Cellbit has officially been forced back to the island by the Watcher and he’s going to force himself to kill all his friends because the Watcher says he has to (and the Watcher is never wrong.) And then he meets a lonely little child sitting in Cellbit’s husband’s garden.
He raises his machete, but he falters when he sees the too-big gas mask slung around the kid’s neck. Cellbit recognizes that mask, it’s Roier’s. From Purgatory. He and Cellbit decorated theirs, and this mask has his goofy little smile drawn on the back strap in permanent marker.
The kid doesn’t flinch as Cellbit approaches.
In high-pitched Spanish, the kid remarks, wide-eyed, “You’re a REALLY big Pepito!”
The kid has to crane their head back to look at Cellbit. They smile, gap-toothed, and they wave.
“Wanna sit with Pepito?” they ask.
The Watcher’s presence tickles at the back of Cellbit’s mind, as does the bloodlust.
He sits, anyway, and he places his machete (bloody already, sorry Tina) on the grass next to him. He criss-crosses his legs, and the kid mimics him.
“Where are your parents?” Cellbit asks, definitely not so he can kill said parents.
The kid shrugs. “Apa has been gone for a really long time, but Abuela says that he’s super pendejo, so he’s fine. So Pepito is waiting.”
Something rotten curls in Cellbit’s gut.
“Is your apa Roier?” he asks.
At the kid’s nod and succeeding rant about how cool their Apa Roier is and how he’s probably doing cool superhero things right now, Cellbit feels the rage inside of him spark into something other than self-hatred for the first time in over a month.
“How long has he been missing?” Cellbit asks.
The kid ponders for a moment before holding up both hands with fingers splayed. They close their hands into fists, and then they open them again. 20.
“This many!” they declare. “Probably. Pepito isn’t good at math yet.”
Twenty days. At least. And…
Cellbit sucks in a shuddery breath. “Has anyone been looking for him?”
The kid shakes his head with a shrug. “Pepito looked, but now Pepito is taking a Pepito Break.”
Assuming the kid is Pepito, that means. God.
The Watcher’s claws scratch at Cellbit’s brain, but he ignores Him for the moment. There’s something he needs to take care of before he can continue His war.
“Well, I’ll help you look,” Cellbit says. “Your apa is a good friend of mine.”
Pepito nods sagely. “You’re Pepito’s other dad, uh-huh.”
Cellbit would wonder how Pepito knows who he is considering the fact that Roier has probably already moved on from him, but, well, they’ve probably been hanging around Richarlyson.
(Richarlyson…)
“So you know that I’m going to find him,” Cellbit tells Pepito.
Pepito nods. “Dad Cellbit is a very strong Pepito.”
“And so are you,” Cellbit says.
He reaches out and pulls Pepito’s gas mask up so that he’s holding it over Pepito’s face; it’s too big for them, but if Cellbit adjusts the straps like so…
“There!” he announces, dropping his hands. “Fits perfectly!”
Pepito’s mask is still way too big, but at least it’s on their face now.
Through one of the eye holes, Cellbit can see Pepito’s smile. It makes his heart twist into a sad little knot.
But he won’t get attached, he knows that for sure. He’s going to help find Roier, and then he’ll slip out during the reunion.
He won’t be missed at all once Roier’s family is back together.

Romero Household: Chapter 1, Part 6
🎵🎶We're going to the chapel and we're, gonna get married 🎵🎶
Tumblr media
Formal photos in the next part, this was all about the ceremony.
Marta’s first language is Spanish so she is teaching Keira (and me) some common Spanish words/phrases Abuelo/Abuela: Grandfather/Grandmother Buenas tardes : Good afternoon Carino: Term of endearment for a loved one Lo siento: Sorry Mi familia: My family Padre: Father Te amo: I love you
Wednesday starts off grey and rainy. Marta is determined to have her barista shift before the wedding, but Keira already has Wednesdays off work. After checking what she can harvest she decides to spend some time at the rec centre working on her handiness. She needs to level up in logic and handiness for her next promotion and some mean watcher has made skill gain harder since her last rotation. When more sims arrive she gets tense and leaves, can’t be too early to her own wedding.
Tumblr media
Keira: It’s sunny! Oh thank the watcher
Joey: You alright
Keira: It was pouring in San Sequoia, I was certain we wouldn’t be able to get any photos after the ceremony
Joey: *laughs* different places, different weather. Or maybe the watcher just cheated it (I didn't Joey what are you implying?) Okay, you ready to sign your life away
Keira: *laughs* You would say it like that. Come on, I still need to get in my dress
Tumblr media
The wedding gets underway with Harvey escorting Keira up the aisle.
Harvey: *sniffles*
Keira: Dad... are you crying
Harvey: You used to practice your bride walk around the house when you were a kid, now look at you
Keira: *laughs* I remember
Harvey: I'm so happy for you Keira
Keira: Look dad, everyone got here without problems. That’s got to be a good sign
Harvey: Yes, let’s hope it lasts. I want you to have the wedding of your dreams
Keira: If my bride shows up then that is what I’ll have
Tumblr media
Harvey: I’ll leave you here then. Very good luck my darling. I’ll go collect your bride. Remember, no peeking
Keira: *laughs* she has made me promise not to look early
Harvey: See you soon
And so Harvey heads back down the aisle to where Marta has entered the church. She has no sims to give her away so the couple decided it would be nice for Harvey to escort both brides.
Harvey: Are you ready Marta
Marta: *sniffles* I’m so ready to be married to your daughter *smiles*
Harvey: Hey now, we better get you up there before you wash away
They wait until the music cue then Harvey and Marta begin the journey up the aisle.
Tumblr media
Slowly they walk down the aisle and Keira can feel her nerves increase. She wants to turn before Marta is there but knows today is about promises. She needs to let Marta know she’ll respect her wishes. So Keira waits with baited breath as she hears people in the church murmur, clearly impressed with something.
Marta: Oh Harvey, you talk of me washing away. You might wash with me
Harvey: *sniffles* I’m fine. I’m just so... so... happy
Marta: Me to
They approach the altar and Harvey releases Marta, returning to his seat sniffling away. Marta tiptoes and taps Keira on the shoulder.
Marta: Carino, I’m here, you can turn now
Tumblr media
Keira turns and is mesmerised. She knows Marta is a beautiful woman but the person in front of her takes her breath away. Marta looks angelic with her hair cascading over her shoulder and seems to be radiating love.
Marta: *whispers* Buenas tardes carino
Keira: Hola sweetheart. Watcher you look… gorgeous *sniffles*
Marta: *giggles* That was the effect I was going for. You are beautiful, I knew you’d look even better than I imagined
Keira: *sniffles* Want to get married
Marta: With my whole heart
Tumblr media
The officiant steps up and the group sing a few hymns before the vows get underway. Keira is up first.
Keira: Sweetheart, I can still remember the first time I saw you. I was supposed to be studying for some test or other and into the music room below walked one of the prettiest women I have ever seen. You seemed nervous, as we now know that was because you were breaking in
At this line the crowd lets out a quiet chuckle and Marta sniffles.
Keira: When you sang it was like you became larger than life. I couldn’t hear all the way up there but I wanted to. You became my favourite show, and meeting you was better than any season premiere. I have always dreamed of finding my soulmate, my partner in life, and sweetheart *sniffles* in my wildest dreams I couldn’t have imagined someone as real... and perfect for me... as you
Marta lets out a small sob and Keira leans forwards to wipe the tear away.
Tumblr media
Keira: Te amo. I understand now why Anakin turned the galaxy upside down for Padme and why Mal couldn’t stop himself standing up for Inara. Your love helps me be the best version of myself. One that takes risks, one that doesn’t run from challenges, and one that is absolutely completely in love with you
Marta: *sniffles* carino
Keira: Life with you has become my favourite saga, one that I hope will carry on for years to come. Your courage inspires me *sniffles* and your heart is where I feel safe. I am so excited to find out what life has in store for us. I’m not afraid of it because I know, come what may, I need only look to my side and you’ll be there
Tumblr media
Marta: *sniffles* Lo siento, I just need a handkerchief
The crowd lets out a collective giggle and sniffle as Keira helps Marta dab away some of the pools under her eyes.
Marta: My turn. Carino *clears throat* I was returning to life when I met you. Somehow you made all the mantras I repeated to myself real. Suddenly I did feel worthy... and strong... and that *sniffles* I am enough. For so long I only saw what was wrong with me but getting to know you, seeing how hesitant you were to claim your strengths when I wanted to shout them from the rooftops... it showed me I needed to embrace all of me. You make me proud. Proud to be me and to have won your heart.
Tumblr media
Marta: Before you, life was a song I could never figure out the tune of with the melodies and bridges throwing me off track. I know now why I was never in sync. My life was always meant to be a duet, one of me and you *sniffles* and I am so happy to be promising my forever to you
Keira: *mouthing* I love you
Marta: *sniffles* My abuela and abuelo were followed quickly to the forever save by my padre and mama but... in this church I feel they are with us, and I know in my heart they all would love you. Ma familia, if you can hear me, know I am the happiest I have ever been. Carino, I feel as though the watcher sculpted us for each other, and every day I give thanks for finding you, and you loving me. You will always be my favourite song, the one I cannot get out of my head
Tumblr media
Keira takes the first ring from Joey and holds it over Marta’s finger.
Keira: I, Keira Foster, take you, Marta Aymee Romero, to be my watcherly wed wife. I solemnly swear I shall be your best friend, your shelter in a tempest and the wind in your wings. In front of our familia, our friends, and the watcher, I promise to love and cherish you, for as long as our souls exist. Te amo sweetheart
With her vows complete Keira slides Marta’s ring on, feeling so happy she’s sure she’ll explode.
Tumblr media
Marta wipes some more tears and does her best to compose herself, taking Keira's ring from Alexander.
Marta: I, Marta Aymee Romero, take you, Keira Foster, to be my watcherly wed wife. I solemnly swear I shall be your best friend, your shelter in a tempest and the wind in your wings. In front of our familia, our friends, and the watcher, I promise to love and cherish you, for as long as our souls exist. Te amo carino
Tumblr media
The brides can’t take their eyes off each other and the rest of the service is a blur.
Officiant: By the power invested in me by the watcher I now pronounce you, wife and wife
Keira sweeps Marta into her arms, dipping her low before pulling her in for a kiss. The church erupts in cheers but the two women hardly notice it, they’re full of love.

what's ur fav meal to cook? i usually do stir fry or fajitas but my roomates are getting tired of those option and its my turn to cook dinner again lol
Ack! Okay so I actually try to opt out of cooking whenever possible 😅 I used to like it but then burnout brain got me so I stopped. But! When I'm trying to be a team player, I'll make Cuban-adjacent style black beans (I say that because it comes out nothing like my abuela used to make but I stopped caring a while back) :
saute onion and garlic in olive oil in a big pan until translucent, add three cans black beans (2 cans drained, one with water) when it's simmering cover with lid and bring down heat. Takes about 45? Ish? Minutes, but check it and stir every 20 min to make sure it's not burning on the bottom. It should have no more liquid, but not in a dried out way. It should be kind of creamy but not a paste. Then add some cumin and serve with white rice (Cuban approved version) or tortillas (NOT Cuban version but it's easier than messing with making rice so I usually do this. Maybe add some avocado to it)
If you want to really get into it, you can also make tostones with it:
green plantain bananas (bigger than regular bananas, with super thick peel), slice the peel off and take out plantain/banana inside, cut into inch thick rounds, put them in hot oil in a pan until both sides are a little yellow, take them out and stick on paper towels. With the bottom of a bowl or cup (something flat) smoosh them flat, put them back into oil until golden brown, put on paper towels and pat out extra oil, sprinkle with salt. Done.
Or if you want something not so oily, there's this recipe my husband has been into making lately, it's the weight watchers version of Arroz con Pollo, which is pretty easy and makes enough for leftovers over here.
Hope that helps! Let me know what you wind up doing for dinner!

I think the most huge thing that everyone had been talking about when Encanto first came out was the subject of how the family treated Mirabel. It’s not a surprise that a BUNCH of watchers felt she was treated downright horribly, ignored, pushed around, overlooked. I’ll say it now, this was another popular opinion in the fandom that…..REALLY bothered me, in fact it’s one of the BIGGEST ones. I’ve been wanting to talk about this subject for so long, but my opinion is complicated, because it’s not me just saying “you’re wrong”.
Tumblr media
In the film, since Mirabel is the only Madrigal who doesn’t have a gift, she feels left out. She doesn’t know her place, and feels insecure because she’s not bringing anything to the table or contributing to her family. Her motivation for the film is that she wants to make her family proud, and have them see that she’s of worth in her own way, without a power. The family consists of her parents, who tell her she’s perfect the way she is and thinks she has nothing to prove. Then there’s her two sisters, Luisa, who cares for her and wants to protect her, and Isabela, who buts heads with Mirabel due to her seemingly ruining her perfect facade all the time, and Mirabel thinking she’s a stuck up princess. Then there’s Pepa’s side of the family, who while didn’t get a lot of screen time, and didn’t interact with Mirabel directly that many times, they treat her seemingly regularly, with even the youngest member Antonio being the closest to her. Then there’s her uncle Bruno, who sees her as the gift. Finally, there’s Abuela Alma, who while cares for Mirabel, sees her as a person who can’t really do much, and pushes to the side for the rest of the family to shine.
So….I think we can all agree that yes, Mirabel did deserve better. BUT…..does that make the family toxic and abusive? Well….my thoughts are simply that they’re flawed, but NOT horrible people like some have said. Mirabel could have been treated better yes, but again, it makes the family more flawed with toxic traits, rather than abusive and heartless. In fact, I’m not that kinda person who constantly says “you missed the point of the movie” but……..if you think the family was abusive then….yeah, you missed the point of the movie. While they’re certainly flawed and living in a toxic environment where they’re not able to show vulnerability (aka open up) to one another and have to meet their standards, they’re not monsters that everyone makes them out to be. Heck, I wouldn’t even call Isabela a horrible person. She was a jerk to Mirabel yes, but she’s not a bad person. I’m not going to excuse Isabela’s actions one bit, I do think the writing could have been a tad better on her confrontation with Mirabel (mainly I wish Isabela realized she was wrong on her part as well instead of just Mirabel realizing it) but I think the biggest problem with people who say this are just……desperately try to find a villain when the whole point of the movie is that their IS NONE. It’s about a family who isn’t perfect in the slightest, and loves one another, regardless if they make the wrong decisions. It’s all about internal conflict, and struggles. As someone who watched interviews with directors Jared Bush and Bryon Howard, one of the main themes to this movie is that we can be so caught up in our own struggles that we don’t notice the other. The family loves Mirabel, but during the events of the movie they’re all just caught up in their own things. That doesn’t mean they were purposely trying to be neglectful or despised her for not having a gift, because I always saw a lot of people act like they purposely outcasted her when that wasn’t the case. I have the feeling (judging by the movie) that Mira constantly puts this mask on, telling them all she was okay with not having a gift, and hid it well with her bubbly personality. While I of course assume they comforted her the day she didn’t get one, eventually Mirabel moved on, and so did the family. If I’m being honest though, I feel like people will just say anything to make the family look bad. People seem to forget that her parent’s literally asked her if she was okay and that she had nothing to prove, her mother even tells Alma to be nice because she knew the night was going to be hard on her. If anything, the family seems to just accept that she doesn’t shine, because the only two characters that were ACTUALLY bad and antagonistic towards Mirabel were Isabela and Alma, but Alma being the biggest one. Regardless, yes, the whole family has their toxic traits. They could have been better, I’m not in the slightest going to act like they were perfect, but it doesn't mean they're terrible people undeserving of forgiveness, ESPECIALLY since they all have their own hardships. I’m not excusing some of their actions but like I said before, they’re all FLAWED characters. You could have said they may have not acknowledged or treated Mirabel the best but they’re not heartless characters that some of the fandom paints them out to be. They were all under their own pressure and had their own things going on, and again, while I’m not excusing it, I’m pretty sure one of the themes of the movie was that this family was living in a toxic way but they all just needed to realize it, which also made them realize just how much Mirabel shines. Still, that doesn’t mean that the family hated her or purposely made her an outcast, that’s just mean spirited. And yes, that counts for Abuela Alma as well, so while I’m not EXCUSING their faults, I have so say that they’re not heartless assholes.
Wether you agree or disagree with me, I only have one thing to say. Do NOT, make films like these black and white. The Encanto fandom in my eyes at least, has had a reputation for desperately searching for a villain, searching for the blame, making the film to be this “good vs. evil” plot when Encanto is NOTHING like that. I’ve seen SO many fans make this film out to be black and white, one side is just good, and the other is just bad, (in this case it would be Mirabel and Bruno vs the family) and that’s just…..not how it is guys. Everyone is human, everyone makes mistakes, everyone has toxic traits, everyone has their own imperfections and flaws. This movie is all about perspective. The directors, writers, they all said that. While the family and Alma can be unhealthy, you can understand where they’re ALL coming from. And yes, you can understand Alma. I don’t like how she treated Mirabel and what she said to her of course, but you can understand her in many ways, even if it’s rational or irrational, and that goes for all the members as well. That’s all I can say. I still love the family Madrigal, each and EVERY one of them. These characters are flawed, and that’s a good thing, heck, even Mirabel herself is flawed! They feel like real people, and even if a character will be in the wrong at one point, it’s amazing to see how they all come together in the end, and work to be BETTER, not just as people, but as a family. Goodnight! ❤️

Part 2 for @lovemesomechenford - Ashley (17 years later)
—————
Angela had wanted to buy out a local pool for the festivities, but Patrice was not having it. She had the space: the almost Olympic sized pool, the outdoor kitchen, lots of space for towels, chairs, floaters, plus she was great friends with Angela’s grandmother, who she had gotten to know over the years.
For Angela’s Abuela Maria’s 90th birthday party/family reunion only the best would do. They brought in extra tables and loungers for the families, bought all the food and beverages, gallons of sunscreen, hired a mariachi band, had a dance floor, and catered the entire event.
The only thing Patrice didn’t have were life guards on salary, so she put her assistant on it -the woman was a dynamo and could literally do anything.
Turns out Tim’s eldest son Patrick, sorry Kai (he much preferred an abbreviation of his Chinese middle name), life guarded during the summer and he put Tamara in touch with his boss.
Yes Tamara was taking a sabbatical from the FBI where she worked on missing kid cases as a profiler. Well until she met Davison and moved back to LA to get married. She loved the FBI but there were so many kids who were never found and every child who didn’t luck out like she did, broke her heart.
She met Davison on the obstacle course at Quantico. He was a former green beret who was hired to revamp the Hostage Rescue Team’s training program. Davison grew up in an itty bitty town in Minnesota and went to college in Madison, WI on an ROTC scholarship. Like Tim, he served two tours during which he quickly rose through the ranks and left the instant he could. Switching to the FBI was natural for him, he was a born leader. Strong, silent, a watcher who surveyed everything and missed nothing. Tall, blond, fit, and hilarious he fell in love with Tamara on the spot and spent two years convincing her it was her that fell in love with him first.
Tim had cried when Davison asked him for permission to propose to Tamara. Lucy’s puppy had become a Bradford shortly after Lucy did. Lucy laughed at her silly husband who grumbled when Davison left, saying “you do realize who he takes after right? She’s marrying a version of you. He looks at her the way you look at me. You big idiot. She just gave you the biggest compliment ever.”
Tamara is due to marry Davison in a few months, and yes, Tim will walk her down the aisle. In the meantime, Tamara has been helping Patrice out after she broke her hip and the two are inseparable.
When Tamara spoke to the Head Lifeguard, she didn’t realize the Ashley she was speaking with was the same one Tim had been dating when he was in denial about his feeling for Lucy. Ashley had eventually gotten married and had two older step kids who she never really gelled with. So when her husband died a few years ago, she was content to stay single and alone. She now lived in Malibu in a lovely ocean-access bungalow, the ocean her backyard. She was the Chief of Lifeguards now and ran the whole she-bang for L A County.
Tamara and Ashley made all the arrangements. As the call was closing she asked Tamara for her details so they could keep in touch, Tamara had said sure, I’m Tamara Bradford, my # is……. Ashley’s heart had stopped. Could she be related? Could Tim still be in the area? Could we reconnect and restart? Ashley wrote down the number and asked, “ Bradford? Are any of your relatives cops?” She could her the young woman smile through the phone, “Yes! I come from a family of cops. thanks for your help! Ashley couldn’t ask any more questions as Tamara had hung up.
Grabbing her iPad, she Googled Tim’s name and sees him receiving medals of distinction, getting promoted and retiring from the police force after a scary car accident while chasing a criminal through Compton.
But nothing about him getting married or having a family. Sweet. Let’s just make myself the 3rd lifeguard on this gig and see what happens.
——-
Two weeks later…..
Ashley drives through the Evers compound gate, checks in at the gatehouse, and drives through a lovey wooded area before arriving at the main house. As she gets out of her lifeguard truck to get her things, she hears kid’s laughter and a mariachi band playing. Tamara greets her at the door, and says oh thank god your here.. you have your first aid kit? We’ve had some injuries come on. Ashley goes into action mode and doesn’t really see the people around her. She works with Kai who clearly knows what he’s doing and helps clean up the blood from the pools edge.
Once they are done, Ashley turns to Kai to ask where he got his skills. Kai turns and points in a vague direction, “my mom made sure that if I was going to “surf in shark infested waters,” that I knew how to handle myself and others if a shark did attack.” Smart, Ashley thinks to herself. She takes a closer look at the young man in front of her. He’s deeply tanned, tall - over 6’, long and lean like a swimmer, but very in shape like a surfer. Once he takes off his sunglasses, Ashley’s heart skips a beat. Tim’s eyes are staring back at her. That can’t be right, the young man doesn’t look like Tim.
“KAI!” - she hears a voice yelling and she can remember when it whispered sweet nothings to her. Kai smiles at Ashley and says thanks for your help, he puts his red lifeguard shirt back on and runs off towards the voice. Ashley’s heart sinks when she sees BRADFORD across his strong back.
She follows Kai through the party, hoping to catch a glimpse of his dad. Maybe it’s not Tim. There could be other Bradfords.
From a distance she sees Tim, grayer than she remembered, but still fit, and gorgeous. He’s now got a nasty looking scar on his shoulder and down his arm. “ah, that’s why he retired.” She watches as Kai runs up to Tim and gives him a huge hug. When they separate, she watches Tim bring a young girl who’s 12ish into the conversation. The girl is gorgeous - big brown eyes, blond, shorter than Kai, but still growing. That girl is going to break some hearts for sure.
“Her name is Miren de. Chinese for lovely. We call her Mai. Miren de Diana Bradford -after Tim’s mom. Mai hasn’t decided if she prefers Mai or Diana yet. She loves it when her dad tells her stories about Diana - goddess of the countryside, hunters and the moon. She’s a romantic like he is.”
Ashley turns and sees Lucy, who’s carrying a small boy sound asleep and wrapped in a big fluffy towel with BRADFORD across in big blue letters. The boy is a mini Kai, same coloring but with shockingly blond wavy hair and green eyes. “This little guy is Timothy Shenqi Bradford. Shenqi is Chinese for magical. He goes by TJ and is a little terror. He got my gift of gab and Tim’s athleticism. Where Kai’s a surfer, TJ is a natural at both baseball and track. He’s 10, Mai is 12 going on 25, and Kai is almost 16.” Lucy lights up talking about her kids. Correction her and Tim’s kids.
“Ashley! Oh it’s so wonderful to see you! “. Lucy steps in front of Ashley and waves at Tim to come over.
Ashley finds her voice and says, “Yes, Hi. I wondered if the Bradford I saw on Kai’s back was linked to Tim. How are you and what’s going on?”
Lucy tells her that she and Tim have been married for almost 17 years. Kai was born on their 1 year anniversary. And that yes, they started dating right after she and Tim broke up. They got married about 4 months later, there was no reason to wait. Tim had been promoted to Watch Commander and then head of the TO training program and it was a total fluke he was in that car when it crashed. He’s been a stay-at-home Dad ever since and loves every second of it. For me, I’m a Deputy Chief in the Police Department. Which sounds fancy but I sit behind a desk listening to Yacht rock and I am the City Council liaison. I work closely with the mayor. I make policy. And hob nob. The best part is I get to go home at 5 pm and be with my family. I’m so blessed.”
By now, Tim has reached the pair. His eyes widen when he sees Ashley, but when he’s in front of her, he grabs her in a partial hug like he’s glad to see her. Lucy turns to him, and hands him their youngest as if they’ve done it thousands of times. He leans over and kisses her, pulls away and then kisses her again. Smiling while he says, love you to Lucy, oblivious of everyone else. Ashley realizes in that moment she’s made a mistake to come. Seeing Tim so happy with Lucy and their kids in the life he always wanted, hurts deeply because she realizes now, they were never meant to be and he let her down easy instead of leading her on into a future that just was never going to happen.
Ashley takes a step back and says she should head out. She waves goodbye and quickly walks back to her car and drives away.
Back inside the party, Patrice has the photographer take pictures of all the families for her mantle. The Bradford’s look especially joyful in theirs - just before they throw Tamara in the pool.
———-
I am not going to write one for Isabel. She’s not a solid character in my brain. So this will have to do.

One day, Virginia visited the Watcher Follower Church during the daytime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She'd been feeling lost in her own life for a while now. The words of Father Avery spoke to her.
Tumblr media
"The Watcher dictates our entire lives. They controls the events of our lives. They tell us who to be, what to wear, and yes, they decide when we die."
Tumblr media
He continued, "This is not to be feared my friends. The Watcher is good. They provide a Spirit Realm where our souls are safe and content."
Tumblr media
The crowd cheered. They words of Grim started to make sense to Virginia. Her Abuela was a very religious woman, maybe this was why her presence in the Spirit Realm was so strong.
Perhaps this Church could provide the answers she'd been seeking.
Tumblr media
Father Avery closed the sermon. "My friends, we must surrender to the will of the seasons. The Watcher sets our path with love."
Tumblr media
Virginia felt so moved by the words of the Father and the divine atmosphere of the Church. She introduced herself to several members after the service, feeling relieved she could finally discuss the morbid thoughts on her mind.

Note
Usually for Encanto!Hermits, I don't follow the storyline
But one time I imagined Grian as Bruno, with Mumbo and Scar as Augustin and Julietta for the sole purpose of Watcher/Cryptid Grian and bonding with Grumbot over being the family outcast
*cough* Xisuma is Abuela tho *cough*
X would never 😭😭😭😭

Of Manny Montanas characters, who do you think has watched any episodes of the Twilight Zone? If any, do they have a favorite/most thought-provoking/most chilling?
I actually put a weird amount of thought into this so, lemme know what you think:
Never seen it: Zap (Undrafted), Logan (I Hate the Man in my Basement)
Manny (Mayans MC) isn't a regular watcher, perse, but he'll sit and enjoy an episode or two if he catches a marathon or something on TV. He hasn't seen a lot of episodes, mostly just the ones that end up on Top Ten lists, but he likes "The Dummy", "The Lonely", and "Living Doll" the most so far.
Rio (Good Girls) randomly started watching it with his Abuela when he was a kid. Fav eps are "A Piano in the House", "A Nice Place to Visit", "Living Doll" and "Death's Head Revisited" because he loves seeing assholes get what's coming to them (coughcousinNick). He also likes "To Serve Men" for the twist at the end, and "The After Hours" because he always found the plot so intriguing as a kid. He likes to show others (Mick, Rhea) "It's A Good Life" because Rio thinks the plot and horror are so well done, and he is right.
Frankie (Conviction) started watching it in prison, and he was hooked. He got a few of the other guys to watch too, halfway for the show and half for the after show discussion Frankie always started afterwards. Frankie finds "People Are Alike All Over" to be especially compelling, as well as "The Sixteen-Millimeter Shrine"; he really feels for the protagonist. He also likes "Eye of the Beholder"; he hosted a 45 minute discussion in the library about that one the first time he saw it. But his all time favorite is probably "Nightmare At 20,000 Feet".
Johnny (Graceland) loves The Twilight Zone. He thinks about "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street" almost everytime he has to do crowd control for his job. His favorite episodes are "The Howling Man" for its intensity, "The Whole Truth" for its humor, and "Five Characters In Search Of An Exit" because it leaves his mouth open every time. Johnny also likes "The Chaser" because he feels like the main character got the perfect karma. He thinks "The Mask" is damn near perfect TV. He likes "Time Enough At Last", but he always feels really bad for the protagonist.
This was so fun, thank you anon! You really merged two of my loves: Manny characters and The Twilight Zone! What are YOUR favorite episodes?
Bonus:
Johnny intently watching "The Man In The Bottle" while workong out.
Tumblr media
He's my favorite.

Watcher AU | Casita
Tumblr media
The Casita of the Watcher AU is not a simple Casita. It’s size is magnitude in comparison with it’s role as a paramilitary-style like hub for the Watcher Services that help keep the Multiverse smooth sailing. It’s sentient like any other Casita and it sits at a size of a castle with a treeline to separate itself from the Districts that surround it.
The Casita itself is multiple stories high, varying between the towers and sections, each ‘level’ can have 2-4 floors depending on it’s usage and workers that are in active service. It’s more efficient the ways of the Watcher AU to grow in scale an add layers than just expanding outwards otherwise it’s too much important space consumed given it’s a ever-expanding flat-world, not a planet.
Court yard 1 The largest of the within-Casita spaces. Heavily used to help new recruits in an open space, especially with hand-to-hand combat. the first few weeks are the hardest after all. The space can be changed for other purposes, such as games, laser tag and Emergency space.
Courtyard 2  Second largest spaces, this is a more private space for the gifted workers for their outside training and for the Watcher Madrigals to spend their time when not working.
Entrance The Entrance is also a security check spot for those entering the first time; the Casita is designed to scan for weapons and record Quantum signatures to identify the person.
Communications Linked to the rest of the Casita; the whole building’s commination's run through this and is monitored constantly by a crew. Most workers are equipped with Walkie talkies or ear-comms that are relayed through the Communications stations Communications also run data gathering and organisation and only selective members have full access. There is a security clearance that runs on a colour-spectrum system. All Watcher Madrigals have clearance, but from there on, it’s by their digression or by their clearance-colours. Each worker, magic and non, has a clearance card on them in one form or another. Punishments and conflicts can remove or lower clearance levels. This is Watcher Dolores’s domain.
Medical tower The Medical tower is much broader than it’s appearance; as it’s floors and levels are for the different degrees in the medical side for it’s workers; both physical and mental; short term and long term care. Dependence on magical healing is split with technological care to balance out the need for when Watcher Julieta needs her rest. Medical tower has a strong connection to the tek tower and is primarily Watcher Julieta's domain.
Non-gifted Worker residence All workers are expected to be on site when in active duty. As they’re non-magical (nor married to a magical), they don’t need the space like magical people do so they typically have a room split for 2 people at a time. Workers on ‘holiday’ tend to spend time in an authorised AU or in one of the Districts
Training Tower Training Towers covers a huge basis than new combat, but also gifts and physical therapies for those with new, technologic limbs or healing injuries to keep in shape. There is everything to basic training to knife throwing. Not only is it just physical training but mental training; a school is also part of the tower for the new or old learners who want to branch into other topics. It’s convenient to have it all in the same tower than spread around.  Watcher Luisa works primarily in this area. Watcher Agustin and Watcher Felix are primarily in the schools for educational teaching.
Technological tower The Tek Tower, as it’s known is where the Technological development is centred at. The Tower crews help create stuff in-mass if required, like phones, computers, laptops or tablets or helps create for new needs, such as protheses (most common) or Implants. Tek Towers is maintained by Tek Felix was a portal/door straight to his AU for his convince. Tek Towers also has a huge number of those investing in communications as a support. All staff are required to be educated in technology. This is not negotiable.
Food Hall One of the biggest inside spaced that had the most foot traffic; the food hall is the hub for not only food but for communal socialising and fun. It’s a place to be for meeting friends and a go-to for organising events. It has food on the constant for those on a day, mid or night shift and food is serves more for a buffet style for anyone's choosing. Watcher Isabela helps keep food production up with the cooks and this is often where you’ll find her ang with Watcher Camilo who keeps the mood alive for morale.
‘Candle’ Room One of the most important rooms, this is protected by Magic and only Watcher Alma and Watcher Julieta can access this room by themselves. This room stores all the retrieved candles or extracted magic (from Casita’s) from AUs. Corrupt candles/magic are also here but are separated from the ‘normal’ candles. A candle can be used to fuel certain parts of the Watcher AU or to magically support something; to Watcher Alma’s digression.
Watcher residence All 12 Watchers have their room, excluding Watcher Agustin and Watcher Felix who co-habit with their respective partner.
Gifted Worker Residence All gifted workers have their own room. This is a need-be for those to hone and craft their gifts and hobbies and allows them the room to be ad big as needed and will change to suite the needs of the owner. It can have multiple people inside for co-habiting for a partner and young child (until the age of 5; then they get their gifted room close by). Doors/Rooms can be moved by necessity or convenience.
The Labs. Science labs for chemical and biological works, to both research and advancement. The labs will run co-works with the technological and other divisions in the name of science.
A Human being
Car Park To travel, portals are mostly used but cars and wagons are also a go-to for those wanting the traditional means or the need of familiarity if they’re of an less-advanced AU. This is a storage of where such vehicles are kept. (regular casita’s are about the size of the car park; for a sense of scale)
Vehicle size
Shooting range. Self-Explanatory. Mostly new recruits are taken here to ensure the safety of personnel and covers most ranged-weapons from guns to bows.
Animal care. Watcher Antonio’ domain, primarily in upkeeping the livestock of the Watcher AU for the district's aid or food, depending on it’s usage and animals.
Runner’s Pathway A path around the Casita is a gruelling run for either new recruits or those being punished. The pathways connect to roads out towards the districts
Armoury Self-explanatory. The Armoury contains various amounts of weapons used for offence or defence. melee weapons, to all types of guns and both lethal and non-lethal. Heavily protected, and clearance cards are a must to even walk through the door. All records are kept to ensure nothing goes missing and all weapons are looked after. The Armoury has a subsection for both protective gear as well; basic protective vests to energy-based amour to underwater gear; there’s gear to cover most bases
more can be added for when I develop this AU and casita more.

Dad had officially been missing for 5 months now. This far in Sam had really just gotten used to it. It was a pretty sucky thing to have to admit, but it's true.
What was once a raging, heart-stabbing pain had dulled down to a low but ever present ache. Sometimes certain things happened over the past few months that renewed that pain, things like his parents' anniversary or that father-daughter dance at his little sister's school. He took Kae to the dance and distracted his mom as best he could, but then the big holidays started hitting.
Dia de Los Muertos, Navidad y las Posadas, and now Dia de Reyes.
Celebrating the Day of the Dead had gotten somber, especially since a few weeks prior his helmet had decided to show him a giant map to all the dead Novas in the galaxy. He had no idea how he was supposed to honor them, but he hoped the ofrenda his mom and sister helped him put together was sufficient. They hadn't put up dad's picture, mostly because they were certain he was still alive out there somewhere.
(Not to mention putting him up on the altar felt a bit too much like they were giving up. Which they weren't. Not yet.)
The whole Christmas season thankfully was always an all-hands-in kind of affair. Abuela and their uncles took care of everything while mamá picked up extra shifts at the diner. At least this year there was no worrying about dad getting drunk at any of the several family dinners that happened. After that there was just one more hurdle to jump through.
Three Kings Day.
It was a bit like Navidad, but a much smaller affair. The way their family did it was with just the four of them. Mamá would make the rosca de reyes, and dad would play music on his guitar(one of the things he actually had been really good at). Then after reading the story about the three kings, their parents would remind them to leave their shoes out so that they could get filled with gifts.
Personally, he found the shoe part a bit silly the older he got, but the tradition mattered to his parents, and Kaelynn always got so excited about it. He didn't mind playing along if it meant that much to the people he loved.
It wasn't until a day or two before that he realized mamá had completely forgotten about their family's little celebration.
Usually the week leading up to it you could hear dad practicing songs on his guitar, and mamá was not so subtly trying to figure out what to put in his and Kae's shoes. So while she was busy working, Sam figured it was up to him this year to try and salvage it.
During one of their mom's shifts he called Abuela asking what he should grab for the King Cake, and after hastily writing it down he dragged Kae to the store with him. With Carefree as small as it was, they only had to walk a short five or six minutes to the store. Faster if he used his helmet, but he was trying to be a bit more responsible in his usage of said item.
He hadn't heard anything from the UFO watchers in a while, but you could never be too careful.
"Why do we have to go to the store?" Kae whined, purposely trying to drag her feet as Sam toted her along. She was trying to slip her hand out of his, which in turn only made him strengthen his grip.
Only had to lose her once at the zoo to know that his little sister could not be trusted, she was a runner. Sam would have been impressed at her speed if it hadn't been for the heart attack that immediately followed.
"I already told you mija, we have to find the ingredients for the King Cake." He answered her with the kind of tone that suggested that this was not the first time he had to answer this question.
"But mamá always makes the cake!"
She tried tugging her hand away again.
That's it.
He's had enough.
"She doesn't have the time for it this year!" He bit out a tad more harshly than he meant to. Kaelynn stopped her tugging and stared at him with wide, hurt eyes.
Great. Now he's acting like a complete jerk to his little sister. Way to go, Sam. Time to do some damage control.
He took in a deep breath, kneeling on the ground in front of his sister. Putting his hands on her shoulders, he looked her straight in the eye. Or well, tried to. She was refusing eye contact.
"I'm sorry for being mean, that was uncalled for." He swallowed, continuing, "Since dad left, things have been different, which I think you've noticed, right?"
She nodded numbly, this time lifting her face so that he could see her eyes.
"Things have been really hard for mamá, even if she won't show it. I know it's usually her and dad that take care of everything for the holidays, but that just isn't the case this year. It's up to you and me now, got it?"
His little sister tilted her head, as if mulling over everything he just told her. After a few seconds she nodded a bit more enthusiastically and flung her arms around her brother. Sam returned the hug, squeezing his little sister as tight as he could.
He really wished his little sister didn't have to go through this. She was only five. That was way too young to be wondering where the hell your dad was.
(14 isn't much better, a small bitter voice whispers to him in his head. He ignores it.)
After a minute they broke the hug. Jerking his head over his shoulder he motioned for her to climb onto his back. Kae clambered onto him with zero hesitation. Springing back up to his feet and with his sister secured on his back piggy-style, they continued on their way to the store.
The store Abuela told they go to thankfully had everything they needed on the list, and since the owner was old friends with her they even got some of the stuff for cheaper than they would have somewhere else. They had gone after school so by the time they made it home it was close to 4pm. Mom was working a double today, so she probably wouldn't be home till around 8.
That should give them more than enough time to figure this out. Hopefully.
Walking into the kitchen he spread out all the ingredients they had in their grocery bags. He then pulled down the family recipe book that he knew their mother kept on top of the fridge and flipped through the pages until he found what he was looking for.
After reading it over a few times, Sam then propped his younger sister on the counter next to the ingredients and gave her simple instructions.
"When I say something, hand it to me okay?" He said as he positioned the recipe book at an angle that he could read while moving around.
"Kay kay." She chirped, messily rolling up her sleeves. Sam helped her fix them before he did his own.
"First things first, let's make the dough." He said, opening the cabinet and grabbing the large mixing bowl. "Flour, salt, and yeast please?"
Kaelynn's eyes scanned the ingredients before grabbing the flour and salt. She looked unsure about the last one. After careful deliberation, she finally picked up a small random bag.
"That's not it." He snorted, grabbing the yeast himself. Kaelynn muttered something under her breath. He peered down at her. "What was that?"
"Don't laugh. I'm still new at reading." She repeated, louder this time.
"Sorry Kae, I wasn't trying to make fun of you."
She gave him an unimpressed stare that eerily looked kinda like mom's, it gave him shivers. An idea popped into his head, and he reached a hand over and ruffled her hair, smirking as she scowled at him.
"You're gonna ruin my braids!"
She was smiling now though, so he was counting it as a win. From that point they continued working on the dough, with him patiently helping her figure out the new words she came across. Finally they reached the point where he could roll it out.
"Is it supposed to sticky?" Kaelynn asked, poking at the dough and making an obvious face of disgust when it stuck to her fingers. Sam shrugged.
"I followed the recipe, it's alright. Hold on a moment, I need to go grab something."
He left to the other room.
Once her older brother was out of sight, Kaelynn looked around the counter, clearly bored out of her mind until she spotted something. Grabbing the bag labelled 'Flour' she stuck her hand into it and pulled out a fistful of white powder. She padded it over the rolled out dough. Once it stopped being as sticky she clapped her hands together, admiring her work.
"There, no more sticky." She said gleefully, wiping her hands on her shirt, which left white streaks of flour on it. Whatever. She was going to have to change into pajamas soon anyways.
Sam finally walked back in.
"I found the baby Jesus- Kae, what happened to your shirt?" He put one hand on his hip, and the other one waved the baby Jesus figurine erratically at her.
"I fixed the cake."
Sam resisted the urge to slam his head into a wall, and grabbing his sister under the arms he gently placed her on the ground.
"Thanks, but now you're a mess. Go get ready for a bath, I'll be there in a minute." He shooed her away, and took a look at the damage.
He had no idea how one would go about removing excess flour, besides shaking it off. Oh well, it didn't look like it was that much. It would bake out or something, right?
Eh, it'd be fine. It was just one tiny mistake.
He finished up by covering the dough and setting the kitchen timer for it to rest.
Out of nowhere he heard the unmistakable sound of running water. He bolted to the bathroom.
"Kae I said wait for me-"
Bath time thankfully ended better than it started. His sister was getting to the phase where she wanted to do everything on her own, which he understood. But he also didn't feel like filling up the entire house with bubbles, as he had managed to stop her just in time before she succeeded in her goal of dumping the entire bottle of bubble bath solution.
Not that he can really say much, he knows he hadn't been an easy kid either. Unfortunately karma had to come back for him in the form of his adorable little sister.
If he remembers later, he should apologize to his mom for being a demon spawn of a child.
"Can I watch Avengers?" Kaelynn asked as he was finishing retying her braids. His hairwork wasn't nearly as good as their mother's, but he was getting better.
Carrie had worn her hair in this pretty fishtail braid at school right before break, maybe he could text her and ask for tips-
No, she was still pissed at him. He thinks. She did babysit Kae for him that one time, and she was speaking more and more to him again.
Realizing he was taking a long time to answer, he replied,
"Sure thing."
"Can I watch two episodes instead of one?"
"We'll see."
Mom wouldn't allow it, so it's a good thing he's an older brother. While Kae watched her show, he could continue the cake-making in peace.
Okay, the second resting period was over and now it was time to throw the thing in the oven. He checked the clock. It was almost 6:30pm. A bit later than he had hoped, but still manageable.
He paused for a second before picking up the cake. When did he put in the baby Jesus? Before or after baking the cake?
He scanned the recipe book again. His Abuela's handwriting was nearly impossible to decipher, especially with it all being in Spanish.
He was a much better speaker than he was a reader.
After another attempt of a full read through, Sam just decided to through caution to the wind and folded the little plastic figure into the dough. After all, sticking it in later would probably just ruin the cake, right?
He gently placed it on the oven and called for his little sister.
"Kae, want to make the cake decorations?"
He smiled as he heard her slide into the kitchen. For someone so tiny his sister sure made a lot of noise.
Together they pre-arranged the fruit in the way they would put it on the cake, chatting about anything and everything. While making the cake themselves was new, the atmosphere wasn't. He could almost pretend for a bit that things were back to normal, that mom was busy hiding gifts in their shoes and dad was in the living room, practicing a new song.
"Sammy, something smells really bad." Kaelynn commented, nose scrunching adorably.
He snapped out of his reverie, only to come to a horrible realization.
"Aw mierda!" He cussed as he rushed over to the oven.
"Hey! Mamá says we're not allowed to say that!"
"Not the time Kae!"
He turned off the oven, and using a hot pad he opened it up, coughing as he was met with a face-full of smoke.
Dropping the cake pan onto the stove top, his heart sank. The cake was lopsided, and very, very burnt.
"It doesn't look like mama's." Kae said, standing on her tiptoes as she tried to get a better look.
"No, it doesn't." He agreed mournfully.
"Do you think baby Jesus survived?" She asked.
Sam eyed the monstrosity.
"I think it's safe to say he didn't make it Kae."
The smell of burning plastic was too pungent to ignore. Part of him wanted to cry. He knew it was just a cake, but it wasn't just a cake. Dad not being here sucked, even if the man was an alcoholic. The worst he did was just pass out in random places, forcing Sam to or one of his uncles to find him and drag him home.
Even if being the school's janitor was embarrassing, at least it meant his dad was still here.
It's been five months. Five months with a sad little sister and an even sadder mom, five months of growing up faster than he should have, five months of chasing down leads and finding nothing.
When would things start getting better?
"It's okay Sammy." His little sister had wrapped her arms around his waist, holding onto her brother as tightly as she could.
And just like that, he couldn't hold it in anymore.
One tear escaped, and then another and then he was full on sobbing. He broke away from Kae and sank to the ground, pressing his back onto one of the cabinets. His little sister, his impossibly sweet and understanding little sister crawled over to him and patted his shoulder, trying her best to comfort him.
He continued to cry, not knowing how to stop it. If he even could stop it.
Pretty sure he's been bottling up five months worth of tears.
"It's okay." Kaelynn repeats over and over until his cries eventually die down.
He wipes at his face, cringing when he feels the snot rubbing off on his hand. Gross.
Kaelynn had tucked herself up into his side, holding onto his other hand. Looking up at him she asks quietly,
"Were you crying because you miss daddy?"
He nods.
"Yeah, I am."
"It's okay to cry. That's what mamá says."
"I know. It's just... hard. Sometimes."
Kaelynn doesn't say anything else after that, she just lets him pull her into his lap and wraps her arms around his neck, doing her best to hold him together.
After the scene in the kitchen, the siblings manage to put together a game plan. They may not be able to eat the cake, but Kaelynn did point out that they could still decorate it.
So that's what they do.
And it actually turns out pretty nice, especially when they cover up most of the burnt parts.
Click.
That was the front door. Mom was home. Sam straightened himself up, Kaelynn copying his movements. Another phase of hers she's been having, he found it amusing.
She reached for his hand, which he gladly accepted. After his breakdown, it was nice to remember that they were in this together. A united front of sorts.
"Mis pollos, I'm home!" Their mom announces her presence, dropping her purse on the entry table and slipping off her shoes.
Walking into the kitchen she sees her children standing suspiciously in front of the stove. She places her hands on her hips and gives them the patented Mom look.
Sam hopes the smell of burnt plastic isn't too obvious, he spent a good 20 minutes fanning out the kitchen.
His mom pinches her nose while making a face, and that's when he knows they're doomed.
"Why does it smell so bad in here?"
Sam and Kaelynn share a look and awkwardly shuffle away from the counter, revealing the burnt and lumpy glob of flour and fruit cooling on top of the stove.
"Sorry mamá, it was supposed to be a King Cake, but we kind of..." Sam trailed off, looking anywhere but his mother.
"We killed baby Jesus." Kaelynn deadpanned.
Eva looks at the sad attempt of cake, then at her children, then back at the cake. And then she proceeds to double over in laughter, clutching her stomach.
Kaelynn tugs on her brother's shirt, concerned. "Did we break mommy?"
Sam shakes his head back and forth, at a loss for words. He had expected angry mom, or disappointed mom, or even shocked mom!
He wasn't prepared for this.
Their mom gets her laughter under control after a few minutes, and she gives them a fond look.
"I knew I was forgetting something!" She exclaims as she wipes a tear from her eye. Stepping over to investigate the cake, she pokes at it with one of the mixing spoons Sam forgot to put away.
Sam holds his breath as he awaits her judgement.
"Well, we definitely can't eat this." She confirms, tapping the spoon against one of the particularly charred spots. "But it does look very pretty. Much better than your father's first attempt."
Both of the sibling's attention is caught by that last statement.
"Daddy made a cake too?"
Eva lets out a heavy sigh, and pulls both of her children into a loose hug.
"It was our very first Dia de Reyes together. We were still figuring out our traditions then, and well like this year, I had completely forgotten about the cake." She continues the story as she walks her children into the living room, settling them all onto the couch, an arm around each of them. "So your father decided, with a bit of encouragement from your Uncle Silvio, that he would make it."
"That doesn't sound so bad." Sam comments.
Eva smiles.
"Ah, but you see, there was one thing your father forgot about."
"What?" Kae pipes up, impatiently.
"He has no idea how to bake." She laughs. "When he cracked the egg, he left the shell in, added in a whole orange for some reason, and then he turned the oven up to 475 degrees instead of 375, because he couldn't read your Abuela's handwriting!"
Sam threw his head back, groaning.
"I did that last one. Her threes really do look like fours."
He leans his head against his mom's shoulder, and feels her press a kiss onto his forehead.
"Thank you mijo, I appreciate what you've been doing."
"Huh?"
"I know it's been hard on you, since your father disappeared. And I know you've been doing your best to be brave, and take care of me and your sister. I want you to remember though, that you're still allowed to be a kid. Don't grow up too fast for me." She kisses him again after the last sentence. And then she does the same to Kaelynn. "Either of you."
"I'll keep that in mind mamá." He buries his face in her shoulder, feeling like he might cry again.
But now he knows that it's okay if he does. While he's been taking care of his mom and sister, he forgot that they can and will take care of him too.
After all, they're a family. It's a little broken, but it's still good.
And that's enough for him.

Mirabel The Vampire Slayer Part 3
Tumblr media
Dolores poor girl heard everything that was going down between Alma and Senora but the worst thing is that she knows that there could be a slayer in training inside of Encanto, who will be called to fight and most likely lose her life in battle. Knowing that Mrs.Guzman and Mariano is a Watcher and Watcher-in-training are actively protecting the potential slayers identity.
She decides to keep that to herself as she’s crying and hyperventilating because eleven year old Dolores is scared and confuse. She focuses on her own warm color coded side of the families heart beats to help calm her down because mostly through out her life, abuela has been saying that because Pedro was a Watcher then so was she.
But being married to one vs having the credentials and being the real deal Watcher is extremely different, as she told her parents Pepa and Felix with five year old Camilo eating some arepas because of his gift and relaxing.
At this revelation they didn’t want to believe her at first but they remembered that Dolores hears everything and that she’s not a liar (proceeds to keep the location of Bruno Magrigal a secret), it’s pretty well known in the Madrigal family that Senora Guzman is an official Watcher and that she’s teaching her son Mariano to become a Watcher when he’s older. That the both of them are actively keeping the actual potential slayers identity a secret for her safety, not knowing that whoever she is, is actually Mirabel their own relative.
When it was time for dinner Alma made the announcement that Isabela will someday be the next Vampire Slayer and that she’ll need to start her training immediately for when her other powers will come in. The family that are colored coded calming colors were surprise, (except for Mirabel already knowing her own destiny as potentially the next slayer. Senora Guzman had told her with regret in her voice knowing that she’ll someday let a child fight a war that she didn’t choose to be apart of, that the calling could happen at any point in time. Mrs.Guzman is more than willing to teach her the knowledge of being a Watcher along with Mariano on how to control her potential powers someday while studying demonology and more to come.) (Also with the warm colored coded family after Dolores told them the truth about Alma being a fake Watcher who has been deceiving them for all these years. Pepa had to control her emotions as to not give away that she now knows the truth.) because Isabela already has an amazing gift and now she’s going to become a noble hero someday. Sure not right now but the title of being a Vampire Slayer is an Big Honor in their family, after all of the stories of The Slayer who Pedro Madrigal was training and watching after all it does make since that Isabela will become the next Vampire Slayer. The whole family was smiling and congratulating the eleven year old in pink not knowing the stress and turmoil going through Isabela.
Isabela is smiling and basking in all of the unwanted attention that was given to her, her eyes landed on her youngest hermana Mirabel and starts to resent her, because she didn’t get a gift that would lessen the burden of being perfect all the time for her. Now she herself has to fight monsters which puts more pressure on being even more perfect, she would do anything just to be in Mirabels place with no gift and predetermined destiny (no you don’t), because having no gift and predetermined destiny is better than having all this pressure that Isabela is going to be under once she starts training.
When Julietta asked who will be training Isabela Alma told them all that Senora and her had a fight, that Mrs.Guzman along with Mariano will not be the one training her. Alma will pick someone else to teach Isabela how to fight as long as she’s supervising them both, she wants her granddaughter to be prepared to fight the evil creatures that plague the earth.
After eating dinner everyone went to bed some of them somewhat knowing and others not knowing what the future holds.

Romero Household: Chapter 1, Part 1
Settling in to San Sequoia.
Tumblr media
Also yes, I realise Marta's sleepwear is more revealing than before but I realised I gave her this cute birthmark and tattoo only for them to hardly be seen so a outfit restyle was in order. Plus it's just her and Keira in the house now.
Marta’s first language is Spanish so she is teaching Keira (and me) some common phrases Si: Yes Por favor: Please Bueno: Good, fine, okay Carino: Term of endearment for a loved one Cómo estás?: How are you No tan bien: Not really good… Ay dios mio: omg equivalent Gracias: Thank you Qué?: What? Buenas tardes: Good afternoon Abuelo/Abuela: Grandfather/Grandmother Padre: Father Lo siento: Sorry
Autumn has begun and we find ourselves in the cloudy harbour of San Sequoia where two lovers sleep in a small unit dreaming of their wedding. The passing ferry horn hardly wakes them now, they’ve begun to get used to the sound. Keira is often keen to get up and start the day, it just usually involves untangling herself from Marta.
Keira: Sweetheart, I’m going to get up
Marta: Si
Keira: That means you have to let go
Marta holds on tighter.
Marta: No
Keira chuckles and kisses the smaller woman on the forehead.
Keira: I need breakfast, can I go por favor
Marta: *sighs* bueno
Tumblr media
The couple head downstairs where Marta makes a beeline for the kettle. Normally she'll be singing as she does it but today she is strangely quiet.
Keira: How are- umm… cómo estás?
Marta: Ay dios mio, no tan bien. My belly hurts
Keira: Are you worried about Day of the Dead tomorrow?
Marta: No. I’m looking forward to Dia de los Muertos. I think I’ve got a bug
Keira: Then you need to rest today
Marta: No. Carino I have cooking I need to do
Keira: Don’t care. If you’re sick, you need to rest. Lots of green tea and naps
Tumblr media
Marta: *sighs* fine. The water is done, I’ll have tea
Keira: And then nap?
Marta: *pouts* Carino we only just woke up
Keira: I don’t want you getting more sick
Marta: Gracias. You are sweet but carino, the food is important
Keira: I’m trying to understand. I just… my family always taught me that when a person is in the forever save, they stay there. It’s hard to think that maybe they can come back at all
Marta: Si. I know, and I love you for trying to understand it all
Keira: Well our kids will have to understand it so I better get a headstart
Marta: What kids are these
Keira: You know, our future imaginary ones
Marta giggles but is happy Keira wants to grow their family.
Tumblr media
Marta sits down to slowly sip her tea, looking like she may just throw up any minute. Keira tries to think of something they can talk about to distract her fiance from her bad tummy.
Keira: Test me
Marta: Que?
Keira: On the ofrenda. I want to see how much I remember
Marta: Bueno. Why did we make the ofrenda
Keira: To… welcome back the spirits of your ancestors? Like to invite them into our home and celebrate their life?
Marta: Si. We would have put pictures of your ancestors to, but you don’t have those?
Keira: No *sighs* would have been cool though
Marta: What is the top level traditionally for
Keira: I know this one! The top level is about the heavens, I love the word heavens, and is about the connection between the departed souls and the watcher
Marta: Si. That is why we have the plumbob, the symbol of the watcher, in white
Keira: Why is it white though? I thought religion taught that plumbobs were green, yellow or red
Marta: Si but it is the plumbob of our loved ones that have passed. They have completed what they were put in the save for so their plumbob is white. You know from science si? White holds all the colours
Tumblr media
Keira: That confused me so much because mum taught us all about paint and in that black is all the colours. But yeah during my degree they said white light has every colour
Marta: The second level?
Keira: That’s where we put the photos because… I forgot. But I remember we put the pictures on so that the spirits know where to go, and that they can be remembered when we tell their stories
Marta: Si. It is the heart. We can also put things that belonged to them that were important. Why do we use candles and flowers?
Keira: The candles light the way for the sprits, and so do the marigolds but with smell
Marta: Si, there’s also just a lot of them in Mexico. And the bottom level
Keira: Where we put the food but can totally skip it if you’re unwell
Marta: Gracias carino but *rubs forehead* it is not like leaving cookies for Father Winter. The food is important. The spirits travel a long way, it is a journey. Making food and drink helps nourish them and is part of honouring them. That’s why they go at the bottom level, to tie into the…. physical world
Keira: I see. I don’t want you to overdo it but it’s clearly important. Just promise me you’ll rest for a bit before jumping into cooking
Marta: Grilling! It tastes better. *gags* ay dios mio, I do think I should have a nap first. I feel like throwing up
Tumblr media
So while Marta sleeps to try and get through the burning belly symptoms, Keira goes for her normal run. It may be cloudy but she’s quickly fallen in love with the neighbourhood. They may have moved here for her job, and to hide a bit from Marta’s jerk of an ex, but Keira can see her and Marta raising their family here. Their unit neighbours seem nice enough and there’s plenty of space for kids to run around.
Tumblr media
When Keira gets back home she jumps online to look up more about the conservation efforts in the area. Last week at work a colleague mentioned there might be upcoming law change and Keira wants to make sure she knows what she can about the current state of things. Following her nap Marta has a shower in the afternoon and heads out past the picture of her grandparents.
Marta: Buenas tardes. I’m going to make Chimi first, your favourite abuelo
At the grill Marta sets about preparing the burgers. She’s already made all the fillings and just needs to cook the patty right. Abuelo Manuel always had a particular way of doing it that he insisted made it extra juicy and was happy to supervise her and her padre Rafael to make sure they were cooked to perfection.
Tumblr media
With the chimi finished Marta set about making the elote, her abuela Maria’s favourite. When Maria was growing up in Mexico she and her friends used to love buying some for the street vendors after school on Fridays. Maria always said it reminded her of the freedom of the weekend. When the corn is cooked and covered in the sauce, Marta begins on the last dish, Pollo a la Brasa, peruvian style chicken. While her mama Aymee grew up in Cuba, her parents were originally from Peru and on special occasions would take her out for the delicious dish. After they passed her mama would make the dish when Marta was growing up as a special treat to celebrate. Marta hoped her mama would enjoy it.
Tumblr media
Marta feels another wave of nausea hit her and she wavers. She knows Keira is right and she should rest but she needs to make this food for her familia.
Margarita: You okay Marta?
Marta: Que? Si Margarita, estoy bien. Cómo estás?
Margarita: Huh? I'm afraid my parents never taught me Spanish
Marta: Lo siento. How are you?
Margarita: Enjoying a respite, both boys are asleep at the same time. What are you cooking?
Marta: Food for Dia de los Muertos tomorrow
Margarita: Oh is that why the spooky décor is up
Marta: Si, I checked with the property manager and he said it was fine
Tumblr media
Marta: Hola Stefan
Margarita: What are you doing out here? What about the kids?
Stefan: The monitors are on, my phone will buzz if they start fussing in their cribs. I just felt like some air
Marta: I would have thought Saturdays were busy for work
Stefan: Not so much. Most of my clients schedule appointments during the week, a lot have families to spend the weekend with
Keira: Marta! Have you finished cooking? I could smell it through the window
Stefan: Can we have some
Keira: Sorry Stefan, it’s for family, to help their spirits make the journey to visit
Marta smiled at Keira remembering, and she was certainly too nauseous to eat any of it today. When Keira offered Mara let her help carry all the food up the stairs and into their home.
