Gift Exchange Mayhem - Young Justice Imagine
Tumblr media
Requested by Anon - Can I have the team doing some last minute shopping for Christmas?? Maybe the reader waits until the last minute and needs help??
Author's Note - Happy Holidays! I finally was able to finish something.
***
"Dismissed," Batman said, waving his hand as he turned back to the computer to finish up whatever paperwork he had. The mission had gone well, so the debriefing wasn't too painful.
At least for everyone else, you found it excruciatingly slow. Every minute was a minute closer to the Christmas Eve party and the gift exchange.
Everyone moved off. You stayed where you were until you saw M'gann and Conner walk completely out of the room.
You turned, scanning the room until you saw Artemis heading toward the locker rooms. Dashing after her, you grabbed her arm. "I need your help," you whispered, voice tight with the brewing storm of panic in your chest.
"Ow," Artemis hissed, jerking her arm away. "What do you want, weirdo?"
You swore you saw Batman glance over from the corner of your eye. Your breath caught in your throat. "I need help, but we can't talk about it here. Please?"
Artemis sighed, but gestured for you to follow her. You quickly fell into step beside her.
The two of you walked in silence until you made it to the library. She spun on her heel and crossed her arms. "What do you want?"
You admired how cool she looked in this moment. You wished you could be cool. "I..." You swallowed away your insecurities. "I need help finding a gift for the gift exchange."
She raised an eyebrow. "You haven't gotten one yet? It's tomorrow."
"I know!" You threw up your hands, shaking slightly. "I couldn't focus on it, because I got M'gann and I knew I would blow it in the mind link at some point, so I decided I had to not think about it at all until the last minute. That way, she can be surprised."
Artemis sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. "Why do you always do this shit?"
"I wanted it to be good. It's her first Christmas on earth and she's already excited, but I don't know what to get her." You bit your lip and blinked back tears.
"Why can't you ask Conner? I got things to do." Artemis narrowed her eyes with that steady frown she was always inclined to give you.
You groaned. "I can't ask Conner, then she'd know. That boy doesn't hide anything from her anymore."
She rolled her eyes and glanced at the clock on the wall. "Okay, fine."
A grin burst onto your face. "Thank you!" You almost reached out to hug her, but she held up a finger to stop you. Your face burned. "Sorry. Can we go now after we change?"
"Sure." Artemis left the room. You let out a sigh to calm your heart.
***
Artemis' head ached at the bright lights of Star City's Megamall. Christmas music blasted throughout the place as people hurried about.
"Luckily, the west coast is still open huh?" You laughed, nudging her side.
Artemis swallowed back a biting retort. "Yep." You stopped by the big tree in the center of the main entrance. Glancing around, you seemed just as lost as you always were. Irritation bubbled up inside of Artemis. "Let's go. We don't have time. It closes in two hours."
You flinched slightly. "Right." You hurried off to your left, leading the way past a bunch of clothing stores.
Artemis took a deep breath. She shouldn't be so annoyed really. What other plans did she have today anyway? All she was going to do was go home and hang out with her mom. Christmas didn't mean much in the Crock household. Just a time where there was no school and a lot of Dad.
She shook her head. 'Reflect upon your present blessings of which every man has many - not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.' It was a quote from Sketches by Boz by Charles Dickens. A early present to herself when she spotted it in a thrift shop during her Christmas shopping.
You started to head into Spencer's, but Artemis snatched your arm. "No."
"Why?" You blinked. Sometimes Artemis wondered if you were also from Mars.
"There will be nothing for her in there, come on." Artemis pulled you along.
You bit your lip. "I don't know where to even start. What does M'gann even like anyway?"
"Conner." She snorted when you seemed to think she was serious. "You can't give her Conner."
"That would have made things easy. I could just put a bow on him." You dodged a family who was running to the mall.
"You're so weird." Artemis crossed her arms. "Let's go here." She walked into a trendy clothing store. It smelled expensive. Artemis' skin crawled.
You glanced around. "I can't give her clothes. She has...clothes that can be anything."
"Just look around!" Artemis snapped. She saw you deflate in the corner of her eye. She should be nicer to you, but...you were so annoying. You moved away from her to look at the wall of perfumes.
Artemis made herself browse at the other side of the store, ignoring price tags and just looking. Like a normal girl.
***
You sniffed at a perfume. It could work for M'gann, except you didn't know if it would be like giving her clothes. You haven't noticed her making a scent when she shifted her clothes.
Biting your lip, you glanced over to find Artemis across the store. She held up a nice brown moto jacket to herself. A hint of a smile on her lips. You smiled too until her face dropped at the sight of the price tag.
"Well, well, well, you went shopping?" A creepy laugh followed. You turned to find Robin in civies with sunglasses over his eyes. He glanced over at Artemis. "With Artemis?"
You slapped a hand over his mouth. "Are you alone?" You looked around wildly. Your heart stopped when you saw Wally, Kaldur, and Roy standing outside the store with big soft pretzels. Kaldur eyed his while Wally and Roy munched down.
Rob pushed your hand away. "We all saw you two sneak off and got concerned since Artemis and you...never mind."
You pursed your lips, wondering what he meant. However, you had other concerns. "Conner and M'gann aren't with you, are they? Please tell me, they aren't?"
Robin snorted. "Those two are occupied." He crossed his arms. "What? Did you have Conner as your secret santa?"
"No, I have M'gann and I don't know what to get her!" You blushed as your eyes filled with tears. "I'm going to mess up Christmas!"
"Woah, stay whelmed." Rob held up his hands. "Deep breaths." He took a deep breath. You copied him. Your heart slowed down. "Why did you wait until last minute?"
"I would have spoiled it through the mind link at some point. You know how I get distracted, so I made myself not think about it until I knew we wouldn't have another mission." You took another deep breath. "And I asked Artemis because she knows a lot...but...you know she's not happy about it." You saw Artemis march over to Roy, Wally, and Kaldur. "But she said yes."
Rob hummed, rocking on his heels. "We can all help you out with that." He nudged your arm. "Come on, I have an idea."
You grinned, skipping after him. Robin always knew what to do, even if he liked to sneak up on people.
***
Kaldur watched as you, Dick, Wally, and Roy headed across the way into another store with bizarre decorations. Artemis groaned and flopped onto a nearby bench. She crossed her arms, muttering how this was all a waste of time.
"Would you like this..." Kaldur held out the untouched pretzel. He didn't like the look of it. Plus seeing Wally dunk it into some plastic-like yellow substance made Kaldur's stomach turn.
Artemis took it and bit a chunk out of it. Kaldur sat down beside her. He looked around at the bright, shiny walls of the mall. The crowds were lightening now as it neared closing time.
"It was kind of you to help (Y/N)." Kaldur smiled as he saw Wally teasing you. You stuck out your tongue in return.
"A mistake. They are so helpless." Artemis took another big bite.
Kaldur's heart fell slightly. He knew Artemis didn't have a high opinion of you and wasn't shy to voice it. She often didn't care if you heard. Kaldur had to comfort you more than once.
"I know (Y/N) can be challenging." Kaldur pursued his lips, carefully choosing his words. "Not everyone is raised with the same experiences. That is what makes the world a more...intriguing place."
Artemis eyed him. She swallowed. "I'm being nice."
Kaldur nodded. "You are." He met Artemis' eye. "(Y/N) thinks a lot of you." You gestured for both of them to join you. Artemis avoided his gaze and yours. Kaldur saw you frown.
"I got to go. Thanks." Artemis stood up suddenly and walked off. Kaldur watched her go with a sigh. He got up and joined you and the others, hoping his words sank in.
***
You brushed away Wally's hand as he reached to tug your hair again. "Where's she going?" You asked as Kaldur approached.
"I believe she is heading home. Her mother was expecting her," Kaldur said kindly. You nodded. Maybe she wanted to get home earlier too? That's probably why she snapped at you.
"I think you could go for something space." Roy held up a metal print of a space nebula.
"Isn't that racist? She's from Mars. It would be like getting Kaldur something from the ocean," you said, waving the print away. "It needs to be good."
Rob tugged you deeper into the store where they had a retro tv show section. Roy followed the two of you, hands deep in his pockets. You noticed Wally and Kaldur stayed back, whispering to each other.
Your face burned as goosebumps appeared on your skin. You hated when you felt like you did something wrong. Was asking Artemis wrong? They didn't need to worry about your feelings.
Honestly, you only cried once. You gotten tougher over the last few months, or at least you waited to cry until you were alone.
"Hey, you with us?" Roy nudged your arm. You gave him a quick smile and moved to look through another stack of metal prints.
Robin and Roy joked with each other. You sighed, moving to the next stack. Kaldur and Wally joined them.
Suddenly, right after you paged through several tv shows you didn't know, you came across a sparkly Hello Megan print.
"Yes!" You held it up like it was priceless.
"Look at that. She'd love it," Wally said, grinning. "And you didn't need anyone's help."
"Well, you did direct me to the right store." You hugged the print of your chest. "She's gonna love it. Too bad Artemis didn't stay to see it."
Roy scoffed, but Kaldur quickly elbowed him in the side. "She'll see it when we open gifts tomorrow," Roy said, rubbing his side.
You hummed, studying the print again. "It's perfect. Good thing you four stalked us to the mall." Robin and Kaldur blushed. Roy just smirked.
"Hey, I wanted to come to the mall anyway." Wally shrugged. You narrowed your eyes knowingly. He blushed as red as his hair.
"He really just wanted to follow Artemis," Roy mumbled in your ear before flopping an arm around your shoulders to lead you toward the checkout. "Come on, let's buy this thing and head out."
You let Roy pull you along, giggling in delight.
As you all headed out of the closing mall, you passed the clothing store you went in with Artemis. The moto jacket was still there. You bit your lip.
"(Y/N), are you coming?" Kaldur asked when he noticed you stopped. Robin and Wally were teasing each other. Roy stopped with you.
"I need to make another stop. Like really fast." You flashed them a smile and headed into the store.
***
"Ekam ti elkraps," Zatanna said, waving her hands. The Christmas tree in the center of the living room lit up. You clapped your hands.
"Thanks Zat. The lights were getting the best of me." You laughed, tossing the jumble of Christmas lights back into the box.
"No problem." She sneezed. Zatanna had been down with a cold for the last two weeks. She was finally back on her feet just in time for Christmas.
You were glad, especially since this was her first Christmas without her dad. It was your job to keep her busy per Black Canary's request. Of course, keeping people busy was your specialty.
Zatanna stared at the tree. You saw the glimmer of tears in her eyes. "Alright." You clapped your hands. She looked back at you, blinking rapidly. "I think all this work calls for some Christmas cookies."
"But those are for the party?" Zatanna crossed her arms. A genuine smile on her lips.
"Yeah, but we also decorated the place for M'gann, so the least she could do is let us have some early. Besides, Wally will eat them all if we don't get some now." You led her to the kitchen where M'gann was pulling more cookies out of the oven.
You made sure to not think about your gift for her, just in case she was listening to your thoughts.
M'gann's back was turned as you went to the cooling rack and stole two snickerdoodles with red and green sugar. Zatanna pointed to the M&M cookies and you took two of those too.
"You could ask," M'gann said without turning around.
"What?" Your eyes widened. You quickly handed the cookies to Zatanna. "Ask what?"
M'gann turned to look at you. She smiled and shook her head. "Enjoy your cookies and thank you doing the decorations."
Zatanna and you shared a look before giggling. "Thanks M'gann," Zatanna said as you both slipped away.
You took a big bite of cookie. Zatanna nibbled on hers. You both sat down on the couch in the living area and watched the tree sparkle away.
"Z, did you cast a spell on the tree?" Artemis came around the corner. She saw you and you saw a flicker of emotion in her eyes. You didn't know what that meant.
"Yeah, the lights got the better of us," Zatanna laughed, offering Artemis her other cookie. Artemis took it and sat down next to Zatanna.
You wanted to ask her if she was okay or at least thank her for yesterday, but you knew she wouldn't take it well. Besides, M'gann might overhear that you went shopping.
So you stayed quiet, listening in as Artemis and Zatanna talked.
***
"This is amazing!" M'gann gasped as she ripped off the paper to reveal the Hello Megan print.
You tittered, rocking back and forth while hugging your knees to your chest. You sat on the floor of the living area with Wally, Zatanna, and Robin. Artemis, Kaldur, Conner, M'gann, and Roy took the couch and chairs.
Wally poked your side. "She's gonna know it's from you if you keep doing that."
"They're excited. Shut up," Zatanna hissed, poking Wally. You took a deep breath and tried to calm down. However, you still felt like you could burst.
M'gann hugged the print to her chest. "Thank you so much, (Y/N)!" She looked at you. You grinned back.
"Wow, that was a quick guess." Roy rolled his eyes at your giddiness.
"(Y/N) broadcasted their delight. Like almost screaming it." M'gann laughed, handing the print to Conner before flying over to give you a big hug.
You hugged her back, giggling uncontrollably. "I'm glad you love it!"
M'gann pulled back and sat back next to Conner. Conner put his arm around her shoulders. She leaned into him. Your heart melted. Those two were always so cute.
"Not cool at all," Artemis muttered under her breath. You glanced at her to find her shaking her head at you. A jolt ran through you, but you quickly turned to blink away the burn in your eyes.
"Who's next?" Robin asked, looking around.
The exchanged continued. You played with the edge of your cozy blanket you had received as your gift. Taking a deep breath, you forced a smile on your face. You wouldn't cry on Christmas.
***
Artemis yawned as she made her way toward the zeta tube. Her new set of books under her arm. The party had died down. Artemis was the first to head home. Her mother was waiting for her.
"Hey Artemis," you said. She heard you jogging up behind her. She had to hold back the eye roll before turning.
"Yes?" She hugged her books to her chest. You stumbled a bit, tripping over the blanket you had wrapped around you.
"I..." You coughed, blushing slightly. "I wanted to thank you for coming shopping with me yesterday."
Irritation crawled up inside her. "You're welcome." She kept her face blank.
You smiled a little. Artemis took a deep breath at the moment of silence.
"Well, Merry Christmas." You pulled a nicely wrapped package from under your blanket and held it out.
Artemis flinched, blinking. "What's that?"
"A present." You bit your lip, looking down shyly. "For you. I know you...think I'm annoying. I'm working on it, I promise." You glanced back up at her. Artemis couldn't stop the guilt that sank her stomach. "Anyway, I hope you like it."
Artemis raised an eyebrow. "I got to get home."
"Yeah, have a good night." You waved, backing away before tripping over your blanket.
Artemis shook her head as you rushed back out of the room. She looked down at the present. It was nicely wrapped. Guess they aren't clumsy about everything, she thought.
She sighed before ripping it open. Her jaw dropped to the floor when she found the soft leather of the expensive brown moto jacket inside.
Setting her books on the ground, she slipped on the jacket. It felt smooth like butter. She hugged herself.
"Nice jacket," Wally said, walking into the room with a gift bag in hand. "Where you get it?"
Artemis pursed her lips. Rot ate her up inside. "(Y/N)."
Wally whistled. "It looks amazing, babe." He grinned. "(Y/N) must really like you. I know when I first met them, they gave me a PlayStation. I couldn't believe it."
"Really?" Artemis played with the sleeve of the jacket. "I should give this back to them."
"No, you'll just make them feel bad. They wanted you to have it." Wally held up his hands. "Listen, (Y/N) really cares about what you think of them." Artemis' eyes widened slightly. "So maybe...just try to be a little nicer to them...not that you're not." Wally blushed, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.
Artemis rolled her eyes. "I know I'm not, Baywatch." She let out of breath, admitting she always noticed that you took any comment she said hard. How many times had she made you cry? "I'll be nicer."
Wally grinned, nudging her arm. "Thanks."
Artemis punched his arm back. Wally dodged it, laughing. She snorted and picked up her books before trying to get him.
***
The next time you saw Artemis, she was wearing the jacket. You actually started jumping with excitement. However, you forced yourself to be cool as she approached you.
"Thanks for the jacket. I needed a new one." She met your eye before giving you a genuine smile. You felt your eyes widen as you couldn't recall another time she smiled at you.
"You're welcome." A big grin pulled at your lips. You rocked on your heels.
Artemis walked away to go to talk to Zatanna, who was across the cave with Robin. You watched her go, letting yourself bounce a little with glee.
M'gann flew up beside you and gave you a hug. You hugged her back. "Try to get back to whelmed," she whispered in your ear. You nodded, taking a deep breath. However, you felt that you could maybe count Artemis as a friend and nothing could be better than that.

Tell Me Something (Drabble)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Dick Grayson as Robin x Reader (Drabble)
A/N: Daddy's getting hot at the daily bugle body shop
"Tell me something." Dick murmured, hands grazing over your thighs as you climbed into his lap, knees on either sides of his hips. You hummed and leaned in to kiss him lightly.
"I can tell you a secret." You said, remembering a particular bit of juicy gossip you had been waiting to tell him. When you were reminded, you couldn't help the giggles that began leaving you.
"Alright, go ahead."
Your eyes raised in mock offense, "What? No payment? Even the thugs in Gotham get paid better for information."
He chuckled, cupping your cheek with one hand and pulling you in for a long kiss. You sighed happily and gently threaded your fingers through his hair, overwhelmed by the scent of his shampoo.
When you pulled away, he was giving you a lazy smile which you returned, softly capturing his lips one last time before pulling away.
"Are you gonna tell me now?"
You nodded, readjusting yourself in his lap and resting your hands on his chest, "Remember that internship I did at the Daily Bugle?"
He chuckled at your bright grin, "Those three weeks where you were so far away from me I could feel my heart breaking in my chest with each passing second? Hm, not at all."
Your eyes softened at him. He was always so cute, it had your stomach turning into knots. He was rewarded for his sweetness with another kiss.
"Well, I got a piece of juicy gossip about a certain reporter while I was there."
"Are you gonna tell me? Or are you gonna keep dancing around the topic when it looks like you're clearly going to explode if you don't—"
"Clark has a reputation for being the office slut!" You exclaimed happily, bursting into flurries of giggles after that and he was so dumbstruck that he couldn't even respond for a good second.
"What?"
Your giggles trailed off as you nodded, "Well, he's always having one on one interviews with so many heroes and famous people like Wonder Woman and Oliver Queen. And they've seen him come out of his office with messy hair, buttons done incorrectly on his shirt and some even ripped off." You explained, smirking at the implication and double meanings that only the two of you would understand.
He was laughing hard, gripping your thighs as he leaned his head back on the couch. You smiled at him, leaning in to place a warm kiss on his neck before you pulled away again.
"It gets better."
"How could it possibly—"
"They think he's having an affair with someone." You began, pursing your lips to try and control your giant smile and Dick felt butterflies erupt from his stomach at the sight of you. You were so gorgeous, smiling brightly at him while you tried to make him laugh.
"With who?"
"Well, who does he meet very often? Someone who always seems like they're hiding something? Someone who is painfully single because of the unrequited love with a married reporter?"
His eyes widened and an evil smirk spread on his face, "You don't mean—"
You cackled, slapping your hands on his chest, "Superman's having an affair with your dad!"

Tumblr media
sweat trickles down your face as you serve what you believe is the millionth customer of the day. this little ‘side hustle’ is fucking horrible, and only bearable thanks to lottie. she’s made everything a lot easier out here. the summer heat is no joke. “i’m fucking dying out here.” you groan and glance at lottie. she doesn’t seem as sweaty as you are. how could she though, she’s only in that crop top of hers and those stupid shorts that make her butt look oddly nice.
“c’mon! it’s not that hot out here. its just the fact that you’re dressed like its 60 degrees instead of 100 somethin’. jeans and a longsleeve? really?” she snorts. her fingers wrap around the handle of water pitcher, her fingers shoving themselves into your mouth to open it wide. “ah.” lottie rasps out and pours that ice cold water down your throat. you nourish the feeling of the water cooling you down just a little but lottie’s fingers in your mouth distracts the shit out of you. “good enough?” she asks.
“yes..” you mumble, wiping the droplets of water falling down your chin and swallowing it down. lottie’s eyebrows raise and her head scans around the area. there’s not many people nearby and she takes that as a sign. her fingers latch around the bar and pulls the gate down to cover up the bar. the click of the small light above you two flicks in your ears and the first thing you notice is lottie’s fingers wrapped around the bottom of your shirt. “let’s get you a little bit cooler, hm? seemed like you were lying when i asked you if the water was enough.”
she tugs your shirt off, glancing around the small space to find something she can cool you down with. her eyes land on the ice dispenser and she grabs an empty cup, filling it to the brim with ice. “let’s cool you off..” she mutters. lottie takes out an ice cube, placing it in between her fingers, seating you down on the floor behind the counter. she trails the ice down your chest, the cold feeling making you shiver and groan under your breath. “this is new…” you whine. it’s not something you’re very used to. luckily she’s pretty open to new this, and this is one of them.
her lips attach to your neck, her teeth digging in carefully and the cold temperature of the ice lingering way too long on one of your nipples. when you hiss uncomfortably lottie shifts the cube to the other one, her mouth now leaving marks onto your skin. “fuck, lotts.” your voice is airy and your back arches off of the ground. she’s still biting and nibbling, her other arm hooked around your waist. you can feel all the chills shooting up and down your spine while the ice continues to travel through your body. hell, you didn’t even notice that there was about 2 more that she placed. one on your tummy and the other on your midriff.
she pulls away from your neck, shoving a few cubes into her mouth. her cheeks are stuffed like a chipmunk’s. what a fucking loser, you think. her fingers tug at the waistband of your jeans, hastily getting them off of you.
once she believes that they’ve sat in her mouth for a while, lottie spits them out onto the ground, pulling your jeans down in one swift movement, and pressing her cold lips on your inner thighs. chills shoot up your body again, the feeling starting to become all too familiar. you watch her gaze up at you through her eyelashes and she focuses on cooling you off again. lottie’s hands grip at your bare thighs, spreading them a bit wider for more access. “almost done, sweetheart.. i can feel your body getting colder.” she sighs, her ice breath hitting your skin.
when her teeth suddenly sink into your thighs, you intake a sharp breath, tapping at her shoulders for her to stop. it’s been your guys’ signal incase you end up too overwhelmed with whatever she’s been doing. “stop… i- i’m cold enough!” you blurt out, a breathless chuckle escaping your lips. lottie stops like you say, and pulls your pants up to your hips again, buttoning and zipping them. her hands reach for your shirt, pulling it over your head and helping you stand up. “better, right? you’re not that sweaty anymore.” she smiles and fixes the collar of your shirt, running her fingers through your hair and making you look neat again. “mhm.” you hum, rolling up the sleeves of the longsleeve and opening up the bar again.

Dick Grayson x Fem!Reader ︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶
Happy Harbor High School buzzed with excitement as the final performance – a culmination of months of hard work – approached. Among the students, you stood out as a star dancer in the drama department, your graceful movements and captivating performances earning you a well-deserved reputation.
Dick Grayson, equally well-known, exuded an infectious energy that attracted attention wherever he went. With a sanguine personality, he easily charmed his peers with his humor and charisma. While not particularly known for his dancing skills, Dick's willingness to take on challenges and his ability to turn any situation into a memorable one made him endearing in his own way.
On an ordinary day, you found yourself in class, focusing on your notes as the teacher called your name, along with Dick's. You had been paired up for the final class project, a performance that held immense weight in your final grades. The task was to create a performance that masterfully blended dance and drama, leaving the rest of the class to watch and learn.
"You and Dick are up first," the teacher announced, her voice cutting through the chatter.
Your heart raced as you and Dick made your way to the front of the class. This project marked a new level of collaboration, and a mixture of excitement and apprehension coursed through you.
As the teacher explained the project, you exchanged a surprised glance with Dick. This was an opportunity for both of you to showcase your strengths and create something unique together.
"You're the star dancer, Y/N," Dick whispered, a hint of nervousness in his voice.
"And you're the charismatic charmer," you replied with a small smile. "Together, we've got this."
With the explanation over, the two of you got to work. Brainstorming sessions and rehearsals became part of your routine, and it was during these moments that the dynamics of your partnership truly began to emerge.
"I'm thinking we start with a graceful ballet routine," you suggested one day, your enthusiasm evident. "Then, we transition into a contemporary dance that captures the emotions of the scene."
Dick leaned back in his chair, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "How about this? We start with a jaw-dropping acrobatic sequence, something that instantly grabs everyone's attention. Then, we transition into a dance routine that's a mix of humor and heartfelt moments."
You blinked, taken aback by his suggestion. "Wait, seriously? You want to start with acrobatics?"
Dick's grin widened, his eyes alight with excitement. "Absolutely. Acrobatics, then dance. Trust me, Y/N, this will be unforgettable."
You hesitated, not entirely convinced. "I'm not sure, Dick. Acrobatics aren't exactly my strong suit."
He leaned in playfully. "Come on, Y/N, you're an incredible performer. And I promise I'll help you nail the acrobatic part."
With a sigh, you realized that Dick's enthusiasm was hard to resist. "Alright, fine. But remember, if this backfires, we're both in trouble."
Dick laughed, his laughter infectious. "Deal. But I promise you won't regret it."
As the days turned into weeks, you found yourself navigating the challenges of blending acrobatics and dance with Dick's vibrant energy. Your grace clashed with his audacity, leading to moments of missteps and laughter-filled attempts that echoed through the school's gymnasium.
"I swear, if I have to attempt one more somersault, I might lose it," you declared one afternoon, collapsing onto a gym mat with a mock sigh.
Dick plopped down beside you, his shoulders shaking with laughter. "Hey, it's all part of the process, right?"
You rolled your eyes, a reluctant smile tugging at your lips. "I suppose so."
As the performance date drew near, the most critical decision you faced was the transition from acrobatics to dance. This moment held the potential to elevate or derail the entire performance.
"I still think we should start with ballet," you insisted, your voice full of conviction. "It's a classic way to set the tone."
Dick shook his head, his grin playful. "And I still believe a jaw-dropping acrobatic display is the way to go. Trust me, Y/N, it'll be a showstopper."
You stared at him incredulously, your competitive spirit ignited. "Are you trying to out-charm me into submission?"
He laughed, raising his hands in mock surrender. "Okay, maybe a little. But seriously, Y/N, we need a strong start to capture everyone's attention."
With a sigh, you begrudgingly agreed, acknowledging the strength in his argument. "Fine, but you better deliver on your promise."
Dick's grin widened, his eyes brimming with confidence. "I promise, you won't regret it."
The day of the performance arrived, bringing with it a mixture of excitement and nerves. Backstage, you and Dick stood side by side, dressed in your performance attire, your hearts racing.
"Dick, are you sure about this?" you asked, a hint of apprehension in your voice.
He turned to you, his blue eyes unwavering. "Absolutely. Trust me, Y/N."
And so, the moment arrived. As the lights dimmed and the music began, you and Dick took the stage. The acrobatics and dance flowed seamlessly, a mesmerizing blend of skill and charisma that left the audience captivated.
The performance reached its climax, and as the final note hung in the air, the crowd erupted in applause. You and Dick stood side by side, breathless but triumphant, sharing a knowing smile that spoke of the shared journey and success.
Backstage, amidst the cheers and congratulations, Dick turned to you with a grin that radiated pride. "Y/N, that was incredible!"
You laughed, a mixture of relief and exhilaration coursing through you. "You were right, Dick. It worked."
As the celebrations continued, you realized that your journey with Dick had been about more than just a performance. It had been a lesson in collaboration, in embracing differences, and in forming connections that transcended expectations. But above all, it had been a lesson in friendship – a friendship that had been born from challenges, laughter, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zones.
As the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the horizon, you found yourselves on the school's rooftop – a place that had become a symbol of your journey.
"Who would've thought that the popular dancer and the charismatic charmer could make such a great team?" Dick mused, his tone light.
You smiled, leaning against the railing. "Funny how things turn out, right?"
He turned to you, his blue eyes filled with a mixture of gratitude and sincerity. "Thank you, Y/N. This whole experience... it meant a lot."
You met his gaze, warmth spreading through your chest. "You're welcome, Dick. And thank you, too. You reminded me that sometimes, stepping outside our comfort zones leads to the most amazing discoveries."
He grinned, a playful glint in his eyes. "Who knows? Maybe next time, we'll tackle the trapeze!"
You laughed, shaking your head. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves."
As the sun dipped below the horizon, you realized that your journey with Dick Grayson had been about more than just a dance performance. It had been a lesson in collaboration, in embracing the unexpected, and in forming connections that defied stereotypes and expectations. But above all, it had been a lesson in the power of friendship – a friendship that had blossomed in the most unexpected of places and had left an indelible mark on both your hearts.

The Fruits and the Berries
You help Shauna see the sweet beauty that comes from the wilderness, despite the ugly of the past.

Tumblr media
Usually, when Shauna's eyes become stuck on the wild scenery outside, she’s quick to regain control of her mind.
It rarely happens anymore, once a month at most. She will be busy in the kitchen after entertaining your family for lunch, clearing dishes because she insists you don’t do it right. The running sink that she rinses plates in, the cold water against her hands, the breeze that comes through the open window in front of her— all the food shared between loved ones.
She will freeze, if only for a few moments, and within those moments she will experience her every last teenage year again in full. She comes out of it as quickly as she goes in, with nothing but shaking hands to show for the trenches her mind had just sunken into. She will take a breath, one deep breath that fills her lungs with clean warm air, and exhale it all to make room for more.
And when she returns to you, with that closed-lip smile that tells you ‘it’s happened again’, you pull her into a hug and kiss the gentle skin of her cheek and tell her, without words, that you’re there and she’s okay and that’s how it will be until the end of time.
You wish there was more to do. You’d wrench out your heart to replace the blackened parts of hers if you could, offer every last piece of yourself in service to her and rebuilding her love of life.
It’s late one night that Shauna tells you she doesn’t find much beauty in the outside world anymore. She’s fresh out of the shower, sitting between your legs as you comb your fingers through her damp hair.
“I’d stay inside forever if I could,” she hums, resting her cheek against your knee. “Feels like there’s nothing good out there.”
It’s too dark to glance out the window and see much, but even if you could, you doubt you could point out many things that Shauna could watch from afar and find beautiful. The thought pulls at your heart, a loss for the love of life is something you wouldn't wish on a heart as deep as Shaunas. You massage her scalp as she remains lost in thought, and silently put into action a plan to show Shauna at least the little things that make up such a beautiful world.
It’s not until a week later that you finally have the time. Life had gotten in the way of your planning, from work to family gatherings to date nights you wouldn't miss for the world, you’d been lost on a moment to set up. However, Shauna is pulled away one afternoon— she had promised to drop Callie off at a friends on the other side of town and mentioned running some errands on the way home, giving you just enough time to run around the house putting the final touches on what you hope will be something beautiful for the woman you love.
She steps into the home with a tired sigh, rubbing at her eyes as she picks up on the soft tunes of her favourite music being played from the kitchen. She can’t help but smile, curious as to what’s up your sleeve. When she rounds the corner into the kitchen, she catches you just as you are shutting the lid on an old picnic basket you'd pulled from the attic.
“What’s this?” The question comes out a touch more accusatory than she means it to be, but you aren't fazed.
“Date night,” you click the picnic baskets clasps in place and heave it from the countertop. You turn towards your lover, and take in her presence for a moment. “You look beautiful today, you know?”
Shauna frowns, unimpressed. “I’m wearing mom jeans.”
You grin, and twirl your free hand around, gesturing for her to do a spin. She stills for a moment, and then obliges, choking out a laugh at the absurdity of your doting. Shauna twirls, laughs, and laughs some more when you whistle and look at her with such a pure love in your eyes that it's felt in her bones.
And before another word can be spared from her beautiful lips, you’re taking her hand in yours and leading her into the back garden like a high school sweetheart sneaking her out of the house. You wonder, only for a second, whether your love would be so strong had you met in high school, before the woes of the wilderness caused her caution as you lead her out under the sun.
“We can’t eat inside?” She questions, and shrugs when you look at her. “Bugs.”
You don’t speak, but rather lead her into the grass, your shoes abandoned. You walk into the shade of the largest and most beautiful tree of them all, and gesture to the red-and-white picnic blanket already laid down. Shauna lets your hand go as you sit, and she crosses her arms.
“You planned this out?”
“I was a party planner in my past life,” you pat the blanket next to you. “C’mon, hon.”
And because she’s never quite had the heart to keep you waiting, Shauna huffs out a breath of faux resignation, and lowers herself to the ground beside you. Her hair falls over her face as she peers into the picnic basket you unpack, and he can’t fight the smile that blooms.
All of the fruits and berries she loves, wine, bread, cheese. A delicate feast of her favourites— you lay peaches out and fill a ceramic bowl with raspberries and blueberries alike. The dessert bread is paired with compôtes she has yet to try but still eyes when you visit the sunday morning markets. Strawberry wine in glassware gifted by your family for your housewarming party.
There's a sweet silence between you, filled only by the sound of rustling leaves and birdsong. Shauna is lost on words, though she feels in no rush to speak. You hum softly as you finish unpacking the basket, and push a small bowl into her hands.
“Cherries,” she speaks.
“Fresh from,” you pause, “the grocery store.”
Shauna chokes on laughter, smiling down at the bowl of ripe red cherries. She takes a moment of thought, and then looks back at you. “Why’d you do all this?”
You look between her and the bowl, and then over to the house you both call home. It takes a moment to find the right words, but you eventually open your mouth to speak.
“I love you,” you start. “And if you want to shut and lock yourself inside until the end of time, I’ll change the locks whenever they rust and drive spikes into the sidewalk so no one bothers us. But, I look around and I see the same beauty in the world that I see in you, and it truly breaks my heart to know you can’t see it too. I’d like more evenings under the sun with you, until we’re too old to sit on the grass and too grumpy to ignore the bugs. You have taught me so many things about the world, Shauna. I hope you’ll let me teach you about the stupid fruits and the stupid berries and how much I love them.”
The sun lowers a little, pulled to the horizon line on clockwork. It casts a beautiful gold over Shauna, and animates the way she looks at you. Right into your soul, she lays claim to every inch of your heart, and you allow it all the same.
Shauna nods. “Okay,” she says. “Okay.”
You reach over and run a hand through Shauna's hair, pulling it out of her face and in turn drifting closer to her. Your lips meet in a sweet symphony of wine and berries and a promise for another evening spent like this— learning to love the land and the hand that guides you through it. The kiss is long, and tender, and so full of love you need no picnic to sate your appetite.
And when you pull away, you have to wipe a tear from her cheek. You do so without thought, as you always will. You eat, and laugh, and kiss, and drink until all the berries taste the same and the sun sets entirely. When you finally decide to retire inside, leaving the mess of your ministries for sober you to pick up in the morning, Shauna is the one to lead you inside. You trip over your own feet a few times, and nearly stand on a jar or two, but make it inside with tired eyes and fuzzy brains.
Shauna slides the door shut, and looks at you. “Thank you,” she says. “I love you.”
And she locks the door, only until morning.

Disordered (Shadow Of A Bluejay Ch.9)
Whoooo, angst (light angst but angst) in general it's a shorter chapter because it's mostly reformatted from Shadow Of A Bluebird seeing as it covered much of the same ground.
My current plan is three more chapters (including the finale) and a few more mini chapters to cover the remaining episodes and milestones we need to hit to be ready for the finale one of which is gonna be Blue's first time meeting their fellow sidekicks!

Mount Justice October 23, 17:30 EDT
It’d been a week since Batman put you and the team through a train for failure mission. A week to sit on everything that occurred in the increasingly horrifying experience where no matter what you did the situation kept getting worse. You refused to speak after the exercise. You didn’t leave the cave. You simply trained, and trained and trained while rerunning what had happened in the exercise in your mind.
Simulation Alien Mothership October 16th
Artemis was dead. Kaldur was dead. Connor was dead. Dinah was dead. Ollie was dead. Roy was probably either dead or dying and you felt anger that you haven’t felt in a very long time. You were full of rage, rage that bubbled under your skin as your friends and everyone who tried to help them died before your eyes and it bubbled until you reached the boiling point.
Once you, Robin, Kid Flash, Miss Martian and Martian Manhunter were almost out of the mothership. Almost saved the world you snapped. Not at your allies but at the aliens that surrounded you. The strange bug like creatures surrounded your and you let your anger take control and you stormed the Aliens, screaming a battle cry.
“How dare you?! You killed Artemis! You killed Dinah! You killed Ollie! You killed everyone, and I’m going to make your deaths painful!” You sneered, you jumped into action. Muscle memory took control and almost every blow you landed hit hard. Energy consumed your veins and you began zapping or electrocuting the aliens, it was unclear to you. It didn’t matter though and your rage filled alien murder spree continued. Robin forced the Martians to escape and joined your fight only for you to be zapped by an alien he was fighting.
That’s when you woke up. You looked around, you listened to the explanation and all you could do was look down at your slightly shaking hands in guilt.
You stayed away from the rest of the team after that, refusing to talk to anyone. The only person you talked to was Dinah and only to tell her you were fine and didn’t wanna talk about it.
Mount Justice October 23rd
Kaldur had gone in to see Dinah, Connor and Artemis already spoke to her and M'gann felt too bad to look any of you in the eyes. all had left the room, leaving only you, Robin and Wally sitting in the lounge.
The TV was black and silent and the three of you just sat there.
The three of you had all "died" together in the simulation. Wally was your best friend and Robin was his and leaving you three alone well...
"Blue, your floating again" Wally said. He sat on the couch opposite you.
"Sorry, my mind was drifting" You said, falling back onto the couch with a lack of grace the two had never seen before.
"This is awful" Robin said.
"Do you ever think, maybe we shouldn't be doing this?" You asked.
"What do you mean?" Wally asked.
"I know we're the good guys but maybe we're too dangerous to be so freely fighting, I mean, you saw how quickly all of us became soldiers in there" You said.
"Is this because of that weird laser thing you did on the mothership?" Wally asked.
"It's because we're dangerous! Because if we're not careful, if we don't control ourselves we could so easily hurt so many people" You said.
"I mean, Wally you could theoretically break the sound barrier, and Robin and I could kill someone with just our bare hands" Yo looked down at your hands.
"Is it really safe for the people around to us to be around us?" You asked.
"Of course it is" Robin said.
"Yeah, we'd never do anything to hurt anyone" Wally added.
"But it would be so easy for us" You said.
"Is this because of your um... meltdown in the simulation?" Robin aske.
"No, just forget it" You said, getting up and walking out.
Mount Justice October 23, 20:03 EDT
You sat in front of her in a green chair and took off your glasses.
“I’m glad you chose to come talk to me Y/N” She said and you laughed dryly.
“As if I could ever escape it” You joked but Dinah stayed silent, waiting for you to speak. She knew you. She knows you. She knows that those dry, sarcastic jokes are a sign you’re going to open up.
“It was weird at first. I didn’t feel bad after seeing you and Ollie disintegrate but when Artemis died, or when we thought she did this feeling in my chest just appeared. Like a promise or an oath I had to uphold.” You explained and Dinah nodded. “And what was that promise?” She asked, you answered, though still didn’t look up from your hands.
“To get revenge. To painfully tear apart those who killed her… And you and Ollie.” You answered truthfully and finally looked up at her. “And I did. I killed them, so many of them.” Your voice started to shake and you looked back at your hands.
“Did you try to hurt them when you killed them?” She asked and you nodded.
“I wanted to— I did enjoy seeing them squirm as I did it. And seeing them all explode, it just felt…” A single sob escaped you. “It just felt right.” You confessed and you looked down at your rapidly shaking hands. “I promised— I said I’d never do it again. I’d never take a life like that again, but I felt good as I did it.” Warm tears began to flow down your face but you didn’t try to wipe them. You simply stared at your hands, trying to stop the shaking by tightly gripping your knees and Dinah simply sat. Waiting for you to feel good enough to continue.
"You're not at fault Y/N" Dinah said.
"Aren't I though? Four years of progress and yet all it took for me to snap was some stress" You said.
"It wasn't just stress. M'gann's mental state infected you. You thought you lost everything. In a situation like that regressing is natural" She said.
"It's not just that, between the mission in Bialiya, my mission with Roy and this, it feels like, like it's all coming back to haunt me." You told Dinah, though that wasn't the whole truth. You didn't tell Dinah about your meeting with Lady Lilith. You didn't tell anyone that.
"Is it really coming back to haunt you or are you scared it will? Your past will always be there Y/N but you have friends, close friends who care about you. Maybe it's time you told them at least some of it" Dinah said.
"No!" You yelled.
"Absolutely not. They'll hate me" You said.
"Y/N, we classified your file to keep you and everyone around you safe but it's been four years and they haven't come after you. perhaps it's time we think about declassifying some of it?" Dinah suggested.
"No. Not yet." You said and reluctantly Dinah nodded.
"Whatever you decide. You set the pace." she said.
The next week was rough, Canary let you off school and you spent a lot of time in the cave and with Roy. Ollie wasn’t joking when he said that even Roy was worried and he came by to help you try and return to normal while you coped. You were incredibly grateful for the distractions and to spend more time with him. It had been four months since he went solo and in that time you didn’t get the chance to hang out like you used to before. Unfortunately not everything was going great.

A/N: reoccurring theme for me is man being absolutely wowed by his mega strong SO 😩
Fingers tucked into his clothes, you grab him mid-run.
No one can grab him mid-run.
So, he stumbles to his knees in front of you, and looks up. He thinks he sees a halo sitting pretty on your head. There’s a holy choir singing behind him, making him feel floaty and loose-limbed.
“Hi,” Wally says pathetically. It doesn’t matter that you might be the enemy. Right now you might as well be the love of his life.
Because no one else can bring about his downfall quite like that.

Intrusive Thought
(Young Justice x Reader)
Andromeda Series: Installment 1
Tumblr media
(A/N): Maybe now isn’t the best time to start a writing blog since I’m supposed to be finishing my Associates Degree, but I had too many concepts with this Reader in mind. This is more of a sneak-peak than an actual chapter following a story— nonetheless I hope you like this blurb
Sending a thousand-yard stare into the blue sky ahead, you responded to M’gann’s instructions with short confirmations and repetitions. The pressure in your brain from the telepathic link was relatively new, but being linked with the Bioship was more alien. There is a difference between seeing a tree growing up from the earth and experiencing the roots growing deeper in the soil.
Your heart was beating so loud. What if your Instinct was set off by another aircraft or a freakishly large bird? If the Bioship is telepathically rooted in your brain, what would it do? Fling you and the Team across the state?
“You can relax a little, y’know.” Robin must’ve noticed you tapping at the controls, maybe he heard them. It’s always hard to tell what a normal volume is. “It’s not like there are other ships around.”
“Please, like Queen Annie could relax.” Your nose scrunched at Wally’s teasing and it felt like your ears were roasting in direct sunlight. You refused to speak back, you just had to fly the Bioship–that’s all.
“How’s Andromeda supposed to relax if you’re pestering her,” Artemis shot back at Wally. “You’re doing great.” Artemis’s heart was beating steady. She wasn’t great at hiding stress, which was comforting in this case. She wasn’t worried about the trip at all.
“Obviously, it’s because she has the most amazing instructor in the galaxy!” You heard Wally’s position change. It was all fabrics and bones rubbing together forcing you to clench your jaw.
“Wally!” The voices blended together, it was uncertain who said out loud or telepathically. Maybe being linked to the Bioship right now wasn’t a good idea.
The seat belt in Artemis’s direction morphed away from her body and several heart beats grew faster. Leather, coconut, and smog wafted through the air and landed in a muted thump across the ship behind you. It was followed by cologne, tea, and chalk being thrown and landing harder in the same direction. Artemis and Robin teamed up against Wally.
Kaldur and M’gann attempted at urging them to stop, but wasn’t loud enough to pierce through the trio bickering and jacket throwing.
All the sounds at once made your lip twitch as you stared ahead. The voices were echoing off the Bioship, their blood was rushing through their body in tsunami waves, and the fabric of their clothes rubbed together like sandpaper on concrete. Even your own breathing and blood was grating.
‘I hope a jet slams into this damn ship,’ you gripped the controls tighter as fire, smoke, and bioship-bits falling with metal tore through a violent orange and red sky.
The voices on the ship went quiet. Now you could focus on whatever M’gann told you what to do next.
Then you noticed, even though the voices of your team went silent, their hearts were very loud– and fast. You looked to your left, where Artemis had Wally by the collar of his shirt while Robin stood by. All six eyes were on you.
You then turned rightward to Superboy and Aqualad, the same muted, yet disturbed expressions with rushing blood. You then looked over your right shoulder with a burning face at M’gann. The Bioship had morphed the controls from you to her care, like a scared puppy.
“You all heard on the telepathic link?”
“Dude…” Wally was the only one who spoke, having processed the accidental threat quicker than the others despite being mid-headlocked by Robin.
‘Nice going, Andromeda.’

The New Recruit - Kaldur’ahm x Reader
Tumblr media
Requested by Anon -  A story about the justice league employing new recruits in the young justice. Kaldur is both annoyed and in love with one new girl.
Requested by Anon -  Can I get a fic where Kaldur falls in love with some badass girl after she rides on his moto to trash some criminal?
Requested by blackafricanqueen -  Can I get a fix where Kaldur is both annoyed and in love with a justice league new recruit?
Slight spoilers for season four ahead...
***
Kaldur crossed his arms, eyeing the new recruits standing in the main area of the Watchtower. He and Artemis stood together to one side as Black Lightning addressed the new members. “Black Lightning believes these are the key for the league to stay current with the times?” he asked, glancing at Artemis.
Artemis shrugged. “Yeah, he says we need more diversity.” She snorted. “Diversity in abilities and training anyway.”
Kaldur hummed as Black Lightning finished and gestured for Kaldur to join him. Artemis gave him a supportive look as Kaldur left her side. “This is Aquaman. He’ll be in charge of getting you settled and trained on the League’s methods.” Kaldur barely hid his wince. Why did he become the League’s trainer? Couldn’t Batman do it?
Suddenly, one girl, maybe slightly younger than Kaldur, raised her hand. Black Lightning chuckled at the sight before nodding to her. “Is he Aquaman number one, two, or three? Isn’t there three Aquamans now?”
Kaldur narrowed his eyes at her. She just smiled back cheekily. “He’s the second Aquaman,” Black Lightning said, a smirk on his face. “Now I’ll leave you to him.” Black Lightning turned and walked out of the room.
“What now, sir?” the militant-looking recruit asked, relaxing slightly. He must be ex-military, Kaldur guessed. Jefferson never did give Kaldur the files on any of the new recruits. He’ll have to find them later.
“Now we will train.” Kaldur gestured for them to follow him as he turned to lead them deeper into the Watchtower.
“Yes, Aqua Two.” Kaldur looked over his shoulder at the girl. Annoying girl.
“Aquaman is fine,” Kaldur said shortly.
“But what if all the Aquamans are in the same place, then I’d have to call you Aqua Two, so might as well start now.” The girl grinned. Kaldur sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose before looking away. The other two recruits were wonderfully silent. Kaldur led them toward the training room, planning to put the annoying girl through more rounds with higher difficulty as a result.
***
“Is that it?” You panted, grinning at Aqua Two as he frowned deeply. You knew you pushed him too far and he was punishing you. It was very enjoyable to see him become more and more dissatisfied as you met every one of his challenges. Every part of your body ached. You were slowing down. Hopefully, Aqua Two will give up before you do.
“No.” Aqua Two gestured for the other two recruits to leave. “You are done for the day. See you tomorrow.” They quickly left. “I will run another simulation.”
You sighed, taking a moment to catch your breath. However, the simulation started immediately and you barely ducked to avoid a giant ax flying at your head. A huge Viking man formed out of thin air. You smirked and grabbed the ax as he took another swing. Riding the ax up in the air as he attempted to throw you off, you flipped over him to land a kick to his lower back. He stumbled allowing you to flip around him and perform a nerve strike to his neck. The Viking fell hard and disappeared. Two Vikings appeared the moment the other disappeared. You took a deep breath before standing your ground.
***
“Kaldur, aren’t you taking this a bit far? You had her in there for hours,” Raquel said, appearing at Kaldur’s side. Kaldur flinched. He should have heard her come in.
“This new recruit has an attitude problem.” Kaldur crossed his arms. He noticed you were slowing down. You took a hit to the face, toppling over. However, you recovered quickly, rolling back to your feet and taking down the Viking.
Raquel hummed. “You have to stop. This is Wonder Woman’s program. It will kill her.” She reached around and turned it off. You froze as the Vikings disappeared. Kaldur clicked his tongue. Raquel rolled her eyes and turned to you. “Go to the med bay. That last hit must have really hurt.”
“I’m good.” You grinned despite the blood dripping from your mouth. “Ready to keep going, Aqua Two? If you are still up for it?”
Kaldur blushed as Raquel glanced back at him with a smirk. “You’re done. Go home, (Y/N). We’ll see you here tomorrow.” Raquel waved you off and eyed Kaldur. You waved cheerfully and limped out of the room. “So you’re punishing her for teasing you?”
“It is improper.” Kaldur pursed his lips, realizing he was taking out his frustrations on you. Truth was, he didn’t like having to share the Aquaman name. It was the way it had to be, but it certainly led to several situations he didn’t appreciate. For example, being called in when they actually wanted Orin. Very irritating.
“She is just teasing you, Kaldur. No different than how I would.” Raquel shook her head. “I’ll have a word with her to lay off, but don’t take your frustrations out on the newbie because she annoys you.” She crossed her arms.
Kaldur sighed, dropping his shoulders. “I...You are right.” He pinched the bridge of his nose. “Check on her for me.” He met Raquel’s eye. “I will apologize to her once I have time to...calm down.”
Raquel nodded, patting Kaldur’s shoulder. “Don’t take what she does personally. I’m the one who recruited her. She’s sassy, but her heart is in the right place.” Raquel walked out of the room. Kaldur watched her go before heading toward the zeta tubes to go back to Atlantis.
***
You couldn’t believe you had survived this long in the League. After the first day, you assumed you would be pushed out, but here you were on your first official Justice League mission. You brushed off your brand new suit even though you received it only a hour before.
“(Y/N), are you paying attention?” Aqua Two snapped, nudging your arm as he passed. You jerked back into reality. He waved for you to follow him. You hurried along, smiling brightly at the thought of being partnered with Aqua Two. This is a chance to proof yourself to him.
“I am. Ready to join you on guard duty.” You nudged him back. He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose as he led you toward the zeta tube. You knew you were annoying him again with just your eagerness, but you didn’t care. Today was the day.
***
“It’s not every day you get to see the president in person,” you said as you sat on the edge of the roof next to Aqua Two. “He looks taller on TV.”
Aqua Two hummed in response, standing next to you as he scanned the crowd below. The Justice League was asked to provide extra security for the president when intel about an assassination attempt was revealed. An assassination attempt by a super villain nevertheless.
“No sign of any suspicious activity over here,” Plastic Man reported through the comlink.
“Nothing here,” you said before Aqua Two could speak. He narrowed his eyes at you. You shrugged. “What? I can speak too. Otherwise, why give me a comm?”
“Quiet.” He turned away from you, studying the crowd below. You looked too. Several minutes of silence passed. The crowd grew as the president began his speech. You listened, smiling when the president cracked a joke to lighten the mood. Aqua Two’s eyes were on you. You glanced at him. He blushed when you caught him looking.
You gave him a smile before examining the other roof tops. Nothing seemed to be out of place until you saw a slight flash of light reflecting on metal. Moving fast, you threw one of your shurikens just in time to stop a throwing knife from hitting the President in the chest. The assassin stepped out of the shadows and made eye contact with you. “Brutale.”
Aqua Two was giving orders through the comms, but you weren’t paying attention. Suddenly, Brutale threw another knife, but toward you. You were about to duck only for Aqua Two to tackle you to the ground. “Pay attention,” he growled as he rolled off you quickly and jumped to his feet.
“I was.” You hopped to your feet to see Brutale still on the roof. “I’m going after him,” you said before turning to look at Aqua Two. He looked back at you with a hint of concern in his eyes.
“You’re not ready for this.” He grabbed your arm, squeezing tight. Out of the corner of your eye, you watched the president being escorted inside the building by Plastic Man and one of the other new recruits. Brutale watched the president before looking back at you.
You licked your lips. Brutale stepped back into the shadows. “I’m sorry, but I have to.” You jerked away from Aqua Two and fired your new grapple gun to give chase.
***
“Foolish,” Kaldur mumbled under his breath as he watched you go. He tapped his comm. “Is the president safe?”
“Yes, sir. The president is secure,” the recruit said. “Have we captured the assassin?”
“No, (Y/N) and I are in pursuit.” Kaldur ran for the fire escape and quickly climbed down the stairs. “Stay with the president.” He jumped down into the street, dodging the crowd when he saw you and Brutale fighting in the middle of the stage where the president had just been. Kaldur pushed past people, fighting his way to you. “(Y/N), I’m here. Keep him there.”
“Working on it,” you replied as you dodged several throwing knives. One nicked your cheek, but you kept fighting. Kaldur jumped into the fight. Brutale fell back once he realized he was outnumbered. Moving fast, he hopped into the crowd. You and Kaldur shared a quick look. Kaldur held up three fingers. You smiled before sprinting off to the right. Kaldur moved left. He felt proud you had memorized the signals so fast.
Brutale reached a motorcycle that was waiting for him on the street. He hopped on and drove off. “Crap.” You ran up next to Kaldur. Kaldur hummed, tapping his wrist to call his motorcycle. He had it hidden nearby, sensing it would be needed. Your eyes widened as it parked itself next to Kaldur. “Wow, do I get one of those?”
“Maybe. For now, you ride with me.” Kaldur climbed on. You eyed him before snuggling in behind him. Your arms tight around his waist. Kaldur felt a blush come to his cheeks. Luckily, you couldn’t see. Maybe you weren’t so annoying after all? Maybe even a little cute? He shook his head before zooming off after Brutale.
Kaldur followed Brutale closely. “Get alongside him,” you whispered. Kaldur tensed, feeling your breath on his ear. His body buzzed excitedly. He took a deep breath, pushing his thoughts aside. Brutale attempted to throw a few knives at Kaldur’s tires, but he dodged them.
Your arms left Kaldur’s waist. He felt your hands on his shoulders. A glance behind revealed you were standing on the motorcycle seat. “What are you doing?”
“I got this.” You patted his shoulder with one hand as he sped up to catch up with Brutale. Suddenly, you jumped onto Brutale’s cycle. He attempted to stab you, but you dodged it and attached yourself around his neck. Kaldur dropped back, watching worriedly.
With one jerk of the handles, Brutale’s motorcycle turned sharply, sending you and Brutale into the air. The cycle rolled several time. Kaldur slammed on his brakes. His heart stopped when he saw you hit the ground. The cycle flew over you and landed on Brutale who crashed on the ground after you. He heard a terrible snap.
“(Y/N)?!” Kaldur dropped his motorcycle and ran to your side. He tapped his comm. “We need medical assistance immediately.” Kaldur checked your pulse. He frowned at the blood pooling by your head. “(Y/N)? Can you hear me?”
You moaned, opening your eyes. “That hurt.” Your lips cracked that annoying, yet wonderful smile. “Did we get Brutale?”
“Yes, he is over there.” Kaldur glanced over at him. Brutale moved slightly, but he wasn’t going to be able to get away. Kaldur focused his attention back on you when you hissed. “Don’t move.”
“I think I broke my arm, Aqua Two.” You grinned when Kaldur narrowed his eyes.
“Hush now.” Kaldur sighed in relief as an ambulance arrived. “Never do anything like that again.”
“We got him,” you said, closing your eyes.
“You got him.” Kaldur pulled away as the paramedic came up. He went over to join the paramedic by Brutale to make sure he didn’t try to escape. Your laughter filled his ears and he knew you’d be okay.
***
A few hours later, you laid in your hospital bed. The TV played some old western. You watched it listlessly, wishing the pain in your body to go away. Apparently, they gave you some drugs, but the pain was still there.
A knock on the door frame cheered you up. You grinned, looking over at the door to see Aqua Two standing there with a bouquet of flowers. A smile pulled at your lips. Did he really get your flowers?
“Hi,” you said when he didn’t move, staring at your cast.
“Hello.” He shook his head, stepping inside. “The doctor said you are alright.”
“Yeah, just some broken bones. They want to keep me overnight for observation.” You gestured to the chair with your good arm. He took the seat before handing you the flowers. “Thank you.” You held them to your nose, breathing in their scent.
“I was told flowers are a customary gift for an injured person.” Aqua Two smiled tightly as you set the flowers in your lap. “How are you feeling?”
“Good. The painkillers aren’t kicking in super fast, but I’ll live.” You leaned back against your pillows. “Is Brutale in custody?”
Aqua Two nodded. “He is. You did a good job.”
You smiled, thinking it was only a few weeks ago when he was punishing you for being cheeky. “You did too. Couldn’t have done it if you weren’t driving.”
A nurse came in to check on your vitals. She glanced between you and Aqua Two. You bit your lip while Aqua Two blushed. “Everything looks good. Call us if you need anything,” the nurse said, sending you a wink as she shut the door to your room behind her.
“Tomorrow...” Aqua Two stopped and cleared his throat. Eyes on the floor. You watched him, smiling happily. “Would you allow me to escort you home from the hospital tomorrow?”
You reached out to take his hand. “I would appreciate that.” Your heart skipped a beat, his hand felt so strong. “Thanks Aqua Two.”
“Kaldur.” You blinked in surprise. He looked up at you, a hint of a smile pulling at his lips. “You may call me Kaldur.”
“Kaldur,” you said, testing the name on your lips. You liked it. He entwined his fingers with yours. Your skin electrized at the touch. “That’s a nice name.”
The two of you fell into conversation and the time slipped away. Eventually, you didn’t even notice the pain anymore.

Boys VS Girls (Part 2)
Tumblr media
"Todays mission objective: Interrogation."
Said Batman and you all shared glances
Ever since Batman had gotten wind of your little contests, he began incorporating it into mock missions
Once you were diffusing bombs
Another time you were simulating fire rescue procedures
And it seemed today, you would be interrogating each other
"Boys. You need to find out about: The Secret."
You all froze
The secret
It was the best kept secret that the girls had kept
You refused to tell anyone about it
Swearing that you'd each take it to your graves
Even when your boyfriend, Nightwing, had pleaded you kept a firm no
Which was quite an accomplishment honestly
Considering you had to turn down his sweet begging eyes
They had to admit that you all looked quite adorable with blood drained faces and discomfort
"B that's so cruel! Even for you!"
The reason all of you were so scared was because last week, it had been the girls who were interrogating the boys
Needless to say you did NOT go easy on them
Long story short, they were separated to cut the weak ones out
Wally was starved
Kaldur was put into a warm room
Conner was placed into highly stimulating room
And once again, Nightwing was avoided like the plague
He had already received his own training from B
So all you had to do was check up on him and make sure he hadn't escaped
While also giving him food and some cuddles
You could only hope he would return the gesture
But you could tell by the evil smirk on his face that you were dreaming too big
This would take all your strength
All your determination
And all the mental strength you had
And so you found yourself in a dark room with your hands bound to the chair
And in entered Wally and Nightwing
"Uncomfortable, are you?"
"Quite uncomfortable considering Artemis told me you have a thing for ropes."
Wally might as well have burst into flames then and there
Nightwing narrowed his eyes at him before turning to you
"Last chance to tell us babe. Before we actually have to do something you'll regret."
You scoffed
"I'm not scared of you two and I know that you're not gonna do anything that might actually hurt me. So why don't you just stop right here before you do something you'll regret."
You smirked and glanced at your boyfriend
"We both know I can hold a grudge."
That had his cocky smile slipping off his face
"Yeah, I'm out."
"WHAT? YOU'RE SUCH A SIMP!"
"I'M PROTECTING MY OWN INTERESTS!"
"PLEASE YOU JUST WANT TO GET LAID!"
"I'M INTERESTED IN THAT!"
You glanced at Wally
"Wanna try again?"
There was absolutely no chance they were getting you to spill
But just because Dick didn't want to get on your bad side
Didn't mean he was not afraid of poking the bear
The others got grilled for hours
So four hours later you were gathered back into the training room with Batman
They had very much targeted your weak link M'Gann
Once you saw her come in with that apologetic look on her face, you knew you had lost
They smirked at you, turning to Batman
"The secret is that Artemis didn't actually like Wally romantically until 2 months into their relationship."
A slow grin spread on all your faces when you turned to M'Gann who had a victorious smile on her face
You squealed in happiness, hugging her
"That's a secret but it's not the secret." Said M'Gann, cool as a cucumber
They groaned, accepting defeat
"I blame nightwing."
Your boyfriend glared at you and you returned it with a wink
"You're the worst."
It was then that Dinah decided to come into the room
Terrible timing
And it seemed she had heard only the end of this conversation
And immediately jumped to conclusions
"Don't be mad Nightwing. It's not like she stripped with him."
Utter silence
You could hear each and everyone's breathing
The girls looked absolutely mortified
The boys looked shocked af
Nightwing looked like you might as well have punched him
And even Batman looked confused
You hid your face in your hands to avoid the frown on his face
"Explain. Now."
It was then Dinah realized that she had made a mistake
"The guys lost, didn't they?"
You opened your mouth but all the words died in her throat when you saw the glare he was sending you
"Don't be mad at her Nightwing. She did it for me."-Zatanna
"And it was my idea."-Artemis
"Guys, it's okay."
You took a deep breath, shrinking at his gaze
"You remember Zatanna's shitty ex-boyfriend?"
"The one who cheated on her and took every available opportunity to hit on you? Vaguely."
Oh boy, he was really pissed
"Well, after he cheated on her, she wanted to get back at him. So I dmed him on insta and asked if he wanted to 'netflix and chill'."
You were really not improving your case
And with each word he just frowned deeper
You just hoped he wouldn't be too upset with you
You avoided the guys gazes as well
Although you could feel it burning your face
If Conner had laser vision like Clark, you're unsure what would even happen to you
"Long story short. I drove him up with me to makeout point and then left him there in nothing but his underwear until his mother came to pick him up. I didn't do anything though! And I sanitized and exorcised the car as soon as this was done."
Dick looked offended
"You let someone else take their clothes off in front of you?!"
You looked down, pouting at your lap
"I was there to take pictures." - M'Gann
"And I blocked the other path so if anyone wanted to leave they'd have to drive past him crying in his underwear." -Artemis
"And I was there with another guy to show him what he missed." - Zatanna
If they were being honest
They were kind of scared of all of you
Wally and Conner shared a glance
Is this their fate if they ever managed to piss them off enough?
You put on your best puppy dog eyes and the kind of pout that you knew had his knees weak
"Don't be mad? It was just a prank."
He looked unimpressed
"We're talking about this when we get home."
Uh-oh you know what that meant
You sighed, shooting a glare at Dinah from the corner of your eye
She smiled apologetically and averted her gaze
"I'm so telling Oliver about that time you got pulled over."
"Tell him and I'm telling about the incident at the last mission." - Dinah
"Why are you bringing me into this!? If anything it should be about the abs thing since it was Artemis' idea!" - M'Gann
You all froze
And then turned back to the boys
"There are more secrets?"
You all shut your mouths
They shared a glance before smirking
"In the mood for another interrogation?"

WASHINTON, D.C.December 30th, 09:16 EST
You were all in the Hall. The mega screen before you shows the official Justice League Induction and announcement playing on every news channel. Wally and Dick were standing on either side of you, and all of you had your eyes glued to the screen.
“The Justice League was formed for two reasons: first, as an acknowledgment that no single individual, no matter how powerful, can solve all the world's problems alone. And second, to uphold the values of truth, liberty, and justice,” Superman was making the announcement this year. Usually, it was him or Wonder Woman, seeing as the Bat didn’t exactly exude charming. “That, uh, last one's even in the name,” Superman muses, gaining a few laughs from the crowd before him. “These five heroes have sworn to uphold those values,” he continues, and the camera pans over Doctor Fate, Plastic Man, the Atom, Icon, and finally, Red Arrow.
Your lip quirks a bit as you stare at Roy. he had sent you a message this morning, reminding you that you could be standing with him today, but you had just laughed and mused that with how badly he’d wanted this, it’s surprising anyone else can stand up there with him, never mind you, who would undoubtedly steal the spotlight. You were happy for him, you were, but you were also bummed. You all had just gotten into a groove with Roy on the Team, even if it was only for a few missions, and once again, he was gone.
“You are watching live coverage of the Justice League's induction of its five newest members,” Cat Grant’s voice pulls your focus back to the News. “Looks like the entire League has shown up to welcome the new blood. Everyone from Batman to Captain Marvel!” she exclaims.
“I’m glad they didn't kick Billy out,” Wally decides, and you can’t help but nod. Dinah had mentioned briefly that there had been a chance he wouldn’t be. “And I love the fact there's a ten-year-old on the League,” he says, taking a bite of his apple.
Dick hangs his head, and you see Kaldur turn toward your redheaded best friend while the new girl, Raquel, turns to you all, “There is?” she asks.
You elbow Wally squarely between his ribs, and he hunches over, “Ow, Birdy!” he groans.
“Way to keep a secret, genius,” you scoff, glaring at him through your blacked-out lenses.
“Hey, she's on the Team now, right?” Wally defends, one arm rubbing at his side while he eats his apple.
“Is this going to be a regular thing, you just blurt out secrets whenever we get new people?” you ask.
Wally has the audacity to look affronted, “I don’t-“
“You told me about the Watchtower,” Zatanna cuts in before he can say anything else, and you snort.
Wally retorts by taking another bite of his apple and glaring at you.
Everyone’s attention shifts back to the screen, “Superman is now handing out official League membership cards starting with Doctor Fate…” You and Dick both step forward briefly to squeeze Zatanna’s shoulder in solidarity, something she smiles gently in response to, and you can feel the comfort she takes from the action in the seconds you’re touching. “…The Atom, Plastic Man, and Icon.”
“You know, I was the one who convinced Icon to become a hero in the first place. I should be celebrating with him, not hidden away in here!” Raquel complains, and you bite your lip to keep from laughing.
“Welcome to our world,” Kaldur laments.
“Well, I suppose there's an upside, too,” Raquel flirts as she eyes Kaldur. Quietly to Rob, you roll your eyes and fake a gag, which gets a silent chuckle out of him.
“Finally, Green Arrow welcomes his former protege, Speedy, now known as Red Arrow, to this roster of heroes,” Cat’s voice continues, but it’s quickly drowned out by your cheers.
“Way to go, Roy!” Wally shouts, pumping a fist in the air.
“At last, he has his wish,” Kaldur nods.
“Woohoo!” you exclaim, smiling at the screen. “The first of us to make it,” you breathe.
“No one'll call him a sidekick anymore,” Dick nods.
“Wait- Since when is being a sidekick a bad thing?” Raquel demands, and you can feel the twinge in the air. “You sidekicks were my inspiration.”
“Well, see, six months ago-“ Robin explains, but he’s quickly cut off when his communicator starts to beep.
You hover over his shoulder to look at what he’s looking at and can’t help but frown. In the background, however, you can hear as Cat Grant finishes her report, “So there you have it. The world's officially a safer place!”
There are tons of questions being shot out to Superman, who was still running the press conference.
“Looks like we can’t stay,” you announce, and everyone turns to you.
“We have a mission,” Robin tacks on, and the shift is evident as we all turn to the Zeta.

SMOKEY MOUNTAINS December 30, 10:48 EST
“Are you sure it's her? I mean, are you absolutely positive?” Artemis asks, and it’s easy to pick up on her anxiety in the enclosed space of the bioship.
After the alert, you quickly got to the cave and changed before loading onto the bioship. The alert in question had been about a Cheshire spotting. After everything that’s happened in the last few months, especially in Taipei and then again in Louisiana, catching her was a top priority for the team.
“See for yourself,” Robin says, displaying the details on the screens in the bioship.
“This is the security footage from the Asheville Regional Airport. Facial recognition confirms that's Jade Nguyen,” you explain, having witnessed the details when they first came through Robin’s wrist computer. “But you've seen her without her mask. What do you think?”
Artemis stares at the screen for a second before her lips tug down, “It's Jade. Cheshire,” she confirms.
“Agreed, but focus on what she carries,” Aqualad hints. “Is that the case you saw in New Orleans? The one that got away?” He asks.
Artemis’ eyes harden, and her jaw sets, “Yes.”
“Okay, I'm guessing from the mug shot that this Cheshire's the bad guy. But what's so important about that case?” Rocket asks.
You have to bite back the urge to say you mean other than the fact that we fumbled the ball and lost it? Luckily, Robin speaks up first.
“Remember the Injustice League?” he asks, pulling up a photo of your friends from the bayou.
“And their giant evil plants? Uh, yeah,” Rocket confirms.
“Evil and Nasty plants,” you mutter lowly, glaring at the photo.
“The Team and the League put them in prison, but their allies still scheme, and whatever is in that containment case seems important to their plans,” Aqualad explains.
“We had a chance to grab it in New Orleans, but someone-“ Wally tacks on, but you interrupt him with a glare that he seems to miss as he focuses on Artemis.
“But we screwed up,” you correct. It was a team mission and the team’s attitudes and environment that culminated in what had happened. You weren’t going to place the blame squarely on Artemis.
Wally’s eyes dart to you, and you quirk a brow challengingly. He, in turn, scoffs and turns back to face the front instead.
“Approaching Cheshire's jet,” M’gann announces.
Everyone’s focus turns to the front, but when you get close enough, you let out a low gasp, and a wave of shock rolls over everyone at the scene of the downed plane. The crash had evidently been rough, but it’s a sharp note of grief that hits you that has you turning to Artemis, who is resolutely not staring at the crash anymore.
“Looks like there were no survivors,” M’gann notes, and your lips tug down as you try to assess the scene from the air.
“We need to go down,” you decide.
“NG-“ Wally’s scoff has everyone turning to you for an explanation.
“We need to check the wreckage,” you state.
“Are you serious?” Rocket asks, eyebrows raised.
“Cheshire and the case are our responsibilities, we check the wreckage,” you affirm.
It’s quiet for a moment before Kaldur speaks up, “open the hatches,” he agrees, and Wally lets out a puff of air, shaking his head, but stands up regardless.
M’gann opens a few drop hatches for those who can’t fly while the rest go ahead.
Soon enough, you’re spread out through the crash, analyzing anything you could find and looking for any indication that Cheshire was still in the plane when it went down or the case itself.
“How come Homeland Security and the N.T.S.B. Aren't all over this?” KF shouts, asking anyone.
“Cheshire's ID was a League alert,” you answer from where you’re crouched near the front of the plane, grabbing the black box and tossing it to Rob.
“Authorities didn't pick it up, and her jet didn't follow its flight plan,” Robin supplied.
“Flew under the radar, literally,” you note, standing back up.
“The Watchtower auto-tracked the jet and recorded the crash,” Robin continued.
“Then why isn't the League here?” Rocket pressed.
“Because our Boy Wonder has hacking skills and arranged to get the alert first,” Zatanna smirked. “Well that, and because Nightingale said to make it so,” she teases, gaining an eye roll from you.
“And because Cheshire and that case represent our unfinished business,” Aqualad corrects.
Superboy moves another part of the plane before asking the question that everyone had been wondering, “Where are the bodies?”
“Here's one. And it is stunning….” a voice all but purrs, grabbing everyone’s attention.
You can’t tell if you’re relieved or annoyed that Cheshire is standing tall, all in one piece, but you’re positive that this was the best outcome you could’ve hoped for, at least you were until the next voice pipped up.
“I am flora, not fauna,” the voice begins, and your gaze shifts as you spot the camouflaged ninjas along the mountainside. “I am foliage, not trees,” it continues, and your gaze keeps moving up, counting the adversaries before stopping on the man in green. “What am I?” The Riddler possesses his question, and you spot Shimmer and Mammoth behind him, too. He snaps his fingers, and suddenly, pylons are popping up from under the snow, and you groan at the realization.
Within seconds everyone is trapped underneath a green dome, “Seriously? A trap? We’re idiots,” you huff, soft enough for only Dick to hear, and he just shakes his head.
“Come on, you can get this. I am shrubbery, not grass. What am I?” The Riddler urges. “I…
“Am bush,” Robin grits, and you don’t hold back the groan that escapes this time.
“Didn't you think we'd be tipped you were on Cheshire's trail?” Riddler asked. “We're tired of your interference, kiddies. This is the end game. Ordered from above and executed by their master strategist, moi.”
You can’t help but roll your eyes. There was something about Riddler that screamed Narcissistic Personality Disorder, but that could be something you picked up from Dinah’s files.
“Miss Martian, is everyone linked?” Aqualad asks, and the second you hear him, your hands reach back to your back holster, fingers wrapping around your escrima sticks. “Yes,” she confirms, and you make brief eye contact with Dick, tilting your head slightly to indicate a direction. He responds with the same small action in confirmation. “Go!” Aqualad orders, and everyone splits up.
Zatanna makes her move first while you and Dick rush up behind and around her, “Ekahs siht ebolgwons!” (shake this snowglobe) she chants. Within your pylon-ed dome, snow flurries, creating an excellent interference from any direct attack.
The rest of the team jumps into action, using the moment of surprise and confusion to take on the ninjas.
You’ve just knocked one down when Aqualad speaks up again, “Superboy, the pylons,” he orders, and you risk a glance toward your friend with the S.
“Working on it,” he announces out loud, and you focus back on the enemies before you.
“KF-- cradle?” you inquire as you run up, behind Wally. “Ready,” he confirms, turning and dropping down, proffering his hands.
You run up and, with no hesitation, step into Wally’s grip. He’s pushing your body up a second later, giving you enough air to wail your escrima sticks down on the underprepared shadow. It’s reassuring that Wally will always have your back, even in disagreements. As he falls, knocked out, you quickly scan the rest of the battle and manage to spot as Rocket gets hit.
“Rocket’s down, she needs an assist K, and we’ve got a Shadow two tiers up, with some sort of electric disk device, looks like fatherbox tech to me,” you inform the team.
Robin quickly gets up, knocks out the Shadow, and Kaldur moves for the disk. You almost move to help him when you spot a Shadow coming up behind him, but you see M’gann moving in. You turn back to take on another Shadow, this time with Dick at your back fighting his own, but you see it when Conner launches into the air. You’re waiting for gravity to start pulling him back, but it doesn’t.
“That’s impossible,” you note as you use the electricity feature on a Shadow, who then crumples at your feet.
Robin turns his head, and his eyes widen as he stares at what you are.
“SB, you're flying!” he gasps, and your eyes widen too when you catch him using heat vision a moment later.
In his rage, he seems to miss the results of his attack. Your gaze drops, and you can see the top of Artemis’ head.
“Avalanche!” you shout into the link, hoping she’d cleared out of the way in time. You really weren’t trying to relive the Arctic in the real world. It’s silent for a moment, and then your anxiety takes over, “ARTEMIS!” you’re screaming into the link.  “I’m alright!” she confirms, and you let out a breath.
Rob taps your shoulder and gestures up to where Riddler’s still standing, and you nod. The two of you make your way up, targeting Shimmer and effectively knocking her out cold with a mix of a smoke grenade, Robin’s bola, and your well-aimed punch.
With Riddler’s focus on you and Rob, Zatanna floats behind him as the smoke clears, “Tekcajtiarts!” (straightjacket!) she announces, and Riddler’s suddenly restrained, unable to get free.
“No!” he shouts. “I am not the straightjacket type! I am strictly Belle Reve not Arkham!” Riddler argues.
Zatanna huffs out a, “Gag mih!” (gag him!) effectively silencing the Riddler's little tirade.
“Hey Rob, what is broken when you name it?” you ask, a shit-eating grin on your face as you crouch down beside Riddler, who only glares at you in return.
“Silence,” Robin smirks, earning Edward Nigma’s ire.
“Hguone htiw eht ebolgwons,” (enough with the snowglobe) Zatanna’s shout echos’s across the mountain, and suddenly the snow stops.
You all quickly work on the remaining pylons before loading the bioship with Nigma and the captured Shadows.
“Cheshire?” you ask out loud.
“Gone,” Artemis confirms.
“From you? Again?” Wally challenges. “That’s like the third-“
“Enough,” Kaldur cuts in quick. “We need to drop these prisoners off at Belle Reve and return to the Cave, I imagine, the League will want a debrief and an explanation.”
“I guess it’s a good thing, I got the case, though,” Artemis adds, and you can’t help but smile at her.

MOUNT JUSTICEDecember 30, 15:45 EST
You felt like he was staring right at you. Given the whiteouts of his mask, Batman could be glaring at any of you, “Tell me if this sounds familiar. You hacked League systems, disobeyed protocol, and endangered your lives,” he pauses.
You have to fight the wince when you catch Dinah’s eye. She’s standing behind Batman with Red Tornado and Martian Man-Hunter, and she’s got an eyebrow quirked as she stares straight at you.
“And your initiative resulted in the capture of three escaped felons proving Warden Strange runs Belle Reve as a cover for criminal activity…. Well done,” he affirms, and you let out a small breath, gaze darting over to Robin, who quirks his lips in a small smile, one you match.
“And then there's this,” he adds, forcing your attention back as he and Icon approach the case that Artemis had recovered, “Bio-technology integrated with some form of nano-circuitry.”
“Though I am unfamiliar with the species, the bio-component is clearly not of Earth,” Icon confirms.
“We'll take it to the Watchtower for further study,” Batman decides, and the Leaguers head back toward the Zeta.
Canary lingers before walking over to you, mostly everyone else disperses, but you can feel Wally and Kaldur behind you, and Dick’s still at your side.
“I get the feeling that this decision was not made on your own?” she inquires, staring at you.
“I have a team,” you reply loftily. “I don’t have to make these decisions on my own.”
“No, you don’t,” she smiles gently at you, running a hand across your cheek, and then turns to the boys, “and I’m glad to know you see it too.” She says nothing but offers you a pat on the shoulder and turns to the Zeta.
As soon as Canary and Icon zeta out, you turn to the team, shoulders set, “You realize we were set up,” your tone is even, despite the worrisome nature.
“Yes,” Aqualad confirms. “Cheshire and Riddler were tipped and ready for us.”
“They knew we were looking for her, specifically,” you point out, and you can’t help the way your gut swoops.
“Not the mole thing again,” Artemis groans, and your lips turn down. How was it that Roy got to move on, but you were still battling the same demon.
“Mole thing?” Rocket asks, concerned. “Again?”
“We had intel that there was a traitor on the Team,” Wally explains, tone resigned.
“Namely, Artemis, M'gann, or me,” Conner huffs, his bravado cutting through as he steps forward with clenched fists and levels a glare at you specifically.
“It is more complicated than that,” Kaldur argues, placing a hand on Conner’s shoulder.
“And we-“ you gesture between you and Kaldur “-never said that, we only tried to look into the claim to see if it were true,” you argue.
Conner scoffs and shoves Kaldur’s hand away, turning to leave, “But your recent behavior does concern me,” Kaldur adds, following after him. “Your attack on Mammoth nearly got Artemis killed.”
Conner doesn’t respond, though he does stop for a moment. When he winces, your brow furrows, “Conner?” you call cautiously.
“There’s something I need to do,” Conner says, turning back to face you, but his tone is wholly different. “Something I need to tell you,” he admits, and you shift as you pick up the unease of everyone in the room. “Last month, on Thanksgiving, I went back to CADMUS and found a few things out.” Your eye twitches slightly at the mention of CADMUS, but you fight to keep your expression neutral. “When I was cloned, only half the DNA was Superman’s. The other half was human,” he admits, and there’s a shift from everyone else. “That's why I don't have, will never have, full Kryptonian powers.”
Your brow furrows, thinking about what you’d seen today, “You sure? Because you sure seemed to have them today,” Robin teases, voicing your thoughts.
“I've been using these,” Conner says, pulling up his sleeve and showing a patch, “Shields. They suppress my human DNA. I get the flight, the heat-vision, but I think I also get angry. Well, angrier… I’m… sorry,” he explains and only one question comes to mind.
“Conner, where did you get those?” you ask, voice lethal.
Conner winces at the question and your tone but meets your gaze. There’s an honesty there that hasn’t existed in a while, a calmness that stems from finally unloading the truth, “From my human father… Lex Luthor.”
There’s an audible intake of breath from someone behind you, and everyone’s eyes are blowing wide, but you? You’re fuming because if Lex Luthor had that much reach, it meant he must have been the silent bankroller for CADMUS, which in turn means Lex Luthor was responsible for the death of your parents, and that? That was not something you’d be letting go of, not now, not ever.
“Lex Luthor, is your dad?” Dick asks. The surprise is evident, and if not for the topic, it would’ve been a moment to commemorate, catching the Boy Wonder off guard.
“He's summoned me to Santa Prisca,” Conner continues.
The silence is deafening. Your shoulders tense as you try to gather your thoughts, and as you open your mouth to say something about Conner’s decision to keep these things secret, Artemis speaks up.
“Ahhh, listen,” she sighs. “Superboy’s not the only one suffering from bad DNA,” she admits, and you tense further, turning to look at the blond. She pulls up three IDs on the holo-computer before beginning. “My mother is Huntress, an ex-con. The rest of my family aren't even ex. My dad's Sportsmaster, and he's sending my sister, Cheshire, to fly me to Santa Prisca, too.”
You gape at the screen, but it all makes sense: her need to prove something, her secrets, her mother’s desperation, even the reason why Cheshire always seemed to escape when up against Artemis.
“That's why-“ Wally’s voice cracks, and you’re hit with a wave of understanding and regret from the speedster as he stares at the archer.
“Yeah,” she mutters. “I was so desperate to make sure none of you found out. “
“I knew you weren’t GAs niece, but-“ you mumble but stop as eyes shift to you.
“I knew,” Dick negates, and Artemis’ eyes blow wide, and you can’t help but gape at him. “Hey, I'm a detective!” he defends but quirks a smile, “But it never mattered. You aren't your family. You're one of us,” he reminds her.
“You always have been,” you manage to choke out, “nothing to prove,” you remind her, and you can see how the tension melts away from her.
Wally pushes forward and stops beside her. He hesitates on what to say but eventually settles for a small smile, propping an arm on her shoulder and jokingly asking, “So who's next?”
“I am,” comes the somber response from M’gann, and for the first time since the start of these revelations, you watch as she seems to curl up into herself.
“I swear I was kidding,” Wally says desperately, hands up in surrender.
“Queen Bee's been blackmailing me. She wants me in Santa Prisca too,” she admits.
“Blackmailing?” Kaldur repeats as if he hadn’t heard her correctly.
“How?” you press. Your voice is rough, and you notice how M’gann’s not the only one to flinch at it.
“She knows my… true… Martian form,” M’gann admits, but the way she says it makes it seem heavier than your first instinct.
“Bald M'gann? Who cares if-“ Robin wants to make a joke, to lighten the mood, but M’gann cuts him off, and before she shifts, you know why: Bald M’gann had been another cover for a secret she hadn’t been ready to share.
“No,” she interrupts, taking a deep breath before shifting.
If you thought the reactions to Luthor being Conner’s human dad were extreme, it was nothing to how almost everyone reacted to M’gann’s true form. She stood before you, a towering creature, a White Martian. While your information was limited, you had enough to assemble a theory.
You fought not to react, to stand firm and impassive beside Kaldur, just as he did. The only other person not to react was Conner.
There’s a whispered “woah” from Rocket as everyone else releases startled gasps.
“I realized you would never accept me if you saw what I really am,” M’gann tells us, and you ache for her. You struggled sometimes balancing Nightingale and (y/n) Roxo. You couldn’t imagine having kept your true self a secret from everyone, having no one to turn to. It had to have been incredibly draining and lonely… so lonely. Your anger was fading with each revelation, but there was one point where you were still stuck.
“M’gann, did we truly seem so shallow?” Kaldur inquires, and though he sounds the same, you can hear the hurt in his words, the edge you recognize as him questioning his abilities in setting the tone of his leadership.
M’gann crosses her arms, her gaze cast down. Dinah called that stance protecting by avoidance, “I couldn't take a chance,” M’gann admits. “Being a white Martian among the green on Mars, I endured constant rejection….I couldn't face that from-“
“From me?” Conner asks, carefully stepping forward and taking her hand.
The way they stare at each other is enough to tell that they are now having a more private conversation. Dick takes the opportunity to grab your shoulder, forcing you to turn to him, Kaldur doing the same.
“Now might be a good time for anyone else to share secrets regarding CADMUS,” he hints, and your lips part- he hadn’t even bothered to whisper.
“What are you talking about?” Zatanna’s question echoes from behind him, but you standing stock still, staring at him.
“You must be joking,” you hiss as you shrug out of Dick’s grip.
“C’mon, Birdy,” he urges, and you feel Kaldur’s hand on your shoulder.
You shrug off Kaldur, too, before spinning on your heel, pushing past Artemis and Wally and to the computer. Your hands shake a bit while you type, but you pull up everything you have; the news article about your parent’s death, the report on your blood from Dinah and Bruce, and the readings on the genomorphs at CADMUS. You take a deep breath before turning back to everyone now looking at you and at everything you’ve pulled up, eyes jumping between each article and report.
You sniff before reaching into a compartment of your belt and pulling out a mask adhesive dissolution wipe. When you start pulling at your mask, there are a few wide eyes, and when your glare lands on Robin, all he does is smile in return.
“My name is (y/n) Roxo, and when I was six years old, I witnessed the murder of my parents,” you begin. Everyone but Kaldur and Robin focus on you with lips parted and wide eyes. “They were Wayne Enterprises scientists, brilliant actually. They noticed some discrepancies with a project in the labs, cover-ups, and false reports. One had to do with an instance when I was in their lab and was accidentally exposed to whatever the project had been focused on,” You begin. “When we went to CADMUS on the Fourth of July, something about the genomorphs seemed familiar. I later discovered that’s because when I was young, I was exposed to a replication of their abilities, the beginnings of the research that led to the cloning capabilities. It’s what gave me the empath abilities and why J’onn thinks I could manifest further powers, just like the genomorphs have,” you explain.
“Which is why you looked like you were about to whip out some kryptonite when SB here said Luthor was his dad,” Artemis pieced, gaze jumping toward you and Conner. “Because CADMUS-“
“Because CADMUS is his project, and he funded, orchestrated- he was responsible for my parents murder,” you affirm, eyes meeting Conner’s.
“Holy shit,” Wally mumbled, and you couldn’t help but agree.
Conner was staring straight at you despite how focused he had been on M’gann only moments before. His blue eyes were wide as he stared straight at you, his lips parted but closed, and then his expression shifted as he took in the rage in your eyes and again when he saw the hurt. His shoulders sag slightly, and he slowly takes steps forward until he is right in front of you.
“I- I’m so sorry, Bir- (y/n),” he stutters over your name for a second, and you want to hold onto the anger. You want to be mad at him, but his eyes are so open and honest with you right now, and you’re reminded of the Conner who saved you from Cadmus back in July, the one who wanted to do good, to be good.
“It’s not okay, but I don’t… I don’t blame you,” the fact that your blame fell squarely on Lex Luthor went without saying.
He offers a curt nod, “a problem for later?” he adds quietly, and you give a silent nod in affirmation.
“So uh.. I know I’m new, but what now?” Rocket asked, and everyone’s eyes jumped from person to person, waiting for someone to speak up.
“We know that CADMUS has played a much larger role than any of us anticipated when we began this team six months ago, and we know that Superboy, Artemis, and Miss Martian are all expected at Santa Prisca,” Kaldur begins, and everyone’s attention shifts to him. “So we go as a team. Prepared for whatever they may throw at us. The backroom deals and secret alliances end today.”

SANTA PRISCADecember 30, 17:57 ECT
“Superboy’s about to make contact,” M’gann’s voice echoes as everyone focuses on the exchange.
You and Robin were in the bioship with M’gann. At the same time, Kaldur, Wally, Rocket, and Zatanna had taken discreet positions on the island, each of you waiting for the call.
You could feel Robin staring at the back of your head, but you ignored him instead of focusing on what was happening on the ground below you.
“Welcome, Superboy,” Lex Luthor’s voice sets you on edge the second you hear it. Still, you force yourself to watch as Suberboy dismounts the Supercycle. “I'd like to introduce you to my associate, Queen Bee.”
Even though it was expected, your heart begins to speed up a bit in reaction to the developments, “My pleasure,” she greets.
“I believe you know everyone else. Sportsmaster, Mercy, Blockbuster. And our new friend Bane, who's allowed us use of his island in exchange for certain considerations,” Luthor introduces as everyone around him steps forward.
“No one wanted to listen when I said following Bane was a bad idea, and here we are,” you huff into the link, but the rest are silent.
“So the Injustice League was just a distraction. You two have been behind everything from the start,” Conner surmises, painting his expression with shock.
“Heh, a flattering notion, son, but we have many friends,” Luthor sidesteps, and your skin crawls at the way he calls SB son.
“This one of your friends now?” Conner asks as a helicopter begins to approach and then as it lands.
“No, my boy,” Luthor smirks. “One of yours.”
Conner glares at the copter until the door slides open, “Artemis?” the name rings out with a tone of shock, and you roll your shoulders, trying to force yourself to relax.
To her credit, she plays her role well, “The hero thing wasn't working out. You get how it is. No trust,” she scoffs, seemingly indifferent to the developments around her. “This is where I belong,” she adds, and you flinch.
“You’re up, Miss M,” you announce, and she backs the bioship up a bit, making a circle around the island and de-camouflaging the bioship before parking it in the air above the group.
“It's a fast-growing club,” Queen B announces as M’gann descends to the ground.
You reach for the rope, securing yourself to the repeller in preparation for when you’ll all be making your move.
“So… you’re just going to ignore me?” he asks cautiously.
Your glare sharpens in his direction, but it’s difficult to make out with your mask back.
“I know you’re upset that I-“
“Upset? Dick, I’m furious, you pushed me into revealing things they didn’t need to know! Things I trusted you enough to share about, privately!”
“They needed to know!” he argues. “(y/n) you consistently come to the rescue, you throw your life on the line for us, you did it in the Bayou, you did it for Wally in Seattle, you did it last week for me in the Circus. You do it all the time, because you know these things about everyone, you know when they need the support, but no one- outside of Kaldur and I, even had the slightest inclination. They needed to know, because today is more than the conspiracy of the last six months. Today could be the end, of it all, for you. Today could be the answers you’ve been looking for since Dinah took you in.”
“It wasn’t your call to make,” you hiss.
“No, it wasn’t. But this team fights better, fights stronger, when it’s united, and you’ve always been able to make us get our shit together better than anyone else can,” he sighs.
You glare at him but refuse to respond, and his shoulders drop.
“Why are they here?” M’gann’s startled gasp forces you both to look back to the ground from your spots within the ship. “You promised!” she cries.
“I’ve kept your secret and my promise,” Queen B argues, tone deadly. “Now, you keep yours,” when M’gann ducks her head, the monarch smirks, “Good girl.”
“Give me more shields, and I'm in, too,” Conner decides, and your lips twitch down. Espionage was not his forte.
Luthor walks closer and stares at Conner briefly before smirking, “My boy, you're a terrible liar.”
Conner’s eyes blow wide before winding back for an attack. However, before he can, Luthor plays his card, “Red Sun.”
Conner does well with his role. His entire body relaxes, face falling flat, arms hanging limply at his side as he stands straight with a muted expression, staring at Luthor.
“What do you want us to do?” Artemis asks, stepping forward, prodding the meeting along.
Luthor nods his head once, and Sportsmaster gestures to Artemis and M’gann. “You two, follow me.”
“What about Superboy?” M’gann asks, eyes sliding to Queen B.
“He'll be fine. He simply requires a few adjustments…” she trails off.
Everyone but Superboy begins to follow after Sportsmaster, “Bring him along,” Luthor orders, and Blockbuster moves toward Conner.
Your breath catches as you wait to see what happens. You’d all agreed that it’d be Artemis, M’gann, or Conner’s call on when to move, given they were the three in the thick of it. So when Artemis starts running forward, bow in hand before shooting at Blockbuster, trapping him for the moment, before turning around and aiming at her father.
“Sorry, Dad. Wanted to play you like you tried to play me but I can't let them mess with Superboy's head!” she shouted.
“M'gann, be a dear and take Artemis down,” Queen B orders.
You look at Rob as you both step up to the drop-hole.
You let out an audible groan as you stare at the boy across from you, “After,” is all you say.
He nods in affirmation, “milkshakes?” and you nod in agreement.
M’gann lifts Artemis in the air but then uses the distraction to fling Queen B backward and into a tree. She falls to the ground unconscious, and you wait for the verbal confirmation. Artemis shoots a shot at her dad, and then M’gann lets her down.
“Queen Bee is down,” M’gann confirms. “Superboy, you're safe from her control.”
"I may not be much of a liar, but I fooled you,” Conner announced as he approached Luthor.
“And I'm so proud,” Lex states sarcastically. “I take it Miss Martian cleaned Red Sun from your mind?”
“And confirmed Nightingale, Aqualad, Robin and Kid Flash rescued me from Cadmus before you had time to install any other programming,” Conner shoots back.
Luthor sighs, “All true. Personally, I blame Dr. Desmond.”
As if verbally queued, Blockbuster frees himself from Artemis’ trap, charging at Superboy.
You observe as Bane’s goons start engaging, and the supercycle quickly lays down cover fire while SB gets busy with Blockbuster.
Artemis and M’gann alternate between defense and offense until, “Guys, reinforcement time,” the blonde calls.
Rocket and Wally are the first two to make it to everyone, and you glance at Rob, “Ready?”
“Go,” he confirms, and you both drop-down, trusting the rope and the bioship as you go. You yank the stop when you’re only a few feet off the ground, and both you and Robin stop abruptly before releasing yourselves, dropping to the ground and landing agilely on your feet.
You take a second to scan your surroundings. You spot Kaldur facing off with Luthor and his assistant, an unconscious Queen B in his arms. You turn instead to take on some of the goons. You and Rob were methodical in knocking down person after person, you hear the cocking of a gun behind you, and you turn with wide eyes,
“Ekoms dna srorrim!” (smoke and mirrors!) Zatanna chants and the gun turns to smoke, which then turns into a giant serpent, winding its way around the goon’s body. “Egnahc ekans otni sgnidnib!” (change snake into bindings); she continues, and the snake becomes a rope.
You’re frozen in surprise for a second, but that’s knocked away when Bane appears and charges at Robin, Zatanna, and you simultaneously.
“Shit!” you manage to grit out in surprise.
Your hands start moving blindly, a hand going to your hip where your grapple is. You quickly twist the cord out of the gun before whipping it and your arm out to the side in an arc. The tensile strength of the cable is enough to stop Bane as he falls forward with the three of you.
You and Rob push him off and to the side. Robin covers you while you quickly peek at Zatanna, who seems knocked out. You look up in time to see Bane get back up and start fighting with Robin. You're on your feet when he gets pushed back, facing off against Bane.
“Hola Chicita, it’s been some time,” he teases, head tilting down at you.
“Not nearly long enough, Bane,” you huff.
“Etaerc Elagnithgin Snoisulli!” (create nightingale illusions) Zatanna’s rushed chant whips through you, and you can feel the prickle of her magic as it washes over you, and suddenly, there are dozens of you all facing Bane.
Bane’s surprise is visible as he scans each and every duplicate of you. "Gotta love an army of NG,” Rob smirks as he pushes himself up.
You smirk in return and pull out your ring daggers, several duplicates doing the same or arming themselves with escrima sticks and marble bombs before you’re all running at Bane. He gets distracted by the ones jumping up at him directly and misses when the true you slip around him with one of your blades out. You cut through his tubes of Venom, weakening him. Then you turn with an escrima stick crackling with electricity and plant it firmly at the base of his neck, watching with satisfaction as it brings him to his knees and then as he collapses.
You pull back, and with the moment you have, you take in a deep lungful of air, finally able to breathe. As you look around, you realize the fighting has stopped. Artemis and KF are standing by an unconscious and tar-trapped Sportsmaster. Superboy, Miss M, and Rocket are posted up by Blockbuster. You stare down at Bane as you realize who isn’t still here, and Robin joins you a second later.
“NG?” his voice is hesitant, as he notices how you’re gripping your escrima stick and dagger, your body tense, as you stare at Bane.
“He got away,” your voice cracks as you say it, and your fists clench tighter. "Luthor-"
When Robin touches your shoulder, you both recoil quickly; his lips part as he stares at you and his hand.
“I.. I felt-“
“I’m sorry,” you whisper, tugging on all the strings threatening to burst free, trying to cram your emotions back in their place to keep them from leaking out and affecting everyone around you. You drop your weaponry, hugging yourself as you try to compact your feelings.
A different hand lands on your shoulder. When you turn your head, you see Kaldur beside you. You can feel yourself unraveling just as fast as you attempt to stuff it all down.
“Stop,” you say as you attempt to shrug him off.
“It is okay to feel angry, my friend,” he reminds you, eyes burning with the same rage you feel, and you know in that second that it is the same rage, it is your rage, that he’s taking it on, for you.
“Kaldur, stop, that’s not- you shouldn’t-“ you huff, but with each move back, he follows, until suddenly he’s holding you in a tight hug, and you can’t move anymore. “Stop,” you beg, gripping on to his arms.
“Allow us to help, epitrépste mou na sikóso aftó to város. stiríxou páno mou, chrisimopoíise ti dýnamí mou, méchri na anaktíseis ti dikí sou. Eímai statherós, paliós fílos. (let me carry this burden. lean on me, use my strength, until you regain your own. I am steady, old friend).”
His words wash over you, and you finally do that. You stop pushing against the bits that are bleeding. You can feel Kaldur stiffen when he finally feels the whole barrage of your emotions, but quickly, he tightens his hold on you. When tears start to fall from both of you, all you can do is sag into him in relief.
“Den eínai díkaio. Xéfyge. Tha éprepe na eínai edó. Tha éprepe na logodotísei gia ta enklímatá tou, ton rólo tou. Échoun fýgei kai eínai exaitías tou. Eímai tóso kourasménos kai tóso thymoménos, to niótho óli tin óra kai prospathó tóso sklirá na min to afíso éxo. Allá giatí eínai eléftheros?” (It's not fair. He got away. He should be here. He should have to answer for his crimes, his role. They're gone and it’s because of him. I am so tired and so angry, I feel it all the time, and I try so hard not to let it out. But why does he get to be free?) the words tumble from your lips in sobs of atlantean.
Part of the truth you’re admitting was too raw to admit to everyone else, none of the sidekicks had ever seen your anger, your rage— Kaldur had. Kaldur was the one who he lped you learn how to manage it. He was the one who taught you, the one who showed you how to channel it into something better.
“Thýmose, Poulí, tha diatiríso tin isorropía kai gia tous dýo,” (Be angry, Bird, I will maintain the balance for us both) he answers, his voice as calm as ever, and you can’t help but marvel at him, how he can hold your anger, your hurt, your rage, but present as calm, and keep it from seeping out when you can’t do anything but make a mess.
You know the team’s watching. You know they’re concerned and want to tell them it’s okay, that you’re okay, but you’re not. You know that. Dinah would know what to say and how to tell the team that they did a good job and that they should enjoy the win, but you can’t. You can’t tell them that you can’t enjoy it, not when the mastermind of it all managed to escape.
Quietly, Kaldur helps you back onto the Bioship. Vaguely, you hear the conversations happening around you.
“It is always like this,” Rocket scoffs, dropping into her seat.
“Told you,” Wally chimes, but you can feel his gaze on you.
“Hey, disaster averted. Feeling the aster,” Robin muses as he settles next to you but keeps a distance.
“Agreed, this has been a good day,” Kaldur nods, fists clenched as he turns to you, “but it is not the end.”
“No,” you ground out in confirmation, and you can feel the promise in his words, “it’s not.”

♡⠀⠀syn. a wounded blade returns home, and of course like a kindhearted individual you are, you treated his wounds. ♡⠀⠀cw. semi fluff, not proofread, 1.3k words, fem reader ( no prns mentioned ) maybe ooc. a continuation / sequel to the archfiend

the odor of antiseptic wafts thickly through the air, bandages are securely coiled alongside blade, he winces slightly at the sting of the antibacterial ointment poured over the open gash in his arm. a fresh bruise was planted on his forearm, vivid purple swelling proudly.
“i keep telling you to stop stumbling into danger, i’ll be the one responsible afterwards”
blade doesn’t respond, only a miniscule twitch on his brow is perceived. you glanced upwards, descrying your knight’s displeased expression, a tinge of guilt qualms inside your core.
“but those imbeciles are targeting you, how can i let that type of situation slide?” he says.
blade asserts the word imbeciles with every enmity one would have harbored for their worst enemy. you pause abruptly, emitting a sigh. blade is the embodiment of an obsessive lover, for sure, and you do not have the right to substitute that outcome. he is not your lover, naturally, but you are doubtful if blade perceives it that way too.
you knew that blade is head over heels for you, but you have no capability to reciprocate his love, saying that you are impotent in such feelings. he ceased to believe, however, and continues to believe that one day redamancy will eventually present itself.
excluding the pester, you are thankful that he came home safely, although a few scars and a severe wound are intended, at least your soldier is back.
but his abiding adoration with manslaughter — you are the one at fault. if it weren't for him enshrouding his true identity, you would've ended up in the hands of the guards authorities. you have maimed that soldier with vengeance, concocting a blight that costs his unalloyed soul. your madness birthed a demented warrior, that's what you discern at least.
“i will kindly force you once again to stay safe during unwanted combat, understand?”
ironic it was for you to say the word kindly, for it was humiliatingly apparent that you were crossed that blade was injured. it is not a form of romantic love whatsoever, merely a form of that you care regarding his physical condition.
“every combat costs at least a scar, otherwise it doesn’t have the right to be called a combat” he says, crimson eyes pierce through yours.
you declined to respond, however. blade knew you noticed his words, and you were lucid enough to empathize with his desire to convey them. to him, you are fragile, akin to a subdued rain.
he knew you were only honest when the night was hushed; there is a poem latched onto the walls of your throat, and nights like these, sincerity crawls from your flesh, like a scourge, a miasma. if blade is by your side, you never dither to let the viciousness of your words slither down your lips, because he understands you are mourning, mourning what could have been, what will not be, and what you can’t save, thus far you go on hoping.
today was unusual, your lips quiver and are ajar, yet no words seem to leave.
“i don’t want your pity, blade” you upbraided, tethering his arm with another veneer of bandage.
you never wanted to scar blade further, because you were the one who scarred him first.
blade winces, “and why do you say that?”
…how you still, sometimes crave understanding.
rage is something you've learnt to wear. however, blade's anguish folds your spine and resides behind your ribs. you are taken aback by his presence. you’re here? the question remains as a lump on your throat. and now that you think about it, you've never been kind to blade either.
how did he get so close that you have to dissect him out from under your skin?
recollection is a deathbed. remembering is a grave. the recollection of him is like a scab that you keep scratching till it sears. a burn, a keepsake, or something to grasp at that returns the favor.
you refuse to be plagued by anything less.
how have you turned brittle love into such devastation? so much greed? you insisted you didn’t love him, and you never will, yet a sun-sized ache pulsates deep within the bowels of your palpitating heart. the sight of him injured, drenched in mortal blood, in spite of your lusterless eyes deceiving you to neglect his situation, something shifts your perception to extend your arm to embrace his suffering.
terrible, terrible person assumes that tyranny and love are interchangeable.
your heart knew no name more ferociously than his. a passage that burns under your tongue.
you shift from the bedsheets, a packet of bandages still in hand as your heart is burdened by uncertainty. the malice in your tongue will forever be an obscenity, hence why you never spoke truthfully.
“my work is done here, do you crave anything?” you ask as you feign insouciance.
“[name]”
blade’s baritone voice reverberates across the vacant room, where he is seated on the insalubrious bed, tousled and soiled. something fervent exudes down in that icy tone he has. you shiver in fear, a grasp suddenly latches onto your wrist.
“do you need something?” a response slips past your lips.
blade slides his arm as it rings around your waist, fingers gradually lacing with yours. with hesitance and a hitched breath, you stepped forward only for your stomach to be pressed against his broad chest, earning a gasp.
fingertips run over the temples of your forehead, moderate enough to spare you from pain. a steady tenderness soothes you, irises swelled tenfold. the burden surges.
“you’re warm,” he says, his distinctive icy tone slowly thawing.
“why do you worry so much?” you shift back to steer clear of his proximity.
“...”
blade scowls, a crease forming on his eyebrow. your avoidance of his touch riles him, he just misses you, can he not? even if he lends a helping hand, you avoid him regardless. he avows that he has known you well for decades, but the censures hitherto left unsaid leaves him reconsidering that if he sincerely does.
so he hoists you up onto his lap, the facet of his thumb dight your cheek. reluctantly, his face inches closer to you, foreheads swept against each other.
“you have a fever, i’m telling you”
“i don’t.”
“your body temperature is rising, and you look pale”
“...i can take care of myself”
“i doubt that”
“should i repeat myself again?”
blade’s scowl deepens, an obvious expression of worry is omnipresent, which you can’t neglect so easily.
“stop looking at me like that with your pity in your eyes” you exhort with crass inflection. “just… tell me what should i do to make you… feel better, instead of you taking care of me”
amusement laces his grandeur, the shimmer in his crimson eyes vacillates; you admit that the countenance he is wearing right now is hilarious.
“well," he begins with a hum, reaching his hand to the contours of your defined jawline. “kiss me, and i’ll be alright.”
he exchanges a reticent smile, his lips chiseled upward in a way that makes both men and women sigh dreamily.
you heaved a sigh in defeat, acceding. merely for the sake of saving yourself from the headache; otherwise, he would keep pestering you until you gave him a response. he may be pushy when he wants to.
your fingers dug in blade’s underjaw, half-lidded eyes stare into the chasmic depths of his visage, slowly slinking closer.
…ah, this feels strange
warmth burgeoned in blade's chest, flames aflame as you drew in closer, lips brushing contact prudently for the first time. the lingering stench of your fragrance, the sweet, fragrant aroma of your hair, left him lightheaded, as butterflies waltzed in his stomach. but warmth encapsulated him as he slumped into the kiss, your lips unfathomably soft against his.
being able to breathe isn’t supposed to be that hard, especially if you are deep inside a passionate kiss. you shouldn’t comply with blade’s offer, but oh but the insurmountable worth of devotion beckoning inside a kiss that felt loveless.

Y/N, judging: how does it feel to be the smartest of the group considering that the Impulse is obviously in love with Tim?
Jaime, in love with Y/N: shut up.

Impulse, trying prank Y/n: so who is he?
Y/N, trying to piss everyone off: his work wife.
Jaime, in front of Nightwing: you're not my work wife. You are a man-
Y/N: Husband then.
Jaime 'Why can't my shy boyfriend be shy around goddamn Nightwing' Reyes: you're not my husband either.
Y/N, fake gasping: so this is just an affair for you?
━━━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━━━
Y/N @ Jaime, not knowing the poor boy has a crush on him: I mean ... You piss Tim off so much that one day I'll have to marry you just to make him angry.
━━━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━━━
Y/N, getting stuck at Party without Impulse, Jaime or Tim: they always said that my personality would take me in bad place in life.
━━━━━━━━━▼━━━━━━━━━
Impulse, about Jaime, when they first met: why don't you like him? I mean, he is as snarky as you.
Y/n, stuttering: are you kidding? I don't not like him!.
Impulse: you may want to stop turning invisible every time he enters the room then.

Tim, team leader, doing his team leadering, fighting off a breakdown, as usual: Y/N you're gonna talk to them.
Y/n, feeling shy and turning invisible: why me? Why not Impulse or Beetle?
Tim: Because usually, Beetle blows something when talking doesn't work.
Y/n, about to cry, sighing: true.
Tim: and people want to drown Impulse when he talks.
Y/N, feeling sassy again and turning visible: also true.
