#I hate how romantic partners are treated as the ultimate relationship

Is it normal to feel angry when the people around you fall in love? Like, I love my friends and I’m happy and proud that their crushes worked out and they have partners, and it’s not like they’re leaving me behind at all, but I’m angry for some reason?
Maybe it’s because they have something I literally can’t have? I’m ok with not having a romantic partner ever, but maybe less ok than I thought?

Any thoughts on what a romantic relationship with Countess Chelsea would be like? 🥺 Thank you very much for your hard work, you're doing great 💛
Thank you for your kind words! As a matter of fact, I've thought about this often... You didn't specify, so I just wrote for Chief!Reader!
Romantic relationship between Countess Chelsea and Chief
It’s a relationship that surprises even the Chief themself, though they’re firm on one thing with Chelsea: they’re her partner, not her sugar baby. Please stop asking.
Chelsea does, in fact, stop asking, but not for the reasons you might think. Rather, she has everything she wants already; it’s normal to spoil your partner, isn't it? Why risk upsetting her beloved Chief over it?
This naturally means that Chief has to set boundaries very quickly, firmly stating that if Chelsea can't respect them, their relationship won't continue.
Chelsea pouts about it, but ultimately, her love for Chief wins out and she backs off.
Well, somewhat. She'll still buy the Chief a multitude of fancy and expensive gifts and shower them in gems, at first. Over time, as her relationship with the Chief develops, she'll swap from attaining gifts for Chief with her money to attaining opportunities for Chief with her influence. She's not afraid of using her power to lean on some influential people, and Chief will find themself having more free time than ever before.
Of course, when many of these outing opportunities inevitably turn into Mania incidents, Chelsea is fiercely loyal and protective. Sitri is always at Chief's side. If there are humans, not just Corruptors and Mania entities, involved in the crisis, if anyone tries to hurt the Chief… Chelsea will take care of them.
Chelsea doesn't take pleasure in making people disappear, but they're giving more worth to society as pretty gemstone statues anyway…
This behavior is the source of many disagreements between Chelsea and Chief, and is probably the biggest threat to their relationship. Chief absolutely hates this method of protecting them, but Chelsea is stubborn. Then again, so is Chief – plus they know that to some degree, it's an instinctive reaction triggered by Chelsea's Mania. They want to help Chelsea improve, but they know that it's not going to happen overnight.
In the occasional moments where Chief retires early, they like to visit Chelsea in her cell. The Countess is always incredibly excited and insists on Chief staying the night. When Chief answers that it's not allowed, she pouts and asks to at least cuddle Chief for a bit and help them get ready for bed. This, at least, is something Chief agrees to; it's something that thrills Chelsea too, since Chief doesn't usually let her be super physically affectionate during the day. She'll take these chances to plant soooo many kisses over her beloved Chief.
Mostly, affection during the day is limited to moments where Chelsea feels compelled to “mark her territory.” She's a jealous type, but can mostly restrain her reaction to other Sinners’ flirting to huffs and puffs and pouts… Except for a few Sinners that tend to cross a line for her.
Take Eirene, for example. The Countess despises Quinn's president in particular. Chelsea isn't blind to how Eirene treats her darling Chief as a pawn or property, and she's not afraid to get hissy when confronting the S-Rank, telling her to keep her paws off her Chief! Eirene never listens, though, which leads to common and heated altercations between the two. Chief has to keep them both separated for their own safety, though they're secretly touched at how far Chelsea is willing to go to defend them.
Whenever Chief sends her on a dispatch mission, Chelsea begs for the Chief to come with her. Usually, Chief has to decline, much to the Countess's disappointment, but on the rare occasion the Chief is actually able to accompany her, Chelsea never shows anything less than perfect performance.
Chelsea is also way too comfortable with barging into the Chief's office unannounced. She's hardly the only one, but she's definitely one of the most noticeable – constantly trying to sweep Chief away from their work to spend time with her. It's both distracting and endearing.
Oh, and Chelsea has planned the wedding out down to the last detail, of course. Chief nearly had a heart attack when she announced her plans, and reminded her that they weren't even engaged.
Chelsea tried to propose then and there, and has done so several times after as well, in exceedingly romantic gestures. Chief has said no each time, much to the Countess's profound disappointment, but… Honestly, if not for their job? They would've said yes already.
Sometimes, Chief wonders if they're doing Chelsea a disservice by being with her when their job demands so much of their time… But Chelsea always shushes them, saying that as long as she can have them, nothing else matters…
…Though if Chief wanted to quit, she wouldn't object to providing for them. This usually gets a fond eye roll and a gentle slap on the wrist from Chief.

Loonatics Unleashed is honestly nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. I'm a big critic when it comes to writing but I mostly had no issues with it. The characters, at times, can be bland but they're not atrocious or annoying. The re used jokes can get old fast but it isn't a crime against humanity calling back to something. And sometimes loose ends are left untied (ex: Pink the Pug and Danger Duck) but it makes sense considering the show had a horrendous first impression which resulted in the hate sinking it. A lot of the problems the show has are a result of it being canned too early. It's clear from the second season that LU listened to its critics so I believe, if given the chance, a third season would have showed great improvement in all of the above.
So now that I've got my nitpicks- that are just that, nitpicks!- out of the way. One of my favorite aspects of LU is the animation. Which is, ironically, one of the more criticized aspects. Is it perfect? No. Does it have its wonky moments? Yeah. But does it do the job of portraying what needs to be portrayed? And does it treat us with cute little details sometimes? Absolutely! I might have skipped the season 2 intro every chance I got but it wasn't for the animation. The new clips they had were charming! The LU style in particular is reminiscent of anime, a common trend in shows at the time, but it's also got some twang to it that helps the characters really pop.
My favorite animation in particular is the final fight scene in the series. Intense, fast, with incredible choreography. And the shot moments later of Ace, sharp ears shriveled, weakly holding himself up with a smile as his teammates rush to him. It's full of so much character! You can feel the emotions in the scene!!
The backgrounds, too, are very gorgeous! The lush, subtropical forestry of the Apocalypso come to mind. That entire episode is an ethereal palette! It's also a great detail how well Lexi's pink and green blend so well with her environment- making her appear as if she belongs there, which can work as foreshadowing for her strong connection with the plant life.
And of course the cheesy dialogue with sometimes nonsensical reference but ultimately silly intentions. It's fun, it's snappy, and it's maybe a bit dated- but who said there was anything wrong with being a product of it's time? Maybe what everyone says isn't the most memorable but Rev's rambling, Tech's techno babble, and Ace's play on words are a distinct aspect of their characters. And distinction is very important with your cast- especially your main characters!
Lexi is Lola's descendant but not once in the show is she sexualized. She's a respected member of the team who is viewed highly by Zadavia and the other Loonatics- so much so that she took over for Ace as leader one time! She's the action girl who is kind and fierce and incredibly dedicated to her passions. And, it's a small detail but after watching lots of shows with the sole girl ending up with the main guy, it's refreshing that her relationships remain wholly platonic! She and Ace are more like best friends than future (romantic) partners. Small, I know, but for an aro like me who is sick to death of that trope it's such a cool thing!
LU is far from a perfect show. Everyone and their grandma seems to have slready swung a bat at it. But there's a lot to praise the show for! Moral of the story- WATCH THE SHOW!!!

Not to harp on something that's already been harped on a lot, but it really is telling about how we as a society treat girls vs boys in media in the way that Marinette and Adrien's crush behavior is treated by the Miraculous fandom
Marinette putting up pictures of Adrien, daydreaming about marrying him, making him gifts for every occasion, memorizing his schedule, average crush behavior for a girl her age, exaggerated because t's a cartoon? Stalker behavior. Creepy. Unacceptable. Bad protagonist.
Adrien putting up pictures of Ladybug, collecting merch for her, daydreaming about marrying her, acting like they're a couple to the press when she repeatedly asks him not to, continuing to flirt with her when she repeatedly turns him down, all also exaggerated because it's a cartoon? Silly. Goofy. Romantic. Endearing.
The fact is that neither of them are acting in ways that are reprehensible. They're just acting their age. And they grow and they learn. In Elation they both acknowledge that the way they were approaching the pursuit of romance was wrong, in their mutual "It made me act in the worst ways" about their respective crushes (of course, this conversation happening between Marinette and Chat Noir, not knowing that they are Ladybug and Adrien respectively). And it's that acknowledgement that helps them both grow, take a different approach to how they view relationships, themselves, and each other, and ultimately what makes room for them to actually start a real, healthy relationship instead of just daydreaming about it in these overtop performative ways.
They're like... 13~15-ish through the show so far? They don't know how to do relationships. They're just learning what romantic love really is and what it means to them. Their respective growth over the show in that regard is them starting out performing what they think love is and learning that it isn't all the gimmicks and grand gestures, it isn't self-deprecation and hero worship, it isn't obsession. It's caring and being cared for. It's knowing and being known. It's about trust and being delighted in your partner.
And they both had a lot to learn from Season 1 to where we are now in Season 5 (and obviously have a lot of learning still to go, I mean they are still teenagers).
I just think to accuse Marinette of creepy stalker behavior and to brush off Adrien's unhealthy persistence towards Ladybug in the early show does a massive disservice to both their arcs.
Also it's just sexist. C'mon guys. When are we going to stop hating teenage girls in this society?

Sorry, but I like sylvie and think she's really perfect for Loki. YOU try making up a better match for him!
Tumblr media
I write, so fucking watch me.
Tumblr media
Let's break this down into what MCU Loki/Larry!Loki (because like it or not, he's canonically Loki Prime now) needs/would respond to most in a partner, where Sylvie falls short, and where any asshole with a pen or keyboard could've done better.
1- Loki needs to recover from his hideous past family trauma. Every single MCU film he is in, to some extent, adds to his already miles-long list of reasons why he should trust no one in this existence, least of all the people closest to him. In order to fall in love, he has a LOT of barriers to break down, and the TVA has only been seen to break those down via more psychological torture. An ideal partner for Loki would be patient, level-tempered, and someone who can soothe his past pain as opposed to tell him to suck it up, he deserves it. Sylvie ultimately only adds to his trauma by using him throughout the series despite his permitting her to get close to him.
2- Loki needs to be forgiven for his past sins. Yes, he nearly conquered New York City. The films went over all that. He got punished in TDW. He basically received further punishment throughout Ragnarok, where no one trusts him until the climax, when he pulls through with the escape ship. He's long since redeemed himself, and while Larry!Loki hasn't gone through the events of TDW and Ragnarok, the movies still indicate he can and has felt guilt for his past transgressions. In this timeline, perhaps instead of constantly being punished, he could find a forgiving ally who shows him the deeper sides of himself that remain unaffected by his bad choices. Sylvie is further punishment for Loki, not forgiveness. She puts him down, commands him, treats him like an inconvenience, and he follows her subserviently as if paying off a penance instead of moving forward.
Tumblr media
3- Loki needs to be validated and loved without compromise. So few people have shown love for him. Real love. Thor does sometimes, but his relationship with Loki is far from consistent. Loki loves his mother, but he's been shown her death at the TVA so now even that's just another bullet wound in his chest. He's never had any consistency or reason to get comfortable with anyone. The show seems to think Loki doesn't need to be given a soft word or a peaceful embrace because of his past penchant for violence. Why not? We don't tell traumatized veterans to 'suck it up' even after being violent in war (or, rather we shouldn't be). Sylvie taunts and orders him around, devaluing him at every turn and sending mixed signals.
4- Loki needs an equal (at the very least!). Loki is still a trickster, a mercurial god of Asgard who would probably find a companion who measured equal-to (but not above OR below) him in terms of intellect and attitude. Why would he be able to fall in love with anyone who makes him feel unworthy, seeing as he places so much value on power and external validation? I'm not sure why the MCU thinks it's anywhere in Loki's MO that he'd be romantically/sexually attracted to being 'beneath' his partner. Wouldn't the opposite be true, given how he LITERALLY TRIES USURPING THE THRONE?? Sylvie is stated outright to be his superior in every way, serving to only further demote Loki's worth in his own eyes.
Tumblr media
Characters can be left up to interpretation, but I still think it's messed up as hell to say that Sylvie is perfect for Loki. I sincerely get by on the thought that, odds are, TH hates the character as much as we do. I think it's travesty that all the hype around season 2 implies that we really getting the continuation of the 'true love story' of Loki and Sylvie.

my thoughts on lokius
[loki season 1 spoilers!]
season 2 is coming out in a few days (!!) and so i decided i’d write out my thoughts on lokius before it’s released. as a disclaimer, this is critical of the series, but not completely series-negative.
if lokius becomes canon in s2, i genuinely want to be happy about it. it would be amazing steps in queer rep for marvel to have a canonical lgbtq couple as the focus of the show (and i say this as a queer person myself).
but the way mobius and loki’s relationship was written seems to be only thought-out on the surface level (which is the case for a lot of the things in the show), and a lot of aspects of their relationship aren’t so great when you look deeper into it. i understand why people don’t notice and/or don’t want to acknowledge it — i was extremely enthusiastic about the ship, and i didn’t notice the problems either. to those looking at lokius with the most positive light, they have an amazing dynamic and are adorable and wholesome and all great things. so i get the hype, i really do (tbh, i shipped it so hard that several months ago when the problems were pointed out to me it ruined my week).
but even with how much i loved it, i didn’t want to just ignore any potential problems. so i distanced myself from the ship for a few weeks until i was in a better headspace to gather my thoughts.
first i’ll start with what was intended:
mobius is obviously intended to be a very kind and understanding character. whether or not the writers wanted it to come across as platonic or romantic, they wanted him to care deeply about loki. like loki said though: “no one good is ever truly good, and no one bad is ever truly bad.” the writers did give mobius at least one major flaw and a character arc, in that he believed in the goodness of the tva too much, but by the end of s1, he was all for taking it down .
you can see his flaw in the way he treats loki early on. sylvie’s been killing minutemen and stealing reset charges from the tva for a long time, and he wants loki’s help in finding her, so mobius does what the tva expects: he uses what he knows about loki to get them (somewhat) on the tva’s side. unfortunately, that happens to be psychologically breaking loki. compared to outright pruning from existence, which most of the tva seems to prefer, it’s no wonder he thinks this is the better option. (the fact that the show portrays this as a “therapy session” is a whole problem in itself, but i won’t get into that.)
things like this that mobius does early in the series can be explained by his faith in the tva’s mission. he didn’t agree with most of their methods, and he didn’t realize that even his actions (viewed by the tva as too merciful) were still significantly harmful, but he believed the tva ultimately worked for the good and safety of the entire universe. it’s not an excuse, but it could be forgiven in his later character arc when he realizes that he was wrong, regrets his actions, apologizes, and learns.
but then there’s the part when he puts loki in the memory cell.
i really, really hate that marvel did that. they easily could have had a very similar memory cell situation without having mobius be the one to put loki in there. (mobius could have left the room in anger, and then the guards or ravonna throw loki in there without mobius’ knowledge, for one example.) but instead, whoever wrote that plot point apparently didn’t understand how bad that was, and so it is, unfortunately, canon.
you might be inclined to say that it wasn’t that bad. because actions in fantastical situations can make things harder to distinguish, i’ll put a real-world comparison: one partner puts the second partner somewhere they KNOW that the second will get repeatedly both physically and verbally attacked. they do this simply because they think that they’ve been cheated on. even if they had been cheated on, that in no way excuses beating up the second partner, directly or indirectly.
hopefully you can recognize that as obvious abuse. even if the abuser later deeply regrets it and rescues their partner, the fact that they did it in the first place NEEDS to be addressed. i don’t know what exactly could repair a relationship after that, but brushing it under the rug and ignoring it won’t help. (and this is still abuse with a platonic reading of the relationship.)
if marvel hadn’t done that (and had handled mobius’ arc better in general) then there would be far less problems with the lokius ship. but since they did, us as fans have to figure out where to go from here, whether that’s writing or reading fix-it-fics or simply acknowledging that the problems exist.
hopefully the people running s2 are more competent and have figured something out to fix this. i really hope that’s the case. but it is marvel.
(sidenote: from things that tom hiddleston and owen wilson have said in interviews i’ve seen, i don’t think they noticed the problems either. maybe they have background context of things that aren’t in the official show but they accepted them as canon. or they just didn’t notice, like is the case with many fans.)

Hello. first of all I'm so sorry to read about your sad loss. Sending you love x
Youre so lovely with anon asks, I just happened to see in a blog that Jacob said in an interview, he cried bts in the final scene as he said "he got freaked out by it all ending, and doing this to Sam, the dynamic changing next year and its going to be different". That's kinda my worry is that we'll get barely if any Loustat for a few seasons, and viewer numbers could drop a lot as they'll miss Jacob and Sam together and we might not get to see a reunion season, years down the line if its cancelled 😞 Plus seeing Jacob doing promo with the guy who plays Armand and if they have the same amazing best friend chemistry that he and Sam had, will (in the nicest way possible) make me sad and miss Sam. What do you think?
Oh, thank you ❤ Charlie was the best girl. I think about her an obnoxious amount and hope, with all that I am, that she's playing in endless snow piles and taking the longest naps on comfy couches and eating the largest amounts peanut butter treats.
Now! That Jacob interview and Loustat speculations and everything else:
So obviously a lot of what I'm going to say is going to be pure speculation because I have no actual idea at what is going through Jones' mind and this particular story, this second interview, is not something that exists within the books.
First thing is that one thing the writers of Interview have already promised that is significantly different than the books is this promise of more Louis. For anyone not familiar with the 13 TVC books, Louis disappears significantly throughout the books, all before finally coming back in a real and lovely way in the last three, the last three that cement him in the vampire world and as the love of Lestat's life. (I've said it before, but if anyone ever wants to talk about Anne and her relationship with Louis, etc. I'm always down because it's sad and understandable and yet had such a horrible impact on Louis as a character, something I'll, selfishly, never get over). By adding Louis back into the narrative, I think we're going to see a (imo, necessary) shift in certain aspects of the book, namely Lestat's jumping around, especially given the insignificance of several of his partners, partners that would take too long in a show to build up as anything other than a weird one-nighty-stand kind of thing (another thing I could talk about all day is that I don't hate the idea of Lestat with others, to a point (okay, that's a lie, I kind of do), but Lestat needs stability in love and he could have had that had Anne kept Louis in, etc. etc.). As the narrative of the show will eventually be focused on Lestat as our main character, the promise of more Louis means that we will see Louis, predominantly, in how he interacts with Lestat.
Second thing is that while the show is inspired by TVC, it's obviously its own creation. I genuinely do not believe TVC would not do well as a show in exactness, for a multitude of reasons, and one of those is the lack of stable romance. Television audiences, fandoms, they thrive on romance. And I think Interview is very obviously setting up the entirety of the show to be focused, to some point, on Louis and Lestat's romantic relationship. I think if season 3 comes around and Louis and Lestat are still incredibly separated, people that are not TVC book fans (because if they are just trying to appeal to a book crowd, they're not going to stay on air, that's not how things work, and they are, obviously, not appealing to all book fans given the backlash they've gotten from some lol) are going to start falling off.
Third thing is that the #1 consistent review that has come from Interview's first season in all of the publications and whatnot is that Sam and Jacob's chemistry is an ultimate selling point. Like, every single thing I've read is stuff like "Only Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson and their sizzling chemistry could make the ethics of blood drinking believable," or "Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson are breakout stars, both for the individual performances they display as Lestat and Louis and also for the portrayal of their romantic, and doomed, relationship." Interview is too smart to not capitalize on that. They know that.
All of that being said, I think we can fully expect some Loustat moments next season, but I also do believe next season will be the hardest season re: Louis and Lestat, because of separation. There is a line in one of Claudia's diaries that we see, something about how Louis was acting like Lestat's ghost was around every corner and/or something about his constant mourning of Lestat while they're in Europe. And I think we may get flashbacks because of that, stuff like Louis dreaming of Lestat and waking up to realize he's not there, Louis discussing how, in his grief, focused on the happiness he missed, on the happiness that was once there. I also think Daniel is going to call him out on a lot of stuff and that's a whole different thing. I have this hope that we won't just get flashbacks though, but that we'll get Louis, so caught up in his grief, so in his head, that he hallucinates Lestat there, alive and full of golden life and just -- ugh. And I also think, if the show is, again, smart (and I do think they are, this set of actors and crew and writers and everything very clearly love these characters and love the world they're writing in), they will introduce Lestat into the modern world at the end of season 2 as to allow us a smooth transition into The Vampire Lestat for season 3.
Now, as for Jacob and Sam and promotion and stuff !! They will most definitely have them do promotion together, even if they'll have Jacob do a decent amount of promotion with Assad for obvious reasons. I think we'll get a lot of Assad and Eric interviewing together, for Armand and Daniel nightmarish shenanigans, I think we'll get a lot of Jacob and Sam because Louis and Lestat are still going to be considered the main characters of the show, I think we'll get a lot of Jacob and Bailey for European adventure interviews, I think we'll get a lot of Eric and Jacob for the actual interview portions, etc. etc. And! I do fully believe that they will let Jacob and Sam do a lot of promotion together simply because they want to. I won't get into too much because some people get weirdly uncomfortable talking about it (I'll save it for another post lol), but Sam and Jacob feel safe with one another. They truly love one another in a way that is glaring obvious, and beautiful, to audiences and to the cast (specifically Eric, who calls them out 24/7). They will fight to do things together, and it would only make sense to let them anyway, so I fully anticipate seeing plenty Jam Reiderson <3 (I selfishly demand it, too, Jam Reiderson is my entire life right now.)
So. After that essay, what I will conclude is I am not too worried. I do think next season is going to have its pain because there will be inevitable separation, but I truly believe, in my heart, that the show will have Louis and Lestat together much quicker than the books and that it will be, for lack of a better word, permanent. And I think Jacob and Sam will have plenty of time to be...them <3 and I think all of that is beautiful.

More venus retrograde thoughts about love and relationships because I'm annoyed or smth
I've seen the latest comments from Rachel Zegler about Snow White and I'm just tired. Her rude attitude doesn't help either.
Keep in mind I'm writing this as someone who never dreamt of a wedding nor having a husband (actually my childhood dream for the future was living together with my friends, such an Aquarius + 11th house stellium thing to do), I was also never actively looking for love and often kinda cringed at the thought of being in a relationship. I was always quite the tomboy and I grew up loving strong female characters who can kick some proper ass (Lara Croft was my ultimate hero). But I also loved stories about princesses who fall in love, because, idk, one needs a healthy balance.
Also I'm invested cause I was once the Evil Queen in a school play lol.
Listen, Snow White is ultimately about having a pure heart and rising beyond the surface level, whether it's someone's "beauty" (Snow White) or "quirks" (dwarfs), so just, like, don't be vain and be kind, that's the point. It's not even a love story, per se, as Snow White spends majority of time figuring herself out, being resilient and minding her own business. In both the og fairy tale, as well as the animated movie, Prince is just a convenient plot point. But as usual it ends with finding "true love" cause that is just the universal way of saying that love conquers evil. And so you can have a victory in a full package fashion of self-fullfilment and a romantic partner.
So like, saying things like "the story is outdated" and "ugh @ true love and prince" is just??? I can't find an eloquent way to say it, so let's just go with: stupid.
My mom just told me the other day about her friend, who called off her wedding because she felt "too ugly for the pretty guy". Years later she met someone else and she married the dude because he treated her good and that's it. They have a daughter and don't really even live together now. My sister, on the other hand, has a friend who's in a relationship and she's not really that much into her boyfriend but he has a lot of money and so it's a convenient situation for her.
These are just examples but my point is, there's plentyyyy of relationships like that these days. I think the world actually NEEDS true love and a reminder that you can have your own fairy tale, like stop being so pragmatic about life.
Meanwhile the approach that's represented by Rachel is not only being way too pragmatic (because, apparently, everything revolves only around work and building empires and no one really needs a good support system and emotional intimacy with the other *read with sarcasm*) but also it's villanizing love and villanizing men. We'll never be equal if we won't stop putting one above the other.
Also? Side note, I was a fan of Maleficent and how they got rid of the Prince there, I think they've done it in a clever way. I liked The Huntsman, that was an interesting twist on Snow White. I liked Once Upon a Time's version of Snow as well. Mirror Mirror flipped the script as well. So I don't think we have to forcibly prove the same thing over again. And if they want, they can come up with a new story or reach for another fairy tale that has the female protagonist saving the day (there's a few, just do a quick google). But obviously Disney won't come up with anything new because it's easier to sell something that's already familiar, that's why they're making those remakes.
(And like, so disrespectful to hate on the first ever full-length animated movie, like wtf.)

Hello??? Do you have a list for these you-should-at-least-read-them-for-sex-scenes books?? I'll gladly take the list if you have it!
Lol, I was gonna make a list called like, "Sex Scenes You Should Read the Book For" but this is probably easier.
Priest by Sierra Simone: For all your priest kink needs, with a side of true callouts of the Catholic Church and religious complexity (TW: discussions of sexual abuse in the Church, did not happen to the leads). He's a priest, he's a dom daddy. Special callout for the altar scene in which he's very literally treating sex like Communion.
Heated Rivalry & The Long Game by Rachel Reid. A duet, the ultimate m/m hockey romance... I think that because this duet is so well known for how soft the romance is, people gloss over the fact that a lot of the page time is like... sex. They read like a real couple, the books cover like a decade, so like. Yeah. They bone down a lot. Best scene is the trophy room in TLG, imo, because it has that like *feeling* of two people who know each other verrrrrry well having sex, and also like "sex as a pick me up" because Shane feels like shit and Ilya is like. Hyping him up during, lmao. Ilya is vERY good dominant partner, and it's something I think the book does well in general--portraying how soft d/s dynamics can be a part of many sex lives.
Mila Finelli's Kings of Italy series, of course. Will never miss a chance to recommend this series.
Mafia Mistress and Mafia Darling (duet): for the age gap (18 and 38), for when you want big dom daddy/little girl vibes, a bit of defiance that somewhat quickly gives way to a very fond, doting relationship. Standout scenes include the entire "Roman fuckpad" sequence, which I think is also when they do anal for the first time? And I've gotta be real, a lot of het anal sex scenes in romance don't work for me because it's just... not written well. But THIIIIIIIS SCENE. Is. Good. Also, the scene where he's literally eating her out and she calls him daddy for the first time and he pauses to be like "WHATDIDYOUJUSTSAY"
Mafia Madman. Theeeeee hottest book I've ever read. Like. I'll just say it. There may be books with more sex scenes (I mean probably not that many more because these two are FUCKING); there may be books with more explicit sex (bitch I guess); but to meee the combination of romance+sex+chemistry+specific kinks... there's nothing hotter that I've read. Think super enemies to lovers, heavy dom/sub, heavy praise kink, roooough sex with some CNC. Sex with restraints, sex with choking, she has a VCH piercing and he's all the fuck about it. And they hate each other through the first 20 orgasms or so. I mean I'm an absolute bitch for this book so the like, Raw Emotional Sex where they make eye contact and she's all "make me your good girl" is my faaaaavorite but there is. Not a single miss in this novel. This is a book about the two sluttiest people in the series (thus far) finding love in the midst of loathing and it's a drug 2 me.
Mafia Target. M/M assassin romance that has a blow job 5% of the way in (as noted by Goodreads people bitching about how it began "too quickly"). Probably the most traditionally romantic and swoony book in the series thus far, but still. A lot of extremely good sex. Giulio and Alessio probably have the least kinky sex in the series? But they do fuck in a public park with some weird dude watching in the "scopami forte il grosso toro" scene so. That ain't saying much.
Of course, Joanna Shupe also has some great sex scenes in her historicals. The Lockwood/Nellie scene with the tit biting in The Duke Gets Even. The performance masturbation in The Bride Goes Rogue. The "partition but it's a carriage" blow job scene in The Devil of Downtown.
Eva Leigh writes a reeeeeally good mfm novella in Two Rakes for Mrs. Sparkwell. I think there's an Eiffel scene in that which I adore. I also love her upcoming A Rogue's Rules for Seduction. I can't say much about which scene absolutely hits (they all do) but uh. RIP Dom's knees.
Elizabeth Hoyt wrote such gooood historical sex scenes, especially in her Maiden Lane books. Shoutout to the classic Emotional BJ in Thief of Shadows, but I reread that book recently and there's a scene where Winter literally fucks this woman on a table and proposes marriage while still inside her? Fab.
Of course, Maximus Batten putting Artemis on a chair so he can sit on the floor and eat her the fuck out in Duke of Midnight will always slam.
Everyone should read The Hawk by Monica McCarty just for that scene where they fuck on a raft in the middle of a storm.
Grace Callaway writes great sex in general, but if I had to pick one I'd call out the scene where the hero fingers the heroine to orgasm, legs full spread, pussy out in the breeze, in front of a group of people who all start going at it because it's too much.
The Queer Principles of Kit Webb is a must read because of the trading blow jobs scene where Percy is like, rolling his eyes because he wants Kit to face fuck him and Kit is like "YOUR FACE! YOUR DELICATE FACE!"
The wall sex scene in Unmasked by the Marquess by Cat Sebastian is subliiiime. Especially because there are people! On the other side of the wall!
I mean, every IAD book has some batshit fuck scene but listen. Lothaire by Kresley Cole. The blood blowjob. Which is actually a blood 69. One of the most unhinged scenes... Every time I read it I'm like, swept away and absorbed because like. The literally supernatural horniness of it all. The fact that Ellie is both.... wanting to fuck him and wanting to eat him... and he's about it.... Just *chef's kiss*. Every sex scene in that book is off the shits tho
The ass eating scene in Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall, which is both hot and hilarious because Person A keeps calling Person B's asshole a "hungry flower" and Person B is like please God stop. Soon to be followed by Something Spectacular on April 11, which has one of the most! Stunning! Sex scenes I've read in a historical since I don't know when.
Ruby Dixon's Aspects and Anchors series is soooo good, and the sex scenes are soooo bomb. There's a scene in the first one (Bound to the Battle God) where he eats her out while she's eating a really juicy piece of fruit and the juice is running down her neck while... her juices... are also running. Sworn to the Shadow God has the rare "she's on her period and is all 'no I'm on my period' and he does not give a FLYYYYYING FUUUUUCK" scenes. Wed to the Wild God has SUPERNATURAL PEGGING.
Obviously, Ice Planet Barbarians. Shoutout to Barbarian's Mate, which involves a scene where the hero is making a like, six hour trek through the snow while carrying the heroine, but they are so fucking horny that he just has to periodically stop and fuck her. And so they end up just walking with her facing him, legs around his waist, so he can just periodically penetrate her. As needed.
Lush Money by Angelina M. Lopez, because my god. The scene in the car. When the paparazzi get pics of the hero face down head between her legs going to town on her. Amazing.
Preferential Treatment by Heather Guerre; I think my favorite sex scene is when she's sitting in his lap, faced away from him, on his cock, while they play chess against each other. He has to not come.
Lead by Kylie Scott for the "let's get it out of our system" fuck on the kitchen table. Which begins with him sitting down to eat. Also, Deep by Kylie Scott has some wooooonderful pregnancy sex scenes after the heroine gets accidentally knocked up, because as a friend who is responsible for her getting pregnant, he has to help her take the edge off right??? What kind of friend would he be if he left her to get herself off???
Every sex scene in Run, Run Rabbit by C.M. Nascosta but especially the "come inside her then make the beta male werewolves clean her up with their tongues" scene.
Anyway, these are not ALL but they are A FEW.

cause I think the thing is. like. I try REALLY REALLY hard to give people the benefit of the doubt when I get Bad Vibes, and I particularly do when they're saying my partners bc like. obviously there's a) some need to keep things smooth and not fuck up my partner's other relationships and b) it's hard to vibe out where the closeness to the situation introduces unconscious bias.
h o w e v e r
and this is in and of itself a pretty biased view but
I would say that I have yet to have a situation where in retrospect I've been too harsh in my opinions on a partner's relationship, and I've had several experiences now where I have been un-harsh to the degree of really letting their partners treat not just then but also me real fucking shitty like.
I don't think I'm a particularly jealous person (for a current example I straight up love Kofi's boyfriend he's SO FUN AND NICE AND GOOD FOR THEM. in this house we stan). and I have really liked the majority of people who've dated people I've been dating tbh. I also think I'm pretty good at telling the difference between 'I like this person but I don't think their relationship looks great' and 'I don't like this person'.
but I get So Anxious about, even in my own head, being honest about the bad vibes I get about a relationship my partner is having. it's one of the trickiest things about poly, I think, and it's something I've dealt with probably 4 or 5 times now?
cause, at least in my model of polyamory, a relationship that your partner is having with someone else is theirs, not yours. Like a relationship your sibling or parent or best friend is in - you're potentially very close to it and have ringside seats, but you're not a participant and ultimately you don't get to make decisions about what it looks like.
But like those other types of second-hand relationships, you aren't uninvolved or unaffected by bad ones. Both because you have to watch someone you care about go through it, and because as someone very close to them you end up picking up a lot of flak. When someone you love (whether it's friends, family or romantic partners) is in a relationship that's toxic, abusive, or going through a lot of stress, that has a lot of knock-on effects on you - they're stressed, they need support, they may have less energy or time, they're likely to be more reactive to stuff that triggers bad vibes in their relationship, they may need a listening ear or someone to reassure them they're not being unreasonable (or tell them if they are), they need a safe place to go when stuff blows up, all that stuff.
and that's a difficult balance whatever their relationship is to you. We've all had that thing with a friend or family member where you're threading that needle of like "ok I need to reinforce that they don't deserve to be treated like shit but also I need to be civil with their partner and not make things worse and also there's angles on this I'm not seeing, and do I tell them what I think about their partner or will they turn round down the line and be like WHY SHOULD I LISTEN TO YOU ABOUT THEM WHEN YOU'VE ALWAYS HATED THEM." that kind of stuff.
but I do think there's a specific complexity to that in a poly context. because unlike with a friend or sibling or parent or child, in a poly relationship, you and your partner's other partner are kind of in the same space. You might not be in direct competition but you're approaching each other as equals and what you have to say about someone's relationship hits different because of that.
like for me it's often cut both ways too. it drives me nuts if a partner goes to their partner for advice on how to handle our relationship. similarly I really don't want to be implying that my way of being in a relationship with someone is the Right Way and their other partner is just Less Good At Dating Them, because obviously that's not the case, we have different relationships. and I don't feel that way about friends or family. and it's not really jealousy, I don't think, it's just there's a type of closeness bred of similarity that creates a possibility of competition (not necessarily fighting over someone, but competing to be the Best At Dating Them).
in my case I think I often overcorrect for that. hence letting a lot of stuff slide in how my partners' partners behave around me that I absolutely would not let pass if they were my friends' partners. but whether you overcorrect or undercorrect I think it's really hard to navigate tbh.

1. Ships that I don’t get
Literally like all of them lmao especially anything involving Luffy or Law LOL. Luffy literally has no interest in romance whatsoever quite honestly I think he would view a relationship as stifling and I don’t think he would like having to deal with the compromise that’s necessary for a relationship to work because like. So much of One Piece is Luffy basically just doing whatever he wants and everyone around him has to go along with it because his biggest character goal is like the ultimate sense of freedom that he can possibly obtain. I’m not sure if what I’m trying to say makes sense here I’m just saying that I think like Luffy wouldn’t mesh well in a relationship unless it was with someone who had absolutely 0 qualms about him just doing whatever he wanted to all the time and I think that’s hard to find. Ships with Law don’t make a ton of sense to me because personally I think he’s got so much trauma I don’t think he would be willing to even open up to the possibility of a relationship with someone unless he has absolute trust in them, and I think that would be like a slow process to get there. I think you would need like 2 years 3 crowbars and a blowtorch to even get him to open up to the possibility of a relationship especially because he seems to very deliberately keep people at an arm’s length from himself. He’s also just not a very romantic guy in my mind I don’t think he would treat a romantic partner all that differently from how he treats the people he seems to be actually close to (his crew)
11. An unpopular character that I like but the fandom doesn’t.
Ummmm I don’t really dare to venture into tags to know how anyone feels about any specific characters but I guess I’ll say Sengoku? Is he unpopular idk. Just from the standpoint of I find it really interesting how he and Law are the only two people who could really share any memories of Cora or share any grief over his loss and I think that would be a really interesting thing to explore more I would really like to know more details about his sort of parental relationship towards Cora.
19. One thing I hate most about the fandom
Man I just hate all the debate on the stance of Kiku and Yamato’s genders. Some people are so grossly transphobic about them but I also sometimes feel a bit like people give Oda a little too much credit in regards to how their writing is handled.

For the Writing Ask Meme:
#2 and #22 💜
2. Give short descriptions of all the main characters for [WIP].
Gonna do this for the characters for "Those Red Nights" since it's the WIP I've been working on the most recently! (also these won't be super short, RIP I apologize in advance)
Det. Selene Radcliffe - 28 years of age; a young, freshly-graduated detective. Mute - uses a combination of ASL and a pocket notebook to communicate (the latter of which is reserved for those who aren't fluent in ASL). Has a degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice (as well as a minor in Forensic Sciences) from the University of Wisconsin (Madison). Works hard to prove herself as a smart, strong, determined, and hard-working investigator because of how she is treated differently by her peers for being a mute woman, as well as being the daughter of Arthur Radcliffe, a famed and well-liked PI that worked with the Milwaukee Police Department. She is seen as the ‘privileged trainee’ because of these connections, and she is aware of this privilege, which fuels her determination to prove herself capable and skilled enough in her own right. She also owns a fat cat named Gus (he is important in the story, I swear, lmao), and a lot symbolic motifs related to her character is moon imagery and the color red, as this is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood. Face claim (and primary source of inspo) is Jodie Foster.
Det. Apollo Esposito - 40 years of age, a seasoned detective that works with the MPD. Is originally from Chicago, and comes from a Black-Hispanic background. Knows ASL because his mom is deaf (sometimes he will sign stuff when speaking out of habit, or he has super animated hand gestures that look like he’s signing). Apollo is a very optimistic and hopeful man, despite seeing the more grim parts of humanity. He uses seeing such grim stuff as inspiration to remain warm and hopeful. He and Selene are partners, both professionally and romantically, and they've also a very deep friendship with one another. Apollo is her voice of hopeful reason, while Selene is his realistic one. The symbolism surrounding his character centers primarily on sun imagery and the color yellow and themes of hope, and his fairytale counterpart is the Huntsman.... he is also a huge Broadway musical nerd. I've no set face claim for him, but it's currently bouncing between Norm Lewis and Samuel Anderson.
Lowell Volkov - 45 years of age, is employed at the Milwaukee Public Museum. He starts off as a very meek, spineless man that allows himself to be pushed around by his peers - which he, unfortunately, interprets as personal slights and cruelties against him (when in reality these people aren't all that rude to him, he just holds a very jaded, hateful worldview). He becomes afflicted with lycanthropy after scratching his hand on an artifact (this concept needs more development), which he initially uses to boost his confidence but ultimately loses himself within this power fantasy, and becomes a cruel and arrogant man. Ultimately, he uses his lycanthropy to commit crimes and murders, becoming a serial killer known as "The Big Bad Wolf" because of the animalistic nature of his kills. Lowell and Selene were once lovers, though very briefly, and their relationship becomes one of predator and prey as they begin to hunt each other in the streets of Milwaukee... A lot of symbolism surrounding Lowell's character is cold, starless nights and wolves, and his lycanthropy is a very lowkey allegory for toxic masculinity and themes surrounding confidence becoming arrogance. Face claim is Bob Odenkirk.
22. How much of your own self/experiences do you believe pours into your projects? if this differs per project, which projects have the most and least of you?
Admittedly I try to distance myself as much as I can from my projects, in terms of putting my own experiences into plots and characters? The closest I've ever came to this was making characters like Edgar in TMATB book nerds because I'm a book nerd lmao dslsdljdslsddsldsklsdk

Since I don't have an original idea maybe Gundham NSFW ABC's
Also if you do anon names can I be 🦎 anon? If not it's okay I just wanted to ask!
YES I LOVE TANAKA SO MUCH I planned on doing this anyway 🦎 anon so I’m DOWN! Also yes you’re officially my first anon with a name I love it! Welcome!!!
NSFW ABC’S : Gundham Tanaka 💖
A (Aftercare) Gundham is so sweet and loving after sex with you. The two of you always shower together, and while you’re getting dressed he’ll make the two of you hot tea, and put on a movie in bed so the two of you can just snuggle and drink tea all evening until one of you (usually you) fall asleep.
B (fave body part) ASS. GUNDHAM IS AN ASS MAN! He likes to grab it and smack it and kiss it and bite it. He’s a sucker for your ass.
C (cum) he’s literally the ultimate breeder. So naturally he cums inside of you every. Single. Time. And you love it of course.
D (dirty Secret) it’s no surprise that Gundham is a little old fashioned about things. Well, same goes for romance obviously. He hates sexting and sending nudes, but he loves writing you erotic notes and leaving them on your nightstand, or bathroom counter for you to see when you wake up/get home. Usually they include something about how he can’t wait for his dark beauty to come home so he can absolutely ravage them. Ya know, cute romantic stuff like that
E (experience) You’re his first and only! He’s very shy and doesn’t express himself well, so when you two finally started dating, you were his first everything. Relationship, sexual partner.. all of it. But he caught on quick and he’s damn good at it.
F (favorite Position) he actually prefers missionary because he wants to constantly be able to kiss you and be as connected and close as possible. But don’t think that’s the only one he loves. Gundham is also obsessed with fucking you doggy style. From that position he can pound into you as hard and deep and rough as he wants, and also don’t forget that he has a preference for your ass.
G = (Goofy?) a little bit. Since he’s only ever slept with you there’s always some errors that embarrass him, but make you giggle and kiss him. Which makes him do the same. It’s super cute and makes you both fall more in love with eachother. Also since he was a virgin before meeting you there’s lots of experimenting that makes you both a little embarrassed and laughing sometimes.
H = (Hair) He’s never fully shaved, but he does trim and groom himself regularly. He doesn’t mind what you do either way, because he loves you regardless.
I = (Intimacy) sex with Gundham can definitely be goofier, but it’s usually incredibly intimate. He wants to touch and bite and leave marks all over your entire body. He usually lights candles and on birthdays, holidays, or your anniversary, he also has some rose pedals because even though he’s an emo boy, he’s also super romantic. He doesn’t give his love to just anyone, so he’s gonna absolutely shower you with it.
J = (Jack Off) Before meeting you he would jack off all the time. Here lately not as much. But when you’re not able to come over, he’s not afraid to think about you and enjoy himself.
K = (Kink) well he has a breeding kink. But besides that, he also realized he liked overstimulation and orgasm deprivation- but not to you. He wants to be over stimulated. He wants you to do all of that to him. Even though he has a “I’m better than everyone” thing going on most of the time, in the bedroom he’s actually very submissive. He does take charge every now and again, but for the most part he wants you to dominate him.
L = (Location) mostly your apartment/ dorm. But for his birthday you got a romantic hotel room with a jacuzzi bath tub you fucked in more than once. You’ve also had sex in hot tubs, pools, tents in the woods while camping, and in his car at night on a cliff. As long as you’re alone and together he’s so happy.
M = ( Motivation) sit on his lap and whisper in his ear. “Hey my sexy prince of darkness” something like that. Kiss his neck. He’s going to m e l t. Anything you do that’s even remotely sexy is all it takes.
N = (NO) he doesn’t wanna do animal play. He won’t use a collar or leash or treat you like a pet. He loves you in a different way than his animals.
O = (Oral) as much as Gundham adores when you blow him, he almost always cums too quickly without meaning to, and usually tells you not to do it. He’ll always happily give you oral though. He loves making you feel so blissful with his mouth
P = (Pace) slow and long, but also deep and hard. He wants to be buried inside of you, but never want it to end.
Q = (Quickie) oh yes. Shower quickies, after work quickies, just because quickies, waiting for dinner to finish quickies. But he also loves to make an entire evening out of having sex with you.
R = (Risk) yes and frequently! As mentioned before he’s never gotten to experiment with sex or kinks before meeting you, so the two of you have tried a lot of stuff.
S = (Stamina) at most he cums 3 times, but usually just two within like and hour and a half of foreplay and sex. He likes orgasm deprivation remember? Wink wink
T = (toy) can’t say you two haven’t used any toys ever. You’ve both been handcuffed, whipped, blindfolded, and tied up
U = (Unfair) he doesn’t like teasing you at all. He always feels bad and gives in as soon as you start to beg him. But he fucking loves when you tease him. At first, becoming such a whimpering mess was embarrassing for him. But now he’s obsessed with it.
V = (Volume) He isn’t quiet by any means, but he’s not the loudest. Gundham’s voice is so deep that all of his moans, groans, and grunts are very very loud in your ears. He also screams when he talks without realizing it sometimes, so you can imagine he accidentally gets real loud sometimes.
W = (Weird fact) if you’re ever trying to get him horny, wear something sexy in the color black. As the true overlord of the underworld, he loves black, and he always thinks you look so sexy in it. Especially when you’re trying to be sexy.
X = (X-Ray) 9 and a half inches. hard. When he told you that you literally didn’t believe him and eventually made him measure for you and prove it. He knows how to work it too.
Y = (Yearning) he doesn’t just want to fuck you. He wants to make passionate love to you every night of his life. He’s grown addicted to your body, and you feel the exact same for him. That’s why you have so many quickies and long long nights together. Because you both crave each others touch so frequently.
Z = (ZZZ) as stated before he loves to make you two tea and watch a movie in bed. Typically the two of you watch half the movie, finish the tea, and pause it to take the dishes to the sink and use the restroom. Sometimes somebody makes a snack to enjoy in bed once you resume the movie, and cuddling. 9 times out of 10, you fall asleep first, on his shirtless chest, arms wrapped around him tight. Doing his best not to move, he turns the tv off and adjusts the two of you to lie down more; and he falls asleep holding you to his chest.

Unpopular opinion, but I think Nana K and Takumi are really good for each other. I'm just really drawn to the both of them. I think that in his own way, Takumi does really love Hachi. Hachi is warm, motherly, and gentle, things that Takumi had always been deprived of ever since he was young. Even though Hachi is spoiled and childish she is a pillar of strength and loyal to a fault to her friends. Takumi can better ground Hachi to reality, and can accept her for what she is, and Hachi can soften Takumi.
I remember that scene in the bathtub when Hachi said that Takumi can rely on her, he was so surprised, like the concept of relying on someone else is so foreign to him, which is not surprising given his background. That's why that time when Takumi received the call about Ren's death, and he held Nana's hands, is all the more significant, because Takumi does not do that, he takes care of everything by himself.
I won't excuse his problematic behaviors, but who amongst the characters in Nana are not problematic? (Nana O with her possessiveness, Ren with his addiction, Reira and Shin's self esteem issues and struggle with their self worth)
Sooooo there is LOTS to unpack here, particularly with another ask I assume is from you.
What I'll focus on here is that,, I think the relationship is FAR tilted in Hachi making Takumi a better person than the other way around. Sure Takumi can give Hachi a reality check, but this isn't something that other character's couldn't provide Hachi if given the opportunity. Additionally, Hachi is 20, later turning 21. At that age, not many 20 year olds have a firm grasp of themselves and reality. Hachi's flightiness is part of her age. We see her growing up through the series and with or without Takumi, she'd be getting a reality check just by growing up. On the other hand, the things Hachi offers Takumi are things that no one else in the series is able to offer.
Take your example of Takumi taking Hachi's hand after getting the call about Ren's death. That is a very powerful example of how Takumi depends on Hachi, yes. But later, when Hachi is still processing her grief over Ren Takumi tells her without discussion that he won't be staying at their place. When Hachi, pregnant and grieving, cries and basically expresses that she's upset and needs his support... He just tells her to go stay with Nana, like it's obvious, like he hadn't just made plans all on his own and not discussed them at all with her. It's great that it worked out to both Hachi's and Nana's benefit to be together to grieve but as we find out... Takumi leaves Hachi at Nana's without any contact whatsoever. Prioritizing Reira's well-being over Hachi's. And while, true, Reira is in need of more direct comfort and care in her state... they have phones. A phone call, A TEXT would be sufficient just to check in. But he doesn't.
Additionally, at the end of the day... Takumi has raped Hachi twice that we've seen (chapter 29 and chapter 47), because rape isn't just physically beating someone into the act. She even says it's rape in chapter 48, though narratively it is treated as a joke. He also emotionally abuses her constantly, isolating her from others and belittling her when she implies he's jealous about Nobu when he is at least a little.
The way abuse works, the abuser has many more good and charming moments with their victim. That's why abuse victims stay which is why yes, Takumi and Hachi have lots of cute moments together. Those moments are why Hachi stays, why many abused people stay with their abusive partner at least in the beginning.
I do believe completely that in those future chapters we see ahead in NANA, Takumi is a much better person because all we've seen is that he does change and feel regret over his past behaviors. A better husband and partner to Hachi, and most importantly a loving father. But none of that means Hachi would ultimately be better off with their relationship. I do enjoy Takumi's character - he is among the most interesting characters of the series - but he definitely got the better end of the deal here.
Which brings me to the word problematic. I hate that word honestly, because it brings us to situations like this where we can distill people into being ~problematic~ without naming what qualities making them so. Takumi is a rapist and abuser and this is not equal with any of the characters problematic traits you've listed. That said, I'll say that Ren's problematic flaw is NOT being an addict. Being a drug user is not a moral failing, even if how someone treats people while using drugs can be. Ren's big failing is the same as Nana's - possessiveness even if it manifests itself differently. Also... one, struggling with self-esteem and self-worth are not problematic. Reira's issue is being an adult who is in a romantic and sexual relationship with a kid who is being sex trafficked.
One of the great things about NANA is the characters and their wide range of character flaws. I think the story is better off for having all of them, with all their flaws (even if narrative handling of some of those flaws could be better imo). That doesn't mean all flaws are equal. I respect that you have that opinion and I don't think it's as unpopular as you think. I just think you're on tumblr, where most users see rape and abuse as deal breakers. Go seek out the Instagram NANA fans or if you're interested in having a nuanced discussion about Takumi join my NANA Discord here.
Thanks for the ask and I'll answer the other asks in my ask box ASAP :)

i've been thinking about griddlehark recently, especially since i've listened to the gideon audiobook for the first time. i love them lots! but i had forgotten just how terrible harrow was to gideon in the beginning, and how blindly devoted gideon was to harrow (even when they were mortal enemies). i'm not sure if i'd be happy with them becoming canon without completely addressing that, so i'm going to talk about what i would like to see happen in alecto to deal with the power imbalance.
as someone who's been in a very similar position to gideon (being a punching bag to someone i'm devoted to out of love) i can speak from experience when i say that it sucks. i currently do not have much of a relationship with that person anymore, but gideon clearly wants to pursue one with harrow--whether that be platonic or romantic.
right now griddlehark are suffering from a severe power imbalance with harrow coming out on top. even during htn, harrow made choices for gideon without consulting her first or considering how it would affect her (mainly the lobotomy, which clearly bothered gideon based on how she talked about it in act five--or rather, didnt). harrow tormented gideon for her entire life. i feel like people tend to brush over this or treat it as a child's rivalry instead of treating it as it was (or how i read it to be): constant, unrelenting abuse. harrow canonically tried to kill gideon multiple times throughout their childhood. by the time we reach gtn, it almost seems like tormenting gideon is a game for harrow, considering the way she handled gideon's escape attempt. she pulled it away at the very last second for no other reason (that we know of) than to make gideon feel the worst. obviously we know now that harrow is fucked up in her own way. growing up mostly without parents, with incredibly high expectations based around being a literal war crime and the only surviving necromancer in the royal line, she's desperate to find and cling onto any control she can get over anything and anyone. she's gone through an incredible amount of character development within the last two books. i'm a huge fan of that! i think it's very safe to say that harrow cares about gideon as an equal and wants her friendship--the entirety of htn is basically a tragic love letter to her. but that doesn't make the lasting impact of how she acted go away.
on the other hand, gideon has apparently always been devoted to harrow: on page 332 of gtn she says that she was "hungry for the Reverend Daughter's occupation" in her youth, and strongly implies that she endured harrow's ceaseless beatings and torment because it was the only thing gideon received other than people blindly hating her or ignoring her. harrow was fascinated and obsessed with her in a terrible, violent way, but at least it was something. this is, of course, worsened after gideon walks in on harrow after The Incident. that, mixed with the overhanging inherent power imbalance of gideon being harrow's/the locked tomb's indentured servant since birth, means that gideon has never known a life free of harrow's control over her. being devoted to harrow is gideon's norm--she's literally never known anything different. and, on top of that, she's never expected anything in return. hoped, maybe, but never expected. gideon tries to leave but is stopped every time by harrow; the only way gideon is able to experience her first bout of "independence" is through caanan house, which was an opportunity given to her by harrow. harrowhark has been a constant in gideon's life since she was one year old. gideon relied on her for some semblance of normalcy and a twisted form of recognition. gideon goes through a lot of character development in caanan house as well, and we get to watch her and harrow start to deconstruct their corrupted relationship and reform it into something better and healthier. but even then, gideon still ends up making the ultimate sacrifice for "the Ninth": aka harrow, since she states not five pages before that she doesn't actually care about the Ninth at all and is only doing this for her (that is open to interpretation, but i think it's safe to say that gideon's main reason for jumping was to save harrow regardless of how you interpret her last words). later, at the end of htn, gideon still doesn't expect much from harrow in return. "harrowhark, i gave you my whole life and you didn't even want it." comes to mind. it's not about whether or not the statement is true, it's about what gideon believes based on harrow's past actions. the idea of harrow refusing gideon's sacrifice is more believable to her than harrow succumbing to her grief. i'm not even sure if gideon knows about the lobotomy. if someone told her, would she believe them?
so, right now, we have one person desperate for control and the other hopelessly devoted to a fault. both harrow and gideon are far different women now than they were at the beginning of gtn! they're in the middle of their character arcs right now. here's how i would like to see griddlehark rekindle their relationship in a healthy way:
gideon spends a lot of time harrow-free. she learns what life is like without harrow present. she gets to discover herself without harrow there. gideon still cares about harrow, obviously, and will spend time trying to find and reconnect with her. i hope that in the meantime she gets to find herself as an individual! she needs to see that she is more than just "harrow's mortal enemy" or "harrow's cavalier". she is someone outside of her relationship with harrow, whatever that relationship may be. when she reunites with harrow, i hope that it's a choice that gideon makes, not because harrow asks for her.
when reunited, harrow takes full responsibility and accountability for her past actions against gideon. this has sort of happened, but only in the sense of harrow's self-loathing: she gets angry during the pool scene in gtn, but that's based around "i was awful to you, why are you being kind to me"; not really an apology. later, she asks gideon if she forgives her and gideon says yes--but harrow never apologized. in my opinion, no forgiveness is true if there's no apology. i'd like to see harrow fully recognize her past actions--and, more specifically, how they affected gideon. she's focused a lot on how they impacted herself, but even in the pool scene (as much as i love it) gideon's feelings were mostly sidelined. by harrow taking accountability, both of them can continue their path to healing and growing their relationship. (also, harrow Officially releasing gideon from her duty to the locked tomb as an indentured servant would be really nice. i know with everything going on it's technically moot but i think it would still mean a lot, especially on the road to equalizing their relationship)
gideon and harrow acting as equal partners! we caught the beginnings of this in the second half (especially the end) of gtn, but they haven't really had a chance to flesh (heh) it out since. i'm really looking forward to that!
i really love these characters. they're some of my favorites, ever--and that's saying something, because i've read a lot of books. harrow especially has had some of the most enjoyable character development i've read in a long time. we're in the middle of the series and there's still lots of loose ends to tie up! i just hope this is one of them.
