TEDx Milehigh Adventure. With speaker Paula Williams, and her son Joshua. A presentation and discussion on gender equity. -Women are inturrupted twice as much as men in conversation. Is that true? When I look back on my own life, I found many examples of myself doing this. And there is no logical reason for why. -When women give their opinion, knowledge, or expertise, people will verify their information from a second source more often than when men give their expertise, knowledge and opinion. Is that true? Again, looking back on my own experiences I feel that I've seen this countless times. (not 100% of the time, and not to say it doesn't happen to us men too) but it does happen to women on a more common basis. Why does this matter? Roughly 50% of all humans are women... That's a lot of people. Intelligent, hardworking, experienced, successful, ambitious people. We know their contributions aren't worth any less than men's... But they often get treated as if they are less credible. That doesn't make sense to me. What can we do about this? Women already know that part of the battle is that they need to step up more. But the other part is up to us guys. We need to give women the credibility they deserve and stop treating them like they don't know what they are talking about. Not all of us men are guilty of these things 100% of the time, or to the same degree... But it's happening. If you feel like you're "not that guy" good! I've been a fan and follower of the TED events for many years. Finally attending one was an incredible experience. There was a multitude of displays and activities, and I tried almost every single one. There were areas to just sit down and strike up thought provoking conversations. (I took full advantage of that). All of the speakers were phenomenal, and during the Q&A at the after party I got to meet and have 1 on 1 contains with three of them, Ruth Soukup, Marcus Doe, and Jennifer Reich. This is definitely one of the greatest events I've attended and I intend to go to more. Over the past two weeks I have been immersed in the Wim Hof Method. It has been allowing me to learn better control over my body's natural stress response and anxiety, as well as my resilience to the cold. (Which is perfect because this California body, is about to experience a Colorado winter.) It is likely that some troubles will happen to us, but it is not a present fact. How often has the unexpected happened? How often has the expected never come to pass?
