NOT Wholesome Relationships in GT
this is basically another entry in random GT thoughts: I always hear about how ppl would love to have a tiny/giant S/O in the, how their relationship would be filled with fluff and wholesome moments, and while I love the sentiment. oh my god does the power dynamics of a one sided relationship make a good story. Giant pressuring tiny to go out with them, not even having to threaten anything because 'holy he's 80 feet tall Imagine what he could do to me if I made him mad'
bonus points if Giant doesn't even realise they are scaring the tiny into a date, they just think that tiny is into them as well and is nervous abt it for normal reasons, only for halfway through the date when tiny hasn't disagreed or voiced their own opinion, 'I suggested tiny to get apple pie as a joke because they're allergic, but they actually got it, why are they acting different all the sudden now that we are alone?' and it all comes to a boil when tiny finally breaks down, breaking their facade and expecting for Giant to get mad at them over it all and giant is MAD but NOT for the reasons tiny thinks, Like they just realized the only reason their 'S/O' went out with them is because they were SCARED of them? like how heartbreaking would that be? And on the other side for tiny they have been trying their past weeks to tip-toe around Giant, only to be 'forced' on a date with someone they don't even feel SAFE around?!
Oh my god this scenario has been living in my head for the past week and i CANNOT get it out of my head. If somebody doesn't write this i WILL don't test me

Whatever happens... A, B, and C
Tumblr media
"Hey C? Buddy? How're you doing in there? Are you ready to come out yet?"
Their question was met with a cold silence, but B could do nothing about the unpleasant response. It was meant to still be a secret between B and A, with the idea being that once they had reached their third month's anniversary of their relationship that they would tell C. But the surprise came a little too early.
A bent down. "Have they still not come out yet? It's been an hour..." They spoke in a soft and hopeless tone, which was conflicting with their usual upbeat personality.
"No..." B replies while eying the bathroom door. "I just hope they'll be okay... what if they don't like us anymore after this? I don't want to lose them. This is exactly what we were trying to prevent..." he says while silently acknowledging the irony of this whole situation.
B knocks on the little door again. "C? Please come out...". "N-no!..." came a soft squeak, which very briefly settled B and A's worry that their partner had somehow managed to escape through the window. They knew it would actually be impossible for C, but the fear was still there, C had a tendency to accomplish the impossible, such as dating two people who were secretly giants.
The two shared a look of grief, and A could see how B's mind was tumbling: "What if they break up with us? W-what if they leave us?" B asked with a choked voice. "Then we let them... it's not right to hold someone hostage. That would definitely make us monsters. C is already so overwhelmed..." A spoke with pain in their heart. At first, A wanted to pry the door open and get ahold of C, but now that they've thought things through it would most likely never go well.
"I miss them..." B hugged themselves tighter. "I miss them so much, and they're right here. They're so close, and we're losing them A... what do we do..?" A sighs "I don't know..."
Hours continued to fly by till the early morning, around 4. C finally decided to have a peek outside the bathroom to investigate the silence. They almost yelped when he saw how close the two were to the door, A was snuggled up to B, they both looked exhausted. To C, this was a relief. This was their chance to get the hell out of here... C grabbed their keys and bag off the counter and quietly made their way to the door. They took their time to observe their home for a final time and made some connections, such as why the ceiling was so high and why the two always had a glimmer in their eyes whenever they saw each other... C always thought it was because they were in love, which may have been the case, but also because the two shared a deep secret with one another... one that they never deemed necessary to tell C despite being their partner. Maybe C's insecure thoughts were right about them being nothing more than a third wheel.
Suddenly, he noticed B's eyes flicker open. In a panic, C rushes to the door, his steps waking the both of them. He pulled on the door and... nothing. It didn't budge, he tried again, then he tried pushing, nothing. Finally, he looked up from the handle and saw A's hand pressed against the top. Fear struck his already broken heart as he felt it sink to his stomach. He spun back towards the bathroom to see that his safe haven had been blocked off by B.
C looked up at the two with frantic eyes, unable to get his legs to move. He had no real other pace to hide as their layout was rather open. B gently reached to make contact with C, but C jolted away as if B's fingers were knives. "D-Don't touch me!" C hated how the fear rang in his voice, how he stammered in front of them. C never was one to speak up for himself. He was the timid and soft-spoken one of the three.
B and A kept their distance, looking down at C with pleading eyes, please C please don't go. Let us explain, let us hold you, show you that we would never hurt you.
But their silent pleading fell on deaf ears. C stared at the two with blurry eyes, tears obscuring his vision. "Let me go." he rests his hand on the handle, looking at A. Please let me get out of here.
A & B share a look before returning their eyes to C. "Let us first explain ourselves... please Cc?" B pleaded with an all too familiar nickname that made C feel uneasy hearing at the moment.
C's legs were ready to make a run for it as soon as either one made an attempt to grab him again, he was particularly eying B for that distinct twitch they'd show when they lost their patience. This would be C's only chance to speak their mind before something were to happen to them. "I... no, I've heard enough, I've... I've seen enough. I don't know why you'd keep such a big secret from me for so long! I'm not a stranger. We've known each other for years! And not once was I ever considered your equal! I-I'm just that easy to get forget about, aren't I? The small third party! Quick and easy to get rid of!" C's breathing quickened, and his blood boiled, yet he still kept his voice lowered. Regret began to almost instantly set in after he was done talking back at the two in such a tone, he swore that the two were now staring right through him. How dare he speak to them that way, how dare he try to question their decisions when he was so disposable to them?
Instead, A let out a very pitiful sniffle, a gate of tears rolled down their cheeks. "We're sorry, we're so, so sorry... we really messed up this whole plan." they say while trying to wipe all those messy tears off. Wanting nothing more than to be given a second chance to try and be better at how they handled the situation. They wanted to explain how scared they were of C's reaction and how they knew he would be scared if they had revealed this secret any sooner.
B held A's hand before looking at C. "C... no, no C, you're not! Don't say that! Please get that out of your head it was never meant to get so out of hand. We swear we would have told you a-and it was supposed to be a whole setup and everything!" Slowly B moved their hand closer to C. C hadn't even noticed B's hand. they were too occupied by their heart ringing in their ears and the sight of A sobbing in B's arms. Even B looked completely heartbroken.
When C suddenly felt B's hand wrap around his waist and legs, he began to frantically squirm, watching and attempting to push away any enclosing fingers that hugged his body. "n-no stop! Stop!!" C yelped. "I-it's okay! It's okay, I won't drop you, I promise you C..." B spoke with a gentle yet strained voice, trying to hide the pump in his throat as he felt his panicked lover squirm and scratch. Wincing a little as he felt warm tears drip down his fingers.
A quickly wiped his tears and let B open their hand. The two had talked for hours about what it would be like to hold C in their hands, how they wanted C to take naps, demand being held, how soft he would feel... this would probably not be the case anymore... "Cc..." A spoke softly. B looked at C. "I'm sorry I... I just wanted to be near you. Please don't be scared, A and I... we were trying to prevent this reaction, but it just happened. A-and now everything seems forced and-and the timing is terrible and we're scared we're going to lose you! We don't want to lose you C. Please, please believe us, we promise there's nothing else to hide from you, we will tell you everything... let us prove it to you... we will do anything to make up for this mess."
C was a shivering mess. They looked at both lovers like they were predators despite the duo's best attempts to calm him, giving gentle rubs and holding him against their chest. Talking to him with a soft and sweet voice that tried to reassure him that he was safe and that they would never hurt him while also repeatedly apologizing. This continued till the sun rose, and C finally passed out on B's chest.
The two laid him in bed, their poor C was exhausted, their cheeks stained with tear marks and their eyes were puffy, their body never stopped shivering and every now and then they'd jolt and mumble incoherently. The two looked at each other with equally stained cheeks and puffy eyes. They decided it would be best for them to shrink down to the size C was familiar with. B held C's hand and gently kissed their forehead while A kissed C's cheek and snuggled up to spoon him. The 3 got cuddled up together and fell into a deep sleep... hopefully, when C woke up, they'd be more willing to talk. But they couldn't be certain. All they could really focus on was that C was in their arms, and hopefully, after some time, they'd be able to sleep together without fear.

Prompt #26 (DP X DC)
Due to shenanigans with his parents inventions, Danny is now borrower sized, and on top of that, the weapon that shrunk him also blasted him through the portal and straight through a natural one. Now he’s in the DC universe and, staying invisible, he starts to explore, and learn as much as he can about this universe
He follows different superheroes, trying to figure out what to do in his tiny new form, and eventually gets found by one of the bats/birds, who is concerned about him being tiny, seemingly defenceless, in Gotham of all places, and take him back to the cave while he’s sleeping (“no, it’s not kidnapping it’s a safety measure”)
Danny wakes up in a jar on a table in the batcave, and, making sure that no one was looking, goes through the glass, and tries to leave, only to get immediately found by said bat/bird again. Danny gets taken back to the jar, which the bat/bird then reinforces to try make sure he can’t get out. He doesn’t phase through it until the member of the batfam leaves, not wanting to give away his escape secrets
Danny always complains that he can handle himself, and the bat/bird always argues against, and puts him back into the jar
This carries on for days/weeks, until the combination that makes it ghost proof gets used accidentally, at which point Danny sulks for ages

*steps on soapbox*
More g/t stories with dating apps and awkward first dates please! I want mixed societies with humans and giants living together. I want the main characters to match on an app and think “ooh, you’re my person and perfect in every way”, only for them to meet in real life and realize “oh shoot there’s a huge height difference”. I want awkward to the max — The giant trying so hard to be gentle and not scary but the tiny is very taken aback and has no clue what to do. I want the giant to be so smitten, and so is the tiny but they just need a bit more time to adjust to everything. I want slow burn and trust building and all the tender steps as they fall in love with each other. I want the tiny finally allowing the giant to hold them for the first time. I want the first time they cuddle together. I want the first time they kiss. Hell, give me all the firsts!
Tell me this isn’t the sweetest, fluffiest trope you can imagine. Ugh, need more of this

pepper & felix
part one
In this universe, when a person turns 21, they gain the ability to communicate with their soulmate telepathically. For the borrower Pepper, this turns out to be quite a shock. word count: 2.9k
“Can you hear me?”
The words floated around Pepper’s mind for a moment, soft and fuzzy as if he was hearing them from a distance.
“Hello? Can you hear this?”
Pepper spun in a circle, searching for the source of the strange voice, but he was completely alone in the secluded area under a floorboard. He tensed up, briefly remembering a myth he had been told as a child, of soulmates and telepathic connections. He hadn’t thought it had been real, but…
“I’ll just try again later.”
After that, the voice went quiet, and the fuzzy feeling in Pepper’s mind vanished. He spent the next few seconds staring around at his surroundings, heart heavy. Once he was certain that he was completely alone, he tightened his grip on his satchel and continued his trek back home.
He could worry about the messages after he rationed out his food for the week.
The second time Pepper’s mind was filled with someone’s else’s voice, he felt more prepared.
The wiry black-haired borrower was sitting in his hammock, a thick piece of fabric being held up by two push pins in the wall. He had been absentmindedly scribbling in his journal when he heard it.
“Hello?”
Pepper bit his lip. He briefly thought back to the myth, stomach currently twisting in knots.
“It’s me. Your soulmate.”
A chill settled into Pepper’s stomach, and he drew his knees closer to his chest.
“Um, if you want to talk back, just interlock your fingers and press them to your chest. And then I’ll be able to hear you.”
Pepper didn’t really understand how moving his hands somehow would allow this mystery voice to hear him, but he knew that being heard was not something borrowers wanted. He drew his bottom lip into his mouth, vaguely wondering if he was going crazy.
The voice had gone quiet for a moment, clearly waiting for him to respond.
Pepper could hear the disappointment as the voice said, “It’s okay if you don’t want to talk. I don’t even know if you can hear this. But, I just wanted to say hi. We’re… We’re soulmates.”
Soulmates? Pepper swallowed hard. Most borrowers go their whole lives without seeing more than fifty others of their kind, and they needed to be incredibly lucky to find someone they liked enough to start a relationship with. The idea that there was another borrower out there, that was supposedly “perfect” for Pepper, was astounding.
What if his soulmate was hundreds of miles away, hiding somewhere across the country? Pepper would never be able to meet them.
“I just turned twenty-one a few days ago. You know, soulmate-connection age. Oh… maybe you’re not twenty-one yet and that’s why you can’t hear me. This is a little embarrassing, then. But I guess if you’re not listening, it doesn’t matter, right?”
Pepper was struggling to follow. He himself was twenty-two. You had to be at least twenty-one to communicate with your soulmate, then?
“I like to sing. I’ve always thought that my soulmate would maybe be a singer too. Or maybe not. I just get the feeling that you are artsy, too, you know?”
The borrower shifted in his hammock, peering down at the journal in his hands. He had ripped up thick sheets of paper and sewn them together with thread. He supposed he did enjoy making things.
“Are you artsy?”
The voice had lifted up a little, clearly hopeful that Pepper would respond. The borrower didn’t move an inch.
“...That’s okay. I’ll tune in later. Remember— interlocked hands on your chest. If you wanna talk.”
Pepper was left in silence. His small chest heaved with uneasy breaths, while tan arms hugged his journal close to his torso.
Despite his apprehension, it was kind of nice to hear about his… “soulmate.” His soulmate might even be sort of brave, considering the fact that he is apparently a singer. Pepper hadn’t met a single borrower that felt comfortable enough to even speak loudly, let alone identify themselves as a singer. A strange feeling of appreciation wormed its way into Pepper’s chest. Maybe this wasn’t so bad.
Maybe it’s just nice to hear from someone, the borrower concluded. He had lived alone in the walls of this apartment for a little over two years, and he couldn’t remember the last time he had had a real conversation with someone.
A smile settling over his face, Pepper continued doodling in his journal.
“Hey. My sister came to visit today.”
Pepper nearly jumped out of his skin. He spun around, tiny hands clutched around a grape twice the size of his head. When he realized that he was alone in the kitchen, he relaxed microscopically.
“She just wanted to stop by to wish me a belated happy birthday. And she made me a bracelet, which is so sweet! I moved out a few years ago, and since we’re both so busy it’s hard to see each other. It was really nice.”
Pepper’s mind wandered to his own sister. She was a few years older than him, but they could be twins, sharing tan skin and shaggy black hair, two dark features that every borrower wished to have. Basil, Pepper's sister, had moved out when Pepper was fourteen. He had seen her twice since then, on the rare occasion she was able to stop home and say hi.
He really did understand his soulmate. If his hands weren’t holding the grape, he might have considered saying so.
“I don’t have any roommates, or anything, so I’m alone a lot.”
Pepper was trekking across the counter, one arm holding the grape to his hip. He reached the edge, where his hook was latched onto the smooth surface.
“I’m an introvert, so it’s fine, but it’s definitely nice to hear from the people that I care about. You know?”
It only took a few seconds for Pepper to slide all the way to the floor, carefully holding the grape in one arm to prevent it from falling.
“My sister asked me if I had heard from my soulmate, now that I’m twenty-one. She’s really into the soulmate thing, but she’s only eighteen, so she has to wait. Anyways, I told her that I had reached out to you, but I think you might be younger than me, and you can’t hear me, maybe. Or you’re just shy?”
Pepper found the crack at the base of the counter and eased his way through, yanking his hook and his grape with him. He was met by a familiar darkness, and he subconsciously relaxed in the safety of the walls.
“Anyways, well… It’s late, and I should probably get some sleep. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight,” Pepper murmured, wishing he had the strength to truly say it back.
It had been a week since Pepper had first heard from his soulmate. Since then, the soft voice had entered his mind a total of five times— chatting about his sister, sometimes, or his favorite songs. Pepper was always left with a fondness, followed by a feeling of guilt, that he was ignoring his brave soulmate for the safety of his own comfort.
He was afraid that he would fall in love with this person. He would tell them all of his secrets and thoughts and desires, only to learn that they were miles and miles apart. Hell, even if his soulmate lived down the street, they would still be out of reach for a borrower.
But— why give up before even trying? Was it really that harmful to say hello?
So, Pepper pressed his shaky hands against his chest, feeling the pounding of his heart. He closed his eyes, focusing on the fuzziness in the back of his mind, tuning in. “Hello? Are you there?”
He felt his own heartbeat quicken as a voice immediately responded, bright and ecstatic.
“Yes! Hello! Oh my gosh!”
Pepper let out a sharp breath, a mix of a gasp and a laugh. Biting his tongue, he tried again. “It’s… nice to meet you. I’ve been wanting to talk back to you, but… I don’t know, I get scared every time. Um, yeah. I’m Pepper…”
Something strange happened, when he tried to say his name. He knew that he was saying “Pepper,” but as he did so, static had filled his mind, clouding the word.
“Oh! I guess you didn’t know. Soulmate telepathy doesn’t let you say your name. I didn’t catch that, I’m sorry.”
Huh.
“Why? That’s dumb.” Pepper’s brow furrowed.
“I don’t know. The universe makes the rules.”
Pepper laughed again, pressing his hands further against his chest. The warmth of his hammock surrounded him, but he was solely focused on the warmth of the voice in his mind. “Well, I guess I’ll always be a mystery to you.”
“I guess you will,” his soulmate said teasingly. Pepper smiled to himself, thinking hard before proposing his next question.
“Did you have a good day?”
“I did! I called my sister.”
Pepper blinked curiously. “You called her?”
“Yeah. To say thank you again, for the bracelet. I haven’t taken it off since she gave it to me!”
The borrower stared at the wall, trying to fit the pieces together in his mind. “Do you live close to her?”
“Oh yeah, she’s only like twenty minutes away. I just called her because I was out all day.”
Pepper nodded to himself. That made more sense, he supposed. If his soulmate lived that close to his sister he could easily call out to her while on a borrowing trip.
“I have a sister too,” Pepper admitted. “But I haven’t seen her in… maybe a year? She’s six years older than me, and once we both moved out, well… you know how it is. We are not nearly as close as you and your sister.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Were you two close growing up?”
“Yeah, definitely. We actually lived right next to a bakery, and she would always come home with the best stuff. She got me a big piece of this brownie thing once, and it was incredible.”
Pepper found himself smiling at the memory of Basil coming home with a big chunk of chocolate, beaming as she showed it to her younger brother. They had shared it and it had been the best thing Pepper had ever tasted.
He wondered how Basil was doing.
“Aww, that’s sweet! She seems like a nice sister.”
“She was.” Pepper relaxed into the hammock, closing his eyes. “I’d like to run out and visit her soon. Especially now that it’s getting warmer, and I can actually walk outside without drowning in snow.”
“Yeah, I get that,” his soulmate said with a note of amusement. “I still have a bruise on my leg from where I slipped on ice last December.”
Pepper raised an eyebrow. His soulmate must really be brave, going outside in the middle of winter! “I couldn’t imagine trying to walk on ice.”
“No need to rub it in,” his soulmate giggled, and he once again was left in confusion.
When Pepper said nothing, his soulmate continued. “So, how old are you? What do you do for fun?”
Pepper chewed his lip. “I’m twenty-two. And I’m crafty, I guess? I like to draw sometimes, when I have the materials. I really like to make things.”
“I knew you would be artsy!” His soulmate said brightly. “What do you make?”
Pepper stared around his room from the height of his hammock. A scrappy rug, fairy lights, and assorted articles of clothing surrounded him. “Decorations for my room. I’ve really started getting into clothing, too. I just finished up a jacket, actually.”
“That’s so cool!”
“…Thank you,” Pepper responded, mildly surprised.
“I’m not very good with my hands, but I’m pretty good at singing. I like to perform.”
“That’s cool, too,” Pepper admitted. “I’ve never sang in my life. I don’t really know how, and I would be so scared of getting caught.”
“Aw, that’s okay. I used to be super shy when I was younger, but the stage fright eventually goes away, I promise!”
Pepper blinked up at the ceiling. “…Thanks?”
“Oh— sorry, I should probably go. I’ve got to get up early tomorrow. But… I’ll talk to you tomorrow..? If that’s okay?”
“Yes,” Pepper said immediately.
“Okay, great! Then I’ll see you tomorrow. Goodnight!”
“Goodnight.”
Pepper’s heart was pounding out of his chest.
He stood stiffly, back pressed against a metal thermos. He was currently stranded on the counter in the early hours of the morning, and he had greatly underestimated how early the resident human would be getting up today.
The heavy sound of footsteps filled his ears. Pepper swallowed hard, praying that the human wouldn’t touch his thermos of coffee anytime soon. The human usually forgot his coffee half the time, as sporadic as he was. Hopefully Pepper will be lucky this time.
The borrower shuffled to the side, peering around the edge of the thermos. His stomach chilled at the sight of the massive human.
The human’s hands alone dwarfed Pepper in size. A torso the size of a house moved around the room, easily carrying an enormous backpack that Pepper couldn’t even imagine trying to budge. A head of sand-colored hair was turned away from the borrower, much to his relief. The human seemed to be typing something on his phone.
The human left his apartment at different times each day, which was frustrating for Pepper. The borrower wouldn’t have ventured out this morning if he knew the human would be up before the sun rose.
Pepper’s gaze darted over to a thin crack on the wall, a few feet to the side. He could make a dash for it, but it would take about fifteen seconds to get there, and the human could turn around in any of those seconds… Pepper could wait for the human to leave the apartment, but the human might not leave without grabbing his thermos first…
The sound of keys jangling filled his ears, and Pepper’s blood ran cold. He begged for the human to leave.
He heard enormous footsteps receding, moving away from him, and he nearly sobbed in relief before a murmur filled the air. “Fuck, almost forgot—“
It took less than three seconds for the human to cross the room, and Pepper slapped his hands over his mouth at the sight of massive pale fingers closing around the thermos. He instinctively flinched away, staring up as the thermos was pulled away, leaving him stranded on the counter with a human who was sure to snatch him up the moment he laid his eyes on the defensiveness borrower—
But… the human wasn’t even looking at him.
Pepper swayed on his feet, staring at the human who was now opening his front door and stepping outside. The human had grabbed his thermos and left the apartment without even sparing a glance in Pepper’s direction.
The front door clicked shut, and the second Pepper was alone he collapsed to his knees, hugging his chest. Heavy gasps left his mouth, as the terror of the last thirty seconds left his body in shaky waves. “Oh my god, oh my god…”
He swallowed thickly, squeezing his eyes shut. Without even realizing what he was doing, he slid his hands to his chest, clasping his fingers together. “Hello? Hello? Are you there?”
It took a few agonizing seconds to receive a response, and Pepper almost sobbed in relief at the familiar soft voice that filled his mind. “Hey, what’s up?”
“I almost just got caught,” Pepper blurted, heart pounding.
“What do you mean?”
“Caught! I almost got caught! I was out, and the bean almost saw me, I almost— oh my god, I could have… this could have been so bad. Oh my god.”
His soulmate was silent for a long time, and Pepper’s stomach twisted in apprehension, a feeling that quickly morphed into irritation, that his soulmate would just ignore him when he was so clearly upset.
“Did you hear me?” He demanded with more anger that he intended.
“Uh, yeah, I— yeah, I heard you, I’m just a little confused. Sorry. Are you okay?”
Pepper swallowed hard, squeezing his eyes shut. Suddenly filled with the horrifying thought that the human could return at any moment, he jumped to his feet, beginning to jog towards the crack in the wall. “Yeah… Yeah, I’m fine now, he’s gone. I— I’m sorry, I’m just shaken up. That was just a really close call.”
“Uh,” his soulmate said. “Were you in danger? Did someone attack you? Maybe you should call nine-one-one?”
Pepper nearly laughed at the absurdity. “Of course I was in d—“
He skidded to a halt suddenly. “…nine… one one?”
“Yeah? Oh, I’m sorry— are you not in America? What’s your emergency line?”
Ice seeped into Pepper’s veins. His hands remained clasped against his chest, although they were significantly shakier than they were before.
“Are you… a…”
Pepper couldn’t bring himself to ask. Despite being alone, terror was sinking into his stomach like a rock. There was no way. No way!
“I’m sorry,” Pepper said numbly, staggering towards the crack in the wall. “I have to go.”
“Wha— are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Sorry. I promise I’m fine. Bye.”
His hands fell from his chest as he squeezed into the walls, immediately stumbling against a piece of wood to catch his balance. His soulmate was sending him a confused farewell, but he could barely hear it over the blood pounding in his ears.
“I can’t believe this,” Pepper heaved, burying his face in his hands.  “My— my soulmate is a human?”
thank you for reading! I hope you enjoyed :]

Evening GT Thoughts:
Giant is trying to get into bed, but tiny is already all comfy and half asleep on the bed. Big tries to gently nudge them awake, but they only stir a bit and don’t move. A bit of back and forth goes by between the half asleep and the one trying to settle down for the night. As the big says how they need to get into bed, unfortunately the small replies that they are tired and don’t want to move.
The big leans in, “I’m just going to have to move you myself then.” As their big hands slowly approach the small, the little one moves over. The big appreciates the gesture, but it’s still not enough room for the larger one. The big tries to gently explain this, but the tiny has now fully passed out and just looks too comfy to disturb. The big watching their tiny companion resting without a care in the world. Their facial features harder to make out due to their small size, but the big can still make out how relaxed the little one looks. Almost enviously looking at the small rising and falling of the tiny’s chest as they peacefully sleep.
The big does their best to get into bed, but are cramped into roughly 2/3rds the space they usually take up when sleeping. Carefully they try not to disturb the small, and eventually settle in trying to make a mental note on how to approach this issue later. For now they let the small sleep.

GODLIKE
Godlike Universe (Brielle, Cameron, Nikolas)
~2000 words
New characters?? 👀 Nikolas is a size-shifting deity--the Lord of Autumn (AKA Lord Taranis but he prefers his chosen human-like name). Brielle is an ex-princess, and Cameron is an ex-knight. How did these humans earn the favor and protection of the literal personification of autumn?? It's complicated.
But they're all in love teehee 😘
@marydublinauthor 🌸
Tumblr media
Brielle hopped from root to root delicately while Cameron muscled down the urge to stay within catching distance, imagining her cry of pain if she slipped. Old habits died hard.
Flashes of the grand Autumn manor were visible in the distance as they trekked back toward the property. Although the Rite had occurred just that day, signs of spring were swiftly taking hold. The snow had melted a couple of weeks ago, and the harsh sting in the air had all but dissipated. Before long, the forest would be saturated with fresh color.
“Could we start dinner when we get back?” Brielle asked.
“Don’t be coy. You mean to ask if I will start dinner when we get back,” Cameron said.
“I’m starving!”
“You poor thing,” he crooned.
A dramatic exaggeration if there ever was one. Nikolas ensured they never went hungry. But although they were living in a far grander place than ever, they were dressed more simply. Cameron had little need for armor, choosing light tunics instead. Brielle’s boots were already worn from months of exploring the woods. The hem of her dress was speckled with dirt. Her leggings were comfortable for climbing places she ought not to.
Nerve-wracking as her decisions could be, Cameron had to admire how flushed with life she was these days.
“Wait.” He hurried to Briell’s side and put an arm out to stop her from striding to the next thick root. “Do you hear that?”
He swore he could hear wind, but the pine needles weren’t rustling. Squinting through the sparse foliage, Cameron caught a glimpse of fabric that lay across their path like a wall. All at once, he realized it wasn’t the wind he was hearing.
“Nikolas?” Brielle whispered. “Could he be hurt?”
“Doubtful.” Cameron seized Brielle’s hand and hurried her forward nonetheless.
The Lord of Autumn lay on his back, head turned to face them. His eyes were shut. One hand rested on his chest, while the other sat palm-up on the ground by his face. Late afternoon sunlight dappled through the branches overhead, spilling across his skin. His breathing was steady, chest rising and falling peacefully. The ground, though thawed, shouldn’t have been a comfortable place to nap, but he made it seem so.
Cameron relaxed when all appeared to be well. “I didn’t expect he’d be back already.”
“He must’ve fallen asleep waiting for us,” Brielle said, utterly endeared. “Do you think the ceremony went well?”
“As well as a gathering of childish deities can go, I suppose.”
“Shh!” Brielle glanced up at the branches. “You never know what could be listening.”
“It’s the day of the Rite,” Cameron said back in a mocking stage whisper. “They have more important things to do than listen in on us lowly mortals.” Nonetheless, his gaze briefly wandered in search of the odd snowy owl or rabbit.
Then his attention was inevitably drawn to Nikolas’ relaxed expression. Although Nikolas had nothing to do with the shift of winter to spring, he had still attended the Rite to hold council with his siblings. He had been glum the past few weeks, claiming that he was at his weakest during the spring, given that he was as far from his autumnal power as he could be.
And yet, he was still intimidating. At his full size, there was hardly anything else he could be.
Brielle almost shared the same sentiment. “He looks breathtaking in his sleep, doesn’t he?” she asked, still hushed like she couldn’t bear to wake something so precious.
“Godlike, one might say.” Cameron hummed thoughtfully. “Menacing, another might say. Alarming—”
She elbowed Cameron’s ribs. “Look at him! He’s so sweet.”
“If I recall,” Cameron said sourly, “you would fling acorns at my head and call me lazy when you caught me napping in the Queenswoods.”
Brielle grabbed an acorn from the ground and raised it threateningly. “You had barely lifted a sword on those days. Nikolas has every right to be exhausted after spending the day with his… charming relatives.”
She tossed the acorn, which Cameron nimbly plucked out of the air. He thought she might grab another, but she lost interest in landing a hit. Instead, she turned back to Nikolas and began to approach his sleeping form. Cameron hurried to catch up, taking her arm.
“You were just going on about how sweet he looks—why would you want to wake him?” Cameron asked.
Brielle gave him an impish smile that typically accompanied her worse ideas. “I don’t mean to wake him, silly. How often will this opportunity come around?”
“Opportunity?”
“To simply… admire him. Besides, even if he wakes, it’s not as though he’d be opposed to the attention.” She slipped her hand into Cameron’s and tugged him with her.
Protests bubbled up, but they never reached his lips. She was going to do what she wanted, so he may as well stay by her side to keep her from doing anything too foolish. Besides, he had to admit there was something enticing about exploring Nikolas up close without that intense stare following their every move.
Naturally, they were drawn to his face first. His gentle breathing stirred the air like a faint autumn wind. Brielle reached out first, gingerly brushing a hand over the stubble along his cheek. Her fingers traced the edge of his top lip. She looked at Cameron, eyes sparkling.
“So soft,” she whispered to him. “Feel.”
Cameron was perfectly familiar with Nikolas’ lips, but he reached out anyway. His heart stammered. Gods, it was just like Nikolas to be irresistible even in his sleep.
There was a slight shudder in Nikolas’ breath, and the two of them pulled away swiftly to rid him of the disturbance. Brielle sidestepped and leaned up to push the hair out of his eyes. She pressed a kiss to his forehead, soothing him back into his deep slumber. To Cameron’s surprise, his breathing evened out again.
“He may not sleep for much longer,” Brielle said, stepping away from his face and toward the open-palmed hand behind her.
Cameron bit back a groan. “Meaning?”
She served him another grin. “I want to feel his heartbeat before he wakes. Come on.”
He dragged a hand down his face. “You’ll be the—”
“The death of you. I’m well aware.” She climbed onto Nikolas’ palm, throwing her arms out for balance. “Now, help a lady up?”
He had half a mind to leave her to it—to use a giant deity as her personal playground, and see where that got her. But he trudged toward her, grumbling. The moment he stepped aboard Nikolas’ hand, his heart gave another lurch. There was something to this little adventure, and he couldn’t keep it off his face. Brielle beamed at him like she could read his mind.
Before proceeding, Cameron couldn’t help but kneel down to briefly run his hand over the palm that held them. How many times had he been held in this hand? And yet it felt like the first time all over again. He traced one of the lines, eliciting a small twitch in the fingers curled loosely beside him and Brielle. They needed to move on.
“I swear I can already feel his pulse,” Brielle said in wonderment as Cameron helped her onto Nikolas’ shoulder.
Together, they made their careful way to his chest. His shirt was soft, practically begging for them to curl up in its folds. The warm surface beneath them rose and fell at a steady pace as Nikolas continued to snooze, peacefully oblivious to their presence. When the two of them finally came to a stop, there was something almost meditative about his breathing. Cameron could feel his eyelids growing heavy.
“How beautiful,” Brielle said quietly, dropping down slowly to place a hand over Nikolas’ chest. “To think that someone like him has a heart beating right here. Just like we do.”
Cameron wasn’t sure whether to tease her or agree with her. He didn’t get a chance to decide—at that moment, Nikolas decided he had napped long enough.
The world shifted, and Cameron found himself plunging downward. A cry caught in his throat, while Brielle, who was situated farther above him, screamed for help. Cameron, trying fruitlessly to take hold of the fabric of the shirt, looked up in time to see a massive hand swoop up and catch Brielle.
Cameron’s descent came to a sudden pause when he landed on Nikolas’ lap—too close to the edge. He slipped, briefly catching hold of the inseam of his trousers before falling to the ground between his legs.
“Should I ask what you two were doing?” Nikolas spoke around a yawn, sounding faintly amused.
Before Cameron could orient himself, a hand descended and plucked him from the ground. He found himself reunited with Brielle, who was catching her breath in Nikolas’ other hand. His stare, though groggy, was quickly sharpening with alertness as he regarded the two mortals in his cupped hands.
“Her idea,” Cameron said at once, sitting back against Nikolas’ fingers with a huff.
“No, really?” Nikolas raised his eyebrows, feigning shock.
Brielle scoffed as though she had any right to be offended. But her expression quickly sweetened. “We wanted to be right here with you when you awoke,” she said. “How was the Rite?”
The brightness in Nikolas’ face dimmed somewhat. “Well, Aldwin is certainly pleased to be back in power. He created a whole field of wildflowers outside the sanctum. The show-off.”
Brielle swooned. “I remember I would peek out the window when Lord Aldwin passed by the castle on the first day of spring,” she said. “The trees and flowers flourished along his path—it was all very magical. I was so taken with him as a girl.”
Cameron laughed. “As a girl? You were doing this last year.”
She shrugged. “He’s dashing.”
“You wound me,” Nikolas said, looking thoroughly disappointed. The glint in his eye was unmistakable, though. “That settles it… Cam is my favorite now.”
Cameron wasted no time in beaming smugly at Brielle while she stammered indignantly. She moved to hands and knees, crawling closer to Nikolas’ face. “You said you didn’t have a favorite!” she exclaimed.
“Well.” Nikolas leaned closer, those perfect lips pulling into a smirk. “If you’re allowed to have a favorite season…”
“I didn’t say spring was my favorite!” She threw her arms around Cameron suddenly and snuggled against him. “And besides, Cam can’t be your favorite because he was mine first!”
“Oh, Bri…” Cameron gave her an innocent look and leaned his forehead against hers. He tipped forward as if to kiss her, then stopped short. “But what if Nikolas is my favorite?”
Brielle shoved him back. “You two are insufferable!” She crossed her arms, pointedly turning away from them both as they chortled.
“Come now, you can’t stay mad,” Nikolas said. He brought his hands closer to his face. “If I forgive you for fawning over my brother, can we agree there are no favorites?” He nudged her back with the tip of his nose.
She turned to face him, still pretending to pout. Nikolas moved swiftly, brushing his lips against her cheek with tender grace. She clearly couldn’t continue her dramatics any longer; a smile spread across her face, which only grew wider as Cameron kissed her other cheek. Before long, she was squirming and giggling, telling them that’s enough.
Giving them both a look of overwhelming affection, Nikolas brushed his lips one last time over the pair of them before settling back down on the ground.
“I could use five more minutes,” he said with a yawn, depositing them back onto his chest.
“Not a minute more,” Cameron said, pulling Brielle into his arms and lying down with her. “She says she’s starving. If we don’t have dinner soon, she may resort to devouring me.”
A chuckle rumbled beneath them. “Lucky you.”

My Borrowed Son | 1 | That Day
It would’ve been the perfect day to rain. The divorce was finalized. The house and everything in it were divided up accordingly, but only two boxes of an entire life together had been cracked open. The rest were still taped and shoved in every free space available.
Seven years. It had only been seven years. Well… they don’t call it the seven year itch for nothing, but why did it have to be her?
Amanda Silverstein sat on the edge of the hard plastic bench just beside the playground in the neighborhood she moved into just one month ago.
The sun shone brightly on the metallic structure that made up the playground. The swings drifted back and forth in the light breeze that didn’t reach the clouds high above. It looked abandoned, but school was in session, so no kids were present yet.
In a perfect world, Amanda could have seen her children playing on a playground like this. The house her and her now ex-husband had was next to a lovely playground.
All of these hopes and dreams were now dry and fading like the link signature on the divorce papers sitting on her kitchen table.
They weren’t, however, dry like her eyes. Amanda hadn’t stopped the slow stream of leaking tears since she went on her walk. The warmth of the sun couldn’t penetrate the barrier of numb sorrow strangling her heart. Every moment, she wondered what she could’ve done differently. Could she have spoken softer? Was it the hours she worked? Her desire for kids? What chased him away? Or was it inevitable? Were there too many differences in the first place? Was there anything she could’ve done?
Amanda hung her head and laced her fingers through her hair by her scalp. Deep breath after deep breath, she was managing to keep herself from succumbing to the nausea plaguing her. Head throbbing, she leaned back and stared at the cloudless sky.
It was only now that she realized she wasn’t shuddering with every breath. She filled her lungs and exhaled the first calm breath she had taken in hours.
What was she going to do now? Work, obviously; but what else? The possibilities were endless, and the vastness was all consuming.
It was too much…
And…
Really…
What she was actually asking herself was what was she going to do without him.
Was it even worth it?
Chest clenching in the familiar aching throb, Amanda felt on the verge of another round of sobs when she heard something.
It was a soft sob, and it didn’t come from her. It was a sniffling sob that sounded close, but a quick glance around revealed no one.
Amanda composed herself and wiped her palm against her cheek, smearing what little makeup she placed on her eyes.
“Hello?” she called. The little sob was close, but no one was around her.
More importantly, the sob sounded like it was… under… the bench.
Amanda swallowed dryly and dared her curious side to peer under the bench as she heard another impossibly soft cry. There was no way something was there, right?
She pulled her skirt to the side and looked, heart skipping every other beat in her chest as she did.
Naturally, nothing seemed to be under there… at first.
Then, after a moment of staring intensely and unblinking at the same spot while allowing her eyes to unfocus, she saw some of the tall blades of grass twitch. Amanda held her breath. Did she just see that?
She focused on the same spot and, once again, saw the tall blades of grass twitch and something pull closer to the pole. Mortified, Amanda pulled her whole body up onto the bench, fearing it might be an injured creature like a mouse.
But… how could it be a mouse? It was a light sandy brown and was too round for a mouse.
Perhaps it was one of those crying dolls that a child lost earlier on the playground?
Amanda dared herself again to peer over the edge and, with the utmost care, pulled the blades of grass out of her field of vision.
Almost instantly stunned, she found herself locking eyes with the smallest boy she had ever seen in her life. Soft brown eyes and gaunt features, a boy no bigger than Amanda’s thumb was huddled next to the metallic part of the pole that supported the bench.
Upon seeing Amanda, the child scurried away to the other side of the pole, peering out only a little to reveal his fear filled eyes.
Amanda felt like she was about to faint. Stunned beyond words didn’t cover the rush of emotions she experienced. Completely flabbergasted, Amanda could only stare at the boy, jaw slack with surprise.
Was he real?
Was he a hallucination?
Was this some kind of manifested stress creature because of everything she was going through recently?
She found herself muttering, “Hey there,” before she could stop herself. The boy, who looked thin and filthy, whimpered, and retreated back behind the pole once again, and he didn’t reappear despite Amanda being able to hear him.
Amanda’s anxiety from her own predicament was immediately replaced by questions and concern about this child.
Was he alone?
Was he real?
Where were his parents?
He looked human enough, but he couldn’t be human if he were that small, right?
What should she do? Should she call the police? Or was he more like an animal and, if she touched him, he would be rejected by his family.
What should she do?

hide - gt one shot
hey, so I tried writing a one shot in an hour. I want to write more one shots like this in the future, so feel free to let me know whet you think of this one and what I can improve. criticism is appreciated.
______________________________________________________________
It had just begun and I was already out of breath. We were frantically running around looking for places to hide. We were in a forest during early fall on a cool night, all the leaves were on the ground, crunching under our feet. I ended up hiding in a bush, next to a friend of mine. I didn’t know where anyone else hid. It was dark outside, so no matter where, it should have been hard to find them, at least, for most humans. Soon, almost thirty seconds had passed. We couldn’t quite hear the footsteps in the distance, but we could feel them in the ground.  The vibrations were like feeling the face of the drum when it’s hit. They buzzed through our bones as the source of them got closer. Soon, we could hear the creature's footsteps thumping as they hit the ground. My friend was nervous, he had his hands over his mouth to cover the sound of his heavy breathing, which didn’t work very well. His breathing got louder and faster as we heard a scream in the distance. It just claimed its first victim. Then, the vibrations and footsteps got closer and closer. I could barely see the outline of the creature, standing as tall as the trees, their eyes scanning the ground and glimmering in the moonlight. I ran. I started sprinting as fast as I could from the bush, not wanting my partner's breathing to give me away.
“Hey!” he yelled at me, shocked at my fleeing. I heard them scream as they were caught moments later, but I didn’t dare look back to witness their fate; I kept running and running, trying to distance myself from the large being.
I kept running until I got to a ditch in the ground. I got down on my stomach to hide from the entity that was chasing me. As I looked up from where I was at the naked trees above me. Someone else was hiding in them, sitting on a thick branch and clinging to the trunk. My guess is that they thought since the creature would be looking on the ground, it would be smart to hide up high. Unfortunately for them, it followed the direction I ran in. The white highlights of its eyes were visible from the dozens of yards away where they were standing, and glaring straight at the person in the tree with no emotion at all. The person in the tree panicked as it started to move towards them. They tried to climb down so they could run, going down branch from branch, but they grabbed one that was too weak to hold them. They let out a blood-curdling scream as they fell. I closed my eyes so I wouldn’t see them hit the ground, but they never did. I never heard the sound of bones cracking, or they’re body hitting the ground, or their groans of pain. I opened my eyes. The creature caught her. She was in their hand, shaking but unhurt, as it looked down at her. I quietly got up and started running again the the creature was preoccupied. I counted the number of victims that the entity had claimed. The only people left were me, and some other person. I happened to run into them while sprinting through the forest. After we both processed the pain of the impact, they whispered.
“What are you doing here? This is my hiding spot,” They asked,
“I’m trying to avoid them, we’re the only two left,” I whispered back,
“Well go somewhere else,” they said, “I don’t need you attracting them to me,” Just then, the entity was heard stepping towards us. I looked behind me to see it smiling, practically a couple of steps away from us with its size. “Damnit!”
We both started running as fast as we could, the creature basically seconds away from grabbing us off the ground. Unfortunately, the person I was running aside from had always been a faster runner than me, and I had been running this whole time, so I was already tired. It looked like I was a goner, about to be snatched up by the creature at any second. But then, the other person tripped on the root of a tree. I immediately passed them and heard their yelling from behind me as they were picked up by the entity. I was the last survivor. The winner. All I had to do was get home-
THUD! “Owww!”
I rolled my foot on a rock and fell to the ground. I skinned my arms trying to stop myself from falling. Slowly, the entity stood over me. I started breathing heavily as its white eyes glared at me from above. My arms ached in pain as I held them. It got on its knees, staring at me with its large eyes. It opened its mouth…
“Oh my goodness, are you ok? Your arms look like they need to be bandaged,” the giant said, looking worriedly at me. They helped me up with their index finger.
“I fine, big guy, just some scraps,” I said, dusting myself off. “That was a pretty good game. You really good at hide and seek,”
“I didn’t go too far again, did I” they asked, embarrassed,
“Of course not, you did great,” I said. Then, there was a muffled voice coming from the giant’s pocket;
“Hey, is the game over? Can we come out?”
“Oh, yeah, sorry, of course,” The giant pulled their “victims” out of their pocket and gently placed them on the ground with his palm.
“Bro, why did you run away like that at the bush?” The person I was hiding with earlier asked me.
“Your breathing gave us away,” I said,
“Would you have done that if we were really being chased by a giant monster?” he asked,
“Well, probably if I'm being honest.”
“Scew you,” He said, turning away from me. The girl that fell out of the tree looked up at the giant.
“Thanks for catching me back there, I’m not good with climbing trees,” She said,
“No problem, anytime,” the giant said, smiling at her. The last person besides me to get caught scoffed,
“Why do you always have to be it when we play games like this?” They asked the giant. “Uh, because I’d be really easy to find?” the giant shrugged,
“Fine, let's go again, and have you be one of the hiders this time, just to make sure.” they crossed their arms.
“Nah, it's getting late, let's go home.” one of my friends said.
“Yeah,” said someone else.
“Need me to carry you guys?” the giant asked us. We all nodded. So they picked us all up again, and we went home.

Prompt #30 DP X DC
Danny, as ghost king, gets pulled into a summons with a group of different superheroes (can be all bats, justice league, young justice, titans, etc, whatever) as sacrifices to him. The summoning circle however is not big enough, and he ends up borrower sized and not very intimidating.
Or, alternatively it’s too big and he’s 75 feet tall and looks like the most intimidating mf ever.
He doesn’t have a choice to take the sacrifices, and they end up in his castle until he can get them back to where they’re supposed to be. Unfortunately, he stays at the size he was summoned in because of magic bullshit

Zombie apocalypse with G/T Headcannons!
(Let me have my fun guys, come on-)
. . .
-Borrowers are already incredibly agile and smart, needing to avoid humans daily, but with zombies it's much easier, since they are slower, and less smart than humans! And they probably wouldn't even notice borrowers, they're only after human brains
-Lots of abandoned food and scraps for taking, plus no need to worry about beans! Mostly
-Get caught by a human? Easy! Just pretend to be a zombie! A foolproof plan that definitely won't make you get thrown across the room like a tennis ball!
-Borrower who already lives with humans teaching them how to scavenge and save food
-Group of borrowers fighting off zombies who enter their territory
-Borrowers who leave traps for humans and zombies to get caught in
-Borrower who borrows from a secret underground resistance against the zombies and gets caught trying to trick zombies to come into the humans base so that they can have all the supplies for themselves
-Borrower who gets caught by a human who was pretending to be a zombie to prank their friends the borrower thought it wouldn't care about them since it's a zombie
-Avian borrower who taunts the zombies so that they don't chase the humans and then they get caught because they got hurt and now the humans are freaking out oh no
-Borrower who thought they got caught by a human and is now best friends with a zombie
-giant zombies that are sixty feet high but ignore humans because their brains are too small
-tiny zombies that sneak into your house and bite you while you sleep like mosquitoes
. . .
Aaannddd that's all I have for now!
If anyone takes inspo from this, please tag me, I'd love to see what you guys made!
Speaking of tagging...

pepper & felix
part three
this is my fav chapter so far :D word count: 2.4k
Pepper was in trouble.
It had been a risky decision to try and grab some spinach from the human’s leftover salad— and right now he was suffering the consequences. He trembled behind the mug on the counter, which had been the quickest hiding spot for when the human had entered the room.
It had been ten minutes, and the human was still doing dishes. With the setback of the bowl breaking, it was taking even longer.
Pepper winced. When the bowl had cracked in half only a few inches from his hiding spot, it had been so immeasurably deafening that he couldn’t help but shriek out loud. Somehow, the human hadn’t seemed to hear him.
His soulmate, however, had noticed his sudden terror, and after a few moments Pepper bid him farewell. It was nice to talk to his soulmate for a few minutes just to take his mind off of the situation, but after the bowl incident he was starting to feel too stressed to focus on anything but the human two feet away.
He glared down at the piece of spinach in his hands. This was so not worth it.
A shadow crossed over Pepper, and in that moment he realized that his chosen hiding spot had been a mug… while the human was doing dishes.
“Fuck—!” He muttered under his breath, spinning on his heel, trying to decide if he could make it to the wall without being seen—
The mug was lifted off of the counter in a terrifying display of strength, and Pepper’s heart dropped into his stomach, an icy chill settling over his spine.
“Wha— oh—!”
Pepper only caught a glimpse of startled blue eyes, high above him, before cold adrenaline seized him. He sprinted, dropping the spinach.
He didn’t have a definite escape route, he just knew that he needed to get the fuck out of there. His heart pounded as he made a beeline for the toaster, which he could hide behind, maybe—
Wham.
Pain rocketed through Pepper’s body as he slammed into something and stumbled back, bringing a shaky hand to his forehead. Within seconds, heat and pressure closed around his miniscule frame, and suddenly Pepper’s feet left the counter. No— NO! The world spun around him.
When the movement and vertigo subsided, Pepper gasped for air, arms pinned against his sides. Massive fingers surrounded him.
He was in a hand.
He was in a hand!
His heart dropped past his stomach into the floor down below. Cold realization settled over his spine that he was completely trapped.
Pepper’s parents had drilled one single rule into him from the moment he was born to the moment he moved out. Never, under any circumstances, should you let a human get their hands on you.
Now he was trapped, and there was nothing he could do.
“Woah…”
A voice, low but overpowering, filled the air. Pepper stiffened, staring up at the human whose massive form took up the entirety of his vision.
Blue eyes scanned Pepper’s body, wide and curious. Blonde eyebrows disappeared under a mop of matching blonde hair, and the human’s voice was filled with disbelief when he asked, “What are you?”
Pepper’s heart pounded against the massive thumb pressing into his chest. He barely processed the human’s question, too focused on glancing around, hopelessly trying to find some sort of escape route.
“Can you talk?” The human pressed, either not noticing Pepper’s panic or ignoring it.
Beginning to thrash and squirm against the overpowering hand, Pepper elected not to answer. There was no way he would willingly talk to a human.
Aside from his soulmate, he thought briefly, and in any other situation he would have laughed.
Pepper froze as the human’s second hand approached. A massive finger the size of his body touched the top of his head, ruffling his black hair with a surprising gentleness. After a moment the finger withdrew, and the human leaned forward, squinting at the small borrower.
“There’s no way you’re real,” the human muttered, seemingly to himself.
Pepper couldn’t see very well, but he was fairly certain that he was only being held a few inches above the counter. If he managed to squirm free of the human’s hand, he would probably survive the fall with minor injuries. Then he could escape behind the toaster, where he knew there was a hidden crack in the wall…
The human suddenly seemed to acknowledge Pepper’s thrashing, and he carefully loosened his grip, just enough that the borrower could breathe without gasping for air. Pepper continued to jerk around to the best of his ability.
“Here, little guy, don’t hurt yourself– ah!”
With a sudden determination, Pepper sunk his teeth into the human’s thumb.
The hand instantly snapped open in shock, accompanied by a sharp gasp from the human. Pepper instinctively yelped, throwing his hands out as if to stop the sudden free fall.
Slamming into the counter sent cold pain rocketing through Pepper’s body, but he barely acknowledged it, too focused on getting away. He was on his feet in an instant, bolting towards the wall, the world spinning around him.
“Shit—!”
The massive hand reappeared, attempting to block Pepper’s path, but the borrower was prepared this time. He dodged around the human’s grasp, lightly grazing the fingertips, and dug his heels into the ground to further his stride.
The toaster was only a few inches away when Pepper slammed into something solid for what felt like the hundredth time that night. Expecting to be trapped in a hand, he staggered back, lifting his arms—
—and stared, dumbfounded, at the wall of glass surrounding him.
He spun on his heels, heart still pounding with adrenaline. The human’s face was slightly blurred through the glass, frowning down at Pepper.
“Sorry,” the human murmured, leaning closer to peer in at the borrower. “I don’t want you to bite me again.”
Pepper stumbled back, falling against the glass wall behind him. Pain was beginning to settle over his ribs and arms, his body finally acknowledging that he had been knocked around far too many times in the last ten minutes. Considering he had just been gripped in the hand of a human, Pepper decided that he was alright with a little soreness. The alternative had been death.
The glass cup around Pepper was solid and unmovable. Dread filled his stomach, and he slid down, pulling his knees close to his chest.
“See? You’re okay, little guy,” the human said softly, leaning against the counter. Pepper sent him a miserable glare. Being called “little guy” was so dehumanizing.
He hated being under the scrutiny of such a massive being. After years of hiding in shadows, he felt sick underneath the bright overhead light, trapped inside a glass cup like some sort of bug.
“What the hell are you?” The human wondered, crossing his arms on the counter.
Pepper wasn’t listening. All he could think about was his beautiful sister.
She’ll never even know what happened to him.
Fresh tears began to flow before he could stop them. Pepper choked on his breath and buried his face in his arms, shoulders shuddering with each gasp.
“Oh… you’re crying. Uh, okay, I didn’t mean to scare you, little guy, please don’t—“
“Fuck you.” Pepper’s small voice was thick with tears when he snapped his head up, sending a tear-filled glare up at the human.
The human’s face went blank at Pepper’s words, and silence fell over the two of them. After a few seconds he jerked back, lips parting in shock. “Wh— you can talk?” His words were quick, filled with a sudden panic.
Pepper momentarily regretted his words, but decided that he was already caught, who cares if the human knew he could talk? He huffed, dragging his shaky hands through his sweaty hair. “Fuck. You,” he repeated, more firmly. “You— you don’t own me.”
The human went still, staring down at him through wide, blue eyes. His face was pale.
After a moment his massive hand appeared, slowly closing around the glass. Pepper inhaled quickly, jumping to his feet, ignoring the soreness in his ribs. “Wait, wait, I’m sorry,” Pepper said quickly, fear flaring up in his chest. He stared, wide-eyed, as the glass was effortlessly lifted away and set aside.
He locked eyes with the human, his brief confidence vanishing with the lack of a barrier between them. He hugged himself, feeling smaller than ever, unsure if he should apologize or run away or just cuss the human out.
“I’m… I’m so sorry,” the human said hollowly. “I didn’t mean— I— I wasn’t gonna trap you, I promise, I just wanted to see you. I’m sorry.”
Pepper ran his hands over his arms, at a loss for words. His gaze danced around, lingering on the human’s nearby hands.
“Are you hurt?”
Pepper’s lips thinned. After a moment’s consideration, he glanced down at his body. He was wearing a jacket and pants, and he couldn’t see his skin, but he was very confident that he would have heavy bruises in the morning. (If he lived to see the morning.)
His joints ached, and a soreness filled his entire body, but he didn’t think anything was permanently broken. Considering the circumstances, this was getting off easy.
“I’m… alive,” Pepper said simply, frowning up at the human.
The human exhaled. “Okay, that’s good, I just wanted to—“
“Are you gonna kill me?” Pepper cut him off.
The human blanched, jerking his head back. “Kill you? Dude, wha—? No! No, of course not!” Genuine hurt filled his voice, and he blinked several times, staring at Pepper in concern. He swallowed. “Why would you think that?”
Pepper nearly laughed. “You just grabbed me and then trapped me in a cup,” he pointed out, voice wobbling. “And— and I know humans kill people like me all the time.”
“People like you?” The human echoed. “So… you’re not human…?”
At Pepper’s ashen face, the human continued quickly, “Nevermind. Um, if it makes you feel better, I don’t think most humans even know you exist, let alone would want to kill you.”
Pepper pursed his lips. “That’s good,” he said carefully, keeping an eye on the human’s hands. “I’m… sorry that you found me. I didn’t mean to bother you.”
“You didn’t bother me,” the human said hurriedly. “I promise. I’m sorry about everything. I shouldn’t have grabbed you, or— or trapped you. I didn’t realize that you were, well, a person.” He frowned apologetically. “What’s your name?”
Pepper was startled to receive a genuine apology. He turned the question over in his mind several times before saying flatly, “Pepper.”
“Pepper,” the human repeated. The sound of his name on a human’s tongue made his stomach squirm. “That’s a nice name. I’m Felix.”
“Okay,” Pepper said simply. After a moment, he added, “Can I leave?”
Asking a human for permission to do anything made him sick to his stomach, and judging by the human’s uncomfortable expression, he wasn’t fond of it either.
“Well, yeah! You don’t have to ask. But— do you need help… getting to the door…?” He gestured vaguely to the front door, way across the room. It would take Pepper probably thirty minutes to get all the way over there. “And… I feel weird to ask, but… where exactly are you gonna go?” His gaze danced over Pepper’s tiny form.
The borrower hummed. Right. The human didn’t know that there were more than six entrances for Pepper hidden all over the apartment.
He debated his options. He could be honest and admit that there was a crack in the wall less than six inches behind him, but that might lead to more questions from the human.
Or… Pepper could accept the human’s insane offer to carry him to the front door, placing him inside of a human’s massive hand once again, and then deal with surviving outside of the apartment with barely any belongings, most likely ending in his immediate death.
“Actually…” Pepper sent Felix an awkward smile, inching towards the wall. “There’s an exit right here.”
The human’s eyebrows lifted and he followed Pepper’s point to the toaster. He seemed somewhat confused, and Pepper said heavily, “There’s a crack in the wall, behind the toaster. That’s how I got here in the first place.”
“You live in the walls, then?”
Pepper’s mouth opened, then closed several times. “Um…”
The human— Felix— seemed to understand that Pepper was apprehensive to respond. He nodded quickly. “Uh, it’s okay, nevermind. Here, I’m just gonna…”
Pepper watched in amazement as the human suddenly backed away, hands raised. “Let’s just pretend this never happened, okay?”
The borrower blinked, then slowly nodded.
“I guess I’ll see you around, Pepper.” Felix sent Pepper a quick, encouraging smile before turning around and exiting the kitchen.
Pepper blinked several times, wondering if that had just happened. He stared around the countertop, locking his gaze on the discarded glass cup a few inches away.
Did the human just… let him go?
There was no time to dwell on it. Heart pounding with adrenaline, Pepper spun around, booking it for the wall, making sure to snatch up the piece of spinach as he went. (This can’t all have been for nothing.)
He stumbled through the crack in the wall, mind wandering. Did that really just happen? Was he just caught by a human, only to be released with a couple of bruises?
Felix had actually seemed apologetic, too. A massive, terrifying human had actually felt bad for trapping Pepper. The borrower let out a shaky laugh, wiping at his tears, unable to believe his luck of being caught by a nice human. He almost felt disappointed, knowing he would have to move out now, according to the borrower rules.
He supposed he could just move to a different floor, or to an apartment further down the hall. He wasn’t quite sure how big this building was, but it might be fun to explore a little more. After tonight’s ordeal, he was just happy to be alive.
He was trying to remember which floor Felix lived on when a familiar voice entered his mind.
“Hey– the craziest thing just happened to me.”
The borrower lifted his eyebrow, bringing his interlocked fingers to his chest. “What’s that?”
His soulmate’s next words made Pepper freeze in his tracks.
“I just met a person the size of my finger.”
