some red flags to look out for before sharing donation posts/donating:

new blog, or a couple years old but has only a few random, sporadic posts

backdated posts

spamming asks to a lot of other users, even the ones they don't know or have just followed, and even when the user has made it clear they don't want to receive requests to boost dono posts

is asking you to answer their asks privately, or is sending you a message directly

is straight up asking you for money, and usually for impossibly large amounts

do not put their paypal/money transfer links on their post itself, usually claiming it's to protect their 'privacy'

is using Zelle for their money transfer account, especially if the person is claiming to be in Palestine

please don't be so quick to entertain donation requests and to give away your money, especially if the user ticks a lot of these boxes. if you are familiar with the place they say they are from or the language they are supposed to speak, try conversing with them for a bit to see if their claims would hold. you can also browse my 'donation scam' tag or kyra45's blog to compare if the user has any similarities with past scammers that we've discovered.

that's it po. let's all try our best to look out for each other and make sure that our resources are going to the actual people in need, especially in the case of Palestinians asking for help. the last thing they need right now is for shitty lowlifes to use their suffering to make a profit.

Hey, everybody. I'll try to make this quick. In case you haven't heard, I'm dealing with a broken tooth that I need to get extracted as soon as possible. Well, given my dad's mental health issues, we don't have an income right now, which prevents me from getting not only that, but also any sort of healthcare. In addition to that, I suspect I might be dealing with some sort of gynecological condition that I won't detail here (but you can ask me if you want) and I need to get checked as soon as possible, since there is a long history of issues in the women of my family.

So I'm asking for donations through either ko-fi or Paypal (you can ask me privately through PM). I hate to do this, but I'm afraid is my only hope. Besides, my dad requires lots of constant medication we can't afford. So any help will be well-received, even if it's just a single dollar.

my process for dming:

since ren is an spn blogger i’ve mostly been asking other fandom blogs to share the post. i don’t have many mutuals or followers so i just dm blogs from the notes of viral posts. if you know any individuals with bigger platforms who would be willing to promote the request that’s also super helpful !!

i share the post and copy and paste some variation of this message to 4-5 blogs at a time: “hey sorry to bother u, i was wondering if u could rb my friend’s mutual aid request? i’m just messaging a bunch of spn blogs to get some visibility. hope u have a good day!! (and thanks if you already rbed, i’m just reaching out to as many blogs as possible :)”

in my opinion, personal messages form personal connections to the crowdfund request so people are more likely to share/donate if they know they can trust the request. and i say thank you if they respond!

i hope this post gets some attention, i was able to dm dozens of blogs previously but i’ve been struggling with mental health and my own crowdfunding and i haven’t been able to do as much outreach for ren as i want. it would help a lot to have more hands on deck.

it might feel a little intimidating to dm people like this but most people have been really understanding and kind !! if they don’t feel comfortable reblogging it they can just ignore it. any kind of visibility is good for traction. and any contribution matters!! if we could start another donation chain and encourage followers to match our donations that would be awesome. please rb !

Hello. My name is Mohammed, and even though we have never met I want to start my story by simply saying I am grateful that you are reading this.

I need your help.

I have a dream I worked so hard to achieve. A dream that is almost impossible for most people in my situation, but a dream that I truly believed I could achieve. I want to be a doctor.

I know what you are thinking, anyone can “want” to be a doctor but my circumstances are a little different. I am a sixth year medical student at Azhar University in Gaza. I was supposed to graduate THIS year. 2024 was supposed to be the year my dream came true. The finish line was so close and I could taste it. It was what I dreamed about. Now, I dream about finding enough food for my family to eat.

Gaza is a wasteland and I no longer have a home.

I was raised in the Al-Rimal neighborhood and I have to admit life was hard before Oct. 7th but my family was happy. It’s hard for me to write this because I didn’t know that my family home would be blown to pieces and I would go from a medical student to a displaced person fleeing certain doom.

Since Oct. 7th my family and I have been displaced three times. With me are my parents, sister and elderly grandparents. I know as a man who is young and healthy I have some responsibility to take care of my family members who are sick and elderly and I am doing the best I can to get them water, food, and medical supplies. I’ve never seen my grandmother so scared and I watch helplessly as though around me lose hope.

Every time we were displaced our situation got worse. More people would join us, distant relatives, strangers. Gaza was once considered one of the most densely populated areas in the world. The constant bombardment has made it even more so.

My family and I are now at the Rafah border. We sleep in a room in an abandoned apartment with sixty other people. There is no running water. No heat or electricity. The people around me are sick and there is nothing I can do, and yet we are considered lucky. We are not outside in the cold. The border has less bombing then other parts of Gaza.

The sick are afraid to go to the hospital, and truthfully there are so few hospitals left and the journey is so treacherous that the trip might kill you before the illness does.

My dream has changed. I just want to live. I want my family to live. I urgently need to get out of Gaza with my family. Your help means that I will be able to complete my education. Your help means that you are the reason I am alive despite all the bombing around me. I don’t want to die in this war. I want to continue my career in medicine and become a doctor.

I want to help my people. Gaza’s health services have stopped due to the war. That was always my goal and now I want it more than ever.

I do not have dual-citizenship so the only way for my family and I to leave Gaza is to Pay over ten thousand dollars for each member of my family to cross the border.

Help me to complete my dream and get out. I want to have the skill to come back and heal Gaza. I want to save my family. Although it breaks my heart to leave. I have no other options. I need your help. Please donate what you can and help save a life. It seems insurmountable but every single donation no matter how large or small gives me hope. Okay so I’m joining solitary of the strike curtesy to Bisan from 21st to 28th for Palestine as they are actively in need of our help, i advice all to do the same. But I see an alerting thing that I need to address rn. To spread awareness and to make sure my mutuals/followers don’t fall victim into this.

So there even donation scams going around this app, such as:

I’ve saw two more of these, one of me was posing as a Palestinian Mother with two kids whilst the other claimed to need money for their lungs. Now I wish I had these screenshots to prove my claims but at the time I wasn’t sure if I was going crazy or was the only one having this gut feeling. But today, I realize this has been an alarming thing. This just happen to me, and I’m finding out, this is how they’ll get you:

Typically, they’re use your AMA to ask for donation, whether it on their animal, children, etc that require their donation usually by PayPal. Another is that, they’ll randomly follow you and immediately use the AMA to try to get you to either donate to them or signal boost their donation. Usually their story will be a copy paste as it more than just one. This situation is truly worse than p*rnbots. And frankly it absolutely disgusting.

If you want more proof other than the proof I just showed above, go search on Donation Scam and you’ll see many of these scammers. Here are one I can provide as there more than one incident where this happen:

Now to try to prevent this from happening I will link also a blog that goes in depth on how to prevent something like this from happen to you ghost pals or your mutuals or followers so they don’t fall victim into this:

What can I tell you, my mutuals and followers is that, please report them and block them is this does happen to you.

“But what if they’re being truthful”

I wish I can tell you, but the sad truth, it can be tricky because it the internet, as much as it a place to connect, it can also be a place to deceive you. So the best advice as I can tell you is be on your P’s and Q’s. Because years ago I was scammed and hacked for trusting a source I thought was factual. So I don’t want that to happen to you Ghostly Pals. And for my mutuals/friends, please be careful. 🩶 but I do have an advice, save their photo and run it by a photo finder I personally use TinEye and see if the image have been posted anyway, but if you have another you prefer even better:

Originally I was gonna make a post about boundary regarding the AMA but now that I see this have been a new scam running rampant on tumblr, I can’t keep my mouth shut about this and I need to let this be known. But I will still say, please only use my AMA for asking questions or telling me things whether it’s Good omens related or whatever. Please don’t use it to ask for donations like what these scammers are doing. I hope this doesn’t make me sound like an asshole but I just want to be safe. Until then please spread this around, make this known. Please.

I sent Laura money a few times and helped buy groceries. I also did commissions to send money to her and boosted her posts. My gf also sent money, as did some of my friends. My gf and I sent in total I think around $400-500 usd? Not sure about my friends but I know they definitely helped out. When I realised she was a scammer, I tried warning people but got told I was being racist for accusing her, despite being asian myself. There were a handful of larger blogs that were actively defending her and promoting her posts (not blaming them to be clear) and it felt a bit hopeless trying to warn people when Laura had done such a good job convicing them that she was the victim of misunderstandings and unwarranted suspicion. She's a very good liar, and is excellent at weaponising her son as well as the genuinely hard conditions a lot of people experience in the Philllipines. It's honestly a big relief to finally have more people coming forward with their experiences so that there's less chance of her exploiting people anymore. I doubt she'll stop scamming here, but I hope blogs like this one will help give people the tools and literacy to spot donation scams.

Fortunately, I also don’t hold any blame against those who defended her. It wouldn’t be right since they didn’t know she was scamming but it’s unfortunate that you was called a racist just for trying to alert others of what was happening. Unfortunately by the time truth came out, she had already got a lot of money.

And I hope so too. Most of the resources for scam spotting weren’t around back then and we didn’t have many blogs still around for documenting scams. Laura is likely friends with most of the newest scammers, but this is only going by gathered evidence showing similarities in the past and present.

I’m also glad more users are coming forward with their experiences just so others can see what all went down and what’s been going on. I know some don’t want to be seen publicly so that’s why I offer the chance to tell their tale on anonymous so it’s still heard. I hope you eventually made they money back.

Queer Couple's Home Flooded! Legal & Repair Fund on GoFundMe

Hey everyone, we could really use your help. It's taken me a long time to be able to write this and post this, not because I didn't want to, but because it's so difficult to think through everything that happened in this terrible situation to be able to explain it. No one in this house is very healthy after what happened. I will update with a photo and video when my husband ( @mysterious-dark-shadow ) is awake. I just really wanted to finally get this up. I am really worried for us. Please signal boost and please donate if you can. Text from the fundraiser that explains our situation is below the cut.

My husband and I, and our three cats, are being sued by a construction company after the company left our toilet on the balcony of our house and still claimed they'd completed all the remodeling work. We need a legal fund, and that's what this here is all about.

What happened? In early spring our house's plumbing flooded part of our house with sewage water, requiring us to move out for a few months and live in a hotel room with our three cats. After we moved back in around late May, we got very sick and found one thing after another wrong with the house that the contractors should have fixed, and sometimes didn't notify us were broken. Our house has no hot water because the hot water heater was left leaking so bad it's inoperable. The electric system was overloaded by the water heater arcing into it and we don't have working stoves. The washing machine and dryer were left unhooked by the contractors and until we have an electrician (which we have to be able to afford) look at them we don't want to risk what they'll do to the electric breaker box. So we've been having to rely on a laundromat to do laundry all this time as well. The house feels filthy and disgusting and everyone in it is depressed.

But that wasn't the worst part. The worst part is that since they left a big open sewer hole in our bathroom instead of installing the toilet, when we first moved in we got sick from the sewer gas coming out of it. The sewer gas contains methane (natural gas), which can't kill you, but it can make you very sick and give you hallucinations. I am still mentally recovering from this. I have not been able to write this fundraising description for a long time because I am still so messed up from everything that happened and all the things I saw that weren't real, the experiences I had that were awful and just felt like I was in the upside-down. My husband suffered similar effects and is still recovering as well. Because of this it's been really hard to talk to other people about what happened and to clearly ask for help.

Since we moved back in we've been fending off the construction company who was immediately demanding the rest of payment for a job they left incomplete, then suing us using a lien they'd placed on the property. If we lose the suit, our house could be foreclosed upon to pay off the amount of the lien. It has been a very difficult situation to defend legally because it took some time before we could find a lawyer willing to defend us in the suit because the amount the contractors are suing for (lowish five figure amount) is too low for most lawyers to find desireable, and also, it's just hard to find a lawyer if you're not rich. If we win the suit, then we can get the construction company to pay our legal fees... but we have to GET there, and the actual case hearing is all the way in February.

We could really use some help when it comes to this. I'm disabled and my husband's job is close to minimum wage. We were already struggling as a household before all this happened and we've been trying for almost an entire year to try and make things work. Our families have been extremely unsupportive of us as a gay trans couple and so we have very few people to ask for help. We've been trying to do what we can to make extra money, but it's been really hard to get the hustle out when neither of us have had a real shower or bath in over two months. Also, our insurance company, who suggested the contractor in the first place, has been of very little help and has been adding red tape in the way of getting proper reimbursement for everything that happened and everything that was lost.

I'll be honest, what I want most is to be able to buy my husband a Christmas present this holiday season, even a small one, because we really just don't have enough for that. We don't have enough for hardly anything and we're being forced to fight this battle that makes no sense. So please if you have it to spare this season, help us keep our house, our cats, our marriage, and our sanity.

Introduced in Chapter 6 my Atlesian Superman AU. This version of Yang is one filled with rage, one who has been following Raven the Pirate God around despite absolutely hating her. She wouldn't even call her mother, instead only by her first name. At least, that was the case until the Atlesian Superman Weiss Schnee destroyed Raven's fleet, cutting off Raven's right arm, and arrested her (Raven did manage to escape later on). This enraged her, now obsessed with trying to get revenge in the name of Raven. She hates Raven, but she just can't help it. It's as if she's still clinging on hope that they could one day reconcile. And the main target of Yang's rage is the Atlas Empire, especially the Superman who invaded and took over Vale 5 years ago. Yang blames Atlas for breaking up their family and country. Their father has passed away. Qrow isn't on the best term with Yang, resentful with the angry way she left the family, leaving Ruby behind to pursue his "bastard of a sister" as he calls her. Yang still loves Ruby, but she feels helpless and doesn't know what to do, doesn't quite know how to be a surrogate mother. So she lashes out at the world around, thinking that since Atlas has invaded they no longer have a home in Vale, so she left, foolishly thinking Ruby would be better off without her around. But the truth is she's lost, angry, and needs help.

I hate doing this, but I need help

Some of you might know my dad is mentally ill. He tried to take his own life a couple times this year and now he's not going to work while they regulate his medication. His company usually gives us money to help us go by, though is rarely enough to support a family of three. That's why I'm always asking for donations or people to commission me.

Today they were supposed to gives us a small check, but they decided to move it to Friday. No one told us until this morning, so we couldn't manage our money better to make it for two more days. We have run out of food. My dad can't take his meds on an empty stomach and I'm getting lightheaded, since I haven't gotten a meal since last night. I also got an ED, so it's extremely important that I eat no matter what.

Please, anything you can send us will help. I'm trying to get a job, but it's not easy, since my health isn't the best. I don't know how I'm going to survive, I'm extremely weak right now. The Strathmore Municipal Library and Happy Cat Sanctuary hosted Strathmore’s first ever cat cafe last Saturday!

Debbie Jensen with the Happy Cat Sanctuary said the event was wonderful, as more than 200 people showed up and 8 cats were adopted! On top of that, $230 was raised in donations for the sanctuary. Jensen was especially happy to see how much everyone enjoyed the cafe, including the cats!

“People just love the cats, and the cats love the people, so it’s fun. I was so proud of all the parents because all the kids that came in were very gentle with the cats, which is nice.,” Jensen said.

Cat cafes are a great way to spend time with our feline friends, even if you can’t take one back home with you. Jensen said some people had the opportunity to enjoy a cat’s company when they normally couldn’t, and moments like that make it all worth it.

“There was a lady and her kids there who love cats but her husband is very allergic, so they got to come down there and play with the cats and spend some time with them. So it’s nice that people that can’t have a cat can come down and visit the cats.”

Assistant Director of Library Services Carmen Erison explained the cafe would not have been possible without the Town of Strathmore’s help and funding. Through Strathmore FCSS, the cafe was funded by the rural mental health project grant, which provided all the food and drinks. the Town and FCSS also worked with the library to provide other necessities for the cafe, like the racks. Erison explained the mental health grant was put to good use, as cat cafes are a great way to improve mental health.

“The cat cafe was a great program because it allowed other cat lovers to meet each other, get to know each other, and working with animals is also a big boost for mental health. So that was what made the cat cafe not only a great event for the Happy Cat Sanctuary where they were able to pull in some donations and get cats adopted out, but also be able to provide a space where people can come enjoy and just have a lot of fun with other cats,” Erison said.

The event was such a great success that it will be coming back in January! There is no specific date yet, but Erison said they will try to bring the cafe back two more times before the rural mental health project grant runs out in March. Even after the grant runs out, it’s possible we could see the cafe return, although it could be a paid event since the library would have to cover the costs of food, drinks, cleaning supplies, and other necessities.

“Once the grant funding is over, I think that (paid entry) is something that we would consider. The one thing that we have to consider, especially when we’re running events like this, is health and safety. So we wanted to make sure that no food was inside the cat area, and when you are selling food, you also have to be very considerate about what you’re selling. We have to make sure that we follow proper health and safety guidelines and those other things,” Erison said.

With the cat cafe set to return, you’ll have a couple more opportunities to spend time with plenty of happy cats at the library! If one cat especially gets your attention, you could even adopt one.

Now maybe it’s tokenistic,.. maybe tumblr doesn’t have as much media presence as Twitter or Instagram..

But where fucking else on the internet or on major social media platforms do you have Black Lives Matter be pinned as number 1 on trending for the past 9-10 fucking months??

And now I believe they’ve done the same for Stop Asian Hate?

Some people may say it’s an empty gesture but if you’re wanting information or resources or just wanna keep up to date with what progress (or lack thereof) has been made, in either mission, then it’s right. Fucking. There.

And those all lives matter, racist, bigoted motherfuckers out there that are trying to suggest that only one of the movements can exist at a time or are in any way in competition with each other and therefore cannot support each other, you are gonna have to shut your fucking mouth and get the fuck away from my blog because you don’t deserve to be here unless you manage to pull your head outta your ass, educate yourself and do the right thing.

Black Lives Matter and Stop Asian Hate are fighting their specific fights. There is no denying that. But their message is the same.

We deserve to live without persecution or fear because of our skin and/or where we come from.

As someone who is AAPI, but not living in America, just wanna make it clear.

hi everyone. as many of my followers probably know, this year my sister, who has severe mental and physical health issues and fell into a very terrifying state of psychosis for many weeks, was detained by police and spent several weeks in jail. she then went through two different mental health facilities (one of which was abusive) over the course of a couple of months and is now recovering from the months of trauma she just went through. i explained the situation in my detail in my old posts; i was able to find one update from may but i know i posted many since .. idk where they are bc i didnt tag them.

many people on tumblr were generous and it touched my heart and soul and made such a difference during the most dark period our family has experienced. i will never be able to thank each of you, but i swear i will continue to pay it forward and help people however i can throughout the rest of my life.

i have to ask one last time, because i am extremely desperate and don’t know what else to do. i am selling off any items i have, my dad is selling anything he can too, (including his house but that takes time,) and we both are working more than full time to try and pay the legal bills for my sister. praise god that my sister is now well enough and has also gotten a job now, but it does not start for another couple of weeks. here is the issue: my sister’s court case is starting now. her attorney (who we had to choose because of the mental health component) is requiring $3,000 this week in order to represent her. i am absolutely doing everything i can to get her the money, but i can’t even afford to buy groceries right now or pay for transit to work. my dad and i are still in debt from paying her during the prefiling of the charges and all my credit cards are maxed out. the last option we have is to pawn my mother’s wedding ring, but we just lost her in april and the thought of losing my last physical connection to her makes me so sick i immediately break down. i dont want to share this information publicly and it is making me really ashamed, but if i can even get a little bit of help here one more time it will help more than i can ever express. so i am sucking down my pride.

again, this is the last time we will need help. after this case goes through, my sister should be able to do a mental health diversion program instead of going back to jail (NONE of the things she did during her mental episode were violent, no weapons were involved, she did not harm anyone nor was even accused of harming anyone, but i cant discuss since it is an ongoing legal matter.) however, we need the money to pay the attorney in order to move forward and give her the future she has always worked hard for. every last penny donated will be used solely for my sister’s legal fees.

Hey y'all with April on the horizon I need to ask the tsc fandom a favour.

Please don't make autism appreciation day about Ty.

There are real life autistics who need help. If you could just try and signal boost content from autistic creators or even donate to asan or Autistic women's and nonbinary network that would be super helpful. I don't really want to see allistics fawning over a fictional autistic character to show me their support. I'm sorry but that's kind of useless in the grand scheme of things.

And I'm not saying that representation is useless. I'm saying that sometimes in certain situations we need different things. On April 2nd we kinda need you to prove that you care about us irl. Especially since last year so many people in the fandom engaged in such blindingly tone deaf and ableist behavior on the day.

There were people making drawings with puzzle peices, writing cliche and stereotypical fanfics and even making cringy ass allistic savior like posts that maybe were supposed to be supportive but just triggered a lot of people.

I spent a day that is supposed to be for me angry and upset. I don't want to do that again.
