Read "Suki, Alone". Liked it in general. But can they please, please hire someone who knows both the show's actual events and how to follow through on a character arc? Because guys. Guys. That comic is not implying about Suki what they meant it to be implying, and all because of literally one line.
So like. From a writer's standpoint:
What they meant to do: show Suki as a community-oriented person who cares for her people, and believes in everyone succeeding together.
As opposed to (spoilers): the thief girl they set her up in contrast with, who's pretty upfront and consistent on primarily looking out for herself. She betrays Suki for one (1) corn chip to improve her own life at the prison, no surprise.
But the problem is: they give Suki an inspirational line to the effect of "we're all working together and we'll all break out together"
You know
The thing she does not do in the show
So if both the show and this comic are canon, then instead of setting up a compare/contrast with the thief girl, they've just set up a comparison. One were Suki is arguably worse, because she's been leading a significant number of prisoners on with her "we'll all fight and win our freedom together!" business, only to straight up cut them out of the escape loop and abandon them, whereas the thief is only leading Suki on in the sense that Suki keeps telling her what it's morally correct to think and confuses snide replies with agreement
My dudes. My fellow writers. You people actually being paid for this. There were so many ways to fix those awful implications against our girl's character, the simplest of which would be to not include that line. Or they could have, you know, made it canon compliant with what actually happens in the show, so that this comic doesn't set Suki up as a betrayer instead of a community builder. Like... just send all her good prison buddies off to other prisons in the wake of the warden finding out they're colluding. Have it timed to be right before the next new prisoners arrive, thus setting it immediately before the Boiling Rock episodes, so Suki didn't have anyone left in the prison she'd want to take with her on a breakout. For bonus points, include a page or two of her and her Kyoshi warriors opening up the cell of one of her prison friends post-war, thus implying she's tracking down and actually fulfilling her promises. Maybe even show her doing the same with thief girl, who was established as being imprisoned on false charges anyway, and also showing that Suki is A) the bigger person, and B) willing to acknowledge her own role in mistakes (because I cannot emphasize enough how much thief girl was not hiding her own priorities, and it was Suki who approached HER with all this, not the girl ever doing anything special to weasel her way in) (this would also open up an opportunity for paralleling Suki's earlier in-comic mistake of not listening to one of her friend's very valid thoughts and feeling, which lead to the girl leaving their island alone pre-canon; a "seeing people as they are, not what you want them to be" moment)
Anyway yeah enjoyable enough for a quick read but another one for the "this can't be canon or the characters are So Much Worse than they were in the actual show" pile
At least Aang didn't promise to murder anyone in this one

Personal pet peeve: When a particular character has a lot of paperwork and such associated with their job and it has been established in universe that the work is extremely hard, complicated, and tedious but then in fanfic another character in another job position takes up this character's paperwork and does it perfectly. That's not how this works. That's not how any of this works.
Paperwork is not some nebulous pile of papers so easy that anyone can just waltz in and fill it up just like that. Paperwork, especially for large organisations, requires specific training and knowledge. A particular situation might have at least ten forms associated with it depending on how it happened, when it happened, who were involved, who were affected, who filed the initial report etc. It could be form A.1, it could be form B8, it could be G3 or D-3.2e, and then it has to be filed away in a specific way under a specific designation. At times it could be completely nonsensical but still necessary and part of proper procedure....all of that requires training and experience. Someone from a totally unconnected role can't just take over this position and do an excellent job at it, unless it has been previously established that they too had prior training and guidance in this.
Example: Cale(KRS) and Basen Henituse in Trash of the Count's Family. Kim Rok Soo before trasmigration into Cale Henituse was a team leader who has experience with important official documentation and paperwork for the Company. Basen Henituse is established to have been send to territory heirship classes and doing well in them. These two people being able to take on the other's paperwork load is not at all farfetched. (Same with Cale and Alberu though the latter would still have to sign and seal his insignia separately in the end.)
So no someone who's untrained can't just take someone else's paperwork and just breeze through them unless they are like supernaturally intelligent to the point of figuratively downloading all the necessary data and information directly into their brain or something.
Let's not even talk about how the character might have a particular way and organisation of doing things and someone else taking over their workload without permission might just mess that order up and their well intended actions might end up doing more harm than good.
Look at MXTX's Shang Qinghua or Ling Wen. As I'm reading SVSSS right now let's take it as an example.
Someone who can conduct and lead an audit: Shang Qinghua, specifically trained as an auditor. Yue Qingyuan- can possibly fill in for a specific kind of audit.
Someone who cannot conduct an audit: Literally every other Peak Lord on Cang Qiong. Not trained for it. Should not be in charge of it.
Someone who can file in medical paperwork: Mu Qingfang, head of medical operations in the sect.
Someone who can't do that: his Peak Lord colleagues. At most they'll be able to file in incident reports and other such forms that guardians of patients will have to fill in at a hospital.
People involved with merchants and associated business transactions: Shang Qinghua(logistics expert-procurement logistics), and for large contracts, Yue Qingyuan(Sect Leader). Other Peak Lords depending on the goods. For example the Zui Xian Peak Lord when they are negotiating prices for the raw materials or equipment for alcohol brewing or Wei Qingwei when they are sourcing metal.
Someone who can handle annual budgeting: Shang Qinghua. Person who allocates the funds according to the final budget- Yue Qingyuan.
Persons who can't do that: His colleagues who are definitely not trained in finances and accounting.
And so on and so on.
Shang Qinghua was invited back to the sect after literal treason because nobody else could do his job. That should tell you that people without specific training can't just take over the paperwork of another person's job unless their own jobs are connected enough to be sufficiently similar that they can handle it.
So no someone like Shen Qingqiu who's a scholar and tactician primarily, can't take the entirety of Shang Qinghua's or Mu Qingfang's or Yue Qingyuan's paperwork and fill it in for them, no matter how intelligent he is. Though I'm sure Yue Qingyuan would let him sect be damned lmao.
You see things like this in many other fandoms as well. Innocuous forms that anyone can fill in are okay but complicated paperwork for auditing, budgeting, logistics, diplomacy, business transactions, internal affairs, etc? No way. That all takes time to familiarize with before even properly filing them let alone actually doing them.
This is of course a personal pet peeve as I mentioned from the beginning. People are free to write what they want, read what they want, like what they want. This is no way an accusation towards particular individuals. It's just that for me it breaks immersion pretty quickly.

Hello!! I followed you for your absolutely amazing Twisted Wonderland comics (thank you for making them, by the way-) but I saw you posting about something called Ride Kamens? I haven’t heard of it before, what’s it about? Or if that’s a bit much to ask, where could I find more info about it? It seems right up my alley 👀
Thank you!
thank you! :> :> :> (this is also for the other anon who asked about where to find it, I am honored to be infecting the world spreading interest in this silly game)
Ride Kamens is still doing prerelease marketing and isn't out yet; it's set for "early summer 2024", so a bit yet to go! similar to Twst, it's a mobile game about anime boys loosely based on an existing franchise (Kamen Rider), although it seems like it's going to be more standalone/won't require familiarity with Rider going in.
the (very) basic premise is that your player character has just taken over their late father's role as a secret agent, supporting the city's superheroes by running a secret base disguised as a cafe (plus you have a personal butler for some reason) (the reason is because it's amazing). you also have to help the heroes regain their lost memories, and it looks like it'll have a bit of a route/choice aspect there (not romance, just different endings to the character episodes depending on what you do). the details are kinda hard to tell at this point but the characters seem like a really fun bunch; there's definitely big "idiots with emotional problems" energy which I am extremely into.
all the official info is in Japanese only at the moment, but here's the website and the ride_kamens twitter! (though the twitter is sort of overtaken by posts about the AnimeJapan exhibit right now, whoops.) and I believe some people are already planning on doing translations for it too? lots to look forward to! :D

It's really depressing that the only real Jedi centric and Jedi positive show in existence is written for preschoolers, while many of the more "adult" shows are edgy and about morally ambiguous or straight-up evil characters. As if lessons about being kind and selfless are somehow not important or relevant to adults just as much if not more than they are to children.
It feels like characters who are unambiguously good are seen as only enjoyable by the very young and adult viewers will only actually appreciate characters who are cruel and selfish (and the requisite "tragic backstory" that always goes with it to help excuse their cruel and selfish choices).
It's just really sad and disappointing.

Thank you @fructik-shu for inviting to join the chain! (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)♪ (Your babies and manosaldibujo's Caleb are ow wow (//∇//))
It would be unfair to deprive many others of the opportunity to try out this interesting challenge, so mb the tag "like a villain" would work for everyone? (*゚∀゚*) I would love to see more bad guysss ☆

Plots where the mc goes absolute BATSHIT and starts wrecking everything on their path because you just know the string is pulled and it is game over for those who stands against their way — they basically messed with the living embodiment of death at this point and had no choice, but to face the consequences.

So the villain origin story of President Snow, is that no way he could ever cut it as a boyfriend of Taylor Swift --
That boy really cannot stand to not be the only muse of a girl's entire discography.

these two seem destined to fall for one another no matter what universe they’re in. I couldn’t resist at least sketching something for the lovely AU fanfic “The Untold Tale” By @phoenixtakaramono It’s incredibly well written, and builds on so many of the things that made the original novel “The Scum Villain’s Self Saving System” so good!

it's kinda weird that shadow is known as the guy that uses guns all the time when there's like. zero undeniably canon instances of him using a gun. as far as i can remember the only media where hes shown using guns is shadow the hedgehog (the game) and he has one on the boxart yeah but if i remember correctly he doesnt have one in any of the cutscenes except for the opening animation thing but i wouldnt consider that part of the story just a montage of things that Could happen depending on what choices you make. and within the actual levels there ARE weapons you can use but theyre not all guns and the one you use, if you even use one at all, is entirely up to you the player shadow doesn't just grab a gun and make you use it. and while using a gun definitely makes the game easier there are very few missions where it's actually a requirement. plus due to the nature of the choose your own path thing its unclear which missions actually happened so we dont even know if the parts where you have to use a gun happened for real. and after this one single game shadow never used a gun again as far as i know. this whole idea of shadow being obsessed with guns and using them all the time doesnt really have much canon basis if anything it makes more sense for tails to be known as the gun guy considering hes the one who actually uses weapons like all the time

The villain was never really one for feelings. They’re a pain in the ass, for one, and they have a tendency to get in the way of whatever evil thing she’s trying to do. Ignoring them has become second nature by now.
Ignoring everyone else’s feelings was an even bigger thing to avoid. She tends to rob people and wreck their cars, so she’s long learnt to ignore the negative reactions her actions gain her. And the heroes, god, they hate her the most. The only reason she ever tunes into how they feel is to gauge how well she her plans worked.
She spots someone skulking in the shadows on her usual route home, though, and her distaste for other people’s emotions is momentarily replaced with a need to be nosy.
She gets as close as she dares in the low light, and after a fair amount of squinting into the darkness she can finally see who’s decided to flop down on the pavement. The trussled brown hair, the tacky neon suit that practically lights up in the dark, holy shit the knockoff Nikes. She knows exactly who she’s looking at.
She takes a moment to clear her throat, brushing her own coat down. She hadn’t exactly expected to see anyone at this time of night, but opportunities like this aren’t exactly typical for a Tuesday evening.
“[Hero],” she greets smoothly, and she could almost laugh at how much her voice makes her nemesis jump. “We’re taking a secret lunch break, I see.”
The granola bar that was in the hero’s hand disappears impressively fast. She quickly wipes at her face before speaking. “No, I was, uh…”
Oh god, the villain’s walked in on something. The hero’s voice is shaking. She’s goddamn crying. “I don’t really, uh, get lunch breaks anymore.” The hero laughs, the sound broken with heartache. “This is more of a… y’know, like a depression meal.”
That really is tragic. She only wishes she gave more of a shit. Or less. The hero wouldn’t be able to tell the difference either way. “And why are we eating a depression meal that consists of a singular granola bar at…” The villain glances at her watch. “One in the morning?”
“Ah, it’s not a big deal,” the hero says in the tone of someone who thinks it’s a big deal. “The agency’s, uh, kind of laying heroes off.”
Oh, that is tragic. Hilariously so. The villain pulls what she hopes is a sympathetic face to hide the fact that she wants to laugh at the hero. Of course the agency would throw everyone under the bus the moment they get the chance. It’s all they’ve ever done.
“... And like, being a hero is all I’ve ever known,” the hero is still saying, like music to the villain’s ears. “It’s all I am. And– and they kick me out and suddenly I’m not a hero and I’m nothing.”
“Shame.”
“It’s all I had going for me, y’know? And now I’ll just have to, like, I don’t know, get an office job or something!”
“Nine-to-fives do suck.”
“I hate it. I hate them and I hate this and I hate feeling like shit.” The hero is rambling through tears now, and quite frankly the villain’s emotions switch couldn’t be any more turned off. She doesn’t really see someone whose life has collapsed. She sees an opportunity.
“It must be hard,” the villain says softly, everything in her demeanour perfectly constructed for pity, “to be thrown to the side like that.” The hero nods with a dejected sniffle, and the villain holds back a smile. “You deserve better than that.”
“I– I know, but…” Where the hero produced a tissue from is a mystery, but it dabs at her eyes all the same. “I don’t know. I can’t be a proper hero if I can’t be there.”
“You can be who you want without anyone holding you back, darling,” the villain continues. If her perceived trajectory of this conversation is right, she’ll win in the next three or so lines. “You don’t need the agency puppeting you to do good. You’re still a hero.”
“Yeah.” The hero turns her face up to the villain, a pitiful attempt of a smile gracing her features. “Yeah, I can, right? I can still fight you without someone telling me to do it.”
The villain snorts a laugh of sorts, and the hero actually grins this time. It would be a much nicer sight if the villain gave two shits. “Come on, darling, on your feet. You can stay with me until you find your footing.” She holds a hand out to the hero, lugging her upright with a struggle she barely manages to hide. “We’ll get you working your magic without the overlord shitheads in no time.”
“Are you sure?” the hero asks timidly. “I don’t want to intrude.”
Bingo. “You won’t be intruding,” the villain tells her breezily. She has to turn away to hide her victorious grin. “You’re always welcome with me.”

Why must I villain au everything I touch??
This page of little doodles was a lot of fun! I started off just drawing Chloé and then her as a Team Galactic member just sort of happened! I kinda made it up as I went lol, but I got really attached to the concept lol.
Basically it would be dependant on Chloe never getting her Eevee or any other Pokémon, and instead more grew to resent them. Everyone had so many expectations of her growing up to be like her dad, and he paid more attention to pokémon then her (not to mention Goh and Ash seeing him more often then she did), eventually culminating in that one episode where her parents cancel their family trip last minute because of Pokémon work and so Chloe goes to Sinnoh alone.
But instead of meeting Dawn there, she meets Cyrus and Team Galactic. I think Cyrus’s whole ‘human emotion and spirit cause suffering so let’s make a world without it’ thing would resonate with her, and she’d join the team, quickly rising the ranks to Commander (much to the chagrin of the other Commanders lol)
Then the Team Rocket Goh idea is something completely different lol, less of an actual au and more of just a two part episode spanning idea. Basically Ash and Goh run into Giovanni and since he’s a Kanto gym leader they end up giving him a tour of Cerise labs. He’s super impressed by how many Pokémon Gohs caught, and so later has some grunts kidnap him and use Hypnos to make him think he was always a Team Rocket member (think season 5 Carmen Sandiego). So then Ash and Chloe have to team up with Jessie and James to get Goh back to normal before it’s too late!
As you can tell I had a lot of fun with these lol

Ohhh how majestic it would be when Percy fights, Jason who becomes a villain because of Nico.
Because I have this suspicion that Jason is low-key peeved that Percy mistreated Nico, and adding it to the hypothesis that Jason turns away from the gods bc he sees how the demigods (Nico) struggle to live, can you imagine how astounding it would be - his resolve, his animosity?
Jason wouldn’t hold back - he has no reason to, it’s not like he and Percy particularly fond of each other. Provided he is to Nico, though, and it just makes things worse - and oh isn’t it breathtaking when a child of thundering storms lets go of his wrath. Percy wouldn’t hold back - because he had done it with Luke once, and when Nico appears to be failing with all the mixed feelings of betrayl and gratitude and friendship with Jason, he has a reason to take it as his responsibility to fight the son of Jupiter himself.
Can you see what I see? They’re a mess. Jason fights because of Nico, that’s why he cannot finish off Nico. But Nico cannot fight Jason either, and that is the exact reason Percy must take the wheel. Jason and Percy would kill each other in a heartbeat. But Nico would never let either of them die. Ironic, huh?
It’s more of a war. It’s about antagonizing each other and antagonizing yourself in order to salvage what you believe in. How exhilerating it is - just to imagine all the turmoils they’d have to go through and the bloodshed that follows.
