I miss Jonsa so much but I miss the fandom so much more. I missed the emotion of coming to tumblr and always finding theories of what would happen next, great authors writing brilliant fics, just people enjoying art and talking about it for so many years. There were chat groups and so many ways to share your theories and analysis time and time again. Even when season 7-8 aired and we suffered and got frustrated and sad together.... it was wonderful it was a shared experience but now there are really few people still in the fandom and it's just sad that now feels so lonely when it used to be my comfort place.

I’m so sorry you feel that way, anon! I chose to leave the one jonsa discord I was part of not long after joining it, so I don’t feel quite the same sense of loss, although I sympathize with your feelings of bereavement. The tags aren’t as active as they once were, but considering how much we hated how they wrote Jon and how long ago GoT ended, I think our fandom does a remarkable job in still finding things to talk about. We still occasionally get new art (lovely, gorgeous, pls we are not worthy more here), we still have active fic writers (a writer of all AUs, modern AUs, on a crime and horror kick, historical and canon-verse AUs, so many more authors -fic tag!), and we even still get new gifsets and so many parallels!

I understand it isn’t the same, your favorite writer may have left the fandom, there isn’t a constant flow of new content, but it makes me even more grateful for those who still do attempt to contribute to the fandom, by creating or by encouraging those who do, by simply reblogging or leaving a comment or sending an ask. It will never be the same, but still find so much joy in our little corner of the fandom.

Also, the announcement of the Jonsquel has some show fans occasionally poking their heads in, so when we get a release date for that, I think there are a lot of people ready to get the buzz again! If you want to dm, I’ll happily chat about GoT with you, or feel free to send asks with headcanons etc. Many of us still enjoy talking about jonsa even if we aren't spontaneously overflowing with ideas!

im not particularly religious but i think it’s very cute that Trans Day of Visibility and Easter are on the same day this year :)

its no question that something like this could be triggering or upsetting to a number of queer ppl given the current sociopolitical climate, so i want everyone to remember that u are loved! What is your opinion on why fAegon was left out of Game of Thrones? I've always thought it's because the true endgame will be between Jon and Dany, so the showrunners were fine with leaving him out.

I agree with you. It's very odd to me how many book fans insisted D&D took the story in a totally different direction overall, when I thought the streamlining of the series (cutting cast, settings) is a natural part of adapting a work. I've seen very simple stories (in comparison to ASOIAF) get paired down to nothing, but the nothing that is left, the endpoints are generally the same. Just think of any classic literature that's been adapted. Sometimes, even with the endpoints, the movie tries to make a point that's in defiance of the author's sentiments, but even so, usually, the characters still arrive at the same spot.

Obviously, how far off D&D were with interpreting characters, how often they simply reassigned storylines, how badly written the later seasons were gave a lot of support to people who believed this, but I've often thought there was a lot of wishful thinking behind it when it came to people saying actually, Stannis isn't gonna burn his daughter, Cersei is the mad queen, Jon Con will burn KL, it's Arya who will reunite with Jon and become QitN, etc etc.

To me, D&D didn't understand the core ideas or just valued hype more, and therefore, doing justice to Dorne and Arianne and Aegon seemed unnecessary. It probably just seemed to add confusion where they desperately needed to start coalescing the story in order to bring it to an end.

Also, having Aegon is a big indicator that Dany is not the hero everyone makes her out to be because whether he is or isn't who he believes he is, Dany is going to decide that she must rule, and she will go to war with another Targ (or someone people accept as one), to do so which makes her actions not about benefiting anyone but herself. So, perhaps the major reason they needed to not do Aegon was to preserve the surprise? The Lannisters were very popular too, so if he is the one that ends them (and I think that is more satisfying than Dany doing it), including him would have meant a loss they weren't sure his presence would compensate for. I've suggested that if they ever do another remake, they need to include Dorne/Aegon from very early on and that the tension needs to be about the inevitability of our three Targs (Jon, Dany, Aegon) coming into conflict, not an attempt to pretend like that wont happen. Maybe someday!

In case it seems like every third comic has Batman in it... you're not wrong. He's been in 38.6% of DC issues since 2020, with a stark increase of 8% each decade since the 90s and surpassing Superman in popularity. Despite this, there's been a massive drop off of comics where he is teamed up with Superman or a Robin (although the amount of group team ups between Batman Family members has increased, as well as Nightwing solos).

listen like. people are totally entitled to their opinions and criticisms of the pjo show but. sometimes it’s just hard to hear/read. I know the show isn’t perfect but seeing the cast & producers talk about it and seeing the level of love and excitement theyve put into the work, idk, I feel for them having people tear it to shreds. criticising the author himself for not adapting it well when he’s doing something different with a new medium, saying they’re sorry for the kids who love the books but have to act in this “terrible” show as if these kids aren’t THRILLED by the opportunity and just so committed to giving the show their best.

(watch the behind the scenes documentary. seriously.)

again totally valid criticisms & opinions!! but you win some and lose some in an adaptation. eg. trying to expand on themes, keep a consistent tone, appeal to a broader audience (including those of us who loved the books as kids but are now!!! adults!!!), keep within budget, etc etc all these things involve some trade offs. sure some of the humour and goofiness has been lost but we also get amazing beautifully acted scenes that really expand on core themes of family or who is a monster etc etc.

speaking on a personal level I have had a hard time these past few months and this show became a genuine escape, a way for me to connect with my sister watching the episodes together, a rediscovery of my inner 12 year old who waited so long for this. and I know there are people who are like me and they had certain expectations and that’s why they’re disappointed and that’s so valid, but it’s a lot of negativity sometimes, & I just wish we could give a little grace bc making a creative thing is hard, and pleasing everyone with that creative thing is impossible, and most of all, maybe we could revel a little bit more in this unique complex piece of work that lots of people poured their hearts into with nothing but the best of intentions.
