People of the Galactic Horde (the OGs)

Since I'm working on a Horde Prime origin story, it was inevitable that one day I would have to come up with designs for his species aka the original spacebats. And well, it was a fun challenge!

(click/tap to have a better look!) My first attempt at drawing other bats was with the High Priests of the Four Temples - the most influential and powerful people on the planet, also known as Anillis'/Prime's teachers :)

See that last guy? That's the emperor of the original Galactic Horde! Though after his unexpected early death his wife had to become the new Prime. Gladly, Horde World was not left without a future heir to the throne^^

Fun thing is, I never planned on making designs for Anillis' parents, since they never appear in the actual story + even the twins don't remember what they looked like. But idc making fanparents is fun! (In my vision Horde Prime inherited the death stare from his mother and the sly misleading smile from his father >:} )

I also had to design tons, and I mean tons of episodic characters of all ages, genders and backgrounds. Now after all this training I'm ready to fill the backgrounds with bats :3

Some general notes on the people of the Horde under the cut

Every spacebat is born with a white face. Any deviations were rare and considered a type of skin condition

Facial markings slowly appear once baby bats hit puberty. When spacebats' white faces were seen as blank canvases, the facial markings were their life journey drawn on said canvases. The markings were seen as the real window to the soul. Having no marks as an adult was simply outlandish, people of Krytis even had a belief that such bats "had nothing behind their soul" and thus could not be trustworthy

Facial markings (as well as ears) came in many forms. In ancient times one could tell in which of the four original provinces a person was born by simply looking at their faces. Nowadays it became nearly impossible to guess someone's homeland this way (mostly everyone are people of mixed descent), but to those curious this is how bats used to distinguish one another by their markings:

North - straight lines across/all over the face (e.g. the emperor)

South - wavy lines across/all over the face e.g. (the High Priestess of the Southern temple)

West - straight minimalistic lines (e.g. horde clones)

East - wavy minimalistic lines (e.g. the empress)

Hair never held much cultural significance on Krytis, so the styling was only a question of one's personal preference and fashion trends. Some bats (mainly from the south) saw no point in having hair whatsoever - those would choose to go bald or shave parts of the head to better show off their markings

Everyone had one set of eyes. Only local deities were sometimes depicted having 3 and more eyes. And yes, their eyes and teeth do glow in the dark

I wanted to make colorful bats to futher emphasise their whimsical and peaceful nature :) Well, if u think about it many poisonous creatures are colorful too...

I wouldn't be myself if I didn't say anything about local fashion. I don't have my own concepts at hand sadly, just references, but my main inspiration for the fashion of Krytis are late 90s-early 00s futurism and cyber aesthetic. Here and there u will also see smth similar to mall goth or streetwear style, but it's mostly something what young blood were into

Some bats like the royal family and council members would wear more classy and regal clothes but still more or less modern looking. Such choice of attire was espeically important to the empress, who, unlike her late husband, stayed far away from religion and magic and made it the main goal of her campaign to weaken the influence of the religious community and push for scientific and socio-cultural progress

Idk if you’ve gotten this ask before, but is there anything you would have changed if you wrote pjo/hoo/toa? And how would you have written it?

never gotten this ask before! and oh man, yeah, there are some things i would change. i wouldn't call myself someone who does analysis on their favorite media (at least i don't do it very often) i just read/watch and enjoy, unless there's something that seriously strikes me as Kind of Very Weird. half the time i don't mind occasional bad writing if i enjoy the media very much, which is the case with pjo, but again, there are some things that were odd to me lol. keep in mind it's been a while since i've reread so these are just things i remember vividly as being something i very much didn't like/understand.

percy jackson and the olympians:

that whole 'entwining history' with pjo thing felt weird to me: like with harriet tubman being called a child of hermes? for one, it feels unnecessary, and two, it feels as though all the things she's done, all of her bravery, wit, courage, are being attributed to her demigod status, as hermes is the god of travelers, cunning, roads, etc. it feels insensitive and not handled very well. there's also a blurb that mentions that hitler was a child of hades, that world war II was a conflict of the big three, and that the civil war was a roman vs greek conflict - again, these all just feel so insensitive to the actual historical events that occurred, ascribing all that violence and catastrophe to a squabble between the children of the big three when the actual causes of these events were so much more complicated and deep-rooted. i believe it was an attempt at trying to see where the gods fit in the modern tapestry, but i don't think actual history needs to be bastardized in order to write smth like that. there's also the issue with the "western civilization" narrative portrayed in the story, but i don't feel like i could even adequately sum up the issue here.

the fix-it: just. don't have the historical stuff? the insertion of demigods in wwII is supposed to show the destruction of these big three children in battle, and the later prophecy would supposedly give more reasoning as to why the big three can't have children. but why not just have the prophecy recited before wwII and cut out the 'oh demigods partook in wwII" nonsense? [before the war, after the diangelos are born] the gods have already witnessed wars that actual demigods took part in, such as the trojan war, and saw how terrible those effects were. and there were hardly any big three kids in that battle that were main players. if demigods who weren't of big three ancestry caused that much destruction, wouldn't that be apt enough reason, along with the ominous prophecy, not to give birth to any kids? especially because greek mythology is rife with sons trying to overturn their fathers, and said fathers trying to overturn that future. that itself gives perfect context for why this child-making ban would be introduced, and why zeus especially would enforce it (ex. attempted murder of the diangelos) because. he's literally the "son who overturned his father" (kronos.)

luke having romantic feelings for annabeth: why. why. when i was reading the series i always assumed he had spared annabeth because of their familial ties, but in staff of hermes percy describes their relationship as "luke later gaining feelings for her" which...why? lmao

the fix-it: luke does love annabeth, but as a younger sister, and it is that sibling love that makes him spare her all the times he did, and inevitably helps him break from kronos' hold. i think it's much more meaningful, makes more sense [ties into the threeway "family" conflict between thalia, luke, and annabeth], and obviously isn't weird to think about it like the aforementioned canon dynamic.

heroes of olympus:

portrayal of poc characters: now, i'm going to be honest, when i first read hazel's description, i never thought there was anything wrong with it. my rationale for this was "oh, golden eyes because she controls minerals" however many people have brought up how this feeds into the exotic poc caricature. while many characters have oddly colored eyes, i haven't done enough in depth research on the history of written poc characters and their applied descriptors, i don't want to minimize what could be a genuine issue. on another note, while i don't claim to be an expert on native american culture and tradition, i am aware of the numerous claims that native american pjo fans have made about piper, especially her wearing feathers in her hair. i think in her case it's very much cut and dry; rick didn't do his research regarding her heritage, at least in the earlier books.

the fix-it: research.

portrayal of medea (and other mythological characters): in the lost hero, medea is portrayed as a "blood-thirsty psycho," all while ignoring the terrible way jason (from the mythos, not Grace) treated her and the hardships that she went through. and that is my point - pjo does subvert some tropes, like hades being the villain [although given the fact that it is also canon his children were on the axis side, well.] but many times it falls into the same overused narratives, like medusa being characterized as the killer when in reality she was born a gorgon and often visited by heroes who wanted to kill her for glory [the version where she was a priestess was written by ovid, and ovid seems to have a passionate hatred for athena and women in general, as can be seen in his retellings.] i can understand this in pjo, but i think heroes of olympus truly would have benefited from more nuanced characterizations.

the fix it: research!

di angelo's Otherness + the ooc behavior of characters: one detail i always remember is how leo and piper behaved around nico, and the apparent...teasing? bullying? that went on behind his back - at least, it's alluded to that they both make some not-so-nice remarks about him. and it doesn't make sense to me, especially when leo and piper are both victims of bullying, have been judged for their appearance, etc. leo's literal first scene is him making fun of a bully [dylan] to jason, and in the mark of athena, when he and hazel see the vision of sammy making fun of one of hazel's bullies, leo mentions that he used to do that all the time. i think having leo and piper behave this way was supposed to emphasize nico's "not-belonging" within the argo II environment, but why at the sake of their characters? additionally, the scene were he does make those comments seems another way to frame jason as nico's "ally" [which the fandom loves to do while ignoring jason's actions towards nico in general, but that's a whole other thing lmao.]

the fix-it: don't include that post-cupid jason + leo + piper scene. there was already a layer of distrust between that group and nico, which is enough to emphasize a divide.

the detriment of caleo on leo's character arc: romance is everywhere it doesn't need to be in this second series. everyone is with someone, for better or for worse. however, while relationships like jasper and frazel are either unnecessary or badly developed, there is no relationship, i think, that is as detrimental to a character's arc as caleo is to leo. i won't be doing a deep-dive, as there are other posts on this site that delve into the issue better than i could, but i wanted to list it as one of my biggest gripes - it basically takes all his struggles with self and decides to give him a girlfriend as a shoddy fix-all.

the fix-it: there are a lot of ways you could go about rewriting this, but i'd have calypso be freed after the second titanomachy, join the hunters as her sister did - that way she could retain her immortality - and travel the world with them. khione would blast leo off the ship - maybe he gets injured and has to find his way back, thinking all the while that his friends have probably moved on, but he finds that they're all still there, desperately searching. he tells them they should have moved on, and they'd say that they aren't leaving him behind, that he's important to them more than to the mission, etc. although i think for this to work other dynamics would need to be tweaked - [no jasper after the first book; focus is instead on strengthening the lost trio's friendship throughout the rest of the book.]

the ending + gaea: i think it's a general fandom consensus that the ending for blood of olympus left much to be desired. the final battle felt so rushed and...didn't make much sense to me? how do you lift a being who is the earth...out of the earth...? and that's the main issue with me, honestly. how do you defeat the earth? there was that whole "scatter her essence" blurb at the end of the book, but that also didn't make much sense to me. gaea as a villain seemed like a bad choice because a.) her rising up to destory the olympians because of their treatment of her children is a repeat of the gigantomachy, just as pjo is a second titanomachy. it feels like the same narrative is being recycled, and b.) because she is the earth. a primordial being. i don't know how to re-hash this, but it's simply unrealistic to have a band of teenagers defeat an entity as old and powerful in a handful of chapters.

the fix-it: different villain entirely! at least, that's what i would do, because i can't think of a way to destroy the earth that doesn't involve actively poisoning it/j. there are a plethora of interesting mythological figures who would make for good antagonists, and also shed light on issues besides the ones pjo already touched on.

trials of apollo: i have not reread this series in a long while, and unlike the others can't remember as vividly the details, but the thing i remember bothering me the most occured in the dark prophecy, in which two lesbian hunters of artemis describe how they had to leave the hunters on account of their relationship. @solisaureus has an in-depth post about this which effectively sums up the issues and goes into other problems with the hunters, and i think they break it down better than i do, so go check that out!

the sun and the star:

pacing: i enjoyed the book but did feel like it was paced weirdly - for a book all about a couple journeying into tartarus, they only entered tartarus during the last hundred pages. i think this contributes to the bad fight at the ending, too, as it felt very rushed. i think having the couple spend a lot of time in the underworld was supposed to establish will's discomfort and the later conflict, but three hundred pages is a bit much. i also find it difficult to believe that nyx, the literal definition of night, was defeated so quickly, or defeated at all. i did enjoy her as a villain more than i did gaea, but i had the same problem of being dissatisfied with the ending battle.

the fix-it: i feel like having the villain be akhlys would make sense. as the goddess of misery, she might want to convince nico that grief is eternal, inescapable, and that he may as well succumb to a life of tragedy. buuut that would also mean no cocoa puffs. and i like the cocoa puffs - so this one is a bit up in the air for me!

plague will: this is personal to me because i love this headcanon and when it became canon i was all "oh, woah" but then it was. never brought up again lmao.

the fix-it: have him use it earlier in the book [perhaps discover it when he goes out by himself] and try to suppress it, but eventually learn that his negative emotions + memories - "darkness" - shouldn't be suppressed, but rather released; that those aren't things to fear. or at least have him talk about it later with nico and try to sort out what their existence means for him. [there are other problems with tsats that people did bring up, but i don't actually have issues with them - i.e. "the first kiss," "coming-out scene," continuity errors, etc. the coming out scene is especially controversial, but my only issue with that is that nico asked out will without considering will's closeted status. the continuity errors aren't really something to dedicate a whole bullet point to, seeing as rick's timeline is eternally convoluted and just not worth getting irritated over at this point.]

it's been a WHILE since i've actually played an event...like since the one where mammon sang in front of a crowd or smth idk

does mc have the flower ??? or is it diavolo's by default ????

also where is this in the timeline? given what we know about the game and the whole time soup thing (more on this here), it's very possible that every even is in its own alternate universe

i feel like thematically, it fits in the nightbringer timeline, but diavolo said something about the "RAD student body" enjoying the concert, so it could very well also be in the og timeline. or it might be in a different timeline altogether. or multiple timelines at different points in their history

😐 i hate them

if mc yelled stay, this whole situation could've been avoided. maybe. but it also might've made things worse considering that they literally could be flung to the floor from the sheer force of their pacts and shatter the flower anyways

if we're in the current timeline post-nightbringer, bc not only do they have pacts with all seven of the brothers, but other versions of all of them. and if we're going by that logic, doesn't it mean that their pacts in the first timeline before lesson 16 still have some effect? like does that not make them at least twice as strong ??? or am i dumb

...is this gonna be one of those "the power of friendship" type things where they all become the ruler? i'm sick

also, the story bits are like...extremely short. have they always been this short ??? i mean it makes sense considering the fact that they're not a part of the main story and the fact that they crank these out rapid-fire, and the fact that there's 4 chapters instead of the usual 2, but damn 😭

yeah i dont mind at all :o ig yallre gonna hear my full origin story now haah. its my—my… ok id say tragic backstory but i dont think this is really that tragic LMAO. my humorous backstory? silly backstory?

anyway i got into rezero in summer of 2020!! this was months before s2 started airing and by around this time there was just s1, s1 directors cut may or may not have been out?? i forgor :<, but then s2’s first teaser came out right about now.

it was quarantine…. i was bored one day and wanted smth new to watch… and by then id only really briefly seen rezero—like you know that s1 promo poster with subaru standing there while surrounded by some of the main girls in s1 (beatrice felt emilia rem ram)?? yeah id seen that. in the back of my mind i kinda assumed the show was just another one of those abt a dude surrounded by his harem of girls or smth?? :< but then i learned the Real Premise is the time travel. via death!!!! and ive always loveddd angst and whump so i was like “NO FUCKING WAY I HIT THE JACKPOT” and eagerly looked into rezero some more to see if it was worth watching. and then i saw all the shit reviews on rz that never seemed to agree on if it was good or not…… and then gigguk’s video…… and then i saw mother’s basement on youtube make a defense of rezero s1 and i was like!!! ok fuck it im watching this show. i want the angst i want the complex time travel shit. i think id spoiled myself on a couple of subarus deaths by this point trying to decide if i should commit to rezero and then i started binge watching s1!! esp when i was like ok this is a good time to get into it s2 was announced right??

anyway i got hooked on rezero fr 👍👍 the first s1 emisuba lap pillow had me quaking in my boots ;-;;; and i was already invested from ep1 bc i liked the characters a lot already!!! i am simply BUILT DIFFERENT i loved subaru from day one!!! by the royal selection episodes ofc i was dying of secondhand embarrassment but tbh i grew even more invested in rezero after that!! i was and still am super impressed that the narrative had the balls to have subaru fuck up sooo so so bad there. like seeing that emisuba argument and the julisuba duel for the first time was crazyyy. the conflict was really good and the latter s1 development…. woagh.

and then you know i finish s1 and i immediately get to researching how to read, i read arc 4’s wn and bawl my eyes out from the sheer amount of rollercoaster both the emotions and Long Ass Novel gave me (yes i was bawling my eyes out at parent and child) (yes i was bawling my eyes out at choose me) (yes i was bawling my eyes out for all the suffering loops) (yes i was bawling) (i have no clue how i read all those pages fr like that arc is massive), i speedrun arc 5, i accidentally spoil certain bits for myself (arc 6 stuff), i read most of arc 6 in spurts, tune in every week for s2 (and bawled my eyes out seeing the s2 part 1 op for the first time) etc etc!! one thing lead to another and now i am here…….. three yrs in this fandom… nearly (?) a yr being active on rezero tumblr… HAH

also i made a reddit account back inn…. 2020 or 2021 bc i wanted to be a tinyyy bit active in rezero reddit (this was half a mistake btw. i think i have more balls of steel now but my younger self was sooooo naive. shaking them by the shoulders. this is an anime fandom!!!!!! and this is reddit!!! whatre u expecting???? i am less shy now on the internet thats for sure!!). anyway im still a tiny bit active on rz reddit now after not touching it for like a year. now i use my reddit account for spreading otto propaganda and slander /lh …../hj

but anyway ive never been active in fandoms until rezero and thats bc id usually lurk and a lot of my past hyperfixation medias were :< big fandoms :<<< but then. ok im a fanfic enjoyer and i didnt write much fanfic or publish fic at all before this fandom but then in 2020 after watching s1 i checked rezero’s ao3 page and *sniffles* *sobs* thERE WAS ONLY LIKE 2 PAGES ON THERE MAN….. A WHOLE DESERT…. yes and then one thing lead to another and now there is more fic and also ig id be considered an english fic writer elder maybe…… i started posting in like fall/winter 2020? and maaaan im one of the only ppl from that era whos still posting i think!!! ive seen the entire english fanfic scene pop up!! ive participated in a bunch of community events… sooo wild to think about. i feel old guys!!!

but now i have gotten more and more active in the rz fandom yes :3 its been fun!! rezero is very important media to me and ive met lots of cool people in my time here :) when october 2024 rolls around itll be s3 time (AAAAA HYPE HYPE HYPE) and like four yrs of me being in this fandom?? its wild but my lifes genuinely changed a lot bc of me getting into rezero!! met lots of cool people… made pals… gotten my writing and art out there and improved on it via. large amounts of rezero fanart HAH.. became more unhinged.. etc etc :D even got to meet one of my buddies i met via rezero irl 👍👍 more irl crossover events will happen i swear.

also gigguk in my eyes redeemed himself for his old rezero skit vid by making a glowing review for rezero s2 with his pals. i can forgive him i suppose :<<<

in conclusion: idk if i count as a fandom elder but i sure have a lot of my own fandom lore pfft :<<<

Lucifer

Dear

Definitely not a unpopular opinion that Lucifer is more of a classic sort of guy, and Dear is his main nickname! He likes it because he feels very domestic when he uses it! He also feel very good when you bring him a little cup o' joe, and thanks you with a little "I love you, Dear"

Bean

Ok, a little silly sure but the story is cute. Lucifer is absolutely hammered on wine (or would it be demonias or smth) You sharing a couple of glasses, he starts getting really love sick silly, "You're such a little bean, you're so cute I love you" so of course you start calling him jelly, he only really uses it when he's drunk but you always call him jelly <3

Human

A fan-favourite among the demons, he only uses this when he's either teasing you or youre in some hot shit. It's like when a mom uses a child's full name to let them know they messed up. "Human, you think you can just get away with that?" But it's more of a tone thing so you can always tell when's he's teasing and time to kiss his face or when it's time to run!

Mammon

Little Crow

Mammon always uses this one when he's comforting you! It makes you feel small and safe, in your protectors arms! "Just relax little crow, I got you" one hundred percent starts calling you that because of how close you are with his familiars, they just naturally like you! They follow you around, and bring you little trinkets it just felt natural!

Baby

Starts calling you that, when you show him a human romcom, thinks it's a little weird that humans call each other that, but Mammons got the spirit! Definitely the one he calls you baby most, it doesn't embarrass him to call you that in front of others like his more embarrassing nicknames, "I love you baby, got that?"

Treasure

Another big fannon one! He uses this one when he's feeling a little more possessive, or when he's jealous! This one came pretty naturally to him it was the first one he came up with for you, "you're all my treasure! nobody else's" Just a swift arm wrapped around the waist and casual nickname drop says all that needs to be said when someone's challenging Mammon!

Leviathan

Henry

Cannon Nickname!! Calls you this because you're his best friend!! and wether or not you're in a romantic relationship doesn't change that! "ROTFL henry did you see that?" Uses this nickname the most, it's one that's close to his heart and can use wether or not he's feeling flustered!

Ruri

I can't believe I've never seen this before, but he definitely calls you that, I mean come on he known to call you Anime characters names this isn't totally out of the blue! He uses it when he's feeling particularly romantic, when you're curled into his side watching an anime! "I love you Ruri!"

Cutie

This is a normie nickname you forced him to call you! Well not really but that's what Levi tells people. You were playing nentendogs with him and named a dog Cutie, soooo totally not normie, right? "Aaah cutie stop being so cute!" Cutie is a nicknamed saved for comfort! He wants to remind you about being happy and playing video games with him.

Some lore question about brothers keeper second captivity arc (with Jake this time) I might have missed the answers to these questions somewhere in the masterlist so sorry about that, if you could point me in the direction of the answers I'd appreciate it

Why are the 4 (Volkov, Ben, Jake and Dmitri) on an island? Aren't they in Russia somewhere? Where's Ilya and Andrei? Did they die or smth? Is it only the 4 of them or are there more? Why did Volkov and Dmitri make Ben and Jake pretend to be into them? Just to fuck with them or was some part of it genuine? I ask bc I srsly didn't expect Volkov to kidnap Ben AGAIN (or his brother) and Volkov said they can work up to pet names, implying they were gonna do that again. Also, when Ben and Jake are rescued, are Volkov and Dmitri killed? I couldn't tell if they were from what I read and I wanna be sure because fuck those guys

So, there are some things here that I cannot answer because of upcoming plot points. That said, here is what I can answer…

The fics where they are on an island are set AFTER Ben has been rescued from his first captivity and then recapture with Jake a couple or three years later. For the most part it is just the four of them. (No I cannot say what happened to any other characters at this time. You will eventually find out.)

Yes Dmitri and Volkov made Ben and Hake pretend to be in to them just to fuck with their heads. They are incredibly sadistic. Basically they told each of them separately that if they would play along, then the other would be spared any torture or abuse for a full day. They both did it to save the other. The self debasement was part of the torture.

Volkov is ALWAYS fucking with Ben. Always. So I’m sure he has future plans to fuck with him even more in the future. He’s a bastard.

Lastly, the fate of Volkov and Dmitri is intentionally vague. The main story line will get there eventually. I have not publicly revealed what happens with either of them. Not yet. Sorry for the stuff I can’t answer. And sorry it took me so long to answer. Thank you for the ask.

and I have to say I love it sm?? yk what it makes me think of? The song I can’t help but wonder from epic the musical, where Telemachus and Odysseus (a father/son duo who haven’t seen each other in TWENTY years) finally meet again. And it’s like, giving Buggy and the ghost of Roger or smth.

First of all, thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed it 😁 and oh boy this one's got a kick... You shouldn't have brought up greek mythology AND buggy like I won't shut up ever after this.

I actually cried listening to the song while thinking about Buggy and Roger. It just fits too well. I want to point out a few lyrics that I thought fit like a glove:

"for twenty years, I never could outgrow you" I think its safe to say that Roger's death in Loguetown affected Buggy on a fundamental level. No one could handle watching their father's neck get sliced live. Something like that could never not change you. From the 20+ years that have passed since then, at least part of Buggy is still that 16 year old standing in that crowd, crying. He never fully outgrew Loguetown, and for the record I don't think Shanks did either (I couldn't not bring him up I'm sorry) The main difference is that they experienced very different Loguetowns... Buggy still had hope that Roger would somehow dodge death like he always had, because unlike Shanks he didn't understand why Roger would willingly go to his own death. However, as the one who left, Buggy suffered a lot less after their fight. That's not to say it wasn't hard to leave, or he wasn't sad about it (he cried a lot as he ran away from Shanks) But Shanks suffered a different way, from the whiplash he had from seeing Roger die AND losing his best friend on top of each other. He only expected one of those, and we know which one that was.

"i can't help but wonder (...) if I have your strength in me." Buggy has always been a character with deep self esteem issues. A part of that certainly comes from having Roger's legacy behind him. Roger was strong and smart beyond words, and Buggy definitely felt insufficient, like he couldn't reach that ideal. That's why there's a deep rooted jealousy in him towards Shanks, because he sees so much of Roger in him. This also mirrors Odysseus and Telemachus perfectly, because the son never reached his father's level of intelligence and strength by the end of the Odyssey. However, it is implied that he is on his way there, getting better and better as the story progressed. We see this with Buggy too, with his amazing talent of failing upwards. (I have to say, I don't think all of it can be accidental. Buggy is actually quite clever in his own way) Roger's soul must be watching with pride, but not surprise. I have no doubt in my mind that Roger truly believed Buggy would make it big one day. The kind of trust only a parent could have in their children.

"used to say I'd capture wind and sky for you" Not much to say here but Roger would definitely say something like this. There's not a single thing that man wouldn't have done for his boys. I'm so normal about them haha 😅 ...Also more on the Roger and Odysseus parallels, there's just something so beautiful about a man who chooses his family over and over again, no matter how many good options keep presenting themselves. Like, nothing in the world could get in the way of him and his child no matter what. The similarity just hurts. And even though Roger couldn't live to do that for Ace, at least he experienced fatherhood with Shanks and Buggy.

Your thoughts on the Identity Switch

Thanks to you…. I now really like Norton. I used to hate him because I have a vendetta against people taller than my 4’11 self but now I love him.

on another note, what are your thoughts on the Identity switch system? Looking more into Norton’s background specifically makes me wonder why Norton gets a hunter form. What does this represent? I know that there’s a lot of drugs involved but I always interpreted it as them unlocking a new personality or smth, one more attune to following the manor’s games and supervising it (hunter) and like the other just trying to leave (survivor). I’ve been so interested in Norton’s lore lately that now I’m in an existential rabbit hole in how survivors get hunter forms, why that is, and if it’s like some sort of curse or punishment. Why are these survivors getting hunter forms?

soooo many questions, IK. But like reading your theories and analysis at 3Am is my serotonin. As a new player purely interested in the game for its lore I am just excited to know more but can’t wrap my head around all these weird concepts cause, again, I’m new. Also if I spend the next hour reading more of your analysis I will not sleep so therefore I need to preface my curiosity with a timed endeavor. My question probably do3snt make sense but like uhhh yeaaaaa. You should totally make something on your thoughts on identity switch (especially for the survivors gone hunters) cause I am too far in deep into the Norton-Campbell-Fool’s-Gold-Alternate-personality rabbit hole.

Ah, it makes me happy to think a nobody like me can turn your thinking around on someone. Especially Norton since he was 1 of the main reasons I got started with the lore at all. I'm someone who usually plays a game based on how interesting the story or characters are, so I was interested in learning about idv's lore soon after I joined (had to take quite awhile to figure out the basics of the game and what all the various buttons were, then take some more time to get used to it before I could even get started with the lore). Was the main reason why I went looking to join places like Discord or Reddit, just so I could find people talking about the story.

Started by just understanding what I could about what people said, but then I eventually moved on to trying to understand at least the basics of everyone's backstories (once again, took me awhile to do that ^_^; Especially as I joined before we were getting all that much story at all). While I was doin this, I heard a lot of people saying bad stuff about some character named Norton. Have to admit I didn't know who he was for quite awhile. Wasn't in my radar. Can't even say I cared much for him. But I eventually got to the point where I basically decided I wanted to see if I could determine if Norton really was that bad or not (maybe as a challenge to myself, maybe because I wanted to find out myself rather than just hearing other's opinions, or maybe because I failed to find anything really in-depth about him).

That analysis took a ridiculous amount of time. In part because I ask too many questions, because I'm a perfectionist and wanted to look at every bit of info on him and detail on him, but also somewhat because I ended up writing this like a persuasion piece, and felt the only way to do that was by going through everything to back up my conclusion (whatever my research turned up). Which was also why I analyzed every single essence he had a skin in, as well as any skins not in an essence, his accessories, emotes, etc... It was during that process I actually got attached to Norton. Probably because of how long I spent going through him (no one needs to know how long it took... only the immense joy and desire to collapse I had when I finally finished).

Since then, I've rewritten his analysis... 3 times now I think? Counting after hunter norton's release? Though I've taken down that 1st version due to issues, and haven't reposted my essence analyses as they're old (they were pretty much the 1st analyses I wrote, and I'd like to think I've improved since then) as well as because they're based on the 1st version of my norton analysis... and because they're probably a bit needlessly long and thus embarrassing... Maybe I'll repost them once I get around to rewriting them. I definitely will eventually at least for Soul Catcher's and Magic Item Keeper's essence because I have to say they took longer than almost any other part of that original (complete) norton analysis (i can never forget the trouble they caused me over how long it took to understand them).

ANYWAYS! Ignoring my stupid rambling because who cares about any of that.

I was going to include my answer to your question about Identity Switches but it’s starting to become a little silly in length ^_^; (seriously, for those who know me well enough, I have a bad habit of writing more than I initially intended to once I get started) so I’ll make that a separate post for you, and you can let me know if it answers your questions (once I post it). If not, feel free to ask any more of your questions.

Honestly, the lore is confusing even to those who aren’t new players, so don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t wrap your head around a lot of this ^_^;

It’s hard for me to imagine my stuff is so good people are willing to read it, much less re-read it. Especially as I know people tend to prefer… shorter things, but I have tendency to be lengthy. I can’t help it though ;’) But thank you so much for the compliment.

And please, I’m still pretty new to Tumblr, so I’m still figuring all this out myself.

Hi there! I just got into your au, and usually I really, really genuinely do not like oc's that are in canon. And it always takes me so many tries to get into it because it just seems so fun, however there's smth about it that I just never like and nothing ever works out? Came across your au, read first chapter and I was already in it. Read everything in one night, EXACTLY my cup of tea and I just don't understand? You added something, I don't exactly know what but I sure am loving it!

And the one-shots are my second favourite part! Nice to read, have a fun adventure in it (or gut-wrenching angst) and it's just so well written, having zero problems with following along. On the last chapter, in the comment section, you mentioned that you were gonna do a one-shot next. So if I may, could we get a small preview? Nothing big and if you don't want to or it's meant to be more surprise-like then, no need, no pressure!

I don't think I added anything so much as...took something away. See, what a lot of people do with OC insert fics is that they essicially make their OC the main character. There is nothing wrong with that, of course, but the issue is that you're going to have a lot of people not want to read it within a few paragraph.

Because, simply put, we read fanfiction to read about an established cast and world. Even if a fic isn't focused on the main characters we still see that main cast as a large part of the plot and, thus, if a fic is focused on a minor character, it's like watching a sidekicks filler episode. It's why I only have 4 out of 54 chapter from Chula POV in the main story of Hunter and Turtles. I wanted to keep her as a side character so I could keep the feeling of the fic being like another season from the show....but with more bloodshed and angst exploration.

That isn't a hard rule, of course. The One-Shot Series starts with a Chula POV chapter and most of those one-shots are from her POV but I always intended that one to be mostly for me to write whatever I wanted and to roll with it (notice the number of non-canon shots in that). And I wrote my Mutant Mayhem fic from an OC's POV because I tried with a few other perspective and his was the best choice. Even then, I tried to keep him as an outsider to the main cast instead of front loading the fic with his life story or something like that.

As for the One-Shot thing. I want to do some Canon One-Shots with Leo and Chula before I start posting the third Arc for the series. Mostly because Arc Three is going to be....quite a shift and there are some one-shots that a few readers have been excited to see. It's a lot easier to crank out some short, single chapter stories when I don't have to juggle all the heavy main plot stuff at the same time.

And since you've left such a wonderful ask in my Inbox....yeah, I can do a lil preview for one of the one-shots under construction.

Chula had been gone too long.

The thought had flitted through his a few times over that last couple of hours but when the sun started to go down, it became a mantra.

When they landed on this planet, Chula had passively mention that she was going to find some work for a few extra cdit while the ship refueled and cooled down. And Leo hadn’t bat an eye at that because Chula did that a lot, ventured onto planets for some day-labor for some extra cash in her pocket.

Leo didn’t mind staying on the ship to wait for her to come back….and since she hadn’t called him out for occasionally sneaking off she didn’t know he’d sometimes explore a little.

But she didn’t ever stay gone the entire day. The longest she’d ever been gone was nine hours and even that time she’d stomped into the ship grumbling about contractors underselling the job to try and give her less money.

But it had been easily past that at this point and Leo was worried. And she wasn’t answering her comm. Either. Sure, she didn’t always have time or signal but Leo was pretty sure she’d find a way to reassure him if he tried to call ten times.

But he hadn’t heard a peep.

So he grabbed his hood, opened a picture of Chula on his tablet and ventured into the settlement.

I really wanna play final fantasy but I'm a little bit intimidated by the amount of games.

absolutely understandable but lemme tell you, its harder to get into fate universe than FF HSHDHS

every FF game is a story in its own, meaning you dont really have to play certain games before to understand smth. theres just always some same summons popping up (shiva, ifrit, bahamut, etc) or certain "mascots" everyone knows (chocobos, moogles, cactuar,...), every game has its own cid etc etc. the stories or characters tho are always different and not connected w other parts (in dissidia the protags all band together tho, it was the hypest i felt when i saw them all in the trailer i can still feel it UGHHHHH)

some games have more parts tho or spin offs (FFVII and crisis core, dirge of cerberus, etcetc; FFX, FFXIII etcetcetc) so obv there u would have to play at least the first to kinda understand the continuation

anw im babbling sorry, im just v excited about it. long story short, FF looks intimidating (16 main games so far w tons of other games like dissidia, wof, T-0 ...) but its actually easy to get into it. if u need help or recs or whatever, absolutely feel free to ask!!

On the topic of localization differences, that's honestly one of the most frustrating things cause there's a legit discussion and criticism to be had about how localization sometimes changes character motivations and story elements to be much more different from the original source material, like the aforementioned Treehouse changing Eddie's dialogue to be more anti-heroic. But it gets shut down by people who think any criticism towards localization is the second coming of Gamergate, due to bad faith actors posting reactionary videos and posts about how "woke translators" are ruining Japanese media.

And while I can't speak on whether or not they did change some of Eddie's dialogue because I know little about how she is in the japanese version of 3H (except that Teaspoon's translation shared that in chapter 2 she said "Take as much [students] as you can with you" by something with replacement or smth ?) I know that whenever someone try to speak about the change they did to Fates they usually get mocked for trying to defend the game that lets you marry Sakura and Elise because "had localization not added some lines to removed the implications it would have been terrible, never mind that they still let you marry them anyway !!" And like I said people complain about the face petting mini game being removed when again they let the lines they say when you complete said mini game...

So yeah, stuff like that, and I am expecting it to be the same with Engage because I keep hearing people complain about the English dub which makes me scared cause like it's been a while since I played Engage with English dub but I recall it was fine ? Anyway yeah, because of the bad faith actors that keep insisting that "localization saved us from marrying Anna" when again, you do not marry her in the jpn version or "marrying Veyle" which again, you do not marry in the jpn version, you are gonna have people say it "saved Engage and it's character" when it. did. not. Treehouse rewrote entirely some character's personality such as Etie, missed out about some character's behaviour being caused by their past such as Louis, removed some lines in the MAIN STORY, added some wordlbuidling element that aren't necesarrily what the writers wanted such as them precising the bandits Céline excuted were from Firene when in the jpn version she never says where they are from etc. And like I said, while there can be changes approved of by IS and in the case of 3H, IS and KT themselves, that are KINDA hard to imagine they were ok with cause like, why would they be ok with the localization rewriting some story part they had month to come up with ? OR change a character's personality ? Or, even more useless, change Fogado's dislike for swimming in a disliking for fishing (why even change that ?!)

Anyhow, like I always say and as frustrating as it can be : localization is just a translation among others. It's the official translation so we can't descredit it in anyway but that doesn't make side translation invalidate. The only way that make a translation bad is : 1) when the meaning is so completely different that it feels like you are reading a completely different text from the original 2)when it lacks of fluidity in the target language. Translation and localization are hard, but that doesn't excuse some of the suff Treehouse did in the past and that they do now. While there are stuff that you cannot come at them after, there are stuff that you SHOULD come at them after.

6. If you could remake any movie or adapt any story you wanted, which would you pick and how would your dream cast look like?

Oh god I didn't think that one would get picked immediately 😅 Welp, let's see.

I've always wanted to see a big budget movie adaptation of Goethe's Faust (Part 1)((because Part 2 is an LSD trip that nobody wants to deal with)).

Everything else goes under the cut because this is going to be a long af post.

Quick synopsis because I am not sure if people outside of Germany know this one.

So basically Faust is a play by German writer and poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

It's about Dr. Faust who is just this super smart guy (who is also a dick) that is getting bored with life and wants to know just everything. Coming to the scene is Mephisto (or Mephistopheles) - the/a devil that makes a deal with our dear doctor. The devil will give him everything he wants but as soon as the doctor is satisfied with his life Mephisto gets his soul and way down they go. Also Faust is really into a girl/young woman (I can't remember) named Gretchen who is a sweet, good person and sooo not in his age range but Mephisto is his magical, hellish wingman so things happen.

There is also some fucked up borderline if not fully SA shit happening which I would like to mention but not put into the adaptation because dear god no.

There have been adaptations that have heavily leaned on the homoerotic subtext between Faust and Mephisto which of course I would too.

(also Mephisto turns into a black poodle. which then sparked a whole German saying/colloquialism but that's not important)

So yes I would like to adapt that because I used to be obsessed with this play when I was an edgy teenager.

To my cast: I am only going to do the two main dudes and Gretchen here because I forgot like half of the people that are otherwise important.

Gretchen: Mia Wasikowska

I am not sure if she does acting anymore but either way. She's so talented and able to play up both the innocence of the character but also her strong sense of morality and her later ensuing madness. I think she would do great in that role.

Dr. Faust: Oscar Isaac

Is anyone surprised I would cast Oscar in smth? No? Good. Oscar has a huge range and we know he is good at playing an asshole. And dear god is Faust a dick. Very arrogant (I mean he thinks he can trick the devil) and a little asocial. Imagine Nathan Bateman but make it the 1800s.

Mephistopeles: Willem Dafoe

I mean this man would have so much fun playing a shitty, sly devil. Tbh I just want to see more stuff with Willem Dafoe in it because I just find him delightful. Also him and Oscar would be a joy to watch on screen. (have they worked together before? can't remember)

So yeah this is my very short, definitely not way too long answer 😅

ALSO!! What are your fav oc x canon ships..... I love canon characters ships but idk there's smth special about doing it with your ocs yk and you said oc x canon is your fav thing in the world.....so true.....

Ps: I started working on my own oc's info (voicelines n stuff) and it's so hard to write other characters in a way they're not too ooc or different from canon ouch 🥹

wow youre flustering me here anon. wuya rlly is always on my mind, esp since i draw and roleplay him on occasion with friends. he isn't a self insert or a yume, but he does hold a lot of deeply personal topics within his character. and has aspects of myself and my personality within his writing and profile.

and uhmm i have some!!

wuya really likes kalim's company and energy. he loves jade's genuine interest and appreciation for nature. he thinks rook is hilarious, and goes out of his way to taunt and play " cat and mouse " with him.

my main ship with wuya is with floyd ( a ship my friend group has taken to calling floya or floyer ). it's a pairing ive given a lot of thought to, and i've dove pretty deeply into the dynamic and chemistry there. i don't ship a lot usually as is since i'm so particular about these things. but i actually made a pretty neat little chart for characters and how wuya feels about them in general: here.

i LOVE oc x canon.

when i was pretty young, and did actively join and counted myself part of fandoms in general-- i was met with a lot of negativity for it. i'm so happy to see oc x canon is a lot more accepted and encouraged now. and because of my own experiences i really push and support people who wanna do what they wanna do. so what if you ship your funky little brain child with your favorite character? it isn't hurting anyone, and it's just another way to show you love and appreciate that character.

lastly, yes. it is hard. i consider myself pretty good at it, i've got a lot of rp experience under my belt. and i do think i've developed a skill for reading particular sorts of characters, and capturing their canon well. it's always a challenge, but in the end so long as you're happy with how it sounds... i think that's all that matters.

I don't know if you've answered this already but what's the story behind Amelia?

ok! essentially, she grew up as a childhood star on a hit tv show. she was a lovable little tot & she became even more lovable as a kid. amelia always played the “teacher’s helper” sort of kid character, even in shows outside of her main hit show. as she grew into a teenager, especially in her late teenage years (17-19), show offers grew more scarce and she turned to hardcore partying to cope with the fact that she was losing part of herself (acting was all she was, in her eyes). through partying she ended up hooked on certain drugs. there was a really rough night with an event that i’m not sure i want to get into (sort of mirrors my own experience with smth so i will just let it be vague) but after that night she decided her days in hollywood were over & she wanted to commit to sobriety from drugs. i think the reason she was rlly shunned was just bc the “teacher’s pet” archetype sort of faded out of style and she wasn’t good at acting out any other character because that was her. she was the straight & narrow kid (until the ragers). so she moved back in with her parents (who had moved from california to new mexico to help with irrelevant family stuff).

so she’s there, she’s in new mexico, she’s decided to try online college classes because she’s far too afraid of making friends & partying & ruining her life. she’s back on the straight and narrow. things go well, a year or two passes and she decides to get her own place because she’s miss independent! she feels in control of her life again. amelia buys a place with a roommate but her roommate sort of skips out on her to join a commune. no big deal! she’s miss independent. she puts out fliers & ads for roommates and interviews numerous people before jesse turns up. they fit well enough so he becomes her roommate.

in terms of jobs, she currently works as a small town news reporter so she hasn’t completely abandoned television. she refuses to report on cases involving drugs (less for jesse & more for her own sake) and mostly sticks to pop culture updates. she’s doing pretty good for herself all things considered!

off topic but i think if she were to compose a kin list it wld have annie edison from community & courtney from tdi at the top.
