Saddest scenes of the Shadowhunter Chronicles
Livia,' Julian's voice rose, cracking and tumbling over itself like a wave breaking too far out to sea. 'Livvy, my baby, please, sweet- heart, open your eyes it's Jules, I'm here for you, I'm always here for you, please,please--'
- Lord of Shadows
Amatis gasped, and put her hand to her chest. For a moment—just a moment—she stared at Luke with a look of recognition in her eyes: a look of recognition, even love.
“Amatis,” he whispered.
- City of Heavenly Fire
He took a ragged, impossible breath. “That would be a beautiful lie to believe,” he said, and, incredibly, the ghost of a smile, bitter and sweet, passed over his face. “The fire of Glorious burned away the demon’s blood. All my life it has scorched my veins and cut at my heart like blades, and weighed me down like lead—all my life, and I never knew it. I never knew the difference. I’ve never felt so . . . light,” he said softly, and then he smiled, and closed his eyes, and died.

Surprised Tavvy wasn’t already dead when they got there. They were taking their sweet fucking time listening to Kieran exposition dump (all information that could probably have been shared AFTER they saved their seven year old brother from becoming a human sacrifice by a man he trusts)

overcome w appreciation for the marvel of the smartphone flashlight bc what did people do before that. if u dropped something in the dark was it just gone. did u come back looking in the morning, after it’s been trampled, or did u feel blindly, dangerously, did u used to tread more carefully at night, the little trails between cars and homes where you still want to believe it’s enough distance to change everything, and the unlit roads and parking lots and fields, after the bulb is dead, after the wood is ash, after the moon is used up,…life is just different now but i do love it, i love how the pulse of the miraculous artiface of neverending day and the shattering of the assumption of the impenetrability of night, when the technology that burns against the darkness still, still, succumbs to spooky action at a distance, chance droppings and unexplained disappearances, and everything pauses in the dark, the awareness of how much of night lingers even in the brightly lit room, and there you are in the eye of the hurricane of entropy for this one lost thing, lives slowing down in the sweet sticky when the phone flashlights go on and the voices of hold on, wait, here, looking, got it, yes,like..!!! everyone stops and looks out for each other and looks inside the room, inside the way time is being used, inside the heart, inside the air, inside the night for what was left there and it’s so normal, we don’t notice, i want to marvel at the millions of years without these fingers to poke at the wounds of darkness and the brief decade since of poking, the fact that we don’t carry our phones everywhere for the flashlight at all but it’s this unexpected utility we get to have now, silently and with an extraordinarily absurd elegance addressing the issue of needing to come back in the morning to look for an earring , i want to find it marvelous, i don’t know if i do

DnD - Subclass & Profession Ideas
Subclasses:
Subclass: Way of the Night Monk
Mostly works the same as a Shadow Monk, but with more of a moon association, thus making them less exclusively dark aligned & more so twilight. This would give them access to both light & dark. The context being that the moon is both light & dark. This would also give them access to See Invisibility & eventually Truesight.
---
Subclass: Shinigami Ninja
This subclass works almost the same as someone multiclassed into a Phantom Rogue & a Way of the Night Monk. Also, eventually learns See Invisibility & Truesight. Gives access to magic, but only in so far as Infusion, specifically in the creation of Fūda (runic spell tags) which can be made with little more than paper & some sort of writing utensil, though Ink transfers the magic best here & Brushes are better for it. The Ninja class automatically comes with a Fūda Kit, which is very similar to Calligrapher's Supplies, but replaces the Quill with Calligraphy Brushes.
---
Subclass: Runesmith Artifacer
Infuses weapons, armor, accessories, shields, tools, & other such items with magic via the application of runes & gems. This automatically comes with the Runesmith Profession, as well as making it easier to get into the Lapidary & Metal Artisan Professions. However, not all at once. There is an implication of growth & mastery in this subclass. It also gives access to Arcane Knowledge.
Can also use rituals that involve the use of runes & materials (especially magical materials), but it takes time. Also gives access to certain utility spells such as Detect Magic & the Identify spell. Nothing that helps in fighting though.
---
Professions:
Lapidary = A person who cuts, polishes, or engraves gems. Those with access to magic can go on to become Runesmith Artificers.
Homecook = Someone who is skilled at cooking at home, but not in a professional sense. Has no formal training & is either self-taught or was taught by a friend or family member. Can have gourmet knowledge, but it's a result of experimentation, word-of-mouth, or research rather than formal training.
Metal Artisan = Someone who uses metal to craft things. Something of a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-one in the realm of metalwork. Can have knowledge in the fields of Blacksmithing, Armory, Weaponsmithing, Bladesmithing, & Jewelry-Making. However, can only specialize in & master one of them.
Interrogator = Someone who gets information out of others whether via questioning or torture. Those who simply question often practice psychology & Hellstromism.
Survival Paramedic = Someone who has knowledge in first aid & can use available resources to make things like splints, crutches, bindings, ect. This means that if they don't have access to a Healing Kit for one reason or another, then they can still get advantage on rolls involving Medicine. Gives access to the Medicine & Survival or Nature Skills.

Annabel Lee - Edgar Allan Poe
“ It was many and many a year ago,   In a kingdom by the sea, That a maiden there lived whom you may know   By the name of Annabel Lee; And this maiden she lived with no other thought   Than to love and be loved by me. “
Part of a poem by Edgar Allan Poe in The Dark Artifaces by Cassandra Clare

Last night while driving home in the rain I came up with a 5e campaign idea.
Everyone has to play one of the animal-based PCs. There are many great options among official published works; Leonin, Tabaxi, Aarakokra, Kenku, Loxadon, hippo dudes from Spelljammer etc. But there's also great ones from some other works like a polar bear in The Red Opera, and lots more critters in Humblewood.
All of the characters wake up in golden robes in the middle of a serene meadow at the centre of an ancient forest. They don't know each other and have no memory of how they arrived there. The last thing they remember was a scream and a bright light. Some remember it as cold, some remember it raining, some remember the hot sun on their face.
As they traverse the lands, eventually they come to realize that this is not the world as they remember it. The world they awaken in has a spreading darkness, the shadowfolk.
Most of the early plots involve helping villagers or farmers (also all animals) in some way, finding and returning items etc. But evidence of the shadowfolk begins to appear as they progress in levels. Clear-cut and burned areas, poisoned rivers and lakes, gnarled and rotten overgrowth. Undead armies of skeletons and war machines ravage the land.
After players catch a glimpse of the first shadowfolk, their characters start having memories of the past life resurface...
In their past life they were not sapient, but the Gods Lathander and Mielikki formed a partnership and summoned heroes from another realm to fight the evils in this one (avatar Artifacer of Shar).
The story culminates in a battle against a war machine bigger than any other. The lights shine bright in their faces as they realize, this is the monstrosity that killed them before. As the machine's wheels scream and it lurches toward them, the animal folk must work together to destroy... A car

NOT FAIR
Art by Cassandra Jean (Kit and Ty) So I checked an email from Cassandra Clare, author of The Shadowhunter Chronicles books (The Infernal Devices, the Mortal Instruments, The Dark Artifaces, and many more) and she swore that updates on The Wicked Powers and Secrets of Blackthorn Hall were coming too. And then she shared this. AND I AM CRYING, IT ISN’T FAIR. I didn’t know I needed this.

Buying Time
I listened quietly to the pitter-patter of the rain on the roof of the shipping container. The Zone was washing itself clean after another emission. I looked at the somewhat crumpled cigarette in my hand and put it back into its pack and sighed through my gas mask. I got up and adjusted my backpack, checked my Geiger counter, and consulted my map. Fortunately I didn’t have too far to go, just across this half of the factory complex to a collapsed tunnel. Unfortunately, however, there was still a field of anomalies waiting for me there and in it, an artifact to find. “Only as hard as finding an invisible needle in a million-volt haystack,” I smirked to myself.
The periodic crackling of my Geiger counter turned into a constant static before going silent completely as I approached the entrance to the collapsed tunnel. The electromagnetic field created by the anomalies spelled death or, at the very least, deactivation, for most electronics. This meant that my flashlight would be useless in the tunnel. Not to worry, though, we Stalkers, are a pretty clever folk. I reached into one of many pouches on my belt and extracted a glowstick, shook it up, and cracked it back and forth. Within a few seconds, it began glowing with a greenish-blue light. I reached my hand into a different pouch and pulled out a handful of nuts, bolts, and bullet casings. Tossing one of the metal bits into the gaping maw of the tunnel, I watched its trajectory closely. An instant before it hit the ground, a bright flash lit up the dark tunnel and a loud electric crack echoed against the decrepit concrete walls. “Electra”, I muttered to myself.
I carefully made my way into the tunnel, tossing the bits of metal from my pouch ahead of myself, “feeling” my way through the anomalous field. Some of them made Electras crackle and flash angrily, others disappeared without a trace, occasionally reappearing at different points of their trajectories, demonstrating the effects of temporal anomalies. When I’d gotten thirty or forty feet past the entrance, I tucked the glowstick into my belt, so it still stuck out enough to give me light. Then, I pulled out my artifact detector, an old model, sure, but not yet outdated. I carefully looked over my trusty Echo detector, making sure that its electrical insulation was intact before switching it on. The detector chirped to life and began flashing its light at a slow, steady pace, indicating the presence of an artifact. Very slowly and very, very carefully, I proceeded deeper into the tunnel, tossing bolts, as I went.
Blink, blink, blink
The detector’s light began flashing more rapidly, I was getting closer.
Blink-blink-blink-blink
“Almost there…” I muttered to myself. Then, the detector’s light went from blinking to solid light. With a hissing crackle, a glowing light-blue orb appeared, bobbing in the air for a moment, before falling to the ground. Slowly, I crouched down, took off my backpack and took out a special lead-lined container, placing it on the ground with a quiet clank. Very carefully, I scooped up the Moonlight artifact and placed it in the container, shutting the lid tightly. I breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that the hard part was over.
I gathered up my stuff and made my way to the opening of the tunnel. I looked up at the pinkish-orange sunset sky. “Hey! You there!”, a gas mask-muffled voice called out in English. I looked at the source of the voice and realized that my relief was so naively premature. In front of me, outside the tunnel, stood four people in gas masks, pointing rifles at me. “Great, mercs, the one thing I was missing,” I thought to myself.
“Hand over the artifact, Stalker!” barked the one in charge, “Just put it on the ground and step away.”
I started backing away into the tunnel, desperately trying to formulate an escape plan.
“Freeze, asshole! Do you speak fucking English!?”, the one in charge swore.
“Da, I speak little bit of English”, I replied, trying to buy myself time.
“Put the artifact on the ground! I’m telling you for the last time!”
BLAM! The lead mercenary punctuated his demand with a warning shot over my head. “Time”, he had said. That’s right! Time! The tunnel was full of temporal anomalies.
“Ладно, ладно, смотри кипятком не обоссысь. Here, artifact is in bag, I get it now,” I said, starting to pull my backpack off my back. Then, mustering all the speed I could, I dove sideways into a temporal anomaly. I heard gunshots ring out, then a bright light flashed. For an instant that seemed eternal, I fell through a cold, dark void.
I hit the ground, knocking the air out of my lungs. I sat up, coughed, and took a moment to catch my breath. Unsurprisingly, my glowstick had gone dark, seeing as I just took a dive into the future, anywhere from a few hours to a few months. I lit another glowstick and checked my watch. The watch face read two, with the minute hand between the seven and eight. I looked up at the stars in the night sky above and, despite knowing better, sighed with relief once more. I adjusted my backpack again, tugging the straps over my shoulders. I took out the artifact container and opened it to make sure the Moonlight was still there. It glowed with its signature pale blue light. “Let’s get you to the scientists at Lake Yantar, they have Scout’s paycheck, after all.”

I literally forgot about the Simon and Jordan roommates and fake name plot line, until he showed up and it all flashed before my eyes.
I don’t really remember that much from the second half of the Mortal Instruments to be honest. I may have read the first three book like five times, but I’m pretty sure this is only the second or third time I’ve read the last three.
