Anyways not done with the manga, but my theories are Undertaker is like Ciel’s great grandfather or was in love with one of his relatives or something and that Ciel’s real name is Finnian.

Black Butler had all this amazing build up and was headed in a really exciting direction and then at the peak of that it was like hey what if we split up the characters, cut the chapter length in half, have half of that be recaps of the previous chapters, and almost completely disregard the momentum of the plot. For YEARS.

Is it just me or did like the majority of monthly manga start making the chapters wayyy shorter like five years ago?

The fact that it's canon that Dazai shared pm intel with the ada while they still didn't know about his past is hilarious. Can you imagine them wondering how he gathered all that info and he's just like “I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts” and the guy's just so weird they might as well believe it

I read like thirty chapters of black butler years ago and I remembered it being better than the anime due to the simple fact it had a coherent plot. And Im finally actually reading the full thing and I really did stop like right before it actually got good. Love Soma and Agni, but the arc they were introduced was probably the worst one in the entire manga. But yeah the manga actually is a supernatural mystery with like psychological horror elements and decently structured arcs instead of the bizarre farcical fever dream that was the first season of the anime which I watched in middle school. So glad Pluto isn’t a real character tbh.

Ciel’s dad is insane. His wife got sick and the first thing he did was call up his boytoy from highschool so he could aggressively flirt with him in front of his son for a few hours while he forces him to cook for his wife.

The Undertaker is so funny to me bc when you first see him you think the long nails are probably just supposed to be creepy and unkempt but then when he takes off that stupid fucking tophat and unbuttons the coat you realize he’s actually going for a very specific aesthetic.

Slaying hard as hell under all that. As a personal little treat to himself I guess, because no one else can see it most of the time

My new fun little theory is that Yoichi murdered Narumi and that’s why he just kind of disappeared.

…This started as a joke but then I remembered there actually kind of is evidence for this in the middle of writing this so then I went to make sure and yep.

Narumi’s last appearance is here in chapter 77 where he leaves with Yoichi and Kimizuki and is never seen again.

And then the next time we see kimizuki is here in chapter 80

And then yoichi doesn’t catch up until (ch 81) after Saito shows up and stabs mirai and talks to Shikama and the fight starts.

So what took Yoichi so long hm🤨? That’s Right! He was murdering Narumi! Or keeping lookout, but until we learn whatever actually happened to Narumi, that’s what I choose to believe happened because it’s hilarious.

After the Chess and Horn thing, I now FULLY expect Narumi to have died offscreen.

It’s kind of funny how it seemed like Saito had this huge mysterious goal and then it turned out he literally just has daddy issues, and then for a while it seems like Ferid just had daddy issues but it turns out he actually has this insane grand scheme and the saito revenge stuff is probably just a side project.

How I imagine this conversation went down

The writing in ONS isn’t actually that bad in my opinion, it’s just that all of the characters are extremely emotionally unstable, so everyone thinks their actions don’t make sense but they do when you think about it through that lens.
