Loki was walking around New York City, scouting Stark Tower making sure the final preparations of his plan was perfect when something, or rather someone, caught his eye.
She walked out of what looked like a women’s clothing store with a forlorn smile. She was plumper than the average female Midgardian last time he frequented the realm. His eyes did not miss the enticing curves that lied beneath her clothes despite her efforts to ensconce herself into the background.
She was a vision.
Her eyes met his for the briefest of moments and it felt like time stopped. His heart quickened in his chest and a rush of blood surged to his groin.
He had to follow her. His Elskan.
“Barton, tell the others I’ll be out for a few more hours. Proceed as planned.”
–––––
He found you entering a rather destitute apartment complex. Its lights and foundation were a bit unsound and gave off a seedy ambience.
Loki grimaced at her living conditions. When he ruled Midgard, she would have only the best.
Casting a simple concealment spell, Loki entered her fairly small apartment. She began mixing ingredients together for what looked to be ‘chocolate chip cookies’. He smiled as he inhaled the sweet aroma knowingly; Asgard had only recently started consuming the sweet. She soon laid out a batch of thick, scrumptious cookies with a satisfied expression.
They reminded him of better times when he and Thor would sneak into the kitchens and swipe confections from under the baker’s nose. Loki chuckled at the memory; those were the days.
Not ten minutes after she placed the last cookie onto the cooling rack did her phone ring. It was her mother. Loki felt dread coming off his Elskan in waves.
Loki could only make out bits and pieces of the conversation, if you could call it that. Her mother constantly nagged her about her weight, life choices, and her ‘pathetic’ attempts to get over her ex-boyfriend. His heart broke as he saw tears begin to fall and the croaking of her voice as she bid the odious creature goodnight.
Several minutes after she cried herself to sleep, Loki entered his Elskan’s bedroom. He spied her diary on the nightstand and decided to read a few pages.
He was fuming within two minutes.
How dare that caustic pig sow treat his Elskan, her own daughter, in a such ghastly manner! Her ‘perfect’ sister always slighting and reminding her on how ‘she’ll never be good enough for anything’ and her father’s callous indifference to her cries for help and solace only added to his rage. Combined with the way her ex-boyfriend, the repugnant gnat, treated her (he cheated on her with someone who ‘wasn’t built like a blimp’ and ‘the only thing you thing you had going for you were your tits’) and he wanted to speed up the invasion just to watch the horror become engrained onto their faces.
And yet, she endeavored to treat everyone with kindness harkening back to your grandmother. She strived to be the one light in one’s otherwise miserable existence.
Well, she can be his light as his Elskan and Queen.
Loki took a deep, cleansing breath. He needed to stick to the plan. When he conquers Midgard, she will be their queen. She will grace the undeserving masses with her elegance and beauty and he will worship her every chance he got.
He just had to make her see it that way.
Gently, the light forest green glow of Loki's magic flowed from his hand to the crown of her head like a halo. He leaned in and kissed her cheek with a smile as he left.
He hated to leave her, but he had a realm to conquer. Though he hoped she’d enjoy the introductory gift.
––––––
You were in your grandmother’s living room; spacious yet comfy with all of her quirkiness and splendor included. It was odd since you haven’t been in her house since your parents sold after her death seven years ago. You tearfully smiled remembering all the good times you had with her, the only member of your family you gave you any true warmth or love.
Her piano was in the corner, barely aged a day with all the music sheets, pens, a light scratches you came to know and love. You took your seat and started to play the piano version of one of your favorite movie themes.
You were so engrossed in playing, you failed to notice someone materializing into your dreamscape.
“What a lovely tune! What is it called?” A smooth, honey-tinged voice broke your concentration.
You turned your head and saw what had to be the most beautiful man you’ve ever seen. He was tall (6’ 10” / 2.08m) easily towering over any man you’ve ever met. He had smooth alabaster skin, light rose undertones with a little blue-red just under his eyes. His cheekbones were immaculate, somehow looked sharp and soft at the same time. He had thin lips with a fair plumpness to the bottom one. His slicked-back, shoulder-length Ponzu/Shadow Purple hair kissed his lean, battle-hardened physique (if the way he’s filling out his outfit was anyway to go by). All of this deliciousness was clothed in a casual Palm Green suit with a Glossy Black tie and shoes.
It took you a full minute to stop ogling him, “Wha-What did you say?”
“I apologize for disturbing you, my lady. I asked what you were playing.” His voice had hints of mirth which was odd considering his appearance. Most people in his league would give you a thinly veiled sneer of disgust, but he seemed genuinely interested.
“Um, well, it’s called Merry-Go-Round of Life from the movie Howl’s Moving Castle. It’s a favorite of mine. I used to play it all the time until…” You trailed off, not wanting to revisit how your grandmother died.
“You do not have to tell me if it brings you such displeasure.”
“Thank you, um…”
“Loki. Please, call me Loki.”
“Loki,” he inwardly moaned at the way you said his name, “Nice to meet you.”
“Likewise. Please, continue playing.”
And you did for what felt like hours, all while your sexy dream companion asked about your hopes, dreams, anything he could think of really. You in turn asked him about his life and interests; you even laughed at a story of his brother having to dress like a bride to get his hammer back.
You soon became enamored with Loki. It was refreshing to be noticed with actual interest, not ridicule or pity. He seemed to taken with you as well, if his gentle caresses and not-so-subtle lustful glances he gave you were any indication.
You were glad this was just a dream. You didn’t want your heart to break like last time.
Loki was about to lean in for a kiss when everything faded to black.
–––––
You jolted up from the mattress and screamed once you realized you weren’t in your room.
No, this room was…spectacular for lack of better word. It had high ceilings, large windows, ornate chandeliers, and magnificent balcony. Luxurious dark greens, gold, and black covered the room in splendor. Extravagant pieces of furniture dripped with precious stones metal worthy of queens or royal mistresses of old.
“What is this place?”
You tried to leave but was forced back onto the bed by a force field. You tried to take calm breaths just like your therapist taught you in order to make an escape plan.
No sooner did you calm down than the door open to reveal-
“Loki!”
Only Loki was wearing radically different clothing; looked like he walked right out of a fantasy epic. And yet, his smile was enchanting.
“What am I doing here? I need to go back home.”
He tutted in response, “That would not be wise, Elskan Mín. This world is mine now and this is safest place to be.” He was right. His brother’s team of desperate souls were no match for his cunning and Chitauri Forces. Midgard’s pathetic leaders gave up in less than an hour once their beloved ‘heroes’ were defeated, broken, and laid bare before them.
“You can’t be serious, Loki. I need to leave.”
“And go where? Like I said, this realm is mine now. That rat poison of a dwelling is no more and I have dealt with your ‘family’ as needed.” Loki smirked at the memories. It gave him extreme joy squeezing the life out of that worthless pig of mother, breaking every bone in your father’s body one by one, and leaving your ‘perfect’ sister alive with partially rotten skin. Not even the scavengers or maggots would find or want the remains of the scurvy insect of an ex-boyfriend, though he was still alive..just barely.
Well, at least until he decided on how to destroy the blight of creature.
Though he did make sure to leave two of your real friend were treated well. You needed to have someone to talk to while he was away.
You gazed into his Spearmint colored eyes in one last attempt, “Please Loki! If you love me, you’ll let me go!”
For a split second, you could’ve sworn you saw hurt in his eyes and he glided across the room. You back hit the headboard in you sad efforts to get away from him.
“Elskan Mín, I promise to always love, cherish, and worship every part of your glorious body. You will become Midgard’s queen and my goddess. No. One. Will. Ever. Demean. Or. Slight. You. Again.” he punctuated each word of the last sentence with soft, open-mouthed kisses to your face, neck, shoulders, and collarbone.
You tried to fight him, but it felt so good. His touches sent shots of lightning to your core; plus his lips and fingers were cook to the touch provided excellent contrast to the spike in heat.
You started crying realizing how pathetic this was, to have the first person to profess such feelings be a kidnapper. You were actually contemplating whether or not he was telling the truth.
Loki sensed your sorrow and kissed your tears away. “I know this might be ‘difficult’ at first, but you will love me in time.” He hoped he did not have to use the scepter.
You thought about your dream and all of the effort he was putting into this. It was frightening, but it came from a place of love.
Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to stay.

It was no secret within the Avengers team that the newly-appointed Avenger Wanda Maximoff had a crush on the also newly-appointed Avenger Vision. However, there was only one problem with that, and it was that Vision had a girlfriend, Y/N Y/LN, who had been an Avenger for a couple years now.
No one really said that to Wanda because she was still grieving over her lost brother Pietro, but that didn’t mean she didn’t find out.
In fact - she did. In one of the worst ways someone could find out, might I add.
Wanda was in the training room, practicing her powers, and Y/N had entered, looking to get a few good punches in at the punching bag. She stopped, though, when she saw the redhead - she wasn’t too older than Wanda was and was hoping she could be friends with her. Maybe now was her chance.
“Wow, that looks epic,” Y/N commented, slightly in awe of her abilities.
Wanda jumped, surprised, and unintentionally her powers whipped around to hit Y/N, suddenly giving Wanda a peek into her mind.
What Wanda saw shocked her. Memories dripped in smiles and laughter of various memories of Y/N and Vision head over heels for each other. After a couple moments, Wanda stopped, and stared at Y/N, heartbroken, while Y/N shared back at her, a bit dazed.
“You and Vision are dating?” Wanda asked, her voice cracked.
Y/N opened her mouth but no words came out. She was still trying to make sense of what happened and on one side, she felt a little violated that her memories had been seen, but on the other she understood that Wanda didn’t mean to reach into her memories and spy.
“Why didn’t anyone tell me?! Were you all going to let me fall for Vision forever?” Wanda continued, her voice rising, taking a step towards Y/N as her tears threatened to spill.
“We knew you were in pain, Wanda-” Y/N started to try and explain, catching up, but was cut off when Wanda blasted her powers at her and slammed her into the wall. Wanda’s red energy blasts wrapped around Y/N as binds, keeping her in place feet above the floor.
“Do not pity me,” Wanda said, continuing to walk towards Y/N. Her hurt from finding this out was getting the best of her, and she moved her hands, making Y/N yell as pain started to consume her. Wanda tried to be firm in her voice but it was undeniably a little shaky.
Vision, having heard the yell, immediately stopped whatever he was doing and headed towards where he heard it - the training room. The robot practically burst inside and his eyes widened to see Wanda harming his love.
Vision glanced from Wanda, who was angry and crying, to Y/N, who was squirming, trying to get out of the binds, and still in pain.
“Wanda, let her go,” Vision said calmly but with force, trying to defuse the situation verbally.
Wanda didn’t seem to hear him and another cry came from her, which made more of her powers eject towards Y/N. Vision, without thinking, jumped in front to protect his girlfriend, and when Wanda saw him, she got startled and dropped her arms, stopping her powers before they hurt Vision and releasing Y/N.
Vision sent Wanda a small, grateful look and turned his attention to Y/N, who stumbled. Vision immediately gathered her in his arms and secured her before turning around and carrying Y/N to the living room and putting her on the couch.
“Vision . . . ” Y/N said a little weakly, reaching out to take his hand as he sat down next to her. Vision smiled and wrapped an arm around her, pulling her close.
“Are you alright, darling? Are you in pain?” He asked very sweetly, his voice filled with warmth.
Y/N shook her head no, burying it in Vision’s shoulder. “Not anymore,” she murmured.
Vision nodded. Despite his concern for her still lingering, he decided not to push her on it because he could tell that she was tired out.
“Vision?” Y/N said after a moment, picking her head up and looking at him in wonder.
Vision hummed, indicating for her to continue, and looked at her like she was the most precious thing in the world - in his eyes, she was. He thought she looked so adorable and cute, like she always, and his heart smiled.
“You jumped in front of me to protect me . . . I just . . . It’s insane to think that someone would do that for me,” Y/N said, her voice quiet but her eyes wide as she let that sink in.
Vision smiled, although a bit sadly because of course he would do anything for  her, he would go to the ends of the world for her, how could she not know that? and ran a hand through his girlfriend's hair in a comforting manner.
 “Well, darling, I suppose . . . I suppose I just feel you,” he said.
Y/N smiled, titling her head to the side, and leaned forward to press a kiss to his forehead, leaning her head against his shoulder again. They cuddled for a few minutes until Vision remembered something and had an idea.
“Y/N, didn't you mention the other day that you wanted to show me a movie?” Vision asked. Since he was a robot, he knew what a movie was, but had never actually seen one.
Y/N sat up, gasping in excitement before giggling, and nodded. “Yes! I’ll get it set up!” That quickly her energy had returned and she hopped up, grabbing the remote and going to Netflix before finding a classic - The Wizard of Oz.
Vision watched her, a grin on his face. When she came back and the movie started playing, Vision wrapped his arm around her again as they both turned their attention to the movie.
Throughout the movie, Vision had quite a bit of commentary.
“Woah! A lion.”
“So Glinda’s having Dorothy to her dirty work?”
“And the Wizard too! He’s a coward.”
“You should be giving yourself courage, not the lion.”
“Oh. It was a dream?”
Y/N giggled throughout the movie but thoroughly enjoyed it, feeling at home.

A Bit of Rough
Whumptober day 3: manhandled
“Move it, Jaskier.” Geralt’s hand closed around Jaskier’s arm and yanked him to one side. He stumbled in the mud and scowled at the state of his boots, but he did avoid the oncoming cart bearing down on them along the narrow road.
-
“Down!” Jaskier barely had time to register the word before Geralt pushed him to his knees. He felt his hair ruffle as the the bruxa swiped her claws through the air where he had just been standing.
-
“We’re leaving now.” That was all the warning Jaskier got before Geralt put an arm around his waist and threw him over his shoulder like an unruly sack of potatoes. He gasped and beat Geralt’s back ineffectually with his fists, but they were already walking away from the tavern and the lovely barmaid keeping it warm and back towards their camp.
-
“Quiet!” Geralt shoved Jaskier up against a wall. Jaskier’s head bounced on the cold stone and he opened his mouth to argue, but Geralt boldly slapped a leather-gloved hand across his mouth, muffling him completely.
“Mppphhh!” Jaskier objected.
Geralt glared at him. “We need to be quiet,” he leaned in close to whisper, “or the duke’s men will find us.”
“Mmph,” Jaskier sulked.
The storage room was tiny and dark, but it did have the admitted advantage of being unobtrusive in such a large, opulent castle. There was just enough light to see the glint of Geralt’s eyes, and the darkness heightened his other senses until the sound of their heavy breathing and the feel of Geralt‘s warmth on his skin was almost overwhelming.
Geralt raised one eyebrow. “If I remove my hand, will you be good?”
He pulled his hand back enough for Jaskier to gasp in a huge breath, ready to start a quite epic rant about the audacity of being manhandled in such a fashion. But Geralt knew him too well, and before he had a chance to even get started, the leather of his glove was slapped back onto his mouth.
“That’ll be a no then,” he smirked.
Jaskier wanted to scowl, but his senses were full of the taste of leather on his tongue and the heat of Geralt’s chest against his own. It was all most terribly distracting and made him light headed and pliant.
He shifted against the cold wall, trying to catch his breath, but Geralt just crowded closer, slotting their legs together so he could feel every firm inch of his musculature. He breathed through his nose and tried to pretend this wasn’t affecting him in the slightest, like his body wasn’t reacting to this proximity in a most unhelpful manner.
Any time he tried to fidget, Geralt pressed closer still, pinning him against the wall entirely, and he couldn’t keep in the tiny gasp which escaped when their hips rolled together.
“Oh, Jaskier,” Geralt breathed, and there was a hint of a tease to it, “If you can’t keep yourself quiet, we’ll have to find some other way to occupy your mouth.”
He leaned in until his lips were brushing against Jaskier’s ear, sending a shiver up his spine. “Any ideas?”

I know I’ve posted this one before, but what the hell. It’s Johnny and one of my favs :D
-o-o-o-
John Tracy was sick.
Which meant John Tracy wasn’t allowed to go home.
Sure, he could say that he was home, but it didn’t really feel like home. It was full of brothers and people he loved, but it didn’t feel like home.
Home was among the stars.
But apparently astronauts with the flu weren’t allowed to go home.
“It won’t be for long, John. It will be over before you know it.” Virgil was kind and reassuring, but it didn’t really help.
He wanted to go home.
He was determined to work, of course. Until Scott caught him and cut him off.
There were some loud words over that, but the medical department of IR (aka Virgil) sided with the command department (aka Scott) and yeah, he was grounded, cut off from his ‘bird, holed up in his room and miserable.
Of course, his brothers attempted to cheer him up. Alan dumped himself on his bed chattering away with his latest game, all eager enthusiasm. Gordon brought him a pet crab. Even cared for it for him. John was left wondering if it was a snarky metaphor as the crab sat under a rock all day and had a distinct grumpy appearance.
Virgil and Scott were more subtle, but no less caring. Scott ran ideas past him for communications improvements. Piano music and the occasional piece of art found its way into his rooms uninvited.
He appreciated it. Truly, he did.
He just wanted to go home.
The morning he woke up with a cat sleeping on his chest was the last straw.
“C’mon, guys. You know I’m allergic to cats. Are your trying to kill me?” He held the cat out at arm’s length just waiting for his nasal passages to swell up. Though at this point considering his condition, he wasn’t really sure he would notice.
The cat meowed pitifully at him.
Virgil frowned.
Scott arched an eyebrow.
Gordon looked guilty....but then he always looked guilty. John was sure it was an inbuilt survival strategy.
Alan was cooing at the cat and reaching out to scratch it under the chin.
It was an orange stripy thing with big whiskers and that ragdoll floppiness all cats sported.
“Gordon?” Scott’s arched eyebrow was now pointed at the aquanaut.
“What are you looking at me for? I got him the crab, why would I get him a cat? The cat will eat the crab.” Gordon frowned at John. “Don’t let the cat eat the crab.”
Not a sentence John had ever predicted hearing in his lifetime.
“Can someone please take this thing?” He held out the cat even further.
Virgil, still frowning, gently collected the cat from John’s hands and automatically curled it up in his arms. A finger scratched under its chin.
“Thank you. I’m going back to bed.”
And he did.
The next time he woke, a pair of green feline eyes were staring at him, the cat, once again, curled up on his chest.
What?
It meowed at him and poked his nose with a paw.
“Virgil!”
He must have yelled a little too much because next minute his big brother barrelled into the room, panic on his face. “John, what the-?!”
His eyes landed on the cat and his shoulders literally sagged. “Goddamnit, that’s where you are. I’ve been looking for you for hours.” Virgil reached to pick up the cat.
The cat turned from mild mannered bed companion to spitting and screeching demon within a blink. Virgil yelped and fell backwards, his feet slipping on the mat and his butt hitting the floor with a crash.
One of John’s telescopes teetered before tipping ever so slowly. Virgil saw it and struggled to catch it. “Shiiit!” He threw himself in its path and the four-foot metal cylinder landed in his lap.
There was an oomph and Virgil was flat on his back on the floor.
Demon cat kneaded John’s chest a little before settling once more.
It began to purr.
“Virgil? You okay?”
His brother grunted and John struggled out of bed, shoving the cat out of the way. “Virgil?”
“I’m good.” It was up an octave higher than normal. “Sorry about your telescope.”
John grabbed the telescope off his brother and righted it. It was his own fault for leaving it there in the first place. Stargazing from bed was a habit much more easily exercised on TB5.
Virgil waved off his offered hand and rolled over, pushing himself to his feet with another grunt. He eyed the cat with suspicion. “I thought we had an understanding, Bagel.”
The cat eyed Virgil with equal suspicion.
“Bagel?”
“Gordon claims it is your cat so needs a John name.”
“A John name?”
“Yeah, Bagel it is.”
“It’s not my cat! And where did it come from anyway?” John frowned at Virgil. “Another stowaway on Two.”
“No! You know we have sensors for that now. And besides, that was only once.”
“Twice.”
“Once. The polar bear doesn’t count.”
“The polar bear most assuredly does count. Alan still hasn’t forgiven you.”
“Really?”
“It was a polar bear, Virgil.”
“Yeah, well, that is your cat.”
“That is not my cat.”
“Apparently she has decided she is yours.” Virgil held up his hands. Several scratches decorated his skin. “I have enough of these already. She’s yours.”
“I’m allergic.”
Virgil peered up at him, brown eyes assessing. “You don’t appear to be suffering a reaction. She’s been gone for hours. If she has been here, on your chest all that time, you should be showing the affects. All I can see is the remains of your flu.” A frown. “Are you feeling any better?”
It was John’s turn to frown. He had almost forgotten he was ill, but now his attention returned to his body, the signs were clear.
But he was feeling a little better.
“A little.”
Virgil reached up and squeezed his arm. “Good. You hungry?”
A brief consultation with his stomach and he realised that yes, he was. “Yes, I think so.”
A smile spread over his brother’s face. “Great. You’re on the mend.” Another squeeze of his arm and Virgil turned towards the door. “Meet you in the kitchen. Scott went all out this morning and made pancakes. I stashed you some. Gotta grab them before Gordon discovers them.”
“FAB.” John couldn’t help but return his brother’s smile.
Virgil grinned and with a half-hearted groan rubbed his butt and staggered with some exaggeration out the door. “Don’t forget your cat.”
John turned back to stare at the ginger monstrosity still sitting on his bed, calmly grooming.
“Bagel, is it?”
The cat blinked and kept licking its fur.
John sighed and grabbed his clothes.
-o-o-o-
The cat followed him downstairs for the meal, which turned out to be dinner. He had managed to sleep the day away. Apparently, this was a good thing, because for the first time in days, he could move without creaking.
Virgil had indeed stashed pancakes and within minutes there was a short stack piled up in front of him complete with ice cream and maple syrup. Before he even bothered to acknowledge the envy emanating from Gordon across the other side of the table, the stack began to disappear.
Scott knew how to make pancakes. John considered his big brother’s purpose in life and came to the immediate conclusion that it should be IR, family and pancakes.
Of course, pancakes could be a subset of family if considered that way, but there was always the possibility of him opening a business as a pancake chef.
Blink.
Yes, the flu had obviously taken part of his brain with it.
A pair of blue eyes and two pairs of brown were staring at him.
“What?”
“Did you bother to breathe between bites, bro?” Gordon gestured with his head at the table.
John looked down and found his plate empty. “Guess I was hungry. Scott makes great pancakes.”
“Yes, he does.” Virgil plonked a glass of orange juice in front of him and took away his sticky plate. “Now drink your juice and we’ll set up for family movie.”
“Aren’t you guys going to eat?”
“Already eaten.” Scott was poking at his phone, holograms bouncing around above it. “Grandma made meatloaf surprise again.”
John choked on his juice. “Really?”
“Uh-huh.” Scott did look a little green around the gills.
Well, that explained the envy on Gordon’s face and why Alan was very absent.
“Anyone feed the youngest?”
“All under control.” Virgil chucked Gordon a celery crunch bar and the aquanaut grabbed it from the air.
It was devoured faster than John’s pancakes.
Virgil wandered back into the kitchen proper and soon there was the delicious smell of hot popcorn wafting through the room. The engineer walked past the table again and dumped a chocolate bar in front of Scott. Another one landed in front of John.
“Consider it a survivor’s reward.” Virgil grabbed Scott’s phone out of his hand.
“Hey!”
“Stop working, this is family time. Everything can wait a couple of hours.”
Scott glared at his brother, but grabbed the chocolate bar and capitulated anyway.
Probably because he knew Virgil was right. It was so easy to get absorbed with International Rescue business. John knew he was a fantastic example case of such a syndrome.
A sigh.
Scott glanced up at him. “How are you doing, John?” A smirk. “How’s Bagel?”
As if beckoned, the cat in question suddenly leapt up on to the table and stalked the length of it towards Scott. John’s eyes widened as his eldest brother was targeted by a feline glare of epic proportions.
Scott’s expression was quite an amusing mixture and defiance and terror. Bagel sat down in front of him and after a moment of intense eyeballing decided Scott was boring and started washing herself.
“That is one weird cat, John.”
Everyone jumped as Bagel shot to her feet and dashed across the table at Gordon. “Holy crap!” The aquanaut scrambled backwards as Bagel ran at him. He tangled his feet in the stool he was sitting on and with a crash, ended up on the floor.
“Ow.”
Reaching the edge of the table, Bagel stopped and peered down at the fallen Thunderbird and, apparently deciding Gordon was no more interesting than Scott, sat down and returned to grooming.
The remaining three vertical brothers stared at each other and the cat.
No one said a thing.
“Uh, can someone give me a hand up, here?” Gordon vaguely waved an arm about and Virgil edged around the table to help his brother up.
His eyes barely left Bagel.
“Has anyone fed the cat?” John threw the question in there as a bit of an icebreaker since said cat had frozen the room almost solid.
Bagel looked up and stared at John for a moment before jumping to her feet and ambling over. A simple step off the table and she was in his lap, circling for moment to find a comfortable spot, then curling up and purring.
Again, everyone was staring at the orange fluff ball, John included.
“You have a very strange cat.” Apparently, Gordon hadn’t learnt from his earlier experience, but fortunately, Bagel ignored him this time.
John stared down at the purring ball of fur.
Yes, it seems he did.

Despite the possessed cat, the rest of the night went very well. All five brothers plus Kayo threw down some pillows, curled up in front of the holoprojector and waded through a trashy b-grade movie that looked like they were using mannequins for actors and plastic models for set pieces. There was popcorn, laughter and loving family. John felt warm and relaxed and better than he had in days. Somewhere between action scenes, he drifted off to the tinny soundtrack and the sound of his brothers criticising the special effects.
“Johnny?” It was whispered “Johnny, you’ve got to move or you’ll end up with one hell of a neckache.”
A blink and he found himself looking at Virgil upside down. Wha-?
“C’mon, bro. Up you get.” And his brother was lifting him up. Another blink and he realised he was lying on one of the couches...almost upside down, his feet at an angle above his head with his head hanging off the seat cushion. He was far too long for the piece of furniture and, apparently, he had stretched in his sleep.
Virgil was shifting his shoulders into a more horizontal position. Beyond him, the holoprojector was listing all the languages the movie was available in, complete with appropriate copyright warnings. Idly he noted that the Hungarian translation had an error in the third line.
John let his feet drop to the end of the couch before folding up enough to force himself upright. Ugh, Virgil was right. His neck cricked and creaked along with his spine. God, gravity was a nasty piece of work. It had also apparently dribbled all the mucus in his body into his head. His skull protested at the pressure as he sat up and he groaned.
“John?”
Why did everyone think Scott was the worry wart of the family? Virgil with his medical radar was just as bad, if not worse. “I’m fine. Just a head full of snot.” Ugh. Right between his eyeballs, throbbing to the beat of his heart. “Just kill me now.”
Suddenly there was an orange cat in his face, staring.
“What? Bagel, not now.” He gently picked up the cat and put her on the couch beside him. Where the hell had she come from anyway?
A pitiful meow was her response and she edged nearer brushing her cheek against his arm.
Despite himself, he turned to her. “What’s wrong?”
She looked up at him with a combination of adoration and haughtiness. He had no idea what to make of that expression.
Of course, she was a cat. Who understood cats?
“Are you two having a moment?” His brother’s smiling baritone broke the silence and to John’s surprise, Bagel turned to Virgil and hissed angrily.
His big brother took a hurried step back.
“Bagel! Leave him alone! He will never hurt you. For goodness sake, Virgil wouldn’t hurt a fly. Give him some respect.”
To his complete surprise, Bagel stopped hissing immediately. She turned to him almost a question on her face before once again looking at Virgil. Her head dropped and stared at the floor.
“What the hell?” It was little more than breath and all his big brother. Virgil was staring at Bagel, his brow crumpling into a deep frown.
Bagel’s head shot up and once again she was staring at Virgil.
Virgil’s frown got even deeper.
“John where did you get this cat from?”
“I told you, I don’t know. I’ve never seen her before in my life.”
Virgil continued his staring contest with the cat.
“What is it?” His brother’s expression was becoming unnerving, so suddenly determined, it was almost fierce.
“I don’t know.” A pause. Keep her out of sensitive areas for me, will you?”
“Sure.”
Bagel continued to stare at Virgil.
Virgil continued to stare at Bagel.
A solid moment passed and then his brother was shaking his head, looking at his feet, looking at John. “You good to make it up to your rooms?”
“Yeah.”
“I need to go hunt down Scott. One of the TI directors in the States forgot the time zones. He’s been on the phone for half an hour already.” Virgil sighed.
“Need backup?”
“No.” A hand dropped to John’s shoulder. “You go to bed, you need it. I’ve got this.” The hand disappeared and Virgil climbed out of the lounge, heading towards the balcony.
Bagel was licking her paw.
John sighed. Perhaps some paracetamol would help. “C’mon, Bagel, apparently, you’re with me.” He picked her up and held her against his chest as he staggered to his feet. Cursed gravity. How he missed being able to make the smallest movements and coast across a room.
Bagel reached her head up and snuggled under his chin, her purr vibrating his sternum.
“Why me?” It was little more than an exhaled breath and he wasn’t sure it was a complaint or an actual question.
In either case, Bagel didn’t answer. She just purred into his chest.
So, it remained a mystery for another night.
-o-o-o-
“It just appeared. No trace on sensors, nothing. It’s as if it didn’t exist before the day before yesterday.”
Virgil’s puzzled voice echoed up the stairs as John approached the kitchen the next morning. He glanced at his watch. This was early for his brother; he usually wasn’t up for another hour at least.
“I’m telling you, Scott, there is something very strange about that cat.”
John paused at the top of the stairs, his hands curled around Bagel, gently scratching her under the chin. He had awoken again with her on his chest, but unlike the previous two incidents, he had found himself surprisingly comforted with her presence.
Her purring was strangely calming.
“I will admit she is quite volatile.” Scott’s voice was surprisingly reluctant. “She didn’t even take to Gordon. Every living creature takes to Gordon. Except lizards, I guess. Hell, she doesn’t even like you.”
“That’s just it. She doesn’t act like a cat.”
“What, just because she doesn’t like you?”
“I’m sorry, Scott. Something just doesn’t feel right. Why is she so attached to John? What if she is a plant after our technology?”
“A tech seeking cat? Really?”
“Wouldn’t be the first time an animal has been used for espionage.”
Scott sighed and John shifted, attempting to loosen the tense muscles in his shoulders.
“It’s just that John appears to have latched onto Bagel as much as the cat has to him. How often does John attach to anybody?”
“And that’s what scares me the most. What happens when he returns to TB5? He can’t take a cat with him. It wouldn’t be safe for either of them.”
“Then we look after Bagel for him.”
It was Virgil’s turn to sigh and it was a worried one.
John chose that moment to make his entrance. He stepped lightly down the stairs. “You two really do worry far too much.”
Both brothers started as he entered. The guilty expressions on their faces were quite amusing.
“Virgil, if you are worried about Bagel, scan her.” John held the cat out to his brother. “Take her up to the infirmary and run her through a thorough physical. In fact, I would prefer if you did since as you said, I have become somewhat attached to her. As to what we are going to do when I return to Five...” He shrugged. “I hope we can work something out.”
Virgil managed to look both apologetic and sad.
To John’s astonishment, Bagel wriggled out of his grip and jumped down to the floor. She ambled over to Virgil. His brother froze, obviously wary, but the cat gently brushed up against his leg and rubbed the length of her body across his boots.
The whole room stared.
“Good morning, Bagel.” Virgil’s voice was a little breathless.
“Good morning, Virgil.” The whole room jumped as Brains jogged down the stairs and passing them, bee-lined for the fridge.
“‘Morning, Brains, John.” Gordon wandered in from the pool rubbing a towel through his hair. “Yaargh! What the hell, Virgil. You gone to the cat side?” He took several steps back as he caught sight of Bagel.
Bagel, still wrapped around Virgil’s ankles, turned towards Gordon and spat at him.
“That damn cat is possessed.” The aquanaut made sure the table was between him and the feline.
Bagel glared at him, following with her eyes.
“Eos, I know G-Gordon can b-be a challenge, b-but really, h-he is a good man.” Brains was pouring milk into his cereal on the bench.
“Yes, but he is so annoying.” The AI’s voice bounced across the house’s comm system.
“He st-still deserves r-respect.”
The comm system grunted.
Every eye in the room stared at the engineer.
Gordon found his voice first. “Wow, Brains, thanks.”
John was staring at Bagel. “Eos what do you know about Bagel?”
“Oh, John, everything.” The little imp was so smug.
Two strides and John was beside Virgil. Reaching down, he snagged Bagel off the floor and held her up, his eyes raking over the cat. A moment of intense examination. Bagel stared back at him calmly.
“Okay, how did you do it?”
“Do what, John?”
“Do not mess with me, Eos. I want answers and I want them now.”
“Hiram helped me.”
“Helped you do what?” Scott’s voice was sharp. “Brains?”
“It was a v-very interesting challenge.”
“What did you do, Brains?” Commander Tracy stood up from the table, his height saying everything it needed to.
Brains didn’t notice.
“Oh, Eos had an e-excellent idea to equip Thunderbird F-Five with an internal m-mobile probe mechanism.
“Yes, something that could get into the spaces John cannot.” Still smug. Oh, there would be some serious talking at a later time.
“So, you built a cat.” Virgil’s eyes were wide.
Brains sipped his orange juice, still seemingly unaware of the tension in the room. “She didn’t think I could. So, I did.” He was definitely pleased with himself.
“You built a cat?” Gordon was an echo of his brother. “That cat?” He stabbed a finger in Bagel’s direction.
“Yes?” Finally, the man appeared to realise that something was amiss. “I’m v-very happy with the r-results. It performs v-very well.”
It certainly did. John had her under his arm and found himself scratching her under her chin despite everything.
He forced himself to stop.
“John?”
“Yes, Eos?”
“Do you like her?” Suddenly he was a parent faced with his child’s school science project and the need for approval.
Some science project.
“I like her, Eos.”
“Can we keep her?”
“That is yet to be decided.” It came out firm. It needed to be firm...even though he already knew the answer.
“But-“
“Eos, why didn’t you tell us Bagel wasn’t really a cat?”
“But she is...”
“Eos.”
“John...”
“Eos!”
“I missed you.”
He froze. “I’m right here.”
“But it’s not the same.” That was a definite whine. “You’re not with me. It gets lonely up here without you. So, I built a way to be down there with you.” Bagel rubbed her cheek against his hand.
“Eos is in the cat?” Gordon’s jaw may as well have been on the floor. “She hates me that much?!”
“I don’t hate you, Gordon. You are quite funny. Somewhat clumsy, but funny.”
“Eos.”
“Yes, John?”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
No answer.
“Brains, why didn’t you tell us?” Commander Tracy was glaring at the engineer.
“T-Tell you what?”
“About Eos and the cat.”
“That would have r-ruined the experiment.”
“What?”
“Eos w-wanted to see if the f-feline programming was sufficient. The b-best way to do that was test it.”
“On us?” Gordon spouted outrage.
“Surprisingly only V-Virgil appears to have b-been concerned. I w-would be interested to hear your evaluation.”
“Sure.” Virgil appeared to still be processing. Probably attempting to work out exactly how Brains had pulled it off.
“Brains, you, Eos, John and I are going to have a serious conversation.” Scott’s voice was stern. “This is not happening again. This family is not an experimental lab.”
“It was not his fault, Commander.”
Scott arched an eyebrow up at the ceiling. “Really, Eos? I have no doubt that John has a few choice words to be said on this matter.” Oh, yes, choice and many. “In the meantime, please cease the experiment.”
“But-“
“Eos.”
“Very well.”
The cat in John’s arms went completely limp.
He couldn’t help it; a gasp passed his lips and he caught the sudden dead weight with both hands. “Eos!”
All life had left Bagel. She became nothing more than a lifeless corpse. Something inside him lurched horribly.
Every eye in the room was staring at him.
“John?” Virgil’s eyes flashed concern.
He gathered up the cat in his arms and gently placed her on the seat of one of the kitchen chairs.
So real. He shivered.
“You okay?” His big brother was suddenly beside him.
“That was unnerving.” Both of them stared at the immobile TB5 internal remote probe mechanism.
“Eos, can you please reactivate Bagel.”
“Virgil-“
“No, Scott. Too creepy, too real. Please, just...leave her be.”
To John’s surprise, Scott didn’t protest.
But Bagel didn’t move.
“Eos?” His own voice sounded hollow in his ears.
“Yes, John?”
“Please reactivate Bagel.”
“Why?”
“Eos, just please.”
“Very well.”
And Bagel uncurled herself, sat up and glared at Scott. Before Eos could exact any form of petulant revenge, he grabbed Bagel off the chair and held her in his arms.
“Thank you, Eos.”
“You are very welcome.” Impertinent little brat.
“Now, I’m going to have breakfast, then we are going to have that conversation.”
“Yes, John.”
Something in the room snapped and suddenly everyone went back to their morning routine with only the occasional stare at the cat in his arms.
“Would you like some cereal, John?” Virgil was heading towards the fridge.
“You don’t have to get me breakfast, Virgil.”
“You have your hands full and I’ve already had mine.”
“How early were you up this morning?”
“Early enough. Your cat weirded me out.”
Bagel was rubbing her cheek against his fingers again. He grabbed a chair and sat himself down, placing Bagel on the chair beside him. She started grooming herself quite content.
A bowl was placed in front of him, followed by a cereal box, milk and another glass of orange juice.
Bagel stared up at him
He shook his head slowly. “What am I going to do with you?”
The cat tilted her head and licked her whiskers.
And he knew that somewhere far above the planet his daughter was laughing.

I had absolutely zero intention of loving this show. I have a dear friend who loves this show, and in honor of her, I tried it. Goodness. Bad graphics and bad writing. So cheesy. And not a good cheesy. Just bad. Quit after 3 episodes. Couldn't do it. Then, I had a flare-up. I was so out of it I needed something that required no attention. No focus, nothing. I wanted something cheesy. And, deep down, I wanted something good. Good friends, good characters, and not just raunchy. I wanted something that wasn't dark and gross, but clean and good. It's hard to find clean and good stories that have hearts and souls.
Merlin does. But, you have to look for the pain.
Just like with Marvel. A couple years ago my cousin made me watch the Marvel Movies after I complained about them. She said the pain isn't tourture-death-in-your-face, but it's there all the same. So I watched Marvel and found so much pain I fell in love with it. Merlin is the same. You have to look for the pain under the lighthearted, 12-year-old-boy humor, and when you look, boy is it there. It's Merlin growing up choosing to hide who he is for the sake of his King and friend, never really bring seen. It's the girl he loves dying, it's Lancelot dying--the only one besides Gaius who knows about his magic--it's his father dying, it's being forced to try and kill Morgana and Mordred to save Arthur. It's betrayal, curses, always fighting for the belief in the Once and Future King. It's so many well loved legends told in a slight different manner so they feel fresh and familiar. Holy crap, it's Merlin's dragon voice that moves him from bumbling idiot into something mighty. Gave me chills every time. You get used to him being the smiling kid with big ears and then suddenly he's a man.
I also truly enjoyed the almost entirely male cast. I get really tired of the constant need to have women front and center. I'd rather watch boys be boys and have stories of knights and dragons, personally, so it's just nice to have something masculine to enjoy instead of the constant feminist need to have a woman do everything.
I love how with both Morgana and Mordred, they let you love them. I loved Morgana and her going evil hurt so much, especially because it was Merlin caught in a lose/lose situation. It broke both of them when she started going evil. Same with Mordred, though you don't trust him as much, but you want to. You want Mordred to not go evil. I also liked how they handled the Arthur-Gwen-Lancelot love triangle. It was much better than how it's normally handled.
I loved Morgana's wardrobe. Absolutely perfect.
There were some things I wanted. The round table was only in a few episodes. That felt odd. Gwaine needed way more screen time. I felt like they really focused on him when Lancelot died, and the whole being forced to fight to feed his friends was so visceral, but he really became background in the last season. Leon has been knocked unconscious so many times it's amazing he's still walking and talking. More Percival would have been nice. Gwen kinda became a backdrop for a while, not doing much once her and Arthur got married other than being a villain for a time.
And then the last two episodes had all this! The round table, Gwaine, Percival, Gwen giving Arthur courage. All of it. And BTW, here's my heart why don't you just stick a knife in it: because Merlin losing his power, seeing his Dad, saving Camelot, finally telling Arthur who he is and finally being seen for all his courage and loyalty, but not being able to save Arthur was so epically painful. It was perfect, satisfying, and heartbreaking.
Yeah, I just cried for two hours straight.
I'm beginning to suspect my friends are sadists.
I'm not ready to go on.
(Not sure who made the picture, but it perfectly sums up how I feel right now. Thank you.)

Chapter 9
Stark Spangled Banner Masterlist // Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
 Tarim. Yemen. The hottest place Steve had ever been. Ever. And a place he had no desire to go back to. Ever.
As far as he was concerned, this whole mission had been a cluster fuck of epic proportions. The Mercs they had been sent in to deal with were slightly more ruthless than they had anticipated, taking a group of school kids from the square hostage. Evans and Rollins (in Katie’s absence) managed to contain most of them, taking them down with non-fatal injuries, as was the agreement with the Government, but one of them wasn’t going quietly and had snatched up a kid as he made a break for it.
The Yemeni Special Forces were on their way, and Steve knew that if they arrived permission to execute a kill shot would be given. But even that was dangerous, as the guy had the kid held in such a position, his back to a wall, her held across his chest, that the angle would have been impossible. Steve ordered the team to lower their weapons, and stepped forward, hoping to talk the man down. And then Rumlow had taken a shot, off-loading a bullet straight between the Merc’s eyes.
And Steve was mad, mad as a wasp.
“I gave you a direct order…” He stood, hands on his belt in the jet as he looked at Rumlow, the nerve in his jaw twitching.
“I made a call.” Rumlow shrugged “If I hadn’t they would have gotten away…”
“You put those civilians lives in danger.”
“That’s a little dramatic…”
“Yeah, come on Cap.” Rollins spoke.“The kid was fine, we got the weapons Government were ok…no harm done.”
Steve rounded on him, his blasé tone set his teeth on edge.
“That isn’t the point.” he blazed “I wouldn’t have asked Barton to take a shot like that. I wasn’t, and never will be, willing to risk anyone’s life like that, not to mention that of a child, for collateral damage, just to get what we need. It makes us no better than the people we’re trying to stop.”
“It worked didn’t it?” Rumlow shrugged
“Sheer luck.” Steve retorted.
“Well sometimes you just get lucky.” The STRIKE leader shrugged.
Steve sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. He didn’t need this shit.
“Look Cap, with all due respect, I’ve been running this team for years. You don’t get to do our job without taking a bit of risk.” Rumlow looked at him. “Now I’m sorry if you feel I was challenging your authority…”
“It has nothing to do with my authority.” Steve blazed at him.
“Really? Because that’s what it looks like from my position.” Rumlow shook his head “I’m sorry you feel this way. But it isn’t as simple as that. Life isn’t split into good guys and bad guys, it ain’t black and white… more shades of grey.”
Steve didn’t reply, he simply stared at Rumlow, his eyes raging before he moved away to a seat for take-off next to Natasha.
“Let it go Rogers.” She drawled softly to him. “You’ve chewed him out…you want my advice, leave it there.”
Steve didn’t reply. He was pissed and didn’t trust himself to say anything. He hadn’t heard from Katie so far today, but he wasn’t expecting to as he’d fired her a message last night, or this morning (he had no idea what time-zone he was in anymore) to tell her he was off on an urgent mission.
It was pathetic, he knew, but being away from her was really setting him on edge. Not just because he found jerking off in the shower was far less satisfactory now than before he’d actually started sleeping with her, but more so he was missing the stupid things, like her draping her legs over his on the couch whilst she was reading, her singing when she was cooking, the way she laughed till she cried at Brooklyn Nine-Nine, even demanding he make her a grilled cheese at 02:50 am…
Steve watched with amusement as the girls walked out of the bar, a little shaky, Katie leaning on Natasha laughing at something. He’d dropped them both off earlier in the evening and said he would pick her up later, even though they said they would get a cab. He had insisted, he loved looking after her and that was what boyfriends did right? Picked their dames up. However, as they teetered over to Katie’s car, it looked like he was about to inherit a pair of drunken, giggling idiots to look after, and the thought made him smile with fondness.
“Hi baby!” Katie greeted him as she climbed into the seat. She leaned over to give him a peck on the cheek and he smiled.
“You had fun? You look like you have.”
“Fun is my middle name Rogers.” Nat winked and Katie sniggered in the seat next to him as he pulled the car off from the curb.
“Nat’s gonna stay at mine.” Katie turned to look at him, her cheeks tinged pink with the alcohol “Afterparty!”
“Don’t you think you’ve both had enough?” He teased and. Katie put her fingers to her lips and told him to shush whilst Nat leaned forward.
“Just because you can’t get drunk.” She narrowed her eyes at him.
“Whatever, your funeral Romanoff.” He smirked, eyes on the road.
“God he’s so sensible, how do you cope?” Nat looked at Katie. Through the corner of his eye he saw a wicked smile cross his girls face.
“He has hidden talents” She quipped, before the two women descended into fits of giggles.
Steve let out an exasperated noise through his nose, but secretly he didn’t mind. He loved that she’d had a good time, even if he had the sneaking suspicion he’d been the butt of a few jokes, probably even a few risqué girl chats too.
“Hey, yoooo wanted to come get us..” Katie picked up on the noise he had made and looked at him. “Can’t stand the heat stay the fuck out the…” she paused “erm…”
“Kitchen?” Steve supplied, looking at her, left hand on the wheel, amused grin on his face
“Yeah, that.” She pointed.
“Kitchen is very much your domain sweetheart”
“Not what I heard” Nat chipped in. “She says you make a mean grilled cheese….”
“Oh my god.” Katie said suddenly “can you make us one?”
“What, now?” he frowned.
“Well obviously not right now as this is a carrrr” She rolled her eyes, gesturing around her “But when we get home. I’m hungry.”
He looked at her “Doll, it’s almost three in the morning.”
“Pleeeeeeeeeeeeese Stevie.” She pouted, batting her eyelashes at him in a ridiculously over the top manner, which he couldn’t do anything but laugh at.
“Alright I’ll make you both a grilled cheese” He nodded, unable to stop the smile creeping across his face, even when he heard Natasha burp the word “bitchwhipped” from the back seat.
Emerging from his memories, Steve lay his head back against his seat, shooting a glance over at Rumlow. The man was still being deliberately obtuse about the fact he was going out with Katie and he knew full well that the disobeying of order was a direct ‘fuck you’ aimed at him. But, as he thought about it whilst they flew home, he knew Natasha was right. The more he kept going on about it, the more likely it was to cause a bigger rift. With that in mind, during the debrief with Fury, Steve remained calm and when the time came he nodded at the STRIKE leader, giving him the floor when needed, both sticking to the facts- the operation had worked (Steve didn’t go as far as to use the word success), they had managed to seize the weapons and capture the main cartel leader who was now in custody of the Yemeni Services.
“What I wanna know is why are there so many of these weapons turning up?” Evans asked. “The DODC ran an extensive clean-up operation.”
“They were littered all over the New York, spreading the entire Manhatten area.” Steve said, answering as he looked at the Texan. “The DODC did as much as it could as fast as it could but people were already out there taking bits for themselves before the Chitauri had even been stopped. Katie says they’re still tracking through any leads, sifting out those who took them for souvenirs and those who took them for less scrupulous reasons…it could take years.”
“It was always going to happen.” Natasha shrugged “Terrorists are always looking for the next big thing.”
“Which is why we will always be looking for them.” Fury drew the meeting to an end as he stood up. “Alright, written reports to me no later than forty-eight hours. Other than that, you can head home.”
“Sir” Steve nodded as everyone started to file out. Steve noticed Natasha was hanging back.
“You ok?” She asked.
“Tired, fed up…” he sighed.
“Missing your girl?”
“A little” He admitted, before deciding to ask Nat what was on his mind because he could trust her honesty “Am I being old fashioned here, you know, with not wanting people to die?”
“No.” Natasha shook her head after a pause and he could tell she was picking her words carefully “I just think sometimes…well, we have to accept that we have to take risks.”
“You think Rumlow was right?” He sighed.
“Not as such.” she shrugged, “But I understand why he did it. I don’t necessarily agree with his methods shall we say but…”
Steve ran his hands over his face and couldn’t help thinking to himself how much simpler it had been in the war. They shot at them, they shot back. He let out a deep breath.
“You still taking some time off?“ She looked at him.
Steve shrugged and then looked at his fit bit for a second, thinking to himself the stats would make interesting reading. It was 5 in the morning. He hadn’t slept now for almost twenty-two hours bar the quick nap he had gotten on the jet. At that point his phone sounded with a message from Katie. A photo taken of Galway Bay in Ireland. Smiling at the simple message “Wish you were here.” he looked back at Natasha and nodded.
 “Yeah. I think I am.”
****
“Are you sure he’s okay to go out into the field?” Katie asked Coulson, one eye on Ward’s back. The man had just slammed a case shut, making everyone jump in the hanger and he was growing increasingly broody. Despite herself, she was feeling a pang of sympathy for him. She knew how hard it had been for him to open up about his past, and holding part of the staff had really shaken him. “He’s not exactly acting like himself.” she concluded.
“But he knows it. He’ll be fine.” Coulson replied as they walked to the SUVs. It was a short ride to the Monastary which was located just outside of Galway and Katie spent the time watching the scenery. She loved Ireland, she’d been a few times when at University in the UK. Her mind wandered to her soldier, who himself had Irish roots, his mother and father hailing from Limerick. Smiling, she pulled out her phone. She knew it would be late back in the US, it was barely touching ten am where the where and the time difference would make it the middle of the night. That is if he was back from the mission yet. Still, she took a photo of the coast road they were on skirting the edge of Galway Bay which in the November sun looked stunning, the light bouncing off the calm blue sea reminding her of those deep ocean pools she loved to look into. She sent it to Steve with a simple message ‘wish you were here’ and then shoved it back into her jacket pocket.
The monastery itself was a beautiful gothic building set into the side of a green hill. They all climbed out and checked their weapons, Coulson once more going over the plan of action before they headed to the large front door.
 “Well, it’s been a while.” Elliot said quietly as they walked into the building, Katie taking a moment to appreciate the architecture, another thing Steve would love. “I wonder – ah, yes. There it is. Still here”.
He walked to the front of the room where a book lay set up on a stand.
“Well, the nose isn’t quite right, but…”
 Katie and Coulson walked up behind him, followed by the rest of the group to see that he was looking at a drawing of a man wearing long robes and holding the staff.
“That’s you?” Katie asked, looking at him.
“Yeah, they venerated me a bit as a saint.”
“They’re idiots” Ward spat viciously. They all spun round to look at him, where he was stood a few feet behind them all.  “Where’s the staff?”
“It’s upstairs.”
Elliot led the way, the team following up a set of spiralled staircase. Katie and Coulson were directly behind him, taking the lead with May and Ward shortly behind them as deputies.
 “It’s quiet.” May said softly
“ Why do you think I trusted them with my secret?” Elliot shrugged, still walking on ahead. He Elliot stopped in front of some sort of cabinet and ran his hand down the side before he reached for the handle. “They take a vow of silence.”
“But when you get them talking, they squeal.” A low male voice said, it’s owner appearing from behind one of the walls to the left of the cabinet, holding two pieces of the staff, one in each hand.  It was the man whose mugshot Katie had seen on the tablet earlier that day, Jakob. Suddenly he held one piece up high and stabbed Elliot in the chest with it, he fell to the floor.
 He turned and advanced on the rest of them, and Katie reached for her gun, readying herself. To her left she felt someone bend down to Elliot, presumably to try and treat him.
 “No one else wants to get hurt.” Coulson spoke to Jakob, his gun raised. Jakob cocked his head to one side, looking at it before he stared back at Coulson.
 “If you want to defeat a God, you must become one”
 Suddenly there was a loud yell and a scream. Katie spun round to see Ward had bent to Elliot, only it wasn’t to treat him, it was to retrieve the piece of the staff stuck in the Asgardian man’s chest. He held it in his hand and then suddenly threw himself at Jakob, knocking Katie and May out of the way as he went. The two men fell over the banister railing to the floor below.
Katie scrambled to her feet and looked down to see Jakob recovering from the fall first. She aimed with her gun but couldn’t get a clear shot in, as he picked Ward up like he weighed nothing and slammed him back down to the ground.
 “We need to help him!” Skye said, looking at Ward before she ran off.
“Skye!” Coulson called, he was now bent over Elliot and speaking furiously into his coms for Jemma Simmons to come help. “She can’t fight, she’s not trained…”
May nodded, “We’ll get her. Stark, with me.”
Katie nodded and ran after May, the pair of them practically jumping down the stair. Ward was now on his feet and as Jakob lunged at him, he flung himself to the right out of the way.
“Skye.” May instructed as they caught up with the dark hared girl who was watching Ward now ducking and diving the swipes from Jakob “Stay outta this…”
Both Katie and May stepped forward, but as they did so, Ward paused what he was doing and bent to grasp the part of the staff that was on the floor next to him. His face contorted in rage and when Jakob came at him again, Ward punched him hard in the face, enough to cause him to fly back against the wall where he slumped to the ground before Ward rammed him straight in the chest with the staff in a fit of rage like nothing anyone could comprehend. Ward’s chest was heaving and he spun round to see the other three agents watching him cautiously. His eyes were blazing with a fire Katie had never seen before.
“Ward.” May approached, tentatively stopping when Ward held his hand up.
“Get away from me.” His face was contorted in rage.
“Grant.”  Katie tried gently, stepping forward so she was level with May. “They’re right, that thing, this isn’t you.”
 Something clearly registered in his brain and his face softened slightly but then suddenly the door was kicked open and they whirled round to see the rest of Jakob’s group enter the monastery.  The three agents regrouped and Katie took her fighting stance, weighing up their opponents. It had been a while since she had been in a full force hand to hand combat, but she was pleased to find that her training with Natasha and Steve had kept her prepared. She dodged, ducked, punched, kicked, flipped up and over people, taking them down with her using her legs as the room filled with rowdy men and women, all yelling. May was working through them almost 2 at a time and Ward, now holding two of the staff pieces from somewhere, was easily fighting off a group of them, the power he was gaining from the staff clearly visible.
Katie grabbed one man in a choke hold just as he was trying to get up, and as he stopped struggling she threw him to the ground, and looked round at the now quiet room. May nodded at her, taking a deep breath and Katie turned to see Ward who was shaking drop both pieces of the staff he was holding and collapse to his knees. Skye hurried over and knelt in front of him.
 “Are you alright?” May looked round Katie. She nodded looking giving her a small grin, reaching up to tenderly brush at her cheekbone. One of them had landed a good shot.
“Been a long time since I had a full on fight like that, not using my guns.” she said, and May’s mouth curled up at one side before she made her way over to help Skye get Ward to his feet. Just as Katie was about to join them, the door opened again. She spun round to see another face she recognised from the photos, Jakob’s girlfriend, Petra stood there, the third piece of Staff in her hand.
“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me” Skye said from behind Katie.
Katie looked around glanced at May who also turned her attention to Petra as she was now circling the room. Which a quick flick of her gun, Katie aimed a shot at her, but she simply whipped the piece of staff out in front of her and it tinged the bullet off to one side.
 “We’re no match for her whilst she has that” May said and instinctively Katie glanced down at the two pieces of staff on the floor near them. Grant wearily sighed and went to pick it up but Katie dropped down on one knee and grabbed his wrist, stopping him.
“You’re not in any state to do that.” she said not unkindly as she looked at him, “Let me help.”
“Kay…” he started to argue, the use of his nickname for her registered but now wasn’t the time to chastise him, nor did she really find she cared enough to do so. It was then that May cut in.
“She’s right. We can’t beat them unless we’re on a level playing field.” She shot him a look and he nodded.
“Okay.”
Skye helped Ward away as May and Katie watched Petra as two men from the group they had taken down earlier got to their feet. Petra looked round the room and let out an audible gasp as she saw Jakob’s body for the first time. Katie slowly and apprehensively reached out for a piece of the staff, hesitating for a moment as she had no idea what was going to happen when she did pick it up. May looked at her nodding and then the pair of them reached out, each gripping a piece.  Katie gasped as a warm sensation flooded up through her arm and then her head was like it was somewhere else. Which it was, she was back in what, according to Professor Randall, should be the worst moment of her life, only it wasn’t the moment she had initially thought of when he’d told them that…
Rhodey was on the doorstep of her Chelsea apartment at three am local time. She knew instantly that something was wrong. Without a word he entered, and told her that Tony’s ARV had been attacked and they had no idea where he was. She almost collapsed and he helped her over to the sofa where she sat still, tears falling as she listened. The room fell silent, and with a shaking hand she reached for the remote and turned the TV on to the News Channel, to see her Brother’s face plastered all over the screen.
“I’m sorry Kiddo…” Rhodey’s voice was choked and she turned to look at him “I should have been with him but he insisted on riding in the other ARV, the FunVee…” he shook his head, snorting angrily.
“Who’s taken him?” She asked, swallowing.
“We’re think it was an Ambush by the Ten Rings.” Rhodey swallowed. “We’ve not had a ransom note yet but we expect it’s a matter of time. We’ll find him.”
“It’s finding him alive that’s the issue, Rhodey” She wiped away the tears from her face, the sick feeling in her stomach threatening to overwhelm her and it felt like someone had a band over her chest that they were constricting, hard…and then it was to much, and she bolted to the bathroom, emptying the contents of her stomach into the toilet…
Gasping Katie took a deep breath and looked up sharply as one of the men flew at her. Letting out a yell of rage, pent up anger and hurt she launched forward as Petra did the same. Their pieces of staff blew against one another and soon they were battling, fiercely. Katie was fighting to kill, and she instantly understand what had made Ward run Jakob through with the staff.
It felt good.
She could hear and see in the corner of her eye that May was also tackling a few more members of the group, easily keeping them at bay but Katie was focussed on one thing, the woman in front of her. She was good, matching Katie blow for blow but eventually Katie’s tenacity and training started to win out and she began to get the edge. She swung forward with a huge swipe and knocked Petra to the ground causing the woman to drop her part of the staff. Automatically it joined with the piece Katie was holding in her right hand, glowing orange again.
“It’s been a month, Katie…” Obediah said “A month…I hate to say this but the chances of him coming back…”
“I don’t wanna hear it, Obi!” Katie wheeled round “Tony is alive, and until someone shows me any kind of evidence to the contrary…then things stay as they are, I don’t give a shit what the board say.”
She watched him out of the room before she dropped her head to the desk and began to cry. She didn’t stop, even when Pepper walked into the room and dropped an arm round her shoulder, the pair of them lost…
A crash caught Katie’s attention and she saw May had dispatched the remaining fighters. She glanced up, and saw what Katie was doing and instinctively threw her piece of staff over to her. Katie grabbed it, joining it with the other combined pieces completing the staff.
Katie gave a yell as once more that warm feeling spread up her arm to her chest and her memories swallowed her.
“Your government has for far too long sold weapons, manufactured by Mr Tony Stark, to our oppressors, to our enemies. This is blood in exchange for blood, death in exchange for death, meet our demands or within 48 hours the great Tony Stark is no more…”
The room came back into a bleary focus, just as Petra staggered to her feet, swaying slightly.
“I am not afraid of you.” She spoke, her accent thick.
“You should be…” Katie snarled, as she advanced towards her. Quick as a flash she let out a loud cry and struck Petra with the staff, hard in the face. She fell backwards to the floor, deadly still.
And then a different voice spoke in Katie’s mind a clear voice. Her own voice.
“He escaped, though. And he was fine, well as fine as Tony ever is. So there’s really no need to fear this memory because that’s all it is, a memory. It all worked out in the end…”
Katie dropped the staff and fell to her knees, her entire body shaking with the exertion of wielding the Asgardian weapon. Her head was pounding with those memories, the voices, everything. Her hands flew into her hair as she bent over, trying to focus on anything but her thoughts.
“Hey…” Two hands were on either side of her face, and Katie looked up into May’s eyes. “Focus on me, Stark.” Katie took a deep breath as May’s hands slid gently down to the side of her shoulders. “Can you stand?” She asked. Katie nodded and then looked over at Petra.
“Is she…” She managed to croak out. Had she killed someone? In blind rage?
“Don’t worry about her” May shook her head, “I’ll take care of it.”
Katie got to her feet with May’s help, glancing over at Ward and Skye. Ward gave her a small nod of his head, which she acknowledged with a small incline of her own as May helped her out of the smaller Vestibule room they’d been fighting in and through to the entrance hall of the Monastery, the sun streaming through the stained glass windows.
“That thing…” Katie took a deep breath “Ward wasn’t wrong…it…”
“Tell me about it.” May’s voice was quiet, and Katie realised the normally stoic woman was shaking, although not quite as violently as her. The two of them settled on a large slab of stone. They were shortly joined by Ward as he sat besides them, the three of them didn’t talk for a while, merely lost in their own thoughts, Katie wanting nothing more than to get home to see Steve.
“When you held it…” Ward said eventually, breaking the silence. “Did you see anything?”
May nodded, and so did Katie.
“Then how, Kay? How did you hold all three?” Ward looked at her
She paused, thinking about it for a moment.
No need to fear this memory
“Because it’s a memory that I don’t need to be afraid of.” she shrugged eventually. “And I see the reason why every time I look at Tony.”
*****
Steve packed a bag. There was, sadly, one last mission standing between him and his girl. And he no idea how long this particular mission was going to take. It was completely rogue, way off SHIELD’s official radar anyway, only Fury and Natasha knew what he was doing.
Oh, and Tony. He’d enlisted the Billionaire’s help because had a somewhat personal interest in this case. So much so he’d leant him the Stark Jet, because he couldn’t use the Quinjet, and the fact that like everything Tony owned, his jet was faster and better than anything else, it had shaved a good 2 hours off what the journey would have taken had he flown full commercial, not to mention saved him a load of messing about in the meantime with bookings and check ins.
The jet was comfortable, he had flown on it a few times with Katie before back to NYC when they didn’t drive that was. As soon as he was airborne he face timed Katie using the connection on the plane and had hissed at the bruise on her cheek. She had batted off his concern and instead went on a rant about how cheap Fury was. He had to laugh at her indignant tone, apparently they had arrived at a Premier Inn a few hours ago and she had refused point blank to get out of the SUV and after a battle of wills with Coulson had upgraded the entire team to the Sheraton just outside of Galway within ten minutes. Apparently overnighters weren’t standard for the team she was working in as they had the Bus but Coulson had decided they all needed some down time after what sounded like a gruelling mission.
“And what better way to do that in a 5 star hotel with a spa, right?”
They talked for the longest time they had in the three, almost four days she had been gone and Steve loved it. She didn’t go into much detail about the mission itself, bar to say it had ended in a pretty ruthless fight and that she was mentally and physically exhausted, promising to tell him all about it when she saw him. He told her in no uncertain terms that they were both going to take some time out, Fury had cleared it and her face had lit up, but then fallen when he sadly told her he had one last mission to sort. After assuring her it wouldn’t take long, and it really wouldn’t, she had smiled and told him she couldn’t wait to see him.
“Me either Doll, me either.”
He took the opportunity to get some sleep, and was awoken by one of the stewardesses a few hours later who informed him they were an hour out. Thanking her he headed off to change out of his comfy sweats and into his specially selected outfit, one that would make him blend in a lot more than the stealth suit. Once he had arrived, cleared customs at the private airfield they had landed at, he climbed straight into the arranged official looking blacked out SUV and the driver set off, not a word spoken. The driver already knew their destination, Fury had already patched that information through before he had taken off.
It was easy to blag his way in to the building he needed to be in. Dressed in a black suit, all he had to do was quickly flash his SHIELD ID badge and the woman at the desk was only too happy to provide him the information about where he could find his target, and access to the required area. He didn’t take the elevator, it was too easy to be spotted. Instead he snuck round and found the service stairs and bolted up them two at a time to the seventh floor, his kit bag containing his shield slung over his shoulder.
****
After they had checked in to the decent hotel, not that Premier Inn (which she was sure was clean and perfectly comfortable, but she wanted fucking luxury after three nights of being in that pokey room) and she’d spoken to Steve for at least an hour, Katie showered, changed and headed off out to explore the area with Skye. The two had chatted, Katie really did like the girl, and they’d done a bit of shopping, had a late lunch, before they had headed back to the hotel and made use of the Spa. Then, she’d sat and eaten with the team, before bidding them all goodnight and retiring to her room with a bottle of Krug (because, why not?) and a long assed hot bath.
She tried to face time Steve again, but this time he didn’t answer. Probably elbow deep in whatever mission he was on this time, he’d been very vague about this one, saying it was hush hush but he would explain all in person, including what had gone down in Yemen which sounded like an utter shit-storm.
Changing for bed, Katie dropped onto the comfortable couch of the suite (ok, so she’d upgraded herself a teensy bit more than everyone else), poured herself another glass of Krug, slightly disgruntled to see the bottle was empty. So she rang down for another, fuck it.
Just as she had put the phone down, her cell called.
“Hey baby.” Steve spoke and Katie could hear the smile in his voice. “Sorry, the phone won’t let me face time for some reason.”
“Well that’s a shame because I’m naked.”
Steve groaned and Katie felt herself grin. “Don’t do that to me.”
“Sorry.” She giggled “I’m not really, just wish you were here.”
“I know.” He sighed “Me too”
“I’m taking it that seeing as you can talk your super-secret spy shit mission is done.”
“It was surprisingly easy” He mused, “Target didn’t suspect a thing and thanks to a very helpful lady I met, I got in with no fuss.”
“Helpful lady?” Katie narrowed her eyes. “How helpful?”
Steve let out a chuckle “All I had to do was flash my ID and smile”
“Coz you’re a regular charmer, aint you?” Katie laughed, and then there was a knock on the door. “Oh hang on… room service.”
She got up off the couch, made her way to the door, phone still in her hand and she pulled it open.
“Hey Doll.” Steve grinned at her and her mouth dropped open, the phone slipping out of her hand to the floor. “Surprise.”
She was a sight for sore eyes. Silk cami top and shorts, her hair falling in damp waves around her face. God he’d missed her.
“What…you…” She stammered, taking him in, the black fitted suit and tie he was wearing looked far better than it would have on anyone else and he laughed at the look of utter shock on her face “The mission, I thought…”
“You’re my mission, Sweetheart” He grinned, stepping into the room, dropping his kit bag, picking his phone up as he did so. And, no sooner had he straightened up, Katie gave a little shriek and threw herself into his arms.
“I can’t believe it.” She whispered, her hands straying to his face “You are here right? This isn’t just some weird trick my mind is playing?”
“I’m here, promise.” He placed a soft kiss to her lips. There was a clearing of a throat and Katie peeked over Steve’s shoulder to see a rather embarrassed looking hotel worker clutching the bottle of Krug she had ordered along with a fresh glass and an ice bucket. She tapped Steve’s arms and he reluctantly set her down so she could sign the receipt with a flourish. Steve smiled at the man, taking the ice bucket before closing the door. He followed Katie into the large hotel suite, and dropped the ice bucket and her phone onto the coffee table before sinking onto the couch and Katie climbed onto his lap, winding his tie around her hand.
“For the record,” she murmured as she looked him up and down, “this is a good look.”
“Glad you approve, Darlin’” He grinned as she tugged on his tie, pulling him closer to her, and she pressed her lips to his in a deep kiss.
He responded eagerly, hands creeping into her hair to hold her head in place as his tongue slid against hers, his hips rocking up before his lips dropped to her collarbone
“I missed you.” He purred as she let out a small groan, her hand sliding into his hair.
“I missed you too” She muttered, his hands gently fell to her hips, giving them a squeeze. “Take me to bed.”
Steve didn’t need asking twice. Standing easily, drawing a giggle from her as she wrapped her legs around his waist, he paused and looked around.
“Trust you to get a suite that’s bigger then my apartment.”
“I have very high standards.” She shot back. “Door to the right.”
He gave a quick laugh and strode over to the door, pulling it open and stepping into the plush bedroom which was softly illuminated by the bedside lamp. Dropping her onto the huge bed he crawled over her as she once more grabbed his tie and pulled him down.
“You really do like this huh?” He arched his eyebrow,  ooking down at her as she gently slipped his jacket down his shoulders and he shrugged it off, tossing it to the floor.
“What can I say, I’m a sucker for a suit. Although I still think the Stealth one is better.”
“Maybe I should bring that home one night.” He muttered as his lips slid against her neck and she groaned.
“Please do. Your ass looks great in it.” She moved, pushing on his shoulders. Steve sat back on his heels and she locked her eyes on his, undoing his tie gently, a move she managed to make incredibly arousing and Steve let out a groan and he kissed her.
“Fuck, I missed you.” He whispered into her mouth
“Save it, you’re wearing too many clothes.” She replied, undoing the button on his collar and then her soft fingers made their way down his chest, her eyes following as it fell open. He shrugged it down before he fell back down on top of her and moved to pull her vest top over her head. As he tossed it aside somewhere he let out a gentle moan at the sight of her in front of him, and he wrapped his arm around her back and tugged her up slightly as his head bent to take a nipple into his mouth. He used both his hands and his mouth in a nearly coordinated attack that left her all but dying, and completely desperate for his touch elsewhere. He could read her body signals like a book and happy to oblige, one of his hands slid down, dipping into her bed shorts, finding him hot and wet for him. He groaned into her chest his fingers playing with her.
“Baby you’re soaked.”
She managed to moan in response, and then it was a race for the pair of them to get out of their remaining clothes as fast as they could. Once there was no barrier between them he kissed her hard, Katie shifting so that her legs went around his waist, pulling him flush against her, wanting to touch every inch of him possible. Steve repositioned himself slightly, gently working into her, the pair of them letting out a satisfied sigh as he bottomed out, stilling slightly just to savour the moment.
“Stevie…” Katie whispered into his ears “Please…” At her plea, he began to thrust, slowly, deeply, running his hand down Katie’s leg until his hand stopped at her knee. Katie looked at him as he seemed to hesitate for a split second before he directed her leg up, casually resting it over his shoulder so that he could go even deeper. She moaned loudly, he’d never done that before and it felt so unbelievably good, like nothing ever had before. Her fingers dug into his arm as he starting pushing a little harder, a little faster, then faster, until he had reached a relentless pace. Katie could do nothing but reach up, bracing herself on the headboard of the large bed as he continued, making her curse and leaving her short of breath, eyes closed in utter pleasure.
He slowed for a moment, making her look at him, letting out a noise of protest. “Don’t stop.” she begged, “Fuck, Stevie…”
He grinned, and it was a wicked grin, coupled with the mischievous flash in his eyes and it made her gulp slightly. She’d never seen him like this before, it was as if something had snapped and he was finally letting himself go fully, realising that after almost six months of sleeping together he didn’t have to be a gentleman all the time as she wasn’t going to break. As she stared into those baby blues, his pupils blown with desire he slowly pushed himself up so he could put her other leg over his other shoulder.
“Oh, holy fuck-”  Her voice cut off and turned into a loud wail as he picked up the pace once again, pounding into her over and over and it wasn’t long before his name and another plethora of curses tumbled from her lips as her orgasm ripped through her like nothing she’d felt before. Her back arched, fingers dug into his back as he coaxed her through it before dropping her legs from his shoulders, laying atop her and chasing after his own end furiously. Katie held him close as she came down, gently encouraging him into his ear, his rhythm eventually stuttering and changing as he came with a frantic gasp of her name.
The pair of them were slick with sweat and absolutely spent as they laid still, no sounds coming bar the ragged gasps for air from them both. Steve buried his head in the crook of his girl’s neck and she ran her fingers through his hair, his forehead still clammy and he let out a loud hmmm of contentment.
A moment or so later, Katie broke the silence.
“Baby.” She said softly, a playful thought rising in her mind. His response was simply another hmmm because he was still utterly blissed out. This caused Katie to smile a little as she spoke again. “Did Cap just come out to play?”
She felt him grin into her neck, “I think he may have done, yeah.”
“Well you can tell him from me that was amazing?”
“I’ll be sure to let him know…” Steve mumbled, still not moving.
“In fact, I’d go so far as to say that’s probably the best sex I’ve ever had.”
“Just probably?” Steve lazily raised his head to look at her and she made a show of looking upwards as if she was thinking about it.
“Ok definitely” She grinned, kissing him gently.
*****
Katie bid goodbye to Coulson’s team the next morning, Steve remained in the hotel room as he’d been under instructions from Fury not to speak to Coulson or draw attention to him in any way. Then they’d taken 3 glorious days break in Ireland, hiring a car and driving to Limerick.
As they drove, Katie told him all about the mission, what the staff had made her see, and how it had surprised her slightly what her worst memory was.
“I always thought it would be the time Tony told me mom and dad were dead” she said, softly a Steve cruised their hired Audi Q3 down the motorway. “Guess I fear losing Tony more.”
“It kinda makes sense.” Steve said, his hand straying to her knee “you were very young when the crash happened. Tony’s been your dad for, what, 22 years now? Far longer than Howard was I suppose.”
“Yeah.” she said gently, looking out of the window “I mean, I don’t remember a lot about my parents to be fair. I have memories, but sometimes I wonder how many of them are mine and how many of them are what people told me.”
Reminiscing seemed to be the theme of their brief trip away. They spent a day visiting the places Steve’s Ma had told him all about, then the next day, after a lazy morning they drove up to Dublin where they had both drunk a fair amount of Guinness after Katie dragged Steve to Temple Bar, showing him the places she had spent a fair few weekends in on trips over from the UK. They forgot all about SHIELD, all about Fury, all about missions. They were just a normal couple enjoying a break, and Steve had frankly never had as much fun in his life.
It was on their last night, just after they were curled up in post coital bliss after their 3rd round that evening when Steve mentioned about how it was back to reality the day after that Katie propped herself up on her elbow and looked at him, biting her lip.
“What if I don’t want to?” She asked quietly.
“Don’t want to what, Honey?” Steve asked, kissing her head.
“Go back. To SHIELD I mean.”
Steve’s hand paused its journey up and down her spine as he turned his head to look at her, frowning. “You want to leave?”
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot over the last 3 days.” she said, her fingers gently tracing over the dark blonde hair on his chest. “I can’t do it anymore Steve, I’m tired.”
“What’s brought this on?” he asked, turning so he was on his side facing her, pushing her hair back off her face.
“I can’t pin point one thing.” she said, looking down. “But…”
Steve paused, waiting for her to continue, and after a deep breath she did, her words coming almost as a jumble as she poured her heart out to him in the darkness of their hotel room.
“If I’m honest I’ve been thinking about it since we found out that they hadn’t been destroying the Chitauri weapons. Look what happened when Fury started fucking about with the Tesseract… I mean how do we know they’re not making more weapons just like they were before New York?”
Steve remained silent, that had been bubbling away in his mind too. He wasn’t best pleased about the situation but knew that Katie, who had headed up the DODC clean- up had taken it personally. She’d flipped out when Tony had told her what his latest hack into SHIELD had discovered and Steve had had to stop her marching into Fury’s office and calling him a liar there and then. He understood completely, she felt betrayed after having being told she was heading up a clean-up operation when in actual fact it turns out to be a goddamed technology harvesting operation.
“You now when Coulson died, I blamed myself. I made a decision to try to free Thor not help Coulson and I know I’d probably do it all over again because it was the right call, but the point is I blamed myself, for the past what, 18 months or so and Fury…he let me do that, he let me think he was dead…”
She was getting worked up, Steve could hear it and sense it, even if he couldn’t see her properly.
“Hey…” he said, his hand gently moving to her arm, rubbing softly as she continued her ramblings.
“And then there I get to The Bus and there’s more secrets there, not being told Ward was on the team, which to be fair wasn’t as bad as I thought but still, it’s more lies…”
She was crying now and Steve sighed, wrapping his arms round her and pulling her to him. She pressed her face into his chest “This isn’t me Steve, it’s not who I am.”
He held her close, hand wandering up into her hair as he chewed over what she was saying. From a selfish point of view the thought of her leaving SHIELD worried him. She’d been his linchpin, his rock at the agency, and he relied on her more than she would know. He loved working with her, seeing every day and he was scared if that changed, so would their relationship. But there was a small part of him that also worried when she was on missions, and there was no doubt if she did quit she’d be a hell of a lot safer. And not all couples worked together, right?
He pulled back slightly, his large hand cupping her cheek “Hey, you know I got your 6 right? I’ll support you no matter what you decide.”
“I know.” She sniffed softly. I just feel like if I do quit, then I’m taking the easy way out, you know, I mean SHIELD is dad’s legacy.”
“Maybe once.” Steve popped his shoulder. “Times have moved on, SHIELD has changed. I doubt your dad, Peggy or Colonel Phillips would have ever imagined in a million years how it would evolve.”
“You’re telling me times have changed?” She quipped and he chuckled.
“Guess I am, but I learned pretty fast when I got that serum that you can’t live your life being who people want you to be or think you should be. You need to be true to yourself”
She nodded and stifled a yawn.
“Sleep on it.” He urged, his thumb stroking her cheek. “And then if it’s still what you want tomorrow, ’ll even write your resignation letter.”
“I got it planned” She yawned. “Dear Fury. Fuck you. Love Nova.”
Steve laughed and pulled her to him, kissing her head. “Maybe drop the Love Nova.”
****
“You sure you wanna do this?” Steve asked as they stopped outside Fury’s office. Katie nodded, taking a deep breath.
“Okay, I’ll be right here.” He said, both his hands on her face. She gave him a smile and then turned and opened the door.
“Agent Stark.” Fury swivelled in his chair “Take a seat.”
“It’s okay Sir, this won’t take long.” She declined his offer, taking a deep breath.
“Do I need to borrow Captain Rogers SHIELD?” He looked at her, raising an eyebrow. “I’m assuming this is the bit where you’ve come to tell me exactly how pissed at me you are.”
“I’m not pissed” She shook her head, “I was, but not now. I’m just disappointed.”
He eyed her, and gestured for her to continue.
“I expected better from you Sir. You lied to me. You let me believe Coulson was dead. You know I blamed myself for that for months, and then if that wasn’t bad enough you sent me to a team containing my ex boyfriend…and don’t even get me started on the fact you’re secretly hiding Chitauri technology instead of destroying it.”
At that Fury’s face slipped and his face grew dark. “How do you…”
She arched an eyebrow and Fury gave a groan.
“Son of a…your brother is a liability.”
“Maybe, but at least he isn’t a liar.”  She shot back. “And neither am I. I pride myself on being honest, doing the best I can and I don’t like being used or manipulated.”
 “Agent Stark…”
“I can’t do it anymore.” She hook her head. “I’m tired of it all, the lies, the secrecy. This isn’t…it isn’t me.” she finished, shrugging.
“So what are you saying Nova?”
“That you can consider this my formal resignation.” She looked at him, eyes not moving from his and for a moment she was sure she saw a flicker of something that looked like regret flash across the Director’s face. But it disappeared as fast as it had arrived and she took a deep breath, squaring her shoulders back. “I will, of course, work any formal notice period.”
“I don’t suppose there’s any point in me trying to change your mind?”
“No, don’t suppose there is.” She shook her head.
“In that case, there’s no notice period necessary.” Fury spoke calmly, his posture returning to normal. He took a deep breath and strode round his desk, holding out his hand. “I’m sorry it’s come to this. You’re one of the best agents I’ve had. Coulson said you worked wonders on the Staff case.”
“Thank you, Sir.” She swalloed, fighting to keep her voice from cracking. “This hasn’t been an easy decision. For the most part, it’s been an honour to serve.”
She gently reached into her pocket, pulling out her official ID and ran her fingers over the silver badge before she handed it to him. Fury took it from her, and with one last smile she took a deep breath and turned, to leave, the tears brewing in her eyes.
This had to be one of the hardest decisions she’d ever made in her life but she wasn’t backing down. She’d talked it over with Steve extensively over the last two days and Tony too for that matter, her brother telling her that he, and their father would be proud of her no matter what. Undeniably her role at SHIELD had given her everything. A purpose, a new outlook on life, Steve. But now it was time to channel that energy in a new way.
“I would like you to remain on our books, in an advisory role.” Fury’s voice stopped her in her tracks and she grinned to herself, suddenly transported back to when he had said the same thing to Tony a few years ago.
She turned back and winked. “You can’t afford me.”

SNK Reader x Sasha, Annie, and Mikasa
Mikasa and Annie fall in love with Y/N, unknowing they're already with Sasha
Neutral Pronouns, Word Count: 1308,
Mikasa and Annie weren't ever the best of friends, but their first quarrel was in the first few months of cadet training. I don't think most would guess these stoic soldiers' first epic battle was over a common love interest.
Y/N joined the cadets after seeing how many lives were ruined and torn apart and wanted to help in any way they could, so they figured why not go into the survey corps. On orientation day, they were all lined up in rows while the instructor, Shadis, gave his less than heartwarming speech.
When it was all over, Y/N went to introduce themself to the other cadets. They first saw a group of three and thought, why not meet them? The shortest one of the trio had medium long hair and softest, ocean eyes you could ever imagine. The other boy was a bit taller with brown, short hair and rebellious green eyes, he stood himself in a confident manner and was the first one to talk when Y/N approached. “Hey” The brown haired spoke. “Hello.” The shorter one shyly followed. “Hi i’m Y/N!” They then noticed the third person of the group, who was previously turned to face the taller boy who’d now Identified himself as Eren. She was tall, about the same height as Eren. She had long midnight hair, grey eyes like a wolf. The look she gave Y/N was confusing; Her mid-face seemed tinted pink, but her eyes glared at them both like they were a God, and like they were a bag of dogshit left on the sidewalk. The four chatted and introduced themselves for a while but the Girl, named Mikasa, didn’t speak once as far as Y/N could recall.
Day one of training began, Y/N and Mikasa met up for breakfast and they’d met Eren and Armin. Y/N saw Sasha and called her over, when she got close Y/N immediately got up and gave her a big hug and introduced her to the trio. Y/N never specified Sasha was their girlfriend, which will later prove to be a big mistake
A few hours later, everyone was paired up to practice hand to hand combat. Y/N got paired with a short, blonde girl named Annie. She looked very strong, but lucky for Y/N, Annie thought they were cute. Though she's not the type of person to feel like that, she figured it was normal to feel like that once so she might as well enjoy it a little bit. “Hi, i’m not really sure how to do this” They admitted when Annie walked up to them. “That's ok, i'll teach you.” She said less than enthusiastically. Y/N surprisingly understood the directions Annie was giving them, though she seemed pissed to have to interact with another human being. Y/N practiced what they’d just been taught, subsequently leaving Annie flat on her ass. “Oh my Goddesses! Annie are you ok? I'm so sorry, are you ok Annie?” They ran to her side to check her, thankfully she was ok (it wasn’t much of an attack anyway) but Annie was flustered, her cheeks painted red. Woah this persons hot, and so nice, nobody had ever knocked her right down and worriedly made sure she was ok. “Yeah i’m fine, uh, good job..” She replied not fully knowing how to respond. After that, Annie tried to be paired up with Y/N as much as possible
Mikasa and Annie were both luckstrucken by the Y/H(eight), H/C cadet. They had to have them, though they did not know each other even existed then, they were going to learn soon enough.
Mikasa was the first to move in; Within the first week of training Mikasa was simping and offered to do all of Y/Ns chores, they declined the offer because they didn't want Mika to do that much for them, but She'd managed to convince them to at least help. Annie was the first to notice the other. She'd seen Mikasa spending so much time together, Y/N was hers.. She’d need to step up her game! At the next partnered training session Annie made sure to team up with Y/N. She asked to train them privately everyday because she thinks they have potential. They excitedly accepted and spent every afternoon together.
Mikasa hated that they spent more time with Annie than her. She had to find a way to win them over. Mikasa tried to take Y/Ns time away from Annie, being more caregiving than ever. It turned to Y/N alternating evenings, one day with Annie, the next with Mika, neither of them were satisfied with this. Each day they’d try to step each other up, either by trying to win their heart or impressing them and Y/N was oblivious to it all. Sasha was too though I bet any normal partner would be suspicious as hell but somehow these two were completely unaware of the rivalry that developed.
Finally one night, Y/N, Sasha, Reiner, Bertolt, and Connie were all conversing together, eating dinner. “So, Y/N, what’s up with you and Mikasa and Annie?” Reiner questioned. “Huh? Nothing, we're just friends.” Y/N laughed confused. “It’s pretty obvious, neither of them treat anyone else so nice, what’s so special about you?!” Connie joked. “I don’t know what you guys are talking about, if they had feelings for me I’d think I’d know, plus they know I’m with Sasha anyway who doesn't!” “most people actually, you two don’t really act like a couple.” Bertolt Chimed in. “That doesn’t mean we don’t love each other like any normal couple.” Sasha added cuddling into Y/N.
Suddenly there was loud ruckus in the dining hall. The group quickly joined the cadets who seemed to be surrounding something, whatever it was had to be interesting. The excited event that pumped up the entire cadet corps was 2 of the strongest soldiers fighting fist to fist. The dark glares they gave each other sent shivers down Y/N’s back, this wasn’t good. They both waited and watched each other, calculating their movements. As they stepped towards each other, both with their fists up and ready, Y/N stepped in. “Stop! What are you two fighting about! Please don’t do this!” They pleaded. The girls stopped and looked at them with shocked faces. “Y/N, I love you, we both do, you need to pick one of us.” Annie said, her blue eyes desperate for Y/Ns love, Mikasa watching them with a similar look in her eyes. Whispers among the crowd grew louder, and a few cheers and woo’s as well. “I’m sorry you guys…” “Y/N I would treat you way better than she would, I would actually take care of you rather than beat the shit out of you.” Mikasa impulsively said, strangely, it wasn't like her to do that but she couldn't stop herself. “Mika, I-” “Y/N I would never hurt you, I can take you far, I can take you places you could never imagine, please, be with me..” Annie cried. She had thoughts of the future, anxiety started to overwhelm her. “Um I'm sorry you two but they’re with me.” Sasha finally chimed in. An awkward silence filled the room. After a few, long, almost unbearable seconds, Annie ran out of the building to get some fresh air. Mikasa stayed silent. Eventually Reiner stepped in being the social dad that he is, “Ok guys, it’s over, it’s nobody's business just leave them be alright, they got a lot to work out here.”
And that they did. It took a while but eventually Annie and Mikasa got over their heartbreak and stayed close friends with Y/N, all the way to the end.

Lover of Mine
Tumblr media
Summary: Steve admits to his mistakes.
Word Count: 2.9k
And away, and away we go!
__
Steve had never meant to fall in love with Peggy Carter. But in a weird way he couldn’t put words to, she reminded him of Bucky. Strong-minded, and maybe a little too arrogant at times. Caring. And a terrible sight to behold if you crossed her. And when she smiled at him like he was the only one in the room? He’d always been a sucker for people who made him feel desired.
He missed Bucky, and Peggy had been there, and his heart tried to reconcile the difference until it couldn’t anymore.
With Peggy it was easy. He could kiss her in crowded rooms without a blush covering him from head to toe. He could do so many of the traditional things he’d been too scared to do with Bucky. And Peggy hadn’t fallen off a train, leaving him to worry about her whereabouts.
But Bucky? Bucky was everything Steve had of his past. The reason he had survived long enough to have a future. And it never seemed to matter how many moments he lost with Bucky, as they always had a way of falling back together as if they’d never been apart. And they could console each other’s nightmares in a way that no one else could. There were no secrets or hiding harsh realities, as they both accepted the darkest parts of each other with the same fierceness they accepted the bright parts. No matter how many times they fell, the other was always there to catch. Safety. Home. A sense of belonging. That was what he had with Bucky.
Until he had let it all slip through his finger tips. And for what? A woman who he only loved because she felt like Bucky? A mistake of epic proportions when he had the real thing all along. And he knew it. He knew it the second Bucky had spat out the words, “I said get out, Captain.” But he had been helpless to stop what he had never meant to set into motion.
So out of the apartment and into the night he had walked, head hung in shame.
He’d gotten three blocks before he realized he had left his dog tags on Bucky’s dresser.
And in the morning, he broke up with Peggy too. And in doing so, left himself utterly alone until he found the strength to drag himself across town to Bucky’s doorstep, ready to rectify his mistakes.
~~~
Bucky shoved his hands deep in his pockets, lengthening his strides as the rain started to fall. Lightning flashed and thunder boomed, and he would have broken out in a slow jog to avoid getting soaked, but his apartment was coming into sight. He’d make it. Barely. But he’d make it.
He would have walked straight past the man sitting on the steps outside, if the man’s words of “Huh. So those are where my dog tags went. Been looking for those,” didn’t freeze him in his tracks.
Bucky didn’t say anything as Steve rose to his feet, his blonde hair and the shoulders of his jacket drenched darkly with the rain.
“Wow… Sam was right… You do have a staring problem,” Steve tried to joke with a smile.
“Can I help you, Captain?” Bucky asked, not bothering to soften the bite of his tone.
Steve let out a long sigh. “Can we not do this? The attitude?”
Bucky looked skyward, the rain falling faster and heavier. He may not be able to get drunk, but he could still catch a wicked cold if he stayed out here much longer. And as much as he hated it, he still knew Steve well enough to know that the man was shivering based on the slight tremor in his jaw as he tried to stop his teeth from clacking together. “I suppose you want to come inside, then?”
“Sure beats the alternative of freezing to death. Wasn’t really a fan of that.”
Another bad attempt at a joke that Bucky didn’t take the bait for. Instead, he titled his head towards the building. “C’mon, then.”
Steve smiled, following after Bucky into the building and then Bucky’s apartment. “Thanks, Buck.”
“I wouldn’t thank me yet, Rogers. Don’t mistake my not wanting to get sick as any sort of warm welcome upon seeing you. So I’ll only ask you this once. What do you want?”
Steve perched himself on the edge of the couch, watching as Bucky shrugged out of his leather jacket, draping it over a chair to dry. “I wanted to talk if that’s alright,” he answered.
“You know,” Bucky said, tongue clicking in his cheek. “Maybe they should have called you Captain Obvious instead of Captain America. Because, funnily enough, I worked out that you wanted to talk all on my own.”
“Bucky…” Steve said, feeling his own temper start to flare.
“Steve,” Bucky spat back, before disappearing down the hall.
“I came here to apologize, but if you’re going to insist on acting like a chi-” Steve began to lecture, before Bucky reappeared with a clean black t-shirt in his hand.
“Change. I won’t have you dying on my watch,” was the order before the shirt came flying at his face.
Steve shed his own jacket, but his fingers fiddled with the hem of his shirt. “Ah, to hell with it,” he mumbled. He quickly discarded his shirt, lying it alongside his jacket, before slipping into Bucky’s, the warmth bone deep. “What?” he snapped at Bucky who was staring at him with a bemused grin.
“Nothing,” the older man said, the slight smirk still painted on his lips. “Sometimes it’s easy to forget that you were always the shy kid, is all. So… an apology?”
“Yeah. I’m sorry.”
“Wow… Thanks. Means a lot,” Bucky deadpanned.
“James Buchanan…” Steve growled, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Steven Grant,” Bucky taunted back.
Steve pushed himself to his feet. “You know what? This was stupid. Good seeing you, Buck.”
“Wait. No. Don’t go,” Bucky said, still in that same dead tone.
“Fuck you, Bucky.” There was no malice in the words however, just a weariness as Steve headed for the door.
“Oh, my God,” Bucky muttered with an eye roll. “Sit down, Rogers, before I make you sit down.”
Steve turned, arms crossing as he glared across the room at Bucky. “You can’t order me around.”
“Like hell I can’t. Sit. Your ass. Down!”
“Why should I? I came here to try and talk to you, but I’m not gonna sit here and listen to you make snide remarks the whole time. So you can either cool it with the attitude, or I’m leaving.”
With a growl, Bucky stalked across the apartment, grabbing Steve’s arm. “I told you to sit down.” If the tone of the command wasn’t enough to chill Steve, the flash in Bucky’s eyes was.
Fine,” he relented through gritted teeth, swallowing thickly.
Bucky let go of Steve’s arm, taking two steps back. “Do you want like… something to drink, or something?” Bucky asked, avoiding looking at Steve by walking towards the kitchen, his voice changing to what Steve knew to be his cautiously polite voice.
“Whatever’s fine, thank you,” Steve replied in the same tone, taking a seat on the couch again. Awkward politeness was better than the bitter hostilities. “So, um…” Steve started as Bucky rummaged about in the kitchen. “How have things been?”
“You don’t have to do that. Make small talk to try, and make this less awkward than it is. And for what it’s worth, I apologize for my attitude. I, um, wasn’t expecting to have a visitor. Much less have that visitor be you.”
“Yeah. I would have called, but…”
“Figured I couldn’t ignore you if you sat on my doorstep in the rain?”
“Well, I wasn’t planning on the rain bit.”
Bucky let out a small scoff of a laugh as he joined Steve on the couch, a steaming mug in either of his hands. “Here.”
“What is it?” Steve asked, taking the offered mug.
“Just drink it.”
Hesitantly, Steve took a sip, the hot chocolate burning his tongue and throat, warming him in the same manner Bucky’s shirt had. “Mmm,” he sighed, taking another deeper sip before setting the cup aside. “Thank you.”
“Okay. This time, I’m not actually trying to be rude. But why are you here?”
“Like I said, I came to talk. To apologize.”
“What about?”
“I made a mistake. Lots of them, actually. But I shouldn’t have left that night. And I’m sorry that I did.”
“Well, it’s not like I really gave you the choice to stay.”
“I still shouldn’t have left. Should’ve fought harder. Explained better.”
“Break my heart a little less painfully? Tear us apart with a little more grace? Run away a little less scared?”
The edge was back in Bucky’s tone, and Steve couldn’t blame him for it. “Hurting you was never my intention, Buck.”
“Mmm, well you know what they say about intentions. The road to hell is paved with the good ones.”
There was silence as Steve reached to drink from his cup again, collecting his thoughts. “I broke things off with Peggy. The night after I left.”
“Wow. Heartbreak Rogers. 2 for 2. Didn’t know you had it in you.”
“Bucky…”
“What? Am I supposed to be happy to hear that you broke up with her? Should I be jumping about with joy that you feel you made a mistake?”
“No…”
“Good. Because you still broke me, Steve. And nothing erases that. Nothing fixes that.”
“I know.”
“Then what are you doing here?” Bucky asked, his voice tight as he tried to keep it from breaking. “If you think you made a mistake that night and immediately ended things with her as a result, why did it take you six months to come back?”
“Because I thought you hated me. God knows I hated myself.”
“Then why come back at all?”
“Because even though you might hate me, I’m still in love with you.”
Bucky barked out a laugh full of pain as he rubbed his face. “That’s great… That’s really great…”
“Bucky, I’m serious.”
“Oh, I bet you are. So in love with me, you fell for someone else. So in love with me, you left!”
“I told you, I made a mistake. Lots of them. The only reason I fell for her was because she reminded me of you.”
“How romantic…”
“It was always you, Buck. It’s always gonna be you. Loving you is the only thing I have ever gotten right.”
“If it was the only thing you got right, then why did you give it up? Why did you let me go?”
“Because I didn’t know what else to do. That night… Everything was spinning out of control so fast… And you were so hurt… I just wanted it all to stop. Wanted you to stop hurting. So I did what you told me to do. I left. But all I did was make more of a mess of things.”
“So what? You want me back? Is that what this talk is? You want another chance?”
“No. I mean… Yes, I want you back, and yes, I want another chance. But I’m not stupid enough to hope that’ll happen. I just came to tell you that I really am sorry for hurting you. Not as a ploy to win you back. Not as an attempt at being forgiven. Because I don’t deserve to be forgiven, and I certainly don’t deserve to have you back. I really messed up, Buck. I hurt the one person I love most in the world. And I’ll never stop being sorry for it.”
“And what happens if I do take you back? Hypothetically speaking. How do I know you won’t leave again? That I won’t have to relive this pain? Because, I’ll be honest… I’ve survived a lot of things I shouldn’t have been able to survive. I mean… I lost an arm falling off a train for God’s sake. I was a POW torture victim. But none of it hurt me as badly as not having you. None of it comes close to the pain I’ve felt these last couple months. You had me questioning everything I thought I knew.”
“I know… Like you said, nothing is going to erase, or fix what I did. That’s why I’m not being stupid enough to ask for another chance, no matter how badly I want one. But Bucky, I swear to you that I’ll never make this mistake again. If you decide you want me back, I’ll never let you go. You’re the only love I’m ever going to want, and if you let me, I’ll spend the rest of my life proving that to you.”
The emotions were too high. Having Steve say everything Bucky ever wanted him to say since the break up was too much. But words only went so far. “Damn you…” Bucky said softly, before he was leaning in to kiss Steve. “God damn you,” he continued to murmur as Steve melted under the force of Bucky’s lips on his, sinking into the couch as Bucky kept moving closer.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” Steve whispered back, pulling Bucky on top of him while he laid flat against the couch, their lips still locked.
“I should hate you,” Bucky breathed, his lips hungrily moving down Steve’s jaw to his throat. And he should. He knew he should hate Steve for leaving. Should stop kissing him and tell him to leave. But God, it felt so good, feeling the love that lingered flare back to life.
“I know. I know,” Steve panted, carding his fingers through Bucky’s hair, arching his back as metal fingertips pushed their way up his stomach, growing familiar once more with the flat expanse of tightly toned muscle. “God, Bucky!” was the gasp when Bucky’s other hand cupped the crotch of his jeans.
“I should ruin you the way you ruined me,” he rasped, teeth nipping into Steve’s skin, intent on leaving his mark everywhere he could. A filthy promise of what the night could hold, rather than a scorned musing of bitterness.
The moan that rippled past Steve’s lips was heavenly as his fingers tightened in Bucky’s hair. “Ruin me then. Hate me, and ruin me. I don’t care, Bucky, just whatever it is, don’t stop. Please. I need you.” The words dripped with desperation as Steve rocked his hips against Bucky’s hand.
Bucky halted his movements, lifting up his head to look down at Steve who’s whimpered moan got stuck in his throat. He didn’t want to hate or ruin Steve. He never wanted Steve to feel even an ounce of the pain Bucky had been feeling. He wanted… God, what did he want? He wanted this moment. And he wanted it not to be ruined by his doubts about being able to trust Steve again. And he wanted Steve to understand that he could never hate him. The metal hand that had been on Steve’s stomach now came to grip lightly at Steve’s chin. “I don’t hate you,” Bucky said. “You hear me? I don’t hate you.”
Steve nodded rapidly, swallowing thickly. “I’ve missed you.”
Bucky chuckled, deciding to voice his doubts. “You’re only saying that cuz my hand’s still on your cock.”
Steve shook his head. “No. I mean it. I’ve missed you.”
Bucky squeezed his hand lightly, smirking when Steve’s eyes rolled and fought to stay open. “Don’t lie to me, sweetheart.”
“Okay, okay,” Steve squirmed. “I’ve missed this part, too. A lot. But I’ve missed you more. Missed loving you more.”
“The night’s barely starting. You’re sure another chance is what you want?” It was both a taunt, and a last ditch effort on Bucky’s part to maybe stop himself from the risk of letting Steve back in.
“Please?” Steve’s eyes were solemn as they stared up into Bucky’s. “Let me love you again. I swear I’ll get it right this time.”
Bucky sat up, breaking every point of contact with Steve, who scrambled upright himself. Bucky’s chest heaved, trying to calm both the sexual urge and panic coursing through him. God, he wanted so badly to believe Steve, and lose himself in him like they used to. But make up sex wasn’t a cure.
“Bucky?” Steve asked softly, his hand stroking up Bucky’s arm. “Hey, talk to me.”
“I want to, Steve. God, you have no idea how bad I want this. But I-”
“Gaining your trust back isn’t going to happen over a single night of make up sex. I know. I know this isn’t going to be easy, and I know it’s going to take time. But I’ll make it worth it. Piece by piece I’ll fix what I broke. Just let me try. Please? Take me back. Take all of me, and I’ll never give up whatever you give me back. I love you.”
“Say that again. That last part.”
“I love you.”
“One more time.”
Steve grinned, moving to close the space between him and Bucky. “I love you,” he whispered, his lips brushing against Bucky’s cheeks. “I love you. And nothing will ever change that.”
Bucky turned his head, nuzzling his nose against Steve’s. “God I’ve been waiting so long to hear you say that.”
“I’ll say it until my lungs give out.”
The fingers of Bucky’s right hand curled into a fist around Steve’s shirt. “Stay with me tonight? And maybe every night after that?”
Steve grinned wider. “I’ll stay as long as you want me to.”
“Forever. Because that’s how long I’m gonna love you.”
“Does this mean we’re at the part where I thank you?” Steve asked with a sly smile.
“Only if that thanks includes you winding up in my bed.”
“I think we can arrange that.”
“God, I love you.”
Chromeskull x Reader- Future Parents?
Tumblr media
Warning: None
Words: 1.2k
You huffed as you brought the last luggage into Jesse's house, your eyes on your cousin who was rambling on and on about her daughter's schedule.
"She isn't allowed to eat sweets after dinner, also make sure that you follow the instructions exactly. I don't want her to miss any activities." your cousin explained with a serious look, her daughter, Cornelia, looking down, and you knew she wanted to say something, but you guessed anyone with a mother like your cousin would rather disappear than put up with her strict demeanor.
When she finally left, you let out a long breath of relief. Your cousin was a single mother, her husband left her and you had a guess it had to do with her attitude, and now she was going on vacation, alone, without her daughter that you had to babysit now. Not like you minded, Cornelia was an angel; probably she took after her father and definitely not her mother.
'Thank God she left. Her voice was like a knife for my ears.' the familiar electronic voice meets you and Cornelia's ear, both of you turning around and seeing Jesse coming out of his office, making the little girl grin.
"Jesse!" she screamed running to him and jumping in his arms and he spun her around, her adorable laugh making you smile too at the cute scenario.
Jesse set her down and typed on the phone.
"Hello, little sprout." the electronic voice spoke for him, making the little girl giggle.
"Sweetheart, why don't you go unpack and then come downstairs. I will make some lunch for us." you told her and she nodded eagerly, taking her backpack and running upstairs to her designated guestroom.
"So you decided just now to show up?" you asked Jesse with your arms crossed over your chest and an amused smile on your face.
Jesse rolled his eye and signed.
'That witch of your cousin is annoying. Her voice is like knives to my ears.'
You laughed at that and shake your head, walking to the kitchen to prepare the food. Let's just say Jesse and your cousin weren't exactly fond of each other, especially since Jesse always gave her snarky remarks. At one point Jesse told you that she reminded him of his former mother-in-law; bad memories.
While you made lunch Jesse looked after the little sunshine, since she begged him to come to play with her upstairs and you know your behemoth of a boyfriend couldn't resist her puppy stare. You set up the plates for the three of you, filling them with warm homemade lunch, then you took the apron off and went upstairs to call the two for lunch.
When you opened the door to Cornelia's room, you had to stifle a laugh, because the scene before you was a pure comedy; Cornelia and Jesse having a tea party with the stuffed animals, but the epic part was Jesse wearing a pink tutu and bunny ears.
"Lunch is ready you two." you pulled on their attention.
"The last one downstairs is a big dork!" Cornelia yelled, taking off into a sprint downstairs.
"You know...Pink is really not your color, Bugs Bunny." You told Jesse who was glaring at you, taking off the pink tutu and rabbit ears.
'Watch it, doll...Or do you prefer to go at it like rabbits?' he signed, bopping your nose and giving you a smirk.
Lunch went by in a good manner, with Cornelia sitting down on Jesse's lap and blabbering about how was pre-school, how her dancing lessons were; she really was a delight and made you and Jesse laugh, until...
"Why can't you two be my parents?" she asked with such an innocent look it made you and Jesse stop eating and look at each other.
"Oh, darling. You already have two parents." you told her and she pouted.
"Yes, but they aren't like you two. Mom is always planning everything, but it's no fun, and dad doesn't want to hear about her and he is mostly at work." she began to tell and Jesse couldn't help but to wrap his arms around her in a comforting hug.
You know that this was a sensitive subject for Jesse too; he grew up not knowing his father and his mother left him when he was little, not to mention the horrible events after that.
"Look...I promise that once in a while you can visit us and we can play games, watch movies and cartoons." you tried to be understanding of her, her doe-like eyes locked on yours.
"[Name], I want you to be my mother." her statement was so simple said by her, but also very complicated.
After lunch, you did the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen, while Jesse and Cornelia were watching cartoons, then you helped her out with homework. Before you knew it, it was already bedtime for her; after she took a bath, you put her to sleep, smiling at her peaceful face then turned the lights off.
You walked downstairs, yawning and decided to get yourself a drink. Just like Jesse had read your mind, he was in the kitchen, filling a glass with scotch, then his gaze moved to you.
'Want some?' he signed and you nodded.
He poured another one and handed it to you, taking a sip; your brows relaxing from how tense you were.
'I feel bad for her.' he signed, and you huffed.
"I know, but I'm in no position to do anything; you know how my cousin is." you whispered and Jesse scoffed.
'That witch is making me want to toss her into a coffin.' he signed and you chuckled.
Jesse's gaze softened as he looked at you.
'You will make a great mother.'
At that your eyes widened, your cheeks heating up at the meaning behind it, then you found yourself picked up and set on the kitchen counter with Jesse between your legs.
"J-Jesse?" you shuttered, his gaze half-lidded.
'I want mommy's attention too.' he signed and you almost choked on the words that wanted to escape your lips.
"Oh, God...You're terrible." you said, face all red and he just shrugged, starting to kiss your neck, his hands moving up your legs and under your shirt, his fingertips massaging your waist and hips.
You closed your eyes and moaned lowly, your legs pulling him closer and lips kiss turned into sensual biting, surely leaving hickeys, then you both were pulled from the intense touchings by footsteps, your eyes opened wide and saw Cornelia in the doorway of the kitchen, Jesse looking at her too.
"Don't worry I didn't say anything. Just came for a glass of water." She simply said, going back upstairs to her bedroom.
"God, we need to be more careful." you murmured, then were picked up in his arms as he marched with you to the master bedroom, making sure to lock the door.
"Jesse, you're such a dork." you giggled and he smirked.
'Don't get me wrong, I love that sprout, but I want some of my own.' he signed and you probably had a shocked face, trying to register what he signed.
"Y-You mean...." you shuttered, feeling him tug your leggings down.
'I'm not getting any younger, babygirl.'
♡  week three  —  kuroo tetsurou   |   first date
♡  summary  —   it was just a boba date, what could go wrong? apparently, everything or highschool student kuroo tetsurou finds a way to epically mess up his first date with you
♡  masterlist  ♡
Tumblr media
It was Kuroo’s first date.
No, scratch that. He had had dates before. But it was the first time he had ever asked someone out. Kuroo had managed not to stumble over his own words as he invited the libero from the girls’ volleyball team to a boba date. Kuroo waited for you after class and walked you to the gym, as your team was using the space that day. He noticed the blush on your cheeks as you agreed, trying to play it cool. He couldn’t blame you as he was trying to do just the same (he did wish he was doing a better job, though). You gave him your number and waved him off as you joined practice.
“What do you think about them?” he asked Kenma, as he walked him home after school. He hadn’t stopped talking about you in the past few weeks, bothering his friend about this joke you had made or the way he caught you staring in awe at a stray cat on the street. ‘Ask them out’, had been Kenma’s only advice (and a not-so-direct manner to shut him up). He then had watched Kuroo rehearse the question about whatever a boba date was in front of his mirror for a long time while he played with his Switch.
Kenma let out a long sigh, his eyes darting to the sky.
“They’re okay.”
“Just okay?”
“They offered me their notes one day I missed class,” Kenma remembered. Kuroo smiled and kept walking, hands in his pockets.
Tomorrow was going to be easy. He would meet you near the park and you would walk to this boba store he had found out was very popular on Instagram. You would walk around town, it would get cold and he would offer his jacket. Yes, Kuroo Tetsurou had it all planned and he was confident it was going to be a date to remember.
He really wished he had chosen his words more carefully.
Kuroo was already at the park when he realized he had forgotten his leather jacket. He cursed under his breath as he sat on one of the park’s benches. It’s going to be fine, he told himself. So what if you can’t lend her your jacket? That doesn’t mean anything. You both can still have a good time. He sighed and passed a hand across his face.
Keep it together.
He looked up at the sky and saw the grey clouds from that morning still lurking around. It had been raining for a couple of hours, but it had thankfully stopped before ruining his date. The air was cold, but it was nothing he couldn’t handle. He just had to focus on being himself, relaxing and having a good time.
“Hey!”
Kuroo turned around and saw you walking to him. It felt unreal to see you without your uniform, but he had to admit he liked it. It was like getting to know another part of yourself, a bit of what you liked and the knowledge you had dressed up knowing you were going to meet him. Still, you looked comfortable and he greeted you with a smile. He didn’t fail to notice the sweater you were carrying on one arm. Of course.
“Hey,” he replied, standing up and going to meet you. “Should we go?”
The walk to the boba store was filled with small talk and your laugh as he cracked a joke or two. He remembered why he asked you out in the first place, how your sole presence could brighten up even the grey clouds above both of you and make him forget all about the forgotten jacket. He watched you stare at the menu board and hum to yourself as you picked your order and told the girl behind the bar something he didn’t pay attention to.
“And you?”
Your voice brought him back from his daydreaming, and he finally looked at the board above both of you. His eyebrows furrowed as he noticed the different combination and options shown there. Four steps? Thirty five flavours? Wait-- did he read correctly? Thirty-five? Kuroo was convinced it would be like going to Starbucks and just now he was realizing his mistake. Who invites someone over for boba tea when they don’t know anything about those stores themselves?
“Do you like mango?” you asked, once again bringing him back to reality. “The matcha mango one is really good and kind of sweet. I think you’ll like it,” you said, offering him a smile.
“Sure, that sounds good,” he said, his eyes darting to the other options on the board. “And also a couple of chocolate chip cookies,” he told the cashier, who added it to the list.
“Oh, I love those,” you muttered to yourself, and he grinned at your excited expression. Kuroo took his wallet out to pay for your drinks.
A chill ran down his spine as he found his card slot empty. Scared, he looked in every compartment of his wallet, and then inside his jeans pockets. Nothing. A vague memory of him needing some cash and taking out the card from his wallet to go to the ATM the day before crossed his mind. Of course. He hadn’t put the card back to his pocket when he returned home.
He couldn’t face you now. Who the hell takes someone to a boba store, not only not knowing anything about boba, but also forgets his money? He counted the cash he had and realized it wasn’t enough to cover for everything. Fuck. Fuck.
“I’m so sorry, I left my card at my house,” he said, his eyes fixed on his almost empty wallet.
“Oh, it’s okay,” you say, taking out your wallet and handing your card to the girl in front of you.
“I’ll pay you back, I’m actually so sorry”, he apologized, masking his deep embarrassment with a smile. You smiled sweetly at him while shaking your head and he managed to feel even worse than before.
As you waited for your orders, you looked at how nervous Kuroo looked. He didn’t look like the confident guy who you had been talking to the past few weeks, who always had a funny remark or proud smirk when he won a debate. You nudged your shoulder at him, forcing him to look at you again.
“Hey, did you manage to talk to the science teacher about that problem he got wrong?” you asked, trying to take his mind out of it. His eyes lit up, and he started rambling about the chemistry problem he noticed the teacher had been wrong about.
You kept listening to Kuroo as he picked up your order and looked for an empty table to sit with you. He found one at the back of the store and led you there. Kuroo sat in front of you and you watched him take special care in popping the lid of his drink with the straw, as if he was scared of somehow messing it up. You hid your smile and poked the lid of your own drink, taking a sip and humming at the known flavour.
“Had you come here before?” he asked.
“No, I usually go to one that is next to my house, but this is really good. The thirty-five flavours plus the toppins really gives you a lot to choose from,” you smiled, taking another sip and munching on one of the pearls. “How is practice going?”
“It’s good. We’ve actually invited some schools over next week for practice matches, so it should be fun. How is your knee going?”
You blinked at him in surprise.
“Hey, you remembered,” you said, a smile drawing on your lips.
“Of course I did,” Kuroo said, rolling his eyes playfully. “I’m a nice person.”
“No doubt there,” you chuckled. “I’m actually feeling a lot better. I still have another appointment with the physical therapist tomorrow and--”
You proceeded to explain about how your therapy was doing and Kuroo listened to you, all his senses focused on no one but the person in front of him. He wondered if you knew about the little mannerisms you had when you talked and daydreamed about telling you all about them, only this time you would be resting in his arms. He thought about taking the hand that was resting on the table but forced the thought out of his head. No, maybe in a while. It was too soon.
Kuroo has been on dates before, sure. But it was the first time he was the one who asked someone out. His previous dates had been fun, but they had also felt like he was talking to any other friend, hence why there never was a second date. So, this newfound nervousness was tearing him apart, forcing his confident self into unknown territory. He took a sip of his drink and noticed a combination of citrus and sweetness. Somehow, knowing you had picked it made it even better. You laughed at your own joke and he smiled back, entranced by your spontaneity, being thankful you had agreed to go out with him. Maybe--
Kuroo coughed.
You kept talking, unbothered.
He coughed again.
It took a couple of seconds for you to realize he was choking.
“Oh no, water? Do I bring you water?” you asked in fear. He saw you standing up, attempting to go ask for some water, but he tapped the table, making you look back at him. Kuroo shook his head and patted his chest with force twice. He coughed inside his hand a couple more times and finally he felt the damn pearl travelling down his esophagus and the air entering his lungs once again.
You took his drink and moved the straw up, making sure he only drank liquid and handed it to him, trying to soothe him. He didn’t look at you as he drank a few more sips, mentally kicking himself for being so entranced in watching you he forgot about the damn pearls in his drink. You waited for him to take a deep breath and continued your conversation.
(You didn’t mis the way Kuroo was way more wary whenever he brought the straw to his lips).
Almost an hour later, you decided to walk around town, finding a small volleyball court behind an Elementary School. You convinced him into joining some kids playing volleyball there, who were in need of someone to set for them. He watched in awe how you laughed, even if both you and him were not used to setting for someone. By the end, the sun was setting and you said goodbye to them, getting lost in the streets of Tokyo as the night started.
The signs from the stores shined brightly against your skin, making you look even prettier than before, Kuroo noticed. He knew it was almost time to let you go, but he had to admit he didn’t want to. Still, he was thankful he had gotten over the initial awkwardness. Spending the afternoon had only taught him more things about you to like, and he wished there was a way both of you didn’t have to go back home that night.
As you were both waiting to cross the street, he thought about holding your hand again. It was a small gesture, but he thought it was enough to let you know how he felt about you, in case you had wondered about the nature of the date. There wasn’t an inch of him that wasn’t intoxicated in your existance, the sound of your laugh, the way you talked with the kids as you played volleyball with them or the way you handed him his drink after he choked. Kuroo was falling, and he was falling hard. Honestly, if he didn’t end up kissing you by the end of the night, it would only be because he wanted to take his time and do things right by you.
The traffic light changed from green to yellow and Kuroo noticed a car speeding up. He put his arm in front of you and pushed you slightly backwards, shielding you, as the car passed in front of both of you.
Immediately followed by a big splash of water staining his white shirt.
Of course. It had been raining earlier after all.
The light turned red and the rest of the people started crossing the street, a couple of people looking back at the highschool student with the wet shirt.
Okay, it was a sign. Maybe it just wasn’t a good day to go out.
Kuroo let you move him aside and grab the hem on his shirt, squeezing it and trying to get rid of all the excess water. He watched you as you did, knowing there was no point. Even if it magically dried, the water was dirty and had already left an ugly grey stain.
It was time to call off the date.
“I’m so sorry,” you whispered, squeezing his shirt as much as you could. Kuroo shook his head and gently guided your hands down. That wasn’t the way he expected to touch your hands for the first time.
“No need to be sorry, it wasn’t your fault,” he assured you, forcing a smile. “I’ll just throw this to the washing machine and it’ll be as good as new. But, um-- probably should head back now. Can’t get sick when we have those practice matches next week,” he explained, with a small shrug.
You nodded, slightly biting your lip. Before he could talk again, you took the sweater you had been holding under your arm and offered it to him.
“It’s over-sized, so it will fit you just fine,” you say, holding the sweater in front of him. You noticed the doubt in his eyes. “C’mon, I don’t want you to get sick either. And it isn’t really cold anymore, so I’ll be fine.”
Kuroo took your sweater and put it on. You had been right, it was big so it fit him nicely. Not to mention your scent was now even closer to him, a lovely mix of flowers and a bit of sweetness filling his senses. He looked at you, who were smiling softly at him and wished this date had turned out different.
“I’ll give it back to you Monday,” he promised, but you waved your hand.
“Don’t worry about it, take your time. Kind of looks nice on you,” you joked, pinching the hem of your sweater.
Why were you so sweet? You were trying for him not to feel as bad as he felt in that moment. It was probably one of the most laughable dates you had been in, he thought.
Forcing another smile, he offered to walk you to the station, to which you said it was fine. He should hurry and get home, so he didn’t catch a cold due to his wet shirt. Right. It was understandable you would want to finish the date soon.
Kuroo said his goodbyes and turned on his heel, the fake smile dropping from his face as soon as he did. He hadn’t taken more than two steps when he felt someone gripping on the sleeve of the sweater, forcing him to stop.
“Kuroo!” you called. He turned around again and faced you, his right eyebrow raising questioningly. “We should keep going back until we try all the thirty five flavours,” you said, a small smile playing on your lips.
He couldn’t stop himself from laughing, but this time, it was different. Despite everything that had happened, your eyes were still looking kindly at him, your lips slightly parted after basically asking him out on a second date.
And there wasn’t anything in the world Kuroo wanted more than that.
Before he could stop himself, he leaned down and pressed his lips against your forehead. He heard a small gasp eliciting from you, but then felt your hands closing on the sweater he was wearing. When he looked down at you again, he noticed how red your face was, all the remains of the confidence you had just shown him gone.
Kuroo smiled again. He could get used to seeing you like that.
“We should,” he agreed with a small nod.
In the middle of a busy street in Tokyo, no one paid attention to the tall highschool boy threading his fingers on your hair, but you could have sworn the whole world stopped every time Kuroo Tetsurou set his golden eyes on yours.
 I’d love to start some new plots under the cut are a few I really want rn, some could be mashed up into a mumu type thing. If you like anything, just hum or hit the heart! Please be 21+!
“hi we’re neighbours and omg are you alright i could smell cooking burning - whoaaa now that’s just embarrassing? step aside i’ll handle this”
“i live below you and i was minding my own business watching the snowfall out the window WHEN I SAW A BODY FALL ARE YOU REALLY PUTTING UP CHRISTMAS LIGHTS NOW”
Muse A tends to push everyone away, muse B is one of the few people who managed to get past their walls. They quickly became friends, and everything was going fine until they had a moment together. Muse B wanted to talk about what happened, but muse A simply wanted to pretend that it never happened – now neither of them are sure what they are to each other.
13 going on 30 plot where they were really close when they were younger, and then they both went there separate ways. and then they meet up later on, and they just start spending a lot of time together and start becoming best friends and then they slowly start to fall in love with each other (✿◠‿◠) liKE PLEASE I NEED THIS!! (Could include doing the two timelines, like them as young adults/them when they’re older)
i’d give anything for a mumu based on the secret circle (book series/short lived tv show). six young adults involved in a coven. most of them grew up together in a small, new england fishing town where everyone knows everyone. one day, they learn that they’re witches and warlocks, powers that were hidden from them because of their parents not wanting to get them involved in dark things. they’re supposed to use their powers to battle the forces of evil, to be good. what do they do instead? one makes it storm when her mother won’t buy her a new car. another changes their hair color every two weeks because they’re bored.  one of them makes it so music randomly plays whenever they walk into a room to get attention. there’s another that’s on the volleyball team at their college and they use magic to help them win. instead of using their powers for some epic battle of good and evil, they use them like any other millenial would – to get free breakfast, a few extra minutes of sleep, a nice apartment to live in, etc. we could each play three characters or maybe we have more than one mun involved but pleASE!!! someone give this to me!! i want a group of six young witches & warlocks being reckless as hell and loving life!! plus, imagine a giant brotp or poly ship?? like, PLEASE
we absolutely hate each other but we’re the romantic leads so i guess we have to make this work
i’m the stage manager and you’re the self-absorbed diva, so naturally we despise each other
A plot based on cutting edge
consider this: classic “one of the boys” girl who hangs out with the frat bros accidentally falling in love with an elle woods-esque sorority girl that she meets at a party??? muse a comes from a family w like a million older brothers so ofc she makes a beeline for the frats when she gets to college bc she feels most comfortable around boys. the only thing is, she dreads their mixers with the sorority girls bc she hates the “prissy glitter bitches” and wants to vomit whenever she sees lilly pulitzer lmao. so when muse b comes up to her at one of these mixers and introduces herself, muse a is like lol ok w/e. but to her surprise, muse b is actually like…. interesting and smart and yes definitely ridiculous but she’s still shocked that she actually has a personality. and when muse b keeps seeking her out at the mixers, muse a suddenly finds herself more and more flustered as she realizes that she has a GIANT ASS CRUSH on this girl. honestly pls just give me cute college girls in love with frat bros cheering for them in a non-gross manner
Muse A and muse B had a summer fling where they both knew it was going to end when summer did, however they both started to catch feelings and muse A’s answer to that was to kiss someone else to convince themselves they were only friends with muse B. Muse B hearing this was understandably upset and broke things off with muse A before the end of summer. They haven’t spoken with each other since but it’s summer time again and they’re now face to face with each other.
The top student in our class gets an exclusive internship and we both want it
‘popular wealthy bitch who owns the school and intimidates everybody but is secretly crushing on the soft boy with the puppy dog eyes who’s totally so unaware of it’ plot pls.
a plot like my boyfriend just broke up with me a day before new year, now i’m going to kiss the brother he hates in the new year’s eve party his parents prepared thinking the said ex was going to propose
The walls are paper thin and you just heard the brutal break up of me and my ex, and now you’re trying to comfort me through the walls and it’s kinda awkward but it’s also helping so?
The walls are paper thin and every night I watch jeopardy and I guess you’re really smart because every night you shout out the correct answer and at this point I’m not sure there’s a question you can’t answer?
The walls are paper thin and i’m not even really sure how it started but every night we have conversations about our day over dinner and at this point idk why I haven’t just invited you over?
You snuck into my apartment to avoid your ex while my door was open for groceries and I got so scared I spilled the milk everywhere?
We always see each other in the elevator during our walk of shame and it’s gotten to the point where we just share our escapades now and why haven’t we slept together yet?
We always see each other in the elevator and it’s inanely awkward because we both live on the top floor of this really tall apartment complex and we always ride in silence because the one time I tried talking to you I fucked up REALLY bad.
We always see each other in the elevator and now we’ve gotten stuck because of a power outage so really, I guess we should get to know one another at this point.
Love Me Blue | Bucky Barnes x Reader (Rasleela)
MY MASTERLIST
Series Masterlist
Summary: Perhaps Bucky Barnes is the Krishna to your Radha.
Word Count: 3800+
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Tamilian!Hindu!Reader, Sam Wilson
Warnings: References to Hinduism, PTSD, Endgame References.
A/N: This is my entry for @bucky-smiles‘s 3K Diversity Writing Challenge! My prompt was to write a fic with a Hindu reader. I decided to write this fic with a Tamilian reader because I am Tamilian. I was born in Sri Lanka and my mother’s side of the family are Hindu. Although I consider myself an agnostic theist, I do enjoy reading the epics of Mahabharata and Ramayana. Pic from Pinterest! <3 Divider by @whimsicalrogers!
Tumblr media
The more Bucky Barnes read about Hinduism, the more intrigued he became about how a highly skilled former SHIELD agent had retained her faith even after living through the literal end of the world. After Thanos and the Infinity War, and losing Tony and Natasha, it came as a surprise to him that you still continued to uphold the religious traditions that you were raised with. You could have easily walked away from them, but it was the fact that you chose not to do so that made Bucky realize how strong you were.
From maintaining a strict vegetarian diet to starting your day with the morning chants, the way your daily life was filled with your faith… it was refreshing to see, especially during a time when people were not always that religious. Nowadays when he awoke at dawn, he would hear the usual chants of the Sri Venkateswara Suprabhatam being recited next door, and he could not deny that it gave him the same kind of comfort as it did to you.
Whenever the rest of the team were gone on missions, he often joined you in your living quarters for breakfast, and it was safe to say that he had taken a liking to the hearty South Indian vegetarian meal that he could often expect from you. In a way, he often looked forward to the days when the two of you were alone at the compound. Usually, that included cooking together and talking about your life in India and his time in Wakanda. Other times, you found yourself working out together; you were even sparring partners.
It was no secret that the two of you had been spending quite a lot of time together, and the Avengers were not completely oblivious to the sparks that were flying between you and the super soldier every time you were in the same room. As much as you hated to admit it to yourself, when Wanda pressed on during one of your many girls’ nights, you confessed that you did feel something for Bucky. You had brushed it off as your inner history nerd being fascinated by a man who fought in the Second World War, but you knew better than that. Wanda knew as well; she could read minds, after all.
Sam had also noticed that Bucky had started to come out of his shell ever since you had arrived at the compound, and he could never pass up an opportunity to tease him about it. “So, you’ve been in a good mood lately…” He pointed out to his friend during one workout session.
Bucky knew where Sam was getting at, but a part of him refused to give him the satisfaction of being right. “It must be the extra sleep I’ve been getting.” He admitted, genuinely.
It was partially true, as his sleep has improved a lot since he had first moved into the compound. Between working together with the compound’s newly hired in-house therapist and spending time with you, it seemed that his nerves had finally calmed down.
“Does Y/N have anything to do with that?” He asked, batting his eyelashes in a rather teasing manner.
This caused the supersoldier to become flushed, and he quickly looked away to hide the sheepish grin on his lips. “Possibly.” He could not lie about how your arrival at the compound had certainly lifted his spirits; in a world where he had assumed that he was on his own, you had been the one to show him that he wasn’t alone and he did not want to be alone again.
Sam knew damn well that you and Bucky were one and the same. Both of you had faced tremendous loss, and had given up on fighting in hopes of finding peace, only to be pulled back into the fight again. He could not deny that the two of you would make a good pair, as different as you were.
When he had asked Bucky if he had any intentions to ask you out, that was when Bucky had even considered asking you out. Not that he worried that you would reject him; he was just unsure that it was the right time. Despite defeating Thanos, the world was still in shock from the blip and it seemed unfair of him that he wanted to move on from that. But he knew better than to let these anxieties get the worst of him. He had seen enough war and suffering; it was time for him to put his happiness before all.
Needless to say, you made him very happy.
He had told Sam of his plan on asking you out, but he wanted to plan the most perfect date for the two of you. He wanted to ask you out when he knew what your first date would be, and so he hoped to find out more about what you wanted when it came to your love life.
Tumblr media
It was during one of your many late night chats by the lake when you had found yourself staring up at the starlit sky, your peacock print scarf wrapped over your shoulders as you pulled your knees up to your chest.
Bucky had been pacing back and forth across the gazebo, trying to find the right words to say even though he did not want to be direct. “Hey Y/N, can I ask you something?”
The sound of his voice snapped you out of your thoughts, and you turned over to face him. “If it’s about the Cold War, I can’t answer that.”
This made him chuckle softly, and certainly put his nerves at ease. “Oh? And here I thought that you knew your history.” He teased, as always.
Laughing softly, you stood up from your seat on the bench and walked up to him. “I do know my history, but I’ve got my mind on the present at the moment.” You admitted, honestly.
Who were you kidding? When you first met this man, you did have your mind on history. You were fascinated by the Howling Commando who fought alongside Captain America; he was merely a historical figure to you.
But now in the present, you could not deny that he was much more than that. He was a friend, a companion, someone you had become quite fond of. You did not know how to describe it; but you could not deny that you saw a glimpse of Lord Krishna in his eyes. He sure had the charm, and the mystery, but your own fear of loss had held you back from acting on what you felt for him.
“Speaking of the moment, that brings me back to my question.” He rolled his eyes at you rather playfully. “What’s Rasleela?”
Your eyes grew wide at his question. “Rasleela?”
“I looked up one of the paintings in your apartment.” He responded with a shrug.
Ever since he had spent that night at your apartment, Bucky had been frequently asking you questions about the various paintings and idols of Lord Krishna that you had kept in your living quarters. He had explained that his fascination with your religion had stemmed from the fact that he had lived in Wakanda and had experienced their culture as well; and it had caused him to become curious of all of the traditions that you followed.
Of course, you had no problem sharing with him the context behind the paintings around your home. The story of Radha and Krishna was always close to your heart, and you certainly appreciated being able to share them with someone else. It was no secret that sharing these love stories with Bucky had only contributed to your feelings towards him, but you did not want to get ahead of yourself like that. You were technically his boss, after all.
“Rasleela… well, the literal meaning of it is ‘the dance of divine love’ but that’s quite a mouthful.” You admitted, laughing softly. “The painting I have in my apartment shows Lord Krishna and Radha dancing under the stars, doesn’t it? My grandmother told me that it happens in one night, when Lord Krishna hides in the forest and plays his flute. All the girls in his village get so mesmerized by it… they follow the music into the forest and they go searching for him. When they find him, they dance all night. It’s a celebration of love, really… the dancing.”
“But why are there so many women who danced with him?” He asked. “Why is he dancing with all of them when Radha was the one he loved?”
“Believe it or not, he was quite the playboy.” You replied, your lips curling into a smirk as you crossed your arms against your chest. “He loved Radha the most, but every girl in the village still loved him.”
“So, you have a thing for playboys, huh?”
“I have a thing for Lord Krishna.” You replied in a rather teasing manner. “I mean, I’m devoted to Lord Krishna. But when it comes to my love life… I want someone to love me like Lord Krishna loved Radha.”
As messed up as the world was, this wish of yours had never changed. Ever since you were a little girl in South India listening to your grandmother’s stories, you fell in love with Lord Krishna and the pure love that he held for Radha. This kind of love was unconditional, and undying.
“Would you ever want to have your own Rasleela, Y/N?” Bucky asked you, rather curiously.
“What?”
“Dance all night, under the stars, celebrate love… would you ever want to be a part of something like that?” He asked.
You thought for a moment, wondering if you could ever be a part of something so magical. “I mean, I doubt that I would ever experience something so magical. But if I found someone to be my Krishna, I guess I won’t be opposed to it.” And you meant that.
Frankly, he knew exactly what you meant too.
Tumblr media
When you woke up the next morning, it was way past dawn. You had turned on the usual morning chants on your phone, and hooked it up to the speakers. While the chants were playing in the background, you made your way over to the bathroom to clean yourself up and get ready for your prayers. But when you made your way over towards your shrine, you had noticed that the footprints that you had painted from your front door were no longer there.
You hadn’t taken them off, so it made you wonder who would have managed to scrape all of that paint off of the tiles. But when you made your way over to the front door and opened it, you were greeted by a surprise.
It was a box, rectangular and tied with a giant red bow. You looked around the hallway before picking it up, wondering who would have left this as you closed the door behind you. As curious as you were about what was in that box, you did not open it right away. You had to head to work, since Rhodey and Wanda had just returned from a mission.
When you arrived to make yourself some breakfast, the dining area had been rather empty. Most of the team had eaten and left, but the table had been set for one; it had a plate that was covered with a lid and a sticky note with your name on it.
“Well, this morning has been full of surprises, hasn’t it?” You said to yourself as you sat down on the table and removed the lid, seeing a freshly prepared dosa and onion chutney on the plate. “It sure has…”
At that moment, you knew damn well who was responsible for the neatly wrapped box at your door and the South Indian breakfast surprise; other than yourself, there was only one other person here at the compound who knew how to make South Indian food, and he had been acting a little suspicious lately.
You had eaten your breakfast in quiet, constantly paying attention to your surroundings in hopes that Bucky would return to the dining area to ensure that you were eating the meal he had left behind for you. But to your disappointment, he did not show. As a matter of fact, the last time you saw him had been when you had returned to your living quarters following your nightly chat by the lake.
The rest of the day went by as you were swarmed with mission reports and briefings, and the whole time Bucky was nowhere to be found. Not that he had to be a part of them, as he hadn’t been taking part in missions just yet. But it was safe to say that you could not go this long without seeing him.
Of course, you could have asked your team if they had seen Bucky anywhere. If he wasn’t at the compound, you knew that he would have at least told someone where he went. Truth be told, your pride had just gotten in the way of you just blatantly admitting to someone that you were looking for him. You could just picture the look on Sam’s eyes when you asked him where Bucky was.
“Took you long enough.” Sam muttered when you entered his living quarters. “I’ve been expecting you all morning, Y/N.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” You asked, crossing your arms as you looked over at him in utter confusion.
“You’re looking for the cyborg, aren’t ya?”
You nodded. “Yeah, I am. I haven’t seen him all day, and he left breakfast for me. I figured that I would ask you where I could find him. Is he okay?”
“He’s fine.” He replied, giving you a reassuring smile. “He’s just hiding from you.”
“Then where is he?” You asked, wondering what was going on with the supersoldier. “What? Why?”
“He left on his Harley at sunrise while I was going on my run. He didn’t tell me where he was headed, just that he needed to stay hidden until nightfall and that you would know where to find him.” He replied with a shrug. “Something about ‘following the music’ or whatever. I had no idea what he meant by that.”
Your cheeks flushed at his words before you shook your head. “God, I should have known that he was up to something when he asked me what he did last night.” You admitted, sighing.
“What did he ask you?”
“Nothing you should know about.” You replied with a wink. “Did he say anything else, by the way?”
“Just that you would know where he is… and that you should just ‘follow the music’ if you didn’t know. Don’t get me wrong, I have no idea what that means. But if you want, I can help you track him down.” He offered. “Honestly. I don’t know what goes on in that cyborg brain of his.”
You wanted to consider Sam’s offer, but you knew that it was best not to. Clearly, Bucky had known that you would find him; it even seemed that he wanted you to. As much as you want to let Sam get involved, and you understood his good heart for offering, you wanted this to be a lot more personal. Besides, Agent Y/L/N was not someone who would back away from a challenge.
“It’s fine, Sam.” You shrugged him off. “If he wants me to go on a wild goose chase, then I guess that’s what I’ll do. It’s not like I have a team of superheroes to oversee or anything like that.”
The Falcon chuckled at that. “I’ve always known that something was up with the two of you.” He admitted, genuinely. Having watched you at your lowest, he wanted nothing more than for you to find happiness, especially with someone like Bucky. “You like him, don’t you?”
You nodded. “Yeah, I do.” You confessed, feeling your cheeks heat up once again. “I mean, I don’t think I know how to keep that a secret. We have been spending a lot of time together lately, and I’m sure people are starting to notice.”
Not that you cared about what anyone might think. Being the supervising officer to the Avengers did not mean that you had to stray away from meeting your personal needs. You had all survived an apocalypse; the least you could do is be happy.
“I know he likes you too, Y/N. He can’t seem to shut up about you, and I hope that everything works out for you.” He grinned as he pulled you into an embrace. “You deserve it.”
You gave him a nod as you hugged him back. “Thanks, Sam. I know that… I’ve been hard on myself ever since… what happened. But I know now that Bucky’s not the bad guy in my story. He never was, and maybe… maybe it won’t be so bad. Maybe the bad things in my life are over.”
Sam nodded understandingly, still not letting go of the hug. “Have you told him yet?” He asked, certainly worried about his two close friends.
You shook your head. “No, I haven’t told him. I didn’t know how to. How am I supposed to tell him that I misunderstood him? Or that there was a time when I wanted nothing more than to kill him?”
Looking back at that time only broke your heart, and your eyes glazed over. You knew that Bucky would never judge you if he ever found out about your past, but you could not get yourself to share this with him. You did not know how to.
“You know that wasn’t your fault, Y/N.” He reminded you. “Just like it wasn’t his fault either.”
You nodded. “Yeah, I know that now. But I can’t help but feel guilty sometimes. Bucky’s one of the sweetest, kindest, and gentlest people I’ve ever  met. I just feel awful about believing what everyone was saying about him. I should have known better. I should have believed Steve.”
Pulling back from the hug, Sam quickly wiped away your tears. “Y/N, come on… there’s no point in feeling shitty about the past. Bucky likes you. You like Bucky. Just focus on the present for now, okay? You and I both know that Bucky’s the last person who would judge you for what happened, and if he found out about what you’ve been through, I know for a fact that it wouldn’t change anything. You have nothing to worry about, okay?”
“Okay.” You sighed, knowing that he was right. “I should probably go and find him.”
“Yeah, you do that.” He agreed, chuckling softly before leaning over to kiss your forehead. “Be happy, Y/N.”
“Thanks, Sam.”
Tumblr media
When you exited Sam’s living quarters, you headed back to your own. Remembering that the footprints in your living room had been removed, you wondered if it could be Bucky’s doing. You and Bucky had been talking well into the late hours of the night before you decided to head back to your living quarters, and he had walked you back to yours the whole way. You could not remember if Bucky had come inside with you, but he certainly could have come in with you and helped you into bed before he had scraped the footprints off.
But if so, why would he do that?
What did Bucky mean when he had told Sam that you would know where he was? What did he mean by ‘follow the music’? Why did he ask you about Rasleela last night?
You suddenly remembered the box that you had found at your doorstep that morning, and you rushed over to open it. Inside was a dark blue lace dress that was straight out of the 1940s, and a handwritten note from Bucky.
Tumblr media
If you would let me be the Krishna to your Radha, I’ll show you how we did ‘Rasleela’ back in my day. -Bucky
Reading the note only made your cheeks heat up once again. You had been expecting him to pull something like this on you since the moment he had even asked you about the meaning of Rasleela in the first place. But you hadn’t expected him to be this fast.
It did not take you long to figure out where he was. After all, Sam had mentioned that Bucky had left the compound pretty early. With his clue to ‘follow the music’ and the message he had left on that note, it was all pretty clear to you.
Being a history major, you had always been fond of how much New York City had changed since the days of the Great Depression. When you had first met Steve Rogers and taken him on a tour around Manhattan, he had mentioned to you of how different it had been back in the day.
You had been the first one to find out about how Peggy had asked him to meet her at the Stork Club for their date, which Steve hadn’t been able to make. Seventy years later, you had offered to take him to the place where the Stork Club used to be.
It was a pocket park now, with the club being demolished and replaced with an artificial waterfall and several benches. You and Steve had sat there for hours, and he had shared with you all the stories about how Bucky would drag him out there to go dancing with some girls he met.
What a playboy he must have been back then?
Before you knew it, you had slipped into the dress that Bucky had given you and were heading towards Paley Park in hopes that you could find him there. As it was a four hour drive from the compound to the heart of Manhattan, you found yourself bringing out one of your favourite toys.
A present from your former mentor and SHIELD Supervising Officer Agent Phil Coulson, Lola was a cherry red 1962 Chevrolet Corvette that was upgraded with some of Howard Stark’s, and then Tony Stark’s technologies. Steve used to tell you that Howard had once promised to create flying cars at one of the Stark Expos, and Lola was the closest thing that came to that; in flight mode, the wheels folded down and there was a hover-capable propulsion system that replaced them.
Knowing of Bucky’s interest in flying cars through Steve, you could only hope that he would be excited to see you arriving in Lola when you pulled up to Paley Park. Frankly, the four hour drive to the city was now cut short, thanks to Lola. Oh how you loved Phil for letting you take his car after him. Even though you were only using her for leisurely purposes, Lola made you feel some kind of power. After all, if you could drive a flying car, you could pretty much do anything else in the world.
John Tracy was sick.
Which meant John Tracy wasn’t allowed to go home.
Sure, he could say that he was home, but it didn’t really feel like home. It was full of brothers and people he loved, but it didn’t feel like home.
Home was among the stars.
But apparently astronauts with the flu weren’t allowed to go home.
“It won’t be for long, John. It will be over before you know it.” Virgil was kind and reassuring, but it didn’t really help.
He wanted to go home.
He was determined to work, of course. Until Scott caught him and cut him off.
There were some loud words over that, but the medical department of IR (aka Virgil) sided with the command department (aka Scott) and yeah, he was grounded, cut off from his ‘bird, holed up in his room and miserable.
Of course, his brothers attempted to cheer him up. Alan dumped himself on his bed chattering away with his latest game, all eager enthusiasm. Gordon brought him a pet crab. Even cared for it for him. John was left wondering if it was a snarky metaphor as the crab sat under a rock all day and had a distinct grumpy appearance.
Virgil and Scott were more subtle, but no less caring. Scott ran ideas past him for communications improvements. Piano music and the occasional piece of art found its way into his rooms uninvited.
He appreciated it. Truly, he did.
He just wanted to go home.
The morning he woke up with a cat sleeping on his chest was the last straw.
“C’mon, guys. You know I’m allergic to cats. Are your trying to kill me?” He held the cat out at arm’s length just waiting for his nasal passages to swell up. Though at this point considering his condition, he wasn’t really sure he would notice.
The cat meowed pitifully at him.
Virgil frowned.
Scott arched an eyebrow.
Gordon looked guilty....but then he always looked guilty. John was sure it was an inbuilt survival strategy.
Alan was cooing at the cat and reaching out to scratch it under the chin.
It was an orange stripy thing with big whiskers and that ragdoll floppiness all cats sported.
“Gordon?” Scott’s arched eyebrow was now pointed at the aquanaut.
“What are you looking at me for? I got him the crab, why would I get him a cat? The cat will eat the crab.” Gordon frowned at John. “Don’t let the cat eat the crab.”
Not a sentence John had ever predicted hearing in his lifetime.
“Can someone please take this thing?” He held out the cat even further.
Virgil, still frowning, gently collected the cat from John’s hands and automatically curled it up in his arms. A finger scratched under its chin.
“Thank you. I’m going back to bed.”
And he did.
The next time he woke, a pair of green feline eyes were staring at him, the cat, once again, curled up on his chest.
What?
It meowed at him and poked his nose with a paw.
“Virgil!”
He must have yelled a little too much because next minute his big brother barrelled into the room, panic on his face. “John, what the-?!”
His eyes landed on the cat and his shoulders literally sagged. “Goddamnit, that’s where you are. I’ve been looking for you for hours.” Virgil reached to pick up the cat.
The cat turned from mild mannered bed companion to spitting and screeching demon within a blink. Virgil yelped and fell backwards, his feet slipping on the mat and his butt hitting the floor with a crash.
One of John’s telescopes teetered before tipping ever so slowly. Virgil saw it and struggled to catch it. “Shiiit!” He threw himself in its path and the four-foot metal cylinder landed in his lap.
There was an oomph and Virgil was flat on his back on the floor.
Demon cat kneaded John’s chest a little before settling once more.
It began to purr.
“Virgil? You okay?”
His brother grunted and John struggled out of bed, shoving the cat out of the way. “Virgil?”
“I’m good.” It was up an octave higher than normal. “Sorry about your telescope.”
John grabbed the telescope off his brother and righted it. It was his own fault for leaving it there in the first place. Stargazing from bed was a habit much more easily exercised on TB5.
Virgil waved off his offered hand and rolled over, pushing himself to his feet with another grunt. He eyed the cat with suspicion. “I thought we had an understanding, Bagel.”
The cat eyed Virgil with equal suspicion.
“Bagel?”
“Gordon claims it is your cat so needs a John name.”
“A John name?”
“Yeah, Bagel it is.”
“It’s not my cat! And where did it come from anyway?” John frowned at Virgil. “Another stowaway on Two.”
“No! You know we have sensors for that now. And besides, that was only once.”
“Twice.”
“Once. The polar bear doesn’t count.”
“The polar bear most assuredly does count. Alan still hasn’t forgiven you.”
“Really?”
“It was a polar bear, Virgil.”
“Yeah, well, that is your cat.”
“That is not my cat.”
“Apparently she has decided she is yours.” Virgil held up his hands. Several scratches decorated his skin. “I have enough of these already. She’s yours.”
“I’m allergic.”
Virgil peered up at him, brown eyes assessing. “You don’t appear to be suffering a reaction. She’s been gone for hours. If she has been here, on your chest all that time, you should be showing the affects. All I can see is the remains of your flu.” A frown. “Are you feeling any better?”
It was John’s turn to frown. He had almost forgotten he was ill, but now his attention returned to his body, the signs were clear.
But he was feeling a little better.
“A little.”
Virgil reached up and squeezed his arm. “Good. You hungry?”
A brief consultation with his stomach and he realised that yes, he was. “Yes, I think so.”
A smile spread over his brother’s face. “Great. You’re on the mend.” Another squeeze of his arm and Virgil turned towards the door. “Meet you in the kitchen. Scott went all out this morning and made pancakes. I stashed you some. Gotta grab them before Gordon discovers them.”
“FAB.” John couldn’t help but return his brother’s smile.
Virgil grinned and with a half-hearted groan rubbed his butt and staggered with some exaggeration out the door. “Don’t forget your cat.”
John turned back to stare at the ginger monstrosity still sitting on his bed, calmly grooming.
“Bagel, is it?”
The cat blinked and kept licking its fur.
John sighed and grabbed his clothes.
-o-o-o-
The cat followed him downstairs for the meal, which turned out to be dinner. He had managed to sleep the day away. Apparently, this was a good thing, because for the first time in days, he could move without creaking.
Virgil had indeed stashed pancakes and within minutes there was a short stack piled up in front of him complete with ice cream and maple syrup. Before he even bothered to acknowledge the envy emanating from Gordon across the other side of the table, the stack began to disappear.
Scott knew how to make pancakes. John considered his big brother’s purpose in life and came to the immediate conclusion that it should be IR, family and pancakes.
Of course, pancakes could be a subset of family if considered that way, but there was always the possibility of him opening a business as a pancake chef.
Blink.
Yes, the flu had obviously taken part of his brain with it.
A pair of blue eyes and two pairs of brown were staring at him.
“What?”
“Did you bother to breathe between bites, bro?” Gordon gestured with his head at the table.
John looked down and found his plate empty. “Guess I was hungry. Scott makes great pancakes.”
“Yes, he does.” Virgil plonked a glass of orange juice in front of him and took away his sticky plate. “Now drink your juice and we’ll set up for family movie.”
“Aren’t you guys going to eat?”
“Already eaten.” Scott was poking at his phone, holograms bouncing around above it. “Grandma made meatloaf surprise again.”
John choked on his juice. “Really?”
“Uh-huh.” Scott did look a little green around the gills.
Well, that explained the envy on Gordon’s face and why Alan was very absent.
“Anyone feed the youngest?”
“All under control.” Virgil chucked Gordon a celery crunch bar and the aquanaut grabbed it from the air.
It was devoured faster than John’s pancakes.
Virgil wandered back into the kitchen proper and soon there was the delicious smell of hot popcorn wafting through the room. The engineer walked past the table again and dumped a chocolate bar in front of Scott. Another one landed in front of John.
“Consider it a survivor’s reward.” Virgil grabbed Scott’s phone out of his hand.
“Hey!”
“Stop working, this is family time. Everything can wait a couple of hours.”
Scott glared at his brother, but grabbed the chocolate bar and capitulated anyway.
Probably because he knew Virgil was right. It was so easy to get absorbed with International Rescue business. John knew he was a fantastic example case of such a syndrome.
A sigh.
Scott glanced up at him. “How are you doing, John?” A smirk. “How’s Bagel?”
As if beckoned, the cat in question suddenly leapt up on to the table and stalked the length of it towards Scott. John’s eyes widened as his eldest brother was targeted by a feline glare of epic proportions.
Scott’s expression was quite an amusing mixture and defiance and terror. Bagel sat down in front of him and after a moment of intense eyeballing decided Scott was boring and started washing herself.
“That is one weird cat, John.”
Everyone jumped as Bagel shot to her feet and dashed across the table at Gordon. “Holy crap!” The aquanaut scrambled backwards as Bagel ran at him. He tangled his feet in the stool he was sitting on and with a crash, ended up on the floor.
“Ow.”
Reaching the edge of the table, Bagel stopped and peered down at the fallen Thunderbird and, apparently deciding Gordon was no more interesting than Scott, sat down and returned to grooming.
The remaining three vertical brothers stared at each other and the cat.
No one said a thing.
“Uh, can someone give me a hand up, here?” Gordon vaguely waved an arm about and Virgil edged around the table to help his brother up.
His eyes barely left Bagel.
“Has anyone fed the cat?” John threw the question in there as a bit of an icebreaker since said cat had frozen the room almost solid.
Bagel looked up and stared at John for a moment before jumping to her feet and ambling over. A simple step off the table and she was in his lap, circling for moment to find a comfortable spot, then curling up and purring.
Again, everyone was staring at the orange fluff ball, John included.
“You have a very strange cat.” Apparently, Gordon hadn’t learnt from his earlier experience, but fortunately, Bagel ignored him this time.
John stared down at the purring ball of fur.
Yes, it seems he did.
-o-o-o-
Despite the possessed cat, the rest of the night went very well. All five brothers plus Kayo threw down some pillows, curled up in front of the holoprojector and waded through a trashy b-grade movie that looked like they were using mannequins for actors and plastic models for set pieces. There was popcorn, laughter and loving family. John felt warm and relaxed and better than he had in days. Somewhere between action scenes, he drifted off to the tinny soundtrack and the sound of his brothers criticising the special effects.
“Johnny?” It was whispered “Johnny, you’ve got to move or you’ll end up with one hell of a neckache.”
A blink and he found himself looking at Virgil upside down. Wha-?
“C’mon, bro. Up you get.” And his brother was lifting him up. Another blink and he realised he was lying on one of the couches...almost upside down, his feet at an angle above his head with his head hanging off the seat cushion. He was far too long for the piece of furniture and, apparently, he had stretched in his sleep.
Virgil was shifting his shoulders into a more horizontal position. Beyond him, the holoprojector was listing all the languages the movie was available in, complete with appropriate copyright warnings. Idly he noted that the Hungarian translation had an error in the third line.
John let his feet drop to the end of the couch before folding up enough to force himself upright. Ugh, Virgil was right. His neck cricked and creaked along with his spine. God, gravity was a nasty piece of work. It had also apparently dribbled all the mucus in his body into his head. His skull protested at the pressure as he sat up and he groaned.
“John?”
Why did everyone think Scott was the worry wart of the family? Virgil with his medical radar was just as bad, if not worse. “I’m fine. Just a head full of snot.” Ugh. Right between his eyeballs, throbbing to the beat of his heart. “Just kill me now.”
Suddenly there was an orange cat in his face, staring.
“What? Bagel, not now.” He gently picked up the cat and put her on the couch beside him. Where the hell had she come from anyway?
A pitiful meow was her response and she edged nearer brushing her cheek against his arm.
Despite himself, he turned to her. “What’s wrong?”
She looked up at him with a combination of adoration and haughtiness. He had no idea what to make of that expression.
Of course, she was a cat. Who understood cats?
“Are you two having a moment?” His brother’s smiling baritone broke the silence and to John’s surprise, Bagel turned to Virgil and hissed angrily.
His big brother took a hurried step back.
“Bagel! Leave him alone! He will never hurt you. For goodness sake, Virgil wouldn’t hurt a fly. Give him some respect.”
To his complete surprise, Bagel stopped hissing immediately. She turned to him almost a question on her face before once again looking at Virgil. Her head dropped and stared at the floor.
“What the hell?” It was little more than breath and all his big brother. Virgil was staring at Bagel, his brow crumpling into a deep frown.
Bagel’s head shot up and once again she was staring at Virgil.
Virgil’s frown got even deeper.
“John where did you get this cat from?”
“I told you, I don’t know. I’ve never seen her before in my life.”
Virgil continued his staring contest with the cat.
“What is it?” His brother’s expression was becoming unnerving, so suddenly determined, it was almost fierce.
“I don’t know.” A pause. “Keep her out of sensitive areas for me, will you?”
“Sure.”
Bagel continued to stare at Virgil.
Virgil continued to stare at Bagel.
A solid moment passed and then his brother was shaking his head, looking at his feet, looking at John. “You good to make it up to your rooms?”
“Yeah.”
“I need to go hunt down Scott. One of the TI directors in the States forgot the time zones. He’s been on the phone for half an hour already.” Virgil sighed.
“Need backup?”
“No.” A hand dropped to John’s shoulder. “You go to bed, you need it. I’ve got this.” The hand disappeared and Virgil climbed out of the lounge, heading towards the balcony.
Bagel was licking her paw.
John sighed. Perhaps some paracetamol would help. “C’mon, Bagel, apparently, you’re with me.” He picked her up and held her against his chest as he staggered to his feet. Cursed gravity. How he missed being able to make the smallest movements and coast across a room.
Bagel reached her head up and snuggled under his chin, her purr vibrating his sternum.
“Why me?” It was little more than an exhaled breath and he wasn’t sure it was a complaint or an actual question.
In either case, Bagel didn’t answer. She just purred into his chest.
So, it remained a mystery for another night.
-o-o-o-
“It just appeared. No trace on sensors, nothing. It’s as if it didn’t exist before the day before yesterday.”
Virgil’s puzzled voice echoed up the stairs as John approached the kitchen the next morning. He glanced at his watch. This was early for his brother; he usually wasn’t up for another hour at least.
“I’m telling you, Scott, there is something very strange about that cat.”
John paused at the top of the stairs, his hands curled around Bagel, gently scratching her under the chin. He had awoken again with her on his chest, but unlike the previous two incidents, he had found himself surprisingly comforted with her presence.
Her purring was strangely calming.
“I will admit she is quite volatile.” Scott’s voice was surprisingly reluctant. “She didn’t even take to Gordon. Every living creature takes to Gordon. Except lizards, I guess. Hell, she doesn’t even like you.”
“That’s just it. She doesn’t act like a cat.”
“What, just because she doesn’t like you?”
“I’m sorry, Scott. Something just doesn’t feel right. Why is she so attached to John? What if she is a plant after our technology?”
“A tech seeking cat? Really?”
“Wouldn’t be the first time an animal has been used for espionage.”
Scott sighed and John shifted, attempting to loosen the tense muscles in his shoulders.
“It’s just that John appears to have latched onto Bagel as much as the cat has to him. How often does John attach to anybody?”
“And that’s what scares me the most. What happens when he returns to TB5? He can’t take a cat with him. It wouldn’t be safe for either of them.”
“Then we look after Bagel for him.”
It was Virgil’s turn to sigh and it was a worried one.
John chose that moment to make his entrance. He stepped lightly down the stairs. “You two really do worry far too much.”
Both brothers started as he entered. The guilty expressions on their faces were quite amusing.
“Virgil, if you are worried about Bagel, scan her.” John held the cat out to his brother. “Take her up to the infirmary and run her through a thorough physical. In fact, I would prefer if you did since as you said, I have become somewhat attached to her. As to what we are going to do when I return to Five...” He shrugged. “I hope we can work something out.”
Virgil managed to look both apologetic and sad.
To John’s astonishment, Bagel wriggled out of his grip and jumped down to the floor. She ambled over to Virgil. His brother froze, obviously wary, but the cat gently brushed up against his leg and rubbed the length of her body across his boots.
The whole room stared.
“Good morning, Bagel.” Virgil’s voice was a little breathless.
“Good morning, Virgil.” The whole room jumped as Brains jogged down the stairs and passing them, bee-lined for the fridge.
“‘Morning, Brains, John.” Gordon wandered in from the pool rubbing a towel through his hair. “Yaargh! What the hell, Virgil. You gone to the cat side?” He took several steps back as he caught sight of Bagel.
Bagel, still wrapped around Virgil’s ankles, turned towards Gordon and spat at him.
“That damn cat is possessed.” The aquanaut made sure the table was between him and the feline.
Bagel glared at him, following with her eyes.
“Eos, I know G-Gordon can b-be a challenge, b-but really, h-he is a good man.” Brains was pouring milk into his cereal on the bench.
“Yes, but he is so annoying.” The AI’s voice bounced across the house’s comm system.
“He st-still deserves r-respect.”
The comm system grunted.
Every eye in the room stared at the engineer.
Gordon found his voice first. “Wow, Brains, thanks.”
John was staring at Bagel. “Eos what do you know about Bagel?”
“Oh, John, everything.” The little imp was so smug.
Two strides and John was beside Virgil. Reaching down, he snagged Bagel off the floor and held her up, his eyes raking over the cat. A moment of intense examination. Bagel stared back at him calmly.
“Okay, how did you do it?”
“Do what, John?”
“Do not mess with me, Eos. I want answers and I want them now.”
“Hiram helped me.”
“Helped you do what?” Scott’s voice was sharp. “Brains?”
“It was a v-very interesting challenge.”
“What did you do, Brains?” Commander Tracy stood up from the table, his height saying everything it needed to.
Brains didn’t notice.
“Oh, Eos had an e-excellent idea to equip Thunderbird F-Five with an internal m-mobile probe mechanism.
“Yes, something that could get into the spaces John cannot.” Still smug. Oh, there would be some serious talking at a later time.
“So, you built a cat.” Virgil’s eyes were wide.
Brains sipped his orange juice, still seemingly unaware of the tension in the room. “She didn’t think I could. So, I did.” He was definitely pleased with himself.
“You built a cat?” Gordon was an echo of his brother. “That cat?” He stabbed a finger in Bagel’s direction.
“Yes?” Finally, the man appeared to realise that something was amiss. “I’m v-very happy with the r-results. It performs v-very well.”
It certainly did. John had her under his arm and found himself scratching her under her chin despite everything.
He forced himself to stop.
“John?”
“Yes, Eos?”
“Do you like her?” Suddenly he was a parent faced with his child’s school science project and the need for approval.
Some science project.
“I like her, Eos.”
“Can we keep her?”
“That is yet to be decided.” It came out firm. It needed to be firm...even though he already knew the answer.
“But-“
“Eos, why didn’t you tell us Bagel wasn’t really a cat?”
“But she is...”
“Eos.”
“John...”
“Eos!”
“I missed you.”
He froze. “I’m right here.”
“But it’s not the same.” That was a definite whine. “You’re not with me. It gets lonely up here without you. So, I built a way to be down there with you.” Bagel rubbed her cheek against his hand.
“Eos is in the cat?” Gordon’s jaw may as well have been on the floor. “She hates me that much?!”
“I don’t hate you, Gordon. You are quite funny. Somewhat clumsy, but funny.”
“Eos.”
“Yes, John?”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
No answer.
“Brains, why didn’t you tell us?” Commander Tracy was glaring at the engineer.
“T-Tell you what?”
“About Eos and the cat.”
“That would have r-ruined the experiment.”
“What?”
“Eos w-wanted to see if the f-feline programming was sufficient. The b-best way to do that was test it.”
“On us?” Gordon spouted outrage.
“Surprisingly only V-Virgil appears to have b-been concerned. I w-would be interested to hear your evaluation.”
“Sure.” Virgil appeared to still be processing. Probably attempting to work out exactly how Brains had pulled it off.
“Brains, you, Eos, John and I are going to have a serious conversation.” Scott’s voice was stern. “This is not happening again. This family is not an experimental lab.”
“It was not his fault, Commander.”
Scott arched an eyebrow up at the ceiling. “Really, Eos? I have no doubt that John has a few choice words to be said on this matter.” Oh, yes, choice and many. “In the meantime, please cease the experiment.”
“But-“
“Eos.”
“Very well.”
The cat in John’s arms went completely limp.
He couldn’t help it; a gasp passed his lips and he caught the sudden dead weight with both hands. “Eos!”
All life had left Bagel. She became nothing more than a lifeless corpse. Something inside him lurched horribly.
Every eye in the room was staring at him.
“John?” Virgil’s eyes flashed concern.
He gathered up the cat in his arms and gently placed her on the seat of one of the kitchen chairs.
So real. He shivered.
“You okay?” His big brother was suddenly beside him.
“That was unnerving.” Both of them stared at the immobile TB5 internal remote probe mechanism.
“Eos, can you please reactivate Bagel.”
“Virgil-“
“No, Scott. Too creepy, too real. Please, just...leave her be.”
To John’s surprise, Scott didn’t protest.
But Bagel didn’t move.
“Eos?” His own voice sounded hollow in his ears.
“Yes, John?”
“Please reactivate Bagel.”
“Why?”
“Eos, just please.”
“Very well.”
And Bagel uncurled herself, sat up and glared at Scott. Before Eos could exact any form of petulant revenge, he grabbed Bagel off the chair and held her in his arms.
“Thank you, Eos.”
“You are very welcome.” Impertinent little brat.
“Now, I’m going to have breakfast, then we are going to have that conversation.”
“Yes, John.”
Something in the room snapped and suddenly everyone went back to their morning routine with only the occasional stare at the cat in his arms.
“Would you like some cereal, John?” Virgil was heading towards the fridge.
“You don’t have to get me breakfast, Virgil.”
“You have your hands full and I’ve already had mine.”
“How early were you up this morning?”
“Early enough. Your cat weirded me out.”
Bagel was rubbing her cheek against his fingers again. He grabbed a chair and sat himself down, placing Bagel on the chair beside him. She started grooming herself quite content.
A bowl was placed in front of him, followed by a cereal box, milk and another glass of orange juice.
Bagel stared up at him
He shook his head slowly. “What am I going to do with you?”
The cat tilted her head and licked her whiskers.
And he knew that somewhere far above the planet his daughter was laughing.
Forever.
Hi everyone!! Here’s another fic I’ve been working on. Check it out, please like/reblog if you like it!! :) (I’m so nervous eeee!)
Random Online Prompt: "You thought he was dead, but there he is, right in front of you on the street, smiling at you."
 You and Elijah are in love for centuries, his family becoming your family over the years. Until something goes horribly wrong.
A/N: I feel like I've seen this same kind of situation/prompt but honestly I love it so here we go. Starts in S1 ep 15 flashbacks, (following the story) then moves to present day (definitely not following the story).
Elijah x reader (S1 of TO)
word count: 3.3k
warning: implied smut, sadness, death, loneliness, gore, language, season 1 spoilers?
~
1919
Immortal life was a bit drab without something to live for. For centuries, you had just that. A totally epic love. Someone to be with forever, adventuring, fighting, loving. Elijah had lit up your life like no other, he was the candle that brightened your darkness.
Until Mikael returned.
The Quarter was vibrant and full of life with news of the peace agreement between factions in the face of prohibition. Meetings held in secret at local speakeasies, jazz music, dancing, and drinking. You eyed your love from the dance floor as he talked with his younger brother and the Werewolf Queen, Lana, raising their glasses to newfound peace. Elijah turned to scan the room for you. He found you, dancing to the lively music. He smiled as you raised your hand, finger pointed in his direction, instructing him to come dance. He finished his drink and set it on the bar behind him, smirking as he glided over to you. He grabbed you by your waist, moving in sync with you and the music. Elijah Mikaelson spent his night getting lost in the movement of your hips.
~~~
The next morning, Elijah was gone, a box and note on the pillow next to you rather than his warm body.
"For tonight. xx" The note read. You picked up the box to find a diamond necklace with matching earrings. You smiled giddily as you eyed the shine of the necklace. It would go perfectly for your dress for the opera, "Les Huguenots". Rebekah would be accompanied by Marcel, Niklaus with his new plaything, the Werewolf Queen from the previous night, and you and Elijah. Call it a group date. The Abbatoir was quiet in the mid-afternoon as you spent the day agonizingly passing time until the opera, doing your hair and makeup when the time came.
A knock at your door startled you from your concentration on your hair.
"One moment," You called. You stood, adjusting your dress in the mirror. You turned to see a tall, blonde man you didn't recognize standing in the middle of your room. Surprised, you took a step back. He was holding a decorated, carved wooden stake. He gave the smallest of fake smiles that looked devilishly familiar.
"Forgive me," he said, his accent thick, "But I must use you." He came toward you at an alarming speed. You threw your arms out in an attempt to protect yourself, but blackness and pain was the only thing that came next.
~~~
Consciousness came and went as you hung from the metal fence prop to be used by the opera cast that night. The man - who you had not learned the identity of - had dropped you down on top of the prop, impaling you through the stomach. Through your haze, you saw Marcel, unconscious, his body hanging limply, his hands and feet were tied to a large wooden torture prop. Your gaze moved as your head lulled back, eyes landing on the body of the werewolf queen, Lana, impaled on a large wooden stake. You squeezed your eyes shut as tears fell, unconsciousness taking over again.
The next time you woke was to the sound of laughter and fighting. Your eyelids parted to see the audience of the opera, cackling with laughter at the gruesome sight on the stage. You squinted, confusion taking over. You tried to move as pain ripped through your body. You saw figures fighting over Marcel, Klaus trying to free him as the man - who was he, why was he doing this? - attacked Klaus from behind. Rebekah ran from the right, trying to help Klaus free Marcel.
The man threw Klaus into another prop on the far end of the stage.
"Father," you heard Rebekah gasp. Your head fell back as realization flooded over you. Mikael. He had found the Mikaelson siblings and would kill all of them, here and now. Where had Elijah been all day? Panicked, you tried to move again, desperate to help your loves' family - your family. The pain was unbearable. It was then you heard Elijah's voice.
"There's no helping Marcel," He grabbed his brother, gazing at Marcel with Mikael's hand in his chest. A bright colour caught his eye, a deep and familiar red. Y/C/H hair on the other end of the dress, in just a position that he couldn't confirm whether or not it was you, his love. The glint of diamonds caught the light as you fell limp again, the pain finally getting the better of you. A pit fell in Elijah's stomach. "We must run," were the last words you ever heard Elijah say, as he and his siblings ran from the opera house. If there was a god, you prayed that Elijah got out safely. Flames erupted from somewhere in the opera house, and you swore this was your end.
~~~
Present day
That night lingers in your dreams every so often, even now, a century later. You had come to the conclusion that Mikael had gotten to them that night. Why else wouldn't Elijah swoop in and save you?
Marcel had come to just before the flames took over, seeing you struggling to get free. He saved you that night. Not Elijah. Together, you and Marcel built an empire in New Orleans, years spent building what had burned. Allyships, enemies, pacts, and treaties. It was, in all ways, strictly platonic. You had formed a friendship with the man, some nights even spent drunkenly crying to him about what you both had lost that night. You were each other's family now.
You left New Orleans in the late 1990's, feeling as though you had accomplished everything there was to do. Marcel stayed to rule what you had built together, but he always stressed to you that you had a home there, no matter what.
Travelling wasn't what you remembered it being. When you were with Elijah, it was always filled with adventure and awe. Now, it was lonely, and you found yourself searching for something, or more specifically, someone.
Years ago in Rome, you saw a dark-haired man in a tailored suit and your heart skipped a beat. You grabbed onto his arm and spun him around. But, of course, it wasn't him. You apologized to the man, as he scoffed and turned back around. The rest of your time in Rome was wasted in back alley's, taking your anger out on unsuspecting tourists. Your humanity was killing you. Done with the hurt and the pain, you finally flipped your switch. Ripper Y/N was a force to be reckoned with.
You found yourself in New York, playfully stalking a poor soul in the dead of night when your phone rang. Growling, you took it out of your pocket, the phone lighting up your face in the darkness reading "Marcel".
"What?" You put the phone to your ear as you watched your prey run to safety.
"You need to come home," he said in a hushed tone, "there's someone important here that you need to see."
You scoffed. "No one in my life is important anymore." These comments had become more and more frequent since you flipped your switch, but it stung Marcel nonetheless.
"I'm serious, Y/N/N. Come home. You wouldn't believe who it is if I told you." You heard him move away from the phone a bit, probably watching his surroundings. You rolled your eyes but decided to humour him.
"I'll be there tomorrow. This better be good." You hung up the phone, not waiting for his response. The veins around your eyes turned ashen and your eyes black as you hunted down another meal.
~~~
Walking down the French Quarter streets almost brought back fond memories for you. Almost. You made your way toward the compound to find Marcel, giving little notice to the walking food supplies around you. Mardi Gras was around the corner, and you would stick around town to have your fun then. Nothing better than booze, parties, and blood.
"Y/N!" Marcel greeted as you rounded the corner, arms outstretched.
"Marcel," You greeted, "What brings me here?" You asked in a bored tone.
He dropped his arms in a defeated manner. "Good to see you too," You rolled your eyes and raised an eyebrow. "Fine. I'll show you. Let's go." He pulled out his phone and sent a text. You eyed him but followed as he walked out onto the street. You recognized where he was heading. The ol' reliable of bars, Rousseau's. A smile crept onto your face, glad to be getting a drink in your system soon. He turned to look at you and reciprocated the smile. "Just wait," He said, leading you into the bar.
The bar was generally full, about as busy as you remembered it being every time you were there. You breathed in the familiar scent of the bar, catching a second familiar scent. You froze before you could exhale, eyes looking wildly around the bar. They landed on the beautiful blonde woman sitting there, watching you with a small smile on her face. Rebekah. Your eyes followed to her right, another blonde with a shit-eating smirk on his face. Klaus.
Something inside you changed, and you involuntarily flipped your switch back. The wind was knocked out of your lungs as you stared at the two Original siblings who were supposed to be dead. A tear fell down your cheek. Marcel pulled you by your arm toward them, gesturing the pretty blonde behind the bar for a shot or two.
Klaus raised his eyebrow, but his eyes shined. Rebekah was emotional as well.
"I thought you were- I swore, you and him and El-" you choked on the words as Rebekah pulled you into a hug, that you weakly responded to.
"I know, love. Us too. We couldn't bring ourselves to come back because we thought we'd lost you both." Klaus said from behind Rebekah. Rebekah released you and looked into your eyes.
"It's so good to see you, Y/N." She smiled, brighter. You forgot how much your heart ached for your adopted sister over the years.
"I just, I need a second," You gave a weak smile and walked out of the bar, pressing yourself against the brick wall outside. Covering your face with your hands, you slid down the rough bricks, gasping for air. You had to know if he was here, too. If he was alive, too. You pulled your head out of your hands, looking up and around the sidewalk as people walked by.
You could feel it, that he was there, somewhere. You don't love someone for centuries and not know what their presence is like. You looked into the street and saw a figure facing you, hand in his suit pants pocket, looking at you from a distance. He hadn't changed at all, except the suit was surely more expensive than any others he had owned in the previous years. He smiled a small, sad smile. You stood on shaky legs, not daring to take a step for fear of falling. You thought he was dead, but there he is, right in front of you on the street, smiling at you.
"Elijah?" Tears spilled from your eyes as he sped to you in an instant, inches from you now. He was ready to catch you at a moment's notice. His scent filled your lungs as he looked down at you, taking you in. Your hand reached up to hover over his cheek, not daring to touch him.
"Y/N, I-" Before he could speak more, you silenced him with the flat of your hand, slapping him across the face. Surprise filled his eyes, unsure of what to do. You touched him for the first time in a century, and it felt good. You picked up a choked laugh from inside the bar, as you realized how close you were to the windows of Rousseau's. Marcel had choked on his drink, laughing as he watched.
"How dare you." You whispered. As if he knew this might happen, his eyes became more understanding, more guilty. "Years, Elijah. I thought you were dead, for years. Because you never came back for me." He looked at the ground between you, taking a step back. He opened his mouth to speak, then closed it again, debating on his words.
"I did, Y/N. I did come back for you," He ducked his head but raised his eyes to meet yours. "A few decades after what happened at the opera house. I had to know if you were alive. I didn't see Marcel, but I saw you, being a leader and thriving, and I couldn't bring myself to put you in that same danger. You had healed and you were so strong. Mikael was still out there, and I knew he would use you against me, again. I couldn't have that." He talked of Mikael in the past tense, leading you to believe that he wasn't a problem anymore. You shook your head, your eyes never leaving his.
"That doesn't make it any better," You said quietly, "I was mourning you and your family, my family. I was rebuilding what you had all worked so hard to create in the first place. Marcel and I rebuilt. This isn't something you can just come in and take from us. He helped me over these years. He's the one that saved me. I would've died if it wasn't for him. Not you." Those last words stung both of you. What little was left of your heart was cracking and breaking. A tear slid down Elijah's cheek and you reflexively moved to wipe it away. Elijah's eyes looked hopeful as your hand gently moved toward him, but you stopped yourself and hovered your hand over his cheek once again. You blinked your eyes as if shaking yourself from a trance and lowered your hand slowly.
"Y/N, please, let me spend forever showing you that I deeply regret not making myself known to you. Please." He took your hand this time and kissed it, his eyes searching yours for your response. The picture of you limply hanging from the metal fence flashed in his eyes and guilt clouded him. You let him take your hand, desperately wanting him to keep kissing you.
"I need a drink," You slouched and pulled your hand away, deciding to stand your ground in your anger. You turned and walked back into Rousseau's where Rebekah and Marcel had started a tender conversation while Klaus was flirting with the blonde bartender. You plopped down next to Klaus and he looked at you, remorseful.
"A drink here for my friend please, sweetheart." He winked at the bartender - her name tag read Camille - and she nodded, obliging his request. Elijah followed into the bar, sitting closer to Rebekah and Marcel to give you the space you needed.
"You should know, that it wasn't just his choice to stay away. We had to run, Mika-"
You cut him off with a wave of your hand, "He told me. Mikael, danger, blah blah blah," you felt anger rising again, "but you all just left us here to die. I don't even know if you saw me in the opera house, thanks to daddy dearest, I had a slight stomach problem." Klaus's eyes narrowed as you spoke, remembering that night. You saw that you had pushed some buttons. This encouraged you even more.
"I get it though, Marcel is like a son to you, so he takes precedence, but it would've been nice to know you held me in the same regard that I held you. Family. What's that phrase? Ah, 'always and forever'? You must have forgotten that you welcomed me int-" before you could finish, Klaus had his hand wrapped around your throat. You smiled a twisted smile and chuckled as his eyes darkened.
Elijah was behind him in a second, pulling him away. A few people's gazes were drawn to the scene, but there was otherwise no public response. Camille came over, alarmed. "Is everything okay?" She asked, concerned for you. You turned and smiled sweetly at her. You looked deep into her eyes, compelling her.
"Everything is fine here. I'll be taking that drink now, to go." She nodded slowly and handed you the glass of bourbon she had poured. Klaus' eyes hadn't left you, but they softened and he waved Elijah off. He returned to his seat next to Rebekah and the entire group looked toward you as you gestured your head to the exit, beckoning them to follow.
~~~
"A bit vindictive, are we?" Klaus challenged upon arriving at the compound.
You softened at his words. This isn't who you are. A century of anger and grief had built up in your chest, but this wasn't how you wanted to reunite with the people you loved most. You turned to Klaus.
"I'm sorry." You said softly, to no one in particular, but simultaneously to everyone in the group.
Rebekah shook her head and moved to stand by you. "No, Y/N, we should have returned sooner," She glanced back to look at Marcel, regret thick in her voice. "We should have come back for both of you. We shouldn't have left without you in the first place." She took her hand in yours. Her words brought tears to your eyes, again. Klaus nodded in agreement. "It took years before any of us could even speak your names aloud. We thought you both dead."
You and Marcel exchanged looks. He moved to stand with Rebekah, his arm wrapping around her waist. She smiled at him, but he hadn't moved his eyes from you. "All Y/N and I have wanted is to know what happened to you guys. Personally, I'm just glad you're all okay." He stated.
You sighed and finally met Elijah's eyes. He hadn't stopped looking at you since the bar. He would never stop looking at you, not until he erased the image in his head of you in the opera house. His eyes were dark and anxious, desperate to know what was going through your head. Another tear ran down your cheek, you just couldn't believe that he was here. That he was okay. In a flash you were to him, arms wrapping around his neck. Not missing a beat, his hands found their way to your waist, where they belonged. It felt like home. You hadn't felt this safe in a very, very long time. He breathed a sigh of relief, pulling you in and squeezing you, taking in the scent of your hair.
"You promised me forever," You whispered to him.
He nodded into your neck, "Forever I shall give you," he whispered back.
You pulled away from the hug and kissed him, aching for him in every way. He kissed you back with the same urgency, matching your hunger. Getting lost in Elijah was just what you needed.
A cough came from behind you, interrupting your reunion. You blushed and pulled away, turning away from him. Klaus had both eyebrows raised, "I know we're all happy to be reunited but please save the intercourse for somewhere more private." He chuckled and walked toward the stairs, making his exit.
"If I have to wait-" Marcel wrapped his arms around Rebekah's waist, pulling her in hungrily. "- so do you." Rebekah giggled and turned to kiss him. You smiled warmly at them, knowing Marcel felt the same relief you did.
You turned back to Elijah, surprised to see him already looking down at you. He cocked his head to the side, his mouth curling up in a smile. He tugged at your waist, pulling you into him again, kissing you with a century's worth of passion.

Moodboard #3
Tumblr media
I was not able to make another moodboard since February because there's not much difference from what I was feeling from back then to now. It was pretty much all the same. Still wanting to get away and have freedom, yk same old shit but it wouldn't be a surprise that some things did change throughout this 5 mos like :
My lovely Calico cat Jimina gave birth to 5 kittens originally. She was pregnant at the start of this year and blessed the world with 5 cute mini jiminas on March 9 (same birthdate of BTS Suga)
3 of the kittens inherited her orange and white fur while the other one inherited the dark, striped fur completely devoid of any white fur. Only one kitten out of 5 got her triple color coated fur.
Sadly only 3 survived. Jimina hid the kittens briefly first and then abruptly one day she brought them up again already grown up, able to walk and with their eyes open but she only had 3 kittens with her. I never got to find out what ever happened with the other 2 babies with one of the missing of the kittens was the one that fully inherited the Calico cat status of Jimina which devastated me the most and I'm still heartbroken to this day that some of her babies didn't get to live like their siblings. I don't want to think that they died, I want to actually believe that they somehow survived without their mother miraculously but it's only the plausible reason why they never showed up at all 😞
The 3 surviving kittens tho is a lot of fun! They were rumbustious and full of energy. They were always playing and running around in my mom's garden. Climbing up a tree or an orchid branch, playing hide and seek through the plethora of plants. It was a treat to see them just having fun and I took lots of videos. I decided to name them after the BTS maknaes nicknames which is Kookie, Mochi and TaeTae. All 3 kittens have a very distinct personality from each other like you could immediately tell that Kookie is more introverted than the other two, his more reserved and prefers to be alone most of the time, TaeTae is more adventurous and playful but he doesn't trust that easily while Mochi on the other hand is the most extroverted and trusting out of all (FYI: I named them first without knowing their personalities believe it or not). Overall they brought so much life and extra joy in me. Now that they are 4 mos old, they don't play that much anymore, I guess it's really part of growing up regardless of what species. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Now onto my summer. I was dreading it's arrival. It's not fun when you don't have an AC at your house in the hottest season. But anyways this summer I've been having this strong desire to experience Italian summers. I just wanted to be in Italy soooooo bad. I just want to ride my bicycle anywhere in rural Italy in a summer floral dress and eating a delicious gelato after while listening to Love my way by the Psychedelic furs. Yes this strong desire got even stronger after watching the movie Call me by your name. It envoked so much nostalgia within me which is weird because I've never set foot in Italy before but the feeling of longing that I experience just thinking about spending your summer in Italy is very strong.
Additionally, speaking of bicycles I successfully finished my remodeling or rather repainting of an old bicycle we have here which is perfect for summer aesthetics. I mentioned before on my previous moodboard back in February that I was in the process of painting this bike and I included a picture of a bike that I would like my own bike to look like after I'm finish with it. And I'm very happy and satisfied with the end result overall! And I would love love to ride it around Italy!...... perhaps.
These are 3 of the most impactful things that had rocked my world within the past few months and they are in a form of a documentary, an animated podcast and an anime film!
1. Grey Gardens
I first discovered Grey Gardens when I was actively looking for any good documentary to watch so I went to Reddit recommendations and one user suggested grey gardens. Its description peaked my interest enough to go check it out and luckily the full documentary is uploaded in YouTube for free. And I must say I'm glad that I took the chance to watch this wonderful hidden gem!
Little Edie quickly got my full attention on her. She's one of the most wonderful and fascinating people to exist in our world and her mother big Edie was just as interesting of a character as well. The way they live their life, spending most of their time in a rundown mansion near a beach was truly a sight to behold in a weird, peculiar manner.
What gives me the most profound impact about this documentary is the topic of wasted youth with wasted potential and the ironic part when your very own lifeline equally imprisons you as well. And we see this most evidently with little Edie. There was a part in this doc that stuck with me the most and it's when the mother-daugther duo was sunbathing in the balcony and little Edie mentioned about wanting freedom from her mother and the grey gardens then big Edie answered:
"you can't have freedom when you're being supported"
And this has struck a chord on me so strong because I relate to it so much especially with my current situation. I also crave freedom from where I am right now but I couldn't because I'm not capable of freeing myself.
What's more tragic was little Edies rebuttal to her mother's hotknife realistic take which was you can't have freedom both ways. That you couldn't have freedom when you're not being supported as well. And it's very true. If you decide to go out in the world by yourself you will definitely be freed from the shackles of your former home & life but you will subject yourself to another imprisonment.
Basically We're never truly free in this life.
2. The Midnight Gospel
I think I've heard of TMG when it was about to launch on its release year and I remember i was anticipating for it to come out because i just took one look at the official poster & I knew I would like the animation then I learned Pendleton ward is a part of it & I'm a huge fan of his creations so it's a double treat but I didn't had the opportunity to watch it back then bcoz of my busy shitty life & I actually don't have Netflix. But I remember i downloaded one of its ost first things first.
Now fast forward to this year. I now have the time to watch every content out there that I missed from all the years of slaving my life away for absolutely nothing. one of those is TMG & it was a perfect timing. Ever since i took an hiatus from the rat race I decided to strengthen my spirituality & this time I want to try delving deep to Buddhism and certain philosophies which I don't have the time and energy to learn before and TMG was a great and perfect medium for me to learn further about this subjects as they tackle topics like mindfulness and meditation and much more other significant things, not to mention the superb,epic, psychedelical, full of awesomeness animation on top of equally superb awesome soundtracks is*chefs kiss ( I still have an LSS to the prisoner's song.. 🎵drinking blood from a stump of a prison guard that I just chopped up....🎶)
I felt like the universe intended for me to watch this later than sooner because if I had the opportunity to watch it back then, I think I wouldn't/couldn't appreciate this show as much as I do now. So thanks universe!
TMG is honestly one of the best show to ever grace the planet imho. An easily perfect 10/10 for me.
3. To the Forest of Firefly Lights
Now I've watched a lot of animes last and this year and I can tell in full confidence that this is the best of them all. I'm sure it's subjective but this one checked all the box for the most compelling story & amazing artwork for me.
Maybe I long for something similar with the characters, It was just so fascinating and huntingly beautiful to have someone or something (whatever your preference is) from a different realm to be by your side. Maybe I would also like to look forward for summer season to come for once, to get excited and get rejuvenated on a hot summer that otherwise would make my life hell. Or maybe and most definitely I just needed someone like Gin as a source of my utmost happiness and comfort.
Overall this anime had made me feel so much warmth in my heart with its unadulterated poignancy and I just couldn't get enough of it. What a masterpiece ✨
Ps: I recommend listening to Warning Sign by Coldplay after watching to the Forest of Firefly Lights 🌹Check it out ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
