so lovely, buying a book at the second-hand store and finding someone's annotations between the pages.

As part of a partnership with Pottermore Publishing and Audible, the two will release seven new English language audiobooks scheduled for late 2025. The audiobooks will feature a full range of character voices, with the Audible CEO citing more than 100 actors, Dolby Atmos sound design and new scoring.  Each book will be released sequentially and globally.  [...] “Together with Pottermore Publishing, best-in-class producers, and over one hundred actors, we will introduce a groundbreaking new soundscape for the Wizarding World, as well as performances that will inspire our listeners’ imaginations and redefine these quintessential characters for a new generation,” said Bob Carrigan, CEO of Audible. “We are delighted to be collaborating with Audible on what will be a ground-breaking audio edition of the beloved Harry Potter stories. J.K. Rowling’s storytelling lends itself perfectly to the application of new audiobook technologies, and we’re certain this sophisticated, immersive audio experience will not only add a new listening dimension for existing fans, but will introduce a whole new generation of listeners to the wizarding world,” said Neil Blair, chairman of Pottermore Publishing.

I need to buy a book. But i need to buy a book with a beautiful cover. But i need money to buy a book with a beautiful cover. But i need a job to get money to buy a book with a beautiful cover. But a job is a lot of work to buy a book with a beautiful cover. So I should rob a bank to buy a book with a beautiful cover. But robbing a bank is more work then getting a job to buy a book with a beautiful cover. So instead i should-

I *loved* Prairie Fires. Absolutely wild learning all that stuff both about history and about Laura Ingalls Wilder's place in it (and how she, uh, fudged. a bit).
I'm really enjoying it! I never read the Little House on the Prairie books as a kid; I tried one and pretty immediately encountered the Ingalls saying some heinous shit about Natives, which skeezed me out bad enough that I put it down and never picked it back up. this is maybe a little tangential, but my school had a not insignificant population of Native kids and my state had stipulations requiring all students received at least a little education about our local Native nations every year and even as a kid with very little understanding of racism I thought it was Wild that we just had books like that sitting around in the library without anyone addressing it.
regardless, whether or not you read the books I think it's very hard not to be Aware of Laura Ingalls Wilder as a symbol of westward expansion and colonization, and it's really interesting to see her family's "adventures" placed in a larger national and international historical context. Fraser includes the most interesting details about so many things that I wouldn't even think to expect answers to - for instant, Ingalls Wilder's husband likely deriving his name from Orientalist romances that were popular in newspapers at the time? it's so cool, I love history.

[ID: A digital drawing of Ishmael sitting on the beach and writing/drawing in a notebook. The top left of the image has handwritten text that reads “Moby Dick: or, the Webcomic // 4 years.” More detailed ID in alt text.]
It’s Moby Dick: or, the Webcomic’s 4th birthday today! So so delighted and excited to have made it this far, and for everything still to come.
Just about a week ago, (about when I thought I would), I finally finished the thumbnails for ch3! It’s gonna be a long one, but I’m so so excited for it. Can’t wait for y’all to meet one of my favorite characters. Can’t wait for the juicy drama. Can’t wait for y’all to see an actual proper whale hunt! And more shenanigans, nautical nonsense, queer delight, and other such miscellaneous happenings.
We’re still shooting for / on track for an initial start date of sometime this summer, and I will absolutely update with a more specific start date as soon as I have a better idea of that, but yeah! Chapter 3 pages are properly underway!
extremely excited for chapter 3, and the rest of this story. thanks so much to everyone for reading 💖💖🐋🐋
