Been building a character for a dnd campaign I'm doing with friends and it got me thinking-
The chain with a halfling/hobbit reader. Someone who's at most, like, 3 feet tall, maybe four if they're lucky with their genetics. Maybe they come from a close-knit community or are more nomadic and prone to wanderlust, but they always have a love for hearth, family and home, wherever that may be.
I don't know, just the thought of them meeting DND races is funny to me. Imagine how they'd react to a Tiefling?
My first thought while I was reading this was "a halfling reader!? Finally someone who's smaller than Four!"
Meeting a tiefling is a whole other ball game though.
They'd think he/she was a child of Ganon. The horns, the skin, the hooves (some have them, I think). But tieflngs naturally look a little more human than Ganon, The Demon King ever did.
So they're cautious to a fault. Willing to give the benefit of the doubt but also not willing to get closer on the off chance Reader turns around and actually summons Ganon.
They don't know if that's something Reader can do, but they're likely to ask.

If you liked the ghost! Chain stuff, by all means, help them out.
I’m thinking about making the kid!hero into an actual au but idk if I want to leave them as a kid with the ghost!chain or have them be an adult and travel with them
Note: with the kid -> adult it’s them going on the quest when they first start out to them officially meeting the chain as an adult who’s seasoned through their experiences added with the ghost!chain’s
+ whichever one has the most votes will be the main thing I’ll update with the others being like an alternate timeline

Legend Headcanon with an Affectionate S/O (1400 follower raffle)
Our fist place winner for the 1400 follower raffle was @numberonehere2008 and they asked for some headcanons where Legend has an affectionate significant other. I think it's a bit short, but hopefully it's ok.

Content under the cut!
Affectionate Platonically
He’s a bit surprised at first that you’re willing to touch him as often as you do.
He doesn’t shove you away even if it makes him a little uncomfortable.
He’s just not used to it.
That being said, even if doesn’t understand why you’re as affectionate as you are, he’s not going to tell you to stop.
Mostly because he doesn’t want to hurt your feelings.
If you’re comfortable enough around him that you think there is no problem with it, then who’s he to shoot you down?
Legend wouldn’t initiate any hugs or hand holding though.
It’s a lot of you going to him, rather than him going to you.
He’d wrap his arm around you though at least.
Just so there’s no mistake about this not being ok.
He’d hate for you to be fine and suddenly feel like you’re doing something wrong.
Affectionate While Crushing
Oh, someone help this poor boy.
He’d want more. Just more.
But heaven forbid that you ever figure that out.
He will eventually slowly inch his way towards you before just flopping his head onto your lap.
Hesitantly starts holding your hand first.
Gasp- shocker, I know.
Legend might even get a little cheeky. ;)
A little flirty- He might linger a little longer than typically called for.
If you think that he’s finding more and more excuses to keep you within arms reach- dont’ worry about it.
He’d start touching you more in return, if only in a thinly veiled attempt to encourage you to do more. But he’ll never say it out loud.
Affectionate During Relationship
He’s no longer asking
Flops on you whenever he wants.
Kisses you without shame.
Tackles you when you least expect it.
He wants to cuddle all the time. He demands headpats and scritches.
When you give him just as much in return he always gets the same pretty boy, bashful smile.
But you really know that he’s just trying to not appear like a little ball of sunshine- even if that same smile makes him appear more like a sap than he intends.
It’s fine though.
Every time you want to show any sort of affection, his smile will stay there only for you.
If he’s pretending to not like it or that he’s being inconvenienced, ignore it. It’s just that he’s trying to keep up a “reputation” poorly.
You can tell he’s joking. It’s virtually seeping out of his bones.
He loves it

I saw the ask with irish!reader and now as an Irish person I am OBLIGATED to give my two cents odjfldbvksjfjdndk
Irish!reader who tricks the chain into thinking certain phrases or words in Gaeilge/Irish are like super sappy sweet nothings or love confessions when in reality it's... its really not.
Personally, I barely remember any phrases that actually mean 'I love you' other than 'is aoibhinn liom tú' (<- is that even right???? I've been learning this language for 12 years why am I unsure 😭)
"Oh yeah, I know a word for love in gaeilge, it's ispíní."
"Oooh, nice. Why are you grinning like that?"
"Only because I'm remembering someone else using that word. It was super sweet :)" <- reader who is lying through their teeth.
(Ispíní is the word for sausage. I would use any random word that I could remember to trick someone like this lmao)
"'An bhfuil cead agam go dtí an leithreas?' means 'would you go to the moon and back for me?'"
"Well that's awfully romantic, isn't it Time?"
*Time, squinting, somehow sensing reader's lying. Oh and also moon related trauma-*
"Hm, yes, it really is."
("An bhfuil cead agam go dtí an leithreas?" Is a phrase burned into any irish students memory, because it is the phrase for "can I go to the bathroom?")
omg
"Only because I'm remembering someone else using that word. It was super sweet :)" <- What a great way to make them jealous without intending to. XD
Not to mention it being the completely wrong thing to say as well!!
The boys wanting to learn just so they could talk to Reader and figure out how to say sweet things to them in their own language.
Time would probably know they were lying... But man he does not he have any way to call them out on it. Warrior would probably figure it out too- but he's just as clueless as the next guy.

Why does nobody have a king of hyrule oc 😔
Big old beardy man looking after their kingdom AND be a decent father to their daughter 😴
(he loves all pies, if given the chance he'd most likely participate in a pie eating/baking competition)
(he once made a pie for his daughters birthday but threw it away because he didn't want to embarrass her, it apparently is not a princess worthy gift)
(my guy looks up to many of the past heroes and princesses since he was a kid)
(insecure 🦗🦗🦗)
(he loves to wear a black cloak and walk out at night just to take a hike which made him look incredibly shady, he means no harm, just passing by)
(had beef with a random fairy)
Seems like you already have an OC in the making. XD
This is absolutely delightful! I like to think that most kings of Hyrule were actually decent, it's just that the ones we see aren't. Otherwise, I think there would be way more Zelda who've messed up once way or another but she's her own power house.
Always has been.
But! this isn't about them!
I wanna know more about the random beef the king has with the fairy. By all means, please tell me more. :D

Oohhh! The recent anon asks about both music and swimming have given me so many ideas!
For swimming the idea that hylians are denser and weigh more for their body size is super interesting! (If I'm interpreting that correctly) It would be interesting if the others who aren't as familiar with humans are just kinda baffled by how little the reader weighs in comparison to their size. I could totally imagine reader just getting picked up randomly by members of the chain. (Mostly Wild and Twilight mostly I'd imagine but I also see Sky joining in from time to time. That man is a gremlin when he wants to be.) Just full on circle of life Lion King style. Reader is just very done with these antics.
Also wouldn't it be so sad that the boys never got to experience the joy that are musicals. :c Twi would probably be the most chill about music growing up around humans and all. I could imagine someone in the chain coming across reader playing an instrument one day (we're going with violin for now since that's what I personally play) and it's just this beautifully haunting piece. And the Link is just frozen there like, "There must some sort of powerful magic at play with this piece!" But as he stands there not making a sound, holding his breath nothing continues to happen. And with a final flourish reader finishes and finally notices the Link there. I think there would probably need to be quite a bit of explaining on both sides.
Also what if there was a human hero!reader? They we're the one to save Hyrule but were never technically the hero. The proper Link of that era just up and left. Reader doesn't have the hero's spirit and can't even wield the master sword. I think it would be super interesting if they were from a time that was a lot more judgemental of humans so even after saving the country (which most people won't even acknowledge) reader can't have any peace. I also think that would raise an interesting counterpoint to some of the chain's preconceived notions that they have zero say in their quests. They would probably bond with Wind at least a bit though on account of them both not having the hero's spirit!
Hope you don't mind my excessively long ramble. I would have split it into smaller chunks but then I would have forgotten some part of it.
Have a lovely rest of your week and drink some water! <3 \(≧▽≦)/
I'm perfectly fine with long rambles! I'm glad to see you're interesting in this dumb au idea XD
Thank you for your patience in regards to me answering this. <3
Now I can't get over the mental image of Link holding up Reader like a child. He'd probably find it hilarious while Reader is two seconds from stabbing him.
In fact, I think Twilight would be the one to embrace music in a casual sense since he wouldn't have had the Hylian cultural ties. He grew up with humans. Music isn't necessarily sacred. Have fun with it! Twilight probably knows how to play the spoons and will drag Reader into jamming with him for the hell of it.
And Reader being the hero on top of the that?! Oh that would mess with their heads a bit.
Wind would probably latch onto that as well. Like, "neither of us were chosen, but that didn't stop us. You're more like me than they are!" And the betrayal a line like that would cause!
Some Link's would take a while to stop being petty.

Adding to more human-Hylian differences, their minds.
What if human brains are more mathematical, logical, etc, while Hylian brains are better at pattern recognition? Think of the dungeons. A human might need a guide, but the Links could all solve the puzzles, even at 8 years old. But then, you ask a Hylian to do Pythagoras' theorem, and it's more difficult, because their brains aren't built like that, while human adolescents are perfectly fine with a squared + b squared = c squared. Humans are way better at abstract concepts, while Hylians need the puzzle to be in front of them. Hylians are also more elaborate in their puzzle solving. You ask an average human, and they will hit the puzzle until it works, while a Hylian will analyse the pattern and quickly find the solution. Sheikah are like a branch of Hylian that evolved the more human-like mind, but not quite, because they still used magic as a crutch. Hylians also seem to value aesthetics a lot, even over practicality, because look at those dungeons where people apparently lived. All those pretty structures and yet you can't feasibly imagine it being convenient to live there. And the Divine Beasts, along with the Guardians. Are those terminals in practical locations? They look cool, sure, but then you wonder just why in the world they have such glaring weaknesses. They added unsecured entrances all over the place, it's no wonder the Blights could invade, and the Guardians have the eyes **right there**. And then, when their magical power source backfired, instead of electing to fix it, they turned them all to scrap and buried them underground. Also, as a history nerd, Lookout Landing is honestly terrible for defense, if you've seen Bread Pirate's video, you'll know, along with most places in Hyrule. And then, you compare all these settlements to Ordon, human run. Bridge can be blocked prevent enemies from crossing if I recall, and they have a sustainable food source inside the village if they get trapped, along with trained fighters, and it's surrounded by mountains. It actually seems like one of the better places in terms of defense. Humans are practical, while Hylians are still living in Hyrule, the place with an active volcano, a resurging evil, and a monster infestation. Meanwhile, Hytopia, another human populated land, is doing so well that they can turn all their focus to fashion with no consequences for their safety. It is no wonder Hyrule keeps getting taken over and attacked.
Dang, you out a lot of thought into this. ^.^*
I completely agree with what your saying.
But maybe instead of inherent pattern recognition, maybe Hylians are just better at processing/working with abstract concepts. If their society is more magic based anyway, it would be pretty difficult to be more abstract than literal magic.
I think you're right about Humans being more mathematical in that sense. They would have to be better at crunching numbers and all the logistics that follow because they don't have the luxury of throwing things at the wall and seeing if it sticks or not.
That being said- yeah, I can totally see Hyrule just keeping up with this cycle of post apocalyptical destruction, (curse aside, of course) while literally everyone else is just moving on with their lives and staying happily in their own lane.

Hi it's the violinist anon from before. Had a thought about a human reader getting sick more often than the chain.
So what if the reason reader gets sick more often/worse is because they're catching all of their sicknesses from the chain who are all hylians. Kinda like how bird flu or bovine fever are fine for the given animals (basically just a cold) but are really bad for humans to catch. Reader has no natural immunity to those diseases and said diseases are more likely to make human! reader incredibly sick. If this were the case I could totally see Twilight being able to commiserate since he grew up in a human community and would have likely had to go through the same thing growing up.
And make sure you take care of yourself over finals! It's one of the best things you can do for your success! Best of luck!
Ohh- that works.
Twilight would probably be the one to fill in the rest of the chain like "No, no- they're right. This is bad. everyone else stay away from them. They can't get sick with this."
Wild making them their own soup just in case.
Hyrule fussing over them on the off chance they begin feeling ill.
Time keeping a closer eye on them.
It doesn't matter who was the one sick in the chain. Reader is at risk and that's not going to fly with the rest of them.

Broken Heart Broken Kingdom (1400 Follower Raffle)
Our second place winner was @sadlonelybagel and they asked for a reader who's partner was Link but Link is dead. This reader instantly doesn't like the chain for their similarities to their late lover. Enjoy.
Masterlist
Content under the cut!
When they first walked through the portal, they couldn’t help but see the state of the land. There was a reddish haze over the sky with broken trees and burnt grass and with the faint smell over smoke of the land.
“What happened here?” Legend’s jaw was slack. He had fought so hard to keep this from happening. But here it was, his worst nightmare come to life.
“War.” Warrior answers bluntly, not bothering to sugar coat the circumstance. “A bad one by the looks of it.”
“But how can it get this bad?” Four looks around in just as much shock coughing a bit to clear his lungs of the smoke that hangs around.
“They lost.” Wild answers with just as much fact as Warrior does. No one bothers to challenge his statement.
“Who are you?!” A stern voice calls out from the side. The sudden sound startles them and they draw their weapons on instinct. Their grips tighten at the sight of the weapon this new person holds. They viscerally react at the sight of the group but manage to hold their ground. They steady their hand and adjust their stance, albeit they look less angered and more heartbroken. “Who are you!?”
Hyrule raises his hand. “....Link.”
“Don’t mock me!” They hiss. “You can’t be Link.”
Sky looks around uneasily. “...But we are. All of us. You seem to know him. Do you know where we can find him?”
Their eyes well up with tears as they stare the boys down. “How dare you.”
“What happened?” Warrior interjects. “What happened here?”
Despair covers this stranger's face. They don’t seem to want to believe the implications of his words. “What happened? What happened? How can you not know what happened?! Ganon happened!!”
“We can gather that.” Time says gently. “But why is this the case? Where is your hero?”
“Dead.” They choke on a sob, righteous fury entering their gaze. “That demon killed my husband. I’ve been fighting in his stead.”
They group fall silent once again, shifting their weight awkwardly on their toes. Time in particular feels a heavy sort of dread drop his stomach through the crust of the earth, filling the void to the top of his throat. Part of him wants to vomit. He doesn’t think he’ll be allowed.
“My condolences.” Wild breaks the silence first. “I’m sure he was a very strong man.”
The stranger’s bravado wavers and the tears fall. This poor soul has clearly shoved aside their need to grieve for the protection of this land. But as they are not the chosen hero, their efforts are akin to pushing a boulder up a hill during a race. Progress has been made, but at the cost of much lost ground.
They lower their blade and use the hem of their sleeve to wipe away the tears. The water clears away the dirt on their cheeks. They look younger that way. “...You’re the first person to tell me that…”
Wind puts his hands on his hips and looks around the world once again. He asks for their name and they give with only minimal hesitation. They seem unable to look most of them in the eye. But Hyrule, Wind and Four get their full attention when they begin asking questions. Sky can almost get them to look his way but then they spot the sword on his back and scowl and look away again. Twilight pats his shoulder. He’s sure it’s nothing personal. They seem unable to meet more of them in the eye however, most likely due to the fact that they look the most similar to one another. Including Wild.
They can easily gather that they’re the ones that look the most like the hero.
Or rather- their dead husband.
It must be a bitter pill to swallow- and one that they clearly weren’t ready to so much as hold. It’s saddening more than it is insulting.
“...Well I guess we’re here to help.” Legend says solemnly.
The local can only look at the ground and the blade in their hand- eyes haunted and heart heavy. “...You’re a little late for that.”
“We’re not here by choice.” Twilight says evenly. “But had we known the option and the circumstance, I assure you that we would at least attempt to help when you-.... When he needed it. But we were in our own homes, in our own worlds.”
They swallow harshly and look away, not willing to open their mind to the concept. This is an open and deep wound. Twilight sighs. He sees the signs of grief. There’s no getting through to them at this rate. “Just point to the direction of the threat and we’ll get out of your hair. I’m sure you could use a break.”
Something behind their eyes snapped. They grit their teeth, growling at the Rancher. “Do you honestly think-?!”
“We’re here to do a job whether you like it or not.” Time interrupts them. He can already see where this conversation is going. It’s not something he wants to entertain. “We can go head first into the danger with only our wits about us or you can help us at least know what we’re about to get into. This is bigger than us.”
His words strike a cord and they straighten- guarding their face once more. “Fine. This way. Try to keep up. I won’t slow down for you.”
“Lead the way.” Sky steps forward, looking back at the group nervously. Most shrug and follow this person through the war torn land and to what they can assume is a safe haven from the battles and from Ganon’s forces. They see more of the land and it’s just as bad as the first glances.
This person does not trust them, that much is obvious. They don’t like them, something that is abundantly clear. And this person does not want them here, but no one here can change what has happened.
Hyrule still needs a hero.

Hear me out...
Reader who knows about the "someone will die" from the Sheikah Slate.
Reader who ran the numbers, and realized Legend and Warriors were the only ones who had nothing left to guarantee, or even hint that they survived, unlike Time, who has to have Twilight, Wild who has TotK, Sky and Wind who both have to found Hyrule.
Reader who also knows about the grey area, the ones that should survive this journey, but only based on flimsy evidence or who will meet a terrible fate soon enough. Hyrule, and only his game guide stating he is destined to become a great king, Four and the Palace of the Four Sword.
Whether they know this through playing the games, reading the comic and being isekaied, or having some sort of gift of prophecy, they know about this.
And they're determined not to let it happen.
If the heroes die, game over. Reader isn't the protagonist. They're a sidekick with all the death flags raised.
A Reader who is determined to take the place of whoever will die on this journey, because they can't let it be any of the boys. The world is better off if it's them, and not the boys, right?
And if they were isekaied as a human, a Chain of Links blaming themselves. For not seeing the courage hidden in a human. For not having the wisdom to see beyond the surface. For not having the power to stop this. For allowing their prejudices to get in the way of seeing the signs.
And on top of that, a Reader who plays into the prejudices. Who acts like a "big, scary, greedy, traitorous human", because maybe they can soften the blow of grief if they make themselves somebody nobody would grieve over. Reader whose words will conflict with their actions, saying "I don't like kids", then raging at a monster for going near one. Maybe Reader wasn't even ready to die. They're still scared to the end, but so determined. They still have family back home, they still had plans for the future. But, they're probably assumed dead anyway. What does changing a false into a truth even do? They notice these thoughts, and go through sleepiness nights so their brain won't even have the energy to think them...
Anyway, remember to get 8 hours of sleep and drink some water as well, dehydration is bad for you.
I've actually thought of that idea before of a character with the "nothing to lose if I die" attitude because if the the Hero dies, it's game over.
However, I think that Link (any of them would do) would be able to see through their act because they're perceptive power combined would be too high for Reader to hide all their intentions and lies.
And I had to say one thing, I think Reader would still pay attention with Time as well. Because it's heavily implied that he died young and we know that he died with regrets. The fact that Twilight exists isn't necessarily enough to stop that. In fact, it might be the very thing that could cause it.
Meaning, Reader has to do double the effort to not only keep the Old Man alive, but to also focus on any of the other boy's blind spots as well.

I agree with the hc that a human would struggle with illness in comparison to Hylians, but I also think that the opposite is true (specifically in the case of an isekai)
If any of the chain was theoretically in our world (like a reverse isekai) they'd be in big trouble. There are plenty of diseases here that they've never been exposed to and Hylians as a race are incredibly magical beings. Which is probably why they don't need advanced medicine, because they have been using potion and magic for centuries to fend off illness (and herbs with magical properties, i'm sure)
but once they're in the real world? they'd be sick left and right, and they wouldn't be able to use magic to help with it. (I think Hyrule itself is an abnormally magical place, even in the environment itself which Link says himself in the animated series if you want to take stock in that but- being out of Hyrule, especially in a place like the real world, I think their magical abilities would wane, and they wouldn't be able to bounce off their surroundings anymore as far as magical energy goes.
Maybe antibiotics and other modern medicine would be compatible with Hylian DNA, maybe it wouldn't. But they'd definitely be struggling with the human equivalent of a common cold.
Of course.
Take the boys to a world where no magic exists and they're literally the weakest thing around. They're fragile and delicate.
Their magic is too much of a crutch and support for them to live without it.
