DC headcanons but you can tell who's my favorite

For some reason Wally cries everytime he eats chicken nuggets with the Titans

Not even Wally knows why this happens

It's only with the original Titans. No one else. They have a rule that says Wally isn't allowed to eat chicken nuggets when he's around them because they all hate to see him cry

Iris sleeptalks. Barry sometimes has full conversations that make no sense with her at four in the morning

Hal has a video that lasts 40 minutes saved on every single piece of technology he has. It's about Iris (who was asleep) and Barry (very much awake, but probably delusional) arguing about whether koalas are evil or not

Tim had a Tumblr blog where he posted photos of Batman and Robin that looked like they were taken from very close angles

Jason follows it. One time he was complaining that his favorite blog hadn't posted anything in years. When Tim asked him to show him what account it was, he panicked, tried to run away, hit his head and passed out from exhaustion

Jason is still confused about that, but no matter how much he insists, Tim refuses to give his secret away

I….have too many…and I reached the photo limit aaah.

1) the beginning scene where red tornado wakes up and assigns em the Freudian roles

2) the Halloween party scene,,,just the general way their friendship is still forming in the beginning

3) WHEN TIM UNMASKS FOR THEM AND HE LOOKS SO HAPPY😭

4) the whole binoculars thing is just so funny

5) cissiecassie. Nuff said

6) okay the entire baseball arc is my Absolute Favorite. I love when they make casts play baseball for no reason. Also Tim’s so funny like “what are they gonna do? Get scared of a kid in red and green tights?” Only for the aliens to immediately go “LOOK A KID IN RED AND GREEN TIGHTS LETS SURRENDER” fjfjfjdjjd

7) the entire campfire scene in the beginning issues but specifically the ending when everyone’s asleep except Kon and he’s lamenting about not being able to grow up and be left behind and quotes Peter Pan. I think about this scene daily, waaaah

8) the part where the supercycle goes crazy, the jokes were just so funnny idk

9) the iconic “SUPER OR NOT, I’LL DECK YOU IF YOU DON’T SHUT UP!”

10) the apokolips arc in general tbh but specifically the part where Cassie is scolding tf out of kon like yessss. Also her just showing hella good leadership skills in that arc chefs kiss chefs kisssssss

11) Kon stopping cissie from killing a man and then later helping cassie try to calm cissie down. Then when Cassie’s mom enters Kon flies and carries cissie while plastered to the ceiling. I loveee cissie n kon a lot

12) the part where Bart tries to cheer kon up and it’s ends up w kon on top of Bart yelling HEY BART DO YOU WANT SUSHI you know the one

13) the part where red tornado points to Anita and is like who’s this did u do the necessary procedure for letting in new members or whatever and barts just like “nah we just let her in” and red tornado is like “of course u did 😑”

14) the yj squad got locked out of their own hideout and kon wants to break open the door bc he doesn’t wanna miss his Wendy show but Tim tells him not too bc the door is expensive lmao. And then Bart uses his powers to enter and call/annoy Tim while he tries to open the door from the inside. And in the background kons just like “let me in let me in let me in” until Tim is just like CAN U SHUT THE FUCK UP and they start fucking arguing about whether Wendy the werewolf stalker is a stupid show. Meanwhile cissie is getting her ass beat inside the headquarters. Kon breaks the door anyways. It’s so perfectly chaotic .

Okay I’ll stop now but OUGH, lots of scenes I like. It’s also very funny n chaotic all the time

7. A quote of them that you remember

HMMM, not so much a quote, but imo the most memorable Eri moment of the series was her giving a righteous, impassioned speech to YJ-14 on Haru's behalf and then proceeding to fight him with explosive... kicks. AFTER AN ENTIRE SERIES, when the chips are down... it turns out she's a kicker, not a puncher. Amazing XD Say hello to my little friends: Common Sense and Reasonable Discourse!

14. Best storyline they had

I will always love that they stopped the show for two whole episodes to give us the Appliyama election and results, and I will never shut up about Eri being such a badass on Knight's yacht. It was all just really fun. Even though the show never addresses the unhealthy ways in which Eri pushes herself, I do like how this arc gave us probably the most it ever has of Eri's authentic, non-idol self: her code of honor, her grace after falling just short of her goal, her trust in her friends, her unwavering dedication and strength, both in body and spirit.

15. Worst storyline they had

It would be easy to pick her showdown with Beautymon, but I'm not going to do that. I think it had the makings of something interesting; if the focus hadn't been solely on physical appearance, but more about losing yourself to popularity, manipulating the masses, or the impossible standards of influencer/idol culture. No, instead I'm going to pick her intro episode, because it felt like such a baffling way to introduce us to her. She just... does not come off as sympathetic or likable in the slightest to me. Episode 6 is a much more enjoyable episode and gives us a bit more interesting character material to work with, but my first time through the series as I was still trying to decide if Appmon was worth watching, neither Eri or Astora made the best first impression. I really do love her though!

Dokamon:

13. Your favorite friendship they have

This is such an interesting question, because I'm struggling to recall if he even has meaningful relationships with most characters, besides Eri, Mariperi, and Gatchmon (and even then, those relationships are all pretty unbalanced). He'll do anything for Eri (or to get Eri to notice him). He certainly developed feelings for Mariperi, and Gatchmon is his "aniki"... but most of the time, Eri exists firmly in the center of her own universe, Mariperi appreciated the time he spent with her but basically rejects him, and I seem to recall instances where Gatchmon enjoys Dokamon looking up to him and agreeing with him, but is any of that what you could call a mutual friendship?

His relationships outside of those three, to my recollection, are almost non-existent. Regardless of whether Eri and Astora are in "bite each others head off" or "we're more similar than different" mode, does Dokamon ever have much to say to Musimon? I'm not sure he's even that close with Eri's other Appmon, even the ones he fuses with... iirc, they make a pretty dysfunctional team in the Appmon Games. The situations where he does interact with other characters, I think it's almost exclusively on behalf of Eri (i.e. doing whatever he thinks she wants), and it's often antagonistic in nature. "Don't get in Eri's way!", "Listen to Eri!", etc. I think Offmon looks up to him and he certainly worries about Offmon, but that feels more like a sibling relationship than a friendship.

Off the top of my head, I do think the only 'mons he would acknowledge as friends might be Gatchmon and Musimon. I do like the episode where they all run away together and end up helping that kid. I think that's the closest we see of Dokamon hanging out with those he considers his equals, and it did result in some great moments with the three "main" partner Appmon. But it's also possible I'm overlooking some more obvious friendship moments, and if so, I apologize Doka-chan! T^T

30. The funniest scene they had?

All that said (and it might sound like I'm negging on Dokamon through all of this, but I'm not!), my favorite Dokamon moments are when he's comedy relief... specifically, the instances where the joke is that he's too... well... stubborn and/or oblivious to care about whatever the MotW's silly shenanigans are. I'm thinking about Episode 14 (Puzzlemon), where his solution to being trapped in a room with giant heavy marbles is just to start punching them indiscriminately, physics-based repercussions be damned (Dokamon, NO!). And when Calcmon is depowering everyone using the power of math, Dokamon gets so angry that it just doesn't matter what numbers are coming up on Calcmon's screen; Dokamon's gonna punch that creepy nerd, and it's gonna hurt, full stop. Is it that he's not, strictly speaking, the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree? Is he so blindly optimistic in his own abilities? Or is he 100% loyal and willing to throw down for Eri to such a fault that it turns around and becomes an asset again? Maybe all of the above, and I kind of love him for that.

These were all interesting questions to think about, thank you!

Mind sharing some of your favorite kon fics?

there's one series with that i reread a lot, wherein kon gets out of cadmus as a child and clark is a single dad. it's super cute and it's lois pov (we love and worship lois in this household). admittedly, it's not really a kon-centric fic, but he's such a treasure there, it's my life mission to recommend it. you can read it here.

i've been also reading 'straight on 'til morning' that is not completed yet. it actually takes kon's trauma seriously and i love peter pan quotes in the notes. it's probably the only longer work that i've read that actually refers to plotlines from superboy (1994). (fair warning: it contains timkon and lots of batfam, which is something i personally usually avoid when looking for superfam fanfics)

sorry to disappoint, but there's nothing else i can think of. it might look like there's plenty of kon fanfics, but barely anything in the tag focuses on him, and if it does, it never actually gets into the original themes tied to his character. and lots of it is yj cartoon content, or timkon that treats kon more like an accessory than a fully fleshed out character, or there's weird clark bashing.

so if anyone has any other recs, feel free to add them here, i am starving for content too <3

I got my Shaunajackie playlist on shuffle and currentlly A House In Nebraska by Ethel Cain is playing! It's a big one for the Feels, not just purely about those two (tho there's this really good edit with it on here that plays in my head whenever the second verse starts in), but also the whole small-town feeling of loss. I've not experienced anything irl that compares, but placing yourself within the narrative gets me in a big OOF.

I was wanting to ask that for a really long time and the prev anon already opened this trend so, what's your opinion on the YJ Robin(the cartoon) and the Lego Batman Robin(from the 2017 movie)

Tbh, one of the best things about YJ Robin was his laugh. I have a hc that Dick has a hyena laugh, and YJ Robin definitely had a creepy cackle that's not necessarily on the same track as a hyena laugh, but was still, like, an unusual laugh.

One thing people really liked about YJ Robin was his wordplay. Asterous. Heavy on the dis. Yada yada. But his iconic, "why isn't anyone ever just whelmed?" quote was essentially the same quote from the movie 10 Things I Hate About You. So boooo on not being all that original.

I think they totally should have given Cass the wordplay thing since that's something I've seen her do in the comics. Obviously, Cass wasn't in that season and the writers wouldn't have even thought of bringing her in back then, but looking back on it, I wish she had that quirk instead. I just think it would have been more fun to see Cass questioning words and being like fuck these prefixes/suffixes.

Anywho. My favorite YJ episode was the one where the Red Tornado "siblings" captured the team and were torturing/killing them. Dick's character was so nicely balanced in it. He was playful and had some jokes as shown when he started doing the whole spelling bee thing with Artemis.

Dick: "C O O L. Did she W I N?"

Artemis: "N O."

Dick: "D R A G."

Also, stuff like this:

Artemis: "So now what?! Red Tornado is one of the powerhouses of the League! How are we supposed to take down two of him?!"

Dick: "They do seem pretty user-unfriendly."

What can I say? The kid had jokes, and I was pretty fond of them. But to balance the jokes, he also had skills. Like when the building got flooded, he whipped out his respirator (ahem... something Dick should've done with his rebreather in the animated Batman: Hush movie during the graveyard scene...). And he took care of his teammate by passing his respirator off to Artemis. When a Red Tornado came after them, Dick used the items available to him (one of Artemis's arrows) as a weapon, and he successfully got him and Artemis out of the water.

"Well get traught or get dead."

Like ayyye Dick knew how to handle high-pressure situations because, as he said in this episode, "I've been doing this since I was nine."

Then we got some more of Dick's skills with him trying to create an EMP, and he also had some kinda plan about pretending to drown, but then he passed out asldkja.

SO. I like that YJ Robin could take the lead, keep a level head, give out orders, make gadgets, use resources available to him, and also hack when he had to.

One thing about YJ Robin that was brought up was the fact that he kept going off on his own because he was used to working with Batman. This was interesting to me because there's something kinda funny about Bruce and Dick being so in sync with each other that they forget other people outside of their bubble can't anticipate their needs.

It was definitely meant to be a character development thing for Dick which clearly came to fruition via him becoming the leader as Nightwing. Because of this, I'm not super bothered by Kaldur being the leader instead of Dick in S1. Now do I normally like Dick as the leader? Yeah. But he was only 13 in YJ so I'm not too upset about someone older like Kaldur taking the lead while Dick observed the best way to lead/work with others.

Tbh, it's been so long since I've watched YJ S1 that I honestly don't remember if there were other things I really liked or found irritating about Dick's characterization in it. So, yeah, that's all I got.

As for The Lego Batman Movie (TLBM) Robin... well. Listen. I fuckin love TLBM! I thought it was hilarious and I've even got it on DVD. The attempt at Bruce/Babs was obviously No Thanks but everything else... ha.

TLBM Robin had Dick's name, some acrobatics, and a bit of his backstory, but other than that, there wasn't a whole lot that made him super distinguishable as Dick Grayson. I think I once saw someone compare him to an exaggerated Burt Ward Robin. I guess that seems most fitting. It's hard to really discuss since both Dick and Bruce were played up a lot for comedic effect.

Even though TLBM Robin wasn't the most Dick Grayson to ever Dick Grayson, I still found Robin in that movie to be super enjoyable. The whole universe was something fun that I didn't even care to compare to the comics.

Scattered YJ thoughts under the cut

spoilers (obviously)

The beginning was a bit slow, but it got better as it went along. (Probably all the cut-out animation and little dialogue dragged things a bit)

I wonder what big event they’re saving the animation budget for if they’re already using said cut-out animation in the 5th episode.

I’m deep in the denial trenches re: Conner’s death so I wasn’t too moved by the scene of him in the grotto. He’s coming back, don’t worry.

I wish they’d maybe tried a bit harder to tie the Mars arc into this arc. Aside from Conner’s death it may as well have not happened. M’gann and M’comm have a similar-ish dyamic to Artemis and Jade so

Also great choice of quote in the ending scene. Was wondering how they were going to tie Tale of Two Cities in.

Although one of the flashbacks showed a 10 year old Artemis reading A Tale which ??? what 10 year old is reading Dickens??

Artemis’ nameless boyfriend should’ve been a girlfriend, but otherwise no criticisms in showing her happier and moving on.

Onyx seems interesting! I don’t think she’s fully evil, but I also don’t think she’s telling the whole truth.

Same with Cassandra.

I love Will and Roy’s banter. And Roy and Cissie’s banter

Also love seeing more of the new team members. Much as I would’ve loved for Dick and Kaldur to talk I’m glad the VA budget went to Steph, Cissie, and Tara instead.

The contrast between Jade and Talia was probably one of my favorite moments. And Damian and Lian were, of course, adorable

hey!! First of all I really like your YJ art, esp that new art of Gar (tearing at my heartstrings a little bc ughhh I want him to be happy ya know). also I love how you draw Dick, idk how exactly but the way you draw him is just so on point. :D

also, this isn’t a *big* deal but usually the “young just us” tag is used mainly for the original 1998 Young Justice comics, to distinguish from the TV show since they have pretty different characters and plot (in the comics, for example, yj was founded by Tim Drake, Bart Allen, and Kon, and characters like Dick, Wally, and Kaldur were never on the team). YJ (the show) takes up a lot of the Young Justice tag, and though I do like the show a lot, comics fans needed another tag for just comics content and “young just us” became a popular one because it’s a quote from a founding member of the team in the comics (Bart). That’s why if you look through the “young just us” tag it’s mostly the comics team, not the show team.

I figured you probably hadn’t realized there was any distinction or why, and I saw how you added that tag, in case you wouldn’t mind avoiding the tag when talking about just the show, if you could.

Hey there!! Oh wow, this is actually the first time I getting one of these. Aww thanks so much!!! I'm so happy to hear that, and like same, ugh I also want Gar to be happy. Oh, and I love Dick! He's like my favorite Robin (Like I love the others just as much too tho but, yeah). I'd always try to draw him the way I pictured him to be and still try to keep it as accurate as possible. So, I'm glad you like the way I draw him!! :D

Also, OMG I'm so sorry, I hadn't realized that! You know, I've always wondered why it's young just us and why there's Young Justice stuff there... And now I know why. It's specifically made for just YJ's comics content for comics fans since, like you said, the show takes up a lot of the Young Justice tag. Anyways, I'm glad you pointed that out because I wouldn't want to take that away from you comics fans. Again, I'm so sorry. I'll avoid the tag when talking about just the show from now on, and I promise to do better! <3

Author Self-Interview

well @rainathorpe put out an open-ended tag so uh. here we go

Fandoms: I’ve published stuff for gossip girl and dc comics (mostly batfamily but I’ve also got a supersons series) and young justice 2010, took brief stops in pjo, rvb, and spn. I’m also working on stuff for btvs and hp (though given… certain things, I have no idea if any of those will ever get published) and I’ve put out some art for rwby

Most popular multi-chapter fic: that’s like a weird, murdery uncle you don’t invite to thanksgiving (batman, batfam&rogues gen) technically, which is a two-shot batfam fic, and also one of two multi chapters I’ve ever published, so… it’s kind of weird to see that given that’s it’s not one I think about much, but then again it’s very much something with wide appeal, so it makes sense

Favorite story you’ve written so far: this question is rude, but also Boy Hostage (supersons, jon&damian, au where damian doesn’t leave the league: jon gets himself kidnapped) which is the kind of “getting to where you can deal with your trauma” fic that I write over and over again, and it’s centered around the growth of a platonic relationship, which always makes me, as an aro, like. Vibe

Fic you were nervous to post: uh. All of them? Posting fics is kind of terrifying in terms of how much I crave validation lol. But in specific, but what good is a quick healing to go (yj, artemis-centric gen set in a soulmate au) because a) it’s the other multi-chapter and it’s actually got a plot, b) it’s a genfic in a soulmate au, and c) it’s one that’s does draw some off of my own experiences and that made posting it pretty uh. Exposing

How do you choose your titles: mostly just track down some songs to listen to that have the right vibe, and wait for a lyric to feel right, but there are a few titled after Shakespeare quotes/mangled versions thereof (see: If music be the food of love, then—shut up, Epsilon!) and a couple that are allusions to motifs or events in the fic (e.g. gorgeous)

Do you outline: not usually, but most of my stuff is pretty short — I do have an outline for the Michaelverse, aka the hp fic of doom, and one for an untitled spn series that I’m still debating about whether to even write, but both of those are rewrites for like. Entire series

Complete: uh. Not sure what I’m being asked, but I will say that I try to complete my fics before posting them — posting something and then abandoning it is a fear of mine

Do you accept prompts: I’d like to, but as contained under the above fear, I wouldn’t want to accept a prompt and then not fill it, and I’ve got the adhd so

Upcoming story you’re most excited to write about: recently started a Henry pov fic set in an au that diverges from canon post-series but pre-epilogue and its a lot of fun

Stories you’re most excited to read: thinking about the future is extremely hard, but I’m always excited to see what @rainathorpe comes out with next, and whenever @strideofpride updates I'm still alive (or, the Pearl Jam trauma series) I get inordinately excited
