Plot: You are a famous singer who was in a pretty toxic relationship and have been single and 'off the grid' for 2 years since your breakup. You come back online dropping a new album that gets people stirred from the tea but the tease at your new relationship.

"Today here on Off Camera with me Sam Jones we have Y/N Y/L/N here to talk about everything, from her new albums and songs, to her hiatus, to her sightings, to her relationships" he smiles looking over at you.

"Thank you for having me, it feels great being back and you know talking and meeting new people and I've always wanted to be on a podcast like this so I'm very excited!" you smile and get comfier into the nice seats you guys are in.

"So i think we've got to ask how are you feeling after your time away from the media?"

"So refreshed it was really healing to take myself away from everything. I think a lot of things were being said about me when I first deactivated everything. A lot of them being outright lies, and you know I didn't want to be aware of what people were saying... naturally" you starts and he nods for you to continue.

"But everyday I'd have my friends coming to me saying... have you seen what Taylor Swift has tweeted about you, have you seen what Beyonce and RiRi said. And I'd be like no and I don't even want to know. But when she showed me the love I was getting from all of these amazing people I've worked and collabed with over the years, movie stars who I've walked red carpets with and been in cameos of their movies, models who I've walked runways with all sticking up for me saying how they couldn't imagine anything said about my relationship to be true" you explain and he nods again.

"Yeah, it was actually really moving seeing all these people coming together for you in support! I think even after what certain people said about you the large majority had your back..." he admits to you.

"Yeah, I mean i have some great friends in the industry that you know would message me and always check up on me, so its nice to know that I have people in my corner, after everything that happened!"

"Yeah of course, and I think your new album really shows your raw emotions and I think a lot of people have easily related. So lets go through the album, we have Vicious, which talks about obviously Y/E/B and the emotional scars he's left on you. One of my personal faves is 'bet u wanna' where you talk about being mistreated in relationship and calling it off only for them to want you back. Nonsense which obviously has made your fans go stir crazy- wondering whose got you feeling this way. Bad for Business which obviously has a similar tune to Nonsense in whoever you are talking about, and may i just say people will listen to the happy songs because they are incredible! But talk us through the creative process and how your time away released all of these on the album and more!"

"I think, when you go through something like i did. Where you don't necessarily see and end you have these raw emotions that just tend to write themselves on the paper. I had many nights where I'd be sat in the studio hair pulled back, a massive slice of Pizza on my left and a bottle of water on the other and it would honestly just write itself. There were some nights where I'd just cry and sit there. I think things really sped up when I met my current partner" you blush, thinking how much that silly vroom vroom man had helped you.

"Who is he, and how did he help, how did you both meet if you can tell us!" he asks leaning back a little.

"Well, I'm currently dating F1 driver Lando Norris which when this podcast airs and sure will be a shock to everyone. We met when I was in a really weird patch. I think it had been about 8 months I want to say of being single and dealing through my grief and not really knowing what to do with myself. My ex of 5 years was now dating and having a child with the girl he cheated on me with, and honestly I was a mess. My dad decided to take me to a race, it was the one in Austin, we had paddock passes and that's where I met him" you grin thinking back to the day.

*Flashback*

You were at the Circuit of the Americas for race weekend, you were tucked behind your dad who had found some mechanics he was animatedly talking too. Your dad always had a real love for cars, and when you'd made it as a musician you brought him and your mother a larger house with a big garage for a car collection you'd help him grow.

"Damn you've got loads man. How's your girl affording all of this?" the mechanic asks not having seen you as you were wearing both sunglasses and a Ferrari cap.

"I have a ... lucrative job" you croak out a little, if you were being honest with yourself this was probably the first interaction you'd had with a stranger in months, even just any human at that as your contact had been very limited over the past 8 months even to friends and family.

"Ahhh, so what's your fav car in the collection Mr Y/L/N?" the mechanic asks, and some nods from his pals also tells you guys that their interested.

"Oo that's hard it's got to be a toss up between my Mclaren 650S, the Ferrari F8 Spider, or my Rolls Royce Ghost" your father admits trying to think to his collection.

"Not the Porsche?" knowing you'd got that for him for his 50th.

"Mmmmm I forgot about the Porsche" he admits with a chuckle. The mechanics just all looked very shocked at the sheer amount of cars your dad has in his collection.

"Give me a second, I want to see if I can get you guys a garage pass upgrade. I bet you'll want to check out the car's yeah?" he asks making your dad nod very quickly.

You pull your glasses off to give them a wipe as the heat was making them fog up a little and the mechanic gasps, you cock your head realizing he's recognized you.

He scurries of, running back to the Aston Martin garage, he tells all of his friends but says to keep it quiet as he could tell you'd been going through it. Aston Martin didn't have any passes left, so he went to the other garages begging to give you a pass.

"Who did you say was here?" Lando had asked from beside his team mate Daniel Ricciardo.

"Y/N Y/L/N but don't make it public knowledge she's clearly just here to watch the race with her car enthusiast dad. Who did you know owns over 10 super cars that Y/N has brought for him, he was telling me all about his Ferrari" the mechanic starts to ramble before Lando gets him to stop.

"Take me to her, and I'll give her the pass" Lando had offered, wanting to meet you, it wasn't uncommon knowledge that he liked both you and Taylor Swift and had even DJed some of your 'nightcore' remixes.

"Okay! Okay come with me" the young mechanic said, darting of making Lando run after him asking him to slow down a little.

"Hello, this is a Mclaren Driver he's ..." the mechanic starts before you offer him a small small.

"I know who he is Dean, thank you for introducing us" you smile, and he grins at you. You and your father get handed the passes and your walking back to Mclaren at Lando's side.

He was attractive and most certainly your type. He had that goofiness about him that had you laughing for what felt like the first time in 3 years. Yet a seriousness and passion for his sport when talking to you and your dad about the car he was more than happy to show off to you.

"So you'll only be cheering for me right?" Lando flirts as your dad introduced himself to Daniel Ricciardo and Zac Brown.

"I think that depends Mr Norris, are you going to give me a cheer worthy race?" you question looking up him. His face lights up and a big grin comes onto his face.

"Always, you'll see the Papaya on a podium today I'm sure of it!" he offers and you smirk.

"You get that podium and I'll take you out afterwards"

"On like a date?" he asks a little cautious with his tone.

"Yes a date" you nod and his face lights up.

"Yeah alright, your on" he smirks, he turns away to get ready for his race, but turns back placing a cheeky kiss on your cheek making it your turn to blush.

True to his word, Lando came second on Sunday. You took him out on your guy's first date and the rest is history.

*Back to the podcast*

"Wow, that really is such a beautiful story. And from how you talk about him we can tell that you are really happy" he smiles genuinely.

"I don't think I've ever felt so secure with a person. I think it's safe to say I've found my person. I went through a lot with Y/E/B and Lando has helped me overcome a lot of the trauma from that relationship, and I cannot thank him enough for how patient, caring and loving he has been for the past year" you smile, before turning your gaze to the side to look at a teary Lando who had come to the podcast with you, you were scared and didn't want to go alone.

"Well I think it's safe to say we are all so happy you are back, thriving making music and doing what you do best!" he smiles.

After that your asked a few more questions which you happily talk through and answer, before it's wrapped up and time to leave.

"How was that baby?" he asks knowing this was your first media thing to help ease you back into that 'lime-light' life.

"It felt good to just vent, and talk about everything" you smiled at him. It was truly healing for your soul.

"I love you so much, and I'm so proud of you for today!" he grins at you, pulling you in for a kiss. He holds you close, while another hand travels up to caress the side of your face.

"I love you most, which is why I need you to help me announce the 2023 tour... and my new album!" you grin, and he grins back.

"What are they called?" he mumbles into your neck that he'd found retirement in.

"The Grid!" you grin, Lando didn't know but you planned your next tour for 2023 around the 2023 races.

"Hmmm and what does that entail" he smirks.

"Well, I'll get to come to every race weekend with you this year, my tour is roughly going to follow the races. I'll venture out as well when you have breaks and stuff but I don't want to be away from you for too long, and I want to get back on the scene. I'm ready!" you admit and he smiles at you softly before lifting you up into a huge bear hug.

"Did i mention how much I love you?" he asks.

"Every day Lan, every day" you smile at him, pulling him in for another bruising kiss.

It was safe to say, that even though you'd been treated like shit in the past, Lando Norris was the love of your life. Your soulmate that held the other end of the invisible string that had kept tugging you both closer together.

Hannibal song of the day : song no. 5

a bit about the song:

"Breezeblocks"(released in 2012) is song by alt-J, written by Thom Sonny Green, Gwilym Sainsbury, Gus Unger-Hamilton & Joe Newman(the whole group), most likely their most popular song. It starts off mellow and quiet guitar, interchanging between build ups and drops with synthesisers and a lot of deep bass, drums and other percussion instruments till the end of the song, which ends with an arrangement of overlapping vocals, like a choir. It fits genres like indie rock, indie pop, art rock and folktronica. The song itself tells a story of two lovers, where one of them wants to leave the relationship, feeling unsafe and unfulfilled but the other is obsessive and deranged and so in love that they don't let the other leave, the desire and love being so strong that they dare to hurt their lover and themselves just to make them stay. There can be another meaning to the song when taking the music video into the account(that the group themselves said is kind of different but managed to fit the vibe), which is filmed in reverse, presenting a narrative where a man kills a woman(maybe an ex or smth) who was most likely keeping his wife hostage. Since the chain of events is presented in reverse, it looks as if the man is the abusive lover trying to kill his wife, although by the end we find out he was actually defending his wife and killed the woman that kidnapped his wife, sending a message to not judge a book by its cover - don't assume and judge until you know the full story. It also references a book "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak, talking about a young boy who misbehaved badly at home and got scolded for it. His hostile and intense emotions sent him to an imaginary jungle with creatures called "The Wild Things". In this world, he feels appreciated and powerful as the wild things make him a king, but as soon as he realises the responsibilities a king has are hard, he wants to leave and go back home, to his loving mother who took care of him and coudl depend on, but the creatures don't want him to leave, threatening cannibalism (woah i wonder why I am writing this), saying "Oh, please don’t go! We’ll eat you whole! We love you so!". The band thought of it as a very powerful image and referenced these words in the song. In the end, the boy does manage to get away, unlike the lover of this song.

yeah sorry for the long intro to the song um. i've loved this song for years I swear I could listen to it forever so.

overall the song creates such a chilling mix between aggression and affection it's just so fucking insane and well. very hannigram. I think that was expected. Tbh i feel like it's prob known to fannibals, i made a post once asking ppl for song recommendations for hannibal and this song has shown up a few times and honestly? it fits them SO. WELL. especially when you think about the whole mizumono episode. The music video reminded me of mizumono a lot... so I'll be basing this on that episode a lot...

Verse 1

"She may contain the urge to run away But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks"

The girl doesn't want to be in the relationship with the man anymore, maybe recognizing that he is not in a good state of mind or she just believes they're not fit for each other anymore, whichever it is, she is contemplating getting out of the relationship, which she feels trapped in, or the man feels like he's scaring her away, hence her "running away"; He doesn't like this, being way too attached for her, he can't just let her run away after the comfort she brought him and the strong emotions he developed towards her, so he decided to weigh her down (literally) by drowning her with breezeblocks. Metaphorically, Breezeblocks are blocks used for building houses and are supposed to represent foundation here, so perhaps he has been making her stay by guilt tripping her about everything that they have built together and the fact that she can't just "leave behind" the trust, support, stability and safety that they have gained from each other - the foundation of their relationship. After she wasn't giving her idea of leaving up, he decided to actually weight her down with their foundation in forms of breezeblocks. In my eyes, the soggy clothes could also have a little bit of meaning, soggy clothes being quite uncomfortable and probably clinging to her(just like he does) - perhaps they're soggy from the times he was guilt tripping her, perhaps tears were shed and her clothes getting soggy just represent the manipulation and fakeness of them, or the severity of the situation and how long it has been going on and how this has affected her (made her feel heavy at heart and uncomfortable)

I think these lyrics summarise THE monologue in Mizumono and hannigram's plans quite perfectly. Will wanting to run away (from hannibal unfortunately...) and as Hannibal realised his plan of betrayal, reacted very aggressively by literally gutting him (sogging his clothes with blood ig) and breaking down the foundation they have built, more or so with words, but also the knife he uses. At this point I have no idea if its a linoleum knife (knife used for building, houses, rugs and FOUNDATIONS OF A BUILDING.) or a kerambit or smth else but I'll stick to the linoleum here(also check out this post about his choice for the knife, it drives me fucking insane) and say that this is how Hannibal tears down the foundation they have built together. Not only does he gut him, he talks to Will about how betrayed he feels that he was planning to leave him, after letting Will see him, after building this foundation of trust and support for each other. Hannibal was there, understanding Will and offering support and stability and he saw that Will could provide it for him back, which he chose to do only to get closer to him to betray him and take away his happiness (Will...) and stable, carefully crafted life he had. Will was something very important to Hannibal, a person that changed him and made him feel love for once, and then he lied about accepting him. He can't handle losing Will so he would make him stay and tear him down, hurt him, if that's what it would take.

"Cetirizine, your fever’s gripped me again Never kisses, all you ever send are fullstops (La la la la)"

Citrizine is a medicine used for fevers, suggesting the man is so obsessed with her that she makes him ill and stressed (overheated and overwhelmed and overthinking, hence the fever) and he needs medicine. She is constantly rejecting him, rejecting his affections and never giving any to him but instead stopping him, although it can also allude to texts, her not ending them with "xx" (kisses) but with full stops, being quite cold and distant with him.

well first, for the show it can allude to how Hannibal literally gave Will a fever and the amount of aspirin Will took cuz of that if we take this literally, but that mean the roles would have to switch so, instead in my eyes I think of how bothered and overwhelmed Will probably made Hannibal feel the more interested and obsessive he got over Will. I can't imagine how many times this man probably thought of him everyday and overthought stuff (jesus seriously hes obsessed) and how ill and diseased (although alive) Hannibal probably felt (maybe diseased and ill after he knew Will's plan...); the affections the girl is rejecting from her lover could represent how distant Will was with Hannibal at first.

"Do you know where the wild things go? They go along to take your honey (La la la la)"

This is a reference from the book "Where the Wild Things Are". The band suggested that the lyrics are about jealousy, the protagonist being jealous of other people who are catching his lovers attention instead of him, maybe this is a conversation between them about this concern, telling his lover that those people are bad and will use her and leave her(take away her honey); Maybe he's trying to convince her that he would never do that - although he technically is, eating away at whatever support and love(the honey) she has to offer for him.

I feel like this presents why Hannibal decided to isolate Will in the first place, taking away everything from him (or at least how he wants Will to see it, as we know that he was just trying to make his plan come true and return some of the things Will cared about so much). He saw everything that Will had interest in (Alana, Abigail, although he kept her for Will, Margot's child etc) as a threat to his plan of having Will all to himself and so he took them away - because he believed that they were both bad for Will but also because they were not in Hannibal's best interest. Also doesn't he like kill Will's wife in season 3 idk yet dont tell me

"Break down, now weep, build up breakfast Now let’s eat, my love, my love, love, love (La la la la)"

This probably references the many fights the couple had and protagonist's method of trying to make it up to her by trying to get back into a loving, normal routine, forgetting the fights, doing things such as letting her sleep it off and making a breakfast, starting the day over - The breakfast being his love for her. This is most likely to say that acts of service for her would be his love language and he would feel loved if she accepted his services, as well as offerings(his love) he makes for her.

for Hannibal:

do i like. have to explain this one

first of all lets be real cooking and making ppl commit accidental cannibalism is his love language (even better when they are aware of it and accept it knowingly so u dont have to make them commit accidental cannibalism to feel like u're normal for enjoying it and ure not a monster and God didn't punish u by making u eat ur own sister and enjoy it and that they accept and understand u for this and are def not doing it as a manipulation tactic to get u closer to them... that's not smth Will would do to Hannibal wdym)

Chorus

"Muscle to muscle and toe to toe The fear has gripped me, but here I go My heart sinks as I jump up Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut And I, ah-ah-ah-ah"

The chorus seems to depict the the physical fight going between the two lovers. The protagonist doesn't seem to be in his right mind as he says that even though the fear tried to stop him, he has lost control and is now hurting his loved one (or himself) - His fear of rejection making him not handle this situation well and taking the last leap of faith to "save" the relationship by physically forcing her into it. The harm can either be to himself or her, maybe threatenening suicide and her gripping his hand to stop him, or him hitting her and her trying to deflect his hand with her own.

For Hannibal, it's literally,,gutting Will. Or any physical fight or holding each other at gun point or any murder attempt they had. In mizumono, Hannibal is visibly heartbroken by Will's decisions, maybe regretting the choices hes about to take. Maybe for once he felt some fear hurting another person, the person being Will, but he pushes through it, knowing it had to be done, to show Will how he made him feel. The physical contact in this chorus could represent the hug that they shared (the most heartbreaking hug in tv history). His feelings seem to contrast with the violence in that scene so much it makes me so fucking depressed

Verse 2

"[...}She bruises, coughs, she splutters pistol shots Hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks"

The words have a violent imagery to them, maybe to show the lover fighting back and still not agreeing to stay, maybe even trying to hurt him, her words feeling like pistol shots to him, or it could represent her drowning, trying to catch a breath. If that's what is happening, then he tries to remind himself of his point and to not help her, because she will run away - it's better to hold her down and make her stay.

Will's most common weapons is a gun or his hands and words, so i guess it fits his image quite well(not to mention the amounts of time he held Hannibal at gun point lol). These clearly never seemed to have affected Hannibal (until the last supper) and he continues through with his plan of taking everything away from Will, showing what he has lost by not staying by Hannibal's side.

"She’s morphine, queen of my vaccine My love, my love, love, love (La la la la)"

The protagonist compares her to morphine, a drug used to help with pain - clearly he is very dependent on her and uses her for emotional stability and support, losing that would make him insecure and breakdown, he can't lose her after the vulnerability he shared with her. This also fits with the expression "Love is a drug", which to him, her love is clearly like a drug, he has become obsessed, needing her love all the time, addicted to her, suggesting the intensity of emotions she makes him feel and just how obsessed he is - that's why he can't let her go.

The contrast between the dark, violent and destructive comparisons he makes of her, ignoring those destructive feelings and calling her his "love" really deepens the juxtaposition between aggression and affection the song potrays and shows just how blind the protagonist is.

I feel like this fits Hannibal's feelings about Will quite well, considering how obsessed he is with him, to the point of destruction and isolating him to have him all to himself (and also the fact that my man was CRYING after putting Will in prison, missing their therapy sessions. LIKE BITCH). He really puts Will high up on a pedestal, suggesting just how important and addictive Will is to him and how dependent he has become on Will after opening up to him, maybe even feeling like Will numbs his pain and loneliness of never being accepted for who he actually was.

Verse 3

"[...]Germolene, disinfect the scene, my love, my love, love, love But please don't go, I love you so, my lovely"

This is the aftermath of the protagonist killing his lover. He realises that he killed her, getting an anticeptic(clearly unprepared for this and panicking, using some at-home antiseptic instead of something proper) to disinfect the scene off of his DNA. The realisation quickly hits him of what he has done, making him spiral into a breakdown as he realises that his actions didn't make her stay, they made her dead forever.

Hannibal clearly doesn't disinfect the scene in mizumono, he doesn't even wear his plastic suit or use the cloth that he always uses to not leave finger prints, there was no point in hiding anything anymore, Will helped FBI see through him, although we do see him "cleansing" himself off of the events by walking in the rain and trying to "comfort" Will, telling him to "wade into the quiet of the stream". I don't think these specific lyric apply to the situation much disinfection-wise, although it can represent Hannibal's state of mind, especially after realising everything he has done and the regret that came with it(does he feel guilty tho? i have no idea but the begging and love confessions in this line def represent his obsession and love for Will which left him very heartbroken after everything that was done)

also could represent Will........ him wanting to turn back, if he could only reverse time, undo the events so Abigail lives and everyone else lives..............ouch

Refrain

the most beautiful part of the song in my opinion tbh. The layers, the build up, the overlapping vocals, it's all just so overwhelming and emotional and vulnerable.

the protagonist spirals, realising what he has done but not wanting it to be true, he's not ready yet to let go of his lover, slowly, he's losing self control and giving into his violent desires, he threatens cannibalism if she goes away(she can't really do anything my dude...) as he frantically confessse to her that he loves her. He just loves her so much and needs her so much, the desire is so strong that he will consume her if it means that she stays right beside him(or inside him), craving that impossible closeness, it's a way to forever remain with a loved one. This whole refrain is just so incredibly contradicting and depressing and desparate its insane

now, it's no secret that Hannibal doesn't want to let Will go and even consume him. He wants him to live but at the same time he wants to taste him, devour him. To love is to consume, but to consume is to devour and transform in reusable energy. He wants him as close as possible and for Will to accept his desires and give himself up, let him be his - but clearly that's not what Will wanted (yet).

...This one is so straightfoward especially considering Hannibal that I don't even know what to say really. The song itself just says it all perfectly.

in conclusion they are fucking insane for this and breezeblocks is the ultimate hannigram (specifically mizumono) song. 11/10

Subconsciously, I assume that all the bands on my Spotify playlists are moderately popular. If they're online, they must have a following, right? But nope--listening to some of these tracks is the equivalent of finding a dusty cassette tape at a flea market.

Miracle Parade has only SIX monthly listeners. I have no idea how I found this song--it must've been in my Discover Weekly playlist. The fuzzy recording gives "I Will Make You Love Me" a haunting quality.

How about 30 monthly listeners? Graeme Downes deserves more for "Hammers and Anvils" alone. I love the stripped-down tune.

Only about 1,000 people listen to Ultimate Fakebook each month. Admittedly, some local bands would kill to have that many. "Brokyn Needle" is a perfect catchy, upbeat alt rock song.

Lapush barely cracks 300 monthly listeners. I heard "Aurora" nearly two decades ago on the local alt rock station. The station abruptly disappeared one day mid-broadcast, and I'm still wondering what happened. Anyway, this song's intro gives me intense nostalgia.

If you want to know how old "Arthur Nix" is, I found this track on a CD compilation of Myspace's top ten songs. Myspace, CD players--yeah, that was another lifetime! Jupiter Sunrise only has about 900 monthly listeners, but they deserve more because "Arthur Nix" makes me tear up a little, and I don't cry easily.

Does anybody remember IMF (International Music Feed)? I used to watch music videos on Fuse and IMF for hours. Test Your Reflex has about 1,700 monthly fans. I recently thought about "Pieces Of The Sun" and its music video on IMF for the first time in years, and I still enjoy it today.

Tender Age has about 280 listeners each month. Admittedly, "Lowers" is a little out there. This track is a combination of indie rock, shoegaze and fuzz, and you either like it or you don't!

I did NOT expect An Angle to have only about 250 monthly listeners. "White Horse" always sounded like an indie rock classic to me. I've had this one on my playlist since 2013.

Damn, only 173 monthly listeners for Roll The Tanks? "Goodnight Jimmy Lee" is one of my favorite alt rock songs. It's loud and exciting and grabs you from the first note.

"Chemical Reaction" is another alt rock song from my preteen years. It's a great song that still holds up and a shame that The Vanished only has 400 monthly listeners. Admittedly, they haven't released a full album since 2006.

uhh to be safe! i shall put this under the cut but some hsr 2.0 spoilers :D (ik we're on 2.1 rn but still! to be safe!!)

i'd like to stress on the SQUEAK panel because the way that the ending of 2.0 had me go insane that i 100% all areas in penacony in hopes to find clues about WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO MY GIRL NOOOOOOOOOO WHAT THE HELL

I refused to accept that she died and wanted to understand WHAT happened which inevitably turned into me searching and finishing all the missions in Penacony and 😭 I still have zero idea what happened. and I mean. technically 2.1 gave us the answer about what happened, but that doesn't explain how people die in this dream when usually if people die, they just wake up back in the Reverie

SO WHAT HAPPENED TO ROBIN??????

I think she's really interesting though, even if we only get to know her through word of mouth - which is. kinda fitting for an idol like her. You only know her image, not the person she is. You could even meet her former teacher who envies Robin stealing her spotlight, and how Singer mentions that Robin and The Family had some argument or conflict between each other. It made me wonder if that's the reason why she left to be a Galaxy known singer rather than staying in Penacony since she only came back because of that.

Hmm... Now that I'm here. There was this thing about Robin being an Emanator for Harmony because she was said to be blessed by Xipe themself for such a talented voice and how Penacony was just Obsessed with Robin to the point that uhhh I forgot her name but the NPC who follows Idrila was just sick of being under Robin's shadow as well.

If Robin had gotten into a fight with The Family, I wonder if her leaving and returning may have been the cause for her voice to be Weird (I don't understand), getting her powers revoked and all that.

All this next to her song "If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking" really fits the "bird in a cage" imagery that her splash art has WHICH MAKES ME ADORE HER ALL THE MORE I LOVE BIRD IN A CAGE IMAGERY SM (SHAKES HER)

The other thing I did while coping was start questioning "why is it that Firefly and Robin had to die in this?" I mean, albeit, both deaths have different modus operandi, where Firefly's body dissipated (which is what I anticipate will happen too with Sunday's) and Robin's didn't. And I reflected a bit more on Firefly's monologue regarding why do people dream/sleep, in which the answer was "because they're afraid to wake up." That whole scene was played out with Robin's song in the background which ALSO is all about how with no other choice, the character of the song has no choice but to dream of freedom that they weren't given -- to not face that reality.

Put both of those together -- that Firefly and Robin both stood for the freedom dreams can give and that both characters wind up dying in 2.0 -- I sorta thought about the dream of Penacony crashing down entirely.

But maybe it's also that having both die is just the counter to this question that hangs over Penacony arc: Why do people sleep? since it repeats itself too in 2.1 :]

So I just. I like Robin through the things I've collected about her but also what she may have stood for in the realm of the Penacony arc in its entirety.

I really hope to pull for her when she does come out though :D I was supposed to save my guarantee after losing on Luocha for her but I pulled Acheron asdklfajh So we'll see if I can get her. Ik I'm excited to read more about her character story. And also know whether or not she's actually dead or is that a fake body that we saw.

Look, I'll show you where she is from so you can see that there is no indiscrimination, she DOES NOT HAVE THE ACCENT THAT THESE PEOPLE AND THEIR SURROUNDINGS SHOULD HAVE, she does not have the MARKED ACCENT.

I'm not saying that it's not good, it certainly is, but it is not suitable for singing this type of songs with that accent and culture, since they have a characteristic accent. Yeah? hii!! i consider myself a independent catb fan since i got into then in 2019 and i obsessed over the songs and lyrics and stuff but never actually got to the fandom? like never knew the fan side of things just the surface level (i was the obsessed and totally into the fandom from another group so i stayed at my comfort zone haha)

with that being said!! im here to ask you kindly if you could tell what happened between them? like what the fans knows with details because i only know the facts about the show being canceled, bob, benji and bondy left and they unfollowed/blocked van but since i was looking around those days i've seen memes and stuff and a few things i missed out and i wanted to understand :(( if its too much to ask like too much work for you its okay!! but i think it would help other people who feel a little lost about everything as well :)

hello lovely, and welcome, we're glad to have you here! might i ask which band you were obsessed with instead? and i can definitely understand, i was actually the same way before i actually got involved in the fandom over the summer. c:

and yeah, I can give a quick rundown! i don’t think there’s an official post detailing what went on since lockdown, so here we have:

A (brief) Summary of CaTB’s Decline

Silence from the band once the pandemic hit. Lack of communication ever since has gotten fans quite frustrated, and remains so today. Since March 2020.

A fan noticed that Bondy, Bob, and Benji resigned on Companies House, which made the fandom wonder if the band had split. March 2021.

Catfish play Reading + Leeds Festival, collectively relieving everyone that they were there. August 2021.

However, Bob announces his departure a month after R+L on Instagram. He’s been working on his own music ever since. September 2021.

Bondy’s friend releases the Hide and Speak podcast, with him as a guest. More speculation on him leaving the band as he’d exclusively used past tense when speaking about his time in Catfish, along with a few statements he made towards the end that people interpreted as slating Van. December 2021.

Unfollowing commences. The fandom freaks out upon seeing Van’s following count go down, thinking he’s been active on IG. Chaos. Turns out, it was simply Catfish’s ex-tour manager Steve removing him as a follower. Later on, Bondy seems to unfollow Van and Larry, with rumours that he’s even gone as far as blocking both of them. Odd since Van hadn’t been on IG since 2017. Start of 2022.

^ As of today, Van follows Benji and Larry. Benji follows Van and Larry. Bondy only follows Bob. Bob only follows Bondy. Larry follows nobody.

Bondy got drunk on Tom Ungerer’s (bassist for Sam Fender) IG live, where he says he’s not fond of Van. When asked if Catfish were splitting up, he laughed, looked away, and said “I have no fucking idea, it’s got nothing to do with me.” Bondy also stated he’s working on new music, “trying to make music fun again, last time I was in Catfish and the Bottlemen, I was never allowed to make my own music.” With this live, Bondy had essentially confirmed he and Van have fallen out, and his creative freedom was limited when he was in the band. February 2022.

Larry logs onto social media for the first time in literal ages to unfollow everyone, and remove all his content. February 2022.

Catfish were supposed to open for Stereophonics in Cardiff in mid-June, but they pulled out two weeks prior due to unforeseen circumstances. June 2022.

More silence. Then, Bondy made his statement, confirming he officially left the band back in March 2021 and hasn’t had any affiliation with the band since, due to “reoccurring intolerable behaviour” within the band. This means he had stepped in as a session musician in the last 4 summer shows that Catfish had played. He also described relationships in the band as dysfunctional. Fans have taken this to be at the cause of Van, though there isn’t much clarification on whether this is true or not. Bob then came back on IG and blocked Van and Benji. June 2022.

Dave Sardy (producer for The Ride) posts photos in the studio, teasing possible new music from Van/Catfish by putting the Catfish hashtag in captions on IG. The fandom collectively exploded, again, and so we do every time he makes a post with Catfish in the caption. And every time he likes a comment asking for new music from Van. Since June 2022.

Now, to the present. Van’s disappeared off the face of the earth, the last time we saw him was 400+ days ago when Catfish played Neighbourhood Weekender 2021. Benji recently got engaged. We have snippets of Bondy and Bob (now Rob) working on new music.

TROUBLE IN PARADISE? BRAD SIMPSON AND LONG TIME GIRLFRIEND Y/N L/N SPLIT?

On Friday, Y/n L/n and Boyfriend lead singer of The vamps, Brad Simpson were seen having a tough conversation in Brad's car, although unsure what about, it could be the fact that the two have split following the fact that on sunday night Y/n L/n appeared to go private on Instagram after removing all loved up pictures with Brad simpson.

It is unclear what sparks this break up as they seemed to be doing perfectly fine last week.

A source close to the couple said "Y/n and Brad have been through a lot more than the public think they have, only time will tell if they are to continue"

further commenting, the source continued to say, "Brad's focusing on making more music with his band and Y/n is focusing on her own line of work"

Another source also commented: "Brad and Y/n went through the ringer in the public eye, we all knew it was coming it was just a matter of when. Y/n and Brad liked to keep everything private so it was no surprise when everything came tumbling down."

The sun have reached out for comments from Brad and Y/n neither have replied.

Brad and Y/n got together shortly after the Brit awards of 2013 or though it is unclear whether they met here or not with Y/n being a manager for other musicians.

The real reason Brad and I broke up was because of his fans, I was constantly receiving death threats, being rumoured to have cheated on him and I was constantly being called every bad name under the sun at the show. It was putting too much of a strain on our relationship that I had to end it for the sake of my mental health, we had officially split 3 months before the sun article came out they had photographed that way before putting it out, but we asked to hold off so that it wouldn't deflect the attention from day and night release. It would have created tons of bad press for both him and I.

The ringing of my phone interrupts me from my thoughts of Brad and I look down at who's ringing me it's annie,

"Hey babe, whats up?" I ask cause Annie never rings me unless its something she needs immediately from me, knowing that I was the worst at replying to peoples messages so If she needed something from me urgently she would ring me.

"just wondering if you were coming to the earlish halloween party, I am aware it's a monday so you've got work to go to tommorow, I understand that and wont be completely upset that you chose to not be there" "of course I will Annie, I need a bit of cheering up specially since the article came out today" "oh shit yeah, the article. You know what maybe it's best that you don't come to the party." "why? whats going on?" "Errr nothing oh gosh would you look at the time I've got to go." "ANNIE!" I say raising my voice a bit. "you know how I grew up, my parents never told me anything straight up, had to find out how not to get UTI's and avoid pregnancy the hard way didn't I? surely you haven't forgotten?"

I hadn't forgotten, I remember that year, that was the great year of sex in 13 , we had both lost our virginities on nights out, I had lost mine with Brad after the brit awards after being invited by my university placement job and she had lost her with a guy I never met because he was a one night stand and she had a pregnancy scare, but nothing came of it other than me teaching her about protection.

"no I haven't forgotten." "right now go mingle and get a drink, you need to perk up missy. Oh and try to get a guy yeah? I don't need you sulking over Brad anymore" I sigh and then say "I'll try my best, but I'm not promising anything" "good, now go on" she says as she moves me in the direction then pats my bum while I'm walking away.

As I'm walking into the kitchen I spot the Aperol and prosecco and make a beeline for it because I needed something to get me drunk fast, and if anything an aperol spritz was it. As I'm making my Aperol spritz I see the front door go and Brad walks in, shit, that's why Annie didn't want me to come, he looks so good as well, I bet he's got a girlfriend. I have got to talk to him.

I make my way to where he's sitting in the lounge in a meaningless conversation with Tristan and Connor. "Y/N!!" Tristan and Connor both spoke at the same time and I sit between the two of them within the space that they created for me. "How have you been, How's work? Going good? How's your bands?"

I haven't once made eye contact with Brad while I've been sat with them. We end up on the rooftop and I underestimated how cold the october air was, which causes me to shiver and wrap my hands around myself in an attempt to warm me back up and Brad offers his jacket to me which I kindly accept.

"So, How've you been? Truthfully this time Y/n, I know when you're lying" he speaks up after a few moments after silence. "Quite shit without you if I'm honest, where have you been staying?" "I stayed at Tristan's for a few nights and then got an Air BnB which I've been living in for a couple months now, just haven't managed to find a place yet." "I see, I see. "Shit, I miss you, I wrote a song about you. Recorded it today, want to hear it?" "I'm not so sure Brad." "fine but can I at least show you the lyrics, I've got them in my notes." "yes go on then"

And I read through them, and they are some of the most heart wrenching lyrics I think Brads ever written, when I pass him back his phone he speaks again

"Y/n I want you back, I don't want to live like this anymore, regardless of what my fans think I know you're an amazing person you can keep your Instagram private, Please just come back to me I've missed you"

"I've missed you too Brad, so so much." Is all I say before I'm pulling him in to kiss me and just like that we're back together realising that we're better off with each other than apart.

in no particular order except for roughly release date/order in which i got obsessed with each album, i present you: the albums i've had on loop for most of 2023

i like to listen to albums from start to finish, i think for the same reason that i tend to rewatch the same movies when i can't sleep (the sense of familiarity) but i'm picking a favourite from each because all of them had that one (1) song i got obsessed with and/or made it into one of my very specific playlists... some even more than one, if i'm honest lol

what can i say about my favourite gg except that i love them so much? their title tracks are always a 10/10 for me but so are most of the sides, and for my world we got some amazing track videos (my favourite was of course i'm unhappy). plus there's the added layer of collecting pcs and the friends i cry about pieces of cardboard with, and while i admit i went a bit overboard during my world and that may be one of the reasons i got overwhelmed and eventually bored so now i'm stepping back from collecting, i still had lots of fun and this was my soundtrack for most of it.

so this one is not new... but for some reason in the first half of the year, i think? i got back into the gazette; i've been listening to nil now and then throughout the years but now i also listen to their whole discography regularly. it's like being 16 again but with back pain lol happy to announce nil is still my favourite album of all time, and that i somehow remember all the lyrics! for this one i'm picking cassis because it has been one of my favourite songs since it came out and then cemented its place forever in my heart when i saw them play it live, which is something i'll never forget.

ICONIC MOVE, MY MOTION. i adore fact check, 127 never miss with their title tracks and i always go through at least a few days where i need to play them on loop because they won't leave my mind otherwise... but this time, if i could only pick one song from the album, it'd have to be angel eyes. i don't know if it's the happy 90s boyband energy or what but it's so special to me, makes me happy every time i listen to it <3

we all know when and where this came from, don't we? one thing i'll always be grateful to only friends for (other than sandray both as characters and as a ship) is the music; i discovered so many wonderful songs and artists by listening to the playlists, and of course my favourite was micro, particularly this album which i started to listen to because both อย่าดีกว่า and อยากจะบอกใครสักคน are in it, and while they're still my favourites i really like the rest of the album too.

i think i discovered mitski back in 2018 when be the cowboy came out, but for some reason i never listened to her music a lot? i had a pearl in my playlists, but it wasn't until laurel hell came out in 2022 that i started to listen to more... and then this year we got this amazing album and she's now one of my most listened artists of all time. my favourite is my love all mine because, like for most of twitter, that was (one of) my sandray song(s).

this album came out right when i was itching for new music and to make more playlists because i was bored of always listening to the same songs. it was kind of a break? not because it's super different from other things i listen to, i don't think, but idk it was exactly what i needed right when i needed it. there's something about can't go back, baby that has always made it stand out to me, but don't ask me what.

mother! taeyeon has been in my life continuously for the longest time; her voice is such a comfort, it doesn't matter if i stop listening to kpop for years (which i've done a couple times in my life because i am that dramatic) i don't think i could ever quit her. honestly the whole album is perfect, no notes, and we even got a live clip for all for nothing. best way to end the year!

Music Monday #227: EXO - Cream Soda release: July 2023 genre: Kpop

I had something else entirely planned for today, especially since I usually like to let new videos sit for a day or three (and several viewings by me) before I even think of doing a feature. Plus I am already so far behind (this is the third of the three MVs EXO has released in relation to EXIST and my new music playlist on YT is still well north of 200 entries), but ... it's EXO. So buckle in and let's go.

One of the things you notice pretty fast is the way Cream Soda continues the tradition of EXO title tracks being Hard Mode for karaoke with all that falsetto. Those high notes are mad high - there's not too many outside of EXO who could hit all those notes that cleanly while dancing any choreo, let alone that active a choreo - so I suspect this isn't going to be going onto very many boy group's list of covers they want to do. Maybe on aspirational lists, but yeah. Dance covers will no doubt abound because they always do (not for nothing EXO is called Korea's national boy group), but vocal covers not so much.

As for the lyrics themselves ... oh boy. It's funny, I was listening to a podcast ep from the start of the year where it came up that a lot of pop music is love songs, whether that's happy in love or melancholy for lost over or something else, in part because of this perception that we all know what love is. Whatever our specific thoughts about it, we have thoughts about love and can relate to some extent, making those songs more broadly accessible than, say, a song about working on a fishing boat. Many (most? nearly all?) of EXO's biggest hits fall into this very broad category, so no surprise this one does, too. The lyrics are written in a way to provide plausible deniability for how sexual, but you can only sell that so far when you're talking about cream like this song does.

Given the two pre-release MVs included Kai, I'm curious what happened that this one doesn't, outside of his name on a place card. I suppose even with knowing when he was going to be enlisting, there was only so much they could cram into his schedule, between EXO and his solo music and then his fashion label commitments. And so we start the long two years of Kai's service and not seeing him while he works in the civil service.

But that aside, the video is quite the collection of call backs to earlier MVs - Lotto is probably the most obvious, but I'm also seeing callbacks to Monster, Ko Ko Bop, and Obsession. There might be more, but doing a rewatch of all of EXO's previous MVs to check would take too long, so for now we'll leave it at that and note that this could have interesting implications for EXO's lore ... if weren't stuck at a crossroads of wondering what is even going on with the SMCU lore-verse. For various reasons, I'd already paused trying to speculate on SCMU lore because it wasn't clear it was even still a thing and to be honest, this far along, I was almost half hoping we might be getting a reboot on EXO's lore, which has been a steaming mess since 2015 (I love the guys and the lore they've had has its compelling parts, but as a writer, I'm fully aware that it's a mess that could take a couple novels worth of storytelling to fill out and put straight again). Coupled with the two pre-release MVs, best guess is that EXO is still working with the same lore and like with Don't Fight the Feeling, there's some sense that Cream Soda is also pre-Obsession, but other than that? I've got some thoughts, some theories, but nothing really that settled. Compared to some other groups with ongoing lore, EXO leaves a lot more open to interpretation, for better and for worse. I'm going to need a few more viewings before I feel any degree of confidence in trying to kitbash things together into a coherent whole.

All in all, Cream Soda manages to both surprise and be completely what one might expect from EXO, a balance not every group can manage. This one's definitely going into the playlists going forward. And maybe even one of its very own?

EXIST is out now for sale at all the usual suspects, both digital and physical, and for streaming on all major services. I look forward to EXO adding music show performances (and wins) and can't wait to see who all they net for dance challenge exchanges. SHINee seems the low-hanging fruit, but other than that there are many, many, many possibilities and the dancer in me wants to see them all. XD

it's about time i write at least some semblance of a review for gadzooks volume 2 rather than continuing to throw out vaguely incomprehensible text posts about it so. here goes

SO it feels weird to say that ANYTHING is better than volume 1 bcus I have such a deep deep love for that album it almost feels like a betrayal. but objectively 2 IS better it takes everything from 1 and builds on it. every single thing caleb releases manages to be better than the last even when the last one has had you for months like "this is the best album in the world". like it absolutely has the same vibes as 1 and feels like how a volume 2 of something should feel yknow but it also feels like. tighter & slightly more cohesive without losing that experimental wandering feeling that 1 had. & I feel like 1 was such a departure from the mother stone and then 2 kind of brings some elements from tms back around like it had those moments that feel dark and sweeping in the way that only tms does.

yknow how people do those web weaving posts collecting artwork or quotes I am mentally doing that w music all the time & it's like this album takes the best of both the previous albums like. touchdown yolk is in between a venn diagram of you're so wonderful and this won't come back. obviously not like its just a mix of them both but like i fewl elements of each in it & like. those are mt absolute big favorites on both albums so of course thay ends up my favorite on this ine. near the end of the album it's like you get the vibes from little planet pig but also for a short time. love how opening with croc killers 2 followed by little lion kind of mirrors the never wet + yesterday will come combo as opening up volume 1. & I've always felt like one of the strongest & most interesting things in his songwriting is the way a song will like go in and out of different parts then bring another part back & loop around and you'll almost forget how the beginning started but then the same elements come back around & thinking about that interview where he says it comes from writing songs mentally while on set so he's not recording or writing them down really just keeping them in his brain for months where they grow and warp & blend and how obstacles and challenges are where creativity really shines through. & I feel like the shanty shine achieves this more strongly than anything since you're so wonderful. (WAIT california also does this extremely well to a smaller extent) but THEN just a few songs later slink on fido does it just as well.

i also love the way vocals are used so many songs out there feel like it's just about the vocals & the music is just there to support it but with a lot of Caleb's stuff it feels more like the voice is just another instrument that weaves in and out, sometimes it gets more focus but sometimes not there will be times where it feels more like strings or drums are the star of the show and I love love love that. makes all of his songs feel so thought out and cohesive and more like the vocals are PART of a song & other things aren't sacrificed for the sake of vocals. so much stuff I'll listen to an instrumental version & be like wait you can't even hear that sound, you never even notice that in the version with vocals, wtf, & wish there was more balance between the two. I feel like his stuff does that balancing act extremely well.

& ik I had previously said idk if croc killers 1 is as strong of a closer as this won't come back but at that time I hadn't realized that the entire last 8 mins of the album was all that song so I'm going to amend that statement. when comparing just the VERY end like final minute of each song's ending twcb will always win out over anything that final minute is like The Finale To End All Finales. to me. I've already talked to death about that so I won't go on but otherwise. yeah croc killers 1 is just as strong an ending if im being objective & putting aside twcb being so special to me personally. OH & I didn't even touch on the more abstract synesthesia stuff like I meant to but yeah it goes back to 2 feeling a bit tighter & more cohesive just looking at what colors tend to pop up like 1 goes through such a journey from skies and grass & light colors to reds & pinks & blacks then to a mix of both & back & forth while 2 feels much more consistently jewel toned. crimsons at the start & orange and green & mostly darker throughout the later songs. while I feel like it absolutely sounds much more like 1 with some of the elements of tms brought back in my minds eye it's colors are much closer to tms than vol 1 which is inch resting. anyway. I didn't even get into lyrics bcus I still feel like I haven't spent enough time with the album in isolation to dive into looking them all up & figuring them out for sure yet.

HVOB "TOO"

Austrian duo HVOB (Her Voice Over Boys)'s 5th album is another melding pounding techno, with lush vocals, elements of trance and house, chilled soundscapey moments and more downtempo fare. Mesmerising.

24.

Leftfield "This Is What We Do"

Second Leftfield album as a Neil Barnes solo project, and 4th overall, this album is unsurprisingly closer in sound to its 2015 predecessor 'Alternative Light Source' than either of the albums made as a duo with Paul Daley, and while they may not be as legendary and classic as 'Leftism' or (as some may argue) 'Rhythm & Stealth' they are still very good records. As ever a genre melting pot, with elements of dub, techno, breakbeat, punk, chillout etc.

Röyksopp "Profound Mysteries"

The first part of the Norwegian duo's 2022 album trilogy contains the typical combination of danceable floorfillers and beautiful chilled moments. Quality stuff. Honestly if they'd done a best of the 3 parts as one album, it could be the best they'd done.

Synthsonic "Iconiq"

Hard trance producer Carl Nicholson wanted to create a multi-genre (within dance music) band type project. So along with fellow producer Dave Parkinson, pianist Paul Skelton, and vocalists Renny Carroll & Niki Mak, he has done just that. A dance music journey, they claim 8 genres appear over the 12 tracks, with trance, house, breaks and drum & bass among them. A nice nostalgic reminder of the more inventive dance albums of the past.

Billy Daniel Bunter & Sanxion "1993"

The second collaborative album from these two, this time concentrating on recreating the style of breakbeat hardcore from 1993. Job done, nailed it. Big breaks, pianos, vocal hooks all present. Love it.

Lupa J "A New Kind Of Magic"

I've liked Lupa J's brand of glacial electro-pop since 2016's My Right Name EP, but this, her 3rd full length, is her best work yet. As she's brought the breakbeats. Adding old school breaks to her modern glitchy style works a charm, and this is a mesmerising, hypnotic listen.

Working Mens Club "Fear Fear"

They may be from Yorkshire, but I hear a lot of influence from 70s & 80s Manchester here. From Joy Division to the dance beats of the Haçienda via some synth-pop, this album is full of upbeat (in a rhythmical sense) melancholy and a bleak view of the world, but not afraid to use a catchy hook.

William Orbit "The Painter"

Chilled beauty, elements of dub, gorgeous guest vocals, all wrapped up in music that is distinctly Orbit.

PVA "Blush"

Mixing pounding dance music, with live percussion, spoken vocals and post-punk vibe, makes this band rather unique and their debut album one to treasure.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs "Cool It Down"

Though at only 8 tracks and 32 minutes, it only just qualifies as an album - controversial statement incoming - this is probably YYY's best album yet. Bathed in electronics, to set mood and produce energy, with some huge instrumentation, synths and beats, with some big hooks, there are multiple tracks here that are up there with the band's classics like "Date With The Night" or "Zero" but really don't sound like them.

Holy Wars "Eat It Up, Spit It Out"

Debut album from this LA duo, and it packs a punch. Flitting genres from rock and punk with some hip hop influences and a large pinch of electronics, these songs pack attitude and hooks aplenty. Singer Kat Leon is a bona fide rock star, just not enough people have heard of her yet. Give it time.

Annie Hamilton "The Future Is Here But It Feels Kinda Like The Past"

Sydney folk and indie pop band Little May's debut album was dreamy, atmospheric, warm and beautiful. Their follow up wasn't. I wondered what happened, and now I feel it may well have been because Annie Hamilton left the band between albums. For this, her debut solo album is dreamy, atmospheric, warm and beautiful. As Rough Trade put it "Dream pop can sometimes feel detached and low-stakes, but not in the hands of Annie Hamilton. The Sydney solo artist applies an urgent kick of immediacy to shoegaze-style layering, stacking heady textures so impactfully that everything she sings about begins to feel like sensory immersion." And that is the thing, there's not an abundance of big choruses or catchy hooks here, but it draws you in and surrounds you and just feels lovely.

Celsius "1992"

A tribute to the breakbeat hardcore, and the music of the raves in 1992, and a very good one. It sounds just like it was made in 1992. If you like that sort of stuff you will find much to enjoy here. Top one, nice one, get sorted.

Mojave Phone Booth "Hollow The Numbers"

Former Snake River Conspiracy members Tobey Torres-Doran and Mitchell Doran, with drummer Lynn Farmer of Meat Beat Manifesto, release their 2nd album as Mojave Phone Booth, and what a genre hopping journey it is. Across the course of the album there are elements of industrial, trip-hop, punk and even a 10 minute breakbeat-esque club stomper with "Analog Religion". Excellent stuff.

Ben Gold "Rest Of Our Lives"

Stunning euphoric trance on this debut album from Ben Gold, featuring two of the biggest vocal tunes on the scene this year with the title track and the magnificent "Same Sky Same Stars" featuring Plumb.

10.

Feeder "Torpedo"

The quality of Feeder albums have been up and down over their career. The last couple (2016's "All Bright Electric" & 2019's "Tallulah") represented somewhat of a return to form and were very good records. "Torpedo", however, is pretty much a Feeder classic. Mixing elements from their first 4 albums (and mini album "Swim"), from chunky riffs to soaring choruses and beautiful slower songs, this album is their first since "Comfort In Sound" to give me that feeling which made Feeder one of my favourite bands back in the late 90s and early 00s.

Grum "Unreality"

Fusing an 80s influenced, almost synthwave sound, with deep house, trance & techno, Grum's latest is an intriguing and addictive beast, helped in no small part to some stunning vocal contributions from the likes of Natalie Shay and Sarah Appel amongst others.

Conjure One "Innovation Zero"

Rhys Fulber, the mastermind behind Conjure One (and also one half of Delerium), unleashes his 4th album under this alias. It is a dark, yet beautiful, exquisitely produced album of downtempo electronic music. Staggering melodies in the vocal led songs, mesmerising soundscapes in the instrumentals, this contains 3 of my favourite songs of the year, in "Animals", "Hide" & "Wheels Come Off".

Craig Connelly "Believe In Magic"

My absolute favourite of the new trance producers to emerge in the last decade or so, Craig Connelly unleashes his 3rd artist album of uplifting trance, mixing vocal anthems and instrumental stormers.

Placebo "Never Let Me Go"

In my opinion, Placebo haven't made a bad album, and this, their first in 9 years, is fortunately no exception. Typical fuzzy guitars, drums both real and programmed, a soaking of synths and electronics, Placebo often look to do something different with each album, and they do, but only slightly. So it's always undeniably Placebo, but it just keeps it a bit fresh. They themselves here sound somewhat renewed and recharged and ready for action.

Vukovi "NULA"

A concept album then, for Vukovi's 3rd opus, but none of your moustache twiddling, pretentious, triple album nonsense that can so often come from the concept album. Nope, this is a Vukovi album good and proper and the songs within will stir up many a mosh pit. It's heavy, it's bouncy, it's melodic. It simply rocks. One of the most reliably brilliant bands in the world right now.

Blood Red Shoes "Ghosts On Tape"

This was a little unexpected. Every Blood Red Shoes album has been enjoyable. Every one has made my top 50 of its release year (I believe), but none have broken the top ten. This, then, is their masterwork (at least so far). Combining elements of the older rocky era, with the later more electronic output, "Ghosts On Tape" is a spectacular melting pot of sound, with some brilliantly good tunes.

Brigade "Dissonance"

Wow, where did this come from? I saw Brigade live in support slots a couple of times in the mid to late 00s, liked them, bought their first 2 albums (and completely missed that they had an album out in 2011). You know, they were good, but didn’t blow me away. But when I heard this was out I thought it deserved a listen. My, how they have grown. “Dissonance” is fantastic! Yes there are elements of the band they were, but it’s gone super widescreen. Taking the epicness of post-rock, a dash of prog (in the way of having many ideas in one song, rather than the meandering length), with some brilliant vocal hooks and melodies. It’s huge, spine tingling, and manages some to get some huge riffs in there in places too. Superb.

The Glitch Mob "Ctrl Alt Reality"

I wasn't that aware of The Glitch Mob until a month or so ago. I think I'd heard the name, and checking out their previous albums of heavily American festival main stage EDM slanted bass music, if I had heard any previously, I'd've thought 'nah, not for me'. But I saw someone praising this album online, so I checked it out, and it blew my mind. Out goes their modern EDM style production and in comes the old school. More specifically, the amen breakbeat. And lots of it. This is a lazer sharp, immaculately produced, love letter to early 90s rave culture, specifically hardcore and jungle music, and the beautiful power of the breakbeat. And while it is stuffed to the gills with old school style samples and sounds, it doesn't sound like it was made then. It's not a carbon copy. It sounds like it was made today, but it ticks all the boxes for someone who was in love with that music in the 90s.

Pure Reason Revolution "Above Cirrus"

Pure Reason Revolution released 3 astonishing albums (2 of which were Offbeat albums of the year) of modern prog, mixed with almost metal riffs, Beach Boys-esque 3 way vocal harmonies, and massive amounts of electronics before they called it a day in 2011. Core duo Jon Courtney and Chloë Alper reformed the band in 2019, and in 2020 unleashed 4th album “Eupnea”. While “Eupnea” was a very good album, and it was great to have them back, something wasn’t quite the same as it was. That magic spark wasn’t quite all there. But wow is it back with “Above Cirrus”. Right from opener “Our Prism” the huge vocal harmonies are there to tingle your spine, to announce PRR are back on form, and prepare you for the ride. Stunning stuff.

okay so i was gonna write this down, i probably will but I'm also gonna post it cuz why not

14/10/22

i just finished watching Gilmore Girls and OHMYGOD THEY'RE ALL SUCH WONDERFUL ACTORS I CRIED SM

and since I'll be in the same position as Rory in a few months, yeah okay it's college but it's still a big step. I'm just really excited after my meltdown last week and I feel better

I have the motivation to study, i will study fosho and even school is like really great

its not that "omg i can't wait" but "lesgo man thoda aur time bacha hai" and it's chill and I'm really glad I'm part of the council

I'm also really really happy I'm a better person, elevated from shit and that I'm on good terms w everyone

things are so freaking great

i went in his bus and sat w him and we held hands and laughed and talked and smiled and blushed and ohmygod i love him so much and this was after a really long time so it hit different plus i hadn't seen him all day which made it all the more better oh oh oh and he's a bio student and has a lot of studies but he still came to school today for me despite of planning a mass bunk w his frens

he also gave me a dark blue plastic ring and it was a dream come true.

i performed today and everyone appreciated it

first of all one of my favourite ray toro dad facts is that i don't actually know for sure how many kids he even has, king of privacy <3

that said. here are two of the sexiest paragraphs i've ever read, courtesy of this wonderful bryant interview about remember the laughter:

Its lyrics chart the course of Ray’s life since the split of My Chemical Romance. It’s been a reflective period for him. He and his wife had their first child, a son, and Ray found his focus shifting from himself to his family. His wife went back to college to earn a masters degree, leaving Ray by day as the stay-at-home parent. And in that time, he had a good think about his former life. The record, as a result, is much like the memory box of his light concept. The songwriting process starts for Ray in an unusual place. “My wife laughs at me about this but I love doing the dishes, sweeping and vacuuming. I like it because I find my mind wanders and my brain comes up with these vocal melodies while I’m doing it. Anything that sticks, I’ll record on my phone, then I’ll head into the studio and work until three or four in the morning on it.”

so from the same interview, he talks about how remember the laughter is fully about his family, and shaped by being a dad (he also talked a lot at the time about how much he appreciates his own parents but i digress):

It means the album is shot through with references to Ray’s family. “Walking In Circles is about my wife and my desire to spend the rest of my life with her,” he says. “Remember The Laughter is me thinking about how I might say goodbye to my son later in life, thinking about what I would tell him before I pass. “My wife and I talk a lot about what the world is like now, about what sort of kid we want to raise and how we want to see him treat other people. All of that is on the record.”

and he's talked about this kind of thing a few times, like in 2015 when he released for the lost and brave (which he originally wrote in response to reading about homophobic bills being proposed in arizona) in memory of leelah alcorn (this interview is worth a read):

“If ever my son was having a rough time I would just hope that he would trust me and allow me to be there for him. It’s common for parents and older people to look at youth in a negative way and to not respect the young as people. My wife always says that a lot of parents treat their kids like property – the whole, ‘this is my house, these are my rules and you must abide by my law’. You have to put yourself on the same level as your kid, you have to relate to them as a person. I hope that there’s more understanding about the differences between people in the future that my son grows up in.”

and this is something that ended up influencing a lot of remember the laughter too (from this interview):

The sense of hope is one of the main themes of the record. I want to leave my son with a sense of hope about the world. He has the ability to affect people in a positive way and affect the world in positive change. I feel a lot of the songs are definitely connected to that idea of hope.

Both your wife and son play on the record, your son being just 2 years old when it was recorded. How did that come about? Yeah! [laughs] So I have a small guesthouse on my property and that’s basically my studio…well, I call it my studio, but it’s basically a two-story with really small rooms, but I just happen to jam all my gear in there and have my drums upstairs. It’s not like a full studio. I’m always next door working a lot and I don’t know, around that age my son just got a real interest in coming over to the studio and checking out what I was doing. He constantly heard music coming from there and he just wanted to see what was going on. He would come in and he’d play around with some of the amps and the other gear I have in the studio, and I would let him play with the lights as well. One day I was recording the song Lucky Ones, and I knew he had a kids set of percussion. That song is 100% about my family, so I wanted to find a way to involve them. I had my son in the studio with his percussion set, so I just had him hold a shaker and a tambourine and had him play along with the song as best he could. I edited it all together and I think you’ll hear him playing in the chorus. My family was so integral in the process, in giving me the support I needed, and also giving me something to write about. My songs are very much about me and my life, I have a very tough time conjuring lyrics up out of nowhere. I always feel that everything has to be very in the moment and related to me, those are really the only things I can write about. My family were super important for the record, and I’m glad they could be on it.

like he's just made it pretty clear over and over again that everything he's done post-split has been informed and motivated by fatherhood :'), like here:

Lithium: How has being a father affected the style of music you choose to create? Ray: It gave me a voice. A center to gravitate each of my ideas and thoughts around.

he's also spoken a couple of times about how grateful he is that he was able to be at home and off the road to raise his kids, and how the timing of his first son's birth helped him process the hurt of mcr breaking up, like in this interview from 2014.

As children, we often imagine what our futures will look like, since the age of 9 you could only see yourself with one person, Chris. He was the only person who still played with you after your mothers divorced and you were forced to live with your birth mom. He never made fun of the fact that you even had 2 moms, to begin with. He never judged. So as the sun rises and you get out of bed you can't help but wonder what might've happened if you stayed in Winter haven, what would've happened between you and Chris, maybe it would have been how you thought when you were younger, but as of right now you are certain that you have to get out of bed because its 7:35 and if you're late for work again Mrs. Hummings would kill you.

SHHIIIIIIIITTTEEEE!!!! I'm not going to make the 7:40 train, maybe ill take a cab

As you rush out of bed into the shower brushing your teeth and also washing you realize you didn't even have work, it was the holidays; However you did have to get ready to go back to Winter Haven, your mom has been bugging you since you got your job as a unit nurse. You breathe in and out as you begin to calm down from whatever sort of adrenaline rush that came over your body.

As you get out of the shower and wrap a towel around you, you realize your phone was ringing in your room. You walk over and check. "Mom", your mom is calling you so you make sure to answer and make yourself seem less tired as possible. You didn't want her worrying about you, last time she heard that you were tired she drove all the way to your apartment to check if you were sick and made you call in sick to work so she could talk care of you. It's the holidays, you can't have that happening or your little brother Elijah would bust your chops for sure.

" Hey mom!, What's up?" You say in the most energetic voice you could smother up within you.

"Oh, nothing dear I was just making sure that you were awake and ready for Lizzie to come and get you, she left about 2hrs ago, so she should be there in the next 3hrs maybe. Make sure you have everything you need for these next 3 weeks, okay?" She lets a deep exhale out. Lizzie was the woman your mom remarried when you were 13, her son Elijah was only 6 when they remarried so he practically grew up with you and only ever knew him as his older sister not just some stranger that is now his step-sibling, like how you thought of him. But you grew to love each other and that's all that really mattered.

Why did she sound a bit out of breath? Maybe she is out gardening?

"Yeah, mom sure. But why is Lizzie coming? I could've just taken the train" Lizzie and you were never close, so you did everything you could to avoid certain situations like this. It's not that you didn't like Lizzie or her; you, it's just the timing of their marriage seemed off since your other mom Samantha was also getting married to a guy named Jeff (it's always the Jeffs) and you wanted to support her finding love again, Lizzie didn't want you to go at all, you still went nonetheless but since then you've always just stayed a neutral stance on the relationship like acquaintances.

"Well, I think since it's the holidays and all you and Liz could take it as a chance to start forming a relationship" Your mom of course knew about the relationship between the both of you.

12 years too late ma

"Oh, well then... I have nothing else to say I should get going though I'm not done packing" Not done packing? You haven't even started, there are piles of clothes on your floor in your small apartment, looking at the time it seems like Lizzie will be here at 10:50, giving you more than enough time to get dressed get packed, and maybe do a little bit of tidying.

- T I M E S K I P -

You finished all your packing, cleaning, and getting ready, even washed 3 out of the 5 piles of clothes on your floor. You hear a knock at the door and check the time "10:45".

Huh? Just on time but also a little early

You open the door and surprise there is Lizzie in her yoga leggings, knitted winter sweater, beanie, and scarf with her white hairs slipping off from underneath the hat. You observed her as you gesture the permission of her entry into your home, looking at what she is wearing and how she is carrying herself.

Oh those shoes look so nice I wonder where she got them

"So? Ready to go kiddo?" She says as she turns around to look at you while standing just 10 steps away from you in your house.

"Yeah let me grab my coat and stuff and we can head out" You grab your suitcase and bags with your phone and laptop bag carrying over your shoulder, without even asking Lizzie comes over and takes the suitcase out of your grip and brings it to the car before you could even say anything.

"Thanks..." You never knew what was really ever going on in her mind, maybe she wanted to look cool but honestly who cared, there was no one even around. You shrug it off before you could get all bothered by it.

As you get into the car after loading all your stuff you look up to your window, you'll miss your silent repetitive lifestyle for these next 3 weeks. As you drive out into the countryside you look at the fields covered in snow, the farmers who are out collecting their berries it all brings you back to a memory you had, your eyes are getting heavy you knew you had at least 4 more hours before you got into Winter Haven, so you began to close your eyes slowly and relax in the seat.

- F L A S H B A C K -

"RUN Y/N RUN!" Chris shouted as he was more than 20 feet behind you. Picking up your pace and carrying the heavy bag of sweet berries you collected from Mr. Jezzbell's farm, You and Chris were always taking berries from the local farms and feeding them to the foxes at the sanctuary. Have the locals ever caught you? No. Will they ever catch you? Probably, seeing how Chris is beginning to get tired and Mr. Jezzbell was right behind him.

"CHRIS BEHIND YOU CMON KEEP UP!!!!" You were so close to the safety line, the big large fence that separated Jezzbells farm from yours, you look behind you again and Chris is full sprinting towards you, Jezzbell was too old to be running at the speed he was running and began to fade into the distance. You both quickly climbed over the fence, Chris giving you a leg up and when you reached the top you grabbed the bag out of his reach and offered a hand to help him get over the fence too.

"HAHAHA DID YOU SEE HIS FACE?" You burst out laughing as you walk to the forest line from your house.

"yeah...heh yeah I did" Chris was tired but after every little farm heist you guys pull he is always laughing with you, maybe he has grown tired of stealing from the farms just for the kicks.

"Hey" You stop him in his tracks and stand in front of him.

"If you don't wanna do this anymore we don't have to, it'll save me the earache and you the-" He stops you before you get another word out.

"Yes. We should stop, I don't know how many more I can handle" He looks down drooping to his feet.

"Okay then. Well, it was a pleasure being your heist partner, partner" You wink at him with your hand out to shake his. Chris smiles and giggles to himself.

"May the winds guide us back together, partner." You both burst out laughing as you continue to walk to the tree line. When you get there the bowl that you left out for the foxes is empty, nothing out the usual. You dump all the berries you collected into the bowl and see the eyes of a fox peer out from behind a tree. Chris tugs your sleeve and whispers.

"Let's go the sun is gonna go down any minute now" You turn to him and nod your head in agreement, walking back to your place you can make you Chris's dads voice, he too can hear it and you can see the fear in his eyes, you hold his hand.

"I'm here. Every step of the way." You reassure him and jog back into your house. As you enter the house Chris's dad, Pratt gets up off the couch when he sees you both enter, he smiles at you, and then he looks at Chris.

"You're just in time, let's go home kid" Chris looks up in confusion, he then looks to you and smiles waving goodbye and skipping to his dad trying to catch up. You were just happy he didn't get in trouble. Again.

You slowly regain consciousness as you notice someone shaking you awake.

"Y/n? Y/n? cmon dude wake up" You open your eyes and notice a skinny nerd standing in front of the doorway shaking you.

"Ugh jeez Eli Im awake" You let out a yawn and stretch before getting out of the car only to notice all your stuff isn't there, Lizzie most likely took it to your room, which your glad she did, that nap had you too tired and weak to even carry anything except your phone. Looking up at the old house you can just feel everything come back, the house wasn't all too homey to you but to an outsider looking in, it looked like it was meant to feel and was built to be homey. You make your way into the house and greet your mom when you see her standing in the kitchen conversing with Lizzie.

Why does mom look so serious?

Lizzie and mom seemed to be talking about something serious, they notice you and completely change their facial expressions and demeanor.

"HIIIII!!!! AWWW look at my little girl all grown up and-..? Are those dark circles?" Your mom pulls your face in to closely examine you but you pull away quick enough for her to just shrug it off as well.

"Hello to you as well mom" You giggle, although you didn't hate being hope you didn't like it either, too much has happened in this home for you to feel really comfortable here. After doing a quick catch-up with your mom you head to your old room and begin to unpack and you walk down the hallway towards your door, you peer into Elijah's room after seeing the half-cracked open door.

"BOO" You scare Eli causing him to get frustrated with you.

"YOU HAVENT EVEN BEEN HOME A WHOLE HOUR JEEZ" you giggle remembering all the time you used to scare him when he was younger.

Feels nice being home, especially with you Eli

You walk into your room and see that Lizzie has done you the favor of laying your clothes out for you and already setting up your laptop to the internet and even put in a Wi-Fi booster

How long was I out for?

As you walk around the old white wooden dressers lightly grazing your fingers on the surfaces you make out a voice from downstairs, your mom seems excited too meaning it has to be Mr. Jezzbell, but the voice was too deep yet soft for it to be him, you curiosity peeks and you go down the stair quickly, as you go down the staircase you see a male frame, back faced towards you, their shoulders were nice and broad, they were dressed in farmer-friendly attire, usual overalls and plaid shirt tucked in. As you lower the stairs and get in the reach of your mom's eyesight she looks at you and back at the man.

"Well, you could ask her that yourself Chris" your eyes widen, and your jaw drops when you see him turn to face you.
