The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon
The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon was recommended by a viewer and an audio book from the library. It was my first book from the author and is historical fiction. Set in post-Revolutionary Maine and based on the real-life journals of the fictionalized heroine, the book tells the story of a mid-wife, Martha Ballard, and her search for a killer. Along the way, she encounters the greed of others, the…

one of the best fics i've ever read, one that had me addicted to my phone and crying, wasn't even prose. it was a huge, casual, bullet-pointed outline with every detail of an au that the author never got around to writing in full. and it was amazing.
let this be a message to all you who want to write but can't do it "normally": write it! someone out there will eat it up. whether that be poetry, tiny drabbles, or bullet pointed list: your work is always worth it. your art (yes, art!) will alway deserve to have its moment in the spotlight. why? because you made it. even if it wasn't done in a traditional matter, it came from your brain and your creativity and that is amazing.

Imagine a world where #EdwardVIII did the right thing and married a suitable woman. His heir is murdered, and someone in the family is responsible. #AMurderatBalmoral #BookReview #HouseofWindsor #AlternativeFiction #ChrisMcGeorge #GPPutnamandSons
A delightful locked-room mystery in which the king has been poisoned, each member of the royal family has motive and opportunity, and the king’s beloved chef must figure out whodunit and why. The royal family has gathered at their Scottish retreat, Balmoral Castle, for a traditional Christmas–and King Eric has given nearly all of the staff the day off. As a blizzard gathers outside and a…

DASH Literary Journal #16 - California State University (Fullerton - Futurist Fiction)
I’ve currently got a work of futurist fiction (spec-fic with a steampunk aesthetic tossed in for good measure), appearing in the current edition of DASH Literary Journal. No. #16, 2023. This is the official literary magazine of California State University. Out of Fullerton’s Comparative English Studies Department for Language and Linguistics. I actually studied linguistics back in the 1990s but…

soap who runs a podcast wherein he’ll explain and discuss complex science processes in a way that doesn’t make learners feel dumb or left out, but also is engaging for more advanced and knowledgeable listeners who are familiar with concepts.
he’ll often have guests, usually fellow science people who maybe have more expertise than him on certain topics, but sometimes he’ll just bring in others to have a better perspective on questions and details someone less science-y might want to know.
one day, a guest has to pull out last minute, so soap asks his boyfriend ghost if he’d like to try out an episode—if he doesn’t like it, soap can just re-record and post something else no problem. but ghost agrees—by osmosis of just being around soap for so long he’s pretty knowledgeable in the realm of science himself, and, really, it’d be a wasted opportunity to hear his boyfriend rant about something he loves for an hour.
everything goes well—episode goes up, and… people are already demanding ghost to return. his deep, rough voice combined with being relatively evenly matched with soap in terms of that day’s concept made for a great listen—though, perhaps the fact that they have great chemistry as a cause of their relationship also plays a part in the episode’s positive reception.
so ghost becomes a semi-regular. he’d hate to impede on soap’s thing entirely, but he doesn’t mind returning every once in a while whenever soap plans on talking about something ghost is familiar enough with. there just seems to be an extra ounce of passion from soap whenever it’s ghost as a guest, though no one’s aware it’s because they’re dating.

showing off the commission i got from @ruporas for my fic, In the Next Life!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm still so incredibly excited about this. it's been some months since the story event that caused these scars, but i wanted SO BADLY to be able to see what they'd actually Look like... & Here They Are.
ruporas rendered the scars So Well, i just cant stop Looking at them... there's a Fresh & a Healed version, which ruporas was kind enough to give me without additional charge (Thank U Again😭😭) so i get to see what it looks like at different stages.
Lichtenberg Figures. in terms of actual scarring, lightning strikes that people survive don't tend to leave permanent scars, but the lichtenberg figures that they (usually temporarily) leave behind are just So Cool... Now, what happens when you get someone who can survive an amount of electricity/lightning that would be Frankly Lethal to any normal human person?

Imagine a world where portal technology is common, but portals are physically unable to get larger then around the size of a tablet. You can look through them, and pass things through them, but its impossible to walk through a portal just due to the size.
Mabye you have a portal connecting your room to a freind that lives far away. And you can look at eachother when you want to. And pass eachother small gifts. And sometimes you'll put the portal up to eachother's windows to see eachother's views, and you'll see her view of the desert, and she'll see your view of the city. But it always feels so far away even when you can touch eachother.
And portals will be useful in society too. Every office has one. You can pretty easily pass things back and fourth. People used to be encouraged to have portals to their house is their place of work, but it's banned in most workplaces now for security reasons, though it's less likely someone is going to try to shoot their boss through a portal then it is companies don't want employees being that close to their families during work.
It just becomes normal. And you feel less and less alone. And you feel close to places you've never been. There are countries you'll never be able to go to, that you've seen with your own eyes, and reached your hand into. You've touched the soil of so many places.
Yet still you feel far apart. Even if you can hold hands with someone through a portal, you can still never hug them. There's a separation that only being somewhere can solve.
