Imagine Lieutenant Ghost had to work together with Captain MacTavish⊠oh noâŠ. I donât think they would like each other (but they would kiss aggressively after arguing)
On the other hand '22Soap and '09Ghost would be besties heheheh

AU with art handler/curator soap and ghost, (secretly) an immortal with a suspiciously endless stream of antique art to donate just so that he can have the chance to speak with soap more.
ghost is torn for two reasons: one, because he actually likes a lot of the art; and two, he doesnât want to risk getting too close, to inevitably get his heart broken when soap grows old and he doesnât. but ghostâs stupid feelings, after being seemingly dormant for so long, have him constantly seeking out soapâs company anywayâeven if itâs only in the form of business deals.
soap, on the other side of this, is wondering how rich ghost must be to own all of these antique pieces. he wonders how much heâs travelled, how much he knows to have curated such things. but ultimately, he, too, wonders if their friendlier-than-business-partners relationship could blossom into something moreâeven if he suspects that thereâs more to ghost than meets the eye.

I like the trope of can dance vs canât dance.
Soap who grew up going to church dances and private catholic school dances and balls, so he knows how to dance pretty much any kind of dance.
Ghost hadnât ever been to even a school dance. He preferred wandering around doing dumb shit like fighting or chasing bugs or whatever it is teenage boys do. He doesnât know how to dance, never bothered to learn, he doesnât even know how to grind to music at a club.
John doesnât care at first, really. Simon doesnât mind him dancing with strangers as long as he wanders off when it gets too serious. Simon encourages it, even, because he knows how much John loves to dance.
Heâs seen Simon try to dance. Simonâs awkward and embarrassed and stiff and after a few moments he runs away. The most he does is settle his hands on Johnâs hips and let John dance on him rather than join in.
And, John loves him, so it doesnât matter.
And John loves it when heâs in the kitchen and dancing while he cooks or washes dishes, and Simon is watching him with that stupidly soft expression. âCome dance with me.â
âI cant dance,â Simon says softly. He leans against the counter, teacup gently held close to his chest. John just continues swaying, holding his arms out and wiggling his fingers. âThereâs no music either.â
John does a spin and gathers Simonâs tea, setting it gently on the counter. Simon chuckles quietly. John pulls him away from the counter, settling Simonâs hands on his hips and wrapping arms around his neck to pull him closer. âItâs just swaying.â
Simon shakes his head a little, looking down at their feet and trying to keep the pace up. Itâs adorable how Simon struggles to keep up the slow circling motion, the way his eyebrows scrunch together when he misses a step. John bites his lip to hide a giggle when Simon nearly trips. âHoney, itâs swaying.â
âItâs not my fault i have two left feet and horrible balance.â John gently grabs the hair at the back of Simonâs neck. âFuckinâ dumb.â
John hums the beat of a song he doesnât remember the words to. âStop over thinkinâ.â John moves a hand to his face and cups his cheek. âLook at me.â
Simon looks up from their feet. âI donât wanna step on you.â
âYou wont. And if you do itâs okay.â
Simon frowns. âI cant dance.â
âJust sway to the beat.â John hums a little louder, dramatically swaying with Simon. Simonâs frown flips into the upside-down smile he has when heâs mildly embarrassed or insecure about a particular thing.
âWeâre gonna fall.â
âNo we wont.â
John isnât sure how long he hums the song, or how many times they almost fall from Simon tripping over his own feet, but itâs fine. The kitchen smells like lasagna in the oven, and Simon has started humming too.
Theyâll have to take a dancing class for their wedding. John doesnât mind.

server soap who consistently racks up the biggest tips during his shifts, always knowing how to charm, flirt, say the right things. itâs even pretty common for him to receive at least one phone number every time heâs working, though he always discreetly tosses those once heâs out of sight.
not because heâs necessarily opposed to datingâitâs just that heâs got his eyes on a certain bartender.
ghost is gruff, quiet, awkward, and stupidly oblivious to soapâs advances. soap thinks heâs perfect. so he doesnât really care if his flirting doesnât get him anywhere, because at least ghost talks to him unlike with most of their other coworkers.
ok, soap cares a little bit. because god knows how much he wants to kiss ghost silly, how much he wants to hold him and sing praises and watch that endearing blush spread across ghostâs face. but even stillâhe could wait. he would wait, until ghost was comfortable enough for anything to come about.
but for the time being, soap will just pretend the eyes he often feels on his back mean anything of significance, and arenât just ghost glaring at him for snagging drinks.

one of soapâs greatest accidental discoveries is the dark shade of red that colours ghostâs face when he blushes.
he doesnât even particularly remember what he had said to elicit the reactionâonly recalls the way the endearingly deep tint had even creeped past the edges of ghostâs balaclava before the lieutenant ducked his head and changed the topic.
as great as the initial discovery is, however, soap is left with questions. he wonders how far the blush goes. he wonders the exact pattern it stains ghostâs pale skin, wonders how warm ghostâs face grows beneath its prickle.
but with the discovery now made, it becomes his mission to see it as often as possibleâand hopefully one day, make ghost blush with his face uncovered, just so that soap could map the colour along with freckles and beauty marks and commit every aspect of ghostâsimonâto memory.

haha wow guysâŠ. canât believe youâre making me write a part two of thisâŠâŠ haha ok if you insistâŠ.
-
the sting of soapâs disappointment following the most recent assassination attempt is shortly resolved when only a week later, as he reads in the candlelight, he feels the cool press of a blade gentle against his throat.
heâs smiling before he can stop himself. there could only be one person silent enough to manage such a trick.
âback so soon?â he asks the shadow. he closes his book, careful to keep still. the blade wasnât meant to hurt unless he moved.
a low hum. âthought i might catch you off guard the second time.â
âsorry to disappoint.â soap feels the pressure disappear, and slumps back in his seat. he lolls his head back to peer up at the assassin, who looms over him, staring with that same dark, piercing gaze.
âdonât worry,â the assassin consoles. âyou could never disappoint, your majesty.â
soap laughs. âisnât it too early to be making assumptions like that? weâve hardly met.â
a gloved hand, still partially curves around the hilt of a blade, draws a line across soapâs jaw. a gentle caress, met by the bitter kiss of cold steel as his assassin shifts his hold.
âthatâs all i need,â the assassin teases. âyouâre an easy read.â
soap scoffs, letting his head fall back forward. the assassin makes his steps audible as he backs away.
âwell, at least give me a name before you disappear again,â he pleads. âso i know whose title might leave my lips when you inevitably succeed.â
a pensive silence, consideration that soap should not be allowing such a man.
âghost,â he finally offers.
âghost,â soap echoes, almost wistfully. he isnât surprised, when he turns in his chair and sees that ghost is gone yet again.
soap sighs, though his disappointment this time is brief. a second visit is no coincidenceâsomething tells him ghost would most certainly return.
and the prince already finds himself anticipating that very moment.

It really is a shame that Ghost so rarely takes his mask off outside, because heâs made to be seen in the sun, Soap thinks. Privately, quietly.
Itâs not his fault Simon has cheekbones like he was sculpted by a loving god. A nose with a broken bump that catches the light just so. Eyelashes that fan over his cheeks as he squints a little from the brightness.
That oneâs a particular shame, because his eyes can look red midday, and amber right at dusk; but when he squints he gets this little furrow in his brow. Thatâs compensation enough for hiding those eyes, since Soap isnât normally deprived of them.
Sun makes him look healthier, puts some color in his pale cheeks. Soap would bet money that heâd freckle given the time. Heâs comforted some by the soft moles speckled on his face, but thatâs another kind of torment.
Anytime he sees a hint of themâor really, one particular mark right at the corner of Ghostâs jawâhe wants to reach out and graze them. Feel the blood in his skin, under his own two palms.
Soap resigns himself to looking, and occasionally sketching. It makes him itch for color. He wants to capture it Ghost, in his golden, healthy, human glory.
Maybe itâs better though, to stay in grayscale. âMakes the real sight that much more precious.

soapghost circus au
ghostâs an extreme motorcycle stunt performer - globe of death, riding on his back wheel along tightropes, that sort of thing
soapâs a fire breather/dancer. heâs a roaming performer; he just finds empty spaces or bored people and starts twirling
he pretends not to notice the way he always wanders towards a certain tent every night to watch a certain masked daredevil defy gravity. he thinks he's slick and that ghost won't notice him in the crowd, completely forgetting that he's carrying something that happens to be on fire
ghost couldn't miss him if he tried
one day off, soap's trialing fire whips; he loves the loud crack and the way the flame licks through the air and maybe he's a little too impatient to practice with non flaming whips first, even though he's never used one before
he's covered in soot and fine welts where the tip of the whip keeps flicking back up at him, cutting through his shirt and stinging his skin but he doesn't let that stop him. it starts to stick to him, damp with sweat and blood and he's quick to strip it off; throwing it to the side to keep practicing
when soap finally gets a few good cracks in a row and breaks to celebrate, he almost jumps out of his skin when he sees the masked rider leaning against a trailer watching him
of all the times he's wanted ghost to talk to him, this is not one of them
he wanted to impress him, dance for him with his flaming batons and be mesmerised by his fluidity and skill
not catch him filthy and struggling with something as basic as a whip
he's ready for ghost to ream him out for not having control over the whip - he's known throughout the circuit for expecting utter perfection in his routines - but when ghost finally does speak, it's only to ask if he's done for the day
soap falters for a moment. he wanted to get some consistency with the whip before he stopped, but he's starting to feel the hours of practice; muscles aching and skin blistered with minor burns
he says he is and ghost pushes off the trailer, nodding his head to make soap follow. he brings him back to his trailer and tells him to clean up then takes out his personal med kit to treat the grazes on soap's skin
soap's shocked; for all that he loves to watch ghost perform, they've never really talked before
part of why he joined the circus was so he wouldn't be a burden on anyone, the oldest in a family with too many mouths to feed and not even time to nurture, and here he is taking up ghost's valuable practice time be he wasn't good enough to handle his own discipline. he tries to brush him off, downplaying the burns and tries to leave before half them can be treated but ghost just glares and orders him to sit back down
ghost does expect perfection from himself but it isnât out of any malice or ego; it's bc he knows if he isn't perfect, he could very easily die. heâs picked a dangerous profession and he gives it the respect it deserves. there isn't any shame in being a novice or failing at something; he thinks there's a lot of beauty in having the courage to get back up again and again
so every day he watches soap practice and bullies him into his trailer to put him back together bc he knows he won't do it by himself
and every night soap wanders over to ghost's section of the fair grounds, in awe of his skill and wishing he could be worthy of the care he gives him

i canât find that reverse trope list but no one being convinced that ghost and soap are dating
the fact is just⊠beyond them. they flirt all the time, theyâre always in close proximity, honestly theyâve possibly even kissed in public despite rules in fraternizationâyet no one believes theyâre dating. not even price or gaz.
apparently they seem âincompatibleââwhatever thatâs supposed to mean.
soap jokes that the ghost must be incapable as such a thing as romantic relationships. ghost jokes that they must be too straight.
but whatever. if it helps them to stay out of trouble in the long run, then what the hell. even if itâll take a lot of convincing that theyâve been dating by the time a wedding inevitably rolls around.
