Was anyone going to tell me about your oh no he's hot neighbor boy reylo fic, or did I just have to find that out for myself? Ah I just found it and I have been binge reading it like crazy! It's so good you had me screaming at those cupcakes. And you give us little bonus scenes you post on here?? Bless you. I was so glad to come on here and see you are still active! Hope you are doing well and just know I will be waiting patiently by to see what happens next for our disaster neighbors 😝
Tumblr media
OMG!!! Thank you so much anon! I cannot tell you what an honor it is whenever people tell me that they are binging my work! Wow, this really made my day, thank you. Ah yes, ktbo my firstborn. Those fucking cupcakes ruined my life too haha 🧁💕 You know, when I started writing that at the beginning of COVID, which I cannot believe was almost THREE YEARS AGO, I really thought it was going to be an only child. Oh, what was that? *clown nose honk in the distance* 🤡🤡🤡 OOHHHH MAN was I wrong! I literally have given up on telling myself that I am not going to start another WIP and have just allowed myself to follow the inspiration where it wants to take me. I very much in an truly insane fever dream have written 120k words of a new WIP in the last month wtf is my life. Who knew I would end up having so many more WIP children because I certainly didn't! 😭 But don't you worry, I am actually really excited to finish up posting this fic because I have some real fun things cooking up behind the scenes HEHEHHEH *rubs hands together maniacally*
But seriously, thank you so much for the support! And that goes for literally all my readers! This past year hasn't exactly been stellar for me (the last couple, really), so having these fandoms and these communities really have made a difference in the quality of my mental health, including the wonderful, amazing friendships I've made from them too (you know who you areeee). We're all WIPs ourselves, aren't we? Writing has really become such an incredible form of a coping mechanism for me, so it's absolutely amazing for y'alls out there to get something out of it too! Even if I do put our space idiots through some...turmoil...oof. Haha we love them don't worry they will always get that angst with a happy ending!
Anyway...I will stop rambling now!

That Xiran Jay Zhao video about the amount of time it takes to get paid by the publisher, a couple of time she says "that's just the way it is." Are there actual, legitimate business reasons for holding off paying someone 6 or 8 or more months what they've earned for their book? Or is it the publisher basically going "We'll pay you when we pay you. What are you gonna do about it?" because they're essentially the one in charge?
And is it the same for all authors? Or is there an unofficial "tier" system based on your name? Are they telling people like Stephen King or James Patterson or Neil Gaiman "you'll see your money in 8 months" or are they more likely to be getting monthly checks just because of who they are?
There are some legitimate business reasons, yes.
Okay, so let's look at the way a book is sold to a publisher. I'm going to use very round numbers, because I don't want to do a lot of math right now. So say I sell a book for $15,000 under the traditional three installment contract--signing, delivery/acceptance, and publication. What this means is I sign the contract, I get a $5,000 check! Yay! I will also get checks when the book is turned in and accepted, emphasis because it means I can't just give them a word jumble and claim I turned the book in, and then again when the book comes out. We're ignoring side situations like "book is never turned in" and "book is never published."
But wait! My agent gets 15% off the top of each of those checks, which isn't a whole lot at $5,000--$750--but means I'm receiving effectively a $4,250 check, and then waiting maybe a year for the next one.
In the US, 1/3rd of that check goes automatically to taxes, and I cannot math that very well, but it's about $1,416. So I'm left with $2,834 as my payment for the year. This is why most authors will have day jobs.
This structure makes sense. They pay you to call dibs on your book: they pay you when the dibs pan out: they pay you when they can start making money. Now, recently, some publishers have started going to a four stage advance payment, and I can't see any real justification for that. Maybe someone will give me one. I'd be fascinated to know what it is.
So here's the thing: until the book is out, there is no more money. You've been paid for the book, but it's not making money for the publisher yet, and so of course you're not getting more money. It used to be the expectation that your advance would pay your bills while you wrote the next book; that is clearly no longer the case. I live in Seattle. A single check from a three-stage advance isn't paying my mortgage for a month. But.
Once the book is out, it can start making money, and that's when things get complicated. Say a bookstore places an order for 10 copies of AWESOME NEW BESTSELLER. Yay! That should be ten sales, and ten units of whatever your royalty is, right? Only these are physical items, and bookstores can return them, so your publisher marks it down as "ten sales, five reserve against returns," meaning you're only getting credit for five sales until the return window (usually a year) runs out. Where it gets a little hinky is when the bookstore sells all ten and orders ten more, and the publisher still has it marked as "five (now ten) reserve against returns." Basically, you're only getting credit for half your sales until that reserve window closes.
Sadly, thanks to certain retailer policies, this has been grandfathered into applying to electronic sales as well.
TL,DR: The delay in royalty payments is to give bookstores time to sell the books, and mean that your publisher doesn't pay you for a hundred sales, only to ask for the money from fifty to be given back when books are returned. This could happen faster in the modern world, but that would involve publishers paying us faster, and they like to keep the money in their hands as long as possible.
To the best of my knowledge, no one is A Big Enough Author that they can demand their money now, right now. And this is why trad publishing continues to self-select for the wealthy and the young.

Tumblr media
Please note that I am not a professional translator and I'm only doing this to share the side materials to those who cannot access them, if you notice any mistakes please let me know nicely. Enjoy!
Rokuya Nagi: HIII, everyone! Have you tried "GREEN BUBBLE" yet?
Yotsuba Tamaki: It's us! We are "GREEN BUBBLE"!
Isumi Haruka: It is! right!
Kujo Tenn: That’s right.
Kujo Tenn: "GREEN BUBBLE" is the new product from "Jyuurokugumi" as well as our unit name.
Rokuya Nagi: Yes! "GREEN BUBBLE"!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Pop! Pop! Pop!
Kujo Tenn: What are you doing.
Yotsuba Tamaki: It's the bubble popping dance!
Rokuya Nagi: OH! Pop! Pop!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Ready, everyone~!
Isumi Haruka: Huh!? Pop...
Kujo Tenn: Excuse me. Can we proceed properly?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Oh, yes...
Kujo Tenn: It's a wonderful new product as well as an introduction to our unit, so I'd like to do it properly.
Isumi Haruka: See, we got scolded! I was gonna do it properly too!
Rokuya Nagi: OH! We're not fooling around! It's a wonderful performance! Let's do it together!
Rokuya Nagi: 3, 2, 1...
GREEN BUBBLE: Pop! Pop! Pop!
Isumi Haruka: Wow... Kujo Tenn joined in too...
Yotsuba Tamaki: Don’t you know? Tenn-Tenn’s the kind of character who'd join in stuff like this more than you think he would.
Kujo Tenn: Wait, Yotsuba-san, don't lean your arm on my shoulder.
Yotsuba Tamaki: What about my chin?
Kujo Tenn: Your face is close, too close.
Isumi Haruka: Huh!? Aren't you guys too close!? Is this how it is between you two!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: That's right.
Isumi Haruka: Awesome...
Kujo Tenn: What do you mean awesome?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Isumin, won’t it be cool if you and Nagicchi got close too?
Isumi Haruka: ...! T-that's true, but I heard he might look friendly, but actually be quite closed off.
Rokuya Nagi: OH... Who on earth told you that? That’s a huge misunderstanding.
Isumi Haruka: Um... an acquaintance of mine...
Rokuya Nagi: Well that acquaintance of yours met me in the worst possible way and doesn’t wanna listen to what I want to say.
Rokuya Nagi: The door to my heart in front of you, Isumi-shi, is wide open. Please, come on in.
Isumi Haruka: Alright, well... I'm intruding.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Isumin is inside Nagi's heart right now.
Isumi Haruka: Maybe, yeah...?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Ha. What's it like?
Isumi Haruka: What's it like!? What’s it like uh, um...!? How am I even supposed to answer that!?
Isumi Haruka: It's……uh….. it... it smells nice...?
Yotsuba Tamaki: ...huh...
Rokuya Nagi: ...OH...
Isumi Haruka:.... Stop acting like I bombed a joke!!
Kujo Tenn: Moving on, it's the "8th anniversary! Four Thanks Project!”
Isumi Haruka: Wait, hold on...!
Kujo Tenn: As part of the limited-time unit formation celebration, the "Ask This and That!?" edition.
Kujo Tenn: Let’s get the "GREEN BUBBLE" version started.
Kujo Tenn: Everyone, please support us! Don't let the other units sway you.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Because we're the best, right!?
Rokuya Nagi: Yes! It's really, totally lonely to be separated from the other IDOLiSH7 members, but...
Yotsuba Tamaki: I'm here!
Rokuya Nagi: Tamaki! I love you!
Kujo Tenn: Don't get too cozy. I'm a member now too.
Yotsuba Tamaki: I love you!
Rokuya Nagi: I LOVE YOU!
Kujo Tenn: What about you, Isumi-san?
Isumi Haruka: ...I don't really understand that but!
Isumi Haruka: I hope you love me! Love us! Love this unit, and love "GREEN BUBBLE"!
Kujo Tenn & Yotsuba Tamaki & Rokuya Nagi: Yay!!
Isumi Haruka: W-was that okay? Is it alright?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Don’t worry, it was alright! So cool!
Rokuya Nagi: It was cool!
Kujo Tenn: Well then, let’s read what the staff have to say...
Isumi Haruka: He-... wait! You bastard didn’t tell me your impression yet.
Kujo Tenn: Bastard?
Isumi Haruka: Ah. sorry... your impression, Kujo-san...
Kujo Tenn: It was cool. Your straightforward message opened the door to my heart too.
Rokuya Nagi: OH...! You used the door to your heart! Excellent utilization!
Isumi Haruka: Kujo Tenn said I was cool...
Kujo Tenn: Are you embarrassed?
Isumi Haruka: No. It feels great...
Kujo Tenn: Ah, I see.
Isumi Haruka: I made Kujo Tenn say I was cool...
Kujo Tenn: You’d be cute if you blushed because of me too.
Yotsuba Tamaki: It’s true. Nagicchi you smell nice.
Rokuya Nagi: Tamaki smells nice too! Hm... Is this vanilla?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Bingo! I licked some vanilla extract.
Isumi Haruka: Why!?
Kujo Tenn: You're not supposed to lick it, you know!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Mikki was trying to make something, and it was on the table.
Yotsuba Tamaki: He drops some on the palm of his hand like this, but it's not that sweet. I fall for it every time.
Isumi Haruka: That's true! His hands smell like vanilla!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Sou-chan finds out every time I do this.
Kujo Tenn: Do you get scolded?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Used to.
Rokuya Nagi: And now?
Yotsuba Tamaki: He says it’s kinda soothing.
Kujo Tenn: You've grown stronger, Osaka-san...
Isumi Haruka: But this might be good when you're hungry.
Yotsuba Tamaki: You turn it into a trend amongst ZOOL.
Isumi Haruka: Got it. I’ll make it a trend within the group first, then make it go viral.
Yotsuba Tamaki: You better credit me when it goes viral.
Kujo Tenn: Smart move.
Rokuya Nagi: Please make my fragrance a trend after that.
Isumi Haruka: Impossible, it sounds too expensive!
Rokuya Nagi: No, no. It's reasonably priced.
Kujo Tenn: I don't think it's all that out of reach. It's a collaboration perfume with Kokona-chan.
Yotsuba Tamaki: How do you know that, Tenntenn!?
Kujo Tenn: Just a little bit of knowledge.
Rokuya Nagi: Welcome to my world.
Isumi Haruka: Somehow we seem to be getting along mysteriously well?! aren't we!
Kujo Tenn: That's a fitting response. Actually, we received a question from the staff.
Kujo Tenn: "Do you guys get along well?"
Isumi Haruka: Perfect timing!
Yotsuba Tamaki: We do!
Rokuya Nagi: We're friends!
Kujo Tenn: We're get along well. Let's continue with the "Ask This and That!?" shuffle talk.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Yes! Then, let's ask other questions!
Kujo Tenn: Yes.
Rokuya Nagi: Yay!
Isumi Haruka: Yeah.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Oh! I’m your MC, Yotsuba Tamaki!
Isumi Haruka: What are you laughing at. Can you even do it properly?
Yotsuba Tamaki: I can! Everyone! Cheer me on!
Rokuya Nagi: Tamaki, fight!
Kujo Tenn: Do your best!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Alright! So who's up first? Isumin?
Isumi Haruka: Huh!? You’re the one who chooses!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: I'm the MC so I'm the king, right!?
Isumi Haruka: That’s not how it works!?
Kujo Tenn: A dangerous person is taking the initiative.
Yotsuba Tamaki: You don’t get it! Maybe that person’s nervous! What should I do, Nagi!?
Rokuya Nagi: Relax, it's okay. Just face that camera and give us some fan service.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Huh!? Fan service!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Yay!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Wink!
Rokuya Nagi: Wow! So cool!
Yotsuba Tamaki: I calmed down for some reason...
Isumi Haruka: Doing fan service calms you down.
Kujo Tenn: As expected of an idol. That was splendid.
Rokuya Nagi: Isumi-shi, did a question come to your mind right now?
Isumi Haruka: Um, n... not yet!?
Rokuya Nagi: Well then, may I ask a question?
Kujo Tenn: Oh, clever.
Isumi Haruka: You’re so kind!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Nagicchi, you're so mature!!
Rokuya Nagi: Fufufu. Yes. Mitsuki gave me a secret mission yesterday.
Yotsuba Tamaki: What's that!? Did Mikki say something to you?
Rokuya Nagi: Yes.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Try saying it Mikki-style!
Rokuya Nagi: OK.
Rokuya Nagi: Listen, Nagi.
Kujo Tenn: Are unreasonable requests the norm in Ainana?
Isumi Haruka: Scary...
Rokuya Nagi: You guys are the only shuffle units that consists of only teenagers.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Oh, he’s right!
Isumi Haruka: Seriously! Kujo-san, did you notice?!
Kujo Tenn: I sure did.
Rokuya Nagi: You’re the oldest in that group of teenagers, so you gotta be the best brother.
Rokuya Nagi: You gotta protect everyone and be a good leader!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Leader! Nagicchi, you're the leader!? So that's why you supported me!
Rokuya Nagi: Yes! As long as everyone is okay with it, I'll be the leader of this unit!
Yotsuba Tamaki: That's totally fine right?!
Isumi Haruka: Yeah! Izumi's brother is so kind too!
Kujo Tenn: Yes, that's right. We’ll be in your care, Rokuya-san.
Rokuya Nagi: Thanks!
Rokuya Nagi: So if I'm the leader, then I'm practically a king...
Isumi Haruka: Hm!? I heard that line somewhere before!?
Kujo Tenn: You're also a dangerous person.
Yotsuba Tamaki: I know this one! You usurped me!!
Rokuya Nagi: Alright! Let's do it! Please answer this upcoming question!
Rokuya Nagi: Which idol, other than the members of your own group, would respond to your rabbit chat right away?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Other than our own group... You mean other than the members of this unit, right? Not IDOLiSH7?
Isumi Haruka: So, other than… the members of ŹOOḼ!?
Kujo Tenn: You mean someone from another idol group than TRIGGER?
Rokuya Nagi: Yes.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Sounds interesting! I wonder who would respond immediately!?
Isumi Haruka: Huh? You mean we’re gonna text someone right here and now!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Yes yes! Other than members of our own groups!
Isumi Haruka: Huhhh...?
Kujo Tenn: ...
Yotsuba Tamaki: What’s up with you two, why so serious? I’m sure there's at least one guy who’d respond, right?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Especially Tenntenn, he's a guaranteed winner, right!? Anyone would be happy to get a rabbichat from you!
Kujo Tenn: Too risky. It's dangerous precisely because they'd be happy. ...But well, understood.
Isumi Haruka: Understood means you figured it out? Huh!? Who?
Kujo Tenn: It's a secret. Have you decided?
Isumi Haruka: Have I...
Isumi Haruka: There's only one person, do you think they’d respond..?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Huh? Why are you asking me? Oh...! Ah…
Isumi Haruka: Yotsuba, did you want to text them?
Yotsuba Tamaki: No, they're from my group. It's fine, I'll give it to Isumin.
Isumi Haruka: Okay, then I'll take this one.
Yotsuba Tamaki: "Take this one", that’s hilarious. They’re probably gonna reply now.
Isumi Haruka: Awesome!
Rokuya Nagi: Oh... It's a private conversation...
Kujo Tenn: I think I know who Isumi-san is referring to.
Yotsuba Tamaki: What should I do... Oh, Tenntenn.
Kujo Tenn: What?
Yotsuba Tamaki: ...Is the big guy working right now?
Kujo Tenn: .........The big guy is working right now.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Oh, too bad!
Isumi Haruka: I get why you’re talking like that but... who could it be...?
Rokuya Nagi: The big guy might be available. He mentioned that the shoot was interrupted due to rain earlier.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Huh? How do you know?
Rokuya Nagi: He just sent me a photo a moment ago. It's a late-blooming cherry blossom.
Isumi Haruka: Cherry blossoms...
Kujo Tenn: Ah... Thank you very much for your help that day.
Rokuya Nagi: Likewise. I was able to witness your wonderful stage.
Rokuya Nagi: It’s a memory I will cherish forever. Thank you very much.
Kujo Tenn: It's an honor. I'm genuinely happy from the bottom of my heart.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Isumin, you probably don't know. Nagi helped a lot with the "Zero" musical.
Rokuya Nagi: I didn't do anything. We just talked about memories.
Rokuya Nagi: The big guy turned those memories into a magnificent performance and created an unprecedented piece of art.
Kujo Tenn: I’m glad to hear that... I’m sure Ryuu will be delighted to hear that too.
Yotsuba Tamaki: You just said his name.
Kujo Tenn: Ah, sorry.
Yotsuba Tamaki: It was so obvious. Well then, should I try sending a rabbichat to the big guy since we might get an answer?
Isumi Haruka: Doesn't that ruin the surprise? You should go for someone else.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Nah, the person Isumin’s targeting ain’t really a surprise anymore, right?
Kujo Tenn: I don’t think you’d be able to guess who I’m choosing.
Yotsuba Tamaki: It’s definitely the first person.
Isumi Haruka: Who did you choose? Isn't it that person?
Rokuya Nagi: If it's that person, I think they'll respond right away.
Kujo Tenn: I think they’re quite different from who you all are imagining.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Huh!? Who!?
Rokuya Nagi: OH! The person I’m imagining is definitely waiting for a chat from Kujo-shi!
Kujo Tenn: Sorry, but there are plenty of people waiting for a rabbichat from me.
Yotsuba Tamaki: There it is! The little devil!
Kujo Tenn: Can I send it now?
Rokuya Nagi: Please go ahead.
Isumi Haruka: Who is it!?
Kujo Tenn: I wonder if they’ll respond... Oh, they've already seen it.
Kujo Tenn: They responded quickly! Oh, they also sent a photo.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Who? Who is it?
Kujo Tenn: Momo-san.
Rokuya Nagi & Isumi Haruka: Oh!
Kujo Tenn: "Good luck with the recording!" he said. He sent a selfie with Yuki-san.
Rokuya Nagi: OH! It's a tulip field!
Isumi Haruka: What are they doing? They're holding a big picnic basket and a shovel.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Are they on location or something?
Kujo Tenn: He says it’s their day off today.
Isumi Haruka: What the hell are Re:vale doing...
Yotsuba Tamaki: He sent more messages! Read them all.
Kujo Tenn: Do we really need to?
Yotsuba Tamaki: You better read them! Momorin sent them to you!
Kujo Tenn: …
Kujo Tenn: "Tenn-chan really wuvs me lots mwah mwah, I’m with darling right now but I will give you my wuv too!"
Rokuya Nagi: In other words, the direct translation is "You seem to like me, but since I'm with my most beloved right now, I'll share some of my love with you."
Kujo Tenn: Am I being rejected?
Yotsuba Tamaki: That's hilarious!
Kujo Tenn: But thank you for your reply, Re:vale-san.
Yotsuba Tamaki: It's a shame Re:vale’s not in this unit. I’m happy we could mingle!
Isumi Haruka: Aren’t you being too casual with your seniors!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: It’s fine!
Kujo Tenn: Who's going next?
Isumi Haruka: Oh! I'll go.
Isumi Haruka: Please… Please respond...
Isumi Haruka: …
Kujo Tenn & Yotsuba Tamaki & Rokuya Nagi: ..........
Isumi Haruka: Huh, there’s still no read receipt...
Yotsuba Tamaki: Damn it! Nagicchi, isn't our number one person free right now?
Rokuya Nagi: Our number one person is at school today.
Yotsuba Tamaki: But isn't it lunchtime?
Isumi Haruka: Maybe they're busy…?
Kujo Tenn: What should we do? Wait for a response?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Hmm... Is there no one else, Isumin?
Isumi Haruka: Huh!? They're not here! Can I not text ŹOOḼ!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Nope.
Isumi Haruka: I don't have any other friends Besides ŹOOḼ...
Kujo Tenn: If I were in a different unit I would have responded right away.
Isumi Haruka: Huh!? That's... Stop teasing me, you little devil! Don't say things that'll get my hopes up!!
Kujo Tenn: But it's true?
Isumi Haruka: Huuhh!? You're embarrassing me…! Wait, don't take a picture.
Kujo Tenn: Hehe...
Yotsuba Tamaki: Good for you, Isumin.
Rokuya Nagi: That’s a page of youth.
Isumi Haruka: What should I do, though...do we wait for Izumi’s reply? Ah. I said his name.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Then you can use my partner!
Isumi Haruka: Th-the one that starts with "O"!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Yup. The three of us talked in a group chat before. They'll respond right away now.
Isumi Haruka: Wait, hold on. I'm nervous... What should I say...
Rokuya Nagi: Why don’t you send a sticker?
Isumi Haruka: A sticker!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Remember the dinosaur one? The one where the dinosaur breaks the door. That one's good.
Isumi Haruka: Why!? That’s so rude outta nowhere!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Maybe they'll feel a connection.
Rokuya Nagi: The gaogao dinosaur is so cute! I like T-kun too.
Isumi Haruka: Oh... Thanks. I kinda... like T-kun too.
Rokuya Nagi: Yay! He’s one of us.
Isumi Haruka: This person looks flashy, but they're nice... Alright, I'll send this sticker.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Go for it!
Kujo Tenn: Will it show as read?
Isumi Haruka: It did!
Yotsuba Tamaki: What did they say? what did Sou-chan say?
Isumi Haruka: Um…
Isumi Haruka:  "Thank you for your help. What a cheerful dinosaur. If this was sent by mistake, no need to reply."
Kujo Tenn: He’s so serious.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Ahahaha! Sou-chan, that's hilarious.
Isumi Haruka: It sure is...
Yotsuba Tamaki: So?
Isumi Haruka: S-So what?
Yotsuba Tamaki: What did you think?
Isumi Haruka: He kinda…He  used a lot of polite language and seemed very kind...
Yotsuba Tamaki: Ah, yeah, that's true. I'll tell him that you called him kind.
Kujo Tenn: No, this is being recorded.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Oh, right. Everything’s being filmed! Man, now I'm kinda embarrassed!
Rokuya Nagi: There's nothing to be embarrassed about. Just give that camera some fan service.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Yay! No need to reply!
Kujo Tenn: Should you really be saying that line with that smug look on your face?
Isumi Haruka: Haa... Anyways, I’m clear for now. Hm? This isn’t a mission, is it?
Rokuya Nagi: Yes! It’s nothing more than simple question.
Kujo Tenn: Last but not least, Yotsuba. Who are you sending the rabbichat to?
Yotsuba Tamaki: The big guy from TRIGGER. Everyone, gather around a bit.
Rokuya Nagi: Are you sending a photo?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Yup. Look at the screen.
Kujo Tenn: A rare group photo.
Isumi Haruka: Oh... I kinda want this photo too...
Yotsuba Tamaki: I’ll send it to you. Alrighty, let's do this on the count of three...
Rokuya Nagi: Yay! Click.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Nice! One more time. Click.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Thanks. I'll send it now!
Isumi Haruka: Let me see. How is it?
Kujo Tenn: It's a nice photo, isn't it?
Isumi Haruka: Amazing! Great photo! It really feels like we're friends!
Rokuya Nagi: I'm happy! Another precious photo to add to the collection!
Kujo Tenn: I wonder if Ryuu saw it?
Yotsuba Tamaki: He saw it and... Oh, he already replied!
Yotsuba Tamaki: "Thanks for the photo. Your shoot seems to be going well. I'm having lunch right now."
Yotsuba Tamaki: ...And he sent a photo of his lunch!
Rokuya Nagi: OH... Why didn't he just send a selfie?
Isumi Haruka: Looks delicious! I like this pink furikake-like sweet thing! (1)
Kujo Tenn: It's sakuradafu, isn't it? (2)
Isumi Haruka: Cherry blossoms?
Kujo Tenn: No, it's supposed to be fish paste.
Isumi Haruka: Fish!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: I’m glad we got a reply! I'll thank Ryuu-aniki for the photo!
Kujo Tenn: Okay.
Isumi Haruka: Are we finally done with the first question?
Rokuya Nagi: Sorry. I made it a difficult question.
Isumi Haruka: It's okay, it was fun! So, can I ask the next question? I think it'll be quick!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Sure.
Kujo Tenn: Go ahead.
Isumi Haruka: Um, so, how do you guys feel about your managers?
Kujo Tenn: Our manager? I've known them for a long time, they're someone I can trust.
Isumi Haruka: Like a family member?
Kujo Tenn: It’s a bit different than that. I consider them one of the most important members of TRIGGER who’s not visible to the public.
Kujo Tenn: It’s most likely the same for Gaku and Ryuu?
Isumi Haruka: Ha...that’s great.
Isumi Haruka: What about you guys, Yotsuba?
Yotsuba Tamaki: We get along really well. They're super nice, super funny, and super cool.
Isumi Haruka: I get it, MEZZO”’s manager is so cool.
Rokuya Nagi: IDOLiSH7’s manager is also very kind and very sincere. They always listen to me.
Isumi Haruka: They always listen to you huh, do you talk to them about stuff other than work?
Rokuya Nagi: Sometimes we ask them for advice, but we also chat like friends.
Isumi Haruka: I see...
Yotsuba Tamaki: Why this question?
Isumi Haruka: It's just... You know, ŹOOḼ has a manager.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Duh.
Isumi Haruka: And, in this project, the four members of ŹOOḼ were shuffled into four different units, right?
Isumi Haruka: And each of us went to record songs and shoot music videos for those units.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Yepyep.
Isumi Haruka: So... I wish I didn’t, but I ended up asking which song they liked the most?
Rokuya Nagi: What was the response?
Isumi Haruka: "Good Good Games."
Kujo Tenn&Yotsuba Tamaki&Rokuya Nagi: Oh...
Isumi Haruka: “Oh” right!? It's like, you know! The manager’s face changed to worry as soon as he replied...!
Yotsuba Tamaki: That's not cool...
Isumi Haruka: Right!? It feels like they're not mine anymore, you know!?
Rokuya Nagi: I sense some jealousy here.
Isumi Haruka: Touma was happy then suddenly felt a bit uneasy. Minami, Torao and I just acted like nothing happened.
Isumi Haruka: Well, it's my fault for asking!
Kujo Tenn: Personal preferences are personal preferences, so it's okay. It's different from who they value the most.
Kujo Tenn: I understand why you'd feel complicated.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Does it happen with TRIGGER?
Kujo Tenn: We've been together for a long time, so we understand our manager's preferences.
Kujo Tenn: But we still feel a drive to compete with each other, as if we want to be chosen by them.
Isumi Haruka: Why are you not shaken up? I get upset and depressed easily…
Yotsuba Tamaki: No, I get why you feel that way. I’d be depressed if my manager told me Sou-chan was better.
Rokuya Nagi: I also want my manager to praise me first...
Kujo Tenn: Isn't that fine? That just means you have a good relationship.
Isumi Haruka: Are you sure!? Aren't you internally sighing at how childish we are!?
Kujo Tenn: It's fine, right? We're all kids.
Yotsuba Tamaki: What's up, Tenntenn!? Aren't you being a bit lenient!? Is it because the camera's still rolling!
Isumi Haruka: Ah, the camera...
Kujo Tenn: Come on.
Isumi Haruka: ...Um. Kujo…san…Remember when, uh... you said, uh...
Kujo Tenn: Yes?
Isumi Haruka: You said you don't do idol work to be praised, you do it for yourself.
Kujo Tenn: That's right.
Yotsuba Tamaki: What's with that!? That's so cool...
Isumi Haruka: Since then, I've started to, um... worry about... whether I'm doing it to be praised.
Kujo Tenn: That's admirable.
Isumi Haruka: Again... You're really...
Kujo Tenn: I mean it honestly. I think you're admirable.
Isumi Haruka: ...Because, you know, if you're doing it to be praised, then when something happens, you end up blaming the other person.
Isumi Haruka: You end up saying "I told you to do it", or “I didn’t wanna do it”, or “It’s all your fault”.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Ah, I get it.
Rokuya Nagi: That's very important.
Isumi Haruka: Right. That's why it doesn’t matter to me. I'll sing my songs for myself with everyone here.
Isumi Haruka: It doesn't matter if I'm not chosen by my manager or the world as the best.
Kujo Tenn: Let's aim for the top.
Isumi Haruka: Huhhh!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Hell yeah! I wanna be the most popular in the unit!
Rokuya Nagi: I want to be popular too! "Never Green" is a wonderful song!
Isumi Haruka: Ah... When you say it like that, I want to be popular too.
Isumi Haruka: Yeah, I want to be the most popular after all! But Kujo-san is so far ahead...
Kujo Tenn: What are you talking about? Aiming for the top is the best feeling.
Kujo Tenn: As long as you don’t hurt yourself or the others if you don’t reach it.
Isumi Haruka: Yeah…
Kujo Tenn: I wanna be popular too.
Isumi Haruka: Ahaha! That line doesn’t suit you.
Kujo Tenn: Why not? I want to be properly popular. Let's make the best performance with this song. One that makes all the other members jealous.
Rokuya Nagi: That's wonderful! Let's make them jealous! The idea makes my heart dance!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Exciting! Let's win over the adults as the children’s group!
GREEN BUBBLE: Yeahh!!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Oh... We got so excited as if we reached the climax but we still have some questions left.
Rokuya Nagi: We got into quite a deep topic. Let's keep it light. Who’s next?
Kujo Tenn: Okay.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Yeah. Can I go next?
Kujo Tenn: Go ahead.
Yotsuba Tamaki: In relation to our song "Never Green," what's your favorite vegetable?
Kujo Tenn: Vegetable!?
Yotsuba Tamaki: I'm not really into veggies. But Sou-chan and Mikki said I should eat them.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Give me some recommendations! If you can't eat vegetables, plants are okay too!
Rokuya Nagi: Corn! It's sweet, has a nice texture, fresh, and it's really tasty.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Corn is so good! It's my favorite vegetable too!
Kujo Tenn: I’ve been into beets lately.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Beets?
Kujo Tenn: It's a pink vegetable. It's delicious even when made into jam.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Isn’t it a fruit if you can make jam out of it?
Kujo Tenn: I think it's a vegetable. It looks like turnip.
Yotsuba Tamaki: I see. How about you, Isumin?
Isumi Haruka: I like all vegetables, but I’ve noticed that I quite enjoy mint lately.
Yotsuba Tamaki: You've been eating mint ice cream for a while now.
Isumi Haruka: All ice cream tastes good, you know! Sometimes I put fresh leaves in and make tea out of it.
Rokuya Nagi: OH! Fresh herb tea is delicious!
Yotsuba Tamaki: How classy!
Isumi Haruka: Yeah! It looks beautiful. Minami made it for me.
Isumi Haruka: He's been growing them at home lately. He’s growing herbs in small planters…
Yotsuba Tamaki: Hm? Don’t we have a ton of these at home too?
Kujo Tenn: We have a lot of them as well. Parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme...
Rokuya Nagi: It’s a Dokidoki Cultivation kit from some "Magical★Kokona" blind goods. I bought them in bulk and distributed them.
Kujo Tenn: Really!?
Rokuya Nagi: It seems that Natsume-shi's cultivation kit landed on mint. I'm glad Isumi-shi liked it.
Isumi Haruka: Ah... Y-Yeah... Thank you...
Isumi Haruka: It's really taking over the pot.
Kujo Tenn: Mint is fertile and reproduces quickly. Oh, wait a minute...
Kujo Tenn: I think Re:vale went to plant their herbs then?
Rokuya Nagi: OH!
Kujo Tenn: I was negotiating with Yuki-san to offer him the rosemary Gaku harvested the other day.
Kujo Tenn: But even Yuki-san’s family home ended up troubled with a large harvest of herbs.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Did they rent a field or something?
Rokuya Nagi: I think they’ll land in trouble if they plant these on the ground…
Isumi Haruka: We should let them know...
Rokuya Nagi: Let's contact them later. Well then, last one! Kujo-shi!
Yotsuba Tamaki: Huh!? Isn't it my turn to MC!?
Isumi Haruka: It's fine, anyone can do it.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Are you sure!? Okay then.
Kujo Tenn: Yes. Well then, I'd like to ask a question.
Kujo Tenn: It's also related to this song.
Kujo Tenn: “Never Green” is about someone who has had bitter experiences in their past, looking back and affirming who they are now.
Kujo Tenn: I think it’s that kind of song.
Rokuya Nagi: Yes, it is. It evokes the feeling of euphoria after going through and overcoming something.
Kujo Tenn: That's right. I think everyone here has overcome or endured something.
Kujo Tenn: If you were to meet your past self, what would you tell them?
Yotsuba Tamaki: Ah...
Yotsuba Tamaki: It will be alright. You’re gonna go through tough times, but they all lead to being okay.
Rokuya Nagi: It's okay. I have a similar sentiment. What's different from Tamaki is...
Rokuya Nagi: You don’t have to hate, and you don’t have to be wary. It’s okay.
Rokuya Nagi: Everyone you meet will become someone you love.
Isumi Haruka: Wow... Somehow... Yeah, I get it...
Kujo Tenn: And what about you, Isumi-san?
Isumi Haruka: I still can't... I can't seem to find kind words to tell myself. I feel like I'd say something like "You idiot" or "It's your fault"...
Yotsuba Tamaki: Ah...
Kujo Tenn: And aside from those accusatory words?
Isumi Haruka: ...Aside from them...
Kujo Tenn: Yeah. I think it's good to say something nice to yourself.
Isumi Haruka: Mm...
Isumi Haruka: ...Hang in there, I guess. Just a little more, so hang in there.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Yeah. I want you to overcome this. I want to go pick you up myself.
Yotsuba Tamaki: We're all here for you.
Isumi Haruka: Stop it! You're trying to make me cry...!
Yotsuba Tamaki: I'm not! Are you gonna cry?
Isumi Haruka: I'm not gonna cry!
Kujo Tenn: Thank you for your answers, everyone. Each answer really touched my heart.
Isumi Haruka: Thank you.
Yotsuba Tamaki: Thanks a bunch.
Rokuya Nagi: I had a great time! Tamaki, will you wrap this up?
Yotsuba Tamaki: I’ll leave it to you.
Kujo Tenn: He’ll leave it to you.
Isumi Haruka: He's so carefree...

*E1-3 of Season 2*
Me: oh wow they're really giving Ed a dark villain arc! I love it! Of course, this means we will get a glorious redemption arc throughout the rest of the season where he does his best to make amends with Izzy and the crew, who he was explicitly shown to torture and traumatise <3
*After Ed's canonically-acknowledged-as-incredibly-shitty apology to the crew*
Me: Right, well that is obviously the moment where he changes and starts developing as a character! We're going to get a lot of growth this season; I can feel it. He's going to figure out that this isn't about him, it's about the people he hurt. He's going to actually improve as a person, in such a way that he starts to respect and care for his crew in a way he's never been shown to in the past! What an awesome arc! Yay!
*Season finale*

My Personal Weatherman and the D/s element Ep 7
If you haven't read my other commentary on this show, you can find it here.
Tumblr media
Ahhh, I'm so excited for this show. I've been looking forward to it so much. Yoh sweet baby is till watching Segasaki on his show. Aww... "I could watch his face forever." This miscommunication is crazy, but these two really love each other so much.
Yoh really does have an awesome friend in Minnie aka Manju.
Segasaki worrying that Yoh left again. This is a jealous Dom, but that's because he isn't secure in what he has. I've said countless times, there are no bad emotions, only bad reactions. Yoh knows there is something wrong, but he doesn't know what. He wants to fix it, and he is hitting all his usually submissive ways, but they aren't working.
Omg... I can't tell you how many times I watched that side eye from Segasaki as Yoh goes to removed the bag. This is very much a Dom fed up with his brat. 🤣🤣🤣
Yay! Flashbacks from Segasaki's point of view! He is extremely observant. Interesting that he at first negatively viewed Yoh, even though he himself admitted that the people he was surrounded by were shitty.
Tumblr media
Segasaki is arrogant, but not unkind. He observes, makes judgment calls, but isn't afraid to re-evaluate. That is actually a good thing to look for in a Dom. You don't want a Dom that is indecisive, nor one that can't admit when he's made a wrong call.
Tumblr media
Like I said, kind but arrogant. "You're really talented." I can smile much better. He isn't saying that Yoh didn't capture him right because he clearly admires his talent and tells us that his drawings were so good. It's that he saw something about himself to improve.
Tumblr media
He carefully cultivated what others saw, but Yoh saw through this. Knows his small little flashes of facial features. When I say that D/s couples really do watch each other this closely, we do. Remember, our relationships revolve around a lot of nonverbal communication. Each wanting to instinctively please each other, though in different ways. Each needing to anticipate the other's need. Verbal communication also needs to be good, but that's always why we often write guidelines. It helps us communicate our needs. However, you have to remember that this D/s relationship happened organically, so the verbal communication isn't there yet.
Side note, most Doms hate showing vulnerability to anyone other than their submissive. I do on here because I'm pretty much anonymous and this place is my therapy. In real life, though, I'm not very good at showing vulnerability even to my submissive. Though I've gotten softer since my kids.
There is that arrogance again. No one was worth showing his true feelings to. Got me questioning myself when people call me arrogant. But damn, I melted when he asked Yoh not to leave.
The famous curry. We're finally going to know the story. OMG, but I love how natural they both are in their positions. They might not understand their feelings towards each other, but they understand themselves. Segasaki's face as he eats the curry! I'm dying. And you can not tell me that Yoh can read all of Segasaki's facial expressions but didn't recognize Segasaki's facial expression this time? Segasaki covers himself well by bringing up the congee.
Segasaki goes right into commanding Yoh. Telling him to put the curry in Tupperware, and he'll be the only one eating it. He better not touch it. Yoh instinctively obeys. The way he taps Yoh's forehead and tells him, "This is mine." Damn, Yoh, how did you miss that? You is cute and you is stupid. Segasaki happily eating the terrible curry says everything.
Ahh, Segasaki rubbing Yoh's head. Bestowing a reward. The way Yoh's eyes literally twinkled due to it. Absolutely fucking adorable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I came all the way here for you. Go ahead and take a good look and draw." When they talk about Segasaki's face when he asked if he really looked like this. Who called it peeps? Who called it. "Draw more. If it's the depths of my heart, as long as it's you, then I don't mind." And there is that Dom intensity and possessiveness.
Tumblr media
And back to present day with rain crashing down outside. Segasaki goes looking for Yoh, but can't find him.
OMG, the roof scene is everything. "Without you, I can't breathe." The kiss, that Yoh didn't even think of denying Segasaki. The fact that Segasaki cried because he thought Yoh left. Ugh. We have to watch this again.
I think this is my favorite episode. Yoh is so excited because Segasaki apologizing because he never has before. Nope, Segasaki is apologizing for trusting him and ties him up. Dead. This is the best.
Normies who might be thinking that Yoh is scared. Please note, other than saying "hold on, wait." He offers up no further struggle. Our little coconut is confused and maybe a little scared because he doesn't know why Segasaki is acting like this, but he isn't scared of Sagasaki or what he is doing. There is a fundamental comfort and trust there, hence the no struggle. Remember he is a brat, if he wants to struggle he will. Remember the last episode where he threw a fucking fit? As far as Segasaki doing it without asking, well remember their relationship has an in place agreement of Segasaki having total control. Yoh knew that Segasaki was controlling and a tyrant when he made the agreement. But let me say this, in real life there should be a safe word in place even in these types of relationships. Again, though, this is an organic lifestyle relationships, so we were lucky we got the agreement.
I'm so excited about the next episode!!! Why must we wait! Ahhh. Hope you guys enjoyed! 💜💜💜

SSR Lilia Vanrouge - Beach Wear Voice Lines
Tumblr media
When Summoned: It's summer! It's the beach! It's an uninhabited island~! We're going to have a blast on this little vacation, Stitch! (Stitch: Wheee!)
Summon Line: I can't believe I've gotten the awesome privilege of having such a fun encounter on this strange island. My excitement just won't go away.
Groooovy!!: Let's go, Stitch! We'll rule this summer! (Stitch: Yay!)
Home: Onwards towards the beach, Stitch! (Stitch: Oooh!)
Swap Looks: Even in summer I'm cute, don'tcha think?
Home Idle 1: I didn't expect him to be able to bring down a palm tree with one hit... Kufufu, Stitch is quite the rascal.
Home Idle 2: There's kayaking, beach volleyball, and scuba diving... Ah, whatever shall I do? There's far too much I want to do while here on this island.
Home Idle 3: Riddle has a tendency of being much too serious. Spending some time away from everything on this uninhabited island may do him some good.
Home Idle - Login: One must have the courage to enjoy yourself, especially when in a crisis such as this. See, Stitch agrees with me. (Stitch: Rock and Roll!)
Home Idle - Groovy: That Gantu fellow seems like he's real uptight. We're all out here on the beach during summer, we should all be enjoying ourselves!
Home Tap 1: Stitch is a really cute fellow. I find it so soothing to just look into his large, round eyes, and admire those stunning teeth... Ah, he just bit me!
Home Tap 2: Once, while travelling in a tropical country, I became entangled with some troublesome fellows. And let me tell you, they looked exactly like how Azul is dressed right now.
Home Tap 3: Don't you think my super summer style is slammin'? Come, come, don't be so shy, take a good look at me.
Home Tap 4: Ace and I played a game of Beach Flags just a bit ago. The result? Of course, it ended with my absolute victory.
Home Tap 5: I see there are frogs and lizards here, so we should be good on sustenance. What, you don't want to eat those? It's not good to be picky like that, you know.
Home Tap - Groovy: I never thought I'd ever be able to enjoy summer on the beach like this… But thanks to that strange book, I was able to have a wonderful experience.
Duo: [LILIA]: Ace, we'll bang this out and beat 'em all up! [ACE]: Lilia-senpai, ooh, you tryin' out my catchphrase?

Uh oh, it wasn't Dulce, was it? She is known for being.. well, Dulce. Find out in the next segment.
Previous / Next (Transcript under the cut)
(1.) [Carlo] This is...
[Mia] Dulce-
(2.) [Sofia] It's amazing! And with the added bacon bits? There's added flavor and crunch. I like these a lot.
(3.) [Mia] Yes, and somehow everything altogether isn't overwhelming. Every ingredient shines in harmony.
[Carlo] Delicious, but personally, I feel like the bacon bits make these a bit heavy for an appetizer.
(4.) [Dulce] Thank you, judges.
[Andrea] Next, here's Rubiya's appetizer!
(5.) [Rubiya] Okayy, Dulce! I see you. She's setting the bar high and I'm older than her. Well, we're the same age right now, but I'm in a grade above her at school. Anyway, my goal is to impress all three judges. Let's do this.
(6.) [Rubiya] Judges, I present to you: Spaghetti with merguez sausage meatballs and shakshuka sauce with a side of garlic flatbread with pea shoots.
(7.) [Carlo] The meatballs are a bit dry... but I suppose if you put enough of the sauce on them they're not so bad.
(8.) [Mia] Oh hush now, Carlo. That's what the sauce is there for.
[Carlo] It's good, though. It's good.
[Mia] Rubiya, let me add that I thoroughly enjoy the texture of your pasta as well.
(9.) [Rubiya] Thank you, judges. I appreciate the feedback.
[Andrea] Lastly, we have Chef Alex's appetizer.
(10.) [Alex] It's time.
(11.) [Alex] Judges, I give you a raclette with merguez sausage, pea shoots, vegetable flatbread, and a side of shakshuka sauce.
(12.) [Sofia] Lovely presentation, Chef Alex.
[Carlo] It seems lazy to me, but at least you didn't try to replace marinara sauce with shakshuka sauce and call it a day.
[Mia] I can't wait to try everything.
(13.) [Mia] I was a bit hesitant about the sauce being used as a side, but whatever you added to it really made it more complex. Everything is delicious.
(14.) [Sofia] The type of cheese you chose too... it's interesting.
(15.) [Carlo] I wish you did more with the pea shoots, but the dish itself works.
(16.) [Alex] Thank you, judges.
[Andrea] Thank you, chefs! Please proceed to the room next door so that the judges can begin their discussion.
(17.) *Muffled voices*
(18.) [Lewis] Well, it was nice meeting everyone. Do you guys want to share phone numbers to keep in contact with each other?
[Rubiya] Lewis! Don't say that! It's not certain that you're the one who's diced.
(19.) [Dulce] For sure it's not you, Rubiya. Chef Mia stood up for you and this is basically her show. That spaghetti did look awesome in every way.
[Rubiya] Thank you! So did your pizza wedges.
(20.) [Alex] Yeah, everyone here has talent and technique... and make company. It would be cool to get everyone's number.
[Lewis] Yes! Let's do it.
[Rubiya] Yay!!!
(21.) [Alex] Well, I'm not some heartless monster. I do feel bad for Lewis, I guess.
(22.) [Andrea] Welcome back to the judges' table, chefs. Our judges have made their decision.
(23.) N/A
(24.) [Mia] Chefs, thank you for the appetizers you have prepared for us. The various dishes we had were splendid.
[Carlo] We had much to discuss, both good and bad things despite there being an obvious choice regarding who should be diced.
(25.) [Sofia] However, we discovered something... turns out, we have a bigger issue than burnt croutons.
(26.) [Mia] Somebody here did not fully follow the rules of Diced Junior.

The Pilot and his girl - ch. 3
Tumblr media
So I have a clear plan for where this fic is going now, yay! I've outlined about 13-14 chapters and we're gonna do a little bit of TLoU crossover down the line so expect a Joel/Tommy cameo at some point :) I also decided on a title finally so it's now offically The Pilot and his girl
I'll add warnings as needed but there's only fluff in these first few chapters, playing around with our sweet Frankie.
(oh, btw, for anyone who notices, I know "chamo" is Venezuelan, but I love the expression, maybe the chef is from Venezuela :) )

Chapter 4
It’s not until Denny drives past in his truck and honks loudly that Frankie and you finally break apart, you’re giggling into Frankie’s neck as he waves at his boss and from the corner of your eye you see Denny give Frankie a gleeful thumb’s up through the window.
“Maybe I should take you somewhere nicer than an airfield,” Frankie says and pushes back a strand of your hair. He’s got his hand hooked around your shoulders, behind your head, and the other still on your cheek. He’s warm and solid pressed up against you, the warm metal of the car at your back and him in front.
“I don’t wanna break the mood,” you smile at him, “but I’m really hungry. Do you wanna have lunch since our breakfast was cut short?”
“I’m fucking starving,” Frankie confesses with a grin. “There’s a small place nearby that does really good tacos if you like that? They’re really good and they’re usually quiet during the day.”
“Tacos sounds awesome, I haven’t had any in ages.”
“Ok then, let’s get some tacos in you,” Frankie pulls you in for a final kiss, which turns into another long, slow exploration of each other's tongues until Frankie’s stomach rumbles loudly in protest and you start giggling pressed against his lips. Frankie reluctantly lets go of your bottom lip and glances down at his small belly.
“Traitor,” he scolds it and reaches behind you to open the door to the truck, giving you a hand inside.
The taco place really is nearby, less than ten minutes later Frankie pulls into a small parking lot next to a green park. Across the road is a small cluster of buildings, one sporting a big chilli pepper and the sign “El Chibiski” in bright colours.
“I thought we could get some food and then eat in the park if you want?” Frankie asks as he parks the car and pulls off his hoodie, you copy him and leave his green one in the truck.
“You’ve got this all planned out, it sounds like a great idea,” you say as he jumps out of the car and quickly comes round to your side to open the door. “You’re never gonna let me open this door, are you?” you smile as he takes your hand and you step down.
“No, never,” he grins and closes it behind you.
The taqueria is almost empty, the lunch rush over, and the smell that hits you as Frankie opens the door is mouth watering. As if on cue your stomach rumbles and he chuckles as you look at the menu over the counter.
“Got any recommendations?” you ask him, “I definitely want some pastor but it all looks good.”
“The carnitas are my weakness, and the gringas.” He points to two dishes on the board. “I say we get all three and some bistec ones too and just share everything, seeing as they don’t have fries on the menu.” He says the last thing with a grin and a quick glance at you.
“I guess that means you’re getting a second date, Morales,” you huff in fake exasperation, “should’ve known you had ulterior motives.”
“Oh no, you’ve seen right through my clever plans, cariño,” he giggles as you give him a playful slap on the shoulder. He gives your hand a quick squeeze, smiling under his cap, before stepping forward to order, adding a couple of bottles of water too.
You watch Frankie chat in Spanish to the guy taking the order, exchanging jokes as he relays the order back to the kitchen. It sounds like Frankie comes here a lot by the way the chef greets him too when he spots him through the open order window. It’s an easy atmosphere and it’s nice seeing Frankie’s relaxed manner with the staff. You can only see him from behind but his head falls back as he laughs loudly at something the guy behind the counter says, and the chef yells a response from the kitchen, making them break out into more laughter. There’s something about seeing a guy you’re dating be liked by others, like a little green flag popping up. But to be fair, so far you’d seen no red flags around Frankie. He seems to be exactly what he looks like; a friendly guy, a little bit shy sometimes, but easy to like and easy to be around, a warm personality that seems to shine when he’s comfortable and in his element. You find yourself smiling as you hear Frankie laughing again, he makes you feel good, even though you’ve known him less than twenty four hours.
When he comes back over he's got a big grin on his face, still chuckling from the jokes at the counter.
“They always tell the dirtiest jokes,” he says, “I’m too embarrassed to translate them,” he smiles as he sits down in the chair next to you.
“You know I speak Spanish, right?” you smirk at him and his eyes widen in shocked surprise and his neck immediately starts turning red, his cheeks tinged with pink.
“¿Tú hablas español?”
“Not a word, but seeing you blush was totally worth the lie, you’re so cute.” You can’t help touching his flushed cheeks.
Frankie bursts into rumbling laughter as he grabs you and pulls you closer, chair and all. “Cheeky girl,” he grins and takes hold of your chin before kissing you softly. You kiss him back with a smile and his scruffy beard tickles your cheek when he moves his lips and presses a soft kiss just below you ear.
“Maybe I should teach you some Spanish,” he murmurs, his breath hot against your skin, “so I can tell you exactly what you do to me when you’re this close.” He presses his lips to the thin skin under your ear again, letting his tongue slip out for a taste of the salt before kissing it again. Your breath catches in your throat as a shiver runs down your spine, heat pooling between your legs, creeping up your neck. When Frankie leans back he gives you a cheeky smile. “Now who’s blushing, hermosa?”
You hook a couple of fingers into his t-shirt and pull him in for another kiss and he comes willingly, still with a cheeky smile.
It takes a few more minutes, you’re lost in your own bubble with Frankie, but when someone loudly clears their throat next to you, you reluctantly lean back and look up.
“Chamo, enserio?” The chef is holding out a take away bag for Frankie, grinning down at him, and Frankie gives a little embarrassed shrug and takes the bag while the chef gives him a friendly slap on the shoulder, smiles at you and retreats into the kitchen, waving at Frankie’s “Gracias”.
Frankie calls out a goodbye to the guy behind the counter as you leave the restaurant, his hand seems to automatically fall to the small of your back now, and you cross the street to the park. The park isn’t big, but big enough so that when you walk towards the middle the noises from the street and the city are muted. Frankie stops by his truck and pulls out a blanket from the backseat and when you find a shady spot under a big leafy tree he shakes it out for you both to sit on.
The smell from the take away containers makes your stomach rumble as Frankie pops them open and when you finally get to bite into a taco with pastor meat you moan and let your head fall back.
“This is so fucking good, Frankie,” you groan and go for another bite, missing how Frankie’s hands stops trying to pick up one of the carnitas as his eyes go dark, fixed on your mouth. He swallows and shifts on the blanket, looking down at his food again.
“Yeah, they do the best Mexican in town, we go there for lunch a lot since it’s so close to the airfield.” He grabs his taco and keeps his eyes on it as he takes a big bite, trying to ignore the way you moan again at the taste.
“I can see why you like it, I’d be here every lunch if it was this close to my job,” you say, trying to catch some juice that’s running down your hand.
“I go too often to be honest, I think the carnitas are directly responsible for my old man’s belly,” Frankie looks down at his midriff and pats the small soft swell under his t-shirt, “definitely not as flat as it was in my 20’s.”
“I like it,” you say, “can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but…it’s kinda sexy on a guy, something soft when you’re all hard angles and muscles everywhere else.”
“You think my old man’s belly is sexy?” Frankie is looking pretty pleased about your confession.
“Yeah, I do. And stop calling it an old man’s belly, you can’t be that old?”
“34, and I’m already going grey,” Frankie scrubs at his beard, where there’s a few strands of grey with the dark brown.
“Oh yeah, you’re ancient.” you smile and touch your fingertips to his few grey hairs. “A whole two years older than me.”
“I nearly had a panic attack when I saw the first grey one,” Frankie says, “but my friend Pope has loads and he’s younger so I try not to worry.”
“I think you look really good, Frankie, with or without grey hair,” you reply and he looks over with a warm smile, his eyes crinkling in that way that makes him look so soft and sweet.
“Thank you, hermosa, and I think you’re probably the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”
“Frankie…” you blush and can’t even make yourself look at him as he continues to smile at you. “I’m serious,” he says, “you made my heart stop when you smiled in the bar last night, and you weren’t even looking at me.”
You’re too overwhelmed by his attention to even find your voice and just blush even more like a fool while you pretend to pick another taco from the boxes. Your heart is racing at a hundred miles per hour and you can still feel Frankie smiling at you, his half eaten taco in hand.
“Fuck!” Frankie suddenly sputters out. You look up at him and see a large drip of juice from his taco trickling down his white t-shirt. “Damn, I guess I was pushing my luck with the tacos after the cherry pie,” he grumbles and gratefully takes the napkins you hand him. Wiping at the stain only makes it worse, spreading it out, and Frankie soon gives up, accepting his now stained appearance. “Can’t take me anywhere,” he gives you an apologetic smile and finishes off his carnita.
It’s easy to hang out with Frankie as you share the remaining tacos, sitting close to him on the blanket, talking about movies. He’s making a list of horror movies for a future date and your loud protests make him laugh as he lists one movie gorier than the other. Finally you force him to have the last carnita, your stomach already full, and as he bites into it you tip backwards onto the blanket.
“I’m so full, Frankie, I’m never eating again,” you groan as you put your hands over your belly, laying flat on your back. You can hear Frankie chuckle with his mouth full and you glance up at his profile. The air is warm in the shade under the tree, the light filtering through the leaves makes a dappled pattern over his body and cheeks but his nose and eyes are still shaded by the peak of his cap.
“Frankie, come here,” you beckon him and he turns to look down at you as you put your hand on his shoulder. He wipes his hands and his mouth on a napkin, before stretching out next to you, propping himself up on his elbow.
“Can I take your cap off?”
“Sure,” he replies with a smile, and you reach up and pull it off him. The sun immediately creates a halo of unruly curls around his head and you can see the dark brown of his eyes change to something more amber. Looking at the way the sun turns his dark brown curls golden you reach up and push your fingertips through them, your nails scratching along his scalp as the smooth strands slip underneath your hands. A shiver runs through him and he closes his eyes, leaning into your hands, as you play with his curls, letting them wrap around your fingers and watch how they bounce back when you let go. Frankie sighs and drops down on your chest, resting his head just above your stomach. “Please, don’t stop doing that,” he pleads and you continue to run your fingers through his hair, hearing him moan gently as his breathing slows down.
You’re not sure when he actually falls asleep but when you hear a soft snore from him you realise he’s in a deep slumber on your chest, one arm thrown across your stomach. Continuing to caress his curls, making them stand on end even more, you close your eyes too and enjoy the feeling of his solid body pressed against your side and warm breaths against your t-shirt. It doesn’t take long before you’re asleep too.
Frankie wakes up first, blinking at the bright light and feeling disorientated before turning his head and seeing you sleeping with a hand in his hair. Your head is tilted sideways, your mouth slightly open and he can feel your chest rise and fall with your gentle breaths. Carefully he pushes himself up so that he can move his arm and slide the back of his hand across your cheek. Sleep and sun has made your skin flushed and he relishes the silky feel of it as he caresses you lightly.
The movement must have roused you because he sees your eyes move as you slowly blink, turning your head to focus on him.
“Hi,” he says gently with a smile and you smile back at him, “Hi, Frankie.”
You yawn, clamping a hand over your mouth and giggling as it makes Frankie yawn too. He scoots up further so that he can prop himself up on his elbow closer to your head and his hand leaves your cheek, caressing down your neck, stroking random patterns over your skin.
“I guess tacos make us sleepy,” he smiles and you nod, slightly distracted by how close he is as he leans over you, blocking the sun. His curls are even more unruly, sticking up all over his head, and you run your hand over them again, lacing in your fingers into the curls at his neck and pulling him down towards your mouth. He comes willingly, his lips finding yours easily and when he parts them for you, his tongue is soft and eager against yours. The cool tip of his nose brushes against your cheek as he moves closer, deepening the kiss when you let out a low moan against him. Your fingers wrap tightly around his neck and your other hand finds the side of his chest, the warm cotton soft against your palm as you touch him properly for the first time. He’s firm under your touch, bunched muscles as he holds himself up over you and you caress further up his back. You relish in being able to feel the curve of his shoulder, the way his spine dips between his shoulder blades and disappears down towards the edge of his jeans, wishing there was no fabric under your hand.
You feel his hand leave your neck, graze across your throat and softly brush against your breast as Frankie lets his fingertips trail down along your torso, finding the sliver of skin between your jeans and t-shirt. With a soft grip he runs his thumb along it, grabbing your waist and pulling you closer.
“Is this ok?” he whispers close to your mouth as his hand caresses under your t-shirt.
“Yes, Frankie,” you murmur and push your lips against his, tasting him on your tongue as your need for him grows, a louder moan escaping you. Your response makes him bolder and he pushes you into the blanket with a growl, buried against your mouth. His large hand is flat against your torso and you can feel how he wants to move it further up under your shirt, to feel more, grab more, but you’re still out in the open, still in public, and with a groan he pulls back. He slumps down beside you, burying his face in the crook of your neck with a sigh. His hand leaves your skin, instead he rests it modestly on your stomach, over your t-shirt.
“Tan suave, hermosa,” he mumbles, “When can I see you again?” He pushes himself up on his elbow again, looking down at you with eyes that seem darker.
“I’m busy next weekend, the wedding,” you explain with an apologetic smile, “but after that I’m all yours.”
“All mine, huh?” Frankie grins and you wink back at him. “I wanna take you out for dinner, properly, but I also don’t wanna wait two weeks to see you again,” he says, “maybe we can catch up for drinks or something before then? Or dinner if things aren’t too crazy at the airfield, depending on when I can get away.”
“I’d like that, Frankie, “ you smile at him, “I’ll check with the bride what the plans are for this week so I know what evenings I’m free, I know she had some sort of social events planned and then the rehearsal dinner on Friday.”
“Wow, she’s going all out with this wedding?” Frankie raises his eyebrows.
“Yeah, full on everything, rehearsal dinner, actual wedding day and then spa day and brunch on Sunday. I’m going to work on Monday after the wedding to relax…” you sigh, thinking about how drained you were going to be after three days of socialising with a crowd mostly made up of strangers. “Speaking of next week,” you say with a glance at your phone, “I should probably get home and get everything ready for it.”
“Yeah, sounds like you’ve got an intense week coming up,” Frankie smiles and pushes himself up to his feet before giving his hand to you, pulling you to your feet. “I’d love to see you soon if you can but don’t stress it, there’s time.”
He pulls you in for a kiss as you stand, wrapping your arms around his neck before sliding his hands down your waist, stopping to tug you closer to him. You press up against him, feeling his belt buckle dig into your stomach and his mustache tickles you as he gently makes you open your mouth to him again. Kissing him feels addicting and when he starts pulling away you slip your fingers into the curls at the back of his head and slowly let your fingernails run along his scalp. He immediately moans and pulls closer again, melting against you.
It takes you a while to get back to the truck, stopping for more kisses, Frankie’s arm wrapped around your shoulders, and his soft lips so easy to reach up to, his hand sliding up to hold your neck, grabbing your hair and pulling you in for another long kiss while the afternoon slips away. When you’re finally by the passenger door he cages you in against the truck, his hands on either side of your head as you pull him closer, needing more of him. It leaves you both breathless, Frankie shifting his stance when his obvious hard on becomes uncomfortable but it does nothing to hide it.
“Sorry,” he mutters when he pulls back a little from you, giving you an embarrassed little grin, “it’s difficult to control when you’re so close, hermosa, you feel so good.”
“Don’t be sorry,” you mumble, pulling him back, “mine’s less obvious but just as out of control.” Frankie groans and drops his head to his chest before taking a deep breath, “Ok, I need to get you home before you say more things like that.” He opens the door behind you, “Get in before I change my mind.”
Frankie drives back to the coffee shop where your car is parked and pulls up next to it, again jumping out and coming around to your door to open it. You stay in your seat until he puts out his hand for yours this time and he gives you a warm smile.
“You’re learning, cariño, never letting you touch this door.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it,” you smile back and take his hand and step down. He holds onto it as you walk over to your car, parked just down the street. After you unlock it and put your jacket inside you turn back to him. He’s smiling down at you, his eyes crinkling at the corners and his face is so handsome and warm it makes you wish you could call off all the plans for the week and just spend it with him.
“I’ve had a really good time, Frankie,” you say as his hand comes up to cup your cheek, his thumb smooth over your skin.
“Me too,” he says, “call me about next week, I’ll make sure that Denny lets me leave on time any evening you’re not busy. I really want to see you again soon, hermosa.” The last thing he says as his thumb caresses your lips, tracing the outline of them, his eyes flitting between your eyes and your mouth.
“I’ll see if I can get out of some of all the social events, maybe Wednesday’s…” You close your eyes as Frankie’s beard tickles the side of your neck, his lips moving slowly over your skin. “You’re making it very hard to concentrate, Frankie,” you protest weakly and you hear him chuckle before he pulls back.
“Ok, I’ll let you go,” he gives you a grin, “I need to start planning our movie date, need to get my dvd of The Shining back, I thought we’d start with that one.”
Your face pulls into a grimace, wrinkling your nose at the prospect of a horror film and it makes Frankie laugh.
“Un-wrinkle your face, hermosa,” he rubs his thumb down your nose with a grin, “I won’t really make you watch it if you don’t want to.”
“Let’s start with something less scary, please.”
“Anything you want, really,” he replies and you lean into him, kissing him one last time before getting in your car. “Thank you, Frankie, for today.”
“See you soon, hermosa,” he smiles back at you.
Your week turns out to be more hectic than anticipated and as Friday rolls around you still haven't been able to see Frankie. Between your work, his work and the looming wedding, all you’d managed was a few phone calls late in the evenings when you got home. You’d hear Frankie’s sleepy voice assure you it wasn’t too late when you called him and then his rich baritone would keep you company as you got ready for bed. On Thursday you’d crawled into bed and facetimed him, his dimly lit bedroom making his eyes black as he smiled at your big yawns. You wish you could ask him to come over and just sleep next to you, the ache for him almost physically painful. When you said goodnight and turned off your phone you rolled onto your side, trying to imagine what it would feel like if you had Frankie’s warm body curled around your own as you drifted off to sleep.
Friday morning you put on your office clothes and pack a bag for the rehearsal dinner; a dress and heels to swap into after work before heading to the very upscale restaurant booked by the groom’s parents. Frankie has sent you a sweet good morning text and you reply as you wait for your coffee to drip down, smiling at his usual lack of capital letters, punctuation or any apostrophes. You’d asked him about it during the week, thinking maybe his phone was broken, and after a few awkward chuckles he’d confessed; he just hadn’t figured out how to do them on a smartphone and now he was too embarrassed to ask anyone. You’d tried to not laugh, his flustered huffs down the phone made you want to hug him tight, and you’d promised to show him how to do it the next time you met.
“Didn’t realise I’d need a college degree just to type on the phone,” he’d chortled.
You manage to leave work a little bit early and change into your dress and heels, touching up your make-up and hair, before heading out. As you arrive early to the restaurant you find one of your best friends, Sophia, at the bar. She’d missed the bachelorette party and had only just flown in for the wedding weekend, her suitcase still next to her bar stool. She waves both her hands over her head when she spots you and you all but run over to her with your arms outstretched.
“It’s so good to see you, sweetie,” Sophia says after you’ve both stopped hugging and squealing, tucking her arm under yours, squeezing it tightly. “I miss having you around.”
“Well, that’s what happens when you move to another continent and decide to marry some random Welsh girl,” you reply. Sophia had married Carys three years earlier and moved back with her to London a year later. “Speaking of, where is she? Not here for the wedding?”
“She is, but she had to wrap something up at work, she’ll be here in time for dinner.”
The bartender comes over and you both order champagne, seeing as it’s the groom’s parents who will be footing the bill for the open bar. Sophie grabs her suitcase and glass and motions you over to one of the booths.
“So what’s going on with you? I hate to be the one that asks the obvious question but…anyone new in your life? It’s been ages since..you know who…and I’d love to see you happy with someone.”
You take a sip of the champagne to avoid answering straight away. You didn’t like talking about the people you were dating too soon, preferring to find your footing and know where it was heading before fielding a hundred questions from your friends. But Sophia was different, she wouldn’t start planning your wedding or pester you to introduce him to her, and she was a solid judge of character.
“Ok, so…” you start slowly and Sophia lights up, her smile like a thousand watts, “I did meet this one guy last Saturday.”
“I fucking knew it!” she exclaims, “you looked different, happy different, sweetie.”
“We’ve only had one date so far, but it was really nice,” you say, smiling at the memory of your Sunday with Frankie.
“What’s his name?” Sophia asks, sipping her drink.
“Frankie, Francisco Morales.”
“Good name, great name, very solid.” Sophia smiles, “I approve of his mother’s choice of name.”
“Dumbass,” you chide her with a snicker. “He was at the last bar we went to with the bachelorette party, he was there with some friends, and he was so sweet and handsome and kinda shy that I gave him my number, despite swearing to never do that again.”
“Sweet and handsome is good, what does he look like?”
“I won’t do him justice at all, but he has brown, curly hair, dark brown eyes and an adorable scruffy beard with a dimple. But his face is just perfectly sweet and soft and when he smiles his eyes go all warm and I feel like I can’t move when he looks at me.”
“Girl, you have a crush on this man, I can tell…” Sophia giggles and clinks her glass against yours.
“I do, I can’t deny,” you laugh with her. “We kissed on Sunday and, oh my god, I just wanted to take him home and keep him in my bed for a week, maybe two.” You lean back, sighing as you remember how Frankie’s body felt pressed up against yours, his eager tongue slipping against yours as his hand slipped under your t-shirt.
“So do it, what have you got to lose?”
“Nothing, but this week has been crazy and the entire weekend is packed. He knows I’m busy so we’re gonna try to meet up for drinks some night next week. But definitely dinner next Saturday,” you take another sip of your champagne.
“Ok, but what are you doing here tonight, babe?” Sophia looks at you with a frown. “It’s not like you have to be at the rehearsal dinner, bail and go see him instead.”
“Lizzy would kill me, and if not her than Steve’s mother, they’re paying for this thing.”
“Lizzy will not kill you if you ditch her for a guy that makes you smile like that,” Sophia points a meaningful finger at your face, you can’t seem to make the corners of your mouth go down. Talking about Frankie has you longing for him and as Sophia pokes you in the side you start giggling, wriggling away from her. “Go see him, call him right now, see if he’s free, and then you go fuck his brains out and come to the wedding as a new woman.” She pokes you again, “Go now, call him. If he’s available I’ll talk to Lizzy.”
“Ok, ok, jeez, woman, I’m going,” you laugh and push yourself out of the booth.
You leave the bar area and wander out to the patio in the back, away from the crowd that’s starting to congregate in the restaurant, as you pull up Frankie’s number on your phone.
“Hey, hermosa,” his warm, rich voice comes through the phone after two rings and you feel yourself smiling. “What’s up, I thought you were at the rehearsal dinner?
“I am, it’s just about to start. I just wanted to talk to you, I wish we could’ve made time to meet up this week.”
“Yeah, me too, cariño, I’m sorry I was so busy at work.”
“No, I’m the one who’s had the crazy week and all the stuff planned this weekend. But I was thinking, maybe I can sneak away from this dinner early and we can meet up, unless you already have plans?”
“I do, I’m meeting the boys for a couple of drinks, but I will most definitely ditch them for you any day.” You can hear the smile in his voice as he gets eager about the idea.
“Maybe if I stay for the actual dinner here and leave when that’s done? So you can hang out with your friends first and then we can meet up for a drink or something?”
“Yeah, that sounds like a great idea, we’re going to some new place downtown that Will wanted to try out, and I think it’s pretty close to your restaurant. Send me a message when dinner is done and I’ll come and meet you there, ok?” In the background you can hear someone yell, “Come on, Fish!” and he calls for them to give him a sec.
“Go Frankie, go with them, I’ll message you when I’m done.” You feel heat rising in your cheeks at the thought of seeing Frankie again so soon. Frankie’s voice is softer and lower, you can hear him walking, his boots scuffing across a hard surface as he replies.
“Can’t wait, hermosa, I miss you.”
“Miss you too, Frankie.”
True to her word, Sophia pulls Lizzy to one side during the dinner and explains why you’ll be disappearing as soon as her uncle Herb has wrapped up his rambling speech about Steve mowing his lawn. Both women shoot you wide grins and thumbs up across the room as you excuse yourself while the coffee and dessert is being brought in, fumbling in your bag for your phone to text Frankie.
You wait for him to arrive just inside the entrance of the restaurant and can’t help but laugh as Sophia’s head pops out from behind one of the large potted plants, looking like she’s in a bad spy movie.
“What?” she giggles, “I just wanna see this guy who’s got you all smiley. I’ll be totally discreet.”
“Come here, dumbass,” you say fondly, and she wraps her arms around you in a big hug.
“Sweetie, I hope he’s all you want him to be, you deserve this.”
“Thanks, Soph, you’ve always got my back,” you peck her on the cheek and she gives you a smile before glancing over at the big windows on either side of the glass door.
“Please tell me that’s him,” she mouths, her eyes widening slightly.
You turn and spot Frankie walking towards the door and your breath catches in your throat at the sight of him. He hasn’t seen you yet and as you watch he smooths his large hands down the front of his dark red button up shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, showing off his strong looking forearms. He’s ditched the cap and the evening breeze ruffles his curls, making them escape the attempt you can see he’s made at taming them. He’s got dark jeans on, hugging his thighs and showing off his ridiculous shoulder to hip ratio. Spotting you through the door his eyes crinkle and he gives you that sweet nervous smile. You smile back at him as his hand shoots up and rubs the back of his neck, his ever present awkward little gesture that makes your heart clench.
You’re about to turn and say goodbye to Sophia when she swiftly steps forwards and opens the door to the restaurant for Frankie.
“You must be Frankie,” she beams at him, ushering him inside.
“Uh, yeah, I am, hi,” he stutters, taking the hand Sophia holds out.
“Hi Frankie,” you say, “this is my friend Sophia, she’s just leaving.” You give her a stern look that she ignores.
“Really nice to meet you, Frankie, I’m so happy I convinced my darling friend here to ditch this dull crowd and call you instead.” She’s still beaming at Frankie, unashamedly looking him up and down as you step closer to him. He seems to find himself a little and gives Sophia a friendly smile before turning his attention back to you.
“Hi, hermosa,” he says in a low voice as he drops his head and kisses your cheek, his hand landing on your waist and pulling you closer.
Sophia gives you a quick thumbs up and an excited grin before Frankie looks up again.
“Alright, Mr Morales, take my girl out and show her a good time, you have my blessing,” she croons and starts ushering you both out the door. “Now get going before you get roped into this damn wedding again, sweetie.”
“Bye, Soph, I’ll see you tomorrow.” you call out as you leave, Frankie’s arm still around your waist.
You both laugh as you walk down the street, getting away from the restaurant. “I’m sorry about the ambush,” you giggle, “She’s a bit of a whirlwind but she’s my best friend, I can’t deny her anything.”
“She seems like a good friend, looking out for you,” he smiles.
“Yeah, always.” You tug lightly at him, making him stop as you turn, looking up at him. “Hi,” you whisper and his arms wrap around your waist.
“Hi,” he mumbles, dropping his head to your forehead, his eyes warm and soft. He stays still for a few beats but when you reach up for his lips he almost makes you stumble back with how fiercely he kisses you. His arms come up along your back, pulling you in as his tongue frantically licks into your mouth and you moan against him, his fevered advance making your body ache. A few moments pass, his body hard against your own as he seems to need to pull you as close as possible, his hot breath over your skin as he kisses you acutely. Only the loud whoop from across the street makes you break apart.
“You’re so gorgeous in that dress, hermosa,” he murmurs as he reluctantly pulls back, letting his eyes slide over the black wrap dress and down your legs on display. “You’re always gorgeous but that dress on you…” he trails off, his hands slipping from your waist, down over your hips. His eyes are dark and you feel your own need mirrored in them as he looks up at you again.
Eventually he takes your hand and starts walking again, “About that drink, yeah?”
You nod and let your breath slip out, slowly exhaling to calm your nerves, squeezing his hand tightly.
The night is a disaster. As you let the door to your place slam shut behind you, you slip down to the floor, tugging your heels off as hot tears start welling up. All you can see when you squeeze your eyes shut is Frankie’s furious face as he slammed the man against the wall, the dull thump of his fist against his face, the blood pouring from the battered nose. Sweet, shy Frankie suddenly dealing out violence, dropping the man with two swift punches and then turning back to you, taking hold of your arms, his knuckles still coated in blood, another man’s blood.
You’d barely heard him as he tried to make sure you were ok. It had been nothing. The man had groped you as you left the ladies, you’d slapped his hand away and he’d grabbed your arm, pulling you around with a leer. Frankie had appeared at your side out of nowhere, the man slumping on the floor a moment later. But it was Frankie’s transformation that scared you, his face had been furious, but as the punches fell it was cold, emotionless, and he didn’t even flinch as blood spluttered from the man’s broken nose. When he took hold of your arms, looking down at you, he had blood on his shirt and you couldn’t look away from it. Frankie’s face was still impassive, only a slight frown, as he asked you again if you were hurt. You stared back at him, pulling your eyes away from the blood, it was on his skin too. Suddenly, severely aware of how little you knew Frankie, you pulled away from him, scared of the man in front of you, of the violence he’d shown.
Who could be that violent?
Who would punch a man so hard he didn’t get up again?
You’d stammered something, telling him you needed to think, to not follow you, seeing the shock on Frankie’s face turn to despair as you backed away, his hands still on your arms, slowly letting go. Turning your back on him you heard him speak your name but you ignored it, the adrenaline in your system was spiking, making your hands shake and your legs move quickly.
You hold it together in the Uber home but now you’re on the floor of your hallway, sobbing at the unfairness of everything.

I'm sorry about all the gross hate you receive, it's ridiculous. But I thought maybe you'd like a little bit from when I went to my friend's Bar Mitzvah many a year ago. Rabbi was super sweet and a bit awkward old dude, and when we finished up he didn't really know what to say so he was like "we're done...uh.. yippee-ki-yay..." And my friends grandma heckled "SAY IT IN HEBREW" AND WITHOUT SKIPPING A BEAT HE YELLS "YIPPEE-CHI-YAY" with the absolute /thickest/ CH and yeah he was awesome :3 I hope you have a good day regardless of the awful anons
THIS IS AMAZING

Ladybug just barely managed to squeeze through the window of the Liberty without being seen, her groan overtaking the sound of her detransformation. Finding places to hide as Marinette was simple when she could so easily slip out of a group, but when Ladybug got so much attention from everyone, it was nearly impossible to get back to where she was before. As it was, she'd had to use her aqua powers to hide in the water until she was sure it was safe to leap into the Liberty.
Maybe I should start carrying the mouse, she thought, slapping her cheeks to try and snap herself back into focus. Her mind whirled as she tried to remember what her excuse had been so she could follow up on it.
She was pretty sure it’d been snacks; she’d told everyone that she was heading downstairs to get snacks and drinks for them.
Heading over to the door leading to the deck, she opened it back up and hurried to grab some trays to put snacks on. Fumbling to gather things to make up for the time she was away, she tried not to get distracted by the conversation she could faintly hear up on deck.
"Haven't you wanted to change your look? It's been months now," came Mylene's voice. "Those costumes are starting to get old. I don't know about everyone else's, but Ivan's is starting to get beat up."
Marinette froze. Even without hearing the specific words, she knew they were talking about Kitty Section's costumes.
"We could ask Marinette to fix them up?" Rose suggested.
Alya dismissed the idea. "She's been busy all week! There's no way."
She wasn't wrong. Marinette tensed, already thinking about what'd just happened. She was living three lives - Marinette, Ladybug, and now the guardian - so it was only logical that she couldn't keep up.
"Oh," Zoe piped up. "If it's the costumes, I could find someone who's worked with real bands before on costumes? You could get a designer who could make something that'd last for a long time."
"Really? That's right, you even know the mayor!"
"That'd be awesome!"
"As long as you don't let Chloe hear, okay?"
Marinette fidgeted with the tray, hating the fact that a familiar jealousy was stirring in her chest. She and Zoe were friends, with Marinette being the one who vouched for her in the first place, so she had no one to blame but herself. Zoe was a great person: she was friendly, not awkward, and was even building a better relationship with the mayor of Paris. Anyone would want her company and Marinette couldn't compete with that.
It was inevitable that the costumes could get worn or damaged too, even by accident. She breathed up, steeling herself for the topic as she took the trays of snacks and started heading up to the deck.
Then, she heard Luka chime in, "They're Marinette's designs. We worked on them together and those two weeks are a verse I never want to forget."
"You don't have to throw the costumes away or anything," Alix interjected, confused by the emotional weight behind the words. "You'll just have new designs."
He paused, then directed his voice elsewhere as he asked, "What do you guys think?"
Some hums sounded amongst the rest of Kitty Section, Rose speaking up first to say, "New designs just mean we have more designs, right?"
Ivan added on, unsure, "I thought it was cool of Marinette to make these for us. It's kinda hard finding stuff that fits me."
"Mm," Juleka hummed noncommittally. "I like the worn look..."
"I guess it would be up to the band," Mylene pointed out. "Maybe we could vote yay or nay?"
"We're not getting anywhere like this," Alya countered. "All I'm saying is that it'll just put pressure on—"
By that point, Marinette had already stepped into view with the trays. She'd taken time and focus so as to not topple anything by accident, but was still wholly aware of the conversations. All eyes darted to her and it was difficult to tell who felt awkward and who was simply waiting for her to speak.
Keeping her expression as flat as possible, she went over to the nearest table and set the trays down. Standing straight to face everyone, she told them, "It's like Alya said: I'm busy. I'm not reliable enough to make repairs or new ones either, so..." She shrugged as casually as she could. "Those designs were made on a time crunch anyway, and I want you guys to have the best."
"See?" Alya gestured at Marinette whilst looking at Luka. "She thinks so too."
Having just been Ladybug a few minutes ago, Marinette had already had more than enough attention for the day. Preferring not to involve herself further, she turned on her heel and started heading back below deck, leaving Zoe free to use her connections without guilt of her watching.
"Marine—" Luka called behind her, but stopped short. She heard his footsteps follow after hers, but didn't discourage him and continued walking.
As she re-entered the lounge room, she went straight for the couch; not around, but straight ahead for the backrest. Putting her hands on top, she hefted herself over and plopped down onto the cushions, allowing her to lay back and stare up at the ceiling. A click of the door followed and Luka's face soon hovered over her from above the backrest.
"I'm sorry," he said.
"Why? You were trying to defend me."
He put his forearms up on the couch, allowing him to lean forward more. "You're part of the band too, to me. I shouldn't've said anything without you there."
"You don't believe me." It wasn't a question.
"I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something deeper to it."
As deep as a bottomless pit, Marinette lamented, wanting to scream but not having the voice to. Instead, she waved her arms about and continued to insist, "Look, I really am busier than when I made you those outfits! That's why we we couldn't date!"
His eyes widened at that, and it took her a moment to realize why: she hadn't specified that part when they'd broken up. She'd been tired, emotionally drained, and not thinking particularly clearly at the time, so the actual reasoning had been left out.
"When you're ready, I'll be here, Marinette," was what he'd said then, but the actual timeline after the fact was a little fuzzy for some reason. She guessed it was also related to her exhaustion.
She sat up to be closer to him, talking again before she could think further on it, "I'd feel awful if Kitty Section had to keep holding itself back because I don't have the energy for it, okay? You guys need new costumes and Zoe is the best for the job, so don't do this for me—"
"Zoe?" Luka's brows drew together in puzzlement.
"...Yes?" She tilted her head, equally confused by his response. "She's the one who offered. She has connections that I don't."
He shook his head. "That's not it. She's not the best for the job, she's just finding someone else to do it."
Marinette stopped halfway to a reply, having been caught in her mindset. Either he was that observant or she was extremely transparent about it. She planted her soles on the floor, turning so that her back faced him.
Luka walked around the couch to sit next to her, keeping a careful distance but being close enough for them to talk comfortably with each other. "Zoe can't do what you do, Marinette." Then, thoughtful, he assured, "But we don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."
Except that was just the thing. She wanted to - always wanted to - yet there were never-ending obstacles to that. Everything she said had to be carefully calculated or she'd run the risk of causing everyone more trouble, but sometimes the choice would just be taken from her anyway if she waited too long. It was a tightrope walk of balancing words she should say with words that she shouldn't.
And she wanted off.
"I—" She grit her teeth, hands gripping the fabric of her capris. "It's not... it's not about what she can do. It's about what she doesn't have to. She doesn't have to worry about a packed schedule, or dealing with responsibilities she didn't ask for, or making time to do something for a friend because she can find someone else to do it."
Luka let out a hum of acknowledgment. She saw his hand reach over out of the corner of her eye, hovering silently over her hand closest to him. When she didn't pull back or express displeasure, his hand dropped onto hers and squeezed.
"There's nothing wrong with being jealous," he told her.
Stiffening, she pulled away from him on the couch and stood back up, arguing, "But there is! Zoe hasn't done anything wrong and I'm not allowed to want you after what happened, especially not when she's just a better me!"
"...What?"
She groaned, messing up her own bangs just so she could fix them again. "A better me. She was bullied too, but she's not—she's not like me. No one teases her or makes fun of her for what she does, but I'm such a disaster with everything that—"
"You want me?" he clarified.
Marinette met his gaze, having thought that was obvious from having told him why she'd had to break up with him. "Yeah? Who wouldn't?" Paying no mind to the blush that appeared on his face, she continued to throw her arms out and vent, "But I don't make people happy! I don't fit! Zoe doesn't get upset like I do, she doesn't have to run off all the time, and she doesn't make people argue over costumes since she's not the one who makes them anyway!"
She couldn't even look at Luka anymore, too ashamed to face him directly. She couldn't recall how she'd made the connection between her own issues and Zoe's, but finding out that she was jealous was another matter. It took time to properly recognize the feeling, but only because her initial experiences with jealousy were different.
Specifically, with Adrien. Whenever it came to seeing other girls around him, she'd wanted to interfere, to stop it at all costs. The exception had been Kagami at times, but due to a mixture of guilt and a desire not to lose her friendship with someone who'd openly told her (openly told Ladybug) that she prioritized pursuing Adrien over said friendship.
With Luka though, she'd never felt any rivalry or animosity towards anyone she deemed a "better fit" for him, and she never thought to act out on it. While Zoe had never made attempts to go after Luka herself, Marinette imagined it was only a matter of time if Zoe was indeed a better her, and she'd find it hard to complain if it ended up working out.
The difference in her states of jealousy was obvious: one was an obsession - "eyes on the prize," so to speak - while the other was a genuine love and desire to see the person she loved be happy. It hurt thinking about how it would all end regardless, but she was prepared to face it.
"...Marinette," Luka began slowly, still piecing his words together. He inhaled, exhaled, then finally said, "You can't decide that."
She faltered, scared to look at him directly in case she had an unpleasant expression on, but too confused not to do something. She turned her head just enough to peek at him through her bangs.
He continued without her asking directly, "No one makes me happy the way you do. Not Zoe, not anyone. You can't decide who fits me best just like everyone else can't decide what to do about the costumes without hearing you out first."
"But..." She shook her head despondently. "It was a nightmare dating me? I don't want you to want me if it'll just lead to that."
"What if you're the musician?"
That got her to look at him, in sheer befuddlement if nothing else. She'd registered the oncoming metaphor, but still failed to follow it to its conclusion. "What do you mean?"
"What if you're the musician, and I'm the guitar you had to stop playing because the music didn't sound right?" He put his hands in place to act as if there was a guitar in his lap. "Then you see a newer, fancier guitar that comes with all sorts of accessories, and everyone thinks you'd look great with it."
She gaped, horrified by the thought. "I-I wouldn't want that!" She sat down next to him again, huffing. "Just because it's new and fancy doesn't mean it'd work for me, and I already have memories with the guitar I have now! Maybe the music didn't work but—"
Something clicked. Luka must've seen it in her expression too, his frown making way for a smile instead.
"...There's nothing wrong with the instrument," she finished quietly.
He nodded. "Yeah. It was bad timing. Even the best musicians can get the timing wrong when it matters."
Sliding closer to her as she'd done earlier to him, he gripped her shoulders and pulled her into a tight hug. Marinette gasped sharply, suddenly surrounded by warmth when she'd felt so cold before. It really was as if he'd never let her go so long as she didn't move.
Whispering so as to not break the moment, Luka questioned, "Do you know what it was about my dad?"
She gripped onto whatever fabric was nearest to her, uttering a soft, "M-mm?" in response.
"I know he left, and it hurt me, but he came back in the end. He wanted to make it up to me. He could've decided that I wasn't worth it, or that he still wasn't interested in being around me, but he didn't." He rubbed her back, seeking to soothe her. "I believe in second chances, and if someone wants to ask me for one, then it's my choice to let them back in. I'm choosing you, Marinette."
She blinked rapidly, feeling potential tears coming on. While reluctant to pull apart from him, she broke the hug momentarily to see his face again. The temptation to jump on the offer was strong, but she admitted, "I...I don't know how to convince myself that it's okay."
"I can show you," he offered. "We'll take it at whatever pace you want, and I'll show you that it's okay."
Her eyes give him the answer before her mouth did, her body stunned still by the gesture. She'd really thought that she'd lost him for good and that there wasn't any hope left, but he stuck with her anyway.
She wanted to kiss him in gratitude, but it didn't happen right away. The close contact made it easy for her to let her hands wander, fingertips trailing across the bare skin of his forearms. Luka accepted all of it, reciprocating by touching her face and feeling along her cheekbones as if he hadn't already memorized every centimeter of them.
They were the kinds of touches that she'd - that they'd - wanted since they got together in the first place, but never did. They're gentle yet eager, tentative yet meaningful.
The kiss followed afterward, somewhat clumsy when their noses bumped, but they weren't deterred from continuing. They held each other, relishing in the contact they hadn't gotten to have the first time they'd attempted it at the cinema. Even the soft 'click' as they pulled apart became ingrained in Marinette's memory as something special.
Luka touched his lips with his fingertips, feeling along the surface, but stopped to point out, "You've been worrying about me this whole time."
"H-hm?" She also had to stop herself from touching her lips to reply.
"What about you?" he prompted, staring at her directly. "How do you feel?"
Her lips quivered, but she was smiling. Knowing that he knew the answer already, she threw her arms around him to return his hug from earlier.
She felt happy. She felt like she could safely talk to him about things without fear or repercussions. She felt the weight of the world lift off her shoulders, even if it was only for a moment.
Most importantly, she felt loved.

Professor Belle
Tumblr media
Belle: Félix, can I go with you to the excavation site tomorrow?
Félix: Of course, but I'll need you to stay with me the whole time. I have a new group of students, and they'll need to focus. I don't want them thinking they have to babysit you.
Belle: No one has to babysit me. I'm a member of the research team. Right?
Félix: Yes, but the students might be skeptical of that. Not every person your age is as responsible and intelligent as you, and unfortunately, some people have a tendency to prejudge.
Belle: Well, that’s just dumb.
Davian: *laughing* It's good to know the youngest member of the research team can still act like a ten year old.
Belle: I'm responsible and intelligent, but nobody said I was a grownup.
Davian: Fair point.
Félix: But you are mature, and we can trust you. That's why you're allowed to come to the excavation site.
Belle: Yeah. Can you imagine my friends at the site? Junior would probably break stuff, and you'd always have to be getting Caroline down from a tree or something. I know I should only climb trees around the field station.
Davian: We'd be happier if you didn't climb trees anywhere, but you know the risks, so...
Belle: Evaluate my choices, right?
Davian: Right.
Belle: I'll be too busy to climb trees tomorrow anyway. I have discoveries to make and students to teach.
Félix: Oh? Are you taking over for me, Professor Belle?
Davian: She probably can teach them something, you know. She's already got more archaeological experience than they do.
Félix: I'll tell you what, Belle. Why don't I let you have a few minutes to instruct the students tomorrow? You can be my assistant. We'll practice this evening so you'll know what you want to say when the time comes.
Tumblr media
Belle: Yay! I'm going to be the best assistant you've ever had, I promise!
Félix: I have no doubt.
Belle: So, if I'm going to the site tomorrow and I'm going to be busy all day, does that mean I can skip my math lesson?
Davian: No. It means you'll have to do extra lessons the day after. Just because you're in the rainforest and you're learning cool stuff that isn't in your school books, that doesn't mean you get to ignore them. Remember, there's still going to be a test.
Belle: So, I guess the right choice would be to get ready for the test. I just wish I liked math more.
Félix: It's okay if you don't like it. Nobody can force you to like things. I'm not friends with math either, and when I was your age I was much happier following my father all around Al-Simhara and making discoveries with him. But I had to study math as well, because I needed it to graduate high school and get into university.
Belle: I'm going to university some day. I guess that means I have to be nice to math, even if we're not friends.
Félix: Be nice to math and it'll be nice to you.
Belle: *giggling* By helping me get into university?
Félix: Exactly so.
Belle: I can live with that.
Tumblr media
Davian: Now that we've got that settled, how about we do a little exploring before dinner? I'll bet we can find some awesome butterflies if we take that trail over there. Check out all the flowers. I hear tropical butterflies love those.
Belle: Yes! Félix, can Davian and I borrow your camera? I want to take pictures if we see any butterflies. Then I can identify them and write a paragraph for my science journal.
Félix: That sounds like a good idea. While you and Davian are out butterfly hunting, I'm going to catch up with Dr. Santiago. I'll see the two of you at dinner at the field station.
Davian: Sounds good.
Belle: If we find any butterflies, we'll tell you all about it!
Félix: I can hardly wait. Good luck.
Belle: I think it's more about scientific methodology than luck.
Félix: *smiling* In that case... good scientific methodology, Professor Belle. I await your report on your findings.
