sticking the metal light clip onto the step’s railing. Where you were from, it wasn’t very common for people to hang lights, as they were expensive, so it surprised you to see them decorating with them. You actually had never decorated with lights, being poor and all. You watched as Aoi climed a ladder and carefully clipped each light into place. It was interesting to watch, and eventually, Aoi went back over to you. “You’re taller than me, and I need to decorate inside. Can you please clip on the rest of those lights?” She asked. You nodded, making your way to the ladder and climbing up it. You were a little worried about it falling, since it was just barely leaning against the house, but no matter.
You did just as Aoi asked you, clipping each light into place before stepping off the ladder and moving it down for the next light. Clip, step, shift. It became routine for you, and as you let yourself relax while doing the activity, you felt the ladder wobble. Yelping, you gripped the top of the roof for dear life as you tried to steady it. You struggled for a little before jumping as you felt it still completely. Looking down, you saw Shinobu giving you a closed eye smile, giggling to herself. “Baby, I love you, but please get down from the ladder. I’ll hang the lights myself.” She said, helping you down from the ladder and kissing your head. She got up on it herself, clipping the lights on as you watched, pouting. “Shinobu, I don’t want you to get hurt.” You whined. She simply giggled at you.
“Darling, I’m the one in the relationship who isn’t clumsy. You’re quite the ditzy woman.”
“Well that’s just not true.” You said, turning away and crossing your arms. She giggled, shaking her head. “No, it’s true. When you aren’t slaying demons, you’re quite clumsy.” She teased. You huffed, turning you head up and away from her. She paused, clipping the last of the lights onto the house quietly before hopping down and giving you a hug. “You’re my klutz, though. I love you.” She mumbled. You smiled, patting her head. “I love you too, shorty.” She twitched, pulling away from you as her smile turned from genuine to internal rage.
“Run.”
“On it.”
kny prompt where y/n is shy af n one day rengoku caught feels for her 👉👈
omg im so sorry this took so long... i got really caught up in watching rengoku compilations on youtube and trying to find all his moments in the manga so N E WAY (hope you enjoy)
pairing: rengoku x shy!reader
you had lived in the butterfly estate your whole life. you had grown up with shinobu after kanae had found you half dead on one of her missions and kanao thought of you as her own sibling. needless to say, you were very familiar with the demonslayers and pillars frequenting the place you called home. it didnt make it easier to talk to them though; you considered yourself a rather shy person (which is why you and kanao seemed to unintentionally get along so well). but being part of the medical staff allowed you to be yourself. you never had to be outgoing or loud or extroverted, you just had to take care of your patients. although you had tried your best to keep a low profile, some things (or people) just couldn’t be avoided
-------------------
“--- you are dismissed.”
the pillars bowed and shuffled out of the meeting room immediately dissolving into their own separate conversations.
“oh, rengoku-san.” shinobu chirped, “you’re headed to my estate no?”
rengoku grinned. “yup! a week of mandatory rest. and i have to get my arm healed, it’s been feeling kind of weird.”
“thats because it looks broken.”giyuu chimed. rengoku squinted at the man and the proceeded to flop his arm around.
“it does?”
muichiro gagged. “please, please, go get your arm fixed.”
 “yeah. lets go.”
-------------------
you took a seat in one of the gardens residing in the butterfly estate. pulling out the small bento aoi had so generously prepared for you earlier that morning you relished the taste of the rice balls, tossing a few stray grains to the koi fish in the pond in front of you.
“wow! they really like rice!.” a voice boomed from behind you. you flinched and stood up, slowly turning your head to meet the person, only to come face to face with a recovering flame pillar. oh crap did he want to sit? had you unintentionally taken his seat? lucky for you he seemed to read the panic on your face.
the flame pillar laughed, “dont worry you havent taken my spot, i hardly come out to the gardens anyway.”
blushing you sat back down, burying your face in the huge rice ball, praying silently that you hadn’t completely embarrassed yourself in front of one of the strongest demon slayers ever. what you didnt expect was for one of the strongest demons slayers ever to take a seat next you.
“is it okay if i sit here?” he whisper-shouted. without meeting his glowing eyes you silently nodded your head hoping that he wouldn’t notice the very very very prominent blush on your face.
-------------------
if rengoku was being completely honest, he was a bit glad that his arm was broken. he was disappointed that it means one less person was going to be out there fighting demons, but it also meant that he was able to see more of you.
the flame pillar wanted to call it love at first sight, but you that required two people to look at each other, and, well, you hadn’t the slightest idea that he was actually looking at you.
after that fateful first encounter, if you could even call it an encounter, he started to notice you more and more around the estate, whether you were tending to other patients (oh how he wanted so badly for you to come and check up on him) or joining kanao for lunch or tending to the gardens or doing anything for that matter. and he definitely was jealous of the fact that you seemed to be more interested in the plants than himself.
-------------------
there was an issue. a very big issue that came in the form of rengoku kyojuro. the problem was that you were, in fact, very much in love with him. ever since he had joined you for lunch that day you couldn’t stop seeing him; he was everywhere. the universe was actively working against you and it didn’t help that your love for him was budding rather quickly. not only that, but you actually enjoyed having him around you, whether it be for lunch or taking strolls around the estate, just being with him was heart-racing.
you had no idea he felt the same way.
rengoku smiled to himself as he watched you trim the leaves of your roses. you two weren’t exactly speaking, but it wasn’t a bad thing. he had never really known comfortable silence until he met you. his whole life he had felt the need to fill the silence to constantly make someone laugh or talk. but when he was with you, he didn’t need to make you laugh or talk. (although he was a firm believer that you had the voice of an absolute angel), he just wanted to be with you.
-------------------
“(l/n)-san!”
turning to see the owner of the voice you immediately felt the butterflies in your stomach.
“good morning rengoku-san.” you said with a soft smile. ‘how adorable’ he thought to himself. “i heard from one of the doctors that your arm is healing quite nicely.”
if you had looked away a second later you would’ve missed the slight frown that crossed his face when you said that.
“yes., i should be ready for missions in about a week.” he said rather solemnly. you tilted your head to the side, “is something the matter rengoku-san?”
the flame pillar nodded. “ its just that if i’m going on missions now, i won’t be able to see you as much anymore.”
your stomach dropped. and then you laughed. “rengoku-san don’t be silly. ill still be here when you get back.”
he only frowned harder. didn’t you understand what he was saying? should he be more straightforward? sanemi-san had told him about kabedon-ing but he was pretty sure if he did that you would’ve exploded.
“rengoku - san?”
screw it.
he took two large steps forward and brought your face into his hands.
“y/n-san.”
“y-yes.”
 at this point your noses were barely brushing and you could feel his soft breath on his lips.
“im in love with you.”
you squeaked.
“-- with me? are you sure?”
the flame pillar laughed loudly and then gave you a reassuring look.
“i’m very sure that i’m in love with you.”
you smiled, placing your hands around his neck.
“that’s good, because i’m very sure that i’m in love with you too.”
“REALLY?” his eyes widened and he brought you closer to his chest. “I WAS SO WORRIED!.” he touched your forehead with his and for the first time you saw him blush.
“could you say it again please.”
“say what?”
“don’t tease!”
you laughed, giving him your biggest smile.
“i love you kyojuro.”
bonus:
kyojuro shot up, gasping for breath, and unintentionally waking you up in the process.
“ we didnt kiss!!” he exclaimed, staring at you intently. you turned red, “did you want too?”
now it was his turn to blush. he cupped your cheek in one hand and let the other fall on the small of your back... and then you were kissing. and oh, he knew what he was doing and oh his lips were so soft. tilting your jaw towards his he deepened the kiss pressing you closer to himself. and then you pushed him away gasping for air; your face an embarrassingly tinged red. kyojuro smirked, pulling you back onto his lap.
“one more…?”
