People aren't mad because John/Arthur aren't canon, people are mad because the creator made fun of the fans that ship them in the Christmas special

I’m just very used to being in bad fandoms where something as small as “I don’t ship them personally” is taken as a homophobic statement, and people have been saying forever if it’s not canon it’ll be queer bait, so I assumed which I maybe shouldn’t have done but with it coinciding with the “John is a child episode” it just made sense

now, I do have to say though, that while I don’t know a whole lot because I’m not on the Patreon, I was for awhile. Again take this with a HEAPING load of salt for that reason since I clearly don’t know the specific situation. Everything I’m going to say I will try to say from an objective viewpoint since I don’t know the situation and will only focus on the facts I do know.

But how is this new? For the karaoke creep special they keep calling it weird to call each other romantic terms. And when Arthur died by not sacrificing the little guy last season Harlan was ROUGH. He said anyone who voted to not sacrifice were children smashing dolls together, that they forgot the story they were in and hopefully this punishment would remind them that actions have consequences. He basically said this is your fault for being stupid. He ended up having to post a semi apology saying it’s eldritch horror story, it’s supposed to be about harshness and not knowing the consequences before hand, and that he teases his audience and that if they don’t like that this isn’t the right show for them. His phobia play through he did a bit as Arthur and John where he was like “and we are NOT doing anything in the shower no matter what the fan fictions say” “let them dream John”

I also would like to mention that word of god should be ignored in these stories and that Harlan does NOT have a PR team. Again I don’t know the situation. I don’t know if he was ad libing live, in which case he should be given more Lee way as self editing in the moment is hard, I don’t know how if he said the most vile stuff alive, or if he said something a little mean but harmless like the “no we are not doing this” “let them dream” or what. Maybe it is bad and he deserves to be roasted, idk.But making jokes about a non canon thing can be a normal thing, especially if it’s a thing people keep bugging you about.

I do know that fandom as a whole has a problem attacking people over though, being someone who frequently got called homophobic for headcanoning single characters as aro, this one specifically has already harassed him about this ship which I’m sure gets annoying, and that he has explicitly said he will poke fun on the Patreon, and that he has said Jarthur won’t happen, and that he is one guy without the means to sort through hate mail removed from situations and doesn’t have a PR team to tell him “hey this off the cuff joke is a bad idea”

all that being said, again I do not know what he said specifically. I think either way a lot of people need to reassess if this is the fandom for them. I’ve seen a lot of people only get into the show for shipping and then get mad when there’s eldritch horror and the attitudes of eldritch horror in the eldritch horror podcast. If he said something that bad then maybe consider getting out since he writes about delicate subjects and it will only get worse. If what he said wasn’t that bad and people are getting mad about being lightly teased but it wasn’t confrontational or homophobic, they might want to leave because that’s just what Harlan does, tease people, and it’s not new and will continue, especially about non canon stuff in his own work. And if you got into and are only staying for the shipping…. Yeah. If that’s the only thing you want maybe it’s time to move on.

and if you decide to stay, know that. Know and be warned ahead of time that you will be teased so it isn’t a surprise next time

edit: so I did get the full context quote and it’s literally just “we want to hang out together alone for Christmas” “platonically, as in canon” “oh of course of course.” This. This isn’t bullying. It’s a little tongue in cheek sure but the whole thing is just saying it isn’t canon. I’ve heard complaints on comments on this post about other stuff he’s done, which I don’t know much about but is also applicable. I did my best to say “either way, this is stuff related.” As someone who writes and has written things before where every single chapter people kept pushing for something I wasn’t going to write I get it. I’m not saying anything he might have done is right but I think it’s understandable at the very least, for a writer to be upset about his stuff being constantly misinterpreted and having fans try to push it where he doesn’t want it.

him reminding people it won’t happen is fine, especially when people keep accusing him of queer baiting. I still think what I said earlier stands even hearing other opinions, because although I can’t say either way, it seems like everyone who is upset says this is a repeated behavior, and if you stay you can’t be surprised by it every time. If it’s going to bug you you have to either be prepared for it to keep happening or leave.

That isn’t to say no one can be upset about anything else but this specific thing I don’t think is worthy of that. All he did was jokingly repeat canon in character (which is much better than like. Someone who keeps hinting at something and never giving it) in a teasing manner. He didn’t say anything negative about shippers, or anything homophobic, just said “hey remember kids, we aren’t into each other like that.” Which is. Fine. It’s annoying but it isn’t malicious.

If the issue is mods or his interactions with people say that. Don’t make it about him light heartedly going “don’t accuse me of queerbaiting.” it makes it so when actual issues like what people are talking about in the comments (if they’re legit, again I try to stay only in the actual content part and abstain from knowing about creators) come up no one takes them seriously because so many molehills were mountained.

If you’re pissed about how he talks to his fans say that, don’t make it about a lack of queer rep when he said day one there wouldn’t be any. Make it about the issue itself. You don’t mention that someone’s a domestic abuser for example after you say “and they have NO CHEESE in their house thats MONSTROUS who does that.” If you want to be taken seriously about a problem you focus on the thing that matters which is. Hurting people.

I guess at the end of the day I’m no one’s boss, but I am tired of not knowing what to believe or not when someone saying something like “no comment” on if characters they wrote are together is homophobia, or a character who’s been Described as a dick acting like one and then the creator gets accused of being shitty (random examples not to do with this specific fandom). If everything is a big deal that makes someone the worst when the subject is not actually hurting anyone… it’s exhausting. Idk anything about Harlan. At the end of the day I’m here for my little horror stories. But I will say definitively that I don’t think it’s bullying to say a ship is not canon and that to act like it is makes it impossible for people who actually care about morals and what someone is doing to keep the energy to stay that way without becoming part of a mob just taking people at their word.

If it upset you I’m sorry, it’s always disappointing when our take on media is dismissed, especially by the creator. And it’s fine to be disappointed. I get that. But don’t blow it out of proportion, and don’t make it about something it isn’t. If you’re upset about the quote say that it’s disappointing without saying it’s punching down. The author is dead and it’s one of the biggest podcast ships out there. If you’re upset about anything else make a post about that issue without tying it to this fun bonus non canon episode. You are allowed to be upset just and if it is about shipping: stop making someone disagreeing with you about a ship a big controversy. You can ship whatever you want regardless of canon and no one is trying to stop jarthur shippers, and if it isn’t about that stop making things about shipping if that’s not what it’s actually about.

Here’s a continuation of the lover’s quarrel going on over here.

All of the air leaves the room when Benjin storms out in his rage, leaving Mallum to throw himself on the couch, deflated. The minute exchange of looks between Veylin and Zurven tells him which quad he will be responsible for looking after.

Veylin follows on the heels of her moirail.

Silence quickly settles between the two that remain in the living room, a silence that Zurven very quickly decides that he does not like. It would be his first time experiencing this sort of heavy silence while in the company of this particular partner.

He prefers his useful boisterous demeanor.

It isn’t as though his own anger for the situation doesn’t weigh heavily on his chest, as if he didn’t have half a mind to swallow back all of the trust he’d poured into him and hole himself in the room until Ben and Vey get back. It’s second nature to run from problems, and ridiculously easy.

But that wouldn’t be fair.

He sighs and sits on the couch next to Mallum, now sitting with his own head in his hands.

“Mal,” Zurven says softly, softer than he expected.

Now worried that he might lose the nerve to talk about it, he fixes his attention on the wall across from them instead. When Mallum doesn’t answer, he sighs again.

“I was… I am so vulnerable with you. I haven’t kept anything from you in a long time.” Suddenly realizing his own hands are too idle, he begins to tap them rhymically on his thighs. “I wish you would do the same.”

There is more silence and Zurven finds the fear that they’ve already lost Mallum constricting around his throat, burning his lungs. This can’t be what kills the trust, that idea tightens and becomes a ball in his stomach.

No way.

“I don’t like getting my news the way that Orfuse did.” He chokes out the second the thought enters his mind. The vision left a bad taste in his mouth, Zerkev’s wrath burned through him white hot. He flexes his fingers as the memory of the trident lingers between them.

At least it wasn’t Harlan. The smug satisfaction might have been enough to kill him.

Zurven blinks the dredges of the vision out of his mind and turns his head to finally look at Mallum again.

Mallum sits there, staring at his own hands, with tears spilling out of his eyes. The seadweller makes no sound, the cry is a silent one.

“It isn’t like that,” he whispers in a voice smaller than he’d ever been. “It isn’t about being vulnerable,” and it almost sounds like he is trying to convince himself of that more than Zurven.

There is silence again, but Zurven cannot stand to let it settle and instead turns to take Mallum’s hand in his. He leans his head on his tear-eyed partner’s shoulder.

“You’ve been good to us, Mal. And Lopard used to tell me that something like that can’t be one way,” he squeezes his hand. “Even if we need it at different times, or if it’s very different things, it doesn’t work if it’s one way. Will you let us be good to you?”

Mallum says nothing, then hesitates before turning to grasp desperately at Zurven’s arm and folding himself into the smaller troll as much as he can. Zurven wastes no time in wrapping his arms around him and holding him so tightly that anyone would be forgiven if they assumed that the position was the only thing keeping the pair from falling apart.

Mallum chokes out a sob that sounds nearly like an apology, Zurven shakes his head and moves to smooth out his hair.

“When he let us go we didn’t have anything. I had, uhm, I had the least of us all. No life to return to…” He hesitates as he speaks, letting his hand drift over and around Mallums fins in order to ground himself. Vulnerability about this point in his life never comes easy. “Even when Harlan took me, I didn’t care if I died because everything at that point was just… People were good to me, but it wasn’t mine.”

Now it is Mallum’s turn to squeeze, but he still says nothing.

“If I can’t be good to you guys, if you think I can’t hold your bad news for you, then what’s the point?”

Mallum’s shoulders shake in time with his sbos, but beyond that another silence falls over them. This time, Zurven gives him the time to collect himself before speaking again.

He is satisfied with the knowledge that Mallum knows what his safety and comfort means to him, that he understands it was no less important than his own, Vey, or Bens.

He kisses the top of Mallum’s head and mumbles into his hair, “I love you. Can you say something? About anything. You’ve never been this quiet before.”

A second passes before he responds.

“I’ve ruined you, you can’t live without me now.” He says with a small laugh, muffled into Zurven’s shoulder.

Then he pauses and reaches to lace their fingers together and very softly whispers, “I love you too.”

THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY - Theory Time!

I came up with a plot line for season 4, and it goes like this...

We know that the girl on the bike is a metaphor for God. So what if she's causing the apocalypse? What if when she says that Klaus can't stay because he doesn't belong, it's because he has the Marigolds inside, and we know that the Marigolds come from Reginald's world, so maybe Heaven as we know it isn't the place where the creatures from other worlds (not humans) can go after dying, and that's why Klaus ends up in the Void instead of Heaven. We never see Klaus meeting Ben on the other side, and when he talks to Reginald in S1, it's the little girl who points him in another direction (probably away from heaven) and the girl isn't really sure if she made Klaus, she says "I made everything so I must have made to you too" maybe she can feel that there is something inhuman about Klaus and that's why she doesn't like him. I mean, all the "I don't like you so I won't let you go to heaven" It seems a bit drastic, when you realize that Klaus isn't that bad of a person, apart from drug addiction and the “troublemaker” part.

So the plot goes like this: it's not really Viktor that causes the apocalypse, it's God, but... because of Reginald.

She knows that someone has come along and created an imbalance in the world she created, therefore, "You're not supposed to be here," she keeps saying. "You can't stay." Or if you don't want to say that it’s God doing, you can say that the apocalypse is happening because of all of them, because of Reginald coming to earth and because of the Umbrellas and Sparrows having the Marigold when they were supposed to be normal children.

If this is the case, then ending the show like it ended in S3, with them without powers, and just living a normal life, no powers, no apocalypse, and just them as a family, going on with their lives, would have been perfect. But since that was the ending of the last season, and it's not (or at least I hope they don't re-use it) going to be the same ending. I think they'll get their powers back.

So if Klaus dies again, which is very possible, and he regains his powers. i think he could come back and that, coupled with Reginald's domination of this world, could trigger another apocalypse (especially if Klaus wants revenge, after last season's betrayal). All of this could result in the siblings getting their powers back and realizing that for the world to be safe, they can't be together.

And Five will have to divide them into timelines.

For example: Sloane and Luther could stay in the present but maybe not on the earth, maybe they’d decide to go to the Moon together. Allison wouldn't care as long as she has Ray and Claire. Diego and Lila could go to the 80s. Viktor could ask to go back to Sissy and Harlan in the 60s.

I don’t know where Ben and Klaus would go, but I would like them to stick together. And Five would definitely go way back in time, since we know that the Commission's quarters are located in 1950.

So that would be the end of the show. The siblings say their goodbyes and then get scattered through time. Only maybe when the timeline intersects, they would check on each other, make sure they're okay, but never get all together again.

And Five grows old, watching them from the Commission Switchboard, watching them live their lives, and is glad to see them happy. He has done a good job. The world is safe. He was a good brother. And maybe in the way, he found a partner, named Dolores (real human)

But even if they all had the life they wanted, they still miss each other. And will forever do.

Silver Ash: Chapter 3

Summary: While Mariana struggles to come to terms with Raiden's unwilling sacrifice, Raiden awakens in confinement--but a chance at escape may be within reach.

The Council is doing everything they can to distract her—all while trying to maintain that nothing of note had happened. Ever since she became the Lady of Shadewick just shy of a year ago, her days had been packed with lessons and meetings, but there had always been time in between to collect her thoughts.

The day after the Offering, Mariana is kept so busy that she has little time to wonder about Raiden. To wonder if he’s still breathing. To wonder if he is still fighting to survive. To wonder if he is now at peace with the mysterious knowledge of what becomes of the forest’s Offerings. But any time she tries to think, she is pulled into a new task.

Councilor Harlan wasn’t to quiz her on history. Councilor Sierra wants her to sit in on meetings with Shadewick’s farmers. Councilor Gabrielle wants to study her etiquette. Councilor Koan wants to review her self-defense training—he claims she is in the most danger from civilians after an Offering.

Mariana had woken up that morning with tears in her eyes and an itinerary by her breakfast tray. The Council means well. They know Raiden meant something to her, but in all their efforts to make her avoid thoughts of him, she cannot mourn properly. She knows better than to attempt to discuss the matter directly with them. She had argued with them for hours when he was chosen, to no avail.

In a rare act of defiance, she takes a detour on the way to Gabrielle’s study. Mariana’s etiquette is impeccable, anyway. But being late to a meeting isn’t very proper at all, is it, my lady? She pauses, gripping the stair railway while she chokes back tears. Although she hasn’t thought about Raiden properly, his voice still whispers in her ear, like he is strolling right behind her. She sets her lips in a hard line and makes her way through the castle courtyard.

Blessedly, no one sees her. She had told Eloise, her lady-in-waiting, to meet her on the other side of the castle—where Mariana had no intention of going. That’s not very proper either, my lady. I should start keeping a tally.

Exactly what he would say.

Yes, Raiden could be flippant about important matters, and he had the gall to tease her ruthlessly, but at least he never put up an act around her. He was always himself, for better or worse. Unapologetically himself. It made him one of the few people she could truly talk to, especially after her mother died. Everyone else behaved as though they’d be the next Offering if they insulted her in any way.

Considering Raiden’s sacrifice, perhaps they were right.

She reaches the bridge to the Silver Ash and cranes her neck to take in the sight. Its highest branches stretch even taller than the castle itself. It can be seen from just about anywhere in Shadewick—a permanent fixture that either brought a sense of peace or foreboding, depending on who was looking at it. The tree is surrounded on all sides by a lake filled with lily pads and koi fish, some of which gather near the bridge to follow Mariana as she crosses it.

“Sorry,” she murmurs. “No food today.” It is the sort of thing Raiden would be more likely to remember.

As she steps off the bridge and onto the island that is home to the Silver Ash, it is as though she is walking into a new environment entirely. The thick roots weave in and out of the earth, sturdy as regular trees. The impressive width of the trunk could hold several rooms within if it were hollow. Vibrant green leaves blot out the sun, casting the island in pleasant shade. Mariana takes a familiar path to the other side of the tree, ducking below and around the roots, her heart heavy with loss.

Her mother would bring her here when they wanted a quiet moment. Even after her passing, Mariana returned almost daily to speak with her. She had died shortly after last year’s offering. The illness had been sudden—so sudden and violent that Mariana was certain there had been some mistake with the Offering, and Shadewick was being punished for it. Her mother had suffered for a few short days, unable to draw a full breath. And then she was gone, leaving Mariana with her title.

Thankfully, the Council has guided her. From the moment of her birth, they have been her second family, but now, she works more closely with them. She still has much to learn.

“Hello, Mama.” Mariana takes her usual seat on one of the arching roots at the base of the Silver Ash. She smoothes her dress on her lap and gazes at the spot across from her, where her mother had once lounged. “I… I don’t understand why it had to happen this way.” Her voice breaks off in a pitiful whine. “Was it a random selection? Was it punishment for what we did? Oh, Mama. It isn’t as if Raiden wants to marry me. We aren’t like that. It was one night. One night without rules before the Council begins to line up well-bred suitors for me.”

Not even a breeze stirs the leaves in answer. She always hopes her mother is listening. But she has never heard an answer.

She thinks about speaking aloud to Raiden instead, but her heart shatters at the thought of receiving no sign from him as well. Yesterday, she visited him in the dungeon. She wants to curl into herself at the thought of their final conversation.

The guard had given her ten minutes to speak with him. Her heart broke at the sight of Raiden behind bars. It seemed cruel to cage someone so full of life. It hurt especially to see how his eyes lit up at her approach as if she might tell him there had been a mistake and he was free to go back to living his life.

She took his hands and squeezed them, praying he would understand. “I’m sorry. The forest wants you. The Council insists.”

His expression twisted with disgust. “The forest. The forest doesn’t know I exist.”

A little sob shook through her. “Raiden…”

“Mari,” he said, viciously mimicking her miserable tone. “The forest isn’t a creature or god or anything other than trees and dirt. You hear me? Trees and dirt and monsters, Mari. It cares about me as much as your potted plants do.”

Her mouth went dry. He easily read the horror in her expression and scoffed.

“Oh, what?” Raiden rolled his eyes. “Blasphemy is a completely unreasonable reaction.”

“You can’t speak in such a way,” she whispered. “The forest—”

“Already claimed my blood, according to you and the Council. So what does it matter what I say about it? What will it do? Kill me a second time?”

“It might make you suffer.” She shook her head helplessly. “I don’t have the answers, Raiden. No one does. If you accept your choosing as an honor, the maybe—”

“What if I fought back instead? What if there was a way to survive?”

“What?”

“Why does it have to be a guarantee that I die in there?” When she gaped at him wordlessly, he pressed on. “I didn’t want to tell you this. I knew it would freak you out, but… Do you remember Tove?”

“The hunter?” Trove had been an Offering some years ago when Mariana and Raiden were no more than ten. “What does he have to do with this?”

“She,” Raiden said pointedly. “She has everything to do with this, if you’d listen.”

“She,” Mariana said. “She was a huntress, wasn’t she? She got into trouble for hunting in the Havenwood more than once. The Council says the Silver Ash chose her for her disrespect. That the forest wanted her in return for the blood she had spilled illegally. Why are you bringing her up?”

He clenched her jaw and gave her a hard look—the kind of look that pleaded for understanding. “I saw her at the Silver Ash a few months ago, in the dead of night. She was collecting leaves from it. I followed her. She went into Havenwood and slipped past a breach in the wall, back into the forest.”

“That’s… impossible.”

“It’s not. It was her, I know it. She looked… different. I swear, Mari, I saw her. She had flowers in her hair—so big that they covered half her face. She saw me right before she went through the wall. She took one look at me, then ran off.”

“Maybe it was a dream,” Mariana said. “You know that no Offering has ever been seen again.”

“It wasn’t a dream. Am I mad, then?”

She leaned forward, resting her forehead against the bars. This was already hard enough without Raiden’s desperate hope thrown into the situation. “I… I don’t know what you saw,” she said gently. “But if you did see her—”

“And I did.”

“Maybe the forest uses her body as a vessel.”

“Great,” he muttered. “So even if I survive, I’ll be the forest’s puppet. Is that what you believe? Is that what I should be so honored about?”

“I’m sorry.” She squeezed his hand tighter. “I wish there was another way. Believe me, I tried with the Council, but they—”

“Oh, please. You know exactly why this is happening.” He was the one clutching her tightly now. “We were seen, Mari. I told you we were. I swore I saw a guard peeking into your bedchamber. You didn’t listen to me then, either. He went and spread the news, and now the Council has a perfect target to get rid of without fuss. I sullied the perfect Lady of Shadewick.”

“That’s not true! We… Even if we were seen, the Council has nothing to do with your choosing. The Silver Ash may be displeased by what we did.”

He gave her a thoroughly exhausted and disgusted look. It made her feel childish. He had never looked at her in such a way, through all his years of teasing. “Mari. Listen to yourself. Why would a tree care if we fucked?”

She shushed him. “We don’t know the intricate nature of the Silver Ash. It is beyond our comprehension, and we don’t need to understand its choices. We simply must obey, or the walls of Shadewick will no longer protect us.”

“Okay. So let’s say the Silver Ash abhors what we did. Why was my name chosen? Why not yours? What would you do if your name was whispered to the Council instead?”

Mariana yanked her hands away sharply and took a step back. “I would walk into the forest with my head held high,” she snapped, but her eyes filled with more tears. “I would die happy knowing that my sacrifice is protecting my people. I would take the sleeping draught without fuss.”

Strangely, his expression softened with pity. “You’re one of the brightest people I know,” he said. “You excel at every subject, you’re quick as a whip in so many things. How can you be stupid enough to believe these lies?”

“Raiden—”

“No. Fuck the Council. And fuck you.”

He refused to speak to her at all after that, and she had no choice but to leave when the guard said her ten minutes were up.

Fuck the Council. And fuck you.

She squeezed her eyes shut. His words echo in her ears, taunting her. She should be furious that he would speak to her in such a way, but all she feels is hollow. She looks up at the Silver Ash and runs her fingers along the thick grooves of the bark.

Collecting leaves. Raiden claimed the Offered huntress had been collecting leaves. Why?

Her gaze trails further, to the castle, to the surrounding buildings that lead into the main city. And beyond that, there are fields and homes. All of it, surrounded by the forest that is being kept at bay with a yearly Offering.

This is her home. Her people.

All her life, her mother taught her that sacrifices are necessary to keep their home protected. There have been a few breaches in the walls over the years, but nothing compared to what would happen if they angered the Silver Ash and allowed the beasts in. She recalls seeing the aftermath of a man torn apart by monsters following a breach. In her mind’s eye, she sees a massacre—and it would be all her fault.

She wasn’t lying when she said she would accept her fate if she was the Offering.

And yet, it pained her so deeply to watch Raiden as he was led out of the dungeon and into the carriage, bound for death. Per custom, Mariana was the one to administer the sleeping draught that would knock him out before he reached the ritual ground. It would leave him prone to whatever the forest had planned for him.

But something snapped in her—something she can’t explain even now. When no one was looking, she switched the draught for water. She whispered for him to pretend to sleep until he was left alone.

And she isn’t sure if she can ever forgive herself.

“Why did you let him run off in the first place?” The first voice is unfamiliar and unsettlingly close. “It shouldn’t have been hard for you to collect him.”

“I don’t know. He was annoying.” The second voice is more distant and unsettlingly familiar. “I found him in the end, didn’t I?”

Raiden fades in and out to the sound of the conversation. His mind is being held firmly underwater, and no matter how he tries to surface, he can’t find the strength to become fully aware.

“He would have been less annoying if he was asleep,” the first voice scoffs. “How did he wake up so soon? Did those dolts brew the sleeping draught wrong?”

“You’re asking a lot of questions.”

The second voice is undoubtedly the giant. His rumbling tone comes closer, drastically overpowering the other’s voice. Raiden is aware he is being touched, moved, and tugged at, but he can’t resist or murmur a word of protest. His injury prickles at times, but he isn’t awake enough to feel more than a dull ache.

Finally, the touches stop, and he hears no more of the conversation.

He dreams of the river lady and yearns to dive with her under the rushing current. He never wants to wake up, knowing he’ll find a world where she left him behind.

But he does wake up, whether he likes it or not. The voices have fallen silent. When he squints his eyes open, there is no sky, no trees overhead. Somehow, he’s indoors. The faint rustle of branches and leaves permeates through the walls. A steady wind is blowing somewhere.

He is laying on his good side—the one that wasn’t torn by a boar’s tusk. Through bleary vision and shaking fingers, he surmises that he’s laying on a roughspun blanket. His injury smarts as he pushes himself to sit, and he locks up in pain.

After braving the ordeal of moving to hands and knees, he notices that his shirt has mysteriously vanished. His abdomen is wrapped in cloth bandages. He brushes his fingers over the wrappings, disturbed by the thought of someone maneuvering him while he was unconscious. The phantom sensation of large fingers trapping him in their grip makes him snap to sharper attention.

He expects to find the giant looming straight over him, but the reality of his surroundings makes his mouth go dry.

Bars. Wooden bars, thicker than his arm, surround him. He freezes, staring straight ahead at one side of his cage.

It’s alright, he tells himself hurriedly. Wood. It’s wood. He can manipulate it and free himself, so long as the giant doesn’t catch him in the act.

Crawling to the nearest wall of his enclosure, he peers out.

The room is massive—a structure made of stone and wood that has doors leading off to who-knew-where. There’s no telling how big this place is, and it’s all the more difficult to get a read on anything when it all appears to be sized for a leshy. The walls themselves are a mixture of bark and rock, as if the building itself was grown and shaped from the ground up to create a refined dwelling fit for a giant.

This space appears to be a parlor of sorts. His cage is high off the ground, situated on what must be a table. On the other side of the room, there is one seat in front of a roaring fireplace. It’s somewhat comforting to see that lone seat—a sign that there is only a single giant tenant to deal with.

There is no question to whom this dwelling belongs when he spots the deer mask propped on the mantle. The empty sockets seem to spy on his every move even now.

Tenderly pushing himself to his feet, Raiden winces. He’s been treated and bandaged, but he still feels like he was trampled by a horse. His earthen abilities will not come so easily in this state.

He circles the cage to find the largest gap to make his escape. There is no time to wonder how he will get down from the table—not when he finally looks directly behind him and realizes that it isn’t wind that he’s been hearing.

The giant has been at the table all along, right behind him. A small noise chokes in Raiden’s throat, but he clamps a hand over his mouth to stifle the noise.

There is silence, save for the leshy’s steady breathing. His arms are folded on the table, head down. Sleeping.

Eyes wide, Raiden slowly lowers his hand and struggles to get a hold of himself. It hadn’t even occurred to him that a monster so archaic could sleep. In this state, the leshy looks almost harmless. Handsome, even, with that peaceful look on his face. Those imposing eyes are shut, and without the deer antlers to give him extra height, he appears more human than ever before.

If there is ever going to be a time to get away, it is now. The moment the giant opens his eyes, there is no telling if he’ll get another opportunity.

Raiden white-knuckles two bars of the cage and lowers his head in concentration. Dead wood is harder to influence than live, but impossibly, it appears that this wood is very much alive. He snaps his hands away from it and looks down. The bars were grown straight up from the table itself—which must also be a piece of living wood.

The leshy has utterly manipulated the forest to do his bidding, going so far as to craft an entire home, furniture, and a makeshift Offering cage to keep Raiden contained while he naps.

He counts it lucky that the bars respond to his call. They curve apart, allowing him space to pass between. He keeps his eyes on the giant as he steps through, half-certain that tampering with the leshy’s creation will jolt him awake. But the giant goes on sleeping, entirely unaware that his newest captive is free.

Traveling with the softest steps he can manage, Raiden jogs to the edge of the table farthest from the leshy and looks over the side. The floor seems miles away, he notes with frustration. He wracks his mind to think how he can manipulate the ground or table to get him down, but he can’t influence the wood any further without risking unconsciousness. He may be able to jump to a chair, but much like seating by the fireplace, this table only has one—and the giant is occupying it.

“Your reclusiveness is incredibly inconvenient,” Raiden hisses, throwing the leshy a scowl.

He explores the perimeter of the table, but it’s all useless until he reaches the giant. As Raiden glares at the monster, a horrifically stupid plan takes form. He tries to push it away, but the longer he stands there, the surer he is that there is only one possible way to the floor without immediately dooming himself.

And he hates it.

Part of him wishes that the leshy will wake up right that instant and make his plan dissolve before he can even attempt. As Raiden inches closer, there is no change.

Up close, he feels the faint stir of the giant’s breath through his slightly parted lips. The tiny leafed vines appear in sharper detail on his face. The vegetation seems to weave in and out of his skin—it’s hard to tell where hair ends and leaves begin. Raiden vaguely wonders if it hurts to have vines torn away from his skin, not that he has any intention to sate that particular curiosity

Holding his breath, Raiden stretches out a trembling hand and rests it on the giant’s sleeve. He pulls back sharply and takes a peek at the too-close face. No movement. Not even a twitch or stutter in breathing. Nothing more than a deceptively peaceful expression.

Perhaps he really can get away with this.

Urgency surges through him. If he doesn’t move now, he will lose his chance. He grips the fabric near the giant’s elbow with more confidence. His wound aches sharply, but he stuffs the pain down. Gritting his teeth, he pulls himself up and begins inching his way toward the giant’s side.

Did you think climbing down a sleeping giant would be one of the great honors of being an Offering, Mari?

malevolent theories and predictions too unhinged to post in the discord pt 1 (rampant spoilers for everything thru part 29)

i've seen this one around, but it's my favorite pet theory: Kayne is a christian entity. everyone's convinced he's the crawling chaos and that's far more likely, but hear me out: he chose the name Cain. at one point he mutters about a Lilith, another very important figure in christian lore. when John says "jesus fucking christ" Kayne snaps back "present and accounted for." he really wants John to take Arthur to the order of the fallen star, and what we know about the order is: it hides in plain sight (what's more plain sight than the church?) and Larson is a member. Larson, who met Collins in a confessional during Prelude. i'm just saying! (this is the only one that has any evidence btw the rest are just me vibing)

the reason Arthur is special is because he has the blood of an eldritch god in his lineage. we know that Amanda Cummings and Anna Stanczyk were pulled into the ritual because their blood was the blood that began the ritual to unleash Shub-Niggurath 600 years ago. so blood is canonically important, and we know absolutely zero about Arthur's family or heritage. plus, Kayne says anyone else would've died during the ritual, which means Arthur was a stronger vessel than a normal human. why is he able to hold onto his sanity so well, and why is he able to host john without dying? cuz he's a little eldritch himself???

even more unhinged: Arthur actually became the missing part of the king this whole time, and the voice in his head is just a way for him to cope. (the Trader saw two of them and had no reason to lie about that, so i don't believe this one's actually true, but it's fun to think about)

Arthur's parents: they were either into eldritch stuff, or they didn't kill themselves, they were murdered to push Arthur along his path

i don't think Kayne lies as much as people think he does; like most tricksters i think he has fun with the truth just as much as lies. for example, he says to Arthur, "No, you’re not caught, you’ll leave alive, and alone and and and… afraid." this is all true! Arthur does leave alive and alone and afraid. so i believe when he says, "John’s grown, he’s regretting, he’s a hero now. He’s gonna sacrifice himself for you, obviously" this is Harlan is directly foreshadowing endgame (or maybe just a season finale, and then Arthur has to go to the Dark World)

next season we're going to a different plane. Arthur and John are going to try to stop an Order ritual and get their asses sucked into Leng or R'lyeh or some shit (alternatively this will be the point where john sacrifices himself, and Arthur has to go after him, possibly with yellow in his head again cuz you know Larson's gonna be there)

OR it's Arthur who gets sucked into the other plane/goes away, and next season we get John and Yellow together sharing a body having to go save Arthur (this is less of a theory and more of a dream, god i'd be so happy if this happened)

the booth entity. at some point somewhere, harlan said this was "the patrons versus a malevolent entity." who the fuck is the booth entity, and is that the same malevolent entity we're up against? was harlan being metaphorical and meant he the DM is the malevolent entity? (would not be surprised; isn't that all DMs really?) but Kayne put such a fucking emphasis on choice, and Arthur's entire existential spiral that's been going on since part 11 about choice vs predestination has been one of the central themes of the whole narrative. will the 4th wall break down entirely between booth john, patrons, and the narrative?? logistically i'd say no since it's behind a paywall and how would you engage the free listeners with that content, but my heart says absolutely yes this is where we're going.

After dating you. You being all happy and always looking at the bright side of everything, always being there for Viktor. Being on Harlans side as well as his. Viktor was very happy. He was leas anxious around you. You made him see colors again. You always responded to your texts. Always texted him too. So when you didn’t respond for a day, you can imagine how worried he got.

Viktor was pacing back and forth. He was a nervous wreck. He was also trying to comfort Alison, who was grieving her non existent daughter. Viktor was trying to keep it together. His mind rushing with thoughts. „What if their hurt?”, „What if their..” no, he didn’t wanna think about it. He would have never forgave himself if you had died a tragic way. After Sissy, if he lost you he’d have lost everything.

Alison looked at him. Knowing that he was worried, she sat up to face him. „Hey, whats wrong?", she raised an eyebrow as Viktor shot his head up. „Nothing, just worried about y/n.” He mumbled and then bit his „I haven’t seen them in a while..nor have i gotten a text back.” Viktor sat down on his bed and looked at his sister. „You can go look for them, you don’t need to baby me.” Alison said, she tried to give off a smile. Viktor mumbled a quick ’thank you.’

You had just got your ass whipped by the ’Sparrows’. They knew that you were in league with ‘The Umbrellas’ as they called them. You kept saying that you don’t have Marcus. They didn’t buy that one. Ben being the meanest, he had punched you a couple of times. Sloane, let you escape. Babbling apologies and looking at you with guilt and pity. You shrugged it off and smiled. Closing the gate behind you.

You made it to the hotel finally. stumbling in. Viktor was just about to walk out to look for you. His eyes widened at the sight of you. Bloodied lips and nose. your shoulders have new bruises and a couple cuts. Viktor couldn’t believe that you could be smiling right now. He grabbed your hand and hurried you to the mens bathroom. Making sure no one was inside he asked you to sit on the sinks.

You of course obliged and he went and got some first aid. He got some spray to disinfect the wound and looked at you. „This may sting a bit sweetheart.” He mumbled and looked at you. He sprayed it onto some open wounds and you grimaced at the sting.

You could tell that poor Viktor felt bad bout hurting you. He was silent. His mind was racing with regret and guilt. He couldn’t help but just look at you and frown. ”I promise i wont let you get hurt again.” He said and he put his hand on your cheek lightly. “Who did this to you?”, he asked. once he found out it was the Sparrows, he was mad, and a bit betrayed. He had just talked with Marcus? Why would he hurt his partner?

“Its okay.”, you grin and look at him. You kissed his hand and he instantly felt butterflies. He gives you his awkward crooked grin and you giggle. You hop off the sink and then walked back to your room. Alison no where to be found. Viktor sat on the bed, you sat right next to him. He was still a bit awkward with his touches, but he laid down, and you did too. He embraced you and smiled.

He kissed your head and you smiled. ”I love you.”, you say and he smiled and sighed happily. ”I love you too.”

Umbrella Academy Season 3 Spoilers Thoughts:

(Okay, actually, this might be an Allison bitchfest in the notes. And well, some other general bitching - because some characters made me so annoyed - but generally speaking I really really REALLY loved this season)

Season 4 Five needs to go apeshit, seriously, all of his shitty little siblings give him so much shit like he's supposed to know everything. I wouldn't put it against him to just leave their asses if something else comes up.

Allison REALLY REALLY pissed me off this season. It's not that I don't get her trauma, but the constant belittling of everyone else's trauma? Fuck that. I don't know where I stand with her after this Season, while she was one of my faves in the last two.

NO, I'm sorry Harlen didn't deserve to die. And LMAO. Excuse fucking me, but if the Academies went after him after the vote, he would have killed them all. Seriously, so many of these characters pissed me off this season. And yes, I do give certain characters more of a pass to be murderous (ie. Five and Lila) but the rest of them? Like, holy fuck, y'all are BABIES at this time traveling thing. And Victor wanting to protect Harlan (BECAUSE HE PROBABLY SAW HIM AS A SON - is not fucking selfish and is not a BETRAYAL). Viktor was responsible for Claire's death by mistake. Allison murdered Harlan for not having control of something he didn't choose to have. The fact that she feels right and doesn't feel sorry? Yeah, fuck off with that, what a piece of shit. This whole season has been a testament to how little Allison cares about her family and that's very disappointing. (I'm liable to think the last time jump really fucked with her head because ??? This is just too much)

Allison just being so fucking manipulative. Using her love against her family, like fuck off, the amount of times Five has had to deal with that shit and hasn't murdered a family's loved one. Allison really gave me vibes that she would kill anyone for her kid, even if it's another kid. And I don't know what's going to happen with her but yeah. There's a lot she needs to apologize for.

At the end of it though, even though I get her (the events of her life after the first apocalypse seem unreal and it's easy how she could lose sight of whats wrong or right) I'm really mad at her.

I am happy she got her happy ending though. (Presumably)

omg, almost forgot. What she was going to do to Luther. Jfc. Like, holy shit. I really hope they acknowledge all this in the next season.

Okay, and another thing, that shit she said about Viktor betraying her trust? LMAO. What a laugh, as if the whole family hadn't done that to him his whole life???? Viktor lies ONCE? And oooooo, I can never trust you. Fuck off with that bullshit. (If I were Viktor I'd never trust her again)

Honestly the whole fam was being held by a thread, which this time was Klaus, the last two times it was Five. But you know what, old man, you do you, fuck these hoes, you deserve to retire.

The way that Five was just ready to accept death because at least he wouldn't be the only one alive.

Luther instantly falling in love with Sloan, is well... makes sense. Both of them are so lonely, smart, and naive. lmao They quite honestly deserve each other 10/10. Never did like Allison/Luther (just a boring relationship)

I also love Allison/Ray and thought they brought out the best out of each other, so if she gets to be with him and her daughter, then I'll accept it. (Hope it wasn't just an illusion or something)

Wish Five's relationship with Deloras wasn't a constant joke. And quite honestly happy that Sparrow chick (the one who does the spitting) died, cause -shrugs- what can I say, not impressive.

I was ready for all Sparrows to die. Glad Ben and Sloan lived, wish bird lady lived in the end, I liked her and she actually seemed to care about her family.

YO, REGGIE IS PURE EVIL. The man is just EVIL. I mean, I think he expected Allison to kill him, and somehow that gets him to be with his wife, but I wonder what his original plan was. LMAO. Really hope they have a new season.

That said, Reg and Klaus hanging out was hilarious, still fucked up, but lmao, I think Klaus is at least used to so much fucked up shit in his life where he can practice his power.

But also, why was Klaus dead in the apocalypse??? Did he just choose to stay dead and never knew Five was there? So sad.

There was just so much Five hanging out in ordinary situations. A+++ HIS SPEECH. (I'm sorry but Five just deserves a better family, ffs)

Five and Victor need more time together, because they are about the only sensible siblings and actually care about their family despite their issues...

I love my babe Lila, she reminds me of Vala mal Doran, same chaotic energy - same accent too. LOVE the idea of her and Five being besties. And LOVE that she found out about the Handler killing her and Five rewinding time.

Five being the Commission's founder???? So many questions???? I don't get it, I don't get why he would want Five to accept the apocalypse, maybe there's something even worse next season???? These people never really learn. lmao. They spent how many episodes talking about the briefcase and Marcus, meanwhile, the man's been dead the whole time, and the briefcase has been with them forever. Hilarious when Luther comes back and no one's noticed he's gone.

All in all, this felt like a family breaks up season, which is sad. I hope next season (lord help me) is them coming together.

But as stated before, I NEED Five to go apeshit. And also for actual acknowledgment of HIS traumas. Like??? Same could be said for Klaus. I can totally see why fandom falls on these two, because the rest of the family literally just makes fun of them the whole time. Meanwhile I have to listen to Allison and Luther's issues the whole 3 seasons and want to throw something. Viktor's issues? Good shit. Transformative. Diego? Also transformative. Allison and Luther? I mean, probably, but meh.

I miss the Commission. I miss older Five. It's good to see Reggie in a bigger role. Cause I really fell for his manipulative bullshit. Which is nice! That seems to be a common villain in this story. Hardcore manipulation. I like that.

ANYWAY. Loved the trans rep. Viktor was placed in seamlessly. It was really beautiful. Loved Harlan, was super excited for him to have powers in the end of Season 2. Loved the wacky scenes where everyone is just partying and FIVE is involved.

Jessica who?

Don't like their Mom being cast aside, and it's so interesting how Pogo finally takes a stand against Reggie in this timeline. It just comes way later and at the end doesn't save anyone. Because he's just gone.

Can't think of anymore right now, so I'll leave it there. lmaooo. Lots of complaining, but complaints just stand out to me, and it's not really about the writing. Just SUPER annoyed at the characters. oof. The family dynamics just feel less this season. Granted, no one's had leisure time, so they're all prime assholes right now, hell even Five was keeping most shit to himself the first season. (But Five is at least progressing at quite a quick pace considering he's been fighting of apocalypse after apocalypse within a month, I believe?)

TUA S3 thoughts - SPOILERS AHEAD

Gotta say that I’ve finished watching s3 like last week and it’s still the only thing I can think about. This fandom burst into my brain yet another time (along with my undying love for Robert Sheehan) and I wasn’t ready AT ALL. That being said, here’s some thoughts for this season because i have to share this somewhere so humour me

Again, big, huge spoilers ahead!!

Loved this season. If felt much more personal and emotional than s2, though I must say that for now nothing beats s1 mood.

I felt like the sparrow academy had a lot of potential, which has been exploited a bit but not completely. Marcus’ death was so sudden, and when also Jayme and Alphonso and Stan died, I really hoped TUA would somehow invert the damage and bring everyone back to life. Especially after what happened to Mr Pennycrumb. :(

Loved the dance scenes. There’s a dance scene in every season and I LOVE THAAATTT + bonus points for making the dance scene in e1 diego’s hidden wish lol

So I watched the whole season in Italian and I’ll definitely do a rewatch in English but when I’ve found an article stating that apparently Aidan spoke Italian when meeting Dolores I had to watch it because you don’t notice it in the Italian version!!! And it’s so cute!!!! I’m shocked!!!! I didn’t know Five pictured Dolores as Italian?? Are there other scenes like this that I don’t know of???? When did Five learn to speak Italian??? I LOVED THIS

I’ve read some criticism for this season because it has some nonsense scenes, plus a whole episode just about Luther and sloane’s wedding. I feel that, but I don’t agree - I loved those moments because we get to see more of these characters when they’re not trying to save the world. They’re carefree, and relaxed. We get to know their dance moves (not imagined by Diego this time), we get to see drunk Five (again) trying to give a speech to his brother, we have hugs, and warm words, and drunk Ben being the same old Ben again. So yeah I loved that, I’d watch an entire series of them just doing nothing

Still need to know the reason behind Christopher existence tho

Speaking of the wedding, I love Luther and Sloane!! Luther was a total himbo this season, and now I care so much about him. He changed a lot. At first I didn’t see his relationship with Sloane particularly well (c’mon, another sister??), but then she’s not really his sister like Allison was, was she? So it’s basically almost like Diego and Lila relationship

So yeah now LutherxSloan definitely beats AllisonxLuther

Before diving into S3 Allison rant, I’m gonna say that despite Lila is totally bonkers I love her and she and Diego are perfect for each other. Can’t wait for Dad!Diego!!!!

So yeah, Allison. I kinda hated her this season, but what she went through made me stop from totally hating her. Her siblings did kinda dismiss her pain, even if they were worried about her. Tho if it were Viktor in her place, probably everyone would have rushed to comfort him more than they ever did with Allison. Tho her pain doesn’t really justify what she did to Luther (such a dramatic scene, so painful to watch) and to Harlan. And what she said to Viktor. So yeah. It’s complicated. The fact that at the end of the season she has everything she ever wanted while the others have nothing………I think it’s gonna be a huge thing

And now let’s go to my beautiful, beautiful Klaus!!!!! I LOVED HIM SM this season omg. How he was so resolute to find his mom and what happened to her, and how he wanted to help reggie so much!!! Despite everything!!! He could have gladly abandoned him after everything he did to him (and maybe he should have)

I love his powers and can’t wait to see what else he can do

I was absolutely destroyed by the fact that despite his numerous trips to the other side, there was not a trace of Dave. That would mean he’s alive maybe??? but it’s a Dave that hasn’t really known Klaus and that hasn’t fallen in love with him. Their story is so dramatic and I LOVE IT AND THEM and I really, really hope they have an happy ending in s4 and the writers don’t totally dismiss them because otherwise what was the meaning of s2????

We only got a small whisper from Klaus when he came back from the dead for the first time. A small, anguished “Dave” + klaus clutching the metal tags. That’s it. That’s all we got this season. I’m starving.

Tho again, I loved how Klaus’ focus for this season was his family rather than his lover. We got to know him more in depth and his relationship with his father and the fear of his powers and all that so yeah I can accept this. Still I hoped until the very end to get a crumble of Klave :(

There are many other things but I need a rewatch!! Let me know if you guys have theories!!! I need more theories for s4 otherwise I’d make some myself and no one is gonna like that and I don’t have the energy to come up with some sense for this season lol

TUA S3 (spoilers)

first of all, holy shit????? like holy shit!!! this was by-far the most incredible season, in terms of acting, cgi, characterisation, sound and music, cinematography -- just intense and overwhelming and gripping and I ate it up in less than a day but anyways here are some of my specific thoughts, haphazardly listed and unsolicited:

viktor coming out and how it was handled was A++ like everyone was normal and chill and so readily accepting with some appropriate humour thrown in but also everyone still gave him shit regardless LMAO

like five "proud of u Viktor, ur an idiot though"

Five "pull this shit again and viktor, ill kill u myself" Hargreeves everybody, supportive but threatening

idk how to feel abt five telling viktor he's there for him but also telling him he'll kill him like??? asshole but I love him regardless, no-- because of it

on that note, never deadnaming viktor even in the heat of a brutal argument isn't something to be praised like it is -- it was a relief that no one deadnamed him even though they were furious and hurt ngl but also this is how its supposed to be!! bare minimum!! u dont deadname trans people even if, especially if, ur pissed at them

tua did an outstanding job handling viktor coming out, A+ for that, could not have asked for better

Luther wanting to give viktor mini sandwiches and throw him a brotherhood party!!! good!!

also that flashback of Allison telling viktor she'd love him no matter what juxtaposed with Allison telling viktor they should've left him in the basement: yikes

AND OMFG ALLISON!!! S3 ALLISON HARGREEVES!! ive genuinely never been more sacred for or of a fictional character like her actress, Emmy, was absolutely phenomenal

characters who're "good" and calm and always say/advocate for the "right" thing and are depended on to be, like, the glue of a group -- these characters falling apart in catastrophic ways will always be a fav of mine because thats Allison Hargreaves man she fell apart catastrophically and her hurt came at the expense of everyone

idc what anyone says I love how Allison was characterised this season I love how she was pushed to her breaking point and fucking broke: she lost her daughter in season 1 because she kept rumouring her rather than parenting her, and she didn't rumour in season 2 until she did and she went mad with power (not that I disagree with who that power was used against, yes queen make the racists burn themselves), and in season 3 she really, really fell into the depths of her power and self-destruction. she used it against viktor (good parallel to that season 1 confrontation in the cabin), used her power against Harlan to kill him, used it on herself

the Luther SA scene was fucked up and unnecessary imo and I had to skip it when I realized where it was going but again: holy fucking shit

also Allison trying to use her powers on herself??? to rumour herself to be happy?? yeah that was fucking heartbreaking like shit

again: Emmy's acting was spectacular like all the dark, hard looks, the screaming "shut your mouth," the breaking-down-and-sobbing just everything like I cannot applaud enough

okay Diego and Lila and Stan and the unborn baby was Wow. A Thing. Very Lila and Diego like ngl and Stan rlly did grow on me and then he fucking got obliterated but seeing Diego come to grips with being a father was so good; at first, he pushed Stan away and out of his sight bc he was busy and had other, more important things to worry about but then Stan came to him for affection and hugged him and cried in front of him when Klaus died and just!! it was good!

Lila has a special place in my heart but her idea of lying to Diego about who Stan is to test him as a father but very in-character and wow both of them reassuring each other they'll be good parents was lovely to see

ANOTHER THING THAT WAS LOVELY TO SEE WAS LUTHER AND SLOANE AND THEM FALLING IN LOVE AT THE END OF THE UNIVERSE Luther deserves good things and seeing him basically say "fuck you" to Reginald constantly was great and therapeutic for me as much as it probably was for him

man oh man oh man poor viktor fucccccc like this guy cant catch a break as much as five can; constantly being blamed for ending the world even though the root cause was Reginald and viktor didn't have as much time with his powers as the rest did and its a hugely destructive power too (not always, as seen with Harlan) and its always the factors around viktor that cause the apocalypse -- someone manipulates them, pushes them, until he triggers and loses control and he's shit on for it even though he couldn't control what others did to him?? viktor was using him powers for only a handful of days, significantly less than anyone else, he barely knows what he can do with him or how it affects others yknow

and I dont, cant, even blame Harlan bc he was in the same boat as viktor -- no one to help him figure out how to control his powers, its just reaction after reaction, accidents and no one on the planet would even know how to help him

but it was an interesting choice to give viktor Harlan back, his kid, and take away Allison's kid-

poor five also like not even a seconds rest LMAO and everyone, especially Allison, blames him for all his time traveling mishaps but like?? he was a kid when he first time traveled and he's taken every chance to do what's best for his family and the world, including killing the Board of Directors like this man is flying by the seat of his pants in almost every apocalypse trying to save everyone

KLAUS MY BELOVED IM SO SORRY U HAD TO DIE A HUNDRED TIMES BUT IM SO HAPPY TO SEE HOW MF POWERFUL U ARE!!! immortal?? immortal!! and can dispel spirits as well as summon them!! wow A Mf Man.

Ben was actually v interesting this season bc yeah he's an asshole in the first half but, when it comes down to just 10 people left alive in all of existence, he shows himself as riddled with Daddy Issues, as the name Sparrow being the only thing in his life, as sensitive to rejection ig?? big mad about not being invited to party and also very curious about the "other ben" the umbrella academy is familiar with

Reginald Reginald Reginald; first off, the actor who plays is A+ and I love seeing him on screen. Drugged!Reginald was so sad to see at first, it was so fucking sad to see that, but after finishing the season I can say with my whole chest that drugged!reginald was the best Reginald like Pogo had the right idea. and even I was rooting for Reginald to turn out good and own up to the mistakes of TUA!Reginald and idk if not be a good dad then at least be a good person and encourage the kids and IDK I WANTED HIM TO BE GOOD HERE BC ITS WHAT EVERYONE ELSE DESERVED BUT I WAS DUPED!!! I WAS DUPED AND BLINDED LIKE KLAUS!! im so- and Klaus was so happy and felt loved by him and excited for everyone else to connect with him too and he just turns around and locks him out of the corridor and leaves him to die and Klaus was forced to kill himself

I wonder how Allison felt about both Luther and Klaus dying due to her deal with Reginald (I mean I dont fully blame her for their deaths it was Reginalds fault 100%) but I wonder if she convinced herself that it was "for the greater good" or if it was all gonna ve fixed or worth it later when she got her daughter back

"do u trust me?" BITCH NO????? I actually dont know how Allison could ask viktor that actually maybe cognitive dissonance I mean girl was at sanity's edge but I wonder how much Reginald even told her about the button and the machine?? like how did she know the button would lead to a new universe or smth

the irony of killing Harlan but also using the powers that were boosted by him

now about that ending: im a lil confused but ill take it

its a new universe I think not a reset one bc wouldn't a reset universe let everyone keep their powers?? maybe when Allison pushed the button it got imbued with her desires to not have powers or smth?? did Reginald tinker with the fabric of the universe so humans didn't have powers like these? this alien bitch has a human looking wife?? is she an alien or does she have human skin like Reginald which would mean they've been on earth for a while and when she died Reginald put her on the moon For Some Reason??? what was Luther supposed to her guarding her casket pod on the dark side of the moon from?

did Reginald cause the end of worlds for centuries or do apocalypses follow him too and everywhere he goes, worlds die???

also where the fuck did these "particles" that powered the machine even come from?? what the fuck are these particles?

what does it mean that Five has both arms again?? is he still going to be the founder? has he escaped his fate or??

where is Sloane? give Luther a goddamn break

okay so Allison has her happy ending after everything she pulled, after the relationships she damaged severely and destroyed -- nw what happens? because clearly the umbrella academy isn't done with Reginald and his wife seemingly ruling the world or smth (or at least enjoying very powerful positions, as seen by "Hargreaves" on multiple buildings) so they'll all be pulled together again

(I hope Luther and viktor dont forgive Allison or at least call her out let them cut each other till bones bleed, I say)

let five get a hug?? maybe? a sibling group hug?

The Umbrella Academy, Ep.3x04 – Kugelblitz

I think what I have enjoyed the most about this series is that we are dealing with so much of a grey area when it comes to people decisions. I mean, let’s take The Commission. Are they the antagonists of the series? Well, some definitely are (like The Handler) and their method with dealing with things is extreme. And, yes, they are letting the world be destroyed, while Five is actively trying to save it. However, you can’t deny the fact that Five’s blatant disregard of The Commission’s rules is exactly the reason why there’s a Kugelblitz now.

This episode can be broken down into four parts. First, Diego is tired of his kid’s shit and has decided he’s going to do some work around the hotel to pay for damages he’s caused. Also, Diego has decided that Klaus will babysit the kid, while the kid works. But even Klaus can’t make this storyline interesting. So, we will skip to the part where Klaus and the kid break into The Buffalo Room. And clearly this room has something to do with Regenald. And just to make that clear, we have Klaus seeing a mounted white buffalo in the room and flashes to a picture of a white buffalo in The Academy. It’s at this point the kid accidentally shoots and kills Klaus. Not sure what happens next, but we all know they won’t kill off Klaus.

Meanwhile, Lila and Five realize that the Paradox isn’t just affecting the present, but all of time and space. And it looks like a good portion of The Commission has been wiped from existence. Except it seems like The Founder of The Commission is hidden away in some bunker. Lila and Five find the bunker, but something weird is going on. As they get closer to the bunker, Five seems to be suffering from the affects of having a Doppelganger nearby. That because, as it turns out, Five is The Founder. Although much older (in body as well as mentally) and is on the verge of dying. The Founder tells Five not to try to save the world and then mentions the word oblivion before he dies. Of course, as Five has basically devoted his life to fighting the system, finding out he IS the system….well, he needs a moment. However, he notices a tattoo on The Founders chest and, with a switchblade, cuts the tattoo off. Yikes.

But the main storyline has to do with the aftermath of the battle between The Sparrows and, uh, Harlan. The Sparrows think Sloane died with the other two, but Sloane is just unconscious. And, uh, we need to talk about Allison here because she’s really going off the deep end. And I get it, after everything she’s been through and then to have her daughter just erased from existence, I don’t think there is a way to handle that well. But what she does to Sloane is nothing short of torture. Now I will say that the Sparrows did come with the intention of killing the Umbrellas, so it makes sense that she sees Sloane as the enemy. But she’s not listening to Luther, who knows that Sloane did try to warn them. And it’s clear that it’s getting to the point the even Diego realizes that Allison needs an outlet. So, he takes her to a White Supremist bar and they beat up a bunch of assholes. Still, it seems like Allison might be making some bad choices this season and I wonder how far she will fall.

Of course, now Sloane isn’t wondering if Luther was setting her up all along. At which point, Luther points out that it was her family that came to kill them. Still, in the end, he is able to convince her that he isn’t out to hurt her or her family. He also convinces Viktor and Diego (somewhat) that they need to let Sloane go and to give back the bodies of the other Sparrows. The reality is, with the Paradox looming, they will need the help of the Sparrows to solve this issue. Viktor and Luther meet with the rest of the Sparrows and give back the bodies and Sloane. However, that’s not good enough for Ben. He wants the Umbrellas to bring him Harlan or else he’ll come after them again.

Finally, we get to Harlan’s story. It turns out, after the events in 1963, Sissy tried to give Harlan as much of a normal life as possible. She even changed their names so they couldn’t be found. Unfortunately, with his powers and the fact that he had trouble controlling them, they had to move. A Lot. Sissy always believed that Viktor would come back. Viktor tells Harlan that he’s sorry that he didn’t and that he was going to find a way to take the power back from Harlan.

But there’s more. At the end of the episode, Harlan finds the papers about all of the mothers that died. This makes Harlan upset. When Viktor tries to find out what’s wrong, Harlan grabs Viktor and Viktor finds out the truth of what happened on October 1st. See, that’s the day Sissy died. And when Sissy died, Harlan had a very violent outburst that (for reasons unexplained at this moment) managed to connect Harlan to the Umbrellas’ mothers and he killed them. Which means it is Harlan that created the paradox.

A Drysdale Thanksgiving

Trigger warning: sick child, mentions of a chronic illness, multiple sclerosis, fluff

Summary: It's Thanksgiving, and you and Ransom have to take care of a sick child.

"MOMMY! DADDY!" screams Harlan.

You get up, and grab your cane. Ransom gets up, and you both pad barefoot to the twins' room.

"What is it Harlan? Did you have a bad dream, buddy?" You say, stroking Harlan's hair away from his forehead.

"No, but I think Katherine's sick," says Harlan.

"Why do you say that, buddy?" says Ransom.

"Katherine can't stop coughing" says Harlan.

That's when you and Ransom heard it. Katherine coughed, but it wasn't a typical cough.

You immediately feel Katherine's forehead, and she's burning up. She coughs again, and you grab a tissue. She coughs up some mucus, and you know it's bad. Ransom comes back with the forehead thermometer, and takes Katherine's temperature. When it's done, the thermometer reads 103 degrees.

"Louise, call your brother, and get dressed. We're taking Katherine to the ER," says Ransom. Katherine coughs again, and it's bad.

A few minutes later, your brother arrives. Ransom explains the situation, and you and Ransom load Katherine into the Lexus, and take her straight to the ER. You're sitting in the backseat, next to Katherine, and telling her that she'll be okay.

"Shh, shh, you'll be fine, princess. Okay, Mommy and Daddy will do everything to make you better, okay princess," you say, stroking Katherine's hair. She coughs again, and coughs so hard, that she throws up on herself.

"Ransom! Katherine's throwing up now!" You sound alarmed. You just know that Katherine is getting sicker.

"WHAT THE SHIT?" screams Ransom.

"Oh, Katherine. You must be very sick," says Ransom.

When you and Random arrive at the hospital, Ransom pulls up, and the security guard pulls up with a wheelchair. You get out with your cane, and the security guard insists that you sit in it with Katherine in your lap.

Ransom parks the Lexus, and sits and waits with you in the waiting room. When Katherine is triaged a few minutes later, she's immediately taken to the pediatric area of the ER.

The doctor and the nurses perform their exam. Katherine is diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia, and the type of bacteria that caused it is being tested for.

Katherine keeps coughing that she keeps throwing up on herself. The pediatrician and the ER doc decide to admit Katherine.

"Call your brother, Louise. Just give him an update," says Ransom.

You call your brother, and let him know that Katherine has been admitted. You the call your dad, and you explain the situation. You're expecting the worst, given that your mom's sister died from pneumonia on Christmas Day.

Ransom just holds you in his arms. You're crying so hard, asking God, Jesus, and Buddha why Katherine. You cry to the point of exhaustion.

Ransom is worried. He just wants his little princess to be okay.

"Mr, and Mrs. Drysdale, we're going to need to admit Katherine for the next few days," says the doctor. You're so tired that the words the doctor is saying aren't making sense. Plus, Random looks anxious, on account of he hates hospitals.

"Katherine has bacterial pneumonia. You did the right thing by getting her here, which is crucial in cases like this. This isn't a cold. I'll have to give her a round of antibiotics, and then I'm putting her on IV drip. That should help get some fluid in her system,"says the doctor.

"Wait, what else can be done? you ask the doctor.

"Right now, go home. Get some rest, and bring Katherine some clothes and some toys, You've done all you can. You managed to get her here," says the doctor.

Ransom explains that it was Harlan that alerted you both. You both decide to bring Harlan tomorrow. That afternoon, you would go to your brother's.

You look in Katherine's room, and the nurse is putting the IV in her.

Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and the last thing that you both wanted was a sick child in the hospital. You and Ransom see Katherine before you both go home. Instead, you both collapse next to Katherine, exhaustion taking over the both you and Ransom.

Several hours later, you both wake up in Katherine's hospital room. Ransom helps you up, but asks the nurse for a wheelchair. The nurse finds an adult wheelchair.

"Go home, Mr. and Mrs. Drysdale. Get some rest, and take a shower. You can come back later with some toys, books, and clothes for Katherine,"says the nurse. The nurse helps you in the wheelchair, and takes you to the first floor, where Ransom pulls up the Lexus.

You and Ransom return home, and sleep in each other's arms. You and Ransom wake up at 12:30 p.m. and shower together.

"Ransom, why us? Why Katherine?" You ask, in between tears.

"I wish I had the answers, sweetheart. The doctor says Katherine is going to be okay. We got her to the hospital in time," says Ransom, trying to ease your worry.

You and Ransom get dressed to go over to your brother's. You also pack some clothes for Katherine, along with her favorite stories, a book of fairy tales you had since childhood, and her Cinderella doll, her favorite Barbie doll, and her favorite stuffed animals. You both pack some coloring books, and her crayons for her. You stop at the hospital, and bring Katherine her things.

"Mommy, daddy, can you stay? I don't want to be here. I want to go home," says Katherine, who's now burst into tears.

"I know baby, but it's only for a few more days, okay, princess", you say.

"We'll come by after we're done at uncle Evan's, okay, princess," says Ransom.

This breaks both your and Ransom's heart. Nobody wants to be in the hospital, even when it's a holiday.

You head over to your brother's, and eat dinner. You visit for a while, and gather Harlan. You stop at the hospital with Harlan, so that Harlan could visit with his twin sister. Harlan and Ransom went to the gift shop, and Harlan got Katherine a teddy bear that says "Get Well Soon", and Ransom gets his daughter a bouquet of plastic flowers that's in a cute, pink vase shaped like a bear with a sun on its stomach. The bear is holding a balloon that says "Get Well Soon". Inside the vase is a bunch of plastic water beads. Harlan's bear is holding a small mylar balloon that's on a stick that says "Get Well Soon."

You, Ransom, and Harlan all spend some time with Katherine. She's still unwell, and she looks even more tired. You see that she's on another IV drip, and that she was in need of more fluids. You ask her to take a sips of some chicken broth, and she takes it. Ransom and Harlan deliver Katherine her gifts.

Ransom kisses his daughter's forehead, and tells her how big and strong she is, just like her beautiful mama. This tears you up. Ransom is busy feeding Katherine some chicken broth, and you give her sips of Gatorade.

"Blech! This stuff is too salty," says Katherine.

"I know princess, but right now, they're giving you things that are easy to swallow," says Ransom, who is feeding her the broth. Katherine's throat was sore and raw. The chicken broth is also easy to keep down.

Katherine is feeling a little better. You take the cup of Gatorade and ask Katherine to drink it.

"MMmmm, orange," says Katherine, who asks for another sip.

"I know this is good stuff, Katherine. Right now, the doctors and nurses just want you to replace your electrolytes, okay, princess," you say.

"The doctors also want you to get some nutrients in you, okay, princess," you say.

Harlan, who has been sitting on the side of the bed, coloring with Katherine, is wanting to help his sister, but feels helpless. He looks like he's about to cry.

"Mommy, what's klectorlytes?" asks Harlan.

"You know how Mommy and Daddy put gas in the car to help make the car go?" you tell Harlan.

"Electrolytes are basically the body's system of gas. Electrolytes help make the body go and helps keep the body running," you say.

Ransom is now reading Harlan and Katherine Snow White from your book of fairy tales. Eventually, Harlan falls asleep, and Ransom picks him up, and holds him close to his chest.

You and Ransom go home, but tell the staff that you'll be back first thing in the morning. The nurse says she'll keep you updates if anything happens.

You fall asleep in the Lexus, and Harlan is passed out in his car seat. Ransom takes one look, and kisses your temple. When you all get home, Ransom gets Harlan inside, and deposits him on the couch. He then comes back, and picks you up bridal style, and carries you to the bedroom.

Ransom helps Harlan into his pajamas, and helps him brush his teeth. Ransom also helps Harlan pee, and then picks him back up, and puts him in his bed. Ransom kisses his sons forehead. Harlan looks angelic as he's in a deep sleep that not even a five alarm fire could wake him now.

Ransom helps you into your pajamas, and helps you to the bathroom. He stands behind you as you brush your teeth. Ransom waits while you relieve yourself.

The next day, you all go to see Katherine in the hospital. The doctor and the nurse say that Katherine will be ready to go home tomorrow. Katherine is starting to look better, and she's feeling better.

"How are you doing, princess?" asks Ransom, who is stroking his daughter's hair away from her forehead.

"Daddy, can you take me home? I want to go home," says Katherine, who is bored from being in the hospital, and just wants to be in the comfort of her own bed. You and Ransom understand this.

"Tomorrow, princess. You'll come home with us tomorrow, okay," says Ransom. You're with Harlan in the cafeteria, and you're both eating some breakfast. Ransom is busy helping Katherine with her breakfast. You and Harlan join Katherine after you both finish your breakfast.

You, Ransom, and Harlan spend a little time with Katherine, and then leave when she falls asleep. You'll be back, later.

"Oh, Ransom. I know she doesn't want to be in the hospital, but I just want her home," you say. Ransom pulls you close, and this breaks his heart.

"I know, Louise. She's coming home tomorrow. We did the right thing, by getting her to the hospital right away," says Ransom.

You, Ransom, and Harlan visit her again that night. You leave when she falls asleep. You all go back home, and go to sleep.

The next day, you, Ransom, and Harlan are excited. You called Harlan in absent from pre-school, and you all head to the hospital to get Katherine. When you get there, the doctor and the nurses are performing their final exams. The nurse hands you some after care instructions. Ransom and Harlan are busy helping Katherine pack her clothes, and her things in her overnight bag.

"Just make sure to sit in the steam with her for a while to help loosen up her cough, it doesn't do much for pneumonia, but it will help loosen the cough up. Give her some ice cream or a popsicle to help soothe her throat. The doctor will be with you shortly to give you her prescription," says the nurse.

The doctor gives you and Ransom a prescription for Katherine's antibiotic. Her fever has gone down significantly, and she's looking and feeling better. On top of her overnight bag sits a pink and purple blanket, and a matching hand crocheted teddy bear. The pediatric ward likes to keep hand knit and hand crocheted blankets and hand knit and hand crocheted toys that local knitting circles and local crochet guilds like to make for the hospital. The blankets and the stuffed animals provided a sense of security and comfort for the kids.

Harlan is busy playing with his sister. They're playing with her dolls, and then after a few minutes, you Ransom puts Katherine in your lap, and wheels you down to the first floor lobby. The nurse helps you and Ransom bring down Katherine's stuffed bear and plastic flowers when she's ready to leave. Ransom goes and pulls the Lexus around, and you're waiting in the wheelchair with Katherine in your lap, and Harlan is standing next to you, holding your hand.

Ransom finally pulls up, and loads Katherine in her car seat, and then loads Harlan in his car seat. Ransom loads you into the front seat, puts your seatbelt on. Ransom puts his seatbelt on, and then you are headed home. Katherine has fallen asleep on the ride home, and Ransom gets Katherine in her Cinderella nightgown, and then gets her in bed. Katherine just wants to sleep in her own bed after being in the hospital for a few days. Ransom parks Harlan on the couch, and flips on the Disney Channel. Harlan falls asleep, and Ransom carries his son to his bed. The twins are busy sleeping in their beds.

Ransom carries you back into the house, and places you on your shared bed. Ransom decides to go grocery shopping and fill Katherine's prescription. Ransom comes back with the groceries, and with Katherine's medicine. Ransom gives her the first dose, the next dose will be given to Katherine after dinner.

"This stuffs icky, Daddy," says Katherine.

"I know, princess, but you need to take this until it's gone. You'll get much better once you take this, okay, princess," says Ransom.

Ransom fills the bathroom with steam, and then strips Katherine down to her panties. He then holds her close to his chest, and sits with her in the steam for a while. Katherine is already starting to feel better.

"Katherine, you're doing so much better, my big, brave girl," says Ransom. Katherine is awake, and just wants to be held and cuddled by her daddy right now.

"I'm feeling much better, daddy," says Katherine. Ransom is rubbing soothing circles on his daughter's back.

Your brother and your sister-in-law come over later, and bring a small turkey, some homemade stuffing, some mashed potatoes, and some cranberry sauce. They even bring some pumpkin pie and some vanilla ice cream, and some pumpkin ice cream. Your brother and your sister-in-law cook a Thanksgiving dinner for you guys, and you and Ransom are forever grateful.

Katherine's cousins have made her homemade get well cards, and they give her a stuffed dog that has a bright red ribbon on it's neck and "Get Well Soon" written on a silver heart .

Katherine takes her next dose of medicine, and then falls asleep after she has some vanilla ice cream. You and Ransom put the twins to bed, and your brother and your sister-in-law and your niece and nephew leave. They call the next morning to see how Katherine is doing.

Your Thanksgiving was later than expected, but it was nice. You had a sick child, and you smile lovingly at your husband. You and Ransom realize that this is nothing in the grand scheme of things. A sick child who needed to be hospitalized happens. You and Ransom got through this, you and Ransom got through you're MS progressing, and you both got through a lot more. You'll both get through a lot more.

S01E04 Spung at Heart

Ok, back at it again!

In this episode, we get introduced to the big bads: the slaving, misogynistic, war mongering, Spung. Cardassians with tails. But first, we fall in love with their rebellious, fortune-telling princess, Elmira.

We start with Radu and Harlan alone on the bridge (love it), getting a distress call from a ship with a lone passenger, and bickering (LOVE IT). The voice is female, so of course we get them fighting over a girl without knowing much about her (A TREND).

What an introduction shot, though. Elmira, you have my whole heart.

So Radu is pissed, and we learn that the Spung enslaved his people and started the Spung-Andromedan war. The tension! And Radu and Harlan are fighting over Harlan's prejudices towards Andromedans. It's such a good scene!

And Catalina remains the Eye Roll Queen every time Elmira calls Harlan "captain."

I do like that Elmira is an oracle, what a unique character trait. I like to headcanon that her mother was one as well, but she died during the war. Without her mother's protection, this left her more vulnerable to having her gifts abused by her father, Warlord Shank.

Elmira to Catalina: No one can see who's coming here, but Catalina disappears.

At this point in the series, the creators were already suspicious that they were going to lose Jewel Staite to the Disney channel and so this was a bit of foreshadowing to Catalina's eventual departure.

Goddard is always fixing something, does the Christa need you poking around in her all the time SIR?

Elmira to Goddard: Not many Stardogs live to say, they've seen what you will see today.

I'm really intrigued by the fact that the Spung Killcruisers were so deadly, everyone on the UPP side who ever encountered one was killed. And the Spung still lost the war!

I'm not even going to comment on Davenport, she is so goofy.

Radu's fortune is, of course, the best. And hints at a storyline they never got to tell:

Elmira to Radu: Fire and darkness you will tame. Hero added to your name. Noble Radu, worthy and brave. Those who scorn you, you will save.

And I couldn't quote this episode without including more fawning over my OTP:

Elmira: Harlan Band doesn't hate you Radu, he's afraid of you. Radu: Afraid? Elmira: Yes. Every time he looks at you, he's afraid that everything he knows is wrong. And so are you, every time you look at me.

Ok, listen, I know that's very much meant to be a Radu/Elmira moment - a ship which was almost certainly going to be endgame - but hear me out. Harlan having feelings for Radu, someone he considers an enemy, the same way Radu has feelings for his enemy in the Spung princess. An awful lot of angst in this love triangle all around. It feeds into my headcanon that Harlan is positively TORTURED by his eventual romantic feelings for Radu for multiple reasons. Maybe I'll get more into my shipping headcanons some day BUT MOVING ON.

Ok, and it's also just a great scene and a great message about prejudice in a kids' show.

I really want to know more about the Spung ruling structure. Is Shank the only Warlord or are there others? Is he the leader of a nation, of the whole empire, or just the military? If he's just a high ranking commander, like the wiki says, why is Elmira considered a princess (which is something we learn in Season 2, I believe).

Also, George Takei, phenomenal get. And the Star Trek reference, *chef's kiss*.

In the end, Elmira returns to her ship and distracts Shank and the killcruiser long enough for the Christa to escape through the White Circle and back where they began - 7 years, 4 months, and 22 days from home.

Great episode! Can't wait until we get to see Elmira again!

The void in S3 immediately reminded me of your fic! With all the personal heavens. Then I was hit with a mix of sadness and hilarity because in your fic it's implied the sibs care about Klaus heading over to the void to hang with dave via killing himself and of course in the show they barely blink an eye when he dies lmao.

Anon, awwww, the first part of this message had me like 🥺🥺🥺🥺 in a major way! Thank you for saying this so I feel less like a self-centered ass when I talk back to the netflix episode descriptions like, "Klaus's relationship with death proves more complicated than anyone knew" I'm sorry though what are you talking about because I knew!!?! I knew. A lot of people knew but I definitely knew. The color starts to come back the closer he is to people he cares about? Yeah my dude I KNEW THAT!! The dead just hang out in their own little heavens and eat yummy food and kick back and get into hobbies and check in on the living? I knew that! They don't refer to the place as heaven but rather say they are 'at peace?' Hello I knew that, that's why the doc title was 'Klave Peace fic' okay??

(is this just to prove I am bad at naming things, or is it mainly a pointless tease of the wips that y'all will probably never see? it's both.)

But okay about the second part of this ask - in the incredibly brief amount of time I've spent online since s3 dropped, I have seen some talk about how the Hargreeves are unfeeling monsters who don't care about the deaths happening around them. Stan getting kugeled, Luther and Harlan being killed, Klaus being left behind. And I just don't see it, I'm sorry!

Okay, so it's like, in the middle of the season Klaus dies and we don't get a full-blown family meltdown or much of a reaction at all. And although I would happily read (and maybe even write) all the fic about the family finding a dead Klaus and all the angsty emotions, I feel like on the actual show it would come across as cheap if they went all in on the mourning, only for him to come back seconds later.

The deaths at the end of the season have a similar feeling to me. Allison's entire viewpoint this season is that nothing matters, because they'll just move on and reset, and I think by the end the others have to adopt that view or they'd completely fall apart. Stan is gone, and so is the entire universe except for the hotel they are staying in, so they're just going to have to plow ahead and fix all of the everything and Stan's death will be undone along with the demise of the rest of the human race, OR well there's not really an 'or' there, it's just gotten to a point where things are so dark that the only win is a do-over.

I'm actually pretty into the show embracing that, because I feel like most of the media that heads in this direction commits to the bit a little too hard. Like, a movie trying to convince us that, 'the heroes really did lose this time because, look - see, half of the world's population is wiped out!' Like I've never seen a movie before and I'm not aware that a deus ex machina will be able to fix this because that's literally what those are for.

Once things get to a certain level of dire, you know they are going to have to hit that reset button, and whatever happens starts to not matter because of course it doesn't.

I appreciate from a storytelling perspective that they never even tried to pretend like that wasn't their end goal with this season, and from a character perspective it honestly makes a lot of sense to me. It's almost like a sunk cost fallacy, in a way? Things start getting bad, so bad that literally the only way to fix them is to reset the universe, so you've got to keep moving and don't let any loss slow you down, because you can fix those losses if you can just make it to the end. Don't validate this reality with your grief, just refuse to accept it. That's literally the first stage of grief, right? and most of us haven't had the real life experience of dimension-hopping. If anyone is going to think they can find a time loophole out of an apocalypse, yeah, it's the Hargreeves, because they've literally been there done that got the t-shirt cowboy hat. Twice.

So, anyway. That's not really related all that much to the question here but as per usual I decided to use an anon as a jumping off point for a different soapbox. I'm going to not feel too bad about it because I'm answering this kinda late anyway so probably whoever sent this has forgotten to even look for my response, sorrrryyyy about that and also thanks for talking to me about this show and my fic it's been a while since i've done that <3<3
