I don't like conservative "news" media like fox and this site but no one else is talking about how surrogacy gives pedos access to kids.
The fertility industry is handing designer babies over to men with zero vetting or scrutiny of their mental fitness or criminal history.
By KATY FAUST
Surrogacy is risky for children. Not just the risk of a primal wound via intentional birth mother separation. Not just the risk of identity struggles if their genetic mother is purchased from a catalog. Not just the risk of mother-hunger if they are raised in a home absent maternal love.
Surrogacy puts children at risk for the worst kinds of abuse.
That became glaringly obvious last month when YouTubers Shane Dawson and partner Ryan Adams announced the birth of twin boys. Dawson’s long history of sexualizing children is well-known and well-documented. Evie magazine detailed concerning incidents including Dawson pretending to masturbate while watching 11-year-old Willow Smith’s music video, referring to a 6-year-old fan as “kind of sexy,” justifying pedophilia as a mere “fetish,” typing “naked baby” in a child pornography search and remarking that the returns were “sexy,” and proclaiming, “I would rape all of you” when viewing a series of photos featuring young girls wearing his merchandise.
In one show, he instructed a 12-year-old to eat a “cocktail weenie” with the recognition that child molesters comprise a significant portion of his audience. Dawson and Adam have another 10 embryos in frozen storage should they decide they want a few more children around the house.
We hope no harm comes to the boys to whom Dawson and Adams have been granted (via surrogacy contract) parental rights. But other surrogate-born children were not so fortunate.
Contrary to what you may think, surrogacy isn’t just about helping infertile couples have babies. When we look at how surrogacy is actually practiced and promoted, we see surrogacy isn’t about babies, it’s about on-demand, designer babies shipped worldwide. And sometimes, those babies are shipped directly to child abusers.
We don’t know the raw numbers because, unlike organ donation, the medical wing of #BigFertility requires no tracking or follow-up of those who avail themselves of their services. (Apparently, there’s more concern about the survival of a kidney than a child.) And unlike adoption, which heavily vets and screens prospective parents and monitors the child post-placement, surrogate-born children are not known to social workers and often disappear across international borders.
Even when safeguards are in place, predators often go to great lengths to acquire children to abuse. In 2022, the country was horrified by the story of a suburban pedophile ring set up by two married men who raped and pimped out their adopted sons.
That children created by a fertility industry with no mechanism (and no desire) to scrutinize intended parents for things like mental fitness, criminal records, or predatory history end up in the homes of dangerous adults should surprise no one.
Absent any kind of record-keeping or follow-up on these children, those of us who reject surrogacy on the grounds that it violates the rights of children, must piece together the risks when stories of child victimization emerge.
These 5 Pedophiles Mail-Ordered Babies
Psychiatrist Jo Erik Brøyn held a high position in Norwegian social services responsible for child protection and was involved in several high-profile cases of child removal. He also acquired two boys through an Indian surrogate. In 2018, police discovered 20 years’ worth of child pornography in his possession — more than 20,000 images and 4,000 hours of videos — depicting child sexual abuse including “boys masturbating each other, fixed/sexualized violence against children, anal sex by men with boys or oral sex of children (including toddlers) on grown men.” He was sentenced to less than two years in prison. Some sources report that the boys have been returned to his care.
An unnamed German pedophile hired a Russian surrogate for €60,000 who birthed the baby in Greece. He then flew the child back to Germany. In 2020, a regional court found him guilty of child abuse and producing and possessing child pornography. His child was a subject of 16 of those cases between the ages of 2 and 3, and the defendant was in possession of 175,000 images of child pornography. He was sentenced to five years in prison. The child was removed from his custody.
In 2013, Mark Newton and Peter Truong were convicted of subjecting their surrogate-born son to “the worst [pedophile] rings … if not the worst ring I’ve ever heard of,” according to one investigator. After paying a Russian surrogate $8,000 to carry the child, the pair began to violate the boy as a newborn.
“The abuse began just days after his birth and over six years the couple traveled the world, offering him up for sex with at least eight men, recording the abuse and uploading the footage to an international syndicate known as the Boy Lovers Network.” Police believe the pair created the boy through surrogacy “for the sole purpose of exploitation.” The child was removed from their custody, and the men are serving decades-long sentences.
During the height of the Indian surrogacy boom, it was revealed that an Israeli sex offender had procured a little girl via surrogacy. Had #BigFertility had any kind of vetting in place or required fingerprinting or simply character references, it would likely have been discovered that the man had spent 18 months in jail for sexually abusing young children under his supervision. The discovery shocked authorities in both India and Israel, but because they couldn’t prove that abuse had yet taken place, there was no ground to remove the girl from his custody. It did however validate India’s decision to ban single men and gay couples, who composed 30-50 percent of intended parents, from the Indian surrogacy market.
In 2014, intended parents Wendy and David Farnell commissioned twin surrogate children in Thailand, then a global hotspot for surrogacy. The little girl, Pipah, was healthy, but the little boy, Gammy, had serious medical issues as well as Down Syndrome. A scandal erupted when the couple took the little girl back to Australia but abandoned Gammy to be raised by the Thai surrogate.
It was then discovered that David had been jailed in the late 1990s for sexually molesting two girls under the age of 10, and was charged, convicted, and sentenced again in 1998 on six counts of indecently dealing with a child under the age of 13. When his criminal record was revealed and investigated, a judge determined there was “a low risk of harm if Pipah stays in that home,” and she remained in the care of Wendy and David until his death in 2020. The “Baby Gammy” case was one of several scandals that prompted the Thai government to ban commercial surrogacy altogether.
Many of the above cases are older, the results of contracts that were drawn up when surrogacy was less common. Since then, the surrogacy industry has grown exponentially with a projected 1,000 percent increase by 2032. In addition, there are entire organizations devoted to delivering custom-ordered babies to men, none of which will have to submit to background checks or fingerprinting. So expect more cases of surrogate-born child exploitation in the coming years.
Whether or not the child ends up abused, whether it’s paid or altruistic, whether it’s traditional or gestational, and regardless of the intended parent’s household composition, surrogacy always violates the rights of the child. It is not a problem that can be solved through regulation. The only way to protect children is to ban surrogacy worldwide.

BLEACH TYBW Anime Cour 2 Booklet: Behind the Scenes [Translation - Part 1]
Translated by @reikorun
Director's Note × Author's Eye
We pick out several points from all 13 episodes (#14 ~ #26) of the second cour. For each point, pay attention to the explanations by Director Tomohisa Taguchi and the perspective of the original creator and general supervisor, Tite Kubo!
Section 1
Start with Yhwach again
1. A baby being held. As that being, raised up by countless hands, grows and opens its eyes, cour 2 "The Separation" begins. (ep. #14)
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
"Let's place the focus on the Sternritter for the second cour", from the early stages, this is what was decided among the staff. On top of that, in order to make a link with the first cour which began with Yhwach reciting the Kaiser Gesang, we thought "let's begin the sequence of events in cour 2 with him as well." In that case, that scene depicting his origin would be appropriate. In the original work, it was drawn in a manner which took a comprehensive view reminiscent of folklore, but I struggled with how to go about creating a similar impression in the anime. As a result, the visual expression became closer to an art film represented through images alone, without the use of any narration or dialogue at all.
A: Tite Kubo
From the moment I laid my eyes on the storyboard for the first time, I had a feeling that it was going to turn out really good. Regarding this scene, there were actually various changes made until we arrived at the final cut, and even the versions we didn't use were very interesting. During the dubbing session, the process of overlapping the collective "Yū, Ha, Vē, Ha" was also enjoyable to listen to.
2. In addition, there was a memorable scene where Yhwach's 'power' was portrayed through a visual representation. This is the scene where a 'shadow' extends from the throne as Yhwach falls asleep, leading to the appearance of Haschwalth. (ep. #18)
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
The portrayal of that shadow was an idea I received from Kubo-sensei. In the original work, we were able to gain an insight into the power of Yhwach as well as the connection between Yhwach and Haschwalth through Haschwalth's words to Uryū, but since there was no concrete depiction in itself for the transfer of power, it lead to discussions where we considered that It would also become an element linking to the subsequent cour, so we thought “let's do that in the anime!”
A: Tite Kubo
At first, the manner in which the shadow emerged looked as if it were surging up from below, but viewing it from a choreography standpoint, I suggested that the shadow itself should appear in a sort of sliding manner, giving the impression that it had some mass to it. The transfer of power occurred while Yhwach was sleeping, so in order to preserve the nuance that the transfer to Haschwalth happened while he was in that state, I also had Haschwalth depicted standing with his eyes slightly lowered.

Section 2
Storytelling
3. In the second cour of 'BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc', the war situation changes moment by moment due to the Sternritter invasion, and the outward appearance of the Soul Society also undergoes transformation. As a free-for-all breaks out in various places where enemies and allies intermingle in a state of chaos, the anime adds a scene where the newly appointed Captain-Commander, Kyōraku Shunsui, issues orders to each soldier. (ep. #14, #18)
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
One component of that is our desire to include explanatory scenes and scenes where the narrative is refreshed so that the audience are not confused by the ever-changing situation of the war. Another component was our desire to depict the organization that is the 'Gotei 13', which includes Kyōraku who became the Captain-Commander, in a renewed light, and these components overlapped seamlessly.
As a result, I think we were able to depict his status as Captain-Commander inherited from Yamaji, as well as his work ethic. In combination with the scene depicted in the original work that evokes the essence of Kyoraku, i.e. the handing over of Soul Tickets to Tatsuki and the others in the Human World, I'm happy if we were able to successfully delve deeper into the characters.
A: Tite Kubo
It was a really nice scene with both the essence of Shunsui and the essence of a Captain-Commander coming through.
4. In addition to Kyōraku, the appearance of the other troops were added, including Vice-Captains. (ep. #16)
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
While the scenario building sessions were moving forward, I realized that I also wanted to depict the Shinigami's point of view as they strive to fight back against the invasion and try to fulfill their duty to the Gotei. Rather than simply portraying the scene, we added a series of shots with the intention of showing the state of the Shinigami who remain unyielding even as the war situation worsens and they are gradually forced into a disadvantageous position.
A: Tite Kubo
Even in a fan service sense, I think the audience enjoyed being able to see a variety of characters in the anime.
5. With regard to the main character, Ichigo, extra scenes have been added, such as the manner in which he received training under Hyôsube Ichibei. (ep. #14 and others)
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
As mentioned earlier, the foundational principle for the second cour is to place the main focus on the Sternritter, while that's true, 'BLEACH' is still the story of Kurosaki Ichigo, isn't it? There were some concerns that the number of episodes in which Ichigo does not appear in the anime may end up feeling longer than it was in the original work, so we came up with the idea of showing what Ichigo is doing at the present time. The knowledge that Ichigo was training at the Soul King Palace is also depicted in the manga, so I speculate that even though Kubo-sensei undoubtedly had a concept and an image in his head, perhaps he deliberately chose not to draw the specifics. We had the privilege of making suggestions and consulting with Kubo-sensei about how we would go about incorporating the event into the story; those scenes were the result. In a sense, it's to be expected, but we were able to receive a tremendous amount of material from Kubo-sensei, far more than what we expected…. It made us think, "Ichigo, that's what you were doing in such a place!?'' As a fan of the original work, I was delighted, and I also maintained the feeling that I needed to put all my effort into portraying it.
A: Tite Kubo
About the Irazu Sandō part, I didn't include it because if I tried to draw it in the manga, the scene depicting the agonizing ordeal would span across multiple pages and end up too long. I'm glad that it could be expressed in the anime~!
6. The stage upon which Ichigo undergoes his training, Irazu Sandō. A mysterious and beautiful sight, yet it is also a peculiar place where a solemn air, a stillness and a sense of awe all coexist. (ep. #14 and others)
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
There's torii gates, a cobblestone pavement, shide (*zigzag-shaped paper streamers) adorning both sides…. If we hadn't received materials from Kubo-sensei, I don't think we would have been able to find our way to this point. Whilst enduring something which tries to push him away from the approach path, the more he walked, and the more he advanced, the heavier the wooden sword in Ichigo's right hand became. When he walks, he walks by moving his legs forward without letting his feet leave the ground. A lot of detailed images and ideas were provided, such as scenes of rain falling outside the path. This was then projected into anime visuals, and the Irazu Sandō came to a state of completion. I think this is a training ground packed with every element that is typical of BLEACH, down to the smallest detail, and that cannot be found in any other work. We've also incorporated an abundance of elements that will be connected to the third cour and onwards such as what happened to Ichigo during his training and the scenes he witnessed, so I would be happy if you could take another look.
A: Tite Kubo
Originally, the mental image I had was 'a sacred place, but at the same time, there is a sense that one is being cursed.' However, I thought that if I communicated this to the production team, the eeriness might end up being too pronounced, so I deliberately didn't mention it. The impression I had was that it was like an abandoned path. As a result, I think the team were able to capture that balance in the sense that it is a sacred yet potentially frightening place, and thus they were able to express it well.

Section 3
Design & Color Concepts
7. After the invasion by the Sternritter, the sky of the Seireitei was dyed red, and the squad barracks were transformed into unfamiliar, inorganic blue-white buildings. Director Taguchi's production plan is markedly reflected in those colors as well. (ep. #14)
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
The main goal was to dramatically shift the setting away from Seireitei in a time of peace. Additionally, the upper part of the frame is red and the bottom is blue, which serve as completely opposite elements in terms of hue, so the aim of the production was to consider how the image could be made into something vivid. After the invasion, the Seireitei became perpetually uniform to that coloring, so there were some concerns about whether it would be acceptable as there are very few anime that employ a color scheme which breaks away from the norm to such a degree. However, we wanted to convey the might of Yhwach's power and also the sense that his power had indeed transformed the world. Furthermore, since blue is also the color of 'Quincy Reishi', I considered that perhaps this extreme staging effect in which the space itself ends up dyed in the colors of the Quincy side would make it easier for viewers to perceive the phenomenon where visually, it no longer feels like the Seireitei = the world of the Shinigami.
A: Tite Kubo
When I first received this proposal for the color scheme, I thought the expression might be too extreme, but the way Taguchi-san uses backgrounds is masterful, so I decided that I would try to leave it with him. I harbored some concern that colors of the characters may become difficult to distinguish, but that aspect was also rendered in a well balanced manner. At various points during meetings and dubbing sessions, I often get the feeling that Taguchi-san is someone who can clearly see the final visual outcome.
8. From the standpoint of color, the attire and laboratory, which Kurotsuchi Mayuri contrived as a countermeasure against the Sternritter lurking in the shadows, are also very interesting. (ep. #15 and others)
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
Initially, the glowing Mayuri was only supposed to shine yellow. However, this time, Mayuri's lab itself also shines brightly, so it meant that when we tried to station him there, he ended up blending into the scenery quite a bit. While searching for a way to make Mayuri shine, an idea came from the color scheme designer Gōda-san: "How about a lighting method which shifts into a variety of colors like a gaming PC?" We adopted the idea thinking "it'll probably look great on screen!" We proposed the idea to Kubo-sensei, who readily approved, and it started to take form in the visuals. The colors continuously shifting midway through the plot is an interpretation that can only be represented in the anime, so I believe we were able to exhibit Mayuri's natural presence by using a different approach from the original work.
A: Tite Kubo
This was indeed an interesting portrayal that could only be done in the anime. It's also interesting that it was intentionally made to look like a moiré pattern. After all, this cannot be pulled off by any character other than Mayuri.
9. Mayuri's laboratory is designed to completely eliminate any shadow as a countermeasure against the Sternritter invasion. Evidently, it took a great deal of trouble to express this.
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
It took a lot of trial and error to figure out how to express 'no shadows' in the anime. The most significant factor in creating a three-dimensional effect in an illustration is the contrast of the shadows, isn't it? Given that it was necessary to reject that, we said "there is likely no other way to do this but to test an array of other patterns!" The art staff and I went through the process of trial and error a many number of times. As a result of taking into consideration various opinions that came up along the way, we translated them into the concept of 'creating gradation within the light', ultimately representing three-dimensionality.
A: Tite Kubo
When drawing it in the manga, the way I used to express the idea of 'glowing without shadows' is by erasing around the circumference of what I had drawn. I'm glad that I was able to have it portrayed in such a satisfying manner in the anime too.
10. Hirako Shinji's Bankai, "Sakashima Yokoshima Happōfusagari". A Bankai, which did not appear in the original work (※first appeared in the novelization), is made to enter the stage in the anime, therefore a great deal of enthusiasm has also been poured into its rendition. (ep. #16)
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
The bud of Hirako's Bankai pedestal is formed by the petals narrowing inward when open, retaining their form to become the bud, however I thought that if we produced it with cel animation, the petals would inevitably lose their shape, rather, there's a high possibility that it wouldn't look like a rigid object. So, in order to show the precise movement of a rigid object, we deliberately used CG. At first, what I imagined for the texture was a brass-like luster, similar to the lotus flowers used in Buddhist altar fittings. We struggled while attempting to express the feeling of that material and searched for ways to depict it using CG surface reference / textures and such.
11. Many characters have made their Bankai debut in the original series. Ōtoribashi Rōjūrō's "Kinshara Butōdan", and Humanized Komamura Sajin's "Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō: Dangai Jōe" were also portrayed by utilizing 3DCG technology. (ep. #18, #17)
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
I think 'Kinshara Butōdan' managed to incorporate a finely tuned quality that doesn't look like it was made with cels, having said that, nor does it overly emphasize CG elements, rather it strikes a delicate balance between the two. Similarly, "Kokujō Tengen Myō'ō: Dangai Jōe" was also developed in 3D, I think we were able to well execute the way the gigantic body moves freely and abundantly as opposed to the challenges of producing it with cel animation, which is susceptible to making the movement appear choppy. In the story, there are various Bankai, but in terms of compatibility with 3DCG, rather than the type where it's just the sword changing, it's my opinion that Bankai transformations where the appearance changes completely or another entity emerges, is the kind that fits better from a direction perspective. As mentioned earlier, expressing it in 3D has the effect of altering the feel, so you can stress the distinctness and change in atmosphere brought about by performing Bankai. In a certain way, I suppose it's possible to convey a stronger sense of harnessing something that is not of this world. Therefore, from now on, I intend to continue requesting (to those in the field), that one doesn't adopt a cel animation look completely.
A: Tite Kubo
Both were really good. As Taguchi-san also mentioned, I wanted to avoid having the CG elements coming to the forefront in an odd manner. I think CG shines particularly during Bankai transformations that feature inorganic matter. The CG was skillfully utilized, especially in critical moments where traditional animation eventually tends to falter, like when Myō'ō comes in with a slashing attack, for instance, making it quite impressive to watch.
12. 3DCG is not the only technique utilized for showcasing Bankai. The skills of various staff members have also been brought together.
D: Tomohisa Taguchi
Even though I understood the principle behind it, figuring out how to visually represent Muguruma Kensei's Bankai "Tekken Tachikaze" in the anime, among other things, was challenging because how we'd go about expressing that is a different story. While the blades remain in contact with the target, it continues to explode infinitely. It creates the illusion that the punches being thrown are repeatedly landing tens of thousands of times without the arm ever being pulled back from the point of impact, doesn't it? We worked strenuously to express how immense the power of Kensei's Bankai is by doing things like deliberately adding cel style motion blur to make it look as though the opponent was being hit, aiming for a visual effect that makes it seem like he's trembling after being struck multiple times, and using an approach where we incorporated sound effects reminiscent of a drill used in road construction. In terms of his character and Bankai visualization, Rōjūrō is likened to an Opera, implementing theatrical staging such as the rapidly changing movement of his conductor's baton and the lighting. The music attached to the scene also became particularly important, director of audiography Nagasaki-san and re-recording mixer Hoshino-san fine-tuned it masterfully.

Hello! I'm not too sure if this is the right place to make requests. Anyways I've had this little idea for a while. So basically, the reader occasionally talks quietly to herself, and one day, Tech ( or all the boys in like an imagine) overhears this happening. This happens for awhile then one day they mentioned it or laugh at the comment (depends who you do) and were in shock since we say the weirdest things to ourselves. Thanks for checking my idea out. No pressure to actually do this!
Hello there! Thank you for the request! 💜
I went with just Tech for this one. He has such a natural curiosity I think he wouldn't be able to help but listen to Reader's musings 😊
A New Kind of Understanding (Tech x GN!Reader)
Summary: When Tech notices you mumbling to yourself, he starts to listen to see if he can find the cause.
Word count: 1.1K
Warnings: None.
-- -- -- -- --
“Okay, so that’s for this week…” You clicked your tongue and contemplated the assortment of ration packs spread out before you, counting them again. “And then that leaves these for the week after, and we should have some to spare before our next supply run. I hope it’s not the same supplier as last time.”
As your muttered ramblings persisted, Tech’s datapad slowly dipped, his focus diverted. From his vantage point in the hazard seat, he observed you with keen interest as you lifted a stack of rations into a case. Your mumbling transformed into a vivid recollection of the chaotic sandstorm that had nearly engulfed the team, and he found himself captivated by your train of thought. Whirling grains and howling winds had hounded your steps until you had all bundled yourselves into the ship to wait out the angered elements.
The storm outside had since subsided, but the flurry in your mind showed no signs of calming down, incoherent mumblings evolving into nonsensical rambles and a stream of random thoughts escaping your lips. Tech almost asked if you were okay before you quickly refocused on the task at hand, labelling the food inventory and rifling through the rations for the following week.
Your words became more organised, more precise, and you methodically checked off each item on the stockpile until the list lay bare.
“We should have more than enough until the next supply pickup,” you assured him, pushing on your legs to lift yourself up from the low cupboard. “Might also have some for emergencies.”
“That is a relief,” Tech replied. “Are the crates from the back separated too?”
With a small smile, you nodded and hummed. “Organised them first. Everything has been checked, double checked, and stamped. Even left a little extra for Wrecker.”
“I am certain he will appreciate the gesture.” Tech’s eyes trailed after you as you descended the ramp. At the greetings that sounded outside in response to your cheerful disposition, he peeked out and scratched an itch from beneath his goggles. How often did you mumble to yourself? Had he been so absorbed in his own work that he had missed a squad mate in need?
Continuing with the rest of his duties for the day, he made a mental note to keep an eye on you, paying attention to any subtle changes in your behaviour that could indicate potential stress.
Tech didn’t have to wait long. As you prepared your bunk and settled down for the night, he heard your statements, faint and whispered while you set your armour by your bed.
Entranced, he pretended to busy himself with his datapad and absorbed your voice. Although most of what you said made little sense to him, he could tell from the patterns that they held meaning to you. Mentions of something you had seen, things you needed to remember for the next day, someone from your past who had irked you. Or so he gathered.
Tech clung to every word and felt the movement of thought resonate in his mind. Despite his scientific inclination to document his findings, he respected your privacy too much to intrude in that way. While he was open to observing a willing participant, he would never conduct experiments without your complete understanding and consent.
Instead, he lay back in his bunk and strained his ears for any sounds that might reveal the source of your mumblings, particularly if they revealed any stress or a heavy mental burden. He approached everything with logic and purpose, but he acknowledged that certain emotions and pressures defied explanation, and made it a point to be there for you if you ever needed someone to talk to.
* * *
A jangle of machine parts and tools announced your arrival into the cockpit, and you carefully placed the crate onto the co-pilot seat. As you sorted through, you began to mumble, starting with comments about the items in the box and branching out into other musings.
Standing on the captain’s chair to remove the broken lights overhead, Tech unscrewed the last panel and propped it by the console. Your ramblings continued. He missed a lot due to the rapid pace of your speech, but he caught a few statements to ponder on later.
An old documentary played through the radio, and the correspondent grated on your nerves. His condescending tone provoked you one time too many, and unable to withhold a remark anymore, you sarcastically scoffed, “about as sharp as a cable that one.” You laughed at your own quip and a quick snort from behind you responded. Your voice silenced, and Tech froze.
“Didn’t realise you were listening to me,” you said, a shaky chuckle escaping into the quiet between you.
“I apologise,” Tech replied. With a firm step, his feet found solid ground again in front of the rotating seat. “I… I have heard you mumbling to yourself quite a bit recently. Should you need to discuss any concerns, I am more than willing to lend a listening ear and provide assistance. I’m sure my brothers would also listen should you prefer to talk to one of them.”
Your lips parted as though to speak, but no sound accompanied the motion. Although initially embarrassed by Tech eavesdropping on your ramblings, the realisation that he did it out of concern for your well-being eased your momentary sheepishness and left a warm sentiment in your heart.
“That’s kind of you,” you said. “But I’m more than okay, I promise.” Despite knowing exactly what you wanted to say, you found yourself dithering for words. Coughing to clear your throat, you pressed on. “I was going through some things a few years ago, and one of my friends told me that muttering to yourself is a good way of settling your mind. It allows you to see clearer, to get rid of the mental clutter you don’t need, stuff like that.” Your fingers fidgeted and your ribs ached as anxiety climbed. “I mumble to sort through my thoughts. I know it sounds stupid, but it works. At least for me.”
“I do not think your methods are stupid,” Tech assured you. As he neared your position, he extended his hands to grasp yours, stilling the nervous movement of your fingers. “It is a rather rational approach. I find your mumblings interesting as I get to listen to your natural stream of thought and observe how you transition from one idea to the next. As a result, I feel a deeper understanding of you.”
With a fluttered breath, your chest finally settled, comforted by the intelligence clone’s sweet yet logical manner. “Thank you,” you said, turning your palms over so that you could hold on to his hands and give them a grateful squeeze.
“There is no need to thank me. You are a part of this team and it is imperative we look after each other.” The corner of Tech’s lips curled into a smile, and you reciprocated the gentle gesture. “Although, the offer remains unchanged. If you ever require help, you know where to find me.”

Jailhouse Rock
Dean Winchester x reader
Summary: After the on and off disappearances of prison inmates, the boys decide that the best way to solve their newest case is to admit themselves into the prison. With the help from Y/N acting as their lawyer, everything seems to be going there way (besides from the fact that she misses & worries for Dean).
A/N: Written around the Supernatural eposide 2x19 "Folsom Prison Blues"
Tumblr media
Sitting in conference visiting room, I waited for Dean to enter the room to discuss our master "plan". I still couldn't believe that the boys were doing this. This had to be the stupidest plan we've ever came up with.
The only reason I wasn't acting as a former criminal along with Sam and Dean was so that I could play the lawyer. Even with bringing the idea up that I could play the part along with the boys, they brought it down immediately. Sam thought about it for a moment, while Dean just continued to scold me talking about how he couldnt protect me in prison.
That's how I ended up where I was right now. A small, dark cramped rooom surrounded by endless lines of glass separating the line between prisoners and the outside world. With old telephones lines and the walls that probably held more cases of mold to count, I still couldnt get over how the boys pulled of the prison part. Deacon helped us along the way giving the boys a background story, and playing his real job as a harsh prison guard to both of them.
Even my "laywer" part was an easy set up. With a little conving from my sister (who owns a laywer firm), and a promise that we would spend Christmas with her next year, I was already a laywer set in stone.
Hearing the condescending beeps come from the prison walls, Dean Winchester was seen emerging from the steel doors wearing a bright orange jumpsuit. With handcuffs tied on his wrist and a smirk on his face, I watched as the oldest Winchester searched around until coming closer to where I was sitting near the end of the wall.
Surprisingly there wasn't many visitors in today to see their loved ones. Just a few people here and there, making the ambience perfect for talking about haunted spirits.
Soonly Dean came near, sitting down directly across from my seat infront of the glass divider. Leaning back against his chair Dean Winchester made eye contact with the nearest guard pointing to the cuffs on his hands. With a ancient looking key, the guard took the handcuffs from Dean with a warning look.
Rolling his eyes, Dean turned back around in his seat pulling the metal chair closer to the glass. Picking up the hand phone Dean's smirk widens leaning his arms closer to the opening beneath the glass. "Well would ya look at you sunshine."
"Actually its Ms. L/N, to you Winchester." Moving the hair from behind my shoulder to the front, I placed the folder from inside my bag onto the table.
"Oh excuse me." Dean stopped for a moment observing me from the top of my head all the way down to my blazer. For a moment it made me nervous the way Dean was looking at, Dean Winchester has never once looked at me with those kinda eyes. "I see your playing the part well. You got your hair done?"
"Yep, I've had a lot of free time now without you and Sammy, even convinced Bobby to let me get a manicure." Looking as if he had been betrayed all his life, Dean was shocked not believing the words that I had said. Lifting my freshly painted nails against the glass, I twirled with the diamond ring pressed against my ring finger.
Leaning his body closer against the window to inspect the newly ring on my finger, I began to retreact my hand placing it back onto the phone. "Hows Sam?"
The guard yelled for 5 minutes, but Dean waved his hand up in a careless way. I was surprised that the guard didn't get up and smack him, but taking a quick peak I was suprises to find Deacon guarding the door.
"Hes good but arent you gonna ask about me." Smiling with his ever so classic smirk, I began to roll my eyes and sliding the black folder I had over to him.
Taking the folder from the opening between the glass, Dean and I's hands began to touch for just a moment. For a minute I didnt want to let go, keeping our pinky fingers intertwined. It wasnt until I realized the situation that we had brought upon ourselves that I let go.
Looking over the folder Dean began to nod his head, looking over all the information Bobby and I had researched. Taking the pen I had wedged between the folder, Dean begins to write down a name.
Turning the piece of paper to face my way, Dean points to the name he wrote down on the paper. Looking around to his surroundings Dean slides further off the chair, so that he could whisper closer to where I was. "Glockner, formley known as nurse Glockner. My roommate told me bout her, back when she worked at the prison. A real piece of work I heard, now shes out about her haunting the prison."
Deacon walks by hitting his metal stick along the prison walls. He starts to yell about how there were 3 minutes giving Dean and I a warning look.
Grabbing the piece of paper Dean previously had wrote on, I began to fold the paper with the folder placing it into my bag.
Sliding the bag onto my shoulde, I faced my eyesight back up to look at Dean. Playing with the cord on his phone, Dean's eyes continued to bore into mine. With a nervous habit, I started to twist the ring on my finger. Noticing what I had started to do, Dean picks his fingers up pointing to the ring. Shaking his head in a questioning look Dean behind to speak through the phone again. "So when were you going to tell me about your special someone?"
Smiling across the glass I sought to think of a special someone. "Well I think you already know him."
With a grin on his face, I started to realize how much I loved to see his smile. Even while being contained in prison he still put on a good laugh. Watching the other people around start to get up, I realzied my time with Dean would come to an end. Even though we would see one another again in a mere 8 hours I still sought my emotions that would miss him.
Seeing as my time would soon come to an end, I reached my hand through the glass to touch Dean's for a quick moment. Dropping the crappy prison phone, Dean drops his other hand dropping it onto mine. Sliding my hand out from unbeanth Dean's I begin to put my hands on top of his playing a game with who would be on top.
From the corner of my eye Dean and I could both see Deacon distracting the other prison guards giving the two of us a moment. Sliding both hands out from under mine, Dean pulls my hands closer to his side of the glass leaning his face closer to them. Leaving two kisses on each, I began to pull away leaving with a smile. "I'll see you on the other side Winchester."
With a quick step up and wink I started to walk away missing the presence of my favorite Winchetser. Turning around for a moment to take a last glance, there was Dean leaning back in his chair taking a very thoughrough lingering stare as I walked away. Even behind a prison glass that boy would never lose his charm.
Walking out of the conference room, I began to receive my personal belongings that I had to drop off before entering the room. Picking up the ever so infamous car keys, I began to twirl them around my fingers knowing that Dean would sure likely kill me if I ever hurt his baby, but hey one joy ride doesnt count.

The Lucky Horseshoes - A Heartland Season 16 AU - Chapter 13
Tumblr media
Chapter 13
Amy sipped her coffee as they gathered around the stack of equipment in the center of the kitchen. “Ok, Lilac for Lyndy’s walls, that light green, Drizzle for the master and the master bath above the wainscoting. The grey, Krypton for the guest bedroom and sunflower for the kitchen walls. Oh the second bath gets that light rose over the wainscoting. Snowflake white for all the trim, doors and wainscot.”
The house was freshly painted matte white so closets and ceilings didn’t need to get done.Let’s start taping, who’s taking what room ?”
The painting crew for the time being was Amy, Lyndy, who insisted on helping, Jack, Lisa, Tim, Jessica, Lou and Katie. It was Katies job to keep Lyndy busy and not causing too much trouble. They had a stack of tarps for the floors, painting tape, rollers, brushes and a stack of paint cans.
“I expected your boyfriend.” Tim announced grabbing two rolls of tape.
“So did I, emergency call to the rodeo, one of the cutters threw a bad shoe. The owner was adamant, Caleb set it up. They’ll be here in a couple of hours and Cass will bring lunch from Maggie’s, the nanny gets to her at noon.”
“Finn is momma’s boyfriend.”
Lou smiled “and how do you know that sweetheart ?”
“They hold hands.”
“Holding hands is important.” Lou said the smile not leaving her face.
“And they kiss.”
“Ok.” Katie cut in with a giggle “you’re helping me today Lyndy bug.”
They all smiled when Lyndy held out her hand which Katie took.
Since Lyndy declared that she wanted to work on her room Katie and she started taping the floor board together and promised not to deal with ladders without an adult to supervise. Amy and Lou would work on the master bedroom, Lisa and Jessica in the master bath and Tim and Jack would work in the kitchen. The priority of the day was taping with painting starting later if there was time.
“What’s the schedule for the rest Amy ?” Lisa asked
“We paint the kitchen and bathrooms first thing this week and the cabinet guys will install their stuff on Friday and place the appliances which are coming Wednesday. The plumbers are coming next Monday to install the wet fixtures. It looks like most of the furniture is coming the week after so figure 3 weeks for the move in give or take.”
“Excited ?”
“It’s a combination of excitement and out and out fear Lou.”
“You’re just down the road Amy.”
“Yeah, that’s what keeps me going.”
“You got home pretty late last night sis.”
Amy smiled as the memories of the day and night before flooded back to her.
She actually gave herself 3 hours to get ready for the evening and started with a long hot mid afternoon shower. Lyndy was out with Jack and Tim for a slow ride out to see, in Lyndy’s case, and check the herd which was the actual reason for the trip.
It was strange being all alone in the house and she laughed as soon as she thought it when there was a knock at her door.
“Amy it’s Lisa, can I come in ?”
“If you don’t laugh.”
“What would I laugh at ?” She answered walking though the door. “Ok, maybe a little laugh, look at you !”
Amy smiled. She was laying in the center of the bed in a robe with her hair up in a towel having just finished polishing her nails and waiting for them to dry. Her fingers were splayed open on the bed beside her, her toes separated by cotton balls.
“That’s a nice color, it’ll go well with your dress.”
“Light coral, I like it. I should have gone in for a manicure and had tips but time ran away and they would never last.”
“He won’t be looking at your nails Amy, can I help ?”
“I don’t mind the company Lisa.”
“Then I’ll stay, tea ?”
“Tea would be great and these are dry, guess I’ll start on my hair.”
“I’ll be back in a few minutes, anyone else coming ?”
“Cass is coming by in about an hour to hang, she’s leaving her BMW for the date.”
“I was going to ask if you wanted the Porsche, just had it detailed.”
“Hmmm, Beamer or Porsche, what’s a girl to do ?”
Lisa smiled “let me get the tea.”
After leaving Amy her tea Lisa took her place on the bed leaning against the headboard with her feet up while Amy brushed out her hair.
“Nervous ?”
Amy turned to answer “off the wall butterflies, I never felt like this with Ty, at least I don’t remember it.”
“I remember your prom dance, you were pretty antsy.”
“I don’t think that was this Lisa, I mean this is bordering on nausea.”
“Sip your tea Amy, it’ll calm you down, it’s chamomile. You do realize this is all different. I don’t know how to say it buy you and Ty got stretched out into one long soap opera and had he not had a relationship with Heartland, I just don’t know.”
Amy sighed and nodded, took a sip and a deep breath and went back to brushing before reaching to plug in her curling iron. She sprayed the edges of her hair as the iron heated.
“One of the things I’ve thought about since, I don’t know. Anyway, not the time to think about it. Lisa could you pull out my dress and fluff it out, you can hang it on that hook.”
“What about make-up, think you’ll be able to handle that on your own ?”
“It’s embarrassing but my hands are shaking, Cass volunteered to do it for me.”
“She’s a good friend.”
Amy smiled and started curing her hair “she’s enjoying this.”
“She’s not alone.” Lisa answered smiling when the knock came. “That’s probably Cass, I’ll get her.”
Amy was surprised hearing two other voices and then realized that one was Jessica’s who had apparently shown up together with Cass.
They both came in a couple minutes later each carrying a cup of coffee. Lisa followed them in a few minutes later.
“Jess, I didn’t expect to see you today.”
“I’m leaving right away, my meeting’s at 6 but I wanted to be here for the gift.”
“What gift ?”
“The gift Jess and I had made for you.”
“What gift Lisa ?”
“This gift Amy, for you from both of us.” Jess said handing her a small wrapped box.
Amy smiled and looked at the box.
“Well, open it.” Cass said from her spot on the bed.
The box was wrapped in blue paper and tied with a matching blue bow which Amy pulled and set aside before unwrapping the box which when opened contained two smaller boxes, one a long and flat rectangle and one square.
“You two should not have done this.” Amy said before opening either.
“Of course we should have”, Jessica said  “who else do we have to give it to ?”
“I don’t know what to say.”
“Open the boxes Amy.” Cass said for a second time.
“Oh my.” Amy exclaimed when she opened the larger rectangular box “this is too much, is that a sapphire ? A Diamond clasp ?”
“Shhhh, calm down Amy”, Lisa said “my grandmother gave me that pendant when I went to college and the earrings in the smaller square box, well some of them and Jess had the pearls so we had a jeweler in Calgary work their magic and there you are.”
“The pearls are from my grandmother’s estate, they’re called Golden Biwa, she bought them years ago in Hawaii.” Jessica added.
 The necklace was a double strand of pearls with a diamond and sapphire pendant hanging from the center, the earrings, sapphire studs with a cluster of four Biwa pearls that hung from each. Both Amy and Cass thought they were beautiful.
“They’re on the Fairfield insurance policy and my agent said that as my granddaughter you’re covered so don’t worry of that account.”
“I’m not worried Lisa, it’s just …….”
“Please Amy.” Jessica said “This is no way to accept a gift from your step mom and grandmother.”
Lisa was closer and Amy stood and wrapped her arms around her and then Jessica telling each that she loved them and thanking them.
“Really glad we haven’t got to your make-up yet.” Cass said laughing.
“Oh Cass, I forgot, we can take Lisa’s Porsche which will make it much easier in the morning. You can just meet us at the center and we won’t have to swap.”
“Fine with me, I would have had to come pretty early, Caleb has to be at the rodeo grounds at like 7:00.”
“I haven’t told Finn, I’m sure driving either will thrill him.”
“Give me a kiss Amy, I have to get out of here.”
Amy got up and kissed Jess staying for a brief hug.
“Thank you so much for everything Jess.”
“Please let Lisa take a picture.”
“I promise.”
“I’ll walk you out Jess, I have to start dinner. I’ll be around if you two need me.” Lisa said leaving the room right behind Jessica.
“We have time but which first make-up or dress ?”
“Does it matter ? Let’s do make-up first and we’ll be careful.”
Amy walked over and scooted up onto the bed alongside Cass who had kicked off her boots and was up against the headboard.
“So, just a few weeks until the move, you doing Ok ?”
“I’m good, I mean it’ll be different but I’m looking forward to a new experience and Lyndy’s off the wall excited.”
“Well, I’m happy for you, I think it’s a good step getting away even if it is just down the road.”
“It’s not an escape Cass.”
“I didn’t mean it was, just new.”
Amy smiled and reached over to take Cass’s hand, “glad you’re on my side.”
“Everyone’s on your side Amy.”
They both stopped and smiled when they heard the door and heard Lyndy call out “Home momma !!” a second before she ran into the room.
“Hi Auntie Cass !!” She announced before Cass stopped her from climbing onto the bed.
“Hello sweetheart but you need to get washed up before climbing onto mommy’s clean bed.”
“Cass is right Lyndy, go on wash up good and then hugs.” Amy added with a smile.
“Make-up after hugs ?”
“Works for me, thanks for this Cass.”
“With you all the way kid.”
A few minutes later, with Lyndy perched on the bed watching, Cass sat across from Amy and applied a light foundation with a brush before starting on her eyes. Amy didn’t go in for much make-up and Cass commented that with her natural glow not much was necessary. The last touch was Amy’s lips which took a matching light coral before she turned to the mirror.
“Thanks Cass, it’s perfect.”
“Ok, get your lingerie settled and I’ll be back in a few minutes to help with the dress. Can I refill your cup Amy ?”
“Some water would be great Cass, Lyndy, feel like a snack ?”
Lyndy nodded yes and Cass put out her hand leading her from the room while Amy reached for the box that contained her new undergarments.
Cass returned a few minutes later with Lyndy who climbed back up on the bed with her small s plate of apple slices and Lisa who was going to help get the dress set.
Amy giggled as they lifted it over her head and carefully shielded her face so not to upset the make-up or her hair. Cass stepped back while Lisa zipped it up and attached the small clasp at the top. A moment later Amy turned to the floor length mirror and smoothed it down.
“You’re beautiful momma.”
“Thank you sweetheart, think Finn will like it ?”
Lyndy smiled and nodded as did Cass and Lisa.
“It’s perfect for you Amy.” Cass said.
“Absolutely.” Lisa agreed. “It really sets off your features. Get the earrings on honey, it’s almost time.”
Amy sat down and got her earrings on and waited while Lisa attached her necklace. Once done Amy slipped on he shoes she’d been practicing wearing for the past week while home she stood and looked at herself in the mirror.
“What do you think ?”
Cass smiled “Hell, I’d date you in that get up Amy, it’s beautiful.”
“Lisa ?”
“I’ve got nothing to add to that Amy, you’re positively glowing.”
“Lyndy, what do you think ?”
Lyndy smiled and gave her a thumbs up.
“Guess that’s it, who’s out there ?” Amy said grabbing her clutch which she had filled with some tissues, touch up makeup and sliding her phone into the hidden pocket on the back.
“Jack and Tim are on the porch.” Lisa said “Shall we ?”
“Might as well.”
“Any advice Cass ?”
“Just keep breathing Amy, everything else will come naturally.” She answered helping Lyndy from the bed who naturally reached up for Cass’ hand when she was down.
Lisa led the way through the house and opened the porch door for Amy and the rest to follow. She was surprised to see Lou and Katie on the porch as well.
“Lou ?”
“I know, I got cover for me and Katie so we could see. You look beautiful Amy.” Katie was glowing looking at her and nodding.
Smiling ear to ear Amy turned to Tim and Jack.
“I don’t know what to say Amy, Lou’s right beautiful covers it.” Jack said.
“Beautiful really doesn’t Amy.” Tim said getting up and looking her up and down. “You look so much like Marion.”
“She does, doesn’t she.” Jack agreed.
“Ok, Amy first picture for Jess and then one of you together when he gets here.”
“Lisa, it’s not prom.” Amy said laughing before she posed.
Nobody thought Amy’s smile could get brighter until Finn’s truck pulled through the gate and down the road to the ranch house.
He stopped when he got out of the truck and then reached in for a large bouquet of a dozen red roses before straightening up and turning to the porch.
She stood waiting at the top of the stairs and immediately notice that he was freshly shaved and had gotten a haircut. His suit was dark blue covering a crisp white shirt and a silk blue and red tie. The only hint of cowboy was his highly polished black boots. His eyes were bright and piercing as he took her in, his smile as bright as hers.
He glanced at the crown on the porch for a second while climbing the stairs and stopped when he reached her, leaned forward and gently touched his lips to hers.
“You’re beautiful Amy .”
“Not too shabby yourself.” She said.
“For you.”
“Thank you so much, they look and smell wonderful.” Amy said taking the flowers and holding them close.
“Let me take those for you Amy, I’ll put them in your room.” Lisa said.
“One second Lisa.” Amy added stopping her and reaching over to the bouquet to break off one of the buds that she put through Finn’s lapel. A second later she unlined on the the safety pins she had secreted in her bag and maneuvered it around to hold the flower in place. “There, now I can appreciate your gift all night.”
“We ready ?”
“Wait prom pic !!” Lisa said which made both Amy and Finn laugh and turn to pose.
After both men stood and shook Finn’s hand where Tim added “don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
In response Jack pointed at him “definitely words to live by.” Which made everyone laugh.
“You two have fun tonight.” He added with a smile at Amy who took a moment to lean over to kiss Cass and then Lyndy.
“Thank you Grandpa, Finn ?”
Lisa took that moment to palm her keys to Amy who took Finn’s crooked arm while she went down the stairs. Once down and walking to the vehicles she revered her arms and led him to the Porsche dangling the keys beforef him.
He smiled again taking them and turned to the porch to spot Lisa and mouth “Thank you.”
As he backed out and turned the Porsche toward the gate they saw Amy wave as they pulled away.
“Anyone remember the last time she looked that happy ?” Cass said from where she was standing with Lyndy.
“It’s been a while coming.” Jack muttered quietly.

Prompt - I have for the first time found what I can truly love. I have found you.
—————————————————–
You and Aaron had had a long week at work, each on separate cases but both equally as drained as the other. Your job saw you travelling to and from New York each day, working for one of the states best law firms, it was hard working your way up but you did it and now you were dealing with high profile cases day in and day out.
This case was particularly gruelling but it was finally finished and you had won. It was a small victory for the family but it was a victory nonetheless.
Aaron was working on his own case, he had been in Las Vegas for the past four days dealing with a serial killer who was targeting families. The unsub was organised, too organised, and more families were killed before they finally caught a break. From there it had been a matter of hours before they caught the man and the team was back on the jet.
Aaron finished up on the phone before dropping down into his seat beside Rossi who raised an eyebrow at him.
“Short of an emergency we all have Friday and Monday off, I don’t want to see any of you for four days.” Aaron announced to the jet, smiling as it was filled with cheers and laughter.
“So, big plans?” Rossi asked, smirking at Aaron who just rolled his eyes.
“I plan on doing absolutely nothing.” Aaron replied with a smile, already thinking of how great it would be to spend a long weekend with you and Jack, it had been far too long. He had already spoken to you and upon hearing the good news of your case asked if you could get two days off and thanked god that you could.
“I hear you, man.” Derek spoke up from opposite Rossi. “Four whole days of nothing but me and my girl.”
“What about you, kid?” Rossi asked, looking at Spencer who sat opposite Aaron.
“There’s a film festival I really wanted to go to actually, it's showing a bunch of different films in their original language.” Spencer told him and the grin on his face was enough to stop any teasing.
“Have a good time, pretty boy.” Derek smiled back, ruffling the younger man's hair causing him to pout.
Aaron couldn’t help but smile at the scene but as much as he loved this family, he couldn’t wait to get back home to you and Jack.
-
“How hard can cupcakes be, right?” You asked Jack, who stood on a chair in front of the counter. The two of you were staring at the ingredients that were spread out, not knowing where to start. When you suggested Jack make something for Aaron you were thinking more along the lines of a picture but when the kid suggested cupcakes well…you really wanted cupcakes.
“Right.” Jack agreed, grinning up at you.
Turns out it was harder to make cupcakes than either of you thought.
Aaron walked into the house, smiling immediately as he heard Jack giggling madly. He was quick to follow the noise but stopped abruptly as he stared into the kitchen.
“Daddy!” Jack yelled, quickly scrambling off the chair and throwing himself at Aaron who caught him and lifted him with ease despite the cupcake mixture that stuck to his clothes, face and hair.
“Hey buddy,” He grinned, turning his attention to you. There you stood, cupcake mix splatter on your face, in your hair and on your shirt. You looked dejected as you held an electric mixer, clearly the culprit of the cupcake explosion. “It looks like you and Y/N are having fun.” He said with a laugh, watching how you pouted up at him.
“We were gonna make cupcakes for you, daddy, but Y/N put it on too high.” Jack informed Aaron, giggling madly as he did.
“I didn’t know!” You defended, there was a reason you weren’t trusted in the kitchen.
Aaron’s smile grew and he couldn’t wait any longer to move closer to you, the hand that didn’t hold Jack caressed your cheek and he brought you in for a soft kiss. It didn’t last long, how could it with Jack laughing and making kissing noises, but the two of you pulled away with matching, love struck smiles before you and Jack began laughing together at the cupcake batter that was now perched on Aaron’s nose.
He rolled his eyes but couldn’t fight back the smile.
“Alright, alright,” he said, gaining both of your attention, “how about you two get cleaned up and we can all go out for dinner and then get some cupcakes, hm? That sound good?” He asked Jack who nodded with a grin and squirmed for Aaron to put him down. Once he did, Jack shot off to his bedroom and Aaron turned his attention to you.
“You can’t of thought that was a good idea.” He said as he wrapped his arms around your waist, leaning in to steal another kiss.
“The kid said cupcakes, who was I to say no?” You responded when he pulled away, giggling as he trailed kisses to your jaw and then peppered them down your neck.
Your eyes closed as you tilted your head back, giving the man more access and you couldn’t help but whine as he pulled away. The whine quickly turned into a laugh as he leaned closer and licked a blob of batter that had stuck to your neck.
“Go clean up, baby.” He said before kissing your head and untangling himself from you.
You and Jack were quick to clean yourselves up and soon you were all out the door and heading to a restaurant that you often frequented when you had Jack.
-
It felt like forever since you had been out with the Hotchner boys and you enjoyed every minute of it, no annoying work calls pulling one of you away, no looming threat of Aaron being called to a different state. No, just you, Aaron and Jack going out together, eating good food, catching up with each other properly.
It was wonderful.
“Cupcakes now daddy?” Jack asked as the waitress cleared the plates.
“Yeah, cupcakes now daddy?” You echoed with a smirk watching as Aaron playfully glared at you.
“Sure thing buddy,” He said to Jack, causing you to let out a quiet laugh. “Pick which one you want.”
Aaron couldn’t tell you who smiled wider when dessert was brought out, you or Jack. Both of you tucked in with the same hunger and he just smiled at the scene.
When you and Aaron had first met, it was to do with a case he was working on. He never expected it to blossom into this. The friendship was unexpected but not unwelcome and then before either of you had realised it you had developed feelings for one another.
You were quite a bit younger than him and he was hesitant to bring the feelings up, not understanding what you could possibly see in an older, divorced, single father.
That was the other issue, sure you knew about Jack but there was a difference between knowing about him and wanting to be a part of his life and as much as Aaron had liked you he knew he couldn’t bring somebody into his life who couldn’t accept Jack.
So the pining went on for months as Aaron made the decision for you that you didn’t want to be burdened with a child that wasn’t yours. And when you finally pulled Aaron’s head out of his arse and made him talk about the feelings between you, you could have slapped him silly.
Sure kids weren’t exactly your forte but you’d at least have liked the chance to decide that. From there Aaron had introduced you to Jack after the two of you went on a few dates. The two of you decided the best place would be out in public, a little less daunting and that’s how you ended up at the zoo.
Jack had warmed up to you rather quickly and you surprised yourself with how good you were with him. Eventually it was Jack asking if you could have a sleepover at their house rather than Aaron trying to explain that you might be there in the morning sometimes.
Aaron was so glad you had talked him out of his own head way back when, and as he watched you with Jack, he knew, not that there was any doubt, that he’d made the right choice.
-
“Can we watch a movie?” Jack asked as the three of you entered the house.
“Buddy, it’s nearly bedtime.” Aaron reminded him as he took your coat from you before taking his own off.
“Please daddy,” Jack pleaded, turning on the puppy dog eyes, “I’ll brush my teeth and put my pyjamas on.”
He looked at you but you were looking down at Jack with a soft smile and he couldn’t say no if he wanted to.
“Deal, teeth and pyjamas, we’ll meet back here in five.” Aaron said and grinned as Jack took off running.
“C’mere baby,” He mumbled as he pulled you closer to him, wrapping you up in his arms. “I missed you so much.”
“Missed you too.” You confessed into his chest before titling your head up. Aaron was quick to turn his head, leaning down and capturing your lips in a soft, slow kiss. When he pulled away he didn’t go far, resting his head on your forehead.
“Can’t wait to have you all to myself these next few days.” He told you quietly, fingers brushing against your waist.
“Me neither, it’s going to be heaven.” You replied, matching both his tone and the smile on his face.
“Daddy,” Jack’s voice pulled you away from each other and you turned to see the kid grinning up at Aaron showing his freshly brushed teeth and proudly wearing his Captain America pyjamas. “You and Y/N/N need your pyjamas too.”
“Of course we do!” You exclaimed, taking Aaron’s hand in yours and pulling him towards the bedroom with instructions for Jack to put a movie on.
“Really can’t wait to have you all to myself.” Aaron said again as he watched you pull your shirt over your head.
“Down boy.” You laughed, throwing the shirt at him.
Watching you undress made Aaron long to touch you but seeing you dressed in his clothes, sweatpants that were way too big for you and a college shirt that drooped off your shoulders was somehow infinitely sweeter.
“I love you.” He told you, pulling you close to place a kiss on your exposed shoulder.
“I love you too.” You smiled before turning around and kissing him. “Get changed.” You ordered.
“Yes ma’am.” Aaron laughed but did as you said.
Aaron couldn’t help but smile as he held his family in his arms. Jack was half in your lap and half in Aarons and you were sat flushed against him, head resting on his shoulder and your hand holding Jack’s leg.
The movie was still playing but Jack was fast asleep against his chest and you were pretty close to following. Despite that though, Aaron couldn’t bring himself to move and send you both to bed. Instead he tightened his grip on both of you, smiling as you cuddled further into him.
This, this was all he needed, you and Jack by his side. His little family, both of whom had been through so much. All he wanted to do was protect both of you and he would, god would he do anything to protect the pair of you.
You were one of the best things that had happened to him, he had known it since the day he had met you and he had known it two weeks ago when the team finished a case in California and he walked into the jewellers to buy the ring and he knew it now, looking down at you holding onto him and Jack.
He knew you were the best thing to happen to him in a really long time and he would forever be thankful that he had found you.

Chapter 7: Redeeming our Faults (final chapter)
Tumblr media
I'm BACK B****!!! I know it's been...what? A year now? HOLY SHIT, You guys have no idea how sorry I am about this. I'm happy to be back, and as for my final chapter I wanted it to be long. Just to show how sorry I am and how much I'm willing to make amends for my absence. Please enjoy my lovelies! It's been a long time coming.
===========
Beautiful. That’s the only word you could describe the weapon Winters has displayed on the wall. For some reason it calls out to you, something familiar yet foreign.
“Do you want it?” Winters asked gently.
“Let me guess, this relates to my past self?” You raised an eyebrow at him.
“Well yes, you’ve earned it. You saved a fragile village from dictatorship. ‘Helping doesn’t make you a hero, it makes you human.’ Those were your exact words-”
“When we took him down?” You interrupted as if it was obvious.
“When you took me down.” Winters chuckled when you quickly turned to him surprised. “That’s actually the first time we met. Ever since, you somehow managed to change my greed and desires into so much more. A better man.”
“That’s...actually a bigger plot twist than I anticipated. If that’s the case, then why did you become immortal?” You looked at all his ancient stuff in curiosity. Winter's smile faltered a bit and walked towards the balcony. You followed him and you saw the centerpiece of the main floor separate, there were cages that emerged from the floor. The sound of monsters screeching and growling. ‘Leo must be in one of them.’
“The portal to a parallel came with a benefit...and a price.” Winters solemnly continues. “Before I declared war, there was an ambush. We were happily married and restarted our lives as civilians. Until..an assassin from another empire killed you. You didn’t give out without a fight, but the damage has been done. I swear I tried to save you…” Winters clenched his fist at the harsh memory and you instinctively put your hand over his fists. You don’t know why but you felt that it was one way to calm him down.
“..Is that why you wanted to become immortal? Because you were afraid of death?”
“No, I would’ve laid my life for you my dear. I did it because that was one of the benefits to opening the parallel universe. To bring you back. The price was becoming immortal and turning my generals to stone.” Winters opened his fists and held your hand. Your chest felt warm, knowing someone would make a big sacrifice just to be with you. Knowing your worth, taking a chance with no doubts in his mind, waiting thousands of years to be with you. ‘Something Leo lacked…’
Your heart tightened and tears formed but you held them back as much as possible. This man truly loves you, and what’s even more frustrating is that...you can’t even bring yourself to love him back as much. You hated that you can’t just take the love that you really deserve, that you can’t return it.
Winters notices your collected tears and gently puts a hand on your cheek. He starts to smile warmly down at you. “Opening the portal was a promise to me that I would see you again. It just didn’t specify when. I just wanted another chance to see you again, even if it’s for a day or an hour, enough time for me to say...I’m sorry...Darling, I’m so sorry that I couldn’t save you, protect you. Standing in front of you once again has reminded me how much I missed your beautiful presence.”
You went speechless, you were trying so hard not to break down. Right now, he was talking to the woman he loved thousands of years ago and yet he felt like he was talking to you too.
“Winters...I..I-I don’t know what-” You were choking up a bit.
“You don’t have to say a word my dear. I know I’m stuck in the past, and I have no knowledge of what will come next when I break this curse. All I know is that you made a second chance at life, and even if I’m too late to claim your love, enjoy it.” Winters wiped your tears and kissed your head. That’s when it clicked, he didn’t just want to see you again, he wanted you to restart your life.
The sound of the portal forming changed both of your attention. Winters smiles constantly, finally the day to end his suffering, and a perfect end to his guilt. Then, the cages seem to turn one at a time. Your nerves begin to spike when you remember that Leo is in one of them. ‘Shit..’
“Wait, Winters, my b-...friend, is in one of those cages.” You almost slipped the habit of calling Leo your boyfriend.
“What?” He frowns a bit and turns to see that each of the cages have turned except for one. Heavy steps approach from behind and Winters turns around in anger. “What have you done?”
“Your time for giving orders is over.” General Aguila points in demand.
“You don’t understand, I need to send these creatures back to where they came from. To finish this curse once and for all.” Winters explains but the Generals ignore him. Claiming that it’s their time to take over. General Serpiente got closer and tried to hold you hostage. You dodged and fought back until she slashed your thigh, making you yelp in pain and catching you off guard when she wrapped her arm around your torso. Aiming the blade on your neck with a menacing hiss. Winters made an effort to help you but the other three Generals backed him up to the edge of the balcony.
__________________________
Everyone got inside Winters Corp and looked for Leo. Once they found him and exploded the door to open, he started to stir consciousness. Raph pulled him out and they both made amends. The happy reunion ended when Winters was thrown far from the balcony towards the ground near them.
“Winters?” April was surprised to see him getting killed.
“More like fall, get it?” Mikey snickered.
“Mikey, remember what we talked about?” Donnie rolled his eyes.
“Y/n would’ve appreciated it..” Mikey mumbles, but everyone hears it. Leo clenches his katanas and looks up in time to see Aguila.
“Looks like someone got to him before us.” Casey pointed out while turning to see Aguila standing on the balcony and turned to walk away. Mikey took a hockey stick from Casey’s bag and poked Winters with it.
“Not so immortal huh dudes? Mikey seemed disappointed that parts of the legend aren’t true. Suddenly, Winters gasps back to life making everyone scream.
“Your times run out Winters.” April stands in the front, looking demanding. They’ve achieved Leo back, and now they want you back. She wants her best friend back.
“Miss O'Neil? I must’ve hit my head really hard. I’m seeing giant turtles.” Winters rubs his head, unexpected to see April and mutants, not to mention Casey as well, not that he remembers him.
“We know what you're up to Winters. We know about the portal and Y/n. We want her back and for you to send all these monsters home.” April ignores his confusion.
“I couldn’t agree with you more. I know it’s time to end this curse that I put upon myself and this world. For Y/n to finally live the life she deserves. That’s what this is about Miss O’Neil, penance. I need to bring all thirteen monsters together, or our curse will continue. And that is a torment I can no longer bear.” Winters expression saddens that he can’t be free of this curse.
“Then you should be put out of your misery.” Aguila speaks out, revealing himself and the other generals.
“Let me go!” You tried to struggle against the female's deadly grip, surely to feel a bruise later. Her blade slightly makes your neck bleed, alarming everyone. She hissed at you to be quiet.
“Without the thirteenth monster we can finally bring the world to destruction.”
“With nothing standing in our way, we have an army at our command.”
“My brothers, I beg you to let her go, I-” Winter pleads to Aguila.
“We are no brothers to you!” Aguila gets angry and stands taller. “You fooled us, you had us believe that the portal was to gain us the world. You wasted the portal for a woman you loved. How pathetic.”
“We shall repeat and finish what we began all those years ago.” Serpiente looks down at you with a small smirk, almost smug. That one implication made Winter's blood run cold.
“It was never an assassin that killed her..it was you?!” Winters clenches his fists. His own family killed you and all this time he thought it was an assassin sent from another empire.
Everyone else was either shocked or flaming in anger. Your life being held by the same blade that ended your life years ago. It sent shivers down your spine in a horrible way. Can a family be this destructive?
“Join us Foot Clan, and no harm will befall you.” Aguila turns to the Foot Clan and to send the message clear, the blade slowly sliced your neck. Trying not to wince but your face shows pain. The Foot Clan soldiers were starting to walk but Karai stopped them, glaring at Aguila.
“The Foot Clan is not without honor. We work for Winters, not you.” Karai signals her soldiers away. April and Casey quickly follow after Karai. Someone has to break the curse while the rest save your life.
“It’s pointless, without the last monster there will be no one to stop us. The portal will close forever, with you inside it.” The generals walk towards Winters, but he remains standing strong. He will keep you alive this time.
“We’d hate to rain on your parade, but we thought we’d even the odds.” Raph growls, taking out his weapon along with his brothers. None of them were gonna let you die.
“We’re going to enjoy this.” Aguila states and moves to strike along with his generals. Serpiente huffs and roughly grabs your arm to toss you aside. You groan from the ground and try to sit up. Splinter and Winters quickly run to your side and help you sit up.
“My child, oh how happy I am to see you.” Splinter smiles in relief and you couldn't help but hug him. You really needed this hug, the hug of a father. You release him and look at the portal with monsters leaking out.
“It’s getting worse, how do we delay an army of monsters?” You huff at the flying assholes.
“By sending them back where they belong.” Winters smirks down at you and you smile knowing how well your fighting spirit comes around.
“I’m gonna go get a weapon.” You stand up and the two elders start to put the monsters back in their place. You jog around through the mess of a fight to find a proper weapon. You find a case of swords and run towards your luck. Now a way to get-
You jump back when Leo crashes into the case full of swords.
“That was easier than I thought. You okay?” You tried to suppress your chuckle.
“Never better..” Leo groans, he looks at the general making his way. He turns to you to warn you, but he sees you pluck a sword off the ground and smirk down at him.
“Come on, don’t be slow.” You point towards the swords around him and he smirks. He collects the swords on his back and stands proudly.
“Come to daddy.” Leo smugly tells the general.
“Really?” You blush and walk away, making Leo blush too at the realization. Leo shakes it off and goes back to fighting while helping Splinter and Winters beat the hell out of the monsters.
______________________
After April and Casey guided the monster into the portal, the generals were pushed in. You took a breath, finally finishing this nightmare of a night with your family. You laugh to yourself when the brothers celebrate their victory, it was a sight you missed dearly. You were more happy to see Raph and Leo made up. Leo made eye contact with you and you gave him a genuine smile. The first real smile you’ve given him since he got back. It feels nice.
“Thank god your good dudette.” Mikey broke the stare between us and gave you a bear hug. You laughed and hugged him back, you had no idea how much you missed his hugs as well.
The banging of a van door caught our attention, Karai and Casey emerged at the same time but accidentally touched each other's hands. April pushed them both out of the way and got out of the van. You could tell April felt bad for pushing them out until she got pushed out herself. Funny thing about all this is that Casey thinks he made a bad move with Karai and tries to make up for it in a kiss with April. That shove he gave Karai was priceless, you tried your best not to laugh or snort.
Watching the passionate kiss he gave April made your heart clench. You wanted that with Leo. You turned towards Winters and saw him looking at you already, making you smile. You made your way towards him.
"So what now?" You smile up at him and he gestures to you both to sit on the steps.
"Well, now that the curse is broken, I might just fade with it. Remember, I'm just part of the consequences." Winter gives you a genuine smile. No sign of sadness or regret.
"I'm...sorry, I know you wanted to have another chance with me-"
"And I have. Maybe not in a way I would like, but seeing for my own eyes that you have family and friends, is enough for me to move on. I've lived thousands of lives but you were not able to live out one. After everything you've done for me, I owed it to you." Winters gently put his hand on your head, not sure how to give you affection after years of loneliness. You went ahead and wrapped your arms around him in a hug. Nothing else needed to be said, he knew you were happy and that was enough to make him satisfied.
"Thank you." You whispered, he wrapped his arms around you as well. Holding on to the feeling of the person he loved all these years ago. At least one last time.
"Your welcome darling." Winters softly responded back.
Having a moment like this with Winters was unreal, and so real at the same time. Letting go of the past to have a future, the future you weren't able to live out. You realized that you were more than just a reincarnation, you were an impact to fulfill a destiny. Your own destiny. It isn't defined by anyone, you define your purpose. To die for the people you love, to live for the people you love. You would die a thousand times for the family you built, and you would live alongside them a thousand years longer. For the turtles, Splinter, April, Casey. All of them.
“So...if the curse has been lifted, does that mean you're mortal again?” You asked letting go of him. Winters tilted his head a bit, questioning himself the same thing. He took a small sharp rubble from the floor and sliced it against his chin. You stared at the blood slowly seeping through the cut. What shocked you was that it wasn’t healing.
_______________________
Leo's conversation with April ended a bit short when his eyes found you. April immediately knew his thoughts without reading them and smiled.
"You're not too late, you know. Maybe this time you can clearly show her how much she means to you, instead of telling her your value. She knows what she deserves and understands what she wants. Nothing can change that." She gently squeezed his shoulder in reassurance. Leo turned to April, and saw nothing but reassurance. He smiles genuinely and gives her a firm nod. He's not gonna screw this up again.
Winter's laughter caught Leo’s attention and everyone else’s. You were beside Winter’s smiling, with everyone else not understanding what was so funny, Raph decided to approach Winters.
“Winters?..” Raph raised his eyebrow and looked at you with a questioning look.
“I’m never usually that happy to be in pain.” Mikey confusingly says.
“He’s happy because he’s mortal again, Mikey.” Donnie explained.
“April. I’ve had my eye on you for a long time.” Winters looks towards April and smiles. April smiles shyly, while Jones was rolling his eyes and snapped.
“I knew it!.” Casey says without thinking. April nudged him with a frown and you suppressed a giggle.
“I always knew that you’d be the one to help me find my way home, and to reconnect my past connections.” Winters clarified and looked down at you with a soft smile. Winters looked towards the turtles and Splinter.
“And thank you…brothers. You’ve made a very old man very, very happy.” Winter's gratitude towards the boys made you very proud of them. Splinter glances at each of his sons with a proud smile. You walked forward and hugged Mikey, since he was the closest to get to. Mikey happily hugged back.
“You are everything (Y/n) deserves. These thousands of years have been worth this moment.” Winter smiles at you and you return it.
“So, what happens now?” Mikey asks when you let go of him.
Winters, glances behind him and sees the sunrise. Turning back around he closes his eyes and prepares for his peaceful end. He glows and rises from the ground. Raph gets worried and tries to take a step forward to help him, but Splinter stops him and gives him a reassuring look. Winters fades away into a gold and blue ball of light, the blue light fades away, leaving glowing gold dust around us.
Once the golden dust touches you, your past memories instantly went through you like a river. You remembered growing up, becoming a fighter, a friend, and a wife. You even remembered your death. It was unreal to have two distinct memories from two different lives. Raph snapped you out of it with a nudge, you turned to him and saw his ‘you good?’ look. You smiled at him and attacked him with a hug.
“Softie.” You mumbled with a soft smile. He playfully scoffed and hugged you back.
“Don’t push it.” Raph warned, his smile slowly fades when he remembers the rooftop incident. “Hey uh...I’m sorry. About everything. I was-”
“I forgive you.” You let him go and smile at him. You love that Raph has the capability to apologize despite his bad temper, but you’d never let him swim in his own guilt.
“Okay, just a little bit creepy.” Mikey dusts himself off and then sneezes. Both of you turn your attention to Mikey, you giggle while Raph rolls his eyes. “Oh gross. I think he’s in my no- my no- my no-!” Mikey sneezes again. You, Raph and Donnie take a step back. “Gross. Somebody give me a hankie. Now he’s in my mouth. Tastes awful.” Mikey continued and Raph slapped upside his head.
“Quit your whining.” Raph irritatingly says.
“Yea, that’s (Y/n)’s husband you're talking about.” Casey chuckled, making April elbow his stomach.
“You mean ex-husband smartass.” You laughed and shook your head.
“Since we did it, how about some victory pizza?” April suggested with a grin.
“Now we’re talking! Come on Don, let's flip the van and hit the road.” Mikey nudged Donnie and ran towards the flipped vehicle.
“Mikey, even if we flip the van, we need to make sure it can run smoothly.” Donnie sighed but followed Mikey anyways.
“It’ll be fine. There’s a pizza place close by, it should only survive for a couple of minutes.” Casey calmly reassures and follows the two brothers.
The van is flipped and functional, the atmosphere around everyone is joyful and at peace. Well almost at peace. You feel Leo’s stare once in a while, you will have a talk with him, but privately.
__________________________
After getting our wounds treated and having pizza, it’s been more of a hangout than a celebration. You wouldn’t have it any other way. You and April have been standing on the sidelines, along with Splinter as well.
“So I’m guessing you're sticking around for a while longer.” April stands right beside you and smiles at the three boys playing video games. They make it seem chaotic with all the empty threats and yelling. Casey, Mikey, and Donnie have been trying to outdo each other.
“Where else would I possibly go? I’m home.” You smile at April and put your arm around her arm. Like a best friend chain you usually do with her and Raph.
“Good to hear, my child.” Splinter smooth's his beard in content. You all watch Donnie and Casey fail at beating Mikey. The entertainment was cut short with someone clearing their throat. You turned your head and saw Raph smirking with Leo smiling sheepishly.
“Uh...Mind if we talk privately?” Leo asks, rubbing his neck a bit. April and Raph glance at each other and grin.
“Why of course fearless. Just make sure it’s quick before you miss Casey lose it.” Raph gestures to Mikey calling for more help to get Casey off of him. “Yea we’re coming!” Raph yells out to Mikey and goes towards the struggling trio. April laughs and rubs your shoulder for ‘good luck’ before following behind Raph. Splinter hums peace while following both of them. You giggle at the scene before you and turn towards Leo.
The one person you have rarely encountered all day since the rooftop incident. Looking at him again makes you want to hug him. You're only waiting for a proper conversation with him. Leo’s eyes left yours and glanced down to your neck, it was bandaged but the reminder still makes his blood run cold.
“Your neck..” He gently reaches to your neck, careful not to hurt the wound. You blush a little at the care. “I’m so sorry. If I wasn’t so caught up in myself back at the rooftop, you wouldn’t have-”
“Stop.” Your stern but gentle tone shut him up. “I forgive you, but this cut wasn’t caused by you. No one knew I had a literal past life to deal with.” You place your hand on top of his, the one on your neck.
“I know. My apology still runs deep, I never should’ve let you go. I know that now. It might be a little too late to realize, but I need you to know that you have given me enough strength. Enough strength to fight, to protect, and to love.”
“Leo..” Your gaze is soft. Leo takes his hand from your neck to holds your hand, as if to stop you from saying anything else. “Wait...I’m not finished.” You let him continue.
“I’m one of the lucky ones to have you with me through everything. I’ve always been so happy to have you with me, actually I’m happy right now. If you let me, I can show you how happy I am.” Leo put his other hand on your cheek. You blush and notice that his eyes show nothing more than love and admiration for you. You stay silent but he knows your silence isn’t rejection, he understands how you process your feelings in silence just by looking at you. Your heart is beating faster, hopefully your face isn’t a red mess, and you don’t know if your breathing is normal. This is the effect he has on you. Well that’s just great.
“Kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss.” A whispering chant from the group is extremely noticeable. Leo rolls his eyes at them and you just glare at them.
“Seriously?” You raise an eyebrow at them.
“Oh come on, you guys are practically begging for it.” Casey chuckles and April playfully nudges him.
“Now I’m begging for you to shut it.” You snapped, warning him.
“Hey Fearless, you're just gonna stand there?” Raph teases Leo, making him huff in annoyance. Leo gently holds your face in his hands and turns you to him. You didn’t even have a chance to say anything when he places his lips onto yours.
Your mind just went blank for a second until you wrapped your arms around his neck. Even after a year apart, you both still managed to tangle yourselves like you used to. Your heart still flutters, you feel safe, and most importantly you feel at home. You still love him, that hasn’t changed. It will never change even if you wanted to, even if you tried. Leo wraps his arms around your waist and slowly pulls away, much to your inner protest. You opened your eyes and you're welcomed with his charming smile, the smile you missed so much that it haunted your dreams.
The ridiculous loud cheers made its way to your ears, making you flinch a bit from the sudden interruption. Leo chuckles at your reaction and kisses your temple. Everything just seems to change for the better.
“Awww, this was a moment worth waiting for.” Mikey sighs in awe with his hand under his chin.
“Try not to make it sound creepy Mikey.” Donnie rolls his eyes playfully.
“How about another one for the camera? Pictures last longer.” Mikey points to the camera phone Raph has out.
“Just proving to fearless that I ain’t no homewrecker the next time he wants to show his knives.” Raph smirks teasingly at the couple. You blush and give Raph a glare. What the hell.
“Alright, show’s over.” Leo speaks up and picks you up bridal style, you gasp at the sudden gesture. He takes upstairs while everyone else whistles or makes teasing comments. You had a choice: either you snap at them or to enjoy the warmth the man of your life is gonna provide you. Screw them, you have your man back.
“You alright?” Leo smiles down at you.
“Yea, just wondering how much you missed me throughout the year.” You responded naturally, which surprised you. Could the chemistry go back to the way it was?
“The whole point of taking you to my room was to show you how much I missed you.” Leo’s eyes gave a glint of naughty mischief, the confidence in that sentence really made your lower stomach flutter. You don’t know where this came from, yet you don’t care, cause you love it.
“Then make sure I don’t leave that room until I fully understand.” You also don’t know where your confidence came from. Maybe from a place of longing, but you’ll be damned if you let this opportunity slip through your fingers.
You know that Leo has owned his mistakes, and right now he’s gonna redeem them from now on. Well for now, all night long.

A Change of Heart (post-”Miraculous New York”)
"Kaalki, divide!"
Ladybug felt Kaalki's light wash over her, the kwami emerging and flying a small distance away. They were up on one of the rooftops in New York, overlooking an interview that was happening on the street.
Kaalki hummed in interest, taking the time to see the tall buildings. "What a grand city." Then, her gaze dropped down and she squinted, adding with distaste, "Quite crowded though."
"There's an interview going on right now. That's why. One of their supervillains was just taken down," Ladybug explained, placing her foot up on the edge of the building and peering down to look at the crowd.
"And, what precisely are we here for?" Kaalki asked, hovering near Ladybug's face to follow her gaze.
"Not what, but who. We’re here to see Eagle," Ladybug answered, pointing at the eagle-themed superheroine being interviewed. The crowd was enthusiastically cheering at just about every answer Eagle was giving, and Ladybug couldn't help smiling at the fact that the person she gave the miraculous to was still doing well.
As the interview came to an end, Eagle's eyes shifted from the interviewer to Ladybug, who had made sure to be where the red-and-black of her suit would stand out; she wasn't exactly the definition of "stealthy," and it worked to her advantage in this case.
Eagle jumped up to the nearest rooftop, then waited for the crowd to disperse before leaping over to where Ladybug was. "Hey, Ladybug! What are you doing here?" Her brows creased in seriousness, and she held her fists up like she was raring for a fight. "Did Hawk Moth come back to New York?"
Ladybug waved dismissively. "No, no, it's nothing like—"
"Pardon me," Kaalki said, making sure she was loud enough to be heard. She puffed her chest out haughtily and gestured to herself with a hoof. "I'm Kaalki, the kwami of migration. Pleased to meet you," she said, her tone forced as to imply that she didn't appreciate being ignored.
"Uh... hi," Eagle greeted flatly, then looked to Ladybug for an explanation.
"Sorry about her. She was my ride." Grabbing Eagle's wrist and leading her to the center of the rooftop, where they were less likely to be seen from the streets, she explained, "Anyway, I came here because I was hoping that I could get your help."
Eagle leaned to the side, curious. "My help? What for?"
"Well..." Ladybug hesitated. "This is going to sound like a weird request, but..."
—————
Eagle crossed her arms in thought, still seemingly absorbing the explanation. "You want me to use Liberation on you? To get rid of your—"
"—romantic attachments," Ladybug cut in stiffly, the word 'crush' and 'love' sounding extremely un-Ladybug-like. She blushed in embarrassment and looked away, bringing a hand up to partly hide her face. "Listen, I know you probably don't get this sort of thing. It's already awkward to talk about it while I'm Ladybug, but—"
"No, I get it," Eagle assured, though her expression was neutral.
Ladybug looked at her in surprise. "You do?"
With a slight roll of her eyes, Eagle replied, "Okay, so I don't get all the love stuff exactly, but Uncanny Valley has her own thing for me to deal with. She always wants to help people; she can't help it. Besides, Liiri says that there's always something stopping people from reaching their full potential. Sometimes it's bad, sometimes it's good, and it's my job to figure out what it is." She glanced Ladybug up and down, as if to gauge something. "You really think it's that bad?"
Ladybug responded with a wince, bad memories already starting to surface.
"Alright, wow," Eagle said, hands raised as she took a step back, the reaction having already convinced her while she herself clearly wanted no details about it. "Are you ready then? You know this is only going to last five minutes, right?"
"Wait—" Ladybug blinked in surprise. "You're really going to help me?"
"Yeah?" Eagle replied. Half-offended, she asked, "Did you really think I wouldn't?"
"No! Sorry!" Ladybug rubbed the back of her head sheepishly. "You'd be... surprised, by how bad this stuff usually goes for me."
For a moment, Eagle looked tempted to ask, but shook off the thought just as quickly. Placing her fists to her chest, her gaze went firm, showing that she was ready.
Ladybug stood in place, almost nervous at the prospect of doing this. She was essentially taking out a piece of herself, but it was the only way to test it; the only way to know for sure.
"Liberation!" Eagle called out, spreading her arms as a single light burst out of her.
Ladybug flinched, her fighting instinct kicking in, but she held firm and let the light touch her. For a moment, she was frozen, able to sense Eagle's presence in her mind and even hear her voice. Eagle's voice was calm, but tempting, offering the freedom so desperately desired.
"Ladybug, your love has taken over your life. I release you from it!"
—————
Marinette quickly stashed the glasses in her purse as she checked her phone's timer. She had four minutes and forty-five seconds to do this, and she took a steady breath before stepping out of the alley she'd been hiding in.
As she raced across the street, the fencing students were just filing out out of Françoise Dupont. The moment she saw Kagami and Adrien leaving, she raised a hand, raising her voice so she'd be heard. "Hey, Adrien!"
Adrien and Kagami stopped and glanced her way. Adrien turned to Kagami, saying something and briefly tilting his head in Marinette's direction. Kagami nodded at him in response, and they separated, Kagami heading in one direction and Adrien heading in Marinette's.
At first, Marinette was nervous, her worst case scenario being that Liberation had truly failed or worn off when she de-transformed, or that her feelings were somehow so strong or messed up that even Liberation somehow couldn't help her.
Yet, as Adrien approached, she found that she wasn't shaky at all. Her heart wasn't pounding either. She didn't even feel the slightest bit of awe from his presence.
She was normal. She was okay.
"Hey, Marinette," Adrien greeted with a smile. "Did you need something?"
It took her a moment to answer, still stunned that it'd worked and she'd truly been freed of her crush, even if it was for five minutes. "Oh. No, actually, just..." She reached into her purse and pulled out her phone, checking the time, then kept it at her side as she asked genuinely, "How was fencing?"
Adrien looked briefly caught off guard, though whether he was surprised at her acting differently or just the question was anyone's guess. He then brightened, replying excitedly, "It was great! I got paired up with Kagami again, and you know how Mr. D'Argencourt is with fencing, so he..."
The conversation continued as nothing but casual from there, and Marinette almost felt silly at how amazed she was by such a simple thing. It was actually like she was Adrien's friend; like they were on the same page and she could actually hold a conversation with him. He looked and talked the same way he always did, yet she was perfectly fine. Students passed by and maybe tossed them a brief glance, but completely ignored them otherwise because she wasn't acting "weird."
At worst, she was grinning just a little wider out of the pleasant surprise of the whole thing.
When she'd first thought to "liberate" herself of her feelings for Adrien, she was certain she'd be disappointed by it. She honestly thought that she would see Adrien and miss the heart fluttering, the weak knees, and the sheer dreaminess he used to radiate.
But she was wrong. With her crush gone, she could see herself from an outside perspective and reflect without fretting over the things she would've otherwise. Where she thought there'd be disappointment, there was relief that she could actually breathe and not turn into a mess around him. Her mind wasn't clouded with thoughts, and her eyes could drift wherever she wanted without some brainless thought intruding and warning her that she might miss Adrien blinking if she looked away.
She'd needed this. It was nice; more than nice even. Is this how it could be all the time if she truly moved on from him? No more mocking, no more jealousy, no more "crazy Marinette"? It'd be like a celebrity crush that she grew out of; an embarrassing memory of the past and nothing more.
More importantly, she would remember this. She would remember this feeling; the sanity of not being in love with Adrien, or not feeling whatever that emotion was actually called. To say the word "love" seemed so... wrong.
Still mid-discussion with Adrien, Marinette's phone suddenly beeped with a warning message. She turned it in her hand, seeing that she'd properly set the timer earlier to warn her when there was a minute and half left of Liberation.
Adrien leaned over to look at the screen, but jumped when a loud honking noise abruptly sounded off from behind him. Marinette tried not to snicker, but it was difficult; seeing someone else be the jumpy one was quite the experience, and she'd have to remember that too.
Adrien looked over his shoulder at his limo waiting for him, then glanced back at her apologetically. "Sorry, I gotta go. Can we talk later?"
"Oh, sure! Definitely!" Marinette stashed her phone back in her purse, then waved to him. "See you tomorrow!"
"Bye, Marinette!" Adrien exclaimed, waving as he rushed off. "It was fun talking to you!"
"You too!"
Marinette pursed her lips, trying to contain herself as she watched Adrien get into the limo and ride off down the street. She waited until it was out of earshot, then let herself start squealing, even hopping around and doing a twirl for effect.
"M-marinette?!" Tikki called, concerned. "Did it wear off? There's still time—"
"I'm gonna delete all my Adrien pictures!" Marinette exclaimed. "And take down that disaster of a wallpaper!"
"W-wHA—!!" Tikki gaped. "Marinette, when your feelings come back—"
"That's future Marinette's problem! This feels great!" Marinette cheered, having to suppress her excitement just so she could talk. Raising one hand dramatically, she placed the other to her chest, saying to no one in particular, "Oh, what's that? Me, crushing on Adrien? Ew, no way! We're just friends!"
She laughed triumphantly, a bounce in her step that made it seem almost like she were jogging. She crossed the street, reaching for the bakery door's handle and practically singing to herself, "Just friends~ We're just friends~ Me and Ad~ri~en are just good—"
She paused as she opened the door, seeing a familiar mix of blue and black standing at the counter and talking to her parents. At the chime of the bell, all three looked over at her, Luka's smile welcoming and his lips partially coated in white from what seemed to be a powdered donut.
"Hey, Marinette," he greeted. "We were just talking about you."
"Oh, he's such a sweetheart," Sabine cooed. "He came all the way here just to see you."
Luka blushed a light shade of pink at the obvious teasing, Tom jumping in to exclaim, "And he really thought he had to pay us for sweets! I told him, you're friends with our daughter, you better not put a single coin on that counter, young man!"
The three had a laugh together; clearly, they'd been getting along before she came in.
Yet, Marinette's smile fell from her face, a mental 'oh' echoing in her mind.
She hadn't even considered Luka when she'd thought of taking away her crush on Adrien, but it made sense; Eagle had said love, and Marinette wasn't foolish enough to think that she hadn't felt anything romantic for Luka. It only made sense that her crush on him would go too.
But it wasn't the same. The relief didn't follow the lack of feeling. With Luka, there'd always be a little leap in her heart, then a wave of calm washing over her, but neither were there and she couldn't help feeling disappointed.
Luka's smile disappeared as he noticed her expression. He approached, concern written all over his features. "Marinette?"
They were friends at that very moment; that was all the feeling she had on the matter, but she wanted what she'd had before. She remembered his confession at the TV station and yearned for the warmth in her cheeks when he stared at her and told her how much he loved her with words that were entirely his own; words that told her that he loved her as herself and filled her with a confidence she seldom had outside of being Ladybug.
Everything clicked. Her crush on Adrien represented stress, anxiety, and losing herself, but her crush on Luka represented peace, happiness, and being herself.
She missed how she felt about Luka. She didn't miss how she felt about Adrien.
That was all the answer she needed.
Almost on cue, her phone beeped again, this time to signal that Liberation was over. Marinette took in a shaky breath as she felt pleasantly familiar emotions rush through her again, and she welcomed them back like she would an old friend.
Luka's blue eyes gained vibrance and allure, his lips being coated in powdered sugar suddenly became incredibly cute, and she could think of him as no less than the most handsome boy in the world.
"...Sorry," she said breathlessly, waving a hand to assure him that she was alright. "Let's just say I went through a lot of emotions today. I'm happy to see you, really!"
Luka's smile came back, filling her with its warmth. "I'm glad," he said in relief. Then, taking a glance at her purse, which was still letting out a muffled, melodic beeping noise, he asked, "Sorry, do you have to be somewhere?"
"Hm? Oh, no, not really." She took out her phone to shut off the timer, then flashed him the screen before closing the app and storing the phone back in her purse. That done, she paused to consider things, then dared a glance back at him. "Hey... can we walk for a while?"
He blinked, mildly surprised, but nodded. "Sure. Did—" He froze, apparently only now realizing that he had powdered sugar on his lips. He swished his tongue around to lick it off, then started over with, "Did you want to talk about something?"
Smiling almost smugly in response, she felt confident enough to offer him her arm, as if he were a damsel she was leading around. She'd never seen his eyes widen quite so much before, but he also didn't protest, happily taking hold of her arm.
Knowing that her parents would just be giving their looks of approval if she glanced back, she stepped out of the bakery and led Luka towards the park.
"So, it took a little longer than I hoped, but... do you remember when you were talking about me getting clarity?"

Waking Up Next to Him
Masterlist
Set platonically and within the adventure. It’s long so it goes under the cut!
Time
The bright sunlight winked just beyond your eyelids at an blinding angle. Your back was against warm though and was surprisingly comfortable despite the growing ache in your neck. There’s a weight over your shoulder, pinning you in place but doesn’t dig in. A thrown blanket is covering your body and the secret weight, even if half of it has ended up on the forest floor. You’re too tired to think of what the weight can be. All you know is that it’s comfortable and you don’t feel like moving. A heartbeat passes and the solid form on which you lay shifts.
A groan.
More shifting.
Heat flushes your face slightly as you resign to get up, trying to play the whole cool, once you realize what, or rather who you passed out against.
“Mornin’ Time.”
Your pillow takes a minute to assess the situation.
It’s early, none of the others are up yet. Too tired from the journey the day prior, but the resident chef wakes up the earliest to cook breakfast on time. He’s asleep now but won’t be for long. You thank the stars and your luck that you woke up before him. No pictures for him to take this time.
Time grins, seemingly unbothered by the events and sighs good naturedly. “Good morning.”
Twilight
It was a cold night. They told you it would be. Both your traveling companions and the breeze as you settled with the day’s end.
But you couldn’t have guessed how cold it turned out to be.
Sleep didn’t come easy. Discomfort and shivers kept you awake. Your blankets were warm but not warm enough. At some point, in the middle of the night, you gain the warmth your tired brain was waiting for before drifting off to sleep.
When you wake, you can’t breath.
Hairs tickle your mouth and nose and there’s a large and heavy being on top of you. At first you think it’s Wind because the shape is much to large to be four but smaller than some of your other companions.
Further analysis and you realize that it’s not hair but fur, that’s threating to enter your lungs and the color of the material seems awfully familiar.
“...Wolfie, I love you but you’re killing me. Get off.” You weakly push the beast away, not coherent enough to move your limbs and piece together how to be a functioning human yet.
The creatures blinks up at you, having just woken up as well and notices your open eyes. A yawn and crushed ribbed where he stepped to get off later and your freedom has been duel earned.
You take a breath of relief and grin, only now noticing the cold with the rising sun to be a little more barrable than the previous night.
“Thanks buddy, you’re a walking heater. I probably would have been a popsicle if it hadn’t been for you.” He nods in acknowledgment and swiftly turns away before you can reach behind his ears to thank him properly.
You look up and see Wild and Time already awake, not talking. Warrior looks to just have woken like you today. Not unusual but welcoming nonetheless. Wind and Sky probably won’t wake up for another hour or two and Hyrule and Four always wake up a little after them. No one knows for sure when Legend will get up because its never consistent and Twilight seems to be missing as well.
The ranch hand emerges from the tree line seconds after you realize he was gone to begin with. He smiles at you and waves in greeting.
You wave back and try to dust the wolf hairs off of your clothes.
You missed Twilight’s subtle smirk.
Warrior
It was a hard fight and not a safe place to stay put but the dungeon left you with little option. Separated from the group and low on provisions and healing items, you and Warrior realize that your both running low on fumes. Taking refuge in a secluded corner, hopefully far away from any potential monsters and threats, you rest.
Waking up is hell.
Sleeping back to back was probably not the best idea but neither of you wanted to risk an ambush. Shifts were supposed to be taken but given that you both fell asleep says something about your energy levels and the previous fights.
Your neck hurts, your legs are sore, your butt and hips are not thanking you for the treatment and everything ache will familiar but expected battle wounds. None major but each one takes its toll.
“You up?” Warrior stands up as if he wasn’t bleeding from the shoulder yesterday and he also didn’t sleep sitting for who knows how many hours.
“I am clearly sitting Captain.” You mutter. “I am not up. I refuse to be up.”
“You know as well as I do that we have to get to the others. What if they need help?”
“I’d argue we need the help. Everything hurts. We have no fairies and there’s more dungeon ahead of us with obviously more enemies and traps and puzzles...” The puzzles... were the worst. “Just five more minutes....Please?”
Warrior says your name in a way a tired mother tries to get her stubborn child to listen to reason. His face twists at the idea and when he attempts to look over his shoulder to check your surroundings, it instead contorts in a pained grimace.
So his shoulder pain was still there after all.
“Fine. Five minutes.”
Sky
As expected, Sky goes down for the count within the first few minutes of the mandated lunch break. Unfortunately after a rumble or two and strange smoke coming from the distance that decidedly wasn’t there when you first arrived, the group decided to investigate.
Legend goes to shake Sky’s shoulder in an attempt to wake him but it’s all in vain.
Sticks are drawn after a long and loud argument about what to do and yours in the shortest.
Everyone else goes to check out the commotion and you are stuck with babysitting duty. It’s not bad all things considered- he’s asleep- no actual babysitting happening. But part of you can help but grumble about missing the action so you sit non too gently next to him and decidedly not pout.
Your stomach is full and the sun light begins to feel heavy and warm and nice.
Your eyes close before you can fight it.
Some time later, you’re shaken awake. Adrenaline fills your system instantly but upon seeing the laughing face of Sky himself, you remember yourself and only marginally resist the urge punch him.
“Feel better?” You ask instead.
“I could ask you the same thing.” He chuckles and points to his chin.
You wipe across the area and your hands comes back wet, cold and covered in drool.
“You saw nothing.”
“Oh sure, but Wind did.”
Great.
Now it’s on his pictobox. That’s blackmail material in his favor, you suppose and refuse to acknowledge it further.
Wild
When you wake up, it’s still dark. Not even close to sunrise.
The fire burns bright and warm throughout the area but it’s not the fire that’s keeping you warm.
You also find out you can’t move.
You crane your head slightly to find long hair draped over your shoulder and a familiar scarred ear belonging to the resident champion.
He wrapped around you completely, hugging you tightly and pining you down with a leg to boot.
You attempt to shimmy out but his grip tightens instead.
You sighed and watch as Twilight comes into view. He crouches closer and squats on Wild’s side, whispering to you. “Do you need help getting out? I can wake him to take over Hyrule’s shift for the night.”
You take a minute to rethink about your position. It’s not painful. The opposite actually. It feel nice. You’ve seen Wild cling to who ever he can get his hands on when he sleeps so you’re not surprise.
You don’t need to pee or leave anytime soon anyway.
“No, I think I’m good actually.” You reply, whispering as well. “Let him sleep, it’s been a day for everyone.”
Twilight nods and leaves, but not without looking back once or twice in case you changed your mind.
You shimmy back in place and allow yourself to be held by your friend.
Sleep comes easier this time.
Hyrule
Gentle fingers card through your hair. Warmth, magic and the unusual feeling of safety plague your mind. Confusion hits you but the alarm that typically follows never comes.
“Oh thank goodness, you’re awake.” A voice fills your ears. It’s muffled and must have been quiet to begin with because you can’t make out who said it yet.
Organizing your thoughts feels like traveling through knee high mud.
Your eyes blink open and the light comes through.
The Traveler is leaning over you, thankfully blocking out most of the sun from immediately assaulting you.
“Hyrule?”
“You had us worried for a minute.” He visually sags with relief, a tired smile on his face and leans back. “You took quite a hit.”
Your head feels swollen but as Hyrule continues to push your hair back it dissipates as time passes. Your thoughts clear and with his help, you sit up.
A hand places itself by your temple. It takes a half second before you realize it’s yours.
It comes back covered in dried blood.
Sky runs over after tending to Four with what looks like a bloodied wet cloth. He sits down slowly and begins to clean your head in a familiar fashion.
“Thank you. Both of you.” You tired voice comes through and a worn out smile follows soon after.
“Anytime.”
Wind
It’s nice day.
According to some people.
Dark clouds cover the sky, the sun nowhere to be seen. It pours cats and dogs and the only cover for miles is a lone cave where your group currently takes up residence. Everyone’s wet and your clothes feel heavy and cold. No one is happy.
Wild, Twilight and Legend dive deeper, intending to check out if any monsters reside in the cave.
Hyrule insisted on traveling with them but Warrior’s concussion and Time’s bleeding leg call for further attention and Legend claims to have more magic restorative potions than healing potions.
He stays behind.
Four and Sky take over the food while he’s distracted, trying to make a half decent meal before he intervenes.
Wind is groaning, sore and bored but otherwise unharmed.
You don’t make any comments at your own pain, biting your tongue and taking a deep breath. As you lean against the stone wall, Wind stomps up next to you and sits down with purpose.
“I could’ve gone with them.” He slams his fist into his cheek with his elbow on his knee.
“But you didn’t. It’s not so bad.” You said.
“They didn’t want me to go.”
“You’ll live.”
“I’m just as good as them you know.”
“I know and you make a better pillow.” You says, throwing yourself sideways with your head landing on his lap. He squawks indignantly and attempts to push you off but you hold on. “Sorry, you make the best pillow.”
“NOOOO!”
“YEEEESSS!”
“Nooooo.” Wind keeps his hands on your back but you’ve misjudged your exhaustion. You’re out in seconds.
A moment passes.
“Hey, hey, hey.... wake up. You have to eat.” A small hand shakes your shoulder.
“Hm?” You blinked tiredly. There’s a bowl if front of your face and you don’t hesitate to grab it. “Thanks.”
“You’re heavy.” A voice calls from behind. The owner lets you take the bowl and begins to gently push you off into a sitting position. “I can’t believe you did that.”
“It was supposed to be a joke but thanks for letting me sleep.” You admit and smile at the pirate.
“You trapped me.” He pokes your side, trying to look annoyed but falling flat. There’s a joke in there somewhere. You’re missing something.
The others have come back while you were out of it, all either have hidden smiles or failing to hide their shaking shoulders and snickers.
Curious and a little self conscious you looks into the provided meal, your reflection greeting you as always.
A lightbulb goes off over your head.
“DID YOU DRAW ON MY FACE?!”
Four
There’s a force dragging you down but there’s two arms under you.
It’s very concerning for a moment but then....the size of them catches up to you.
Your head snaps up and comes face to face with a very surprised Four.
“Hello.”
“...Hi.”
“Lovely weather we’re having, don’t you think?””
“You’re leading with that?” Four snorts and continues walking, unbothered by your weight in his arms.
“How...?” You trail off trying to find the right words to explain what happening to you. You don’t feel any pain and nothing feels injured....but the lack of memories is a little concerning.
“How am I holding you?” Four smirks as he guesses incorrectly. “I’m stronger than I look.”
“I was going to ask how did I fall unconscious. I don’t remember anything. I’m more surprised by that than the fact that you’re holding me despite being half my size.” You blinked and try to keeping searching through your memory.
Nothing comes up.
“Wizrobe.” Four answers causally with a shrug. “It caused some chaos, fought another wizrobe and you got caught in the cross fire between the two of them before we could intervene. Their attacks canceled each other out well enough that you weren’t actually injured but uhh..... Well I suppose you’ll figure it out sooner or later.”
“Four.” You glare in warning.
“Maybe don’t look at your reflection for a while. Legend, Twilight and Hyrule all agree that it’ll fade with time but...”
“What are you talking about? What happened to me?” You sit up a little in his grip, Your arm reach over his shoulders and something wrong catches your eyes.
Your skin is green.
Your shocked silence stills your entire body. Four winces once he follows your eye line and stops to place you on your own feet.
“It could be worse?”
You stare a little while longer and look back to Four with hopeful eyes. “Think you can knock me out again?
He’s not amused.
Legend
You blissfully wake up for the first time in a week.
It’s been an easy week in terms of travel and attacks so the boys take it upon themselves to cause trouble and it hasn’t been merciful to your sleep schedule.
They are the very incarnation of that thing your hometown friend used to say. How did it go again? If there’s no trouble then I’ll create it? Something along those lines.
But this is different and you don’t plan on wasting it.
You close your eyes and attempt to go back to sleep while you can but hushed voices reached your ears, keeping you awake before you can tune them out.
“Should we wake them?”
“You know how Legend is. He can be as bad as Sky and he had a rough night to boot.”
“But he’s right on top of them and they promised to show me how to fight in hand to hand combat.”
“You have all day for that and they didn’t say it was going to be today.”
“But I‘m excited! I want to start as soon as possible.”
“Will you idiots keep it down?” A voice by your shoulder speaks up. It lacks the usual snark it posses but the intention for venom is there. “Some people took double shifts last night. Shut up.”
You breath a small sigh of relief as the voices abruptly cut off and don’t return for a long minute.
The body next to you stills.
Three heartbeats pass and the unnoticed weight gets off of you.
You pretend to be asleep still, not wanting him to push you away so early in your relationship. He’s just started to get used to you.
You’re determined to be his friend before everything ends.
He’s determined to avoid that.
It’s been a battle of wills.
An unstoppable force meets an unmovable object.
But this could tip the scales in his favor if you fail to play it off correctly.
“No one say anything.” Legend hisses. “Not. One. Word.”
You make the mistake of stretching.
“You’re up! You’re up! You’re up!” Wind practically pounces on you, knocking his name sake out of your lungs and demolishing any chances for a peaceful morning. “We can start now!”
“Can I eat first at least?” You groan out, not bothering to fight him off.
“Wind. Off.” Time calls out and the boy follows the command without question. He quickly kneels by your side though, practically vibrating on the spot.
You sit up and look around.
Looks like you were the last one up.
“Morning everybody.” You smile. You glance at Legend who unluckily has the tips of his ears tinted red. His arms are crossed and he’s avoiding looking at you, even greeting you as the rest of the group return your call.
You smirk. “Good morning Legend. Did you sleep well?”
He huffs and turns away completely, taking a few steps to leave.
You get to your feet, shadowed by Wind and head to take your share of the food from Wild.
A beat passes without any words exchanged and you tilted your head innocently at the Veteran. You refuse to let it be awkward between you so you pretend you know nothing.
The blush travels down his ears to his face and neck. “I did. Thanks for asking.”

Oh Baby Chapter 10
Wooo there’s a lot happening in this bad boy! And a lot of cute dad Gibbs moments! Enjoy! Thanks to the lovely @leroyjethrogibbsgirl for the brainstorming and writing sessions!
Tumblr media

—————
Since Amelia’s party the Gibbs family had been doing pretty well. They were still doing family counseling sessions, and Y/N and Gibbs had been going together as well. Y/N knew since gibbs wasn’t a talker, if they went together he’d get to hear strategies that they told Y/N to try and wouldn’t feel so alone.
Gibbs had even agreed to start a low dose of medication to help with his panic and episodes. Y/N was beyond proud of her husband and couldn’t believes the process he made. Sniper was also a big help, and the fact that his little girl loved snuggling up to him, which always calmed him down.
Y/N was feeling close to normal again until Gibbs got a call from Vance that had him seething. She set Amelia and Piper up with toys in her room and went in to check on Gibbs.
“Hey baby wh-“
“He’s out”
“What? Who?Y/N asked and then froze. “That maniac that tried to take our daughter is out?”
“Escaped during transport. Agents are coming here to guard the house, but I’m staying and working the case from here. Dinozzo’s got point at NCIS. I’m not leaving you girls.”
She hugged him tight, amazed that he was not running to the navy yard to make sure he can tackle the man himself.
It had been a solid week of fear for the Gibbs family. All three of them stayed hunkered in their home with police details around the perimeter. Y/n made sure to not scare Amelia by making it like a mini vacation but Gibbs could tell it was getting to her. And y/n could tell it was wearing Jethro down. She had even began to suspect that he had stopped taking his medication.
He was on edge, more so than normal, moody and a little snappy. Y/N also noticed that when she went to put her bottle of new meds away that Gibbs’ hadn’t been touched.
Y/N had woke up that morning, expecting her husband to already be up grumbling around like usual.
She was surprised when she walks downstairs to Jethro making breakfast. She smiled and kissed his cheek, scooping Amelia from her seat.
“Hey there my cuties! How are we doing?” She asked as she goes to put coffee on.
“Good just got up” Gibbs said as he kissed both girls.
“I can tell, no coffee yet.” She laughed and Amelia said.
“Poppa love coffee!”
“He sure does!” Y/N agreed.
“Coffee and my girls, all I need” He said with a smile.
As they sat down for their breakfast they suddenly heard a loud bang and yelling at the front door. Suddenly their door was knocked down and the man that had once again put them through hell was facing him.
“Where is my grand daughter!?” He screamed.
Gibbs grabbed his gun quickly from the safe and Pushed Y/N with Amelia in her arms behind him.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Gibbs yelled and moved further between his girls and the man.
“I’m here from my grand daughter!” He lunged forward and Y/N thought quickly throwing the freshly brewed coffee at him, giving her time to get Amelia out of the room and lock them both in the bathroom, calling 911.
By the time Y/N was off the phone, she heard a gun shot and huddled Ami closer to her until Jethro knocked on the door “it’s me it’s safe.”
He whispered and Y/N leaned enough to unlock the door while huddling Amelia close. Gibbs pushed in and scooped his girls in his arms.
“He’s gone” he said and kissed her head. “We’re safe.”
“Gone gone?” She asked.
He nodded “pulled a gun on me, officers saw it. It’s already been declared self defense... it’s over.”
She nodded and snuggled into him allowing Amelia to cling to them both as he continued to sooth them both.
“We need to head to NCiS to for debrief and report officially.”
“Bad man gone? We see my Ziva?”
“Yeah baby the bad man is gone and we’ll see your Ziva and uncles probie and Tony.”
“Yayyy daddy keep us safe”
“Always” Gibbs said as he snuggled her close.
The Gibbs family showed up and NCIS a little worse for wear. Y/N was holding onto Amelia pretty tight, she clung back around her neck even tighter and had her little hand around her dad’s finger as they walked.
Gibbs was very agitated and y/N could tell. He separated and went to debrief with the director.
Y/N and Amelia say and Gibb’s desk with Ziva and the rest of the team when Gibbs came out. “I’m done with this, you should have done more they heard Gibbs scream and slam the door, his flip phone bouncing off the floor.
“Gibbs” director Vance shouted as Y/N and Tony stood up to go after Gibbs and Amelia became crying.
“Jethro!” Y/N yelled as she and and Tony caught up to him as he reached the elevator.
“I’m fine!” He grunted.
“You’re not” Tony said
“You’re shaking” y/n pointed out and held his hand. He shook her off and gruffly said “I am fine.”
“Boss you’re not. You need to get yourself together.” Tony said
“For us, for me and your daughter” she said and Gibbs looked up to where Amelia was crying in ziva’s arms.
He sniffed and nodded his head taking Y/N’s hand.
“I scared her”
“We’re all scared, we need you. It’s okay if you’re scared but we need you.”
He nodded again and y/N started to pull him toward the desks
“will you hear us out? Let us help you? Please?” Y/N asked as he scooped Amelia from Ziva.
“Peas let us help poppa! We no want you be angy! Me and momma give you huggies and we all feel better!” She squeaked as she hugged him. “Get help for mealia poppa!” She said nuzzling into him and he could feel the last of his walls breaking down.
“I’m sorry I yelled baby! I’m so sorry.” He sniffled and held onto her and Y/N’s hand.
“It’s Otay poppa! Me and momma and da team help you!”
“That’s right boss we’re here” Ziva said and Tony and McGee nodded.
“Jethro” y/n whispered. “Needing help, needing medication or a counselor isn’t weak.”
“I know” he whispered. “You’re the strongest person I know I just, I shouldn’t need all that to protect you.”
“You don’t need that to protect us but you do need help to manage the anxiety of the situation. We all do. And most of all we need you. So please do whatever it takes to make sure we have that?”
He nodded and hugged his girls to him “anything for you both.”
“We can all go together tonight, I’ll call in an emergency appointment, please?”
Gibbs nodded and looked at his team.
“We’ll wrap this up and we’ll deliver dinner to your house tonight” ducky insists.
“Thank you all” Gibbs whispered as he and his girls got on the elevator.
“Thank you for sticking by me, I’m so sorry I scared you.” Gibbs said as he guided his girls towards the car.
“Poppa no scary” Amelia said “poppa saved us and was angry at scary guy!”
“Yup poppa is our hero!” Y/n said
“Momma was pretty brave today too, I taught you well but where’d that coffee trick come from.” He smiled.
“Needed to protect our baby bear” she chuckled and ticketed Amelia’s side.
Gibbs smiled whispering “I love you momma bear”
“And we’re both very glad we have you as the poppa bear to our momma and baby bear!”
Gibbs smiled and kissed Y/N before driving home.
About 2 weeks after the incident at the Gibbs home and the impromptu intervention, things were looking up for the Gibbs family. Gibbs, Y/N and Amelia had all been attending counseling, together and separately, whatever any of them needed.
Gibbs was getting back into the swing of taking his medication and finally feeling safer and more relaxed about Amelia not being right near him. There were tough days for all involved but they always had each other to lean on.
Lately when Gibbs was working on his boat the girls would sneak away to Amelias room to work on a “secret project” or “the -ecret propject” as Amelia called it. Gibbs played along and smiled after Y/N told him she promised she’d give his first mate back to help on his boat as soon as the project was finished.
Gibbs knew Father’s Day was coming up and couldn’t deny he was pretty excited for their “propject”. So he would take Sniper down the basement with him instead of his girls to keep him company.
While Gibbs and His puppy son were having bonding time with the boat, the girls were hard at work on a few very special gifts and Amelia (and Y/N had been having a very hard time keeping a secret. The night before Father’s Day Y/N wrapped up the gifts in brown butchers paper and had Amelia color all over it. She hid it away and smiled as she thought about his face when he would open it.
The next morning Y/N woke up bright and early somehow succeeding in waking up before her perpetually early husband. He didn’t stay sleeping long, when she moved to get up he rasped “morning baby”
She huffed and turned to kiss him. “Good morning handsome, but it’s Father’s Day so please either go back to sleep or just lay here and pretend we woke you up in like 15 minutes. “Yes ma’am” he smiled as she got and went to leave the room before popping her head back in. “And happy Father’s Day, thanks for doing this whole parenting thing with me.” She added, causing his face to break into a big smile.
She left the room and snuck into Amelias room, kissed her head.
“Hey baby” she said and watched her daughter sleepily open her eyes.
“Hi momma” she whispered and the. Promptly added “poppa?”
Y/N giggled and answered “it’s poppa day so we’re gonna bring him coffee in bed!”
“Yayyy!” She cheered
Y/N and Amelia prepared Gibbs coffee and presents and headed upstairs.
That snuck into his and Y/N’s room and “woke” him up by kissing his cheeks.
“Well hello there my beautiful girls, and boy” he said and kissed them both, patting sniper, who had followed them in, on the head.
“HAPPY POPPA DAY POPPA!” Amelia squealed as Gibbs set his coffee down to scoop her up!
“We has presents!”
“You do?” Gibbs asked with a smile as Y/N set them down for Amelia to give him.
“We worked really hard on these ones huh meals? We started a few months ago.” Y/N said as Gibbs began to open the larger package leaving out that they had actually started this project when they were in protective custody, to help them not miss him so much.
As he tore the paper he saw 2 scrap books and couldn’t help but smile as he flipped through the first one that said family.
There were over a dozen decorated pages with pictures of his family. Every group he’d ever called his family in fact. Old pictures of when he was a boy, pictures with Mike franks and dwayne pride from his early days of NCIS, pictures with Shannon and Kelly, pictures of his current NCIS team with hand written notes from each of his 3 agents and plenty of pictures of him, Amelia, and Y/N. On the back page was a picture Amelia had drawn (with Y/N’s help) of all the people in her family. Gibbs teared up when he saw it included a scribbled frame in stick figure Amelia’s hand labeled “Shannon and my sister Kelly”.
“Poppa you like it?” Amelia peeped as she climbed up to wipe his tears.
“I love it baby! Thank you so much. He said as he smiled at Y/N.
“Momma you said da other one would make poppa cry!” She giggled as she went to sit in her mom’s lap so her dad could look at the second book.
“All happy tears though” y/n clarified as she kissed her head.
Gibbs picked up the second book and quickly understood why Y/N would say he’d cry. One the front cover were bright stickered letters that said “Gibbs’ girls” and smaller silver font that said “a picture book of proof that you’re the best dad ever”
The tears came as he opened the first page and saw 2 pictures, one of Amelia and himself sanding his boat, and one of Kelly and him sanding a boat. With decorations and Y/N’s hand writing that said “2 girls lucky enough to be their dad’s ‘first mate’.
Gibbs looked up and pulled both his girls into a hug. “I love it” he whispered.
“We used pictures we knew you were okay with sharing with us and they are all copied. Originals are safe in their boxes.” Y/N explained.
“What could be better than a picture book of all of my girls huh?” He smiled as he turned to her page that proudly showcased photos of all 4 of his girls.
“We were hoping you’d tell us the stories of some of them” y/N said and Gibbs nodded as he began telling a story about riding horses with Kelly.
“Poppa one more!” Amelia peeped after his story.
“Another gift?” He asked an took the small box from her.
“Yup, this one we didn’t hand make, but it’s still special” y/N explained.
Gibbs opened the box to see a silver with a small silver tag holding a link of chain together, the tags had the initials K and A etched in it, and on the back that laid against his arm it said “#1 dad to Kelly and Amelia Gibbs”
He couldn’t even talk he was so loved by the gift.
“Thank you” he said as he tucked both of them under his arm.”
“We wanted you to know how lucky all your girls were and are to have you J” Y/N said with a kiss to his cheek as Amelia added “best poppa Eva”
“I don’t know what I ever did to deserve any of you.” He said as Y/N clasped the bracelet on. “But I am so lucky.”
The Gibbs’ spent that day enjoying and celebrating being a family, as well as visited and calls from each of the team to their ‘work dad’ and Y/N put it. Gibbs couldn’t have asked for a better ‘poppa day.”

summary: in which your best friend deku shows up at your dorm late at night due to kacchan locking him out. he asks for bandages to stabilize his newly-healed scars, and you ask to kiss them.
genre: fluff !! <33
Tumblr media
it went without a doubt that deku had been to recovery girls’ office more times than anyone else at the academy. it hurt, honestly; each time you saw his still-healing figure emerge from the little swing of her door, a sharp pang reverberated starkly through your chest, for though the freshly-scarred over wounds didn’t diminish his beauty in the slightest, you simply couldn’t deny that an empty eddy of sadness settled in you whenever he was in such a state.
and unfortunately for you, he was constantly in it.
his body could only take so much. and he was still so young too—the very same held true for your heart.
it’s been that way ever since the two of you had first entered ua as shining, eager students. though in all fairness you had to admit, he was...different from the very beginning. even as the prelude to his eventual rising and growth in his quirk, he had shone with a certain unmatched brilliance ever since the entrance exams. and over the years you spent together, you had watched him persevere so passionately towards the glow of his ultimate goal; to be a hero who can help others. little did he know just how much he already had. he had always been so excruciatingly oblivious and aloof to even the evidence and affects of his own kindness, and you hated the fact that so many tended to take advantage of it. of him.
though, of course, this did not mean that he was weak in any form. no, if anything he was quite the polar opposite—he had proved it time and time again, and yet it didn’t mean that he couldn’t get hurt too. the dull aching of tiredness ringing in his eyes, the one he tries to desperately to mask, the ragged marks scattered across the pale valleys of his once-scar-barren skin; he wasn’t immune to pain, to injury. and yet, he fought. you never truly understood that about him, the way he continued to put himself through the pain, to push himself, even, past his limits and then some—
plus ultra. and now his arms were all but littered with rough scars of diluted white and blunt tan.
nevertheless, truth be told, you actually admired it a great deal. his sheer determination, the purity of his motives, it was more than laudable. despite all of it, you truly couldn’t help but feel this...magnetic urge to help him. protect him. if you could soothe the pain in any way, even if it would be but a temporary relief—
three knocks clack on the door.
you and izuku’s secret door code—just a silly little something the two of you made up a few months after the dorm system had been put into motion, and all so you could sneak out to the grass-flooded yards of the building and train together.
naturally, you open the door.
“ heyyy there you are! “
your head perks up at the cheery jingling of his voice, all drafts of exhaustion and sleep deprivation washing away almost instantaneously. he might as well be the very personification of caffeine at that point, despite how direly he needed it himself.
the starry shine of his eyes meets with yours as a diluted sanguine seeped colour into his face. he turns his head away awkwardly.
you lean against the doorframe, smiling at him. “ deku...you didn’t tell me we’d be training today. plus it’s a little late right now, don’t you think? i’m already in my pajamas. “
“ yeah, um, sorry about that. kacchan...kinda locked me out. “
“ he what? “
“ he locked me out. “
“ how does that even—don’t you have separate rooms? “
“ well, yeah, but we were racing down the halls after glass today and he...got to my room before i could. well, honestly i have no clue what he’s doing over there. “ he laughs, rubbing the back of his neck.
“ oookay then. little concerning, i won’t lie. “ your shoulders lift in a shrug, arms crossing in front of your chest as your shy laugh matches his.
“ so i was wondering if...you know...i could maybe stay here for a bit? “ his voice wavers subtly, though you’re quick to catch it. the tips of his ears flush with a deepened pink.
you can’t help but silently gush about how cute he looked.
you’re quick to snap out of that too. eyes bursting open with a brilliant shock, you notice he’s fiddling nervously with his fingers as you remain absolutely, positively frozen in place.
“ i’m—what? “
his countenance immediately shifts to one of sheer embarrassment. flustered, he begins to frantically wave his hands in front of him, as if to put some sort of considerable distance between his panicking self and your seemingly-composed demeanour. and as if that would do anything to deescalate the tension which was only progressively building between your equally-timid selves at this moment.
“ ohmygod i didn’t mean it in a weird way or anything! i’m sorry, i’m sorry, i’ll just—i’ll just go— “
you slide against the wood a little bit, pushing your weight against the slightly-agape door, so it swung open even further to reveal the, admittedly, fairly-messy state of your room. draped carelessly on the side of your bed, a sweater you had taken off earlier because the temperature of your room had suddenly decided to heat up an unreasonable amount. countable cups holding shallow pools of hour-old drinks scattered throughout nearly every shelf. a creased textbook splayed out, cover up on your desk.
yep. definitely looked like someone’s lived here.
“ i mean...you could come in if you want. no one’s stopping you. it’s a little messy though, i haven’t found much time to properly clean it yet, with exams coming soon and stuff. “ a small smile accompanies your growing blush, despite how much you were trying to play it off as nonchalantly as possible.
psh, right. as if letting him in your room—something you had never done prior in the history of your friendship—wasn’t a big deal in the slightest.
his eyes shoot wide as his arms flail about. you have to keep yourself from laughing at his silliness.
“ uhm, i mean...only if that’s okay with you! “
“ yeah, yeah, of course! you need a place to stay for now, after all. who knows when bakugou’s gonna let you back in? “
“ yeah, i guess you’re right. well, i mean, if you really don’t mind— “
you playfully roll your eyes, giggling as you shove him into your room.
“ oh, quit it with the politeness. you’re too nice, you know that? “
“ too...nice? “
“ too nice. “ you reiterate, giving his shoulders a little squeeze.
his head lolls to the side as he carefully lowers himself onto your bed, his sweater shifting with the subtle movement.
for a few moments, the space between you is occupied with a simple, comfortable silence. it’s refreshing, really. a welcome difference from all the boisterousness of the academy. you loved the action and everyone’s energy, of course, but sometimes what you really needed was really just a simple break from everything. to do nothing but exist for a little while, to simply be without the constant pressure of having to get up and jump into action all the time. just for a few moments. and so you relished in these said moments spent with him, for who knows when the next time you could ever be with him like this again would be?
and then his voice fills that void of silence, but you’re not disappointed in the slightest.
“ hey. “
“ yeah? “
“ you don’t happen to have any extra bandages, do you? “
“ bandages? for what? “
he clenches his fist, flexing the muscles in his arm. “ for...stability. just in case. i can’t afford for my arms to get hurt more. “
“ oh. well, uhm...i think i have a few spares in my drawer! “ you push yourself off the bed, leaving the comfort the soft sheets brought about, pulling open a tiny drawer. taking out a transparent box of bandages, you jump back onto the plushness, sitting cross-legged directly across from midoriya, who’s already presenting his arm.
your lips silently part as your fingers wrap themselves around the thick ivory fabrics of bandage, rolling them around so you could wrap them around him.
another pause of wordless silence falls.
“ hey deku? “
“ yeah? “
“ could i...could i kiss your scars? “ you whisper, afraid that he’d get mad, though you knew he was anything but the type to do such a thing.
the meadow depths of his eyes kindle a cozy hearth within you as his initial surprise quickly softens, melting away into what could only be described as the most endearing smile to exist.
“ sure. “
jagged patches and uneven streaks of faded cloud white and prominent earthy tans decorate his arms, and you can’t help but bring the rosiness of your lips to meet them. you decide begin with the ones littered along his fingers.
one kiss for the scar resting within the curved dip between his thumb and index.
“ for every time you used just a flick of your fingers to defend everyone back then, when you didn’t even have full control over your quirk. “
a longing sigh leaves him as he reminisces briefly on the memory. you place a soft kiss upon the scar resting at the side of his pinky.
“ for every fist you made with this hand, for every punch you’ve delivered in the name of other’s safety. “
a drop splashed onto his arm, trickling down and tainting the scars etched into his forearm with a subtle, diaphanous sheen. you look up through your lashes, and a prominent gloss coats the kindness of his dark emeralds. your hand comes up to carefully caress his cheek, cupping it gently as the pad of your thumb swipes beneath his eye, wiping away the upcoming tear. your features are knitted together in concern.
“ are you okay? i can stop if you want me to— “
he takes your hand in both of his, squeezing as if to keep you there forever. “ no, don’t. please.“
it’s a tiny whisper, a softened plea into the dark quiet of the night, as if he were ashamed for wanting to be taken care of. your brows curve downward as you pull your twined hands to your lips, tenderly planting your lips where your skin kissed his.
“ hey, hey. it’s okay. it’s okay. “ you hush him, running your free hand through his thick tendrils of vivid, verdant green.
he leans into your touch, nodding at you as if to urge you to continue, which you gladly accept.
you shift a little closer to him, kissing the thick mark of serration painted into the skin of his wrist.
“ for every countless moment you’ve sacrificed for your dream. “
another kiss to the one just above it.
“ for every hour bled into the night that you spent helping me train. “
your fingers dance along his arm, finally stopping at the scar stretching from his elbow and dragging upwards. as per routine, your lips come down to delicately kiss it.
“ for every ‘ plus ultra! ‘ you’ve ever passionately shouted. “
little giggles left the both of you at that.
your touch trails to the scar just beside it, kissing it as well.
“ for every life you’ve ever saved. “
you look him in the eye. holding his arm like this, you were so close to him. and yet, you didn’t want to pull away. if anything, it was the very last thing you would ever want to do. he matched your stare, a certain sense of longing displaying in your gaze as it reflects off of his. the prolonged stare lasts longer than it probably should, longer than what best friends should probably look at each other this closely, this intimately for. the moonlight dimly shines through your window.
and then it happens.
his lips collide with yours in a captivating symphony, hands going straight to twirl through the locks of your hair as you wrap yours in a loose loop around his neck. everything feels as though it had all snapped into place, and the tension you had felt before was all completely dissipated now, displaced into the passion in which this kiss exuded. it was earth-shattering, galaxy-shredding. it felt as if even pain itself could never reach either of you, not in this moment.
this moment was for the both of you, and no one else. in this moment, in his arms, nothing and no one could hurt you.
he pulls away, stunned, lips parted with a saturated red. you stare at him with just about the same level of blankness, of utter shock at what you two had just done.
but then the realization catches up with him, and he is pulled out of the daze. much to your surprise, he doesn’t move away. if anything, he pulls you closer, enveloping both your hands within his just as he did before.
and just as you had done earlier, he brings them to his lips.
“ and that’s for every ‘ i love you ‘ i’ve ever wanted to say to you but never had the guts to. “

Don't worry your not the only one that got depressed, six was evil all along.😭
I am fascinated by Six’s character.
She was held prisoner for weeks by the Hunter for unknown reasons; the music box being her only comfort. She has severe trust issues and hates being reliant on other people.
Her first act of creepy sadism is when she pounced on a bully’s back and crushed his head with her bare hands. The next thing was breaking the fingers of the mannequin arm, the third thing was her warming her hands during the Doctor’s cremation. She clearly has an evil side to her; but just know that all three instances have creatures or things that have contextually wronged her.
She helped Mono kill the Serial Killer / Hunter in the woods, but Mono pulled the trigger. She was kidnapped and hung upside down (a form of torture; and can kill a person via blood clots if up there too long) by the bullies that jumped her (who knows what else they did to her)
And the Mannequins are half alive; the arm she was plucking at was a prosthetic, not living flesh. And in Mono’s defense, they were creepy as fck and out to get him.
You actually have a choice whether to burn the doctor alive or keep him there. Either way is cruel, but you, as Mono, decide his fate. Six doesn't have to warm her hands by the fire if you don’t ignite it.
Even in the first game, Six severs the Janitor’s arms when she believes herself to be in danger. She was already held captive by the Hunter, she does not want to experience that again. She is cornered and has no choice.
When she is hungry, she progressed from bread to meat, then to a living rat when she is desperate.
Near the end, her hunger is so intense, her mind is numb. She knows normal food cannot sate her gluttony. She feasts off a living creature. She has hugged Nomes in the past, which is unnecessary for her, but she does so anyway. Out of pity, or out of sympathy for them. So consuming this Nome is something she could not control. She was so overcome with her hunger she couldn’t restrain herself.
When she consumes the lady, however, her hunger is immediately satisfied by the new power she’s obtained. She was hungry for living souls. Why she is the only child affected by this roaring hunger that leads her to the lady is still unclear; (some think she’s the Lady; kinda like Mono’s loop situation) Either way, the Lady’s powers were calling to her, and she has now obtained them.
~~
In the case of Mono, despite Six’s trust issues, she still cared for Mono. She pulled him out of the tv, she called to him, she caught him through every gap, and he even saved her from being crushed. She didn’t want to abandon him when he released the Broadcaster, but when she realized he wasn’t listening, she ran for it. (Her own survival comes first despite her bond with Mono.)
She noticed his odd reactions with the Broadcaster. She knew the tv was affecting him; even when she reached out to him from under the bed, he was clutching his head in pain from the angry tv waves emitted from the Broadcaster.
She calls out to him from the tv, and he reaches in to try and pull her out. When he finds her in the tower, he calls to her and she recognizes his smell. She scoots closer to him and offers to share the music box that she previously tried to hide from him. (Remember, this music box was her comfort item at the Hunter’s house.)
If Mono tries to hit Six with a hammer, she acts annoyed and swats him away, but not enough to hurt him. When Mono goes to destroy the music box however, she becomes enraged and very protective of it. Mono is not welcome in her room; she does not want him to destroy the box. He will be destroying her safe space.
When the deed is done, she is brought back to normal, and Six stares at Mono with her head down and shoulders tense; malicious almost.
They run away before they can be consumed. When Six reaches the end, she turns around, waiting for him. (But she doesn’t hold out her hand) She catches him like she’s always done but at the last moment; she’s saved him. But then she hesitates. She takes a good long look at him... and recoils her hand bitterly and watches as he falls.
When she emerges from the tv, she hugs herself; breathless. That’s when she sees her shadow. The shadow looks to a flyer for the Maw, and then her stomach growls.
Things didn’t change between her and Mono until he broke her music box. They’ve survived the City by sticking together, condemning him to ‘death’ was dumb, but it also means that music box was incredulously important to her. (The Lady also sings and listens to music boxes...)
Six didn’t get hungry until she was separated from her shadow, de-monsterfied, and out of the warped reality of the Radio tower.
We are missing a huge part of Six’s past. Six is keen on revenge. She is cunning, quick, smart, and a lone wolf. But she is not without kindness. (She even saved The Raincoat Girl in Very Little Nightmares.)
Mono did something that she considers unforgivable. Something to sever her trust and see him as a threat or a source of pain/misery for her. (whether she knows he’s the Broadcaster or not could also hold bearing on her decision, but it's unclear if she knows.)
Six is not pure evil, but she is definitely complex, mysterious, and also a force not to be trifled with.

part 015/015 "the real hero"
previous part
masterlist
word count nearly 9k whoops
an: okay so... this is long and honestly... be prepared for an ending that took me days to write. i do not take any ownership on dialogue/scenes used from endgame, and i tried to make it original as well... anyways, here's the final part, and i can't wait to see what y'all think of the ending :3 oop i cried three times in this so be ready.
Was this actually going to work? Were the Avengers really about to get everyone back? According to Tony.. No. There were too many factors against it.
You tried to talk to him about it that night, but Tony avoided the conversation like the plague. By the morning Tony had disappeared and you were set to head back to the Compound that evening. You hadn’t heard from anyone if they had gotten anywhere beyond Tony’s involvement but it raised the question.. Who would even be able to make it work besides him? Hank Pym had been blipped, and as far as you knew this must be outside of Banner’s expertise. Tony was avoiding you, and that bugged you.
You understood the hesitation, but you knew how tore up he was about losing the Parker kid, even to this day. Morgan and Pepper were his world, this was his fresh start, so if it didn’t work then it was all for nothing. But what if it did? Then everyone would be back, and things would go back to how they were.
You zipped your bag shut and reached for your phone that laid on the bed. There were no new messages and you couldn’t help but sigh when there was a light tap on the door frame behind you. You glanced over your shoulder before tossing your phone into the bag and picking it up, and facing your brother fully. “Look who decided to say goodbye.”
“Got everything?” Tony asked and motioned his hands. “Clothes, toiletries-”
“I have everything,” you reassured him. “Was that all or.. Do you wanna talk about it?”
Tony sighed and shoved his hands into his pockets. You dropped your bag to the floor and sat down on your bed, and pat the spot next to you. Tony pushed himself off the door frame and ended up by your side, and you hit him with your shoulder. “Go on old man.”
“I hate it when you call me that,” Tony grumbled before he sighed and looked at you. “I just don’t see it working. And I can’t risk losing all of this.”
“I get that Tony, I really do,” you replied. You slid closer to him and snaked your arm through his and rested your head against his arm. “What you have here it’s.. Well I haven’t seen anything like it since mom and dad.”
“But you want me to figure it out,” Tony said. You sighed and looked up at him.
“I just.. I want to know if you really think it won’t work.”
Tony sighed and shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know.”
“It’s never been explored, I get that,” you told him. You unlatched yourself from his side and stood, and grabbed your bag before placing a hand on your brother's shoulder. “I have to get back and see what they’ve come up with though.”
Tony placed his hand over yours and gave you a tight squeeze. He spent the rest of the day with one question on his mind.
Would it work?
When you got back to the Compound the sun was nearly setting, and you sat in your car after switching the engine off. You pulled out the velvet box from your bag and ran your thumb over the top a couple times before pushing the lid open and staring at the contents. The ring inside still had a gleam to it, and you smiled a bit at it. You snapped the box shut and got out the car with your bag in tow, and headed inside. There was a strange brown van parked in the large hangar that made you slow your pace a bit, but you shook it off and continued on your way to the common room. As you got closer you could hear more and more chatter, and prepared yourself for what you were about to walk in on.
“I only have enough Pym particles for a few more goes,” you could hear Scott saying. “So I hope you were able to figure it out.”
“I got it down.. Mostly,” another voice said. It sounded almost like.. Banner?
When you came around the corner you were met with what looked like equations, workarounds, and everyone’s back to you. You had heard about “Professor Hulk” (that’s what his students called him at least) but you hadn’t seen Banner since after the blip. It was definitely, well, something. You came to a halt and couldn’t help but smile. “I see you guys have made progress since I saw you.”
Everyone turned around and Natasha approached with a smile. “Did he come around?”
“No,” you admitted. “He has a family now Nat, they mean the world to him.. And he doesn’t think it’ll work.”
“Well,” Nat looked back at Banner before he moved out of the way. “We might have a start.”
Bruce (Hulk?) explained everything. Tomorrow they would attempt time travel by sending Scott back to the 1950’s, and pull him right back. He said it would be easy, and checked his work multiple times to prove it. It sounded plausible, but until the morning no one would really know if it could work. Your nerves were shot at just the thought of it, and decided to make yourself some tea. You weren’t a huge fan, so as you dipped your tea bag into the hot water of your mug, the smell made you shake your head.
“You should try adding some honey.”
You glanced up from your mug at Steve walking into the kitchen. He stopped at a cabinet and pulled out a container filled with golden honey. He made his way to your side and set it on the counter, and you graciously took it and swirled some of it into the steaming cup. You lifted the cup to your lips and took a small sip, and turned to rest your hip against the counter and face Steve. “You think it’ll work?”
“It has to,” Steve said. His hand came up to rub one of your arms. “We owe it to everyone we lost to at least try.”
You nodded at his words and tapped your mug lightly in thought, and something surged through you. You set the mug down and reached into your pocket and pulled out the velvet box he had given you just days prior. Steve felt his heart stop at the sight, and his stomach twisted as you placed it on the counter between you both.
“I know you said you’d give me as much time as I needed, but.. I don’t need time to decide my answer.”
“I’m sorry,” Steve mumbled. “I guess I read too much into things-”
“Steve,” you cut him off from even finishing that thought. You placed your right hand up on his cheek, and Steve met your gaze. “The answer is yes.”
“Yes?” He asked quietly, and you nodded.
“Yes,” you repeated, and couldn’t help but giggle when a smile spread over his face. Steve pulled you into his arms like you were going to disappear right in front of him. When he set you back down you watched as he grabbed the velvet box and opened it, and pulled the ring out. He gently grabbed your left hand and as he slid the ring onto your finger, it felt like both of you weren’t breathing. You held your hand up to look at the gold band and diamond on your finger, and Steve’s smile fell.
“Are you okay?”
You met his gaze again and nodded. “I just never thought this would ever happen for someone like me.”
Admitting that to him felt like a weight had been lifted off your shoulders. Steve’s look turned more understanding and he took your hand and placed a chaste kiss to your fingers. He pulled you into his embrace and your arms wrapped around his waist and head laid on his chest, while his arms held your body close. You had the sneaking suspicion the last few months that Steve did know what had been running through your mind, and this felt like confirmation. Your confession was absolute, and Steve understood it. And he would spend everyday making sure you knew you were worth it until the end.
It was the first night you spent together, welcoming one another’s embraces in a quiet and tender moment. To you, you had felt like it would be one of the last quiet moments before finding out if time travel was possible, because from there it would be non-stop until they got everyone back. You knew it, and Steve did too. One last night of quiet, then one last time saving the world. So Steve took residence in your room once more, sharing your bed and holding you so you knew you were worth this.
The next morning came too soon, peeking through your shades until FRIDAY opened them higher like you had scheduled. Steve traced his fingers up and down your arm that draped across him for awhile before duty called. Begrudgingly you both changed and went to the hangar hand in hand, only separating when you got in view of everyone. Natasha though never misses anything.
“Good morning love birds,” she quipped while typing away on a computer near Banner. As you two neared you came to her side and nudged her with your arm gently to take over.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you replied back and met Steve’s gaze with a little smile.
“The ring on your finger says different,” she threw back your way. Banner looked down over the exchange and saw what Natasha had been talking about.
“What? Since when!” He asked.
“Recently,” Steve offered. Banner tapped his rather large hand on your back and shot a finger Steve’s way.
“I always knew you two would work it out, congratulations.”
“Speaking of working out,” Natasha cut in. “Are we ready?”
“Almost there,” Banner said as he worked on a couple more calculations. “I’m going to go over this with (Y/N).. Cap do you mind setting the breakers and getting the emergency generators ready just in case?”
“Got it,” Steve said. With one final glance between you both he casted a smile and walked back into the compound. Banner hovered over your shoulder and walked you through the equations running through the sequence, and also working in the Pym particles into that. You followed it for the most part, but for some reason something didn’t add up, you just couldn’t put your finger on it. Tossing caution to the wind (you weren’t a genius like Banner was of course) the sound of footsteps echoed in the hangar, and Steve made his way back.
“Alright, here we go. Time travel test number one. Scott you can fire up the uh, the van thing,” Banner instructed. Scott, in what looked like a retro Ant Man suit, powered up the Quantum tunnel and you double checked Banner’s work.
“Breakers are set, emergency generators are on standby,” Steve said as he walked back to your and Natasha’s side.
“Good. ‘Cause if we lose the grid I don’t want to lose Tiny here in the 1950’s,” Banner said lightly. Everyone’s gaze went to him in shock.
“Excuse me?” Scott asked from near the van.
“He’s kidding!” Natasha told him, before turning and whispering to the group. “You can’t say things like that!”
“Yeah, just a bad joke!” Banner said loudly for Scott, and offered him a thumbs up. Scott nodded hesitantly and smiled nervously.
“You were kidding right?” You asked. Banner lowered his voice again.
“I have no idea. We’re talking about time travel here. Either it’s all a joke or none of it is,” Banner explained, though it didn’t calm any of your hesitations. Banner looked back to Scott and gave him a nod. “We’re gonna send you back a week, let you walk around an hour, then bring you back in 10 seconds. Make sense?”
“Perfectly not confusing,” Scott tried to level with humor.
“Good luck, Scott. You got this,” Steve offered in encouragement which Scott gave a more confident smile.
“You’re right. I do, Captain America.”
You met Scott’s gaze for a moment before giving him a nod of approval, and with Banner’s direction you pressed a button and Scott disappeared into the tunnel. Silence fell over the group, and you exchanged glances with Steve, who put his hand on the small of your back. Banner, with his arms crossed keeping track of time on his abnormally large watch gave you a nod.
“On the count of three. Three.. Two.. One!”
In the same sequence as before you pressed the button and the Quantum Tunnel spit a figure back out… But it was not the same one you sent in. They were younger, and your heart dropped as Banner moved you out the way.
“Guys? Uh this doesn’t feel right,” the teen said, and everyone’s attention shot to Banner.
“What is this?” Steve asked.
“Who is that?” Natasha asked next and Banner mumbled to himself.
“Jesus, is that Scott?” You asked this time and Banner huffed.
“Yes, it’s Scott!” Banner exclaimed. Before anyone could get a grasp on the situation, Banner hit buttons and teen Scott was sucked back into the Quantum Tunnel, only for an older man to be spit back out.
“My back,” the old Scott said and Steve shuffled next to you to face Banner fully.
“Can you bring him back?” Steve asked and Banner tapped the buttons furiously.
“I’m working on it!”
Tensions were high as old Scott got sucked back in and in a flash another body was spit out. The Ant-Man suit had fallen to the floor and inside was..
“It’s a baby,” you said matter of factly.
“It’s Scott,” Banner countered.
“As a baby!” Nat said again, matter of factly.
“He’ll.. Grow,” Banner offered and Steve shook his head.
“Bring Scott back!” Steve ordered. And Banner looked to Natasha and motioned to the generators.
“When I say kill the power, kill the power,” he instructed her. Natasha nodded before rapidly walking towards the generator and grabbing a hold of the lever. You came up by Banner’s side again to see what he was doing and he pointed at Nat. “Kill it!”
Nat pulled the power and out shot regular Scott, which made everyone sigh in relief. Scott, on the other hand, stood there in disbelief and admitted something quietly. “Somebody peed my pants.. But I don’t know if it was baby me or old me.”
You glanced Steve’s way and offered a sad smile. Tony was right, this wasn’t going to work. Natasha came back to the group and mumbled a thank god, while Steve wrapped his arm around your shoulders.
It wasn’t going to work. It was a grim thought, and everyone got their hopes up for nothing. Though Banner still tried to remain optimistic, and threw his hands up in triumph.
“Time travel!” Banner exclaimed, only earning a few shakes of the head. Steve motioned his head in a direction and off you two went, leaving behind Nat and Banner, and Scott who didn’t know what to do about his situation.
Steve had led you outside into the sunlight, where he removed himself from your side and let you walk out of the shade and close your eyes. He felt defeated, and took a seat on a hard surface and casted his gaze to the ground.
There was no victory, not even an opportunity for it. He had to once again come to terms with the fact he would never see Bucky again, or Sam, or Wanda. Wakanda would never get their King or Princess back, and the kid from Queens would never get to step foot back in the city. Steve was so lost in thought he nearly missed what you said.
“Holy shit,” you said out loud. Steve averted his gaze back to you, only to see what you had referred to. A car was fast approaching, and he knew just who was behind the wheel. Steve was by your side before the car came to a halt before you and the window rolled down.
“Why the long faces?” Tony asked.
You couldn’t help the smile that broke out over your face. There would only be one reason why Tony would come here (voluntarily)... He figured it out.
“Let me guess.. Lang turned into a baby,” Tony said and you covered your mouth to hide your grin. Steve nodded beside you and shoved his hands into his pockets.
“Among other things, yeah. What are you doing here?” Steve asked. Tony removed his sunglasses and tossed them onto the passenger seat before stepping out the car. He walked around the back, and opened the trunk.
“That’s the EPR Paradox. Instead of pushing Lang through time, you must’ve pushed time through Lang. It’s tricky, dangerous even. Somebody should’ve cautioned you on it,” Tony went on explaining. Steve smiled a bit and nodded at him.
“You did,” Steve admitted and Tony put his hand over his chest, acting shocked.
“Did I? Well thank God I’m here,” Tony replied while fishing something out of his pocket. It looked like a funky little watch, which he promptly tossed your way and you caught easily. “Regardless, I fixed it. That is a fully functioning Time-Space GPS.”
“Son of a bitch,” you mumbled to yourself looking at the device in your hands.
“And don’t think I didn’t notice that,” Tony pointed from where he was. You looked at where he was pointing and smiled at the sight of the ring on your finger. “I just want peace, if you’re okay with it.”
“Of course I am Tony,” Steve confirmed and Tony sighed as he lowered his voice for the two of you.
“We got a shot at getting these stones, but I gotta tell you my priorities. Bring back what we lost? I hope so, yes of course. Keep what I got?” Tony paused while focused on you and nodded at him. “I have to, at all costs.. and maybe not die trying would be nice.”
“Sounds like a deal,” Steve agreed and offered Tony his hand, and you watched them shake on the promise. Tony pulled one last thing from the trunk of his car and Steve looked uncertain to take it. “Tony-“
“Why? He made it for you,” Tony insisted. And finally.. Steve took the shield once more.
“Looks good, Cap,” you commented, earning one of those looks from Steve and Tony shut his trunk.
“Ew. Please I don’t need to hear that.”

The Compound was about to be bustling once more. It was one of the more festive dinners the Avengers compound had seen in awhile, nearly every seat occupied and chatter among everyone. Pizza was the easier choice for the evening, and you had found yourself looking for a seat near Nat, Tony, and Steve who had engrossed themselves in early talks.
Clint had proven that Tony’s way of time travel worked, though it had taken a couple weeks to get it ready. You learned the calculations for entry points and exits, then re-entry back to the present. It was confusing, but the thought of getting the world back to normal was worth the late night lectures with Tony.
So now it was down to figuring out where and how to get all the stones as they are scattered throughout time. There wasn’t a clear path though, not yet anyway. But as you came up to the trio you could hear them still discussing it.
“I’m so glad we have the Three Stooges figuring this out,” you commented as Steve welcomed you to sit in his lap. Tony tossed a napkin your way and you chuckled before taking a glance around the room. “It’s nice to see all these faces again.”
“Hopefully soon it’s everyone,” Natasha offered. Her hope never died these last five years, and it made you nod in agreement as you bit into your slice of pizza. One of Steve’s hands ran up and down the side of your hip, and everything felt a little more normal.
“Lang only has enough particles for ten round trips, one for each of us,” Tony went on about, though you quickly swallowed the bite of pizza you had to inject.
“What about me-“
“No,” Steve and Tony said in unison. You narrowed your gaze at them both and took an angry bite of your pizza. It was ridiculous that they made the decision you were to stay here and track them on the time heist.
“Thor and Rocket could go for the Reality Stone in 2013,” Steve offered.
“Clint and I can get the Soul Stone, Nebula and Rhodey can handle the Power Stone.. We know where those are in 2014,” Natasha said out loud.
“That still leaves three stones and four of us,” Tony sighed. You shrugged your shoulders and took a bite of the crust you had left.
“I mean if you pick the right year, there’s three stones in New York,” you said off the top of your head. When silence fell among the group and you looked up to see them all staring at you you raised a brow. “What?”
“What did you just say?” Tony asked and you blinked at him.
“I said if you pick the right year there are three stones in New York?” You replied and when everyone still looked confused you sighed. “The wizard had the Time Stone, you guys had the Space Stone aka the Tesseract, and Loki’s scepter had the Mind Stone.”
It was silent, everyone seemed to be processing what you said when Banner came up to the group, but Tony was already in motion. “There’s only one pizza left can I have it-“
“Jolly Green take a look at this,” Tony said as he whipped out a small device and displayed images in the room. His actions made everyone else look on as he moved pictures, air typed words, and took a step back to show everyone. Tony put his hands on his hips and Banner looked surprised.
“Shut the front door.”
“This is it,” Natasha stood and looked on. “This is how we get all the stones in one go.”
For once you were glad to have caught up on all those confidential SHIELD documents on what you had missed.

No..
No no no. No it wasn’t supposed to be like this. This wasn’t supposed to happen, no one was supposed to die.. This was supposed to fix everything, but not this. No.. No it wasn’t true. What Clint was saying couldn’t be true.
He fell to his knees, he had to be picked up from the floor as he recounted what happened. A soul for a soul, he said. It shouldn’t have been the price but it was, he said.
It couldn’t be true.
The thought just ran over and over again in your mind the rest of the day. Everyone had gone to the lake and discussed it more but that one line just kept running over you. Clint insisted there was no other way, there was no give backs.
She bet her life on it.
Tony crafted a gauntlet to house the stones in. He carefully placed each like where Thanos had them originally. He was precise, this was delicate after all. Someone died to make this happen.
Steve was distant. You chalk it up to being focused on the situation at hand.
But who should snap?
Thor offered but was met with (quickly) apprehension from everyone. Tony said he was in no condition to do so, so Bruce said it should be him.
“You saw what those stones did to Thanos. It almost killed him. None of you could survive,” Banner said.
“How do we know you will?” You asked. It was one of the first times you had spoken up in days, and seemed to shock everyone a little bit.
Honestly, you couldn’t handle someone else dying right now.
There was no way to know for sure, but it was time to find out. This time you weren’t letting anyone tell you not to join, and you grabbed the nano suit attachment Tony had made for you. The chest pendant stuck to your shirt and like a second skin it dispersed the suit over your body, leaving your face still exposed.
You came up by Steve’s side and he glanced your way and sighed. “I don’t think this is a good idea.”
“Let me be here for this,” you said lowly. Steve didn't question you again, and strapped his shield tighter to his arm as Scott came to his side and gave him a ready nod.
“FRIDAY do me a favor and activate Barn Door Protocol will you?” tony asked.
Barn Door Protocol was simple. There were protective blast doors that closed the Compound in the event of a catastrophic event. It protected every square inch of the facility-
You get the point by now. It’s in case some shit goes down.
The room got slightly darker, and Tony gave you a nod across the room and both your helmets covered your faces. Tony projected a shield before him and Clint, and you shifted in your place.
This was it: one last mission.
Banner slowly put on the gauntlet, the metal growing over his enlarged hand, and when it fit snugly the stones began to glow and you could see their power begin to surge through him. Suddenly, Banner fell to his knee and grunted in pain.
“Take it off!” Thor hollered.
“No, wait,” Steve called over the chaos. “Bruce you okay?”
“Talk to us, Banner,” you tried to reason over the conflicting voices.
“I’m okay, I’m okay,” Bruce reassured everyone and even attempted to give a thumbs up. But the scene unfolding told you (and probably everyone) that Bruce was not okay. He screamed in pain, holding his hand that housed the gauntlet and just when you thought he was going to pass out from the pain he was in--
-- He snapped.
Bruce fell to the ground and the gauntlet slid off his hand and Clint kicked it away. Steve rushes to his side and you move to do the same but Tony stops you.
“Don’t move him,” Tony instructed and Bruce gripped onto Steve’s arm.
“Did it work? Bruce asked immediately. Everyone glanced around, unsure if it did or not.
Nothing felt different, nothing screamed yes it worked. Tony iced Bruce’s affected arm and just when the dust was settling-
A bad choice of words. Suddenly everything evaporated around you. Explosions, debris, rock and dirt flying everywhere. Everything was disorienting, nothing truly felt settled for minutes. You weren’t sure how long time had passed, but there was chatter in your ear and you gasped back to life.
“We’re drowning! Does anybody copy? Mayday!” Rhodey’s voice rang a little choppy.
You groaned as you pushed yourself up, feeling the same water building around you. Rhodey, Rocket and Hulk came into view and you forced yourself up, having to crouch because of the fallen pieces of cement. You rushed over as water continued to fill the small cramped area, and came to Bruce’s side.
Your boots cemented themselves to whatever ground you stood on and helped push the cement that was threatening you all. “I got you, big guy.”
See you on the other side, man,” Rhodey said to Rocket who was next to him. The water was quickly rising, and this didn’t feel real.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
Bruce and you couldn’t bear the weight, not with the water circling your necks. It was an ironic death, because your life did flash before your eyes. Seeing your parents death, seeing Tony again, that date with Steve where he kissed you in the rain, then the flashes of Siberia, Natasha’s last smile.. You wouldn’t admit this to anyone until much later, but you welcomed this ending.
Suddenly something cupped you all and air rushed around you. The large hand hugged you all carefully, and when they released you the scene of the outside world was a punch in the stomach, but there was no time to reflect. You could see that Purple Titan from this far, and you could also make out the size of his army.
And by the looks of it, Bruce’s snap worked.
Bruce leaped out of Scott’s hand and Rhodey, back in his suit hovered with Rocket, and you landed by his side. The chants of the Wakandan tribes ring in the air, but one voice cuts over the comms in your suit and you clutch your fists.
“Avengers!” Steve calls out.
“Assemble.”
Both forces charge one another, Thanos still on the battlefield pointing his legion on. You had flown in with Rhodey by your side as both sides met in a chaotic middle, and landed before one of the ugly Sakaaran aliens and ricocheting them backwards with the repulsors in your palm. Asgardians, Wakandan forces, wizards, and fellow Avengers fought all around you. Landing by your side, your brother shot another alien backwards past you.
“You alright?” his voice projected into your suit. An alien charged you and you grabbed it around the neck and propelled yourself upwards before using the momentum to slam the body back down to the ground.
“Oh just the usual Tuesday,” you replied before someone landed beside you two.
“Mr. Stark! Hey! Holy cow-” the young kid started. You gave your brother an understanding nod, and flew back up into the air, eyes landing on an incoming Leviathan, heading straight for Clint.
“Anyone have my back with the big space worm?” You asked over the comms, while cycling through the weapon options of your suit quickly.
“I got it!” Scott called over the comms and you took a play out of your brothers book. Scott was charging forward and as the Leviathan came near the forces fighting below, he punched the space worm, and with your charge ready, a small missile shot out from your suit and into a now exposed piece of flesh and exploded the Leviathan. Scott continued on, but in your state of distraction one of the Chitauri from the ground leapt up and pulled your downwards.
Shocked, the alien slammed your back down to the ground, and with a scepter like device flourished downward to pin you. You stopped the scepter just before impacting your chest and huffed and you tried to push them off, but they’re a lot heavier than they look. Before you have time to panic, the alien is thrown off of you, and a couple shots ring through the air.
Standing above you is Bucky Barnes.
Barnes lowers his gun and looks down at you, before offering his exposed vibranium hand for you to take. Without hesitation, you grip his hand and he pulls you up but not without lingering his hand in yours before letting you go, and you give him a nod.
“Thank you,” you tell him. “That’s two I owe you.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Barnes replied. Both of your attention is pulled away when chatter erupts in your ears.
“We have incoming!” Someone shouted. Everyone turned their attention above as the looming ship Thanos arrived in began to fire. The same explosions that rocked the Compound hit the ground in the same destructive way, but the wizards (you really needed to learn the correct term for them) began to make shields to cover the people around them. You projected the shield Tony had integrated into these new suits and held it above you while Barnes shot at a couple more aliens who were still attempting to attack.
“Guess that’s only one you owe me,” Barnes said next to you and you let your helmet disappear to look at him fully.
“Did you just make a joke?” You asked and he shrugged.
“I do that sometimes,” he replied and you smiled a bit before your helmet reappeared over your face.
Above, you could just barely make out the Spider kid with the gauntlet being carried away on a Pegasus before you see them get knocked off the winged horse. But there was no telling how to get the ship to stop firing on both forces below, and that started to sit badly in the pit of your stomach. But in near perfect timing, the cannons stopped, and everyone around looked at one another in question (including you and Barnes). Your shield disappeared and the cannons moved to point upwards, and shot into the sky.
“What are they firing at?” You asked over the comms, before FRIDAY answered that something was entering the atmosphere.
In a blazing ball of glory shoots down from the sky and into a part of the ship, straight through, and then back in, all before shooting out as the ship began to crumble below her. You smiled behind your helmet before refocusing on the scene before you.
Get the gauntlet to the brown van, and put an end to Thanos once and for all.
“See you on the other side, Barnes,” you commented to him before shooting back off into the thick of it all. In a matter of seconds Thanos threw his sword towards the brown van and almost in slow motion, the gauntlet is lost in the dirt. You land besides Steve, who seemed to have almost forgot you had been here during this.
“(Y/N)-”
“We can’t let him get that gauntlet again,” you said to him, your eyes trained on your brother who was heading that way. “We can’t lose anyone else.”
Instead of arguing with you, Steve nodded in agreement and he outstretched his hand, and Mjolnir flew into his grasp, his shield on the other arm. Side by side you charged towards Thanos just as he smacked your brother away, Thor arriving at the same time. The two men teamed up to distract Thanos, and you focused your attention on the gauntlet, whose stones shined under the grim that now governed it. You could see Thanos overpower both Thanos and Steve, and with no one else in sight you picked the gauntlet up and back into the air you went. But you didn’t get very far, a large hand grabbing ahold of one of your legs and pulled you backwards, and for the first time you came face to face with the Titan who ruined everything.
Thanos used his free hand to grab a hold of your neck and released your leg, and you felt the metal of your suit dig into your sin as you gasped for air. Thanos looked you over, as if he could see your frightened expression behind your suit, and with his free hand he plucked the gauntlet from you and looked it over. His hand still was tight around your neck, and your vision began to fade before he looked back at you.
“Pathetic,” he muttered to you, before tossing you away. You weren’t sure how far you landed, but the impact shocked your body. You could feel yourself come in and out of consciousness, hazy vision of the dark clouds in the sky moving ever so slightly each time you came too. It wasn’t until the snarl of an Outrider nearing you did you finally find the strength to push yourself up, but before it lunged at you.. It disappeared into the wind like dust.
Pushing yourself up, you watched as all around all of Thanos’ different forces began to crumble away into dust. The Chitauri, the Sakaraans, and the Outriders all disappear before your very eyes in the same manner half the world did five years ago. You pushed yourself forward, over a heap of debris in what seemed like just enough time to see Thanos sit himself down in the middle of an open area. Thunder crackled above, and Thanos crumbled away into dust as well.
It.. It was over. It was really over.
Your helmet disappeared so you could see the spectacle for yourself. The only people still around were the Avengers, and everyone who helped that day (you would call them Avengers as well). You smiled a bit as your eyes landed on Steve who was focused somewhere else, but then he looked around frantically before spotting you. His expression made your chest hurt as you looked to where he had been staring previously.
No..
You could see Tony fall to the ground and people begin to surround him. There was an urgency in each step you took and when someone tried to stop you you pulled your hand from their grasp to get closer. You needed to see your brother, he had to be okay.
He just had to be.
When you finally got to his side you felt your heart stop. Peter was being pulled off the ground by Rhodey, while Pepper took his spot. She was stroking the side of Tony’s face, and whispering something to him you couldn’t hear. You found yourself taking in every detail, but still you couldn’t believe what you were witnessing. Tony stared off into the distance, his body was… It was just completely eaten up from what you knew were the stones. He was the one who snapped, and you shook your head in disbelief.
He was supposed to go home after this.
People looked at you, and Pepper glanced behind to meet your gaze. She held out her hand and you took a heavy step forward, until you kneeled down in front of your big brother… But his eyes held nothing in them anymore. Carefully you grabbed his hand that Pepper wasn’t holding and you gave him a squeeze, not really sure what to say.
With a shaky hand you reached out to stroke the side of his face that wasn’t burned, but your touch did nothing to get a response from him. You could feel the tears fall down your cheeks as you watched him barely breath, and you shook your head.
“I love you so much,” you managed before the sobs in your chest ached to be released. “I love you-”
Just as you were struggling to get the last words out, the light of his arc reactor went out. You gasped lowly as Pepper fell forward to sob into Tony’s shoulder, and someone pulled you off the ground as your sobs were just starting. Steve had pulled you into his embrace as you cried, and the somber feeling carried through everyone else.
You had lost the last piece of family you had left.

Uncertainty. That was the one thing that had settled into your life those days between the battle and Tony’s funeral. Those of you who needed it found yourselves in a hotel in the city, and each of your days blended together in the same way. You slept all day, most of the time waking up and opting to stay in bed and stare ahead.. Your eyes burned, and you didn’t know what to do with yourself.
Steve stayed with you, though it was hard on him. When you first arrived, you nearly immediately got into the bed and under the sheets, and he couldn’t coax you out for two days. He opened the blinds to the windows, but you stared blankly out, and when he came with food you told him you weren’t hungry. He tried to help, but he didn’t know how.
The day before the funeral, when he finally got you to eat oatmeal (even if it was just a couple spoonfuls) and managed to get you into the shower, he tucked you back into bed and you went to sleep once more. He stayed in the room for a while, his own thoughts heavy on his mind, before going to the one person he knew would understand him the most.
When Bucky answered the door, he gave him a sad smile and let him into his room. Steve walked in and stopped in front of the windows overlooking the city, which was now bustling with life again. Bucky came up behind him, and Steve could hear him open the mini fridge in the room and pull something out.
“How is she?” Bucky asked. Steve sighed and turned back to face his friend while crossing his arms.
“I got her to eat a bit, but Buck… I’ve never seen her like this and I.. I don’t know what to do,” Steve admitted. Bucky sat himself on the edge of his bed with a water bottle in his hand and sighed.
“You just have to be there for her, Steve,” Bucky offered. “No matter how long it takes.”
The guilt on his conscience was too much, and Steve nodded in response. He took a seat in the chair across from the bed and rubbed his hands together, all while Bucky took sips from his water and watched him closely. Bucky knew he was holding something back.
“Steve.. What’s going on in that head of yours?”
Steve looked up to meet his best friend's gaze, before looking back down to the ground. “I… I don’t think I belong here anymore, Buck.”
Bucky’s brows narrowed as he looked at his friend. Where was this coming from? Hethought you two would’ve worked things out in the five years he was gone, Bucky had only assumed so since Steve was by your side during this.. He thought Steve moved on from this kind of talk. “What do you mean Steve.”
“What if I should go back?” Steve asked him, meeting Bucky’s gaze again. “There’s a way now and… And I saw Peggy-”
“You saw Peggy?” Bucky asked, and Steve gave him a nod. “Steve now think about this… I thought you were over this, I thought you were set on making things right with (Y/N)-”
“I was,” Steve cut him off this time. “But Buck when I saw Peggy… There’s something telling me that… That it was always supposed to be her.”
“Yeah, maybe back then,” Bucky conceded. “But Steve think about now. You’re here for a reason, not back there… I thought you passed this.”
“Maybe I never was,” Steve asserted. Bucky looked over his friend, and he shook his head and stood up again.
“I think you should consider this a lot more than you have… Because there is someone really hurting right now, and she needs you,” Bucky told him. “I don’t know if you two worked it out over these last few years but Steve you need to think about this.”

Tony was… Exceptional. He was what you had always wanted to be when you grew up. And maybe that was more true now than ever.
You found yourself unable to do a lot of things the last few days, including dress yourself for this funeral. You felt sickly, but the cries had drawn themselves out and left you too tired to continue today. You were there for the entirety of Tony’s message to his family, and Steve was still by your side as Pepper set a wreath with an old arc reactor into the lake by their home.
You felt empty. Emptier and more alone than you had ever felt.
When you managed to be alone you had wandered off by yourself to Tonys’ work shed and pried it open. Dust lingered in the air, and you entered slowly with hands shoved into the pockets of the coat you had been wearing. You were chilly, probably getting sick, but you ignored the thought as you turned the light on to see better.
What you had been searching for was staring at you like it had been weeks ago. Slightly discolored, the photo of Tony and you from when you were younger screamed at you of a feeling you’d never feel again. You reached out for it with a shakiness you couldn’t control and grabbed it, and traced your fingers over the glass front before holding it to your chest in an effort to comfort the pain in your heart.
The floor echoed as someone entered, and you wiped the tears from your face as they came up behind you. They didn’t sound like Steve’s footsteps, and you turned to face the person who must’ve followed you out.
“I’m so sorry for your loss,” Bucky Barnes said to you. You found yourself nodding and looked back down at the photo you were clinging onto.
“Me too,” you admitted quietly. When you met Bucky’s gaze again he looked like he wanted to say something, but Steve came up behind him and the moment was stopped. Steve glanced between you two before refocusing on you, and he cleared his throat.
“Happy has something for you,” Steve admitted and you gave him a nod. Steve waited for you to pass him before Bucky turned his way and gave him a knowing look. Though they hadn’t discussed it since, Bucky hoped Steve had come to his senses.
Things never felt normal for you, not as soon as people seemed to hope it would. You tried to be more.. Enthusiastic. But how could you just be okay after that?
Weeks had passed since the funeral, and you didn’t feel any better. Happy had given you a drive with a message he said Tony had left for you, but you couldn’t seem to bring yourself to listen to it. Not yet, maybe ever. It was hard enough seeing his face plastered on the news, and in depth reporting on the Stark legacy, with people questioning what you would contribute in the family’s wake. Even Steve had asked you about your commitment to one another… You hate to admit it but you told him you couldn’t right now, not with this pain in your heart. He told you he understood. You weren’t sure if he noticed, but you tucked the ring he had given you back into the velvet box, and then away safely.
But things were uneasy between you two, and you did what you always do. When Bruce called with work, you accepted it. Anything to get you mind off the thoughts that ran rampant. There was one last thing that needed to be done: the stones needed to be returned.
You had memorized every detail of Tony’s work when it came to the Quantum portal. Bruce and you had replicated one in record time, and on a sunny day you stood there beside him double checking the trajectories. Steve had volunteered to return the stones, with no arguments from anyone on the matter.
“Now, remember,” Bruce explained to Steve. “You have to return the stones to the exact moment you got them. Or you're gonna open up a bunch of nasty alternative realities.”
“Don’t worry Bruce, clip all the branches,” Steve said as he messed with the com in his ear. You were too focused on the conversations that unfolded, your mind drifting off for a moment before being pulled back with Bruce setting his hand on your back.
“You okay?” He asked, and you nodded and returned to finalizing the jump.
“I’m fine,” you reassured him and looked up to see Bucky and Steve hug for a moment. Steve stepped up onto the platform and the familiar Quantum suit appeared over him. He picked up the case that had all the stones, and Mjolnir as well.
“How long is this gonna take?” Sam asked.
“For him? As long as he needs. For us? Five seconds,” Bruce explained before meeting Steve’s look. “We’ll meet you back here, okay?”
Steve looked at you, with a look on his face you couldn’t quite place. Your stomach felt like it was twisted in a knot, even though he gave a nod and looked back Bruce’s way.
“You bet,” Steve replied.
“Going quantum in three, two, one..” Bruce counted down before Steve disappeared. You intently watched his stream disappear on the monitor you had before you, and Bruce started counting again. “And returning in five, four, three two, one-”
When Steve didn’t reappear you frantically looked for his stream location, only to see it shoot past his return point. “He blew right past his time stamp-”
Bruce moved you out the way and your gaze focused on the empty Quantum portal, and you shook your head a bit. You could hear the conversations around you, but couldn’t quite make out the words being said. All you knew was Steve didn’t come back. When everyone went quiet your attention went to the three men who were focused in the distance, with Sam heading towards a figure who hadn’t been there before.
You stepped off the platform you had been working on and took a few steps in the grass closer to where Bucky was standing and watching whatever was unfolding. You had your disbelief, but that was crumbled the minute you saw Sam take the shield, and you could now make out it was an old man.
When Tony died time had all but warped together.. But what you were seeing right now had felt like the ground was taken out from under you. The older man had stood and shaken Sam’s hand, and when they looked back at Bucky, when you could see those eyes even from this far you stumbled backwards. They were Steve’s eyes.
Confusion… Panic… Hurt. Everything coursed through you at once, and ignoring the calls from whoever tried to get you to stay, to probably talk about it, you turned away from the scene and pulled the arc attachment from your pocket and desperately threw it onto your chest. The suit that you hadn’t worn since the battle appeared out your body, hid your face behind a helmet and you shot off from the ground with only one destination in your mind.
You had never used the fastest flight power Tony’s suits had to offer but you did that day for the first time. You needed to get back to the hotel you had been staying at quickly, and when you landed on the roof and your suit disappeared as you ran for the entrance to the building, you needed to find it.
Out of breath by the time you made it to your room and threw open the door and it shut behind you, you overlooked your room and couldn’t get your mind together. You hurried over to the bedside table you had hidden what you were looking for and pulled it out the housing completely, only to find it empty.
A frantic panic flooded you, and in a matter of minutes you had nearly destroyed the hotel room, overturning every piece of furniture, overlooking every crevice you could find. You rested your back against a wall and breathed heavily, before sliding down and for the first time in weeks, fresh sobs left your body.
Steve Rogers had taken his ring back. And now you were truly alone…
...In 1974, Howard Stark was going to unveil his City of the Future to the world, but was having a hard time coming up with the right words. Tony had interrupted him once, though he couldn’t hold it against the kid, he was only four and Howard worked late nights. With Maria talking about wanting another kid, Howard was doing whatever he could to set them up for success, and here he was, getting ready to record a message for them.
He just needed to get something off his chest, and he leaned back against his desk with his arms crossed before him, and searched his mind for the right words. He tapped his foot lightly before sighing under his breath.
“I’ve never been a man of many words, as crazy as that sounds. But trying to build all of this, I’ve had to put my best foot forward,” Howard started. He touched the model beside him and looked at the camera. “You don’t know it yet but your mother is talking about having another baby, and I’m… I’m looking forward to that, when it happens.
“Tony, you are too young to understand this right now, so I thought I would put it on film for you. I built this for you, and by the looks of it your brother or sister, and some day you two will realize that it represents a whole lot more than just people's inventions. It represents my life's work. This is the key to the future. I'm limited by the technology of my time, but one day you'll figure this out. And when you do, you will change the world.”
Later on Howard would go on to edit this message, just weeks before his death, to include another message. This one would go unheard for years. Until you were ready, this message sat alongside Tony’s on the drive he left for you.
“You turned five this year. When someone told me that I would become a sucker for my little girl, man did they mean it,” Howard chuckled. Something caught his attention off screen, but he looked at the camera he had set up in his study and on a rare occasion he smiled. “With Tony, he became my vision, the reason why I wanted my work to make the biggest impact on the world… So that he would have the best future. But you? You’re my aspiration. And just like Tony, I know you’re going to change the world… If you both sat through these messages, I just want you to know one last thing.
“What is, and always will be, my greatest creation... is you two."

For Family Or For Love

Pairing: adult!Remus Lupin x reader
Word count: 2492
Prompts: “Are you scared of me?” “No. Never.”
“It doesn’t matter what they think. I love you, and that’s what matters.”
Written for @johnmurphyisbisexual’s writing challenge!
Special thanks to @the-moon-and-the-book for both beta reading and coming up with the title!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The heavy door to your private chambers creaked open to reveal the room’s other occupant; your husband, Remus Lupin. He carried an enormous stack of tests to grade in one hand, two cups of coffee in the other, and he held a newspaper clenched between his teeth. He shut the door the same way he opened it; with his foot.
You leapt forward to help him, taking some of the items from where they balanced precariously in his hold, constantly on the verge of falling. He breathed a sigh of thanks, pressing a kiss to your temple as you made your way to the bed.
Upon closer inspection, you realized half the papers he had brought in were actually yours. You taught Herbology and had recently assigned an essay. You hummed in gratitude when Remus handed you a pastry and a couple of colored muggle pens. You knew the older members of the faculty preferred quill and ink, but you chose pens. They were easier to use and much less tedious to maintain.
He smiled softly, humming in acknowledgement as you both sat down to mark papers. The room lapsed into silence, the only sound being the clicking of pens and the occasional mutters of disapproval when either of you saw something you didn’t particularly like.
A tapping on the window broke you out of your concentration. You spun around, eyes searching for the source of the sound when you spotted a small brown owl perched on the windowsill, rapping its beak against the glass.
A messenger owl.
You jumped up, hurrying over to fling open the window and welcome the creature inside. The poor thing was soaked through; it was pouring outside.
“Rem, will you get me a towel for the owl?”
“Sure thing, love.” He disappeared into the adjoining bathroom and emerged moments later with a navy blue towel.
You gently wrapped the owl up in the cloth, hoping it would help the animal get warm and dry.
There was a small cylindrical vessel strapped to the owl’s back, colored a deep red, like the darkest red visible during a sunset. You undid the clasps holding it in place, popping off the cap and peering inside. The case held a sheet of paper, rolled up tightly in order to make it fit.
“Who’s it from?” Remus’s gentle voice inquired.
You didn’t reply immediately, unfurling the note and letting your eyes fly over the words first.
“My parents,” you finally answered. “They want to have us over for dinner tomorrow evening.”
“That’ll be a welcome distraction from marking papers,” he remarked.
Remus was on relatively good terms with your family. They were somewhat sceptical of his background at first, but decided they would be happy as long as you were. Your father gave a very nervous and jittery Remus his blessing shortly before he proposed, and you had been happily married ever since.
You laughed. “Definitely.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you awoke the next morning, your hand searched the bed for Remus, for his warmth. You found nothing. Only when your fingers reached the edge of the bed, the precipice between the sheets and the floor, did you open your eyes.
You blinked blearily, letting your eyes get accustomed to the light entering through the small gap between the curtains. Remus was nowhere to be seen.
Throwing on your robes, you shuffled over to the bathroom and peered inside. Where was he? He was indeed a morning person, but there was no reason for him to be up this early in the weekend.
Your incessant internal questions were soon answered when you heard the telltale creak of the heavy wooden door. Remus entered; you could tell from his hunched shoulders he was deep in thought. The dark circles under his eyes told you he had probably not slept much the past few hours.
“Rem? Remus, is everything all right?” You placed a gentle hand on his shoulder.
He wouldn’t meet your eyes, simply holding up a newspaper and muttering, “See for yourself.”
So you took the paper from him, sitting on the bed as you turned the pages in an attempt to find out what exactly was troubling him so. The sound of the paper crackling under your fingers which usually held so much satisfaction for you, gave you no pleasure this time.
“Oh no.”
You now knew what it was, you knew what had upset him. The fifth page of the paper held a picture of him; it depicted him perfectly, there was no chance of anyone not recognize him. And on the off chance someone didn’t connect the dots, his name was printed right below it. The article revealed his true nature, his lycanthropy, informing everyone who didn’t yet know that Hogwarts’s Defense Against the Dark Arts professor was a werewolf.
You glanced up. Remus stood at the open window, both hands leaning on the windowsill as he looked out over the school grounds. You could tell from his posture he was incredibly worried, and he had every right to be. No one would hire a werewolf, much less send their child to a school which had one employed as a teacher.
“Remus?”
“How could this happen?” His voice cracked and you knew he was trying his very best to keep control of his emotions. “We were so careful, how is this possible?”
“I don’t know,” you murmured. “But we’ll handle this the way we always do; together.”
“There’s nothing left to handle.”
“Remus, my love, don’t give up hope. There’s always something. Perhaps my family can help; they have a well-respected name.”
He didn’t reply immediately, instead gazing out over the field where students were playing, studying, or just hanging out.
“They don’t know yet, do they?” It was not a question, more like a statement, as you both knew it to be true.
“They don’t- they didn’t,” you sighed. “But my family knows you. We’re married, for Merlin’s sake. They’re not going to shun you.”
“We shall see about that,” he muttered, straightening up nevertheless. “In the meantime, I should probably have a talk with Minnie. I’ll see you later for lunch?”
You nodded. “As always.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fastening your hairpin, you gave yourself a final once over in the mirror. You were dressed to the nines, and yet you wouldn’t classify your attire as too fancy for the occasion. Satisfied with your appearance, you exited the bathroom adjoining your shared bedroom to go look for Remus.
“Rem?” you called. “You ready to go?
You opened the door separating your bedroom from the hallway with its incredibly high ceilings, as could be expected from any old building. Your husband stood outside, leaning against the wall as he waited.
He hummed in confirmation, a soft smile spreading over his face at the sight of you. He reached for your hand, entwining his fingers with yours as he twirled you around slowly, admiration plain in his eyes. Pulling you close, he pressed his lips to yours, gingerly, as though you were the most precious treasure one could possibly imagine.
“Rem!” you laughed, “We have to go! You know my mother hates when we’re late!”
“As my lady wishes.”
With that, he waved his wand and you disapparated, reapparating right outside your parents’ large house. Walking up the cold stone steps, you felt Remus stiffen slightly, and you squeezed his hand. A comforting gesture, one he immediately returned.
The doorbell sounded loudly, chiming once, twice, three times before falling silent. You waited as quick, light footsteps approached, flinging open the door.
“Auntie (y/n)!” the young girl cried, jumping up and down in excitement. It was your young niece Ada, dressed in a pretty pink skirt and with her hair coiffed in cute, bouncy curls. “It’s auntie (y/n)!”
Another set of footsteps approached, slower and calmer than Ada’s. Your mother appeared in the doorway, smiling and greeting you and Remus as she ushered you inside.
“Dinner’s not ready yet,” she remarked casually as she returned to the kitchen, presumably to continue preparing the meal.
Little Ada remained by your side, dragging you by your hand to come look at her latest drawing. Remus still stood in the hall, but the young girl kept you so occupied you could do little more than glance at him every few minutes.
Your father and your brother soon entered, laughing loudly at what must have been an incredibly funny joke.
“Ah, (y/n)!” your father exclaimed when he spotted you sitting in a corner with Ada on your lap and a children’s book in your hand. “I see Ada’s gotten to you already.”
“Yes, she has. I didn’t remember her having this much energy the last time,” you joked, but Ada tugged on your arm to remind you you were supposed to be reading her fairytales.
“Ah, and Remus.” You couldn’t help but notice how much less enthusiastic your father’s greeting was when it was addressed to your husband.
“How’s Edward doing?” your brother cut in. “Not causing too much trouble, I hope?”
Edward was your brother’s eldest child, older than Ava by six years. He started his first year at Hogwarts that year, and your brother was rather anxious about his progress.
“He’s doing very well in his classes,” Remus replied. “Naturally, he’s pulled a couple of pranks here and there, but that is to be expected from such an energetic young lad like him.”
“I see. And no issues with… supernatural creatures?”
Your head snapped up at that. Ada whined for you to continue reading, but you simply told her to wait a moment. You were certain there was a venomous serpent hiding somewhere in your brother’s words, and when it would jump out to ambush you, someone was sure to get hurt.
Remus remained perfectly calm. “None that I am aware of. The boy’s a very talented wizard; he has proven himself very capable of defeating any creature we presented him with.”
Your brother’s eyes narrowed ever so slightly, and as if struck by a lightning bolt of insight, you know this was heading downhill. It was only a matter of moments before he’d attack Remus about his lycanthropy.
You were right.
“Lupin, you’re a danger to the children! It’s not safe for them to be around you.”
“He is not!” you burst out. You stood up and stalked over to them, the fairytale long forgotten.
“He’s a werewolf.” Your brother spoke in the same tone you’d heard him use when explaining things to Ada; things that one would expect to be obvious.
“He’s also a professor, and has been for years. Nothing’s happened.”
“Maybe not yet, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.”
Your mother emerged from the kitchen, clearly wondering what on earth was going on. Rather than engage herself in the argument, she stood in the doorway, arms crossed and leaning against the doorframe.
Remus’s hand searched for yours, entwining his fingers with yours as soon as he found it. You noticed your brother’s gaze fly towards the gesture, as if he feared a more nefarious action. But Remus was simply holding your hand, squeezing gently as if to say, ‘calm down, love.’
“(y/n), get away from him.” Your brother’s order hung in the air like a sword dangling above both your heads, waiting to see who would give in first. Your parents seemed to want to intervene, but you could tell they didn’t know what to do.
“No.”
“Excuse me?!”
“No, I won’t.” You felt like a defiant child arguing with a parent, but that didn’t matter to you. “He’s my husband and I love him. Werewolf or not.”
“It’s okay, darling,” Remus whispered to you, tone low enough that no one else could catch his words.
“What, are you threatening her now?” Your brother was clearly beyond seeing reason, too angry to think logically.
Remus was caught off guard by that accusation, and unfortunately for him, his split second’s hesitation was plain to see. “I merely told her it was okay, that she doesn’t need to fight for my honor.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“I am not in the habit of lying. I am an honest man and am telling the truth.” There was a stark contrast between your brother’s wild accusations and Remus’s calm demeanor. You only hoped it would not simply pour more oil onto the fire.
“You’re a monster,” he finally spat, as if the words themselves were pure poison. “How do we know it’s not only a matter of time before you hurt (y/n)?”
That was a low blow and you all knew it. Your mother gasped, hand flying to her mouth in shock.
“I would never hurt her.”
“Maybe you wouldn’t, but what about the wolf?”
Neither of you could answer that, both fully aware he didn’t have that much control over his other half.
“Please excuse me,” Remus muttered, glancing at your parents before grabbing his coat and leaving the building.
“There. Look what you’ve done. That was low and we all know it,” you seethed.
“(y/n), he’s dangerous! He could kill you!”
“So what? So could any other wizard. So could you, or mom. So could Ada, if she were determined enough.” You crossed your arms as you reached deep inside yourself, attempting to maintain your composure.
“But you can trust we won’t.”
“What? I can trust the same of him. He wouldn’t hurt me, I trust him.”
“So you would trust a wolf not to attack?” Your brother took two steps forward, as if his subconscious wanted to intimidate you into losing the argument. Nice try. You weren’t easily intimidated.
“He’s not a wolf! He’s Remus. My husband.”
You saw the surprise on his face when you emphasized your relationship with Remus, and you took that opportunity to continue.
“Now if you’ll excuse me, I have business to attend to.” With that, you stalked out as well, waiting until you disappeared behind the hedge outside to run after Remus.
He probably heard you coming, because you found him standing around the corner, as if he were waiting. The look in his eyes told you he had probably fought with himself to decide whether or not to wait for you to catch up.
“Rem, please ignore what he said. I know it’s hard, but he’s spewing nonsense.”
“Love, are you scared of me?”
“No. Never.” He had barely gotten his words out before you replied, without a moment’s hesitation.
“Your family seems to think you should be.”
“Remus, it doesn’t matter what they think. I love you, and that’s what matters.”
His eyes glistened with unshed tears. He stepped closer to you, cradling your cheek gently, as if he were afraid you’d shatter like glass if he was just slightly too rough with you.
Leaning in slowly, he captured your lips with his in a sweet kiss. And that alone conveyed all he needed to say.
“I love you too.”
You were sitting at a stool in the compound’s kitchen when a familiar face walked in. Bucky had eventually explained to you that this was a sort of “headquarters” for the team. You felt a bit foolish having realized you never kept up much with these mighty heroes but you were eager to learn now. So far, you hadn’t encountered anyone you didn’t personally know on this famed team. Even now your eyes landed on the welcoming yet worried face of Steve.
“Morning,” you said, waving your fork before stabbing some of your scrambled eggs. Bucky had insisted on cooking for you despite your assurance you were fine but his cooking skills were....subpar. Still, nothing was inedible and you needed your strength back.
Steve reciprocated the greeting, saying your name with much excitement. “How are you feeling?” He added while making his way to the coffee pot. You chewed your eggs borderline viciously as you debated on an answer.
“I’m okay.” You gave a shrug, staring down at your plate. Part of you wanted to let more out but you ignored it.
Steve came back around to the counter, standing on the other side across from you. He held his coffee cup firmly, nervously almost. You could feel him watching you. That excitement he had said your name with felt like it was evaporating from the room slowly.
“That’s… good,” Steve said. “If you need someone to talk to we have plenty of resources and - and I wanted to say I’m sorry.”
You peaked a glance at him, confused. You placed your fork on the counter. “Sorry? Why are you sorry?”
“I worry I led them right to you,” he explained, “like you two were separated for a reason.”
You frowned. You hadn’t thought about this - heck, you hadn’t thought about blaming anyone other than the disgusted men with such joyous evil looks in their eyes.
“Steve, I don’t think there was any way anyone could’ve prevented this.” You pushed your plate of food away. “They had their sights set. They had a plan, an optimism. It may have just been the soulmate experience in this case,” you sighed. Steve mumbled your name, shaking his head, but you continued, “And that’s fine. Love doesn’t come easy, right?”
“Being kidnapped is not part of being in love.”
“Yeah, well, you don’t have an ex-assassin for a soulmate.”
Steve’s jaw went slack. You were staring him down now, practically begging him to say one more thing.
“It’s going to be okay,” Steve finally settled on. Ever the cool, calm, and collected star-spangled man. “You will recover and it’ll never happen again, we can promise you that.” His voice was serious as if every word ended with a period. You felt tears starting to well in your eyes. You wanted to say something, maybe ask for a hug or just… you didn’t know what, so you just sat there, slumped in your chair like a defeated puppy.
“Everything okay here?” A sudden voice made you jump. You and Steve turned towards the kitchen doorway where Bucky was standing, arms crossed, worry etched all over his face. It seemed to become his permanent expression now. Even when it was just you two, he always appeared on edge.
You nodded, turning back to collect your plate and take it to the sink. “We were just chatting.” You didn’t see the look you just knew Steve and Bucky were sharing.
When you turned back around to face the pair, Bucky had crossed the room, almost close enough to now be hovering over you. You flinched when he went to put a comforting hand on your shoulder. You didn’t know why as you clearly didn’t think he was a threat but hadn’t you seen how threatening he could be? You lowered your head, fighting off the thoughts. He wasn’t like that to you and he had proven it time and time again. Why was it suddenly different?
Before either of the men could comment on your sudden hesitation, you said, “I’m going to go take a shower.” They just nodded, letting you exit.
***
When you got out of the shower and back into the room the team had lent you and Bucky for the time being, Bucky was waiting patiently on the bed. You lingered around the space, picking out some pajamas to wear, acting as normal as you could. You took in the space, still amazed by it. It was fairly large with top-notch amenities, including a luscious bed, spacious dresser, and television from technology you weren’t sure existed for the general public. It even had access to your own grand bathroom, saving you some war flashbacks of the communal restrooms at college.
You dipped back into the bathroom and got changed. While your intimacy with Bucky hadn’t been on the shy side, you weren’t in that kind of mood right now. Rightfully so, you would say.
Emerging once more, you noticed Bucky had made a sort of resting area for you on the bed. Your side was surrounded by blankets upon blankets and soft pillows. He even had a movie queued up for you two to watch. He laid waiting, his eyes practically begging you to come to him. After giving your hair a final wring, you gave in and crawled into the soft bed, letting all of you just melt into it.
“How are y-,”
“Bucky,” you sighed, turning towards him. He was laying on his side, staring down at your curled-up form. “Please don’t ask how I am.”
He nodded. “I get it, doll. I’m just worried about you. You seemed alright yesterday but today…” Yeah. You’d taken a dive. Your whole mood had shifted. Heck, your views on the world had shifted. As dramatic as it seemed, you were having a hard time snapping back. You weren’t even gone for over two days and yet the smallest thing...
“I think it’s just all settling in,” you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper. “Maybe it was just shock yesterday or something but realizing what all happened… Gosh, this probably seems so foolish to you.”
Bucky began shaking his head profusely. As gently as he could, he took your hand in his. You welcomed the action as you shifted under the makeshift mountain of blankets. “Don’t do that, honey. Don’t try to dismiss it or think what you’re feeling is foolish. You went through something so terrifying. You’re allowed to react to it.” He took a deep breath. “When we talked yesterday, I think I thought maybe they hadn’t gotten to you. That nothing had happened that would leave you torn up but you saw… a lot.”
You knew he wasn’t talking about just being exposed to Hydra and their twisted selves. “I did,” you hesitantly agreed. “And I fear it’s going to take a lot to recover.” Your words felt like you were delivering punch after punch to Bucky but where were you going to get if you weren’t honest?
“Anything you need, sweetheart,” he mumbled, his thumb drawing soft patterns on the back of your hand, sending shivers through you. “I’ll do anything to make it better.”
You nodded, averting your gaze to where your hands were connected. Your hand was so tense but you hadn’t even realized you were squeezing his. You relaxed it slightly and Bucky’s motions stopped.
“Bucky,” you mumbled, “can I ask you something?”
He hummed in response.
“What do I offer you?”
You could feel Bucky’s eyes staring you down. No doubt a concerned frown was playing on his lips. “What are you getting at here, honey?”
You shifted uncomfortably. “When I was… you know… the - the older man said that he didn’t understand why we would be paired together. They were determined to figure out what I offer you. What makes me so special.” A beat. “I really don’t know the answer.”
Bucky sighed, shaking his head. You glanced up at him again, his eyes now holding a different kind of anger. You felt bad for doubting yourself but the insecurity from the words of some random guy settled into your brain.
After a thoughtful moment, Bucky spoke, “I don’t think you’ll ever fully understand what you give, not just to me, honey, but the world. You’re so fearless. You’re incredibly understanding. Not to mention how compassionate and bright you are…” His voice cracked slightly, breaking your heart a little. “You force me to remember that I’m not alone and I don’t have to be. And I just really hope I do the same for you.”
You could feel your own tears forming as you shifted just a bit closer to your soulmate. You weren’t quite touching but you could still feel his presence. It was as comfortable as you could get right now and Bucky seemed to respect that.
“I hope I’ll be okay,” you confessed. “Eventually.”
It quite amazed you how fast stuff could change within yourself. You woke up from being rescued with the more extravagant hopes and overwhelming relief of just making it out alive. But then you remembered the price of you making it out alive. What you had to witness to get there. And then the thoughts of actually being back in that position rushed over you. Needless to say, it was weird. Simply weird. Unlike anything you had encountered before.
Bucky soon nodded, encouragingly. You hated putting anything else on him but he had become part of the memories now. It was one thing to see him in dreams and another to watch it just feet away from you.
With a choking sob, he said, “Me too, doll.”
