I love when Mike addresses the ghosts at all but my favorite is when he says something and then the camera cuts out and they're not even there. like they're in a completely different wing of the house.
so I like to think he slowly becomes more ingratiated into the ghost crew because I mean robin saved his life and they're his wife's family at this point so the least he can do is really buckle down and get to know them all, so he pays attention. he listens to alison's side of the conversation and tries to pipe up more, nervous about interrupting but trying to be more proactive anyway. he memorizes the board, names deaths and time periods he's got like the back of his hand. and he watches. their presence isn't easy to spot, because the only one with a physical impact is julian, but he keeps an eye out anyway. when the TV is on, he can make a pretty good guess at who's program it is. when there are new books in the stands he makes a note to look up a summary. when that window is open, it's thomas soliloquizing, but when it's that one it's for the captain's garden view. he's starting to get it. and the ghosts already incorporated Mike into their lives deaths anyway, so they're largely unmoved and confused by the effort, but sure, maybe a little grateful that he's more mindful of them.
and when he thinks he knows them, really knows them, he starts talking. because if there's one thing mike cooper knows how to do, it's talk. he stops jotting down ghost ideas to bring to alison and starts vocalizing them. passing by the tv and there's a match on? he remarks to pat that he's about to try a new sandwich recipe, if he wants to join him for lunch. absolutely nailed it, mike, gold star work. problem is, pat is in the "living" room listening to thomas describe the worst denim outfit he could imagine. and he lived through the 70s. but mike thinks he's crushing it.
on a trip to the kitchen for tea at 5am when he can't stay asleep one night, who the fuck else might be up this early? cap, that's who! so he leans out the window towards the makeshift starting block and does a couple hushed whoops of encouragement, "hell yeah, rise and grind, bruv! you got this, captain, for king and country and all that!" fuck yeah, mike, got em again. passionate, respectful, cap would love that. incredible work, yet again. he's gonna get a good grade in dead person friends. but, unfortunately, it's Sunday and the captain pushes his warm-up to 0800 hours for a sensible 0900 lap, to be more respectful to alison on her day of rest. but again, Mike is convinced he's doing great.
do you see my vision?

Julian To Kieran
PRIVATE COMMUNIQUE: DO NOT SHARE ON PAIN OF DEATH
From: Julian Blackthorn of Blackthorn Hall
To: Kieran, King of Unseelie
Well, we’re back from the Seelie Court. Good news: we got the fish slice. Bad news: we didn’t learn very much and we raised a lot of suspicion. But I’m happy to share with you how things went in the hope that you will find it informative. I hope also that you will consider it sufficient exchange for the favor you now owe a phouka. (I am pretty sure that favor will involve asking you to buy a hat.)
We were pretty nervous about going, even with Adaon’s invite—the last time we were in Faerie, things were not great. It was all gray smoke and snow and moths and blasted areas of dead land. All of that seems to be over and done with; Faerie looks healthy again. It was autumn there, and the ground was covered in fallen leaves, all red and gold.
Anyway, we followed Adaon’s instructions and entered Faerie through an old barrow at Primrose Hill. We ended up in a forest clearing with two big wooden doors rising up out of the ground. And Adaon was there to meet us, which was nice of him.
But he did not look happy. He hurried over and explained that he had had to tell the Queen we were coming. “There isn’t much that occurs under her roof,” he said, “of which she is unaware. It is how she has maintained her power all this time, in part.”
He looked so miserable that Emma told him it was all fine and we weren’t doing anything that the Queen would disapprove of, or even care about. He just kind of shook his head. “One never knows just what her Majesty will care about. Or disapprove of. She has bid me take you both to the throne room upon your arrival, and so that is what I must do.”
Now I began to feel a bit more nervous. I reminded Adaon that he had guaranteed our safety. He said, “By the laws of hospitality, not to mention the Accords, she may not harm you or detain you, if your purpose be virtuous.” But he was shaking his head again.
“Let me guess,” I said. “The Queen has the exclusive power to decide if our purpose is virtuous or not.”
Adaon smiled thinly. “Quite.” But he brought us to the throne room.
The throne room was just as autumn-themed as the clearing. More so, really. But it wasn’t about the end of the growing season or being sad that summer was over. It was more like a harvest celebration. There were cornucopias, is what I’m saying, spilling over with gourds, apples, pears, corncobs. There were hay bales, which is kind of funny since nobody in that throne room has, I promise you, ever baled hay. There were pixies with fiery butterfly wings, circling the ceiling.
The Queen was, not surprisingly, on her throne. She wore a dress that I swear, was entirely made of glittering green scarab beetles sewed together. Her hair was like an explosion of red-gold flames around her face. She doesn’t look sickly or emaciated anymore, like she did when we last saw her, and she seemed to exude a power she’d been missing before.
There were the usual groups of faeries scattered around the room—courtiers, I guess—gossiping, tittering, sometimes just sitting around being louche. So everything seemed normal there. They barely paid attention to us, just kind of craned their necks over, realized we weren’t interesting, and got back to lounging.
I expected the Queen to immediately start insulting us, but she was actually quite cordial. Not warm. But not unfriendly, either. Of course, she did want to be complimented on the décor first. She waved her hand around at the throne room and opened with, “You choose a fair season to visit us.”
“It’s cheerier than last time,” Emma said.
“And yet you have chosen to return,” the Queen said, as though she was pleased about it, “despite the…lack of cheer at our last meeting.”
“It has been a long time since we saw our friend Adaon,” I said. “We sought the pleasure of his company.”
“Sayest thou such?” said the Queen, which I suspect is Faerie-speak for So, that’s obviously bullshit.  “As you must know, it is not outside the realm of my knowledge that your brother is the consort of the Unseelie King.”
“Only one of his consorts,” Emma pointed out.
The Queen ignored her. “Surely you’ve anticipated that I would suspect you of espionage.”
“We are not here for the Unseelie King,” I said, “but rather regarding our interests in the Seelie Court. Indeed, our family is connected to the Seelie Court in several ways. As you know.”
The Queen ignored me as well. “Your best defense, it seems to me, is that you are such obvious choices for espionage, that surely Kieran Kingson [I think this was meant to be an insult to you, me or both of us] would be cleverer than to choose you as his spies.”
“That too,” Emma said.
“Well, then,” the Queen said. “Spin me a tale. What is your purpose here?”
I felt like we had nothing to lose with the truth—we really weren’t doing anything the Queen should care about. So I gave her the whole story: we inherited a house in London; the house is cursed; we want to undo the curse. I emphasized that neither the house nor the curse were fey-related at all. (I did not bring up Round Tom, as I thought it would be distracting to the main point.)
Breaking the curse requires that (among other things) we get our hands on this fish slice; we’ve learned the fish slice is or was in the possession of Socks MacPherson the phouka; we’ve come to bargain with him for it, and we arranged an invitation through Adaon because we had no way to contact MacPherson directly.
“All we need to do,” Emma said, “is barter with MacPherson for the fish slice. We can do it right here in the throne room, if he could be sent for.”
The Queen looked very interested all of a sudden. “You are willing to do the business here, and never enter the Court proper at all?”
I explained to the Queen that we strongly shared her desire for us not to have to enter the Court.
She seemed surprised, but she called over one of the courtiers and murmured to him. “The phouka will be sent for,” she said. “Prince Adaon, when the Nephilim have concluded their negotiation with him, you will escort them back outside and see them off.” Adaon bowed his assent. “And now,” she said, and her eyes flicked over to one side, “I must beg your pardon, as I see that I am needed.”
We stepped aside to let her descend the throne. I saw that a man had come in who I didn’t recognize—but he was clearly someone of importance given how differently he was dressed than anybody else there. Rather than garb appropriate to court, he was in a gray-green hooded cloak, and his face was obscured by a mask like a falcon head. His clothes were more appropriate to hunting in the woods than anything else, but they were perfectly clean. I didn’t know what to make of him—but I thought I had better pass along his description to you. You said to look for anything new or out of place, and I couldn’t help feeling like he was.
We waited around and chatted with Adaon for a couple of minutes and then Socks MacPherson showed up. We’ve met a couple phoukas before—one of them is the gatekeeper at the LA Shadow Market, as you might remember—and I had thought maybe MacPherson would turn out to be one of those, but no, totally different guy. He was wearing a huge round fur hat that his ears stuck through. It was a lot of hat.
He seemed surprised that the Queen had left us alone, and said he was sorry if we had been harassed overmuch on his account. I said she had probably meant to loom over us but had been called away unexpectedly. MacPherson shrugged and said, “She thinks everything is a move in some game of five-dimensional chess she is playing. But sometimes, someone only wants to trade me something for a kitchen tool. Speaking of which, I have the fish slice.”
He took it out of a kind of carpet bag he had brought with him, and immediately the Ghost Sensor went off like crazy and he kind of jumped away and hid behind one of the groups of courtiers. Although we could still see his hat. (And his ears twitching above the hat.) So we had to go over and explain that it was just a device that detected the cursed objects we were looking for and that the noise was good because it confirmed that the fish slice was the one we wanted. The courtiers shooed us away; they had some important luxuriating to get to that we were delaying.
Socks grumbled that of course “that miserable Spoon” gave him a cursed fish slice. “I don’t know why I took the deal,” he said. “I don’t have any use for this thing. I’m a vegetarian.”
Finally he asked what we were offering, we told him a favor from you and explained how it was we were qualified to offer such a thing. He said the offer was acceptable and we took home the fish slice.
To sum up: Socks MacPherson is protected by the Seelie Court but didn’t blink at accepting a favor from the Unseelie Court. The Queen remains suspicious, both in the sense that she suspected us and in the sense that her behavior was itself weird. The Seelie Court is definitely hiding something, given how relieved the Queen was the minute she realized we weren’t going to actually leave the throne room and enter the court to look around. I have a feeling, based on nothing really — that it’s not a something but a someone that they’re concealing—if it was an object surely they could just hide it somewhere we wouldn’t see it? But, it’s just a feeling.
So that’s it. My deepest gratitude to you, as always, for all your help. I’m sure you were anticipating more information than the above, but hopefully it will be of some use to you.
Our love to Mark and Cristina, and to you of course. And above all, glory to Kraig.
Julian

Have you ever heard of Amaury Guichon or watched any video of him? Because I'd love to see your HCs for the M6 seeing a MC who does the same thing 😆
The Arcana Mini-HCs: M6 when MC makes chocolate sculptures
Julian: on the outside, he's admiring your skills. on the inside, his doctor self is calculating the sheer amount of sugar involved and getting very worried for your health (do you eat it all yourself?!)
Asra: okay, but consider - a life-sized chocolate house, with magically reinforced candy bubbles, and a tunnel system around the walls for Faust to peek in and out. no? okay but what if it was holographic?
Nadia: very impressed and thinks that all of Vesuvia should be able to admire your skill. has started counting down the days until the weather will be cool enough to display a sculpture in the town square
Muriel: honestly a little intimidated - yes, he carves wood too, but wood doesn't melt. or bend out of shape as easily. or attract wildlife because it smells like food. or poison small animals - careful, MC!
Portia: she's in love with it and she's introducing you to the Palace chefs so they can display your stuff at dinner parties. also, she wants to know who your supplier is. now. there's chocolate cookies to make
Lucio: his sweet tooth has him drooling. hey MC, could you make a chocolate sculpture of him? with the arm? with gold flakes?! don't worry, he'll eat it, the dogs will help him - what do you mean, poison?!

omg. chip rinn is now literally a heartless bastard. except now, hes pushing his friends out of the way of fireballs even when they can take it, willingly helping people in need, and ensuring the people they take onto the ship that they dont need to put themselves in danger. hes returning someone he loves to his mother, gifting an asset to the person he feels really deserves it, and taking an island under his wing. hes putting himself in danger to ease his friends mind, just because he was asked to. hes spending hundreds of gold on a gift to bolster his crewmates, who hes not even that close to, confidence. hes come so far from bringing julian as a meat shield, and convincing gillian to embarrass himself. now, instead of harming people to scare them away, he helps them and gives them the option to stay with him. for the first time, in a long time, chip has positive relationships with npcs that arent rowdy and energetic, people who dont get attached easily but are steadfast when they get there.
something something the poetry of losing everything and continuing to improve as a person, something becoming a literal but contradictory version of yourself from the year before, on your journey to heal the only part of you you thought you could fix. something starting your journey as a heartless bastard, gaining a heart, setting off to find your father, and losing a heart, putting you right back where you started (literally, in the black sea) and yet so much further than you ever could have imagined from the scared child you were then.

Hello!
Welcome to my TSC blog, a place where I cause shenanigans and post fanfiction!
I REALLY like TID/TMI/TEC and the content associated with them, but above all else I am a TLH enthusiast. Chain of Gold, Chain of Iron, and (especially) Chain of Thorns are my favourite books. I also love the TLH-related short stories and bonus content.
Here's a link to my TSC-inspired playlists!
My favourite characters are Matthew (my beloved my bestie my very life), Alastair, Thomas, and Cordelia. The ships that live rent-free in my head are Thomastair, Herondaisy, and Wessa. This is mainly what I write fic about!

Hi! I was wondering if you could write about the M6 having baby fever? It can be nsfw and or sfw, I don't really care! Thank you!
Hi, my fellow julianist-smutter! As before, I'll randomly pick the spicy level for each character and write them in whatever-my-mind-blurts-out-first-order. The adult themes will be on a properly flagged reblog!
Key: ◇Random/cute/funny stuff; ♡romanticism/physical affection/teasing; ♧light smut&fluff; ♤hic sunt DONGS, minors def nope out
~♡~
[F!reader]
Portia keeps getting home late without any reasonable explanation. When pressed she blurts ovious lies, so you start to grow suspicious, then jealous. One day it gets the best of you, and you decide to follow her...
...up until the magic shop?! Is she...? And Asra??? You hear them talking quietly, so you sneak in from the backdoor. Portia seems... distressed? Hopeful...? Asra is explaining something complex from a big, old book.
Days later you get that book with an excuse, and magic helps you find the page they were looking at. The spell seems very complicated. Some kind of ritual that involves two women, a man, some fresh rainwater and nine full moon cyc...
Oh.
Oh.
Blood flushes to your face and somewhere else. You slam the book shut in embarrassment, and put it back. You're not sure about how to talk with Portia, for your hart is full of a warmth your words can't express.
You decide to let her be the one talking about it, when she'll feel ready.
~♡~
Nadia keeps pulling out pictures of when she was young, talking about all of her fondest childhood memories and how blessed is an home full of children.
She gets you to se Pepi's new litter, and you see her melt internally as she holds one of the tiniest fluffy balls.
One day you find her and Natiqua with Nadia's nephew. They've come to visit even though she went to see the newborn just few weeks ago. With an excuse, Natiqua hands you the little one, who grabs your hair and doesn't let go. The sisters laugh, whispering something in Pakran. God where's Julian when you need him.
One day she gifts you a beautiful calendar. It's gilded in gold and powered lapis, with beautiful illustrations of the two of you each month. Some days are marked. This time Julian's around, and bursts out laughing when he recognizes a fertility pattern.
Looks like you're gonna do this.
Lucio is super happy. He's always wanted to be the cool uncle.
Little does he know, Noddy has a comprehensive list of what games, tales and shenanigans will and won't be allowed.
~♧~
You and Lucio have a pregnancy scare. He panics, cries that he's too cool and young to be a dad (he's not, he's 40). Disappears hunting in the woods for a week.
He must have met his mother, because when he comes back at the Palace his left cheek is red and swollen.
Thank the gods it was just a scare.
The days after, Lucio starts to act weird. You caught him staring at you with a dumb dreamy smile.
He tells you he bought new animals from the red market. You're expecting crocpdiles, but fing wourself surrounded by hundreds of the cutest ducklings you've ever saw.
Mercedes, Melchior and Pepi are -burp- very happy of this.
You spend two days consoling Lucio.
Then he brings home ten "kittens".
They're tiger cubs.
Mercedes and Melchior happy.
Pepi very not happy.
Nadia and Portia extremely not happy.
When he arrives with a baby dolphin to substitute the vampire eels, Nadia snaps and tell him to go make a baby already if he so wants small things around him
That evening, you enter your room to find him laying on your bed, rose petals all around you, magical windchimes dangling over the bed.
"It MUST BE a great idea, Noddy had it!"
~♧~
Asra is the one who doesn't realize he has baby fever. Everyone else knows he has it, everyone is lowkey laughing about it, but god fkrbjd someone makes him notice.
You are now subscribed to detailed reports of Asra's paternity dreams. He goes on and on describing the beautiful white haired baby he dreamt, they were sleeping on his chest, with a cute pijama with small red foxes embroided on it. Each day he adds new details.
Every morning you wake up to a different, exotic breakfast in bed. "I figure you wanted chestnuts with spiderhoney" "I got you yak salty milk with spices!" "Hey, I brought you the deer horn flour sourdough you asked me for... what do you mean you didn't asked me for it? I deamed you were craving it?! Again?"
He's also all over you, night and day. If it was for him, you'd never leave the magic shop.
He takes every chance he gets to hug your belly. Now you're both used to him falling dead asleep there after going down on you. Sometimes he gives tiny kisses on your belly as he sleeps, and you smile while passing your fingers through his hair.
When you finally confronts him about it, he blushes violently and denies everything.
"So, if I told you you can take me now and do as you please, hre on the shop's counter without even locking the door, you wouldn't do it?"
He does it.
~♢~
Julian has worked with quite a number of babies, lately. Thanks to Nadia, now people eat better and are healthier, so they enjoy their life -and Vesuvia's nightlife- way more. This lead to a massive wedding season, and for the first time in his life the women and men who send for Julian night and day aren't lovers (or scorned spouses), but anxious parents of chubby newborns.
It's a lot of work, but for the first time in forever he's strangely not complaining about it. The doctor sleeps very little, but has a constant dumb grin. He is also very confused.
Tired like, he told Asra to "Open wide the mouth, vessel's coming!" while going in with a tongue depressor to take a look at his sore throat. Mouth free, Asra winked. "As big as I remember you Jules, maybe vessel IS an exaggeration"
Julian's house is now full on tiny gifts from the babies (and their parents): handprints on canvas, first drawings (he SWEARS that black spot behind red scribbles is his eye-patch), even a little elephant doll a two year old was adamant about giving him. "I'll put it aside for when he'll want it back, I'm positive it will happen"). You could SWEAR though, that there's a note of horror in his voice when he says so.
As usual, the nsfw ones will be in THIS reblog :)

Group A, Round 3, Poll 1:
Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut
Emma Frost
Telepath, which is *the* gaslight-gatekeep-girlboss superpower, especially when you’re a supervillain! Emma’s rich, grew up rich, left her shitty abusive homophobic dad, and then proceeded to lie steal manipulate and leave brain dead everyone in her way to become a millionaire and one of the heads of the rich people kink club that secretly runs the world. Yes this is 100% canon since 1980 thank Chris Claremont. She’s a Bitch (affectionate, self identified). She mindwipes people all the dang time. She once blew up a horse to convince a teenager to murder her coworker. She is girlbossing so close to the sun (Dark Phoenix) she ends up comatose and nearly dead like multiple times and then just gets up and keeps Girlbossing! Her secondary power is to turn into literal diamond, which she learns after she’s like the only survivor of a six-million person genocide, and then uses entirely to fuck people up. I’d say she’s definitely girlboss 1st, there are no limits to the things she can’t girlboss, and her real superpower is being rich and ruthless, gaslight 2nd, because she is a telepath who constantly manipulated people for fun, and then gatekeeper 3rd, because, well, she is trying to build a community for all mutants, so her hate keeping is very much telling humans to fuck off (when not manipulating them for money) but justified gatekeeping is still gatekeeping. Kick Tony Stark and Carol Danvers off your property when they try and moralize at you Queen.
She’s a mutant telepath who started off as a super villain and now uses that bitchiness and moral grayness to serve her ethnostate…for the children
She's da blue print babeey
Preminger
Preminger's entire relationship with Queen Genevieve is built off of Gaslighting, Gatekeeping and Girlbossing her. He is stated to be the son of a peasant and rose to become the Queen Genevieve's main advisor. He then steals all the gold in the Kingdom making it go bankrupt and he never tells anyone apart from his minions about this. He kidnaps Princess Annaliese and writes a note, that makes it seem to Queen Genevieve that she's run away instead of being kidnapped. Then he tries to kill Princess Annaliese and tells her mother Queen Genevieve that she died in a mine accident caused by Julian the Princesses tutor. Then on the same day as he told her, that her daughter was dead he proposes to Queen Genevieve by figuratively backing her into a corner and giving no option to say no. Truly a master of Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss.

So I've been reading a few of the Barbie Princess and the Pauper essays that are floating around the internet (mostly Tumblr) and I've got a theory that Preminger killed the King, before the movie takes place.
First of all I'd like to give a lot of credit and a big thank you to @rin-the-shadow for their brilliant analysis of the timeline of the movie that helped me massively in figuring out when Preminger would have killed the king for the theory. Since the ages of the characters are not stated anywhere, or even implied, within the movie itself. So there's not a lot to work with in terms of timing.
I'd also like to thank my two close friends who helped me come up with this theory.
So first for a bit of a background, in the movie the King isn't mentioned at all, and we only see him once at the beginning of the movie, which is in the prologue. From this evidence, it's incredibly safe to say he is dead by the time the movie takes place. Now If we look at Rin's analysis and the evidence they use from the movie, they state Preminger comes into the role of Queen Genevieve's advisor when Annaliese is around 6 years old.
From here the timeline becomes messy, as we don't know when Julian becomes the tutor to Annaliese. I'm assuming that he becomes her tutor at least 3-5 years before the movie begins. This is a bit clearer if we again look at Rin's analysis, in which they theorise about the difference in time between Julian and Preminger's arrival at the palace: as they state with more movie evidence in which Julian can remember living in the village. As well as this Annaliese and Julian are really close at the beginning of the movie, which shows they've gotten to know each other really well. So I think that Julian is a bit older than Annaliese, not by much though, so I'm going to say he's about 2 years older than Annaliese.
This leaves about 5-6 years maximum for Preminger to get rid of any evidence he may still have lying around from him murdering the King, from him coming to the castle to Julian's arrival at the palace.
So for the theory itself, I think that Preminger murdered the King a year or two into his role as the Royal Advisor. Now you may be asking why Preminger would kill the King?
That's because I think the King was incredibly close to discovering Preminger's plan to steal the gold, so he decides to murder him in order to truly get rid of him, and keep his plan secret. This is because the King was probably the smartest out of him and Genevieve at the time, therefore the King would question Preminger more. And lets be real for a moment he probably realised that Preminger is clearly evil. While Annaliese would be about 7 or 8 according to the timeline, so she'd be too young at the time and less of a concern to Preminger.
Now by doing this, Preminger in fact gets a few things out of murdering the king. The main one being that he can keep his plan secret much longer, allowing him a greater chance at succeeding. The second thing he gets out of this, is now an increase of power through Queen Genevieve.
Throughout the movie, it's shown that Preminger has Queen Genevieve completely under his thumb, a massive example being when he proposes to her (we'll be coming back to this piece of evidence later). And from this we can assume that for a while before the start of the movie, Preminger was essentially making the decisions for the Kingdom while manipulating Genevieve into agreeing with him. Or making it look like she's the one truly making the decisions.  (Because as much as I love Genevieve, it's clearly shown, at best she's completely dependent upon Preminger, and at worst dumb on her own)
Once Preminger kills the King this leaves grieving Annaliese and a vulnerable Queen Genevieve. She's now a widow, with a kingdom and a child to not only look after, but make sure she's an experienced heir to the throne. On top of that she's going to be grieving and that's going to make things a lot harder for her.
This is where Preminger's manipulation of Queen Genevieve truly begins. Through her grief Preminger can manipulate her by making it seem like he's helping her work through her grief, while also making it seem like he's the answer to her problems of taking care of the kingdom. As a result this increases the power and wealth Preminger holds, whilst making Queen Genevieve completely dependent on him over time.
This leaves the timeline looking like this:
.Genevieve and the King become a couple
.Annaliese is born
.Preminger is hired as the Royal Advisor when Annaliese is about 6
.The King is murdered by Preminger when Annaliese is about 7 or 8
.Julian is hired
.The events of the movie happen
All that is left now is to figure out how the King was murdered. Now if you've seen the movie or have seen a review, you know that when he has to, Preminger is 100% willing to murder people. This is shown when he tries to murder Annaliese and Julian by causing a cave-in, within the Royal Mine. Which happens because Julian and Annaliese are smart enough to realise that Preminger is evil. And by this point murder is Preminger's only option to secure his plan.
The evidence is also important, as it reinforces how experienced Preminger is when it comes to manipulating Genevieve, because the next two scenes are when Preminger exposes Erika and then the proposal scene. The proposal scene shows how he uses Genevieve's own grief against her, to marry her in order to become king (and completely disregarding any emotions she may have about this situation). It not only shows that he has total power over her, since she doesn't even make a verbal response she just turns around and holds her hand out for the ring to be placed on her finger. It also shows that he is very used to doing this and knows that in this situation all he has to do is present himself as the solution to her problem. But this time he's gotten so desperate and thinks that he's won so he doesn't even bother hiding his evil intent from Genevieve. As by this point he's managed to figuratively and literally back her into a corner where he is her only option.
Going back to how Preminger murdered the King, he has a few options for how he can do it.
He can make it look like an accident or natural causes
He can make it look like someone else murdered him
Not care at all how it looks and get rid of the evidence later
Again from looking at the movie, when he tries to murder Annaliese and Julian by collapsing the mine, he at least tries to make it look somewhat like an accident (at least I think he does, please correct me if I'm wrong). So I'm more inclined to go with option 1 for his method. We also have to remember that the movie is set loosley somewhere in the 16th century. So there's more ways to get away with a crime, and it's before Julian arrives at the palace, meaning Preminger has less to worry about when he commits the murder.
Preminger also seems like the type to not have much physical involvement in a murder, that is yet again shown in the mine collapse scene. So I'm going to say that Preminger most likely poisoned the king.
This is because poison was widely available at the time, with apothecaries selling poisons as some poisons had functions apart from murder. This means that he can easily get it and get more if he ever needs to.
So to summarise the theory, Preminger murders the King because he's coming too close to discovering Preminger's plan to gain power and chooses to kill him by poison. This leaves Genevieve vulnerable to Preminger's manipulation that while not making him just yet, gives him a bigger increase of power while pushing his plan further along. Then the events of the movie occur that force him to change his plans and in turn bring about Preminger's downfall and defeat.
So that's it! Sorry this got a bit long.
Thanks for listening to my rambles.

I know I keep bringing the Matt Fraction run up but MAWS isn't the first time Jimmy's been filthy stinkin' rich. It makes sense that they basically took the "you now have insane kajillion-follower youtuber money" route rather than making the Olsen family old (gold rush) money. And in the comics, Jimmy's videos do end up being a vital asset to the Daily Planet. I do hope we still get to meet Julian and Janie Olsen someday, but this money thing could set up a whole bunch of wild Silver Age shenanigans, could just be a convenient plot device ("Jimmy has a helicopter with the Flamebird insignia on it now, don't worry about it" sort of stuff), or this could even end up being the seed money which gets S.T.A.R Labs started, since we haven't seen S.T.A.R Labs yet.
And again 5.6 million would be a shoestring budget for an interstellar/alien tech research lab, which would kind of lean into the ongoing theme of a lot of the characters of this show being much more inexperienced and scrappy than a lot of their previous iterations.
...Professor Hamilton could lowkey be a Doc Brown figure in that case.

Bubbly
(A/N I'm traveling again, so you know what that means! 20-minute fic time. Sorry in advance for any spelling/grammar errors. Thank you to @wanderingwriter87 for prompting this one!)
“Are you flirting with me?”
Garak blinked. He hadn’t expected that response; in fairness to Bashir’s position, he had just dropped a rather obvious innuendo. But he had done that before, and it had never resulted in any action…
And, of course, he must consider the answer as well. The answer, the truthful one anyway, was yes- of course. But what reason could Bashir have for asking him like this? To pursue a relationship? To tell him to stop flirting altogether?
Garak internally groaned at the thought. Even if he couldn’t have Bashir, the idea of never bantering with him again was unfortunate and borderline unbearable.
Finally, after what he was sure was an incriminating pause, he said, “would you like me to be?”
Bashir gave him a bland, exasperated look. “Just answer the question.”
Garak attempted to maintain eye contact, but in this regard, as with so many other things, Bashir was an anomaly. He wondered what it was about those gold and green eyes that made him want to flinch back.
“Well, my dear–”
“It really is a yes or no question, Garak.”
Garak huffed. “Is there a reason you’re asking me this in the middle of the day? At lunch of all places?”
Now that he wasn’t hiding his secret, Bashir's eyes betrayed his intense intelligence at every turn. They’re positively gleaming as he said, “so you can’t run.”
Garak couldn’t deny that he felt remarkably like prey.
“No, Doctor,” Garak lied. “Of course not. You have such an overactive imagination sometimes.”
Bashir’s face changed again to an expression Garak was irritated to find he was familiar with. The face he makes when he knows he’s about to win.
“Liar,” is all Bashir said as he sipped his drink.
“Well, if you know the answer,” Garak couldn’t help but complain, “why did you bother asking?”
Bashir smiled, “I was curious, I suppose. I figured you’d deny it, but you can never be one hundred percent certain.”
“What a pleasure it is to help you in the pursuit of science, Doctor,” Garak said without pleasure. In fact, he started to feel rather exposed. Their game had been blown up, just as he had become familiar with the ground in their relationship.
“I’ve been flirting with you, too,” Bashir said simply.
“Oh.”
“Oh,” Bashir mocked. “So there you have it.’
Garak blinked at him again and picked up his fork. He wasn’t quite sure where this left them.
“So,” Bashir prompted.
“So?”
“So, now what?”
“Now…? Doctor, perhaps it has escaped your notice, but we’re at war. Now nothing.”
“Well, that’s a defeatist attitude.”
“You’re the one who said our odds of survival was 32.7%.”
“Makes seizing the day all the more important, don’t you think?”
Garak inclined his head in acknowledgment. “That may be true, but there is also the reality that we share a living space. This is hardly–”
“We may not get another chance,” Bashir said, suddenly very intense. “This is now or never, and I don’t want it to be never.”
Garak glanced helplessly around, but all he saw were the listless faces of all the other members of the Defiant crew in various states of dissociated eating.
“Garak,” Julian said a little suddenly, almost nervously. “I don’t want to push you into anything. I know I have that tendency. But… But… If you are interested, I packed a mini holoprojector before we left. I thought maybe the crew would need some cheering up. After our shifts tonight, I thought we could perhaps… Watch one. Together, that is.”
Garak paused again before he leaned in closer. “I smuggled in a bottle of spring wine.”
Julian’s answering smile was luminescent. “So… I’ll see you tonight?”
Garak smiled back. “Only the Jem'hadar could keep me away.”
That was a simple, grim reality.
Julian opened his mouth to respond when his comm beeped, alerting him that his lunch break was over at the same time that Garak’s did.
“Duty calls,” Julian said.
“For both of us.”
“Stay safe on the bridge. I’ll see you tonight.”
Garak felt something flutter in him as he nodded. The war raged on, Tain was dead, Cardassia was in danger, and yet…
And yet… He felt a dangerous, almost cloying feeling bubble up in him. Something that oddly almost reminded him of root beer.
Federation insidiousness at its finest, he thought with a shockingly obvious grin.

Running Close to the Wind Review
Tumblr media
Running Close to the Wind comes out June 11th in the US, and June 13th in the UK, so make sure to preorder it or mark the date, because it's a gem of a book.
Pirates but make it gay and absolutely unhinged. Then take that, and make it horny and polyamorous. Congratulations, you now have Running Close to the Wind.
Avra, lucky poet and partially retired spy for Arast, accidentally stole the one trade secret most of Arast’s fortune is based on. He also accidentally reunited with Captain Tevari, a pirate with a ruthless reputation and his on-again off-again ex of the past fifteen years, who may or may not want him dead, or at the very least as far away from them as possible. To keep himself from being thrown overboard, Avra reveals to Teveri and their crew the secret he’s stolen, and together they devise a plan to sell it and make as much money off it as possible. Enters Julian, an extremely attractive monk bound by an unfortunate vow of celibacy, scholar extraordinaire and last essential piece to help them achieve their plan. Avra now has three problems on his hands: finding a way to sell the secret without being found out and killed by Arast, make up with Teveri, and convince Julian to abandon his vow of celibacy.
Forget everything you’ve just imagined about this book, forget the comparisons to Our Flag Means Death and Six of Crows, however accurate they may be, because whatever your expectations are about this book, it will blow them away. I went in with high expectations, both because of the promise of a heist like in Six of Crows, one of my favourite books ever, and because I loved A Taste of Iron and Gold, the first and only Alexandra Rowland book I’d read. Despite this, nothing had prepared me for the wild, unhinged ride that Running Close to the Wind proved to be.
Alexandra Rowland introduces us to fiery, vivid characters, whose personalities both clash and compliment one another’s. Avra could be an obnoxious and annoying character, what with his exuberant personality and endless supply of dirty jokes, but instead I found him most endearing, and it was incredibly easy to empathise with him and long for his happy ending. Similarly, Teveri’s personality could have driven me away. Instead, and partly thanks to Avra’s adoration of them, they were so easily lovable and relatable. And Julian’s wit and daunting complimented this pair so well, bringing nuance while playing into their games. This made for delicious relationships, and dynamics that had me cackling and squealing, and made me yearn for more development of their relationship, yearn to know what would happen and how it would end. From a writer’s point of view, I am admirative of Alexandra Rowland’s well-proven ability to play with a variety of characters and personalities, and render them all equally vivid and compelling, and to make readers fall for all kinds of relationships, from the calm one in A Taste of Gold and Iron to the fiery one in Running Close to the Wind.
Another thing I loved and admired was the balance between plot and character arc. This story is cleary character-led and the point of it is not so much what happens to the secret, although it is an important part of the story, as what growth the characters undergo. And grow they do. These arcs were mastered from start to end, and Alexandra Rowland found just how much of character arc and how much plot they could give us so that the story would neither feel plot-heavy nor character-heavy. This is no easy feat, but Alexandra Rowland mastered it seamlessly, and it merits some applause.
Overall, Running Close to the Wind is like no other book I’ve ever had to pleasure to read. It is wild and hilarious, and I don’t remember the last time a book made me laugh so much, but I’ll definitely remember that time. This story reads well and quickly, the worldbuilding blending it perfectly with the rest, even for those who haven’t read or don’t remember much about the worldbuilding of A Taste of Gold and Iron, set in the same world. Running Close to the Wind is a masterpiece of a story, lighthearted and yet treating serious topics without weighing down the atmosphere of the book. It is endlessly fun, surprisingly crude and dirty in its jokes, and vivid from beginning to end. Those who have loved Freya Marske’s books will most likely love this book as well, as will Alexandra Rowland’s fans and anyone interested in queer pirates. If you dislike sex-related jokes or crude language, refrain from reading this book, as it is riddled with such jokes and language—and it is what makes part of its charm.
Thank you Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for provinding me with an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are mine and unbiased.

TLH/TDA Cover Parallels and Analysis
The TSC cover poll by @kaitcreates made me realize how the TSC covers are so well intertextually connected between each other, especially the TLH and the TDA ones. So, I analyzed them.
Tumblr media
We have Cordelia on the cover of Chain of Gold, while Emma, who is her descendant, is on the cover of Lady Midnight. The tone of TLH is warmer autumn colors compared to the blue and green (like the sea, an important symbol of the series and LA) hues of TDA. Also, the way the characters pose is different: Cordelia is standing before a palace's gate, supposedly, the London Institute, and she's starting her new life, Cortana ready to slash whatever comes her way. Emma, on the other hand, seems like drowning and Cortana is slipping from her hands. At some point of the story, both had to give up on their precious weapon.
Tumblr media
Chain of Iron features Lucie facing a forest at night which has colors I associate with winter, the season in which it should be set. The moths are a symbol of change, mystery of the night, and death/endings and you can understand why they were on her cover. Coi ends with Jesse's soul disappearing after Belial is cast out of his body. But it's also a beginning because Jesse comes back to life by the end. And it all matches perfectly with the cover of Lord of Shadows, with Julian on it. I think we can safely say that Julian is Lucie and Jesse's descendant. The mood is very dark and he's also underwater like Emma. Water is a symbol of life but also of chaos and healing. In Qoaad, Julian turned off his emotions in order not to fall deeper for his parabatai Emma and endanger both their lives because of the parabatai curse. He holds the Blackthorn sword which we know it's destroyed in CoT, while Lucie holds the Blackthorn locket. The LoS ending matches the CoI one because in the former Jesse comes back to life, while in the latter, Livvy dies. She was the Blackthorn character that until her death wore the Blackthorn locket, which was worn by Jesse before he gave it to Lucie. Full circle, again with the descendants!
Tumblr media
Cordelia faces a pretty London palace on CoG. Lucie faces a dark forest full of unknown creatures. On the Chain of Thorns cover, Grace faces a place in ruins (Blackthorn Manor?). The colors of this cover give spring vibes and in fact, if we consider the epilogue, it ends in spring, the season of new beginnings and where everything blooms again. While Emma and Julian are in a place underwater where they can be saved (they aren't too deep), the last character featured on the Queen of air and darkness cover, Annabel Blackthorn, has pretty much sunk to the bottom of the ocean and she is beyond saving. We can tell from the Titanic-esque ruins behind her feet that she's hit the bottom, literally and figuratively. Annabel was angry because she was brought back against her will, and in her fit of anger, she ended up killing Livvy and she lost her life for good after. Grace has the opposite features as Annabel, and for good reason. While Annabel can only go back to the world of the dead, Grace has a change at getting her life back and start anew. We can say both Annabel and Grace shared a similar fate: their so called Blackthorn "parents" manipulated and abused them and they both lived half a life. Unlike Annabel, who, I said, is at the bottom and is hopeless and gone for good, Grace facing the ruins of the place were she used to live also means starting anew. Starting from the bottom, from the ashes, but in the hopeful way. It means finally living the life she wants to live.
I know that "the last hours" is taken from Great Expectations and is also a quote Magnus says. But this quick analysis also brings to the surface how the last hours could indeed be the last moments of sadness and desperation, before getting through and making it out alive. In comparison, TDA's tone is darker but it also shows that humans are able to survive the worst and going above water to breathe again after tragedy and tough life choices they have to face.
