Oh, how quickly the past is forgotten.
They are part of the reason A03 is a thing now. Not the whole reason, but part of it.
The Great Purges of 2002 and 2012 are when ff.net got a wild hair up their ass about THINK OF THE CHILDREN and nuked any fic posted on there that was explicit. Thousands upon thousands of nc-17 smutfics were lost.
It’s what led to the creation of alternate hosting sites for smutty fic…AdultFanfiction was the one I went to…but thousands of fics would never be recovered.

Definitely meant to post this on my main instead of the writing side-blog, but here we are.
Ugh. I'm not someone who cries at movies, but Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 had me ugly sobbing in my hotel room.
People can say what they want about Disney and Marvel - and I agree with a lot of it - but Guardians of the Galaxy is a solid set of movies and I love it so much!

Happy Valentine's Day!
In honor of the holiday, let me tell you a fun fact about asexual-spectrum me:
When I was younger, I learned to analyze handwriting. Not comparing handwriting like the FBI does, but making personality judgments based on how someone forms letters or spaces out words in a sentence. It's junk science, but it's vaguely entertaining and a fun party trick.
Let me tell you, friends: EVERY time I have analyzed someone's handwriting, it has ended in them asking me out. And in case you think I'm being dramatic, we're talking more than five separate occasions.
I can't figure out if handwriting analysis is inappropriately intimate and I'm just not getting that, or if they think I'm complimenting them and want to go on a date.
Anyway, I don't offer to analyze handwriting very often anymore, but I think there's a lesson to be taken from this:
If you're looking for a good way to start connecting with people you like, apparently you could do worse than learning handwriting analysis.

Happy Commander Cody Day!
Commander Cody + Teaching a Medical Procedure
Soft Fics continue! (Other stories in this vein can be found here.) Things are a little rough right now, so here is the most self-indulgent thing I’ve written in a long time. GN!Reader being intimidated and comforted by Cody in turns, mostly because I’m about to start a new job and I’m super nervous about it. Enjoy!

“Uh, shouldn’t Shatter be the one teaching me how to do this?”
“Shatter is busy,” Commander Cody explained for the fourth time. To his credit, he didn’t seem irritated by the question yet. His voice never held any impatience, but you were still on-edge.
You had never managed to narrow down what it was about Cody that made you so nervous. Maybe it was just the way he held himself. Cody marched around the Negotiator, seeming ready to take on any challenge the galaxy could throw his way. Comparatively, you scurried around, clearly hoping no one would ask you to do something you weren’t qualified for.
It was your typical process when starting a new job: keep your head down, don’t talk unless asked a direct question, and make mistakes when no one can see them. By the time people noticed you, you would already know the job well enough to avoid making mistakes altogether and no one would see that you aren’t perfect. It was a mostly flawless system, except for one surprise variable:
Marshal Commander Cody.
He had ordered you to report to his office and you hadn’t dared to disobey. While you technically worked for the GAR as a civilian expert and reported directly to General Kenobi, you didn’t have the nerve to disobey such a high-ranking officer. Besides, the general would back up his commander’s orders, you knew that without needing to have it confirmed.
And now, here you sat in a cramped office with the Marshal Commander and an open medkit.
“I really don’t see any need for this kind of training, Marshal Commander,” you tried. “I’m not a medical officer, nor do my job duties include any medic-adjacent tasks.”
“Medic-adjacent,” he repeated, with a slight quirk of his scarred eyebrow. “Well, proximity to medic tasks aside, I require every person working on the Negotiator to have a basic understanding of first aid. And you can just call me Cody.”
“I already have a basic understanding of first aid,” you hurried to explain to the man you would never be brave enough to call ‘Cody’.
“Perfect,” Commander Cody said with a firm nod. “Correctly apply this tourniquet to my arm, assuming an injury just below the ulnar artery, and we’ll consider this done.”
You balked. Your knowledge of first aid was extremely general, mostly theoretical, and disappeared entirely under the commander’s watchful stare. Plus, you hadn’t the slightest clue where an ulnar artery was.
“Maybe ‘basic’ is being a bit generous,” you muttered.
“Well, let’s go ahead and show you what you need to know,” the commander said bracingly.
