imagine having to go through being a Jane Austen fangirl in 1817. this unknown author dropped banger after banger. then died. then put out two more bangers. you go through sixteen enemies-to-lovers arcs. you read lines like "you must allow me to tell you how ardently i admire and love you" and you're like is literally anyone else seeing this shit. there's a character named Fitzwilliam. maybe eight other people have read it. no fandom to speak of. your brain is rotting. you're weeping. lamenting. clawing at your petticoats

like there comes a point where you think something is fundamentally wrong with you. and then it turns out it’s just Friday and you haven’t washed your hair in three days and maybe you’re also just a little lonely and the combination of all three of those things is whittling a hole into your chest every time you breathe. but also the sun’s up. and you’ve survived everything so far, so you’ll survive this too, even if it hurts, even if you have to survive it many times.

I love it when people take fic writing seriously. I love when it's not 'Here's this dumb thing I wrote' and instead it's 'Here's this thing I put blood, sweat and tears into. Here's this thing I slaved away at, trying new writing techniques and editing over and over. Here's this dialogue that kept me awake at night. Here's this beautiful turn of phrase I thought up. Here's this thing that I wrote with vulnerability and heart, and I am proud to share it with you.'

These last few days I found it really hard to motivate myself to go on. I tried to keep my feelings to myself because I don't want to bother others about my mental state, and because I hoped that by doing that I could convince myself that things would get better. I also tried to do things that make me happy. Sometimes it works, other times, it gets worse. I've been dealing with these feelings for years, so this is nothing new to me, and perhaps this is the problem. I got too used to this that I turned it into my daily life, and I don't know how to turn my life around for the better. And yes, I did see a therapist, but I can't see them anymore because I can't afford it, and this sucks. But I am used to living in survival mode and my brain accepted that this is the way it is, and what I deserve because I don't try enough. I hate my life, and I hate what it has turned into, and how I feel numb because I sit here paralyzed and I can just do the minimum that is expected of me because I have no energy, no will to push through. I just want to cry and scream. Perhaps I should just try to drown in these feelings instead of pushing them down. And try to do whatever makes me feel myself better. But sometimes even that is not enough, and I just want to abandon myself and stop existing.

If I ask nicely will people reblog this and tell me what their most common breakfast is? Not your favorite necessarily, just what you have for breakfast most frequently? 🙏🏽

Suddenly struck with a need to explain to you how boat pronouns work (I work in the marine industry).

When you're talking about the design of the boat, you say "it".

When the boat is still being built, your say "it".

When the boat is nearing completion, you can say "it" or "she".

When the boat is floating in the water you probably say "she", unless there is still a lot of work to be done (e.g. no engine yet) then you say "it".

When the boat is officially launched and operating, you say "she". If you continue to say "it" at this point you are not incorrect but suspiciously untraditional. You are not playing the game.

If you are referring to a boat you don't really know anything about you may say "it" ("there's a big boat, it's coming this way"). But if you know its name, it's probably "she" ("there's the Waverley, she's on her way to Greenock").

If you are talking about boats in general, you say "it" ("when a boat is hit by a wave it heels over")

If you speak about a boat in complimentary terms, it's "she" ("she's a grand boat"). If you are being disparaging it may be it, but not necessarily ("it's as ugly as sin", "she's a grotty old tub").

If she has a boy's name, she's still she. "Boy James", "King Edward", "Sir David Attenborough"? The pronoun is she.

If it's a dumb barge (no engine), you say it. But if it's a rowing boat (no engine), you say she.

I hope this has cleared things up so that you may not be in danger of misgendering floating objects.
