I want to go to Ferelden.
I will spell couleur as colour and work on a farm. I would spend all night in The Pearl while drinking ale with my mates. I'll have cheese every day that's worth 1 silver. I would go to war and die. I am also more likely to meet bandits, The Hero of Ferelden and The Queen.
I wish I was Fereldan. :(

Coming Back Home To You
Tumblr media
pairing : steve rogers x reader
fandom : marvel/avengers
synopsis : after a new threat wreak havoc on the team, steve suggests a safehouse with a surprise awaiting them inside.
a/n : inspired majorly by clints house!!
warnings : mentions of mind control and injuries etc. typical marvel stuff
the quinjet is completely silent, apart from the quiet hum of the engine. the entire team is still, dark shapes in the dimly lit cabin, everyone in varying levels of disarray.
natasha sits completely still, eyes staring unseeingly at the large console while a worried bruce sits beside her, combing her short red locks behind her ears. thor sits across from them, hand trembling slightly as it gripped mjolnir, mouth pressed in a thin line.
clint sits on the other end of the space, eyes squeezed shut as his wife spoke softly from the phone, reassuring him the 4 of them were all okay. tony sits a little away from him, his hands gripping his phone, staring at the picture of pepper and him peeking out at him.
wanda sits next to steve, her eyes wet with unshed tears, glimmering in the fading sunshine. steve casts worried glances in her direction from time to time, as he commanders the jet, the coordinates set in as he informs maria about where they're going. bucky sits on the other side, quiet, but not as badly affected as the rest. he had stayed on the jet for the majority of the time.
"i think we need a small break. some time to reset. whatever these things are, we need a break okay?" he says, voice firm. his team is down and he needs to look after them.
"where are you going to take them?" maria hill's voice fills the empty space. "a safehouse. fury knows where" is his cryptic response and she furrows a brow, but decides if fury knows, it's safe enough.
"okay. keep me posted" she replies, and logs off. steve takes a deep breath and wonders how it all went so wrong. one minute they were taking down the hydra base, and the second, they had all been blasted black, minds trapped in a simulation of them carrying out their deepest fears.
even wanda had been caught off guard, and before they knew it, bucky had brought the jet closer and steve was struggling off the ground to get the others back into the jet, back to safety.
they had all remained entrapped, until one by one it broke and they all snapped out gasping and shaking.
the sky is fading, a soft orange shade similar to ripe peaches, streaks of golden sunshine peeking out occasionally, as they sped away from the city, white clouds becoming more and more prominent as they reached the countryside.
after what felt like hours, steve landed the jet in what seemed like an isolated farmland, acres of green land and small dairy farms in smatterings across the area.
"where are we?" thor asked, helping wanda get to her feet. "yeah cap, are you sure this place is safe? it seems deserted" tony said, hiding the slight quiver in his knees.
"it's safe" he confirmed, helping bruce get natasha to her feet. "just have to walk for 5 minutes to the left" he continued, leading the way.
the team followed silently behind, trudging like a pack of kicked puppies, exhaustion laced on every line on all their faces.
"how do you know this place is safe?" clint asked, striding up to catch up with steve. "you'll see" he responded, smiling softly when a large house came into view.
"oh.." clint said, eyes brightening as he looked to steve for confirmation. he gave him a small smile in response.
a beautiful rustic, wooden house stood surrounded by what seemed like never ending green farmland. a beautiful wooden shed stood beside the house, and pretty flower pots and trees trailed around the house.
a beautiful patio was at the back of the house, with a small outdoor fire place and covered in fairy lights and small light bulbs, with a small table and couches.
it seemed to scream homely and comforting, and seemed to exude an aura of warmth. clint took in the place with a smile, noting the swing set and slide in the yard, and assorted collection of children's toys in the backyard.
"what is this place?" wanda muttered groggily, holding onto thor for support. "you'll see, but please wipe your feet on the mat" he said, gently pushing the front door of the house open.
what greeted them was the scent of vanilla and musk, oakwood and patchouli, and the subtle whiff of pinecones. the hallway was bright and sunny, pretty paintings and photos decorating the walls. there were small figurines made of ceramic, that looked hand painted.
as steve turned the corner, natasha noted the way he kept glancing up the long staircase, eyes glimmering with what looked like endless adoration.
"sweetheart?" he called softly, taking off his shield and setting it down on a shoe rack, that looked like it was made for his shield.
he neared the kitchen, the scent of cinnamon filled the air, and thors tummy rumbled loudly.
"steve?" came a honeyed voice, and the team was able to put a face to the voice when a gorgeous woman made her way out from behind the stove. she had eyes that sparkled softly, crinkled in a bright smile as she looked at their captain. she had an elegance to her, an aura of gentility and kindness that seemed to radiata in the brightness of her smile.
she was clad in a soft summer sundress dress, a pretty white dress that was covered in blue flowers, flowing just below her knees. they watched her eyes widen in joy, and rush towards steve, who pulled her into his arms, head burying into her neck, wrapping his arms tightly around her plush waist, pressing soft kisses to her shoulders, before pulling away and pressing his lips to her own, a deep, passionate kiss that took his breath away.
"hi sweetheart" he murmured against her lips before drawing back, suddenly hyper-aware of his team. "you're home!" the woman exclaimed again a soft laugh leaving her lips. "yes I am, and i have a few guests darling, i hope that's alright?" he asked, gently cradling her head in his palm
"uh sure! hi!" you said, waving kindly to the disheveled team. bruce smiled at you, confusion still present in his eyes, while thor and wanda gave you warm smiles. natasha looked at you giving you a once over, before flashing you a weak smile. she decided she liked your kind eyes.
"y/n!" bucky exclaimed, rushing forward to pull you into a tight hug. you laughed, squeezing him, before pulling back to assess him. "hi buck! how are you?"
the super soldier grinned at you, eyes flashing with an odd expression as he shook his head sadly. "I'm okay"
"care to introduce the rest of us?" tony chimed in awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck.
"guys, meet my wife, y/n l/n rogers." steve said, wrapping an arm around your waist and pulling you in close to him.
"i know all your names" you confessed, playing with the string of your dress nervously as they all said hello softly.
"how long have you been married?" bruce asked, slowly warming up to his captains wife.
"about five years. fury helped me set this up like he helped clint. didn't want her getting involved in the dangers of being married to an avenger. thats why I don't wear my ring around everyone" he said, answering the questions on everyones lips.
"it's nice to meet you" wanda said shyly, and you gave her an encouraging smile.
"why don't you guys go and get changed and bathed? there's three bathrooms in here and a wash room in the shed in case you don't want to wait" you said , going towards the oven to turn it off. "I have some fresh cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies in the oven, and i can have a cold jug of lemonade ready for you by the time you're done getting changed" you said, leaning down to make sure everything was done baking.
"where are my two troublemakers?" steve asked quietly, not wanting to spoil the biggest surprise of all. you smiled, pointing towards the staircase. "let me call them for you-" before you could finish, the thundering of footsteps became audible and you shared an amused glance with bucky.
"daddy!" two gleeful voices filled the air and two blue eyed, pigtailed figures came running into the kitchen, clad in denim dungarees and white shirts.
"hi my loves!" steve said, scooping both his daughters into his arms, laughing when they squealed and kissed his cheeks.
"we missed you!" the girl on the left said, burrowing into her dad. "so much!" the girl on the right completed, squishing his cheeks.
"guys, meet sarah marie rogers and stella jamie rogers" steve smiled proudly, to an awe struck group of avengers who had their jaws on the floor.
"you have children?!?!" natasha said, mouth agape as she stared at the twins in steve's arms. "actual puny little humans?" thor said, eyes as wide as saucers.
clint just laughed, waving to the little girls. stella buried her face in her dad's neck, clearly the more reserved of the two, while sarah waved brightly back at him.
"uncle bucky!" sarah exclaimed, reaching for the man who took her with a laugh, spinning her around. "hello little angel! I've missed you!" he laughed, ruffling her hair softly.
you watched your daughter's reuniting with their father, a soft smile on your face. how you had missed him!
"well, I guess captain america's got more than just his shield to protect now! who knew old cap could multitask? i wonder if he still gives the 'I can do this all day' speech during diaper changes." tony chimed in, smirking at steve.
you laughed at the comment, shaking his hand warmly. "yeah he does sometimes" you smirked, earning a look of betrayal from your husband while wanda and clint laughed.
"woah you're black widow!" sarah said, looking wide eyed at natasha. "you're my favourite avenger!" she exclaimed, earning a chuckle from the assassin, who raised her hand up for a high five.
"whose your favourite?" clint asked stella, his fatherly instincts kicking in.
stella mumbled something softly, still holding on to her daddy. "tell him sweetie, thats hawkeye, remember i told you about him?" steve urged gently, softly pushing his daughter's long locks away from her eyes.
"my favourite is thor" she mumbled, eyes widening as she took in the asgardian. steve watched as the god visibly melted, a bright smile on his face as he strode over to the little girl.
"it appears that i am the mightiest avenger in the eyes of the smallest mortal! dear child k if you require any tips on wielding a tiny hammer or battling bedtime monsters, you know who to call. i humbly acclaim myself your immortal servant" he said seriously, holding out his large hand for a handshake.
stella just turned away, shy and flustered at the hulking avenger before saying a soft "okay" earning a laugh from bucky.
"she's just a kid thor" bruce said, looking up from the paintings around the room. "did you guys paint these?" he asked, looking in awe of the paintings. "daddy did some and we did some" sarah responded, still happily snuggled in her uncle's arms.
"wow" wanda said, examining one of a field of tulips. "which one of you painted this?" she asked, looking over at you. "me" a shy voice responded as stella spoke up. "oh you're so talented!" wanda said, voice still soft. she related to this quiet child, and felt an immediate connect with her.
"t-thank you" she said, offering her a sugar sweet smile. "do you want to see my other paintings and crafts?" she asked, slowly clambering off her dad's lap, and walking carefully over to the sokovian.
"I'd love that!" she said, leaning her hands towards the little girl, who took her hand in her own.
"uncle bucky, do you want to help me build my trampoline?" sarah asked, arms looped around his neck. "sure sweetheart, we can do that".
"darling, let's let them all get comfortable first okay?" you interrupted, smiling when your younger twin (sarah) came bounding over to you for a hug.
"okay mama, I'm gonna go and show stella and auntie wanda some of my drawings too!" she said and she was shooting off like lightning again, but not before hugging her dad's knees and saying "i love you daddy!" again to steve.
as the team dispersed to the various bathrooms, steve led you up to your bedroom, closing the door behind you two.
"my sweet baby, I've missed you so much" he said, advancing towards you, cupping your cheeks in his hands, tugging you close, forehead resting gently against yours.
"I've missed you more. are you okay? how come you're here?" you asked, brushing his sandy blonde locks away from his forehead.
his blue eyes clouded over and his grip on you tightened. "i thought i-" his voice broke and you immediately wrapped your arms around him, hearing him take a deep stuttering breath.
"there was this new hydra variant. some element of mind control. I saw you and the girls...lying here... cold and..." his voice broke and he pulled back, thumb grabbing your chin to yank you into a kiss.
he needed to feel you. to physically feel and make sure you were alive and right there with him.
"I'm right here steve, right here my darling. I'm okay, the girls are okay. and were all right here." you chanted like a mantra, stroking his hair.
he pulled you into a kiss again, messy, teeth and tongue clashing, hands roaming your waist, hips and finally resting in your hair and one hand on your waist.
"i love you" he murmured, eyes never leaving yours as he leaned back. "i love you more" you whispered back, slowly pushing him to sit down. "let's get you changed honey" you said, drawing a warm bath as you slipped into the bathroom.
steve took a deep breath.
it was all going to be okay.
he was finally home.

can you tell us more about dronestrike & the campaign theyre from?
just read thhe post about it & immediately became obsessed
(context: Dronestrike is my warrior cats OC, an american imperialist robot cat the size of a horse and equipped with enough firepower to wipe out the clans if it seems like they're at risk of falling to communism. in the oneshot he accidentally fired a nuke at the city of LA and blamed "every other country" in a phone call with Bidenstar to avoid getting in trouble)
it wasn't a campaign, just an 11-person oneshot in the single most chaotic discord voice call I have ever been in. so i haven't played him since then, nor will i ever play him again
i can provide you a variety of facts about him i came up with after the fact though because he's a funny enough character that i can't stop thinking about him:
his brain is composed of three parts with an equal amount of control over his actions: the soul of a vietnam veteran, an AI replica of a cat, and every single super bowl halftime commercial
he comes armed with combat knives for claws, a machine gun in his mouth, a high caliber sniper rifle built into his spine, a pistol that he somehow uses with cat paws, and a douglas air-2 genie air-to-air unguided nuclear missile
transition could not save him because all trans people are godless communists who bully him on twitter
Dronestrike acknowledges every independence movement if only so that America has more countries to eventually colonize
he has read Marx so he can misuse quotes and flex on any marxists who haven't read theory
his greatest wish is for america to have won 'nam
doesn’t really have any physical possessions because he’s a cat who doesn’t have pockets or a permanent residence. he does however have $8.6 million in Shell oil stock
Dronestrike if he played League of Legends: only plays champs who have america-themed skins, but doesn’t actually own the skins because that would be giving money to a chinese company. plays all of them jungle to poor results. iron 4 two thousand games this season
has no mouth but wishes he did so he could taste the burgers that honest Americans have died to defend
Dronestrike's dream world is world war 3, with the stipulation that there is an american flag superimposed over EVERYONE'S vision instead of just his
if he had 24 hours to live he would start a “second american revolution” by attacking England
he isn't a good kisser: no lips, he's a cat, and also george washington famously said that romantic connections weaken your spiritual link with The State
response to being trapped in a maze of mirrors: breaks through the mirrors without noticing, but also can’t recognize his reflection. Thinks he has to fight these teleporting commie clones of himself to save the United States of America
he's on Santa's naughty list
on Halloween he dresses up as George Washington and “trick or disappears” journalists
Dronestrike hates the reds, the brits, women, and most importantly, himself
prefers fundamentals over schmovement
favorite board game is Monopoly because watching people go bankrupt or be imprisoned is one of his hobbies
his happiest memory is his first glimpse of an amazon packaging facility and the horrible conditions of the workers
favorite season is summer: 4th of July babey!!! the holiday where you're allowed to blow shit upppp!!! he also frequently sets off fireworks in the off season to scare dogs and people with anxiety
doesn’t date but he sends tech billionaires unethically farmed flowers sometimes
doesn’t play video games but he has a simulated CoD lobby’s chat going at all times in his head. they call him slurs whenever he misses a shot
relates strongly to Patrick Bateman
he was in ShadowClan. they picked which clan he would be deployed into by having him take the official "which clan are you" quiz
sometimes he doubts that he has the heart of a true warrior

A Step by Step tutorial on how to not die
(In SAGAU) By yours truly, your ol' pal, Narrator~
Let's see how you fare, can you, whoever "you" are... complete this most wondrous tutorial!?
--
Step One: BELIEVE
oH, you're in a game? Don't just stand idly, you're in an open world game, silly! And fantasy at that, laws in your world do not apply in this world most of the time.
So you best believe (I'm still bejeweled) that you are in a game.
--
Where the hell am I? How did I wake up in a patch of grass...?
...Wait, is that... Violetgrass? No, no, I'm just delusional, I think I pulled an all-nighter on Genshin again.
I'm probably just in a hyper-realistic dream or something. This isn't some isekai fanfiction.
--
Step Two: Assess!
LEt one be different from the rest, as a certain someone had said. Every AU is different from the rest, so you must assess and collect knowledge of your situation!
Are you a revered God, or a hunted Impostor? Or are you just some ordinary guy living in a simulation?
--
If this a dream, I can just wander off and do stuff right? Whatever, I'll wake up anyways.
The first thing I need to do is figure out my current situation.
--
Step Three: Avoid & Approach
Don't staLl. Once you've assessed your situation, you must certain situations that would cause conflict, and approach situations that would be in your favor.
...that's it.
--
"Have you heard? The Creator has announced an Impostor wandering around..."
"Oh my! I hope they catch them soon..."
Don't tell me I'm in a SAGAU fic...
FUCK.
So, I need to lie low and not enter any if the nations. The Rainforest in Sumeru won't be favorable because if the Forest Rangers.
Venti is the Wind God and Wind is well, everywhere so Mondstadt's wilderness is out of the question.
If I traverse somewhere far from Liyue's Harbor and the Adepti Mountain, or whatever it's called... I can hide within the terraformation, right....????
--
Step Four: Survive.
Congratulations! You've done the three Previous steps! Now you just need to survive, right? Can't be that hard.
Just collect resources, seek shelter and maybe grow crop farm! Just avoid anyone and everyone, become a misanthrope or something.

Screenshotting and posting myself to avoid having to subject miss punkitt to any potential resulting discourse
I think the “blame” has come down to Mojang, being a Microsoft property, and always needing to make money, must always be updating the game. And it creates a weird scenario where they must continue to add content, but have not really decided on an actual direction; the updates have become vapid and fluffy.
Vapid and fluffy would NOT usually be an issue, Minecraft has ultimately become a “pointless” game, in the same way that Animal Crossing is a “pointless" game. So content gets added with no real gameplay value, but since Minecraft has become a "pointless game", the valueless content must be defended as "Not everything needs to have a use!", which is true! But...
Minecraft's original gameplay is to exploit all of the resources around you and to use them to do Minecraft colonizing. Minecraft has contradicted its core gameplay by adding things that are not able to be exploited (no use value), or only have a promise of becoming exploitable, but ultimately get dropped when the next major update starts being worked on. No one is logging on to play Minecraft to see a sniffer, people want to do the Minecraft colonization. So the question then becomes "Why does Mojang bother with these updates that aren't with any clear intention to add onto the gameplay? Players clearly don't want this, so why continue?"
I think ultimately, the banal, directionless nature of the recent Minecraft updates is less indicative of a desire to add interesting spectacle and more of a loss of drive. I think Minecraft needs to be put to rest. Mojang needs to put a pin in it and say "We're done, this isn't what we're interested in working on any longer (ostensibly), and we feel stifled by how limiting the framework of Minecraft has become and desire to move on to different projects".
So, when you consider that survival games (or at least variations in the genre are, simulation, colony builders, farming sims, etc.) are still one of the most popular genres on Steam, I think saying "Minecraft is itself, conceptually, to blame for getting stale" is a much smaller portion of the picture; Mojang has the opportunity to keep the game interesting, they simply have not, be it poor priorities, low resources, lack of desire, lack of confidence, a limiting engine.
All that said, I know the recent snapshots have been working on reworking the NBT data system for all items in the game into something more accessible, allowing for ease of use in data packs and probably mods too. And maybe this is a hot take, but I think that this is all they should be focusing on at this point. I think if Mojang is interested at all in maintaining their (dwindling) playerbase, they should be going all in on optimizing for external player creation and allow for players to revitalize the game themselves, instead of wasting resources on trying to come up with a new flower to put in, or something.

Phantom Thieves play a farming/life simulator game with S/O
Tumblr media
Note: purely self-indulgent... my friends and i booted up stardew valley again so have this . .. i mainly have stardew in mind while writing, so the mechanics will be reflecting that ehe no sumi yet! i have no idea how to write her yet </3 but i am currently playing through p5r so i might add her later!
Tumblr media
Akiren
Ahh... he enjoys this game very much. Being somewhere peaceful and quiet AND alone with you? Perhaps a dream come true! As soon as the game is loaded, he starts planting the first few seeds he receives, and then proceeds to forage for things he could sell. When he finds a few flowers, he will give them to you and will pout if you don't accept them.
"You need to meet the people in town!" you tell him as he tries to give you the flower again.
"Why? I already have you. I do not need anyone else."
Definitely the type to do most things with you. You are planting crops? He will water them. You are petting the chickens? He will feed them. You are fishing on the beach? He is right beside you, doing the same. You are going to the mines? He defends you from the mobs while you mine away. He genuinely enjoys being with you all the time (even if in this case, its in a video game).
Enjoys playing househusband as well, should you advance that far in the game, and will be the type to seriously think about the names of your children (in the game). Once the house is upgraded, and there is a kitchen, he now has another purpose. The type to collect recipes and cook, going around town giving dishes to the townspeople. The type to send you off with your 'lunch' and a "Take care! The kids and I will be waiting for you."
Tumblr media
Ryuji
Probably giddy the first time you suggest playing the game. He will gladly agree, of course! The only thing though, he does not find the farm work to be entertaining, so you will have to do that. He does not mind taking care of the livestock though! As soon as the game starts, he'd probably hand you the seeds and go foraging instead. Probably the kind to always make sure to have something to sell at the end of the day.
He enjoys going to the mines, and so he is mainly in-charge of the upgrades. Will tend to give you a few pretty stones and/or artifacts he finds. Also the kind to 'unlock' things, such as new areas or new mechanics. He would probably go for achievements, but he's not really a completionist. More so does certain things for its benefits.
"Ryuji, I need a few earth crystals for the mayonnaise makers," you tell him as you were rearranging a few things in your farm.
"Alright babe! I also got you a diamond, by the way!"
He also tries to make your life easier while playing the game, such as letting you upgrade your backpack first, exchanges tools with you when he upgrades so that you have the better quality, and puts torches every where so you do not get lost. Will probably be blushing the whole time while you guys get married, and when you decide to have kids (in-game).
Tumblr media
Ann
The game is so cute! Yes, she will gladly play with you! When you first boot up the game, she is a little bit overwhelmed because there are so many things to do, but she will most likely look at the journal/tasks as a guide for things to do. She does not mind doing a little bit of everything, but she mainly enjoys taking care of the livestock. She also likes designing the layout for both the farmland and the inside of the house.
"Oh my gosh! Can I buy the chickens for our coop? Our first children!" Ann gushes, having just finished up the fencing for the said coop.
"Sure, just do not forget to buy food for them as well!"
Once you guys have reached the stage where you are living comfortably, she will try to befriend everyone! Extra resources she have will be given to the townspeople, curious for the lore and a few character backstories. As for the romanceables, she asks for your permission to befriend them beforehand. It's honestly adorable.
When you guys get married, she will dress up accordingly. She is giggling the whole time, and will whisper an 'I love you' to you at the end. When you decide to have kids, she's a bit disappointed that they do not grow up. She finds it fun to put different hats on them, though!
Tumblr media
Yusuke
He is a bit clueless at first, and will need you to guide him through most of the things. Once he gets the hang of it though, he will enjoy it. He really likes the background music and the art of the game so those are plus points for him. He tends to forget the farm chores though, as he will usually go to town to interact with different characters and see their stories.
If you let him be in-charge of the farm layout, it will be a beautiful farm guaranteed; even with just the use of flowers, crops, and some tall grasses. He asks that you do not touch it though, so you have two farms. One for profit, and one for whatever Yusuke decides it to be. He rarely goes to the mine, and almost never goes unless you invite him so you are in-charge of upgrading your tools. You, however, task him with buying things needed for the farm such as hay, seeds, etc. He accidentally bought 99 pieces of the wrong thing once though, and he apologized profusely afterwards.
"You bought 99 heaters?!"
"It was beside the hay, my love, I realized too late." Yusuke genuinely sounded apologetic, and you assured him that it was fine.
When you get married, he will give you a bunch of flowers he grew on the farm. He also tends to have a surprise for you every once in a while, like maybe an item he got while exploring, or rearranging your furniture. If you decide to have children, he diligently checks on them and does not want to leave them alone on the farm. You try to tell him it does not make a difference, but he refuses to leave them all by themselves.
Tumblr media
Makoto
Another one who is a bit clueless. After watching a bit from you, she starts to learn though. You divide up the chores between yourselves, so that you get equal experiences. Also the one to fulfill all the side quests, even in-game she likes helping people. She finds the game as a good stress relief, given as it has a calming background music and cute art. Also enjoys exploring every new thing together.
"Makoto, will you be my partner for the festival?"
"Y-you don't need to ask. My answer is always yes."
She also likes the combat system, and will visit the mines sometimes. A casual player, she allows you to play even without her. Given that she is a very busy person, she's fine even with just updates on what is going on in the farm currently. Despite this, she somehow remembers which crops/products are the most profitable and encourages you to sell those instead.
If you decide to get married in-game, she is red in the face while the sequence is happening. She might also come back more frequently now, can't let her spouse do all the work on the farm by themselves now, eh?
Tumblr media
Futaba
She is probably the one to initiate asking. She has played the game before, and wants to try playing with you as well. Will also probably play the game with a few mods, just to spice it up a little bit. As soon as the game loads, she plants the given seeds and goes to town to greet the people. An absolute completionist for achievements. Might play the game even if you are not online. The kind of player to advance ahead, just so she can help you later on. Despite this, she asks for your input in most things as she really likes including you in the decision-making.
"Should I put the coop near our crops so it's easier for you to navigate?" Futaba asks while she layouts the farm.
"Yes please!"
She keeps a mental list of the things she needs to do, and knows exactly what exact conditions are needed to unlock a certain thing, or the requirements to a certain event. So if you ever find yourself stuck, feel free to ask her! She also does a little bit of everything, therefore her stats are really balanced.
Married or not, she gives you an item every day. She says its a 'power-up', so you will have an easier time doing your tasks. Also, your cat's name is Morgana. She says you guys are one big family over here.
Tumblr media
Haru
Yes! It did not take much convincing, honestly. She does not mind being completely in-charge of the crops. She tends to do a few tasks from-time-to-time, though. Especially tasks related to crops, such as bringing a cabbage to a certain person in town. She very much likes the combat system, sure it's a little simple, but she loves it. Sometimes goes to the mines just for it. Not to get an ore, but just to battle.
She gives you flowers, sometimes from foraging, and some she grew on the farm. She studies which crops are the best to grow to ensure profit and also which ones you can eat for HP and fatigue, both for when you or she goes to the mines. She might drop a few fun facts about some of the plants, too.
She is a very casual player, playing for the vibes and also as a bonding quality time with you. Thus, she likes when you ask her to do stuff with you, such as visiting another island together, or going to the mines together. When you get married, she finds it cute that the whole town attended. And to be honest... this game is giving her ideas.
"What if we start a farm that could supply our café?" Haru asks you one night.
"H-Haru! Let us focus on graduating first... "
Tumblr media
Goro
A little hesitant to play, but he ends up playing nonetheless. He is a little bit unsure on what to do, so he ends up mimicking whatever it is you do. While he ends up enjoying the game, he will only play when you are online. If he has prior commitments, he lets you play but does not want you to play special events without him.
"Goro~ the festival tomorrow requires me having a partner. Can I ask one of the townspeople instead?"
"No. Do not even think about it. Wait for me," he leaves no room for discussion.
He also likes dividing the chores between you two, so you both get equal benefits. He likes exploring with you, but when he is not with you he is mining purely for the combat. If you ever need monster drops, he probably has a lot in his inventory. Will also redecorate your house a bit, and admittedly he likes the idea of living with you a little too much. Even if it is in-game. He is most definitely not remembering how you designed the house for later references.
He also really enjoyed watching the wedding sequence with you. Maybe one day, you can run away with him and live a peaceful life tending a farm instead? Would you say yes? Maybe it is not too late to start anew somewhere.

I don't think the Minecraft critique you posited is really material: every instance of automation in Minecraft is an emergent mechanic. No Mojang developer* sat down and said "let's program in automatic farms". An obvious example is the flying machine, which is so obviously not an intentional mechanic but solely emergent. All of these mechanics are also Optional. It's just as possible to play like an environmentalist, sustainably farming and making limited use of non renewable resources.
It's like saying that Mario 64 supports the murder of baby animals.
Also, even in a game where you are indisputably doing Colonialism, both intentional and required (say Sid Meier's Civilization). What are you... harming? By simulating colonialism on pixelated land? Even if that's not your claim, why phrase this as a flaw with a totally fictional world? "You can do things in this video game that, were they real, would be Very Bad" is applicable to like... every video game?
* If you happen to bring up the shitheel Notch, it's worth noting was responsible for maybe 7% of the current game.
i am aware it is emergent! that's part of what my post was about:
Tumblr media
and sure, it is possible to play minecraft in any way you like, but the systems you are given to work with (you can destroy and replace blocks--you are given ways to cut down trees and cultivate new ones, but no way to interact with existing ones, for example) and the progression structures built on these systems (you--obviously--need to accumulate resources to craft, all the things you can craft other than the purely aesthetic ones exist to help you accumulate more resources) assume that you will be extracting resources. in much the same way that it's facile to argue that call of duty isn't about killing people because you can run around the first level of the campaign not shooting anybody for ten hours, saying that minecraft isn't about resource extraction just because (like almost any game) it contains space for oppositional reception and counter-intended play isn't a very good analysis.
anyway, i obviously don't think that you're harming anybody by playing minecraft! i agree with you that sid meier's civilization is an incredibly colonialist and reactionary game with a pretty abhorrent ideology and my playtime in it looks like this:
Tumblr media
this is a strange phenomenon i keep encountering, where people will see me critique the ideological implications of or assumptions inbuilt into a media property and assume that as a result i think it is somehow unethical or morally harmful to engage with it. that's a bridge you're making by yourself!
when i talk about the ideology of a game i am not laying that ideology at the feet of the game--rather, i'm using it as a platform to investigate the normative assumptions that are going into that game. minecraft is not the reason that colonialism exists--but its existence is a reflection of how colonialism has shaped the material and cultural situation in which it was produced.
and this last point is why i do think it is pointless to say 'it is a fictional world'--there's no such thing as a totally fictional world. because it's fictional innit. it has no autonomous existence--a 'fictional world' only 'exists' inasmuch as it is created by somebody living in the real world and it can be interfaced with by other people living in that world. it only 'exists' in the context of such interaction, and as such it can't be neatly removed from reality for analysis--at least not for meaningful and productive analysis!
tldr, i am not saying and have never said: when you play minecraft, you are doing actual real-life harm because the creators sat down and decided they love colonialism. i am saying that the systems and affordances of minecraft have resulted in the creation of extractionist systems of automated slaughter as an optimal strategy and that's important to keep in mind when talking about, say, 'what minecraft is about'

my brain is mush rn but i'm thinkin about a reverse au where it's like. you're their favorite character. like you're a train conductor in a stardew valley kind of game, and ingo and emmet just love you. you're their little blorbo, and theyre very sad they cant romance you (or maybe there's a mod for it lol). or volo gets obsessed with a character in a novel hes read. idk i just love thinking about my favorite characters also being nerds and reading fanfics and stuff. i think maybe someones already brought this up but like i said, brain is mush aaaa
That would be so sweet 😭💕
Both twins often bring game consoles with them while they wait for battlers on the train. Sometimes even for their breaks as well to pass the time if they aren't tired enough for a nap.
Maybe its a farming sim like Stardew, or a little train simulator game, or a game like Animal Crossing. Regardless, you are their favorite character! They spend countless hours in these games, and always try to level up your friendship if possible.
Emmet gives you as many gifts as possible in the beginning of the game week, and laments about how he can only give you a few gifts per week.
Ingo is already decorating the in game house in a way he thinks you would like. He invites you over if he can in game, and enjoys every minute of it.
If you can't be romanced, both twins consider getting the pc version just to mod the game just to be able to romance you.
They especially draw you in the corner of notes if possible. They start keeping sticky notes around so they can draw you so they don't accidentally doodle you on official paper work.
Volo meanwhile would keep the novel of you with him everywhere he goes. It's a comfort book for him, and he adores you. He doesn't read it all the time, but it is one that he rereads when he needs comfort or to relax.
He often daydreams of you being with him, being real. How he could take care of you. Or even being in your world. He'd be in a much better place with you by his side, he was sure.

Ladies and gentlemen, I'm pleased to inform you that after a solid month of consideration, compilation, writing, erasing, questioning and debating, I can finally present to you....
The List of Unique And/Or Weirdly Specific Yomiren Parallels (+ a doodle!)
- Stack generation for their most powerful attack that can be filled by ally/enemy actions
- Stupidly good signature lightcone and awful F2P options
- Dedicated 4pc relic set with stack generation and crit buffs that will take like 5 months to finish farming because fuck you
- Magical memory issues
- Best path(s) in Simulated Universe are not their own (Yomi likes Erudition, Ren likes everything that doesn't give shields- which several Destruction blessings do)
- Unique aspect ratio in character demo (thanks maur I owe you one for this)
- Silly haircut (emo bangs and split hair from the back)
- A reforged divine sword
- Rips in reality for half of their attacks
- Magical memory issues
- IPC bounty (Yomi's is of unknown value though)
- Forced connection to a certain path (Nihility/Abundance)
- A different design with white hair
- Unusual, serpentine eye pupil shape (meant to resemble a snake/dragon.)
- Translatable alias I refuse to use normally (they're only Acheron and Blade when I have a pun to make okay-)
- Ominous red flower motif on literally everything
- Magical memory issues
- At least one reference to Hell (every version of Yomi's name is a reference to the Underworld, and well. Hellscape is a bit of a telling Skill name...)
- Heavy demon imagery (Yomi was -is?- an Oni, and has the face of one on the longer sleeve of her top, as well as a trace named Red Oni. Ren's half of the dragon-demon jade pendant is decidely not the dragon, and that symbol also shows up on the back of his coat and his Ultimate icon.)
- Friendship with a "dead" Nameless (Frebass/Baiheng)
- Appearance in relic lore (Yomi shows up in Pioneer Diver of Dead Waters, Ren is the Passerby of Wandering Cloud)
- Popular ship with a Wind user where they (un)intentionally terrorize said Wind user's mindscape
- No daily messages to the Trailblazer (the Stellaron Hunters yoinked Ren's phone for his so that doesn't count)
- Have I mentioned magical memory issues?
Tumblr media
....Oh. It appears I have!

Would Kip and his posse come across the ruins of a Human bunker during their expeditions? I imagine that it would both be incredible to find and also terrifying depending on how the humans inside died out.
It would be a major archaeological discovery— from the perspective of pokemon, humans were elusive beings that weren’t something you’d spot every day, but you could still catch a glimpse of them every now and then… until one day they realized that no one had seen a human in years. It’s a huge source of debate amongst pokemon scholars— what happened to the humans? Where did they go? Why?
After pivoting careers, Kip has, on multiple occasions, tried to pose the “theory” that humans aren’t extinct but are actually living in a network of underground bunkers, but didn’t have any materials to support his theory beyond the unfounded testimony of his old exploration team partner with no academic background. The second an empty human bunker is unearthed, the archaeological scene erupts into shock— and the fact that it seems like the humans inside died within the last 50 years ago is even more surprising.
Kip spearheads the documentation process after the initial discovery of the bunker, and he’s able to figure out the purposes of rooms that no one else can make sense of (thank you, Twig!)— he tells the archaeologist’s guild that he noticed this room has very high ceilings that are covered in metal pieces that would rain water down and glass cylinders that would light up to simulate sunlight— so this was a tree farm, and was likely used to provide food and purify air.
At one point, Twig would be stumped by his questions about the things that they find in the bunker. The remains that are uncovered raise more questions than answers. There’s too many femurs in one area for the number of skulls in the room. In more than one case, there’s marks on the bones that don’t make sense for the story they’ve been theorizing— the humans died out because their underground gardens failed and they starved to death. A recurring question amongst scholars is why the humans didn’t leave the bunker in search of food. No one is able to figure out why.
It eventually occurs to Twig that the network humans used to communicate across bunkers historically lost contact with Bunker 1801-D around this era, and that the second-to-last message the network received was a distress signal. A fungus in the greenhouses had spread faster than they could contain it. Their crops rotted and made the soil unusable. Their exit doors had failed a few years back and they couldn’t get out. They needed help. The last message to ever come from 1801-D ran for 117 hours before the other bunkers disconnected it from the network.
That last call— made by a crying, frantic soul who said he was the last member of the bunker, that there was nothing left, that he was hungry, that he didn’t want to die alone with the memory of what was done— was answered by every bunker in the network. It didn't matter that he only spoke French and couldn't understand the bunkers who spoke something else— people banded together to keep him company. Those who he couldn't understand sang to him. Sometimes he'd sing back. It became more and more rare as time went on, as did his responses to conversation, but the line didn't go truly silent until 112 hours after it was opened.
The network was silent across its entirety for five hours more afterward, an informal vigil for the poor man they couldn't give anything more than their voices as he was wasting away, before Bunker 1801-D was permanently disconnected from the network— the closest thing to a burial that they could give those who had died. That final call haunts humanity to the point that the phrase “waiting 117 hours” is a euphemism used to describe the way that one may feel responsible for a tragedy despite their inability to prevent it.
Twig takes a trip to pay Kip a visit outside the ruins as people mill about, recovering artifacts and discussing theories. She sees bones that had been picked clean instead of charred black. She relays the story of 1801-D to Kip.
The five hour vigil is resumed, for a few quiet, sorrowful minutes, years after it was made, and they wait 117 hours together.

what sorta games would the fpk family play? together or separate, digital or physical
I'll answer the last part first since it relates to all of them. I tend to place the modern AU somewhere in the early 2000s, so during the time physical games were still dominant. Though I won't limit the game choices to that era, so I suppose we can assume that all those games I'm going to mention released way earlier than they did. Or just not think too much about it hahaha
And they very often play together, they'd have a Minecraft server for sure. They also often play in pairs. Vyrm and Grimm play co-op games, with Grimm doing most of the work and Vyrm fumbling and feeling a little embarrassed about it. Holly and Zote play sometimes, though Zote also joins Hornet as well. And Vyrm also likes to join Holly whenever they're playing their relaxing games, if there's co-op available.
---
Vyrm - he's not much of a gamer, I don't think it's his first choice when it comes to free time, at least. Well, unless he gets into a game that really sparks his interest, then he won't leave it for hours. Minecraft is a big one (particularly the redstone mechanics), though I imagine he would be a big fan of Cities Skylines or any similar game. He'd also enjoy simulator games. His ideal game is something he can play to sit back and relax, while also getting his brain cogs into motion. He wouldn't like mechanically challenging games, and if he ever plays an action game of anything of that sort, he's going to choose the easiest difficulty, and usually ask Grimm for help with all the quests that he struggles with. As for whether he prefers to play together or alone, I think he gravitates towards playing with his family whenever possible, though he definitely has moments where he wants to be left by himself so he can focus, especially with something like a city builder.
Grimm - he likes reading and so I think he'd enjoy story-driven games, especially those which let you affect the course of events, he'd love messing with it to see how far he can push the limits of the system (and how much chaos he can cause). Aside from that, he shares Vyrm's love for Minecraft, though he's more of a builder - he can make some very impressive builds, he has the eye for details and unconventional solutions that push the game's simplicity. Whenever they play together, he loves making Vyrm's redstone farms look pretty from the outside. Speaking of building, he also loves the build-buy mode in The Sims games - he's the type to spend hours making beautiful houses and then not move anyone in.
Hornet - she's the competitive gamer for sure, and quite a toxic one as well since she gets angry easily. FPS games are her favorite, and despite her tendency to do things by herself, she plays a lot of team-based games (and gets into shouting matches if she's on a losing streak). I think she also enjoys very difficult games, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, anything else of the sort. That said, she's not opposed to more relaxing experiences, like The Elder Scrolls games, of Minecraft with the family. In those cases, however, she tends to be the type of player to play it in the most efficient way and constantly look for challenges. Though very occasionally she stops to for a while to admire the view or enjoy the music, showing that despite how moody she might seem on the outside, there is some softness hidden in there.
Holly - definitely the chill and relax type of player, even more so than their father. Similarly to him, they don't have the best gaming skills, and the tend to gravitate towards the relaxing experiences, especially those based on routines. They're the one to have a little farm in Minecraft and spend the whole time tending to it instead of progressing. Stardew Valley, Paleo Pines, Animal Crossing - those are some of their favorite games. As long as they can sit down and have a relaxing time while also taking care of a little farm and cute animals, they will enjoy it. Anything more fast-paced and chaotic often becomes overwhelming to them, though they don't mind watching others play.
Zote - he plays competitive games just like Hornet (they sometimes even play together, though that usually ends with them arguing and blaming one another). He's not good at them but I suppose the determination is somewhat admirable. Despite acting like he's already a pro, he does secretly look at guides and such to improve, if only to beat Hornet and show her that he's better than her. He doesn't have the patience for relaxing games, though he often plays with Holly. For example, if they play Stardew Valley together, while Holly tends to the farm and makes friends with the NPCs, Zote goes to the caves and gets himself killed over and over before eventually ragequitting. But he does come back eventually, so there's that.
Lewk - he's a big fan of Minecraft, he also loves games like Spore. In Spore, he'd play the most peaceful creature almost every time, he really enjoys those little minigames that let you befriend other creatures. He doesn't quite understand the stages after the creature stage, though, they're too complicated for him at this age. He's a little too young to really comprehend most games so most of the time he watches the other family memberd play. Grimm often lets him sit on his lap and play whatever he's playing for a while, even if it gets him killed over and over in the game. Vyrm shows him various redstone contraptions or the cities he built, which Lewk finds very entertaining. Holly shows him their farms and lets him pick things to buy and name their farm animals. And Hornet, like I mentioned in the past, lets him play around in the character creator in games like TES, it's one of those occasional moments where she takes a step back and relaxes a bit. Zote doesn't let Lewk play, if anything, he'd be the one fighting for the controller with an actual toddler.
Milo and Asta - they're too young to play, so they just watch. Sometimes when Grimm lets them sleep on his desk while he plays (he puts a little bed there for them), they'll walk across the keyboard like cats to cuddle with him. Milo sometimes tries to catch the mouse cord while still in his little nest, while Asta gets brave and attempts to climb Grimm's shoulder or bite his hands. Same thing happens while Vyrm and the others play, I just loved the mental image of Grimm focused on his game and having one of his babies chew on his hand, it's such a funny thing to imagine considering he's a god of nightmares hahaha

PCWT: Closet Crafting, Discreet Devotions, and Inconspicuous Altars
Tumblr media
So while not necessarily in the full vein of Pop Culture Witchcraft and Pop Culture Paganism, I’ve had several requests regarding how to work one’s craft discreetly. And so I thought, why not put a little PCW spin on things while I’m at it at least?
Whether it’s a nervousness about being open as a witch, wanting to be more subtle, or in some cases harsh living situations, there’s several reasons to want to be perhaps more inconspicuous in one’s inner ways. Though in the case of the latter situation in particular, --please-- make sure to put your personal safety and well-being first before trying any of these tips. We cannot guarantee that you won’t get in any sort of trouble for these.
Starting off, we have
In-Game Ideas
Do you devote yourself to anyone in particular when it comes to Pop Culture Witchcraft or Pop Culture Paganism that stems from a game-based source? Do you enjoy playing games focused on decorating, building, or life simulators? Then why not try these tips!
Try making an altar or devotional space in games such as Animal Crossing, The Sims, Minecraft using in-game items or even modded items! Rooms and spaces can easily be made for general purposes such as elemental altars, nature-based altars, and depending on who you work with, even items that pertain to them in particular
Use games such as the aforementioned Animal Crossing or The Sims as a form of sympathetic magic! Want to focus on self-care and inner beauty? Why not give gifts to your favorite “Snooty” villager who represents those aspects? Want to perhaps make some misfortune come to someone? Make them into a Sim and get up to some mischief with their Sim-Poppet!
Don’t have space to do your own gardening but want to still do some sort of green witchery? Why not try farming sims such as Stardew Valley or Story of Seasons to scratch that botanical itch for the time being? You can even make digital spell jars in some cases by growing the plants that best represent your purpose and placing them in chests with other items that may also best represent that purpose?
These are just some possibilities in the way of In-Game methods of spellcrafting and the like, but what about those hidden little shows of devotion or love towards someone you work with outside of their mediums?
Discreet Devotions and Obscured Offerings
Hear me out: Devotional Ita Bags. Collect charms, pins, stickers, etc. of who or whatever you work with! Work with a traditional pertaining to solar energies? Why not a brightly colored bag with sun-based imagery? Work with a pop culture deity/entity/spirtit/etc.? Places like Etsy and Redbubble just to name a few have plenty of options when it comes to fan-merch (of course make sure that the stuff from Redbubble is not stolen from other artists)
Playing an RPG game or something similar? Why not devote a playthrough for whomever you wish? Make your character a hunter-based class in honor of someone associated with hunting and the wild! Pop Culture Wise, if working with a game characters, why not play as them if applicable or even bring positive actions to your character of choice? Boost their stats, complete some quests, the whole nine-yards for them!
We’ve mentioned this before, but why not try making private moodboards, Pinterest collections, or even music playlists for whomever you work with? Energy and devotion is still energy and devotion no matter the medium, ancient and traditional or even modern and tech-focused. At the end of the day, it’s your safety and comfort that matters the most.
While this isn’t a complete list of ideas, here’s a few to get yourself started! But as we’ve said before,
Do not compromise your health, safety, and/or financial stability for the sake of your craft.
You. Come. First.
But as always,
Stay safe, have fun, stay spooky! 🦇💜

We have a fancy new fic image! Mostly because there are so few high-quality Delta Squad gifs. (Due to the original game's quality, NOT gif-makers, who are all incredible!) Enjoy!

Deliberation
Tumblr media
The Jedi Temple was amazing.
No one had told you whether you were allowed to wander the halls and explore the rooms, but - given that you had first been discovered by the Jedi while you did exactly that in the GAR’s hangar - the fact that they hadn’t explicitly said not to was more telling. At least, that was what you told yourself as you wandered around the Temple.
The space was expansive, and you found yourself wondering how it all managed to fit into crowded Coruscant, but that mystery was solved when you heard someone make a comment in passing about how the Temple extended slightly into the second level. That had sent you down a different path while you learned about the way Coruscant was set up. The Jedi in charge of the Temple’s archives - Master Jocasta Nu - had been thrilled with your quest for information, and had shown you how to retrieve the necessary files to read on one of the archive’s datapads.
That had been how you spent much of your first full day on Coruscant, but you had been learning the layout of the Temple the remainder of the time and all of your second day. You had been warned by several occupants that the labyrinthine Temple could be confusing and to be sure to ask someone if you became confused. Whether they were just looking for a way to keep an eye on you or a building simply wasn’t challenging after finding your way through dense forests most of your life, you didn’t find it as confusing as they had implied.
You had already known a few places, of course. The Jedi Council chamber was at the top of the temple, positioned so the Council could see out and across the surrounding city. You avoided that area, but made your way to the cafeteria at meal times. You knew about the clothing supply and the sewing room already and didn’t feel the need to spend more time there. Even ignoring the sections you were familiar with, the Temple had so much else to see.
You explored instruction rooms and training areas, spaces that seemed to help prepare for lightsaber use and ones that were meant to simulate battlefields. There were some rooms that were perfectly empty and ready for anything at all. The Temple held more gardens than you were truly capable of understanding, each one reflecting a different climate and the plants that would grow well there. There were kitchens and kennels, rooms filled with music and areas set aside to memorialize those who had come before.
You rushed through some areas, like the mock strategy centers and battleships, trying not to look like someone gathering information for the Separatists. Despite their warm welcome, you were sure some Jedi would be suspicious of you, and you couldn’t blame them.
And then there were places where you spent a little more time. A large creche filled with younglings kept you occupied for a while, playing with and helping care for the occupants and generally assisting the Jedi there. You found a huge space that seemed to be a farm filled with teenage Jedi and, by exploring it, you learned about the agricorps and what happened to the young Jedi who weren’t chosen to be someone’s padawan.
There was also a large garage-like space you wandered into that was filled with pieces of droids. Diagrams on the walls showed the best ways to dismantle different droids, and a few of every kind seemed set up for practice. Those droids were well-loved, a few even bearing paint and - on one B-1 - a nametag. Its name appeared to be Clank.
Not all of the rooms were for everyone, though. You had steered clear of a few areas meant for different species. There had been signs for underwater meditation rooms and a passing Jedi had welcomed you inside, but the idea of being around a large amount of water made you uncomfortable. You hadn’t even attempted to go inside the rooms that offered varying changes to the level of oxygen. Master Plo Koon had nodded as he slipped inside, presumably preparing to remove his oxygen-filtering mask for a short amount of time.
On that note, even for a Jedi Temple, you found a truly mind-boggling number of meditation rooms. In addition to the underwater meditation chamber, there were ones specializing in warmth, coolness, silence, noise, floating, and other criteria that made no sense to you.
Eventually, you ended up in a room that was doing its best to simulate a mountainous climate. There were trees everywhere. You half-expected them to feel false, especially when you sat under one, but it seemed real enough. You settled against the trunk and listened to the sound of a nearby stream. If the room was an illusion, it was a good one. When you closed your eyes, you could almost imagine that the birdsong was familiar and that you were home on Voubos, enjoying a late afternoon walk before you needed to return home.
Your eyes stayed closed and your breathing fell into a steady rhythm. In your mind, the landscape changed from the inside of an expansive room to the forests of Voubos. You had wandered out for a little exploring, maybe foraging for part of the lunch that you had sat down to eat. When you opened your eyes, you would be there. It was only a short walk back to your home with its familiar gardens and cheerful yellow door. Maybe you would read a book before you sorted out dinner. Or maybe you would do some knitting. Your mind felt tired, and the familiar motions of yarn and needles would soothe you.
You had told Barriss that you didn’t meditate and that was still true, but if meditation was anything similar to the half-trance you put yourself into, maybe it held some merit. The back of your mind stayed firmly in place, cognizant of your real surroundings and situation, but part of you was transported to Voubos, pretending the Separatist invasion had never happened. It was relaxing and your whirring mind felt like it could relax for the first time in far too long.
Eventually, though, someone entered the room and you opened your eyes. The young Jedi walking through the door looked politely curious rather than suspicious of you, but you still decided that it would be best if you left.
As you moved down to the main floors of the Temple, you heard an odd conversation ahead. You were almost tempted to call it an argument, but neither side sounded combative. Instead, the calm voice of a Jedi could be heard countering someone else who seemed to be extremely business-like.
The not-quite-confrontation wasn’t in your direct path and it certainly wasn’t any of your business. You weren’t a Jedi and couldn’t help the situation in any meaningful way. That being said, you were a naturally curious person and you had nothing else to occupy your time in the Temple.
Especially since, in the haze of your almost-meditation, you had come to terms with the idea that your exploration was really a way to avoid pondering the opportunities you had been offered.
You changed directions to walk toward the discussion. Surely it wouldn’t hurt anything if you walked through the area and tried to find out what was happening. In fact, your gossip-loving Voubosian roots demanded it.
With that decision made, you ducked slightly through a side hallway to catch a glimpse of the conversation. It was indeed a Jedi - not one of the Jedi on the Council, but one you had seen around the Temple. And she was speaking with-
“...Fixer?” you asked incredulously.
You had never seen any of the troopers caught off-guard, but Fixer turned to look at you so quickly that you were worried for his neck.
“What are you doing here?” you continued when he didn’t immediately say anything. The Jedi just watched silently.
“Trying to find you,” Fixer grumbled. “We were worried when we didn’t hear from you.”
“How would I contact you? I don’t have a comlink or your frequency.”
“Good point,” Fixer conceded reluctantly. “Come on, we need to go find the others.”
“But the-” As you spoke, you turned to look at the Jedi, ready to offer an explanation for Fixer’s presence in the Temple. However, she was gone, having tactfully faded away into another part of the Temple.
“Let’s go,” Fixer repeated, already walking away. He raised his wrist to his mouth. “Found her.”
“Rendezvous at Room 27-A,” his comlink crackled.
“You said the others are here?” you asked, walking faster in an attempt to keep up with Fixer. “Why?”
“Did you miss the part when I said we were worried about you?” Fixer said sharply. “We all decided to search the Temple. It’s faster when we split up. Especially since we had no way to contact you and no way of knowing which room was yours.”
That made sense and you followed Fixer’s broad shoulders the rest of the way in silence.
Room 27-A was on the main floor of the Temple, but set away from the entrance. It was one of the unoccupied rooms, seemingly set aside for meetings or maybe impromptu meditation sessions. By the time you and Fixer stepped inside, the rest of Delta Squad was already waiting for you.
“Finally!” Scorch said, grinning at you. “Didja miss us?”
“You look like you’re doing well,” Boss observed, ignoring Scorch entirely.
“Thought you might have died,” Sev added.
You smiled at the group, surprised at how pleased you were to see these commandos. “Thank you guys for coming here! Fixer said you were worried about me. Is everything okay?"
"You tell us," Boss said steadily, cutting through the disgruntled noises Sev and Scorch made toward their brother. "The Jedi made you an interesting offer. What do you think you'll decide?"
You let out a sigh. "I've been asking myself that for two days and I don't have an answer."
"Is there even a debate?" Sev demanded, voice harsh with derision.
"Uh…" you wavered, unsure whether that lack of debate was supposed to prove that the clear choice was going with them or staying with the Jedi. Delta Squad had been welcoming, but they were also insistent that you should stay away from any action.
Fixer rolled his eyes. "Leave her alone, Oh-Seven. She's just trying to think over all of her options before she makes a choice."
"Of course you would think that's a good idea," Scorch snipped sarcastically. "You'd triple-check your decision to take a piss if you had the chance."
Fixer gave a glare so burning that you, an innocent bystander, cringed from the heat. Thankfully, Boss interrupted before anyone could continue the argument.
"Men," he said, tone stern and commanding. "This conversation ends now."
Fixer closed his mouth and gave a tight nod. Sev nodded as well, the muscles in his jaw dancing. Scorch shook his head and complained, "You never let us have any fun, Boss."
Boss, ignoring the men entirely, focused on you. "Whatever decision you make, it'll impact your life. One way or the other, it has to be your choice, not anyone else's."
You tipped your head at him, willing to obey his order. You couldn't claim to know exactly how Boss had gotten his name, but that commanding presence had to have been part of it.
“Now,” Boss continued, “you wanna show us around this place?”
You gladly led Delta Squad around the Temple for a while until Scorch had dropped several obvious hints about being hungry, then you brought them to the cafeteria where Barriss had taken you on that first day.
“Did any of the Jedi say anything about why they offered to let you work with us?” Fixer asked. Boss sent him a dirty look but didn’t berate him for asking. Scorch and Sev watched with anticipation.
“I asked, actually,” you admitted. “They sensed a bond between us. Nothing permanent or serious, but they know that we’re friends. Friendly, I mean. Well-”
“Don’t go being all flowery on our account,” Scorch told you, pressing a hand to his chest like he had been deeply wounded by your self-correction. “Of course we’re friends. We’re not in the business of rescuing people we hate.”
“Except all the times we’re ordered to,” Sev added.
“And you weren’t ordered to rescue me?” you checked.
“No, but don’t let that go to your head,” Scorch warned, wiggling his fork at you.
You hesitated, unsure of how to take that, but Scorch laughed uproariously at his own statement and you couldn’t help but smile at him.
“Did the jetiise say why they offered to train you?” Boss asked, seeming willing to discuss your situation now that Fixer had brought it up.
You lifted a shoulder in a half-shrug. “They didn’t say much more than they said in the Council meeting. I’ve been through a trauma and they think I’ll need some training on controlling my Force connection so I don’t lash out in an unexpected way. And they’ll train me to work on stealth missions even if I don’t choose to be attached to your squad. Apparently, being able to sneak by most people is one of my natural Force abilities, so it wouldn’t take much training to learn that.”
“And then you would be a Jedi?” Fixer asked, frowning slightly.
“No, not at all,” you denied instantly with a chuckle. “I’m much too old for the right training. I’ll never be an actual Jedi. They would just teach me the basics of control and how to use my abilities to help me survive - whether that’s in a battle zone or in normal life - then I’ll be done. They said they would help place me somewhere I could help the Jedi Order if I want, or I can set out as a civilian. Or I can do something here that doesn’t require being a Jedi. An assistant in the kitchens or the archives, maybe.”
“And none of that stands out to you?” The oddly intense question came from Sev, who eyed you with something close to understanding.
“No, not really,” you admitted. “Let me ask you all a question, though: what do you think about the Jedi offering a civilian a place on your team? As far as I know, that isn’t typical and they didn’t consult you.”
One of the things that the Separatist propaganda had emphasized was that the Republic’s army was made up of clones. They had planted people on Voubos to speak about meeting clones and talk about how chilling it was to see the same face and mannerisms repeated so many times. That had been contradicted the first time you met Delta Squad. Yes, they looked similar, but they all acted so incredibly different that you couldn’t help but think of them as being individuals.
The look they shared at your question didn’t run counter to that observation. Instead, it just reminded you that these men had been working, training, and living together since birth. It looked more similar to a behavior you would expect to see from a group of close siblings than anything that smacked of them being clones.
It was only because you were watching so closely that you saw Scorch put on a carefree attitude. “Always nice to have someone to show off for.”
There was more he wasn’t saying, your gut told you that much, but you didn’t feel confident enough to call him on the lie. Instead, you just turned your attention to the others at the table.
“You’ve shown that you’re willing to help people,” Fixer said, a slight frown growing on his face. “Not sure how well that would translate to the battlefield, though.”
“If any civvie could keep up with us, it’s her,” Sev argued. You were so startled by the unexpected support that you didn’t even argue with the fact that he was speaking about you rather than directly to you.
“I’m more worried about how things would work,” Boss said, his gaze heavy on you. It was hard to meet those eyes, but you managed. “You’ve shown that you don’t follow orders well. If you came along as a civvie expert or some kind of Jedi apprentice, you’re still not a general. I’m in charge of this squad, and I would need to know that you can be trusted to do as you’re told.”
The urge to immediately defend yourself was strong, but you fought it back. Boss deserved more than a rote assurance. All of them did.
“I would like to tell you that I would follow orders without question or hesitation, but I won’t lie to you,” you started, keenly aware of the way they all exchanged another glance. “I’m not used to obeying anyone but myself. What I can tell you is that I’ll do my best to learn how. If there’s anything I can do to help you complete your missions, I’ll do it.”
The silence was thick and heavy, eventually broken by Fixer. “What could you do, though? You’re good with stealth, but you have no combat training, no weapons training. All due respect, but you would be a liability.”
“Maybe I would,” you admitted readily. “But I know how to move through an area quickly and silently. I know how to blend in and gather information. I know how to find trustworthy people. Those skills have to be helpful in some way, right?”
“Maybe,” Boss agreed slowly. “But if they’re not?”
“Then I’ll tell the Jedi I just want to stay here,” you offered. “If you don’t want me to come along, I won’t. Simple as that.”
“Why would you do that?” Scorch asked, leaning forward with an uncharacteristically intense expression on his handsome face. “Why would you leave an important decision about your future to four commandos you barely know?”
“You saved my life,” you told them with a shrug. “Seems like you should get some say in what I do with it. I owe you.”
“That makes no sense,” Sev argued. “You saved us first, gave us a place to stay. We’re square.”
“Huh, true.” You pretended to think about that for a moment, fighting back a grin as you shrugged. “Kark off, then.”
The group fell deathly silent, watching you with various levels of shock and dismay until a sharp laugh from Sev broke the crackling atmosphere. Scorch fell into laughter a moment later, Fixer grinned, and even Boss cracked a smile. You laughed along with them, much harder than the joke itself had merited, but the release of tension was a relief for everyone.
“I still think you need to make your own choices about your future,” Boss said eventually when things had settled down once more. “I don’t want any of us trying to influence you one way or another… but, if it were up to me, I’d be willing to have you onboard.”
Your eyebrows shot upward, your jaw wanting to drop with surprise, but Boss held up a hand. “It would be on a trial basis only. I need to make sure you know: one disobeyed order - a single one - and I’ll have you back here learning how to meditate with younglings before you can say, ‘sorry, Boss’.”
“Yes, sir,” you agreed with a salute.
Boss watched you with a frown. “We’d have to teach you how to do a proper salute, too.”
“Dibs,” Sev and Scorch claimed at the exact time.
“She hasn’t made a decision yet,” Fixer reminded them.
“And we’ll leave her to it,” Boss said sharply. “Are we finished here, men?”
“Yeah, but I think she should show us her room,” Scorch tossed out. “You know, in case we can’t reach her for another two days.”
“Not a bad idea,” Boss agreed, glancing at you. “We’ll walk you back to your room and then we’ll let you make up your mind on your own.”
The last few words were pointedly directed at the rest of Delta Squad, but you felt their weight connecting with your chest like they had been stones tossed your way. Boss had been right earlier. Whatever you decided, you would have to live with it. Either you stayed here to learn from the Jedi and took a position helping them out, leaving Delta Squad to fend for themselves in the field, or you went along with them. There was a very high likelihood you would die on a mission, especially since you were admittedly a liability unless you learned several important skills very quickly.
You stood up from the table a little too quickly, but no one commented on it. Instead, they asked questions about the Temple the entire way to your quarters, discussing each of your answers in-depth. It was a good excuse to keep your speech to a minimum, though you did your best to pay attention to their amusing comments.
In the end, Delta Squad left you alone at the door of your room. Boss reminded you to carefully think everything over, Fixer nodding behind him all the while. Sev just watched you and Scorch gave an exuberant wink. You waved as they walked away.
A moment later, a frantic tapping at your door brought you back. It was Scorch. You opened the door enough to step out, scanning the hallway behind him. The rest of Delta Squad was absent, and Scorch was alone.
“Scorch? Is everything-?”
“You should come with us,” he interrupted breathlessly, dark eyes sparkling with excitement. “It’ll be fun! And we’ll keep an eye out for you. Just think of all the places you’ll be able to see with us. I mean, most of them are war zones, but… But we’ll be there! And you like us. Just keep in mind that you’re getting all of this in the bargain-”
Scorch’s gesture to his own face was interrupted as Sev appeared behind him and smacked the back of his head. “Di’kut. Boss told us to leave her alone.”
“Yeah, so what are you doing here?” Scorch shot back.
“Bringing you back with the rest of us,” Sev explained exasperatedly. “There are only four of us. Did you really think Boss wasn’t gonna notice when you snuck off?”
“There was a chance,” Scorch told him sullenly.
Sev rolled his eyes. “Go while I repair your damage, vod.”
Scorch glanced back at you, giving you the most pleading look you had ever seen on a grown man. “Just think about what I said!”
“Go,” Sev barked.
When Scorch had reluctantly ambled down the hallway, you bit back a smile and told Sev, “You really don’t have to repair any damage. Everything is fine.”
“I know,” Sev replied easily. “I just came back to give you these.”
He passed you a bag holding something that clacked together lightly as he moved. You must have looked as confused as you felt, because Sev relented and offered an explanation. “They’re vambraces.”
“Oh, great!” you said cheerily, trying to disguise the fact that you were still confused. “Thank you!”
“That’s armor, civvie,” Sev sighed, tapping his forearms. “These pieces here. The left one has a comlink in it and the right one has a locator. In case we need to contact you or you get lost in this temple, respectively. They’re yours no matter what you decide, but… try not to lose ‘em.”
He turned and walked away before you could say anything else. You smiled at his back as you stepped back inside your room once more.
It was just as well that you hadn’t opened the bag when Sev was still there. He probably wouldn’t have appreciated your harsh gasp or the tears that had filled your eyes as you reverently fished the vambraces out and put them on.
They had been carefully painted the exact shade that your front door had been. The brightness of the yellow against your bare, impersonal room in the Jedi Temple made you feel centered for the first time since you had seen the smoldering remains of your home.
Just like that, the weight of decision-making disappeared from your shoulders. You were going with Delta Squad.

Author's Note - Was this intended to be a full chapter? Absolutely not. But combining it with anything else was just a little chaotic, so this one stands as its own, rather slow chapter. On the plus side, that means the next chapter shouldn't take nearly as long to finish!
