I love how the broken, gilded cage Robin sits in appears to resemble a waterphone (and a phonograph within, by the look of it?). You may have heard its beautiful haunting voice in horror films and music in general. That the splash art attributes it to her, a Path of Harmony character, The Robin of Penacony, renowned singer across the stars, is so cool.

Got a comment on my cover of Do You Mind? this morning that said it was a banger, which is always nice considering that’s one of my covers that I’m constantly on the fence about where I really like it or not lol. Shoutout to that comment, you made my morning tbh

musicproducer!connie…
kio’s notes - some sfw headcanons inspired by this connie fic i read on wp a while back. it was my first connie fic and the start of this connie brain rot. i wish it was still up 🤧 shit was soooo good!
also inspired by @chrollohearttags rockstar!eren series and @privateparty3 rapper!connie
also check this
⊱ ──────── {.⋅ ✺ ⋅.}──────── ⊰
now let me say this,
connie mfn springer had a golden ear!
he could make a song out of anything, truth be told. his abuela used to tell him he was blessed with “god’s gift.” yeah, he had a voice as soothing and smooth as velvet. but put it over a track with a piano medley and some soft beats, oh baby! the man had a voice that made the greek muses swoon.
musicproducer!connie had a couple of his own songs out on streaming platforms. he mostly used spotify and apple music for his official music, and soundcloud for official music or for quick ideas he wanted his followers to hear. he loved singing, but not as much as he loved to create. producing was where connie truly felt he belonged. he couldn’t count the number of times he’s fallen asleep at his desk, drooling on his piano keys because he pulled an all nighter to finish a song because he got a sound stuck in his head and just needed to bring it to life.
(honorable mentions to the times he hears songs not by him and thinks “i can make this better” and just completely changed the entire vibe of the song)
but musicproducer!connie loved sounds. everything and anything had potential to be a song. whether it be the crunching of the fall leaves under his boot, or the bounce of the basketball he dribbled in his backyard court, or even the sound of his car’s indicator—connie found music in any sound.
if you asked musicproducer!connie what he couldn’t live without, he would describe to you in detail his music setup. his laptop, the hard drive with all his songs, his drum pad, his bass guitar, his red beats headphones, the software he uses…he would go on forever!
musicproducer!connie would be the genius behind his friends’ music as well. they would come to him either with a chopped up idea of what they wanted or sometimes come to him empty handed with nothing but a hope. either way, connie would be sitting in his home studio with his friends, working on a song. he loved helping them, so he looked at it as great bonding time too.
musicproducer!connie was also quite big on social media. he had a following of 700k on instagram and over a million listeners across his streaming services. he also had a twitch, where he would post at least twice a week, one of those times being him making instrumentals from scratch with his viewers watching and helping. he loved to interact with his followers. knowing there were people out there who connected with his music on a deep level made him so happy. hell, the first single he dropped he was kicking his feet at all the supportive feedback he was getting.
musicproducer!connie even did shows here and there! they would be house shows, with maybe 1000 people at least. he would sing some of his hits, but would mainly be the dj, working the booth for his friends. he always and only performed with his friends.
honestly, music was everything to connie and then some. it was his passion. it was what made him who he is. but most of all, it was something he always did with you.
yessir! musicproducer!connie would be telling a lie if he said he became the artist he is today on his own. if it weren’t for you, he probably would’ve quit a long time ago, when his sophomore project didn’t receive as much hype/attention as his debut.
you were always his biggest fan, though. you would use your social media following to promote his work, much to connie’s joy. what he loved more than sharing his music was you sharing it, because in turn you would be showcasing the relationship between you and connie to your hundreds of thousands of followers.
like those times he would be sitting on the floor of his living room, creating a song on his laptop. you would be behind him, sitting between the couch and him with the side of your face pressed against his back. he would be in his own world with his headphones on, you would be busy on your phone, and yet connie felt it was one of the best ways to spend time with you.
your glossy lips would be in a faint pout as you recorded yourself, stretching your arm up and out to show connie’s entire back, this tan freckled skin showcasing the tense of his muscles whenever he would reach for his pen to scribble away notes in his notebook.
you would simply post the video to your snapchat, captioning it “1/2 of us is in their creative bag rn”. you would follow up that snap with another short video, this time it being you leaving small kisses along the expanse of connie’s back. because of your gloss the lip prints were visible and you would smile mischievously.
musicproducer!connie loved you. he loved to have you near him. so when he would go on these red carpet events with his friends, you would be at his side, the two of you dressed beautifully as you smiled for the cameras. connie would make it his mission to have you flustered the whole night, giving you soft neck kisses and whispering both sweet and naughty things in your ear while he held you close. like,
“you look so beautiful tonight, i’m so lucky to have you, mi cielita.”
“i can’t wait to take this off of you, baby.. give you the proper attention you deserve.”
“been missing my lil’ songbird so much.” he would just miss the shell of your ear with his teeth, looking down at you with his eyes droopy with lust. “have you missed me, baby?”
“of course, baby. but the show ain’t even start yet.” you said with a squeal, already feeling the blood rush straight to your cheeks. there was no doubt the cameras caught that. if they somehow didn’t, then they sure must’ve captured the lovestruck look connie gave you whenever his eyes would fall on you.
“i can’t help it, mami. just love having you.” he would mumble, giving you the softest of pecks as to not mess up your lipstick.
musicproducer!connie was in deep when it came to you. and if it wasn’t obvious by the way he showered you with physical affection, then it must be from the way he had you as his producer tag, the five second audio starting with you giggling, then in your best ‘smooth r&b’ voice, saying “issa connie springer production.” connie remembers the first project he used that on—a joint lover’s ep onyankopon wanted him on. til this day, how many years later, every time a song from the ep comes on, your cheeks get hot and body all tingly at the flustered feeling that overwhelms you. it was your first time ever being on a record
musicproducer!connie used you for a lot of his songs, it was mainly on the background vocals of different projects he would do. but he also used you as inspiration. he moonlighted as a songwriter, mainly helping other artists with filler lyrics or strengthening what they already have. it would be rare connie was asked to write a song start to finish, but whenever he did, he found he was thinking back to your relationship. both good and bad times, just thinking of you filled him with enough inspiration to create several masterpieces.
yeah, musicproducer!connie loves you. he has what seems to be an endless amount of ways to express his love to you. but if all else fails, he knows his music will do it’s job every. damn. time.

Could you make headcanons for Cheslock in modern times, please? Like, what he usually does after school (or uni), how will he flirt with the person he likes or something like that. I really want to see what he's like in modern times. Thank you 💖🥹
of course, modern AU is always fun! <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Definitely much more openly punk in the modern era because he doesn’t have to hold himself back. (Not that he isn’t nonconformist in the Victorian era, but.) He’s got several more piercings, a couple more tattoos (in addition to the music note on his ankle, he also has one on his wrist which reads, I can. I will. end of story. and a skull with roses on the opposite forearm), and wears more revealing clothing. It’s all tank tops, jeans, and shorts and he isn’t the least bit ashamed about it. His hairstyle hasn’t much changed, though!
He tends to just hang out in the dorms after he’s done with classes or in between classes. His home is about an hour away from uni, so he’s not usually up for the drive unless it’s a holiday or he really wants to see his mum and sister. Not to mention, his father’s an abusive arse, so there’s no way Cheslock is going to risk that daddy dearest is going to be home when he visits unless he has to. He rooms with other creative types, like upperclassman Gregory Violet, so his flatmates don’t really mind him practicing the violin or other instruments in the dorm.
More than once he’s just decided that, fuck it, he’s learning the material fine in one class that happens to be fairly early in the morning. He’s got notes. He gets all his assignments done, and he can get notes from one of his classmates who’s a morning person if he needs to. And then that day he sleeps till noon and regrets nothing… especially if he happens to have a S/O who slept over so he gets cuddles and possibly morning sex as long as his flatmates aren’t home.
He loves flirting with people, even if he’s not expecting anything serious — if it turns that way, great, but sometimes it’s just fun to flirt without any strings. How he does it varies on what kind of person he’s trying to flirt with, honestly. A fellow music enthusiast will be treated to him playing an upbeat, fun, romantic pop song from his phone in the hopes that they can talk about it. Someone shy will get him making a joke about something nearby, crossing his fingers that he’ll get a laugh out of them. He does tend to be quite cheeky and playful with the way he flirts, regardless. His end goal is always to make someone smile or laugh, so that they associate him with a positive feeling.
… Secretly, or not-so-secretly if he knows someone well, nerds out over video game soundtracks. To prove that fact, he wrote one of his papers on the music of Undertale, complete with him performing a medley of songs on his violin for one of his graded performances. And brought several people who were also familiar with the game to tears during the end where the leitmotifs from “SAVE the World” and “His Theme” came in. Video games are his second passion, so applying his foremost passion of music to them is a winning combination. He can’t just be normal about a good video game soundtrack… even if his friends literally beg him to SHUT UP about it already!!
Not as much of a drinker as one would think. He’s not a teetotaler, he definitely does drink, but throughout his entire university experience, he got drunk maybe three or four times. Something about the feeling of being hammered just doesn’t appeal to him, even though he likes to drink and is fine being a little tipsy. Mainly it’s probably that he doesn’t enjoy the feeling that he’s not in control of himself, so he tries to avoid getting outright drunk. Of course, when he does get drunk… well. Gregory has a video on his phone of an intoxicated Cheslock loudly and publicly singing a stupid love song in the common room, sloppily kissing his S/O and declaring that he “fuckin’ loves ‘em”. And another video of him passed out snoring in his S/O’s lap. Yeah, he’s never living that down.

Ranking (Most) Monster Hunter World/Iceborne Battle Themes
This tier list will be mainly based on how much I personally enjoy it, so themes' accuracies to the monsters' personalities n such take less of a priority over simply sounding pleasing to the ears (but other factors may additionally pop up depending on the track). Monster Hunter's music sounds as unique as it does because each song tends to have one or two instruments that steal the spotlight for each theme, so in my commentary under the cut, I'll be giving these instruments a small highlight as well! Here's the full tier list! For the large monster area themes, I choose a representative monster for each: Rathalos for Ancient Forest, Diablos for Wildspire Waste, Legiana for Coral Highlands, Odogaron for Rotten Vale, Lavasioth for Elder's Recess, Barioth for Hoarfrost Reach, and Pink Rathian for Guiding Lands.
Tumblr media
Commentary goes in order of the tier list from top to bottom n left to right. There's a lot.
(@junko-jinko since you were interested heh)
Red Glare In The Darkness (Nargacuga) - Nargacuga’s theme takes the top spot! The instrumentation is so unique and upbeat, it’s a blast every time I listen to it. The bass guitar section slays, and the chorus is mind-blowingly perfect. It could bring tears to my eyes. Instrument highlight: bass guitar and piano
Brutish Indigo (Brachydios) - Piledriving its way into second place is Brachydios’ theme! This song grew on me exponentially recently thanks to really listening in and appreciating the mallet instruments that pop up in the intro and bridge. Whatever that mallet instrument is, it fuckin’ ROCKS! This whole track carries the ‘harumph’ of a big monster ready to have the most intense boxing match of its life. Instrument highlight: mallet percussion
Spark Of Blue (Zinogre) - ROCK N ROLL TAKES THIRD PLACE BABY! That electric guitar is a godsend, I just wish it was emphasized more! This theme is insanely catchy, too. A hype battle theme through and through. Instrument highlight: electric guitar
Safi’jiiva (Not released on Spotify) - Holy fuck this medley takes me to a higher plane of existence. Honestly you could just ignore everything else and focus on the target theme (LIKE JEEBUS CHRISTMAS THAT BASS HAUNTS ME) and that’s enough to warrant its spot among the greats. But I won’t just focus on that cause this whole theme is awesome! Exceptionally fitting for an elder dragon that could evaporate you with a tiny droplet of its fire. Menacing, but turns around into a heroic masterpiece. Instrument highlight: choir and bass
Congregation Of The Fearless - The composer really took all of the themes of the other areas and combined them into one flawlessly. My jaw is on the floor as we speak. Coral Highlands’ instrumentation really shines the best here, harnessing the handpan/steel tongue drum to its fullest potential. And I hear that electric guitar and bass guitar in there! Such slick implementation! Instrument highlight: handpan/steel tongue drum and bass guitar
Keeper Of Hades (Vaal Hazak) - The back-and-forth between piano and harpsichord throughout this theme is so god damn good AUGH. Perfect mix of regality and lethality. Instrument highlight: harpsichord and piano
The Brilliance That Rules The Everstream (Kulve Taroth)  - I’ve always adored Kulve’s medley. Each phase shimmers like gold. The organ in the second phase is always an attention-getter and the choir in the third phase is godly. It’s just solid (gold heh) all around, from beginning to end. Also I swear there’s a moment in the third phase’s verse that has a motif used in How To Train Your Dragon, which adds to the nostalgia for me. Instrument highlight: choir and organ
Ancient Leshen (not released on Spotify) - A theme I haven’t paid much attention to until now (but I have beaten this mofo), and once again I am floored by how excellent this sounds. Every single instrument gets its time to shine and sounds absolutely lovely! Instrument highlight: vocals and flute
Splendiferous Silver Sovereign (Velkhana) - The piano is the star of the show and it owns it! I love the staccato rhythm of the drums and brass crescendoing into the piano solos. Fit for the elder dragon of ice! Instrument highlight: piano
Morning Star Of The Dark Tide (Namielle) - An underrated theme for an underrated elder dragon! While it's on the slower side, it maintains a very entertaining rhythm with interesting use of marimba and piano. I’ll ride these waves any day. Instrument highlight: marimba and piano
Alatreon (not released on Spotify) - I haven’t really given Alatreon’s theme much of a listen before since I have admittedly never beat him. BUT now that I am listening to the full thing I can say with certainty this hits hard. This track really just says ‘oh you’re SO fucked’ and I love it. Instrument highlight: percussion and guitar
From The Rumblings Come A Song/A Single Bloom In An Eternity (Shara Ishvalda) - The perfect example of how to make battle music terrifying as fuck. The first phase is nothing to scoff at, but the second is when all hell breaks loose. THE GOD DAMN LAUGHING SNUCK IN AT ONE MOMENT??? HELLO??? Can’t believe this track can manage to be both creepy and really fun to listen to at the same time. Instrument highlight: mallet percussion and what sounds like a pungi flute??? Not quite but its very similar
The Invading Tyrant (Bazelguese) - Bazelguese’s theme is the One-Winged Angel of Monster Hunter. It’s incredibly iconic and instantly fills you with fear in and outside of the game. And once the intro subsides, it builds up to a banger chorus that shines with heroism. Instrument highlight: assorted strings
Murmurs From The Land Forbidden - One of the best area themes in the game. The chorus kicks major ass and that flute can fuckin’ get it. Instrument highlight: flute and whatever that introduction instrument is… synths???
Empress Of The Flame (Lunastra) - Teo’s wife improves his theme in every aspect. Not only harp, but also piano and harpsichord?! What a treat to the ears! Instrument highlight: harp and harpsichord
Ruler Of The Flame (Teostra) - Man I feel bad for sleepin’ on this theme. Those drums are absolutely fantastic and the whole song grooves really well. Instrument highlight: drums
The Howling Of The Lone Wolf (Yian Garuga) - This theme feels like orderly chaos in a way. It’s bombastic, but doesn’t go into overdrive. Those bongos are groovy, and it definitely snatched up some of Brachydios’ amazing mallet percussion. Instrument highlight: bongos
Roars Across The Hinterlands - That introduction woodwind hits real hard. Doesn’t waste its time to get right into the action. It’s a really fun take on a theme for a snowy area. Instrument highlight: percussion
World’s End (Arch-Tempered Nergigante) - Spiky boy 2 electric boogaloo! This version is one I feel like I can listen to more often and really enjoy. Nothing too special, but that chorus sure can be a banger. Instrument highlight: drums
Dancer In the Coral Highlands - Instantly hooked with the handpan and/or steel tongue drum introduction. A pleasant mix of hard-hitting ferocity with moments of elegance slipped in-between. Instrument highlight: handpan and/or steel tongue drum
Guiding Lamp To The Otherworld/How Life Springs Anew (Xeno’jiiva) - First phase takes its sweet time to establish the otherworldly nature of Xeno, but the second phase is where it’s really at. The headstrong march of the brass and drums leads the charge until the chorus unleashes a pretty string symphony. Not something I’d replay often, but gosh darn it I’ll revel in the beauty while I can. Instrument highlight: assorted strings
Even Elder Dragons Tremble (Nergigante) - The chaos radiates off this spikey boy in waves and the music reflects that perfectly. A rambunctious romp with an angry overgrown hedgehog accompanied by this song makes it all the more entertaining. But it’s not really a song I’d listen to on loop or come back to often. Instrument highlight: assorted brass
The Shadow Upon The Tempest (Kushala Daora) - I’m surprised at how much I find this song to be decently enjoyable when I find Kushala hunts in World to be really annoying. Really does sound like what someone would hear in the middle of a tornado and being windblown to hell and back. Instrument highlight: orchestral chimes
Savage Of The Ancient Forest - Standard fare, let's ya know what you're in for and it serves its purpose well. Instrument highlight: trumpet
Rulers Of The Wildspire - On the milder side, has a lotta fun instrumentation though. But unfortunately it’s not something I’d prefer to listen to over other tracks. Instrument highlight: assorted percussion and guitar
Forces Of Land And Life - The bells are what make it interesting, otherwise it just kinda feels blander than the others on the ‘alright’ tier. The chorus really only lasts about ten seconds. Instrument highlight: bells
Beast With Fire Upon Its Back (Zorah Magdaros) - As slow and surprisingly tame as this track is, it does feel like the embodiment of scaling up a mountain-sized volcanic monster. Is that organ I hear in the chorus aftermath? Instrument highlight: assorted brass
The Beast Bares Its Fangs (Tigrex) - Another instance where it's very fitting for the monster, but doesn’t have much replayability. For some unknown reason the added harp riffs sprinkled in make me laugh. Ah yes, let's give the aggressive feral creature that can damage you with its roars alone some nice lil’ harp riffs :) Instrument highlight: harp (for the funny)
The Voracious Devil (Deviljho) - I will live and die a Deviljho hater (not even him throwing other monsters around like toys can save him from my burning frustration hunting him), and his music definitely reflects how much of a prickly bastard he is. Definitely not replayable for me, but it sure does get the point across that you do not wanna cross paths with this giant pickle. Instrument highlight: assorted strings

YACKER TOILET
Season 5 Featured on: SiIvaGunner's Highest Quality Rips: Volume D
Ripped by Jiko Music
youtube
Of all the music featured so heavily in the olden days of YouTube, its hard to find one that's quite as perfect as Paralyzer. It sits in the perfect middleground of being instantly recognizable due to its distinct instrumentation, guitar riffs and vocals, whilst also being genuinely catchy and fun to listen to with all its history in mind. It just has such a visceral "2000s cool" energy, be that due to the aforementioned instrumentation and the hilarious lyrics, or due to the memories of everything it was attached to in the early internet. So after Unregistered Hypercam 2 won the first King for a Day Tournament and got an entire day worth of rips dedicated specifically dedicated to these kinds of songs, it came as a welcome surprise to see the songs in question continue appearing on the channel after the takeover.
YACKER TOILET is a crazy well-done execution of a simple concept for a mashup - add Paralyzer's vocals and instrumentation to Planet Wisp Act 1 from Sonic Generations. Compared to most other renditions of Planet Wisp (such as the ones featured in Planet Wisp Mashup Medley), Act 1 from Sonic Generations has a decidedly heavier and more EDM-y sound to it, in the style of the other Classic Sonic "Act 1" arrangements in the game. As a result, it makes Paralyzer fit all the more perfectly as the joke: Its the ultimate "try-hard-to-be-cool" song attached to Planet Wisp's bizarre "try-hard-to-be-cool" Sonic arrangement. The result is honestly something that replaces the original song for me - its such a natural combo, with such good pitch-shifting and use of the vocals throughout, that it almost makes me forget what the original Planet Wisp Act 1 even sounds like.
I've noticed Jiko Music is very good at these types of arrangements - just making the source tracks used fade away from your memorybanks as you listen due to how natural it sounds. There's a benefit to tackling simpler projects like this, in that you're able to refine it to damn near perfection a lot more effectively.

A medley of One Winged Angel, Shinra's Theme, JENOVA, The Price of Freedom, and the main theme of FFVII.
A Monster's Threads is a Sephiroth novel fic created by @altocat of Sephiroth's entire life before he fell into the Life Stream. (released before Ever Crisis and FFVII Rebirth) and it is an incredible read. Give it a read over on AO3 if you haven't already. The ending of this piece is completely different than my last AMT piece and honestly REALLY fun to play.
I had some time to myself today in a quiet area to record. Thus, this is Actual playing this time. I will fully update AMTs OST with more instruments at some point, but this is the best I can do for now. The only editing done was just to cut the silence before I began and after I ended.

Voiceplay Visuals: Frozen 2 Medley
I really love Frozen 2 (i like it more than the original actually), the animation is great, and the soundtrack is 10/10 awesome, and Voiceplay's medley video for it is just as good! This video features Adriana Arellano, not just in her first appearance in a Voiceplay video, but her first video performance ever? And she was only 15 when this was released?? Man
This video was actually a Christmas Day upload for Voiceplay (for my timezone anyway) back in 2019, and it's a rare case of having 6 vocalists in a video instead of the average 5 (but it you're gonna do a Frozen Medley, you're almost definitely gonna need a female singer). But anyway, let's get into this!
Tumblr media
So obviously Adriana is taking dual roles of both Anna and Elsa (in white pants and a cute periwinkle(?) top), Eli is "Disneybounding" as Olaf, Layne is being just a little bit Extra with his Sven outfit, and Earl, J, and Geoff are sharing the role of Kristoff (also Geoff in a scarf again, which he also wears in Baby Its Cold Outside, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, and his cover of White Christmas (different scarves though))
Also neat background! I'm guessing this was filmed at Pattycake Productions, but the description doesn't say
Tumblr media
"Yes the wind blows a little bit colder, and we're all getting older!" "hey!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Geoff (and Layne): "Okay Rude"
(Layne would've turned 39 in December that year, with Geoff having turned 39 a few months beforehand in August)
Geoff's hair by this point has reached the length/style that it's by and large stayed in since (though Wicked Game has me questioning if it's grown and subtly changed a little bit again)
Tumblr media
Geoff: "Maybe you should leave all the romantic stuff to meeeeeee"
Adriana: "Oh brother"
Tumblr media
"Some things stay the same, like how reindeer are easier!"
Tumblr media
(cool necklace by the way, J!)
Tumblr media
"what was that?"
Tumblr media
"da da dum"
(Also there's a video on Youtube featuring vocal ranges of different bass singers or something like that, featuring Avi Kaplan and Tim Foust and others I believe as well as Geoff, and the thumbnail has got pictures of them all from like performances and stuff, but for Geoff they used pretty much this picture 😂 Like damn why you gotta do him like that 🤣)
Tumblr media
At first I was only pausing to see what Geoff was doing with his hands (air bass again? or some other air-instrument?) but uhh there's a lot going on in this picture 😂
Layne back at it again with the carrots! (Seriously him chopping and peeling carrots and using it as actual percussion/foley is honestly iconic and will never not be the funniest thing to me)
Tumblr media
Making this post and looking for screencaps has really elevated the hilarity of this video for me honestly XD
Geoff has some lovely smiles in this video 💜 (I feel like I'm taking a lot of screencaps for this video already though, so you can go (re)watch the video yourself if you wanna see what I mean)
Tumblr media
"Being watched by something with a creepy, creepy face!'
Tumblr media
^ The "creepy creepy face" 😂
Tumblr media
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pfft 😝
Tumblr media
Oh my god I literally only just noticed the carrot necklace!!! Layne I love you
Tumblr media
Pretty Boy time!
(Don't just get yourself a man who can do both, get yourself a man who can do EVERYTHING)
Tumblr media
THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING
Tumblr media
I just realized Layne is doing air-drums and using carrots as drumsticks? (He does the same thing in the Butter video)
(Also love the lighting changes, both in light levels and colour! Shoutout to Eli!)
Tumblr media
Adriana doing the phone-light thing is iconic and kind of hilarious honestly
Tumblr media
<3
Also just noticed Adriana's cool chain-bracelet-ring accessory on her left hand! (Won't post a pic of it though because I'm worried about hitting the maximum image limit)
And that's all I have to say for this video! Man, what a freaking awesome medley. Really well done on all levels, and the enjoyment that Adriana and the guys had in making this is absolutely palpable (Also Geoff was very pretty in this video okay)

Rise!Turtles Playlists Part 2
Tumblr media
author’s note: part 2 as promised featuring Leo and Raph’s playlists! again all fun, no deep meanings, very self indulgent and from my own playlist!
part one
let me know what you guys think, any favorite songs? who’s got your favorite playlist? hope you all enjoy~~~
Leo
Honestly I think he listens to a bunch of pop and rap, something that matches his crazy personality, Leonardo’s playlist names would be something like ‘MC Leon’ or ‘Best of the best’
Tumblr media
You Get What You Give by New Radicals, (alt/indie, upbeat) he’d listen to this if he needed something genuine, something to help lift his mood, for when he’s in his feelings but the good kind, a dreamers anthem, ‘hope a ninja’s greatest weapon’
N Side by Steve Lacy, (r&b, chill) one of the more slower songs on his playlist, but still a love song, picture him in bed listening to this while reading a Jupiter Jim comic or something, knows the phone call part by heart and he acts in out in the shower
Perfect by One Direction, (pop upbeat) c’mon he likes boy bands on the down low, maybe even high key if he thinks the band is mainstream and definitely knows the words to this song, he just seems like a love song type of turtle
Shinunoga E-Wa by Fuji Kaze, (jpop, chill) one of the songs from Mikey’s playlist that Leo has claimed for his own, good music, though I imagine he’s probably as intense as the lyrics if anyone knows what the songs about, (maybe not that intense with a lover but yk what I mean)
CUFF IT by Beyoncé (disco pop, upbeat) this is it, this is his song, this is in his ears on a night out in the city, or his song choice to dance to in their arcade on Dance Dance Revolution, imagine him portaling around NYC with his brothers, possibly his theme song
Raph
If I remember correctly Raph was into soul music that one episode with the alberto animatronics, so other than jazz/soul I think he possibly could listen to these, playlist name ‘Boss Sound’ or ‘Big Red’s Hits’
Tumblr media
Dark Red by Steve Lacy, (r&b chill) definitely has those elements of jazz/soul I think, bonus points for having red in the title, Raph would definitely do chores, chill around the lair to this one, maybe play it in his room on speakers, I don’t think he’d be ashamed to play any of his songs out loud
Somewhere Only We Know by Keane, (pop uplifting) Definitely thinks of his brothers with this one, so beautiful, so sad yet happy, hard to describe really but all around a lovely song, Raph appreciates this song I think as an older brother
The Game of Love by Santana, (r&b soul upbeat) the guitar, the chorus, so good, Raph could be working out to this one, he doesn’t need something hardcore, just good music to get him through, he’s shaking his hips to this for sure
Just A Gigolo by Louis Prima, (old school jazz) yep, just listen to it, he would have sang this on that albearto stage! right?! cmon someone has to see it this way too, easy to remember, imagine his deep baritone voice singing this for karaoke, he loves all the instrument solos

Album review time!! 👹
The boys are back. XDINARY HEROES!! with their new mini album, Overload with the title track Haircut
I really liked their first album so lets get started!!
Tumblr media
Just wanna say I love the concept of this album 🫶🏻
Zzz… - 7/10 - they really love a good anti drop 1st chours into a full 2nd chrous!! And i love it too 😭 this has like beeps and boops in the back ground it’s funky!! It’s groovy!! The guitars are addicting and their vocals are amazing as per usual. ONG THE ENDING THAT HOLY SHIT
Haircut- 8/10 - THE LAUGH AT THE END OF THE FIRST SONG CARRIES INTO THIS SONG OMG!! Their instrumentals always have so many sounds but they always work so well, oh this ore-chrous is so good. The classic rock style guitar in that chrous is so good, reminds me of The Doors. The rap section was groovy. Get a haircut~~ the fucking scissor sounds are everything. Musical genius i fear.
LUNATIC - 8/10 - holy shit 😭 their fucking guitar riffs are so fucking good man. This feels like a proper punk rock song. I love it!! God that little slide in the vocals in the chorus makes me ascend. Yknow when you just listen to a good song and you’re just clutching your heart because it’s so good?? Yeah that’s how i feel rn
Crack in the mirror - 9/10 - i’m on the verge of tears, like why is every song so good but also each song is better than the other. This whole album so far is building upon the song before it and curating this vibe that’s somewhat inspired by halloween but also universal songs. This one also feels like it can be an drama/anime OST OMG THAT BRIDGE THE ORGAN SYNTH SOUNDS I’VE HAD ENOUGH ITS TOO GOOD
Ghost - 8/10 - this is the one i claimed from the highlight medley lets have a listen 👹 fucking hell, the vocals, the whistles, i hate them, why are their songs so good. With the way the chours is, it feels very Muse like. And as your biggest muse fan, this is an amazing thing. WHAT ITS OVER ITS TOO SHORT
X-MAS - 8.5/10 - holy shit, id that a sample from the water level of mario 64… dude i literally have no words. The christmas song tune incorporation is so good but also it doesn’t limit itself to just being a christmas song. It’s very much gonna be listened to all year round for me. Yeah i love this. The final chorus is final chorusing so well.
In conclusion, stan Xdinary Heroes. They haven’t missed yet honestly 🫶🏻

TØP Monthly Update #158: Unplugged (6/17/22)
Tumblr media
So... I'm a little late to the party...
As you all (probably) (definitely) know by now, our band was featured on MTV Unplugged last week for a very plugged-in performance. However, it was still a very different performance, with Tyler and Josh using live sampling and looping to construct new versions of their songs in real time. It was pretty cool!
But since you don't really need me to tell you all this, I figure I might as well give my impressions on each of their tracks. While I wasn't head over heels for all of them, I am 100% behind the band continuing to challenge themselves, find new forms of artistic expression, and discover ways to feature Joshua William Dun on the mic. Hearing him singing while also playing multiple instruments/machines was a revelation. Growth is good, we love to see it!
"Stressed Out"- By the nature of the form, all of these tracks took a little bit to come together. This one probably took the longest to "get going", and I honestly didn't love the direction at first... at least until they stripped back everything for the bridge, which featured a duet. I never thought I'd see Tyler and Josh harmonizing, and there was something really wonderful about seeing my two music idols look into each other's eyes while singing over such a dreamy, soothing arrangement.
"Tear In My Heart"- A gentle, synth-infused version of a true underrated classic of their discography. This one just reminded me that we really need to give "Tear" its flowers; folks forget how much it laid the groundwork for "Stressed Out"'s commercial cement. This version's echoey harmonies made it probably my second favorite track from this performance.
"House of Gold/Lane Boy"- Tyler thinks he's such a comedian, but we all know that Josh is the funnier one. Incorporating the audience into the track in some way (even if they are almost completely covered up by the effects) seems like a really promising step for future shows. I love the rendition of "House of Gold", and I like the idea of using "I'll put you on the map" to link it to "Lane Boy", but it still feels like something's missing from this version.
"Shy Away"- I've seen some people compare this more stripped down version to some Self-Titled tracks, and that's a good thing for me. Love the soulful "I love you"s. That said... it really drags in the middle, the peppier repeat ending is much weaker/unnecessary, and the final impov riff on needing to pad for time is... well, kinda bad? I dunno, maybe it played better in the room.
"Ride/Nico and the Niners"- Love the crowd interactions for this. Tyler's counting methods are confusing; who the hell counts to four? Otherwise good but not especially noteworthy.
"Car Radio/Heathens"- 100/10. Holy hell. I've heard fan covers of "Car Radio" that lean into hard rock potential, but hearing Tyler do the riff and blown-out screaming himself was so metal. While I would never want them to replace the normal live version, I'm begging them to release this track.
In other news, our band is back on the road! The last time they were in Europe, Tyler was recording the superior version of "The Hype" and announcing Jenna's first pregnancy; now he has two baby girls. Time isn't real! They should be taking the stage at Pinkpop in the Netherlands literally as I write this, and they'll play at the Hurricane and Southside Festivals in Germany over the weekend before kicking off the London leg of Takeover Tour starting Tuesday.
But before they did all that, their first show after a brief hiatus was a few weeks ago in BottleRock at Napa Valley. Judging by the setlist for that show, we probably shouldn't be expecting too much different for these other summer shows other than a slightly different campfire medley. If you haven't gotten the chance to check that out, it's a good laugh (shout out to Fookie).
Finally, Jenna shared some pictures of Tyler's new studio, now featuring much more natural light and more personal touches. I don't think that means that we're getting a new album anytime soon, but hopefully it proves to helpful for his mental health while he's in work mode. For now, our band is back out on the road, where they're supposed to be, and I couldn't be more excited for what lies ahead.
Power to the local dreamer.

Heroes- David Bowie
released October 14, 1977
Here we have the centerpiece to Bowie’s Berlin trilogy. Truthfully I was quite unfamiliar with his work at this time until just this year. A lot of this album is still very new and fresh to me, aside from the title track of course. I do enjoy a lot of it but my absolute favorite track besides the obvious is also Moss Garden. I really like the Brian Eno instrumental pieces that came out during the Berlin trilogy. Moss Garden is one of my favorites to relax to before I attempt sleeping (I’m unfortunately terrible at sleeping when I should and shouldn’t). This song in particular is great for meditation, along with Subterraneans on Low, and Crystal Japan, and the list goes on.
Beauty and the Beast, Joe The Lion, and Sons of the Silent Age are all great jams I adore! I honestly have to skip Sense of Doubt a lot because it makes me so anxious….. which seems like the purpose of it. 😅 I like Neuköln and what it’s doing but it has to be for very specific times because it’s such an ear feast it’s too much to handle at times, but I love it for that.
Now for the song many may consider Bowie’s magnum opus. Heroes has been on my radar from the beginning. Not long after my friend showed me Labyrinth she was like “Oh you like this funky old guy? Get a load of this!” and showed me Moulin Rouge. 😂 I was sorely disappointed to not see him in it despite her insistence he’s “in it”.
Which technically yes, he sings Nature Boy in the beginning which is lovely. But what did stand out to me was the Elephant Medley scene…. Especially the sequence they begin to sing Heroes. I listened to the original not long after and it was amongst my top 3 for many years. It’s like an old friend whenever I put it on now. Something to remind me of hope in the darkest of hour; a triumphant anthem to belt out on drives to release those disruptive emotions of fear.
I only just recently learned more about its connection with the Berlin Wall and how impactful it was. Also he sang it for a charity event in support of 9/11 first responders. It’s definitely one of his most powerful songs and I’m forever grateful it’s there in those terrifying moments when it feels like all is lost as a reminder that we can be our own heroes just by living on in defiance of despair. Thanks again, my hero. You created something revolutionary and the world is brighter for it. 💖

17 questions, 17 people
Tagged by @hiddenstitches 🥰❤️
Nickname: I mean I usually just go by Kayla, but Kay is fine too
Sign: Taurus
Height: 5’2”
Last thing I googled: HP deskjet 4100 ink
Song stuck in my head: currently listening to “The Only Exception” by Paramore, but I was dangerously singing “Corrupt” by Depeche Mode to myself up front at work earlier without realizing that’s what I was singing at first lol, so then I started humming instead lol 😅❤️🖤
Number of followers: 219
Amount of sleep: Ahaha what is sleep? 🥲 I’m in the process of moving but also still working, so I’m not getting very much sleep at all rn
Lucky number: idk if they’re lucky but I like 5 and 24
Dream Job: dream that won’t happen is being on Broadway, dream that might maybe eventually happen is being a graphic designer
Wearing: my work shirt, teal jeggings, a hoodie which I’m not supposed to wear at work but it’s cold, and black boots
Movies/Books that summarize me: oof like that are essentially my life rn or that are my faves? Not necessarily my fave movie but Inside Out is coming to mind to summarize me? I’m moving and having a lot of feelings about everything rn, the personified emotions in my head are fumbling my memory orbs, I’ve a conveyor belt of Killian Jones copies, and I’m 26 but I feel like my puberty island is just popping up within the last 1-2 years lol
Favorite Song: honestly this changes by the minute lol. Most recently I’ve been hooked on “Mindset” by Every Avenue ❤️🖤
Favorite Instrument: guitar and piano, though I play neither as much as I’d like to learn (I used to be able to play a liiiiiittle piano by ear but I wasn’t very good at it and can’t keep time well, so basically I can’t play it lol)
Aesthetic: quiet, introverted, cats, surrounded by unread books, cozy covers, stuffed animals, fandom everything, black graphic tees, hoodies, colorful nail art but also solid dark chipped nails (it varies), varying lyrics from BSB to Halestorm to Broadway etc, and recently secretly black lipstick 😇
Favorite author: Roland Smith and Lemony Snicket, though I haven’t really read much of anything in a while. Lots of CS fic authors too ❤️
Favorite animal noise: my cat’s purrs 🥰
Random: I never know what to say for this lol. In my high school chorus class, we sang a medley of songs from The Phantom of the Opera, so they showed us the 2004 movie version at the end of the year, but I missed a day because I was sick. So me being me, loving both the musical and Gerard Butler, borrowed it from the library to see what I’d missed. With my renews, I ended up watching it while I did homework every night, 31 times in 28 days, to learn every single word of singing and dialogue before I had to return the DVD, because I didn’t know if I’d ever get to watch or listen to it all the way through again so I wanted to memorize it. (My mom got me the DVD and CD for my next birthday after that. lol) It’s been a while now since I last watched it so I might’ve forgotten some by now, but yeah, for a while I could basically watch the whole movie in my head. 😅🤷🏼‍♀️❤️
Tagging ❤️: @dystopiandramaqueen @hollyethecurious @mischievousgraxaim @justanother-unluckysoul @undercaffinatednightmare @cosette141 and I know that’s not 17 but my phone is acting up, so if you see this and want to do it, consider yourself tagged 😘❤️

Note
also here is my fts tracks ranking…? it’s very wordy I apologize if u just wanted the list lol. - car crash anon
1. [march] ugh when the chorus hits there’s this little “dudududu” thing in the bg that’s like this kind of beeping adjacent noise. and I love it so much. i love how this song sounds like there’s not anything I can point to specifically but I rly like it. maybe it’s the fact that like… there’s just so much singing? like the “like a cowboy” immediately leads into more singing. it’s so nice. oh and the guitar thing the song leads with. from that alone I knew I was gonna be into it
2. [ash] did NOT expect to like the song as much as I did! love the effects on the voices here which I don’t usually do. the part before the chorus hits genuinely has my whole heart. i love that like,, kind of menacing sound it has soooo much. im so into that kind of thing. the vernon part is so good too… ash to action is very smooth. this mostly ranks so high because I loveeeee that part before the chorus so much… think shadow might have this spot in a few months if I get tired of it?
3. [shadow] “shadow my shadow my shadow…” I love how they straight up just cut this off to jump into the next part instead of doing like. oh let’s repeat this line but increase the intensity to lead into the next part—oh no the next part just comes in huh. anyways it’s just a banger <3 one of my favorite things abt a lot of svt songs is like. they start and they just keep on going without ever feeling like they lose their momentum? and this was rly like that
4. [DON QUIXOTE] i /adore/ the piano at the beginning of this song. it makes the whole thing sound really bright! mostly I just feel like this song didn’t really Go Places? which is fine, bc I still like it, but I do wish it did a little More
5. [domino] i like the instrumental! it’s a lil bouncy despite the song overall feeling quite soft. also I love how it sounds whenever they go here we gooooo. here we gooooo.
6. [IF you leave me] there’s this like piano breakdown where it feels like the piano is like. offbeat compared to their vocals and the tempo of the song is increasing? and it’s soooo cool I’m into it. this was a very nice song I loved hearing the layers in it. i think ballads are always very slow for me to get into, though.
7. [‘bout you] cute and peppy!! and I love the harmonies they add a lot of charm to the whole thing
8. [HOT] ok I personally just don’t vibe with the like… hot, hot, hot bit? the rest of the song I love so much though. but especially like man the first minute of this song… so good. and the post chorus bit. what I was really surprised with was that u actually rly liked the effects on the voices! like 90% of the time I dislike that kind of thing but I think it rly fit here. guess they nailed that down on ash and this song huh
9. [darl+ing] honestly a cute song. just not for me!
NO BC I LOVE THIS SM??????????? love that u even thought of giving me a full breakdown i LOOOVE hearing abt things like this v much
ALSO ASH RANKING THIS HIGH ON UR LIST????????????????????????????????? im kissing u on the mouth <3 she def is NOT for everyone but the way u described it is EXACTLY how i perceived it as well and the exact reason why i love it. ALSO WHEN WONU'S CHORUS DROPPED???????????? took me to church, fucking killed me and ascended my soul to heaven
and agreed omg <3 the buildups and the general arrangement of svteenie songs really does feel v cohesive and consistent!! also not to pick a bone with... the new genre of making frankenstein songs (i like them sometimes), but sustaining momentum really makes the song much more fulfilling to listen to if that makes sense
YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO <3 i’m so in love w u rn. and people really were expecting v much from don quixote jkdsfhjdsf ok but the bass on this song,,,,,,,, LOVE
THE HERE WE GO DSFJSDKFJKDS MADE ME LAUGH BUT YES I GET UUUUUUUUUUU!! also one of my favorite parts of the song tbh. the medley really did not do her justice, she was SOOOO much more than i expected
relate <3 i also don’t find myself gravitating towards ballads. i’m more of a click clack pots and pans banging girl 😭 construction music as the kids call it
I CANT WAIIIIIIIIIT for them to perform bout u in cons tbh. i feel like it’s gonna be a very cute perf or just a fun stage in general if they decide to execute it as something similar to, say, a-teen. (+ dk’s gonna kill these harmonies live i just KNOWWWWW it)
AND ME TOOOOO!! i usually don’t like,, uhh, autotune and similar shit on songs but i think it was very fitting indeed. and i get where ure coming from abt liking the first few parts of it more! and not to be me but like... dk slaying that pre-chorus.... enough to seal the deal for me tbh
LOVE HOW U SAID THAT? and while it also isn’t one of my favorite svteenie song, i def think darling really has served her purpose really well!!

The World Ep. 1
Sector 1 - so conflicted about this one. I really like the verses and I like the chorus (well, the first part of it) but separately. The chorus feels like Win but doesn't go well with everything else in my opinion ? upd. Ok, after some listening, it's quite bearable (especially the verses), but this part with "Make it rain..." is still a bit cringy lol
Cyberpunk - the melody is insane. The chorus and the rap bridge part *chef's kiss* But. The loud drums right in my ears are killing me. It's that mixing that makes it hard for me to listen to in earphones. Because i turn the volume up to hear the voices clearly and get deaf by the high toned drums hitting my eardrums. Otherwise, this and New world were my picks from the highlight medley and oh boy was i right about my tastes. Reminds me a lot about Take me home for some reason. upd. What would make make it even better is some alternations to the choruses, with the same english phrases it could get too repetitive. But on the other hand, adlibs keep it fresh
Guerrilla - once again, bless KQ for giving us previews of title tracks to get used to the sound and adjust expectations if needed. It took me a hot minute to warm up to this song, ngl. But. I did lol It's the closest we got to rockteez and I'll take it happily. Felt a little bit all over the place at first, mixed genres and sounds. What finally got me was a live they did on kiss the radio. The vocals!!! They don't shine that much on stage (because of heavy choreo, duh) but they are there👌 Especially Jongho, especially the bridge part at the end. 👏Give Jongho more rock to sing👏 Seonghwa's voice is also really fitting. And surprisingly to myself, my eyes are glued to Yeo and Yunho this comeback, since the performance preview. They truly glow. So, not the most favorite title, not in my top 5, but it's fine, we could have had it worse
The Ring - bet Ateez peppering in some Lord of the Rings references wasn't on anyone's bingo cards lol it's so random. I like the sound and it's a good song to have playing in the background. Love Mingi's part in 2nd verse upd. Honestly, after The Leaders it's hard to surprise me with a weirder sound from Ateez, but this song did at first. I do quite like it now, it's usually the sound/genre I would go for. And the vocals here are so so nice. Even considering all of the voice affects, because they truly fit here. Wooyoung, Yunho and San's voices are it. Something tells me we'll hear this song live at the upcoming tour and I can't wait
Where Do I Go - not my cup of tea, and many listens didn't really help much. Am I ready to overlook this for the chorus and the bridge parts? Well. At least, I'd not skip it
New World - this one, in true Ateez' fashion, is a hymn and a grand movie soundtrack. Love it for them (and for me). Again, in love with the chorus and the melody, and that instrumental drop before the chorus, and Mingi's bridge part. And most importantly, with the feeling of going into the last glorious battle, or rather the dawn of a new era after it. A proper ending to an album
